- 3:28Speaker 1: I got questions. I'm just like wondering, like you know, why,
- 3:33Speaker 1: you know, I'm like Jadakin's over here, why.
- 3:35Speaker 3: That's gonna be the that's gonna be the title, I
- 3:37Speaker 3: got questions.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, why you know, by the bush not down the towers,
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, I gottnat know.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah that was a good song though, but yeah, man, welcome.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Listen. Ironheart finale went down. If you have not.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Definitely watched our review of the final three episodes, we
- 4:02Speaker 2: actually of a and of course I hope of just
- 4:04Speaker 2: the first season even though this is a mini series.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But we were joined by Genesia f along with Chris Lambert.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Thank you both very much for your time and energy,
- 4:14Speaker 2: comedy and everything in between, because it was a fire review.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I'm happy with, more than happy with the way it ended.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And also the finale or the ending of iron Heart
- 4:25Speaker 2: actually closes out the end of the fifth phase of
- 4:28Speaker 2: the MCU.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah I didn't realize that. Yeah, yeah, that's dope that
- 4:34Speaker 1: they gave that, you know, a little credit to Ironheart.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And despite the haters, it's now positive certified fresh on
- 4:42Speaker 1: Rotten Tomatoes, including our reviews up there too, So I
- 4:46Speaker 1: mean we are part of you know, the legions over
- 4:48Speaker 1: there Rotten Tomatoes. So thank you very much for that honor.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And like we said, like Tatowna said, you can keep
- 4:54Speaker 1: our review right now on YouTube. We did the whole
- 4:59Speaker 1: last four or five six episodes and you can also
- 5:01Speaker 1: keep each individual episode review, so yeah, you know, we
- 5:05Speaker 1: got that for you. Yeah, and big things happened in
- 5:09Speaker 1: that you know finale. And you know my immediate question
- 5:13Speaker 1: because I was wondering, I did not see her name
- 5:15Speaker 1: Dominie Thorne when they did the whole chair announcement for Doomsday,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and I googled her name was not one of the chairs.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But she has hinted that she will show up in Doomsday,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and even Lady J had already said that there's more
- 5:30Speaker 1: names to come.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And Ryan Coogler said in an interview or something with
- 5:36Speaker 2: Deadline that this this series has major implications into Doomsday.
- 5:42Speaker 2: So that's why I'm That's what I'm thinking, like, she
- 5:45Speaker 2: gotta be in it somehow.
- 5:46Speaker 1: All right, now, this is something that I didn't say
- 5:48Speaker 1: on the review because I did mention that, and I, yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 1: this is now when this drops us to be well
- 5:54Speaker 1: over a week later or I mean close to week later,
- 5:56Speaker 1: So I can you know, spoilers if you haven't seen
- 5:58Speaker 1: I on her all right, and if you her head
- 6:00Speaker 1: has been stuck in a rock for the last seven
- 6:02Speaker 1: days or something, but spoilers out the way Mephisto appears
- 6:08Speaker 1: in the finale of Ironhart. And what I did not
- 6:11Speaker 1: say on our review is that I've mentioned that when
- 6:14Speaker 1: I was coming up, Mephisto appeared in a lot of
- 6:16Speaker 1: Silver Surfer coming to Stead. He's trying to get a
- 6:18Speaker 1: Silver Surfer soul because silver Surfer, you know, is that
- 6:21Speaker 1: pure paragon of good. And he was like, oh, I
- 6:23Speaker 1: I can corrupt this one. I get them all. But
- 6:26Speaker 1: another big Mephisto storyline that is always running is that Mephisto,
- 6:32Speaker 1: because he is the representation of Marvel's devil, has possession
- 6:36Speaker 1: of Doctor Doom's mother's soul. And that's something Doom has
- 6:41Speaker 1: always been trying to do, is to free her mother,
- 6:43Speaker 1: of his mother from this hell that she's trapped in.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And that's why Doom, because for those who know Doom
- 6:51Speaker 1: is like he's read Richard's and he's doctor Strange. Doom
- 6:54Speaker 1: is both a scientist and a magician, right, and he
- 6:58Speaker 1: learns magic because his mother was in the dark magic
- 7:01Speaker 1: and that's how our soul ends up getting trapped. And
- 7:03Speaker 1: so he learns magic enough hopes to free his mother's soul.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And that's like one of his big goals. It's like
- 7:10Speaker 1: list of I think three big things is prove I'm
- 7:13Speaker 1: better than read Richard's Free my Mother's Soul and take
- 7:17Speaker 1: over the world.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Talk about biggest hater, the biggest.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Because it's like before free my Mother's Soul from Hell,
- 7:25Speaker 1: it's prove I'm better.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I'm a hater and I'm gonna show you why.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Like, no, he can't stand and that's one of the
- 7:33Speaker 2: things I love about him, Like he does not full punches.
- 7:36Speaker 3: He's just like this nigga is not nicer than me.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Let me show you.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I never see me. I can This nigga can't see me.
- 7:44Speaker 2: That is his That is Dum's mantra. This nigga can't
- 7:47Speaker 2: see me. You niggas can't see me.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Doctor. Dude is Mamba mentality, he said Coach. He knows
- 7:58Speaker 1: like none of nigga shul ever see me. I can't
- 8:00Speaker 1: believe y'all even put this nigg on the court, yes,
- 8:03Speaker 1: not to make.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Him stand next to me. You know that meme. I
- 8:06Speaker 3: thrive off negativity, that is doctor.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But the thing is he's like really super positive. You know,
- 8:14Speaker 1: like it's like you know, well, no like to Latviria.
- 8:17Speaker 1: You know that country is very well warn.
- 8:20Speaker 3: The country that he's the king of yeah, I.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Mean his own ship. Yes, because he believes I mean
- 8:26Speaker 1: and rightfully so he believes he can run the world
- 8:28Speaker 1: better than anyone else. And that's the funny thing right there,
- 8:32Speaker 1: right now, there's a come of the big summer series
- 8:36Speaker 1: for Marvel is One World Under Doom, where Doctor Doom
- 8:40Speaker 1: is taking over the world. He's running the world, not
- 8:42Speaker 1: like where he's you know, the king of the world.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Just where he's running the world and it's efficiently done.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Crime is gone down, crops is up, people, you know,
- 8:52Speaker 1: starvations out all the thing. There's no war, et cetera.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And so the heroes are sitting around like, yo, do
- 8:59Speaker 1: we knock him off? I mean, he's actually doing it
- 9:02Speaker 1: better than we did. And then the people were doing
- 9:05Speaker 1: And that's the thing. And it's funny because this is
- 9:07Speaker 1: a remake or I guess they're reboot, rehash whatever of
- 9:11Speaker 1: There was a graphic novel back in the day called
- 9:14Speaker 1: Emperor Doom and it was just one graphic novel. And
- 9:16Speaker 1: then the graphic novel, same thing happened. He takes over
- 9:18Speaker 1: the world, runs it better than them eventually, heroes. Dude,
- 9:21Speaker 1: because he's dude's using the Purple Man in that storyline
- 9:24Speaker 1: to broadcast like mind control over the world. Yeah, eventually
- 9:29Speaker 1: the heroes do come in. They end up killing the
- 9:31Speaker 1: Purple Man. They busted up, and is their flying home.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Is the Aventures are flying home. They're sitting there like, yo,
- 9:36Speaker 1: did we just do the right thing? You know, because
- 9:39Speaker 1: he was doing better? And they're like, I don't know,
- 9:43Speaker 1: And that's how the book ends.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So damn, Okay.
- 9:52Speaker 1: That's just amazing, Like it's such a great graphic novel.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I don't know this has been an end, but that
- 9:58Speaker 1: was such a great graphic novel because they busting they
- 10:00Speaker 1: killed this nigga, the Purple Man, you know, like I'm
- 10:03Speaker 1: sure he was doing bad, but they actually killed this man,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and then they fly home like I think, well, just.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Saying again, you know how you aspire to hate on
- 10:13Speaker 2: your ops, like Kendrick, I aspire to hate on my Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 1: So that being said, there's a good chance. I don't
- 10:23Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not sure if Fisto is going to
- 10:25Speaker 1: show up.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I think you need him to, you don't need him to.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I don't know if I mean, eventually he's going to
- 10:30Speaker 2: show up in the films, but I don't think you
- 10:32Speaker 2: need him.
- 10:33Speaker 3: There's too much crazy shit already happening and.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Doom everybody survives Doomsday and super Wars. But then that
- 10:42Speaker 1: being said, I don't know, because you know, depending on
- 10:46Speaker 1: what version of Secret Wars they do, that's like the
- 10:48Speaker 1: big battle between Doom and Read and you know, I
- 10:51Speaker 1: don't know what. We'll get there, we'll get there. But yes,
- 10:54Speaker 1: I actually do believe that he could show up in
- 10:56Speaker 1: Doomsday or at least be mentioned. And I don't know.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I don't know what does Doomsday storyline thro be about.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I don't know how they're gonna introduce dooms.
- 11:05Speaker 3: So it's like, which is because you know everything?
- 11:08Speaker 1: No, I love it, but I'm just wondering, Like, so,
- 11:10Speaker 1: if they do introduce Doom off something like yo, I'm
- 11:12Speaker 1: trying to get my mom back, then Mephisto got to
- 11:14Speaker 1: be in it, you know, or better, if they introduce
- 11:17Speaker 1: Doom like I'm the biggest hater, then you know, Mefisto
- 11:20Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily need to be in it.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I think either way, he don't necessarily need to be
- 11:24Speaker 3: in it.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Then drop the name, yeah, because now he's he's in
- 11:30Speaker 1: the MCU. There we go, yeah, yeah, and I need
- 11:34Speaker 1: to see I think we need to see Reread in Doomsday.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it would be nice, but but listen, Ryan himself said,
- 11:40Speaker 2: is she deeply not involved, but the implications of her
- 11:45Speaker 2: will show up in Doomsday.
- 11:48Speaker 1: So we're also seeing that whole Young Avengers Champions team.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's being formed through he which I love. You know, Zelma,
- 11:59Speaker 2: then you know who whatever's about to happen with the hood,
- 12:02Speaker 2: like there's something, there's stuff for me, and.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Then like you know, back on the other side, we
- 12:06Speaker 1: got America Chaves, we got Hawkeye. Look I funny, I'm
- 12:11Speaker 1: dead as I rewatched the multiverse man and as bad
- 12:16Speaker 1: they did my girl, it's not like a total butchering
- 12:19Speaker 1: where she can't come back from it.
- 12:20Speaker 2: But I might be talking about that whether she's bat
- 12:22Speaker 2: I'm talking about is she existing as a character because
- 12:25Speaker 2: the way that like they just ignore her, like that
- 12:28Speaker 2: she was around and she's like an intechnrial piece to
- 12:31Speaker 2: fucking multi versal travel multi.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Yeah, well she might I think you remember that might
- 12:36Speaker 1: be you know, she might be play a bigger role
- 12:39Speaker 1: in you know, doom, say, Secret Wars, and that might
- 12:42Speaker 1: be their way of forming up the younger I can
- 12:44Speaker 1: remember we have Hawkeye and what's that they met? Didn't Hawk?
- 12:49Speaker 1: Who did she meet with that? Miss Marvel? Miss Marvel,
- 12:53Speaker 1: Matt Hawkeye?
- 12:55Speaker 3: I think so young?
- 12:55Speaker 1: Hawk young? Yeah so? And in the comments iron Heart
- 13:00Speaker 1: part of the Champions, which I think Miss Marvel is
- 13:03Speaker 1: two at one point, so that, you know, that seems
- 13:06Speaker 1: like I think by the you know, by Avengers Secret Wars,
- 13:09Speaker 1: they're gonna have just like how they try to do
- 13:12Speaker 1: with the women. You know, we thought we might get
- 13:14Speaker 1: a fours and we never did. Like I think we're
- 13:17Speaker 1: definitely gonna get you know, a team up of the
- 13:19Speaker 1: younger kids.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Isn't that crazy that Hailey Steinfeld is Kate Bishop. I mean,
- 13:24Speaker 2: especially after seeing her in Centers and now I was
- 13:26Speaker 2: just like, damn, you gotta.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Go back to that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I can't look at her the same, no moment.
- 13:29Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 13:30Speaker 2: You even look at her same and you know she
- 13:32Speaker 2: she's I mean, she still looks you know, she's still
- 13:34Speaker 2: young or whatever, but like she is, she ain't.
- 13:38Speaker 1: A teenager, no, but I see most of them aren't.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Like that's why it's not the young Champions, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: like because they can't even call them young Avengers.
- 13:47Speaker 3: The only one as a kid really was Miss Marvel, like.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And uh, Chef has seemed pretty.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Young and America Yeah, I know, like Iman Vaalani, she's
- 13:57Speaker 2: she was pretty young.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Oh, up in their twenties.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Now they're on their twenties now, you know, and up
- 14:03Speaker 1: the young Avengers was supposed to all be real teenagers.
- 14:06Speaker 4: You know.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I was like, that's like, yeah, the Karen Gillan run
- 14:10Speaker 1: is specifically about them turning into adults, into eighteen year olds,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you know. That's like the whole thing is like they're
- 14:17Speaker 1: their feeling can't affect them when they become eighteen. I
- 14:19Speaker 1: can' remember howat words, but it's about that, you know.
- 14:21Speaker 1: The whole thing is about the damage. Yeah about age.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, all right.
- 14:26Speaker 2: There has been that's just gonna go through these kind
- 14:28Speaker 2: of quick like. There's been a lot of.
- 14:30Speaker 3: News for the TV specifically. I laughed at this.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Neil Druckman is done with the last of us, he says,
- 14:36Speaker 2: after this this season, being done or about to be overweight,
- 14:39Speaker 2: He's just like he ain't coming back. He got some
- 14:42Speaker 2: other he got better things to do at Naughty Dog,
- 14:44Speaker 2: with other games and stuff.
- 14:45Speaker 3: He's done.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I mean, I get it. There should only be like
- 14:47Speaker 1: one more season.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Right, I think, so out Yeah, I.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Know, like this season, but that season done. There should
- 14:56Speaker 1: be two more seasons. From what I understand, I thought
- 14:58Speaker 1: it was, well, he's involved with the next one, I think.
- 15:02Speaker 3: And he said he barely. He has not done anything
- 15:04Speaker 3: really material.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So he's takes he does announce that he's out.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Oh so he done? Now, so he done. So his
- 15:11Speaker 1: involvement is like what we've seen already or I didn't
- 15:15Speaker 1: see but.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Last but what has been already out?
- 15:18Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, so he's not he's not even in the
- 15:19Speaker 1: writer's room for the new one right now, Yeah, he said.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I mean even if he did a little bit of
- 15:23Speaker 2: something he had said specifically it was a little clip
- 15:26Speaker 2: on from his ig or whatever, and he was just like, yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 2: I haven't done anything too material for season three. So
- 15:31Speaker 2: he said, this is probably the time for me to
- 15:33Speaker 2: go since I you know, since so it's not it's
- 15:35Speaker 2: not gonna be one of situations where you could tell
- 15:37Speaker 2: us two different writers or something like that, right.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah that's smart. Yeah, well no, but from
- 15:43Speaker 1: what I understand, season three is not the last season.
- 15:45Speaker 1: It's definitely gonna go on for at least one more.
- 15:47Speaker 3: So good luck to y'all, because I don't think I'll
- 15:49Speaker 3: be watching.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I did not remember. Somebody left the comment they were
- 15:54Speaker 1: like they were surprised when I reviewed episode one, and
- 15:56Speaker 1: I was like, well, this is probably the last one,
- 15:58Speaker 1: and I did. I did review the first episode of
- 16:01Speaker 1: season two, and then I never watched another one and
- 16:03Speaker 1: I do not see myself doing it.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Wow.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I hope you all enjoyed it.
- 16:09Speaker 2: This piece of news I found very interesting because I
- 16:11Speaker 2: had no idea. So James Gunn recently came out talked
- 16:15Speaker 2: in an interview where he was talking about how how
- 16:19Speaker 2: I feel, how a lot of people feel, how like
- 16:20Speaker 2: when it comes to Superman house like as he is
- 16:23Speaker 2: a kid, he can never get over he can never
- 16:25Speaker 2: do that suspension of disbelief when like Superman wears glasses
- 16:29Speaker 2: and all of a sudden he's Clark Kn't like no
- 16:30Speaker 2: one could recognize him.
- 16:31Speaker 3: And I always thought that shit was stupid.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But it's just like, ain't no way, nigga, like he
- 16:35Speaker 2: don't look that different. And he said even in the
- 16:37Speaker 2: movies when the actors put on the glasses, he said,
- 16:39Speaker 2: they ain't that they don't look that different, right, and
- 16:43Speaker 2: then he said that he was speaking to Tom King.
- 16:47Speaker 2: He was speaking of Tom King, comic book writer. You know,
- 16:49Speaker 2: we know the legendary Tom King. And Tom King actually
- 16:53Speaker 2: told him, you know, actually that's Cannon.
- 16:55Speaker 3: That's comic book cannon.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Back in the day when swim men put on in
- 16:59Speaker 2: a glass is their hypno glasses and they kind of
- 17:03Speaker 2: hypnotize people. And said, thinking that he's some other guy,
- 17:06Speaker 2: Oh well, I didn't know that about Superman.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I was like, I right, all right, let me tell
- 17:11Speaker 1: you something. There's like what they call the Golden Age
- 17:14Speaker 1: of DC comments, which I think is like, oh god,
- 17:17Speaker 1: DC is so long in the tooth. I think nineteen
- 17:20Speaker 1: thirties whatever, nineteen, like when he's the thirties, thirties, forties, fifties, sixties,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I think, because it's like in the seventies when DC
- 17:29Speaker 1: starts getting into like the realness, and in the eighties
- 17:31Speaker 1: that's when like dark Night returns and it gets really
- 17:34Speaker 1: you know wild. But like before that, DC was outrageous,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and Superman is one of them niggas who is completely outrageous.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It like like Grant Morrison, really he he loves to
- 17:46Speaker 1: harp and reflect and remix a lot or they sorry, Grant,
- 17:50Speaker 1: they love to do all that type of things, and
- 17:54Speaker 1: his Batman would do it when he did Batman like
- 17:56Speaker 1: he there's this there's an old issue that Batman where
- 17:58Speaker 1: for some reason he's telling but I have to have
- 18:00Speaker 1: multi colored Batman suits. So he has like a pink one,
- 18:03Speaker 1: a purple one, a blue one, a green one, and
- 18:06Speaker 1: so Morrison did something with that. But it was some
- 18:09Speaker 1: ridiculousness back in the day, like Superman. You know there's
- 18:12Speaker 1: one there's a famous issue with Superman where he turns
- 18:14Speaker 1: Lowis Lane black. That's what I'm saying into a black
- 18:19Speaker 1: woman or woman or Superman had a miniature version of himself.
- 18:24Speaker 1: That was one of his superpowers. A mini he could
- 18:29Speaker 1: throw a tiny Superman out of his hand. I reject that,
- 18:33Speaker 1: and that little tiny Superman could go around.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And I didn't know this specifics like you're explaining, but
- 18:39Speaker 2: I always knew back in the day they had they
- 18:42Speaker 2: had wild powers for Superman because in the Christopher Reeves movie,
- 18:46Speaker 2: I don't remember it was like three or whatever number
- 18:48Speaker 2: it was, which movie it was, was, when he took
- 18:51Speaker 2: like he took it, I thought like, like not call yeah,
- 18:56Speaker 2: so he takes off the shield off his shirt and
- 18:58Speaker 2: it turns like a giant it's a cellophane and captures
- 19:02Speaker 2: the ops and they like and they and they captured
- 19:05Speaker 2: them into like you know, like.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Wrapped and wrapped up.
- 19:08Speaker 3: And I'm like, who mind you? This is years after
- 19:13Speaker 3: the fact, right this we talked about two thousands. I'm
- 19:15Speaker 3: wanted to sitting there on TV. I'm like, cry, what
- 19:17Speaker 3: about that?
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah? But that's how it was. It was like too
- 19:20Speaker 1: rare would just have the weirdest like the writings were
- 19:23Speaker 1: on major drugs is the only thing that I could
- 19:26Speaker 1: think about, because like the one where he grows this
- 19:28Speaker 1: little nigga out of his head is the most disturbing
- 19:30Speaker 1: shit in the world.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Why would he have that power? Guys like that doesn't
- 19:36Speaker 3: like the cellophane. I'm like, I guess hepe ship. Yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 3: why why miniature you? What's going on?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Why why do you Turn'slam black? And I remember Chico
- 19:48Speaker 1: put Chico shout out to Chico Lego. He put me
- 19:51Speaker 1: onto that one where he turns low Islam black. I
- 19:54Speaker 1: don't see she turned herself black or like, okay, now
- 19:57Speaker 1: this is something in the in the trailer for the
- 20:02Speaker 1: New Superman, we see uh Superman fighting a giant Kaiju. Yeah,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and there's a lot of time there's a lot of
- 20:10Speaker 1: rumors that that kaiju is Jimmy Olsen because in the comics, again,
- 20:15Speaker 1: especially in them old ones, and even in the All
- 20:18Speaker 1: Star Superman, which I was rereading because Dunn said that
- 20:21Speaker 1: the All Star is a big influence on the New Superman,
- 20:24Speaker 1: so I wanted to reread it before I saw it
- 20:27Speaker 1: in one of the issues of All Star Superman because
- 20:29Speaker 1: once again that's written by Grant Morrison, who loves history
- 20:32Speaker 1: of DC comments and all that there's an issue about
- 20:35Speaker 1: Jimmy Olsen, and in this issue, Jimmy is trying on
- 20:38Speaker 1: all kinds of outfits. He just it's Jimmy is super
- 20:42Speaker 1: weird and super out there throughout All Star Superman. But
- 20:46Speaker 1: one of the things back in the day and those
- 20:48Speaker 1: weird comics with Jimmy would turn in the Kaiju occasionally,
- 20:53Speaker 1: you know what I'm just because in the meels An issue,
- 21:01Speaker 1: he keeps doing this a day in the life of
- 21:03Speaker 1: and at one time he's a day in the life
- 21:05Speaker 1: of a caveman, you know, and he's actually a caveman.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And back in the you know, he goes back in
- 21:10Speaker 1: time to be a caveman. So that's how you know.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It was that kind of strangeness, and that's what All
- 21:16Speaker 1: Stars Superman really embraced, and that's what James Dunne seems
- 21:19Speaker 1: to be embracing. And that's why we have a kaju
- 21:21Speaker 1: fighting Superman in the middle of Metropolis because I think
- 21:25Speaker 1: and I think it is Jimmy Olsen transformed into a
- 21:27Speaker 1: kaju for some reason.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Guys, our review of Superman is coming. That's all I
- 21:31Speaker 3: got to say. Oh my god, thout.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Y'all don't understand, Like I wasn't like crazy hype for it.
- 21:40Speaker 1: We're gonna see. I was hype for it, We're gonna
- 21:42Speaker 1: I was because it's All Star super the James dunn
- 21:45Speaker 1: and the All Star Superman have Me influence had me hype.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But then rereading All Stars Superman and how ridiculous, how
- 21:52Speaker 1: like Silver Age I was talking about, like how it's
- 21:55Speaker 1: such a modern take on the Silver Age, and then
- 21:58Speaker 1: knowing James Done and how he loves that weird shit,
- 22:01Speaker 1: Like there's this one shot in the second trailer I
- 22:03Speaker 1: think it is when it's Lois Lane and she's in
- 22:05Speaker 1: some weird spaceship and she's like, let's go, and they're
- 22:08Speaker 1: flying off and I'm like, okay, this is on that
- 22:11Speaker 1: you know where Lois is going to figure out that
- 22:12Speaker 1: he's Superman early, because that's it. Yeah, that's an All
- 22:16Speaker 1: Star Superman. It's like the first issue it ends with
- 22:19Speaker 1: Superman revealing to Lois. Like you were saying, that was
- 22:23Speaker 1: That's something that Grant Morrison talked about. He's like, it's
- 22:25Speaker 1: not that people don't see that Clark should put it
- 22:29Speaker 1: on the lasses. It's a Superman's actor. So when he's Clark,
- 22:33Speaker 1: he's slumps, you know, he's bumbling, he's an oath so
- 22:40Speaker 1: it's like you would never believe that this guy could
- 22:42Speaker 1: be super And that's like you said, Reid does it.
- 22:45Speaker 1: It is fucking when when Reid's reveals to Lois said
- 22:50Speaker 1: he's su that he you know that he's Clark, I
- 22:52Speaker 1: mean that he's Superman and he takes off the glasses
- 22:54Speaker 1: in the front of her and shuts her up. It's
- 22:57Speaker 1: that same moment in All Stars Superman, and it's like
- 22:59Speaker 1: that I think if you know of Crown, crown, set,
- 23:03Speaker 1: con set, if he can pull that off.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he does say he does just off imagery.
- 23:10Speaker 2: He does look vastly different when he's Superman.
- 23:14Speaker 3: When he's just sitting during.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he has the he has the the He's
- 23:20Speaker 2: emoting very well.
- 23:21Speaker 3: So we'll see how this goes.
- 23:22Speaker 2: But yes, y'all, we are we will be seeing sw
- 23:24Speaker 2: Man soon, so stay tuned for that review. Just on
- 23:28Speaker 2: the TV front, I'm excited the Bear is back. I
- 23:30Speaker 2: actually watched one episode before. According tonight, it's back.
- 23:35Speaker 1: It's back.
- 23:36Speaker 2: I think we're off the art the art project that
- 23:38Speaker 2: was last season. I think we're back into ship that
- 23:41Speaker 2: that we fuck with.
- 23:42Speaker 3: So first episode is real good.
- 23:45Speaker 1: So I heard like the fourth is praisey, and I
- 23:48Speaker 1: heard the finale is really good.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Great, because right right now, I'm happy it's back to form.
- 23:53Speaker 3: So if y'all felt the ways about.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Last season as did I, I think you're gonna feel
- 23:57Speaker 2: better coming into this. Uh, Squid Games in three is out.
- 24:01Speaker 2: This is a final season. I don't know if you've
- 24:03Speaker 2: been following.
- 24:03Speaker 1: It at all, be I'm never never in my life.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Never like okay, and I understand why, but I've been following.
- 24:08Speaker 2: This has been a big thing to me. I'm still
- 24:10Speaker 2: mad because I think the nigga should have just went
- 24:12Speaker 2: and got his daughter at the end of the season
- 24:13Speaker 2: one and stopped fucking playing around.
- 24:15Speaker 3: But here we are so on the.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Spirit Dame Vibe. Though the Running Man trailer dropped, did
- 24:21Speaker 1: you beat that?
- 24:22Speaker 3: I heard about it, I didn't see it.
- 24:24Speaker 1: It's okay. A couple of things. First, The Running Man
- 24:28Speaker 1: is based on the Stephen King novella It's not even
- 24:31Speaker 1: that No, it's it's a novella, It's not even that long,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and which was made into an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie in
- 24:37Speaker 1: the eighties. The Arnold Schwarzenegger movie is very campy, over
- 24:42Speaker 1: the top. Arnold, the old host of the Prices right
- 24:46Speaker 1: plays the villain. It's it's crazy, it's really it's hilarious.
- 24:50Speaker 1: It's one of Arnold's better movies. So I saw the
- 24:53Speaker 1: movie as a kid, like, Okay, let me go read
- 24:55Speaker 1: the book Mistake, because it is a Stephen King book
- 24:58Speaker 1: through and through, and it is it's one of the darkest,
- 25:03Speaker 1: most horrific. It's why I don't watch the Sport Game
- 25:06Speaker 1: and all that, because it's the originator. It's one of
- 25:09Speaker 1: the originator of all those. Like the main character has
- 25:13Speaker 1: to get into this contest because his wife and daughter
- 25:17Speaker 1: need medicine that he can't afford anymore, so he has
- 25:21Speaker 1: to get into the running Man game, which in the
- 25:23Speaker 1: book is what they're doing. It seems to be the
- 25:26Speaker 1: trailer for the book because it's done by Edgar Wright,
- 25:29Speaker 1: who did Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim versus The World Right right,
- 25:36Speaker 1: So it seems to be a combination of both because
- 25:39Speaker 1: in the book, it's you get into this game and
- 25:41Speaker 1: then you're released into America and anyone who's watching the show,
- 25:46Speaker 1: which is millions of viewers, is looking for you for
- 25:51Speaker 1: and it's like thirty days you have to survive, you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: while you're just running around, everyone is looking for you
- 25:58Speaker 1: and there's like specialty hunters trying to kill you. Which
- 26:01Speaker 1: so that's what it seems like the trailer is because
- 26:03Speaker 1: in the Arnot Schwarzenegger one, it was just Arnold fighting
- 26:06Speaker 1: all these like weird hunters, and it was more comedy
- 26:08Speaker 1: and hilarious. The book is none of that. It is
- 26:11Speaker 1: the dark. I don't want to spoil the ending because
- 26:13Speaker 1: the trailer seemed to hint that they might do the ending.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I honestly cannot believe this ain't even Infinity Warship. I
- 26:20Speaker 1: just can never see Hollywood ever do in the ending
- 26:22Speaker 1: of the book, it is no, they're doing a running Man.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I mean, you're not a running Man. The Long Mile
- 26:30Speaker 1: adaptation as well, that's another movie coming out to stink
- 26:33Speaker 1: Stevi King that has another horrifically dark ending, and I
- 26:38Speaker 1: think they're gonna do that with the with the the
- 26:41Speaker 1: Long Walk, not the Long Mile, the Long Walk that
- 26:44Speaker 1: ding of that book is. And I think they're actually
- 26:46Speaker 1: gonna do that because the trailer looked like they're leaning
- 26:48Speaker 1: towards that, while this leans towards more a big campy
- 26:52Speaker 1: but a bit serious. So we'll see. Who knows. But
- 26:55Speaker 1: I really like the trailer. It looks really good. I
- 26:57Speaker 1: love Edgar Wright. Stratpogrim Versus the World on my favorite
- 27:00Speaker 1: films ever, and you know, one of the few films
- 27:03Speaker 1: to me that's almost as good as the book. So
- 27:05Speaker 1: you might pull it off here. I'm might for it,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and that that's my type spread games. That's probably the
- 27:10Speaker 1: only type of that I can ever watch.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's fair all right, y'all.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Make sure y'all stay tuned because we have an amazing
- 27:17Speaker 2: couple of special guests. We are talking with Greg Day
- 27:21Speaker 2: and David Brain creators of.

- 28:47Speaker 1: like no other because we welcome two living legends to
- 28:51Speaker 1: the spaceship tonight. Bred Day and David Brain are here today.
- 28:57Speaker 1: You know, creators extrayed in there. We're gonna let y'all tell,
- 29:02Speaker 1: you know, the audience all about them. But you know,
- 29:04Speaker 1: award winning, ward nominated all on shelves things of that nature.
- 29:09Speaker 1: You might have seen, you know, Greg flexing, you know
- 29:13Speaker 1: on Instagram and all that. You know, but they got
- 29:15Speaker 1: a few things going on that we need to talk
- 29:17Speaker 1: to them about tonight. So Greg, please let the audience
- 29:20Speaker 1: know who you are all that good stuff.
- 29:22Speaker 6: My name is Greg Anderson Lese, resident flexer and your
- 29:29Speaker 6: color book writer. I am most known for writing is
- 29:33Speaker 6: None of the Worst Spider, which is the son of
- 29:37Speaker 6: a Nons to the Spider, where I incorporated a lot
- 29:40Speaker 6: of black spirituality, mythology, folklore just to showcase that we can.
- 29:44Speaker 7: Do a lot of dope stuff.
- 29:46Speaker 6: It's not just about European gods and fairy tales, so
- 29:49Speaker 6: on and so forth, and a lot of works tend to,
- 29:53Speaker 6: you know, focus a lot on Black culture.
- 29:55Speaker 7: For the most part, and.
- 29:57Speaker 6: I am currently writing Hammer with David Brain, and I
- 30:02Speaker 6: guess that segues into you, Yeah what.
- 30:06Speaker 4: A men's and women's. Yeah, I'm the amazing David Brain.
- 30:14Speaker 4: That's how you can find me pretty much anywhere, like
- 30:17Speaker 4: if you just google that, I'm the I'm artist and
- 30:23Speaker 4: illustrator of Safe Passage after the Ring most recently like
- 30:31Speaker 4: parable of the talents and of course Hammer. So yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 4: that's me very good.
- 30:37Speaker 3: Also an Eisner Award nominated artist, right.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I've gotten a lot of awards. I
- 30:43Speaker 4: just forget which ones.
- 30:45Speaker 1: A lot of awards. I mean GLAD awards, you know,
- 30:52Speaker 1: American Library Association Awards, Greg getting.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Glyph Awards, Like it's just so many.
- 31:00Speaker 4: It's just like you know, telling them out there.
- 31:03Speaker 7: But I love it. I love it.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Must be nice, you know.
- 31:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Yeah, well, welcome to the fall Nerd. Sure, welcome to
- 31:12Speaker 1: the spaceship tonight.
- 31:13Speaker 4: We're here.
- 31:14Speaker 1: You know, like you said, you know, both of you
- 31:16Speaker 1: have done a lot of things, but you have an
- 31:18Speaker 1: upcoming book coming out together Hammer, m m hm. The
- 31:24Speaker 1: Hammer is being dropped. You got to kick started going
- 31:26Speaker 1: on right now, so uh, we got both had the
- 31:30Speaker 1: chance to read the first issue of Hammer and what like,
- 31:35Speaker 1: First off, it seems to be I mean that seems
- 31:37Speaker 1: to be. It is a retelling, a re imagining of
- 31:41Speaker 1: the John Henry classic story, which for those who know,
- 31:45Speaker 1: which is pretty much everybody in the world. You know,
- 31:46Speaker 1: John Henry had to fight against the train, and I
- 31:50Speaker 1: think in the original version he don't make it right.
- 31:53Speaker 3: He sacrificed himself for some shit, right.
- 31:55Speaker 7: He wins, but he does he does?
- 31:58Speaker 1: Yeah right, Yeah, that's got h Yeah, even in the folk,
- 32:04Speaker 1: you know, like even in our fold tales, we got.
- 32:06Speaker 2: To Yeah, so whe's my job to do this retailing
- 32:10Speaker 2: to bring back the black folk.
- 32:13Speaker 3: He role of John Henry.
- 32:15Speaker 7: Funny enough, I've this is probably like nine eight nine
- 32:19Speaker 7: years in the making. Yeah.
- 32:22Speaker 6: So I initially wrote Hammer not too long after volume
- 32:27Speaker 6: one of is Nana, so that that's about to be
- 32:29Speaker 6: ten years since yea. And originally I had Tim Fielder
- 32:35Speaker 6: as the artist, but he ended up, you know, getting
- 32:38Speaker 6: caught up in all these other yeah boats and I
- 32:41Speaker 6: was crazy, crazy, happy fan. But since then I just
- 32:44Speaker 6: got very busy with is Nana in other books, and
- 32:47Speaker 6: every now and then I would just remember Hammer, and
- 32:51Speaker 6: I ended up sort of we working it in order
- 32:56Speaker 6: to fit as Nana. So if you read Ballots of
- 32:58Speaker 6: Three and raw Head, you see that that same concept
- 33:02Speaker 6: of John Henry being transported into a post apocalyptic world
- 33:06Speaker 6: and facing you know, machines and so on and so forth.
- 33:10Speaker 6: And I think I was going to keep it at that,
- 33:13Speaker 6: but then it was just like yo, I wrote like
- 33:16Speaker 6: hundreds of pages of.
- 33:17Speaker 7: Hammer and I'm not doing anything with it.
- 33:19Speaker 6: So when I was launching my Patreon, I was like,
- 33:22Speaker 6: what would be a cool sort of tier? And I
- 33:25Speaker 6: was like, why not turn this into a webcomic? And
- 33:27Speaker 6: David I've worked with David at this point for like
- 33:31Speaker 6: bro Man long we worked with was it like seven
- 33:37Speaker 6: maybe seven eight years?
- 33:38Speaker 4: Now? Eight years? I like, uh, you know, I was.
- 33:44Speaker 4: I saw him on the internet and then I tried
- 33:46Speaker 4: to like boo him as much as I could. I
- 33:49Speaker 4: was placing him as much as I could, just like, oh, yeah,
- 33:52Speaker 4: you got the best writing you got, Like I love
- 33:55Speaker 4: this stuff. It's so dope, and uh yeah, and it worked, Yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 4: it wor I got that risk, you know what I'm saying.
- 34:04Speaker 5: Of course, of.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Course, and you know it's very interesting you said that
- 34:08Speaker 2: it's like seven eight maybe going on nine years and
- 34:10Speaker 2: then making I think that's that that tends to be
- 34:13Speaker 2: the case with a lot of projects in general, Like
- 34:15Speaker 2: a lot of people don't realize, like by the time
- 34:17Speaker 2: you see a film or TV show, it's been two
- 34:20Speaker 2: three years past the fact, right, and then the people
- 34:22Speaker 2: come back there they're talking about it and doing interviews
- 34:25Speaker 2: about it.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Sometimes they could get jaded.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Do you still do you feel like the same level
- 34:29Speaker 2: of passion and excitement for Hammer as you did all
- 34:31Speaker 2: them years ago or is it just a different feeling now.
- 34:34Speaker 6: I definitely like it's it's uh, I get more excited.
- 34:39Speaker 6: I think the reason a lot of that excitement comes
- 34:42Speaker 6: from David's drawings.
- 34:44Speaker 7: Honestly, it's one thing to be excited as I'm writing it.
- 34:49Speaker 6: And I'll be honest, I'm not one of those people
- 34:51Speaker 6: who beat themselves up about their writing and are like.
- 34:54Speaker 7: Oh my god, my work solah blah blah blah.
- 34:56Speaker 6: Like I actually have fun reading my own work, and
- 35:00Speaker 6: I use that to gauge if I feel like my
- 35:03Speaker 6: book is good or not. And usually the stuff that
- 35:06Speaker 6: makes me laugh as I'm writing it at things that
- 35:08Speaker 6: makes me emotional, I end up realizing for my readers,
- 35:11Speaker 6: it's the same scenes, you know, So if it could
- 35:14Speaker 6: impact me that particular way, then I usually feel like
- 35:17Speaker 6: I'm on the white path with this story. It's one
- 35:19Speaker 6: thing writing it and then seeing the way David interprets
- 35:23Speaker 6: those writings and it's just like, wow, what the fuck
- 35:26Speaker 6: are you doing? This should just it gets me very excited,
- 35:30Speaker 6: And some scenes I imagine, like the way he would
- 35:33Speaker 6: illustrate it will be almost exact, or sometimes it's even
- 35:36Speaker 6: better than I imagine, or where I totally forgot what
- 35:39Speaker 6: the hell I was imagining, you know, so it's like
- 35:41Speaker 6: that ends up wiping clean what I had in mind.
- 35:44Speaker 6: So each time that he was giving me a new
- 35:47Speaker 6: page every week, it was just like braw, this is like,
- 35:51Speaker 6: you know, I'm rejuvenated with this story. So we already
- 35:55Speaker 6: finished the Act one. I'm excited to do act too.
- 35:59Speaker 6: But how David is always working on something, I'm like, nigga,
- 36:03Speaker 6: I'm gonna give you a fucking break, bro.
- 36:07Speaker 2: And Dave, I got to ask you the same, like
- 36:08Speaker 2: when you see your art after the fact, right, like
- 36:12Speaker 2: like you you interpreted Greg's words and you created this
- 36:17Speaker 2: approach to it, Like do you think do you ever
- 36:19Speaker 2: have that feeling like oh, why did I do it
- 36:21Speaker 2: that way or do you go, Nah, that was brilliant
- 36:23Speaker 2: when I did it.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I'm assuming it's gonna be the latter, since.
- 36:25Speaker 4: You know, it's like a little bit of both. I mean,
- 36:32Speaker 4: like I said, like, I'm my artist for I'm trying
- 36:36Speaker 4: to like impress Greg, Like that's the that's the goal.
- 36:39Speaker 4: I impressed myself at the same time, you know, So
- 36:42Speaker 4: it's very much the same as Greg. Like if I
- 36:46Speaker 4: draw something and I laugh after I draw it, If
- 36:48Speaker 4: I like do something and I'm like, oh, that shit's brutal,
- 36:52Speaker 4: you know, like that's like that's crazy, then I you know,
- 36:57Speaker 4: I have that same feeling of like, I know the
- 37:00Speaker 4: audience is really gonna enjoy like what we're doing, and
- 37:05Speaker 4: you know, it gets me hype every time I get
- 37:08Speaker 4: to do another page or I read another page, because
- 37:11Speaker 4: you know, also the way I develop it is I
- 37:14Speaker 4: do a page at a time. I'm not like usually
- 37:17Speaker 4: doing it in big like chunks. So for me, it's
- 37:21Speaker 4: like a weekly comic in the same way that you
- 37:24Speaker 4: know everybody else is in the Patreon. It's like connected.
- 37:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know you mentioned real quick Ben,
- 37:31Speaker 2: you mentioned the audience. David, what who were you thinking
- 37:34Speaker 2: of when you when you wrote this, Greg, when you
- 37:36Speaker 2: were as you were making your art, David, who were
- 37:39Speaker 2: you guys thinking of as the honest who would be
- 37:41Speaker 2: reading this when the story came to fruition and when
- 37:44Speaker 2: the art came truition as well, the niggas.
- 37:52Speaker 3: That's real tell me more.
- 37:55Speaker 6: I honestly, I feel when it comes to my work,
- 37:58Speaker 6: I come from the school of to Morrison. To be
- 38:01Speaker 6: honest with you, she was very much about my writing
- 38:04Speaker 6: is for black folk, and if you end up not
- 38:07Speaker 6: being black folks and you end up checking it out
- 38:09Speaker 6: and enjoying it, cool, and so that's always been my
- 38:13Speaker 6: main priority is black folks when it comes to the audists,
- 38:16Speaker 6: and also stuff that I want to see, you know,
- 38:19Speaker 6: I do wanted to see a lot more black folks
- 38:24Speaker 6: as the main characters inspectative fiction as well as black
- 38:28Speaker 6: we're folk and all types of just black folk in
- 38:30Speaker 6: general and anything. And so I was like, yo, I'll
- 38:34Speaker 6: be the one to produce it if I have to.
- 38:37Speaker 6: And so getting more into this business and finding more
- 38:42Speaker 6: like minded individuals, you know, people like it and stuff,
- 38:45Speaker 6: It's like, Okay, there's there's a pal of us out
- 38:49Speaker 6: there that we can do this thing, so first and foremost,
- 38:52Speaker 6: everything I write will always be for my black audience.
- 38:57Speaker 7: That's what's that.
- 38:58Speaker 1: That's all right, Greg. I was seeing that when we
- 39:01Speaker 1: were looking into your history and stuff, that you've done
- 39:04Speaker 1: some film. I'm not done some, but you've done a
- 39:07Speaker 1: lot of filmmaking teaching, and you talk filmmaking and documentary
- 39:11Speaker 1: style filmmaking and a lot of other things.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Yeah, I went to I went to school for film.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I went to school.
- 39:21Speaker 6: I went to book the College, Okay, and they have
- 39:24Speaker 6: a dope, really really great film program. I think they're
- 39:28Speaker 6: very underrated in terms of how do I say a
- 39:32Speaker 6: reputation because I feel like people think about like tis
- 39:35Speaker 6: to think about SVA, but now Brooklyn College, like they
- 39:40Speaker 6: are hardcore when it comes to the film department, you know.
- 39:43Speaker 6: And I got into film, I'd say about like middle school,
- 39:48Speaker 6: high school, and I knew like I wanted to be
- 39:51Speaker 6: a director.
- 39:52Speaker 7: That's that's the thing I wanted to do.
- 39:53Speaker 6: I wanted to write stories, plays, scripts, and I was
- 39:58Speaker 6: into theater as well. But I think over time, as
- 40:02Speaker 6: I got older, I think my comic writing just started
- 40:06Speaker 6: taking over in terms of precedents of what I was
- 40:08Speaker 6: focusing on I still definitely want to get back into
- 40:12Speaker 6: the film world if possible. But in the meantime, I've
- 40:16Speaker 6: been teaching it for the past or twelve years nice,
- 40:19Speaker 6: and so that's been that's been pretty cool. And sometimes
- 40:22Speaker 6: seeing former students of mine, you know, still doing something
- 40:26Speaker 6: film related, I'm just.
- 40:27Speaker 7: Like, oh, dope, you know, you know.
- 40:31Speaker 4: Well, No.
- 40:31Speaker 1: My question was in relation to that, is that when
- 40:34Speaker 1: it comes to writing your scripts, are you more because
- 40:39Speaker 1: like when I started writing Hindricks, that was one of
- 40:41Speaker 1: my first time actually writing comic scripts, and so my
- 40:45Speaker 1: writing partner, Mellow, had a whole different He's also, you know,
- 40:49Speaker 1: a film writer and everything before comics. We wrote it
- 40:52Speaker 1: in a different format than we would a film script.
- 40:57Speaker 1: So when you're writing comic scripts, are you writing in
- 41:00Speaker 1: own script format? Are you writing and we wrote more
- 41:03Speaker 1: like a panel description, you know, and then characters, Yeah, dialogue.
- 41:10Speaker 7: I definitely write it in all comic format.
- 41:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:13Speaker 7: My mind is when it comes to comics, My mind
- 41:16Speaker 7: is on comics. Yeah.
- 41:17Speaker 1: And it's interesting though, because like this is my first
- 41:21Speaker 1: exposure to comic scripts, and I'm learning that people don't
- 41:24Speaker 1: have a standard. Like I tell people, if you read
- 41:26Speaker 1: a film script, it's the same anything, same everything technique. Yeah,
- 41:31Speaker 1: I mean, same, same spacing every time. It's a standard.
- 41:34Speaker 1: It has to be or people don't even read it.
- 41:36Speaker 1: But with comic scripts, I've read you know, people with scripts,
- 41:39Speaker 1: and everybody's looks completely different. So is that where where
- 41:43Speaker 1: you're at with yours? Are you and working with David?
- 41:46Speaker 1: Are you more of a like the Marvel method where
- 41:48Speaker 1: you just say this is what happens in the scene
- 41:52Speaker 1: and then filling the words later.
- 41:55Speaker 6: So I it really depends on the project when it
- 41:58Speaker 6: comes to David. Honestly, with one that I work with,
- 42:01Speaker 6: I have a very standard comic script. I will open
- 42:05Speaker 6: up the page what's going on in the scene, with
- 42:08Speaker 6: the panels, all the descriptions and so on and so forth.
- 42:12Speaker 6: And I still do that with David as well. But
- 42:14Speaker 6: there will be moments where I literally would just message
- 42:18Speaker 6: David on Facebook and be like, bro, I want to
- 42:21Speaker 6: do this, this, this, this, this. They'll be like no,
- 42:24Speaker 6: no panel descriptions, nothing, They'll be on lines and this
- 42:28Speaker 6: mother fold will literally draw exactly what I had in mind.
- 42:32Speaker 7: I'm like, bh, yes, wow, exactly it, you know.
- 42:36Speaker 6: And He's he's the type of artist where I almost
- 42:40Speaker 6: don't really need to go too much into like pacings
- 42:42Speaker 6: and stuff like that. I can just say this is
- 42:44Speaker 6: what I want to do. This is the general concept
- 42:45Speaker 6: the story. This is the joke that I want to hit,
- 42:48Speaker 6: and this motherfucker will do it. And I feel like
- 42:53Speaker 6: we there's like the synergy between us when it comes
- 42:55Speaker 6: out that I know not to be really worried. I
- 42:58Speaker 6: don't need to like sort of his hand and spool
- 43:01Speaker 6: feeling when it comes to am I ready.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Like we connect like amazingly. I think it just
- 43:10Speaker 4: happens that, you know, we like a lot of the
- 43:12Speaker 4: same stuff. We come from side kind of like the
- 43:15Speaker 4: uh you know, similar level, similar level of like education
- 43:20Speaker 4: and like just like dope shit we're into. So it
- 43:25Speaker 4: makes it much easier, you know, to just like kind
- 43:29Speaker 4: of riff on everything. You know. It's like it's it's
- 43:32Speaker 4: all jazz to us, you.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Know, mhm, all right. And David, this was like, as
- 43:38Speaker 1: far as I know, this was some of our first
- 43:40Speaker 1: time seeing you know, your work and comic books. So
- 43:43Speaker 1: who were some of your inspirations growing up and even now?
- 43:48Speaker 4: I mean honestly, like I got into comics because of
- 43:52Speaker 4: playing with toys Like that was like where it started
- 43:54Speaker 4: like I just wanted to tell those stories over and over.
- 43:56Speaker 4: But then you know, it happens like somebody, somebody gets
- 44:00Speaker 4: mad at you or like you know, bullies you. So
- 44:01Speaker 4: you're just like, oh, I got the toys awake, but
- 44:03Speaker 4: I gotta make this like look cool. But I mean
- 44:06Speaker 4: from there, it's like, you know, it's been like Sunday
- 44:09Speaker 4: funnies like Bill Watterson, and then.
- 44:14Speaker 1: That's crazy that I can definitely see. Yeah, I mean,
- 44:17Speaker 1: you know Waterson is just yeah, God.
- 44:21Speaker 4: He's he's incredible, like his his his use of ink
- 44:24Speaker 4: in his backgrounds and like there's little touches of detail,
- 44:28Speaker 4: but also there's just like sort of like life and
- 44:33Speaker 4: energy to the to the way that he makes his work.
- 44:37Speaker 4: And but yeah, from there, you know, I just got
- 44:39Speaker 4: into like a lot of manga, and I got an
- 44:41Speaker 4: to a lot of like, uh you know, I think
- 44:44Speaker 4: every like nineties kid like you know, love that image stuff.
- 44:49Speaker 4: So like I was like into like young Blood and
- 44:52Speaker 4: uh you know, Grindle and things like that.
- 44:56Speaker 1: That's those are That's that's two different in streams there.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Like you say image and I'm like, you know Robin Field, Okay,
- 45:04Speaker 1: I mean I wasn't at Farland like fanatic you know
- 45:06Speaker 1: from and yeah, ron Lim and we'll see and all
- 45:10Speaker 1: of them. But Brendle is like, that's that whole other
- 45:13Speaker 1: dark ship right there. That was that Like, Yo, that's that.
- 45:17Speaker 1: That's that nerd nerd comic ship right there. Like, I mean,
- 45:21Speaker 1: I liked I only read a couple of Grendel, but
- 45:24Speaker 1: it's funny. One of the characters and Hindrix, their look
- 45:28Speaker 1: is is like a black version of I think her
- 45:32Speaker 1: name is Hunter Rose. I didn't I didn't know her name.
- 45:35Speaker 1: I had to google her for the art description, but yeah,
- 45:38Speaker 1: she runned a character from Grendel, so definitely that inspiration there.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so just getting into Hammer a bit. I know, Ben,
- 45:47Speaker 2: I mean and I both really love the art.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Like it's very like I don't know how art is
- 45:55Speaker 3: descriptive as well.
- 45:56Speaker 2: It's very descriptive, but then also horrific at times because
- 45:59Speaker 2: it's things happening, right, It's a horrific setting.
- 46:03Speaker 3: There are just the wild stuf happen.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I don't want to give it away for people who
- 46:08Speaker 2: want to read it, but you know, in the moments
- 46:12Speaker 2: that it got horrific, it was also just like you
- 46:15Speaker 2: can't stop, you can't look away from it and it's
- 46:17Speaker 2: still compelling. And then like that introduction of the adversary
- 46:21Speaker 2: for example, that that was absolutely a moment where it
- 46:25Speaker 2: was just like wow, you know who came up with that?
- 46:28Speaker 7: Right, Like.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I can't lie. I was like, yeah, that was some
- 46:35Speaker 1: horrific Yeah, like this is yeah, he came in with that,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you know, some energy.
- 46:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:42Speaker 2: I have to ask just like do you ever was
- 46:44Speaker 2: there a point where as you were drawing out these
- 46:47Speaker 2: these panels and you're looking at this like this is
- 46:50Speaker 2: too much? Or did you just kept saying push, we
- 46:54Speaker 2: need to do more, Like how did you how did you?
- 46:56Speaker 2: Did you even curb yourself or it was just like nah,
- 46:59Speaker 2: just go no, there's.
- 47:00Speaker 4: No there's no curving at all. You know, it's a
- 47:03Speaker 4: It's always like the I always want to scare myself,
- 47:07Speaker 4: Like I mean, I'm a lover of woor and so
- 47:09Speaker 4: like if I can scare myself or make something that
- 47:13Speaker 4: makes me, I guess, feel something, then I know the
- 47:15Speaker 4: audience is going to feel it ten times more so.
- 47:19Speaker 4: I Mean we even had a lot with me and
- 47:21Speaker 4: Greg have had a lot of conversations where he's just like, uh,
- 47:26Speaker 4: you know, He's like I show him something, and then
- 47:29Speaker 4: I think, maybe I can make it creepier, maybe I
- 47:31Speaker 4: can make it more brutal. Maybe I can you know,
- 47:34Speaker 4: just add something a little more to you know. So
- 47:37Speaker 4: he's already sort of super level of brilliance, you know,
- 47:40Speaker 4: I just want to you know, add a little bit
- 47:42Speaker 4: more spice to to whatever he's already there. So I'm
- 47:45Speaker 4: always like telling myself to to push it, you know,
- 47:50Speaker 4: And like I had just finished doing parable of the talents,
- 47:54Speaker 4: and that's just like like I mean, if you read
- 47:57Speaker 4: any Octavia, like yeah, like once you can get through
- 48:01Speaker 4: that level of brutality and realism, and you know, like
- 48:08Speaker 4: this fantasy world kind of is like a is a relief,
- 48:12Speaker 4: you know, it's it becomes in a way more cartoonish
- 48:16Speaker 4: than like sort of the reality that the Octavia like
- 48:21Speaker 4: uh creates. So I'm you know, I'm always like looking
- 48:24Speaker 4: for that next level of you know, craziness.
- 48:30Speaker 2: And as you're looking for your levels of crazy, how
- 48:33Speaker 2: how fast are you pushing out these panels? Like are
- 48:35Speaker 2: you the type that you you need like a week
- 48:38Speaker 2: on something or just like this stuff is coming out
- 48:40Speaker 2: twenty minutes, Like what are we talking about here?
- 48:42Speaker 4: Twenty minutes?
- 48:43Speaker 7: Yeah, Wow.
- 48:44Speaker 4: I'm like, I mean there's a there's a lot of like,
- 48:48Speaker 4: you know, I've been I mean, I guess I could
- 48:50Speaker 4: say I've been doing it for forty three years, right, Like,
- 48:53Speaker 4: I mean it took me forty three years to get
- 48:55Speaker 4: to this point where I can like push out a
- 48:57Speaker 4: page in a few hours. I have to not a
- 49:01Speaker 4: couple of minutes.
- 49:02Speaker 8: But you.
- 49:03Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's uh, you know, like you develop a
- 49:09Speaker 4: workflow and you know, develop a you know, like sort
- 49:14Speaker 4: of a system of kW to like you know, just
- 49:18Speaker 4: create and be artistic and uh so it's not like
- 49:24Speaker 4: it's not a painstaking like process for me. It's a
- 49:27Speaker 4: it's actually yeah, it's like it's like a relief. It's
- 49:31Speaker 4: like a relaxing moment to be able to to just
- 49:34Speaker 4: like push out these lines and create with like no boundaries.
- 49:38Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Question what was the language that's used on the first
- 49:43Speaker 1: page and then sprinkled throughout the book? It's multiple languages, Okay.
- 49:48Speaker 2: I figured like because some amalgamation and things. I was like,
- 49:51Speaker 2: is that you're but then looks like it could be
- 49:54Speaker 2: some creole in there, and I'm like, well, what's going on?
- 49:56Speaker 3: There was a lot going on.
- 49:59Speaker 7: Each one of them.
- 50:00Speaker 6: Each verse that you see on the first page is
- 50:02Speaker 6: a different lullaby from Black culture, okay. And so for
- 50:09Speaker 6: that for the people, even if they were to try
- 50:12Speaker 6: to translate it, I like, I like to do a
- 50:15Speaker 6: little bit give people a little bit of work when
- 50:18Speaker 6: it comes to my stories, because even when I introduce
- 50:21Speaker 6: a lot of spiritual characters from different Black cultures, I'm
- 50:25Speaker 6: not going to spell out where they're from or who
- 50:27Speaker 6: they are exactly Like. You'll get the names, and you'll
- 50:30Speaker 6: get their personalities and a little bit of their backgrounds
- 50:33Speaker 6: just based off of their visuals. But I usually want
- 50:37Speaker 6: people to do a bit of research and be like, where,
- 50:40Speaker 6: where exactly is this fun? And so I was doing
- 50:44Speaker 6: some research on different types of lallabas of different African cultures,
- 50:49Speaker 6: and I was just like, yo, this because it's supposed
- 50:53Speaker 6: to be a very black, effrocentric story, I thought.
- 50:57Speaker 7: You know, it won't be. It's going to represent many
- 51:00Speaker 7: different cultures and not just one.
- 51:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 51:03Speaker 1: Another thing I really enjoyed in the book is just
- 51:05Speaker 1: the general themes of revolution, because that's something i'm, you know,
- 51:09Speaker 1: pretty much put in anything I write. And I know, Greg,
- 51:11Speaker 1: a lot of your stuff has that same feeling in
- 51:14Speaker 1: different ways, and this is more of a like up front,
- 51:17Speaker 1: you know, straight up. You know, people are fighting a
- 51:19Speaker 1: revolutionary war against evil AI robots and cyborgs. So what
- 51:25Speaker 1: made you want to go this route, especially with the
- 51:27Speaker 1: AI and like the ideas that we're going around with
- 51:30Speaker 1: AI right now in our own culture and society.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Yeah, the AIS are the oppressors here, so in more
- 51:36Speaker 3: ways than one.
- 51:39Speaker 6: Well, I mean I think I got I guess I
- 51:42Speaker 6: got lucky with the AI sort of becoming one of
- 51:45Speaker 6: because of the said I wrote this almost ten years ago,
- 51:49Speaker 6: years ago, so I was like, b like, this shit
- 51:51Speaker 6: is actually happening now for real, you know. But like
- 51:55Speaker 6: when I was coming up with the general story, I
- 51:57Speaker 6: think it was just a way of trying to modelize,
- 52:00Speaker 6: modernized just the original theme of John Henry versus the machine.
- 52:05Speaker 6: And so it's just so happens that now the machine
- 52:10Speaker 6: is artificial intelligence, right, And so I think it only
- 52:14Speaker 6: made sense for it to be what it is as
- 52:18Speaker 6: I'm you know, creating this new version of John Henry.
- 52:21Speaker 6: So it's like, if it's not it's no longer the
- 52:23Speaker 6: steam drill, what is the next step that it's trying
- 52:26Speaker 6: to remove human beings from their labor, and that is
- 52:31Speaker 6: all the AI that we're seeing that we're fighting against.
- 52:33Speaker 7: A lot of his artists are fighting against and unfortunately
- 52:36Speaker 7: a lot of people.
- 52:36Speaker 6: Are like, oh, you know, but this is the way
- 52:38Speaker 6: to go, and the way to go is what will
- 52:42Speaker 6: eventually end up being what kills us, just like how
- 52:45Speaker 6: John Henry died trying to fight against it.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Why is it always babies with black people, like baby AI,
- 52:53Speaker 1: you know, like whenever it's like, you know, it's always
- 52:56Speaker 1: babies with us. It's always like little kids and babies.
- 52:59Speaker 6: You know in them.
- 53:02Speaker 1: No, like it's like, you know, like they have the
- 53:04Speaker 1: little girls now eating stuff and smacking and making little
- 53:07Speaker 1: fun or then like they baby fire old shows. It
- 53:12Speaker 1: feels very intentional, man, feels very like, let's make y'all black,
- 53:16Speaker 1: you know, y'all y'all.
- 53:20Speaker 6: Well, I mean they say, what like, black folks are
- 53:23Speaker 6: some of the biggest consumers when it comes to you know,
- 53:28Speaker 6: media for the most part, and I feel painting a
- 53:33Speaker 6: lot of that whole. The babies and black babies. You know,
- 53:35Speaker 6: that's a way to try to appeal to our sensibilities,
- 53:38Speaker 6: you know, to cute kids, love your kids. We love babies,
- 53:43Speaker 6: we want to pinch. And now we're like, oh a
- 53:48Speaker 6: I is doing this, maybe I can do my own
- 53:50Speaker 6: thing with.
- 53:50Speaker 1: Yeah, damn it, you're right. But I was like, why
- 53:56Speaker 1: why is it always? You know, because I saw like
- 53:58Speaker 1: a bunch of shows like they had like the wire,
- 54:00Speaker 1: you know, and it's like baby's doing the wire, you know,
- 54:03Speaker 1: baby's doing whatever. You can imagine. It's always black shows though,
- 54:07Speaker 1: And I'm like, damn, are you right? What did you say? Like,
- 54:15Speaker 1: damn it?
- 54:15Speaker 7: Black folks.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Now, one thing I did have to say about or
- 54:21Speaker 1: asked about Hammer is yes, there's a lot of hammer
- 54:25Speaker 1: in Hammer. Yeah, you know it's in hammer.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Whose idea was that, Daisy?
- 54:36Speaker 1: I mean, I get it, my man. You know it's dude.
- 54:40Speaker 1: But it didn't have to be the waist down.
- 54:45Speaker 2: No, but and and listen, it's like on a equality scale,
- 54:50Speaker 2: my great, thank you for the full front on the
- 54:51Speaker 2: mail side of things.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Appreciate you. There's a lot. So what's that about?
- 54:57Speaker 1: More is the one?
- 54:59Speaker 4: All? Right? When I was an undergrad, there was this, uh,
- 55:04Speaker 4: this older black dude's name is Joe Brooks. I don't
- 55:07Speaker 4: know who he's at right now, but like he like
- 55:11Speaker 4: gave me his like his rules for for drawing, and
- 55:16Speaker 4: one of them was like he spent thirty minutes just
- 55:18Speaker 4: being like, you got to have a big package. You
- 55:20Speaker 4: always got to throw a big package and everything. And
- 55:23Speaker 4: I've always i mean, I was like, like it's been
- 55:28Speaker 4: I've been like, yeah, just just just throw a big,
- 55:31Speaker 4: big old ham and that hammer all. Yeah.
- 55:35Speaker 3: I mean I was reading. I was just like, oh,
- 55:37Speaker 3: that's an appendage.
- 55:38Speaker 7: It was pretty meaty right in those panels. Wagon you
- 55:44Speaker 7: can see the air just swinging.
- 55:45Speaker 3: That was like, he's close to the earth for sure.
- 55:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm blessed.
- 55:56Speaker 6: I was also I wanted to be also intentional with
- 55:59Speaker 6: the new because I always find it to be very
- 56:02Speaker 6: interesting that we can.
- 56:04Speaker 7: Read and watch so much violence, Like we literally consume
- 56:10Speaker 7: violence that we think is totally cool. We grew up
- 56:12Speaker 7: with it. Yeah, we're watching even Disney movies are very
- 56:15Speaker 7: very violent.
- 56:17Speaker 6: Anything to do with something as natural as nudity or
- 56:20Speaker 6: sex is just like, oh my god, you know, like
- 56:24Speaker 6: we look like tepically.
- 56:26Speaker 3: In Western culture, Western American and Nie culture.
- 56:28Speaker 7: Ye.
- 56:29Speaker 6: So I think a part of that was also me
- 56:31Speaker 6: trying to do a commentary of just like it's just nudity,
- 56:34Speaker 6: it's just a dude, you know, and his his bare
- 56:37Speaker 6: soul everything about him and here he is. And also
- 56:40Speaker 6: I think it also shows the power that he has
- 56:43Speaker 6: because he doesn't need armor, he doesn't need anything like
- 56:46Speaker 6: this motherfucker is literally fighting with his hands completely in
- 56:50Speaker 6: a bear, you know. And this is also him being born,
- 56:54Speaker 6: like we see him being born round, So doesn't make
- 56:58Speaker 6: sense to be completely covered up because it's as he's
- 57:00Speaker 6: born he gets attacked by these machines, right, So I
- 57:04Speaker 6: didn't feel like we needed to hide any of that.
- 57:07Speaker 2: It was just like, man, yeah, the more you talk
- 57:11Speaker 2: about it, and I'm just the panels are flashing him
- 57:15Speaker 2: over my mind.
- 57:16Speaker 3: I'm thinking more. I'm thinking of Wolverine. I'm getting that
- 57:19Speaker 3: hole just very just in your face, just from the earth,
- 57:25Speaker 3: like you said, the bare hands, things like that.
- 57:27Speaker 2: Yes, I understood, Like I see the it's not brutality,
- 57:31Speaker 2: I'm looking for it. It's it's it's a different type
- 57:33Speaker 2: of strength like you said, just just being so natural
- 57:37Speaker 2: and just coursing through him.
- 57:38Speaker 3: Like I understand why you made a decision on that
- 57:41Speaker 3: very are like, yeah, yeah, you should watch that film.
- 57:49Speaker 3: It's a very good film.
- 57:50Speaker 4: Yeah. We were also trying to like de sexualize you know,
- 57:55Speaker 4: John Henry in a way or like nudity in a way.
- 57:58Speaker 4: So like if it's in your face all the time
- 58:02Speaker 4: on almost every panel, like you stop paying attention to
- 58:06Speaker 4: you know what it Dick's at, you know, like you
- 58:09Speaker 4: start playing attention to what's happening with like the storytelling,
- 58:13Speaker 4: and you you stop, I mean, you get involved with it,
- 58:17Speaker 4: you know, you become a part of it. And it's
- 58:19Speaker 4: not like, oh, this is about a sexy muscly man
- 58:24Speaker 4: with a giant giant cop right right, this is just
- 58:28Speaker 4: a man of the earth and he's in this like
- 58:31Speaker 4: this crazy condition you know, and this like in this
- 58:35Speaker 4: world that he doesn't really know what's going on and
- 58:37Speaker 4: he has to like you know, find his way through
- 58:40Speaker 4: this like postopopulyptic landscape. Yeah.
- 58:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and you definitely feel that, you do, you feel.
- 58:46Speaker 2: That moment of just like I'm I'm out here, it's raw,
- 58:50Speaker 2: is real, and I'm trying to just get it together.
- 58:53Speaker 2: Like you definitely get that understanding. And then as you
- 58:57Speaker 2: take the readers through the story, like what do you
- 59:00Speaker 2: want them to come away with at the end of
- 59:02Speaker 2: at least.
- 59:02Speaker 9: Issue one.
- 59:05Speaker 1: Answers, Yeah, do.
- 59:07Speaker 2: You want them to be like damn, I'm scared, or
- 59:09Speaker 2: like you know, or like, oh that was a lot,
- 59:11Speaker 2: Like is there something where you obviously you want them
- 59:14Speaker 2: to be compelled where they want more.
- 59:15Speaker 3: Right, That's that's obvious, right, But like, is there some
- 59:19Speaker 3: other thought you want to take away?
- 59:20Speaker 2: I mean one of them was, like you mentioned, just
- 59:22Speaker 2: desexualizing him, right, like making people understand it's just nudity, right, Like,
- 59:27Speaker 2: I think that's a good first approach.
- 59:29Speaker 3: But what else.
- 59:31Speaker 4: I mean? For me, it's I mean, like the art
- 59:34Speaker 4: is always what I want people to take away, you know.
- 59:38Speaker 4: I I enjoy when people come to me and like
- 59:42Speaker 4: start talking about small details and like little things that
- 59:48Speaker 4: you know that I that I put in there, not
- 59:50Speaker 4: necessarily as Easter eggs, but things that like just I
- 59:53Speaker 4: enjoy and I enjoyed the do And so when I
- 59:56Speaker 4: get like little messages like that or people, yeah, find
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: those minute little details, like that's what I kind of
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: want people to take from it, like I want them
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: to like well, as an artist, like when they tell
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: you in comic school you're you're not supposed to spend
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: too much time while you're looking at a page. You're
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: just supposed to like scan it and read it and
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: then move forward, and I want people to like stare,
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: I want yeah, so what's going on here? And then
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: they start finding things and they find more and more
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: and more, and you know, I just want them to
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: have that like as like a little gift that they
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: take with them, like and then, like like you said,
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: be compelled and want more, Like they want to read
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: it and buy it and support it.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: Well, the images are definitely burned in my brain because
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: I have never seen no shit like that.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: What about you, Greg, Like, just from the storytelling perspective,
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: what do you want people to.
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Come away with?
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: I think, uh me in general is I want people
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: to come away with consciousness. You know, it's a it's
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: a very conscious story. It's very it's very black Black
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: consciousness as well, and so I hopefully would like it
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: to inspire people, you know, find out what else is
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: out there in terms of our cultures and our stories,
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: our legends and the creativity that you can also apply
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: to it. You know, I feel like I feel like
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: there's a lot we have a well of knowledge and
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: a well of stories from various various Black cultures, and
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: even if you're not going to use it for your
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: own stuff just to be inspired by it. And I
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: feel like a lot of us are seeking in some form,
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: some form of validation when it comes to aspective fiction.
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: You know, a lot of people we always want to
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: be represented. You always want to see Marvel in DC
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: make black people and give it. It's just like, unless
- 1:01:57Speaker 6: it's a black folk who knows what they're they're doing,
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: these characters ain't gonna really stand out honestly to.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: Us in particular. And I feel like having books like Hammer.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: Having stories like that, having artists like David, you know,
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: really showcase the talent that's out there, the stuff that
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: we can actually do. We have so much power, so
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: let's actually, you know, use those superpowers that we got.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Absolutely love that really great one last one. What like
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: length are we talking like? And what we read is
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: that at one? So like for those who are you know,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: investing in this kitch start or how long of a
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: series are you thinking?
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: So it will be this story will be three acts.
- 1:02:41Speaker 6: Act two is already completely written out, but I might
- 1:02:46Speaker 6: update some pages, and Act three I have mostly in
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: my head.
- 1:02:52Speaker 7: There's a couple of stuff that.
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: I already started jotting down, but I think I want
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: to see how David does with Act two, and Act
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: two is is crazy, Like you're crazier, way, way, way.
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: Crazier than Act one.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: So's there's gonna be there's gonna be new characters who's
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: gonna get involved as well. You're going to get more
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: development from the Resistant team that we meet very briefly.
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: It's definitely more development with John with Henry, and you know,
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: we're gonna see John and Bolt finally met because as
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: we're introducing the hero and the villain, they actually don't
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: have an interaction at all. In this act Act two,
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: you'll get a little bit of that as well as
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: more of the annoying ass children.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I don't like them and I love kids,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: but not these.
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: Not so much.
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: Yeah, but I think I was speaking with David too
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: after this particular story. Actually, I want to go like
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: the Mad Maxwell, you know, where each story it's him
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: encountering a different set of characters, a different type of situation,
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: And so it will still be in the post apocalyptic
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: world of you know, the machines ruling, but it might
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: be a completely different type of setting and uh, you know,
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: we'll see where it goes. But essentially we have the
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: three acts for this particular story. If it does well,
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: then we'll you know, do some sequels.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Mhm.
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: What about you, David, what do you Where do you
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: want to go with it?
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: I mean I'm truly compelled by a lot of the
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: side characters, you know. I think I think John is
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: like kind of fleshed out if you want to that,
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: and like there's there's all these really interesting like just
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: characters that like, uh like Grant created and developed, and
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: I as a both a reader and a creator, where
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: like I was like, I want to know more about
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: t I want to know about these like Marauder dudes
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: and that that whole group with like Chian, you know,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: I I love those kids, and I want to know
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: like where they come from. I want I want more
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: of their story, you know. And and I've always like
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: kind of felt like it could you know for me
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: it uh like when I read it, it gave me
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: like real deep like Robert E. Howard like Conan obs
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: and sort of this Uh, it could totally work as
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: like a you know, a story of the Week type
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: of deal, you know, like where you just have this like, uh,
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: I don't know if you ever watched like the old
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: Hulk you know, from like the eighties or whatever, but
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: like it was uh, you know, they didn't really have
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: it was episodic, so they were just like the Hulk
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: was just doing this thing and then that he had
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: to wander a little bit more, you know. And so
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: I've always like I loved this idea of like this
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: wandering like character, you know, who's just a sort of
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: a brutal marauder. And like, you know, you get these
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: like these places and all these new areas and settings
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: that you can just like you can throw them in,
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: you know, and you know, it happens, and it's like
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: this one story and then who moves on and you
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: don't really necessarily need to like have this like long,
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: lengthy like Marble or DC continuity. Like yeah, just like
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: good storytelling and really beautiful art and and people will
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: love it though, Like I think people connect to that
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: that idea of just sort of being dropped into a
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: space and a setting and then it's there and then
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: it happens and it's done.
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: And then yeah, the John Henry Rpig, I get it, Yeah,
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: get it exactly.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: All right, Well, you have survived the interview portion of
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: for all nerds. But now it's time for the brat
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: segment or rapid fire questions. Are you ready, David said?
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: David said, she said no.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I said yes, let's do it.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: Let's do it. Let's do it.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Let's see uh man or professor.
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: X you know man?
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: What?
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: That was?
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: Like?
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: How dare you ask me such a ridiculous question type
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: of answer? Why do you feel that way?
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: Geez? You know with the purple suit, come on, get
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: out of here.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: Oh because it drip of the drip only Okay, that's
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: that's me. I ain't gonna hold you.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: That's I mean, first has the cerebral helmet drip that
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: you know, that drip is pretty fires Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: mean that was something crazy with that. That that but
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: that's also like his only drip in like eighty years. Yes, o,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: my god, the yellow chair is pretty dripp you know. Yeah?
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: All right, Wakanda or Zamunda.
- 1:08:06Speaker 7: I'm sorry, that's a tough one, but I'm gonna go.
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: I'm gonna go with Combo. But that's pass.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: You say neither if you're not working with them, or
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: you gotta pick one.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: Zamunda all right?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: Uh storm or misty Night.
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: I love myst Storm.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, yeah, we got that loves Her and okay,
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: I my my love had to connect with that.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: Okay, your favorite anime and if you don't watch anime animation.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Uh yeah, I'm currently rewatching it for like maybe thirte
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: or fourth time. It's called Kingdom. It's like a historical
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: like war epic. M you check it out. It's it's amazing.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: If you like historical, I was sound about it or
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: the movements of the Earth. On the movements of the Earth.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: M that ship is ill the first three episodes.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna try that out.
- 1:09:11Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: What about you, Greg? Favorite anime?
- 1:09:13Speaker 7: I got a way ty? Yes, which is I Have
- 1:09:17Speaker 7: a Big Old.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: Oh that's that's a sleeper classic. A lot of people
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: don't know about Big O.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: The Old School. You know about Big Okay, go ahead, My.
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: Hero Academia and Cowboy.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: Yeah, nice.
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Since we got some hard heads in here, Michael Myers,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Freddy or Jason Freddy.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: Uh, I'm gonna go with Michael Myers.
- 1:09:47Speaker 7: Yeah, that'd be my second pick though, yeah, close second.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: It really is the worst.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: I'm always my answer has always been Freddy because if
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: anybody get you in your fucking Dreams is nightmarish, you know,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: always the one like.
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: Jesus, Yeah, I feel like he's still untapped.
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: Honestly, I feel as if, like the first one, the
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: first one was creepy as hell and the others could
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: have done more in terms of the imagination and creativity
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: that he can because you're in Dreams, so there's so
- 1:10:23Speaker 6: much things that you can do with that, And I
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: feel like they've never quite tapped into like the fantasy
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: and crazy aspects that you can go with Freddie. And
- 1:10:35Speaker 6: I feel like they could have done it with the
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: remake because I'm like, Okay, now we have these crazy
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: special effects we can do right back to just rehashing
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: the first one.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I'm like, Dream Warriors to me is that one. I
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: want to rewatch Dream Warriors, but that was my one
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: as a kid. But I feel like they never went
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: that level again after that.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: If the powers that be were developing a story about
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: your life, would you want to see them turn it
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: into an album, a graphic novel, a game, or a
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: movie the story of your life?
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: And what format?
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: I wanted to be a tabletop RPG. They like D
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: and D, but Dave and D or whatever that's cute,
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: make better choices, maybe you'll get better roles.
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: What about you, Greg, game, movie, graphic novel or album
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: like music album?
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: Shit?
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: Honestly, I think I might either do graphic novel album
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: as I would like to see the different interpretations from
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: the artists who how they would depict me or how
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: they would make music based off of my life.
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: M hm.
- 1:11:56Speaker 7: So that I think will be like a very interesting
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: thing and one of my favorite things because.
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: I've done a lot of life modeling and I've always
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: enjoyed seeing the different.
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: Artist interpretation of me. I see what you're saying, favorite
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: thing to see. So I would I think it would
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: be interested to see what in comic format, like how
- 1:12:17Speaker 7: would that be.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: Excellent?
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: All right? Who is your first geek crush and what
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: character were you geeking out on or loving?
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: Let me Oh, I had a huge crush on Gina
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: Torres as Nebula on Hercules.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: I know Gina toys, but I did not know she
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: played a Nebula on She was on the old the.
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: Ship that used to be on w B Hercules.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, deep, terrible, terrible, terrible.
- 1:12:53Speaker 7: Terrible, but she was. She was on Hercules for a
- 1:12:57Speaker 7: couple of episodes. She was the oldest love interest, and
- 1:13:01Speaker 7: I think she was connected to.
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: Tony Todd was her brother on the show Oh Wow,
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: being possessed by this like evil entity and she was
- 1:13:11Speaker 6: trying to stop him and everything like that.
- 1:13:13Speaker 7: So I think she was one of the very first
- 1:13:15Speaker 7: like questions that I I had, and.
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: I I can't think of many ilse honestly, I mean
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: the typical Halle Berry as a kid, it doesn't.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: Matter what.
- 1:13:35Speaker 9: Her look, cracking Vegas man pretty much, what about.
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: Yeah. I wasn't allowed to like watch a lot of stuff.
- 1:13:54Speaker 4: My parents were very religious, so it could be you
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: know anything like there's like this Latino girl on the
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: show ghost Writer that I.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: Like, ghost Writer or ghost Writer.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Writer, like as in what Greg does.
- 1:14:11Speaker 7: Wow, that was a great show, man, I love that
- 1:14:16Speaker 7: on PBS.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: I'm saying.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: Now, don't yeah, don't defund my my first true love.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: That man had to make it work. It was straighter.
- 1:14:29Speaker 8: It is remember that that that the bubble Gum monster.
- 1:14:38Speaker 8: That bubble Gum Monster used to scared of Livid.
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: Practical effects were always the scariest.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, it's scary because it's so terrible.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Okay, there's two more questions, and any medium could be
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: a book, movie, comics.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: Even what character's death hurt you the most?
- 1:15:02Speaker 7: I have I have three examples. I have three examples.
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: So, and there was a David Hind Daredevil comic called
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: Daredevil Redemption. Okay, in it, uh, this boy, this young
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: man was framed. I can't remember exactly what he was
- 1:15:22Speaker 6: famed for, but Dared Devil had to defend him. He
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: had to go down south to defend him, and unfortunately
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: he lost the case. And he lost the case, and
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: they put the boy in like a gas chamber about
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: to him, and he realized that Daredevil was Matt Murdoch,
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: given that he knew he had the senses. He literally
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: he whispers, Matt helped me. And because it's it's out
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: of his his his hands, he can't do anything, but
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: you know, be there to see him get executed. I
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: remember reading that. I'm like, I get I'm getting chills now,
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: just like remember that cream like that. I remember I
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: had to like I close it and take a breathing
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: and I was just like, what the fuck did I
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: just read? And he also imagined, you know, like Mad
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: dressing up as Devil coming and help him and save him,
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: you know. So that was like a really touching scene.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: Another one is Arange just a New Black, when they.
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: Oh who many you mention that that was such a
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: buried emotion that was back.
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: I had to stop watching for a little bit because that.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: Just stop watching the show after that because I was like,
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: how dare you?
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: And then Pete Valley when the situation with Teak in
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: the car that that destoryed.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Me, I didn't have that far. Ye, it's great, I know,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: it's great. I'm like, I watched the pilot, and I
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: watched the first of the like most of the first season,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: and then I would catch it randomly and just catch
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: random episodes here and there. So I don't, you know,
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: I didn't know, like, yeah, I'm not sure if I
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: saw that with the car. No, I don't think I did.
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: Yeah, that's in the season two, okay.
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: No.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I I called back in later on when I was
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: watching it because remember saying town. I was like, yeah,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: I turned on one episode and all this shit happened.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I was like, what the this show is outrageous.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: It's outrageous.
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: This is why I so uh and just great to
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: you any any medium, any character's death that hurt you deeper.
- 1:17:31Speaker 10: Sorry, Yeah, David omar Little was probably the maybe the
- 1:17:38Speaker 10: only death that I've ever I've been like actually broken
- 1:17:43Speaker 10: up on because I was like, like I loved that
- 1:17:46Speaker 10: character so much.
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: I was like I felt seen and then like this
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: dude like yeah it was, yeah, that one. That one hurt.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: But usually I'm like yeah it was. I was never
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: really like broken up about characters. I was always saw
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: it as picture so I was just like, yeah, there
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: we go, but.
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: That tracks.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: As a fan of horror and a fan of scaring people,
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: was like, well, you're dead now and close the book
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: and keep going.
- 1:18:14Speaker 7: The next.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: I tell us O my story to like. I think
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: it was the second time because I was watching on
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: DVD and I've already seen it. I knew my man died,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: and when he got shot, I sat there eywound the
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: DVD like, nah, if I just rewinded that you're.
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: Gonna we're just gonna stop at season two and that's it.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: It will give me a different scene. Oh my gosh.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: All right, well you have survived, rap, you survived. The
