- 0:01Speaker 1: FT Live postgame show after game three of the NLCS.
- 0:06Speaker 1: The Brewers smack the Dodgers 6-2. AJ, the Brewers are good.
- 0:10Speaker 2: This team can ball.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Yeah, no kidding. I watched them beat the Padres, and yeah,
- 0:15Speaker 3: they're more than good. They're really good. They had 103 wins, Scott.
- 0:18Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw that. They had the
- 0:19Speaker 3: best record in baseball. They have the best bullpen in baseball.
- 0:23Speaker 3: They have the best on-base percentage in baseball. Usually, if
- 0:26Speaker 3: you get on base– and you pitch really good out
- 0:29Speaker 3: of your bullpen. Oh, yeah, by the way, they had
- 0:30Speaker 3: the Cy Young winner who didn't even pitch great for
- 0:32Speaker 3: them in game one. So if you have the combination
- 0:35Speaker 3: of really good on-base guys, really good bullpen, and really
- 0:37Speaker 3: good starters, Logan Henderson and Miz, and we're going to
- 0:40Speaker 3: talk about Robert Gasser tonight.
- 0:42Speaker 4: You're usually pretty good, and the Brewers are proving that
- 0:44Speaker 4: right now.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they're up 3-0 in this series, Kratz. Remember, last
- 0:50Speaker 1: year NLCS swept, and then your NLCS, 2018. You guys
- 0:55Speaker 1: took them as deep as you could, but it didn't happen.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And this is the chance to bite back. They're one
- 1:00Speaker 1: win away from a World Series appearance, their first since 1982.
- 1:03Speaker 1: They've never won a World Series.
- 1:06Speaker 2: The city is starving for it. And this team does
- 1:10Speaker 2: not look like they could care less who is on
- 1:14Speaker 2: the other side right now. I mean, the Brewers are
- 1:18Speaker 2: pushing hard. They're not even pushing the right buttons. They're
- 1:21Speaker 2: not playing perfect baseball. Like, you don't have to play
- 1:24Speaker 2: perfect when you do the things that they're doing. And, oh, yeah,
- 1:28Speaker 2: by the way, the Brewers don't hit enough home runs.
- 1:31Speaker 2: If you didn't follow my tweet, that was sarcastic. Yep.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They don't hit enough home runs in the regular season.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Bottom three in baseball. In the postseason, they're out slugging
- 1:43Speaker 1: the Dodgers quite nicely right now.
- 1:45Speaker 5: So let's hit it. Let's do the full count.
- 1:50Speaker 2: It's a full count.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Yeah, full count is fueled by marathon. I think we
- 1:58Speaker 1: have to start with Jake Bowers, AJ. I mean, the
- 2:02Speaker 1: at-bats that he's putting together, and this one even more
- 2:05Speaker 1: successful than the 12-pitch AB. This was just an 11-pitch
- 2:09Speaker 1: AB that ends up in a dinger. Garrett Mitchell follows
- 2:11Speaker 1: with the homer, and that really felt like the series
- 2:14Speaker 1: right there. I mean, people don't come back from 3-0,
- 2:17Speaker 1: so you swing the game around. You're up three games
- 2:20Speaker 1: to nothing. And Jake Bowers is an incredible story, too.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Led the team in homers.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Almost quit.
- 2:28Speaker 1: They mentioned it again during the broadcast. Wife was going
- 2:31Speaker 1: to go back to teaching. He was going to be
- 2:32Speaker 1: a stay-at-home dad. Wife gets pregnant.
- 2:33Speaker 5: He's like, oh, we got to get benefits. I'm going
- 2:35Speaker 5: to do some minor league ball. Made some changes. Got stronger.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Hit a huge homer. And there's the wee from Sarah Lang.
- 2:42Speaker 5: It's gone the other way.
- 2:46Speaker 2: As somebody that has... how do I say this?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Lance, the, the, the analytics guy.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 3: And him and I went back and forth a couple
- 2:56Speaker 3: of times on Jake Bowers a few years ago. Let
- 3:00Speaker 3: me say this full accountability here. Jake Bowers turned himself
- 3:04Speaker 3: into a hell of a player. He wasn't very good
- 3:06Speaker 3: for a while, but maybe when the Yankees, cause wasn't
- 3:09Speaker 3: he a Yankee guy? And that's what Lance was like, Oh,
- 3:11Speaker 3: this Jake Bowers guy, maybe you just have to get
- 3:13Speaker 3: away from the Yankees for like four or five years.
- 3:15Speaker 4: And then you can be, turned into Jake Bowers. I
- 3:18Speaker 4: don't know, but whatever he did, it worked.
- 3:19Speaker 3: So Jake Bowers, I tip my cap to you, brother,
- 3:22Speaker 3: because you have changed your career. 26 homers this year
- 3:27Speaker 3: led the team, and you've had two of the best
- 3:28Speaker 3: at-bats I've ever seen. I even tweeted about your at-bat
- 3:31Speaker 3: tonight to the people that thought I was in the booth.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I was not, so I apologize that you guys thought
- 3:35Speaker 3: I was. But I tip my cap to Jake Bowers, man.
- 3:41Speaker 3: The at-bat off Yamamoto knocked him out of the game.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Then the at-bat off Blake Snell– where he saw every
- 3:47Speaker 3: pitch he could throw.
- 3:48Speaker 2: He was throwing him change-ups. He was throwing him sliders.
- 3:50Speaker 2: He threw him some curveballs. Fouled him off, fouled him off.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He made a mistake. He tried to throw the heater away.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Jake Bowers beat him to the spot after the Dodgers
- 3:57Speaker 3: had finally gotten a hit with runners in scoring position. So,
- 4:01Speaker 3: Jake Bowers, man, congratulations. What a game for you.
- 4:04Speaker 4: And what a postseason and a season for you.
- 4:07Speaker 2: There's so many things that you can look at from
- 4:10Speaker 2: that at-bat, from Churrio jumping right on top. Like, this team–
- 4:16Speaker 2: The way that they are not– they're not afraid to
- 4:20Speaker 2: win the game their way. And their way is not
- 4:23Speaker 2: slapping the ball, stealing a million bases, hitting home runs.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It's all of it. It's everything. William Contreras' swing where
- 4:32Speaker 2: he poked that, I think it was a two-strike slider,
- 4:36Speaker 2: back up the middle just for– you know, lofted it
- 4:38Speaker 2: up the middle. How many swings– have you seen other
- 4:42Speaker 2: teams take like that? And I don't think the Dodgers
- 4:44Speaker 2: are trying to swing for the downs or anything like that.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I'm saying, like, they're trying to do whatever it takes
- 4:51Speaker 2: in the moment better than any team right now in
- 4:55Speaker 2: the postseason. And to say they were going to be
- 4:58Speaker 2: up 3-0, I would have never guessed it because of
- 5:02Speaker 2: this starting pitching. And tonight, Blake Snell, if you told
- 5:05Speaker 2: me he had 69 pitches in six innings with nine punch-outs,
- 5:10Speaker 2: I would have been like, tough night for the Brewers.
- 5:13Speaker 2: But they just kept hanging around, and the walk before
- 5:18Speaker 2: Bowers was like the first, like, a little bit. Andrew
- 5:23Speaker 2: Vaughn walks, and then he creates havoc with Yelly coming in.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I think he tried to steal three times. I don't
- 5:30Speaker 2: care what people say. In a 1-0 game, or I'm sorry,
- 5:34Speaker 2: at that point it was 2-1, you have somebody running
- 5:38Speaker 2: the bases and and you've been out there the whole game,
- 5:41Speaker 2: it changes a little bit. Your pitches aren't quite as sharp,
- 5:44Speaker 2: and Bauer's caught them.
- 5:48Speaker 3: By the way, Scott, also, I mean, I know, listen,
- 5:52Speaker 3: Bauer's going to get a lot of credit, but the
- 5:54Speaker 3: at-bat by Andrew Vaughn to take the walk was huge.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I mean, after they had just given up the two-spot deal,
- 6:00Speaker 3: Abner Reba, that's the first chink in his armor we've
- 6:02Speaker 3: seen in a long time, right? Like, I mean, that's
- 6:04Speaker 3: the first anything. He walked the base. That's also the
- 6:07Speaker 3: first time they've shown Murph, and Murph was like, And
- 6:09Speaker 3: he said a word that we can't say. He said
- 6:11Speaker 3: a word that starts with F. He was like, ugh,
- 6:15Speaker 3: as he turned around, which is fine because he's like, man,
- 6:18Speaker 3: we actually– I thought I was doing this right. And
- 6:21Speaker 3: we walked the base loaded. Gives up the double to
- 6:24Speaker 3: Will Smith, which missed the home run by like this much, right?
- 6:27Speaker 3: And then I was surprised Shohei didn't score on that
- 6:29Speaker 3: ball because that ball off the bat was– I know
- 6:31Speaker 3: it took a big hop right to the center fielder,
- 6:32Speaker 3: but Shohei like.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Slid into third. He barely made it. That was weird
- 6:36Speaker 2: to me. He's fine. What's that? He's fine. He's always fine.
- 6:39Speaker 2: He feels fine.
- 6:40Speaker 4: He got a hit, though, in the last, in what,
- 6:42Speaker 4: the eighth inning, whatever it was.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So he got a hit.
- 6:45Speaker 4: But so there's things that are going to go unnoticed, right?
- 6:48Speaker 2: D.L.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Hall coming in and not getting, striking out Kike and
- 6:51Speaker 4: then striking.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Out, I forget, after Kike, I forgot. I lost track.
- 6:58Speaker 3: And then let's not forget about Robert Gasser, okay?
- 7:01Speaker 2: Edmund, Tommy Edmund, who's really good right-handed.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Fastball paint after those breakers.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yes. And by the way, Tommy Edmund's a stud right-handed.
- 7:07Speaker 3: But Robert Gasser, let's not forget about Robert Gasser because
- 7:10Speaker 3: he gave him five innings, okay? And I remember when
- 7:12Speaker 3: we did the Padres series and we met with Pat Murphy,
- 7:16Speaker 3: we're like, what are you going to get? He pitched
- 7:17Speaker 3: game four. We're like, what are you going to get
- 7:19Speaker 3: out of Gasser? And he's like, honestly, I don't know.
- 7:21Speaker 3: He's like, I just hope the moment he can calm down.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Sometimes he gets a little sped up and he can
- 7:25Speaker 3: calm down. Pitched really well in that game. And then
- 7:28Speaker 3: tonight he gave him five innings. I mean, he pitched
- 7:31Speaker 3: unbelievably well tonight.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Soft contact.
- 7:33Speaker 3: He's kind of funky. He throws sliders. You know, he
- 7:35Speaker 3: was part of the Josh Hader trade back in the day.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I mean, I know everyone's going to talk Jake Bowers
- 7:41Speaker 3: and everyone else, but Robert Gasser deserves some kudos too, man.
- 7:44Speaker 2: This guy really pitched well.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah, this was one of the questions, Kratz, with the
- 7:48Speaker 1: Brewers all season long, right? We're a daily show. We
- 7:52Speaker 1: talk about what things could look like at this very moment.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And it was a legitimate question to look at the
- 7:57Speaker 1: Brewers and say, are they going to be able to
- 7:59Speaker 1: stack up against a team like.
- 8:01Speaker 5: The Dodgers with their starting pitching? And a guy like
- 8:04Speaker 5: Gasser makes all the difference.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Gasser was part of that trade that also landed them
- 8:09Speaker 1: Estuary Ruiz, which eventually landed them William Contreras. And that
- 8:14Speaker 1: was a trade that pissed a lot of people off
- 8:16Speaker 1: in Milwaukee. That was the Josh Hader deal. David Stern
- 8:19Speaker 1: still kind of feels that.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Guess what?
- 8:22Speaker 2: It helped.
- 8:22Speaker 5: It helped years later.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I get that. That is a good full circle moment
- 8:28Speaker 2: for sure. But when you have a guy like Gasser
- 8:31Speaker 2: on the mound, I was looking at his last few
- 8:34Speaker 2: regular season starts. He went three walks, two walks, two walks,
- 8:40Speaker 2: two walks, four walks, two walks. He kept it to
- 8:43Speaker 2: one walk. I think his stuff was just the same
- 8:48Speaker 2: as it was any other night. I think he was
- 8:51Speaker 2: able to work the outer half of the plate to
- 8:55Speaker 2: a team that is not driving the ball very much.
- 8:58Speaker 2: And so what does a team that doesn't drive the
- 9:00Speaker 2: ball very much need to do? They need to try
- 9:02Speaker 2: to take their hits the other way. The Dodgers didn't.
- 9:05Speaker 2: And it looked like they were trying to do a
- 9:07Speaker 2: little bit too much. And Gasser, he never really gave in.
- 9:11Speaker 2: He never gave in. He kept attacking. what was happening
- 9:15Speaker 2: in the moment. Everything I'm going to say about the
- 9:18Speaker 2: Brewers is all about in the moment. And for him
- 9:22Speaker 2: to step up here, look, I'll be the first one
- 9:24Speaker 2: to say, my bad. I thought this should have been
- 9:29Speaker 2: Logan Henderson's start. I thought Tarek Skubal should have pitched
- 9:32Speaker 2: for the Brewers yesterday. Guess who's down 3-0 right now?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Tarek Skubal and the Dodgers.
- 9:37Speaker 5: That's right. Hey, manager decisions. Was Kevin Cash right back
- 9:42Speaker 5: in the day? I'm joking.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Blake Snell helped this team win a World Series last year.
- 9:46Speaker 1: He was freaking nails in the NLCS against the Brewers.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Eight shutout innings, one hit, ten punchouts. It was a
- 9:55Speaker 1: brilliant performance. I remember watching and we were on after it. But, A.J.,
- 9:59Speaker 1: this time around, do you take him out at some point?
- 10:03Speaker 5: No, he had.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Retired how many in a row? The only thing I'll
- 10:06Speaker 3: say is he had retired, I forget how many in
- 10:08Speaker 3: a row.
- 10:08Speaker 5: After the Bowers AB and the Homer, though? Then you
- 10:11Speaker 5: still leave him in for Mitchell.
- 10:12Speaker 3: But then you have another lefty up, and you have
- 10:14Speaker 3: a lefty. And Mitchell, who he dominated, and you only
- 10:17Speaker 3: had Evan Phillips up in the bullpen for the Dodgers. So, no,
- 10:20Speaker 3: you can't take him out right there. You're like, oh,
- 10:21Speaker 3: I made one mistake, right? But here's the thing. He
- 10:25Speaker 3: had been in complete control, but he had the long inning.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Do you remember how long that inning was? Yes. When
- 10:32Speaker 2: Rebae walked everybody, right? He walked three guys. They changed pitchers.
- 10:35Speaker 2: They brought in D.L. Hall. There was a meeting on
- 10:37Speaker 2: the mound. There was a.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Pitch calm. There was a guy that ran on the field.
- 10:41Speaker 3: There was a balloon that got in the way. There
- 10:43Speaker 3: was a praying mantis on Churio's shoulder. I mean, there
- 10:46Speaker 3: was all these crazy things that happened, right? Yeah, traffic
- 10:48Speaker 3: for all the people going in and out of Dodger Stadium. But, right,
- 10:51Speaker 3: it was just a long half inning, and then he
- 10:53Speaker 3: walked Andrew Vaughn on a 3-2 curveball.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Fine. I get it, right?
- 10:58Speaker 3: 3-2 curveball. He walks him, and then Jake Powers puts
- 11:02Speaker 3: an at-bat on his ass. I mean, that was a
- 11:04Speaker 3: serious at-bat. That was as big a league of an
- 11:06Speaker 3: at-bat as you could.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Have, okay?
- 11:08Speaker 4: And then to hit a home run right there in
- 11:09Speaker 4: that situation, no.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And then you're like, okay.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Then you go Garrett Mitchell's on deck who he's dominated twice,
- 11:15Speaker 3: and he just throws a slider that doesn't do anything.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Garrett Mitchell crushed that ball, by the way. So, no,
- 11:22Speaker 3: I don't even know what to say except for there
- 11:25Speaker 3: was no signs of anything going wrong. So until all
- 11:28Speaker 3: of a sudden, wham, a walk, and then you had
- 11:30Speaker 3: righties up, so you're not bringing in the righties to
- 11:32Speaker 3: face Bowers and Mitchell. You're sticking with Snell.
- 11:35Speaker 2: It just– stuff happens. I got roasted for the whole
- 11:39Speaker 2: Fernando Tatis is still hitting the ball harder thing. Guess
- 11:43Speaker 2: who hits the ball consistent exit velocity harder than Fernando Tatis?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Garrett Mitchell. When he hits it. When he hits it.
- 11:51Speaker 2: When he hits it. I mean, that's the thing. I'm
- 11:55Speaker 2: using the analytics in my favor here, AJ. I agree.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I'm with you. But he hits the ball hard. He
- 12:02Speaker 2: hits the ball hard, and his swing path is never
- 12:05Speaker 2: going to hit 40 dingers, but you know what he did?
- 12:09Speaker 2: He clipped an off-speed pitch that he caught out in front,
- 12:14Speaker 2: probably sitting heater, which I assume you would be, clips
- 12:19Speaker 2: a slower pitch a little farther out in front, and
- 12:22Speaker 2: I think that homer just happened too fast. Whether or
- 12:27Speaker 2: not Dave Roberts says he got ambushed by it, No
- 12:32Speaker 2: way you're sitting there looking at who's next and going,
- 12:36Speaker 2: tough matchup for Blake Snell. And ultimately, when you're up
- 12:40Speaker 2: two and the Brewers have what they have in the pen,
- 12:44Speaker 2: that's definitely tough. But no way do I think Dave
- 12:48Speaker 2: Roberts made a mistake in that situation. Anybody who says
- 12:52Speaker 2: Dave Roberts made a mistake, I'm sorry. You don't have time.
- 12:54Speaker 2: He was absolutely cruising. And then I'll say this.
- 12:59Speaker 3: As soon as he walked Vaughn, they got– it was Phillips, right?
- 13:04Speaker 4: They got Evan Phillips up, didn't they?
- 13:05Speaker 2: Who came in after?
- 13:06Speaker 4: Yeah, they got Phillips.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So they had a righty up thinking Snell's going to
- 13:10Speaker 3: handle Bowers and Mitchell, and then we have the righties
- 13:12Speaker 3: for Ortiz and Pratt. And the problem is by the
- 13:16Speaker 3: time the righty was in and ready to go, there
- 13:18Speaker 3: was three runs on the board, and it was 4-2,
- 13:20Speaker 3: and the game was over. So, I mean, you can't
- 13:23Speaker 3: be ready for a 10-pitch at bat and a home
- 13:26Speaker 3: run And then even after the home run, you're thinking, well,
- 13:29Speaker 3: he'll get Garrett Mitchell out.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Like, no, people are saying Dave Roberts did this wrong.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Blake Snow was absolutely cruising. He was cruising.
- 13:39Speaker 1: What about Murph with Sabner Uribe? Ended up not mattering
- 13:43Speaker 1: later on. But, man, he was missing low. And then
- 13:47Speaker 1: he had a chance to take him out, and he
- 13:49Speaker 1: keeps him in.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I didn't mind that. Here's what I... If I'm in
- 13:57Speaker 2: Murph's spot, I think we were even talking about it
- 14:00Speaker 2: in our chat, should they take him out here? In
- 14:04Speaker 2: my opinion, Murph managed that spot like he was winning
- 14:11Speaker 2: 2-0 in the series, like he knows they're playing three
- 14:16Speaker 2: games in a row. If it's game three of this
- 14:20Speaker 2: three-game set here in L.A., I think they'd probably take
- 14:25Speaker 2: him out. He did not do what I think a
- 14:29Speaker 2: lot of managers would do right now, and that is panic,
- 14:33Speaker 2: got to go, hit the panic button. I think he
- 14:36Speaker 2: let him try to figure it out, and he said
- 14:39Speaker 2: water's going to level out, and you know what? It didn't.
- 14:42Speaker 2: And Will Smith hit the one ball that the Dodgers
- 14:46Speaker 2: hit hard and almost was a grand slam, which would
- 14:49Speaker 2: have been quite a difference.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that would have been a difference if that left
- 14:53Speaker 1: the yard. Do you think any of that has to
- 14:55Speaker 1: do with the Brewers prep before the game? Like, hey,
- 14:58Speaker 1: we feel like Shohei and Will Smith are not the
- 15:00Speaker 1: same right now.
- 15:01Speaker 5: As much of a threat.
- 15:03Speaker 3: Yes, but I didn't have a problem with him leaving
- 15:05Speaker 3: Uribe in because Uribe has been so good for him.
- 15:08Speaker 3: So I didn't have any problem with that. I mean,
- 15:10Speaker 3: they had D.O. Hall lefty warming up, but they weren't
- 15:12Speaker 3: going to bring him in. And the three-pitch minimum is
- 15:14Speaker 3: where it kind of got him, or three-batter minimum. And
- 15:17Speaker 3: so by the time they got D.O. Hall ready to go,
- 15:20Speaker 3: you know, he punched out Muncie. So you're thinking, all right, well,
- 15:24Speaker 3: he's found it out. You know, I thought Contreras should
- 15:27Speaker 3: have thrown a slider before he threw eight balls in
- 15:29Speaker 3: a row, but that's neither here nor there. He finally
- 15:32Speaker 3: threw some sliders to Muncie to punch him out, right?
- 15:34Speaker 3: So then you're thinking, okay, maybe another lefty's up, but
- 15:37Speaker 3: then he pitched almost, I don't want to say pitched
- 15:39Speaker 3: around Shohei, but he wasn't aggressive after Shohei thinking like, man,
- 15:43Speaker 3: have you watched Shohei hit the whole time.
- 15:45Speaker 2: In the postseason?
- 15:46Speaker 3: And then when Will Smith came up, he just got
- 15:47Speaker 3: a first pitch heater and missed a home run by
- 15:50Speaker 3: But I didn't have a problem with him leaving him in.
- 15:53Speaker 4: That's been your guy all year. He's got a one
- 15:55Speaker 4: ERA for the season. Leave him out there. Let him
- 15:58Speaker 4: figure it out.
- 15:58Speaker 2: But I'll tell you this.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Tomorrow, I don't think Uribe gets in the game. I
- 16:02Speaker 3: think they're going to wait until game five if it
- 16:04Speaker 3: gets to a game five. I think tomorrow the Brewers
- 16:06Speaker 3: are going to say, all right, if we get a lead,
- 16:07Speaker 3: we'll go with our horses. But if we don't, we
- 16:10Speaker 3: have game five, we have Miz going, and we'll have
- 16:12Speaker 3: a loaded bullpen ready to go.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Now, Ashby didn't pitch either.
- 16:15Speaker 4: So let's not forget, Ashby can give him multiple innings.
- 16:18Speaker 2: That's a big one.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I want to get to game five. Let's wrap this
- 16:22Speaker 1: part of the show up for a moment, and then
- 16:24Speaker 1: we'll push it forward to game five.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Game four.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Sorry, game four. Wrap it up game three. Push into
- 16:31Speaker 5: game four. Thank you, Kraft.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Full count fueled by marathon. I love that guy. Where
- 16:37Speaker 1: fun runs on full, save up to $ 1 a gallon
- 16:40Speaker 1: with marathon rewards.
- 16:45Speaker 5: Hey, we have Brewer. We'll show it later, maybe. I
- 16:50Speaker 5: was going to say we have some Brewers merch that
- 16:51Speaker 5: we can show off, but we'll hold it. We'll show it.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Let's get to All Smiles. Let's do it.
- 17:06Speaker 1: All Smiles presented by Lorainco. I think we need to
- 17:08Speaker 1: hammer this home. AJ, it's 3-0. And in today's game,
- 17:12Speaker 1: you mentioned it. Ashby didn't pitch. Ashby is disgusting right now.
- 17:18Speaker 1: He's having a banger year. He's pitching as well as ever.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And like you mentioned, Uribe can sit for a day.
- 17:25Speaker 1: It's not just sitting for rest. I mean, you don't
- 17:27Speaker 1: want to throw your guys three days in a row,
- 17:29Speaker 1: a bunch of them. But also overexposure to be able
- 17:32Speaker 1: to sit Uribe for a day so that the Dodgers
- 17:33Speaker 1: don't get to see Uribe every freaking game in Los Angeles.
- 17:37Speaker 1: They should be in a position where they can do that. Also, hey,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I mean, the Dodgers might take a game in this series.
- 17:43Speaker 1: But again, it is 3-0. Coming back from 3-0 doesn't
- 17:47Speaker 1: happen often.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Don't let them get one.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I'll tell you what Ozzie Guillen told us when we
- 17:54Speaker 3: went up 3-0 in the World Series. He said, you
- 17:57Speaker 3: think the Astros never won four games in a row?
- 17:59Speaker 3: How the heck do you think they got to the
- 18:01Speaker 3: World Series? And I guarantee you, Pat Murphy is in
- 18:04Speaker 3: that clubhouse telling these guys, you think the Dodgers never
- 18:07Speaker 3: won four games in a row, boys? We need to
- 18:08Speaker 3: put this away tomorrow. And that's the way the attitude
- 18:12Speaker 3: they need to have is we need to put this
- 18:13Speaker 3: thing away because you don't want them to get one.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Because if they get one and they might get some momentum,
- 18:18Speaker 3: then it turns it over. You get Scooble again. You
- 18:20Speaker 3: get Yamamoto possibly again. And then Snell, who's dealt against
- 18:24Speaker 3: the Brewers in the postseason in game seven. So you
- 18:26Speaker 3: want to win tomorrow and get this junk over with.
- 18:29Speaker 3: You want to step on their throat and put them
- 18:30Speaker 3: to bed and say, night-night, Dodgers. We're going to the
- 18:33Speaker 3: World Series for the first time since 1982.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Do you feel like– do you remember the feeling of
- 18:40Speaker 2: being up 3-0? Do you remember that? Absolutely, I remember that.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I remember it like it was yesterday when we were
- 18:48Speaker 2: up 3-0 against the Orioles and we were at home
- 18:51Speaker 2: in 2014. And I remember thinking the exact same thing.
- 18:55Speaker 2: And it's not a negative thing. It's like, it's to
- 18:58Speaker 2: me how you have to approach as a team. You
- 19:01Speaker 2: can't say, well, you know what? We're going to try
- 19:05Speaker 2: to win this game. But if we don't, it's totally fine. Like, no. Like,
- 19:09Speaker 2: you got to come out. You got to knock. Glass
- 19:12Speaker 2: now out tomorrow. You've got to knock him out of
- 19:14Speaker 2: the game, whatever that means. I'm not saying you've got
- 19:16Speaker 2: to score nine against him. I'm saying you've got to
- 19:19Speaker 2: get his pitch count up. When he walks two guys,
- 19:22Speaker 2: you've got to steal second and third. You have to
- 19:25Speaker 2: play this game with the same, if not more fire
- 19:29Speaker 2: than you played the other games because there's just this
- 19:31Speaker 2: feeling of like you don't want to let them up
- 19:34Speaker 2: off the mat. And if you let them up off
- 19:36Speaker 2: the mat, you have all those three dudes that just
- 19:39Speaker 2: pitched lined up back to back to back to back,
- 19:41Speaker 2: and then you go game seven glass now. Like, it
- 19:44Speaker 2: is it is imperative that they come out and just
- 19:49Speaker 2: take it to Tyler glass.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Now, do you guys think that the Dodgers are a
- 19:57Speaker 1: little bit out of gas? I mean, these two teams
- 19:59Speaker 1: are very, very different in a lot of ways, including age. Like,
- 20:02Speaker 1: do you think there, when you're watching the Dodger product
- 20:05Speaker 1: right now, are you like, ah, This is not a
- 20:07Speaker 1: World Series team this moment. You might have seen it
- 20:10Speaker 1: during the regular season, but it's about momentum in the
- 20:13Speaker 1: playoffs too. So you still think, AJ, you're watching this
- 20:16Speaker 1: team right now and you're like, yeah, I could see
- 20:17Speaker 1: this team winning a World Series.
- 20:18Speaker 5: I get it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: They have to win four games in a row right now.
- 20:20Speaker 1: But do you think this is just a Brewers team
- 20:23Speaker 1: that's got it all?
- 20:26Speaker 3: Sometimes it's just your year. Sometimes it's just your year, guys.
- 20:31Speaker 3: And sometimes it isn't your year. And sometimes you look
- 20:35Speaker 3: and you say– Did we use up all our capital
- 20:38Speaker 3: when we won the World Series last year when we
- 20:41Speaker 3: probably should have lost it to the Blue Jays? And
- 20:44Speaker 3: it's just a funny thing about baseball, guys. Did I
- 20:48Speaker 3: think the 2013 Boston Red Sox were better than the
- 20:53Speaker 3: 2013 Detroit Tigers when they played in that playoff, epic playoff?
- 20:56Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Go look at that Tigers team and tell me how
- 20:59Speaker 4: good that Tigers team was.
- 21:01Speaker 2: But you know what?
- 21:02Speaker 3: It was the Red Sox year that year, and they
- 21:03Speaker 3: won the World Series, and they went on because– That
- 21:06Speaker 3: was the bombing year. And sometimes just things line up
- 21:08Speaker 3: for you, right? And right now, when you look at
- 21:12Speaker 3: it from a 50,000-foot view looking down, it just looks
- 21:17Speaker 3: like it's the Brewers' year.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I don't know why.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I can't explain it. But could the Dodgers win the
- 21:22Speaker 3: World Series this year? Absolutely. But they need Freddie to
- 21:25Speaker 3: get hot. They need Mookie to get hot. They need
- 21:27Speaker 3: Shohei to get hot. They need Will Smith to get hot.
- 21:29Speaker 3: They need about seven guys to get hot in their lineup.
- 21:31Speaker 4: And it's hard to go from not hitting at all
- 21:34Speaker 4: to getting really hot.
- 21:36Speaker 5: Right. I mean, that's the thing, Kratz. Will Smith, up
- 21:39Speaker 5: until that A.B., really struggling in the postseason.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Freddie Freeman's won for what? Freddie Freeman's won for something.
- 21:46Speaker 2: They said it. 15 or something.
- 21:48Speaker 1: And also, I know he had some big swings last round,
- 21:51Speaker 1: but Freddie has had a really tough second half and
- 21:54Speaker 1: really tough last month, month and a half of the
- 21:56Speaker 1: season where there was almost no pop. There was no
- 21:58Speaker 1: pop from Otani at the end of the season. There's
- 22:01Speaker 1: some guys that are really going through it. Kyle Tucker's
- 22:03Speaker 1: had some good swings. in the playoffs but he had
- 22:06Speaker 1: a terrible year for his standards like you just look
- 22:08Speaker 1: at the roster up and down starting lineup and you're
- 22:11Speaker 1: like there are a lot of flaws here there just
- 22:13Speaker 1: are right it's not a perfect roster money can't buy
- 22:16Speaker 1: you everything just ask the Mets but I mean seriously
- 22:21Speaker 1: we're about to most likely right there's probably about a
- 22:24Speaker 1: 95 percent chance we have Brewers versus Rays or Guardians
- 22:28Speaker 1: in a year where after that we're about to be
- 22:30Speaker 1: told The little guys don't have a chance.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Yet A.J.
- 22:32Speaker 1: 's White Sox have won one title in 100 years,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and they're in a top-three market city, while the Brewers
- 22:37Speaker 1: are good every year, and they're one win away from
- 22:40Speaker 1: a World Series appearance.
- 22:41Speaker 5: But I digress.
- 22:42Speaker 1: We can get back to that at another time. Yeah,
- 22:44Speaker 1: the Dodgers not only individually have had a lot of issues.
- 22:48Speaker 1: If you actually look at the series, like the games
- 22:50Speaker 1: they've played since at some point in July, they barely
- 22:53Speaker 1: beat any good teams. And I know regular season ball
- 22:56Speaker 1: is different from postseason ball, but at some point, you've
- 22:58Speaker 1: got to flip the switch. And aside from beating the Braves,
- 23:01Speaker 1: look at the calendar. Like, look at August, look at September. Like,
- 23:04Speaker 1: they were not beating the good teams. The good teams
- 23:06Speaker 1: matching up in a three or four game series were
- 23:08Speaker 1: beating them.
- 23:10Speaker 2: The offense was just average in the second half. I
- 23:12Speaker 2: forget what the date was. It was just a tick
- 23:14Speaker 2: before the All-Star break. They're 15th in almost every category offensively. So, yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: they're going through it. Do I think they're tired or
- 23:23Speaker 2: aged in the middle of the season? Absolutely not. I
- 23:27Speaker 2: do not. I do not ascribe to that, and I won't.
- 23:30Speaker 2: I'm going to have to hear a player go, I
- 23:33Speaker 2: had nothing left. I just kept hitting the gas in
- 23:36Speaker 2: the National League Championship Series, and I had nothing left. No, sorry.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I can't believe that until I hear it. No one's
- 23:44Speaker 2: going to say that. Nobody's going to. No player's going
- 23:47Speaker 2: to say that. Because it's not.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Because same as when Shohei said they thought Shohei wasn't
- 23:52Speaker 3: going to play. What did Dave Roberts say?
- 23:53Speaker 2: We asked him.
- 23:54Speaker 3: What did I say earlier on our show? You have
- 23:57Speaker 3: to just tell him. You can't ask him because if
- 23:59Speaker 3: you ask him, he's going to say he's fine. And
- 24:01Speaker 3: he figured it out. I mean, he got a hit tonight,
- 24:03Speaker 3: so I got to give him credit. He did hit
- 24:04Speaker 3: a piss missile.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah. I actually texted one of his hitting coaches that
- 24:14Speaker 2: he really respected and I feel like helped turn him around.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And he was like, look, if Shohei– I'm trying to
- 24:21Speaker 2: find his exact response. He said, if Shohei– Figures it out.
- 24:26Speaker 2: He said, right now, clearly, he's hampered in his lower half.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Everybody knows that. Captain obvious. He said, if Shohei's going
- 24:32Speaker 2: to figure this out, he has to just take his
- 24:35Speaker 2: singles up the middle. And he texted me afterwards. He's like, well,
- 24:40Speaker 2: there's a single up the middle. So, the velocity, exit
- 24:42Speaker 2: velocity is there. I think he hit that one like 113.
- 24:45Speaker 2: But he's like, without his legs, he's never going to
- 24:48Speaker 2: be able to stay through the ball and catch one
- 24:51Speaker 2: out front.
- 24:52Speaker 5: So.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Did Shohei turn the corner because he got hit by
- 24:55Speaker 2: a pitch? He walked and he hit a ball up
- 24:58Speaker 2: the middle. I don't think he turned the corner. I
- 25:00Speaker 2: just think he believes and understands what he is right now,
- 25:05Speaker 2: and he may just be a hard ground ball up
- 25:09Speaker 2: the middle for the rest of the series, rest of
- 25:11Speaker 2: the playoffs, if the Dodgers can somehow continue on. But
- 25:15Speaker 2: all that to say, everybody's hurting in some way, but
- 25:20Speaker 2: nobody's ever going to make that excuse. That's it. Nobody will.
- 25:27Speaker 5: And he wasn't the problem tonight. You know, he did things.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Like you said, he created traffic. He doesn't have the
- 25:34Speaker 5: big home run swing, but he did things. And this
- 25:36Speaker 5: is all smiles. So back to the Brewers.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Yeah, no pop. I know that.
- 25:40Speaker 5: The pop is on the Milwaukee side.
- 25:42Speaker 3: No, I mean no pop through the entire Dodgers lineup.
- 25:45Speaker 2: There's no power.
- 25:46Speaker 5: Correct.
- 25:47Speaker 2: It's a huge. There's legit like no power, which.
- 25:49Speaker 3: It's something that everyone said the Brewers had none of. Dodgers, even, listen,
- 25:53Speaker 3: against the Braves, all their runs were on home runs.
- 25:56Speaker 3: That was their runs, right? But now they're not hitting
- 25:59Speaker 3: home runs, and they can't score. They can't score.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Dude, the Brewers look like a much better team right now.
- 26:06Speaker 5: Right now.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Scott, you glazed over it when we were talking about
- 26:09Speaker 2: the second half of the season. They were one game over.
- 26:13Speaker 2: 500 against teams over.
- 26:16Speaker 5: 500.
- 26:16Speaker 2: They were 30... I think they were 40 or 33
- 26:22Speaker 2: and 32, something like that. So throughout the season, they
- 26:25Speaker 2: did not beat, like you said, they did not beat
- 26:28Speaker 2: the best teams in the league the way that you
- 26:31Speaker 2: think a 100-win Dodgers team would beat the best teams. Yep.
- 26:37Speaker 5: Totally fair.
- 26:40Speaker 1: And for Milwaukee, look at the last two regular seasons
- 26:43Speaker 1: for this team.
- 26:44Speaker 5: And look at the result they had last year in
- 26:46Speaker 5: the LCS, and it's.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Been completely flipped. They were swept last year. They couldn't
- 26:50Speaker 1: hit a lick against some dominant starting pitching. And they're
- 26:54Speaker 1: taking down that same starting pitching in this series. Some
- 26:57Speaker 1: of the same guys, Yamamoto, they got enough to Snell,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and good for them. They're all smiles right now.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And I'll say this. The Cubs series, and they admitted this,
- 27:07Speaker 3: it took a lot out of them. They weren't ready
- 27:09Speaker 3: for the Dodgers. When it came time for them to
- 27:12Speaker 3: play the Dodgers, if you speak to people inside the
- 27:14Speaker 3: Brewers organization and it's not an excuse they'll tell you
- 27:17Speaker 3: hey we were not ready we were absolutely exhausted after
- 27:20Speaker 3: the Cubs series and we didn't know what to do
- 27:23Speaker 3: we didn't know how to react we didn't know what
- 27:25Speaker 3: to do and we got our butts whooped and you
- 27:27Speaker 3: know what they did they went out took care of
- 27:29Speaker 3: business against San Diego and now they're taking care of
- 27:31Speaker 3: business against.
- 27:31Speaker 2: The Dodgers so it's.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Been really fun to watch how teams can actually improve
- 27:37Speaker 3: year after year if they kind of stick together and
- 27:42Speaker 3: get a little bit better. Like the one team that
- 27:44Speaker 3: you love so much, Scott, said they were going to.
- 27:45Speaker 3: I'm not going to mention the team's name.
- 27:48Speaker 1: They have continuity right now, Milwaukee. That is a good point.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I mean, some of these guys are actually locked up long-term.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Jackson Churio with the home run, we didn't mention much,
- 27:57Speaker 1: but had the first pitch homer off of Blake Snell,
- 27:59Speaker 1: a little wake-up call, a little boost, a little rainco actually.
- 28:03Speaker 1: And they've signed Cooper Pratt long-term, Luis Lara, who plays.
- 28:07Speaker 2: A mean– He made some nice catches in right field.
- 28:10Speaker 5: There were some nice catches by him. Mitchell had a
- 28:12Speaker 5: nice catch. Luis Lara is going to be really fun
- 28:16Speaker 5: to watch for years in the outfield. He is one
- 28:19Speaker 5: of those.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Guys where he knows how to manipulate his body on dives,
- 28:23Speaker 1: but also I haven't talked about this in a while,
- 28:26Speaker 1: but the Lorenzo Cain factor, Kratz, you know how some
- 28:29Speaker 1: guys will dive for everything? He's got that closeout speed
- 28:34Speaker 1: where sometimes he'll just run down a ball where you're like, oh,
- 28:36Speaker 1: everyone else would have been diving for that, but The
- 28:39Speaker 1: perfect first step.
- 28:40Speaker 5: He glides sometimes. Not as big as Locaine, but he glides.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Locaine ran balls down differently. He was long striding balls.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Locaine would say, good outfielders, you don't see them dive
- 28:55Speaker 2: because they're getting good jumps. In Milwaukee, it's different in LA.
- 28:59Speaker 2: It's a little bit bigger there. Milwaukee, that outfield is
- 29:02Speaker 2: so small. If you can go get it together, it
- 29:05Speaker 2: just seems like they don't have a lot of space
- 29:09Speaker 2: for you to hit the ball in that outfield. And
- 29:12Speaker 2: even to the point, David Hamilton's a little bit banged up.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Joey Ortiz, who had one hit coming into the series
- 29:18Speaker 2: in the postseason, he's playing third. He made a really
- 29:22Speaker 2: hard short hop look super easy early on in that game.
- 29:26Speaker 2: And like, they just, they, they do a lot of
- 29:30Speaker 2: things and you can't watch the Brewers and go, man,
- 29:33Speaker 2: I hate watching the Brewers play. They're just an ugly
- 29:36Speaker 2: style baseball. Nobody's ever said that.
- 29:39Speaker 1: No, it's a fun brand of baseball to watch, and
- 29:42Speaker 1: we'll have plenty of coverage on Thursday on this series.
- 29:46Speaker 1: So first off, Lorraine Co., thanks for being a sponsor here.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Cinnamon's my fave.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Mango. Mango slaps. Sorry. Mango is so good.
- 29:57Speaker 5: Good. The battle is on.
- 29:58Speaker 1: That's why we debate about everything. Baseball fans, time to
- 30:01Speaker 1: lock in. It can help give you a little boost

- 30:15Speaker 1: mentally sharp late at night, like right now, and they

- 30:33Speaker 5: lot of Brewer player, merch. Look what we're building. Uh,
- 30:37Speaker 5: you see that shirt on the top left corner. Yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah. And get some home runs.
- 30:47Speaker 5: Um, I'm going to send you a little viral. Tick tock.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Insta clip. South for you.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Like singing that song. Someone made a song that is, um, Interesting.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And it has caught fire. And we have a shirt
- 31:03Speaker 1: for it. I think it could get very popular in Milwaukee.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It might be their Go Cubs Go, AJ. I'll just
- 31:07Speaker 1: leave it at that and then make sure to react
- 31:09Speaker 1: to what I'm talking about tomorrow if you haven't seen
- 31:11Speaker 1: it yet.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I want to get your reaction.
- 31:14Speaker 5: I will send it to you right after the show.
- 31:15Speaker 5: It is perfect for going to bed. It is just soothing.
- 31:18Speaker 5: It's like that.
- 31:19Speaker 2: If it's anything like Go Cubs Go, it ain't going
