Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: In your writing life, you will find that it's easy to let go of some things, but much harder to let go of others.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: One of the items that is difficult to let go of is books.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: After all, you're a writer, why would you want to get rid of books?
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Well, the reality is that we fill our lives with clutter, especially in the modern world where we have so much access to almost everything we could ever want.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: But when you consider the books on your shelf, some of those were relevant to your life a decade or two ago, but they no longer have a place.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: You've outgrown the ideas in those books and you've moved on.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: And every time you see those books, you feel guilty because you know you don't need them any longer, but you just can't bring yourself to let them go.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It's hard to hear, but it's true.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: You can't make room for new ideas or new blessings in your life if you keep on hanging on to books that no longer serve your vision.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: When you pass along those books to somebody who can benefit from them, you not only free up your space in your home, you can also bless somebody.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: In fact, you're doing a disservice to a book if you hang on to it after it's no longer relevant in your life.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: I believe that a book wants to bless others, so the best thing you can do is to pass it along.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: It's not meant to be some collector's item, it's meant to change people.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So give your books a chance to do that by giving them away to friends, donating them to goodwill, or by selling them.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: You know, it's okay to recognize the value something has had in your life and then letting it go.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: When you do that, you can make room for new and more relevant books that you can take to whatever destination you're going.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: So don't be afraid to let those books go so they can bless somebody else in the process.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
