- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, my name is Parks, and this is Ben. We
- 0:02Speaker 1: play in the band All Them Witches from Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
- 0:06Speaker 2: So how does it feel to be coming out here
- 0:07Speaker 2: for the very first.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Time, guys? We're stoked. Have you been there before?
- 0:12Speaker 3: I went a long time ago for fun, but I'm
- 0:18Speaker 3: glad to be back. It's going to be a fun time.
- 0:22Speaker 4: What do you guys like when you tour a country
- 0:24Speaker 4: for the first time? Do you do your research and
- 0:27Speaker 4: talk to people about what to expect, or would you
- 0:28Speaker 4: rather come in cold?
- 0:31Speaker 3: Probably cold.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think cold. I mean, I like to pick
- 0:35Speaker 1: up enough to not be totally lost in a country,
- 0:38Speaker 1: but we all speak English, so I'm sure it'll be
- 0:40Speaker 1: all right getting around Australia.
- 0:44Speaker 3: I just can't wait to eat the meat pies over
- 0:47Speaker 3: there again.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they're good.
- 0:49Speaker 4: They don't make them anywhere else like they do there.
- 0:58Speaker 1: What's the secret what's the secret of an australian meat
- 1:00Speaker 1: pie compared to other.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Places they're a lot smaller they're really good and an
- 1:04Speaker 3: empanada uh just like yeah like a like a little
- 1:08Speaker 3: pie but they're they're super good um i'm excited to
- 1:14Speaker 3: be in melbourne in adelaide i i haven't been there
- 1:19Speaker 3: yet so.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Nice you're gonna have a great time It's an incredibly
- 1:25Speaker 4: diverse lineup this year at Good Things. You've got everyone
- 1:27Speaker 4: from Limp Bizkit, Spiritbox, Mill and Colin, Ministry, Simple Plan,
- 1:31Speaker 4: Alexis on Firelight. Everyone's sort of coming from different parts
- 1:35Speaker 4: of the genre pool, guys. So where do you think
- 1:37Speaker 4: all them witches fit into the scheme of things?
- 1:41Speaker 3: Um.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Well, when I first saw this lineup, I saw Polaris
- 1:44Speaker 1: and I was stoked because I thought it was Polaris
- 1:47Speaker 1: from Pete and Pete.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I was like, oh, no way. It's the Pete and
- 1:52Speaker 1: Pete band, but it's not. It's an Australian band, right?
- 1:55Speaker 2: Yeah, they are, yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Okay, well, good luck to you guys. I'm sad that
- 2:01Speaker 1: you're not a part of my favorite TV show as
- 2:04Speaker 1: a kid.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 3: But um you're smiling strange you're looking happily yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Exactly yeah so i don't know we probably fall somewhere
- 2:12Speaker 1: between ministry and all all american rejects.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Yeah sweet so it's a massive day of music guys
- 2:19Speaker 4: so what sorts of things do you do to make
- 2:21Speaker 4: sure you hit the stage running come set.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Time um siggy's right uh To like make sure that
- 2:31Speaker 3: we're like on time or just like stuff we do.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Just to make sure you're pumped up and ready to go.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Oh, man. We give each other a big high five
- 2:41Speaker 3: and sometimes hugs. And I don't know. We just kind
- 2:47Speaker 3: of stand there and just wait.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Honestly, we're not like jumping around backstage or doing pushups
- 2:52Speaker 1: or anything. It's like quick high five, go on stage,
- 2:56Speaker 1: do the thing. We're not that superstitious. Yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I like to, about mid-set, I look forward to my
- 3:05Speaker 3: post-show beer.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:08Speaker 3: It's pretty fun.
- 3:10Speaker 1: About mid-set, you're like, oh, man, that beer's going to
- 3:12Speaker 1: taste really good.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I know.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Yeah, and the shower. The shower's going to feel really good.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Although we're probably playing during the day, so.
- 3:20Speaker 2: It'll be bloody hot.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Maybe I'll just be drinking all day.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I don't know. That's probably the best thing to do
- 3:25Speaker 2: in Australia.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Haven't done that in a couple years, but it'll be fun.
- 3:29Speaker 4: One of the beautiful things about festivals is the fact
- 3:33Speaker 4: that you get to see so many different bands that
- 3:34Speaker 4: you might not see before. So just say someone's seeing
- 3:38Speaker 4: All Them Witches for the first time, like what three
- 3:40Speaker 4: songs should they listen to in order to get to
- 3:42Speaker 4: know what you expect to be better?
- 3:46Speaker 1: Diamond.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Diamond, Culling Line off the new album. And then
- 3:53Speaker 3: maybe like Enemy of My Enemy.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a heavy one. Something like See You Next Fall.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Kind of like do the heavy song, the kind of
- 4:04Speaker 1: jammy song. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So maybe those three.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Great, nice.
- 4:13Speaker 4: And alongside good things, you've also lined up a couple
- 4:15Speaker 4: of headline shows, right?
- 4:16Speaker 2: So with your set list, does.
- 4:18Speaker 4: It get heavier or looser or more experimental when you've
- 4:22Speaker 4: got the freedom of a headline club show versus.
- 4:24Speaker 3: A free club show? Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Like festivals. I mean, it's people coming to see a
- 4:30Speaker 3: festival like we try to do a good bit of
- 4:33Speaker 3: like weird like jamming stuff. But I mean, I'd.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Say our heaviest sets are at festivals.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Usually like the biggest, fastest, most engaging songs. We we
- 4:46Speaker 1: so like a festival set will usually be pretty heavy
- 4:48Speaker 1: for us as a club show can go any sort
- 4:51Speaker 1: of which way it could be like a really chill night.
- 4:53Speaker 1: or like a jam night or whatever. But yeah, I
- 4:57Speaker 1: think as far as like going to a club, you
- 4:59Speaker 1: have a lot of different options, but a festival, you're
- 5:01Speaker 1: pretty much going to see us hitting it as hard
- 5:03Speaker 1: as we can.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Oh yeah.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And from what I saw, both of those shows are
- 5:07Speaker 2: sold out as well. Inside shows must be a pretty good.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Feeling, like a couple of months out from even coming
- 5:12Speaker 4: here and your shows are sold out.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Congrats.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Kind of makes me think we should have booked more.
- 5:19Speaker 2: True that. Keep them wanting more, mate. Get them to
- 5:22Speaker 2: get you back out here again soon.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Yep.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Guys, your latest album, House of Mirrors, has been out
- 5:31Speaker 2: for a little bit now, guys. But what sort of
- 5:33Speaker 2: songs from that are you going to be playing live?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Is it much of the album?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we do Starting Line, Culling Line. We do a
- 5:42Speaker 1: lot of it. I'd say there's maybe like three songs
- 5:45Speaker 1: that we don't do off of it. So we pretty
- 5:48Speaker 1: much will... play the whole album over the course of
- 5:51Speaker 1: a few sets. So, yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Were there any songs on that that went down better
- 5:59Speaker 4: live than you thought they would or maybe didn't go
- 6:01Speaker 4: down quite the same way you.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Thought they would?
- 6:05Speaker 3: Ethernet, I think, turned out better live after a couple tours.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I feel like we have it locked down now and
- 6:15Speaker 3: then one that absolutely We've fallen on our ass on
- 6:22Speaker 3: live as Walter Waite. So it's not in the set.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah. It's funny. They go through phases. Sometimes they're fun
- 6:32Speaker 1: and easy to play and they bring you joy. And
- 6:34Speaker 1: sometimes they're just bastards.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah. If we get pissed off about a song, it's like, no.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Strike it.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Maybe next door. Like, don't even push it.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Yeah. Cool. You guys have always been a band who
- 6:49Speaker 4: don't fit neatly into one genre.
- 6:51Speaker 2: You've got a lot of styles in there. There's bluesy
- 6:55Speaker 2: sort of stuff. There's psychedelic. There's heavy rock. People call
- 6:57Speaker 2: it stoner rock. Is that a deliberate thing?
- 7:00Speaker 4: When you go in the studio, do you set out
- 7:02Speaker 4: to make music like that, or is it more just
- 7:04Speaker 4: a byproduct of the four of you jamming together?
- 7:08Speaker 1: I honestly feel... Like I've had so many experiences with
- 7:12Speaker 1: bands where it's like you get a record and you're like, wow,
- 7:14Speaker 1: this is very cool. The next one. Wow. Very cool.
- 7:17Speaker 1: The third one. It's a lot of the same. And
- 7:20Speaker 1: then it's like, man, OK, like these guys are in
- 7:22Speaker 1: a genre.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Right.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And this is they're playing to their genre. We never
- 7:26Speaker 1: really we bounced around to so many different kinds of shows.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Like we were playing with bluegrass people and country people
- 7:34Speaker 1: and heavy and guys on guitar, you know, like acoustic guitars.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And we like all of that music and we never
- 7:41Speaker 1: were afraid to try to incorporate it into the songs
- 7:44Speaker 1: because if it's cool and it works, then it works.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So there's, there's no cutting stuff because it's like, it
- 7:49Speaker 1: doesn't sound like us. Right. So if, if, if, if
- 7:53Speaker 1: we make it, it sounds like us.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Along those lines, like in the creative process, like how
- 7:58Speaker 4: do you know when you've gone too far in one direction, maybe,
- 8:01Speaker 4: or not far another, like what's the gauge?
- 8:05Speaker 3: I don't think, unfortunately we haven't, We haven't found that
- 8:10Speaker 3: out yet, but that's going to be fun when we do. Like, whoa,
- 8:14Speaker 3: maybe we should scale it back there.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Maybe on what we're doing now, but I doubt it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Maybe so.
- 8:24Speaker 4: After this Australian run wraps up, guys, we're almost at Christmas,
- 8:28Speaker 4: so are you guys going to take a bit of
- 8:29Speaker 4: time off at the end of the year, or are
- 8:31Speaker 4: you booked pretty solid?
- 8:34Speaker 3: We have a couple months off after Australia, so.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good. We'll see, spend the holidays around family
- 8:44Speaker 1: and then hit the road sometime in the spring, probably.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Fantastic, guys.
- 8:48Speaker 4: All right, well, thanks very much for your time this morning.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Been a pleasure chatting with you. All them witches are
- 8:51Speaker 4: at Good Things Festival. You can't get to their sideshows
- 8:54Speaker 4: because they're sold out, but get Good Things tickets and
- 8:57Speaker 4: you get to see them there.
