Latest / The Craig Way Show / SEC Preseason Polls and All-Conference Reactions with Evan Vieth
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Perfect segue to the reporter who asked that question, Our
- 0:03Speaker 1: good friend Evan Vieth, who was busy all week at
- 0:06Speaker 1: SEC media Days in Tampa. Are you are you back
- 0:09Speaker 1: here in the lone Star State?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Now?
- 0:11Speaker 3: I am, you know, Jake, Yes, I'm back in Austin.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It's unfortunate that's the one that came up before, because
- 0:16Speaker 2: I was trying to get him to talk about you know,
- 0:18Speaker 2: this is this Texas roster or the offense getting closer
- 0:22Speaker 2: to that Alabama look.
- 0:23Speaker 3: And then you know, I was at that press commersary
- 0:26Speaker 3: brought up Bishop.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I knew he wasn't saying he was gonna be lob
- 0:28Speaker 2: Smith here one, but yeah, he thought I was trying
- 0:30Speaker 2: to insinuate that kind of level of play. But no, yeah,
- 0:33Speaker 2: I mean I'm back home and yeah, no, not quite
- 0:35Speaker 2: a Heisman season for Bishop, but I think he's.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Gonna be pretty good.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Well, look, there's people, there's aggregators all over the media
- 0:41Speaker 1: that takes Sark out of context almost weekly. So we'll
- 0:44Speaker 1: give him one free pass, even if it came at
- 0:46Speaker 1: your expense. They're taking you out of context a little bit.
- 0:49Speaker 1: During that question, Evan Vith from inside Texas joins us,
- 0:53Speaker 1: what was your favorite part of the media Days experience
- 0:56Speaker 1: this time.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Around, so I only got to go to that day.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We just were mainly there for the Texas guys. But
- 1:02Speaker 2: you know, the first thing I ended up doing was
- 1:04Speaker 2: was that early morning LSU press or I think it
- 1:06Speaker 2: started at nine, and my first experience immedia is my
- 1:09Speaker 2: first time ever going was Lane Kiffin talking for eighteen
- 1:13Speaker 2: minutes of his thirty allotted in a filibuster of his
- 1:15Speaker 2: opening statement because he did not want to talk to
- 1:18Speaker 2: the media, and the only ended up answering four questions.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And you know, in that filibuster included a ton of
- 1:23Speaker 2: random statements, and then one of his answers was about
- 1:26Speaker 2: how Hulk Hogan showed him the importance of like mortality.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Another one was just from an Auburn report.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You know, this is exactly what Lanekiffin is and it
- 1:34Speaker 2: was pretty funny just to see it in person like that.
- 1:37Speaker 1: A couple of DC guys like us know a thing
- 1:39Speaker 1: or two about the filibuster, and that's certainly exactly what
- 1:42Speaker 1: Lane did. I saw someone comparing that word count to
- 1:45Speaker 1: Mike Leech's five word opening statement from four years ago
- 1:49Speaker 1: rested peace to coach Leech that is somebody that was
- 1:51Speaker 1: certainly missed.
- 1:52Speaker 4: This weekend in Tampa.
- 1:54Speaker 1: We also got some breaking news during Stars press conference.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Five star cornerback John Meredith third is reclamifying is joining
- 2:01Speaker 1: the long Gorns roster this season.
- 2:03Speaker 4: What do you think this news might mean, Evan for
- 2:05Speaker 4: the Texas defense.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I think it means a little bit more for twenty
- 2:08Speaker 2: twenty seven than it might for twenty twenty six, just
- 2:10Speaker 2: because you know, I think part of what Meredith is
- 2:12Speaker 2: going to be busy doing and to end the summer
- 2:15Speaker 2: is finishing his classes. Because what he's doing is making
- 2:17Speaker 2: sure that he's able to finish with his district to
- 2:19Speaker 2: get his degree in high school, to that enroll a
- 2:21Speaker 2: year early. And it wasn't like this was you know,
- 2:23Speaker 2: some of these players, it's a big time, long term
- 2:26Speaker 2: plan to do this. But Meredith, because of his eligibility
- 2:28Speaker 2: problems it is at North Crowley like he kind of
- 2:31Speaker 2: pivoted that way and it worked out well. The Texas staff,
- 2:34Speaker 2: his district staff have done a great job of making
- 2:36Speaker 2: sure that that's able to happen. But I think it
- 2:38Speaker 2: more means that it's going to be a slow fall
- 2:41Speaker 2: for him, because you know, how can you expect him
- 2:42Speaker 2: to play in those first two to three games, as
- 2:44Speaker 2: he's really just learning the playbook of this roster and
- 2:47Speaker 2: they've got a lot of good cornerbacks on the team,
- 2:49Speaker 2: even had the luxury of kind of moving Kobe Black
- 2:51Speaker 2: to more of a safety role because.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Of the talent there. So I don't think it means
- 2:54Speaker 3: much this year.
- 2:55Speaker 2: He might get a few snaps here there, but I
- 2:57Speaker 2: think it does mean that this was already a guy
- 2:59Speaker 2: we were.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Discussing of twenty twenty seven.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Could he just pulled grace in Littleton and be starting
- 3:03Speaker 2: right away as a true freshman? Now?
- 3:05Speaker 3: I mean that is that has catalyzed way more.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Now he's gonna be on campus for a full year,
- 3:09Speaker 2: actually getting to know Mark orfe At the cornerback coach,
- 3:12Speaker 2: getting to know the Will mus Champs scheme. I mean,
- 3:14Speaker 2: this might be a guy who is starting Week one
- 3:16Speaker 2: next year just because well he's got a little bit
- 3:17Speaker 2: of a leg up on some of the competition that
- 3:19Speaker 2: we didn't expect him to have. He's a really talented
- 3:21Speaker 2: pressman cornerback. You know, Wil must Champ loves those kind
- 3:24Speaker 2: of players, So I keep more of an eye out
- 3:26Speaker 2: for how that looks the next offseason. What he can
- 3:28Speaker 2: do in twenty twenty seven.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I was telling some friends who were asking, is
- 3:33Speaker 1: he going to step in right away? Is he going
- 3:34Speaker 1: to get some snaps? And my answer was I almost
- 3:37Speaker 1: hope not. But is that a silly way to think?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Knowing just how talented this kid is and what the
- 3:43Speaker 1: ceiling is that comes with it.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It would probably mean that injuries have happened, and that
- 3:47Speaker 2: doesn't mean that he couldn't go to it.
- 3:48Speaker 3: You know, he is eighteen.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's not like they're bringing in a player who is
- 3:51Speaker 2: a true you know, about to be senior in high
- 3:53Speaker 2: school and not really ready for that kind of level
- 3:56Speaker 2: of physicality.
- 3:56Speaker 3: And he was the number two cornerback, number five player.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I believe twenty twenty six class or twenty twenty seven
- 4:01Speaker 2: class now reclassified for a reason.
- 4:03Speaker 3: But it probably means that you've gotten pretty deep into
- 4:06Speaker 3: your well.
- 4:06Speaker 2: If you've got your three starting cornerbacks, there's a multitude
- 4:09Speaker 2: guys who can play at the nickel. There's Warren Rovers
- 4:11Speaker 2: and Sammarti Matthews in this class, so it probably means
- 4:13Speaker 2: you've got about three injuries in the cornerback room. If
- 4:15Speaker 2: he's got to be playing, so I'd be wary of
- 4:17Speaker 2: him really needing actual snaps this year.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Evan V from Inside Texas is with us about this
- 4:23Speaker 1: time yesterday, Arch Manning was speaking with the media and
- 4:27Speaker 1: we aired a one on one conversation he had with
- 4:30Speaker 1: Craig way here during the time slot yesterday, and he
- 4:32Speaker 1: told Craig that he had a lot more fun this
- 4:34Speaker 1: year at media Days. He maybe came in dreading it
- 4:38Speaker 1: a little bit and left with a better mindset. Some
- 4:41Speaker 1: of that came from, you know, coaches, parents, teammates, things
- 4:44Speaker 1: like that. Did you pick up on that version of
- 4:46Speaker 1: Arch being a little different this time around?
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah? I did feel.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You know, there are two different levels of confidence that
- 4:52Speaker 2: have shown from Arch Manning in these two offseason. I
- 4:54Speaker 2: think last year was kind of a youthful, cocky confidence
- 4:58Speaker 2: in a way that like, you know, I'm Arch Manning,
- 5:00Speaker 2: I'm starting now, I'm ready to go, which is nothing
- 5:02Speaker 2: wrong with that, but I think now it feels like
- 5:04Speaker 2: more of a man. I just went through a tough
- 5:06Speaker 2: year and I'm past that, and we've really built a
- 5:09Speaker 2: roster that's going to allow me to succeed in twenty
- 5:12Speaker 2: twenty six. And now we interest saying like, yeah, I've
- 5:15Speaker 2: earned my stripes a little bit. I've gone through the
- 5:17Speaker 2: tough parts of football, and now it's just about kind
- 5:19Speaker 2: of having fun and letting a team that's really good
- 5:21Speaker 2: around me play to my strengths. And of course it
- 5:24Speaker 2: helps when you're coming with It's Colin Simmons and Trevor Gooseby.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Gooseby from his class, who's his buying CYB protector Cam
- 5:29Speaker 2: Coleman's getting voted All SEC first Team right there during
- 5:32Speaker 2: the day. So I did feel like in a way
- 5:34Speaker 2: that that artch just seemed a little happier, Like not
- 5:37Speaker 2: to psychoanalyze the guy, but he just seemed to have
- 5:40Speaker 2: a smile on his face a lot, seemed to be
- 5:42Speaker 2: embracing the chaos of what happens when he comes to
- 5:44Speaker 2: the stand. I don't know if people see my tweet
- 5:46Speaker 2: about it, but you know, he's the most popular guy
- 5:48Speaker 2: in college football, and you can see it with the
- 5:50Speaker 2: media scrum just huddling around him about six rows deep
- 5:53Speaker 2: were the bodies of reporters. But he didn't seem phased
- 5:56Speaker 2: by it the way he might have done earlier last
- 5:58Speaker 2: year when he was really struggling, and we even had
- 5:59Speaker 2: him kind of answer our questions saying, you know, hey,
- 6:02Speaker 2: when did you start having fun last year Goes and
- 6:04Speaker 2: we started winning, which that was about six weeks into
- 6:06Speaker 2: the season, Jake. So that's where you can see the
- 6:09Speaker 2: difference and how how his mental is coming.
- 6:10Speaker 3: Into the year.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yeah, we played that SoundBite a little earlier in the
- 6:14Speaker 1: show and last segment we heard Sark's comments about Parker
- 6:18Speaker 1: Livingston say they want to kick his tail in the
- 6:20Speaker 1: Red River game, and he also kind of expanded later
- 6:23Speaker 1: on in that availability about some of the guys that
- 6:26Speaker 1: departed the program in the off season, that they had
- 6:28Speaker 1: to let guys leave to.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Quote create cap space.
- 6:31Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the way Sark kind of
- 6:33Speaker 1: handled this issue when it was brought up, and maybe
- 6:36Speaker 1: the reactions that it's getting on X and in other
- 6:39Speaker 1: media outlets today, Well, I was.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Just gonna say, I think the reactions are so funny
- 6:43Speaker 2: to me because this is not the first time you
- 6:44Speaker 2: said this, right, Like this was these were headlines that were.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Coming around in January and February and into the spring.
- 6:50Speaker 2: When we were talking to him about the transportal class,
- 6:52Speaker 2: he said, like, I had to make some tough decisions
- 6:54Speaker 2: about DeAndre Moore. You know, he ended up kind of
- 6:57Speaker 2: posting some emoji reactions on Twitter and CJ and Trey
- 7:00Speaker 2: Wiser like this isn't the first time he said we
- 7:03Speaker 2: had to get rid of these players, and get rid
- 7:05Speaker 2: of might be a harsh cut. It sounds harsh as well,
- 7:07Speaker 2: but it's frankly, what it is is, we're not.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Going to give you a raise.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I know you think you need a little bit more
- 7:12Speaker 2: money here, but we're not going to adhere to that.
- 7:14Speaker 3: If you want to stay and compete, then that's fine.
- 7:16Speaker 2: But if there's a place of offering you more money
- 7:18Speaker 2: for a better opportunity, go get it. We're not going
- 7:20Speaker 2: to stop you from doing that. And that's just the
- 7:22Speaker 2: modern date reality of college football. Players want this to
- 7:25Speaker 2: be a business where they're making seven figures and overall
- 7:28Speaker 2: getting into that two to six million dollars paychecks here,
- 7:32Speaker 2: they have to realize that some other guys are going
- 7:34Speaker 2: to get paid and if a team doesn't feel like
- 7:35Speaker 2: you are the right investment at your spot, they will
- 7:38Speaker 2: pick over you. So, you know, there's a lot of
- 7:41Speaker 2: outrage about a cash space comment, and every coach is
- 7:44Speaker 2: doing this.
- 7:44Speaker 3: You know, it's a different level with certain things.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Sometimes it's at the G six level where you know
- 7:48Speaker 2: if your quarterback's one of the best in the country.
- 7:51Speaker 2: When he was playing at Texas State, which is a
- 7:53Speaker 2: bad example because Brad Jackson did stay. But a guy
- 7:55Speaker 2: like Jackson could have gone for a higher paycheck somewhere else.
- 7:58Speaker 2: And what's GJ. Kennedy can you going to do? He
- 8:00Speaker 2: doesn't have the salary cap to match that most of
- 8:02Speaker 2: the time. So it happens everywhere. It's just it starts
- 8:05Speaker 2: very vocal about it. He's very vocal about how he
- 8:08Speaker 2: operated the transfer portal. And then the day, Jake, are
- 8:11Speaker 2: you upset that they turn the money that DeAndre Moore
- 8:13Speaker 2: and Parker Livingston were making into cam coleman Or you've
- 8:16Speaker 2: set that the two running backs have been traded out
- 8:18Speaker 2: for two more explosive running backs. You've set that they
- 8:20Speaker 2: added Rachim Biles and Bow Mascow. It felt like good
- 8:23Speaker 2: moves at the time, and it still feels like even
- 8:25Speaker 2: better moves as it's aged longer.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I think providing potential bulletin board material has to
- 8:31Speaker 1: be low on the list in the C suite over
- 8:34Speaker 1: there on campus as to how these decisions are being
- 8:37Speaker 1: made and how they operate. Obviously, a national championship and
- 8:41Speaker 1: an SEC Championship are at the top of the list.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I want to get your thoughts now on the predicted
- 8:46Speaker 1: order of finish that you and your media colleagues use
- 8:51Speaker 1: that term pretty loosely voted on in the SEC media
- 8:55Speaker 1: days in Tampa. Surprised to see Georgia at number one,
- 8:58Speaker 1: in Texas just behind them a number or too.
- 9:01Speaker 3: No surprise at the very top.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think a lot of people that I've talked to
- 9:05Speaker 2: have shared this sentiment that George is probably the best
- 9:07Speaker 2: equipped to go out and win the SEC Championship, but
- 9:10Speaker 2: we're talking.
- 9:10Speaker 3: About national title.
- 9:11Speaker 2: That's where I'd probably give Texas to the edge, and
- 9:13Speaker 2: that's just the result of how these rosters are built,
- 9:15Speaker 2: the schedules that they play. I think Texas has a
- 9:17Speaker 2: harder schedule in Georgia pretty clearly, so the Bulldogs keep
- 9:21Speaker 2: doing it they they've won the past. However, many that
- 9:24Speaker 2: have come around and really only feels like Alabama is
- 9:26Speaker 2: a team that gives them problems. So I would not
- 9:29Speaker 2: be surprised if George is the team that wins the SEC,
- 9:31Speaker 2: but Texas goes farther than the.
- 9:33Speaker 1: CFP Alabama's down at number six. You brought them up
- 9:36Speaker 1: first time since the pre Sabin era they've picked to
- 9:39Speaker 1: finish that low in the conference. Is that position maybe
- 9:42Speaker 1: justified for you?
- 9:44Speaker 2: I felt that four through seven were very interchangeable, and
- 9:47Speaker 2: me personally, I would have had to Ole Miss in
- 9:49Speaker 2: that tier as well. What I think gave will Miss
- 9:51Speaker 2: the edge and I will finally about this on Twitter,
- 9:53Speaker 2: is it feels like the top three teams, you can
- 9:55Speaker 2: pick a superlative that that really fits why they are
- 9:58Speaker 2: in that top spot. Georgia, It's it's not hard to
- 10:00Speaker 2: explain why Kirby Smart's teams are going to be number
- 10:02Speaker 2: one Texas the investment, the talent, the star players, and
- 10:06Speaker 2: ole Miss. At the end of the day, they have
- 10:07Speaker 2: a defensive coach and also the best quarterback and running
- 10:09Speaker 2: back in the SEC and maybe.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Even in college football.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Off of a long CFP rub, they were going to
- 10:15Speaker 2: be top three, but that fourth through seventier it could
- 10:18Speaker 2: have gone anyway because it's all teams that play tough schedules,
- 10:20Speaker 2: all teams that have good but questions about them, especially
- 10:24Speaker 2: like Jake.
- 10:24Speaker 3: The quarterback spot really lights up here for me.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I think all these coaches are good at a baseline level,
- 10:30Speaker 2: and probably you know Kiffin and Elco Debora especially not
- 10:33Speaker 2: to throw venables under the bus here, but really really
- 10:36Speaker 2: high level maximizers.
- 10:37Speaker 3: But every single quarterback position here has some question marks.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Right Alabama red shirt freshman starting quarterback and Kielan Russell,
- 10:44Speaker 2: how good can he be? Sam Levitt was not representing
- 10:46Speaker 2: LSU at media days, and he's going to be the starter,
- 10:48Speaker 2: but injury concerns. He hasn't really pieced together a full
- 10:51Speaker 2: season of really good, amazing, accurate college football as a quarterback.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Arizona State that that year they played Texas was the closest,
- 10:59Speaker 2: and then A M and Oklahoma. They've had these starters
- 11:02Speaker 2: now for two two and a half years, if you're
- 11:03Speaker 2: talking about A and M, but haven't truly been These
- 11:06Speaker 2: force multiplier bring the team ahead of where the rest
- 11:09Speaker 2: of the roster is kind of players. So I would
- 11:11Speaker 2: bet that whoever has the best quarterback of this tier
- 11:13Speaker 2: probably breaks into that three four spot.
- 11:15Speaker 1: That's a tier you're discussing with Texas, A and M
- 11:18Speaker 1: for LSU five, Alabama six, and Oklahoma seven for those
- 11:22Speaker 1: of us on thirteen hundred the zone. Of course, you
- 11:24Speaker 1: can also join us on x and Facebook and YouTube
- 11:28Speaker 1: every day for the show where we've got these rankings
- 11:30Speaker 1: projected up for you. I'm with you on a tier
- 11:32Speaker 1: break though between seven and eight Oklahoma down to Tennessee.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I'm not as high on the balls this season in general.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Is there any team eight through sixteen that you feel
- 11:42Speaker 1: as though is ranked too low and might have the
- 11:44Speaker 1: best chance to catapult up into that tier we just discussed.
- 11:49Speaker 2: You know, it's not too far below, but I would
- 11:50Speaker 2: have put Florida above Tennessee, and that might be a
- 11:53Speaker 2: hot take given that Tennessee's got a little bit more establishment,
- 11:56Speaker 2: But you know.
- 11:57Speaker 3: These quarterbacks are going to be good no matter who.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Gets taken as Josh Aipel's guy like that, he's not
- 12:01Speaker 2: gonna have a bad offense, but just not really bought
- 12:04Speaker 2: into the team that they built this year. I don't
- 12:06Speaker 2: think that they're going to completely maximize what this player
- 12:09Speaker 2: in year one of starting is going to be, and
- 12:10Speaker 2: they play some really tough games. I have them there,
- 12:13Speaker 2: and it's hard once you get to that ten, eleven,
- 12:16Speaker 2: twelve through sixteen, because it does feel like they're in
- 12:20Speaker 2: the right spots right Like I wouldn't say yes Vanderbilt
- 12:23Speaker 2: with whoever they pick us for sure above Auburn, or
- 12:25Speaker 2: that Auburn should be breaking ahead of Missouri. So I'm
- 12:27Speaker 2: not sure there's one where I'm going, Yes, they will
- 12:29Speaker 2: definitely be there. I will say that of all those teams,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I think South Carolina has the clearest chance of everything
- 12:35Speaker 2: goes right, they will be in that top six where
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't know if if everything goes right.
- 12:39Speaker 3: With Kentucky or Vanderbilt, they will be in that spot.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Lenora's Sellers is back to the kind of theoretical Lenora
- 12:44Speaker 2: Sellers we've heard about. If the wide receivers are really
- 12:47Speaker 2: really good, kind of they ended the year well. But
- 12:49Speaker 2: if Harbor and Sellers can really take up a tier,
- 12:53Speaker 2: I think they could be a very good team.
- 12:54Speaker 3: And that see, it's hot for Shane Beamer.
- 12:56Speaker 2: So if he plays well, you know it's too It's
- 12:59Speaker 2: to save his job more than anything.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's kind of gone up and down and
- 13:03Speaker 1: up and down for Beamer at South Carolina. We're talking
- 13:06Speaker 1: SEC media Days, polls, preseason all SEC rankings and teams
- 13:12Speaker 1: with Evan Veith from Inside Texas. We're looking now at
- 13:15Speaker 1: the All SEC first team a few Longhorns represented Cam
- 13:21Speaker 1: Coleman at the wide receiver spot, Trevor Goosby on the
- 13:23Speaker 1: O line, Colin Simmons on the defensive line, and Rashim
- 13:27Speaker 1: Biles at one of those linebacker spots. We ran through
- 13:30Speaker 1: the whole teams and told you about all the Longhorns
- 13:33Speaker 1: who were represented earlier on in the program. What was
- 13:36Speaker 1: your kind of reaction to this? Did you break from
- 13:38Speaker 1: the consensus on anything that we can see here?
- 13:42Speaker 2: You know, one of my big quips with how these
- 13:45Speaker 2: things work, and I tried my best to avoid it
- 13:48Speaker 2: as I could, but they don't really ask me to
- 13:50Speaker 2: rank it in a football sense. Like the tiering for
- 13:53Speaker 2: the D line is just rank your twelve best defensive lineman,
- 13:56Speaker 2: not who's your first team, who's your second team? Is
- 13:58Speaker 2: your third team, So you don't really get to calculate
- 14:01Speaker 2: out a team. You just get to name players. So
- 14:04Speaker 2: you see, like this is three edge rushers. This D
- 14:07Speaker 2: line would not actually look all that great because Will
- 14:09Speaker 2: Eccles was kind of only tackled anchor. You're not seeing
- 14:11Speaker 2: any guards on the O line tier, right, It's all
- 14:14Speaker 2: these tackles in the center.
- 14:15Speaker 3: So that's where I tried my best you know, I.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Had Patrick Coutis, who's the ole miss guard higher there,
- 14:20Speaker 2: and on my d line, I had David Stone on
- 14:22Speaker 2: my first team, I believe, you know, at linebacker, I
- 14:24Speaker 2: thought Kip Lewis should have been ahead of Whip Meeks.
- 14:27Speaker 2: That's a guy I noticed myself as I was looking back,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I'm like, wow, I am way higher on Oklahoma than
- 14:32Speaker 2: a lot of people in Oklahoma.
- 14:34Speaker 3: They're in my three to four tier team. I think
- 14:36Speaker 3: they are the best of those teams.
- 14:37Speaker 2: We were talking about that four through seven tier, Like,
- 14:40Speaker 2: I think that you could have had Isaiah Satanna there
- 14:42Speaker 2: over Ryan Coleman Williams, who, like, let's be honest about
- 14:45Speaker 2: what Ryan Coleman Williams was last year.
- 14:47Speaker 3: He was getting benched on his team like that.
- 14:49Speaker 2: They had low Zerra Brooks playing more at the end
- 14:51Speaker 2: of the season and getting more targets.
- 14:53Speaker 3: And I do think Coleman Williams will be good this year.
- 14:55Speaker 3: But that's the thing to keep an eye out.
- 14:57Speaker 2: So some things about guard and d tackle, those individuals
- 15:00Speaker 2: spots dB. I believe I had Kelly Jones as a
- 15:03Speaker 2: cornerback over Ellis Robinson, the six or four player at
- 15:06Speaker 2: Misissippi State. Absolutely lotched down players outside of Cam Coleman,
- 15:09Speaker 2: and then I had Jade and boh at running back
- 15:11Speaker 2: over Ama Hardy, just because I felt like that top
- 15:14Speaker 2: three running back spot in SEC was all three really
- 15:17Speaker 2: good players. It's just about like who's in the better situation,
- 15:20Speaker 2: who's gonna end up getting the yards this year?
- 15:22Speaker 3: And with Hardy's situation, I just thought Bob was a
- 15:25Speaker 3: safer pick.
- 15:26Speaker 2: So a lot of it was pretty I think a
- 15:28Speaker 2: lot of chalk and consensus at the top. You know,
- 15:30Speaker 2: Chambliss is going to be their Lacy, Colin Simmons, Dylan Stuart.
- 15:33Speaker 2: But I tried my best to keep it within the
- 15:35Speaker 2: lines of what was allowed. Jake, I will ask you
- 15:38Speaker 2: one question because I want to know how many people
- 15:39Speaker 2: noticed this. Did you see who the third team kickoff
- 15:42Speaker 2: specialist was?
- 15:44Speaker 1: I'm looking at it now, I know that Ryan Nibblett
- 15:47Speaker 1: was what a first team return specialist and then a
- 15:52Speaker 1: second team all purpose guy? Third team kickoff specialist?
- 15:57Speaker 4: Wait, why don't you? Why don't you what's going on
- 15:59Speaker 4: behind this?
- 16:00Speaker 3: So the kickoff specialist spot not to take over the show?
- 16:03Speaker 2: Here is no so most people the guys who kick
- 16:05Speaker 2: off the ball, like you know, I don't know Will
- 16:08Speaker 2: Stone last.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Year for Texas.
- 16:09Speaker 2: The one who got third team is Terry Boosey in return.
- 16:13Speaker 2: He's a returner. He has never kicked a football in
- 16:16Speaker 2: his college career. They messed it up and people just
- 16:18Speaker 2: decided to vote for him. So Terry Boosey is a
- 16:21Speaker 2: third teamer at a position he doesn't play, and Ryan
- 16:23Speaker 2: Nibblett got second team AP votes at a position he
- 16:26Speaker 2: also doesn't really play like nibble will play on offense
- 16:29Speaker 2: for Texas. He is not the same type of player
- 16:31Speaker 2: that Mario Kraber is who got the first team.
- 16:34Speaker 3: It just goes to show the SEC is such a
- 16:35Speaker 3: messed up voting system for.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Well, look, at the risk of reforming everything, why don't
- 16:42Speaker 1: we just think about it this way? There were eleven
- 16:45Speaker 1: total Longhorns who saw their name on an All SEC
- 16:48Speaker 1: team of some kind. There's limitations to how much you
- 16:51Speaker 1: can take from this, clearly based on the flaws and
- 16:53Speaker 1: the voting process that you're revealing for us here.
- 16:56Speaker 4: We've become a courtroom drama here this afternoon.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But by Filibustrie, Yeah yeah, but I'm just wondering of
- 17:02Speaker 1: the long Worns whose names.
- 17:03Speaker 4: We didn't see.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Are there a couple who you feel as though should
- 17:08Speaker 1: feel shorted here or feel slighted here? And are there
- 17:11Speaker 1: a couple who you feel as though could play their
- 17:13Speaker 1: way into these conversations this season in particular, because I know,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you know, you never really know until you see it.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, your timming is impeccable because I released this article
- 17:22Speaker 2: right before I came out of the show as my
- 17:24Speaker 2: Internet was having some difficulties where I could come on.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But I feel like there's only one true snub, a
- 17:29Speaker 2: guy who should have been there who didn't get taken.
- 17:31Speaker 3: It's because of the problems I've already addressed.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Is that here Kanu, Like, that's one of the sixth
- 17:35Speaker 2: best interior defensive linemen in the SEC coming into this year.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I would have had him at third or fourth, right,
- 17:40Speaker 2: I think Eckles and then Elijah Griffin and Will Stone
- 17:43Speaker 2: who or David Stone? Excuse me, I said Will Stone
- 17:45Speaker 2: earlier who made it on second team, are there, But
- 17:48Speaker 2: when we're talking about him or DJ Hicks, he's more
- 17:51Speaker 2: proven than Hicks is and just a lot of edge
- 17:53Speaker 2: rushers got in on the D line instead of Kanye,
- 17:55Speaker 2: so I thought he should have gotten there. And then
- 17:57Speaker 2: there are some players who I think, as the season progresses,
- 18:00Speaker 2: will maybe get some buzz there. I look at all
- 18:02Speaker 2: three cornerbacks for Texas, I think one of Mascow, Phillips, Littleton.
- 18:07Speaker 2: You could see them, especially with the way they're gonna
- 18:09Speaker 2: play some more pressman coverage like a five interception season.
- 18:12Speaker 2: That's the kind of thing that gets you on an
- 18:13Speaker 2: All SEC team, and I think any of those three
- 18:16Speaker 2: can do that. And especially if Lyttleton is playing in
- 18:18Speaker 2: base formations as an outside cornerback and getting some of
- 18:21Speaker 2: those tackle and PVU breakups in the slot, he could
- 18:24Speaker 2: be there. And then I'll throw out Melvin Sionni Melvinson.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I we haven't actually got one hundred percent comment information
- 18:29Speaker 2: on which one it is, but he's a guy who
- 18:32Speaker 2: is I think fourth in the in the transfer portal
- 18:34Speaker 2: offensive line on on three's rankings. He's going to start
- 18:37Speaker 2: at right tackle for Texas, and if he is really good,
- 18:40Speaker 2: then it's gonna show up a lot for Texas. There's
- 18:42Speaker 2: gonna be a lot of people that go, Wow, this
- 18:44Speaker 2: line is so much more improved. What's the reason you
- 18:46Speaker 2: look at the right tackle spot? So I can see
- 18:48Speaker 2: that being someone who as the year progresses on, he
- 18:50Speaker 2: ends up getting onto one of these teams because Texas's
- 18:53Speaker 2: O line looks better and he's a good reason for that.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that's somebody Sark has mentioned quite a bit. I
- 18:58Speaker 1: also love the focus that you had both in your
- 19:01Speaker 1: piece over at Inside Texas and on the show here
- 19:03Speaker 1: today about the long corn defensive back room. I think
- 19:06Speaker 1: it's fascinating the track coming into the year, and if
- 19:08Speaker 1: we had more time, we'd be able to dive into it,
- 19:11Speaker 1: but we do need to break. Evan, thanks so much
- 19:13Speaker 1: for stopping by. You're not only taking over this show,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you're taking over Bucky and BK coming up after this too,
- 19:18Speaker 1: so I know we're keeping you busy today.
- 19:20Speaker 4: Thanks so much, as.
- 19:21Speaker 3: Always, Thank you guys, appreciate having me.
- 19:23Speaker 1: All Right, that's Evan Vief from Inside Texas. You can
- 19:26Speaker 1: follow him on x at Evan Vief.
- 19:29Speaker 3: More to come.
- 19:29Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from Colin Simmons some sound bites from
- 19:32Speaker 1: his Media day presser coming up right after this.
