- 1:54Speaker 2: Good morning, sir, welcome to the show. Hey, good morning,
- 1:57Speaker 2: thanks for having me, Thank you for beeter tell us
- 1:58Speaker 2: about this event. Well we got this is this is
- 2:01Speaker 2: actually this is the tenth Celtic calling. I think it's
- 2:05Speaker 2: been going on for I think we might have skipped
- 2:07Speaker 2: one one during the pandemic. So say everybody skipped COVID
- 2:10Speaker 2: didn't count tenth anniversary.
- 2:12Speaker 4: Let's say tenth anniversary. So this is a tenth Celtic calling.
- 2:16Speaker 4: And it is more or less a week long event.
- 2:19Speaker 4: We get started on Wednesday, and we have events and
- 2:22Speaker 4: things like that going on all throughout the week. Great stuff.
- 2:26Speaker 4: We've got stuff for kids. We've got you know, we
- 2:30Speaker 4: we have kids games, things like that, and then we
- 2:32Speaker 4: have like even up to late night concerts and things
- 2:35Speaker 4: like that for adults and everything like that. So we have,
- 2:41Speaker 4: for example, Wednesday, we're kicking off. There's gonna be no
- 2:45Speaker 4: that's this Wednesday. This Wednesday, Wednesday, Okay, Wednesday. Absolutely, there's
- 2:48Speaker 4: gonna be a movie at the Florally, the Florally Hark
- 2:53Speaker 4: Cohen Cinema. There's a jam session at the bears Den,
- 2:58Speaker 4: and then coming up after that, we've got things going on.
- 3:02Speaker 4: We've got what's called a Kayley Dance, which is kind
- 3:05Speaker 4: of like a called dance, kind of like a square dance,
- 3:08Speaker 4: and that's that's taking place on Friday. Everything is available
- 3:11Speaker 4: on Facebook. There is way too much on the schedule
- 3:14Speaker 4: for me to mention be here to like, you know,
- 3:16Speaker 4: untill noon, that'd be your whole show. Yeah, it'd be
- 3:19Speaker 4: and everybody would be bored out of their minds. It'd
- 3:21Speaker 4: be great. But the main thing is. The main thing
- 3:25Speaker 4: is Saturday, we're gonna have We're gonna take over slack
- 3:28Speaker 4: Plaza and we're gonna have Celtic events. Like I said,
- 3:31Speaker 4: We're gonna have kids games, crafts for the kids. We're
- 3:35Speaker 4: gonna have music, We're gonna have dancers, like traditional Celtic dancing,
- 3:41Speaker 4: things like that, and that is going to be all
- 3:44Speaker 4: day at slack Plaza, and we're going to cap it
- 3:46Speaker 4: off with a parade at four o'clock and everything at
- 3:51Speaker 4: slack Plaza. By the way, everything at slack Plaza is
- 3:53Speaker 4: free of charge. Celtic Calling is a nonprofit, so we
- 3:55Speaker 4: don't charge anybody for anything. There might be some concerts
- 3:58Speaker 4: that happen in bars in the evening that will cost money,
- 4:03Speaker 4: but typically if you come down on Saturday and you
- 4:06Speaker 4: mentioned seventy five degrees in sunny, right, yeah, looks like
- 4:09Speaker 4: that's what we're gonna have.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I've said that that's been a running
- 4:13Speaker 2: joke because of this winter, as bad as it's been.
- 4:17Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean I'm looking ahead, you know, right
- 4:20Speaker 2: now you're looking at I think there's a chance of
- 4:23Speaker 2: rain on Saturday, but it's a forty percent chance, yeah,
- 4:25Speaker 2: which means sixty percent chance that it won't and it's
- 4:27Speaker 2: going to be seventy eight.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it's going to be great, seventy eight and maybe
- 4:32Speaker 4: Sonny sixty percent chance of son Yeah. That Yeah, that's
- 4:35Speaker 4: a good.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Talk about your involvement in this rob how'd you get
- 4:38Speaker 2: involved this whole thing?
- 4:40Speaker 4: Well, I Celtic Calling used to be kind of a
- 4:44Speaker 4: subsidiary of foot Mad, and I got involved because it
- 4:49Speaker 4: needed to be its own thing, So I established the nonprofit.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I've got a little bit of an accounting experience and
- 4:55Speaker 4: background in the accounting field, and we established a nonprofit.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I think it was five years ago, and since then
- 5:03Speaker 4: it's kind of it's taken off to the point where
- 5:05Speaker 4: we're taking over downtown Charleston and I love it. I
- 5:09Speaker 4: you know, I'm just kind of the guy that makes
- 5:11Speaker 4: the trains run on time, but I do. I enjoy it,
- 5:14Speaker 4: and I think we do a great job just bringing
- 5:17Speaker 4: this to Charleston. It's it's a pleasure to bring something
- 5:19Speaker 4: to Charleston that is free for the most part, other
- 5:24Speaker 4: than like some of the concerts, but it's a pleasure
- 5:27Speaker 4: to bring something to Charleston that's just a big event
- 5:29Speaker 4: for folks to do that that brings a lot of
- 5:32Speaker 4: Celtic culture out. The movies. The movie is great, the
- 5:36Speaker 4: dances are great. We love the music. We're gonna have
- 5:40Speaker 4: a band called Kinfolk and they're gonna be playing on
- 5:44Speaker 4: the main stage at Slack on Saturday. We're gonna have
- 5:46Speaker 4: a band called House of Hammel that's gonna be playing well.
- 5:50Speaker 4: They're also they're gonna be playing on the main stage
- 5:52Speaker 4: and they're also gonna be playing at the what do
- 5:56Speaker 4: you call it now, the Resurrection Church Theater at twenty
- 5:59Speaker 4: three Summer Street. They're going to be playing through the
- 6:02Speaker 4: organization foot Mad at seven thirty. It's the concerts takes
- 6:07Speaker 4: place at seven thirty, so seven thirty, get there at
- 6:10Speaker 4: seven and that you have to get tickets for. But
- 6:13Speaker 4: it's always a good time. It's always a great crowd.
- 6:17Speaker 4: At the end of Celtic Calling, a band called father
- 6:20Speaker 4: Son and Friends is also going to be calling it,
- 6:22Speaker 4: going to be playing at Short Story on Saturday night,
- 6:26Speaker 4: so all kinds of stuff going on, and I just,
- 6:29Speaker 4: you know, essentially, I get cornered at a party. Somebody's like, hey,
- 6:34Speaker 4: you know about accounting stuff, and I'm like, uh yeah.
- 6:38Speaker 4: And so one thing led to another, and five years later,
- 6:42Speaker 4: here we are growing every year and excited to bring
- 6:46Speaker 4: it to you talking.
- 6:47Speaker 2: About Celtic Calling again. Rob James is with us for
- 6:50Speaker 2: Dave Allen showing five eighty Live is brought to you
- 6:52Speaker 2: in part by Pinnacle Consultants help me to identify environmental
- 6:55Speaker 2: concerns as best just led mold and indoor quality issues
- 6:57Speaker 2: and buildings all across the state provide inspections, testing and
- 7:01Speaker 2: accredit to lab services. You could try to check out
- 7:03Speaker 2: Pinnacle Corp dot net helping you understand your environment because
- 7:06Speaker 2: what you don't know can hurts you. Talk about the
- 7:08Speaker 2: popularity of this thing, because I mean it's huge. It's
- 7:10Speaker 2: one of the bigger events that Charleston has. And I've
- 7:14Speaker 2: been doing the show for almost six years now and
- 7:16Speaker 2: every year I have somebody on to talk about it.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I mean, this thing has really you know, I mean
- 7:21Speaker 2: it was always always a big party, big celebration, but
- 7:23Speaker 2: it's really grown a lot over the years.
- 7:27Speaker 4: It has it. It seems like it seems like every year,
- 7:31Speaker 4: if we can, we're adding something. It seems like that
- 7:33Speaker 4: we're getting a lot more folks downtown. We're really excited
- 7:38Speaker 4: about last year. I think it was we did it
- 7:42Speaker 4: on March first. We do it on the first, essentially
- 7:44Speaker 4: the first Saturday in March is what we build the
- 7:47Speaker 4: festival around. And last Saturday in the last year it
- 7:50Speaker 4: was I think thirty eight degrees in Wendy, which kind
- 7:53Speaker 4: of goes along.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I know everybody wants it to be
- 7:56Speaker 2: like it's going to be this Saturday Sunday in seventy eight,
- 7:58Speaker 2: but for it's kind of like on Christmas man, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 2: for for a little bit of an atmosphere that was
- 8:03Speaker 2: kind of cool.
- 8:03Speaker 4: I guess it was very Scottish weather, That's what I'm saying.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I think you could say. But we're as much as
- 8:11Speaker 4: we love our tribute to the Scots, we're definitely looking
- 8:14Speaker 4: forward to looking forward to having nicer weather and having
- 8:18Speaker 4: more folks come on out and we're going to have
- 8:21Speaker 4: crafters and vendors from from all around the state you know,
- 8:26Speaker 4: local folks that produce things. We're gonna have our very
- 8:29Speaker 4: famous T shirts for sale every most every event that
- 8:33Speaker 4: leads up to Celtic Calling, like the kay Lee Dance
- 8:37Speaker 4: on Friday night, we will have some T shirts available
- 8:39Speaker 4: for sale because they go fast. People do love to
- 8:43Speaker 4: get the T shirt. So if you want to get
- 8:44Speaker 4: a T shirt, make sure that you're tending some of
- 8:46Speaker 4: those earlier events and hopefully we can accommodate you. But
- 8:49Speaker 4: if not, we'll have them first come, first serve Saturday
- 8:53Speaker 4: at Slack Plaza. And we're you know, we're also we're
- 8:57Speaker 4: excited for the parade. If you if if you like bagpipes,
- 9:02Speaker 4: then this parade's for you. If you don't like bagpipes,
- 9:06Speaker 4: I don't really know what to tell you because we
- 9:08Speaker 4: got so many. Also, let me talk about something else,
- 9:13Speaker 4: and it kind of there's a couple of things that
- 9:16Speaker 4: kind of close the event, which is we have a
- 9:19Speaker 4: play contest. We have playwrights from around the world and
- 9:24Speaker 4: they submit plays and we have some wonderful local actors
- 9:29Speaker 4: from Charleston that read these plays out and so and
- 9:34Speaker 4: then we decide, you know, and then through judges a
- 9:37Speaker 4: system of judging, we decide which one is the best play.
- 9:39Speaker 4: But it's great, it's a good time. We have five
- 9:42Speaker 4: different short plays and I encourage everybody to check that out.
- 9:46Speaker 4: And also on Sunday we have something called Irish road bowling,
- 9:50Speaker 4: which is and that takes place in Canall State Forest
- 9:53Speaker 4: and Canah State four and so Irish road bowling is
- 9:57Speaker 4: incredibly fun. I've the treasure, so I'm the guy that
- 10:01Speaker 4: kind of makes sure that everybody gets paid and everything.
- 10:04Speaker 4: All the money happens like it is, so on Saturday,
- 10:07Speaker 4: I'm pretty much that's what I'm doing. Last year, I
- 10:09Speaker 4: think on Saturday I walked about fifteen miles just back
- 10:13Speaker 4: and forth. But what I like to do, my Celtic
- 10:17Speaker 4: calling is road bowling on Sunday and Irish road bowling
- 10:21Speaker 4: essentially is what you're doing as you're taking the origin
- 10:24Speaker 4: is the sport is that it was a cannon ball.
- 10:26Speaker 4: That Irish soldiers being bored would take a cannon ball
- 10:31Speaker 4: and kind of roll it up the street. So you're
- 10:34Speaker 4: taking something that is about the shape and weight of
- 10:36Speaker 4: a cannon ball, a small cannonball, now not like the
- 10:40Speaker 4: big things. It's not fired movies, and you're taking it
- 10:44Speaker 4: and you're doing it in teams and essentially you're bowling
- 10:48Speaker 4: it underhand up of road and you're kind of trying
- 10:53Speaker 4: to hit the curve of the road. That's why we
- 10:54Speaker 4: do it in Kanawa State Forest is because it's a
- 10:57Speaker 4: sort of a challenging experience, but not too challenging other
- 11:00Speaker 4: than finding the ball. Sometimes that parts challenging because there's
- 11:04Speaker 4: nothing but there's a lot of leaf cover out there.
- 11:07Speaker 4: But so you take turns and teams throwing the balls
- 11:09Speaker 4: up the road as far as you can. And it's
- 11:12Speaker 4: kind of like golf. So whoever gets to you know,
- 11:15Speaker 4: I think it's like a mile, a mile, a mile
- 11:18Speaker 4: and a half. Whoever gets there and the least number
- 11:19Speaker 4: of throws wins, So it is you know, it's it's
- 11:25Speaker 4: kind of like curling. You know, there was the curling
- 11:28Speaker 4: craze of the Winter Olympics in that you know, you
- 11:31Speaker 4: look at it and you think, oh, that's not that's
- 11:33Speaker 4: not that about you can do that something anybody can do,
- 11:36Speaker 4: and to some extent that is true, But to some
- 11:39Speaker 4: other extent it's like you have to there is some
- 11:42Speaker 4: some athleticism involved and if you're more athletic at it,
- 11:45Speaker 4: then you're going to be better like curling. It's like
- 11:49Speaker 4: that to kind of slide up the ice with a
- 11:52Speaker 4: broom and do that in such a it's such a
- 11:56Speaker 4: fast speed. Is amazing to me. And I think, well,
- 11:58Speaker 4: you know, there's some athleticism involved there. But road bowling
- 12:01Speaker 4: is kind of the same way. But it's not like
- 12:03Speaker 4: that with Celtic Calling. We just have teams, we have
- 12:06Speaker 4: everybody and you just come out. You have a good time.
- 12:08Speaker 4: If you win, great, But the main part, the most
- 12:12Speaker 4: fun part about road bowling is losing your ball in
- 12:14Speaker 4: the woods and digging around for it for several minutes
- 12:19Speaker 4: to find it.
- 12:19Speaker 2: All right, Rob, that's just one part of what's going on.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Remind people where they can where they can learn more
- 12:24Speaker 2: in the entire schedules. You said, it's way too much
- 12:26Speaker 2: for us to go over here on the radio, but
- 12:29Speaker 2: just remind people where they can look at the schedule.
- 12:31Speaker 4: It is way too much. And I and we're really
- 12:33Speaker 4: excited about everything that we have going on because it's
- 12:36Speaker 4: gonna be downtown, it's going to be at the library,
- 12:39Speaker 4: it's going to be at several different venues in Charleston.
- 12:41Speaker 4: You can find it all. You can just search Celtic
- 12:43Speaker 4: Calling on Facebook. I don't know if there's more than
- 12:46Speaker 4: one out there, but if there is, just look for
- 12:48Speaker 4: the one in Charleston, West Virginia's hard to find. Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 4: and the main post, the first post is pinned and
- 12:55Speaker 4: there is. It's I think it's about the size of
- 12:59Speaker 4: war and peace or some similar toll story novel. Some
- 13:04Speaker 4: great Russian master wrote this, and it will go. It
- 13:08Speaker 4: will take you all the way from I Actually, it'll
- 13:11Speaker 4: take you all the way from Tuesday all the way
- 13:12Speaker 4: up until Sunday. And if you look at it and
- 13:16Speaker 4: you want to attend every event you want to celebrate
- 13:18Speaker 4: Celtic culture, you will never run out of things to
- 13:20Speaker 4: do because there is that much going on that's involved
- 13:25Speaker 4: with Celtic Calling.
- 13:26Speaker 2: All right, Rob, I appreciate you being here. Man, Hey,

- 15:46Speaker 2: Oh yeah, man, You're always always welcome here, thank you,
- 15:49Speaker 2: until you're not until I kiddy, all right, let's get
- 15:54Speaker 2: serious Iran. I know you were watching the events. Most
- 15:57Speaker 2: of us woke up on Saturday morning. Uh and uh
- 16:01Speaker 2: and and and saw in the barrage that happened in Iran.
- 16:04Speaker 2: You're taking then we'll break it down from there.
- 16:06Speaker 7: I'm in. I'm totally in. Okay, I think it was.
- 16:11Speaker 4: It was.
- 16:15Speaker 7: I think it's less about weapons than it is about
- 16:20Speaker 7: the regime change, right. I think it's and it may
- 16:25Speaker 7: be pretty pretty lopsided.
- 16:28Speaker 2: The question A lot of people are asking, though, Danny,
- 16:31Speaker 2: and look, I think that even the most ardent Trump
- 16:34Speaker 2: detractors and Democrats you know, would would nobody is going
- 16:39Speaker 2: to argue with that regime going. I mean no one
- 16:42Speaker 2: and everybody thinks that. You know, and Iran without a
- 16:45Speaker 2: nuclear weapon is a good thing, okay, or without nuclear capabilities.
- 16:48Speaker 2: We get that. But one of the one of the
- 16:50Speaker 2: one of the criticisms has been why.
- 16:52Speaker 7: Now the focus is still on Trump? I mean, Tim Kaine,
- 16:58Speaker 7: you got people in Congress that are root for a
- 17:00Speaker 7: Ran to lead, she'd she'd be rooting for Iran. Uh
- 17:06Speaker 7: you you, I think it's why now? Why not now? Okay,
- 17:12Speaker 7: all right, now that should be done now.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think one of the one of
- 17:16Speaker 2: the complaints, one of the criticisms again has been, you
- 17:21Speaker 2: know when when the president uh did the previous action
- 17:25Speaker 2: in Iran, I mean, he came out and said that
- 17:26Speaker 2: the nuclear capabilities were obliterated. Okay, Well that turned out
- 17:30Speaker 2: to be a little bit of an exaggeration because because
- 17:33Speaker 2: they weren't completely they were set back, but oh they
- 17:36Speaker 2: were set back tremendously. But to say that they were gone,
- 17:39Speaker 2: I don't think was entirely truthful. But there's there are
- 17:43Speaker 2: those that will say that. I even saw some online chatter,
- 17:50Speaker 2: people referring this as the Epstein invasion, that he was
- 17:53Speaker 2: doing this to basically to detract from the Epstein investigation
- 17:59Speaker 2: or lack of and what's going to be probably disastrous midterms.
- 18:04Speaker 7: Wag the dog. Yeah, I don't care. Yeah, it was
- 18:08Speaker 7: the right thing.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Well, and you do have quite a bit of support
- 18:10Speaker 2: from the people in the country too.
- 18:13Speaker 7: I've been watching I've been watching videos since two o'clock
- 18:16Speaker 7: this morning.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I know, you texted me like I was
- 18:19Speaker 2: asleep and you again, I wake up at four thirty
- 18:22Speaker 2: this morning, and I've already had a texture of you,
- 18:24Speaker 2: like at two thirty this morning, I watched.
- 18:26Speaker 7: General Petraeus and he said that the key to this
- 18:32Speaker 7: whole thing and what made it successful was it was
- 18:37Speaker 7: a daytime hit your broad daylight. Yeah, and when they knew,
- 18:43Speaker 7: I mean, we know everything they're doing. We have intelligence,
- 18:49Speaker 7: and we know where the nuclear arsenal is.
- 18:54Speaker 2: And I mean we were able to take out their
- 18:58Speaker 2: leader at about forty other leaders in one two fell swoops.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I mean we knew exactly, We practically knew what time
- 19:06Speaker 2: of the day the guy went to the bathroom and
- 19:08Speaker 2: where he was in the building we took out.
- 19:11Speaker 7: We took out Akhmadano Jode and he was he was
- 19:15Speaker 7: there at the American EMPC. He was one of the
- 19:19Speaker 7: people that took us captive. He was twenty six years old.
- 19:23Speaker 7: And then he went on to become president of Iran.
- 19:27Speaker 7: And if people saw a picture of him, they might
- 19:30Speaker 7: remember him. And he went to US Columbia and he
- 19:35Speaker 7: went to Boston University. And at one of those schools
- 19:41Speaker 7: they said, what what do you all do at homosexuals
- 19:44Speaker 7: in Iran? He said, well, we don't any humus in Iran.
- 19:51Speaker 7: And he's gone. He was part of the part of
- 19:54Speaker 7: the group that got which made me feel real good.
- 19:58Speaker 7: And we took out their forty top leaders. Now they
- 20:03Speaker 7: could replace them.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Well, there was a succession plan already in for Haminae,
- 20:09Speaker 2: because I mean he was eighty six years old. I
- 20:11Speaker 2: mean he you know, so they already had a plan.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I listened to a couple of I listened to an
- 20:16Speaker 2: interview yesterday with one of their defense leaders who or
- 20:20Speaker 2: their ambassad or something like that. And he was on
- 20:22Speaker 2: a couple of news shows yesterday and look and he
- 20:24Speaker 2: came out and said, look, we are we cannot attack,
- 20:26Speaker 2: we cannot counter this on the United States. However, we
- 20:29Speaker 2: can go after people in the region, we can go
- 20:32Speaker 2: after embassies, we can go after whatever. And I just
- 20:34Speaker 2: wonder in America if we are going to start to
- 20:37Speaker 2: see because there's quite I mean there's outrage in America too,
- 20:44Speaker 2: from a lot of folks loyal to Iran And then
- 20:46Speaker 2: you you spent a lot of time in California. How
- 20:48Speaker 2: many Iranians are in in Los Angeles.
- 20:50Speaker 7: In they're Irvine there in Irvne, California, and they're all
- 20:54Speaker 7: for They're all for Trump.
- 20:55Speaker 2: They're Well, that's what I was going to say, because
- 20:57Speaker 2: just because they're.
- 20:58Speaker 7: They're all they're all for the Crown rents. And the
- 21:01Speaker 7: Crown Prince was on sixty minutes last night and I
- 21:05Speaker 7: don't think he wants to go back over there, but
- 21:08Speaker 7: I think he likes being in New York and live
- 21:11Speaker 7: in the kind of lifestyle. But he said he'd be
- 21:13Speaker 7: a transitional part of a government if they wanted him
- 21:19Speaker 7: to be. But everybody holds up the Crown pictures of
- 21:23Speaker 7: the Crown Prince. Now when I say the Crown Prince,
- 21:27Speaker 7: I'm talking about the Shaw's son, and they're holding enough
- 21:31Speaker 7: signs because he's a symbol. He's a symbol of what
- 21:34Speaker 7: they want, the kind of thing they want. They want
- 21:37Speaker 7: a Western government, they want, they want it like it
- 21:42Speaker 7: was when the show was there.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Are you concerned as many are those that? I mean,
- 21:47Speaker 2: it's not going to be as simple as just going
- 21:49Speaker 2: in and doing I mean, look pretty dang simple on
- 21:51Speaker 2: Saturday what we did. However, now Iran is firing and
- 21:55Speaker 2: going after all these different countries. I mean have to
- 21:58Speaker 2: well yeah, I me because they can't hit here. So
- 22:00Speaker 2: I mean, are you you concerned this is going that
- 22:03Speaker 2: this is going to bring into a greater greater.
- 22:05Speaker 7: They're hitting. They're hitting the people that were involved in
- 22:09Speaker 7: the Abraham Accords, which Jared Kushner put together. You a Bahrain,
- 22:16Speaker 7: those common places. But here's the question I had. Okay,
- 22:20Speaker 7: where's Saudi Arabia? Well, don't they send troops. The problem
- 22:25Speaker 7: with the people in Iran is there's a Second Amendment.
- 22:30Speaker 7: They don't have guns. That one guy that was on
- 22:33Speaker 7: Steph knoppolos Uh, he said that they killed three thousand
- 22:39Speaker 7: people because they were shooting at the Yeah, yeah, they
- 22:44Speaker 7: don't have guns. How they gonna shoot anybody? They don't
- 22:47Speaker 7: have guns. The people, the thugs have the guns, and
- 22:51Speaker 7: these are Savillians.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Tex says, well, well, well, looks like Trump began a
- 22:56Speaker 2: tax on Iran to distract from the Epstein files. Looked
- 22:59Speaker 2: like American troops of already died as well alder protect pedophiles.
- 23:03Speaker 7: That's not true.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Tex says, Yeah, we will see false flag attacks, attempts
- 23:08Speaker 2: to cancel the midterms.
- 23:10Speaker 7: That's not true. That's not going to happen. With my
- 23:14Speaker 7: own personal opinion, the Republicans are going to lose the midterms,
- 23:19Speaker 7: especially in the House the Senate. They've got a shot,
- 23:23Speaker 7: They've got a shot and holding on. But it'll be close.
- 23:26Speaker 7: Depends on Collins. I think they're going to lose North Carolina.
- 23:35Speaker 7: Cooper will be its senator. Depends on Mitch McConnell's seat.
- 23:41Speaker 7: You know, Texas.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I thought Trump was stopping wars. Now he's starting them.
- 23:46Speaker 2: This is just a distraction from everything crashing down on him,
- 23:49Speaker 2: the economy, Epstein, etc.
- 23:51Speaker 7: Well that's what Tim Kaine says.
- 23:53Speaker 2: And then we got a bunch of text about actually
- 23:56Speaker 2: from one person. I appreciated it, but it's a lot
- 23:58Speaker 2: of the same thing about because people said that the
- 24:01Speaker 2: in certain people said that. Adam shiff said, this is
- 24:04Speaker 2: that the president should not be able to do this
- 24:06Speaker 2: without congressional approval. Someone sent me various things where Obama,
- 24:10Speaker 2: Clinton and others had uh had had done similar things.
- 24:15Speaker 7: He had, Yeah, he gave forty eight hours notice. He
- 24:20Speaker 7: Fetterman said that he gave forty eight They got the
- 24:23Speaker 7: Gang of eight or whatever it's called, that were notified
- 24:27Speaker 7: about this. And SHIFT, Yeah, I guess SHIFT would one
- 24:32Speaker 7: f hearings and uh, you know, can bring in witnesses
- 24:37Speaker 7: and and and make it go through and then after
- 24:43Speaker 7: a two month process, you know, pridiculous. We should have
- 24:49Speaker 7: done what we did. I'm not a Trump backer. I mean,
- 24:57Speaker 7: if you don't like Trump, okay, sorry with me.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Because you don't know.
- 25:02Speaker 7: But I like this.
- 25:04Speaker 2: But Dave Island showing five dyline broad to you, parted
- 25:06Speaker 2: by a Bridge Valley Community and Technical College. Visit Bridge
- 25:09Speaker 2: Valley dot edu. Bridge Valley Community and Technical College. Your
- 25:11Speaker 2: career starts here, all right, So we we lost some
- 25:14Speaker 2: American lives.
- 25:15Speaker 4: We knew that.
- 25:16Speaker 2: The President said in his video that he did that
- 25:18Speaker 2: there would be casualties. There are going to be there's
- 25:21Speaker 2: gonna be more casualties. He said in one interview or
- 25:24Speaker 2: one statement that he's thinking this is going to take
- 25:26Speaker 2: four to five weeks. Most people familiar with the area
- 25:28Speaker 2: say it's going to take a lot longer than that.
- 25:31Speaker 7: Well, that's something my it's out of my that's out
- 25:35Speaker 7: of my Bailey Wick. I wouldn't I wouldn't know. I
- 25:39Speaker 7: wouldn't think it would take that long.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Well, it all depends on what I guess, what the
- 25:44Speaker 2: operation is and what other countries get involved. I haven't
- 25:49Speaker 2: heard a lot out of this day and he maybe
- 25:51Speaker 2: you have you study this more than I do. Haven't
- 25:52Speaker 2: heard a lot out of Russia. On this as as
- 25:54Speaker 2: Putin released these statements.
- 25:56Speaker 7: About this, they're opposed to it. Well, I know, but
- 25:59Speaker 7: I mean I didn't know I said something. They had,
- 26:01Speaker 7: both them and China, and they'll say something in the
- 26:05Speaker 7: United Nations. And Putin's got a lot of room to,
- 26:09Speaker 7: you know, to criticize any other US for invading.
- 26:13Speaker 2: A pot kettle color Black Texas Dave. Iran will never
- 26:17Speaker 2: stop trying to get a nuclear weapon. With the current
- 26:19Speaker 2: leaders Obama and Biden to be blamed for Iran's richest
- 26:22Speaker 2: to support many of the terrorists around the world. Thank
- 26:25Speaker 2: god we have a president that takes action against this
- 26:27Speaker 2: evil leadership in Iran. Thank you, President Trump.
- 26:30Speaker 7: That's what I'm talking about. And you know, here's the problem.
- 26:34Speaker 7: Here's the big problem. We had an open border for
- 26:37Speaker 7: four years.
- 26:39Speaker 2: They're here.
- 26:41Speaker 7: I mean, people can set up set up something nine
- 26:45Speaker 7: to eleven cellar right here because they're in this country.
- 26:50Speaker 2: How many Iranians are in this country though, I mean,
- 26:52Speaker 2: I know we talked about you said Irvine, California area
- 26:55Speaker 2: that you spend some time, but during that time, how
- 26:57Speaker 2: many Iranians can Irvines were?
- 26:59Speaker 7: John Airport is right and the only reason I know
- 27:02Speaker 7: that because I was watching videos at two o'clock this
- 27:05Speaker 7: morning and they said they called it the city where
- 27:10Speaker 7: Ron is and they had all these people on the street,
- 27:14Speaker 7: and I think it was there or one of these
- 27:17Speaker 7: one of these cities where they said they had a
- 27:21Speaker 7: Shia mosque supposed to be open to twelve wasn't open.
- 27:29Speaker 7: And I mean, she is our enemy, not Sinny.
- 27:33Speaker 2: It's it's always interesting to me, and it sometimes doesn't
- 27:36Speaker 2: set well with others when they president, whether it is Trump,
- 27:39Speaker 2: whether it's Bill Clinton, whomever, who didn't personally serve. And
- 27:45Speaker 2: you know, I mean, casualties are part of war. We
- 27:47Speaker 2: all know that, all right. But when President Trump, I
- 27:50Speaker 2: saw some criticism from some people who said that he said, well,
- 27:54Speaker 2: you know, they're going to be casualties. Yeah, from someone
- 27:57Speaker 2: who didn't serve and someone who got out of servey,
- 28:01Speaker 2: as did Bill Clinton. I'm being fair here, and sometimes
- 28:04Speaker 2: that just doesn't set well with people.
- 28:06Speaker 7: Doesn't set well with me. But but you know, the
- 28:10Speaker 7: public elected this guy, and he's the commander in chief.
- 28:15Speaker 7: There's a lot of things not to like there. Yeah,
- 28:17Speaker 7: this draft dodger put his name on the Kennedy Center.
- 28:21Speaker 4: John F.
- 28:22Speaker 7: Kennedy was a naval war hero. What business did he
- 28:26Speaker 7: have a doing that or taking it over. They're going
- 28:30Speaker 7: to close it. It won't reopen until he's gone.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Texas Republicans have started another war that Democrats will be
- 28:36Speaker 2: blamed for not ending properly or quickly enough.
- 28:40Speaker 7: Oh I don't, I don't. I don't agree with that.
- 28:43Speaker 7: I think this is uh, this will be a count
- 28:48Speaker 7: in Trump's impeachment when the Democrats take.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Over the House and he will be impeached. I mean,
- 28:58Speaker 2: oh yeah, yeah, Texas Dave mayor Danny has common sense
- 29:02Speaker 2: about President Trump's leadership to take out the current leadership
- 29:04Speaker 2: in Iran, the Anti America Democrat Party needs to get
- 29:08Speaker 2: behind this. We need action in Iran.
- 29:10Speaker 7: There are some Democrats center behind it.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Again, I don't know that. I don't know that anybody
- 29:15Speaker 2: except the extreme left is going to say that this
- 29:19Speaker 2: that that Iran is a that the world is a
- 29:21Speaker 2: better place with Iran having access to nukes. I think
- 29:24Speaker 2: even the most adamant, I mean, even the State Democratic
- 29:27Speaker 2: Party I got a statement from them on Saturday said
- 29:29Speaker 2: something to that. In fact, said, well, you know that
- 29:31Speaker 2: they were criticizing the way that it happened, not that
- 29:34Speaker 2: it happened.
- 29:35Speaker 7: That's because these people hate Trump. I don't like you
- 29:39Speaker 7: me either, but I don't let that get in the
- 29:40Speaker 7: way a good policy.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Right, So switch gears here just for a moment before
- 29:45Speaker 2: we let you go. Where are we on book news?
- 29:48Speaker 2: What's the situation with the books?
- 29:49Speaker 7: Well, there are seven of them at the library. You
- 29:53Speaker 7: can't they're they're not available and there's sold out on Amazon.
- 30:01Speaker 7: So hopefully the guy who does that will get with
- 30:06Speaker 7: it on that. I watched another video this morning at
- 30:12Speaker 7: about Caracas, Venezuela, and it was it's a Soviet style city.
- 30:24Speaker 7: They had pictures free Maduro, they had pictures up of
- 30:29Speaker 7: Sulimani of all people, and they had handshakes with Theron.
- 30:35Speaker 7: I mean, it's a but having said all, it every
- 30:38Speaker 7: every There wasn't a lot of traffic, you know, a
- 30:41Speaker 7: lot of people, but everybody was nice to these people
- 30:45Speaker 7: walking through. And the woman that was leading the group,
- 30:50Speaker 7: they had two from England and the woman was from Russia,
- 30:55Speaker 7: spoke perfect English. But everybody was nice to them. Everybody,
- 31:01Speaker 7: and it's it's interesting to see what's gonna happen. See
- 31:05Speaker 7: they still have two interior minister and one other minister
- 31:11Speaker 7: that has a fifteen million dollar price on his head,
- 31:14Speaker 7: and the other had a twenty five million dollar They
- 31:16Speaker 7: were all part of the same drug, the drug business
- 31:21Speaker 7: that Maduro was. They just couldn't catch it. They couldn't
- 31:24Speaker 7: get them all.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Take us Texas. Dave, great to hear Danny on your program.
- 31:32Speaker 2: He has a tremendous amount of historical knowledge to do
- 31:35Speaker 2: the best. That's just the way to say. You're old, Danny.
- 31:37Speaker 2: That's what that is.
- 31:38Speaker 7: That's right. But I know he's right, but I study it.

- 35:43Speaker 2: wee could go Saturday at Logan Elementary School in Logan County.
- 35:46Speaker 2: A lot of smoke, a lot of water damage, a
- 35:47Speaker 2: lot of things destroyed that simply cannot be replaced that easily.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Talking about books and indoor play stuff, etcetera, etcetera. Well,
- 35:55Speaker 2: Rob Reeal KWS ninety six one and WVRC Media Charleston
- 35:59Speaker 2: to the rescue. We're teaming with Logan Bank and Trust
- 36:01Speaker 2: and Union Mission tomorrow is starting at eight and running
- 36:04Speaker 2: ti noon to collect items. Like I mentioned earlier. Now,
- 36:07Speaker 2: Rob's goulda be setting up shop tomorrow morning started at

- 36:19Speaker 2: to handle that. And even if you want to drop
- 36:21Speaker 2: off some items todayt or studios here at eleven eleven
- 36:23Speaker 2: Virginia s Treats and Charleston, you can do that. We'll
- 36:25Speaker 2: check in with roblive from the event coming up tomorrow programming.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Know quickly before we get to the Mayor, I will
- 36:31Speaker 2: be away from the show on Thursday, also on Metro
- 36:35Speaker 2: News Midday, as I the time has finally arrived for
- 36:38Speaker 2: me to begin cancer treatments. This is like pre treatment,
- 36:42Speaker 2: I guess. So hopefully I'll be back on Friday. Mayor Charleston,
- 36:46Speaker 2: Amy Schuler Goodwin is here whose father went through the
- 36:48Speaker 2: same thing, and you're telling me, yeah, I may not
- 36:51Speaker 2: be here Friday.
- 36:52Speaker 13: I mean, I think you know, this is what I think.
- 36:54Speaker 13: And I've known you for many, many many years, is that?
- 36:59Speaker 13: And just like my dad, just like members of my
- 37:01Speaker 13: own family, just like you know, our listeners, we are
- 37:04Speaker 13: a very resilient type of folk here in apple Eachi, right.
- 37:08Speaker 13: If you grow up in West Virginia, just like me,
- 37:10Speaker 13: you get up and you go to work. And sometimes
- 37:13Speaker 13: I'm not sure that we always take care of our health.
- 37:17Speaker 13: And while you are, I think sometimes we think, Okay,
- 37:20Speaker 13: I'm getting it done and then let's move on. Takes
- 37:23Speaker 13: a day or two. I mean, it just simply, it
- 37:25Speaker 13: just simply does. And I know, but that's the mental
- 37:29Speaker 13: you know, That's what I would say this, I would
- 37:32Speaker 13: give this same advice if it were a child of
- 37:35Speaker 13: mine or a parent of mine. I think that the
- 37:37Speaker 13: older I have a birthday next Monday. But the older
- 37:41Speaker 13: I get, the more I realize this is it. This
- 37:44Speaker 13: is the time you have. There's no additional on the
- 37:47Speaker 13: flip side. And work is important, but your health and
- 37:51Speaker 13: recovery is just as important. This is speaking to somebody
- 37:54Speaker 13: who rarely takes a day ever, but it.
- 37:59Speaker 14: Is it is important, and we care about you.
- 38:02Speaker 2: And plus I'm older than you, so.
- 38:04Speaker 14: We have just medg I mean justice, I want to
- 38:07Speaker 14: I want.
- 38:08Speaker 2: To ask you something real quick. We have a story
- 38:10Speaker 2: posted about it online. It has to do with the ballpark.
- 38:12Speaker 2: You guys are working on the lease with the ball
- 38:14Speaker 2: with the with Goimart Ballpark.
- 38:15Speaker 14: Talking about that.
- 38:16Speaker 13: So we were so delighted to have Andy Shehay come
- 38:20Speaker 13: into our lives and the Charleston Dirty Birds many many
- 38:23Speaker 13: years ago, because there was no baseball in the city
- 38:26Speaker 13: of Charleston, and so when we got here, we just
- 38:30Speaker 13: decided we needed to work with folks, and certainly we're
- 38:34Speaker 13: making improvements to the ballpark. We want you know, the
- 38:36Speaker 13: leases has been renewed and what we're trying to do
- 38:40Speaker 13: is just add the things that we know, and the
- 38:43Speaker 13: ownership is trying to the team. Ownership is trying to
- 38:45Speaker 13: add the things that they believe that they need. Of course,
- 38:49Speaker 13: it's a city facility, so we're trying to manage our
- 38:52Speaker 13: budget and add the things that we can and also
- 38:54Speaker 13: look forward because what we want out of this is
- 38:57Speaker 13: a long term lease. Listen, the city of Charleston needs bay.
- 39:00Speaker 13: We are going to have baseball. We just have to
- 39:02Speaker 13: work out things in the lease. I'll say this to you.
- 39:05Speaker 13: We've invested in the ballpark over the past couple of years,
- 39:08Speaker 13: more than ever except when it was you know, built,
- 39:11Speaker 13: and especially with the turf. It was a it was
- 39:13Speaker 13: a massive project. And we continue to look at what
- 39:17Speaker 13: are the things that they need to keep a team here.
- 39:22Speaker 13: And so is it everything from netting to locker room.
- 39:26Speaker 13: You know, by the way, it's not the lap of luxury.
- 39:29Speaker 13: It's you know, simple things, but it's you know, it's
- 39:31Speaker 13: important stuff like upgrading bathrooms and tiling and you know,
- 39:35Speaker 13: some new carpeting.
- 39:36Speaker 14: It just things like that.
- 39:37Speaker 13: Anytime you do a lease, and people who know run
- 39:40Speaker 13: businesses understand this as well. You've got to make sure
- 39:43Speaker 13: that the lease suits everyone. So those are just the
- 39:45Speaker 13: things that we're working on. So we have an extension
- 39:47Speaker 13: of this lease and looking at signing a lease in
- 39:50Speaker 13: the future for a long term stay for them, because
- 39:53Speaker 13: that's what we want Texas.
- 39:55Speaker 2: Can you ask the mayor about I mean this will auditorium.
- 39:57Speaker 2: They seem interested in making money and missing out the
- 39:59Speaker 2: medium sized concerence. Every day that building sends empty and
- 40:02Speaker 2: continues dilapidate.
- 40:03Speaker 13: No, we're not interested in losing money. I can promise
- 40:06Speaker 13: you that right now. But what we want to do
- 40:09Speaker 13: is do the right thing, not the quick thing. There
- 40:12Speaker 13: is nobody that understands how much we're losing more than
- 40:14Speaker 13: I do, maybe except for the management and OVG who
- 40:16Speaker 13: we have managing the facilities for us. What we did
- 40:20Speaker 13: last week is we had a great conversation with the
- 40:23Speaker 13: Colisseum and Convention Center Board. They have a Municipal Auditorium Committee,
- 40:30Speaker 13: three members of council, three members of the Colisseum and
- 40:33Speaker 13: Convention Center Board, and they went over and listened to
- 40:37Speaker 13: the findings of the ZMM group and the architects and
- 40:41Speaker 13: engineers about the structure and the facility where it is
- 40:46Speaker 13: right now, and then the charge of the board as
- 40:49Speaker 13: directed by their chair woman is to also understand what
- 40:56Speaker 13: other venues are like this across the country. What are
- 40:59Speaker 13: the things that we can do with the current building,
- 41:03Speaker 13: and what are the things that other cities of our
- 41:05Speaker 13: size need. There is no mistake we need. As a
- 41:08Speaker 13: matter of fact, I had a conversation this morning in
- 41:11Speaker 13: eight thirty this morning with somebody who clearly understood the
- 41:15Speaker 13: little theater at the Colisseum and Convention Center eight hundred
- 41:19Speaker 13: ish super important, the Clay Center super important, size the
- 41:23Speaker 13: coliseum and with the new seats, you know, ten eleven
- 41:27Speaker 13: thousand folks you can fit in there. Actually probably a
- 41:29Speaker 13: little bit more, but we are missing that and it
- 41:33Speaker 13: served us well that thirty eight hundred, that thirty eight
- 41:39Speaker 13: hundred mark to forty two hundred. So that's I think
- 41:42Speaker 13: that's what the texture is referring to make no mistake
- 41:45Speaker 13: about it. We understand how important it is, but we're
- 41:47Speaker 13: also going to take our time. It's a massive investment,
- 41:50Speaker 13: and this is something by the way, that is going
- 41:51Speaker 13: to far outlive this administration and other sowing to make
- 41:56Speaker 13: sure we do it right.
- 41:57Speaker 2: I had some and again we're talking with the Charles
- 41:59Speaker 2: Miami's good when we had some discussion the last couple
- 42:03Speaker 2: weeks about the term moment thing. Yeah, in Charleston, a
- 42:05Speaker 2: couple of city council folks reached out to me about coming,
- 42:08Speaker 2: and then three more reached out to me about coming on.
- 42:10Speaker 2: You want to state for the record where you are
- 42:12Speaker 2: on the termin situations for mayor city council.
- 42:16Speaker 14: Yeah, I'm super happy to.
- 42:17Speaker 13: I'll go ahead that, and then I'll pivot to the
- 42:19Speaker 13: thing I think we need to be talking about. I
- 42:22Speaker 13: think this discussion, as it's come up very quickly from
- 42:27Speaker 13: some is certainly an important discussion to have. We've been
- 42:31Speaker 13: having this conversation for many years now, but it needs
- 42:35Speaker 13: to be tied into I think the entire structure of
- 42:38Speaker 13: city government. I think when you've had a city government
- 42:41Speaker 13: that has been in place in this structure for one
- 42:44Speaker 13: hundred years dave plus, you need to look at all
- 42:48Speaker 13: of it, not just an office or an entity. I
- 42:52Speaker 13: am opposed to a very large council.
- 42:56Speaker 14: I just am. I always have been.
- 42:58Speaker 13: But by the way, when we arted those discussions many
- 43:01Speaker 13: years ago, we heard quite clearly from members of the public,
- 43:05Speaker 13: including members of city council, know we want a representative
- 43:09Speaker 13: government just for those who are listening, who may not know.
- 43:12Speaker 13: We have twenty six members of council. It's the largest
- 43:14Speaker 13: per capita in the country. Is it challenging? You better
- 43:17Speaker 13: believe it, because, Oh, by the way, the thing I'm
- 43:19Speaker 13: going to talk about here in just a minute, which
- 43:22Speaker 13: is what we focus on just in the past week,
- 43:25Speaker 13: as people are trying to shove things through and push
- 43:28Speaker 13: things through. Oh, by the way, it's an election season.
- 43:30Speaker 13: Go figure. We have to continue to run government. We
- 43:34Speaker 13: have to continue to be focused on the things that
- 43:37Speaker 13: we need to be focused on, like making sure the
- 43:39Speaker 13: fire department has a new ladder truck, making sure that
- 43:43Speaker 13: our police have the resources they need, our city employees,
- 43:46Speaker 13: making sure there're salts on the road.
- 43:47Speaker 14: So let me be very clear.
- 43:50Speaker 13: While I am in favor of a smaller city council,
- 43:55Speaker 13: I am not in favor for term limits for city council.
- 43:59Speaker 13: I am just not. I think in a time and
- 44:00Speaker 13: a space and a place that is so difficult to
- 44:03Speaker 13: get people to run, by the way, it is not
- 44:06Speaker 13: the lap of luxury. Public service is really really difficult. Nights,
- 44:10Speaker 13: weekends and holidays. I don't see my children, I don't
- 44:12Speaker 13: see my husband. It's a really really hard thing to do.
- 44:16Speaker 13: But I do believe in term limits for executive offices.
- 44:19Speaker 14: I do, yeah.
- 44:21Speaker 13: And what they are across the country are they're three
- 44:23Speaker 13: fours or two sixes. That's again I've studied this for years.
- 44:27Speaker 13: I am in favor of that. But doing it, you know,
- 44:32Speaker 13: piecemeal and not together looking at the entire structure, I
- 44:36Speaker 13: think is just you know, trying to shove things down
- 44:39Speaker 13: people's faces. The other thing will I will say to
- 44:41Speaker 13: you is when you work with twenty six folks. We
- 44:43Speaker 13: have twenty six council members. And by the way, that's
- 44:45Speaker 13: not the directors, that's not I have seven hundred and
- 44:48Speaker 13: fifty colleagues that we work with every day, and then
- 44:51Speaker 13: our businesses and then out on tens of thousands. I
- 44:54Speaker 13: think that it takes time. If you really want to
- 44:57Speaker 13: do something monumental and you really want to make good chance,
- 45:00Speaker 13: it actually takes time. It actually is the hardest thing
- 45:04Speaker 13: that people do. I used to say this all the time.
- 45:06Speaker 13: Senator Manchin used to say, I wanted to bring everybody
- 45:09Speaker 13: and we're going to sit down at the table, both sides.
- 45:11Speaker 13: And I remember hearing when he used to say that
- 45:13Speaker 13: and thinking, well, that how hard is that?
- 45:17Speaker 14: It's hard?
- 45:18Speaker 13: It's really, it's really challenging, and I think what people
- 45:20Speaker 13: are realizing is really challenging to sit down with folks
- 45:25Speaker 13: who may not agree with you, and maybe even some
- 45:27Speaker 13: people who may not like you, and have a good
- 45:30Speaker 13: and honest and upfront conversation.
- 45:33Speaker 14: That's where we need to be heading.
- 45:34Speaker 13: But these conversations do what I despise of the politics
- 45:40Speaker 13: that creeps into public service. Tonight, I'm going to present
- 45:44Speaker 13: a one hundred and thirty nine page, one hundred and
- 45:48Speaker 13: thirteen point six million dollar budget. Shouldn't we be talking
- 45:52Speaker 13: about that? Because I want to talk about that.
- 45:54Speaker 14: That's what we.
- 45:54Speaker 13: Should have people be talking about and asking questions about,
- 45:57Speaker 13: you know, what what are we doing to fun You know,
- 46:00Speaker 13: the capital that we need to have.
- 46:03Speaker 14: Our trucks are cars.
- 46:04Speaker 13: Municipal government is the government that should be focused on
- 46:09Speaker 13: public services to the people. We should be talking about
- 46:12Speaker 13: trash collection. We should be talking about our fire department,
- 46:16Speaker 13: our police department, all of public works. Those are our
- 46:20Speaker 13: park and rec systems. You're going to hear me talk
- 46:22Speaker 13: about that later on tonight. But what we are going
- 46:26Speaker 13: to continue to focus on in this season and throughout
- 46:30Speaker 13: is the reason why.
- 46:31Speaker 14: People elected us to be here.
- 46:33Speaker 13: Is to do the heavy lifting on stuff that, by
- 46:35Speaker 13: the way, you may not think it's sexy. This is
- 46:38Speaker 13: our job, these one hundred and thirty nine pages, that's
- 46:41Speaker 13: our job, all right.
- 46:41Speaker 2: We got to take a break. We're back with more
- 46:43Speaker 2: after this on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

- 47:12Speaker 3: It's just as important to him as as this to you.
- 47:14Speaker 3: If you're ever looking to build anything, I'd call Jerry
- 47:17Speaker 3: Construction because you know exactly you're going to get something
- 47:20Speaker 3: excellent every single time.

- 48:32Speaker 2: But Day violand Show and Finevidieline brownch you by by
- 48:34Speaker 2: your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. We were
- 48:37Speaker 2: already thinking about baseball. We were talking about it earlier. Were
- 48:39Speaker 2: go more Ballpark, great time now at security, season tickets, merchandise,
- 48:43Speaker 2: more dirty Birds, baseball dot com. Mayor do we have
- 48:45Speaker 2: any updates or anything that's happened with a couple things
- 48:48Speaker 2: them all and also with the Capitol Sports Complex Big
- 48:53Speaker 2: News made a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't
- 48:54Speaker 2: had a chance to have you on since then. No, No,
- 48:58Speaker 2: so Taco to talk about the Capital Sports Complex.
- 49:01Speaker 13: First, well, Capital Sports Complex, as many of your listeners
- 49:06Speaker 13: saw and through your reporting, through your outstanding news organization,
- 49:10Speaker 13: we received yet another milestone step forward with the federal
- 49:16Speaker 13: appropriation of seven million dollars thanks to Senator Shelley Mark
- 49:19Speaker 13: Capitau and Senator Jim Justice. And so this is you know,
- 49:23Speaker 13: these are the things that we are cheering certainly and celebrating,
- 49:29Speaker 13: you betcha. But what people want to know is what's
- 49:32Speaker 13: the date? Well tying into the mall, those conversations are continuing.
- 49:37Speaker 13: You heard me say it just last month that we
- 49:40Speaker 13: have been in discussions with the whole group about their
- 49:45Speaker 13: interest in giving them all to us, and what does
- 49:51Speaker 13: that look like and what does that look like for
- 49:55Speaker 13: the city. Quite frankly, and what is the liability that
- 49:57Speaker 13: we take on? And so we have start guarded developing.
- 50:02Speaker 13: What is in essence the framework of a development organization?
- 50:08Speaker 13: What does that look like, What do the mall assets
- 50:11Speaker 13: go into? What other cities and communities have done this.
- 50:16Speaker 13: It's a big undertaking. It's a huge undertaking. And you know,
- 50:20Speaker 13: through the past year and a half when you ask
- 50:23Speaker 13: for updates and you know you think I'm being cute
- 50:26Speaker 13: or cooy not giving you a straight answer. Listen, if
- 50:28Speaker 13: anybody is sitting here listening to well, the answer must
- 50:32Speaker 13: be really simple. You probably don't understand how complex this
- 50:35Speaker 13: problem really is. If you think that I have a
- 50:37Speaker 13: magic want and can make it happen tomorrow, I will.
- 50:39Speaker 13: This is what I want. I want that site to
- 50:41Speaker 13: be developed to the best and highest use it can
- 50:44Speaker 13: possibly be.
- 50:45Speaker 14: Is that the donation to the city. We think so.
- 50:48Speaker 13: But if it's something else, I'm all ears, Oh by
- 50:50Speaker 13: the way, I don't own it, and for me to
- 50:53Speaker 13: take it would be imminent domain, and that opens up
- 50:56Speaker 13: an entire can of worms for non development and negotiations
- 50:59Speaker 13: for years and shut a lot of things down. So
- 51:02Speaker 13: that's my answer to both of those questions.
- 51:04Speaker 2: All right, real quick, Yeah, salt supply in the city.
- 51:06Speaker 2: We got freezing rain rolling through this morning in certain areas.
- 51:10Speaker 2: They tell us that we may be done with winter,
- 51:13Speaker 2: but we've had some big snows in the past in
- 51:15Speaker 2: March and April in our part of the world. Thirty seconds,
- 51:18Speaker 2: where are we on salt supply in the city.
- 51:19Speaker 13: Thank you so much. We've got salt on the ground.
- 51:21Speaker 13: We have another order coming in. But let me not
- 51:24Speaker 13: mistake is just like what I talked to you about
- 51:26Speaker 13: the meat and potatoes of what we do. We are
- 51:29Speaker 13: negotiating right now to have a couple more tons dumped
- 51:33Speaker 13: on the ground, just in case. Do I think this
- 51:35Speaker 13: might be our last one, you know, as we trickle in.
- 51:37Speaker 13: But as I just said to you, my birthday is
- 51:39Speaker 13: in a week. I have played golf on my birthday
- 51:41Speaker 13: and I've gone skiing on my birthday, and so mother
