- 0:22All right, everybody, you're listening to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports
- 0:25Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world
- 0:30ten years strong. We've got a great discussion coming your way. As always
- 0:34here on our Table Talk interview shows. This week, we're gonna be getting
- 0:37into the Philadelphia Flyers, some MHL hockey, and specifically with the Flyers,
- 0:42where this new front office is going to be taking this team organization, and
- 0:47just where the Flyers are gonna be going in the future. Because this is
- 0:50a new era. This is a new era. For sure. There is
- 0:53some excitement out there. There's some excitement. Now what's the degree of that
- 0:58excitement. It remains to be seen. Of course, aftertime, what happens
- 1:03with this offseason is going to dictate a lot of that. But we've got
- 1:06a great guest. Let's get to our discussion right now about this Flyers team,
- 1:10this organization, and where they're heading in the future. It is so
- 1:14wonderful to have back on the show. I absolutely love talking to her about
- 1:17the Philadelphia Flyers and I love talking to her about the NHL as well.
- 1:22We have from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. I am a subscriber, head on
- 1:25over there and help them out because they've produced fantastic content. And you can
- 1:30also hear her awesome voice over at the BSh radio podcast Broadstreet Hockey Radio.
- 1:36I listen on Apple podcast. We've got the one and only Kelly Hinkle.
- 1:38How are you doing, Kelly? Ni Jeff, how are you doing?
- 1:42I'm doing all right. You know, look, we're not we're not here,
- 1:45of course to talk about the Philadelphia seventy six ers. But my god,
- 1:47WoT a heartbreak yesterday. Folks in the podcast feed, My reactions are
- 1:51there, you can listen to that. But we have another heartbreaker of a
- 1:53team that we want to get into, which is the Philadelphia Flyers. But
- 1:57but I hesitate to say that. Within my Philly sports heart that I have,
- 2:02it's a darkening black heart that has occurred over so long and such a
- 2:10period of time that like, I feel hopeful for some reason, and we're
- 2:15going to get into you know, what's been happening with the Flyers, happening
- 2:17to the front office as well. But I'm feeling I don't know if why
- 2:21I'm feeling hopeful. I know on the BSAH Radio podcast you've used that word
- 2:24hopeful and hope in the past, I don't know, are you Are you
- 2:28feeling hope? Are you feeling hope? Kelly, I'm a real sucker,
- 2:32Jeff. Every year, yes, every year, over the course of the
- 2:37summer, I find myself getting progressively more optimistic and hopeful about this dumb hockey
- 2:43team. Yeah, and then every year they knocked me back down to reality.
- 2:46But maybe this will be the year that the optimism actually pays off.
- 2:51Maybe it'll be heaven exactly me. You never know, you never know.
- 2:54Look, maybe in like November December this year, we'll be saying, you
- 2:58know, it's a you know, couple of years before another couple of years,
- 3:01you know, famous phrase. But look, before we get into the
- 3:06flyers, Kelly, something I wanted to talk about here on our podcast this
- 3:09past week with Len didn't have time to talk to him like about that in
- 3:13particular, was something that BSh Radio and I don't I don't think. I
- 3:17don't know if you were on that particular episode, but something your co host
- 3:22touched on was regard with regard to the Chicago Blackhawks and just the fact that
- 3:27they have the now the number one overall pick heading into this NHL Draft Meanwhile,
- 3:30like US hockey fans that understand certain organizations, how certain organizations are run
- 3:37throughout the league, the Blackhawks, they're just a terrible organization. They covered
- 3:42up a sexual abuse and sexual assault situations in the past, and it never
- 3:47ceases to amaze me how they are the NHL's golden child. That team can
- 3:53do no wrong obviously, and it just it kind of goes to show that
- 3:57there's no justice in the NHL. And you're co host, and both your
- 4:00co host in Bill Matt's and Steph Driver, I believe we're saying that exact
- 4:05same thing. There's just no justice in this league. So with regard to
- 4:10the Chicago Blackhawks, just getting that number one overall pick based on or I
- 4:15should say, after what their organization has been through, what they've done,
- 4:18what they've covered up. You know, what are your thoughts on all this?
- 4:23Yeah, the NHL never seems to discipline teams or players really in a
- 4:29way that makes any kind of sense. Yeah, given what we found out
- 4:32about the Blackhawks, I mean they got that, you know, a two
- 4:36million dollar fine of paltry sum. Are that billionaire family exactly? You know,
- 4:43and nothing for a professional sports franchise. Yeah, I think taking away
- 4:48their first round picks would have been at minimum a pretty fair punishment for what
- 4:55we found out that that organization did. It was important. It's like,
- 4:59right, thinking about it is just like it's terrible. You know, if
- 5:02you're a listeners who don't know, they can look it up. I don't
- 5:04really think we need to get into it. But yeah, you know a
- 5:10lot of people say things like, you know, well everybody that was there
- 5:12when it happened has been fired. Know all these new people here there,
- 5:16it's whatever, But like, you know, the same family still owns the
- 5:19team, same family owns Team franchise exactly, the organization itself. I'm sorry
- 5:25it interrupted, right, No, no, no, it's okay. And
- 5:27there was just no real punishment for it. And that's that's a shame because
- 5:32you know, not only is it a shame for Kyle Beach, the victim
- 5:36of the crime, but it also just kind of shows that it doesn't matter
- 5:44what an NHL franchise does. It doesn't matter how low they sank, it
- 5:47doesn't matter how many rules they break. At the end of the day,
- 5:53there's hardly ever going to be any actual consequence. Well, let's give them
- 5:57the number one pick, So let's give them the number one over how about
- 6:00that? And that's the other thing, Like, not only that, but
- 6:02like the black Hawks were the team that most explicitly tanked this season. Like
- 6:10there were a lot of big, bad teams, um, but no one
- 6:15tanked it like the black Hawks. Like they were obviously like getting rid of
- 6:18top end talent, not giving a shit about winning a single game, Like
- 6:23they were very clear that they were tanking this season specifically for this reason.
- 6:29And that's another thing that the NHL constantly says, like we don't like this,
- 6:32we don't like we don't want teams to tank, we don't like this
- 6:34behavior. It's, you know, contrary to hockey culture. Blah blah blah
- 6:38blah blah. And so it's just that all of all of the bad things
- 6:42that the black Hawks did led them to this prize that I could end up
- 6:46being one of the best players to ever play the game. And it just
- 6:49sucks. It just sucks. The Flyers could have tanked but decided to win
- 6:56what seven out of their last fifteen games or something like they they couldn't yea
- 7:00and they decided not to. Yeah, and you know that a lot of
- 7:03good death did them right, Yep, So they're following us, Yeah,
- 7:09sure, yeah, exactly, exactly cool. Yeah, we're following. We're
- 7:12following what the NHL wants to do, or like trying to win. Our
- 7:15head coach and John Tournureaux trying to win. You know, we're gonna we
- 7:17know what the talent is like on this team, but we're still gonna try
- 7:20to win, even though it's not in our best interest going into this draft
- 7:25and going into this overall rebuild as well. Yeah, it just yet the
- 7:30Blackhawks are fucking rewarded. It just dry. It drives me insane. It
- 7:34drives me insane. The injustice in this world, I know, it's it's
- 7:40the absolute worst. There really is no God. Well, we'll moving along
- 7:45year too and before again before we get into some flyers talk too. It's
- 7:49looking at the playoffs here and looking at the Stanley Cup just you know,
- 7:54this run here, I just I find it so hard to believe that the
- 7:57Bruins and you know, a Rangers to an extent, we're knocked out so
- 8:00early. You know, I'm watching playoff hockey and I'm like, I can't
- 8:03believe I'm not seeing certain teams, you know, playing for the Stanley Cup
- 8:07at this particular point here in mid May, I mean the Kraken. They've
- 8:11made some waves here in the postseason. And when I initially did my brackets,
- 8:15Kelly, I I predicted my prediction was a Bruins and Oilers Stanley Cup
- 8:20final. I'm wondering, what were your predictions and how have they worked out
- 8:24thus far. You'll be shocked to learn, Jeff, that my bracket is
- 8:28totally musted after the first round. Yeah, I had. I had the
- 8:33Oilers and the Maple Leafs okay, and the Stanley Cup final. Yeah.
- 8:37Um. I really thought this was going to be the year that the Leafs
- 8:41could get out of their own way and win. They did win one series,
- 8:46so you know, good for them, um, But I certainly did
- 8:52not expect. I didn't expect the Panthers to get out of the first round
- 8:56exactly the beating them the Bruins, but I did not think that way happen.
- 9:00Um, so they you know, they kind of killed my bracket really
- 9:03quick. I had. I did have the Hurricanes advancing, I had the
- 9:09Devil's advancing, had the Kraken going out in the first round. I thought
- 9:13for sure the Avalanche would take care of them, even with all of the
- 9:16injuries that they had. Um, but yeah, it was a pretty it
- 9:20was a pretty wild first round. Um. I think right now the only
- 9:24team that I have left surviving on my bracket is the Golden Knights. Okay,
- 9:28Um, I got everything every single other series wrong doing great over here.
- 9:35But I mean it was a pretty wild first round, which you know,
- 9:37makes it more fun, that's gonna say. It makes it more interesting
- 9:39here. Yeah, yeah, but it's it's been a very interesting playoffs,
- 9:45that's for sure. It's it's Uh, the officiating has been curious, yes,
- 9:50Um, you know, you never you never want to as a fan
- 9:54of the sport or your particular team to you know, blame officiating for losses
- 10:00or wins or whatever. But it has been I think especially bad this season.
- 10:05The NHLs insistence on completely changing the rules of the sport for the playoffs
- 10:13is I think really something they need to take a look at, because it's
- 10:16it's not it's not good game Like it's not it's not a good idea to
- 10:22make it okay for bad teams to get past good teams by simply injuring their
- 10:31best players like that, And that seems to be and I mean like to
- 10:35be fair. Knowing that it's going to be allowed, you can see why,
- 10:39you know, the team would go at Yeah, exactly. Like if
- 10:41I'm the Islanders and I know I'm simply not as talented as my opponent,
- 10:46why wouldn't I try to take out their best players? I know they're not
- 10:48going to penel. I mean because now it's the playoffs and we put the
- 10:50whistles away, Like it's just it's a very weird way to go about officiating
- 10:56your playoffs. You would think that you would want the best players to advance
- 11:01because they're you know, fun to watch, right. Yeah, it's it's
- 11:05been, it's been all their playoffs, but it's been fun. Yeah,
- 11:09at least we have that for sure. Okay again, folks, talking to
- 11:11Kelly Hankle from Broadstreet Hockey dot Com and the BSh Radio podcast. Follow on
- 11:16Twitter at hanks Hi n X. She is a great, great follow and
- 11:20all right, let's talk about the Flyers here this upcoming offseason. Danny bre
- 11:24Air is officially the general manager of the Philadelphia Flyers Keith Jones. He won
- 11:30the president's job over a slew of other names that were being considered so it's
- 11:35the start of a new era here, and the one thing that Jones has,
- 11:41from my understanding here is some people skills, and I think that's something
- 11:45that's been sorely lacking the Flyers front office for many years. I think it's
- 11:48a great thing for this organization. Plus Jones is going to have more power
- 11:54and authority over the GM position as well. Little concerned about that into an
- 12:00stent, but overall, I really like these new hires as this new front
- 12:05office era has begun. It gives me hope. We talked about hope earlier,
- 12:09but I wanted to see what you liked about these hires and what you
- 12:13disliked and what you don't like about these official hires. Now it really is
- 12:18a new direction here, Kelly, for this organization at the end of the
- 12:22day, and I think that it's something that's welcoming for US Flyers fans who
- 12:28have been god following this team in the debacles year after year for so long.
- 12:33Personally, I like it, and maybe again it's giving me hope.
- 12:35But where what do you like and what do you not like about these hires?
- 12:39Yeah, So this has been an interesting set of circumstances for me,
- 12:45just because I say all the time that, like, as Flyers fans in
- 12:48particular, a lot of people have a hard time like holding two thoughts at
- 12:52the same time in their head, like everything has to be black or white,
- 12:54one thing or the other, right, right. This is tough for
- 12:56me because I genuinely love Keith Jones. I have met him several times.
- 13:03He's like an extremely nice man. He's funny, he's engaging. Like you
- 13:09said, he's just one of these people that I feel like it's impossible not
- 13:13to like, which, as you said, is probably one of the reasons
- 13:16that the Flyers gave him this job. So it's hard to ship on the
- 13:20hire of a guy like Keith Jones because you're like, you want him to
- 13:24do well, you want him to succeed, all of that kind of stuff.
- 13:26Now that said, for me, I'm having a hard time seeing this
- 13:33as the start of something new with the Philadelphia Flyers because once again, like
- 13:41they kind of gave the impression that there was going to be this search for
- 13:46the most qualified president of hockey operations, there was going to be a search
- 13:52for general manager. Wasn't just going to be handed to Danny Breer. There
- 13:54was like all of this implication that we were going to try something new.
- 13:58And at the end of the day they went down the hall and we're like,
- 14:03hey, Jonesy, you want to be our president of hockey operations.
- 14:07It's like, yeah, sure, like you know what I mean. And
- 14:09it's not. And what's difficult is that I don't want it to seem like
- 14:13I'm being negative about the higher because I don't necessarily think it's going to go
- 14:20poorly. But I do wish like this was the perfect opportunity for the Flyers
- 14:26to go completely outside their normal behavior, completely outside their insular little fires bubble,
- 14:33and get somebody different and new, with a new set of ideas and
- 14:37a new set of standards, like and it would have been very easy for
- 14:41fans to be like, yes, here it is, we're doing something different.
- 14:46This guy is going to bring something new to the table. And maybe
- 14:48Jonesy will I don't know, but it's easy I think going into this to
- 14:54have a little bit in the back of your mind that like, this is
- 14:56just more of the same. This is what they always do. They always
- 15:01hire their buddies. Yea, And we see where it goes. Now,
- 15:05Like I said, I really hope this works. I do think that Danny
- 15:09Breer, you know, being a guy that played hockey in the modern era,
- 15:13being a small, fast, goal scoring kind of player rather than you
- 15:18know, a gooney Bullies type of player. Like, maybe his perspective on
- 15:22what it takes to build a good hockey team will not be the Flyer's perspective
- 15:26on what it takes to build a good hockey team that we've seen for the
- 15:28last fifty years, right, you know, Keith Jones, like you said,
- 15:33being likable and having a lot of connections and all that kind of stuff,
- 15:37maybe that will bide well for building relationships with other organizations and making trades
- 15:41and stuff. We just don't know, but at least these two guys are
- 15:48easy to like and easy to root for, so at least, going into
- 15:52it, we have that so that we can, you know, like you
- 15:56said, have a little bit of hope about what's going to happen. Yeah.
- 16:00The one thing that I have learned so much over the past ten years
- 16:03of doing this podcast and talking with individuals from around the sports world is this
- 16:08overriding theme that relationships really do matter in sports. Relationships not just with front
- 16:15office personnel with each other, but how they relate to players, how players
- 16:19relate to coaches, how assistant coaches relate to the front office. How it's
- 16:23all intertwined with each other in this web of Okay, my personality meshes with
- 16:30yours, and as a result, your personality is going to mesh with this
- 16:34one over here. And at the end of the day, if personalities mesh
- 16:41with each other, you're going to see a better product on the ice,
- 16:45on the court, on the field, whatever sport that it is. So
- 16:48that is my hope with regard to the Jones hires, because he does have
- 16:52an actual personality. He's not a wet mop. He has personality to be
- 16:57able to reach people, to be able to connect with people, and I
- 17:02think that is a key component, you know, aside from like that,
- 17:06I think that's why I'm like making myself believe that this is gonna work,
- 17:08because you know, even though it is one of the good old boys being
- 17:12hired, you know, from right in the building, I like, I'm
- 17:15thinking to myself and maybe I'm trying to believe it here Kelly, is that
- 17:19because he is that people person that he's going to be able to that he's
- 17:23going to just be able to relate more and connect more with people, and
- 17:26when you have those connections from a human to human perspective, good things usually
- 17:32do happen, and not just in sports, like in the world in general.
- 17:34So like that's yeah, that's that's by thought process behind the hire and
- 17:38why I do have the hope. Yeah, I mean I totally agree with
- 17:44you, and I am hopeful and I don't dislike these hires. I do
- 17:48think though that and I'm sure that that Jonesy understands this that the leash is
- 17:53going to be very short with this fan base. Like right now, we're
- 17:56all like, yeah, we love Keith Jones, but I think we all
- 18:00know that, like if in two or three years this is still this bad,
- 18:03like we're not the like Keith Jones anymore, exactly, what's going to
- 18:06suck. Yeah, And so I really do think that at the end of
- 18:08the day, it's the results that are going to make people buy into this
- 18:14hockey team again. And so hopefully these guys can deliver. I mean,
- 18:18we have no reason yet to believe that they can't, right, So exactly,
- 18:21well, there's a lot of work to be done this offseason to really
- 18:23rebuild this Philadelphia Flyers team, and I wanted to get into some of the
- 18:29nuts and bolts of that here, Like, what's the first thing that Keith
- 18:32Jones and Danny Brier are gonna need to do this offseason? Is it?
- 18:34I mean, is it finding a trade partner for Kevin Hayes and his over
- 18:38seven million dollars per year contract or is it just finding out and getting more
- 18:42answers about Sean Couturier cam Atkinson at this point? What are your thoughts on
- 18:47how this offseason process really really needs to start for this organization, if the
- 18:52fan base, you know, if they want the fan base to buy into
- 18:56this, what are your thoughts? Yeah, so we don't We don't really
- 19:00know what they're going to do because we don't really have any basis, Like
- 19:04neither of these guys have done this job before, so there's no really history
- 19:08to call on. But um, what I would like to see, and
- 19:14you know you mentioned it with the Kevin Hayes thing, I would like to
- 19:18see this summer for Danny Brier being more about subtraction than addition. Okay,
- 19:22um, getting rid of whatever bad contracts he can, getting rid of any
- 19:30players that may whose time. I mean, I hate this phrase because how
- 19:33do people use it all the time, but whose timelines might not fit with
- 19:38when the Flyers are going to be good again. Yeah, well, JBR,
- 19:44I'm guessing is just going to be gone. I can't imagine they're going
- 19:47to resign it, right, But if, like, you know, if
- 19:48one of the first things Danny Breer does is resign JBR to any kind of
- 19:52contract, I think we're all going to be We'll probably have some questions.
- 19:56Um My Flyer's fandom is so bruised that I actually thought that that could be
- 20:00actually be a possibility. I have joked several times, but I could see
- 20:04them like giving him like a one year that minimum contract. And I really
- 20:10hope they don't say, you know, like for example, like I don't
- 20:14think they're going to do something like trade Travis Connecting because they're so high on
- 20:18him, But like he would be a guy that if you are being honest
- 20:22with yourself and saying, Okay, this team isn't going to be good for
- 20:23three years, you could get you could get some real nised value Travis Connecting
- 20:29right now, You get some nice future, some picks, that kind of
- 20:32stuff. If Danny Brier went that route this summer where it was just about
- 20:37afloating what valuable assets you can, offloading what bad contracts you can, and
- 20:45just collecting as many future assets as you can. Sort of like and if
- 20:49people are going to hate this, but like sort of like what ron Hexstall
- 20:53that absolutely first got here, because here's the thing, Like ron Hexstall's base
- 21:00idea was a good one. He started the ross as well. Yes,
- 21:03yeah, we had to get out of bad contracts. We had to get
- 21:07more picks because we didn't have any, Like Danny Breer is kind of in
- 21:11the same exact place. Yes, hopefully you know where Ron Hextall found short
- 21:17fell short was executing that process long term, Like he didn't seem to have
- 21:22an endgame that he knew how to figure out, because you know, he
- 21:26did a couple of years of the dumping contracts collecting picks and that's good.
- 21:30Um, but then you know his tracting turns out wasn't very good. Um.
- 21:34His you know, NHL talent evaluation turns out wasn't very good. So
- 21:38if we have Brier kind of start that process again, but do it well,
- 21:45that wouldn't be a bad thing for us. Um So so yeah,
- 21:48I wouldn't expect him to be bringing in any talent this summer um, because
- 21:55what's what's the points? Yeah, yeah, we spending assets to get talents.
- 21:59YEA. Hopefully he'll just be dumping some stuff and hopefully he's able to
- 22:02do that because I don't think it's going to be easy for him, because
- 22:06I think the entire league knows that the Flyers are not negotiating from a point
- 22:10of strength exactly just about anything. Yeah, So you know, hopefully he'll
- 22:14do what he can and hopefully we will see some some subtractions that can be
- 22:19filled with some kids from the phantoms, because honestly, it wouldn't be a
- 22:23bad thing for the Flyers to use next year as another talent evaluation. Let's
- 22:30see what we got in the system. Yep, doesn't matter if we're bad
- 22:33or good tiny years, because you know they're not going to be good,
- 22:36so you might as well just lean into it and see what you can get.
- 22:38Absolutely, I completely agree with you, and we know that two and
- 22:44twenty four seasons going to be a brutal one anyway. We know that it's
- 22:45going to be, and it should be. They're in like you said,
- 22:48they are in no position of strength here to do much of anything. So
- 22:52let's offload what needs to be offload, and you wander to really make this
- 22:56a true rebuild. And I'm moving along, Kelly. I personally, I
- 23:00think the organization needs to keep Carter Hart. He's one of those guys you're
- 23:04talking about Travis Connecty too. I think with regard to Carter Hart, and
- 23:07you may disagree with me, that they do need to keep him. And
- 23:11the last time I had your co host on BSh Radio, Bill Matts,
- 23:15he was on the pod. We were talking about the possibilities of trading Carter
- 23:18Heart, you know, given the instability over so many years at the goalie
- 23:22position and how young Carter Heart is. I mean, I remember when we
- 23:26started this podcast ten years ago, We're talking about Brizz Golam for God's sakes,
- 23:30you know, like the days of Briz Jesus, and yes, Steve
- 23:33Mason was in there for a while, but in Steve Mason, Steve Mason.
- 23:38But at the end of the day, I think they need to keep
- 23:41Carter Heart for the long term. I wanted to get your thoughts on that
- 23:45because there's just so much talk with him Flyer's Nation that you know what,
- 23:47Yeah, you know, Carter Hart may need to be a trade ship at
- 23:49some point during this rebuild. Here at this point in time in twenty thirteen,
- 23:55twenty twenty three, I mean, I want to see them keep him.
- 23:57What are your thoughts here? You know, it is hard to as
- 24:03a Flyers fan consider the possibility of giving up, you know, the first
- 24:07reliably good goaltender that you've had pretty much ever. I can't remember um,
- 24:18but you know, really doing if I know, if we're really doing a
- 24:22rebuild though, if we're really doing it, treating him makes sense because the
- 24:27thing is right now, you could probably get some pretty nice assets, especially
- 24:33as we get out of the playoffs. You have a team, you have
- 24:36a team like the Oilers for example, who kind of you know, their
- 24:41goalie wasn't bad in the playoffs, but he definitely didn't seal them any games.
- 24:45And when you have teams that are or even even the Maple Leafs,
- 24:48you know, have some goalie issues they had, you know, injuries these
- 24:52playoffs that you know, we're a little sketch. But when you have teams
- 24:56that are like super close, but if they had a lights out goalie like
- 25:02that would really get them to the next place. So you could probably get
- 25:04some value out of those teams and the Flyers aren't without goalie prospects like Erson
- 25:12could be good. We don't know. I'm not going to pretend that,
- 25:15you know, the little bit that we've seen of him in the NHL is
- 25:17enough to know, right, But I mean goalies in general are like,
- 25:21who the hell knows a cart Hard is going to be good in two years?
- 25:23Who knows? Goalies don't make any sense, Like, you know,
- 25:27you have Carrie Price, who is one of the best goalies ever, and
- 25:30they give him a giant contract and all of a sudden he sucks like out
- 25:33of nowhere. Yeah, you know what I mean, Like, they don't
- 25:34make any sense. So even though we think of Carter Hard as like a
- 25:37guarantee and he you know, you know, logically he probably is a minimum
- 25:44a good goaltender for the length of his career, UM, I like to
- 25:48consistent real with him, Like that's it's the consistency, you know, it's
- 25:52really nice. Yeah. Yeah, But but if you're really doing it,
- 25:56Jeff, if you're really doing it training him make a lot of stuff?
- 26:00Will they I don't know, right, but but you know, yeah,
- 26:04I'm honestly at this point, there's not a single soul on this team that
- 26:10I think should be safe from being traded. Like, whatever we need to
- 26:11do to turn this around, it's got to happen. So if they can
- 26:17get like, let's say on draft day, you can get like a first
- 26:21in two seconds or something for Carter Heart. And right now the Fires have
- 26:25one pick in the toxic Yeah, if you can, if you can do
- 26:29that, maybe that's something you do. You know what I mean, because
- 26:30it's it's it's more about what are we going to have in three years and
- 26:37and Carter Heart couldn't be good for years or he could not be She's making
- 26:41sense, folks, She's making sense. It's why we bring her on the
- 26:45pot why I'm gonna be crying afterward, but that's why we bring her on,
- 26:49folks. Addings on Twitter and Broadstreet Hockey dot Com. Gone over there
- 26:56and check out all the great work they're doing. And just to close us
- 27:00out here while we have a few more minutes here. I know that we
- 27:03say this every year, but the upcoming NHL Draft, and it's gonna be
- 27:07June twenty eighth, June twenty ninth, it's gonna be huge for this Flyers
- 27:10team an organization in terms of this rebuild. Right now, the team has
- 27:12nine picks. I know, Lennon and I are we're going to be getting
- 27:15into some prospects on this show for our listeners, just to let you know
- 27:19down the road, we're certainly going to be talking about some of these prospects.
- 27:22What do us fans, Kelly need this draft to look like from an
- 27:27overall picture for the future of the team and organization, to like make us
- 27:33believe that we're heading in the right direction here. What are your thoughts,
- 27:36Well, the Flyers need to take the right player when they pick. It's
- 27:40going to be I mean, it's just going to be a matter of them
- 27:44taking the best of what's left at that point, I think, which is
- 27:47fine. There is like a small chance that Mitchkoff could fall to them,
- 27:52just because people are very scared that he'll never come over. I think.
- 27:56I think your co host Charlie O'Connor on the wrote some think about that on
- 28:00The Athletic recently too. Yeah he did. Yeah, um, so,
- 28:03like you know, if he does fall, maybe you take a big chance
- 28:08because he is essentially a vechkan Um, which is why, like if he
- 28:15falls to the Capitals, the Capitals will probably take him, um, just
- 28:18because like they could probably get him to come over because they got UM.
- 28:23But it's mostly about I think not scrolling it up really more than anything else.
- 28:32Like there's a kid that's a big, right handed defenseman, UM who
- 28:37actually I think just got hurt, which I don't want to say the good
- 28:40thing, but it may have saved the Flyers from himself just because like this
- 28:44draft. Um, We've got a piece on it on our site right now
- 28:48about how this draft in particular is so deep on talented forwards that taking a
- 28:55defenseman would just not be the best idea. And I would hate Theys to
- 29:00fall into the trap of like, oh, big, big, big boy,
- 29:04right handed defenseman, like like, yeah, that's not what we need,
- 29:07you know what I mean, Like we don't really don't. UM.
- 29:11So I'm just hoping they don't screw it up. And I'm kind of hoping
- 29:14that maybe Brier can work a little magic and get us some more picks,
- 29:18like a couple of second rounders would be nice. We don't have any.
- 29:22Um. That's kind of my biggest hope is that we're able to add some
- 29:27more higher picks than we have, just because we need as much talent as
- 29:33possible, So more picks equals better. So if we can dump some players
- 29:37for picks at the draft or ahead of the draft, that'll be very good
- 29:42for us going forward. But but yeah, I they're going to get a
- 29:48good player, I think, as long as they don't screw it up.
- 29:51So alright. More and also, folks, more picks better for a rebuild.
- 29:56The more picks you have, the better for a rebuild, for sure.
