- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome to the first episode of Not Another Football Podcast
- 0:08Speaker 1: with me, Simoned Only and Jack and we're delighted to
- 0:12Speaker 1: have as a very first guest from filling manager Celtic
- 0:17Speaker 1: legend you winning.
- 0:17Speaker 2: How you doing. I'm all the honored.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Pressure making my debut, brilliant pressure, all the pressures on YouTube.
- 0:26Speaker 2: That good.
- 0:28Speaker 4: So how things are very good?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, really busy.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Well, we've got into the nasal break now, so we've
- 0:34Speaker 3: got three or four of the players aware, but coming
- 0:36Speaker 3: back in the April were sort of Tuesday Saturday right
- 0:40Speaker 3: up until the end of April, so we're going, like
- 0:43Speaker 3: I mean there in the semi final couple, which is
- 0:45Speaker 3: a huge bonus for us. But you know, we're doing
- 0:47Speaker 3: okay in the playoffs as well. Everything the playoffs, so
- 0:50Speaker 3: it's really good. Got a good young squad, a bit
- 0:53Speaker 3: of talent in there, which we're really delighted about. And
- 0:57Speaker 3: you've been on a good run of red at the
- 0:59Speaker 3: right time, Simon. You so really pleased, I.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Think looking at them just talking about it before you
- 1:04Speaker 1: came and Abodeans obviously beating them in they run for
- 1:07Speaker 1: the Scottish Cup. Got to do these confidence for getting
- 1:10Speaker 1: into the playoffs as well. On your day, you can
- 1:12Speaker 1: probably beat any of these teams.
- 1:13Speaker 2: When we're good, we're very good.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we've been inconsistent, which is fine because it's a
- 1:17Speaker 3: relatively new team with like I said, a lot of
- 1:19Speaker 3: young players. But they're really sort of and they like
- 1:23Speaker 3: the big games. The founder feet but they like the
- 1:25Speaker 3: big games, you know. So they've handled the big occasions
- 1:28Speaker 3: quite well. They've found a bit of consistency in the
- 1:31Speaker 3: last sort of five to six weeks. But yeah, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: the semi final take care of itself. You know, it's
- 1:38Speaker 3: about the league really, and the championship is such an
- 1:42Speaker 3: unpredictable league. It's but like the one in England, just
- 1:44Speaker 3: can put a bet on because there's there's clubs are
- 1:47Speaker 3: going runs and then they lose maybe four five and
- 1:49Speaker 3: then we've been like that, and other teams around us
- 1:52Speaker 3: have been like that. Saint Johnson, you know, they are
- 1:54Speaker 3: the best team in the league with thissel are running
- 1:56Speaker 3: them quite.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Close now win last week for them.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, if we could make the player also, it will
- 2:00Speaker 3: be a great season for us, you know. But we've
- 2:02Speaker 3: still got a bit of work today on that.
- 2:03Speaker 4: A couple of claus that you know about as well.
- 2:05Speaker 4: The Todd brothers.
- 2:06Speaker 5: Yeah, and Kenny done well, Andrew young Andrew and well.
- 2:10Speaker 2: He's been a revelation.
- 2:12Speaker 3: John's been lucky John like, yeah, the two of them
- 2:16Speaker 3: have been Mary oric really coming into the team, and
- 2:18Speaker 3: then John got a bad injury.
- 2:20Speaker 2: He's kept them.
- 2:20Speaker 3: He's he's actually back tuning in there, so hopefully we'll
- 2:23Speaker 3: get him for the running.
- 2:24Speaker 2: And Andrew's been sensational.
- 2:26Speaker 5: So there going in there. Obviously, the expectation there this
- 2:29Speaker 5: season with the younger ones, it's it's maybe a growing one,
- 2:32Speaker 5: you know in terms of the expectation to win the
- 2:36Speaker 5: league or get promotion in your first season, but he
- 2:39Speaker 5: probably exceeded that. With the Scottish coupy as well.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You know, listen, there was no where we were thinking
- 2:44Speaker 3: about promotion, you know, considering where we would come in from.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I mean, it needed so.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Much work, not just like on the on the score,
- 2:50Speaker 3: but the whole club itself. Silty's everything, you know, the food,
- 2:54Speaker 3: the Dad entition, you know, sports since so that's all
- 2:58Speaker 3: really improved and the players of four of board into it.
- 3:01Speaker 2: We're having a really good season.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You know when we look at you know, some of
- 3:05Speaker 3: the other teams in the division, they've got experience to.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Me, you know, and the fan base on armor we've
- 3:10Speaker 5: we've all played for I've started there obviously my career,
- 3:14Speaker 5: but I thought it was even back then it was
- 3:16Speaker 5: a wee bit of expectation, which actually helped me when
- 3:19Speaker 5: I went to Celtic, you know, because in that league,
- 3:22Speaker 5: in the Championship when I moved, you know, playing just
- 3:24Speaker 5: under a hundred games then going, it helped me sit
- 3:28Speaker 5: on great grounding for you, good fan based and.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Awesimately really good.
- 3:33Speaker 3: I mean, we're getting maybe six seven thousand games, which
- 3:36Speaker 3: is brilliant when we've played the the two Premier League
- 3:40Speaker 3: clubs and the cup has been sold out.
- 3:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I don't know how many we're going to be taking
- 3:43Speaker 3: the Hamdon, but it'll be ten plus anyway, So it's
- 3:46Speaker 3: a real football and hotbed.
- 3:47Speaker 2: When you get a going, is it.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Re energized you? Yeah, I'm really I mean obviously a
- 3:53Speaker 5: tough time after the COVID stuff and everyone helped telling
- 3:56Speaker 5: me what that, but I agreed because we were talking
- 3:58Speaker 5: about earlier real like I've finished where we're management, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 5: for you to see, I mean a lot higher pressure
- 4:07Speaker 5: than we were under and a lot more scrutiny and
- 4:09Speaker 5: a lot more you know, nastiness around it. But for us,
- 4:14Speaker 5: I mean I'll watching games now, in some games I
- 4:16Speaker 5: don't like and find it hard and what a games
- 4:19Speaker 5: A lot of games it's.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I agree with you.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I think the standard over the bit as the regressed
- 4:25Speaker 3: the last four or five years.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I'm talking about the Premier League in England.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You see if you're you're from the same era as us,
- 4:33Speaker 1: playing wise, and I look at I look at it
- 4:36Speaker 1: now and very really I see a game that I enjoyed.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Although when we were.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Coaching at Dune United it was kind of leaning towards
- 4:44Speaker 1: a lottle bit of sports science, which I thought, I
- 4:46Speaker 1: wish I did this back in mad day. They talk
- 4:48Speaker 1: about all these marginal games these days, so set piece coaches,
- 4:52Speaker 1: all this kind of stuff.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Do you have that? Do you what's your thoughts on
- 4:55Speaker 4: that sort of stuff?
- 4:57Speaker 2: There's a balance, isn't there?
- 4:58Speaker 3: Sometimes these people overhead the coaches, look, there's structures at
- 5:02Speaker 3: a lot of clubs say where they basically lift the
- 5:06Speaker 3: head coach and put them in there and say, right,
- 5:08Speaker 3: you've got to work within this structure, and a lot
- 5:09Speaker 3: of head coaches will be happy. I want to do
- 5:12Speaker 3: math thing league and I've earned the right to deal
- 5:14Speaker 3: with them firmland.
- 5:15Speaker 2: We do have.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Sports sense, we do have you know, analysis, we do
- 5:19Speaker 3: have you know. But ultimately the decisions, the football decisions
- 5:22Speaker 3: come down to me and recruitment and that as well.
- 5:25Speaker 3: And that's the way I like it. It doesn't mean
- 5:27Speaker 3: I'm not averse to listening to other opinions or as
- 5:30Speaker 3: you know, we have staff meetings every morning.
- 5:32Speaker 2: You know, what can we do better? Blah blah blah.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean he said, piece coach.
- 5:37Speaker 5: You know, yeah, come on listen.
- 5:42Speaker 3: I know anyone can watch one hundred said players and go,
- 5:45Speaker 3: oh you can do that better.
- 5:46Speaker 2: You can do that better.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Anyone can do that, especially with the likes of Arsenal.
- 5:51Speaker 1: This year the focus has been on set plays, but
- 5:53Speaker 1: it's a good delivery and.
- 5:55Speaker 2: People who want to go and to tackle the ball.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I assume one at the weekend. I need to give
- 5:59Speaker 1: back that. John mcginns was a bit different.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yeah, but like any.
- 6:05Speaker 4: House, it was one that you can see that they
- 6:06Speaker 4: want any.
- 6:07Speaker 2: House good at them as well.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Newcastle are a bit like you know, imaginative sometimes but
- 6:11Speaker 3: you need the quality to do it in the first place,
- 6:13Speaker 3: you know, and I always go back to, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 3: talking to Martin Boudry goes, look, I know, you get
- 6:18Speaker 3: somebody who deliver a good ball and do good around.
- 6:20Speaker 3: You got to have people who want to go and
- 6:22Speaker 3: attack the ball. And that's what we were like could sell.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It back in your day as well. The player was
- 6:26Speaker 1: probably given a bit more responsibility as well. But when
- 6:29Speaker 1: three kicks, I remember John Collins practicing things and it
- 6:32Speaker 1: was almost if there was a free kick there, you
- 6:35Speaker 1: go and see what you can do with it. And
- 6:36Speaker 1: they would practice little things themselves. So it was more
- 6:39Speaker 1: the players rather than.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Sometimes you know, you played the game, you play, you
- 6:44Speaker 3: take any contact with somebody and you.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Just you just do it. You do it, you do
- 6:48Speaker 2: it quickly.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Or I mean a lot of times I play hand
- 6:51Speaker 3: on and give it to Henry in the channel and
- 6:53Speaker 3: he would let somebody in, or you go and roll people.
- 6:56Speaker 3: You just play what you see a lot of it's
- 6:58Speaker 3: very methodical. And then I think that's where the games
- 7:00Speaker 3: going methodical and the text away the natural instincts the players,
- 7:05Speaker 3: and I think it also takes a whare the creativity
- 7:08Speaker 3: so much in Arsenal at the weekend the best team
- 7:10Speaker 3: in the league. You know they deserve to be where they are,
- 7:12Speaker 3: but they look really working on leg against City.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I've got avery point here that we put some me
- 7:17Speaker 1: bullet points down just to keep this going, hopefully so
- 7:20Speaker 1: the cherkey back will talk about it. So it came
- 7:23Speaker 1: in for a bit of stick after that showboating. Now
- 7:26Speaker 1: I'm not one for showboating as such. Absolutely it comes
- 7:30Speaker 1: to me. It takes three keep your pies, but I
- 7:35Speaker 1: think as well, and I didn't tackle. But my point
- 7:39Speaker 1: is I was sitting with my boy who's a Man
- 7:42Speaker 1: City supporter, and I said he's going to get smashed
- 7:45Speaker 1: in a minute.
- 7:46Speaker 4: And he gets smashed off.
- 7:47Speaker 1: The boy, but move it forward back towards the end
- 7:51Speaker 1: of the game. Set it up to now and he
- 7:53Speaker 1: receives the ball inside the arsenal box and I it's
- 7:56Speaker 1: killer Fiory and Martin Ellie tracking him back and.
- 7:59Speaker 4: He's moving with the ball.
- 8:01Speaker 1: He's not standing in the corner which you see time
- 8:04Speaker 1: and time again with yours in front of it.
- 8:06Speaker 4: He's actually moving with the ball. And Gary Neville says.
- 8:08Speaker 3: He needs to be careful here, and I don't know,
- 8:11Speaker 3: I disagree with that, right because I thought that when
- 8:13Speaker 3: he was appliant and the ball it was brilliant, brilliant.
- 8:16Speaker 3: I didn't like the toll tapping thing because said anyone
- 8:19Speaker 3: can do that thirty ords of space. We all could
- 8:21Speaker 3: have done that, and it is a bit disrespectful, like
- 8:24Speaker 3: you know what I mean. And Tep did shake his head,
- 8:26Speaker 3: but the stuff he did at the end was Listen.
- 8:28Speaker 2: He's a fabulous player. He's the type of player that
- 8:30Speaker 2: you want to go and watch.
- 8:31Speaker 3: But twenty minutes to go on a cup final again,
- 8:33Speaker 3: Arsenal met le vague on your face sometimes you know
- 8:36Speaker 3: what I mean.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Might but I just feel it's still the mot now.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I mean you're talking about that Arsenal team. To see
- 8:43Speaker 1: something like at a bit different, yea, yeah, I did
- 8:47Speaker 1: that one one time.
- 8:48Speaker 3: They keep you ups but everybody it's that album wins
- 8:52Speaker 3: something and then you know what I mean. But I remember,
- 8:55Speaker 3: I remember, can't round with them. Ball didn't even he
- 8:58Speaker 3: was told tapping and that. But like you know, there
- 9:02Speaker 3: was a time and a place for them, you know
- 9:03Speaker 3: what I mean. I didn't think it was the time.
- 9:05Speaker 3: But they enjoyed watching Churkey. I enjoy I thought that
- 9:09Speaker 3: was good as well. Actually, people who want to take
- 9:11Speaker 3: people on again, you know, giving it a bit of it.
- 9:13Speaker 3: It's funny the way he's going, pep like, he's going
- 9:15Speaker 3: like almost like a four to two four recently you know,
- 9:18Speaker 3: with Semeno, Holland Cherokey and Dark it's really interesting and
- 9:22Speaker 3: then the two boys in midfield.
- 9:23Speaker 2: But backfir On wee bit in Madrid.
- 9:26Speaker 3: But he's obviously looking at something that he needs to
- 9:29Speaker 3: change because they haven't had the season that he probably wanted.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You didn't know that.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Listen.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Second half they really turned on brilliant. They were really
- 9:37Speaker 1: good against Atale past. I still think the league's there
- 9:42Speaker 1: for them. I've got the game in hand. They obviously
- 9:44Speaker 1: have Arsenal, we play time Hotel.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I think all you know, both England and Scotland are
- 9:50Speaker 3: still for grabs.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Which thoughts in Scotland then.
- 9:55Speaker 3: After the weekend, I think Hearts have been to be
- 9:58Speaker 3: where the oars amazing. You know, maybe it's a I
- 10:03Speaker 3: don't know, a black mark against the big two that
- 10:06Speaker 3: normally dominated the scene. I think they've both been poor,
- 10:10Speaker 3: you know, better than standards, particularly Celtic, but I still
- 10:13Speaker 3: think it's so for grabs. You know, I think five
- 10:15Speaker 3: points I remember two thousand and five with five clear
- 10:18Speaker 3: going into the split and we lost there in the
- 10:20Speaker 3: last there so anything can happen, but celticly defend, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 3: there's no consistency, like you know.
- 10:25Speaker 2: So we can, we can.
- 10:28Speaker 5: I was actually at the game, but where did you go?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 10:32Speaker 5: I was was watching it, but the pictures had ended.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Has been the same for both teams. But I think
- 10:37Speaker 5: you play certain things like guess what we're talking about,
- 10:41Speaker 5: like understanding and seeing things how they are, you know,
- 10:45Speaker 5: when playing in front of them, can we just turn them?
- 10:47Speaker 5: I don't think they've got certain players to do that.
- 10:49Speaker 5: And getting behind you know, you're actual everything has to
- 10:52Speaker 5: be around them. He's not going to turn them. But
- 10:55Speaker 5: again just the passes in in front of people rather
- 10:59Speaker 5: than just turning one over the corner. And even the
- 11:01Speaker 5: second goal I think comes of Scales plays it and
- 11:04Speaker 5: the boy who's facing them right on the touch line,
- 11:06Speaker 5: he plays it blind, you know, and they break away
- 11:10Speaker 5: and eventually leads to the goal. But rather than him
- 11:13Speaker 5: because he can he's got a better view just to
- 11:16Speaker 5: just to even click one, and because the pitch it.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Was conduci of the playing on kind of for isn't it.
- 11:23Speaker 5: You've got to you've got to adjust to get the
- 11:25Speaker 5: win and then if you get the goals, and then
- 11:28Speaker 5: then you can then try to be bits are important.
- 11:31Speaker 3: I think it's like I didn't see that coming, right,
- 11:34Speaker 3: So they're really going to, I mean silly, going to
- 11:36Speaker 3: have to dig in Rangers. Rangers on Hords really are
- 11:40Speaker 3: really strong at home. Their weare forms a little bit iffy.
- 11:44Speaker 4: So I just thought, after after the Cup game and
- 11:49Speaker 4: last week the.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Mother will, you think we're going to kick on and
- 11:54Speaker 3: they've never kicked on all season.
- 11:56Speaker 4: But yours fall into that. It's Celtic.
- 11:59Speaker 2: They are going to go on a long Yeah, you
- 12:01Speaker 2: expect that because they've done it before.
- 12:02Speaker 1: After this sit back with the Hibs, you're thinking, is
- 12:06Speaker 1: that it going themselves back into it? And as you say,
- 12:09Speaker 1: you don't see the dunderdrated one coming, but it's one
- 12:12Speaker 1: of these games. After five minutes you're like, sometimes you
- 12:14Speaker 1: can just tell that it's but.
- 12:16Speaker 3: They've been digging out results all season without playing well.
- 12:18Speaker 3: But obviously they've they've lost that and then you know
- 12:21Speaker 3: they're going to have to They can't afford the thing
- 12:24Speaker 3: they've got. Their advantage is they've got Rangers at home
- 12:26Speaker 3: and Hearts. You know, Hearts have got a Derby away,
- 12:31Speaker 3: so it's really on Hearts Lake. They put out big
- 12:34Speaker 3: performances that they've never been there before. I think they've
- 12:36Speaker 3: got the manager Hearts to do it. I think the
- 12:38Speaker 3: Ell League is you know, strong, and he's got longevity
- 12:42Speaker 3: and he's taking Hearts a long way. But whether the
- 12:45Speaker 3: players are good enough to do it, I don't know.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And then you can't write Rangers off father, you really
- 12:50Speaker 3: can't know.
- 12:51Speaker 4: It's going to be an interesting one.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Interesting in yourself linked to a sit down, M Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 5: you've been straight and I just that's nice, very nice.
- 13:02Speaker 3: If I'm happy where I am at the minute, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 3: and I've got like we're in two competitions still and
- 13:07Speaker 3: that's great for us, you know, so I want to
- 13:09Speaker 3: see see things out, you know.
- 13:11Speaker 5: Really happy with the Premier League.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'll do it this year. Probably not
- 13:18Speaker 3: it's a big hosp but we'll give it a go.
- 13:20Speaker 3: And then could we met the Cup final possibly, So
- 13:23Speaker 3: there's a lot of player forms still, so you know,
- 13:25Speaker 3: that's I'm not going to be distracted by speculation. It's
- 13:28Speaker 3: nice to be involved with that sort of conversation. Ultimately,
- 13:31Speaker 3: I don't want to be, you know, coaching in the
- 13:33Speaker 3: Championship for too long. You don't want to be in
- 13:35Speaker 3: the Premier League or maybe.
- 13:36Speaker 5: Maybe too out there as well. Yeah, after the first.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Season, it was after the cup finals, do you remember,
- 13:42Speaker 3: and Stubbs he won and then he went to rother
- 13:44Speaker 3: them and then they came in. I made a good
- 13:46Speaker 3: year and then we had a great year of the
- 13:47Speaker 3: following year. I do think if I can get the
- 13:50Speaker 3: firm and up, we've got a good team to play
- 13:51Speaker 3: in the Premier League because I.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Think they can handle it.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Different type of football, better pitches, you know, we say
- 13:58Speaker 3: better pictures, but I'm not.
- 14:02Speaker 1: This episode is sponsored by Rosie mcguilds and Cable Roig.
- 14:05Speaker 1: We're going to be there at Celtic Supporters Festival from
- 14:08Speaker 1: June the fourth to the seventh, myself, Jackie, who else.
- 14:12Speaker 5: Peter Grant, Joe Miller, Alan Thompson and Tommy Johnson. And yeah,
- 14:19Speaker 5: the link is in a description and back to the episode.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Said yeah, all right, let's switch to play you switch
- 14:27Speaker 1: at the Boie, I maybe put the bolly and talk
- 14:29Speaker 1: about a couple of lot of things. Music, So big
- 14:33Speaker 1: Oasis fan, massive best band your favorite.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I mean the biggest influence on me.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Back in the day.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I mean I grew up in I mean I was
- 14:44Speaker 3: living in Manchester in the in the nineties of course,
- 14:47Speaker 3: so you know, I moved to Manchester in eighty seven
- 14:50Speaker 3: and I was there for a year and nine years said,
- 14:53Speaker 3: so it was you know, you can imagine that was
- 14:55Speaker 3: the whole start of the Manchester scene. And then you know,
- 14:58Speaker 3: sort of races came out of the back of that
- 15:00Speaker 3: almost see the Happy Mondays in Spiral Corpets and Charlotte
- 15:04Speaker 3: and Stone Roses and then we used to see We're
- 15:07Speaker 3: a little bit different from the rest. And the first
- 15:09Speaker 3: time I saw him, I just thought, well, this.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Blew me away.
- 15:15Speaker 4: We wanted to see them in Manchester.
- 15:19Speaker 5: What was it?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Manchester?
- 15:23Speaker 3: It's a really good I saw them in Sheffield and
- 15:27Speaker 3: then we went the same in the corn Exchange. Remember
- 15:29Speaker 3: that was like maybe four or five years later when
- 15:32Speaker 3: I saw him at me and Ruod in ninety six, right,
- 15:34Speaker 3: and it was one of the best days of my life.
- 15:36Speaker 2: You know. We got promoted with.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Leicester, so I'm in the Premier League and then you know,
- 15:42Speaker 3: Steve Lomas was a good friend.
- 15:43Speaker 2: The men he was a man city captain, so he.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Got a great tickets for me and Rude and then
- 15:46Speaker 3: I got backstage, got steam and got it chucked out
- 15:49Speaker 3: for fat and lat nice, brilliant, brilliant. And then I've
- 15:54Speaker 3: seen him about twelve or thirteen times. My son's named
- 15:57Speaker 3: after him, you know Gallagher, you know, so that you've
- 16:00Speaker 3: met them a few times, met them obviously that time
- 16:06Speaker 3: at me and Road and then them at the bar Lands.
- 16:08Speaker 1: The pane Lands gig was the one. It was that,
- 16:10Speaker 1: the one that was filmed that worked amazing.
- 16:12Speaker 3: It was Martin at that, you know, we had that
- 16:14Speaker 3: one and we remember like the backsta its just to
- 16:16Speaker 3: be curtain and then Toomis spilt a drink like over
- 16:19Speaker 3: an old Gallagher againness kind again us and didn't mean
- 16:25Speaker 3: it so and then Martin was like because whenever we
- 16:28Speaker 3: were at Leicester. I remember a couple of times you
- 16:29Speaker 3: went at Wembley and all the way back up from
- 16:31Speaker 3: London to Leicester it was oasis. You know, there was
- 16:35Speaker 3: just massive but it was doing like all the bands
- 16:38Speaker 3: of the service. If it didn't say you know it
- 16:39Speaker 3: didn't like them as well. And then I went to
- 16:41Speaker 3: the the reunion at Edinburgh, and honestly, I was there
- 16:45Speaker 3: said it was like being back at ninety. I got
- 16:47Speaker 3: really emotionally, you know.
- 16:49Speaker 1: That Tuesday night I was above you, so you better
- 16:51Speaker 1: be William, weren't you a mutual friend? I was above
- 16:55Speaker 1: you with the my season brother in lawnch sister and
- 16:58Speaker 1: it was it was just.
- 17:00Speaker 2: It was amazing.
- 17:02Speaker 5: Dublin.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, yeah, football's right.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Yeah, we're supposed to just get replaced for Pulm stay.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Well, it's a good, good substitution in that substitution one
- 17:13Speaker 3: of my heroes and all. But no, they were to
- 17:16Speaker 3: see them like twenty thirty years on and you know,
- 17:20Speaker 3: they look great, They looked dead, mature, they weren't working
- 17:23Speaker 3: about a yeah, a brilliant musician, great voice, and.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I just loved it.
- 17:27Speaker 3: And then you see everyone jumping up and down and
- 17:29Speaker 3: it was like being back in may and Road in
- 17:31Speaker 3: eighty six.
- 17:31Speaker 2: You know, it was almost like booming.
- 17:34Speaker 3: It was that good in the night, weather was amazing
- 17:37Speaker 3: and they were just in great form and I just
- 17:40Speaker 3: loved it. But yeah, they had a huge influence on
- 17:42Speaker 3: my left. But the whole Manchester scene at the time.
- 17:45Speaker 3: You know, I probably didn't even young enough to realize
- 17:48Speaker 3: what was going on. It was just hanging around like
- 17:51Speaker 3: people who went on to be famous like Sally Lindsay
- 17:54Speaker 3: and Craig Cash and all these guys a little big
- 17:56Speaker 3: city fans at the.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Time, and then went on the really good careers.
- 18:01Speaker 3: As celebrities, you know, and then coming up here of
- 18:04Speaker 3: good friends with Bobby Bluebell from the Blue you know,
- 18:06Speaker 3: Johnny McElhone, the Texas got to see them.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You know.
- 18:10Speaker 3: I love the Scottish bands. I was taking Blue in November.
- 18:13Speaker 3: I thought they were amazing. So yeah, music's yeah, I
- 18:16Speaker 3: love my music, you know, but I love my Year
- 18:18Speaker 3: and the New Year type of stuff. There's nothing really jumping.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Out with these days.
- 18:22Speaker 5: The young the young ones think the Oasis is there either,
- 18:24Speaker 5: didn't they Your kids does now?
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah? Our granddads just like it stairs and we're like no, no, no, no,
- 18:31Speaker 3: that's that's oursday.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 5: It was a bit like maybe Bruce Springsteen, oh man,
- 18:37Speaker 5: you know, I mean, I'm going to watch The Boss. Yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 5: but that was obviously my dad's influence influencing.
- 18:43Speaker 3: But I think the I think the Mayst Gallas is
- 18:46Speaker 3: as well, you know that they ever gallous did like
- 18:48Speaker 3: when they're being interviewing back in the day, I thought all.
- 18:51Speaker 1: A talking about it, there was, so I've never met them.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I went down to Newcastle. It was a night Newcastle
- 19:00Speaker 1: drew the Barcelona three each. Yes, so I went down
- 19:03Speaker 1: by a mate after training. Somebody sorted at the tickets,
- 19:07Speaker 1: as it always seemed to be the case, and it
- 19:09Speaker 1: was Bonehead I met.
- 19:11Speaker 4: So it was backstage.
- 19:12Speaker 1: It was there was a guy walking about, swimming about,
- 19:14Speaker 1: thinking the Wisliam Gallagher, but it Wassney Lilliam Gallagher.
- 19:16Speaker 4: So I've met Bonehead.
- 19:19Speaker 1: I hadn't met the other two, right, So then that's
- 19:22Speaker 1: character that contacts me one time.
- 19:23Speaker 4: He says, listen, Oasis.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Are playing in the Edinburgh it's a really intimate gig.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I think we're going to meet them. They just get
- 19:31Speaker 1: through and I'm like you sure. Because at the time
- 19:34Speaker 1: I had a good connection at Creation Records. That was
- 19:37Speaker 1: that it was a boy Paul Quinn. It was a
- 19:39Speaker 1: drummon Tines his fan club. So I would get him
- 19:42Speaker 1: tickets for Celtic and he would sort me out vice versa.
- 19:44Speaker 1: So it was a good understanding. Anyway, he's he's said
- 19:49Speaker 1: there's an intimate gig Edinburgh, Edinburgh for Oasis, So right, okay,
- 19:55Speaker 1: with my head in it, that's a bit brilliant.
- 19:57Speaker 4: Get to meet the band. It was no Oasis tribute
- 20:01Speaker 4: band told her that I literally walked into the place.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Were they any good there?
- 20:07Speaker 4: Actually there? Actually?
- 20:08Speaker 5: Right? But how we're going to get in this one?
- 20:12Speaker 5: I just told the wives were a private gig. We
- 20:14Speaker 5: told everybody so the big massive cowboard cutouts and I've
- 20:23Speaker 5: signed it to Jack and said or the best.
- 20:26Speaker 2: No you think the signature.
- 20:28Speaker 5: I took her back to the wife, I said, you
- 20:30Speaker 5: give us this cowboard put back to his.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Private gug wunder the down on you was a tribute as.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Soon as I walked on the door, and I thought
- 20:41Speaker 4: it was racist, tried it.
- 20:42Speaker 5: Right in the door and give you guys. We're on
- 20:45Speaker 5: the tour bus after No.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Oasis probably are probably make the fortune.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Again the tour bus after it was a good night.
- 20:53Speaker 4: I've never met him, I would like to.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I can't believe it's small.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I was quite surprised, you know, when you're first see
- 20:59Speaker 3: him four grass and tell they're going to be big yeahs,
- 21:02Speaker 3: but they were they were quite small and sleep so
- 21:05Speaker 3: but I've only got a handshake and a quick conversation
- 21:08Speaker 3: and that, and when I saw them in Glasgow. No
- 21:10Speaker 3: Gallagher said that no thightting in it because he remembered
- 21:13Speaker 3: me getting kicked out the last time.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so embarrassed, and.
- 21:19Speaker 4: I meant, no, the tenants in the.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Park sweet Sweet again another one, so you get left
- 21:28Speaker 1: out again?
- 21:30Speaker 4: So Stone Roses.
- 21:35Speaker 5: The park up and per Stone Roses getting back? Why
- 21:40Speaker 5: not did I wasn't near really any Stone Roses.
- 21:45Speaker 4: You want to go back to stage? I said, no,
- 21:47Speaker 4: I want to staying there.
- 21:48Speaker 5: You go Smart the VIP but so Smarty Smart and
- 21:51Speaker 5: he's like, you want to go back?
- 21:53Speaker 4: He went back to him because he went hissel down.
- 21:59Speaker 2: You're talking to you.
- 22:00Speaker 5: I was starting next to know at the side of
- 22:02Speaker 5: the stage when they were on, so they're all the
- 22:04Speaker 5: other side of the stage. I'm like, they're watching all
- 22:07Speaker 5: the crowd and it was made of stone song when
- 22:10Speaker 5: I didn't know the words and I'm singing along. I
- 22:13Speaker 5: was going to bucket for the post. No Gallicer next
- 22:20Speaker 5: gone Smart one side and I was saying it must
- 22:23Speaker 5: have been as cause of Umer Smart.
- 22:26Speaker 3: He's got somebody with firm as well m Ress. So
- 22:31Speaker 3: because he was at one of the grounds. It was
- 22:33Speaker 3: one of the games about a couple of months ago.
- 22:36Speaker 2: It still looks great, looks cool.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Don't He used to used to do stuff. It was him,
- 22:43Speaker 5: got his like backstage, and she said no, I was
- 22:46Speaker 5: just standing there hersell But he was sitting on the
- 22:49Speaker 5: estern weather side of the or the crowd, and I'm
- 22:51Speaker 5: standing out the side watching them singing.
- 22:54Speaker 3: I'm going to tear the pork once toy Paul Weller
- 22:57Speaker 3: was on one of them, see Paul Weller. So I
- 22:59Speaker 3: was over up was pre seasonal, a time of year
- 23:01Speaker 3: it's like July, and when the team the parks on,
- 23:04Speaker 3: I wasn't drinking me and remember Tommy Jordan, he's at
- 23:07Speaker 3: Villain I me and Tommy. So by the time I
- 23:10Speaker 3: walked from the car park up to the vi p Bit,
- 23:13Speaker 3: I got into four feats well like you know people, Yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 3: just having a go, and I'm even at the hot
- 23:20Speaker 3: dog standing guy walks past me throm me on on.
- 23:23Speaker 2: The shoulder and I just thought.
- 23:25Speaker 3: So I went up to the vip bit, had a
- 23:26Speaker 3: beer with remember Trevor Nelson DJ. They're talking about Arsenal
- 23:30Speaker 3: and that I thought, I'm not even going to go
- 23:32Speaker 3: out there again. Lasted about two hours and thought never again,
- 23:35Speaker 3: like you know what I mean.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Nemor so that that was my chance to meet.
- 23:39Speaker 5: No, you didn't know, didn' they come knows He's been
- 23:44Speaker 5: corrected me with the words for the song. He used
- 23:46Speaker 5: to come to the games, didn't he remember the Maybe
- 23:49Speaker 5: he came to your game in Martin the Caffe. He
- 23:53Speaker 5: got a top signed, He signed a top and he
- 23:55Speaker 5: said he knew I liked the way. He's just know
- 23:58Speaker 5: that issues if you win that the league or whatever
- 24:00Speaker 5: it was, Algary Top or something you knew I was
- 24:03Speaker 5: watching it. I never got it. We did.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Mess still give all from it. You never know.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Maybe bost of them have been definitely have.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Like that. The bars was great, remember.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Seeing that on the TV? And Weaver ships in the night.
- 24:23Speaker 4: You came what about a year after me.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I came in two Thursy. At the end of two
- 24:26Speaker 2: thurs I.
- 24:27Speaker 5: Was a being. Remember did you go cheff.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Wed then cheff red and woking back and going I
- 24:31Speaker 1: wish I was up at that gig. And the first
- 24:34Speaker 1: time I met you was Tommy Johnson's wedding and the castle.
- 24:41Speaker 1: You came in with the peroxide blonde hair, old.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Rock on the look. Yeah, trying to keep in conspicuous.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Tommy, Tommy has got a lot of answer for And
- 24:53Speaker 5: as you said, that lovely guitar, said, you.
- 24:55Speaker 4: See, I've noticed that.
- 24:58Speaker 5: I was. I was trying to remember I you were
- 25:00Speaker 5: at it and could you play? No?
- 25:02Speaker 4: But can you no?
- 25:05Speaker 2: I tried to learn and I couldn't do it.
- 25:06Speaker 5: But the story with that I was at that function,
- 25:11Speaker 5: Tommy's charity, Tommy Johnson's charity thing. It was for Guatemala,
- 25:16Speaker 5: being at it. I was there that night and double no,
- 25:18Speaker 5: you want to but a phone thankfully, thankfully phone the
- 25:21Speaker 5: auction stuff and a phone down. I was like, said
- 25:25Speaker 5: this guitar here is a topper it signed. But all
- 25:29Speaker 5: the Chelsea players that are in the cup final, the
- 25:32Speaker 5: Champions League finals, if they win that, that'll be worth
- 25:34Speaker 5: a fortune. And I said, you are going for it.
- 25:38Speaker 5: I don't know whatever. It was steaming and I woke
- 25:44Speaker 5: up in the morning and my tuxedo was the side
- 25:47Speaker 5: of my bed and it was a guitar side of
- 25:49Speaker 5: my bed for.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Fox sake, So mostly the perfect.
- 25:54Speaker 5: Three and a half grinds. I didn't know until to
- 25:58Speaker 5: get you.
- 25:58Speaker 2: In for fifty percent arrestment, it would be fair.
- 26:04Speaker 5: John Terry John Terry had me slipped and the post
- 26:08Speaker 5: worth a few more. I got my money, but but
- 26:11Speaker 5: I blame the Jody for that, taking his hair and
- 26:14Speaker 5: phone as we drink. It's quite day, so it's a
- 26:17Speaker 5: It's a lovely.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Cast that's about twenty years old.
- 26:20Speaker 5: In two thousand and eight it was the stunder Right,
- 26:23Speaker 5: Be strong, and I'll try to look at all the names,
- 26:26Speaker 5: and he's got the numbers and what I own it
- 26:28Speaker 5: John Terry there, I should put all the apostryphe next
- 26:31Speaker 5: to that. Frank both a Chelsea Farm want a bit
- 26:37Speaker 5: of the toy your money, but I plug it, said
- 26:41Speaker 5: go get the get make.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Sure it works, said.
- 26:46Speaker 5: Errand was playing it. Let her use it then become anonymously.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Also one of the biggest regret. We're a piano in
- 26:54Speaker 3: our house for thirteen years and never looked at it.
- 26:56Speaker 3: I just want to be playing football. And then I
- 26:59Speaker 3: try the saxophone.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I tried the.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Guitar the kids brought me a UK a couple of
- 27:05Speaker 5: years ago. My fingers were too big.
- 27:10Speaker 2: George form me there windows.
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think, yeah at the we stage with the guitar,
- 27:18Speaker 1: but I think big Brian new actually got me a
- 27:21Speaker 1: a teacher that come up to the house when you're
- 27:24Speaker 1: getting lessons in.
- 27:24Speaker 4: My oas stage.
- 27:25Speaker 1: But I would just get frustrated that I couldn't placed
- 27:28Speaker 1: it away. Never kind of much like your piano just
- 27:31Speaker 1: sat in the corner.
- 27:33Speaker 3: My sister's all player, like I never did, like my mum,
- 27:35Speaker 3: and she had a bit of going on. And as
- 27:37Speaker 3: one of the biggest regrets because I remember, you know
- 27:40Speaker 3: Mark Robins, you know Rubble, he's manager Stoked now he
- 27:43Speaker 3: was a comedy and that great Laddy's plain and tamer.
- 27:46Speaker 2: The men at Leicester.
- 27:47Speaker 3: I remember going out one night there was a piano
- 27:49Speaker 3: there feel the lads and Rubble just sits down and
- 27:51Speaker 3: starts playing a few tunes and like just everyone's sort
- 27:54Speaker 3: of gravity.
- 27:55Speaker 2: It's like it's brilliant. It's just really good fun.
- 27:57Speaker 1: Like you know, let's go back to a little bit
- 27:59Speaker 1: of football in which your favorite player of all time?
- 28:03Speaker 2: Oh, great question, growing up with Kenny King.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just like when I'm playing out in
- 28:13Speaker 3: the streets and one of the Bichini you know, I
- 28:14Speaker 3: love that. Obviously it was a Celtic And then you
- 28:18Speaker 3: know when when you were growing up, no that you
- 28:22Speaker 3: never got like the games through the games and that,
- 28:24Speaker 3: so the only football you ever got was match of
- 28:26Speaker 3: the day of the lave European games, you know, so
- 28:29Speaker 3: you know that Liverpool team like you saw a lot,
- 28:32Speaker 3: and then see Celtics sometimes on a on the back
- 28:36Speaker 3: end of match.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Of their headlights and stuff like that. But Kenny would
- 28:39Speaker 2: have been my hero growing up. And then like you know, I.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Think message the best player of old time.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean everyone will have their own, like it's
- 28:48Speaker 3: not set and Stunt said, all great players will play
- 28:52Speaker 3: for me in any era, do you know what I mean.
- 28:54Speaker 3: It's just whenever I watched him, like you know, you
- 28:56Speaker 3: couldn't take your raise off him. You know, I just
- 28:58Speaker 3: thought he was as we're raising and just so good
- 29:02Speaker 3: to perch like from the streets.
- 29:03Speaker 2: You know, he just made the game look easy at
- 29:05Speaker 2: the highest.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Levels you're making time.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Just the quality, you know, quality and speed and I
- 29:12Speaker 3: just love watching them play. But there were so many,
- 29:14Speaker 3: like you know, it was we were looking at a
- 29:17Speaker 3: guy did it one hundreds greatest players of all time
- 29:19Speaker 3: and it was a great list. You'd mess you at
- 29:22Speaker 3: the top. And then he had Pelly and Back and
- 29:25Speaker 3: Bar and all these you know, great players. When you
- 29:28Speaker 3: think about all the players that you've watched over the years.
- 29:31Speaker 3: You know, the players you played against as well. Ronald
- 29:33Speaker 3: and you just play against him playing in the Premier League,
- 29:37Speaker 3: gain Bird Camp and Honoree and the Ear and all
- 29:40Speaker 3: these your Keynes and Gigs and all these lotly.
- 29:43Speaker 4: I just think that as well.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Just you're talking about the so the Premiership that you
- 29:47Speaker 1: played in, it was magic, that was like brilliant.
- 29:50Speaker 4: You think back to the Stakers as well, so many
- 29:53Speaker 4: years on tearing.
- 29:53Speaker 3: And sixty goals, you know you can get here. Hardy
- 29:55Speaker 3: Kane probably would have probably would have beat it, right,
- 29:59Speaker 3: But the next one's like one hundred. You're talking about
- 30:01Speaker 3: Eddie Goulds behind and I think he had injuries as well,
- 30:04Speaker 3: he said, you know he missed the season with Cruise.
- 30:06Speaker 4: And that the quality though as well.
- 30:07Speaker 1: You could identify a lot of teams by the number nines.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Now there's not so much of that. That's obviously a
- 30:19Speaker 1: lot of teams play one not top.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I hear it. You know, I love Holland. I love
- 30:24Speaker 2: Holland right because he's a proper bony ferry center.
- 30:27Speaker 3: If it just wants to score goals, you know, you're
- 30:29Speaker 3: levendowskis that these type Harry Keanes and they're the ones
- 30:33Speaker 3: that always made the difference, Henrik, so you know, out
- 30:36Speaker 3: of nothing as well.
- 30:38Speaker 2: And they were preciless, you know, and you couldn't coach them.
- 30:40Speaker 2: That's the beauty of it.
- 30:41Speaker 3: But what's going out of the game is people who
- 30:43Speaker 3: can hit the ball proficiently as well.
- 30:45Speaker 2: You know that we're a kid that had done firmly.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Barniey Stewart's going back.
- 30:49Speaker 3: To fall Kirk now and he's a standout because he's
- 30:53Speaker 3: absolutely brilliant in the air, getting on the end of
- 30:55Speaker 3: crosses and stuff like that.
- 30:57Speaker 2: And I said that, you know, you're very rarely seeking.
- 31:01Speaker 5: In the academy probably to heah, you know, and.
- 31:05Speaker 2: It's a knack that stand out and I used to
- 31:08Speaker 2: it was one thing I could never do. That was
- 31:10Speaker 2: a great leg. Admired of these guys.
- 31:12Speaker 3: He could hit the ball and I played with some
- 31:14Speaker 3: crackers John soti emil Heski.
- 31:17Speaker 2: You know, Henry Kennrick.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Was amazing because he was like that, but his hangtimes
- 31:22Speaker 3: on the power he generated as well.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I've reluctant to put the ball in the box as well. Yeah,
- 31:26Speaker 1: you get anywhere else do you get? You get to
- 31:29Speaker 1: that stage just deliver it and they want to come
- 31:31Speaker 1: back out.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I mean, as you go back there that year is said,
- 31:35Speaker 3: you don't know Ferguson, Alan sheer Les, Ferdinand Terry Shannhan.
- 31:40Speaker 3: You know players Cool and York could have both hit
- 31:42Speaker 3: it as well. Fouler could hit it, you know for
- 31:44Speaker 3: a little gay. He could get up and put and
- 31:46Speaker 3: it was just brilliant to watch. But in the box
- 31:48Speaker 3: of a dynamite leg you know, he can't take it out,
- 31:50Speaker 3: may even make alone. He was pretty special with your team.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I remember playing against him, you know, off five ten
- 31:56Speaker 3: yards he was electric, absolutely electric. Yeah, so yeah, I
- 32:03Speaker 3: don't know, like I'm really happy they've played in the
- 32:06Speaker 3: year I played them. You don't want to see football now,
- 32:09Speaker 3: you know, the late night these early two thousands in
- 32:11Speaker 3: the Premier League and then the great time I had
- 32:13Speaker 3: it sot like, you know, it was really really lucky.
- 32:15Speaker 3: For ten years they have all those great experiences and
- 32:18Speaker 3: the quality of games, the quality of player. I do
- 32:21Speaker 3: think the Barcelona team in twenty eleven is the best
- 32:25Speaker 3: team club team ever saw though when they beat Manionated
- 32:29Speaker 3: three one at Wembley. You know, when Manionated were good,
- 32:33Speaker 3: like top top team but they'd like schooled them, you know,
- 32:36Speaker 3: and Fergie of all people, just didn't have the answers.
- 32:39Speaker 2: They were bay Fo you know, well.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Not bay for but one of the greatest club side
- 32:43Speaker 3: I've ever seen, like, you know, just the football, the
- 32:46Speaker 3: players was brilliant to watch.
- 32:48Speaker 2: You know, I'm ruthless with it as well.
- 32:50Speaker 5: It's funny and even the systems. Now it looks like
- 32:52Speaker 5: the four four to two is coming back.
- 32:55Speaker 2: But they all do. Why don't they mean, they just
- 32:57Speaker 2: go full circle.
- 32:57Speaker 5: I think a lot of people who are fed up
- 32:59Speaker 5: with the goal he's in the ball, goalies punching the
- 33:03Speaker 5: ball or getting back to the goalie or the center
- 33:05Speaker 5: halves in the ball. I just imagine our era, you know,
- 33:08Speaker 5: like Martin.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But we all would have been gotten it on like god.
- 33:12Speaker 3: They you know, I hate the goalkeepers the last person
- 33:15Speaker 3: wanting the balls with goalie, but a lot of coaches
- 33:17Speaker 3: like it because you know, sucks out the opposition and at.
- 33:20Speaker 5: A level, at that level they're talking about is different.
- 33:24Speaker 3: You know, some of the goalies are really proficient with
- 33:26Speaker 3: the ball defeat, like you know, Rayah and Manuel Noyer
- 33:29Speaker 3: and at least ten what do you call the boy
- 33:31Speaker 3: Barcelona the German Gay he's really good as well, but
- 33:34Speaker 3: ultimately one of the next sears. You know, people said
- 33:37Speaker 3: Kurtz was not the best, but he's brilliant shot stopper.
- 33:40Speaker 2: He wins your games. You know, we had that with
- 33:42Speaker 2: three as a foster. He goes and brilliant with the balls.
- 33:44Speaker 5: Brilliant then against Man City.
- 33:49Speaker 3: And they even in the second game, the quality of
- 33:51Speaker 3: football was fantastic.
- 33:53Speaker 4: It plays it as well, didn't they plays? Because I fancied.
- 33:56Speaker 2: City Barbie in the Beellium and they're still, wasn't it?
- 34:00Speaker 3: They was awesome, awesome, awesome three finishes with different class,
- 34:06Speaker 3: aren't they?
- 34:07Speaker 2: And he can run hymns to that they can strike
- 34:10Speaker 2: a ball. But that's just the quality thing.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I mean that might be highlights for the English Premiership
- 34:17Speaker 1: is just now the likes of Adel Madrid team missing Bellingham.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I look at the likes of Paris and pass and
- 34:26Speaker 1: they just they get something more about them than English teams.
- 34:29Speaker 2: The far more entertainer for a start.
- 34:31Speaker 4: Yeah, they want to go forward way, they.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Got speed on the break.
- 34:34Speaker 4: Yeah, technically good decision making.
- 34:37Speaker 2: The quality to watch was the slot said it the
- 34:41Speaker 2: other week.
- 34:41Speaker 3: He doesn't enjoy the games you know, maybe the three
- 34:44Speaker 3: or four years ago, because it's become a bit more physical.
- 34:47Speaker 3: I think they over coach, said the hilly truth. I
- 34:49Speaker 3: think the one of the players over coached.
- 34:51Speaker 4: And fear to give the ball away.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Well not just that, like you know, they don't look
- 34:56Speaker 3: for it anymore. You know, they'll take risks with the ball. Yeah,
- 34:59Speaker 3: that's that the final Maybe maybe they're more obsessed about
- 35:03Speaker 3: their own starts and that, you know, keeping the ball.
- 35:04Speaker 2: But you know, like it was a good it's not
- 35:07Speaker 2: about the short.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Pass of it's the long pass. It's about the red pass.
- 35:11Speaker 3: And I think a lot of them are ingrained just
- 35:13Speaker 3: the yeah, yeah, you haven't see dribblers anymore either, you know,
- 35:19Speaker 3: people getting rid. Yeah, so it goes full circle, toy
- 35:25Speaker 3: like we played three five two for years, didn't and
- 35:27Speaker 3: then it went out and then can't they brought it
- 35:28Speaker 3: back a bit and then I see a lot of
- 35:29Speaker 3: teams playing with back three whether three four three or
- 35:32Speaker 3: three five two, you know, and four four two inevitably
- 35:36Speaker 3: will come back again, like you know, because you've got
- 35:39Speaker 3: to find a way winning games of football legue, you
- 35:41Speaker 3: know what I mean.
- 35:42Speaker 2: It's interesting, Like it's good to see even.
- 35:44Speaker 5: The younger one, the younger generation being taught how to
- 35:47Speaker 5: head the ball, you know, because the no for me
- 35:50Speaker 5: dealing with crosses, stopping crosses. You know, even back then,
- 35:53Speaker 5: you see it now, you know, growing up if somebody
- 35:57Speaker 5: put across and you get absolutely slaughtered for us stopping it,
- 36:02Speaker 5: I don't. They don't do enough to block the crosses
- 36:05Speaker 5: to stop it to and then when it does come
- 36:07Speaker 5: in to be in the right position, you know, defensively
- 36:11Speaker 5: to deal with the deal with across.
- 36:13Speaker 3: You're talking about the basic fundamentals of defending, which is gone.
- 36:16Speaker 5: But they think that the basics fundamental defending now is
- 36:19Speaker 5: to get from the back, pass the back and take
- 36:22Speaker 5: responsibility and looking great on the ball rather than win
- 36:25Speaker 5: your battles.
- 36:26Speaker 3: And this has been like it's been creeping into the
- 36:29Speaker 3: game for a while. But if you look at Lake,
- 36:32Speaker 3: so Newcastle got hammered, Chelsea got hammered, somebody else, Spurs
- 36:38Speaker 3: got conceded seven. So these are primary league teams here
- 36:41Speaker 3: in the Champions League getting hammered over two legs.
- 36:44Speaker 5: It won't happened. The Chelsea one with the he's put
- 36:47Speaker 5: the note to the boy.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Hel's symptomatic of the you know, the modern day coach
- 36:52Speaker 2: as well. Seven set down your passing notes a.
- 36:56Speaker 5: Few minutes to go and then it has them when
- 36:58Speaker 5: they we circle to respect the ball.
- 37:03Speaker 3: I'm not going I'm not going to criticize all the
- 37:05Speaker 3: managers to have, but this is like the modern day manager.
- 37:08Speaker 3: There's a lot of networking going on without any real
- 37:12Speaker 3: substance to what they do, and they get jobs.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Eventually they get found out that. You know, whether I.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Think our kids are good coach or not, the proof
- 37:20Speaker 3: will being the pudding. But the way he's coming across,
- 37:22Speaker 3: you know, he's not geting himself any fevers at the minute.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Sorry, like having this great profile in.
- 37:26Speaker 3: That he needs some pr some ones well, his record
- 37:31Speaker 3: actually in the Premier League is not too bad. But
- 37:33Speaker 3: the stuff he's coming out with toy at the end
- 37:36Speaker 3: of it, you know, just you don't have to explain everything,
- 37:38Speaker 3: you know what I mean, And maybe that'll come with experience.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I don't really like this great carry regrets if you
- 37:43Speaker 1: get any regrets from your playing days.
- 37:46Speaker 2: We all do, don't.
- 37:46Speaker 3: We got a couple first time at Wembley was recruiting
- 37:51Speaker 3: the playoff final and just so late inexperienced said looking
- 37:57Speaker 3: forward to Wembley, didn't think about game, just the whole occasion,
- 38:01Speaker 3: and then when the game actually came, the reality was.
- 38:04Speaker 3: I played Crop, you know, and I thought, if I
- 38:06Speaker 3: ever get back, Yeah, if I ever get back, you know,
- 38:10Speaker 3: said of my players.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Now you know you got a chance to keep playing
- 38:12Speaker 2: at Hamdon.
- 38:13Speaker 3: Don't play the occasion, play the game, you know, try
- 38:16Speaker 3: to keep all the other stuff out, because I learned
- 38:19Speaker 3: we got beat on penalties, but I didn't play well.
- 38:21Speaker 3: And then next time he went back was the playoff
- 38:24Speaker 3: for Less. Then it was twenty one, you know, and
- 38:28Speaker 3: then well Leicester was twenty four and had a really
- 38:30Speaker 3: good game.
- 38:30Speaker 2: We got promoted.
- 38:31Speaker 3: So that was that was good, lucky that I got
- 38:33Speaker 3: the opportunity to go back again. Seville Seville's you know.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I had a League Cup against Tottenham we lost in
- 38:40Speaker 3: the last minute.
- 38:41Speaker 2: In eighty nine.
- 38:42Speaker 3: So there's a few, yeah, but not many I've been
- 38:47Speaker 3: you know. Fortunately, you know what I got really fed
- 38:50Speaker 3: a crew off to the injury. In my career just
- 38:53Speaker 3: kept going that way, you know. But I'm really like
- 38:55Speaker 3: I played League two, League One, Championship, Premier League and
- 38:58Speaker 3: then up here in Scotland, so I've had a lot
- 39:00Speaker 3: of variations on the game, and I came from nothing
- 39:03Speaker 3: and worked my way up. Some people say, you know,
- 39:05Speaker 3: and they think, oh, you've had it your you know,
- 39:07Speaker 3: you've been at solid all your life. Well I was
- 39:09Speaker 3: twenty nine. Will come to Celtic like, you know, you've
- 39:11Speaker 3: done the same. You boys did the same. You know,
- 39:13Speaker 3: you know you've got well grinded and then you appreciated
- 39:16Speaker 3: what you had.
- 39:17Speaker 2: But regrets. Yeah, it's just some games that got away you.
- 39:20Speaker 1: It's avill win that team in the Champions League. A
- 39:25Speaker 1: couple of years as well, there was a little results here.
- 39:27Speaker 1: Remember the Bayern Munich when I think it was a Leon.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Leon Munich, that team when when you can you were
- 39:34Speaker 2: actually better. The year after I think you can.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Wind the Champions League be falling year, don't they? They
- 39:40Speaker 4: won it?
- 39:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you got player the year that year, didn't they?
- 39:44Speaker 3: So the year after Seville, right, we drew now a
- 39:47Speaker 3: little bit them Firman Open Game of the season and
- 39:49Speaker 3: then we won the next one the next twenty six Right,
- 39:53Speaker 3: we got seven of your points in the group we're
- 39:56Speaker 3: in with and a leg Bar Munich and Leo and
- 39:59Speaker 3: we should have them through the group, you know, because
- 40:01Speaker 3: we were got real associated in the last sixteen and
- 40:04Speaker 3: we would have fancied that get.
- 40:05Speaker 4: To that knockout stage when you've got the likes of Henrick.
- 40:07Speaker 3: And we were three and then we give a penalty
- 40:13Speaker 3: in the last couple of minutes and Leon who were
- 40:15Speaker 3: a good team better you know, Giugenio or Geno and yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 3: in the penalty at the end, you know, so, yeah,
- 40:24Speaker 3: we let ourselves down a wee bit there that we
- 40:26Speaker 3: should have come out of that. And then, as you said,
- 40:28Speaker 3: the knockouts, you just never know.
- 40:30Speaker 2: You never know.
- 40:31Speaker 3: In the end, we don't the quality and that team
- 40:33Speaker 3: in the end we would be Barcelona, didn't it. And
- 40:37Speaker 3: then villary Alanna said they were good, said and we're
- 40:42Speaker 3: just a little bit short of being a real top
- 40:45Speaker 3: European team. We're top British team, like the top European
- 40:49Speaker 3: just a little bit. Weren't million miles away from Portal.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I thought, like second half in Portal, we were getting
- 40:54Speaker 3: on top. We got the two two. I thought, we've
- 40:57Speaker 3: got them here and then the red card changed the
- 40:59Speaker 3: game again. But there was nothing happening to he was there,
- 41:02Speaker 3: you know, up until the goal. You know, we're so comfortable. Yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 3: you know in the time I still thought that.
- 41:09Speaker 5: I thought, what'st case, it would be penalties, you know,
- 41:12Speaker 5: but the sending off killed is that killed it?
- 41:16Speaker 2: But the referee was shocking. Referee was really poor. He
- 41:18Speaker 2: was really weak because we should have a free kick.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Hendrick should have got a free kick edge of the
- 41:23Speaker 3: box before Bubble got sand It was clear care Valley
- 41:26Speaker 3: was all over and brought him down. But we've played
- 41:28Speaker 3: on their break, their leg gets ahead of Bubo, Buble
- 41:31Speaker 3: takes them out and it was the second yellow.
- 41:33Speaker 2: But I thought the referee was really poor, isn't it.
- 41:35Speaker 5: I've never watched it back.
- 41:37Speaker 4: It was a bit to say you remember so much
- 41:38Speaker 4: that I was about to ask if you.
- 41:40Speaker 3: I've never watched it, but you remember. But yeah, you
- 41:42Speaker 3: do all the big games. But you know, it's like said, the.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Ones you lose, the ones you try and eradicate very quickly.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Maybe the shame of the a few games and thunder
- 41:52Speaker 1: neated the Cup final. Whenever watched it until lockdown, h
- 41:56Speaker 1: St Johnson.
- 41:58Speaker 2: That was the subtly park on it.
- 42:00Speaker 3: But you gotta be right, so well, I look at
- 42:03Speaker 3: it now, I look at all these great managers over
- 42:05Speaker 3: the years, and I look at all these great players
- 42:08Speaker 3: and that they.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Do win things tyme, but they do lose things as well.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Think Fergie lost Champions League finals PEP, PEP took Pep.
- 42:16Speaker 2: Maybe was it seven eight years to get back to.
- 42:19Speaker 3: The final after the Barcelona you know, and the semi finals,
- 42:23Speaker 3: you know, losing Fergie lost the league on the last
- 42:25Speaker 3: day of the season. Clubs lost European finals. So but
- 42:29Speaker 3: you got to go back again. You know, I know
- 42:31Speaker 3: what hurts like and I've lost semi finals and finals
- 42:34Speaker 3: and that.
- 42:34Speaker 2: But you think, right, let's have another crack up.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Actually in the next final which were lost to Celtic
- 42:41Speaker 5: with Ronnie Dallas team in the League Cup.
- 42:43Speaker 4: That was in the back that four games was that
- 42:46Speaker 4: high high?
- 42:46Speaker 5: The four games played on four games year?
- 42:49Speaker 2: Was that twenty fifteen?
- 42:50Speaker 3: You played four game games and guys and they just
- 42:53Speaker 3: signed chifty Armstrong on.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Someone that was McKay Stephen and Armstrong last day of
- 42:58Speaker 5: the window. Then they played them four games and the
- 43:00Speaker 5: bounds after that, you know, we put them in the
- 43:03Speaker 5: Scottish Cup, we drew with them, then we put them
- 43:05Speaker 5: in the league, then we put him in the League
- 43:07Speaker 5: Cup final. Actually, to my front, three were gone over
- 43:12Speaker 5: scoring federal to now and then looking at that mean
- 43:16Speaker 5: I was going to take Sean Dillon gets sent off.
- 43:19Speaker 5: Usually get the station, Sean Dillon get sent off, but
- 43:23Speaker 5: you actually get a bad tackle member and you get stitched.
- 43:28Speaker 5: And then it was taken forever to get them stitched.
- 43:30Speaker 5: And I was I was going to make a sub
- 43:34Speaker 5: and that's what he's just coming. He's just coming. And
- 43:36Speaker 5: then it comes back on and gets sent off. Anyway,
- 43:39Speaker 5: I took him off. You'll go after the event you
- 43:43Speaker 5: go off. I can't wish I'd done that.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Oh no, no, But you'll have loads of them, I do,
- 43:48Speaker 3: you know, But then there's loads of good ones that
- 43:50Speaker 3: you make the red decision.
- 43:50Speaker 2: But you never put yourself on the back for them.
- 43:52Speaker 5: You actually think, now like there you are. Now you
- 43:56Speaker 5: have a too change me. But in my approach because
- 43:59Speaker 5: of the Jenny is a.
- 44:00Speaker 3: Little bit you know, not totally, but yeah, a little
- 44:03Speaker 3: bit yeah, And you're a bit more mellow leg you know,
- 44:06Speaker 3: and a bit more understanding. But you still got that
- 44:09Speaker 3: drave and energy and you want that. Yeah, will you
- 44:13Speaker 3: gotta win? You know, you want to instill some of
- 44:16Speaker 3: them look at you and know what you're talking about.
- 44:17Speaker 2: But then they start.
- 44:18Speaker 3: To realize, you know, when you see the evidence on
- 44:20Speaker 3: the pay oh yeah, get it now, like and you know,
- 44:22Speaker 3: it's like it becomes addictive, you know, if you really
- 44:25Speaker 3: want it, like if you really got the sames to
- 44:27Speaker 3: be a player, it becomes addictive and you want more
- 44:29Speaker 3: of it. So yeah, I'm really enjoying what I'm doing.
- 44:33Speaker 3: Had a good experience, like you know, you've talked about
- 44:36Speaker 3: COVID earlier on, but a lot of things were out
- 44:38Speaker 3: of control anyway that happened. But at the year in Sapris,
- 44:41Speaker 3: which I really enjoyed as well, you know, and then
- 44:44Speaker 3: you know we want to Cup and get into the
- 44:46Speaker 3: Europa League. Played manuated. It's fantastic experience living out there
- 44:49Speaker 3: for a year, and then you know the short stint
- 44:52Speaker 3: and beaker rest, which is what it is when you
- 44:54Speaker 3: had fave games one defeat, but they decided.
- 44:56Speaker 2: To change things. So it's nice to be back, you know,
- 45:00Speaker 2: like this up.
- 45:00Speaker 3: I wasn't going to take it and they only taught
- 45:02Speaker 3: me into doing it, and yeah, I'm really enjoying it.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Okay, So what we're going to do is every week
- 45:07Speaker 1: we're going to get you to recommend for our next
- 45:10Speaker 1: guest who you don't know, but I'll give you a clue.
- 45:14Speaker 4: It's a band that are coming on.
- 45:16Speaker 1: And you have to recommend a film, a song and
- 45:21Speaker 1: album for a band.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Hell three film center, a woman film, love a film.
- 45:33Speaker 2: It's probably a good film.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Actually starting watch that with my boy, superb.
- 45:37Speaker 2: That's a good one of the words for your boy.
- 45:40Speaker 2: What was the next one?
- 45:41Speaker 4: A song?
- 45:42Speaker 3: Mm?
- 45:43Speaker 2: Hmm one by you? Two?
- 45:49Speaker 4: Good pick? And finally a band or an album? You pick?
- 45:55Speaker 5: Uh?
- 45:58Speaker 2: Albums and funny ones, aren't I think I've got to
- 46:04Speaker 2: go definitely maybe, do you know what I mean?
- 46:06Speaker 3: Because the first yeah four, I mean, like the first
- 46:10Speaker 3: sort of first song comes almost rock an roll star
- 46:13Speaker 3: and it just gets you going. I love Colombia as
