Sire Ratings Decoded: What Dad Tells You About a Horse's Chances
This episode explains what sire ratings are and how they summarize a stallion's offspring performance by surface, distance, class, and conditions. It shows when and why pedigree can be a useful clue—especially for first-time starters, surface or distance changes, and lightly raced horses.
Practical takeaways: treat sire ratings as a tiebreaker or missing-data patch, pay attention to sample size and what the rating measures, and always weigh the pedigree signal against pace, form, trainer, and the betting price.
