- 0:02Speaker 1: Hi again, everybody. I'm Dan Hoard, and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals Booth podcast, the Welcome to My House. In addition,
- 0:13Speaker 1: as the Bengals return to the jungle and look to
- 0:15Speaker 1: knock off one of the best teams in the AFC,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coming up, no member of the national
- 0:22Speaker 1: media has praised the Bengals more in the offseason than
- 0:26Speaker 1: my friend and fellow Syracuse grad Adam Schein. He'll tell
- 0:29Speaker 1: us why. I'll go one-on-one with Amarius Mims, who has
- 0:33Speaker 1: been ridiculously dominant through the first three weeks. And in
- 0:37Speaker 1: this week's Know the Foe segment, we'll check in with
- 0:40Speaker 1: Mark Long, who covers the Jaguars for the Associated Press.

- 1:05Speaker 1: reminder that you can have the latest edition of this
- 1:08Speaker 1: podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet, or computer by
- 1:12Speaker 1: subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the greatest thing
- 1:16Speaker 1: since internet handyman help. I am the world's least handy person.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Replacing a light bulb is about the extent of my
- 1:26Speaker 1: fix-it skills. My sister Kim, on the other hand, can
- 1:29Speaker 1: fix anything, and she gave me the following advice. Just
- 1:33Speaker 1: look it up on the internet. There are videos and
- 1:36Speaker 1: or detailed instructions to fix just about anything. Recently, our
- 1:41Speaker 1: microwave has been acting up, and the unplug it and
- 1:45Speaker 1: then plug it in technique did not do the trick.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's old, so my first instinct was, well, it's time
- 1:52Speaker 1: to buy a new one. But then, I decided to
- 1:55Speaker 1: follow my sister's advice. I typed in a search for
- 1:58Speaker 1: the brand name and explained the problem, and without getting
- 2:01Speaker 1: into the details, it worked. At least for now. To
- 2:05Speaker 1: partially quote Neil Armstrong, it was one small step for man. Now,
- 2:12Speaker 1: let's get to my first guest. No member of the
- 2:14Speaker 1: national media has been more bullish on the Bengals in
- 2:17Speaker 1: recent months than Adam Schein, who has been sharing his
- 2:20Speaker 1: praise for Cincinnati on many outlets. He works for CBS Sports.
- 2:25Speaker 1: host a daily show on Sirius XM Radio, and host
- 2:29Speaker 1: another daily show on YouTube. He carved out some time
- 2:32Speaker 1: in his busy schedule to talk to me. Adam, the
- 2:36Speaker 1: term you have used is obsessed. That is a strong word.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Why have you been obsessed by the Cincinnati Bengals?
- 2:45Speaker 2: I got to tell you, when you quoted me back
- 2:47Speaker 2: to me, Dan, I just got the chills. So, you know,
- 2:50Speaker 2: I enjoy hearing myself quoted back. Look, first of all,
- 2:55Speaker 2: I love great teams, great organizations. I love great fan bases.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And I like when teams go all in to win.
- 3:04Speaker 2: And that might sound in a lot of ways like
- 3:06Speaker 2: Captain Obvious, but, you know, I think for Cincinnati and,
- 3:11Speaker 2: you know, obviously I'm doing national shows and a daily show,
- 3:14Speaker 2: of course, you know, for Sirius XM on Shine On Sports,
- 3:18Speaker 2: on Mad Dog Sports Radio, but I'm also in New York.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And so I follow, obviously, Dexter Lawrence. I have followed him.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And I have felt like he has been underappreciated as
- 3:31Speaker 2: one of the true top four defensive tackles in the
- 3:36Speaker 2: NFL since he's been in the league. And when I
- 3:39Speaker 2: say four, it's not just a random number. I vote
- 3:42Speaker 2: for the Associated Press Awards. And he has, on three
- 3:45Speaker 2: different occasions, been on my first or second team, all pro.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So that means I consider him a top four in
- 3:52Speaker 2: a certain year defensive tackle. So I just thought the
- 3:56Speaker 2: Bengals offseason was so smart and so calculated. And I
- 4:02Speaker 2: thought they did an unbelievable job. And I'm such a
- 4:04Speaker 2: big Dexter Lawrence fan. And listen, giving up a first
- 4:08Speaker 2: round pick to me was nothing because I know who
- 4:12Speaker 2: he is. And I loved the offseason even before that
- 4:16Speaker 2: on defense. And look, I want to see all the
- 4:20Speaker 2: great quarterbacks win. Like, I just think when you get stamped,
- 4:24Speaker 2: it changes the whole thing in the court of public
- 4:26Speaker 2: opinion or what I do for a living. I want
- 4:28Speaker 2: to see Lamar win. I want to see Josh Allen win.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I want to see Joe Burrow win. And these guys
- 4:34Speaker 2: are playing in the Patrick Mahomes era. And that just
- 4:39Speaker 2: stinks to me when you start talking about quarterback rankings
- 4:43Speaker 2: and legacy, and we all get wrapped up. You know,
- 4:45Speaker 2: every year I interview Dan Marino, it's like, Dan, nice career.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Did you win a Super Bowl? No, I'm not going
- 4:49Speaker 2: to say that to Dan Marino. Like, I know how
- 4:51Speaker 2: amazing he was. But when you win one, it changes everything.
- 4:58Speaker 2: And I just think the Bengals, you know, they take
- 5:02Speaker 2: grief sometimes when it's not deserved. You know, and the
- 5:05Speaker 2: year before when they signed Higgins and signed Chase, it was...
- 5:09Speaker 2: it was all the right things and what an organization
- 5:12Speaker 2: does when you have that kind of quarterback. And you know,
- 5:15Speaker 2: what's what the Colts did with Peyton Manning for all
- 5:18Speaker 2: those years with Harrison and Wayne, I want this thing
- 5:22Speaker 2: to work. And I think the world of Zach Taylor,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I think he's, he's a really strong coach and I
- 5:29Speaker 2: like the coaching staff and there's been some changes and change,
- 5:33Speaker 2: not for the sake of change for the right moves
- 5:36Speaker 2: to try to win a championship. So I, yeah, I'm
- 5:39Speaker 2: obsessed with the approach. And listen, I was really, you know,
- 5:44Speaker 2: touting my obsession and, you know, the Bengals' success after
- 5:47Speaker 2: the first two weeks. And here's the thing, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 2: after week three and we're chatting right after, I still
- 5:54Speaker 2: feel the same way because I'm such a believer in
- 5:57Speaker 2: law of averages in the NFL and division games and
- 6:00Speaker 2: road games. And I mean, you were there calling it.
- 6:03Speaker 2: That game was such a banger. What a terrific sporting event.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And Look, I have such respect for the Steelers, and
- 6:10Speaker 2: I picked the Steelers to the playoffs. I thought they
- 6:12Speaker 2: would be really good this year. So everything that I
- 6:16Speaker 2: thought about the Bengals, Dan, I'm still obsessed.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Adam, when Joe Burrow compared the Bengals to the 2019
- 6:23Speaker 1: LSU team that won the national championship and averaged nearly
- 6:28Speaker 1: 50 points a game, what was your reaction?
- 6:31Speaker 2: So I'll tell you my reaction. I honestly thought that
- 6:35Speaker 2: it was genuinely tremendous and genuinely terrific. And I like
- 6:40Speaker 2: when you have players who are confident, and I like
- 6:44Speaker 2: when you have players who are braggadocious, and I like
- 6:48Speaker 2: when you have a leader on a football team who
- 6:51Speaker 2: raises the bar. There's nothing that infuriates me more than, oh,
- 6:57Speaker 2: this is a big year for Joe Burrow. He's going
- 7:00Speaker 2: to want to leave Cincinnati. leaves Cincinnati, he loves Cincinnati.
- 7:05Speaker 2: There's literally no evidence of anything to the contrary. He's
- 7:09Speaker 2: helping to raise the bar in wanting to win a
- 7:13Speaker 2: championship in Cincinnati. So let's even say that that was
- 7:18Speaker 2: slightly subject to hyperbole.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Good.
- 7:21Speaker 2: That's what Joe thinks. That's what he wants. Like, I
- 7:25Speaker 2: consider that LSU offense to be the greatest offense in
- 7:27Speaker 2: the history of college football. You have Jamar Chase. You
- 7:30Speaker 2: have Tee Higgins. It's the best one-two punch that we've
- 7:33Speaker 2: seen in a long time at the wide receiver position.
- 7:36Speaker 2: The offense is great. The offensive line is underrated and
- 7:39Speaker 2: really good. Brown can run the football. You have Juseki
- 7:42Speaker 2: at tight end. I just love everything about what he said,
- 7:46Speaker 2: how it's been backed up, and I... I love that
- 7:50Speaker 2: he has a standard and he holds himself accountable and
- 7:54Speaker 2: the team accountable. And Dan, if the Bengals have swagger,
- 8:00Speaker 2: if the Bengals have attitude, if people on the outside
- 8:05Speaker 2: love them or loathe them, I think that's kind of
- 8:09Speaker 2: good for Cincinnati. It kind of fits Joe Burrow, who
- 8:13Speaker 2: he is, Joe Cool. I thought the world of those comments.
- 8:19Speaker 1: The Bengals face the 2-1 Jaguars this week. They're coming
- 8:22Speaker 1: off a 35-6 blowout win over the Patriots going back
- 8:26Speaker 1: to last year. They're 11-3 in their last 14 games.
- 8:30Speaker 1: How impressed are you with Jacksonville? And what's Cincinnati going
- 8:34Speaker 1: to have to do to beat them this week?
- 8:36Speaker 2: So, I think this is arguably the game of the
- 8:39Speaker 2: week in the NFL. Like, I think this is, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 2: as cliche as it sounds, you know, potential playoff matchup.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Jacksonville's a terrific team. Like, I just think that they
- 8:51Speaker 2: are so well coached. I think the defense is very underrated.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I think they're big, they're physical. They've got, you know,
- 9:00Speaker 2: Parker Washington has really emerged legit number one wide receiver.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I think the world of Trevor Lawrence and who he's become.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Having said that, I just think the Bengals are better. Like,
- 9:13Speaker 2: what do they need to do? I think it's actually,
- 9:16Speaker 2: let me flip it for you. What do the Jags
- 9:19Speaker 2: need to do to beat the Bengals? Like that defense
- 9:22Speaker 2: for Jacksonville is really good. Do they have the corners
- 9:26Speaker 2: to deal with Chase and Higgins? I'm skeptical on that.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You know, can they rush the passer and get to Joe?
- 9:33Speaker 2: Pass rush is good. I don't necessarily think it's elite.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I still very, and listen, I watched so much of
- 9:40Speaker 2: that game doing the updates for the NFL and CBS.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I was really locked in to the Bengals and the Steelers.
- 9:46Speaker 2: You know, everything that I said about Dexter Lawrence and
- 9:49Speaker 2: Allen and the defense, it still stands like it wasn't
- 9:53Speaker 2: the best game we've seen on defense. I expect them
- 9:56Speaker 2: to play more like they did week one. week two.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So I think that everything that you can say about Jacksonville,
- 10:06Speaker 2: you would say about Cincinnati, but the Bengals are better
- 10:09Speaker 2: in every face. And I mean that as a compliment
- 10:12Speaker 2: to the Jacks. Like my preseason pick, I had Bill's
- 10:17Speaker 2: Bengals on championship Sunday. So that's what I'm looking for
- 10:21Speaker 2: week in, week out. Look, and by the way, if
- 10:25Speaker 2: the Bengals lose this game, it's not a quote-unquote bad loss. Like,
- 10:31Speaker 2: I think Jacksonville's a playoff team and a really good team,
- 10:35Speaker 2: but I expect to see the Bengals win because I
- 10:38Speaker 2: think if you go through it, offense, defense, want to
- 10:42Speaker 2: see Cincy clean up the special teams from what transpired
- 10:45Speaker 2: last week against Pittsburgh, evidence says that they will. I
- 10:49Speaker 2: think that Cincinnati is just better than Jacksonville in every phase.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Final question for my friend Adam Schein. When you are
- 10:57Speaker 1: doing the in-game highlights for CBS, have you come to
- 11:01Speaker 1: expect the impossible from Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins?
- 11:06Speaker 2: You know what's crazy about it? When we're doing the updates,
- 11:09Speaker 2: and like we try to be, I'll take you and
- 11:12Speaker 2: your viewers, Dan, kind of like behind the scenes a
- 11:15Speaker 2: little bit, right? Every update's calculated. Like if we're going
- 11:19Speaker 2: to break into your game, there has to be a reason, right?
- 11:24Speaker 2: It's in the division. It's in the conference. You know,
- 11:28Speaker 2: if it's a borough game, hey, let me break in
- 11:30Speaker 2: with Patrick Mahomes or Lamar or Josh Allen, like someone
- 11:34Speaker 2: that Bengals fans, you know, feel something about, right? You know,
- 11:38Speaker 2: you love them, you hate them, you respect them, you
- 11:40Speaker 2: want to beat them, whatever it is. And to me,
- 11:43Speaker 2: the other one is eye candy, where, you know, Jameer
- 11:47Speaker 2: Gibbs has this incredible run. I want to deliver it
- 11:51Speaker 2: to people no matter what the game is. I don't
- 11:53Speaker 2: need overlap for Lions-Jets. Here's Jameer Gibbs. And to me,
- 11:58Speaker 2: that's what the Bengals have become, where it's like, Oh,
- 12:02Speaker 2: my God. Week two. I mean, Jamar did what with
- 12:05Speaker 2: his feet? That's going to be a wheel. We're getting
- 12:08Speaker 2: that to everyone. T. Higgins was, you know, sitting on
- 12:11Speaker 2: the ground. What was that? I mean, we need to
- 12:14Speaker 2: get that to everybody. I mean, it's kind of amazing
- 12:18Speaker 2: when you look at it and you think about it. Like,
- 12:20Speaker 2: every single week, it's like a different highlight, and it's
- 12:23Speaker 2: a different OMG wow moment. I can't believe the Cincinnati
- 12:28Speaker 2: Bengals just did that.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I mean.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I love on Mondays for radio purposes, listening to your
- 12:35Speaker 2: calls and the excitement and the precision on those touchdowns
- 12:40Speaker 2: and how you're just on it because man, I'm just
- 12:44Speaker 2: every single week. It's like, I can't believe Joe just
- 12:48Speaker 2: made that throw. I can't believe T just did that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: How the heck did Jamar chase get his feet in
- 12:55Speaker 2: bounds and, you know, do what he just did and
- 12:58Speaker 2: tap dance. I mean, and watching Jamar to me, It's priceless. Like,
- 13:03Speaker 2: I just think the world of him, and he's such
- 13:05Speaker 2: a special player. But I think in a lot of ways, Dan, T.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Higgins is the most underrated player in the entire league.
- 13:12Speaker 2: He's a legit number one receiver. I think he's a
- 13:15Speaker 2: top 15, top 20 receiver. Maybe overshadowed, obviously, because, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 2: we're dealing with DeMar Chase on the other side, but
- 13:25Speaker 2: I just think These highlights are incredible, and for me,
- 13:28Speaker 2: when I have an opportunity to send America a burrow
- 13:32Speaker 2: to chase Sir Higgins' highlight, it's fun. I'll tell you,
- 13:36Speaker 2: just like there were so many things going on last
- 13:38Speaker 2: week in week three, I don't even think we did
- 13:41Speaker 2: the Jaceki highlight because we kept waiting for the next one. Like,
- 13:46Speaker 2: something else was going to happen in that game, and
- 13:48Speaker 2: I felt bad we just couldn't get it to people,
- 13:51Speaker 2: but it's amazing when it comes to these burrow highlights.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I mean... It's so much fun to watch.
- 13:58Speaker 1: He's on CBS every weekend. He's got a daily show
- 14:02Speaker 1: on Sirius XM. He's got another daily show on YouTube.
- 14:06Speaker 1: And he was nice enough to fit us in this week.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Adam, you're the best.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Thanks for coming on the show.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Dan, for you and for the Bengal fans, anything.
- 14:14Speaker 3: You know that.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I've mentioned this before when Adam was on the podcast,
- 14:18Speaker 1: but I'll tell the story again. After graduating from Syracuse,
- 14:22Speaker 1: I worked there for several years in radio and TV.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And after moving to Cincinnati, my friends back in the
- 14:28Speaker 1: queue started telling me about a young sports talk host
- 14:32Speaker 1: right out of SU that was going to make it big.
- 14:35Speaker 1: He went by Prime Time Shine, and they were right.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Adam has become a star, and I couldn't be happier
- 14:42Speaker 1: for him. He's one of my favorite people in the business.
- 14:46Speaker 1: One of the unfortunate things about last week's loss to
- 14:49Speaker 1: the Steelers is that the end result took the shine
- 14:53Speaker 1: off a great performance by the offensive line. Pittsburgh's only
- 14:57Speaker 1: sack all day came on Cincinnati's final offensive play when
- 15:02Speaker 1: Derek Harmon forced a Joe Burrow fumble that Pittsburgh recovered
- 15:05Speaker 1: to seal the win. Dalton Reisner surrendered the sack.
- 15:09Speaker 4: You got to be at your best when your best
- 15:11Speaker 4: is required and truth be told in the NFL you
- 15:13Speaker 4: know your best is required every single snap and you're
- 15:16Speaker 4: on a microscope and you're on blast every single play
- 15:18Speaker 4: but it's crucial points like yesterday where You know, I
- 15:22Speaker 4: was telling my wife last night, you know, I played
- 15:24Speaker 4: a great football game all day. I'm watching film today.
- 15:27Speaker 4: And dear gosh, I did all these great things. But
- 15:28Speaker 4: on the one play where in my mind it mattered
- 15:30Speaker 4: the most is when I got to be at my
- 15:32Speaker 4: best and I wasn't.
- 15:33Speaker 2: So that's football.
- 15:35Speaker 3: That's life.
- 15:37Speaker 4: And it's tough and it teaches you and it humbles you.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I'm not going to make excuses about it. I'm not
- 15:41Speaker 4: going to try to make it sound better. I gave
- 15:43Speaker 4: up a sack and resulted in being a fumble and
- 15:46Speaker 4: resulted in the game being over.
- 15:48Speaker 3: So that sucks. It's a tough.
- 15:50Speaker 4: Pill to swallow, but I'm going to swallow it, be
- 15:52Speaker 4: a man about it, go back to the drawing board,
- 15:55Speaker 4: continue to work, and good news is we're 2-1 with
- 15:57Speaker 4: a lot of opportunity in front of us.
- 15:59Speaker 2: T.J.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Watt did not have a single pressure in the game
- 16:03Speaker 1: in 29 pass rushing opportunities. According to reporter Jay Morrison,
- 16:07Speaker 1: it was just the sixth time in Watt's career that
- 16:10Speaker 1: he did not record a single pressure. Watt was primarily
- 16:14Speaker 1: matched up against Amarius Mims, who is playing at a
- 16:17Speaker 1: Pro Bowl level through three weeks. Here's offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Amarius has premier ability.
- 16:25Speaker 2: He's got rare qualities.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Rare qualities with a developing maturity and confidence and sense of,
- 16:36Speaker 5: I am this guy. That's where you can find some
- 16:40Speaker 5: special players. Because as a A lot of really talented people,
- 16:44Speaker 5: but there's a fraction of the players in this league
- 16:47Speaker 5: that truly couldn't be special.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And he's in that fraction. I sat down for an
- 16:52Speaker 1: in-depth conversation with Amarius this week. What are you proudest
- 16:57Speaker 1: of when it comes to your performance in the first
- 17:00Speaker 1: three games?
- 17:00Speaker 6: I would say consistency. That's what I pride myself on lately.
- 17:04Speaker 6: And this year, honestly, I just told myself I need
- 17:07Speaker 6: to be more consistent for this team and for myself. And,
- 17:10Speaker 6: you know, I knew, like I said, Coach Pitch and
- 17:12Speaker 6: Zach challenged me before the season started and said, big
- 17:15Speaker 6: part of this offense is going to be ran through you,
- 17:17Speaker 6: and that's just patch protecting. So I just feel like
- 17:19Speaker 6: I just took that and I just ran with it.
- 17:22Speaker 6: And I had to just hone in on the small
- 17:24Speaker 6: stuff and technique things on the field and then just
- 17:28Speaker 6: realizing in my mind that, you know, they're counting on
- 17:30Speaker 6: me to protect and protect at a high level. And
- 17:33Speaker 6: I just feel like right now it's been solid, but
- 17:35Speaker 6: I just got to keep doing it throughout the season.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Reuben Bain, Will Anderson, TJ Watt. Is your confidence growing?
- 17:43Speaker 6: Yeah, it's been growing since camp, though. Like I said,
- 17:45Speaker 6: it started way before those guys. I knew really before
- 17:48Speaker 6: the season even started that, you know, I could tell
- 17:50Speaker 6: my game was taking a step forward, and that's just
- 17:52Speaker 6: because I've just been taking, you know, time off the
- 17:55Speaker 6: field to, like, really, like, reflect and think, like, what
- 17:57Speaker 6: I really want in my football career, and that's to be, like,
- 17:59Speaker 6: one of the top tacklers. And I feel like for
- 18:01Speaker 6: me to do that, I have to just take a step,
- 18:03Speaker 6: you know, forward off the field, of course, and on
- 18:04Speaker 6: the field.
- 18:05Speaker 3: And I feel like slowly I've been doing that.
- 18:07Speaker 1: In April, I asked your coach, offensive line coach Scott Peters,
- 18:11Speaker 1: what's next for Amarius Mims? He said the following, total domination,
- 18:16Speaker 1: a license to kill, which I loved.
- 18:19Speaker 3: That sounds right.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Have you taken that to heart?
- 18:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I have, man.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Like I said, me and Scott talk a lot, whether
- 18:25Speaker 6: we're in practice, the meeting rooms, or even text outside
- 18:28Speaker 6: of practice and stuff like that. He's always just reminding
- 18:30Speaker 6: me of those things you just said and just realizing, like,
- 18:34Speaker 6: you know, that, just because you're playing solid doesn't mean
- 18:37Speaker 6: like your game is like ends there. Like I still
- 18:40Speaker 6: have room to grow and he knows that he keeps
- 18:42Speaker 6: pushing me day in and day out. So it'll help
- 18:44Speaker 6: me in the long run.
- 18:45Speaker 1: He also said that he gave you this challenge. You've
- 18:49Speaker 1: got to be greedy about how good you can be
- 18:52Speaker 1: because there are very few humans walking planet earth that
- 18:55Speaker 1: have your talent. So when he says you've got to
- 18:59Speaker 1: be greedy, what does that mean to you?
- 19:01Speaker 6: As a big guy, sometimes I can make winning look easy. And, um,
- 19:05Speaker 6: People say, like, it doesn't look like I'm trying.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I am trying.
- 19:09Speaker 6: It's just it may not be to what someone who
- 19:11Speaker 6: is a little smaller than me's level of trying is.
- 19:15Speaker 6: But he's just really, like, meaning by that is just
- 19:18Speaker 6: how much more do you have left in the tank? Like,
- 19:20Speaker 6: can you turn this excellent pass pro game into an
- 19:25Speaker 6: excellent pass pro game and then a.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Couple of knockdowns and bury it at the end? That's
- 19:29Speaker 3: basically what he's saying.
- 19:30Speaker 1: You do make it look easy at times, and as
- 19:33Speaker 1: you just acknowledged, it's anything but. You're trying to prevent
- 19:37Speaker 1: some of the best athletes in the world from getting
- 19:39Speaker 1: to your quarterback. How do you take it, though, when
- 19:41Speaker 1: people say you make it look easy? Do you take
- 19:43Speaker 1: that as a compliment, or do you want to push
- 19:45Speaker 1: back and say, it's not easy?
- 19:47Speaker 6: I mean, they know it's not easy. If it was easy,
- 19:49Speaker 6: it would be. would be a lot of good tacklers
- 19:51Speaker 6: in this NFL. There would be a lot of people
- 19:53Speaker 6: in this NFL playing if the NFL was easy.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Nothing about it is easy.
- 19:57Speaker 6: It's just, like I said, I'm a bigger guy, 6'8,
- 20:00Speaker 6: 350-something pounds, just moving around out there, so it may
- 20:04Speaker 6: seem easier to me because how strong I am and
- 20:06Speaker 6: how big, and I get away with a lot of
- 20:07Speaker 6: stuff sometimes, but I will say it's definitely not easy,
- 20:11Speaker 6: but I don't really like to listen to when people
- 20:13Speaker 6: say that, Oh, you need to do this and do that.
- 20:15Speaker 6: I listened to my coaches and they tell me I
- 20:17Speaker 6: need to do something.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Take note of it. And then I'll move on.
- 20:20Speaker 1: You're two years and three games into your NFL career.
- 20:24Speaker 1: What's improved the most knowledge, footwork, hand placement. If you
- 20:28Speaker 1: had to pick out one thing that's gotten better, what
- 20:31Speaker 1: would that thing be?
- 20:32Speaker 6: I would definitely say knowledge first, just because I understand
- 20:35Speaker 6: the game now way more than the normal, uh, I've
- 20:38Speaker 6: been locked in on film, so I can just read tales.
- 20:42Speaker 6: I can read the guy I'm playing across from. I
- 20:44Speaker 6: can see what he's going to do before he do it,
- 20:46Speaker 6: just off his stance and stuff like that, the tilt,
- 20:48Speaker 6: how wide he is and all that good stuff. And then, too,
- 20:50Speaker 6: just me just realizing, like I said, I know what
- 20:53Speaker 6: I want to be in this league and just realizing
- 20:57Speaker 6: just by playing average, I'm not going to get that.
- 20:59Speaker 6: So I've got to go out and just show people
- 21:00Speaker 6: that I can be one of the top tackles, and
- 21:03Speaker 6: I'm just going to keep going week by week and
- 21:05Speaker 6: trying to prove that.
- 21:06Speaker 1: As Coach said, there are a few– humans walking planet
- 21:09Speaker 1: Earth that have your measurables. 6'8, 350, your hand from
- 21:14Speaker 1: pinky to thumb is a foot, basically. Your wingspan is
- 21:17Speaker 1: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. It's 7'2. Of these physical, God-given gifts, which
- 21:23Speaker 1: helps you most?
- 21:25Speaker 3: I think it's my feet. I feel like it's my feet.
- 21:28Speaker 6: I just feel like for a big guy, I feel
- 21:30Speaker 6: like if I can get away with taking a bad
- 21:32Speaker 6: set sometimes, it's not good for me. Of course, don't
- 21:34Speaker 6: get me wrong, but I feel like just being agile
- 21:37Speaker 6: and being able to move to be a big guy
- 21:38Speaker 6: saves me a lot. So save my life. I'm on
- 21:41Speaker 6: the road and that like the DN gets off the
- 21:43Speaker 6: snap early. I don't really panic. I just like rely
- 21:46Speaker 6: on my athletic ability to try to catch up. And then,
- 21:49Speaker 6: then I go like play ball from there kind of
- 21:51Speaker 6: in a sense. So I just feel like it's more
- 21:52Speaker 6: so my feet and just my athletic ability other than
- 21:55Speaker 6: like my measurables.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I'll say your feet are great except when your shoe explodes.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:03Speaker 1: You and Zion Williamson, the two, Famous guys now have
- 22:06Speaker 1: had shoes explode in a game. For people that heard
- 22:10Speaker 1: you say that, explain exactly what happened to your shoe
- 22:15Speaker 1: in the Houston game.
- 22:16Speaker 6: I just remember taking a pass set, getting board rushed,
- 22:18Speaker 6: and I planted down. Coach always told me to hop
- 22:21Speaker 6: when I get board rushed. So I hop, hop, and
- 22:23Speaker 6: I hopped that third time. I think it was my
- 22:25Speaker 6: second or third time, and I felt like something just
- 22:27Speaker 6: felt off. I felt like my foot was on the ground,
- 22:32Speaker 6: and I looked down, and the whole side of my
- 22:33Speaker 6: cleat was busted out. And I was like, Dang, like,
- 22:36Speaker 6: I can't do nothing with these no more. And I
- 22:38Speaker 6: was like, man, Zion got a new shoe after his
- 22:40Speaker 6: little thing, didn't he? I was like, man, I might
- 22:42Speaker 6: need some cleats after me, man. I'm just throwing that
- 22:44Speaker 6: out there.
- 22:44Speaker 3: That would be nice. You know, some big man, some
- 22:46Speaker 3: O-line cleats or something. That would be nice.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I think it has to happen.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Yeah, man. That would be nice.
- 22:51Speaker 1: So, basically, the leather ripped apart from.
- 22:54Speaker 6: The– I'm talking about his, like, sole, leather, thread, shoestring, Nike, everything, cloth,
- 23:02Speaker 6: every piece, man, just gone. I still got those cleats, though.
- 23:07Speaker 6: I'm going to sign them and put them in a frame,
- 23:10Speaker 6: I think, and keep them.
- 23:11Speaker 7: Nice.
- 23:11Speaker 1: That would be a good keepsake. Last week's game in
- 23:14Speaker 1: Pittsburgh was a good reminder of just how brutal offensive
- 23:17Speaker 1: line life is for 59 minutes plus. You guys pitched
- 23:22Speaker 1: a shutout in terms of sacks. You didn't give up any.
- 23:24Speaker 1: And then on the final offensive play, Pittsburgh got to
- 23:27Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, and it ended the game. Is that part
- 23:30Speaker 1: of the job miserable?
- 23:32Speaker 6: Yeah, like I said, our job's already hard, I mean,
- 23:34Speaker 6: we have, I feel like, other than quarterback, and a
- 23:36Speaker 6: couple other things, I feel like Ola is the hardest,
- 23:38Speaker 6: because I feel like we have to protect ourselves, and
- 23:40Speaker 6: protecting another guy behind us, who is, that is a franchise,
- 23:43Speaker 6: as you know, so, I will say, we take pride
- 23:46Speaker 6: in it, it's not an easy job, but we love it,
- 23:49Speaker 6: I wouldn't want another job, like, that's why, like I said,
- 23:53Speaker 6: most tackles get paid the big bucks, and that's why
- 23:55Speaker 6: guards get paid the big bucks, and our center get
- 23:56Speaker 6: paid the big bucks, like, you got to go out
- 23:58Speaker 6: there and protect. And I felt like we did a
- 24:00Speaker 6: good job. You know, mistakes happen. Sad, sad thing is
- 24:02Speaker 6: like it happened at that time. But that's all we
- 24:07Speaker 6: can do is, you know, learn from that mistake and
- 24:10Speaker 6: we can move on as a team, regardless of who
- 24:12Speaker 6: it was on. I got their back that if it
- 24:14Speaker 6: was on me, they would have my back. And we
- 24:17Speaker 6: just learn from those mistakes and we move on and,
- 24:19Speaker 6: you know, try to prevent those mistakes from happening again.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You're 23 for a few more weeks. Willie Anderson played
- 24:26Speaker 1: until he was 33. Andrew Whitworth played until he was 40.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Do you see.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yourself doing something like that, and what would you like
- 24:33Speaker 1: to accomplish?
- 24:34Speaker 6: As long as my body can hold up and I
- 24:37Speaker 6: can play at a high level, I'll play this game.
- 24:39Speaker 6: Once it's done, it's done. You know, I mean, of
- 24:42Speaker 6: course guys will tire and come back, but that won't
- 24:44Speaker 6: be me. I'm going to be a guy who's going
- 24:46Speaker 6: to be here and be in the building as long
- 24:49Speaker 6: as my body will let me. And I know the
- 24:51Speaker 6: accolades and all that stuff, you know, I take pride
- 24:53Speaker 6: in that thing, like those things, and I want those. Ultimately,
- 24:57Speaker 6: I just want to win. I want to be known
- 24:59Speaker 6: for a guy who comes in to work every day
- 25:02Speaker 6: and just has a winning attitude. I take my one-on-ones very,
- 25:06Speaker 6: very seriously. Pass, pro, run, block, and all that good stuff. Also,
- 25:10Speaker 6: I just want to be a guy on the team
- 25:12Speaker 6: that that guy right there wants to win.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Yes, the Pro Bowls and the All-Pros, of course I
- 25:18Speaker 3: want that. Who doesn't?
- 25:19Speaker 6: Those are the highest accolades possible. Then you've got the
- 25:23Speaker 6: Hall of Fame, of course, but I really just want
- 25:25Speaker 6: to be known for a guy who really wants to win.
- 25:27Speaker 6: I come from a winning background at Georgia. I really
- 25:29Speaker 6: didn't really know what it was like to lose, besides
- 25:32Speaker 6: whenever we lost to Alabama twice in the NCAA championship game.
- 25:36Speaker 3: But that's all. I just like to win, and I
- 25:39Speaker 3: know how to win.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Speaking of Georgia, you face a former teammate this week.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I ran down the list of great pass rushers. that
- 25:46Speaker 1: you faced, and this week it's the number one overall
- 25:49Speaker 1: pick in the draft from several years ago, Trayvon Walker.
- 25:52Speaker 1: What did you learn from your one year as his teammate?
- 25:55Speaker 6: I will say Trayvon was, like I said, a great
- 25:58Speaker 6: dude to me, almost like a big brother in college
- 26:00Speaker 6: because we're both from Georgia. I knew him a little
- 26:03Speaker 6: bit before I got there. But Trayvon was one of
- 26:05Speaker 6: the guys I would say that literally introduced me to
- 26:09Speaker 6: Division I football because he was the first person to
- 26:12Speaker 6: ever make me literally look at the ceiling. I remember
- 26:15Speaker 6: we were doing a one-on-one pass rush, and I just remember,
- 26:18Speaker 6: like I'm taking a pass at him, my foot get
- 26:20Speaker 6: caught in the turf. He had a club on at
- 26:22Speaker 6: the time. He put his club right here, right below
- 26:24Speaker 6: my neck, and just watched me. And I just remember
- 26:27Speaker 6: feet up in the air, and I remember just laying
- 26:28Speaker 6: down looking at the ceiling. And I told myself, I
- 26:31Speaker 6: was like, as long as you play football, never want
- 26:34Speaker 6: to get comfortable with the position right here. Never want
- 26:36Speaker 6: to look at the ceiling. So I will say I
- 26:38Speaker 6: appreciate him for that moment. But after that, I never
- 26:42Speaker 6: really ended up on the ground like that no more.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Even in the league.
- 26:45Speaker 6: But I will say, like I said, great player. I
- 26:47Speaker 6: respect his game. And I'm pretty sure it's vice versa.
- 26:50Speaker 6: We've been going to each other for a long time.
- 26:52Speaker 6: Been doing it for a long time. Every offseason, like
- 26:54Speaker 6: I said, we get together, chit-chatting, all that good stuff.
- 26:56Speaker 6: We catch up. Like I said, we go to some
- 26:58Speaker 6: games together back in Athens. But like I said, it's
- 27:02Speaker 6: going to be a test this week. And I'm ready
- 27:04Speaker 6: for it, man. It's going to be exciting.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I'm sure you are ready for it. You have been
- 27:08Speaker 1: spectacular so far this season. Continued success. Thanks for your time.
- 27:12Speaker 7: Yes, sir.
- 27:12Speaker 3: I appreciate you.
- 27:14Speaker 1: We'll take an in-depth look at the Jaguars next, but first,
- 27:17Speaker 1: a quick reminder that the Bengals Booth Podcast is brought
- 27:19Speaker 1: to you by Paycor, proud to be the Bengals' official
- 27:22Speaker 1: HR software provider. By AltaFiber, future-proof fiber internet designed to
- 27:27Speaker 1: elevate your home, business, and community to a new level.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And by Kettering Health, the best care for the best fans.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Kettering Health is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Finally,
- 27:39Speaker 1: it's time for this week's Know the Foe segment. As
- 27:41Speaker 1: we get the lowdown on the Jaguars, from Mark Long,
- 27:45Speaker 1: who covers the team for the AP. He joined Wayne
- 27:48Speaker 1: Box Miller and me on the Bengals Game Plan Show,
- 27:50Speaker 1: and I started our conversation by asking Mark about the Jaguars'
- 27:55Speaker 1: outstanding defense, currently ranked number one in fewest points allowed
- 28:00Speaker 1: at 12 per game.
- 28:02Speaker 7: Well, it really does start with a lot of continuity, right?
- 28:05Speaker 7: They return their defensive coordinator from a year ago. They return...
- 28:11Speaker 7: 10 of 11 starters on that side of the ball.
- 28:15Speaker 7: So they know what they're doing. They're comfortable in their scheme.
- 28:19Speaker 7: So that's where it kind of really shows. And they
- 28:22Speaker 7: pick up where they left off last year. This is
- 28:24Speaker 7: a really good defense last year that could stop the run.
- 28:26Speaker 7: They led the NFL in rushing defense. And, again, looks
- 28:32Speaker 7: like they're going to be one of the top rushing
- 28:34Speaker 7: defenses in the league again. It starts with Devon Hamilton.
- 28:38Speaker 7: He's not the name on the defensive side of the ball,
- 28:41Speaker 7: but he is their– really their best player, their best
- 28:43Speaker 7: player against the run. He's a nose tackle who's just
- 28:46Speaker 7: a complete handful. You guys know a little thing about
- 28:50Speaker 7: that up there with Dexter Lawrence, but he is their
- 28:54Speaker 7: version of Dexter Lawrence, a little bit different body style,
- 28:58Speaker 7: doesn't quite get the push, but, man, is he tough
- 29:01Speaker 7: to run on. And then they're in. You know, they
- 29:04Speaker 7: set the edge, Josh Hines and Alan Trayvon Walker, not
- 29:08Speaker 7: over-the-top fantastic pass rushers, but very good at setting the
- 29:13Speaker 7: edge and not letting people get outside them, being able
- 29:16Speaker 7: to stop the run. So for them, that's where it starts. Secondary,
- 29:21Speaker 7: unproven a little bit because Travis Hunter's still in there.
- 29:24Speaker 7: They're rotating their cornerbacks around. They don't really know what
- 29:28Speaker 7: they've got with him yet. So I think this is
- 29:30Speaker 7: going to be his first really good test of this season.
- 29:34Speaker 7: He missed half of last year, of the injury, missed
- 29:38Speaker 7: most of the offseason, rehabbing from the injury, and they've
- 29:41Speaker 7: rotated him through the first three games. So this will
- 29:45Speaker 7: be his first unbelievable test when you're talking about going
- 29:48Speaker 7: against that unbelievable duo of Jamar Chase and T.
- 29:53Speaker 3: Higgins.
- 29:55Speaker 8: Yeah, I was looking at the three games this year.
- 29:57Speaker 8: The interesting thing, the two games they win, multiple sacks,
- 30:01Speaker 8: even five sacks, I think the first game against Cleveland,
- 30:04Speaker 8: but against Denver, no sacks. It would seem that they
- 30:07Speaker 8: really want to make sure they get to the quarterback
- 30:09Speaker 8: to get their defense in rhythm.
- 30:12Speaker 7: Yeah, that is absolutely what they need to do. They
- 30:15Speaker 7: need to get Trayvon Walker and Josh Heinz-Allen involved, get
- 30:19Speaker 7: them pressuring the quarterback. They've seen a lot of quick game.
- 30:22Speaker 7: Deshaun Watson, they got him late when the score was
- 30:26Speaker 7: out of reach, but it was a lot of quick
- 30:27Speaker 7: game early. Certainly week two, Bo Nix moved the pocket.
- 30:32Speaker 7: A lot of quick game. Drake May, last week in
- 30:35Speaker 7: New England, same thing. A lot of quick game, trying
- 30:38Speaker 7: to get rid of the ball. Because these guys can.
- 30:40Speaker 7: They can wreck games, and they're a handful up front.
- 30:43Speaker 7: I believe if you go back to last season, Cincinnati
- 30:46Speaker 7: versus Jacksonville, Trayvon Walker really kind of had his way with–
- 30:52Speaker 7: Amarius Mims on the right side. So it'll be interesting.
- 30:55Speaker 7: Amarius Mims has made huge strides since that week two
- 30:58Speaker 7: matchup last year. So it'll be interesting to see what
- 31:02Speaker 7: that matchup head-to-head looks like in year two.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Mark Long is our guest talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Let's talk about Trevor Lawrence. He looks like he was
- 31:12Speaker 1: made in a quarterback lab.
- 31:14Speaker 2: 6'6, 220, glorious hair.
- 31:18Speaker 1: What has Liam Cohen done to bring out the best
- 31:22Speaker 1: in Trevor Lawrence?
- 31:24Speaker 7: Well, everything. You know, this is exactly what Trevor needed
- 31:28Speaker 7: for his career. You look at a guy who was
- 31:30Speaker 7: drafted first overall in 2021 by Urban Meyer, and that
- 31:35Speaker 7: was a complete debacle. We all know how that started.
- 31:39Speaker 7: Week four in Cincinnati, Urban decides strangely to stick around
- 31:45Speaker 7: after that game. and ends up at his restaurant there
- 31:49Speaker 7: in Columbus, gets in all sorts of trouble, and it
- 31:52Speaker 7: really was the beginning of the end for Urban Meyer.
- 31:55Speaker 7: But that just ruined Trevor Lawrence's rookie year. Then he
- 31:59Speaker 7: looks like he's going to turn the corner with Doug Peterson,
- 32:02Speaker 7: but that turns into a debacle because you had offensive
- 32:06Speaker 7: coaches pointing the finger at each other, offensive coaches not
- 32:10Speaker 7: even talking during game planning. You know, or Doug Peterson
- 32:14Speaker 7: decided to give up play calling all of that affects
- 32:17Speaker 7: the young quarterback and it did. And finally in year
- 32:22Speaker 7: five for Trevor Lawrence, he basically gets saved here with, um,
- 32:28Speaker 7: with Liam Cohen and Liam fantastic mentor played the position.
- 32:34Speaker 7: So he knows what he's talking about and he's really
- 32:37Speaker 7: found a different level for Trevor Lawrence. He's unafraid to
- 32:41Speaker 7: use his legs, run the ball. He doesn't slide. He
- 32:44Speaker 7: dived headfirst to try to– he doesn't want that face up,
- 32:48Speaker 7: making himself vulnerable to sliding hits. But, yeah, when you
- 32:54Speaker 7: look at an offensive game planner, that's what Liam Cohen's
- 32:57Speaker 7: really good at, game planning, call and plays, changing up formations,
- 33:03Speaker 7: getting a lot of shifts, all of that, disguising the look,
- 33:06Speaker 7: kind of a three-ring circus up front. And Trevor's got
- 33:10Speaker 7: it all. He's got it all hands down. He's figured
- 33:12Speaker 7: it out. And I think one of the things, the
- 33:16Speaker 7: other thing that's helped is they've added some talent around,
- 33:19Speaker 7: and Parker Washington's come on. They added Jacoby Myers, dependable
- 33:23Speaker 7: receivers on the outside. They drafted Josh Cameron this year,
- 33:27Speaker 7: and he's rookie, and he's just been a standout stud
- 33:29Speaker 7: for them, a guy they absolutely love. Brian Thomas Jr.
- 33:33Speaker 7: can stretch the field. They're playing a lot of 12
- 33:35Speaker 7: personnel with two tight ends. So they're doing a lot
- 33:38Speaker 7: of things. to help Trevor out and maybe not make
- 33:42Speaker 7: and then the offensive line really that's probably where it
- 33:45Speaker 7: starts for them is the offensive line played well they
- 33:48Speaker 7: shifted some things around and they're giving him time and
- 33:50Speaker 7: he'll pick you apart and that's what he's done in
- 33:52Speaker 7: two of the three games and even in the first
- 33:54Speaker 7: half against Denver kind of had his way in Denver
- 33:57Speaker 7: until second half changes.
- 34:00Speaker 8: Is the Travis Hunter experiment on offense over or do
- 34:03Speaker 8: they still plan to use him here and there on
- 34:07Speaker 8: some specific plays.
- 34:09Speaker 7: Yeah, that is a great question, and I wouldn't say
- 34:14Speaker 7: it's over. They got packages of plays for him every
- 34:17Speaker 7: single week on offense, but they don't need him on
- 34:20Speaker 7: offense right now. So Jacoby Myers has been fantastic as
- 34:25Speaker 7: a possession receiver. Parker Washington has been outstanding as kind
- 34:30Speaker 7: of their go-to guy. Again, Josh Cameron, a rookie, has
- 34:34Speaker 7: stepped in and filled that number three role with Brian
- 34:37Speaker 7: Thomas Jr. Those two guys– So they just don't need
- 34:40Speaker 7: Travis Hunter on that side of.
- 34:41Speaker 1: The ball.
- 34:43Speaker 7: Yet. Now, if they have to, they'll play him over there,
- 34:46Speaker 7: but they've got a package of plays for him, but
- 34:48Speaker 7: they're not going to force it. That's kind of been
- 34:50Speaker 7: their mentality. We don't need to force this right now.
- 34:52Speaker 7: He missed half of last season with the injury. He
- 34:56Speaker 7: missed all of the offseason with the injury. So they're
- 34:58Speaker 7: bringing him along slowly, and I think they overwhelmed him
- 35:02Speaker 7: last year by bringing him in, bringing him in, as
- 35:06Speaker 7: the second overall pick, throwing him in on offense and
- 35:09Speaker 7: defense and letting him learn both. Well, trying to learn both,
- 35:12Speaker 7: he really never mastered either. And that was a problem.
- 35:16Speaker 7: And I think they saw that midway through the year
- 35:19Speaker 7: that he didn't know where to line up. He didn't
- 35:20Speaker 7: know where to line up on offense. And he really
- 35:22Speaker 7: didn't know where to line up on defense. And even
- 35:24Speaker 7: to this day, when you look at him out there,
- 35:27Speaker 7: he still turns probably 60% of the time. He's after
- 35:31Speaker 7: the huddle on defense and even offense, he has to
- 35:36Speaker 7: be told where to line up and reminded of what
- 35:38Speaker 7: they're doing. So there is still a learning curve for
- 35:42Speaker 7: this guy. The EVP, Tony Battelli is like, listen, we're
- 35:46Speaker 7: still looking at him. He's played, you know, 12 games
- 35:49Speaker 7: at this point. He's not even full, fully finished with
- 35:52Speaker 7: his rookie year as far as they're concerned. So they
- 35:55Speaker 7: don't see it as an issue yet. I know this,
- 35:58Speaker 7: Travis Hunter wants to play more. He wants to play
- 36:01Speaker 7: on offense. So at some point, you wonder, will that
- 36:05Speaker 7: kind of become an ugly scenario where him or his
- 36:09Speaker 7: camp are demanding more and the Jags have to figure out,
- 36:13Speaker 7: do they give in or do they continue on the
- 36:17Speaker 7: path that they're at right now? They do like him
- 36:19Speaker 7: on defense and they think he can be a Pro
- 36:22Speaker 7: Bowl cornerback. it just, you know, he hasn't quite gotten
- 36:27Speaker 7: the opportunity to play out there. He's much better in
- 36:29Speaker 7: man than zone. That's the other thing. And they're kind
- 36:31Speaker 7: of a zone defense right now. So it'd be interesting
- 36:34Speaker 7: to see if they switch that up this weekend and
- 36:37Speaker 7: maybe give Travis Hunter, you know, a lot of man
- 36:40Speaker 7: opportunity on Jamar chase, or, you know, if they bracket Jamar,
- 36:43Speaker 7: do they put Travis Hunter on T Higgins and take
- 36:47Speaker 7: their chances that way?
- 36:49Speaker 1: Mark, my final question has to do with the running
- 36:51Speaker 1: back position. I think if you asked a casual NFL
- 36:54Speaker 1: fan who's the top running back for the Jaguars, they'd
- 36:57Speaker 1: probably still say Travis Etienne, even though he signed as
- 37:00Speaker 1: a free agent with the Saints. Bayshall Tootin is on
- 37:05Speaker 1: a pace to run for more than 1,100 yards. How
- 37:07Speaker 1: good is Bayshall Tootin?
- 37:10Speaker 7: Yeah, he's got great vision and a great cutback ability,
- 37:15Speaker 7: and then we haven't quite seen it yet, but great speed.
- 37:18Speaker 7: This is a guy who ran 4.28, I think, at
- 37:21Speaker 7: the NFL Combine. That's one of the things they loved
- 37:23Speaker 7: about him is they just thought he was a home
- 37:25Speaker 7: run hitter. So they haven't gotten him. He hasn't quite
- 37:28Speaker 7: gotten that home run hit yet, and so they're kind
- 37:31Speaker 7: of waiting on that, but they think it's coming. He's
- 37:34Speaker 7: had a couple where it's like shoestring tackle here, arm
- 37:38Speaker 7: tackle there. Just one move, one step away from breaking one. So,
- 37:45Speaker 7: you know, if you're the Bengals, you're hoping it doesn't
- 37:47Speaker 7: happen this week. But if you're the Jags, you're kind
- 37:50Speaker 7: of fingers crossed. We think he's going to break through
- 37:53Speaker 7: at some point. And the sooner the better for the
- 37:57Speaker 7: Jags as far as they're concerned.
