- 0:02Speaker 1: All right, you guys, we are in the weeds. We
- 0:09Speaker 1: welcome you back live here in Milwaukee as we get
- 0:12Speaker 1: ready for game one of the 2026 World Series. We're
- 0:16Speaker 1: getting ready to start our second hour. Corey Knabel, brewer,
- 0:20Speaker 1: of course, was here, what, four or five years? Five,
- 0:22Speaker 1: six years, Corey?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Six years, sure was, yeah.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Kevin Pillar, 13-year big leaguer outfielder primarily for the Toronto
- 0:29Speaker 1: Blue Jays. I am Alana Rizzo. Good to be with
- 0:31Speaker 1: you guys. Let's finish what we were chatting about earlier
- 0:34Speaker 1: in terms of breaking down the position by position. We
- 0:38Speaker 1: already kind of went through the starting staff, right? Or
- 0:40Speaker 1: at least the starting pitchers for game one. We talked
- 0:43Speaker 1: exclusively about Jacob Mizorowski. We talked about Nick Martinez. Let's
- 0:47Speaker 1: go position by position. All right, so I'm going to
- 0:49Speaker 1: start with... Let's just start with catching, all right? So, KP,
- 0:54Speaker 1: we will start with you. Who has the advantage in
- 0:58Speaker 1: terms of the catching position between the two clubs?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm looking at all the positions.
- 1:03Speaker 3: I think this is probably one of the easier positions
- 1:06Speaker 3: to choose from. I think Liam Hicks is a great catcher.
- 1:10Speaker 3: I think he's been a great addition for the Rays
- 1:14Speaker 3: coming over from Miami. But, you know, for everything– that
- 1:17Speaker 3: Contreras does not only offensively for that pitching staff. We
- 1:21Speaker 3: heard Pat Murphy talk about him being a pit bull
- 1:23Speaker 3: and need to be put in the cage. So, obviously,
- 1:25Speaker 3: he's this team's emotional leader as well. So, pretty easy
- 1:28Speaker 3: choice for me.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Brewers have the advantage there. I mean, I'll keep the hat, too.
- 1:32Speaker 4: I've got to take– I mean, yeah, exactly what KP said.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Hicks has been– I mean, he's been incredible, what he's
- 1:38Speaker 4: been doing for the race so far this year ever
- 1:40Speaker 4: since they got him. But, yeah, it's tough to not
- 1:42Speaker 4: go with Wild Bill, especially from all the pitchers' standpoints, too. Obviously,
- 1:47Speaker 4: he's a great hitting catcher, and what he's done so
- 1:49Speaker 4: far in this postseason, what he did in the NLCS, too,
- 1:52Speaker 4: was incredible, huge for the guys, but he doesn't just
- 1:55Speaker 4: take his at-bats to the dish. I mean, he's going
- 2:00Speaker 4: behind the plate, and he's got full focus. You see
- 2:01Speaker 4: him a couple times with the Americans and the Latins.
- 2:04Speaker 4: I mean, look, he doesn't like that pitch that Ashley
- 2:07Speaker 4: just threw.
- 2:08Speaker 2: He lets them know.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I mean, he'll give those fastballs right back to them
- 2:12Speaker 4: to let them know, hey, stop trying to aim. Throw
- 2:15Speaker 4: this pitch, and I think that's huge for the pitchers
- 2:17Speaker 4: from what he's doing. And, yeah, obviously, you look at
- 2:19Speaker 4: his numbers from what he's done in the postseason, a.
- 2:21Speaker 4: 367 average. He's one of the– I think that's top, right?
- 2:24Speaker 4: That's got to be leading the league or leading the
- 2:26Speaker 4: team so far in the postseason.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Give me the hats.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Go ahead.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I don't know what we're doing.
- 2:31Speaker 1: All right. Sorry about that.
- 2:32Speaker 6: All right.
- 2:33Speaker 1: We're going around the diamond. First, before we get into that,
- 2:37Speaker 1: catching Contreras has been fantastic. Eight playoff games, you guys
- 2:40Speaker 1: posting a 1-1-5-7 OPS with three home runs. Mid-season acquisition,
- 2:46Speaker 1: Liam Hicks. I know you guys like him. 129 OPS
- 2:49Speaker 1: plus in 41 games for Tampa Bay. That is awesome.
- 2:52Speaker 4: All right.
- 2:52Speaker 1: First base. Let's go. Corey, who has the advantage in
- 2:57Speaker 1: terms of the first base spot?
- 2:59Speaker 4: Well, I mean, that's a tough one, too. Obviously, Bowers,
- 3:04Speaker 4: MVP of the NLCS. I've loved watching Bowers all year.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I've loved watching what he has done hitting-wise. I mean,
- 3:12Speaker 4: he's had some great at-bats, but It's tough to also
- 3:17Speaker 4: not go with Aranda here. I mean, what he has
- 3:20Speaker 4: done for the team as well is humongous. All postseason,
- 3:26Speaker 4: these guys are fantastic. And I'm still going to choose, obviously.
- 3:30Speaker 2: My Brewers here. I got to go Bowers 100%.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a bit shocked to find out a
- 3:37Speaker 3: couple days ago that Jake Bowers, I believe, was eighth
- 3:40Speaker 3: entire baseball and on base percentage.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Which is insane.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you think about– Typically, the guys that
- 3:46Speaker 3: get on base are typically your super superstars that pitchers
- 3:49Speaker 3: are just so afraid to throw strikes to that they
- 3:51Speaker 3: walk at a high clip or your generational talents like
- 3:55Speaker 3: Juan Soto. But the fact that Jake Bowers was eighth
- 3:57Speaker 3: in the entire baseball and on base percentage, he's coming
- 4:01Speaker 3: off an NLCS MVP.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I love Jonathan Aranda as a player.
- 4:06Speaker 3: I mean, if you took out the postseason statistics, if
- 4:09Speaker 3: you just said, hey, who would I rather want on
- 4:11Speaker 3: my team?
- 4:11Speaker 2: I'd probably go in Jonathan Aranda.
- 4:13Speaker 3: But when you show me some of these numbers, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 3: the 864 versus the 676 OPS right now. You know,
- 4:22Speaker 3: the legs got to go up to Jake Bowers right now.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But if I'm starting a team, I'm probably taking Jonathan Branda.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I think he's one of the best pure hitters in baseball.
- 4:30Speaker 3: But coming off an MVP, the momentum he has right now,
- 4:34Speaker 3: and obviously the patience he has at the plate, I'm
- 4:36Speaker 3: going to go advantage Jake Bowers.
- 4:38Speaker 2: At first base.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Does it make it even more impressive, you guys– knowing
- 4:41Speaker 1: the fact that Jake Bowers was going to step away
- 4:44Speaker 1: from baseball entirely, Corey, he only came back because his
- 4:48Speaker 1: wife became pregnant. They were going to have a baby.
- 4:50Speaker 1: They're starting a family. And he's like, I kind of
- 4:53Speaker 1: need health insurance. So he came back to the game
- 4:56Speaker 1: that we all love. He ends up being the NLCS MVP.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Baseball is the weirdest game in the world. Does that
- 5:02Speaker 1: make what he's done even more impressive?
- 5:04Speaker 6: It is.
- 5:04Speaker 4: And I mean, I think we can both agree here that,
- 5:07Speaker 4: you know, the game of baseball is so mental. It's so,
- 5:10Speaker 4: it's so draining. Sometimes you start focusing on your bats.
- 5:14Speaker 4: You start focusing on your success, your, your failures. And
- 5:17Speaker 4: it's tough to not think about them. You know, it's
- 5:19Speaker 4: tough to just constantly stay neutral. And, and when you
- 5:21Speaker 4: get to that point.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Right, where it's just, all right, that's it. I'm I'm out.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I'm going to, I'm, I'm at peace with it. I'm
- 5:28Speaker 2: going to settle. And then now it's, well, now I
- 5:30Speaker 2: have to do this.
- 5:31Speaker 4: You know, it's, it's more of a, a family wellbeing thing.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:34Speaker 4: And you go in and, and now it's just, I,
- 5:38Speaker 4: I was already going to quit. So what, what, what
- 5:41Speaker 4: else now?
- 5:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I mean, I don't have anything else to think about.
- 5:44Speaker 4: And I go up there and I'm just going to
- 5:45Speaker 4: play baseball instead of thinking about it as a job,
- 5:49Speaker 4: which a lot of us do.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:50Speaker 4: And now he's just going in and he's playing baseball and, Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 3: If I could, if I could encapsulate that feeling of
- 5:58Speaker 3: freedom from the game and I experienced it on a
- 6:01Speaker 3: much different level when I got released from the White
- 6:03Speaker 3: Sox signed with the angels and I knew I was
- 6:06Speaker 3: kind of on my last chance.
- 6:07Speaker 2: And I said, you know what?
- 6:08Speaker 3: I don't care what happens. I got an opportunity to
- 6:11Speaker 3: play one last time. Throughout that season, I kind of
- 6:14Speaker 3: checked off a little– these boxes that I had unchecked
- 6:16Speaker 3: in my career. But I was arguably playing the best
- 6:19Speaker 3: baseball in my career because I wasn't thinking about a
- 6:21Speaker 3: contract next year. I wasn't thinking about getting a job
- 6:23Speaker 3: next year.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I was just free.
- 6:25Speaker 3: So if you could– and it's easier said than done
- 6:27Speaker 3: now that we're sitting here retired. I would tell every kid, yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 3: just play like you're free and you don't care. If
- 6:32Speaker 3: I can encapsulate that feeling and sell it to players–
- 6:36Speaker 3: I'd be very wealthy. And you can really only ever
- 6:38Speaker 3: really experience that when you go through something like Jake
- 6:41Speaker 3: Bauer did. When you are 100% certain, you know what?
- 6:43Speaker 3: I've given this game everything I had. I'm ready to
- 6:45Speaker 3: walk away. And then obviously family stuff comes up. And
- 6:49Speaker 3: the great thing about our game, even at the minor
- 6:51Speaker 3: league level, is we have great health insurance. And he
- 6:54Speaker 3: knew that that was the best thing for his family.
- 6:55Speaker 3: But when you get that perspective in life... to be
- 6:58Speaker 3: able to go, you know what? I'm not doing this
- 7:01Speaker 3: because it's my job. I'm doing this for the well-being
- 7:04Speaker 3: of my family, and I'm going to give it a
- 7:05Speaker 3: second go. The freedom he has playing right now, playing
- 7:09Speaker 3: with house money, is hard to bet against.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Beautiful thing. Browers has driven in more runs, six compared
- 7:14Speaker 1: to Aranda's five. They're pretty similar on a lot of things,
- 7:16Speaker 1: both really good options. Moving around the diamond to second base, guys,
- 7:20Speaker 1: who is your choice in terms of who's the second
- 7:24Speaker 1: baseman you want to build your team around? Corey, we'll
- 7:26Speaker 1: start with you.
- 7:28Speaker 4: I mean, if you're talking about hitting, obviously I'm going
- 7:30Speaker 4: to go Palacios here, especially what he's done in the postseason.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Terang's hitting.
- 7:35Speaker 4: It was fantastic in the regular season, and so far
- 7:38Speaker 4: in the postseason, we didn't really see too much in
- 7:41Speaker 4: the NLDS, and then he came back, I think, in
- 7:43Speaker 4: the NLCS with a huge improvement, right? A. 364, but
- 7:47Speaker 4: and yeah, overall defense, I mean, you got a platinum
- 7:50Speaker 4: glove winner over there with Terang, so it's tough to
- 7:52Speaker 4: not go with him to build your team around him,
- 7:55Speaker 4: but I mean, look, the guy is a hype man
- 7:58Speaker 4: right now, and I'm choosing Palacios on this in second base.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Are you on board with that?
- 8:03Speaker 2: No, I'm not.
- 8:04Speaker 3: And look, I'm kind of contradicting because I just went
- 8:08Speaker 3: with kind of recent bias-y of– you know, I think
- 8:11Speaker 3: Jonathan Aranda is a better hitter than Jake Bowers, but
- 8:15Speaker 3: what he did recently, but I mean, we're talking about
- 8:18Speaker 3: starting second baseman and probably arguably the best player on
- 8:21Speaker 3: team USA this year and vice terrain, you know, he had.
- 8:25Speaker 2: A great role baseball classic.
- 8:27Speaker 3: We're talking about one of the best defenders in baseball,
- 8:29Speaker 3: if not the best defender, we know he's the best
- 8:32Speaker 3: second baseman, but maybe the best defender regardless of position.
- 8:35Speaker 3: But I also like what he did recently. You know,
- 8:38Speaker 3: I think, Once again, baseball is a really weird game
- 8:41Speaker 3: where I kind of saw this interviewer where Bryce Terrain
- 8:44Speaker 3: was talking about toughest– pictures he has to face. And
- 8:47Speaker 3: one of them was Tarek Scooble. And then, you know,
- 8:49Speaker 3: he goes and hits the home run off of them.
- 8:51Speaker 3: So sometimes when you just have this ultimate, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 3: level of freedom where, Hey, you know, this guy on
- 8:56Speaker 3: the mound's a tough matchup.
- 8:57Speaker 2: He's probably better than me.
- 8:58Speaker 3: And you find some freedom in that, that big home
- 9:01Speaker 3: run you hit kind of, I think unlocked them a
- 9:03Speaker 3: little bit.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I mean, you guys certainly would know better than I
- 9:05Speaker 1: having played in this game. I couldn't even make contact,
- 9:07Speaker 1: get up on the infield, but is it, if you
- 9:09Speaker 1: walk up to the plate sometimes and you're like, Oh, well, great.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's Tarek Scooble. He's a Cy Young award winner a
- 9:13Speaker 1: billion times over.
- 9:15Speaker 2: F it.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I mean, I can relate to that more than maybe
- 9:18Speaker 3: him on the mound. But I think as a hitter,
- 9:21Speaker 3: I learned it later in my career.
- 9:23Speaker 1: If Aaron Judge walks in the box, you're like, F it.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'm going to throw this. I have the authority here.
- 9:30Speaker 1: It's my decision. You have to hit it.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I mean, you brought it up to that interview with Drang.
- 9:35Speaker 4: And I remember that because I thought the same thing.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Paul Goldschmidt, to me, was my– in my head, I
- 9:41Speaker 4: could never get him out. He got a hit almost
- 9:44Speaker 4: every time he came into the play. I mean, you
- 9:46Speaker 4: look at the numbers, I want to say he's hitting
- 9:48Speaker 4: like 240 off me. It's not that much, but I've
- 9:50Speaker 4: just faced him so much, and I always thought this
- 9:53Speaker 4: was my toughest hitter to ever face. I've had plenty
- 9:55Speaker 4: of guys that are hitting 300, 400 off me. But
- 9:58Speaker 4: in my mind, that's it. And, yeah, I mean who
- 10:00Speaker 4: knows what it is with terrain and Scoogle, but.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Exactly. It's, ah, screw it.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I'm probably going to strike that anyway.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Yeah, sometimes you have to understand that the guy you're
- 10:09Speaker 3: facing is also pretty damn good.
- 10:11Speaker 2: At what he does, if not maybe the best in
- 10:13Speaker 2: the game.
- 10:14Speaker 3: And sometimes you can trick yourself into believing like, hey,
- 10:17Speaker 3: I'm really not supposed to, especially left on left terrain
- 10:19Speaker 3: versus no matter how good terrain is, facing a guy
- 10:23Speaker 3: who's got back-to-back Cy Young, who throws him a funky
- 10:26Speaker 3: angle left on left.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Sometimes you just have to walk up and be like,
- 10:28Speaker 2: you know what? He's supposed to get me out.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Everyone in the stadium probably knows I'm going to get out.
- 10:32Speaker 3: And then there's this sense of freedom, much like Jake
- 10:34Speaker 3: Bowers probably experienced in his career. So I do think
- 10:37Speaker 3: that one at bat unlocked him a little bit. And
- 10:39Speaker 3: we talked about him kind of hitting, you know, 360,
- 10:42Speaker 3: 370 for the rest of that series.
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think he's coming in hot.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 3: You know, he's the team on any given day he
- 10:50Speaker 3: can be their very best player. So I'm going to
- 10:52Speaker 3: go Terang for second base.
- 10:53Speaker 6: All right.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I love that we're disagreeing here. Richie Palacios, Bryce Terang.
- 10:57Speaker 2: We love it.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Shortstop, which I think is the hardest defensive position. Obviously,
- 11:01Speaker 1: everybody comes up as a shortstop, right? You talk to
- 11:02Speaker 1: anybody in the Dominican, I came up as a shortstop.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Everyone's a shortstop. Not many people can have success at
- 11:08Speaker 1: the shortstop position at the big league level. So if
- 11:12Speaker 1: you're looking at the shortstops, guys, for you, is it
- 11:15Speaker 1: Pratt or is it Walsh?
- 11:17Speaker 2: Uh, I gotta go Pratt here too.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Um, I mean, walls has been obviously phenomenal over the
- 11:23Speaker 4: shortstop and shortstop.
- 11:25Speaker 2: It's your captain position, right?
- 11:26Speaker 4: When you're looking at, when you're looking at the infield,
- 11:29Speaker 4: obviously you've got terrain over there, kind of the captain position,
- 11:32Speaker 4: but I mean, Cooper Pratt has come up and he,
- 11:35Speaker 4: he has done fantastic in, uh, in the post season, man.
- 11:40Speaker 4: And what he has done all regular season, uh, he's
- 11:44Speaker 4: been great over defensively. He's had a couple errors so
- 11:48Speaker 4: far in the postseason, but I'm not worried about it.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I mean, obviously he's young. He's got a lot going
- 11:53Speaker 4: on in his mind, but his hitting right now, he's
- 11:55Speaker 4: come alive hitting 310 so far in the postseason. This is,
- 12:00Speaker 4: I'm going Pratt here.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a tough one for me.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I think they're just both so young and kind of
- 12:06Speaker 3: inexperienced and ideally in a situation like this, Regardless of
- 12:11Speaker 3: what you get offensively, it's a bonus. You really want
- 12:13Speaker 3: the more sure-handed shortstop in this scenario. And I know
- 12:17Speaker 3: Cooper Pratt made a couple.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Errors in the previous series. Love what he's doing offensively.
- 12:23Speaker 2: I love Walls' speed.
- 12:27Speaker 3: The difficulty of him getting on base is a challenge
- 12:30Speaker 3: for him sometimes, but he is a little bit of
- 12:32Speaker 3: a game-changer. He can disrupt the game when he's able
- 12:35Speaker 3: to get on base offensively. But I got to go
- 12:38Speaker 3: Cooper Pratt here, too. Just, you know, the gap offensively
- 12:41Speaker 3: right now is so large. And even though it's a
- 12:43Speaker 3: small sample size. But yeah, typically you would go with
- 12:48Speaker 3: the more sure handed shortstop. I think both of these
- 12:51Speaker 3: guys are really good at their position.
- 12:52Speaker 1: So when I think shortstop, obviously, I think what offensive
- 12:55Speaker 1: production can they give you, right? That's kind of a
- 12:58Speaker 1: measuring stick for that position. But you bring up a
- 13:00Speaker 1: good point in terms of speed with these two teams
- 13:03Speaker 1: that are so similar in the way that they go
- 13:05Speaker 1: about their business. They know how to run the bases.
- 13:08Speaker 1: They move a guy over. They'll use the entire field.
- 13:10Speaker 1: They'll go opposite field. Yes, they can hit home runs,
- 13:12Speaker 1: but that's not the majority of their DNA. How much
- 13:16Speaker 1: does that speed, if at all, change your position on
- 13:21Speaker 1: who perhaps is more valuable?
- 13:23Speaker 4: And that's I love that you brought that up because, yeah,
- 13:25Speaker 4: I mean, Cooper is also fast, right? They're both they're
- 13:28Speaker 4: both quick. Almost a majority of players on both teams
- 13:32Speaker 4: are speed. We're going to see so many stolen bases,
- 13:34Speaker 4: so many.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I mean. Possibly infield hits, too, right? With this team.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Great defense. But, yeah, I mean, I still agree.
- 13:42Speaker 4: I think Pratt, obviously, not as fast as Walls. But still,
- 13:47Speaker 4: you're talking speed. You've got probably two or three of
- 13:50Speaker 4: the fastest players in the league on these two teams
- 13:54Speaker 4: with David Hamilton over there, too.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So, this is.
- 13:58Speaker 4: I still got to stick with Pratt. But, yeah, I
- 14:00Speaker 4: love these arguments with these two teams.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, speed does not slump. Third base. This is a
- 14:05Speaker 1: tough one, I think, right? Junior Caminero, David Hamilton, Joey Ortiz. Obviously,
- 14:10Speaker 1: a little bit of a platoon situation here with Milwaukee
- 14:13Speaker 1: with their third base spot. The hot corner, who are
- 14:15Speaker 1: you taking?
- 14:17Speaker 2: I'm going Caminero. Yeah. I take Caminero here. Yeah, I mean,
- 14:21Speaker 2: he's hitting. I mean, you look at that.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Third base, all three of those guys are playing great defense. Obviously,
- 14:27Speaker 4: I prefer Joey O when you're talking defense. What he's
- 14:30Speaker 4: done for making that switch from shortstop to third this year,
- 14:33Speaker 4: I mean, it was night and day difference. It's like
- 14:37Speaker 4: he belonged over at third base. And, yeah, his hitting
- 14:40Speaker 4: started coming up. But what Cameron Arrow has done, I mean,
- 14:43Speaker 4: this postseason, this season, for the raise for the whole
- 14:47Speaker 4: city of Tampa, I mean, Cameron Arrow is– He's a
- 14:50Speaker 4: special human being over there.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, it should be an easy decision, but
- 14:53Speaker 3: you look at what David Hamilton did, and he was
- 14:56Speaker 3: arguably the Brewers' best player, and the short sample size
- 14:59Speaker 3: he played not only hit home runs, stealing bases.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Getting bunts down, you know, but.
- 15:04Speaker 3: There's certain guys that you just can't bet against. Caminero
- 15:09Speaker 3: is one of our game's biggest stars. I don't care
- 15:11Speaker 3: if he came into this series hitless in the postseason.
- 15:14Speaker 3: His talent is just so much greater than anyone he's
- 15:16Speaker 3: going up against that it would be crazy not to
- 15:19Speaker 3: take it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And some guys just wait for the bright lights, right?
- 15:21Speaker 1: Sometimes they kind of sleep their way. Not to say
- 15:24Speaker 1: that Caminero was. I'm not trying to say that. But
- 15:26Speaker 1: some guys just wait until... It's the bright lights in
- 15:29Speaker 1: the big city. There's Kike Hernandez is of the world.
- 15:32Speaker 1: I don't think, I don't care. It's over the regular season.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I want him. You feel like he's a sleeping giant.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Watch out. Not that he.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Didn't wake up, but yeah, he's a scary, he's a
- 15:42Speaker 3: scary individual.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I mean, Bill, Mike said earlier about Jackson, like so
- 15:46Speaker 4: far this post season, it's been a little iffy, but
- 15:49Speaker 4: look at what he did. I mean, game, what was it?
- 15:50Speaker 4: Game two of the NLDS against the Padres.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah. That, Big moment. Bases loaded.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Don't push the.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Bear because it's coming. Exactly. They're coming.
- 15:58Speaker 4: All right.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Quick hitters here. Now down to your spot, the outfield.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Right fielder.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Right fielder. Man, it's a toss-up.
- 16:09Speaker 3: You know, South Relic, I think, tremendous defensively out there.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Plays the game the right way. Does everything pretty much
- 16:18Speaker 3: right on the baseball field.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And then Mesa. Junior is just kind of a freak
- 16:24Speaker 2: athlete too, man.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Like, you know, numbers wise, it's probably a lot more
- 16:31Speaker 3: similar than you would imagine. But when I'm just thinking
- 16:33Speaker 3: about just pure talent and the ability to maybe change.
- 16:36Speaker 2: The swing or the game with one swing, it'd be hard.
- 16:40Speaker 1: To, does it matter based on park?
- 16:43Speaker 3: No, I think there's certain talent to levels. I think
- 16:46Speaker 3: there's certain swing profiles and strength and bat speed where
- 16:50Speaker 3: ballpark doesn't matter for either for him. Yeah, I think
- 16:54Speaker 3: he's going to go out wherever it goes out. You know,
- 16:57Speaker 3: over the course of 162, I'm probably taking the more
- 17:00Speaker 3: fundamentally sound South.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Really, but I think Mason Jr. is just talent screens.
- 17:07Speaker 3: He could change the series with one swing on that.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Fair enough.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I agree.
- 17:11Speaker 4: I think both are evenly matched and Obviously, you look
- 17:14Speaker 4: at right field, too. They're going to platoon a little
- 17:16Speaker 4: bit with Luis Lara. He'll get in there and also
- 17:19Speaker 4: a great young ballplayer. But, yeah, when you're looking at
- 17:22Speaker 4: those two guys, Sal and Mesa, it's tough, right? I mean,
- 17:26Speaker 4: I've watched Sal all year, and I love his motto
- 17:29Speaker 4: that he's constantly yelling in the dugout. It's just drag him,
- 17:32Speaker 4: you know, drag him down. Keep dragging down the pitchers.
- 17:35Speaker 4: I mean, he's a great outfielder. They both are quick
- 17:39Speaker 4: as well. What, two– both two stolen bases between them
- 17:43Speaker 4: so far this postseason? And, I mean, yeah, what Sal
- 17:46Speaker 4: has done coming back from his IL stint was, look,
- 17:50Speaker 4: he just– he's got to be on the roster. We've
- 17:52Speaker 4: got to have this guy as our hype guy. He's
- 17:54Speaker 4: keeping everybody– keep great vibes, keeping everybody energized, which is
- 17:59Speaker 4: exactly what he's done. So I'm going to go Sal here.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Maybe these are both guys we were talking about kind
- 18:03Speaker 1: of poking the bear, waking up that monster. Frelick 0
- 18:05Speaker 1: for 6 in the NLCS. Victor Meza Jr. just hit.
- 18:09Speaker 1: 091 in the ALCS in terms of six games. So
- 18:12Speaker 1: perhaps either one of those guys or both get going.
- 18:15Speaker 1: All right, left field.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Man, we're talking about just two kind of different profiles
- 18:22Speaker 3: of players right now. Like Chandler Simpson is arguably one
- 18:25Speaker 3: of them. I mean, both of these guys are, could
- 18:27Speaker 3: be some of the most fun guys and entertaining guys
- 18:30Speaker 3: to watch.
- 18:30Speaker 1: For different, that he came out of the wound-stealing basis.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:36Speaker 4: And he can play off defense.
- 18:39Speaker 3: And he's exactly what, you know, a pitcher like him
- 18:43Speaker 3: or a pitcher fears the most is this guy coming up.
- 18:46Speaker 3: You would think a lot of times these pitchers fear
- 18:48Speaker 3: guys that can bop them out of the ballpark, but
- 18:50Speaker 3: it's these guys that hit a ball off the end
- 18:52Speaker 3: of the bat and beat it, but then they know
- 18:54Speaker 3: they have to hold.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Them at first, second, third. They're constantly changing their timing
- 18:58Speaker 2: and rhythm and stuff.
- 19:00Speaker 3: He is an absolute game changer when he comes to
- 19:02Speaker 3: home plate because of his speed. He puts everyone on
- 19:05Speaker 3: defense on their heels because he's so damn fast.
- 19:07Speaker 2: When he gets on, he's a disruptor. But Jack's a chariot, man.
- 19:11Speaker 3: This guy could be the face of baseball. He's one
- 19:16Speaker 3: of those guys, again, he could be a sleeping giant.
- 19:19Speaker 3: His talent is just so much greater than Chandler Simpson's.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I don't care what the numbers say. Everything I just
- 19:24Speaker 2: talked about.
- 19:25Speaker 5: His ceiling.
- 19:25Speaker 2: He has the heat.
- 19:29Speaker 3: More than anyone, maybe besides Caminero has the greatest chance
- 19:32Speaker 3: of being from any offensive player.
- 19:35Speaker 2: That's how great his talent is. So I'd have to
- 19:37Speaker 2: go Jackson. I mean, I agree. I love it too,
- 19:40Speaker 2: because exactly.
- 19:41Speaker 4: He is, he is the giant here, but I mean,
- 19:45Speaker 4: you said it also look what, Simpson does is exactly what, like,
- 19:48Speaker 4: Billy Hamilton and, you know, Quentin Barry would.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Do to me.
- 19:52Speaker 4: You get on the bases, and now I got to
- 19:54Speaker 4: think about you over at first base. And that's what
- 19:56Speaker 4: Simpson does. I think he's disrupting the game that way.
- 19:59Speaker 4: And Churrio's fast, too, but he's not Simpson fast. And
- 20:03Speaker 4: you're looking at defense. Overall, both great defenders, too. They've
- 20:07Speaker 4: changed the game significantly. multiple ways and.
- 20:09Speaker 1: But does he need to be fast if he's sitting
- 20:11Speaker 1: over the wall.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Yeah you're right he doesn't need to be fast but
- 20:16Speaker 4: what we've seen so far in the postseason with from
- 20:19Speaker 4: cheerio i'm going to take simpson and left field i
- 20:23Speaker 4: do man i love my cheerio i do but.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'm going to take simpson center field and then we'll
- 20:28Speaker 1: do d8 let's.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Go center center field um man what Garrett Mitchell did
- 20:34Speaker 3: in the.
- 20:34Speaker 2: It was beautiful. It was beautiful, right? And then, you know, even.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:39Speaker 3: Yeah, robbing the home run, but then also hitting the
- 20:42Speaker 3: home bird, hitting him off left-handed pitching.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Man, he's coming in with a lot of momentum right now, too.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Yep.
- 20:51Speaker 2: The platoon advantage, though.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I mean, Garrett Mitchell didn't exactly crush Montana pitching during
- 20:56Speaker 3: the regular season. He did have some great swings, especially
- 20:59Speaker 3: off Tanner Scott in that series. But I do like
- 21:03Speaker 3: the platoon advantage that the Tampa Bay Rays have.
- 21:06Speaker 2: So I'm going to go with DeLuca and Cedric Mullins. Okay.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I like it.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I'm going to stick with the Brewers here and go
- 21:14Speaker 4: Mitchell because, I mean, the good thing is that the
- 21:19Speaker 4: Rays don't have many left-handed pitchers. They've got, what, two, three,
- 21:24Speaker 4: I believe. So that right there is looking great for Mitchell.
- 21:28Speaker 4: I mean, Mitchell wasn't even trying to hit that homer
- 21:31Speaker 4: right there, right? It looked like he just had a
- 21:33Speaker 4: little check swing, golf swing. And it goes over the fence.
- 21:36Speaker 4: So he's got some sneaky power. And, yeah, I mean,
- 21:39Speaker 4: both obviously great center fielders, great defensive players. And I'm
- 21:42Speaker 4: going to snoop with Mitchell from what he's been doing,
- 21:44Speaker 4: producing so far in this postseason.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Does it matter about guys that hit for contact? The
- 21:48Speaker 1: only reason I ask that is DeLuca. Just four strikeouts,
- 21:51Speaker 1: 30 ABs compared with Mitchell's 12 and 29. In a
- 21:54Speaker 1: game like this where runs are going to come at
- 21:56Speaker 1: a premium, you know you're going to face everyone's ace.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Does contact matter?
- 22:00Speaker 2: In the postseason, it does.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Putting the ball in play matters. I'll tell you what,
- 22:06Speaker 3: I never played in the World Series. I played in
- 22:07Speaker 3: the postseason, and I was a guy known for defense,
- 22:11Speaker 3: but I was always so much more nervous on defense
- 22:14Speaker 3: than offensively because you're expected to make the plays. So
- 22:17Speaker 3: when someone is constantly putting the pressure and not striking
- 22:20Speaker 3: out and making your team get close to.
- 22:23Speaker 2: 27 outs a game, it pays dividends in the postseason.
- 22:27Speaker 3: It might not in this one at bat or that
- 22:29Speaker 3: at bat, but over the course of a long season
- 22:31Speaker 3: or a long series, putting the ball in play is
- 22:34Speaker 3: what you ideally.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Need to do in the postseason. Force defense to make
- 22:38Speaker 2: it out. I had no idea.
- 22:40Speaker 4: I had no idea about that. Yeah, I love watching
- 22:42Speaker 4: you on defense, man. I never thought that it would be.
- 22:44Speaker 3: It kind of goes back to the other idea of
- 22:47Speaker 3: like in the postseason, you're always facing the team's best pitching.
- 22:50Speaker 3: So there's part of you that goes like, man, if I'm,
- 22:53Speaker 3: constantly facing the one, two, and three starter and the
- 22:56Speaker 3: best guys in the bullpen, they're probably supposed to get
- 22:58Speaker 3: you out, right? There was a freedom element to that,
- 23:00Speaker 3: but defensively, the whole world.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Knows it's a hope to make the play.
- 23:05Speaker 2: I mean, and I love that.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Both teams right now, to the outfield, as a pitcher...
- 23:11Speaker 4: I love, I love anyone they put out there because
- 23:13Speaker 4: this is a great defense.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And then you've got some plus, right?
- 23:17Speaker 1: You don't have to be so fine. You can stretch
- 23:19Speaker 1: the guys behind you. My defense has got my back.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I love this. I love this matchup.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I got this. I got, they got my back.
- 23:24Speaker 7: All right.
- 23:24Speaker 1: DH Yandy Diaz versus, uh, it could be Christian Yelich.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I could be Vaughn. We don't know what's going to
- 23:31Speaker 1: happen in terms of that. What Pat Murphy, which direction
- 23:33Speaker 1: he's going to go. Both guys, a fully qualified for
- 23:36Speaker 1: you taking this DH.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I mean, if you look at the names on the paper,
- 23:39Speaker 3: it's a really tough choice because obviously Christian Ellis is
- 23:42Speaker 3: a former league MVP.
- 23:44Speaker 2: He's the captain of this team. But in my opinion,
- 23:46Speaker 2: Yanni Diaz.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Is in a top one hand and not two hands
- 23:51Speaker 3: full of best pure hitters in baseball.
- 23:53Speaker 2: I think he's got one of the best approaches.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Every season, if you look at where Yandy Diaz ends up,
- 23:58Speaker 3: he ends up somewhere between 290 and 315.
- 24:02Speaker 2: With about 80 to 90 RBIs. He hits his 10,
- 24:05Speaker 2: 15 to 20 home runs a year.
- 24:06Speaker 3: Doesn't try to do too much. And the thing that
- 24:08Speaker 3: impresses me the most about him, he never gets away
- 24:10Speaker 3: from that right center field approach.
- 24:12Speaker 2: And he hits elite pitching. So it's hard to ever
- 24:15Speaker 2: bet against Yandy Diaz.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I'm right there too, man. I mean, I love Yelly.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Yelly and Vaughn, both former teammates. Huge respect for Yelly,
- 24:23Speaker 4: but Look, you look at Yandy Diaz in the box,
- 24:26Speaker 4: and the guy's big.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I mean, he's a presence in the box.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I measured yesterday.
- 24:31Speaker 2: The guy is big. We had a.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Measuring tape, thanks to Michael Beer, our social lead. I
- 24:37Speaker 1: measured Yandy Diaz's bicep. It's 20 inches.
- 24:40Speaker 2: These are not. They're not close yet.
- 24:44Speaker 4: You would think that this guy is Deadpool trying to
- 24:48Speaker 4: do huge damage. But like you said, I mean, he's
- 24:50Speaker 4: not getting away from his right center approach. which makes him,
- 24:54Speaker 4: I mean, it makes him very lethal up there. And then, yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 4: you hang something like he did, what, game six on
- 25:00Speaker 4: that changeup? I mean, that just shut the game.
- 25:02Speaker 1: He's a massive humanity. He is a presence in the box.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Appreciate the breakdown of all of the position players, you guys.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It is time to take a few questions from the
- 25:12Speaker 1: fans coming up next. How are you doing, Eric?
- 25:16Speaker 2: How are you doing, my man?
- 25:18Speaker 5: How about this weather out here?
- 25:20Speaker 2: What is your name?
- 25:22Speaker 1: What city are you from?
- 25:23Speaker 4: Okay.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Welcome.
- 25:24Speaker 5: How do you feel.
- 25:25Speaker 1: About this weather.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Coming into town here?
- 25:30Speaker 3: A lot better than the weather I came from, I'll
- 25:31Speaker 3: tell you that. And this is the epitome of October baseball.
- 25:35Speaker 2: This is perfect.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I mean, they live in Texas. I live in Massachusetts.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 25:43Speaker 5: To have you guys.
- 25:43Speaker 1: We love it.
- 25:44Speaker 5: You guys are rocking it.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Appreciate it. What's your question?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Tell us.
- 25:47Speaker 5: How do you feel about the weather?
- 25:49Speaker 1: It's beautiful.
- 25:50Speaker 2: It's post-season weather. I was expecting to be a little colder.
- 25:53Speaker 4: I mean, at 18, it was 35, 40 degrees the
- 25:56Speaker 4: whole NLCS.
- 25:57Speaker 5: You can deal with that.
- 26:00Speaker 2: It's perfect.
- 26:01Speaker 5: We'll see what Mother Nature has to.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Do for us. It's great. Good luck, Bert.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Good to be with you.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Cheers, Bucks.
- 26:05Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Go Bulls. Cheers. All right.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Hi, what's your name? Where are you from?
- 26:13Speaker 2: I'm Paul.
- 26:14Speaker 7: I live out in Brookfield. My question for you guys
- 26:18Speaker 7: is kind of a two-parter here. So you know that
- 26:21Speaker 7: only two starters have gone five innings for the Brewers.
- 26:25Speaker 7: So how much do you think that the Brewers starters
- 26:28Speaker 7: need to lengthen their starts? And how much did that
- 26:31Speaker 7: affect Murphy bringing Brandon Woodruff back in and taking Chad
- 26:36Speaker 7: Patrick out?
- 26:37Speaker 4: Do you think he's going to be able to start
- 26:39Speaker 4: and give a length?
- 26:41Speaker 2: For the starters.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'm going to defer to our pitcher.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Well, I'll answer this.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I think, I mean, obviously it works in the NLCS, right?
- 26:48Speaker 4: You got, you got Ms. Who didn't, didn't get up
- 26:50Speaker 4: to five, but Bob gas is Bob gas.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I mean, watch out.
- 26:54Speaker 4: He's a, and the thing is that's, that's great for
- 26:57Speaker 4: Murph is that you've got a bullpen to lean towards
- 27:01Speaker 4: right there. If you can't, The way council worked with
- 27:03Speaker 4: us when I was in there, it was, hey, we
- 27:05Speaker 4: just need the.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Starters to get through four. If you can get through four,
- 27:09Speaker 2: we can go from there, which is great.
- 27:11Speaker 4: But when you're talking about a six to seven game series, yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 4: it would be beneficial to have, you know, five, six
- 27:17Speaker 4: innings from Miz, from Hendo. And obviously you got your
- 27:20Speaker 4: Bob Gasthorne on the road. I want that guy on
- 27:23Speaker 4: the road 100% of the time.
- 27:24Speaker 2: So it'd be beneficial. Awesome. Yeah.
- 27:28Speaker 3: To follow up on that too, I think, What Milwaukee
- 27:31Speaker 3: has going for them is they had a quick series
- 27:34Speaker 3: in L.A. and they got ample time to get those
- 27:36Speaker 3: guys rested.
- 27:38Speaker 5: As this series.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Goes deeper, the pendulum or the momentum kind of swings,
- 27:43Speaker 3: assuming Tampa can kind of do what they did in
- 27:45Speaker 3: the previous series, have their guys go deeper into the game,
- 27:48Speaker 3: kind of favors their bullpen a little bit more. But
- 27:52Speaker 3: the fact that they were able to take care of
- 27:53Speaker 3: the Dodgers pretty quick, get rested, they have.
- 27:55Speaker 2: A healthy bullpen.
- 27:57Speaker 3: If they're not able to get length, though, in the
- 27:59Speaker 3: first three, four games, and we're talking about games five, six,
- 28:02Speaker 3: and seven, look for that bullpen to be a little
- 28:04Speaker 3: bit gas. It's only human nature. There's only so much
- 28:07Speaker 3: adrenaline in the world that can overcome pitching so deep
- 28:10Speaker 3: into the season.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 28:12Speaker 5: I thank you guys.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Go Brewers. Love Brookfield.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Hi there. What's your name? Where are you from?
- 28:19Speaker 5: Kurt from Green Bay.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Okay. Welcome.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I just want to ask you, I apologize if we
- 28:24Speaker 3: answered this earlier, but who do you pick for manager?
- 28:27Speaker 7: Pat Murphy making those tough decisions or Kevin Cash for finishing?
- 28:31Speaker 1: That's tough.
- 28:32Speaker 5: We're both good, right? Who are you taking?
- 28:36Speaker 2: It's such a great question. It's such a difficult question
- 28:40Speaker 2: to answer. I mean, no one in.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Baseball has been doing the same job longer than Kevin
- 28:47Speaker 3: Cash has been doing for the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 28:48Speaker 2: He's the longest-tenured manager in baseball.
- 28:51Speaker 3: He's arguably working with the smallest budget in baseball, and
- 28:56Speaker 3: the Tampa Bay Rays are a team that are always
- 28:58Speaker 3: competing for the postseason. To me, in a seven-game series,
- 29:04Speaker 3: all the chips on the line to win a series–
- 29:08Speaker 3: I want the guy who's got the best pulse on
- 29:10Speaker 3: the human beings in the room.
- 29:11Speaker 2: In my opinion, that's Pat Murphy. He's got the best pulse.
- 29:15Speaker 3: Do I believe Pat Murphy still is an analytical guy
- 29:18Speaker 3: and uses the information? But I think he has the
- 29:21Speaker 3: feel and the heartbeat of his team more than potentially
- 29:24Speaker 3: Kevin Cash. And I believe Kevin Cash does have a
- 29:26Speaker 3: great feel for that.
- 29:27Speaker 2: But I think it would be hard to argue against.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Pat Murphy not having a stronger grip of what his
- 29:34Speaker 3: team needs in these moments.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I agree.
- 29:37Speaker 4: I mean, you've probably been watching a lot of these games.
- 29:39Speaker 4: and you've seen some decisions. I've been there too. Some
- 29:42Speaker 4: of the decisions that Murphy's made, I'm like, man, I
- 29:45Speaker 4: don't know if I agree with it, you know, as, as,
- 29:47Speaker 4: me as a person, but then it's paid off.
- 29:49Speaker 2: I mean, he knows what he's doing.
- 29:51Speaker 4: There's things that he knows that we, as fans don't see,
- 29:55Speaker 4: we don't know.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I agree. Everything.
- 29:59Speaker 4: I think cash is a great manager, but I'm going
- 30:01Speaker 4: with Murphy here. The guy is stone cold.
- 30:03Speaker 2: This is who you want. They say, Murphy, we trust.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree. I know these guys played, but just
- 30:09Speaker 1: knowing Pat Murphy, there's something about being a big league
- 30:13Speaker 1: manager that you're not just putting a lineup together, right?
- 30:15Speaker 1: You're not just putting the roster together or constructing the lineup.
- 30:19Speaker 1: You have to be a psychologist of sorts, and Pat
- 30:22Speaker 1: Murphy has a way of relating to his players, unlike
- 30:25Speaker 1: a lot of managers that I've seen. So I think
- 30:27Speaker 1: we're three for three on Murph.
- 30:30Speaker 2: It was up for Ryan from Minneapolis.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Bye.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Hey, Corey, which is your favorite arm to watch on
- 30:37Speaker 4: the Brewers? And, Kevin, which one would you not want
- 30:40Speaker 4: to face in the box? Oh, my favorite arm to watch?
- 30:44Speaker 4: I mean, from the beginning, this guy has been one
- 30:47Speaker 4: of my teammates, one of my favorites. It's tough to
- 30:50Speaker 4: not choose Woody here, but I'm going with Ashby. Ashby's
- 30:53Speaker 4: been my guy. We rehabbed together in 19.
- 30:56Speaker 2: I watched the guy. He looked special back then.
- 30:58Speaker 4: And, I mean, watching what he's done, going from starter
- 31:01Speaker 4: all over the place to bullpen to now really finding
- 31:04Speaker 4: his home. Ashby's my guy, man. In our Brewer Territory stat,
- 31:10Speaker 4: he's got the most sack plus.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to give you a realistic answer.
- 31:15Speaker 3: I mean, knowing who I was as a player, especially
- 31:18Speaker 3: later in my career, I probably wouldn't have got the
- 31:20Speaker 3: chance to face Mizorowski because I was right-handed. I was
- 31:24Speaker 3: no longer an everyday player. That would have been an
- 31:26Speaker 3: absolute nightmare. There was times where I was like, man,
- 31:29Speaker 3: I wish I was playing. And then I was like, wait,
- 31:31Speaker 3: I'm thankful to be a platoon guy because I don't
- 31:33Speaker 3: have to face that type of right-on-right stuff. So Ashby
- 31:35Speaker 3: would be my answer because that's someone that I'd have
- 31:37Speaker 3: to face, potentially pitch hitting.
- 31:39Speaker 2: And I think... When you have a guy who has
- 31:41Speaker 2: the ability.
- 31:42Speaker 3: To throw in the upper 90s, close to 100, but
- 31:44Speaker 3: has multiple weapons, and you're going to pinch hit off
- 31:47Speaker 3: of him, it's a tough at-bat.
- 31:48Speaker 2: It's a really tough at-bat.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Mine is anybody that's efficient, is not a human rain delay,
- 31:53Speaker 1: even though we have the pitch clock now that just
- 31:55Speaker 1: absolutely throws strikes and deals. Any of them. Any of
- 31:58Speaker 1: those are.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Bob Gass and Henderson. Thank you.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Hi, I'm Matt from Fall River Mass.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Hi, Matt.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I'm Matt. What's up?
- 32:09Speaker 5: I've been a fan for 30 years, so coming out
- 32:10Speaker 5: here is huge for me. So a question I had was,
- 32:14Speaker 5: do you think.
- 32:14Speaker 3: You're playing Freddy Peralta in Tampa because the psyche of
- 32:17Speaker 3: him coming back home might mess with his ability to
- 32:20Speaker 3: be able to perform.
- 32:21Speaker 5: Because of the emotion of it? So they're trying to
- 32:23Speaker 5: cut that out and move him to Tampa so he
- 32:26Speaker 5: doesn't have that factor.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Playing the game? You know, who knows what.
- 32:31Speaker 4: What the actual reasoning is, but I think for Milwaukee fans, right,
- 32:34Speaker 4: you use that, right?
- 32:36Speaker 2: I mean, take it.
- 32:38Speaker 4: And then if that does happen in Milwaukee, then yeah,
- 32:40Speaker 4: I mean, go ahead and try and take advantage of it.
- 32:42Speaker 4: But look, as a pitcher, man, it's, it's tough to,
- 32:46Speaker 4: it's tough to really get that in your head. But
- 32:48Speaker 4: at the same time, I mean, it is baseball. If
- 32:52Speaker 4: you got fans hounding you the whole time, it's, it's
- 32:55Speaker 4: tough to not hear it. So No, I think Freddie
- 32:58Speaker 4: P is– he's a great pitcher and he's not going
- 33:00Speaker 4: to let anything get to him.
- 33:00Speaker 2: But, you know, Cash has his decisions.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Every manager has their decisions for reasons. So, yeah.
- 33:08Speaker 2: To answer your question, I'm going to say yes and no. Yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 3: I think no because I think the way that the
- 33:14Speaker 3: rotation lined up and him being on normal rest, it
- 33:17Speaker 3: made sense for him to pitch in game three. If
- 33:20Speaker 3: it would have worked out where every one of those
- 33:22Speaker 3: pitchers was available– Would they have potentially still pushed Freddie
- 33:26Speaker 3: P back to Tampa?
- 33:28Speaker 2: Possibly. The one thing.
- 33:30Speaker 3: That I think people forget about is Freddie didn't leave
- 33:33Speaker 3: here because he wanted to.
- 33:34Speaker 2: He got traded away from here.
- 33:36Speaker 3: And no matter how great you are as an athlete,
- 33:38Speaker 3: you're still a human being first. There's still this human
- 33:40Speaker 3: side of you that it would be hard for him
- 33:42Speaker 3: to come back and play in a place that he
- 33:45Speaker 3: loved and where people loved him. And when you're loved
- 33:48Speaker 3: and then you're now the enemy and you're being booed,
- 33:51Speaker 3: It's a hard thing to deal with as a human,
- 33:52Speaker 3: no matter how great of a competitor or how high-level
- 33:55Speaker 3: athlete you are. It would be a very difficult thing
- 33:57Speaker 3: for him to do. Is Freddie capable of doing it?
- 34:00Speaker 3: I think as this series goes deeper, which we all
- 34:03Speaker 3: expect it to go, he may have that opportunity to
- 34:05Speaker 3: pitch here back in Wisconsin.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I know for certain that Freddie Peralta has a great
- 34:10Speaker 1: deal of respect and admiration for the people of Milwaukee.
- 34:13Speaker 1: He loved it here. Obviously, his time in New York
- 34:15Speaker 1: was not the best for him, but Tampa has unlocked
- 34:18Speaker 1: something in him again. Kind of that fastball. Freddie Moniker
- 34:23Speaker 1: is back. He loves it there. I absolutely believe the
- 34:26Speaker 1: great Brewers fans will give him an amazing ovation. But
- 34:30Speaker 1: I think pitching, like KP's point, the fact that Nick
- 34:34Speaker 1: Martinez is a veteran player, can handle the ball in
- 34:36Speaker 1: game one. You give Drew Rasmussen one extra day of rest,
- 34:39Speaker 1: and then Freddie at home, it lines up well. He
- 34:42Speaker 1: could have pitched here, but it just kind of worked
- 34:44Speaker 1: out in Tampa Bay's favor to start.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Him at home.
- 34:46Speaker 4: And yeah, I mean, you look at Freddie, he closed
- 34:48Speaker 4: out game four. And then he started game six, so
- 34:51Speaker 4: it was kind of short rest for him. And, yeah,
- 34:53Speaker 4: I mean, also, to Milwaukee's standpoint, Milwaukee's got a great
- 34:58Speaker 4: fan base. You know, you're not out there trying to
- 35:01Speaker 4: boo opposing players unless you're Manny Machado.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Maybe you give him his flowers.
- 35:06Speaker 3: You allow him to be loved and then not have
- 35:09Speaker 3: to worry about hating him.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Amen.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Amen. That seems like a Kevin Cash move. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 2: We can do that. How's it going? I'm Zach. I'm
- 35:17Speaker 2: born and raised in Milwaukee.
- 35:18Speaker 9: My question is, how does the Brewers' ability to make
- 35:22Speaker 9: their comeback, as demonstrated in the NRC, put pressure on
- 35:25Speaker 9: both the pitching and the.
- 35:26Speaker 5: Offense of the Tampa Bay Rays? Because it feels like
- 35:30Speaker 5: all our games are already at least in Milwaukee.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I didn't hear the whole question.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Did you say something along the lines of just the
- 35:38Speaker 3: pressure that Milwaukee constantly.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Their ability to come back?
- 35:41Speaker 5: Of Milwaukee's ability to come back?
- 35:44Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Constantly punching back.
- 35:46Speaker 5: Yeah, because it's like an 0-0 game feels like a
- 35:48Speaker 5: Milwaukee lead.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean... Typically in baseball....
- 35:55Speaker 3: You ideally would like to try to get a lead
- 35:57Speaker 3: early because, you know, the team is playing from behind and,
- 36:01Speaker 3: you know, the sense of urgency changes a little bit
- 36:03Speaker 3: when you have a team that doesn't feel that sense
- 36:06Speaker 3: of urgency that, you know, you know, is, you know,
- 36:09Speaker 3: always in the game, no matter what the score is,
- 36:11Speaker 3: it puts a lot of pressure on you when you're up.
- 36:14Speaker 3: And typically in the game of baseball, when you have
- 36:16Speaker 3: the lead, you're a little bit more relaxed. You know,
- 36:18Speaker 3: the team has to like do something to come back
- 36:21Speaker 3: in the game. But when you're constantly always feeling the
- 36:24Speaker 3: pressure of a team, whether you're winning or losing, it
- 36:26Speaker 3: makes it difficult on every single one on the field
- 36:29Speaker 3: defensively to make pitches.
- 36:32Speaker 2: The fact that no.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Lead is safe is, and from a manager's perspective, You know,
- 36:37Speaker 3: whether you have a one-run lead or a four- or
- 36:39Speaker 3: five-run lead, you're probably going to your best guys in
- 36:42Speaker 3: the bullpen. And it's hard to do that for four
- 36:45Speaker 3: wins in a World Series. You constantly go to the
- 36:47Speaker 3: same four guys in the bullpen. So the Brewers' ability
- 36:50Speaker 3: to do that puts a lot of pressure on everyone involved.
- 36:54Speaker 2: And you've seen it.
- 36:54Speaker 4: I mean, they've been taking momentum so far in the postseason, so.
- 36:58Speaker 4: It's going to be a great series.
- 37:00Speaker 10: One thing for me, Zach, that I don't– wait, one
- 37:02Speaker 10: thing for me, the reason that I think the Brewers
- 37:06Speaker 10: have gotten over the hump this year versus in the
- 37:09Speaker 10: past when they've gotten to the postseason and can't get
- 37:11Speaker 10: to the World Series is because of what you're talking about, right?
- 37:14Speaker 1: We're used to the Brewers being in the postseason, but
- 37:16Speaker 1: this is the first time in recent memory that they've
- 37:19Speaker 1: been able to punch back. And that means to me
- 37:22Speaker 1: that this team has taken it to another level of
- 37:25Speaker 1: teams in most recent memory. Thank you for your question.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Thank you, Zach. Yeah, that's what he said. That's what
- 37:31Speaker 2: he said. That's what he said.
- 37:34Speaker 1: That's what he said. It is time for That's What
- 37:39Speaker 1: He Said. I interviewed Brandon Woodruff yesterday at Media Day. Now,
- 37:43Speaker 1: this was before we knew, you guys, that he was
- 37:46Speaker 1: actually going to make the World Series roster. Here's what
- 37:49Speaker 1: he had to say about the possibility of being on
- 37:53Speaker 1: the Brewers postseason roster. Let's take a listen.
- 37:55Speaker 11: I care about one thing, and that's winning. I know
- 37:58Speaker 11: it's not an easy decision. Um, everything had to work
- 38:02Speaker 11: out perfectly just to even have a shot at getting
- 38:05Speaker 11: to this point. Um, you know, from the beginning, once
- 38:09Speaker 11: I didn't need surgery, it was, um, it was a
- 38:12Speaker 11: deal where once I started throwing, um, I just wanted
- 38:18Speaker 11: to be an option at this point. Um, I know
- 38:20Speaker 11: what I bring to the table. Um, As a player,
- 38:24Speaker 11: and I'll always believe in myself, but I also realize
- 38:27Speaker 11: that I haven't pitched in a game in three months
- 38:31Speaker 11: or whatever it is. Yeah, so there's definitely a lot
- 38:35Speaker 11: that goes into the decision. The mental game has always been,
- 38:40Speaker 11: I feel like, a strength of why I am who
- 38:43Speaker 11: I am. I started working on it hard back in
- 38:46Speaker 11: the COVID season. And that's one thing going, unfortunately going
- 38:50Speaker 11: through a lot of these rehabs over the last couple
- 38:52Speaker 11: of years. I, um, that's one thing I can do
- 38:55Speaker 11: is mental reps and, um, I can do as many
- 38:58Speaker 11: of those as I want laying in the bed. You know,
- 39:01Speaker 11: when I come to the yard, um, I'm big on visualization. Uh,
- 39:05Speaker 11: I try to put myself in moments. Um, so from
- 39:10Speaker 11: that aspect, that side of it's never left for me. Um,
- 39:14Speaker 11: I've just had some physical challenges over the last couple
- 39:17Speaker 11: of years, and that's the nature of kind.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Of a shoulder.
- 39:23Speaker 1: We didn't know, you guys, if he was going to
- 39:24Speaker 1: make the postseason roster or not. He hasn't pitched in
- 39:26Speaker 1: a game since the 4th of July. I mean, obviously,
- 39:30Speaker 1: the pedigree is there, but you don't know if the
- 39:32Speaker 1: effectiveness is going to be there. We'll start with you
- 39:34Speaker 1: as a pitcher. I mean, you haven't pitched in three months.
- 39:36Speaker 1: You're coming in, perhaps. Maybe it's out of the pen.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 39:38Speaker 1: Maybe it's, to Kevin's point, one out out of the pen.
- 39:42Speaker 1: But why does this make sense in your mind to
- 39:45Speaker 1: have Big Wu on the roster?
- 39:47Speaker 4: I mean, look, his presence, obviously, we've noticed it. He's
- 39:51Speaker 4: been in the dugout. all postseason, all the regular season
- 39:55Speaker 4: once he got the news. And I think just like
- 39:58Speaker 4: he said, his mental reps, he is very strong mentally.
- 40:02Speaker 4: And that's what this game is, right? And I think
- 40:04Speaker 4: what he's done for some of these young players, pitchers,
- 40:07Speaker 4: bullpen guys, is he's shown numbers for them too, just
- 40:11Speaker 4: seeing him around. And even the way Murphy talked yesterday,
- 40:15Speaker 4: I think during the interview, didn't really sound like he
- 40:19Speaker 4: was going to, be putting Woody on the roster, right?
- 40:22Speaker 4: Because now you got to think of, of, of what
- 40:25Speaker 4: happened right in the, the, the Red Sox Dodgers world series.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I want to say that was 20, 2018. Yeah. 2018. Okay. What, what?
- 40:34Speaker 2: 18 innings, right? So that was insane.
- 40:37Speaker 4: You know, now you're, you're switching off Chad Patrick, who's
- 40:40Speaker 4: got that three to four innings and more, you know, and,
- 40:45Speaker 4: And you're switching it to, yeah, a one-out, a one-inning
- 40:48Speaker 4: guy because, yeah, who knows how his stuff's going to be?
- 40:50Speaker 4: Who knows how it's going to play? But Woody knows
- 40:53Speaker 4: that he can get outs with 85, 86 as his fastball,
- 40:58Speaker 4: and he can get outs with 100 miles an hour
- 41:00Speaker 4: as his fastball. So, yeah, I think that he knows
- 41:03Speaker 4: if he's ready, his stuff is going to be there.
- 41:06Speaker 2: But it's, yeah, his location, his accuracy.
- 41:09Speaker 4: If he was confident in his accuracy and they've been
- 41:11Speaker 4: watching his bullpens, his live BPs that he's been throwing,
- 41:14Speaker 4: If they're confident, which obviously they are, get them on.
- 41:18Speaker 1: But there's nothing that can simulate live action in a
- 41:22Speaker 1: real game and certainly not to the postseason level. Is
- 41:24Speaker 1: this the right move?
- 41:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think it goes back to understanding
- 41:29Speaker 3: the human being, too. And I don't think From everything
- 41:34Speaker 3: we've all seen, and obviously you guys know a little
- 41:36Speaker 3: bit better than me, I've had short interactions with Pat Murphy.
- 41:39Speaker 2: He's not a sugarcoater. He's not handing out participation trophies.
- 41:42Speaker 2: He's trying to win a World Series. He's trying to
- 41:44Speaker 2: bring a World Series back to Milwaukee. The first ever.
- 41:47Speaker 3: He's not doing this for anything other than he believes
- 41:50Speaker 3: that he's the best option out of the bullpen. And
- 41:53Speaker 3: what gives him confidence is exactly what Brandon Woodruff talked about.
- 41:57Speaker 2: He's been through so many things.
- 41:59Speaker 3: Obstacles in his career that his mental game is so
- 42:01Speaker 3: strong he's taken thousands of mentors and to your point
- 42:04Speaker 3: there's nothing that can recreate that environment for you yeah
- 42:08Speaker 3: but also to his point when you have that confidence
- 42:12Speaker 3: in yourself when you've had those mental reps when you've
- 42:14Speaker 3: been in these moments before and ultimately this game comes
- 42:17Speaker 3: down to belief in yourself and your confidence in yourself
- 42:20Speaker 3: whether he goes out and pitches at 90 or he
- 42:22Speaker 3: has 98 The Brewers.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Believe that he is the right guy for the job.
- 42:26Speaker 2: They've been watching him. They understand what he means to
- 42:29Speaker 2: this team.
- 42:29Speaker 3: Yes, there's a small portion that the emotional component of
- 42:33Speaker 3: what it means that Brandon Woodruff.
- 42:34Speaker 2: But once again, they're not handing out participation.
- 42:37Speaker 3: The fact that Brandon Woodruff had been so engaged with
- 42:39Speaker 3: this team, that he's been through so many things, that
- 42:42Speaker 3: he's been able to come back from so many injuries,
- 42:44Speaker 3: that his mental game is so strong, allows him to
- 42:47Speaker 3: feel confident putting him on the roster.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And I can't wait to hear the ovation for Brandon
- 42:51Speaker 1: Woodruff when he is announced. I was at Media Day yesterday.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I had an opportunity to talk to both the Brewers
- 42:55Speaker 1: and the Rays. We'll get to the Rays momentarily. Let's
- 42:57Speaker 1: start with the Brew crew and Sal Freelink. How much
- 43:00Speaker 1: does he rub off on you? He's so calm and
- 43:03Speaker 1: fun and loose. I don't know if he's always that way.
- 43:05Speaker 1: You and Sophia would know more because you're around him
- 43:07Speaker 1: all the time. But how much does that help you
- 43:09Speaker 1: as a player?
- 43:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it definitely helps. I hope not rub off.
- 43:13Speaker 12: I think if anyone said that, you know, that's something
- 43:15Speaker 12: Pat would say, I'd be mad but no um we
- 43:20Speaker 12: love him like that's our guy and it's so he
- 43:22Speaker 12: does such a good job you know that's why they're
- 43:24Speaker 12: they're called managers right not coaches and every other sport
- 43:26Speaker 12: they're coach or the head coach here they're managers because
- 43:29Speaker 12: they have to manage the players and it's a hard
- 43:31Speaker 12: clubhouse you got guys from every different country every different
- 43:34Speaker 12: background high school kids college kids and he's so uniquely
- 43:38Speaker 12: individualized his relationships with all players and he'll he'll tell
- 43:42Speaker 12: you firsthand that you know Baseball is a relationships game,
- 43:46Speaker 12: it's a people's game, and he's really mastered that. And
- 43:50Speaker 12: I think that's why anybody on the team will tell
- 43:52Speaker 12: you how much they love him and how much he
- 43:55Speaker 12: means to us and why.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Yelly said that all of you guys are best friends
- 43:59Speaker 1: because when he was asked who his best friend on
- 44:01Speaker 1: the team is, he said literally the entire roster. It
- 44:04Speaker 1: seems like that's the case with this group. Not only
- 44:06Speaker 1: do you guys play fundamentally sound baseball and you're a
- 44:08Speaker 1: very good team, it truly seems like you guys like
- 44:10Speaker 1: each other.
- 44:11Speaker 2: We do. I mean, we really do.
- 44:13Speaker 4: I mean, we hang out outside the field.
- 44:15Speaker 12: I could go on a road trip with anybody on
- 44:17Speaker 12: the team just one-on-one and it would be completely normal.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Like super close knit.
- 44:21Speaker 12: Um, yeah, I think a lot of it too is,
- 44:24Speaker 12: you know, I, I came up through the Myers with
- 44:26Speaker 12: a lot of guys, a lot of these small market teams, right.
- 44:29Speaker 4: Are homegrown players.
- 44:30Speaker 12: So you spend time with guys in the minor leagues
- 44:32Speaker 12: that'll make you best friends no matter what. Um, even
- 44:35Speaker 12: if you hate the guy, you'll be best friends coming
- 44:36Speaker 12: out of that. So, um, and, and the core group
- 44:40Speaker 12: of guys, especially maybe a year older, younger than me
- 44:42Speaker 12: come up in the minors and then, being guided by
- 44:44Speaker 12: guys like Brandon Woodruff and Christian Yelich. And then it
- 44:47Speaker 12: just seems that everybody that gets added just kind of
- 44:50Speaker 12: fits right in, um, to, to our team and our clubhouse.
- 44:54Speaker 1: When I hear you talk, Bryce, your demeanor, your inflection,
- 44:58Speaker 1: your calmness, your positivity sounds a lot like Chase Utley.
- 45:02Speaker 1: You have the same like cadence. Who did you grow
- 45:05Speaker 1: up in terms of an infielder that you kind of
- 45:08Speaker 1: try to emulate yourself after if anybody?
- 45:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:12Speaker 4: Um, I grew up with four sisters.
- 45:14Speaker 8: I didn't get to watch much baseball. They were always
- 45:17Speaker 8: at their sports, so I'd go with them. So TV
- 45:21Speaker 8: wasn't always a big thing for us and our family.
- 45:23Speaker 8: And I'm the youngest, so I didn't get the remote
- 45:26Speaker 8: when I was at the house.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Baby boy.
- 45:28Speaker 8: Yeah, they got the remotes. They picked what they wanted
- 45:31Speaker 8: to watch, and I sat there and watched it with them.
- 45:35Speaker 8: But he's definitely one that comes to mind. Tula Whiskey,
- 45:42Speaker 8: Angelson Simmons. I mean, if I went to any games,
- 45:46Speaker 8: they were Angel games, so I'd go see Eric Ivar.
- 45:49Speaker 8: I remember Johnny G. Vitella with the Angels. I always
- 45:53Speaker 8: loved how just, like, grindy of a player he was. Yeah, so, like,
- 45:58Speaker 8: just some of those guys. I like the grindiness of
- 46:02Speaker 8: the guys and going out there and playing as hard
- 46:05Speaker 8: as they can.
- 46:06Speaker 1: You mentioned Troy Chilowitzki. I had the opportunity to cover
- 46:08Speaker 1: him as a shortstop, of course. with the Colorado Rockies.
- 46:12Speaker 1: And I remember distinctly, he stood on a chair one day,
- 46:14Speaker 1: he said, I've never lost at any level of my career.
- 46:16Speaker 1: I'm not about to start right now. He was a
- 46:18Speaker 1: kind of, not necessarily a rah-rah guy, but he would
- 46:20Speaker 1: show it with his play. It reminds me of you guys.
- 46:23Speaker 1: There's nobody who's a rah-rah guy, but you just grind
- 46:25Speaker 1: at it. Is that, is that one of the reasons
- 46:28Speaker 1: that this club is so special?
- 46:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:31Speaker 8: I mean, I was always taught from my dad that, um,
- 46:36Speaker 8: your play is how you, how you prove it and
- 46:39Speaker 8: not how you act and not.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Great to be with you again, Dustin. Congratulations. Uh, what
- 46:46Speaker 1: is this like this moment for you? I mean, of
- 46:48Speaker 1: course the last year and change has been a bit
- 46:49Speaker 1: of an up and Hill challenge, but here you are.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:53Speaker 13: Uh, very, very blessed to be here. Uh, I thank
- 46:56Speaker 13: the Lord every day for just giving me the opportunity
- 46:58Speaker 13: to be here. And, uh, like looking back over the
- 47:01Speaker 13: last two years, I mean, two years ago, I wasn't
- 47:02Speaker 13: sure if I was ever going to play again.
- 47:04Speaker 2: So, um, being able to be here.
- 47:06Speaker 13: And be on this stage again with this team in
- 47:08Speaker 13: this moment, I'm very lucky and blessed.
- 47:12Speaker 1: How do you make sure you don't reflect on the negative, thinking, man,
- 47:14Speaker 1: am I ever going to pick up a ball again
- 47:16Speaker 1: and throw in a big league game versus here I am,
- 47:18Speaker 1: an opportunity to pitch in the biggest game of my life?
- 47:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:22Speaker 13: I mean, just looking back over my past, it's hard
- 47:27Speaker 13: not to look at it, but you've got to learn
- 47:29Speaker 13: to turn the page and kind of look at the
- 47:30Speaker 13: moment that you're in.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I kind of have.
- 47:36Speaker 13: Changed my outlook on it and I try to just
- 47:37Speaker 13: live in like I guess my little three-foot world and
- 47:40Speaker 13: not get out of it and I feel like it's
- 47:42Speaker 13: changed my mindset and being able to to turn the
- 47:45Speaker 13: page on some of the negative things that have happened
- 47:50Speaker 13: in the past and whether it be a good or
- 47:52Speaker 13: bad outing just not trying to look too far into
- 47:54Speaker 13: either of them and just look forward to the next
- 47:57Speaker 13: pitch or next time.
- 47:58Speaker 2: You got a huge calendar out that's showing it.
- 48:02Speaker 1: What a difference a couple of months makes, huh, for
- 48:04Speaker 1: Dustin May, obviously. Went from the Dodgers to the Red Sox.
- 48:07Speaker 1: That didn't work out very well. Then the Cardinals for
- 48:09Speaker 1: a hot second, and here he is with the Brewers.
- 48:12Speaker 1: So you never know what this game is going to
- 48:13Speaker 1: do and where this game is going to take you.
- 48:15Speaker 1: But they do seem, when you listen to Sal Freelick
- 48:18Speaker 1: and Dustin May, Corey, we'll start with you, seems like
- 48:20Speaker 1: this is a very unified club.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it is.
- 48:23Speaker 4: I mean, look, I think the moves at the All-Star,
- 48:27Speaker 4: the trade deadline, obviously, getting D. May and Sensatella was–
- 48:31Speaker 4: it was huge. I mean, I know that they tried
- 48:32Speaker 4: to go and get Scooble, but look, this is, I
- 48:35Speaker 4: think what they got in return was, was great. And
- 48:37Speaker 4: look at what Jojo Romero has been doing in the
- 48:39Speaker 4: bullpen as well. This guy's come out and obviously being
- 48:43Speaker 4: a huge part of the bullpen. And yeah, I mean,
- 48:47Speaker 4: Sal said it best. Look, they're just out here to game.
- 48:49Speaker 4: They're really, it's, it's just, I'm here to play some
- 48:52Speaker 4: baseball and have fun and, And they're doing just.
- 48:54Speaker 2: That right now in the postseason.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I love hearing him just talk about manager of people.
- 48:59Speaker 3: We hear manager all the time, and we're like, is
- 49:01Speaker 3: that just a fancy word they use in baseball because
- 49:03Speaker 3: everyone else is coach, head coach and stuff? But it's
- 49:06Speaker 3: so true because baseball, I guess maybe hockey would be
- 49:09Speaker 3: maybe the only other similar one where you just got
- 49:11Speaker 3: people coming from so many different backgrounds and countries and
- 49:14Speaker 3: stuff that in order to be a great manager, you
- 49:17Speaker 3: have to understand and you have to have individual relationships
- 49:20Speaker 3: with every single person. You know, where I grew up
- 49:22Speaker 3: is a lot different than where that guy grew up. And,
- 49:24Speaker 3: you know, my path in the major leagues is a
- 49:26Speaker 3: lot different than that guy's major leagues. How do I
- 49:28Speaker 3: have an individual relationship with those guys?
- 49:30Speaker 2: But collectively, how do we all pull in the same direction?
- 49:33Speaker 1: I mean, as long as Tommy Lasorda used to say
- 49:35Speaker 1: that everybody pull on the same side of the rope,
- 49:37Speaker 1: as long as everyone's goal is to win, doesn't matter
- 49:39Speaker 1: where you're from. That's it.
- 49:40Speaker 2: All right.
- 49:41Speaker 1: As promised, let's hear from the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday
- 49:44Speaker 1: at media day. Martinez was just in the press room, obviously.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Your game one starter, a lot of folks thought it
- 49:50Speaker 1: would be Drew Rasmussen, obviously. What does it mean that
- 49:52Speaker 1: Nick gets the ball and you obviously have Drew in
- 49:53Speaker 1: game two, Freddie in game three?
- 49:55Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it means a lot. I mean, Nick's been
- 49:56Speaker 6: our leader all year and he's been steering the ship. So,
- 49:59Speaker 6: I mean, we have full confidence in Nick. I mean,
- 50:00Speaker 6: he's been great all year. He's been an all-star and
- 50:03Speaker 6: he's definitely carried that into the postseason. So, we just
- 50:05Speaker 6: got to make sure we do our job as an
- 50:07Speaker 6: offense and a defense to stay behind him the whole way.
- 50:09Speaker 1: You speak to the leadership of Nick Martinez. I understand
- 50:11Speaker 1: he's kind of organizing the dinners in every city on
- 50:14Speaker 1: the road, and he doesn't have a C on his chest,
- 50:16Speaker 1: but he seems like the captain of this team. What
- 50:18Speaker 1: has that leadership meant to you?
- 50:19Speaker 4: I mean, it's meant a lot.
- 50:20Speaker 6: I mean, he's been second to none in what he's
- 50:22Speaker 6: done as a vocal leader and leading by example, and
- 50:24Speaker 6: then what he's done on the field has backed all
- 50:26Speaker 6: that up. So we definitely look up to him, and,
- 50:29Speaker 6: I mean, he's definitely brought this group together and exemplified
- 50:32Speaker 6: the camaraderie and friendship that we've had throughout the whole year. So,
- 50:35Speaker 6: I mean, he's been a great leader for sure.
- 50:37Speaker 1: There is nobody on this planet, I don't think, outside
- 50:39Speaker 1: of the Rays organization that thought you wouldn't get the
- 50:41Speaker 1: ball for game one. Talking to Kevin Cash about it, obviously,
- 50:44Speaker 1: an extra day of rest for you. Nick can certainly
- 50:46Speaker 1: handle the situation. Freddie gets to pitch at home. What
- 50:49Speaker 1: does that mean to you?
- 50:51Speaker 14: I mean, I'm really excited. I'm excited that Nick's going
- 50:53Speaker 14: to get us out of the gates, and I'm really
- 50:55Speaker 14: interested to see how he attacks these hitters and just
- 50:57Speaker 14: get an idea for what he's seeing and his preparation
- 51:01Speaker 14: and see how I can compare that to what I'm seeing.
- 51:05Speaker 2: And then, I mean.
- 51:07Speaker 14: He's been phenomenal this year. I'm so excited for him
- 51:10Speaker 14: as a person. Obviously, his journey hasn't also been the
- 51:13Speaker 14: most straight and narrow. It couldn't be a better guy
- 51:19Speaker 14: leading us out there tomorrow. Like I said, I just
- 51:22Speaker 14: couldn't be happier.
- 51:23Speaker 1: It's never linear.
- 51:24Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 51:24Speaker 2: Good luck.
- 51:25Speaker 9: I'm very comfortable here, and I would love to stay
- 51:28Speaker 9: here for the rest of my career, especially because there's
- 51:34Speaker 9: a lot of people that I love here, a lot
- 51:35Speaker 9: of people.
- 51:36Speaker 2: that care about each other.
- 51:39Speaker 9: I think that they are very smart.
- 51:41Speaker 2: They know what they're doing.
- 51:43Speaker 9: I know that they're going to help me to get better,
- 51:46Speaker 9: to stay the way that I am now, to get
- 51:48Speaker 9: me better for the future years. And also because for me,
- 51:54Speaker 9: I live in Florida, and everything's easier for me in general,
- 52:00Speaker 9: not only in baseball, also football.
- 52:03Speaker 1: You had mentioned you guys get along really well. You
- 52:05Speaker 1: and Junior hanging out at the beach together. It seems
- 52:08Speaker 1: like this is such a tight-knit group and a family.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Can you speak to how that translates into the success
- 52:12Speaker 1: on the field?
- 52:13Speaker 9: It means a lot. And I understood that probably like five,
- 52:18Speaker 9: six years ago. I remember I used to do that
- 52:21Speaker 9: here too in Milwaukee. And it's amazing because at the
- 52:27Speaker 9: end of the day, sometimes or most of the time
- 52:30Speaker 9: we as a play play baseball player we are not
- 52:32Speaker 9: with the family around most of the time and you
- 52:35Speaker 9: need you need to do something you need to do
- 52:38Speaker 9: fun stuff without doing stupid things around you know and
- 52:41Speaker 9: you need you need the right people around you and
- 52:44Speaker 9: and i see this as a family uh we find
- 52:47Speaker 9: a way to have fun uh all the time uh
- 52:50Speaker 9: playing dominoes eating finding the way we always find a
- 52:54Speaker 9: way and i for me that's very important and that's
- 52:57Speaker 9: uh It plays a huge part in a team when
- 53:01Speaker 9: you have.
- 53:03Speaker 2: Those teams around.
- 53:04Speaker 9: We get together for dinners, too. It's a team dinner,
- 53:08Speaker 9: a lot. And I think it makes everything easier and
- 53:12Speaker 9: better for us.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun to hear Freddy Peralta guys say that
- 53:19Speaker 1: he wants to retire a brewer. He's obviously found, or
- 53:22Speaker 1: retire a Ray, rather.
- 53:23Speaker 2: I apologize. Retire a Ray, yeah. Retire a Ray.
- 53:25Speaker 1: He's obviously found a niche. He's found a spot. Wish
- 53:28Speaker 1: him nothing but the best because he's just a good dude.
- 53:30Speaker 1: He's easy to root for, but this is going to
- 53:32Speaker 1: be a very, very good series. All right, it is
- 53:35Speaker 1: almost game time, so let us slap hands.
- 53:43Speaker 4: All right.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Guys, just want to take the opportunity to say thank
- 53:49Speaker 1: you to the great crowd that we've had here. Obviously,
- 53:51Speaker 1: live in Milwaukee, they are psyched. It is packed. Every
- 53:55Speaker 1: single little spot, there's a person standing in it, as
- 53:59Speaker 1: Corey was mentioning. The watch parties on the road, when
- 54:03Speaker 1: the team is on the road, 31,000 fans have purchased tickets,
- 54:07Speaker 1: 15 bucks a ticket. You can't beat that. Congratulations to
- 54:10Speaker 1: the Brewers for having Such good success with that. That's
- 54:13Speaker 1: going to do it for us. Thank you guys so
- 54:15Speaker 1: much for watching.
- 54:16Speaker 10: Come and check out our live show.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Thanks for all the awesome fan questions. We appreciate it
- 54:21Speaker 1: very much. And thank you so much to our sponsor,
- 54:23Speaker 1: Fox One, for hosting us. We're back tomorrow. The three
- 54:26Speaker 1: of us are back tomorrow here, 5 to 7 p.m.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Central Time at Catalana Square. Enjoy Game 1. Enjoy the
- 54:33Speaker 1: World Series, everybody.
- 54:36Speaker 2: Thank you.
