- 0:01Speaker 1: I'm not getting hold of much more.
- 0:06Speaker 2: On campus week.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Good evening, everybody, and welcome to a very special edition
- 0:19Speaker 3: of Foul Territory presented by Fox One. I'm your host
- 0:23Speaker 3: Alana Rizzo in for Scott bron That is Todd Frasier,
- 0:27Speaker 3: that is Eric Kratz.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We are happy to be with you, guys.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Man, I did not think we would be coming to you,
- 0:32Speaker 3: guys with this type of finale.
- 0:34Speaker 2: It is what it is.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Congratulations to Venezuela, the victors.
- 0:39Speaker 2: In the WBC. Guys.
- 0:42Speaker 3: I'm not certain how I feel about this, but Todd,
- 0:45Speaker 3: what is the biggest reflection you have Over the course
- 0:48Speaker 3: of this two and a half week World Baseball Classic,
- 0:51Speaker 3: Team Venezuela.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Taken the wind.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it seemed like ever since they lost the Dominican Republic,
- 0:57Speaker 4: they found this wave in the ocean and they that
- 1:00Speaker 4: wave all the way to the championship. They were excited,
- 1:03Speaker 4: they had joy, they had chance, they had everything going
- 1:08Speaker 4: for him and they fell into this lovely little bond
- 1:12Speaker 4: that they came together with.
- 1:14Speaker 5: And it was.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Fun to watch. And that's one thing I'll take away
- 1:17Speaker 4: from it. I thought everybody played for each other. They
- 1:20Speaker 4: got the bunt down, they got a guy over. I
- 1:22Speaker 4: mean the pitching, the relief pitching for Venezuela. It was
- 1:26Speaker 4: so spot on. They did absolutely everything that they did right.
- 1:31Speaker 4: And you know, on the flip side, you look at USA.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Yeah they did good, but they didn't hit. They didn't hit.
- 1:36Speaker 4: That was the biggest takeaway I got for USA. They
- 1:39Speaker 4: didn't find a way to get the big hit. I
- 1:41Speaker 4: know Harper did, don't get me wrong, But when it
- 1:43Speaker 4: came down to it, two runs is not going to
- 1:45Speaker 4: win you a World Baseball Classic in the last two games.
- 1:48Speaker 4: So for them, it's hard. It's hard to swallow. It's
- 1:52Speaker 4: a hard pill to swallow if you're a USA you
- 1:55Speaker 4: know favorite, if you're a fan of them and you're
- 1:57Speaker 4: from there.
- 1:58Speaker 5: I mean, it's hard.
- 1:59Speaker 4: But you know, Venezuela came out and the excitement was
- 2:02Speaker 4: on their side right.
- 2:03Speaker 5: From Jump Street.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Eric.
- 2:05Speaker 3: So many people are going to question the moves always right,
- 2:07Speaker 3: hindsight is twenty twenty. Everyone's going to question Derosi's starting,
- 2:11Speaker 3: you know, Bregman over Gunner, Henderson, Will Smith over cal Rawley, this,
- 2:16Speaker 3: that and the other thing. But it came down to
- 2:18Speaker 3: the fact that you're right, Todd, they didn't hit.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Eric what's your takeaway from it?
- 2:23Speaker 6: My takeaways whenever there is superstars out in the field,
- 2:28Speaker 6: superstar pitching majority of the time beats superstar hitting. And
- 2:34Speaker 6: some superstars which I was not a superstar, would argue
- 2:38Speaker 6: with me. But really, like that's the reason they're superstar pitchers.
- 2:43Speaker 6: Those are the dudes that get that normally shut down
- 2:46Speaker 6: the best players, the best players. They will they clip.
- 2:50Speaker 6: Will they clip a guy here and there, absolutely, but
- 2:53Speaker 6: they beat up on the other guys. They beat up
- 2:55Speaker 6: on the guys that are there and aren't as aren't
- 2:59Speaker 6: as good of pitchers as they are of hitters. And
- 3:02Speaker 6: when you go head to head, superstar is superstar, I
- 3:05Speaker 6: don't care what time of year it is. Rarely are
- 3:08Speaker 6: the superstars on the other team. Like if you're facing Scooble,
- 3:12Speaker 6: rarely is Aaron Judges automatically just going three for three
- 3:16Speaker 6: against Scooble. No, you hope he clips them. When he's
- 3:18Speaker 6: facing Garret Crochet, there's gonna be a few strikeouts here there,
- 3:22Speaker 6: but you hope he lasts till the eighth inning and
- 3:24Speaker 6: Judge gets another shot and then clips him, hits a
- 3:27Speaker 6: dinger and you win one. Nothing Like that's how you
- 3:29Speaker 6: got to beat superstars. I just didn't think tonight Eduardo
- 3:32Speaker 6: Ariguez was gonna be that superstar.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Oh man, did he show up tonight for Venezuela?
- 3:39Speaker 3: So many folks are gonna ask why wasn't Mason Miller
- 3:41Speaker 3: in this game? What's going on with Mark Drosso? Why
- 3:44Speaker 3: didn't he allow Mason Miller to pitch? But there's things
- 3:47Speaker 3: going into this game cratzy that people don't understand. Mason Miller.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Ken Rosenthaler, our friend and our colleague, talked about the
- 3:55Speaker 3: fact that Mason Miller wasn't necessarily going to be available
- 3:58Speaker 3: to pitch in the game. There's so many different things
- 4:02Speaker 3: that are hamstringing a manager in this situation.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Mason Miller wasn't available.
- 4:12Speaker 6: And if he was available, I haven't heard that he
- 4:14Speaker 6: wasn't available, But if he was available, I mean, are
- 4:17Speaker 6: you going to not put Garrett Whitlock in the same
- 4:19Speaker 6: inning that he is dominated and hasn't given up a
- 4:23Speaker 6: run the entire WBC. No, the plan was you go
- 4:26Speaker 6: Whitlock and then you go Mason Miller. When if you
- 4:31Speaker 6: need if you need it in extras there like I
- 4:34Speaker 6: get it, I get it. Mason Miller is supposed to
- 4:37Speaker 6: supposed to pitch. Maybe he wasn't available. We I don't know,
- 4:41Speaker 6: I haven't heard.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not certain either.
- 4:44Speaker 3: I mean there was talk, of course that maybe he
- 4:46Speaker 3: wasn't going to be available based on how he felt.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Craig Stamm and the manager of the Padres, was saying
- 4:51Speaker 3: that we're going to see how this goes. But you're right,
- 4:54Speaker 3: you know, you look at it like Garret Whitlock gave
- 4:56Speaker 3: it up. But then you look at it also that,
- 4:58Speaker 3: well you're a bray you of the Reds is the
- 5:00Speaker 3: one that hit the two run home runs. So I mean,
- 5:02Speaker 3: there's just so many different things that go through your
- 5:05Speaker 3: mind as a as a fan, as an analyst of whatever.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Watching this game, I'm a little shell shocked.
- 5:13Speaker 3: To be honest with you, I did not Todd give
- 5:15Speaker 3: Venezuela as much credit as I guess maybe I should have.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I mean, was this was this the better team? The
- 5:22Speaker 2: better team win?
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 5:25Speaker 5: I mean right now I would have to say yes.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Ultimately, they came out fired up, they took the pitches
- 5:31Speaker 4: they need, they got guys on base. It just didn't
- 5:34Speaker 4: seem like USA found a way to pit the ball.
- 5:37Speaker 4: They had one hit for a long time there, and
- 5:39Speaker 4: that's frustrating. You're facing a lefty pitcher and you know,
- 5:44Speaker 4: he absolutely dominated and that's that's the bottom line. They
- 5:48Speaker 4: came out in the last three or four three games,
- 5:50Speaker 4: excuse me, and they pitched the best that they could
- 5:54Speaker 4: do and it was their time. And yeah, I'm shocked too.
- 5:58Speaker 4: I'm ultimately blown away. How I say, did not come
- 6:01Speaker 4: out and hit the baseball and put up six, eight,
- 6:04Speaker 4: ten runs. I was waiting for that output and never came.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And guess what, when you do that in baseball, things
- 6:11Speaker 4: will not go your way because you're playing against the
- 6:13Speaker 4: best of the best from each country.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Eric is Bryce Harper elite again?
- 6:22Speaker 6: Brice Harper is the same guy he was last year.
- 6:26Speaker 6: He is the same guy that has been motivated to
- 6:29Speaker 6: be the best that he can be. Is he elite
- 6:32Speaker 6: again because of one swing?
- 6:34Speaker 1: No? Is he clutch? Yes? That never changed.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Even if he flied that one to the warning track,
- 6:43Speaker 6: He's still he still is the guy that you went
- 6:46Speaker 6: up in the big situations. He's proven that and I
- 6:50Speaker 6: think there's other guys on the team that can do that,
- 6:53Speaker 6: but he's proven it in the playoffs for the Phillies.
- 6:56Speaker 6: And now he did it again in a big spot
- 6:58Speaker 6: to pull Team USA tied to too late in the game.
- 7:03Speaker 1: What a massive homer that was.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Honestly though, Eduardo Rodriguez Todd four and a third scoreless
- 7:08Speaker 3: innings inning against Team USA. A lineup that is stacked.
- 7:13Speaker 3: We've talked about it so much. This is the best
- 7:15Speaker 3: American lineup we've ever seen in the WBC.
- 7:18Speaker 2: And it's so funny.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I mean, I guess not funny, but this is a
- 7:20Speaker 3: guy that struggled with Arizona over the last couple of seasons.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I mean an ERA over five over a course of
- 7:27Speaker 3: you know, two hundred and four and a third innings pitched.
- 7:29Speaker 3: And he comes out and he just shoves, Like what
- 7:31Speaker 3: does that mean? Like, how does that happen? You have
- 7:34Speaker 3: an elite lineup in the in the United States and
- 7:37Speaker 3: Warder Areas.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Comes out and just shoves. How does that possible? Baseball
- 7:43Speaker 2: doesn't make sense? Make it make sense to me?
- 7:45Speaker 4: Well, here's why it does make sense. You got Salvador
- 7:48Speaker 4: Perez behind a plate. You got a veteran catcher who
- 7:52Speaker 4: absolutely knows each hit or that he's facing, and he
- 7:56Speaker 4: manipulated that strike zone so perfectly against guy like the
- 8:00Speaker 4: captain Aaron Judge who had a couple of strikeouts. He
- 8:03Speaker 4: was forcing him to throw that hard inside and throw
- 8:07Speaker 4: that change up and nobody else could figure out how
- 8:09Speaker 4: to hit. They got one hit against him. He did
- 8:12Speaker 4: absolutely phenomenal. Give credit to Salvi Perez. They put the
- 8:15Speaker 4: right catcher in there at the right time. They pushed
- 8:19Speaker 4: all the right buttons and that's ultimately, and when they
- 8:22Speaker 4: went down, or excuse me, when the game got tied.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Next thing, you know, a walk can't do that. That's
- 8:29Speaker 4: a big play in the game. Find a way to
- 8:31Speaker 4: let Luisa rise try and hit one out of the park.
- 8:34Speaker 4: You know what I mean, throw strikes. I know that
- 8:36Speaker 4: three to one pitch I think was a strike, But
- 8:38Speaker 4: ultimately that's the way it goes. That's the human nature
- 8:41Speaker 4: of the game. Gotta find a way to get that out.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Eric.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Let me ask you this. We talked so much the
- 8:46Speaker 2: other day.
- 8:46Speaker 3: When the USA played the Dominican Republic and bested the
- 8:50Speaker 3: DR it was a lot. It was three reasons. Number one,
- 8:54Speaker 3: base running number two. They were two for nine with
- 8:57Speaker 3: runners in scoring position. Number three. USA had really good pitching.
- 9:01Speaker 3: So let me ask you this. When it comes to Venezuela,
- 9:03Speaker 3: it was the Venezuelan hitters that stepped up in the
- 9:07Speaker 3: big moments right, stepped up when they needed it most.
- 9:10Speaker 3: You have a bray you obviously with the home run
- 9:12Speaker 3: Suarez Mikel Garcia early on in the game. Was this
- 9:16Speaker 3: just a matter of the Venezuelan hitters capitalizing when they
- 9:20Speaker 3: needed to at the right time.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I mean, what do you make of it overall?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:26Speaker 6: I mean, for sure they capitalized when they needed I
- 9:29Speaker 6: mean they struck out ten times. Team USA struck out
- 9:33Speaker 6: seven times. I mean struck out seven times. Team USA
- 9:36Speaker 6: struck out ten times. The batters did like, they both
- 9:40Speaker 6: walked three times both teams. Venezuela had six hits, Team
- 9:46Speaker 6: USA had three hits. Like they put together overall in
- 9:51Speaker 6: their lineup, they put together better at bats top to
- 9:54Speaker 6: bottom to get them in the situation that they were in.
- 9:58Speaker 6: If you're only ever looking for one swing, well that
- 10:03Speaker 6: could be the case with Venezuela too. Like Hinneo Suarez
- 10:06Speaker 6: is in there for one thing, one swing, and he
- 10:09Speaker 6: got the three to two and he threw him a
- 10:11Speaker 6: change up. He had to throw a strike, or at
- 10:14Speaker 6: least in that moment, he thought he had to throw
- 10:16Speaker 6: a strike because he threw the fastball up the pitch
- 10:18Speaker 6: before and then he just landed the He landed the
- 10:22Speaker 6: strike middle middle, and Suarez came through a guy that
- 10:26Speaker 6: is really boom or bust or walk, and he came
- 10:29Speaker 6: through with a massive double. Like there's plenty of situation.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Not plenty, but there were some situations where you would
- 10:36Speaker 6: have said, Okay, Team USA is going to come through here,
- 10:38Speaker 6: but it was still they were waiting for somebody to
- 10:42Speaker 6: come through with a big homer. They were waiting for
- 10:43Speaker 6: Judge to come through with a big homer with a
- 10:45Speaker 6: runner on first. Like, to me, that's not the way
- 10:50Speaker 6: you normally win close games is by, oh, we got
- 10:54Speaker 6: a guy on. And every time the United States got
- 10:56Speaker 6: a guy on, he was on first base with two outs.
- 11:00Speaker 6: And the only guy that got a hit against at
- 11:02Speaker 6: Guardo Rodriguez early was Bryce terraang so is left on left.
- 11:08Speaker 6: So it's really to me, it's not.
- 11:10Speaker 1: At all on d Row. To me, it's not at
- 11:12Speaker 1: all on the pitching.
- 11:14Speaker 6: I really think it's a rest with the lineup and
- 11:17Speaker 6: they weren't able to get that big hit because I
- 11:20Speaker 6: think that's what they were looking for, one big hit
- 11:22Speaker 6: instead of trying to figure out how to string hits together,
- 11:26Speaker 6: which is really tough against the line, which against the
- 11:30Speaker 6: pitchers that Venezuela kept running out there.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Todd, Aaron Judge was zero for four in this game.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Three ks. He's going to take a lot of criticism
- 11:40Speaker 3: just because he's Aaron Judge, right, I mean rightfully? So
- 11:42Speaker 3: we expect so much of this man, captain of the Yankees,
- 11:47Speaker 3: captain of the USA squad.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Is the criticism.
- 11:54Speaker 3: Justified when it comes to number ninety nine in this
- 11:56Speaker 3: particular tournament or in this particular game rather, Yeah.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I think yes, But I think ultimately Aaron's gonna take
- 12:06Speaker 4: it on the chin and say, hey, you know this
- 12:08Speaker 4: is on me.
- 12:09Speaker 5: I didn't do my job. You know, it's one game.
- 12:12Speaker 4: So if you don't do good, and it's one game,
- 12:15Speaker 4: you're gonna get criticized, and not just the nature of
- 12:17Speaker 4: the beasts. You get one chance to win a World
- 12:20Speaker 4: Baseball Classic. It's not best out of three, it's not
- 12:22Speaker 4: best out of seven. So yeah, he's gonna take the criticism.
- 12:26Speaker 4: He's gonna take it with his chin up high and understand, listen,
- 12:29Speaker 4: I didn't do my job, you know. But in the
- 12:33Speaker 4: back of everybody's mind, is nobody did their job as
- 12:36Speaker 4: the hitters. Nobody came through, They didn't get guys in
- 12:39Speaker 4: scoring position. Give Venezuela the credit. Like we talked about,
- 12:43Speaker 4: USA did not hit, and guess what they didn't win.
- 12:46Speaker 5: That is baseball defense wins championships. We get that.
- 12:50Speaker 4: But if you don't hit and score runs, you're not
- 12:52Speaker 4: gonna win any games.
- 12:53Speaker 5: And that's ultimately what it came down to.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Eric, we talked about the criticism whether or not it's
- 12:58Speaker 3: warranted for Aaron Judge, what about Mark de Rosa? What
- 13:02Speaker 3: does this mean for d row moving forward? Is this
- 13:05Speaker 3: is this his fault? I mean, he can't hit right,
- 13:08Speaker 3: he can't go out there and hit. He's the manager,
- 13:11Speaker 3: he's not the player.
- 13:12Speaker 2: So what is your.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Overall takeaway about the criticism that you know d Ro's
- 13:18Speaker 3: going to face.
- 13:20Speaker 6: I mean, I think from now on, I don't think that.
- 13:23Speaker 6: I don't think it's fair criticism. I didn't see anything
- 13:26Speaker 6: that I would have done differently during this game. I
- 13:29Speaker 6: felt like the lineup construction was there. I felt like
- 13:32Speaker 6: he stuck with Bryce Harper through thick and thin here
- 13:36Speaker 6: and he paid off. He got two of the three
- 13:37Speaker 6: hits tonight and drove the two run homer that tied
- 13:41Speaker 6: the game up late. So to me, I think the
- 13:44Speaker 6: only way, the only way he's not brought back to
- 13:47Speaker 6: do this in the next WBC is if the players
- 13:51Speaker 6: are like, nah, we need a different voice, or nah,
- 13:54Speaker 6: we're looking for somebody that's currently just off the field,
- 13:58Speaker 6: something like that. I mean, look at you. Look at
- 14:00Speaker 6: the guys that they had on the bench. It was
- 14:02Speaker 6: a lot of guys that are very very well respected,
- 14:06Speaker 6: but they don't have a ton of coaching experience in
- 14:10Speaker 6: pro ball. And to me, I don't know that that's
- 14:13Speaker 6: what's needed. I don't know if that's what would have
- 14:17Speaker 6: helped them win the game. No, I don't think so.
- 14:19Speaker 6: So to me, the only way those dudes don't come
- 14:22Speaker 6: back is if they A don't want to or B
- 14:25Speaker 6: the players weren't happy. And to me, all the players
- 14:28Speaker 6: that we've talked to, all the players that we've seen
- 14:31Speaker 6: and heard the way that they're talking, have had a
- 14:33Speaker 6: great time. Like Terry Scoble just talking about driving through
- 14:37Speaker 6: the rainstorm to get back down there to he threw
- 14:40Speaker 6: a pen and he hung out in the dugout and
- 14:41Speaker 6: he's like, I feel like I've known these guys for
- 14:43Speaker 6: a few months, not just a few weeks. And that's
- 14:46Speaker 6: the kind of environment you have to build. And then
- 14:49Speaker 6: you put the guys out there, you throw the balls
- 14:51Speaker 6: out on the field, and you say, go play and
- 14:53Speaker 6: try to win the.

- 15:19Speaker 3: If you look at the comments, gentlemen, everyone in the
- 15:22Speaker 3: chat just talking about this game. Of course, everyone's like,
- 15:25Speaker 3: why didn't you just put Mason Miller in? It was
- 15:29Speaker 3: known before the game. Mark Deurosis said Todd that Mason
- 15:32Speaker 3: Miller was available.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Obviously, it was a whole situation.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Garret, Garrett Whitlock comes in instead of Mason Miller. You
- 15:38Speaker 3: could have used Mason Miller at a later time. It's funny,
- 15:41Speaker 3: you know, it's so easy to be a manager when
- 15:43Speaker 3: you're sitting on your couch right or when you're sitting
- 15:45Speaker 3: in your hotel rooms. You're getting ready to do Yankees
- 15:47Speaker 3: games coming up. It's so funny how everybody has the answer.
- 15:52Speaker 3: But there's a reason that Garrett Whitlock was in the
- 15:55Speaker 3: game before Mason Miller was in the game, right, I mean,
- 15:59Speaker 3: everybody has a everyone has an opinion, But there's a
- 16:02Speaker 3: reason that Whitlock was in before Mason Millar.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I mean he's given up zero runs. I mean, the
- 16:08Speaker 4: guy has been absolutely insane. He's been great. I don't
- 16:12Speaker 4: think that that was an easy decision as a manager
- 16:15Speaker 4: to bring him in and then ultimately if they found
- 16:18Speaker 4: a way to get a run. If not, yeah, maybe
- 16:20Speaker 4: you think about bringing Mason Miller in after that. But
- 16:24Speaker 4: you know, I don't second guess that at all. You know,
- 16:28Speaker 4: you think about de Rosa, you talked about him as
- 16:30Speaker 4: a manager.
- 16:31Speaker 5: I thought he did well.
- 16:32Speaker 4: You know, ultimately, the comment was probably a big problem
- 16:36Speaker 4: that people still aren't getting over with, which they should.
- 16:41Speaker 4: He made a mistake and he and it is what
- 16:43Speaker 4: it is. He owned up to it in his own way.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Move on.
- 16:46Speaker 4: They made it to the championship. They didn't hit the ball.
- 16:50Speaker 4: That's what they got to live with and they got
- 16:52Speaker 4: to move on. I'm excited to see if they Finally
- 16:54Speaker 4: they get this team back in the Olympics coming up
- 16:57Speaker 4: in a couple of years, so we'll see about that.
- 16:59Speaker 4: But yeah, this one still stinks. This one's gonna stink
- 17:02Speaker 4: for a little while, especially until you know, the regular
- 17:05Speaker 4: season starts. So hopefully it starts tomorrow. But no, it's not.
- 17:08Speaker 4: But yes, congrats to Venezuela.
- 17:11Speaker 2: They deserved it one hundred percent.
- 17:12Speaker 3: And Eric, let's look at I mean the facts, right,
- 17:14Speaker 3: the US didn't hit you look up and down the lineup.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I mean Harper obviously was two two for four. Rather
- 17:20Speaker 3: I mean Bryce terrang was one for three. That's it,
- 17:24Speaker 3: that's your hits, right, I mean Venezuela doubled up on
- 17:26Speaker 3: the hits and not a ton. I mean they only
- 17:28Speaker 3: had six hits in thirty one at bats, but in
- 17:31Speaker 3: total in thirty one at bats. But the fact of
- 17:32Speaker 3: the matter is they came up clutch in the situations
- 17:36Speaker 3: that they needed to. I mean, obviously Bryce Harper had
- 17:38Speaker 3: the two run home run, but in the little moments
- 17:43Speaker 3: that counted, Venezuela made the most of it. So let's
- 17:45Speaker 3: not take away from what they were able to accomplish totally.
- 17:50Speaker 6: This is less about what the and I think we've
- 17:55Speaker 6: kind of alluded to it. Less about what the what
- 17:58Speaker 6: USA couldn't do, and more about out what Venezuela was
- 18:01Speaker 6: able to do. They were able to overcome the fact
- 18:04Speaker 6: that they played last night they didn't have I guess
- 18:09Speaker 6: they did have almost everybody but Avila, who gave him
- 18:14Speaker 6: some good innings. He wasn't available. Palencia wasn't available unless
- 18:18Speaker 6: it was a safe situation. So if they were tied
- 18:22Speaker 6: in that situation in the bottom of the ninth, Palencia
- 18:25Speaker 6: wouldn't be in there. So things fell in place for them.
- 18:28Speaker 6: But they fell in place because they took advantage of
- 18:31Speaker 6: situations that I think both teams had at different points.
- 18:35Speaker 6: The close out safe called second base on the stolen base.
- 18:41Speaker 6: Whitlock didn't keep them close because Sinejas is not He's
- 18:47Speaker 6: not fast, he's not like blazing speed, but he's able
- 18:50Speaker 6: to take the base high leg kick. Will Smith made
- 18:53Speaker 6: a good throw, not perfect throw, could have been called out.
- 18:57Speaker 6: Could Like there's so many plays in these types of games,
- 19:00Speaker 6: any kind of winner take all type of game, You're
- 19:03Speaker 6: going to look at all the little plays and say
- 19:06Speaker 6: who played better Venezuela. Venezuela one played better, and they
- 19:11Speaker 6: deserve to win this. They were really close other years,
- 19:15Speaker 6: I mean they lost. They had the game in hand
- 19:17Speaker 6: in the eighth inning last time they played Team USA
- 19:19Speaker 6: until Trey Turner's home run which sent the US to
- 19:23Speaker 6: the finals and not Venezuela.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And this time Venezuela came out on top.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Yeah, congratulations to Venezuela. It was It was a very
- 19:32Speaker 3: good game. And this whole tournament has been so incredibly special.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I'm going to ask you guys this. It is time
- 19:38Speaker 3: now for our MLB Rivals Player of the Game. And
- 19:44Speaker 3: it's funny when you do this right, it kind of
- 19:46Speaker 3: changes every other second. For one minute, it's like, Oh,
- 19:49Speaker 3: it's the starting pitcher, Then all of a sudden, it's like,
- 19:52Speaker 3: oh it's eu Henio Suarez.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Then all of a sudden, it's like, oh it's Bryce Harper.
- 19:55Speaker 2: So Todd, I will I will defer to you first.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Who is your em BE Rivals Player of the Game.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I know Kratz, he loves this because he never gets
- 20:05Speaker 4: the first try here, which is great.
- 20:07Speaker 5: Appreciate it.
- 20:08Speaker 4: And guess what, I'm not gonna pass either. I'm gonna
- 20:11Speaker 4: keep getting here. I'm gonna go with me and Jane
- 20:15Speaker 4: the boy I came up and played with with the
- 20:17Speaker 4: Reds when he came over there, Eu Henniosuarez absolutely clutch
- 20:22Speaker 4: Jean Big Homer yesterday and then comes up big here
- 20:26Speaker 4: with the RBI to win the game. You saw him
- 20:29Speaker 4: in the press confer in the interview after the game.
- 20:32Speaker 4: The dude was fired up, was lit. He was just
- 20:36Speaker 4: absolutely juiced and thanking everybody and so happy. He's a happy,
- 20:40Speaker 4: go lucky guy. Well deserved. He is my MVP of
- 20:44Speaker 4: the game.
- 20:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm so glad that you get to go first,
- 20:47Speaker 6: because you always pick the one that's not really the
- 20:50Speaker 6: MVP of the game. It's easily Eduardo Riguez. This team
- 20:54Speaker 6: was playing last night. They had to play a game
- 20:58Speaker 6: within twenty four hours and in these this environment where
- 21:02Speaker 6: all we.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Talked about the whole time.
- 21:03Speaker 6: Oh, Mark Derosi's hands are tied. A lot of these managers'
- 21:06Speaker 6: hands are tied with the pitching. If he doesn't do that,
- 21:10Speaker 6: Venezuela is cooked because they don't have all their guys
- 21:14Speaker 6: in their pen. They don't have they don't have enough
- 21:17Speaker 6: innings really to with that. Withstand what was going to happen?
- 21:21Speaker 1: And you know what, and.
- 21:22Speaker 6: Waldriguez showed up really like he hasn't shown up in
- 21:27Speaker 6: a long time. And if I'm a Diamondbacks fan, I'm like, yeah,
- 21:32Speaker 6: I love this because this means our guy is going
- 21:36Speaker 6: to be ready to go and you sit there and
- 21:39Speaker 6: you go Okay.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Didn't expect this.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Thought it was going to be a game where we
- 21:43Speaker 6: had to kind of piece it together. I thought they
- 21:45Speaker 6: kind of took at Wardo Riguez out a little early.
- 21:47Speaker 6: So that's my MVP. But the MVP of the tournament
- 21:51Speaker 6: for me is Palencia. He gets another save, absolutely dominant.
- 21:56Speaker 6: I don't even know who won MVP of WBC, but
- 21:59Speaker 6: to me, if it's definitely from the winning team, it's
- 22:02Speaker 6: either Palencia or trying to think who else had a
- 22:06Speaker 6: good series for him, somebody, somebody with the sticks.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Well, how about let's get let's get.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Your braid is great, but not mean, gean, geez, Todd,
- 22:15Speaker 6: you're such a homer.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Mean, listen, will your bray you Todd's gonna smash okay,
- 22:26Speaker 3: And so as far as smashing path will you're a
- 22:29Speaker 3: braid you Let's do this right, And I mean that
- 22:31Speaker 3: in the most respectful way. I mean the guy obviously
- 22:35Speaker 3: a couple of massive, massive, key at bats.
- 22:39Speaker 2: This is.
- 22:40Speaker 3: This is a kid that continues to just rise in
- 22:44Speaker 3: terms of what he's been able to do.
- 22:47Speaker 2: He's a great outfielder for the Red Sox.
- 22:50Speaker 3: He has that clutch gene, he's a good defensive outfielder,
- 22:53Speaker 3: and he's just he just came up big in this tournament.
- 22:56Speaker 2: So not that anybody asked me, but I'm going to.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Give some love to will A Bray You as far
- 23:01Speaker 3: as my MLB Rivals Player.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Of the Game, I feel I feel like he deserves that.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Well well said too, for sure, has some really really
- 23:12Speaker 4: clutch It's home is that home run?
- 23:14Speaker 5: It's a different ballgame, so yes, very true.
- 23:19Speaker 1: In the Japan game either.
- 23:22Speaker 3: That's That's what I'm saying. The man came up big.
- 23:26Speaker 3: We are smashing as far.
- 23:28Speaker 2: As that is.
- 23:29Speaker 3: It's like an inside joke with the three of us
- 23:31Speaker 3: on this whole on this whole postgame show, but.
- 23:34Speaker 2: It is what it is.

- 24:03Speaker 3: three years. It may not have been the way that
- 24:06Speaker 3: we wanted it to end up, obviously. I believe we're
- 24:08Speaker 3: all USA fans here, we're all born here. But man,
- 24:12Speaker 3: this is a fun tournament.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Todd.
- 24:13Speaker 2: What's your overarching thought about the World Baseball Classic?
- 24:17Speaker 5: Tike?
- 24:17Speaker 4: I think it was fantastic. I think this is truly remarkable.
- 24:21Speaker 4: If you're not a baseball fan, you're a baseball fan
- 24:24Speaker 4: now watching this you can root for teams like a
- 24:26Speaker 4: great Britain or how about in Italy who's undefeated until
- 24:30Speaker 4: the semifinals. I mean if you have roots or any
- 24:33Speaker 4: lineage to any of these countries. Yeah, you're into baseball now,
- 24:37Speaker 4: and I'm so glad this is going on. You saw
- 24:40Speaker 4: the spirit, you saw the enthusiastic players and fans. This
- 24:45Speaker 4: is something if you're a young man or woman watching
- 24:48Speaker 4: this game, you're going to be talking about when you're
- 24:51Speaker 4: older and you have kids. Hey do you remember when
- 24:54Speaker 4: we saw Venezuela win the World Baseball Classic in Miami?
- 24:57Speaker 1: Oh?
- 24:58Speaker 4: Yeah, this is fantastic. Bravo to everybody involved.
- 25:02Speaker 1: You know what I have to say.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Oh G, another thing that baseball is doing really well. Gee,
- 25:08Speaker 6: I wonder if we could just not have a workstoppage.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Oh G, they just sold out Loan Depot Park in Miami.
- 25:16Speaker 6: You know what, it took a little bit of extra effort.
- 25:19Speaker 6: It took really good players to come down to that ballpark.
- 25:22Speaker 6: Oh man, I guess Miami is just not a great
- 25:25Speaker 6: place for baseball. It's not what it looked like tonight.
- 25:30Speaker 6: I think it's maybe more of the product that you
- 25:32Speaker 6: put on the field. And this is such a great
- 25:36Speaker 6: thing for baseball. I hope it continues. I hope the
- 25:39Speaker 6: next time we see all these dudes on the field
- 25:42Speaker 6: are when the big leaguers get to play in the Olympics.
- 25:44Speaker 6: But if some people that want to ruin the fund
- 25:47Speaker 6: and no fun police don't let them in, then you
- 25:51Speaker 6: know what, maybe we need to we need we need
- 25:54Speaker 6: to revisit who's who's making the decisions on things. But
- 25:57Speaker 6: until then, this is an incredible series, is incredible, classic tournament,
- 26:03Speaker 6: whatever you want to call it.
- 26:05Speaker 1: And they killed it.
- 26:06Speaker 6: They killed it, and baseball couldn't be higher and couldn't
- 26:09Speaker 6: be flourishing more I agreed.
