- 0:00Welcome to Performance Driven Living, the podcast where we question everything.
- 0:05We don't tip to around tough topics, we walk right into them, not to provoke, but to
- 0:11get closer to what's real.
- 0:13You might not agree with everything you hear, and that's okay.
- 0:16The show isn't about being right, it's about being real.
- 0:20These conversations are meant to stretch your thinking, challenge assumptions, and spark
- 0:25something deeper.
- 0:26The views shared are those of our guests and may not reflect those of the host or team.
- 0:32And while we dive deep into health, performance, and transformation, this is not medical advice.
- 0:38Talk to your doctor before making changes to your health or lifestyle.
- 0:42Take what lands, leave what doesn't, but whatever you do, don't stop questioning.
- 0:55We are here at the Performance Driven Living Podcast, and I am here with my guest, and
- 1:01she's telling me her name is pronounced Dorebi.
- 1:06But we're just going to go with Dore, because Dore is what you go by anyway, so I like
- 1:09that better.
- 1:10And this is Dore Riker.
- 1:12And Dore, I always say my team puts together these show notes, and they do it so well.
- 1:18And literally it's this whole script of everything I need to say, and so on.
- 1:22I don't think I've ever done it the way that they put it together.
- 1:24But they do such great intros for you that I would never be able to actually do.
- 1:29So I always read the intro if you're okay with that.
- 1:31And it says, today's guest brings a deeply integrated approach to wellness.
- 1:37One that unites movement, nourishment, lymphatic health, and cultural joy.
- 1:43Dore Riker is the founder of robust wholeness in occupational and lymphatic therapists, holistic
- 1:49health coach, and certified women's health and gut health practitioner.
- 1:53He's on a mission to help people heal holistically, mind, body, and spirit.
- 1:58And her passion is as vibrant as her approach.
- 2:01Wow.
- 2:02I know.
- 2:03Job, guys.
- 2:04Like, literally, I'm like, I couldn't write this stuff like, and I certainly am not just
- 2:07going to ad-lib that.
- 2:08I can't even describe myself.
- 2:10I know.
- 2:11I'm like, guys, can you describe me?
- 2:12That was beautiful, executed.
- 2:13And my guys, I need you to describe me, except I'm almost afraid of what that would
- 2:17say.
- 2:18Dore, I'm so happy to have you here today.
- 2:20Thank you.
- 2:21Thank you for having me.
- 2:22So I want you to talk to me because the goal of our podcast here is I say that I vicariously
- 2:28want to be the voice of the people.
- 2:30Okay.
- 2:31And it's tough, because I'll say this, like, I know a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff,
- 2:34and I probably know a little stuff about a lot of stuff, so I just think I know more
- 2:37than I do.
- 2:38But it's like, I want to learn.
- 2:40Like there's nothing in the world I don't want to actually learn.
- 2:42And I say that this podcast is just a way for me to learn things.
- 2:46And when I ask people if they want to be a guest, everybody feels special.
- 2:49I get like one-on-one tutoring here with absolutely zero cost.
- 2:52So I kind of like that.
- 2:54That's great.
- 2:55That's cool.
- 2:56It continues for me.
- 2:57Yes.
- 2:58Yes.
- 2:59You are.
- 3:00And I just read in this absolutely beautiful intro here that robust wholeness, occupational
- 3:05and fatic therapists, holistic health coach, women's health and gut health practitioner,
- 3:11like, oh my gosh.
- 3:12I'm like, how does anybody do all of this kind of stuff?
- 3:15But before the show, I actually asked you, like, what do you really want to focus on?
- 3:19And you said something that I've never heard anybody say before, which is really funny,
- 3:23because you're like, I'm a lymphatic specialist.
- 3:25And I'm like, who is a lymphatic specialist, right?
- 3:29Like that seems ridiculous, because you say lymphatic specialists to me.
- 3:32And I start thinking like dry brushing and stuff.
- 3:34Oh, that's just an idigridio.
- 3:35Exactly.
- 3:36That's just the very top of it.
- 3:39And I would love, love, love.
- 3:41Because I don't think, I'm going to say, again, remember, I know a little about a lot.
- 3:47The lymphatic system is probably one of the least talked about systems in the body, to
- 3:51be honest with you.
- 3:52And yet, it literally is the system that does the most to get rid of the damage.
- 3:58And not dealing with our lymphatic system actually holds the damage in the body.
- 4:03And sadly, it's not like a garbage can that just sits with garbage in it.
- 4:08Garbage creates more garbage.
- 4:10It's kind of like the mold in the garbage can that continues to grow in the smell that
- 4:13starts to stench through the entire house when you don't take out the garbage.
- 4:18And that lymphatic system is just so important to getting rid of the damage for so many reasons.
- 4:23But your lymphatic specialist, which means like, you're like a garbage man.
- 4:30It's practically for the body, yeah.
- 4:32You can say that.
- 4:34That's the intro I would have written, aren't you glad they wrote it?
- 4:37Yeah, thank you for doing that, guys.
- 4:39Frankly, the lymphatic system is so fascinating to me.
- 4:42I came across it as a pathology.
- 4:45My mom had breast cancer.
- 4:47And when my mom, after her mastectomy, I want to see a couple of years later, she started
- 4:52developing swelling in her arm.
- 4:54And I was already a notee, and I wasn't taking the answer of her oncologist that was saying,
- 4:59no, that's residual.
- 5:00We see that sometimes from a mastectomy, it's totally normal, go away.
- 5:05And my mom was starting to lack movement.
- 5:07Her range of motion was in the same.
- 5:09She was living in New York at the time, so I was traveling back and forth.
- 5:13And it wasn't until, frankly, one day I went to a public library in New York, because we're
- 5:16talking 2009 here, 2008, like Google really wasn't as prominent as it is now.
- 5:23And I find a left entitus.
- 5:27And I'm like, hmm, if a mosquito can do that to the lymphatic system, I wonder what would
- 5:31happen if they remove lymph nodes, which is what ends up happening when you have cancer.
- 5:36So I dug a little deeper, and I found the Academy of Lymphatic Studies in Florida.
- 5:41And I was living in Florida at the time, and I called them, and I said, look, I pretty
- 5:45sure my mom has lymphedema.
- 5:47So I went ahead and I got certified.
- 5:49It's a six months specialization on top of my OT degree.
- 5:53It was in six month online course, and then it's a 12 hour 10-day seminar of hands-on
- 5:58training.
- 5:59You learn how to do the decomgestive therapy bandaging.
- 6:02So my mom was my very first patient.
- 6:04And then I looked at that, and I started thinking to myself, like, I learned so much.
- 6:10And what if I just take this and make it wellness and teach people, like, hey, like if you
- 6:14really care for this system, you're going to have longevity.
- 6:18Like there's no if what's about, like a lot of my clients that I coach too, holistically
- 6:22with nutrition, I'll tell them, how's your lymphatic system?
- 6:26Are you stagnant anywhere?
- 6:27And just by palpating certain areas of their body, I can tell.
- 6:31So I put them on a nutrition plan, and then I put them on the lymphatic regimen.
- 6:35I'll have them come see me like once or twice a week.
- 6:39And initially the weight loss is just crazy, right?
- 6:43Crazy, like, and they're like, that was my missing link.
- 6:46A lot of people don't know that your lymphatic system is actually what carries their fat
- 6:50cells.
- 6:51So all the cellulite build up in women is your lymphatic system is stagnant.
- 6:55Really?
- 6:56I don't think I've ever heard that before.
- 6:57Yeah, so a lot of it can be, you know, what do you call it?
- 7:01I'm a vegetarian, but I, I'm a bright believer, like just how they say cancer is a vegetarian.
- 7:05I'm like, it's environmental.
- 7:06You'll have that 10% heterotary chance, but it's your day-to-day life.
- 7:10What you do, what you eat, what you put in your skin, all of those things matter.
- 7:15So getting back to the lymphatic system, but the cellulite, the small intestine is what
- 7:21actually carries the fat.
- 7:23So I did a really cool video on my Instagram.
- 7:27And it shows the diagram of the small intestine, and then it shows it shunting nutrients to
- 7:31the bloodstream, all our vitamins, all the nutrients we need, but the fats don't get
- 7:35carried.
- 7:36And they just kind of stay lingering around the body until the lymphatic system comes and
- 7:41picks them up and takes them up and goes to the liver, and it goes through all the process
- 7:45of decomposing and wasting.
- 7:49But if your lymphatic system is stagnant, you're not going to have that.
- 7:52Really holding onto it.
- 7:53You're going to just hold it, and there is that weight gain that a lot of women struggle
- 7:57with.
- 7:58And now we're having with the hormone replacement therapy.
- 8:02I have a client, she just turned 60, and her goal was to feel young again.
- 8:10She wanted to have sex with her husband.
- 8:12She wanted to feel, she's a beautiful 60-year-old woman.
- 8:15She works out.
- 8:17She was pretty heavy when I met her.
- 8:19She's like, I just can't lose weight.
- 8:20They have me on thyroid medicine, they have meal cholesterol meds.
- 8:24I put her on one of my regimens.
- 8:26I worked with her for, I want to say, six months, and she is now wearing a size six.
- 8:32She says she has so much energy, and I moved here from Florida, so she doesn't have me anymore
- 8:37and I try to get her other therapist, which is just not the same, because I combine everything.
- 8:43So you're not here to Austin?
- 8:44I'm actually in Dallas.
- 8:45In Dallas.
- 8:46I live in Crisco, Northern Dallas.
- 8:47No kidding.
- 8:48I actually used to live out that way.
- 8:49Yeah, I've been here nine months now from Florida.
- 8:52We're in Florida.
- 8:53Palm Beach, Foxohatchee.
- 8:54I live in Fort Lauderdale.
- 8:55Yeah, so I had two acres there.
- 8:57I had my little farm, my little homestead chickens and the whole thing.
- 9:01So far.
- 9:02It's been a change for me to come here.
- 9:03I have to say like, Dallas is different than Florida.
- 9:05Yeah, so I feel like a city girl again.
- 9:07Like I grew up in Queens, New York, so I'm like, oh, my city girl is activated again,
- 9:10but I do miss the beach and my little farm.
- 9:13I like being near the beach.
- 9:14I'm not going to lie.
- 9:15So Dory, you said something.
- 9:17You said something that I really want to touch on real quick, because I always say that
- 9:21there's, you know, where your pain is, there's your purpose, like that kind of turns into
- 9:25a story that I see thematically throughout everybody that I talk to, particularly in this
- 9:30wellness space, because I say that it's like madlibs.
- 9:33You know, I once was diagnosed with fill in the blank.
- 9:37And then I went to a doctor and they weren't able to do anything with it.
- 9:40No specialist had an answer, but I discovered blank and it kind of becomes this founder's
- 9:45story on repeat.
- 9:46Like I said, it's like a madlib in your story as your mother.
- 9:51Right?
- 9:52Like your mother had a problem, and nobody was treating that problem.
- 9:55So you dove in, Catherine Arnston, over at, if you're familiar with Catherine and energy
- 10:00bits, like her sister developed cancer, and she was trying to find out a way that she
- 10:03could help with this.
- 10:05It just, I could tell you story after story after story about someone who's loved one,
- 10:09was there was the catalyst for their, their moment, the, the folks over at, um, their
- 10:17massage.
- 10:18If you know Robbie and Melody, like, there's, was their, their child who ended up, you
- 10:22know, dying, but that, that became the story after story after story is, here's my pain.
- 10:28You know, your mom was struggling with something that it frustrated you, that you didn't know
- 10:31how to solve it and no one else seemed to solve it.
- 10:34So you dove in and took care of it yourself.
- 10:36And I love that because passion drives purpose, 100% and now everyone you talk to ends up
- 10:41getting the benefit of your mother's issue.
- 10:43Like that charged your passion.
- 10:46And all these jokes that the best thing that came out of her cancer was my career.
- 10:50And that's something that she's like, to me, like, I will take it because I know what
- 10:55you're doing and I know the lives that you're changing and the movement that you're creating.
- 10:59And she's like, I get it.
- 11:01And I don't want to hear that as a daughter because it's my mom, you know, and you're,
- 11:06but it's true though, that pain did drive that purpose for me a hundred percent.
- 11:09Yeah, but it's that divine table turning, right?
- 11:11Like what was intended for evil turned to good.
- 11:13Amen.
- 11:14And I love that.
- 11:15And I've got a client and a friend of mine that's a family and one of the daughters ended
- 11:21up diagnosed with ALS and, you know, she was told three years you're out, so on, so forth.
- 11:26Praise God.
- 11:27That was 16 years ago.
- 11:28But her dad was an osteopathic surgeon who came out of retirement was like, no, I'm
- 11:32now an ALS researcher and ended up finding a supplement, a regimen that was able to,
- 11:38like she's still alive 16 years later.
- 11:41And, you know, he's, oh my gosh, Vince, he's got to be close to 90 years old now.
- 11:45And it's like a hundred percent active, like he wouldn't even imagine, like he's just
- 11:48a love the guy.
- 11:50And sharp is anything so on, so forth.
- 11:52And everything is like amazing and Deanna, um, she'll be like, you're welcome.
- 11:58Like, yeah, she's like, I have ALS, but you're welcome.
- 12:02Like, I did this for you, like, and it's kind of funny because she's his reason for
- 12:08living.
- 12:09Like, like, her parents are, you know, in their, you know, 80s, 90s, and, and they're
- 12:16just like, no, like, she needs us when I go anywhere, like, and it's just kind of funny,
- 12:20though, because like, in that pain becomes that purpose.
- 12:22And I love that story.
- 12:24And I mean, the best thing that came out of your mom's cancer was your career.
- 12:27I love that.
- 12:28Thank you.
- 12:29But I'm pivoting to the trash can.
- 12:31Okay.
- 12:32This, this lymphatic system that, that ends up being this, I mean, really like I said,
- 12:38so much system.
- 12:39That's the best way to describe it with a locked, you know, literally it's, it's the
- 12:43body's sewer, right?
- 12:45You need to, you need to do this.
- 12:47And it's the indoor plumbing for your body that is taking out the waste, but sometimes
- 12:52it gets clogged.
- 12:53Sometimes it doesn't work the way it should.
- 12:55And unfortunately, we don't think about that system very much.
- 12:59And yet you mentioned cancer that's usually, I mean, they normally tell you because that
- 13:05sewage system runs the entire body, like, it's everywhere in the body.
- 13:09It's not in whatever.
- 13:10And you've got some pockets in your body that are, that are higher density, right?
- 13:14Your abdomen, believe it or not, you're, that's why deep, defragmatic breathing is one
- 13:18of the best things you can do in the morning to start your morning.
- 13:21Now correct my science here, because like, remember, I know a little about a lot, the
- 13:25lymphatic system.
- 13:26So if we're talking about the digestive system, we can talk about like peristalsis, right?
- 13:30Like it, it has movement of itself, correct.
- 13:33The lungs clearly have movement of themselves, the heart beats, right?
- 13:38Each of the systems in the body actually have that type of movement.
- 13:41But one of the, one of the issues with the lymphatic system is it doesn't actually have
- 13:45that type of movement for us.
- 13:46It's strictly relies on your movement.
- 13:49So if you're, if it relies on muscle movement, so if you're not a very active person and
- 13:54you're more sedentary, you're bound to have more of a stagnant lymphatic system than
- 13:57someone who exercises on a daily basis.
- 14:00That, that literally like your lymphatic system doesn't, it doesn't have any, like if your
- 14:05bladder does, right, you will expel, because your bladder will, your digestive system will
- 14:10push it until it's, until it's full enough that it needs to be relieved.
- 14:14But again, that lymphatic system, that's the one thing it doesn't have, which is weird,
- 14:19because it's running the entire body, but you need to push the button that actually isn't
- 14:23that amazing.
- 14:24It's crazy, right?
- 14:25No, we're, God's like, I'm not going to give it all to you.
- 14:27You've got to work for it.
- 14:28You've got to do a little bit.
- 14:29You know, and that's exactly, so the lymphatic system tends to be an area for a lot of people,
- 14:34particularly people who are dealing with chronic disease, that ends up getting a, a backlog,
- 14:41if you will, like it gets that jammed up plumbing, that people, you need to do something.
- 14:47And one of the best ways, I mean, I'm going to say exercise is probably one of the best
- 14:50ways to deal with the lymphatic system, obviously.
- 14:54But when the system gets jammed up, even sometimes that's not even enough to relieve that.
- 14:59What are some of the, I want to, I want to start with the problems, and then we'll move
- 15:02on to the solutions, that is, you mentioned weight gain, that clearly that's a problem
- 15:07that a lot of people struggle with, you know, we live in an incredibly obese society.
- 15:13And part of that, we can get into the processed foods and all the other nonsense, you know,
- 15:19you see my maha bottle here.
- 15:21Yes.
- 15:22Love it.
- 15:23But the truth is, is we can talk about, you know, what's going on that's actually causing
- 15:26that obesity pandemic, we can talk about, you know, dopamine release and whatnot.
- 15:30But the reality is, is like, a lot of people are struggling with this, and they don't
- 15:33even care why they just want to know what do I do about it, right?
- 15:37What are some of the other things that you see?
- 15:40Like, if the lymphatic system is jammed up, if there's a problem with lymphatic drainage
- 15:44somehow, what, what are the symptoms of that?
- 15:48Like what, what types of diseases or illnesses are symptoms?
- 15:51It really varies per person.
- 15:53I come across a lot of women in some of my clients with autoimmune diseases, like autoimmune
- 15:58disorders, like lupus, a lot of thyroid issues, a lot of it, and a lot, many times once
- 16:05we get the person on stagnate, we get them cleared out and I teach them, I'm like, look,
- 16:09I don't expect you to see me for the rest of your life.
- 16:13My goal is to educate you and for you to learn how to do this on your own.
- 16:16So definitely autoimmune, a lot of thyroid issues, believe it or not, it can affect your
- 16:22liver and your kidney because your liver and your kidneys are connected to your lymphatic
- 16:27system.
- 16:28So if they're getting pumped and they're not being released, all of that's not filtering
- 16:33properly, then you'll have other issues that can arate from the liver.
- 16:38You said autoimmune and I want to park there for just a quick minute because, and I'll
- 16:43say, I have a sister who thinks that she's a magnet for autoimmune and I'm not getting
- 16:49into all of her health issues, but she's parked on autoimmune, like she stuck in this autoimmune
- 16:56mindset.
- 16:57And you know, the doctor told me that once you have one autoimmune issue, it's pretty
- 17:01normal to have others and it's like, she has vitiligo and oh my gosh, now I've got
- 17:06Hashimoto's, it figures just my luck, right?
- 17:09And I mean, aside from the psychological and energetic causes of constantly being ear,
- 17:17there's part of that that tells me like autoimmune to me, I reject autoimmune as being even
- 17:22a disease, right?
- 17:23Like people say autoimmune disease and I immediately go, oh, you mean you haven't figured
- 17:26out the cause yet?
- 17:27Exactly.
- 17:28And usually, no, no, I have a diagnosis, I'm like, yeah, that means that it's a similar
- 17:32symptom and they still haven't figured out the cause.
- 17:34I had to go to Columbia to get diagnosed with mine and I hate, like you said, even put
- 17:40in it into existence, but I have breast implants and I'm actually feeling a lot of the symptoms
- 17:45of breast implant illness and I've got to countless doctors here to get blood work and
- 17:49they're like, there's no such thing over there.
- 17:51They call it Asia and it's a syndrome that affects you when your body starts attacking
- 17:56itself from the inside out because of the foreign substance.
- 17:59So I had to go home to see a doctor there to get, to know what I had to do.
- 18:04Obviously, I'm going to have them remove this year, but America is just, we're just
- 18:08so behind the ball.
- 18:09We are so behind the ball.
- 18:10It's so many things I want to unpack there.
- 18:14So let's finish the autoimmune, but I want to get into the ex-plant conversation as well.
- 18:18So autoimmune, do you agree with me that by and large, what we're calling autoimmune really
- 18:26is just we don't know the source?
- 18:28100% with you on that.
- 18:30Autoimmune, everything from, as you mentioned, lupus, anything, Vidaligo, Hashimoto's, they're
- 18:37calling all of these autoimmune.
- 18:38And met Thyroid meds, which does change in their lifestyle.
- 18:41MS is an autoimmune and it's like, well, we're calling them all autoimmune, rheumatoid
- 18:47arthritis, like all of these things, they're all classified as autoimmune.
- 18:51It's like none of these things even have similar symptoms, but we classify them as autoimmune
- 18:56and then, and I hate to say this because I'm very much a mindset-driven person, right?
- 19:01I'm in the way you start defining yourself, the IAM statements, determines the way your
- 19:07body functions, because if I tell you I am in danger, your body responds in a sympathetic
- 19:11response and all of a sudden, we start acting like we're in danger, our bodies respond
- 19:16like we're in danger because you just made a declarative statement.
- 19:20And I hate diagnosis for that reason because you start working, your body starts functioning
- 19:24as if that's just true now, right?
- 19:27So data side, though, when we get into this autoimmune conversation, I'm super curious.
- 19:36Why is the, what, what is your belief on why the medical community is okay with, with
- 19:41taking all of these things and dumping them into one big bucket called autoimmune because
- 19:47unfortunately, what is it, what is it, the other thing is like, I hear people who have
- 19:53an autoimmune condition and they say things like, well, it's just my own immune system
- 19:58fighting against itself and it's like, there's a reason behind that.
- 20:02Right.
- 20:03Exactly.
- 20:04And I'm like, what's their reasoning?
- 20:05That is not evolutionary possible.
- 20:07Like, that doesn't happen.
- 20:08You don't, your system doesn't kill itself.
- 20:11Like, there's a reason why your system is reacting the way it's reacting.
- 20:16This isn't random.
- 20:17Like, what, what do you see in this with these autoimmunes?
- 20:21And you said your own autoimmune, right?
- 20:23It's like, what is happening there?
- 20:25And you're saying that your autoimmune condition, you're linking to, to implants.
- 20:29To the implants, just based on what I felt after, like, my care change, actually,
- 20:35not having an exam right now, I have things that I'd never dealt with in the past.
- 20:40Granted, I'm 41, but I take very good care of myself.
- 20:42I mean, I drain myself every morning, my lymphatic system is like my main priority in
- 20:47the morning when I wake up as a practitioner.
- 20:51So I just, I started digging deeper because I'm feeling tired often.
- 20:55I was a 530 in the gym kind of girl, and I'm like, oh, can I just sleep in a little
- 21:00bit?
- 21:01Like, so a lot of those things started kind of like, something's not right here.
- 21:04I know it's not my hormones.
- 21:07That's another thing that, you know, I can go dive into, but it's really just the connection
- 21:15that I have with my body and how it speaks your body lets you know when something is
- 21:20off.
- 21:21And you just have to listen and be so in tune with yourself, which is how I was able
- 21:25to pick up that the implants are causing me more harm than as pretty as they are, but
- 21:30they have to go.
- 21:31Well, and it's exactly, I mean, it's a voluntary, it's clearly aesthetics.
- 21:36I'm a man.
- 21:38South Florida girl.
- 21:39Absolutely.
- 21:40I'm a man.
- 21:41No one complains about it, but the reality is is you don't, when you put something
- 21:46foreign into your body, your body is designed to destroy it, but the body's natural reaction
- 21:53to any kind of toxin or foreign substances to expel.
- 21:56Correct.
- 21:57You know, and that's why we have, you know, systems that sweat and systems that urinate
- 22:02and systems that defecate and like, your body wants rid of whatever is in it that's
- 22:06foreign and with implants, you're putting whether that's sailing, whether that's silicone,
- 22:12like whatever.
- 22:13And we're kind of implants.
- 22:14If I took a pencil and jabbed it into my stomach, like the body is going to fight against
- 22:19it, right?
- 22:20It doesn't belong there.
- 22:21And anything that doesn't belong immediately becomes the enemy.
- 22:25Tell me this, because I just literally just had a conversation yesterday with a guest
- 22:30by the name of Andy Liu, and she actually wrote a book called Treasure to Chest, and her
- 22:36entire story was about having her ex-plant and just years of shame that she felt over
- 22:42doing this as a health expert and then getting implants as a health expert and then going
- 22:47through the ex-plant process and so on and so forth and then dealing with scarring.
- 22:51And like, and I've got a copy of her book.
- 22:53I'll actually give it to you and because I can get another one from her, you may enjoy
- 22:56it.
- 22:57But the one of the things that she was talking about when we were talking about this, this
- 23:03ex-plant was she was saying that when the body has a foreign substance and the immune system,
- 23:11the body is not going to get rid of an implant, right?
- 23:14Like, it can't expel that.
- 23:15It encapsulates it.
- 23:17Correct.
- 23:18One, it encapsulates it, which turns into scar tissue around that.
- 23:22So it still treats it like a foreign substance and tries to just put it in isolation.
- 23:26But when the immune system, which is really what's responding to that, loses the battle,
- 23:33which is not in effect what it's doing, right?
- 23:35It's losing.
- 23:36It's not able to expel that.
- 23:38One of the hypotheses was that the immune system actually stops fighting against submother
- 23:45battles because, well, we're not going to win this one.
- 23:47Well, what other battles are we not going to win?
- 23:50And it's like the immune system itself weakens.
- 23:53And the other thing that I would hypothesize on that is that, and this has come up a couple
- 23:58of times in the last few days, has been, your body only has so much energy.
- 24:04And the body knows how to allocate the energy to each system, right?
- 24:07The digestive system gets this much energy.
- 24:09And I always tell it's kind of like bandwidth on the Wi-Fi.
- 24:13Like you only have so much bandwidth, and if everyone in the house is streaming, you
- 24:18know, everyone's stream is going to start going slower, right?
- 24:21There's only so much bandwidth.
- 24:23And you know, specifically, we talk about it a lot in terms of, you know, oxidative stress
- 24:27from sympathetic nervous system and so on.
- 24:30But the reality is, is like, if your body is having to reallocate attention into dealing
- 24:37with this foreign intruder in the body, isn't it also true that it's pulling that energy
- 24:44from somewhere?
- 24:45Yeah.
- 24:46I mean, is that?
- 24:47Yeah, I mean, I see your theory there.
- 24:50I can see how, if one is overloaded, the other one's going to get overloaded, and then
- 24:58if the body's going to work slower, and you're going to be more susceptible to things,
- 25:02to catching, you know, illnesses or developing certain conditions.
- 25:07If your immune system is all focused on getting rid of the implants, it's probably not focused
- 25:11on all the other things that are attacking it on a regular basis, because it's going
- 25:14to go to the, to the biggest intruder, no pun intended.
- 25:17Yeah.
- 25:18It's true.
- 25:19It's true though.
- 25:20And that's way like for me, I'm so intentional like with what I eat, making sure I'm exercising,
- 25:25making sure like my lymphatic system again, it's like up to part, because until I don't
- 25:29rid myself of this issue, I'm susceptible to other things, and I know that.
- 25:34So I try to always be very mindful of all that.
- 25:38Well, it's when we're working hard, and we're not sleeping and all this kind of stuff,
- 25:41like we're forcing our energy to do other things, and then we end up getting sick.
- 25:48Well, why?
- 25:49Because we're making our, we're taking all the immune energy and focusing it elsewhere,
- 25:54and then leaving that system compromised, and that this is compromised your body.
- 26:00Now tell me this, like, okay, so I want to go back to the lymphatic system a little
- 26:03bit here, because it's all connected, all of it's connected.
- 26:08We talked about auto-immunes.
- 26:10We talked about what are the things that happen, the disease states, the complications
- 26:15that come from having a backed up immune system.
- 26:18We talked about, you know, foreign substances, and the form of implants, or seem to be
- 26:23explant, and how the body has to recover from that as well.
- 26:26And truthfully, that's, I would say, causes cellular trauma also.
- 26:31So there's cellular trauma now that also needs to, and I want to talk about that with you
- 26:37as well, because the lymphatic system is a very biological system, but the lymphatic system
- 26:44also has to deal with cellular trauma also.
- 26:49Start us there.
- 26:50Yeah, so believe it or not, when I treat my patients, I, I usually, depending on what
- 26:55I see and what I'm feeling, I incorporate raky into my sessions.
- 27:00I have level one and two raky practitioners, and it's, it's amazing, because they're like,
- 27:06what did you do?
- 27:07Like that was just not a regular massage, like whatever I was feeling, whatever heaviness
- 27:11I had when I came here, whatever stress, it's gone.
- 27:16Explain raky to anybody who may not know what that is.
- 27:18So raky is an energy healing.
- 27:20It's basically you use your, I use my hands and a technique to kind of just go over the
- 27:25person and just change, exchange energy with them and try to take away whatever troubles
- 27:31they're having at that moment.
- 27:33And I incorporate that with my treatments, with my lymphatic treatments.
- 27:36So I just feel like that just makes the lymphatic system work even faster.
- 27:41It's my theory, though.
- 27:42Don't quote me on that.
- 27:43No.
- 27:44I'll quote you on that.
- 27:45Like I don't, I don't disagree with you on that.
- 27:46Now, do you, do you find that in doing that, you said, you use the word energy exchange.
- 27:50So I'm using your words.
- 27:51So they have trauma.
- 27:54You believe you're exchanging, which by, I'm, I'm helping them.
- 27:56I'm not taking it.
- 27:57I'm going to say you said it.
- 27:58No, no.
- 27:59I shoot my son.
- 28:00No, no, no.
- 28:01I am so well protected.
- 28:02Like, so that's part of when you become a raky practitioner.
- 28:04They really teach you how to like shield your own energy.
- 28:07So you can do the healing, but you're not taking anything from it.
- 28:11Okay.
- 28:12Yeah.
- 28:13Yeah.
- 28:14You said the word exchange.
- 28:15I was like, wait, I want to go there real quick.
- 28:16And I agree with you.
- 28:17That's why I bring that up.
- 28:18Like you can biologically remove garbage.
- 28:22But we deal with psychological garbage and energy garbage and all this other kind of
- 28:27stuff that builds up as well.
- 28:28Now, let's talk about the, the actual biological elimination.
- 28:34What is it that people can be doing?
- 28:36And obviously going to see a lymphatic specialist like yourself makes complete sense.
- 28:40But yeah.
- 28:41But you live in Dallas.
- 28:42I live in Fort Lauderdale.
- 28:43I travel.
- 28:44I'm actually going to Malibu next month.
- 28:46Oh, well, I won't be in Malibu.
- 28:47Well, actually, we'll be in Malibu next month, and I'll be in Los Angeles, close enough.
- 28:52So here's my, here's my question to you, though, the, and I had surgery a few years ago.
- 28:57Okay.
- 28:58And it was probably the first time I'd ever paid attention to lymphatic range, because
- 29:01I never really paid attention to it.
- 29:02I'll be honest with you and tell you I didn't know a lot about it.
- 29:05And I'll tell you, I was a former fat kid.
- 29:08And I used to weigh a lot more than I knew.
- 29:10No way, really?
- 29:11Oh, totally.
- 29:12I used to weigh like 265 pounds and now it's terrible.
- 29:14I could show you pictures.
- 29:16It was just, it was growing up with terrible habits, like that kind of stuff.
- 29:21And it's like, when I started becoming really intentional, it actually became a thing
- 29:26that I'm like, okay, why do I want to be this person?
- 29:27But it ended up happening to point that I actually had loose skin around my abdomen.
- 29:31And I went and had an abdominal plastic.
- 29:32Okay.
- 29:33And for anybody who doesn't know what that is, that's actually the equivalent of what
- 29:35Tommy taught you.
- 29:36Tommy taught you.
- 29:37And I went and I'm like, no, I don't want this.
- 29:38And it was so funny because the surgeon who did it, he's amazing.
- 29:41And I have nearly zero scarring, but the surgeon who did it, it was, it was the funniest
- 29:46story to be honest with you, because I wanted to do it for simple vanity.
- 29:50And, you know, and he's like, you don't really need this and he's like, it's not that big
- 29:55of a deal.
- 29:56And he's just like, you're fine.
- 29:57And I'm like, no, this is what I want, you know, and I don't know.
- 30:01Maybe I'd make a different decision today just to not cause that trauma to my body, but
- 30:04I did whatever.
- 30:07And I'm happy with it.
- 30:09But at the same time, I didn't drain properly.
- 30:13Did you have massages done after the surgery?
- 30:15So I did.
- 30:16And, and after I had that surgery, I actually went in for lymphatic drainage massages and
- 30:21I had a few of them and I found a specific place that he recommended and of course I went
- 30:25and did it.
- 30:26Was it painful?
- 30:27No.
- 30:28So I'm actually part of a movement right now that it's called stop opening seasonal drainage.
- 30:34There's a lot of therapists that are getting certified with the school called Lux Beauty
- 30:38online.
- 30:39And it's a $150 course, no sort of medical training.
- 30:44I actually bought the course just to see what it was.
- 30:46And a lot of these girls are pushing fluids out their bodies.
- 30:48So they're re-opening incisions and just strictly just pushing the fluid out.
- 30:54And they're calling that lymphatic drainage.
- 30:56And that's actually something that only a nurse or a doctor can do and a nurse has to
- 31:00be under the scope of a doctor, even me as a CLT, as a full CLT.
- 31:05I cannot reopen wounds.
- 31:07I am certified in wound care and I can't treat wounds, but that's not lymphatic drainage.
- 31:12So that's why I asked if it was painful because I've had clients that come to me after seeing
- 31:17whoever their surgeons recommend and they're like, I am in so much pain that was so painful
- 31:22what you did was not painful at all.
- 31:24So that's the reason and behind that.
- 31:25Yeah, it was, it was no pain.
- 31:27And but I did exactly the number of sessions they told me to.
- 31:29And I was the guy who brought the dry brushes and I got the roller like you're a good client.
- 31:35If you even knew, like I actually laughed because I had this surgery on a Thursday and follow
- 31:42a visit on a Friday.
- 31:43And of course, I had to get home and I didn't come out of anesthetic well and I'm not a
- 31:47fan of anybody going under anesthesia voluntarily because this is like why I put yourself in
- 31:51that situation, I didn't come out of it easily.
- 31:55And that's a pretty invasive surgery, like that's really invasive.
- 31:59But they literally cut you open from side to side.
- 32:02Now the good news is the surgeon, he was like, Mark, like we opened you up and he goes,
- 32:06I wish everybody looked like you on the inside and he's just like, your muscle tone, everything
- 32:11is just so spot on and he's just like, you're the patient we want because you did the
- 32:16work.
- 32:17You know, and it's one of those things, he's just like, you're your muscle tone beneath
- 32:21this was amazing and he's like, you know, I'm going to bubble ball and it was, it was
- 32:25very complimentary, but you know, a friend of mine stayed at my, stayed at my house and
- 32:30made sure that I was taking care of for the next few hours and you know, next day or
- 32:33two actually.
- 32:35But that Friday night, like I went to a follow up visit in the doctor, this terrible
- 32:40story, but I was, he's like, okay, and so it was lean up against this whatever and he's
- 32:43like, I'm going to lower the table and he dropped the table.
- 32:47So like I went down on my back, I actually think I saw my soul actually leave for a couple
- 32:52of seconds.
- 32:54So not a good Friday, but I stopped taking pain meds, like I'm like, I'm not living on
- 32:58pain medication.
- 32:59Like that's not going to happen.
- 33:00I don't like pharma.
- 33:01Like I'm not going to take pain meds, like suck it up, buttercup, right?
- 33:07But then I literally was like, no, like I'm not going to live this way.
- 33:10Like I'm going to do what I have to do, but I started doing HBOT and I was doing red
- 33:15light therapy.
- 33:16I was doing, I mean, I was doing dermarolors with GHKCU peptides and like, oh, I was all
- 33:25over it.
- 33:26I was all over it.
- 33:27And I left because like I went back to the doctor, like even if it was just a couple
- 33:30minutes later, like I went back to the doctor's three days later for my follow up and you
- 33:34know, walked in, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:36Is this normal?
- 33:37And he looks at he goes, Mark, most patients are coming in here, hunched over and had
- 33:42you drove yourself to your follow up appointment three days later and haven't taken a pain
- 33:48med, you know, I drove myself on a Monday and he's like, you're walking, you know, straight
- 33:53up, erect, like he's like, this is amazing.
- 33:58And then a few weeks later, I would back for follow up and he's like, you're the only
- 34:00patient I've ever had who spent more money on after care than you did on the surgery.
- 34:04Like I may also be true, right?
- 34:06Hyperbarics, King of costly.
- 34:07Oh gosh.
- 34:08And it was amazing.
- 34:09I love it.
- 34:10And through hyperbarics, I think I ended up watching like the, you know, an entire season
- 34:14of, uh, but what's the, it's the Zoe, Dationel show, who's that girl or just Jess or whatever
- 34:21it was?
- 34:22I can't remember.
- 34:23Anyways.
- 34:24But, but the lymphatic drainage was something that I'd never really paid attention to and
- 34:29I started to fill up like I wasn't draining and he ended up having to leave the drains
- 34:33in longer than expected.
- 34:37And so on.
- 34:38I'm like, well, that's really interesting.
- 34:39Like I, I never really paid attention to that.
- 34:42Like what types of things should people be doing just for maintenance because it became
- 34:47acutely aware to me because of an acute issue, but it's made me very self conscious.
- 34:53The fact that I will still do those things now, even though I'm years post surgery, that's
- 34:58not the issue.
- 34:59But I will still, I keep a dry brush in my nightstand, like I will still, like even
- 35:03from in the shower, I will, I will massage down my stomach and stuff like what were
- 35:08those things?
- 35:09The best thing.
- 35:10And it's so simple.
- 35:11I like to make life because we're all busy, right?
- 35:13I know in the morning I'm getting my kids ready.
- 35:15I have to go.
- 35:16So I simplify my techniques and I tell my clients the same thing.
- 35:20Keep it simple.
- 35:21So you're successful.
- 35:22If I give you a whole list of things that's going to take you 20 minutes to do, you're
- 35:25never going to do it.
- 35:26I know my people.
- 35:28So the best thing to do is deep, deep, pragmatic breathing.
- 35:32That technique is the best because you're really activating the lymph nodes from the inside
- 35:37out in your abdomen and we have the galt in there and the small intestine.
- 35:40And that's all the lectials are a big, big part of the lymphatic system.
- 35:44So deep, deep, pragmatic breathing, what I recommend is taking nine deep breaths.
- 35:50You're going to inhale through your nose, but you really want to make sure if you want
- 35:54to do it with me, we can drink together.
- 35:56So you're going to go ahead and take a deep breath in through your nose, but press your
- 35:59hands right here while you're, while you're inhaling, I want you to really expand your
- 36:03belly out to make sure that your belly is really moving out and you're not just breathing
- 36:07from the top.
- 36:08So you want to inhale in.
- 36:10You see how my belly rises out?
- 36:13And then when you exhale out, you're going to exhale out through your nose.
- 36:15I mean, you're mouth nice and slow.
- 36:19And you can start palpating up here where we have nodes.
- 36:23You can do some palpitations there while you're exhaling and then you're going to do
- 36:27nine serious of those breaths.
- 36:29And you can do that in bed before you get out of bed.
- 36:33That's the way I start my morning.
- 36:35And I get up, I drink my lemon water, I dry skin brush, I tongue scrape, those are all
- 36:40big parts of it too.
- 36:41Tongue scraping too.
- 36:42I do that.
- 36:43I do that with like a copper scraper.
- 36:46What beautiful.
- 36:47So the dry skin brush is also very important that you open up the lymphatic system before
- 36:52you dry skin brushing because otherwise you're just brushing really great.
- 36:56So the idea is to do those 90 breaths.
- 36:59And then you're going to kind of pump your terminus area, your clavicle area, believe
- 37:02it or not, we have hundreds of lymph nodes in this area.
- 37:05This is one of our biggest, biggest drain points.
- 37:08So you want to kind of pump this area here, you'll go nine times.
- 37:12And then you're going to want to also pump here.
- 37:14And you can do it together like this, you're just kind of like, it's like a little pump
- 37:19here.
- 37:21So you'll kind of like, come on.
- 37:23So your massage therapist, let me know that you leave kind of like that.
- 37:28And then same thing here, it's a very, very gentle.
- 37:31Yeah, because the lymphatic system is so superficial that once we've activated it, you really
- 37:35don't need pressure.
- 37:36That's why when I'm seeing like girls online offering, I'm like, you're given Brazilian,
- 37:41which is more for sculpting, which I do with my athletes.
- 37:43I work with a lot of athletes as well.
- 37:46If they're going on stage, if you have a competition, if you have a date night,
- 37:50and you want to wear a good dress, that's a very completely different form of lymphatic
- 37:55drainage.
- 37:56But anyway, getting a...
- 37:57The synthetic drainage just doesn't look skinny or on a date.
- 37:59I've never heard that.
- 38:00Oh my God, yeah.
- 38:02Believe it or not, my husband, he was in a believer.
- 38:05And when I first started this whole thing, he was like, what are you doing?
- 38:09Why are you spending seven grand to get certified as a lymphodema therapist?
- 38:12I don't understand.
- 38:13And I'm like, it's okay.
- 38:14It'll make sense in the future, I promise.
- 38:17I want to say two years ago, he gained a little weight.
- 38:21And in one session, I brought him from a 36 to a 34.
- 38:27One session.
- 38:28I need this.
- 38:29I mean, I'm already a 34.
- 38:30But maybe you can take me to a 32.
- 38:31It just brings all the water out of you.
- 38:33It's amazing.
- 38:34He was like, babe, I'm sorry, I didn't believe you, babe.
- 38:38So deep breathing, you know, with obviously with the massage and the abdomen, then you
- 38:44want to pump down here, right?
- 38:45Because we have notes here, you want to pump here and then the belly button.
- 38:49So every time you exhale, you want to give yourself those little pumps.
- 38:53And then you mentioned the neck area down to the clavicle.
- 38:55The clavicle on your arms.
- 38:57And if you have time and to do it right, do your growing area, we have a lot of notes
- 39:02here.
- 39:03So you can pump the notes, you can pump behind the knee, you can pump by the elbows.
- 39:08There's also notes here.
- 39:09That way everything is open.
- 39:11And then you can dry skin brush.
- 39:13And it literally takes you.
- 39:14So I mean, my routine now, because I have it down to a science, it takes me seven minutes
- 39:18to do everything I need to do.
- 39:20And the dry skin brushing, now tell me, I was told that you should always dry skin brush
- 39:26in a specific direction.
- 39:27Correct.
- 39:28So I'm actually doing that towards the excretory system, correct?
- 39:32Like, so if I'm on my legs and knees, I'm going up, and if I'm on my arms, I'm going
- 39:36up.
- 39:37And if I'm on my chest, I'm going down.
- 39:39Well, the only time you really go down is this area here, right here.
- 39:43If I'm on my belly.
- 39:44If I'm on my belly.
- 39:45If I'm on my belly.
- 39:46Everything else is up, yeah.
- 39:47Yeah.
- 39:48The belly I'm going down to, though, right?
- 39:49So I'm going to center mass pelvic area.
- 39:50Correct.
- 39:51And you want to utilize these notes here as well.
- 39:53So you'll be using everything that you have here and internally as well.
- 39:57That's great.
- 39:58And it just, easily way to get rid of bloating, warmly.
- 40:00Oh my god, yeah.
- 40:01Everything.
- 40:02If you do that every day, your lymphatic system, and then you get on a rebounder or a vibration
- 40:06plate.
- 40:07I've got a power plate next to my head.
- 40:08Those couldn't work as well.
- 40:09You do your dry skin brushing.
- 40:11You do your deep breathing, dry skin brushing, pump everything, open everything before you
- 40:16dry skin brush.
- 40:17And then you get on your plate or your rebounder and go about your day.
- 40:21And that's the best way to go exercise afterwards.
- 40:23You're already pumping.
- 40:24The lymphatic system is open.
- 40:26So when you're in the gym, you're better in the morning.
- 40:28You're going to get your days just going to go even smoother.
- 40:31Like your workouts are going to be more efficient.
- 40:34That's crazy.
- 40:35And again, to the point that your lymphatic system doesn't move itself, like you have
- 40:40to activate it.
- 40:41Like you have to be in charge of getting rid of all that garbage.
- 40:43And what I like to teach my clients too, it's someone like you, like with a tummy tuck,
- 40:47when we last rate those lymphatic vessels through surgery, they don't connect again.
- 40:52So it's kind of like fluid just kind of in that area will stay stuck because they're
- 40:57not connected and nothing's really filtering or passing through the way it's supposed
- 41:01to.
- 41:02So it's important for you to use that dry skin brush and even manually massage around
- 41:07that area because the scar itself, it can be beautiful from the outside, but remember
- 41:11scars are deep and deep down, it can, it, there could not be good filtration in there.
- 41:16And that's why you might feel like maybe you have a little bit more bloated down here
- 41:19than you are up here.
- 41:20That's because that lymphatic area there is that.
- 41:22Do they ever reconnect?
- 41:25Really?
- 41:26Science hasn't gotten that far yet.
- 41:27But last I was, I was studying, they don't reconnect.
- 41:30See, my doctor said that because I continued, then I acted up getting really bad, like
- 41:35two months later, almost two months later, I felt like I just felt like I weighed 100 pounds
- 41:41extra because I just couldn't get rid of fluid and he's like, well, what are you doing?
- 41:45I'm like, well, you told me I could go back to the gym and he's like, wait, you're working
- 41:49out.
- 41:50And he's like, well, what are you doing at the gym?
- 41:51And I'm like, why do you hit training every day?
- 41:53And he's like, what?
- 41:54I'm like, well, you told me I could go back to the gym and he's like, yeah, like a treadmill
- 41:59when he's like, I wasn't saying you could, right, he's like, I wasn't suggesting you went
- 42:03back to hit training.
- 42:04I'm like, well, go bigger, go home, right, buddy?
- 42:06And I had it done in like December and mid February, I was back doing hit training.
- 42:12He's like, right.
- 42:13And he's like, so I'm suggesting you get on a treadmill.
- 42:15You're doing burpees.
- 42:16And he's like, are you joking right now?
- 42:18And I'm like, sorry, like, and he's like, you're not doing any permanent damage.
- 42:23And he's like, so don't worry about that.
- 42:24And he goes, but what's happening?
- 42:25And he goes, the blood vessels and lymphatic system in that area is starting to heal and
- 42:29then you're tearing it apart.
- 42:30And then it's starting to heal and then you're tearing it back apart.
- 42:32And he's just like, it'll eventually get to the point that it's healing.
- 42:35He's like, but you're just going to deal with that.
- 42:38I think he was talking more about the incision and the area itself.
- 42:41I frankly, from all the research I've done and all the study and I've done the lymphatic
- 42:45vessels don't reconnect.
- 42:47And that's why like most people later in life ends up kept ends later in life end up
- 42:52in lymphedema, like what happened with my mom, the scarring from the air from the
- 42:57mastectomy was an allowing proper drainage.
- 43:00So now my mom has to wear a sleeve every day.
- 43:03She lives in South Florida.
- 43:04She loves a beach.
- 43:05But when she goes to the beach the next day she suffers because the heat makes her, makes
- 43:10the collection of fluid worse for her.
- 43:12So now she knows what to do.
- 43:13She opens everything.
- 43:14She knows how to drain her arm herself, but it's still a process for her.
- 43:18It's something that she has to be mindful, especially like if she has too much wine or
- 43:22if she's out drinking like all of those things play a role with your lymphatic system years
- 43:27later.
- 43:28Like I had a gentleman that had a mosquito bite and got cellulitis and now he has full
- 43:33blown lymphedema of his legs because of a mosquito bite and cellulitis.
- 43:38Now you're making me worry.
- 43:39Like I should absolutely be paying more attention to this and I just, what I told you just
- 43:44bring it early, just every morning, make it hard on your head to learn, yeah, I'm glad
- 43:48I'm glad I can help.
- 43:49My gosh, that's a fantastic thing.
- 43:51Let me ask you now, you run a clinic?
- 43:53I have a small spa here in Dallas and the Northern Dallas.
- 43:56I had a full spa in South Florida.
- 43:58I had a clinic, but because I'm new to the area, I'm in the process of rebuilding my
- 44:01best of the area.
- 44:02Just build your building clientele here in Dallas and I had a lovely book there and I left
- 44:07to be.
- 44:09But taking new clients obviously, right?
- 44:11So trying to build that book of business, looking to get more clients in, what all services
- 44:15does a lymphatic specialist offer?
- 44:18So my techniques are different.
- 44:20I do your traditional lymphatic drainage.
- 44:23I do post-op care as well after surgeries and I do, I have an athlete recovery technique
- 44:29that I pat and it involves gastromylates, the metal blades, but it also involves lymphatic
- 44:35drainage into it and cupping and red light and a whole bunch of different things.
- 44:39So I get a lot of athletes because of that technique before they go on stage.
- 44:43I had a lady that she was trying to go pro and bikini and when she found me, she went
- 44:48pro at 40 the first time and she was like, you were my missing link.
- 44:52She's been trying since her 30s and couldn't get her pro-card.
- 44:55She finally got her pro-card.
- 44:57And it was all just based on my recovery technique and I would drain her like two days before
- 45:02she go on stage.
- 45:03So when she went on stage, she was dropped, just shredded.
- 45:06It was beautiful.
- 45:07I'm on stage like, I mean, another crowd like, yes, you go girl.
- 45:13And I think that's, you know, especially now, as it relates to women's health, is there
- 45:16something specific about lymphatic drainage that's different from men?
- 45:20Yeah, the reproductive system of it, believe it or not, a lot of the postpartum like
- 45:26after birth.
- 45:27It helps a lot with hormone balancing, it helps with milk production.
- 45:33So that differs with women, with the hormone aspect of it for sure.
- 45:37Now I told you I was going to tell you a funny story before we ended here on this.
- 45:40This is a very true story because you mentioned that a lot of your story came out of having
- 45:45a C-section, which same type of damage actually deeper than the damage I had.
- 45:51But that you're going to laugh because so when I was an undergrad, true story, I was trying
- 45:58to take a PR class and it was a 500 level course and I was told that as long as I stayed
- 46:03through the ad drop period and I was 20, nothing years old and that the instructor would sign
- 46:09me in.
- 46:10So the last day of registration, the instructor initialed my ad slip and so on and so forth.
- 46:16I got to the registrar's office 30 minutes before they closed to officially sign up for
- 46:21a class that I had already been sitting through for a week.
- 46:25Right?
- 46:26Registrar says, you're an undergrad, this is a 500 level course, we can't allow you in
- 46:30it.
- 46:31I'm like, oh my gosh.
- 46:32I've been sitting here.
- 46:33I've been in class the entire week.
- 46:34Like you told me I could do this.
- 46:35And of course, I'm like freaking out here because I needed a full course load, but I had
- 46:40no more time to get an instructor to initial me into the class to override me, which means
- 46:44I had to only be able to sign up for a class that was open and had availability and I had
- 46:5030 minutes to do this, right?
- 46:52So I'm like, oh, I need another class.
- 46:54I'll just have to start a week late and another class, like what class do I take, right?
- 46:58So I'm like, what do I do?
- 47:00What do I do?
- 47:01I go to university in Michigan and I'm like, okay, like what class is available?
- 47:06So I'm flipping through and there was an anthropology class that was available and I'm like, that's
- 47:10fine.
- 47:11I'll take this anthropology class.
- 47:12I had no idea what it was about, but it was, you know, anthro 365 or something.
- 47:16I was like, fine, getting an anthropology class.
- 47:19So I left from there because this was like class started at 6 p.m.
- 47:23I was, it was 5.30.
- 47:25I end up going to the bookstore and I'm like, I'm looking for the book and I can't find
- 47:30the book in the anthropology section.
- 47:32I'm like, so I go over and this was like back in the day before all the online crap, right?
- 47:36So I go up to the lady at the book counter and I'm like, anthropology 365, I can't find
- 47:40the book.
- 47:41The class starts in 10 minutes.
- 47:42I got to get to class.
- 47:43Where's this book?
- 47:44And she's like, are you sure you have that number, correct?
- 47:47Like, yeah.
- 47:49She's like, all right, and she's like, well, anthropology 365 is whatever the number was,
- 47:55is cross listed.
- 47:57The book you can find it over in women's studies and I'm like, I'm, what?
- 48:02And she says, well, the book's over in women's studies.
- 48:05You can find it there and I'm like, oh, sweet Jesus, you've got to be kidding me right
- 48:08now.
- 48:09So I laughed and I went over to the women's study section like, because this is my 12 credit
- 48:13hours.
- 48:14Like, I have to have a full course load.
- 48:16So I go over, I pick up the book.
- 48:17The title of the book was Narratives in Childbirth.
- 48:21Oh, my God.
- 48:22I'm like, what just happened here?
- 48:27So I'm like, okay, dial in.
- 48:30So paid for my book, got to class, walked in.
- 48:32To mind you, I'd missed a week's full of classes.
- 48:35And this entire room full of Ann Arbor women are in this class.
- 48:39And I mean, literally, it was like, you know, teacher with, you know, Harry underarms
- 48:44and all this other kind of stuff.
- 48:45And I walk into this room and the teacher stops her lecture because I was late and she
- 48:49goes, are you in the right class?
- 48:52I'm like, I think so.
- 48:55Is this Anthro 365?
- 48:57And she's like, yes, I'm like, yep, and she's like, oh, well, this is great.
- 49:04We have a man in the class and it was, it actually turned out to be a kind of a fun experience.
- 49:12But like, I learned everything there is to know about C sections because the instructor
- 49:17was a midwife.
- 49:19So I have watched water berths, watch C sections, and I mean, it birth in the squatting
- 49:26position was one of the movies we watched.
- 49:29And it was just like, almost a traumatic experience, but it was, it was so funny because
- 49:33I learned so much about the necessity of after birth removal and, and all of this kind
- 49:37of stuff and, and hospitals versus homes and so on.
- 49:41So I, when you told me a C section and lymphatic drainage and whatever, I'm like, yeah,
- 49:45this actually reminds me of a lecture in college.
- 49:47So yeah, that was my, that was my dumb joint at women's study.
- 49:50I'm glad you learned something.
- 49:52Absolutely.
- 49:53Do you have children?
- 49:54I do not.
- 49:55Well, it's not because I'm afraid.
- 49:59But yeah, totally.
- 50:00It was just like, what in the world?
- 50:01So yeah, dumb things happen in my world and I just play along most days.
- 50:05Hey, you did it with, with Gray so.
- 50:07That's amazing.
- 50:08I'm so excited.
- 50:09We got to talk about this and excited.
- 50:10I learned about how to do better lymphatic drainage.
- 50:13For anybody who wants to get a hold of Dore, particularly those who are in the Dallas area,
- 50:18I'm going to tell you to look in the show notes and we'll have links to her clinic also
- 50:22to all of her personal, personal social handles.
- 50:25I am assuming that you are building a social network in which people can actually follow
- 50:28and learn about all this stuff on your Instagram.
- 50:31I'm sure Tiktok, whatever.
- 50:32Yes, yes.
- 50:33We'll get all of that information.
- 50:34Perfect.
- 50:35Yeah.
- 50:36Robust wholeness.
- 50:37Thank you.
- 50:38Robust wholeness.
- 50:39Yes.
- 50:40And that'll just help, you know, help your social engagement.
- 50:41Thank you so much.
- 50:43And next time if you have more time, I love to treat you to a session so you can feel
- 50:46it.
- 50:47I'm just going to go get a go to work out in and then let me give you an athlete recovery
- 50:51lymphatic drainage.
- 50:52You're going to, it's going to change your world.
- 50:54You're going to be flying a CV.
- 50:55I promised.
- 50:56That would be amazing.
- 50:57Well, I actually, I'm not confident.
- 50:58I actually get to Dallas pretty often.
- 51:00So I'm going to take you up on that.
- 51:01Let's do it.
- 51:02Oh, you better believe it.
- 51:03My treat.
- 51:04That's awesome.
- 51:05Guys, thank you for joining us here with Dorey Riker and I hope you've learned something
- 51:08because I sure have and that's the goal of the show, right?
- 51:11Thank you so much for tuning in and Dorey, thank you so much for being here.
- 51:13Thank you guys.
- 51:14Thank you for having me, Mark.
