- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the show, Adam Pally.
- 0:02SPEAKER_02: Hello, how are you?
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: Good, thanks.
- 0:04SPEAKER_02: How are you doing?
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: I'm uh you know shitty.
- 0:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:09SPEAKER_02: Shitty.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: But I think everybody's doing shitty, so it's like if you say shitty, people are like, great, great, me too.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: We're in a uh a lockdown again at the moment, so yeah, we're we're we're we would I wish we were in a lockdown because it would make things a lot easier to navigate.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Like right now, it's like you just know that everyone has COVID on the street, so you're just like paralyzed and not leaving your and not leaving your house.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Have you been staying in most of the time, then?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I've been staying.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I'm trying, I'm trying my best.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, we have kids.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: So we've been sending them to school because they, you know, New York schools are relatively safe, but it it feels crazy.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: The whole thing feels crazy.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: And uh yeah, so like uh what I was gonna say, like Biden, though, he's he's been saying that he's gonna put some kind of like I was reading like three to four week lockdown or something once he comes in.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: So maybe I I don't know, whatever.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: As long as someone does something right now, it's just terrible.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: You're the first American I've spoken to, I think, since the election as well.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: So yeah, do I seem really thrilled?
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: You seem so happy.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Well, no, I I am, I am, it's amazing.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I mean I'm so happy that we that we that we were able to not be taken over by a dictator.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Um, it was close.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Uh and now I just hope that we can, you know, anything is better than yeah than what we had.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I'm I'm just kind of waiting it out, waiting to see what happens.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I think the whole world is waiting at the moment.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: So you you came on the podcast to talk about um Ace Ventura when Nature Calls.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: I was gonna call it Ace Ventura, sorry, but it's Ace Ventura When Nature Calls.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Um I I I mean I wouldn't exactly call it a sequel.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, so you're gonna have to help me out with this because I haven't seen the I haven't seen I well, I saw this one uh yesterday.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen the original in since I was a kid, since I was a kid.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, get on it, it's classic feeling.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: So I don't remember I know I know that Courtney Cox is in it, and I I was like, oh, she's gonna be in this one as well, but she wasn't.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: It's not well at by the time the second one came out, she was already on friends, so it was like kind of a lateral, you know.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, that the uh what nature calls is not a sequel, it's it's like in would you call like a James Bond movie a sequel?
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: No, that's a good point.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it's kind of just like their own individual story.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: In the pantheon of Ace Ventura, which lasts two movies.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Two movies, and then there's like a kid's one, isn't there?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: There's an animated show, yeah, which wasn't bad.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Which wasn't bad, but no, but there's also a kid's ace ventura, like a ace ventura, yeah, from like about five years ago or something.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Ah, yeah, I'm glad I was like probably drunk for that.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I think I missed that.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: So what what's your history with this one then?
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Well, this one, you know, I rediscovered this one because my kids, my son, uh my oldest son is eight, and he's like okay, starting to get into comedies.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: And so we we run through a lot of like the classic Standler stuff, and then yeah, we started going into Jim Carrey's library, and so you know, uh Ace Ventura one is great, but it's a little mature.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: There are some themes there that are, you know, Finkel is Einhorn, um, is a little bit complicated for kids these days.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: But aceventure when nature calls actually is a little more um sophomoric, if you can believe it.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can definitely see that.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: And uh so there's there's all these great physical gags that and I I love physical comedy.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: It's like one of my favorite like when it's done great, you have a picture of Chaplin behind you, it's like, you know, uh to me, when nature calls is like Jim Carrey's City Light.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Um quite the comparison.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: I think I think most would agree.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Um I mean that scene when he's um being birthed from a from a rhino in the case.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's that's an iconic scene.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: I do remember that.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: It's so funny, it's hilarious.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Um, everything he does, every move Jim Carrey makes is is hilarious.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: He I found I found him kind of um exhausting in this personally.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: I it's just like I I'm uh so I am a fan of him and I'm a fan of his physical comedy and everything.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: I I do like all of that stuff.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: I just felt like I I don't remember because I hadn't seen it in so long since I was a kid.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: I didn't remember he just like it feels like he hasn't doesn't take a breath this entire movie.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: He just comes.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: He doesn't, that's that's the character, yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: You know, maybe like I watched it with my son, so you're watching it again through a child's eyes a little bit, and it's like that relentlessness is is hilarious, yeah.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: You know, to them.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: It keeps them, it keeps their uh interest down.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And so I like it.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: I like that he doesn't take a breath.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Why do why do you need to stop?
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Stop when the movie's over.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's only it's only like 82 minutes.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: I know that's the other thing.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: It's really short, really short, but as movies should be, as great comedy should be.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: They should leave you.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I had an improv teacher once that told me that you should leave a scene with the audience like this, like sitting forward.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Because if you lead a scene with them sitting back, then they figure they figured it out already.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good point.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: The other thing as well, like when I was reading about this, um, I read that they had to cut five minutes from the UK version of it as well to get like a PG rating.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: So like five minutes.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I think there's like random things, but like there's a scene where he's like masturbating and like there's um it's like things like that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there is a scene of masturbation.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Probably the stuff where probably the scene where she flashes him.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Um I would imagine like those are the things that's they were cool with him drinking bad shit.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: This is like mid-90s UK.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know what they were like there.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know what the politics of mid-90s UK was.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, uh it was um it I think that that the movie doesn't get enough credit.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: There's also great supporting turns like Tommy Davidson.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was gonna say I was so surprised that Tommy Davidson was in it in that scene.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So great.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: He's so great in that scene, and that's all physical comedy.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I'm like entirely.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: He doesn't have that line.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: No, it's not one of my favorite scenes of all time when he throws him, throws a spear and and Ace and sort of like throw me the spear and hits him in the leg, and he's like that's like that is really a pinnacle of filmmaking.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: So let's uh give a synopsis for anyone who hasn't seen it.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: It's um so basically Ace Ventura is a Ace Ventura, the pet detective.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: He's a carry, it's a so it's a spin-off of kind of a spin-off of the original, like you said.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Like it's not um a direct one.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Another episode.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: So he is um he's called upon to try and track down a um a bat that's gone missing from this tribe that someone has stolen, and he's um he's he's been uh this like these people call on him to go and help, and they offer him 20,000 to go and do it, uh which is again not a lot of money.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: It doesn't sound like for someone but Ace Ventura doesn't have a lot of money, you know.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: He wears the same thing every day.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: He wears a Hawaiian shirt, combat boots, and stripe pants, and a wife beer.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Like he doesn't need Ace Ventura doesn't need the finer things in life, it's all to take care of the animals, you know.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's true.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Did they ever give a backstory to Ace Ventura?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: No, we don't need to get into it.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: No, uh yeah, it's true.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: I just what I was just wondering where he came from and what and what anything about him.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: Well, his business was based in Miami, Florida.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Um, and then after he found the dolphin and cured the Miami Dolphin to cured fixed the Miami Dolphins problem, he went to a monastery and kind of and needed to chill out a little and reconnect.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: So that that is where we find him.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: We find him in the monastery.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Like um, so someone, this guy, um, what is his name?
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: It's uh I wrote it down, it's uh Fulton.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Fulton goes in.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Fulton goes in.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: What's it?
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Uh it is Ian McNeese.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Ian McNeese.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: If that's not a British actor's name, I don't know what it is.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Uh it has to be a British actor.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: There's no Ian McNeese from Idaho.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Just the name McNeese in itself is just so Yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: It's so British.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: He's definitely from Scotland or something.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so European.
- 8:55unknown: McNeese.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: Uh but he's he he's great in that movie.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's great.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: And the other person, the other, the other great performance in that movie, uh forgive me for not knowing the name, is the actor who played the tribe, the tribal um leader.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is he is terrific.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Uh oh, he's not listed on this.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know his name.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: Sorry, yeah, I don't know either.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: I if anyone is listening to this and can find him, he's amazing.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: And that's that scene where he's going back and forth about the translation.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, that joke has been in every movie, and it that is still the funniest version of it.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, definitely, definitely.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: He's so like there are again, yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I I was talking badly about it at the start, but there are some so many funny moments in the city.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: This movie I simply won't let you.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what you come on here to do.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: You come on here to defend it anyway.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, I will defend most of Jim Carrey's catalog.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: There's very few you can't defend.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe that one about the movie theater.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Man, maybe the penguins.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: But the majestic.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, like the majestic.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: It's a little sappy.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: I'll let you have the penguins, and then the rest of Jim Cym Carrey's catalog is untouchable.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Do you know what's funny?
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Someone else brought up uh Mr.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Popper's penguins to me today.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: They were like, uh, they were like, I'll come on and defend that.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Well that, hey, I haven't seen that, but I I welcome anyone defending it.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: But I have worked, I have worked with him.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: You've worked with him?
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Uh I have.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: On what?
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: A movie called Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: That's right, yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: And we're starting out to work together again in a month or two.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, is that the sequel then?
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: And uh, he's the greatest.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: I loved it.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, amazing.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: I loved it.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, it's like riding, it's like riding a Lamborghini working with Jim Carrey.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Just ease, just an ease working with him.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: Well, I wouldn't call driving a Lamborghini.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: No, but it's like the first time you do it.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: No, but like it's just fast.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And you have to kind of like give over to it, and then you can have a lot of fun driving a Lamborghini, you know.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: But at first, you're like, this is not my Prius.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: So does that since you're working on a uh a sequel, does that mean he's not coming back as Biden?
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: I'd imagine.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I think he is.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think he's doing it both.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, I don't know how he's gonna do it, but the man likes to work and do for him.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: He's the 80.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: No, he's not.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: No, he's not.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: How I haven't sorry, I haven't seen Sonic the Hedgehog yet.
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: How many were you in a lot of scenes with him?
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Uh one scene with him.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: One scene, right?
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it was great.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Did you did you improvise with him at all?
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, amazing.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that must have been so fun.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: It was so fun.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: And I hear we have a bunch of stuff together in the new one, so I'm really excited.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, amazing.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to check it out because I've heard it's really good as well.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: I've heard really good things.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: It's good, it's funny, yeah.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: It's a great kids' movie.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's and it was blasts a blast to do.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Wasn't it the highest grossing movie this year at like for a while?
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: It was.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: It was.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: It was.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: That's uh I'm a you know, small part big movie, as I'm known to do.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Well, you're also in Iron Man 3, which is like one of the highest grossing movies of all time.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: That's very true.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Small part, big movie.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: I have that tattooed all across my back.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Just in all small, small font.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Small part, big movie.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: There are there are small parts, and there are small actors.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, you're not a small act, I wouldn't call you a small actor.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: About five, ten and a half.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Put on a little pandemic weight.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Do you know I actually saw you do uh I saw you do a lot of improv at um DCM uh 20.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Um about was I what was that, like three years ago, two years ago?
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: The last one in New York.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was probably like three years ago.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that was like I saw you you saw you, Ben, and Gil do like so like so many shows.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, those are good times, man.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Those are good times.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: I hope that that can happen again sometime, but I don't know.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, who knows?
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: But yeah.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you for coming to those.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: That was amazing.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: I also see I saw you do um Vino Diesel as well.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a blast.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: That was amazing.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: That was so fun.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: It's it's a fun show because the audience gets to play in that one.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's great.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: It's so fun.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: I look forward to hopefully doing that again soon.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, so back let's talk about the movie then.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: So like it's um so it opens with um a rescue copter going into the mountains, and uh you don't you're not entirely sure what's going on, but you realize they're like trying to rescue someone, and then you see like it it zooms right in.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: So this is the so this is a parody.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna stop.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: This is a parody scene from a movie that you probably haven't seen called Cliffhanger.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: I have Have you ever seen Cliffhanger?
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: A long time ago, and I I only realized it was a parody once I read about it afterwards.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: So that's uh this scene.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: So this scene at the time was very poignant and funny because you have to realize cliffhanger at the time was in the zeitgeist.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: People were doing cliffhanger bits, there was a lot of like you know, climbing and stuff.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And actually, this is what sends Ace Ventura to the monastery is that the monkey doesn't make it and dies.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: No, the raccoon.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: That's a very the raccoon, sorry, whatever.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, because he has his monkey the whole time, that's why right.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: The monkey does not die, but the raccoon that's climbing with him perishes.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's a sad and and they do that that that scene where the hand goes out and the raccoon hand falls through.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's hilarious.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: It is, it's very funny.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: But so that's what sends it.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: So had you seen Cliffhanger?
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, had you seen it when you first when you'd first seen this movie, had you seen Cliffhanger already?
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: If you were a kid in America, you saw you, if you were like 10, you saw Cliff.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh Celeste Stallone was like the guy.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, like Rambo and Rocky, everything he did, you know, we went we we went to this, we went to see that was our life.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: So what you so you were at 10 when this came out then, or like around that age.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: I don't remember.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: I think I was a little older.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: I don't remember because I I I um I was born in '82.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: What time of the same?
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: What year did this name?
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: Thir 13.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: 13, yeah.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: So this is pretty formative.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's probably like a perfect age for you to see it then.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I had already seen the first one.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Of course, yeah.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: That was like a couple of years before this as well, isn't it?
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: I think.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: Probably I was like 10 or 11, yeah.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a good age to see it.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: I saw it when it, so I did see it also see it when it came out as well, but I was like, uh, so I would have been like six, something like that.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: You don't have to, we don't have to, I don't have to know how much younger than me you are.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: We don't have to do this.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: I was just I was doing that to work out how old, like I was a I was a I was a child, and so it didn't impact me as much.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I'm an old man who likes old movies.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: I've I've I've been on like I've just joined TikTok and I feel so old on it.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: So I'm right.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Are you on TikTok?
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: How are you doing on it?
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I just joined it, so I'm like doing very badly so far, but my daughter has an account on it on my phone, and the only thing I I I it makes me nauseous, like it's too much information at one time.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: I can't like deal with the thing, and um, it takes up so much battery.
- 16:42unknown: It does, yeah.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: So that's a real old man hot take for you.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: It does though.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Don't come, don't compare yourself.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: You know what you gotta do.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: You gotta like the way to get a lot of you gotta do something on TikTok.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: You gotta like, you gotta like um make like a chessboard out of candy.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, not doing that.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: You know, that's so much like I know, but that's what you gotta do.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: You gotta like, you gotta like look, you gotta like go out to the street naked and snap your fingers, yeah, and then also be naked after the snap.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: One of my friends did a thing of like throwing as she so she painted her room and she just like threw she did like this thing of like throwing a fake uh grenade in there and like showing the the thing, and she got like a hundred thousand views for doing that.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Did she make any money?
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: That's another thing.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: You don't make money from these.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: It's like you're throwing yeah, Twitter, you don't make money from that unless you're getting a writing job out of it or something.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I'm yet I'm yet to be hired out of Twitter.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like you came up at a slightly better time for that.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Uh I guess.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Or what?
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: For being hired?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I guess.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Like it's too it's oversaturated.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: It's oversaturating.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: But there's there's so much opportunity now.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: There is, yeah.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: There's like a 500 million shows.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Well, there was so much opportunity until like the beginning of this year.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but that'll there's still a lot.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: Like, television's not gonna stop.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there are gonna be a lot of TV, you know.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: You'll have a shot, you'll have a chance to bust through this crowded bullshit.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Plus, I'm gonna be dead soon.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be dead soon.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: You're not much older than me.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: No, but just I'm people don't live long in my family.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: I always thought I'd die young.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's so bleak.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Hey, you've been you've you were on like plenty of TV shows before my age, so don't even worry about it.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: That that can't be true.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: That cannot be true.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: Definitely true.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: I'm 31, you're on TV.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Anyway, enough complaining about me.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Let's let's let's enjoy the movie.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Barely, barely.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: Um so what else is going on in Ace Hinter now?
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: So now he's in the monster, he's upset about the raccoon.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: He um yeah, so he's in the monastery, and um Oh no, I want to uh so I want to go back to the the cliffhanger scene though, because he that he get he gives off his iconic line in this part, which is the loser line, um which is brought back to the street.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: Studies in the first one too.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, La Hooser.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: I loved it.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: Loved seeing it on SNL.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was so glad to see it on SNL to be honest.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: It was great.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was great.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: Very cathartic.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: It was just like we've been waiting for him to do it this entire time, but it just yeah, it was very needed.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: And um, so then yeah, he's got Spike with him on the on the cliffhanger scene, and he says he goes to save the raccoon and it slipped from his hand.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Then it cuts to um the Buddhist temple the Buddhist monk temple in the mountains, and Fulton is looking for him.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: And he goes and oh go on, sorry.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: This also has a great a great part that I don't the chanting of the monks is alrighty then.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, notice that uh yes, that's one of my favorite jokes in the whole movie.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: It's really funny.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: It's really because it's really long, yeah.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: It's like righty then.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: So great.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: So great.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: It has to have come like I'm I'm assuming they that he taught them that, but like, or it's just a stupid joke.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: But I think it's just like that he got to the monastery, and that's the champ that you know what I mean.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but it's the perfect place for him.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: You can't you can't do too much logic guessing in an ace.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: No, he's charismatic.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: People love him wherever he goes.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Uh but they so they're looking, he's looking for the uh he's looking for Ace, this guy Fulton, and he's like um he's talking to he's talking to the like the head monk, and um the monk is just like, oh, we don't go by any names here, so I don't know who Ace is, and like I don't know, um we're all one human, we're all one uh being, so we don't I couldn't tell you what they look like or anything.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: And it's like, oh, it's the guy that um makes farts uh that talks out of his like backside of us.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Talks out of his ass.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Talks out of his ass, yeah.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: And they're like, Oh, yeah, that's him, we'll take you to him.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: And he's just like in another room meditating with all the animals, uh like every single animal you can imagine.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: And it's it's great.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: He's just like and then they do a really good job, they do a really good job in the sequel of like heightening from the first one in all their beats because they did this scene in the first.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: One with the UPS they're called open.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: And the first one was like he comes out with the UPS thing and he's like running and smashing it.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: And then he's going to steal back uh was it the monkey, or I forget what he's going to repair it or something in the beginning.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: And um, then they do this scene where the the neighbor's like, Do you got any animals in here?
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna find out, and then she leaves and he's like, Oh, and all the birds and stuff.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: And this is such a nice heightening beat to that where he's like now a monk, but yet still all the animals are around him.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: He can like talk to them cosmically.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: It's pretty great.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he he I don't know.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: I think like all the animal work in this is also really, really good.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: And I think that comes from the uh terrific.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: It's it comes from the director as well, I feel like it's um Steve um Tom Shadia?
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: No, this one is Steve Oderkirk, who did um all those Steve Oderkirk directed this, yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: He wrote and directed this.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, is he doing a lot of Sandler?
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: I think he's worked with some Sandler stuff too, yeah.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, I know.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: What is Steve going?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Now I'm going on my IMDB.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: What are you what are you calling him from?
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: He's from like the though he used to do all those like thumb things.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Um do you remember those like th spoof of like spoof all those movies, but like with a thumb character?
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: And he used to like put impose superimpose his face over it.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, yeah.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: And then he did like Kung Pao into the fist.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, he was he was the he did all these Jim Carrey movies.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: I remember why he was a punchline.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Patch Adams.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Patch Adams.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: But he also did he directed The Nutty Professor, he directed, which is Nutty Professor's like in my top 10 of movies.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: That's a great movie.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: You know, he's got some he's got some stinkers, for sure.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: He's got some stinkers, but you know, who doesn't?
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: It happens, and also, but like he he's got a good track record as well.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Like he know he knows what to do with like big big uh like technical things.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: He knows how to waste a waste a ton of money, yeah.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: Well, he did have an almighty, which is like what 200 million or something.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he always has a big budget.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: But uh, yeah, he but he again he knows how to work with all of this these these things, and I think that's why it works so well with like uh with all these animals in this.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: Um and also it's it's also it's it's not CGI animals as well.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: It's all these like no, which is what I love about it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like Frank Oz.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's got a real like, yeah, it's I'll I I prefer that.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I don't like the the I hated that uh um Robert Downey uh I didn't even see all that.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was garbage.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Like the big end of that movie is that that this dragon that's been terrorizing the town is constipated, and so like Robert Downey has to go into the dragon's app and like pull out a bunch of dragon shit.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: It's it's awesome.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: Uh it's really terrible.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it doesn't sound good.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Like it it looks bad as well.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Like it is bad.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: It's bad.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: No one wants like even while you're watching it, you're like, who wanted to see this?
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Did the did the people making this want to see this?
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: That can't be.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: But like in this uh in this, he's like, um basically that he gets offered 20,000 to save this bat, to go and find this bat, um, and save it because it's been stolen from this uh from this tribe.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: And originally initially he's like, oh no, I I couldn't do it.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: I I I'm I'm one with I've I've given up all my uh earthly possessions, I'm here, I'm I'm staying here.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: And just and they're like, Well, we'll give you 20,000.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: He's like, Well, fine, okay, I'm gonna do it.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: And he just like leaves.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Uh oh no, sorry, he doesn't go to leave.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: The monks, the monk tells him to leave.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: The monk convinces him to leave.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Because they don't want him there anymore.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: They clearly don't want him there.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Oh no, I'll give you my medallion to leave.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: Uh it's gonna help you on the on your journey.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: He's like, Well, you've had it for you've had it for generations.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: He's like, No, it's fine, you can have it, take it, go.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: And then as he's leaving, they're all partying because they're so happy he's leaving.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: And this is when that alrighty thing comes back as well, you start hearing it again.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: He's gone.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Someone speaks, right?
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: And they're all like doing backflips and like stripping down.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: It was so funny.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: I love when movies you said, like jokes like that.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's great.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: And then he as he's leaving, he's like, there's like the huge staircase to get down, and he like drops his, he's like, I've got to do one more thing, and he puts a sling key and it goes down the whole way, and it stops on the final step, and he's like, Come on!
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: And then he starts walking back up.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's like, Can I do it?
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: Just let me do it again.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: So many good gags at this.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't know how this is not a 100% on tomato.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: This is a this this should be a criterion collection.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Can you imagine that?
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Imagine the fancy cover for it.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: It should be.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: But it's so it's a 24 it's 25 per 25?
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, 25 from the critics, but it's 72% from the audience.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: That's that and that's more like it.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: And that's that's why Rotten Tomatoes is bullshit.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: I wonder what all my I wonder what all mine are.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Do you never look?
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: No.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: I always wonder that with actors.
- 27:37SPEAKER_00: I have no idea.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: I know I only have I have one movie that's 100%.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Do you know what it is?
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: It's called Night Owls.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: I think I've seen that.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: Is that the one in?
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: It's with Alita.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: It's what it's with the Alita, the battle angel.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Is that it's the one with um inside that like one house, isn't it?
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Or am I mixing it up with something else?
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, that's a good movie.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: That I have one 100.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: But I I have a bunch of clunkers on there for sure.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm I can't imagine that I have any like high ones.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: I think you do.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: I bet you do.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: No.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: What do you think?
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: Dirty let's play so let's put some money on it.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: I bet you well, I I'm not gonna pay dirty grandmouth like you said.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say, I'll Venmo you.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: I'll Venmo you 10 pounds if dirty grandma grandpa has over a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: No, you take that bet?
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: No.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I don't take that bet.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: What does pounds turn out to dollars?
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Like a hundred.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: No, I just know it's not gonna be over 40.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: You don't think?
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: No.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: I reckon that's a that's you've already looked.
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: I no, I I think it's gonna be like 30, I guess.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: 30.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: And you do this for a living.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I mean kind of 30.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: I reckon it's what I'm saying.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: 30.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: I I think this is interested.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: I think it's awesome.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be higher than Ace Matura, though.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be high.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna do that.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Should I look at it?
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: I'll Venmo you 10 pounds.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: I'll Venmo you 10 pounds if Dirty Grandpa has a higher Ven has a higher rotten tomatoes than Ace Matura.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Alright, let's do it.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Am I doing it?
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let's do it.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: I think you know it already.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Also, what's No, I don't.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I've never looked.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: I don't want to know this.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: If money wasn't on the line, I would not be knowing it.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: I won.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: 11.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Why am I happy?
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: I'm in a movie.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: I have a movie that's 100% and 11%.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: And the one with Robert De Niro is the 11%.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: That's a sad career.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: That's when you know it's time to hang up.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: Hang them up.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: You gotta give me, I don't have Venmo, you gotta give me your PayPal.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: I'll do it on the air.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Do it on the air.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: Um wow, that's surprising.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, this movie, this movie is great.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: It's a it's it's kind of like classic Zucker Brothers vibes.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good, that's a perfect description for it.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: It is very much Zuckerbrothers.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: Um he's um he where are we now?
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: He oh yeah, so he's got they're all part in his heavy, he gets the slinky, and then they cut to um the Bona the Bonai uh province in Nibia.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: And this is where the chunk of the movie takes place.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Although it was all filmed in Texas.
- 30:53SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: That's nice.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Because I looked it up, I was like, where is all of this filmed?
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And it was just like the entire it's either in Canada or Texas.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Which makes that though.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Um, and it hit they're driving through the the dru the what's the jungle, uh, um and he starts singing chitty chitty bang bang out of the car.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: And apparently he did this because he forgot his lines and he just started singing that just as a joke, and they kept it in.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Well, it's so funny.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: It's like that's right on the um that that that's so funny to me because it's right on the the the thing of like he's trying to annoy someone, like chitty bang, bang, chitty, chitty bang, bang, chitty bang, bang, I love you.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: It's so funny to me.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: It's like that scene in Dumb and Dumber that he does where he starts screaming in the car as well.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Like he's like, you want to hear the most annoying sound in the world.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Ah no, I love it.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: It's great.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Which is my favorite movie of his.
- 31:55SPEAKER_01: Um so but um the as they're driving through, they he's just like driving so fast that the car like does a flip and lands into this into the space between two other cars, which is so funny.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know, it's uh it's one of the great I mean like that they always do that.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: They beat up his car.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: Remember, that was the in the first one, the gag, where he's driving with his head out the window.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: They they do a great job with uh of those gags.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: It's just so nice to see a big, big gag.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: And then he gets out and um they get out and the consulate's there, and he like um and they uh the consulate's like whipping the horse and he grabs the whip from the from him and he whips whips him on the arse and he's like uh because what are you doing?
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh see, uh it didn't look so painful when you did it to the horse, did it?
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: So funny.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: And then he does, it's just the funniest bit the one of the funniest that scenes in for me was he um they're going through the house, that this very fancy house and everything, it's like this party going on, and he picks up all the food and like starts making a face out of it and like puts it on his fingers, and he just it's so oily, he's so oily with the asparagus, it's so oily, it's so gross.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: He has like lemons in his eyes, and uh so funny.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: I love that theme.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: And he calls this guy, he calls this other guy the Monopoly guy, who's just like this tiny, tiny guy with like this giant moustache and a monocle.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he picks he picks him up on his back.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: So first him like a scarf, right?
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: And he like he punches him in the face to knock him out and then like puts him on his back and like walks around.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: How is this movie solo?
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: How is this only a 30% from critics?
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like critics are terrible.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: 25%, it's not even 30.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: Jesus.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Well, well, yeah.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: He um uh they they start explaining the the plot uh what they're gonna do, what they need him to do, and he's like, There's a wedding in four days with the uh with the princess uh of one tribe and uh the prince of another tribe, and they they they want to make sure that this wedding goes ahead because there's a rivalry between them, but that because the bat's been missing, uh they're blaming the other tribe, basically, and they don't think now here's where I can side with the critics.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: It's a little convolutive.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: It's a little convoluted, but the main gist is that they get the matter though, when it's just gag after gag.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, because it's just let's just get him into the brush, you know.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Once he gets into that brush looking for the bat, although there's a really funny scene where he's dancing in the with uh uh like villagers at night, and that's when he puts two and two together, right?
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: That the bowl is made of of bat duty guano.
- 34:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: And that's worth like a ton of money.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: Am I remembering it correctly?
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's it.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's like near the end of the movie.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: You don't lose these things, you don't lose these things.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Did I just give away the whole movie?
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's fine.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: It's not like not like people are going, no, I now I know the ending.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: I can't hear the rest of the movie, I can't hear about the rest of this movie.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: But I mean, uh that that scene is so funny to me when he's when he's dancing and everyone's happy with him.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: That's after he's been called White Devil, right?
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Like so funny, so funny.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: So funny.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Because they also like they shape his hair to look like horns.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Great.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: And that's the only time.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Do it.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm the actor not to do it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Speak to Jim Carrey when you see him.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: 10 minutes of reboot.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: I want to take your most famous IP.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, you're not deserving.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: You don't have to be ace ventura, you can still write it and be in it.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sure, sure, sure.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: I'll be Diamond Ventura.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: Diamond Ventura.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, again, it's like all the bonds, you don't have to be that exact bond.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: You could you're just another version of the bottom.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: I could be a new ace, a new ace.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: Could you do would could you do that level of uh of like slapstick comedy?
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: My whole, I mean, that's what I don't know what else I do.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: It's all thicker and more dewy.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, you do a lot of slapstick, but you know, I think you do a lot of different like genres of comedy.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: I try to get it all in.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Um there's like a wall of animal heads, and this is that you seem very angry at all these animal heads.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Because like the guy goes, Oh, I've got something to show you, and for some reason he shows him it.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know if it's just to make him angry, or if it's just like to um I don't know, just to get in his head a little bit.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Um and then it's like uh you find out Ace hates bats as well, though.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: So he's like he's deadly afraid of bats, uh, which is the one.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Which is so funny because he's a pet boy looking for.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: And so he goes to the Wachati village and uh and he sees the guy.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: There's the guy like standing on top of a um on top of like this giant uh pole, and they say to him, it they say he's got to stand there for five days at nights balancing on there.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: So he's like grabs it and starts shaking it.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: He's like, earthquake test.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Just like and I wrote down he's such an asshole.
- 37:34SPEAKER_00: He's like, there's no reason to do that.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: To me, it's like and maybe this is something that that transcends him.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Like trans, like to me, he's Mr.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: Bean.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: He's like a version of Mr.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: Bean.
- 37:45SPEAKER_00: Yes, he's gonna be able to do it.
- 37:47SPEAKER_00: He's not an asshole.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's not an asshole.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: He's just trouble.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like everywhere he goes, something is going to happen.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: You know, something goes wrong, and then we go.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, something goes wrong wherever he goes, but he's good intentioned, and that's you know what like even when he's knocking the guy, he's doing that just to have a just to have a laugh so that everyone will laugh.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but like it's it's so it it reads really likable and funny.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean it doesn't read that badly, but like it's it's just kind of like why are you doing that?
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: What's the yeah?
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, I think now that we look at it through the lens of the white man and like the privileged white man, it doesn't look great, but he's Canadian.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: So I always kind of like that white that white is different than American white, you know?
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: It's the well-intentioned white man, yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: They're well, Canadians are still shitty, they're all passive aggressive.
- 38:42SPEAKER_01: That well, yeah, I've known some shitty Canadians, so that's true.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Canadians can be shitty.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Um that's the other thing I wanted to bring up was that Jim Carrey originally didn't want to do this movie, and he said like he was concerned about um offend people being offended by the like the basic premise of it, of like all of this stuff, and he was worried that he would come across as offensive being that character in this environment and everything, and then he eventually got convinced to do it.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Um I I think I read what convinced him.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: It was um 20 million dollars.
- 39:16SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're you're uh 20 million dollars in the in 1995.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: No, believe me, that's why he's a painter now.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: You should get one of his paintings when you when you see him.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I would love they're worth so much money.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: I would love to.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Love to.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Just Jim, just can you do me a little drawing?
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Just I do have one celebrity painting in my house.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, I have an Andy Milanakis.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Oh well.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: Did he gift that to you or did you buy it?
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he gifted it to me.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: He painted it for me, yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, cool.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: It's ter it's terri it's terrible.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: It's not that thing right behind you, is it?
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: No, no, that's that's a uh a sculpture of Chunk from the Goonies.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: That's yeah, there's my um Andy Melanakis.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: Oh, cool.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: Yes, this is my little.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Small part, big movie, as I'm known to do.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: That was a shock seeing so many of you in that.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: I was like, so I was like, oh well, we're in it.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: So many comedians, so many comics.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know there's a lot of comics in there.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Did you get uh did you audition or get offered that?
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Uh I was I'm just known Favro for a long time.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Oh nice.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: He calls me and he was like, Would you do this with a buddy of yours?
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: And I was like, sure.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: And then he's like, Who think it's gonna be this guy?
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: It might be this guy, and I was like, Okay, and then I came in for my fitting and I saw studs and I was like, Word, let's go to let's go do it.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, great.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: That's that must be so much fun to be a part of.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, I've been a small part of a lot of really cool big things, and that's really that's a fun, that's a fun thing to have in my resume.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: I think that's a nice thing as well, because you don't have to like do too much, but you're still there and get to appreciate it.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: You know, I think I think a good actor is able to ride waves of of big and small and just kind of keep doing their work and hopefully keep showing up and stuff.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: And next up, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which is exciting.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Just like I've planned it.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, big movies and well reviewed, so wouldn't complain.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't worry about it.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not complaining, I'm not worried.
- 41:43SPEAKER_00: I am worried, but I'm not complaining.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: Worried, but like about separate things.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, no, I'm gonna fire my agents after this conversation, but yes.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: Hey, you you agree to do this uh without going through your agents.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: This has been enlightening.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: Really a look, a look back at many wasted opportunities.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: There's no wasted opportunities.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: No, I'm kidding.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: I'm kidding.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: Love it, I love everything.
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: Uh so yeah, again, this is where you find out about oh no, you so first of all, they do the spit, uh he's but the chief spits in his face, and you find out as a sign of affection.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: Love the spit gag, and then they all come out with the loot with the very that was something about Mary esque.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: It's so disgusting.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: And while we're on, you know, I will say Jim Carrey did a lot of great work with the uh uh Farley brothers.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: He did, he did, yeah.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: I feel like this scene was the beginning of that type of gross humor where it was like, yeah, we're gonna really get we're gonna go for the gags.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because it came right.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: I guess this is like a year before Kingpin as well, sort of like it's right before they started all their kind of grossed out humor movies, the Farley Brothers.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_01: Um it probably paved the way for them a lot, um especially getting him involved in in those movies.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: Um well, he did the first one, the Farley Brothers Dumb and Dumber, was the first.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're right.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: He had already done it already.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: You're right, sorry.
- 43:12SPEAKER_00: I completely forgot.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: This was like a carryover from that.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then he did Me, Myself, and I Irene, which I think is an underrated movie.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: It is, yeah, it's a good movie.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: And uh I think he did one more with the Farley Brothers.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: Am I missing one?
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: But because something about Mary Lee was not him.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: No, that was between yeah.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: That was like between Stiller.
- 43:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Stiller.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: That was Stiller and Kingpin was Bill Murray.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Um and so like, but yeah, it's a it's a disgusting scene.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: They get covered, they all come out covered in in like in spit and like just all over their faces.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: It's all like stuck, you see like drops stuck all over their bodies, all over their faces and everything.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: It's quite disgusting, yeah.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: And then ace uh And then they find he talks about the sacred ground and and like do not go near it.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: And Ace like steps on it while he's not looking.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Just anything like that is set up, Ace is going to shoot through.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: You know, that's like his he's there's a lot of like dumb American stuff in here that I really love.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like this was don't tell me what I can't do, I'm gonna do it.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: Or just I'm just not even gonna pay attention to that sign because I need to go there.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: But you find out about this, this is when you find out about the uh the great white bat, the shicaca and the uh the the shikaka, which like all these all these terms, um they they were so big in my childhood, like guano, shikaka, like I spoke like that.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: I still do, I'm sure.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: Fuck yes, for sure.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: You know, for sure.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: Well, so what was he your biggest inspiration in like your teenage years?
- 45:02SPEAKER_01: Was he like your formative like comedic inspiration?
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: Yes, I mean, yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: My my preteen years, yeah.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Because right, because he he got he was big, and then Sandler like at the same time was a little edgier, yeah.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: You know, it was like a little more frat boyish, a little older, and so I really started loving Sandler, and then by the time I was like a little older, Sandler started falling off a little, like once I got to college and whatnot, it became a little softer, movies became kind of like and that's and and so yeah, but like before preteen, steady diet of Gene Wilder, Steve Martin.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: That was like it in my house.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: That's all I watched, and then and then it turned into Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler, Chris Farley.
- 45:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, of course.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: I was yeah, I think Chris Farley kind of like was just a little bit before my time, and then like San look Sandler was probably the big one for me, from what I remember.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: Um, just like influencing so much of like what I was listening like watching and listening to around that time, and like Jim Carrey to an extent as well.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: But again, like he kind of like slightly moved into the serious roles at that point.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but Jim Carrey was goofy, you know, like Jim Carrey is a clown when when he's at his best, and it's great, it's beautiful, the clown is amazing.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: Sandler is more of a uh he's got this kind of like frustrated every man.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, that's why a lot of his movies are about like he finds a bunch of money and doesn't know what to do with it.
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: You know, like whereas Jim Carrey movies were like solving a puzzle, you know, like he played the Riddler.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: There was a little bit more of like a um uh like a like a you know, like a Charlie Chaplin-esque character to Jim Carrey.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: It was a little more like um fantastic.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: He's not an everyman, you know, he's in sort of special.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, so it was interesting.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: Um he uh the the he sits down with the tribe, and there's like uh this is when he gets the uh the the princess doing the Virgin's dance of seduction to him.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: And uh, right, yeah.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Played by Sokor Canada.
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: And she must have been so young in this as well.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: I wonder if it yeah.
- 47:25SPEAKER_00: Because she's younger.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: Why don't we blow past this so no one gets cancelled?
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: I'm just kidding.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: No, you're right.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: It's very how old was she in that?
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: No, I don't mean like she was underage, I mean she just fits been like young and she I don't know, she's probably like 18 to 20 years old in this, if what I feel like.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, given what happens.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: Um but they um so she she's she seduces him, and then you find then she's like talking about how she tells him how she's a um she's never been with a man before, but she's getting married, and she's like very nervous because she has to consummate the marriage um once they get married.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: Um and and then Ace, and it's like you wonder if Ace is gonna show her how it's done.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: And he's like, oh no, I'm celibate.
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: I'm a I don't I don't know about that.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm a monk.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: And then it cuts to him like masturbating.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: There's the masturbation scene, yeah.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: And they won't want the ace if there's nothing Ace Inter does better than getting the monkey to bop its head at a sex or masturbation scene.
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they really carry that through the whole franchise.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Well, it's it's really funny because then uh Fulton walks in on him and he's like he's like, oh uh give me five minutes, just get out of here.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: Love a good, love a good comedic masturbation intro.
- 48:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: He teaches the princess how to do he was a spitball.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: Uh he uh oh and she like all right and they and they and they shoot the spitballs at the guy that's at the Yeah.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: And then they like do the thing where like they're about to kiss and they both stick their tongues out, and as he's touching the tongue, he like pulls it away and then he tells her I can't do it.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: And it's just like it's really, really like disgusting.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: You just see like two tongues just leering at each other, just for there was a weird like you know, infantilization with like sex in the 90s movies where it was like, I don't know if that would be maybe they would now, but it was like they there was something humorous about two tongues touching, you know.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know what that was.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: It's just like we've come such a long way now that I don't think that would get a laugh.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: No, it's just it doesn't get a laugh.
- 49:49SPEAKER_01: I don't think I don't feel like it gets a laugh, but it's just kind of like, uh, okay.
- 49:53SPEAKER_01: This is Yeah, it's weird.
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: It's a weird, it's a weird choice.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: So he got any, but like so he rejects that, he goes and masturbates, and then he like goes in, they make him go and expect the cave, and he goes in there.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: Well, first of all, he's not gonna go in there and because he he makes some excuse about oh, I can't see, I'm not gonna see, and then the the guy gives him scared of bats, right?
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: And this is then he comes running out, yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Because first of all, the guy gives him the fire to go like walk in, he gives him the torch to go walk in, and he goes in, and again, that performance is amazing.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: And he like he throws his medallion at the bats, first of all.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: And then he like he's supposed to keep the medallion.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's supposed to keep the medallion on him at all points, and then he like float he he like flings his fire his torch at them and he like put the torch goes out and he runs out because it's pitch black and he's scared, and they're like, There's nothing on you, Ace.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: Don't worry, like, why are you so scared?
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: And then he realizes he's got to go to the safari park uh to go and like train with the animals to be like to to um take over and everything.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: So he goes to so they start playing secret agent man, which is just like such a common thing in the 90s to have playing in a movie as a secret agent man, I feel like it plays so much.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: This you know what was weird about Ace Ventura was I wonder where Mike Myers and Austin Powers falls into the timeline of Ace Ventura, you know what I mean?
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: Like what was influenced by what?
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure Ace Ventura was before, right?
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: Or was Austin Powers?
- 51:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Austin Powers was 97.
- 51:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: So it was just after this.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: It was like only a couple of years after this.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: But I know yeah, that's a good point as well.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Like it's very there's a lot of similar things.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:40SPEAKER_00: Well, because it's it's it's it's always a fun comedic um convention for your dumb leading man to be to have a position of great stakes and power.
- 51:49SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like Peter Sellers, you know, is the prime example.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: You know, that's why the Pink Panther is funny.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: It's like yeah, you're putting someone who's dumb in this position of great stakes.
- 52:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: So I feel like in the mid-90s, especially, we went back to that where we were like, let's do that.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: And then Sandler and Seth Rogan actually changed that completely.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Let's put let's put our comedic leading men in a in a in a situation of no stakes, yeah, you know, and then let them find the stakes.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: And it's like a it's like it's a reversal almost.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: Not that we're dissecting time and comedic male performances.
- 52:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, but I do wonder like what it's gonna go to now.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: I wonder what like what what the start is going to be.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: It's female, a female, a f female driven for sure.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: But the but that's not enough.
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: Like you need to know the character of the female now.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, like bridesmaids area.
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: Bridesmaids almost changed it.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: What it almost liked it a little because the character, but the character was still about this like always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: It was never the confident, dumb Melissa McCarthy changed it.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's true.
- 52:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but I don't know what the next one is.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: Because she did spied, and that was kind of like the also Yeah, but she did one that I liked.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: I like I really like the heat.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: That was my favorite.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, the heat is great.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: That was my favorite Melissa McCarthy.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I actually agree.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Um, I do, yeah.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: It's I wonder if it's gonna go through a I I hope it doesn't just go through a like a female phase of like um doing the same as what the males did.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: I hope they do change it enough so it's just like there's something new to it now.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: Because it's I I yeah, yeah.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 53:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I it could be like a cockold.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: I mean could work.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Uh but yeah, so this is where uh uh Ace trains with all the animals, and so you get all you get the like the great animatronic animatronic work here.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Um of all of them, he you get all of them, and he's like inside a right of robot rhino, and he's like moving forward.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: This is the best scene of all time.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: It's this is on they're gonna they're gonna play the scene in entirety when he dies on the Academy Award.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: Really well.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I wouldn't be surprised.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: It's high art.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: It is high art.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: Think of how depressed we all are right now.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: Think of that stakes of the world.
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: Thank God Jim Carrey climbed out of that rhinoceros' ass.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: It's so great.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: So disgusting and so funny.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: So he gets stuck in.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: It may be the best comedic, physical comedy scene of all time, that or Leonardo DiCaprio getting into the Ferrari.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: Those are the two best physical comedic scenes of all time, in my opinion.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: Those are great, yeah.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: They're both so good.
- 54:45SPEAKER_01: And like he but he like hit so first of all, he's listening into this conversation going on with the uh with the consulate, and he's like, um, he's trying to work out what's going on, and he can he can barely hear them.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: Uh and they know they don't even notice this rhino is behind them, like creeping up.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: First of all, it's great.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: Um and then he's like getting so hot that he has to strip down completely naked in there because his fan stops working.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: And then when they leave, he goes to get out and he can't get out of it, and the wheel breaks, the the door handle breaks off the door, and so he has to creep out of the the arse of the rhino, he like breaks through, and as he's breaking through, these these like this safari uh guide is going past, and all these tourists are looking and they're like, Oh, look, a rhino is giving birth, and he like crawls out and it's a human.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: It's a human, one of the best gags of all time.
- 55:39SPEAKER_01: Oh like have you seen uh pen 15?
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: Because they recently did um like a callback.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: I heard it's great.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: I gotta watch it.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: It's it's I don't think it's a spoiler to tell you about this, but like they um so one of the so you know how it's set in like I don't know if you know, it's set in like 2000 or something like that.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: And so like obviously they're obsessed with Jim Carrey or whatever, and there's a scene where like they go to a sleepover and one of them brings the other one in like a in like a duffel bag, and she crawls out and does the same thing, just and she's so obsessed, and all the other kids are like, what the hell are you doing?
- 56:13SPEAKER_01: She's like, It's Jim Carrey, come on.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: Oh man, I gotta see that.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: It's so funny.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: And she does the does the exact face that he does as well.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: It's so good.
- 56:25SPEAKER_01: Um I'd only seen that like a week previous to this again, so it's just like, oh, this is perfect.
- 56:31SPEAKER_01: I remember I do remember this.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: It's the one scene that I remember so well from this movie.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: I'd never forgotten it.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: Um and then uh Spike tases uh Burton, the uh the consulate.
- 56:48SPEAKER_02: He tases Oh no, it's not the consulate, it's Bert Burton is a different guy, isn't he?
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: Burton is like uh another English guy.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: Is he the bad guy?
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: He's like who you think is the bad guy originally, but he's just like a a low, he's just like a lower level guy.
- 57:05SPEAKER_01: Um the monkey tases him and then they kidnap him, and Ace tries to like Ace Ace does this thing of like torturing him, and he tortures him by like he he he's got a knife in his hand, you think, oh what's he gonna do?
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: And he grab he gets another he gets the fork out and he starts like scratching it on the plate.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: It's such it's such infantile humor, but it's so funny.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: And then he like grabs his eye and like starts poking himself in the eye, and that's like that's what gets him Oh, that's such a horrible scene to watch too.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: Because you know he's really doing it as well.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: You you wear glasses, and I I wear glasses, and I I anytime I'm on set and I have to wear contact, I can't wear contacts.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: I hate doing it, I don't like doing it.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: So I remember it's so upsetting watching him do that as a little kid when you're like, oh, I can't even bear to do it.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: I can't wear contacts because I can't even like bear to do it.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't want it.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: It makes me it makes me like nauseous, it makes my skin crawl.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: Anything with eyes is just horrible, but yeah, he's like he's and it really zooms in on him.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: He's like fully poking himself in the eye, and and that's what gets the guy to like admit what's going on and everything.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: And so like he uh you find out that he paid uh Derek McCain to find the bat uh who's like I think it's the Australian guys.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: Um and so Ace runs out, uh no, sorry, Ace gets chucked, Ace lets him go, and then they get they chuck Ace into the for into the jungle again.
- 58:29SPEAKER_00: And I always thought the bad guy in this was Bob Balaban, but it's not, right?
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: No, Bob Balaban's not in this.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: He does look like him, though.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: But it looks like him, yeah.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's some English guy.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: Um Ace gets hit by the poison darts at this point, though.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: No, that's a good one.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: That's a funny one.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: He's dragging his.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: I have ripped off so much Jim Carrey in my life.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: I should I I I owe him an apology.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: I gotta send him a letter.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: Um and then the print then he wakes up and the princess is taking care of him, and you find out that it's the um the Wachutu shaman that would have done it.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: And so he goes to the Wachutos, uh, which is the rival uh uh the rival uh what they called um tribe, and they he puts on the mask to blend in with them because they've all got face paint on, and he starts dancing along with all of them.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: This is the yeah, yeah.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: And this is when you see Tommy Davidson.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: This is that great scene.
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: Now, what happens after this scene?
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: Because this scene is so great, right?
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: We talked a lot about it, like where he comes out of the the bag, but where do they go?
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: This is where I I have like a blank spot in the movie.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: What happens next?
- 59:54SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: Like what happens after the the dancing and yeah, because they they face off and then he's they have the circle of death, yeah.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: He would yeah, he gets the circle of death, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, and he gets the he gets stabbed in both, he gets the spear in one leg from Tommy Davidson, which is hilarious.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: And then uh and then he says, he says, uh, throw me the other spear, and he gets the other sphere thrown in his other leg.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: And so he starts to start screaming, and because they they're like, Oh, he's so pathetic.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: Let's they all find him by there.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_00: He's like a clown, yeah.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: So they like um, then he like they let him go basically, and uh they throw it, they throw another dart at him, and that's when he like is stabbed by the dart, and then he realizes the two dots are different.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_01: They're both very different.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: This is a big moment.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_01: So that's why he um he realizes oh, it's it's not them, it's some it's someone else.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: And he like goes he ru so they like go to the Australians, uh, they have the bat, and he lures them away with a gorilla noise, but then they like capture him immediately because they know instantly what he's doing.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: Um and they throw him, they throw him and they tie him and Spike to a like a raft, and he like goes, he's like about to fall down a waterfall, and Spike lets him Spike gets out and like leaves him to fall over the waterfall.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: That's a funny bit, yeah.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_01: And he wrestles- He survives, he's yeah, he survives, and then he's like, and then he's about to get out and he sees a crocodile and he starts wrestling it for some reason.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: There's like no real reason he just wrestles a crocodile.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: Um but it's a good trailer moment, yeah.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_01: And he's like trying to figure out what to do, and he's like, Um, I'm gonna meditate for the answer.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_01: And he meditates and he like he uh like uh is he's visualizing uh the monks, the original monk, and the monk tells him uh where's your medallion, monk asks him, where's your medallion?
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_01: And he says, Oh, I threw it in the back in the uh in the cave.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: And that's when he realizes, oh wait, the medallion is in the cave.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_01: That's where the guavo is.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: That's what the that's what they're after.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: Guano.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: Guano.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Guano, sorry, yeah.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_01: And so he confronts the consulate with his plan, and Ace is like, um, and he finds out Ace was used as an alibi for like getting away with everything, because he's like, You'll never get away with all this, and he's like, No, I call I got you to do this so that it looked like we did everything we did.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: It's actually really a very good script in that way.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: There is, yeah, it's because you don't I that's not what I thought was gonna happen, to be honest.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you know what the another place where the critics are wrong.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know what?
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: There is a lot of plot to this.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: And he go so Ace uh calls on Ace like uh is about to like have the police come after him and everything, and he's gonna go to jail, and then he calls the elephant, he like whistles down the elephant, and the elephant like knocks over the police car and everything, and he gets away on the elephant, and all the animals swarm the office and like uh smash everything up and everything.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_01: Fulton knocks out the consulate, ace sprays the uh the assistance with like skunks and oh yeah, it's just so there's so many animals in this scene, it's ridiculous.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: This movie, whoever was the the animal wrangler on this movie deserves a retroactive Oscar.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, like again, like stump work and animal work.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: If you can you can get Oscars for those, it's on point, yeah.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_01: And then the consulate drives away, and Ace gets into a monster truck somehow.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: He like finds a monster truck there, and he like chases.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_00: Oh no, no, the monster truck was from the Australian thugs who were chasing it.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_01: I just don't remember the music.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: I didn't remember the music at all.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_01: I I know my ace.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_01: I know my ace.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_01: You know it, you've seen it recently, you know it.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: And then you so ace chases-I have Ace throws um chases after him, and he like gets the like the cigarette lighter from the car, and he throws it into the into the guy, and he like burns himself.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: Love that bit.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: Love that bit.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_01: It's great because he just lands on his on his crotch and he's just like, ah, ah, getting burned everywhere.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_01: You start seeing like all these burn marks all over him, and he uh crashes straight into a tree, and Ace grabs the bat and like runs away with it.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: He's terrified, he's like, if I've got because he really he realizes it's it's midday and he has to get back right on time, otherwise it's gonna, there's gonna be like a a war between these two tribes.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: And so he's like, he runs, he runs back to the tribes with the bat, and as they're doing that, the two tribes are about to fight each other, and he runs in the middle and returns the bat.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Um and a and the consulate thinks he's gonna get away, and a gorilla grabs him, and then you see like the gorilla in the bushes, you see like a bush shaking with the gorilla and the consulate.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: So you're like, oh, I know what's going on now.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: The a little a little uh the revenant, yeah.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_01: A little PG version of the revenant.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_01: Um so the princess gets married, uh, it all goes well.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: Princess get married to Tommy Davidson, I think, as well.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: It's Tommy Davidson, isn't it?
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_01: Um and then they go to consummate the marriage, and he goes inside, and then the and then Tommy Davidson comes out, and he's like, um, they're all like, what's wrong?
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_01: The princess is not a virgin.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_01: And so they all chase, they look at Ace and they chase him straight out of there, and then it ends going.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_01: That's where we end, right?
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: That's the end of the movie.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_01: God, they gotta do an Ace and turret three.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_00: They gotta do an Ace and turret three.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_01: They do, and I think he'd be up for it now.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_00: I think he would definitely I'm gonna talk to him about it.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_00: I think at this point, it'd be so great to have another one.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_00: It's the first thing I'm gonna say to him when I get to Vancouver.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_00: First thing I say.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_00: I I really hope you do say something.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_00: So you and me, pal, we gotta talk.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_00: I've got to.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: Script ready for you.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: You got like a month to write.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_00: I haven't written anything.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: Just get a pitch, get a pitch document ready.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: I'm an idea man, Jim.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_00: My idea, the third's the third movie.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_01: That's all I got so far.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: Probably haven't heard one of this good in a while.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_01: Ace Ventura three.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: Don't have a title yet.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's like it is a funny movie, and I don't I don't think it should be rated.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: Even coming into before Kamel's coming into it, I was like, when I was about to talk to you today, I was like, oh, I didn't enjoy it.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_01: Then talking to you about it and all these things, I was like, oh mate, actually, I didn't, you know what?
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_00: I did actually enjoy it.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_00: That's because comedy is meant to be what is comedy is communal.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: You know, story, story is is individual, right?
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_00: Like you read a book and you're following the plot of the story, and your mind can keep the linear knowledge of what is going to happen to these people.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_00: But communally, when you're in a place with people, behavior is funny.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: And and the most comedies are behavior-based.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_00: And they don't want to solve a problem.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_00: They want to keep the character having to live in it.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: So it's like, where do you put Ace Mentura that would be the most dangerous?
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_00: In the middle of two warring tribes in the in the brush in Africa.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_00: Where would you?
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_00: So you know, like that is how comedy works.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_00: I feel like the reason that you don't see it like it that much anymore is because we can't watch it together.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_00: So we're like we're relegated to this weird form of like non-comedy, you know, which is like not even, you know, it's kind of there's kind of jokes, I guess, but yeah, you know, it's it's it doesn't feel as big, you know.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_00: Like when you when you've when you saw the old school in movie theater and and people were laughing together, it's like a huge eruption.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: And that's what this movie was for me.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_00: Like, regardless of what the credits thought, my friends and I went crazy at this movie.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_01: That actually, like, that's a good point because I remember uh just to compare it to something like I remember seeing the original Borat and being finding it so funny.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_01: Seeing this next one, yeah, and then seeing the next one, there's this new one, watching it alone, still finding it very funny, and but like not in the same way.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: Then I went it wouldn't have been that way, yeah.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: But then I watched it with a with a few people, and it was so much funnier.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, yeah, that's because we're all enjoying it.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: Right, and you're and and you're not, you're not when you're alone, you need to be cerebrally like your mind needs to focus on on consequence when you're alone because you're like, well, how much longer can this take?
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: You know, and that's why Saturday Night Live is a great example of like communally, we're all watching it at 11:30.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, it's at Saturday night.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_00: It's live, so we're all watching it.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_00: So we can watch a behavior.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_00: We don't need to know what's gonna happen to these characters in this in the sketch.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_00: We're watching their behavior, yeah.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_00: And so it's like it's so it's different, it's a different type of movie making and it's a different type of entertainment, you know.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_00: Um, they don't do much like it anymore, but I wish they did.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe you've got to be the person to bring it back.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_00: I would love to.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_00: Do you have a billion dollars?
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_00: I'm just sitting on a billion dollars waiting to see what to do with it.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_00: I can tell by the art in your house and the blank and the blank whiteboard, which is my favorite, my favorite uh bit of furniture that you have.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_00: If ever there was uh uh an analogy for oh, the shame.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_00: But thank you so much for having me.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate it.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thanks so much for doing this.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: Well, we have one more segment before the end of this.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, no, uh go for it.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: Uh just before the just to ed before we end this, um the uh so it's the reverse of this.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: Do you have I'm sure you've got one.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: Um, do you have a a movie that was well loved by the critics and and fans that you do you think is a bad movie?
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_00: Um I know it's harder to say because you're like kind of in the industry as well.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_00: I don't want to, yeah, like I would never, it's so hard to make a movie.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_00: I would never like yeah, I I guess, yeah, I have one.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: Braveheart fucking sucks.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_00: Yes, it does.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: Braveheart sucks.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_00: This shitty movie made a shitty filmmaker.
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was gonna say you're safe saying it with about him, so I wouldn't worry about that.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that one's fine.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_00: I think Braveheart is a fucking mess.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_00: And I think most of his movies are.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_00: What so what is bad about it then, like other than he made it?
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_00: Well, I just think it's one of those movies that's like it really is like the the top of like the early 90 white man, you know, like war movie that you really like, what was William Watt Wallace fighting for?
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_00: Like what what was he what was what did he want?
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_00: A free what?
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_00: Like he wasn't fighting for anyone's because they were being religiously persecuted.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_00: He wasn't it's like John Wick.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_00: You know, basically like someone killed his family and now he's pissed.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_00: You know, and he's hunting for revenge.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_00: But there's nothing to it.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's not like Robin Hood doing anything good.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_00: He's just a guy that's been wronged, and then he gets to have sex again.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_00: Some hot chick, you know, it's like it and we have we have to why we just sit through that.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like it's like the it's like the it's just a bad movie, you know, and there are like some cool parts and it's shot well and like the face paint and whatever, and like we'll talk about it for but like what is the value of maybe I don't know it because I'm not English, but like what is the value of that character?
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_00: What is he fighting for?
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know, and I really don't like I agree with you though, right?
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_01: It's I don't I haven't seen it in a long time, but yeah, so I don't remember, I don't fully remember.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_00: It's like a war movie, yeah, with no like you watch like oh you watch like Saving Part of Ryan Ryan or something, or like Schindler's List or whatever.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, that's a movie from a filmmaker about something, yeah.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_00: It's about it's not just it's not it's not just about the Holocaust, it's about what happened.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_00: It's like it's it's about more than that.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_00: It's about you know what is Braveheart about fucking Gaelic songs and shit?
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_00: Like, fucking what is it about that sucks?
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: I think it's remembered for one scene as well.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_01: I don't think people remember the rest of the movie.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_00: It's one good speech, right?
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but like whatever.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_00: Animal House has a good speech.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_00: Sucks.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_00: Movie sucks, maybe an anti-sunite.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_00: They should take his Oscars back.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_01: They really should, and like I can't believe he's still gonna work.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_01: I know I can't believe he's still getting work.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, I can believe it, but yeah, you know, crazy.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_00: He's still getting work in whatever.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_00: I but anyway, anyway.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_00: Go and make Ace McChow.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_00: Happy Hanukkah, happy Hanukkah.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me again.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thanks so much for doing this.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: Uh before you go, do you um do you have anything you want to plug?
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: Oh like how God no.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_01: Nothing you want to plug.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_00: No, I mean, watch well, you know what?
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_00: I I I do have one thing that I feel like a lot of people haven't seen that I love is called Champagne Ill, which is on YouTube.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_00: Uh so it's if you can find it, go watch that because I think it's good.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_00: And it's it's it's the comedy that I love.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_00: It's a really good show.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_00: Thanks, man.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_00: Well, thanks so much for doing this, Adam.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_00: Anytime.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_00: And and again, uh Ace Centro 2 is a Criterion collection.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we'll put it on Criterion.
