- 0:00Speaker 1: The ex pole.
- 0:00Speaker 2: No, but it should be.
- 0:04Speaker 1: So tomorrow.
- 0:06Speaker 3: I take Mohammed, my son, not the prophet to move
- 0:11Speaker 3: into the dorms. And I've been talking with a lot
- 0:15Speaker 3: of my friends who are doing the same thing, And
- 0:18Speaker 3: my algorithm is full of moms and dads dropping their.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Kids off at school, even just this morning.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Well, I'm looking for your empty nest stories, whether you're
- 0:33Speaker 3: dropping kids off this year, or you have a story
- 0:36Speaker 3: about dropping them off in the past, how it felt.
- 0:39Speaker 1: When you did that, how you're doing now.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I go, why don't you just keep them at home?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Why don't you keep them at home?
- 0:46Speaker 4: Why don't you just keep them at home? No, they're
- 0:48Speaker 4: not going out of state to school. They're just there.
- 0:50Speaker 4: They're they're five minutes away.
- 0:52Speaker 3: They want the experience of living in the dorms. They
- 0:55Speaker 3: want the experience of just being watching into the world.
- 0:59Speaker 3: And actually, a friend of mine posted she just took
- 1:02Speaker 3: her son to Old Miss and she said, I'm not
- 1:06Speaker 3: an empty nester.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm a bird launcher.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And I like that bird sounds nice.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Empty nests sounds like a sad way to put it.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well, launch the egg is rotten and you kick it
- 1:17Speaker 2: out of them.
- 1:18Speaker 1: But I saw this from Cheryl crow This morning.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Cheryl Crowe said, I can't believe I just took this
- 1:26Speaker 3: baby to college.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Where does time go?
- 1:27Speaker 3: She posted a picture of her and her son Wyatt
- 1:30Speaker 3: dropping him off at college. Lots of celebrities like us,
- 1:36Speaker 3: they have celebrities have kids going to school. A Giata
- 1:39Speaker 3: di laurentis dropping her daughter Jade off at New.
- 1:42Speaker 2: York University, so they are so like us.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Kevin Hart's son he dropping him off at at University
- 1:48Speaker 3: of Tennessee. Jessica Alba, her daughter's going to Yale, she's
- 1:54Speaker 3: dropping her.
- 1:55Speaker 4: I never I wouldn't have thought that some of those
- 1:58Speaker 4: those celebrities had kids smart enough to go to school.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Alex Rodriguez dropped his daughter Ella off at University of
- 2:04Speaker 3: North Carolina Chapel Hill. So I just I want to
- 2:10Speaker 3: hear from people that are going through this now.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We got a text.
- 2:13Speaker 3: From William William says, I thought I was looking forward
- 2:18Speaker 3: to being an empty nester, but my youngest child moved
- 2:20Speaker 3: out yesterday and I'm just sad. No, I'm I'm sad
- 2:27Speaker 3: because I enjoy Mohammed's company.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And you just won't ever see him now.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I mean, it's gonna be different. There's there's no way
- 2:38Speaker 1: it's not.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Isn't he gone most of the time anyway?
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:43Speaker 4: Really he comes into the house for five minutes and says, hey,
- 2:47Speaker 4: I gotta go.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but I still get to see him in that
- 2:50Speaker 1: In that.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Way, my mom bird launched my ass out the door
- 2:55Speaker 5: at eighteen, Gina, no school, get a bird job and
- 2:59Speaker 5: enjoy the bird war old.
- 3:01Speaker 3: I mean, and this, yeah, this doesn't have to be
- 3:03Speaker 3: about going to college necessarily.
- 3:04Speaker 5: But yeah, but kids, kids moving, it's moving out.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Because so so when Festus, my oldest, moved out, Uh,
- 3:13Speaker 3: we were all on a camping trip and he had
- 3:16Speaker 3: to work, so he was he was at home and
- 3:19Speaker 3: he called me and he said, oh, by the way,
- 3:21Speaker 3: I'm moving out this weekend while we were gone. So
- 3:24Speaker 3: I wasn't even around for him moving out, so I didn't.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I didn't have time to get sad.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Seems rather abrupt.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he just didn't want to get caught.
- 3:33Speaker 3: He found an apartment and and he moved out when
- 3:37Speaker 3: he was eighteen, and he's not been back since jonesy
- 3:42Speaker 3: uh two years ago. Moved out, went to the dorms.
- 3:45Speaker 3: But this, this is this is different, because this is
- 3:48Speaker 3: my last one.
- 3:50Speaker 2: What does it tell you that they all want to
- 3:51Speaker 2: move out?
- 3:52Speaker 1: I want them to move out.
- 3:54Speaker 5: I was happy to take my son to college because
- 3:57Speaker 5: it was in a different state, and I didn't want
- 3:59Speaker 5: him to think that every state was like Utah. My
- 4:03Speaker 5: son left for the Army. I don't hear the fridge
- 4:06Speaker 5: opening in the middle of the night. It's weird, Gina.
- 4:11Speaker 5: He'll come home to eat dinner, you know.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So Joe and I have asked Jonesy and Mohammed if
- 4:20Speaker 3: they would come home for dinner once a month, like
- 4:24Speaker 3: one Sunday dinner.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Oh do we have dude? All right?
- 4:28Speaker 5: Hey, Arlo, Gumby, how do you get them the hell out?
- 4:33Speaker 2: Still? Got one at home?
- 4:34Speaker 5: We'll got one at home, Gumby.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Jill is here?
- 4:37Speaker 6: Hello, Chill, Hi Jill, Hey sorry, let me can talk
- 4:41Speaker 6: me redo. I was just going to say, it's the
- 4:44Speaker 6: reason why you get sort of pressed when the kids
- 4:46Speaker 6: move out of home, or at least I think so,
- 4:48Speaker 6: it's kind of a loss of identity. You've been full
- 4:51Speaker 6: time mom and taking care of them and watching their
- 4:53Speaker 6: everyday progress, and then all of a sudden you don't
- 4:56Speaker 6: have that anymore. So I learned that the best thing
- 4:58Speaker 6: to do is get a new home or a new
- 5:01Speaker 6: job to take up that time that you were using
- 5:03Speaker 6: as your job taking care of the kids.
- 5:06Speaker 4: How about taking a foster child, get some foster children, yeah, yeah,
- 5:11Speaker 4: or animals.
- 5:12Speaker 1: But yeah, it's true. I became what'd you do?
- 5:16Speaker 7: I take on professional groomer and gardener?
- 5:18Speaker 3: Oh wow, okay, yeah, you're because your life is so
- 5:22Speaker 3: wrapped around their schedule and what they're doing, and suddenly
- 5:27Speaker 3: that's not there.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Now you have time for yourself. That'd be nice, thanks, Jill.
- 5:34Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, have a good one.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah. I think Jill gives some good advice.
- 5:38Speaker 5: You know, maybe you could stick around after ten am.
- 5:42Speaker 2: And help out with the show. Maybe you could. Yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 2: you're not going to have to go home and do
- 5:47Speaker 2: anything with the kids, right, A few things, you know.
- 5:50Speaker 5: I yeah, I couldn't listen for a few months. All
- 5:54Speaker 5: of a sudden, Mohammed is out of the house too.
- 5:57Speaker 1: He will be tomorrow.
- 5:59Speaker 2: He's home today. Let's go to Molly Mormon. Hello, I'm Molly.
- 6:04Speaker 8: Well, well, hello my friends. I'm in the same boat
- 6:07Speaker 8: as Gina because our youngest are the same, are the
- 6:10Speaker 8: same age. I've actually got one of my adult kids
- 6:12Speaker 8: calling me, right now, goodness, gracious, I actually just wrote
- 6:17Speaker 8: out a bunch of a bunch of.
- 6:19Speaker 9: My thoughts about this.
- 6:21Speaker 8: I hear a lot of people right now saying, oh
- 6:23Speaker 8: my gosh, I can't believe it, and I'm like, I
- 6:25Speaker 8: absolutely believe it.
- 6:27Speaker 7: We did this thing for over.
- 6:28Speaker 8: Twenty years, all the things. I believe it.
- 6:32Speaker 1: It's time here we are.
- 6:34Speaker 8: Yes, yes, thank you, and so like, let's just be
- 6:37Speaker 8: present about that. And I mean, I've actually been an
- 6:40Speaker 8: empty nester half the time for over a decade because
- 6:43Speaker 8: I share my kids with their dad. But it is different,
- 6:47Speaker 8: and it's just it's really interesting because I found that
- 6:51Speaker 8: as they're getting older, when people would say how are
- 6:54Speaker 8: you doing, I would identify myself with what's going on
- 6:56Speaker 8: with my kids. So now I'm like, well, well who cares.
- 7:01Speaker 8: I have to see what what is actually up with me?
- 7:03Speaker 8: How I actually, Ah, so it's been it's been really
- 7:06Speaker 8: interesting that way.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Well, good luck, mom, I'm with you.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I'm with you on it.
- 7:12Speaker 2: There you go.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But you're right, this is what's supposed to happen, and
- 7:15Speaker 1: it feels good. It's just it's a it's it's.
- 7:18Speaker 2: A change for sure.
- 7:19Speaker 10: All right.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks a lot, thank you.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Thanks I self launched at seventeen because I couldn't stand
- 7:25Speaker 5: it any longer. At home, my youngest used to tell
- 7:28Speaker 5: me she'd never leave home because she would miss watching
- 7:31Speaker 5: me sleep.
- 7:32Speaker 2: That's a little weird.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 5: I eventually snuck in and took photos.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Anyway, ohright, empty nest syndrome. Kids leaving home or maybe
- 7:43Speaker 4: kids coming back from home. What do you have to
- 7:47Speaker 4: say about that? Eight seven seven six h two nine
- 7:51Speaker 4: six nine six is.
- 7:51Speaker 5: The number, and this is the one that I keep
- 7:54Speaker 5: hearing my nieces and nephews. I'm trying to self launch,
- 7:56Speaker 5: but it's hard with everything being so expensive.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty hard to get out.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Let's see our attorney, Ed Brass weighing in. We took
- 8:05Speaker 5: one daughter to Ohio State and one son to Arizona State,
- 8:09Speaker 5: and somehow they both managed to find their way home.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Someone says I helped my oldest moved out. She moved
- 8:18Speaker 3: back a year later. My college kids don't want to
- 8:20Speaker 3: pay rent when my house is free.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's a lot of that, a.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Lot of that going around. Let's see.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Somebody says I started listening to radio from Hell a
- 8:29Speaker 3: year before Gina announced she was pregnant with Muhammed. That's
- 8:31Speaker 3: how I track how long I've been listening. You've been
- 8:35Speaker 3: listening about nineteen years.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Empty nester, more like revolving door. I have three boys,
- 8:42Speaker 5: and the older two have moved in and out several
- 8:45Speaker 5: times in the last six years. Their older sister moved
- 8:48Speaker 5: out and stayed out. I wish the boys would follow
- 8:51Speaker 5: her example, because I have whiplash. Boys are harder to
- 8:54Speaker 5: raise than girls.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Well, when my youngest son moved out a while, we
- 9:01Speaker 4: got some nails and some blood, and we nailed his
- 9:05Speaker 4: bedroom door shut so that it can not access, not welcome.
- 9:11Speaker 5: I'm having another young adulthood. I got pregnant and married
- 9:13Speaker 5: at eighteen.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Now both my kids have moved out.
- 9:16Speaker 5: It's party time, staying up late, eating when, I yeah, when,
- 9:20Speaker 5: and what I want. It's glorious, Absolutely super proud of kids.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You deserve it. Both are at university.
- 9:27Speaker 5: We say, cross your fingers so that they don't have
- 9:29Speaker 5: to move back. So far, so good.
- 9:34Speaker 2: I'm housebroken, Gina.
- 9:35Speaker 5: I could take this his old room.
- 9:40Speaker 3: I can't wait to experience the feeling of sending my son.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Off to college.
- 9:44Speaker 3: That sounds like a powerful memory.
- 9:47Speaker 2: All right, let's go to Lisa. Hello, Lisa. Lisa. Oh, Lisa,
- 9:55Speaker 2: it's not Hi.
- 9:56Speaker 9: Go ahead, Hello, Hello.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Lisa, We're here. We're here, Lisa.
- 10:03Speaker 7: No, I can't hear you.
- 10:05Speaker 9: Sorry my phone.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Okay, I think it's Lisa's phone. I think it's Lisa's phone.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Eight.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Let's go to ramone, Hey, ramone, Hello, Lord.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Hello.
- 10:18Speaker 10: I have a few samples and Gina, I'm sorry about
- 10:21Speaker 10: last time mentioning about the empty nesters. You know, kids
- 10:27Speaker 10: graduating from high school. That's okay, Yeah, so I have
- 10:32Speaker 10: we have three, three samples, my wife and I I'm
- 10:35Speaker 10: actually uh, Sailor Swift. It's also my daughter. Oh okay, yeah, yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 10: so we we we have three kids that graduated in
- 10:45Speaker 10: the last four years. And uh it's been hard for
- 10:48Speaker 10: my wife. Yeah. Yeah, the oldest still lives with us,
- 10:53Speaker 10: but Sailor Swift, she's been out of the house for
- 10:56Speaker 10: almost two years now. And uh, she actually had to
- 11:00Speaker 10: go see her off, you know, when she was in
- 11:03Speaker 10: Chicago when she graduated, and then she was moved over
- 11:07Speaker 10: to Virginia where she was actually shipped off.
- 11:10Speaker 9: Yeah, so she had to go see her off also.
- 11:14Speaker 10: And you know, just a couple of weeks ago, our
- 11:18Speaker 10: our youngest daughter, she moved into UVU.
- 11:23Speaker 3: So you're going through this in all different kinds of ways,
- 11:26Speaker 3: going for military saying goodbye and college saying goodbye.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And well, you said it's rough on your wife, how
- 11:32Speaker 2: about you.
- 11:35Speaker 10: I'm actually I have your attitude. Bill.
- 11:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm fine with it.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:41Speaker 10: My wife she's hard at the hardest. Yeah, he actually
- 11:44Speaker 10: has so. Yeah, I understand what empty nesters are going through.
- 11:50Speaker 7: Now.
- 11:50Speaker 10: We have two kids in high school and a junior
- 11:52Speaker 10: high school the schooler.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's different when you still have kids
- 11:56Speaker 1: at home.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Like I said, I've said goodbye to two other but
- 12:00Speaker 3: the last one is different because now I have no
- 12:02Speaker 3: one to parent anymore.
- 12:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 12:04Speaker 4: You know, Ramon, I don't want to be critical, but
- 12:06Speaker 4: I think part of your problem is you just have
- 12:08Speaker 4: too many children exactly.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I'm probably and you kept naming them, you're going to
- 12:14Speaker 2: run out. Yeah, if you name them, they'll stick around,
- 12:18Speaker 2: all right.
- 12:18Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 12:19Speaker 2: Thanks, thank you. Go to Corey from the chat room.
- 12:23Speaker 7: Hey, Corey hay Gang. Yeah, we're empty nesters a couple
- 12:27Speaker 7: of years now. My Brazilian wife did not take that. Well.
- 12:32Speaker 7: His family is huge and you've met our daughters, you
- 12:35Speaker 7: know how amazing they are.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Yeah, they're lovely.
- 12:39Speaker 7: I did okay with it, but there's I just love
- 12:42Speaker 7: hanging out with them, and so that's the part I
- 12:44Speaker 7: missed the most, was just having them being around and
- 12:47Speaker 7: seeing the adults that they are and how funny and.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Great they are. The worst thing, go ahead, no, you continue.
- 12:56Speaker 7: The worst thing for us was when Connory got into
- 13:00Speaker 7: a school. We drove her across country to the University
- 13:02Speaker 7: of New England and Portland, Maine and leading her there
- 13:06Speaker 7: even though she was married, Like that was just a
- 13:08Speaker 7: gut punch.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that was rough, but she's come back right.
- 13:13Speaker 7: Yeah, they live in They live thirty minutes away and
- 13:16Speaker 7: we see them often and I just they're amazing, love them.
- 13:20Speaker 7: But yeah, it wouldn't work out if they were living
- 13:23Speaker 7: with us.
- 13:24Speaker 3: I'm looking forward to enjoying my kids as adults in
- 13:27Speaker 3: different ways.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Well let's yeah, you can drink with them.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Well, you know, if those kids would go ahead and
- 13:34Speaker 5: make you some grand babies, you'd have something to do,
- 13:37Speaker 5: you know.
- 13:38Speaker 7: Oh, Ian, no hurry for that.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Honestly, my father would say, all right, thanks, Cory, thank.
- 13:45Speaker 2: You, Corey.
- 13:46Speaker 7: Yeah, bye, all right, let's go to Lisa.
- 13:48Speaker 5: Hello, Lisa, Hello, I lost you before.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Sorry, that's okay, you're back.
- 13:55Speaker 9: Thanks, thanks for having me on. I was calling my
- 13:58Speaker 9: I'm an empty master as a little over a year now,
- 14:02Speaker 9: my little guy, my young man, went to the Navy,
- 14:06Speaker 9: so I'm learning how to get my hobbies back.
- 14:09Speaker 1: What what have you started doing.
- 14:13Speaker 9: Well, I'm starting a pottery class and I have been
- 14:17Speaker 9: doing some mosaics. Okay, nice, Oh that's been kind of fun.
- 14:23Speaker 9: But I have to admit though it's kind of expensive.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Kids are expensive, though they are well, you know what
- 14:32Speaker 4: you can you know what you can also do.
- 14:34Speaker 2: You can walk around the house naked more often.
- 14:38Speaker 7: That is true.
- 14:39Speaker 9: That is true. Lows all the curtains and there you go.
- 14:42Speaker 9: You got more freedom. I only have the one, so
- 14:44Speaker 9: I'm just lucky that way.
- 14:46Speaker 2: All right, all right, thanks, I'm glad you got through it.
- 14:49Speaker 5: And let's see. We're driving our son to Suu and
- 14:53Speaker 5: Cedar City on Saturday.
- 14:55Speaker 2: He is our only child.
- 14:57Speaker 5: Feeling sad but excited to see him what he comes
- 15:00Speaker 5: as an adult. Isn't Mohammed going to be bringing you
- 15:04Speaker 5: laundry every week?
- 15:05Speaker 6: No?
- 15:07Speaker 2: Is that part of the deal.
- 15:08Speaker 1: They have laundry there, do it.
- 15:10Speaker 4: At the dorms. It's the really good, nice dorm. They
- 15:13Speaker 4: have people that do the long wrap it up in
- 15:17Speaker 4: little brown wrappers and tie it.
- 15:22Speaker 6: All.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Right then, so it is what what you'll find too, though,
- 15:26Speaker 4: I mean, since since Little Bill moved out, when he
- 15:30Speaker 4: comes over, it's nice to see.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Him, you know, it's kind of different. Yeah, like, oh, you,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I haven't seen you in a while. You do family dinner,
- 15:40Speaker 1: he'll come over for.
- 15:40Speaker 4: Dinner and yeah, like just as I was going to
- 15:43Speaker 4: bed last night, he came over after he was done
- 15:46Speaker 4: at work and had finished up the dinner that we'd had.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Yeah, well, so tomorrow I'm gonna leave straight from here
- 15:57Speaker 3: and go go move him in.
- 15:59Speaker 5: So right, our youngest just started college. Luckily for us,
- 16:03Speaker 5: he's just twenty minutes down the road. Our middle kid
- 16:06Speaker 5: just got back from a mission. Dropping him off, knowing
- 16:09Speaker 5: we wouldn't see him for two years.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Was really tough.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really hard.
- 16:14Speaker 7: Uh.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Yeah, And Ivy says, I think I'd rather be an
- 16:16Speaker 5: empty nester than this. All right, there you go, before
- 16:23Speaker 5: the kids leave, read the book I Love You forever,
- 16:26Speaker 5: like for always, for as long as I'm living.
- 16:29Speaker 3: My baby, you'll be yeah, is that?
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah? We've read that? Okay, all right, I was like,
- 16:36Speaker 2: you're all prepared.
