- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, yo, yo yo, come n throw you alive
- 0:08Speaker 1: from Philly. It's the Polly and Tony Foolsco. Yo yo,
- 0:12Speaker 1: yeas always Polly Foolsco. Here with Tony Foolsco and Tony.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We made headlines again last week we did. We had
- 0:20Speaker 1: Ryan Leaf the quarterback on the show, and we proved,
- 0:25Speaker 1: proved beyond the shadow of a doubt why he was
- 0:28Speaker 1: the better QB than Peyton Man in case closed. Anyway,
- 0:33Speaker 1: this week we're gonna make headlines again because we're gonna
- 0:36Speaker 1: talk about a huge scandal in the sport of horse racing. Now,
- 0:40Speaker 1: we don't usually talk horse racing because you know, let's
- 0:42Speaker 1: face it, it's ratings poison. But the scandal involving Bob
- 0:46Speaker 1: Baffett and the Kentucky Derby is huge news. Everybody I
- 0:50Speaker 1: know who cares about horse racing, they're all talking about it,
- 0:54Speaker 1: all three or four of them. And that's why we're
- 0:56Speaker 1: gonna have on the show this guy. Yeah, you know
- 0:58Speaker 1: him from Monday Night football, College Football, ESPN, ABC whatever,
- 1:03Speaker 1: that's neither here nor there, we don't get. He's the
- 1:05Speaker 1: guy who was the voice of horse racing for ABC
- 1:08Speaker 1: and ESPN for years from the mid two thousands on
- 1:12Speaker 1: Joe tests it or and we're gonna bring him on
- 1:14Speaker 1: and you know, Tony, we're gonna ask him some tough questions,
- 1:17Speaker 1: you know, ask him if he saw anything you know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: suspicious strange going on journalism. Yeah, but first, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 1: we gotta go deep on the story. And that's why
- 1:27Speaker 1: we're gonna do a segment because this is huge news.
- 1:29Speaker 1: We're gonna do a segment called huge news news. Alright.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Bob Baffort, the trainer banned from Churchill Downs because his
- 1:40Speaker 1: horse Madona Spirit, which won the Kentucky Derby, tested positive
- 1:45Speaker 1: for an anti inflammatory steroid called beta method auto zone.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Now Baffort is saying this is unfair and he's being wronged,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and then he is the victim of cancel culture, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 1: just like Roseanne and that Batch like and I gotta say, Tony,
- 2:02Speaker 1: he is totally right. Absolutely, people are reacting without understanding
- 2:08Speaker 1: the history here. So it's our duty as historians of
- 2:12Speaker 1: every sport to tell you about it. Yep. And ever
- 2:16Speaker 1: since the dawn of horse racing, trainers have been injecting
- 2:19Speaker 1: all kinds of weird shipped into these horses. You think
- 2:22Speaker 1: an anti inflammatory steroid is a big deal. That's child's play,
- 2:27Speaker 1: right Tony. Of course, you know that in the old days,
- 2:31Speaker 1: trainers used to inject horses with everything from cow pis
- 2:35Speaker 1: to pig seamen, to cobra venom to sub zero power
- 2:40Speaker 1: aid to Penn's oil, and then of course also the
- 2:44Speaker 1: gypsy blood. You know, people forget that Secretariat, one of
- 2:49Speaker 1: the greatest horses ever, was basically just a high functioning
- 2:53Speaker 1: drug addict. Yeah, and it was so sad because you know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: towards the end of his career, people would see him
- 2:59Speaker 1: at state fairs begging for horse feed and pig semen. Yep.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It was one of those rare instances where the drug
- 3:07Speaker 1: addict was performing sexual favors, not for money, but just
- 3:12Speaker 1: for the semen. Itself tragic, but also makes total sense
- 3:17Speaker 1: to yep. And you know some people out there and
- 3:19Speaker 1: they say, all these drugs are so bad for the sport.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Have you seen the ratings for horse racing this year?
- 3:26Speaker 1: Huge numbers, And you want to know why. It's clear
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's because you had a chemical fueled monstrosity of science
- 3:32Speaker 1: galloping the victory. And this is nothing. No, it worked
- 3:36Speaker 1: for baseball, remember Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa, people don't
- 3:40Speaker 1: know this, but they were actually connected to radio controlled
- 3:44Speaker 1: I v s during the games, and when bud Selig
- 3:48Speaker 1: noticed the TV ratings were dropping, he would press a
- 3:51Speaker 1: button and it would release more steroids into their systems
- 3:55Speaker 1: and it worked like a charm, you know, Tony. The
- 3:59Speaker 1: real tragedy here in this whole Bafford story is that
- 4:02Speaker 1: I just hate to see a good decent sport like
- 4:05Speaker 1: horse racing get its reputation tarnished so badly. And uh,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know who. I feel most sorry for all those
- 4:13Speaker 1: good you know as Salt of the Earth horse owners
- 4:15Speaker 1: who have given up so much of their hard earned money,
- 4:19Speaker 1: their four oh one case they're offshore bank accounts, only
- 4:22Speaker 1: to watch their steroid filled monstrosity lose to another steroid
- 4:26Speaker 1: field monstrosity. Yeah, you know, Tony, I hate to bring
- 4:31Speaker 1: our guests on the show on such a downer note
- 4:34Speaker 1: on that. Maybe we should look at the bright side here,
- 4:36Speaker 1: And that was one of the greatest segments we've ever done. See,
- 4:41Speaker 1: we turned it around and we found a positive in
- 4:45Speaker 1: this whole situation. You're welcome anyway. Our guest is coming
- 4:49Speaker 1: on the line, so let's get him on the full
- 4:51Speaker 1: SCO satellite Network Satellite. Alright, this guy, big time play
- 4:58Speaker 1: by play guy. You know you've in him on Monday
- 5:01Speaker 1: Night Football college Football ESPN and Hey, if you're one
- 5:04Speaker 1: of the two under people who watched Friday Night Fights,
- 5:07Speaker 1: you know him from there too. Now we hosts Holy
- 5:10Speaker 1: Moldy on ABC. Look blah blah blah when I need
- 5:13Speaker 1: to talk about that ship. The reason he's on is basically, Hey,
- 5:16Speaker 1: he was the voice of horse racing for ESPN and
- 5:18Speaker 1: ABC from the mid two thousands on. Let's get him
- 5:21Speaker 1: on here, Joe test it to Welcome to the show. Welcome, Hey,
- 5:25Speaker 1: thanks for having me. What's going on? Guys, Well, you
- 5:28Speaker 1: by now you should know what's going on. You know
- 5:30Speaker 1: you must have heard about this situation with Bob Baffort. Uh,
- 5:35Speaker 1: isn't it just terrible? Uh? Listen to the reality is
- 5:41Speaker 1: is that you know, drugs have been in drug testing
- 5:44Speaker 1: have been a part of horse racing, an issue in
- 5:46Speaker 1: horse racing um for quite some time now, and this
- 5:49Speaker 1: isn't the first time that we dealt with it, and
- 5:51Speaker 1: this won't be the last time. I think. Obviously, you
- 5:54Speaker 1: worry about the credibility of the sport, You worry about
- 5:57Speaker 1: consumer confidence when you make a bet um and Baffort
- 6:01Speaker 1: is the face of the sport. He's the winner in
- 6:04Speaker 1: the sport, he's the franchise. So you've got the biggest
- 6:07Speaker 1: name dealing with the biggest headache. You're gonna have a
- 6:10Speaker 1: lot of people with strong opinions, don't Don't you think
- 6:12Speaker 1: Baffat is being unfairly pocketed when he's simply carrying on
- 6:17Speaker 1: the proud tradition of injecting horses with tranquilizes and amphetamines
- 6:23Speaker 1: and other natural substances. Well, I don't know if i'm
- 6:26Speaker 1: natural substances. You know a lot of people out there
- 6:29Speaker 1: that say the sports should be at a base level,
- 6:31Speaker 1: nothing but hay and oats and water, and we shouldn't
- 6:34Speaker 1: be going down this road. Listen. It was about ten
- 6:38Speaker 1: years ago there was a major incident in Kentucky where
- 6:41Speaker 1: a fairly sizeable group of horses with a prominent trainer, um,
- 6:46Speaker 1: we're being injected with cobra venom, snake venom into the joint.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So they were no, it's not good stuff. No, no, no, no,
- 6:54Speaker 1: not good stuff. I mean, Tony, are you putting snake
- 6:56Speaker 1: venom into your joints? I mean, you're going out doing
- 6:58Speaker 1: road work through South Billy and loading yourself up with
- 7:01Speaker 1: cobra venum just so you can get in a few
- 7:02Speaker 1: extra miles. You know, there was the controversy over the
- 7:06Speaker 1: Fish and Fry Round Robins Softball Championship. Why I was
- 7:10Speaker 1: accused of cobra venum, but no comment on that. We
- 7:13Speaker 1: just came back negative, no cobra venum. They did find
- 7:17Speaker 1: big seamen, but no cobra venum. I'm sorry they found
- 7:20Speaker 1: what Big Seaman. You know, Big Seamen time tested the
- 7:24Speaker 1: all natural steroids and that's performance enhancing. Oh yeah, oh
- 7:30Speaker 1: you should yet Tony hit about nine home runs that day. Look,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you you were there in right when American Pharaoh was there.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You were on the grounds there. Yeah, you know what
- 7:45Speaker 1: what a beautiful what a grand champions Pharaoh was beautifully
- 7:48Speaker 1: and I hate to see his reputation. Scott. When you
- 7:51Speaker 1: were there, did you see other trainers, you know, injecting
- 7:54Speaker 1: their their horses with co It's not no, no, no,
- 8:00Speaker 1: no no, listen, horses are treated all the time. The
- 8:04Speaker 1: steroid in fact, that Mendina's spirit you know that the
- 8:08Speaker 1: levels weren't cleared on is a common steroid that's used
- 8:11Speaker 1: in training all the time. These are elite athletes, not
- 8:15Speaker 1: unlike you know, listen NFL players. You guys are talking
- 8:18Speaker 1: about day in and day outer being treated with pain management.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Now there's performance enhancing and there's pain management. But the
- 8:24Speaker 1: world of thoroughbred racing, there is a certain amount of
- 8:28Speaker 1: drug use just to maintain the athletes standard. What we're
- 8:32Speaker 1: trying not to do is have it be harmful to
- 8:35Speaker 1: the horse. You don't want the horse running through injury.
- 8:38Speaker 1: You don't want the horse extending themselves and harming themselves
- 8:42Speaker 1: because they're loaded up on some substance where they can't
- 8:45Speaker 1: even tell that their joints. But you know, just look
- 8:49Speaker 1: at the flipping say that I work in the store
- 8:51Speaker 1: for twenty years. When I say it means something. Oh,
- 8:54Speaker 1: you got a bit of an ego on your hold
- 8:58Speaker 1: on the moment, you know all. You know, we were
- 9:00Speaker 1: on the twenty two years and cable access in Philly,
- 9:03Speaker 1: so you know, apples to apples with your career Number
- 9:06Speaker 1: two is a right come to think of the thing
- 9:08Speaker 1: from a businessman business perspective. Don't you think horse racing,
- 9:12Speaker 1: like baseball, would benefit if they put more drugs in
- 9:14Speaker 1: the sport. You know, just let it fly, you know,
- 9:17Speaker 1: just deep pumping them in there all the time in
- 9:20Speaker 1: the horse feed, and then we get some real ratings.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Come on, listen here, here's the bottom line. I find
- 9:27Speaker 1: it amazing that all of a sudden everybody is wildly
- 9:31Speaker 1: interested in horse racing at this level of talking about
- 9:35Speaker 1: it like a mainstream sport, when as of two weeks ago,
- 9:39Speaker 1: probably nine percent of countryn't couldn't tell me who Medinas
- 9:43Speaker 1: spirit was and most most people only care did the
- 9:47Speaker 1: winning ticket cash or not? You know, where is this
- 9:50Speaker 1: same crowd when it comes to the fifth race at
- 9:53Speaker 1: Belmont on a random Wednesday, or the wear and tear
- 9:56Speaker 1: at a horse that's running at a tertiary track in Louisiana.
- 10:00Speaker 1: All You're right, not all people can be alcoholics. That's
- 10:02Speaker 1: true that Joe, you're talking to a first class degenerate
- 10:08Speaker 1: who grew up as a railbird mincher. Yeah, exactly. Now, Joe,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I have a question for you. Have you met Bob Baffort,
- 10:15Speaker 1: Because to us he seems like a real quality individual.
- 10:19Speaker 1: And I've always said you can tell a lot how
- 10:23Speaker 1: a guy keeps his hair. He's got tremendous hair, and
- 10:27Speaker 1: I think it says a lot about him don't you.
- 10:30Speaker 1: He does have a beautiful head of hair. But yes, obviously,
- 10:33Speaker 1: working in the sport as long as I have, I've
- 10:36Speaker 1: been with Bob on many occasions. I've I've been at
- 10:39Speaker 1: Bob at Saratoga and Churchill Downs and and um del
- 10:43Speaker 1: Mar with him. I've been at Bob been with Bob
- 10:46Speaker 1: at six o'clock in the morning, watching a two year
- 10:48Speaker 1: old gallop and just talking the game. Um. And he's
- 10:52Speaker 1: a wonderful guy, and he's been a wonderful ambassador for
- 10:54Speaker 1: the sport even you know, yes, he has orious hair,
- 10:56Speaker 1: but he's one of the great winners and great champions
- 10:59Speaker 1: of the sports. So you would hate to think that
- 11:02Speaker 1: he would and I know he would need to think
- 11:04Speaker 1: that his name is being associated with anything that would
- 11:07Speaker 1: be harmful to the image and the grand legacy of
- 11:09Speaker 1: the sport, not just the big play. Did he ever
- 11:11Speaker 1: say to you, you know, hey, Joe, can you just
- 11:13Speaker 1: told this syringe for a moment? Um? No, no, no,
- 11:17Speaker 1: that never happens. You have to say, hold up this
- 11:19Speaker 1: horse's stair while I inject him. That have happened? Pointing
- 11:22Speaker 1: a finger PAULI at Bob Bafford. Bob Bafford is a
- 11:26Speaker 1: guy who have had great respect for for many years.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Bob Bafford is a guy who's been a friend, who
- 11:30Speaker 1: I've socialized with, I've had a professional relationship with, who
- 11:34Speaker 1: I've seen at the highest heights. I've never seen a syringe.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I've never seen drugs that are seeing Bob harm a
- 11:39Speaker 1: horse at all. So, just to be clear, he never
- 11:42Speaker 1: asked you to wipe an area with an alcohol gauze. No, no,
- 11:47Speaker 1: no gauze nothing. Never saw it. You know, I question
- 11:52Speaker 1: your journalism skills, then I questioned you have skills that
- 11:56Speaker 1: they have. Yeah, well then I can see why. No
- 11:58Speaker 1: that this little about you. Why did ESPN assign you
- 12:02Speaker 1: to do play by play for horse racing? Could they
- 12:05Speaker 1: not find an intern to do it? Was that the situation. Listen,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I did such a good job that we no longer
- 12:12Speaker 1: carry the sport. It's all on NBC now, Oh, well,
- 12:15Speaker 1: well done, well done. Uh you know I have a
- 12:19Speaker 1: question too. Did you get jealous of your colleagues because
- 12:22Speaker 1: they got to hang out with glamorous pro athletes at
- 12:26Speaker 1: big sporting events and you had to stand around horsebawn
- 12:30Speaker 1: smelling horse ship all day? Yeah? When the best advice
- 12:38Speaker 1: you get on your job is don't replace the steaming divits. Yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 1: you're looking for a career upgrade. Were you not good
- 12:44Speaker 1: enough for the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest? Right? Exactly exactly?
- 12:50Speaker 1: I need a better agent. Yeah, alright, look, all right,
- 12:53Speaker 1: we know you came on here because you want to
- 12:54Speaker 1: plug something as y'all though, all well you should know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I mean, now, you are professional in this business. I
- 13:03Speaker 1: forget what do you want to plug next? What should
- 13:04Speaker 1: we I don't want to plug anything. I want to
- 13:06Speaker 1: talk about. The show is the Holy Moly? Yeah, you're
- 13:10Speaker 1: you're on the show, which you're a fan of the show, Polis,
- 13:12Speaker 1: Absolutely not. In fact, let me tell you the show.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Are you still talking? Seventeen? You don't mind of the show? ABC?
- 13:22Speaker 1: Season three of Goalie Look, Steph Clurry executive producers robbed
- 13:29Speaker 1: with a quarter million dollars on the line. Yeah, you've
- 13:33Speaker 1: got mini golf down there and still everybody from Philly
- 13:39Speaker 1: going to the Jersey countries behind me. If you'd stop
- 13:44Speaker 1: talking shot and I but but legends. In fact, that's
- 13:48Speaker 1: why we find your show so atrocious. You know, like
- 13:52Speaker 1: horse racing Putt Putt is that terrific spot with a
- 13:55Speaker 1: proud tradition. You come up with all these you know,
- 13:58Speaker 1: ridiculous holes. Don't you think you're making a mockery of
- 14:01Speaker 1: the sacred sport. But see, I think we're elevating this sport.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I think by lighting people on fire, by throwing them
- 14:08Speaker 1: off the cliffs, by having them go on the high
- 14:11Speaker 1: steed tension wire zip lines into polls, I think we're
- 14:14Speaker 1: elevating the sport. By having them ride mechanical gophers and
- 14:17Speaker 1: being dumped into gopher done. I think we're elevating the sport.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Push you put a quarter million dollars on the line.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I mean, this is, this is TV. You don't know
- 14:24Speaker 1: how to make TV. We're gonna tell you how to
- 14:26Speaker 1: make TV. We're gonna pitch you a show. This is
- 14:32Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question. Because he got here tonight,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you're literally you can't stop talking about everything that's happened.
- 14:42Speaker 1: This is I would be a contestant on all the
- 14:45Speaker 1: shows we're about to pitch you right now. Do you
- 14:48Speaker 1: have some game show ideas? Yes? You you believe that
- 14:52Speaker 1: you you think you can do better than the holy
- 14:54Speaker 1: you think. Yeah, I could walk into my ABC bosses
- 14:56Speaker 1: and say, hey, listen, Tony and Paul Fusco have show.
- 15:00Speaker 1: We're gonna be they're gonna be begging when all right,
- 15:04Speaker 1: here we go, here we go, here we go. Now
- 15:06Speaker 1: this is holy Moli meets another great show. This is
- 15:09Speaker 1: how you do a pitch people. You ever hear that
- 15:12Speaker 1: choke called fear Factor? Of course? All right, well here
- 15:16Speaker 1: you go. We get eight horses. Okay. Then like on
- 15:20Speaker 1: Fear Factor, we put out a bunch of different performance enhances,
- 15:24Speaker 1: everything like big semen, bull semen, shock cartilage, sub zero power,
- 15:28Speaker 1: auada a Lustra boat docs of course, nitrous oxide. We
- 15:32Speaker 1: put each horse every week full of a different substance,
- 15:36Speaker 1: and then we raise them to see who wins. It's
- 15:39Speaker 1: called horse Fact. Boom, horse Factor. Okay, and you believe
- 15:49Speaker 1: that at the network level that they would buy into this, Yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 1: this is huge. Meaning is waiting to happen horse Factor.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think you're just jealous because we didn't offer you
- 16:00Speaker 1: to be the host of the show. And you know
- 16:02Speaker 1: why I'm not going to offer that position to you
- 16:05Speaker 1: because you talk over the entire show. Nobody would be
- 16:08Speaker 1: able to hear what's going on. Yeah, we got a
- 16:10Speaker 1: show for you. It's called Off the Show and the
- 16:25Speaker 1: Horse throwing up these factor go right off into the
- 16:29Speaker 1: spector asked, hang up the fall, what is going on?
- 16:34Speaker 1: Call a T and T and have them pull the
- 16:36Speaker 1: line terrible? Can you believe the ego on that guy?
- 16:40Speaker 1: I would have preferred Joe lesser tour good one, Tony. Anyway,
- 16:46Speaker 1: We're not gonna let that interrupt the show because, as
- 16:48Speaker 1: always we have huge business to do. Another big sponsor
- 16:52Speaker 1: we got lined up, a big name in the area
- 16:55Speaker 1: of floral arrangements, One eight hundred Flowers. Did you forget
- 17:00Speaker 1: to get your mother something for Mother's Day? Does she
- 17:04Speaker 1: hate your guts now? Does she call you an ungrateful
- 17:07Speaker 1: ship bag or something like that? Have no fear. One
- 17:11Speaker 1: eight hundred Flowers is there for you and Tony. You
- 17:15Speaker 1: just had a great experience with this company. They just
- 17:18Speaker 1: got you out of a jam, didn't they. Yeah. Monday morning,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I got a call around ten am and the phone
- 17:25Speaker 1: woke me up. It was my stepma and she said
- 17:29Speaker 1: forget something. I said no. She said, yesterday was Mother's
- 17:34Speaker 1: Day and you didn't get me anything? You ungrateful ship bag?
- 17:38Speaker 1: I said, would you relax? Lady? I got this. I
- 17:43Speaker 1: hung up the phone and dialed one eight hundred flowers
- 17:48Speaker 1: and within three business days they had a beautiful arrangement
- 17:52Speaker 1: of five Azalea's sent straight to my bitch step mom.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That day she texted me and said, got the flowers,
- 18:02Speaker 1: and that's all she needed to say. I'm back in
- 18:05Speaker 1: her good graces. I showed her how much I tolerate her.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And it only cost me nineteen dollars and twenty three
- 18:13Speaker 1: cents plus shipping and handling. What a wonderful story and
- 18:19Speaker 1: a testament to how one eight hundred flowers can bring
- 18:22Speaker 1: joy to anybody. Go to one eight hundred flowers dot
- 18:25Speaker 1: com right now, enter the coupon called Polly and Tony
- 18:29Speaker 1: Flawless Show twenty and they'll give you one point to
- 18:31Speaker 1: percent off. Alright, well that wraps up an advertisement there,
- 18:37Speaker 1: and oh look at that. That wraps up the show.
- 18:39Speaker 1: So you know we're gonna what producer if it isn't producer,
- 18:47Speaker 1: Jay the Horses asked of the sports media in discreet corrections,
- 18:52Speaker 1: what Polly you said The steroid that was found in
- 18:56Speaker 1: Bob Badford's horse was beat on metha AutoZone. It's beta
- 19:00Speaker 1: metha zone. I don't know how you got auto zone
- 19:04Speaker 1: in there. Oh, Yeah, well you just reminded me I
- 19:09Speaker 1: auto zone off the area surrounding your home and lava
- 19:13Speaker 1: grenade in there. Yeah, you just tested positive for beta
- 19:18Speaker 1: male zone. Good one, right enough at you, Tony. While
- 19:22Speaker 1: it's true that people have injected cobra venomon to a horse,
- 19:26Speaker 1: as Joe mentioned, no horse has ever tested positive for
