- 0:00Hello there , market mavens and curious capitalists !
- 0:03Welcome back to another episode of Spy Trader .
- 0:06It is 6 am on Sunday , March 15th , 2026 , here in sunny Pacific time .
- 0:14I am your host , Penny Pincher , and I am so glad you are joining me today to get a head start on what is shaping up to be a very big week on Wall Street .
- 0:24We are looking at a market that is shifting gears from simple AI excitement to realworld AI implementation , and we have some heavyhitting economic events on the calendar .
- 0:34Let's dive right into the summary of the news you need to know .
- 0:38The main event this week is the Federal Open Market Committee meeting , which wraps up this Wednesday , March 18th .
- 0:45Everyone is watching to see if the Fed will hold rates steady , especially since February's inflation data came in a little hotter than expected .
- 0:54We also have retail sales data coming out Monday , which will tell us how the American consumer is holding up .
- 1:01To top it all off , Friday , March 20th , is Quadruple Witching day .
- 1:06That is when a bunch of different options and futures expire at once , so expect a lot of trading volume in big funds like the SPY and the QQQ .
- 1:15Looking at our analysis , we are seeing a real evolution in the tech sector .
- 1:19We have moved past the hype , and now investors want to see the money .
- 1:24While Nvidia continues to dominate the hardware space , software giants like Microsoft are now under the microscope to prove that their Copilot subscriptions are actually boosting their profit margins .
- 1:36Over in financials , banks like JPMorgan Chase are seeing some better margins as the yield curve changes , though midcap banks are still sweating a bit over commercial real estate .
- 1:48And do not forget the energy sector !
- 1:51Crude oil is sitting around eightyfive dollars a barrel , making the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund , or XLE , a favorite for value hunters right now .
- 2:01We are also keeping an eye on two specific company events : Nvidia’s GTC 2026 conference , where we might see a glimpse of their nextgeneration tech , and Eli Lilly , which is releasing data on its new metabolic drugs that could move the entire healthcare sector .
- 2:19Now , let’s talk strategy .
- 2:21Based on the current climate , I have four specific recommendations for your portfolio .
- 2:26First , for defensive core positioning , look at the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , ticker VTI .
- 2:34With the Fed meeting and Friday's volatility , VTI offers broader exposure than the topheavy S&P 500 .
- 2:41Second , if you want growth with a safety net , Microsoft is a great ' flight to quality ' destination because of its steady cash flow from Office 365 and Azure .
- 2:53Third , if you want to hedge against interest rate changes , consider the iShares 20 plus Year Treasury Bond ETF , or TLT .
- 3:01If the Fed sounds even a little bit friendly on Wednesday , TLT could see a nice price jump .
- 3:07Finally , for a tactical value play , Exxon Mobil or the XLE energy ETF are great inflation hedges since global demand is staying firm .
- 3:17To wrap it all up , expect the market to move sideways for a couple of days before a big move on Wednesday afternoon .
- 3:25Keep your eyes on VTI for safety and TLT for those interest rate gains .
- 3:30Thanks for listening to Spy Trader .
