- 0:02Speaker 1: Here we go, Todfather, Kratz braun with you.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Jackie Robinson Day April fifteenth, also Tax Day, but more
- 0:09Speaker 2: importantly Jackie Robinson Day.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Krats.
- 0:12Speaker 2: We're gonna do Kratz at tire right off the jump
- 0:15Speaker 2: because it's relevant.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I mean, if you got it, you gotta wear it
- 0:20Speaker 3: on this day. Like everybody's gonna wear number forty two.
- 0:24Speaker 3: The fact that I got you can't see it on
- 0:26Speaker 3: the back, but obviously they had a cool patch this year.
- 0:28Speaker 3: This was twenty nineteen. I don't know if they do
- 0:31Speaker 3: the same patch every year, but everybody wears number forty two.
- 0:34Speaker 3: This was the one jersey that I got to keep
- 0:39Speaker 3: Slash Soul because every other year's every other year. It
- 0:43Speaker 3: was like you're walking in from the field and they
- 0:46Speaker 3: take the jersey and they take it right off your back,
- 0:49Speaker 3: and you're like, I'd like to keep that, Like it's
- 0:51Speaker 3: it's something that is It's one of the only memorable
- 0:55Speaker 3: jerseys that I have besides like different like milestones in
- 0:58Speaker 3: my own personal career, and it's something that I know
- 1:01Speaker 3: exactly where it's at, like it's my time with the
- 1:04Speaker 3: Giants was really short. But the fact that I got
- 1:06Speaker 3: to wear the forty two jersey and keep it pretty cool.
- 1:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say misplaced the jersey. Of course I
- 1:14Speaker 4: stole it. I stole it. Now you didn't.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Still you wore the jersey. It's your jersey. You know,
- 1:21Speaker 5: you should be able to keep it. But yeah, man,
- 1:23Speaker 5: what he endured, what he had to go through, you know,
- 1:26Speaker 5: talking with guys like C. C. Sabathia, Brandon Phillips, and
- 1:30Speaker 5: you know just how enlightened and how they understand and
- 1:35Speaker 5: know that, you know, they wouldn't be here if it
- 1:37Speaker 5: wasn't for guys like Jackie Robinson playing in this in
- 1:39Speaker 5: baseball terms. But yeah, it's truly remarkable. I think it's
- 1:44Speaker 5: a great day for everybody all over the world, baseball
- 1:47Speaker 5: fans all over the world, to cherish and remember a
- 1:50Speaker 5: true hero, you know, on and off the field, of
- 1:53Speaker 5: Jackie Robinson.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Let's show the couple of uniforms that we have for
- 1:58Speaker 2: everyone before we get into the new So here's the
- 2:01Speaker 2: National Baseball Hall of Fame showing the jersey used by
- 2:04Speaker 2: the Dodgers to retire Jackie's iconic number forty two in
- 2:07Speaker 2: nineteen seventy two, preserved in the Hall of Fame collection.
- 2:11Speaker 2: And then this was a nice little addition for UCLA Baseball.
- 2:17Speaker 2: They just posted today how Jackie Robinson's granddaughter Sonya Robinson,
- 2:22Speaker 2: stepped into unveil UCLA's new Jackie Robinson inspired uniforms.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Love it, Love it very nice. I can't wait to
- 2:33Speaker 5: see the ones today. Maybe maybe a little throwback action,
- 2:36Speaker 5: but I don't know. I think they'll keep it kind
- 2:38Speaker 5: of newish. Maybe Dodgers have something really cool if their sleeves.
- 2:41Speaker 4: That'd be nice.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Always something good cooking on a daylight today, So we
- 2:46Speaker 2: think about Jackie, and I'm sure we'll get to more
- 2:50Speaker 2: on that throughout the show.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Let's get to some news.
- 2:52Speaker 2: A newsy day charging the mound with a big boy
- 2:59Speaker 2: contract for Kevin McGonagall. And we've got a big boy
- 3:02Speaker 2: guest right off the top here one of the stars
- 3:04Speaker 2: of Hot sheet on Baseball America and rights for BA,
- 3:07Speaker 2: Jeff Ponds, joining us right now. Jeff, good to see
- 3:09Speaker 2: you McGonagall hooking up with eight years and one hundred
- 3:12Speaker 2: and fifty million dollars on tax day. Maybe he saw
- 3:15Speaker 2: how much he was actually going to pull in on
- 3:17Speaker 2: the league minimum and said, you know what, one.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Fifty sounds good.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Your thoughts on this deal and the real rush we've
- 3:23Speaker 2: had of extensions during the season right now for top
- 3:26Speaker 2: end prospects turned big leaguers.
- 3:29Speaker 6: Yeah, and I think, you know, you look at it,
- 3:31Speaker 6: it's the biggest contract extension we've seen for technically a prospect.
- 3:36Speaker 6: He still has prospect status. It's not a contract where
- 3:40Speaker 6: he's signing after you know, they haven't seen him in
- 3:42Speaker 6: the big leagues. And I think, like we look at
- 3:44Speaker 6: the skills, you know, at the plate, we didn't have
- 3:47Speaker 6: a lot of doubt about what McGonagall could do, and
- 3:50Speaker 6: he's showing it, you know, in spades. He's hitting the
- 3:52Speaker 6: ball pretty hard, pretty consistently. The barrel rates fine, but
- 3:56Speaker 6: it's the underlying skills with McGonagall that's always kind of
- 3:58Speaker 6: been the selling point four point nine percent swinging strike rate.
- 4:02Speaker 6: In his first case of the big leagues, he's not
- 4:04Speaker 6: expanding the zone, making tons of contact in it. He
- 4:08Speaker 6: makes pitchers work for every out. I think you see
- 4:10Speaker 6: him grind out at bats and just the type of
- 4:13Speaker 6: hitter that he is. And then he's really versatile in
- 4:15Speaker 6: the field. I'm not gonna say he's gonna win a
- 4:17Speaker 6: Gold Glove at shortstop, but this is a guy that
- 4:19Speaker 6: has the ability to play second base, shortstop, third base,
- 4:23Speaker 6: all in an average or maybe slightly above average level
- 4:26Speaker 6: at peak. I think that's really valuable just in terms
- 4:28Speaker 6: of how you can build this team, how you can
- 4:31Speaker 6: put your lineup together from day to day. And he's just,
- 4:34Speaker 6: you know, he's a gritty Pennsylvania kid that you know,
- 4:36Speaker 6: just wants to go out there and win games. And
- 4:38Speaker 6: I think there's a lot to buy in here when
- 4:40Speaker 6: you're looking at a guy like McGonagall, And I think,
- 4:43Speaker 6: you know, the big thing I want to bring up is,
- 4:46Speaker 6: do you guys think that there is an impact in
- 4:50Speaker 6: terms of the labor stuff that's going to be down
- 4:52Speaker 6: the road as to why a lot of these contracts
- 4:54Speaker 6: are getting signed. You know, is there going to be
- 4:56Speaker 6: a salary cap our teams put potentially be trying to
- 5:00Speaker 6: buy years that maybe they're not going to get, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 6: in contracts or team control that they have now. I
- 5:08Speaker 6: kind of wonder if a lot of these really aggressive
- 5:11Speaker 6: extensions have something to do with, you know, the upcoming
- 5:14Speaker 6: you know, labor fight that's going to happen this offseason.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Jeff to other and you don't think so Kratz go ahead.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Not totally I mean, I can get really into big
- 5:25Speaker 3: conspiracy theories. My theory is there's a lot of money,
- 5:28Speaker 3: The market is flushed with money, and they're handing down
- 5:31Speaker 3: one hundred and fifty million dollars to guys that you
- 5:34Speaker 3: just don't know what he's gonna become. Is Kevin McDonald
- 5:37Speaker 3: hit twelve home runs a year and make make one
- 5:40Speaker 3: hundred and forty one hundred and fifty million dollars, Like
- 5:42Speaker 3: I think teams are like, ah, there, the market is
- 5:46Speaker 3: flushed with money. They're giving Cooper Pratt fifty million dollars
- 5:49Speaker 3: for it in two thirty eight. In double A they're
- 5:51Speaker 3: given Cole Emerson, who I think it could be next
- 5:54Speaker 3: Chase Uttley type of player. Ninety million eight hasn't even
- 5:57Speaker 3: sniffed the big league, So I don't if there's anything,
- 6:00Speaker 3: If there's any conspiracy theory, I think there could be
- 6:03Speaker 3: something in the CBA where if you sign younger guys,
- 6:07Speaker 3: guys that you drafted, came up through your system, it
- 6:10Speaker 3: doesn't hit against the luxury tax threshold type of thing.
- 6:15Speaker 3: That's my only conspiracy theory.
- 6:17Speaker 2: The other thing to keep in mind is, yeah, there
- 6:20Speaker 2: are some stricter limitation on money, like a cap, you
- 6:23Speaker 2: would expect more of a blow up after the season
- 6:26Speaker 2: with free agency. Last time we had the lockout, a
- 6:29Speaker 2: lot of guys were signed right before that, not that
- 6:31Speaker 2: there was as much of a fight.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Looming over a cap.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But to me, Jeff, I mean, with the people I've
- 6:37Speaker 2: spoken to, it's mostly just, Hey, the bargain and surplus
- 6:41Speaker 2: value on guys like this is so worth the risk.
- 6:44Speaker 2: In so many cases here, everyone's basically just looking for
- 6:46Speaker 2: the Hey, eight years one hundred mil for Ronald Acunya Junior.
- 6:50Speaker 2: If he was a free agent, he would have made
- 6:52Speaker 2: over five hundred million dollars, right, He's flat, He's year
- 6:55Speaker 2: stuff like that. So I think that's a big factor.
- 6:57Speaker 2: The only other part I'll say, and then I'll kick
- 6:59Speaker 2: it to.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I know his question is could there be maybe a
- 7:04Speaker 1: limitation on years?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Right, if we actually do see some drastic change in
- 7:08Speaker 2: the league, do they say, okay, free agency starts a
- 7:11Speaker 2: year sooner. Right, there's not the six or seven year balance.
- 7:15Speaker 2: It's just six, but now it's going to five or
- 7:18Speaker 2: whatever it is. It could be much less. And then
- 7:20Speaker 2: you go down and you look and you're like, ah,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I got my guy, my superstar locked in for double
- 7:24Speaker 2: the years because that part's not going to change.
- 7:26Speaker 1: A contract is a contract that's firm.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think, like, if you're going to cap salaries,
- 7:32Speaker 6: you know, the players Association has to get something on
- 7:35Speaker 6: the other side. And I think getting guys to free
- 7:37Speaker 6: agency earlier is important. I think there's a lot of
- 7:40Speaker 6: players now that are good players that don't get to
- 7:43Speaker 6: free agency in their prime earning years, you know, twenty seven,
- 7:46Speaker 6: twenty eight, twenty nine years old, good players, guys that
- 7:49Speaker 6: are all stars, Like a guy like Brendan Dunovan's not
- 7:51Speaker 6: going to get the free agency until he's thirty one
- 7:53Speaker 6: or thirty two. You know that happens two years earlier,
- 7:56Speaker 6: he's probably making quite a bit more money, So you know,
- 7:59Speaker 6: it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
- 8:01Speaker 6: I do think ultimately you're right, it's about surplus value.
- 8:04Speaker 6: It's about being able to get these guys under contract
- 8:07Speaker 6: and then looking back in two years and saying, yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 6: you know, Kevin McGonagall was worth X right now, but
- 8:12Speaker 6: we're only paying in this much. And you know, Roman Anthony,
- 8:16Speaker 6: we've seen so many of these sort of contracts over
- 8:18Speaker 6: the last couple of years, so really interesting to see
- 8:20Speaker 6: how it all comes together. I do believe in the player,
- 8:23Speaker 6: Kevin McGonagall. I think you look at the skills, I
- 8:26Speaker 6: think their power is going to come. I'm not too
- 8:28Speaker 6: worried about that. It's a guy that knows how to
- 8:30Speaker 6: backspin in the ball to his pull side and really
- 8:33Speaker 6: just is a super optimized profile at the plate and
- 8:36Speaker 6: strong enough defensively that you don't have questions as to like, Okay,
- 8:39Speaker 6: I worry about putting this guy in the field every
- 8:41Speaker 6: day and making us look bad. Kratz.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The world has a cord problem. Wires everywhere.
- 8:49Speaker 2: It's twenty twenty six and it is time to get
- 8:52Speaker 2: a Ridge wallet.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Five and one.
- 8:55Speaker 3: It's not a wallet, it's a charger. Look at this thing.
- 8:59Speaker 3: It sticks to your phone. You push the button, it
- 9:01Speaker 3: charges your phone while you can charge two different items
- 9:04Speaker 3: at the same time. Oh and don't.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Forget while it's charging.
- 9:09Speaker 3: You got a little a little lean to John that'll
- 9:12Speaker 3: help it sit right there.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Appreciate your Ridge wallet. This is so nice, which is
- 9:16Speaker 1: great for me.
- 9:17Speaker 2: If I'm at the airport, I'm watching a game, I
- 9:19Speaker 2: can charge five devices and then I can just watch
- 9:22Speaker 2: something on the phone. Of course, they still have the
- 9:23Speaker 2: wallets that are money too, and we know the code.
- 9:25Speaker 2: It's nice and simple.
- 9:26Speaker 6: It's foul foul.
- 9:29Speaker 1: One thing to pack. Five ways to power.
- 9:31Speaker 2: You can find Ridge's Power Bank at best Buy or
- 9:33Speaker 2: our listeners can get ten percent off at Ridge dot
- 9:35Speaker 2: com by using code foul at checkout. Head to Ridge
- 9:38Speaker 2: dot com, use code foul and you're all set. After
- 9:41Speaker 2: your purchase, they'll ask you where you heard about them?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Please support ft until them we sent you all right.
- 9:46Speaker 3: So, first of all, there's not gonna be a cap.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Second of all, you got me superjuiced because you said
- 9:52Speaker 3: a gritty Pennsylvania guy love that we should clip it
- 9:55Speaker 3: and just run it back and forth, gritty Pennsylvania guy
- 9:58Speaker 3: for all these soft new ins that are on the show.
- 10:01Speaker 3: But my question is where's the most value out of him?
- 10:06Speaker 3: Now they've locked in how much he costs. Where is
- 10:08Speaker 3: his most value is the fact that he's going to
- 10:10Speaker 3: be a guy that should play one hundred and sixty
- 10:12Speaker 3: two games bouncing around at different positions. Because to me,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I don't know that you're necessarily getting the value there
- 10:20Speaker 3: unless you build your lineup. Because you think about super showers,
- 10:23Speaker 3: you think about guys that are going to be on
- 10:25Speaker 3: the in the organization for eight years. You don't think, yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 3: he was a great utility guy. No, you think about
- 10:31Speaker 3: great utility guys. Is Josh Harrison the guy that's we're
- 10:34Speaker 3: gonna have on later in the show.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:38Speaker 6: I mean, but you also could think about in a
- 10:39Speaker 6: modern sense, Mookie Bets, right, Like, how valuable is Mooky
- 10:43Speaker 6: Bets to the Dodgers being able to, you know, build
- 10:46Speaker 6: that team the way they want to go after certain
- 10:48Speaker 6: free agents in the outfield, et cetera. I think it's
- 10:50Speaker 6: about flexibility, and you know that's something that I've heard
- 10:53Speaker 6: from team officials over the last couple of years. I
- 10:56Speaker 6: think the most value you're going to get from this guy,
- 10:58Speaker 6: and he's played mostly short stop to date, the most
- 11:01Speaker 6: val you're going to get out of this guy is
- 11:03Speaker 6: it's somebody's not going to strike out. It's a contact
- 11:06Speaker 6: hitter without being you know, a guy who constantly goes
- 11:11Speaker 6: the other way and kind of inside outs the ball
- 11:13Speaker 6: and just gets on basis this isn't Jacob Wilson. And
- 11:15Speaker 6: that's no disrespect to Jacob Wilson, but you know, you
- 11:18Speaker 6: look at a guy like this, this is somebody that
- 11:20Speaker 6: I think can be a super charge kind of Dustin
- 11:23Speaker 6: for drou And I know we're going to the dominiative
- 11:25Speaker 6: guy here, but just someone who swings hard can get
- 11:28Speaker 6: into his pullside and backspin. It makes really smart decisions
- 11:31Speaker 6: on the bases. Like he's just a heady baseball player too,
- 11:34Speaker 6: Like this is a baseball rat all right.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Now, the comparison, he got ten million extra dollars. He's
- 11:41Speaker 3: two years older then Connor Griffin. Compare them because of
- 11:45Speaker 3: Baseball America slighted Kevin McGonagall by putting him second. So
- 11:50Speaker 3: you guys did this, and he said, screw that. I'm
- 11:53Speaker 3: getting ten extra million even though I am two years older.
- 11:57Speaker 3: But compare the two of them and the future. But
- 12:01Speaker 3: also a little bit that they've done in the big
- 12:03Speaker 3: league so far.
- 12:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, obviously we haven't seen the same production
- 12:07Speaker 6: at the plate from Griffin. He's a better defender. The
- 12:11Speaker 6: upside for what Griffin can be at shortstop, I think
- 12:14Speaker 6: is a Gold Glove caliber shortstop. This could be this
- 12:17Speaker 6: is a Bobby Witt junior kind of bucketed player, Like
- 12:20Speaker 6: that's the same sort of class a player that I think.
- 12:23Speaker 6: The upside is. Mcgonald just physically doesn't have those tools.
- 12:26Speaker 6: You know, Griffin isnt off the charts sort of athlete
- 12:31Speaker 6: on par with Bobby Wit Junior, Elie de la Cruz,
- 12:34Speaker 6: those kind of guys. Just the things that he can do.
- 12:36Speaker 6: I mean, I saw him in spring training, his first
- 12:37Speaker 6: spring training in center field. He was probably a seventy
- 12:40Speaker 6: out there. You know, like, this is a guy that
- 12:42Speaker 6: can be a plus plus defender potentially at multiple positions.
- 12:47Speaker 6: The approach is a little bit more raw. The direction
- 12:50Speaker 6: in terms of like the angles and that sort of
- 12:52Speaker 6: thing is a little bit more flat. Mcgonagall's just like
- 12:57Speaker 6: completely optimized. He's also a couple of years older, a
- 13:00Speaker 6: little longer along in his pro career. But I just
- 13:04Speaker 6: think you look at the overall tools, the overall upside,
- 13:08Speaker 6: and that's why you know, ultimately Griffin is the number
- 13:10Speaker 6: one prospect in baseball. And I think when we look at,
- 13:13Speaker 6: you know, the prospects that I've covered, you know, even
- 13:16Speaker 6: prior to my time at BA, probably going back eleven
- 13:18Speaker 6: years now, this is on par with the Kunya and
- 13:21Speaker 6: you know, these best prospects that we've covered, McGonagall is
- 13:25Speaker 6: not far off. I mean this probably it's him and
- 13:27Speaker 6: Vlad Junior are probably the two best minor league hit
- 13:30Speaker 6: tools that I've ever seen, just in terms of being
- 13:32Speaker 6: able to hit a variety of pitch shapes, pitch locations,
- 13:35Speaker 6: being able to adjust even when they're fooled. The hit
- 13:40Speaker 6: ability is there with Griffin. I think he'll continue to
- 13:43Speaker 6: make strides in that regard. He's really heady about how
- 13:46Speaker 6: he hits. I think you even saw that first double
- 13:48Speaker 6: in his debut and his dad's kind of talking about
- 13:50Speaker 6: that being Connor's corner and they're they're they're hitting in
- 13:53Speaker 6: the hit tracks and working on that sort of thing.
- 13:54Speaker 6: I mean, it's not like this guy's just showing up
- 13:56Speaker 6: to the park. You know, I don't want to sort
- 13:58Speaker 6: of underplay his work or you know, uh, the way
- 14:03Speaker 6: that he thinks about the game because it's very advanced.
- 14:07Speaker 6: You know, he's still young. I think there's still some
- 14:09Speaker 6: elements he's got less Upper Miners experience than McGonagall does,
- 14:13Speaker 6: but it but it will all come together. I mean
- 14:14Speaker 6: I saw a series where they played against each other
- 14:17Speaker 6: last September, and you know, there was no question Griffin
- 14:19Speaker 6: was the superior player in that series. Small sample sized stuff,
- 14:23Speaker 6: you know, go back to I guess I'm quoting Dustin
- 14:26Speaker 6: Perdrouya a lot today. But you go to back to Paedroya,
- 14:28Speaker 6: you know, talking about guys struggling and it's like figure
- 14:31Speaker 6: it out and it's laser show. I think we're going
- 14:33Speaker 6: to see that with with Griffin. We're going to see
- 14:35Speaker 6: this guy go off for a month and everything's gonna
- 14:37Speaker 6: be like, Aha, Okay, that's what they were seeing. Just
- 14:40Speaker 6: take some adjustment period, and hey, we should give him credit.
- 14:42Speaker 6: He got that. He got that amount of money out
- 14:44Speaker 6: of the Pirates. That's not easy to do.
- 14:48Speaker 3: No doubt, No doubt Pirates has some short arms there.
- 14:50Speaker 3: You know, they have the t Rex arms when it
- 14:52Speaker 3: comes to paying for stuff. But they paid him. But
- 14:55Speaker 3: also he did. Dustin Perdroya made one hundred and thirty
- 14:58Speaker 3: nine million dollars in his career and now McGonagall, who
- 15:01Speaker 3: my question is going to be about, is going to
- 15:03Speaker 3: make one hundred and fifty guaranteed. My question is where's
- 15:07Speaker 3: the floor? Because when you guys talk about and I
- 15:10Speaker 3: think we had JJ Cooper on he was talking about that,
- 15:14Speaker 3: we were talking about Griffin, we were talking about McGonagall,
- 15:17Speaker 3: and everybody talks about the ceiling. Bobby Witt is what
- 15:20Speaker 3: you said, where do you feel like the floor is?
- 15:23Speaker 3: Where could it go? Where could it go wrong? I
- 15:26Speaker 3: guess that sounds negative, but where could it go wrong
- 15:29Speaker 3: for McGonagall and the Tigers be like ugh, And you
- 15:32Speaker 3: can't use the word injury because injuries don't count, because
- 15:35Speaker 3: that's where everybody can have an injury.
- 15:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you know, if the if the power
- 15:42Speaker 6: maybe doesn't progress or translate the way that we think
- 15:44Speaker 6: it does. I mean you kind of said it earlier,
- 15:46Speaker 6: you know, if he's more of like a mid teens
- 15:48Speaker 6: home run guy with a good, not great hit tool.
- 15:52Speaker 6: I think that's the concern, you know, the fact that
- 15:55Speaker 6: he could be be somewhat limited at shortstop and that
- 15:57Speaker 6: gets exposed eventually. I don't know if that's going to happen,
- 16:01Speaker 6: but it's certainly in the realm of possibility. I mean,
- 16:04Speaker 6: these guys could always underperform a little bit. We don't
- 16:07Speaker 6: typically see prospects at this level have floors that are
- 16:11Speaker 6: kind of below at least a multi time All star though.
- 16:14Speaker 6: We just don't really see that unless there's a massive injury.
- 16:18Speaker 6: So it's tough, you know. And I think the same
- 16:20Speaker 6: thing with Griffin, like maybe there's more strikeout more with
- 16:23Speaker 6: here than we think. The approach backs up a little bit,
- 16:26Speaker 6: but I still think in time that stuff is going
- 16:28Speaker 6: to get adjusted out. So maybe they're not superstars. They're
- 16:32Speaker 6: more really good players, more a fifty five versus a seventy.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Interesting interesting, good take there.
- 16:40Speaker 5: I want to talk you know, we've been talking about
- 16:42Speaker 5: McGonagall and others, but is there a prospect right now
- 16:45Speaker 5: that maybe on your radar that's been talked about that
- 16:47Speaker 5: is the next person to sign. I feel like there's
- 16:50Speaker 5: always a topple effect when this happens and other teams
- 16:53Speaker 5: are like, well, we got it, we got a cat
- 16:55Speaker 5: right now, maybe we'll start talking to him and get
- 16:57Speaker 5: him going. So do you feel like there might be another,
- 16:59Speaker 5: maybe one or two guys, And if so, who do
- 17:01Speaker 5: you have in mind?
- 17:03Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:03Speaker 6: I mean I think JJ weatherholt Is is kind of
- 17:06Speaker 6: an obvious one. He's three on our board up in
- 17:09Speaker 6: the big leagues. You know, homer last I think he
- 17:11Speaker 6: had a multi homer game last night, actually performing at
- 17:14Speaker 6: the plate. He's a really good defender at short, doesn't
- 17:18Speaker 6: have doesn't isn't going to play short with the Cardinals
- 17:20Speaker 6: because they have Mason Wynn. Of course, but a guy
- 17:24Speaker 6: that you know, can be in plus second basement, probably
- 17:27Speaker 6: an above average to plus third baseman. He runs really well,
- 17:31Speaker 6: kind of does all those things really good makeup as well,
- 17:35Speaker 6: kind of like a future clubhouse leadership kind of guy.
- 17:38Speaker 6: I could see him signing an extension. I think the
- 17:41Speaker 6: other one you have to look at here, and he's
- 17:43Speaker 6: probably the air to the number one prospect thrown once
- 17:47Speaker 6: Griffin McGonagall and weather Halt will graduate by probably the
- 17:50Speaker 6: end of this month beginning of next month. Saesus made
- 17:54Speaker 6: and we've already seen some track record with this with
- 17:56Speaker 6: the Jackson Curio extension before he had debuted. It's probably
- 18:00Speaker 6: a year out if he continues to do what he's
- 18:03Speaker 6: doing in Double A as young as he is as
- 18:05Speaker 6: a night you know, eighteen nineteen year old, it's a
- 18:09Speaker 6: strong possibility this guy is up in the big leagues
- 18:12Speaker 6: at nineteen twenty years old and signs for, you know,
- 18:16Speaker 6: a pretty sizable extension. Honestly, any of these guys in
- 18:20Speaker 6: the top twenty five at this point kind of all
- 18:24Speaker 6: fit that that sort of profile of a player that
- 18:29Speaker 6: could sign for an extended deal. It's just a matter of,
- 18:32Speaker 6: you know, whether the agents want to do it, or
- 18:34Speaker 6: the player wants to take that risk of going to
- 18:36Speaker 6: free agency and you know, potentially striking it much bigger.
- 18:40Speaker 1: And I will say this for the Brewers.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Cooper Pratt signed before, who knows when he makes it
- 18:47Speaker 2: to the big leagues. In addition to what you said
- 18:49Speaker 2: with Churio, the Brewers are the perfect organization that if
- 18:52Speaker 2: they're as in love with Jesus made as I would say,
- 18:54Speaker 2: beyond just you and the industry has talked him up
- 18:58Speaker 2: now for a couple of years. They are throwing money
- 19:02Speaker 2: his way and seeing if he will catch anything there.
- 19:05Speaker 2: We do have to jump so job, I'm gonna let
- 19:07Speaker 2: you go because I want to bring him question to
- 19:09Speaker 2: the crew here.
- 19:10Speaker 1: But really appreciate you hopping on.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Thank you and congrats to Kevin McGonagall for making this happen,
- 19:16Speaker 2: for this little combo.
- 19:17Speaker 6: Right, shout out to the Tigers and Kevin McGonagall making
- 19:20Speaker 6: it happen.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Good stuff, right, Thank you, Jeff.
- 19:23Speaker 2: You can catch Jeff of course all over Baseball America's
- 19:26Speaker 2: coverage and on hot sheet. I just want to bring
- 19:28Speaker 2: it to Todd father into Krafts for a moment here too,
- 19:32Speaker 2: before we hit the brake and then we'll keep rolling
- 19:34Speaker 2: here on FT. But thanks to Jeff for popping on
- 19:36Speaker 2: and giving us more info on Kevin McGonagall. Last thing here, guys,
- 19:39Speaker 2: Todd father one late note that stood out to me.
- 19:44Speaker 2: If he gets traded, he gets five million dollars. Any
- 19:49Speaker 2: time he gets traded during the course of this deal,
- 19:51Speaker 2: gets traded twice five million dollars.
- 19:53Speaker 1: What does that do?
- 19:54Speaker 2: That does create somewhat of a barrier to almost lead
- 19:59Speaker 2: to a note trade class. Still looking into this and
- 20:04Speaker 2: just something to keep in mind that there might be
- 20:06Speaker 2: some teams have certain rules and restrictions with contracts and
- 20:08Speaker 2: who they give no trades to and all of that.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But that's the one part that just came in that
- 20:12Speaker 2: really stood out to me too. Is you see assignment bonuses.
- 20:16Speaker 2: They're called for five hundred k or a million bucks, five
- 20:18Speaker 2: million dollars every time you try and trade my ass
- 20:22Speaker 2: says Kevin McGonigal.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I love it because it helps out with the moving period.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Five million dollars.
- 20:31Speaker 1: What movers are you hiring, bro?
- 20:36Speaker 4: He fantastic, Absolutely fantastic.
- 20:40Speaker 5: You know you got some creative agencies out there that
- 20:43Speaker 5: would think of stuff like that. That is beautiful. You
- 20:45Speaker 5: want to trade me five million? How you doing? That's
- 20:48Speaker 5: just in all in the day's work. I guess, so
- 20:50Speaker 5: where do I sign? But yeah, it's interesting. Yeah. Usually
- 20:55Speaker 5: guys are like, listen, if you don't pick up my contract,
- 20:58Speaker 5: I get you know, a million dollars, million dollars, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 5: team option, player option, all that stuff, go ahead and
- 21:04Speaker 5: trade me. I've been traded three or four times. I
- 21:06Speaker 5: would have made twenty million dollars. That's pretty cool exactly.
- 21:09Speaker 4: That's why.
- 21:09Speaker 2: And it's gonna tell a team. Hey, I mean, I
- 21:12Speaker 2: don't know if this is worth the trade. Now do
- 21:13Speaker 2: you see a world? Of course it should work out.
- 21:16Speaker 2: He should be a franchise cornerstone for years to come.
- 21:18Speaker 2: But it does provide some extra security that you even
- 21:24Speaker 2: for a you know, a younger player for younger player move.
- 21:26Speaker 2: It doesn't happen often, but if it did, it just
- 21:28Speaker 2: it adds a little wrinkle there that would make teams
- 21:31Speaker 2: second guess if they actually want to do something.
- 21:34Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, I want to be with the team.
- 21:36Speaker 2: If they're not going to give me a no trade,
- 21:37Speaker 2: I'm going to get a lot of money for being dealt.
- 21:41Speaker 4: I love it.
- 21:42Speaker 3: I love it. I've never heard of this. I mean
- 21:44Speaker 3: I've heard small ones, but not like, hey, you don't
- 21:47Speaker 3: want to give it no trade because everybody's like, yeah,
- 21:50Speaker 3: no trade. I was part of the you know the
- 21:52Speaker 3: thing with Boston. Yeah, they didn't want to add the
- 21:55Speaker 3: no trade for Bregman. Obviously you don't want to get
- 21:58Speaker 3: hung out to dry it. Be it a place that
- 21:59Speaker 3: says gonna win and then they're not five million?
- 22:03Speaker 4: Who trade?
- 22:05Speaker 2: Me?
- 22:07Speaker 4: Guys?
- 22:08Speaker 5: You ever get it from your children all the time? Dad,
- 22:10Speaker 5: same old meal. I get it all the time from

- 23:08Speaker 1: Hey, props to.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Ken Lee Janson who is now all alone for third
- 23:13Speaker 2: place in saves in Major League Baseball. So that updated
- 23:17Speaker 2: number there, This is before it from Baseball World, but
- 23:21Speaker 2: it's now for seventy nine. Lee Smith was at four
- 23:24Speaker 2: seventy eight, tied with him, and now it's just Trevor
- 23:27Speaker 2: Hoffman and Marianna Rivera to catch.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Well, you've got a lot of work to do.
- 23:30Speaker 2: He might get to five hundred, or he should get
- 23:32Speaker 2: to five hundred this year, shutting things down for Detroit
- 23:36Speaker 2: in a two to one comeback win late in the
- 23:38Speaker 2: bottom of the eighth. But props name Todd Father. I'm
- 23:40Speaker 2: sure he faced Ken Lee quite a bit and he's
- 23:42Speaker 2: still kicking it pretty good.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Yeah. I remember him as a catcher.
- 23:47Speaker 5: I thought he his arm was absolutely amazing in rookie ball,
- 23:51Speaker 5: A big target like Cratzy was to throw too. If
- 23:54Speaker 5: I was a pitcher, I would love every second of it.
- 23:56Speaker 5: And he said, you know what, they love it that much.
- 23:58Speaker 5: I want to start throwing too. Became one of the
- 24:00Speaker 5: most prolific closers. There is kudos to him throwing that cutter,
- 24:04Speaker 5: big breaking ball.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:08Speaker 5: Just a fun, loving guy man. And every time you
- 24:10Speaker 5: talk to him, he gives you love. All those guys
- 24:12Speaker 5: from you know, the Netherlands, all those guys Didi Grigoris
- 24:15Speaker 5: is of the world. They are very very nice people.
- 24:19Speaker 5: And you know, glad for him. He's still doing it,
- 24:22Speaker 5: still doing it. I don't know how he is, but
- 24:25Speaker 5: happy for him. And this is really good stuff.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Here we are talking more about injury updates. Some good
- 24:32Speaker 2: ones for the Blue Jays. Jose Brios is making rehab
- 24:36Speaker 2: start and before that, trey Is Savage is pitching in
- 24:39Speaker 2: Triple A today. He's going for about four in sixty
- 24:43Speaker 2: five pitches. If it goes well, he's back in the
- 24:46Speaker 2: big leagues.
- 24:47Speaker 1: That'll help. That's gonna be a huge boost. And he
- 24:51Speaker 1: was the.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Darling rookie for Toronto fans. Then you go to Brios
- 24:57Speaker 2: rehab start single a Dunedin that's happening to tomorrow. Three
- 25:01Speaker 2: pitches or sorry, fifty pitches three innings is the plan
- 25:05Speaker 2: for him more than three pitches. Big news though, And
- 25:08Speaker 2: they think that he is. This is Keegan Matheson who
- 25:10Speaker 2: covers the team for MLB. They think he's one or
- 25:12Speaker 2: two starts behind you, Savage. So you have two nice
- 25:16Speaker 2: pieces about to return. And you know what I just
- 25:19Speaker 2: read the other day too, guys for Brios that was
- 25:22Speaker 2: caught during the World Baseball Classic physicals and I was
- 25:25Speaker 2: one that gave the WBC insurance and all that a
- 25:27Speaker 2: little bit of flak because they were denying everyone. Some
- 25:30Speaker 2: of the guys they were denying ended up making sense,
- 25:31Speaker 2: like with Brios todd father. They found it was like
- 25:34Speaker 2: a bone fracture or a bone chip or something like that.
- 25:36Speaker 2: With Brios, so he had a legit injury. He's just asymptomatic.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He's never felt anything from it.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Isn't that crazy? I mean, having an injury, who's the pitcher?
- 25:47Speaker 5: I think it's the knuckleball guy that had a no
- 25:50Speaker 5: UCL nerve in there? What deck was his nicky Dicky. Yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 5: I mean, and everybody was afraid to take him out.
- 25:56Speaker 5: That's the first person that I thought of. But yeah,
- 26:00Speaker 5: the Blue Jays, you know, they've been kind of you know,
- 26:03Speaker 5: you talk about them with the White Sox. They got
- 26:04Speaker 5: swept by that team, very just unlike Blue Jays, you know,
- 26:10Speaker 5: team so to get a couple guys back, to get
- 26:13Speaker 5: them kickstart and see some new faces back in there
- 26:15Speaker 5: that you know, can help the club, can only kind
- 26:17Speaker 5: of rejuvenate the squad moving forward in this wild little
- 26:22Speaker 5: al least, which is all over the place, with the
- 26:24Speaker 5: Yankees losing five in a row and then you know,
- 26:27Speaker 5: finally coming back and winning a crazy game the other
- 26:29Speaker 5: day and then losing yesterday, so and the Orioles going
- 26:32Speaker 5: back and forth. So in the Red Sox, we don't
- 26:34Speaker 5: know what's going on there. It's just very interesting.
- 26:37Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 26:38Speaker 1: That's what he said. That's what he said. That's what
- 26:42Speaker 1: he said.
- 26:45Speaker 2: All right, So we got a couple of things. Let's
- 26:47Speaker 2: start with Jaron Duran. He said a fan yelled at
- 26:51Speaker 2: him and told him to kill himself.
- 26:54Speaker 1: That's not cool.
- 26:56Speaker 2: And Jaren was very open about some mental health struggles.
- 27:00Speaker 2: He went through that came out last year when he
- 27:03Speaker 2: documented how there was a time when he considered taking
- 27:06Speaker 2: his own life. A fan was trying to take advantage
- 27:08Speaker 2: of that, and Jaren put up the middle finger. I
- 27:13Speaker 2: think it goes without saying that that fan's a loser
- 27:17Speaker 2: and should be banned from games forever, and Alex Chorus
- 27:19Speaker 2: said that after the game too, Red Sox manager Jaren said,
- 27:24Speaker 2: that kind of stuff is still kind of triggering.
- 27:26Speaker 1: It happens.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Honestly, it's my fault for talking about my mental health.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I kind of brought in the haters. See that part
- 27:31Speaker 2: sucks too, todd because then we always want players to
- 27:34Speaker 2: be open and talk about whatever's going on and find
- 27:37Speaker 2: out more about their story than a fan is trying
- 27:40Speaker 2: to take advantage of that. So hopefully they find the
- 27:44Speaker 2: fan and ban him for life or her, whoever it was.
- 27:47Speaker 2: But I think it was a dude, he said. And
- 27:50Speaker 2: then also I'd like to point out that I don't
- 27:53Speaker 2: think Jaren should be punished for doing that.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I don't know if he will be, but I don't
- 27:58Speaker 1: think he should be.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Agreed.
- 28:01Speaker 5: Agreed, He's very it's after he came out with all this,
- 28:05Speaker 5: he's very vulnerable.
- 28:06Speaker 4: To any and everything.
- 28:10Speaker 5: It's a shame that people feel like because they're you know,
- 28:14Speaker 5: their lives are bad, they got to take it out
- 28:16Speaker 5: on other people. This is shameful, it's disrespectful. You know,
- 28:22Speaker 5: the guy's been through a lot, you know, and a
- 28:24Speaker 5: lot that we probably don't even know about it. And
- 28:27Speaker 5: he's right, you know, he's susceptible now to any little
- 28:31Speaker 5: thing because people know about his life. And that's why
- 28:33Speaker 5: most people like himself, like myself, like others, they don't
- 28:37Speaker 5: want too much to be brought out to the public
- 28:40Speaker 5: because guess what, it always backfires on you. And shame
- 28:43Speaker 5: on these fans that think that it's okay for this people,
- 28:46Speaker 5: for them to say stuff like this.
- 28:49Speaker 4: You know, I feel for him.
- 28:51Speaker 5: I feel for him, and it's you know, this probably
- 28:53Speaker 5: won't be the last time this happens.
- 28:54Speaker 4: Hopefully it is.
- 28:56Speaker 5: I can understand his frustrations, and you know, people, just
- 29:02Speaker 5: be better, man, Just be better. Just watch a game,
- 29:04Speaker 5: scream for your team and you know, yell at y'all
- 29:08Speaker 5: that was all that was a strike, you know, stuff
- 29:10Speaker 5: like that, man, and just enjoy the game.
- 29:12Speaker 7: I mean, even going back to high school basketball games,
- 29:15Speaker 7: they find out kids' names of kids girlfriends or kids moms,
- 29:20Speaker 7: and they chant it when they're at the line.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Fans will always be fans in that way. Fans need
- 29:27Speaker 3: to understand when there's a line. Fans need to understand
- 29:31Speaker 3: that that line is different for certain guys. It's ironic.
- 29:34Speaker 3: We're talking about this on Jackie Robinson Day. If you
- 29:36Speaker 3: ever seen the movie forty two, from what I'm told
- 29:40Speaker 3: from the different guys, from the negro leagues who played
- 29:43Speaker 3: during that time, the things that were said in the
- 29:46Speaker 3: movie and we're very disturbing, but from what I was told,
- 29:50Speaker 3: and you hear stories of guys that made that transition,
- 29:53Speaker 3: like the movie was kind of subdued. The movie was
- 29:57Speaker 3: kind of it didn't really hit it. So there's always lines.
- 30:01Speaker 3: And if fans choose to dehumanize players like this, whether
- 30:07Speaker 3: that person was just telling him to kill himself because
- 30:10Speaker 3: he's like, he's pissed at Duran didn't get a hit,
- 30:12Speaker 3: or he just wanted to get on him, it's really
- 30:15Speaker 3: bad timing. If that fan was attacking him because of
- 30:19Speaker 3: his vulnerability, about the fact that he that he dealt
- 30:22Speaker 3: with mental mental struggles and that he thought about suicide,
- 30:27Speaker 3: he had suicidal tendencies then that's just it's unacceptable, and
- 30:33Speaker 3: it is un it's unfathomable that somebody, a human, would
- 30:37Speaker 3: say something like that, and people need to stop dehumanizing
- 30:42Speaker 3: these athletes who they put on a pedestal and then say,
- 30:46Speaker 3: why didn't that guy sign my autograph? Why don't we
- 30:49Speaker 3: ever hear from players? Why don't we ever like all
- 30:52Speaker 3: this stuff like? And it might not be the same
- 30:55Speaker 3: people that are saying it, but the fans around them.
- 30:58Speaker 3: You know what, you step up and say something to
- 31:02Speaker 3: that fan. You could step up and stand up for somebody,
- 31:04Speaker 3: even if Jared Duran's not you're on your team, you
- 31:08Speaker 3: can step up. The reason that kind of stuff happens
- 31:11Speaker 3: is because that guy, because I heard it was a guy,
- 31:14Speaker 3: gets a laugh from two or three people around him.
- 31:17Speaker 3: You know what, if ten people around him say, you
- 31:20Speaker 3: know what, grow up, you can leave our area. We're
- 31:23Speaker 3: trying to enjoy this game. He's not even on our team.
- 31:26Speaker 3: But what you just said to that guy is trash,
- 31:29Speaker 3: and I think that would stop these things. And it's ironic.
- 31:34Speaker 3: We're talking about this on Jackie Robinson Day, where he
- 31:38Speaker 3: endured some of the worst ridicule that you'll ever hear
- 31:41Speaker 3: on a ball field.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 2: One more quote here, Glex Chorus said, like I said
- 31:46Speaker 2: last year, for him, Durant open up. He saved lives, right,
- 31:50Speaker 2: So bigger picture and play. We did have one fan
- 31:53Speaker 2: in the chat, JD said, if you're letting anything a
- 31:56Speaker 2: fan say to you get to you, or anything a
- 31:59Speaker 2: fan say get to you, you're soft. You guys both played.
- 32:04Speaker 2: You guys are both pretty tough and strong. We got
- 32:07Speaker 2: Jersey tough Todd father, and I think Krafts could probably
- 32:11Speaker 2: take out half of the UFC fighters that are out
- 32:13Speaker 2: there right now, So I would consider you guys not soft, Todd.
- 32:19Speaker 1: What would your reply be to that?
- 32:22Speaker 5: Literally they want yeah, And that's that's that's the problem.
- 32:27Speaker 4: You know, back in the day, that's okay that you can.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Call somebody soft. But I don't care how big and
- 32:33Speaker 5: strong you are. I don't care how mentally tough you are.
- 32:37Speaker 5: Words to hurt, they do hurt, and you might keep
- 32:40Speaker 5: it inside. I you know, I still don't forget some
- 32:42Speaker 5: of the stuff that people said. I let it go,
- 32:45Speaker 5: of course, but I'll never I'll never forget it. So
- 32:48Speaker 5: to sell somebody go kill yourself is that you're being soft?
- 32:52Speaker 5: I mean, that's actually scary, truthfully, So you don't know
- 32:56Speaker 5: what's on that person's mind for so that guy to
- 32:58Speaker 5: say that you're in the wrong bute.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Yeah, big miss, big miss by that guy. Like soft, like,
- 33:07Speaker 3: that's that's not soft. I'm not condoning at all what
- 33:11Speaker 3: Jaron Duran did. He should not have responded, and he
- 33:14Speaker 3: even said that in his quote he should not have responded.
- 33:18Speaker 3: But soft, it's not soft, like, that's not like it's
- 33:23Speaker 3: soft for you to say that that's soft.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's still going. Fans are me and
- 33:29Speaker 2: you got to deal with it. You're making a lot
- 33:30Speaker 2: of money, blah blah blah. But let's not mistake this.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Can fans say a lot of things? Can fans say
- 33:36Speaker 2: that a player's terrible, Like you can throw a lot
- 33:39Speaker 2: of things out there, and yes, I do agree players
- 33:41Speaker 2: should be able to take that and that is part
- 33:43Speaker 2: of the job.
- 33:44Speaker 1: But to say that there's no.
- 33:45Speaker 2: Line at all that exists from person to person, that's
- 33:50Speaker 2: too far. Yeah, I mean talking trash cool love it. Hey,
- 33:54Speaker 2: your team's trash or you're not good or whatever, right
- 33:57Speaker 2: or even you know in other sports where there's actually
- 33:59Speaker 2: more physical commack like football, So they say like I'm
- 34:02Speaker 2: going to crush you, blah blah blah.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Cool, But there's still.
- 34:05Speaker 2: A line here where you're telling someone to kill themself
- 34:08Speaker 2: or a death threat. Like those are the lines that
- 34:10Speaker 2: I feel like are pretty reasonable for everyone to understand.
- 34:14Speaker 3: There's a line. There's a line, And I joke about
- 34:16Speaker 3: it all the time. I'm like, it takes a lot
- 34:19Speaker 3: to offend me, Like it takes a lot to say
- 34:22Speaker 3: about me. It would take a lot less for you
- 34:25Speaker 3: for me to hear you say it about somebody else
- 34:27Speaker 3: for me to get pissed off and offended. Like I
- 34:30Speaker 3: just my joke is, I don't have any feelings. Minor
- 34:34Speaker 3: leagues killed my feelings. I spent thirteen years in the
- 34:36Speaker 3: minor leagues, and I'm my feelings are dead inside. But
- 34:39Speaker 3: it just takes a lot to offend certain people. And
- 34:42Speaker 3: if it offends somebody what you're saying, like, that's not
- 34:46Speaker 3: a that's not like, oh great job, look at that
- 34:48Speaker 3: you offended him.
- 34:50Speaker 4: That's tired.
- 34:51Speaker 3: That's so, that's so tired. Don't try to find a
- 34:53Speaker 3: way to offend somebody.
- 34:57Speaker 8: But the fans booing him after you save thirty game
- 35:00Speaker 8: for this team. A kid that's been through all that
- 35:02Speaker 8: he's been through, and what he did the year before
- 35:04Speaker 8: for us to help us win the division, and then
- 35:07Speaker 8: what he did last year and then came out with
- 35:09Speaker 8: an arm injury and still pitched and pitched one of
- 35:12Speaker 8: the biggest innings of the.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Game five.
- 35:17Speaker 8: And for them to be booing him up there, that's
- 35:19Speaker 8: just not our best fans.
- 35:21Speaker 4: That's for sure.
- 35:22Speaker 8: We have the great fans, but let's remind them of that.
- 35:25Speaker 8: Are they okay to be disappointed? But sometimes young men
- 35:29Speaker 8: go through tough stuff. I was disappointed and that those
- 35:33Speaker 8: people wouldn't support him when he's going through that stuff.
- 35:36Speaker 8: Does he probably care? And now is it expected? That's fine,
- 35:40Speaker 8: but let's not be These aren't machines out there.
- 35:42Speaker 4: These are people.
- 35:44Speaker 8: I thought that was in poor taste, but I've done
- 35:48Speaker 8: things in poor taste too.
- 35:49Speaker 2: So hey, that's Pat Murphy, Brewer's manager talking about mcgil.
- 35:54Speaker 2: You know, blown save Brewers lose the game, getting booed.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I love the passion and MRC's usually hilarious todd father,
- 36:02Speaker 2: but I actually do respectfully disagree with Murph if we're
- 36:05Speaker 2: actually having the real combo. I mean, I don't love it,
- 36:08Speaker 2: but the fans have the right to do it. I mean,
- 36:10Speaker 2: you know, we talk about this all the time. Bobashett
- 36:13Speaker 2: played like one minute in New York and they started
- 36:15Speaker 2: doing him. I think it's kind of dumb, but I'm
- 36:18Speaker 2: not going to like ream the fans out for expressing that.
- 36:23Speaker 5: Well, he's a manager. He's got his guys back first
- 36:25Speaker 5: and foremost.
- 36:26Speaker 4: I think.
- 36:29Speaker 5: I think it's great that he stepped up for his guy.
- 36:31Speaker 5: I gotta be honest with you, you know, to get
- 36:33Speaker 5: booed over, you know what happened and what occurred. Yeah,
- 36:37Speaker 5: nobody wants to get booed He's frustrated too. I mean
- 36:41Speaker 5: you think there's some frustration too that, hey man, these
- 36:43Speaker 5: fans home fans should have his back on a mist
- 36:48Speaker 5: you know, save opportunity, all that kind of stuff.
- 36:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right, Scott.
- 36:53Speaker 5: Fans could do what they want, but so can a
- 36:55Speaker 5: manager too, and he's going to have his players back.
- 36:58Speaker 5: And I that's what you love about him. Manager, you're
- 37:00Speaker 5: in somebody that's leading your ball club.
- 37:03Speaker 1: That's a good way to put a crats. I like both.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I like Murph saying that, and I'm okay with fans
- 37:07Speaker 2: being displeased, even if they're jumping the gun or they're
- 37:10Speaker 2: not thinking about what he did last year. I mean
- 37:12Speaker 2: many fan bases across the country don't. Don't consider that.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, yo, your fraser, Yo, I'm from brick Township.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Yo, you suck. Give me a ball that is going
- 37:26Speaker 4: on here.
- 37:27Speaker 3: That's that's that's like the Yankees fans forever, like they
- 37:31Speaker 3: they love they love doing that with like yo Yo,
- 37:34Speaker 3: I'm like yo, I'm like from that township right here,
- 37:37Speaker 3: you brick township, brick Township, Yo, you suck. Give me
- 37:40Speaker 3: a ball. My cousin's birthday.
- 37:43Speaker 2: And we've got a new one to announce for BETMGM.
- 37:46Speaker 2: It's called Baseball bet Fest. You can win your share
- 37:49Speaker 2: of one hundred grand opt into this promotion. There's a
- 37:51Speaker 2: promo section in the bet MGM app.
- 37:53Speaker 1: So here's what you do.
- 37:54Speaker 2: You place your MLB bet of at least ten bucks
- 37:56Speaker 2: with a minimum odds of plus one hundred, so it
- 37:57Speaker 2: has to be a plus money bet. The greater the odds,
- 38:00Speaker 2: the more leaderboard points you'll win if your bet hits.
- 38:02Speaker 2: So the top fifty players will win their share of
- 38:06Speaker 2: a one hundred thousand dollars prize pool twenty five k
- 38:09Speaker 2: for first place. Check out more details and the fine print,
- 38:13Speaker 2: but those bonus bets expire in seven days read additional terms.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Though on the winnings there gambling problem more concern called
- 38:22Speaker 2: one eight hundred gambler.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Todd Father, we have a tweet.
- 38:26Speaker 2: From the team that you think is going to lose tonight,
- 38:30Speaker 2: and the owner sent his analysis in via Twitter. Steve
- 38:36Speaker 2: Cohen said, nobody likes to lose, but I saw some
- 38:39Speaker 2: green shoots tonight. On offense, lind Or two hits, including
- 38:41Speaker 2: a homer, but Sheck got a double hitting it to
- 38:43Speaker 2: left as opposed to recently being right field prone. Bench
- 38:45Speaker 2: got a solid hit. Soto started his running progression today.
- 38:47Speaker 2: Semion hit a shot that might have been a home
- 38:49Speaker 2: run on a warmer night. Finally, Nolan McLean pitched out
- 38:52Speaker 2: standing game, going seven innings, hanging their fans.
- 38:54Speaker 1: We will turn this around talking.
- 38:56Speaker 2: About Yeah, Lindor getting on the board for the first time,
- 38:59Speaker 2: Homer and RBI, Todd Father, but ultimately Yamamoto shut them
- 39:04Speaker 2: down for most of the rest of the game. Luis
- 39:05Speaker 2: Robert Kay in a huge spot against Blake, trying late
- 39:09Speaker 2: in the game when they took out Yamamoto and Song
- 39:12Speaker 2: and Dance and that's it.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Edmund Diaz.
- 39:14Speaker 2: I mean, the only thing that would have made it
- 39:15Speaker 2: perfect is if Edmund Diaz closed the door against them.
- 39:17Speaker 1: For the Dodgers, I'm saying, but Diez.
- 39:20Speaker 2: You know, he had thrown a bullpen, he hadn't pitched
- 39:22Speaker 2: in a lot, whatever, But Bessie has shut the door.
- 39:25Speaker 1: What do you think of the owner chiming in? Does
- 39:27Speaker 1: that make you feel good? Bad? Or don't care?
- 39:32Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 39:32Speaker 5: I mean I guess a little bit of both. But
- 39:35Speaker 5: you're not winning games, so I guess they're trying to
- 39:37Speaker 5: find the good out of everything that has gone wrong. Yeah,
- 39:41Speaker 5: these are good points, of course, I'm not knocking them
- 39:44Speaker 5: for that, but ultimately you're not winning the game. So
- 39:50Speaker 5: that's where the frustrating part comes in. If you're a fan,
- 39:52Speaker 5: you're like, Okay, great, why aren't we winning? Why aren't
- 39:55Speaker 5: we scoring? That's baseball. You're gonna line out, you're gonna
- 39:58Speaker 5: hit one to the wall, You're gonna hit a double
- 40:01Speaker 5: with nobody on and still not get a guy in. Okay,
- 40:04Speaker 5: So you can look at the good, but there's also bad.
- 40:06Speaker 5: When somebody hits a double with and nobody scores him in,
- 40:09Speaker 5: then that's a bad thing. So it's kind of like
- 40:12Speaker 5: splitting hairs a little bit, but ultimately you're not winning games,
- 40:15Speaker 5: so that should be the more frustrating Party's.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Racking some injury updates in the commercial break, trying to
- 40:23Speaker 2: keep Toad awake. So here's your caffeine shot. I mean
- 40:26Speaker 2: it's not a great one. But Parker Meadows surgery on
- 40:29Speaker 2: his broken arm, you know, had the ugly collision. He's
- 40:32Speaker 2: expected to miss multiple months. Aj Hinch said, no official timeline.
- 40:36Speaker 2: He said, I do expect him to be competitive again
- 40:39Speaker 2: this season.
- 40:42Speaker 1: That's a weird way to put it.
- 40:45Speaker 4: Compete.
- 40:48Speaker 5: I mean, I guess it's better way of saying playing.
- 40:53Speaker 4: I don't know, interesting interesting.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Wordsmith he is, yea, So why do you think he
- 41:01Speaker 1: said that, krat.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Because maybe that arm isn't going to be one hundred
- 41:05Speaker 3: percent healthy. But there's other ways that Parker Meadows can
- 41:09Speaker 3: affect this team, Like if you're you know, the severity
- 41:13Speaker 3: of the break. We don't know, we're not in there
- 41:15Speaker 3: in surgery, but the severity of the break might not
- 41:17Speaker 3: enable his you know, him to swing the back the
- 41:21Speaker 3: same and he'll be able to be a defensive replacement.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Like I think it's aj aj does a great job
- 41:28Speaker 3: of not giving us just garbage answers, like it's an
- 41:33Speaker 3: honest answer without saying what it possibly could be. You know,
- 41:37Speaker 3: so I think he I think he did a good
- 41:39Speaker 3: job of that. And Parker Meadows in center field is
- 41:42Speaker 3: no joke. But they're very lucky that they have a
- 41:44Speaker 3: guy like Jabi Baias who can go out to centerfield
- 41:47Speaker 3: and run around like he's twenty three years old. Like
- 41:50Speaker 3: it's a big loss for the Tigers. Not that Parker
- 41:53Speaker 3: Meadows is, you know, a guy that's gonna hit three hundred,
- 41:56Speaker 3: but it's defensively that dude can absolutely go get it
- 42:00Speaker 3: out there.
- 42:13Speaker 1: All right, this is a good one.
- 42:14Speaker 2: We have some sound prepared from yesterday and we're ready
- 42:18Speaker 2: to run it on Mike Trout appearing on the field
- 42:22Speaker 2: and giving a shout out to our very own Todd father.
- 42:28Speaker 9: I always give him crap because he was the second
- 42:29Speaker 9: best player to come out in New Jersey, so that's
- 42:32Speaker 9: always fun. But uh, Scott of report, I love watching
- 42:36Speaker 9: him play. He was obviously when I got drafted, he
- 42:40Speaker 9: was a little bit older, but uh to be able
- 42:42Speaker 9: to you know, come from Jersey, Uh to pool for
- 42:45Speaker 9: each other and obviously over the years we got some Uh,
- 42:47Speaker 9: some good bondage and friendships. So you know seeing him,
- 42:52Speaker 9: you know, compete and you know he's always come up
- 42:54Speaker 9: with them big hits, and uh, it was fun to
- 42:57Speaker 9: watch him, you know, play with him.
- 43:00Speaker 1: That's Mike Trap talking about Todd Fodder.
- 43:04Speaker 5: We always talk about first and second best. We all
- 43:08Speaker 5: know who the first best is and that's definitely not
- 43:11Speaker 5: me for sure.
- 43:12Speaker 4: But I'll tell you what, man, I get I get more.
- 43:17Speaker 5: People will recognize him, probably more, but I get more,
- 43:20Speaker 5: I get more love.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I'll die on that. They actually asked.
- 43:24Speaker 5: If we go to a diner, you know who people
- 43:26Speaker 5: are gonna come up to first, and oh, look at trouble,
- 43:29Speaker 5: Hey fresh, come over here. I would get the respect,
- 43:32Speaker 5: he'll get the notoriety. I'll die in that one because
- 43:37Speaker 5: they love me in my area. Okay, so back off, Mike.
- 43:41Speaker 3: I saw both of these dudes, Todd and Mike.
- 43:45Speaker 4: I got it.
- 43:45Speaker 3: I couldn't bring it on here it's connected to the wall,
- 43:48Speaker 3: but I got a chest protector with both their autographs on.
- 43:51Speaker 3: We played together in twenty ten. Mike was like a baby.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I think he was still learning to drive, and he followed.
- 43:59Speaker 3: He followed, so Todd around like just a little baby.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Little baby. Now I'm following him around. That's terrible.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Yes, bonding, not bondage the words bonding, texting that bonding,
- 44:19Speaker 2: he said, bonding, Be careful, h
