- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Hello and welcome back to the Pretty Little Podcast.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: We're your hosts.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Phoebe and my name is Caroline and today You guys, we are here with the amazing author of Pretty Little Liars creator of our world Sarah Shepard.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for coming back again today Sarah
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh, we are so excited because like we're talking about it in the last time that we thought to sit down and talk with you.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: We were talking nowhere like home for some of our book club and it was not really like we talked about pretty little liars because how could we not but it wasn't super focused on that and I hadn't finished to show yet.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so it was at a time when I was convinced Mona was dead, and Phoebe was like working really hard to make me believe that Mona was actually dead And Sarah, you were like, well, just remember like she's in the perfectionist Because I just wanted her to be alive so bad She does such many times, like her analysis Just like, I mean, it's hard to keep that up every time
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, or actually in your coffee.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Ali literally being a buried alive, like putting it just... And it's like what was in the coffee?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's certainly awesome.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_04]: And, like, how many different, like, imprisonments can these poor characters?
- 1:30[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I forgot not to jump right into this episode.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I've been many years since I saw this,
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: It's, you were watching for the first time, so I watched it, um, you know, when it went at air, which was what's 2017 and, um,
- 1:51[SPEAKER_04]: I had forgotten that like so people are locked up yet again.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Well at the beginning scene, I mean, when we get, because there's also the time jump, right?
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's a year right.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like some stuff has kind of gone down since, you know, season seven, episode 19 and 20.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: And there's the amazing opening scene where they're in the snow glow, but you don't know.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like,
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, like there's something weird about Jenna and I know that there's a lot of hot they are, but it's snowing and like somebody like tap dancing was another beginning.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Lucas.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: Lucas shows up in a white tuxedo taping and I'm like, hey, Lucas, and they're like, you can't jump another day.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was watching, I was like, wait, what am I watching and then when it zooms out and it's Mona and well be with the snow globe, I was like, oh, I'm sorry, they're not giving Mona a snow globe and that, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 3:00[SPEAKER_04]: 19 and 20, I was sorry.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: So we had done, I think season seven starts in an initial time jump of like five years.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely good.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then we kind of wrap up their lives episode 19 and I think they've won the board game that AD had been giving them and they think that it was
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Moana gets locked up because she admitted to killing C.C.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: and like we're kind of tying all this up.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: So they, and then Mary Drake is in jail now for our church murder, which Mary is sure to throw back in the Spencer's face as soon as she can.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: And then so at the start of the finale,
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: One year.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've seen right now in a while because of time.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was 19 started.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_04]: It seemed like 20 started it.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, I look 20 feels like two episodes also.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I now these got bangs now.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: So it's definitely sometimes.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: All right, very true.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_04]: Very true.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, everybody's reuniting and
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: Are we getting married?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Mona's out of well-being.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: She's like going to be rehabilitated.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: So it's such a crazy finale.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: I did love the way it ended.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll get into some of this stuff in a minute.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: But we were curious like when the last time you had seen it.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: So the last time you watched the finale was when it came out.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, God, I've been watching the show.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: like live the whole time or you kind of going in an hour or did you decide did you put it down for a while and then been like well watch the finale.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_04]: Oh no, no, no, I watch it was like kind of my job to watch it.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_04]: I bet um, because it was back in the day when it shows you couldn't stream something like it just they just like.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody sat down.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, those days.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_04]: But no, but so everybody was sitting down on Tuesday nights.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_04]: And I had gotten in the habit really early of when the show came out of them.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't know about it.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_04]: And that was such a massive, like, like, Twitter, these days, like, at the time, that was like, it was live, tweeting.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_04]: So I would live, react.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_04]: And it means he's like a huge thing, not because of me, but because of, like, well, that's how people watch TV, yes.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_04]: And you were in this community and then you would repost, and then you would, you know, like there were hashtags to follow, whatever.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: And at a certain point, the pretty little layers
- 5:36[SPEAKER_04]: had like a big room at the Warner studio or like a building really close to there, where a group of like people that weren't on the show would sit there and just like watch the show live, but also like be the little wow.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god, so I watched it live, but this is why I need to watch the whole season or the whole series again because I was so busy looking at my phone and then looking at this like I missed so much.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_04]: I missed so many good details.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_04]: Like some of the actors, I'm like, I don't remember that.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I feel like when I went out of the door.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: I'm not sure of that.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just so much hurt.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, yeah.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know, and it's interesting because we, so Phoebe and I were noticing when we were watching, and that is one thing about, like, especially for Phoebe doing this recap, we really,
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like I feel like they're probably some recap podcasts that don't go like actually second for second and like break down every eyebrow movement of the character we like got so in the weeds with this that they're really pages and stuff like watch it to watch so much episodes we're like writing what everything and so I can totally imagine that and in this episode when Arya has her wedding dress reveal.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we thought it was weird.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Also that none of the girl.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: There was no like really exciting for the wedding girls.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're like, hi, and Hannah goes hashtag Arya's wedding dress.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, first of all, not a Hannah thing to say about a wedding, because you Roger really got time.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_04]: Probably was I must have been I'm not at the tweets that they were Oh, wait, you guys didn't watch it live So Baby did you I didn't Caroline didn't know In the later seasons they would have the little hash tag How she was a yeah, yes, oh my god, I remember they have a little themed
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, it was the best thing.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was in like I don't remember when this happened, but whenever we thought Ezra was a when Ezra Like very Ravenswood and we see Ezra come in here like hits the covered really hard and he's like so angry that they found him out And the hashtag that episode has hashtag Ezra with a capital A, but I was out of town for that episode and you're right Like you had to watch it live or you missed it.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: Are you really so yeah
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: I, my friends still had their watch party that night, and I went on Instagram, and I saw all of their posts, and their views, and the captions were just hashtag Ezra with the capital A. Oh my god.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, no, what have I missed?
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: Last I heard Ezra was doing great.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I was thrilled about it as a 14 year old.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_04]: That's crazy.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: That was a weird path for them to go down and then to kind of to do the hat and then be like they were hoping to get married that's what I like and we'll talk about that too because I want to revisit the like 15-year interview that they did where they sort of discussed the Asria phenomenon and we'll dive into that but it is like
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they want us to forget this and it's like you told us way too much and you did way too much bad stuff with him And that went for me to like you'll comfortable with them moving forward ever like like I need to see the therapy happen before I could ever get on board with this
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: yeah um around at the time of the finale like what did your involvement look like throughout this show like towards the beginning I know you were probably pretty heavily consulted I would assume and then did that kind of what did that look like as things went on because obviously they decided to kind of sort of branch off like after Ian dies right that's sort of where they
- 9:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but strangely, there was a huge twin reveal.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_04]: That's Courtney and Allison.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_04]: It kind of came around right by this episode.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_04]: And this was like the very last one.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I didn't know this was happening.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_04]: And I was like, oh my god, they actually didn't.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, and then I was really it.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_04]: Like I was super into it.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_04]: So they picked, they, it was a pick and choose kind of this is really.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_04]: where I think they read all of them or they read a good deal of them at least the first eight.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_04]: Although actually I think I swear, no I don't think my team wasn't called the 18.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_04]: I forget what my team was called.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_04]: But you know like Ali did work with somebody.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_04]: They used what they wanted from the books and it was, I was like that.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_04]: Even in the beginning though, I really, they just, they, they used the books and kind of took it in their own their own direction.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_04]: And I, I was not really consulted, although I was on really good terms with everybody in the show.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_04]: And I made it a point to go out there.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_04]: a couple times a year while they were filming, not to be like, what are you doing?
- 10:54[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_04]: It was the best, you know?
- 11:01[SPEAKER_04]: And just to sit on the side, and I didn't get a lot of scripts.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_04]: I probably could have.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_04]: What he is with.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_04]: that the next verb, the original sin, like sent them all to me way ahead of time.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's like, which is, I'm like, chair, I read these, but pretty little like there was no show.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't, I didn't see them ahead of time.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_04]: I think there was like maybe one I saw ahead of time, but I don't remember why.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_04]: In fact,
- 11:28[SPEAKER_04]: I was getting with the whole like CC reveal.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't know that was going to be the answer and I was like tweeting or something or writing some kind of posts somewhere about some very close approximations like it was pretty close.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_04]: My theory was like, yes, but it was
- 11:49[SPEAKER_04]: It was like close enough where they actually said, can you please take that down?
- 11:53[SPEAKER_04]: Like you're going to think there are people who are going to think that you knew and that you're spoiling it and that you're not going to say, oh, you're like, we're going to be out of my dead now considering I created this world, but I was surprised.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_04]: And that's yeah, I mean, so so I don't even remember the beginning of this question, but like, yeah, no, I watched them.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_04]: I think I'm pretty sure I watched them all.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_04]: Like what?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: A few?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: I had to watch.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_04]: Like one time I had food poisoning and it was over here.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my gosh, the hotdog isn't even zero.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_04]: But I'm like, I have to watch for a little fire.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, I have to keep all the nurses are coming in there.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like we don't normally get to watch this on our ship.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is for like, early.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_04]: That's so funny.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, CT scan, I'm like, no.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know time.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_03]: Come on.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_03]: Great.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_04]: And it was like a bit.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: It was an important episode because it was the Mona.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_04]: I think one of my, that's one of the best episodes that was pretty close to the books I feel right a lot of a lot of the early ones were pretty close to the books.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it was really fun.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: And then it went on this we're this weird convalued journey.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that is so fun with you tweeted like pretty close because first of all it's like how could anyone guess anything that was gonna happen But like your brain was so wired for that.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_04]: I remember what it was.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_04]: I could probably it's funny because I was looking I think I kept I've kept a lot of emails Yeah, I was looking for something else and I was like oh my god.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_04]: It was like 2005 or something like I'd love to know what I like exactly what I said
- 13:37[SPEAKER_04]: There have been a couple times where they were like, just be quiet, please.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_04]: The other one was early when the show came up.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: I think I talked about this last maybe the last time what was on was, was,
- 13:50[SPEAKER_04]: I expressed my, like how I didn't exactly approve of Ariad as you're being a couple.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_04]: Mm.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_04]: We were going to talk a lot about this.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, it's not in my books.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: I just want you to know.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_04]: Like, they're not coming here.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_04]: And then like, we realized that it's wrong.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_04]: And then they wrote, and then I got a call from,
- 14:16[SPEAKER_04]: I think my agent and she's like you can't be out there saying that you're like about the book I wrote right on the show was coming out or maybe wasn't even my agent it might have been like somebody from
- 14:31[SPEAKER_04]: ABC family or somebody from Warner.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember who was.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: They were like, that is why it's for that relationship's defense.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of a crazy.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, Ezria is our cash cow.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_03]: Thanks for different back then.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's so true.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's so true.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like watching, going back and watching this, the number of relationships too that are also, like, you know, obviously we spend time talking about how Ezria and Aria, like, it's inappropriate.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's the age gap.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: There's the power dynamic.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like you add in like the Ian Spencer Allison like Allison fully like I'm pretty sure in the show with some Pledge you has an abortion with detective.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right?
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm like what and then like there are just some things that they just finally brush over and then what yeah even like sex
- 15:22[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my gosh, that sheet moment with Ari.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, she's a high school girl.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: But there's a dream in where she's back.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's a dream that she does do it.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: In that dream, she's having a dream that she's with Ezra and then she turned over and it's another.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: And they're both in bed together and she's like, okay, God, they go to chemistry, like wakes up and she's like, dad's like, are you a time to go?
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so funny.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember watching that I'm being like, okay, so I'll probably fall in love with my English teacher in high school and like, that's probably just like what people do.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like I was like, I mean, I put a phone head hook on with Ian Hardy and Lucy Hale when they meet in the bar and they go to the bathroom, like beat him at a school and watching that was like,
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, what if it is, I guess?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, this is almost believable, but that, and then.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_04]: But so, so many turns out is your teacher.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, you know, and then it's awkward, but then like,
- 16:22[SPEAKER_04]: Even if you pursued it a little bit, I think what was in the books was enough.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like I agree with you.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree with you.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_04]: I stick in by that.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: I can probably even with you on that.
- 16:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's, and I think we've all come around to that, too.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like as the, yeah, the comments speak, they're still not everyone.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty pretty.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Angry Ezreal defenders, but like most people, I feel like the silent majority are like, yeah, that's kind of a bizarre thing that they decided to do for seven seasons of a Because in the beginning when I was like watching it and I didn't I had never Made it to the Ezreal could be a storyline in the show.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: So like when we were getting there, Phoebe and I I was like wait a minute
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: We're finding out that he knew exactly who Arya was when he met her in that bar.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: If this storyline is true, that he's writing this book, that he already knew Allison, and he's already pursued Allison, who's also a ma.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, there's no grace for him, like anyone who's like, well, and there are still a bigger people that are like, well, he didn't know, and it's like, no, but he, we know that he did according to the show, we know that he did, and that's where it gets so crazy.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: And like, in this interview for the 15-year anniversary,
- 17:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's Lucy, Lucy is like, I will always stand by their love story, and I see what I did for the show.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: She says it brought a lot of people in which is 100% true, it was a different time and that whatever.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Ian and Lucy, it seemed like in their interview, they thought a little bit like they needed to feel.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Responsible for it and I was like you don't like no one's blaming you guys for Playing the roles that you were cast as and doing the scripts you were given It's just like I think now that's been enough time we can say like That was crazy we shouldn't have done it because Marlene is even like yeah, and there is a part where we find out that he knew who she was And like he knew how old she was like, but it's just interesting to hear them be like well, it's kind of arriest fall And it's like kind of like even now like I was just like oh my god, so
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's such a crazy, but I guess when you are so attached to something and it's like as responsible for so much of the buzz at that time of the show you just because Ian also says something that I know like from an acting perspective it's always true like when you're playing a villain you're a villain doesn't know they're the villain you're not supposed to think you're a villain and so it feels like there's a lot of like justifying that had to happen entirely also I also think that when they started this
- 18:46[SPEAKER_04]: the show they had no idea they're a little what was going to happen up there.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_04]: That's probably shoehorned in there.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, no one I they couldn't know it.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: They know their chemistry also.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think that I feel like season one there was still room for it end up the way that you wrote it in the books.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: We're like they could have taken it.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: as we're kind of ended up in jail, but I think that they weren't expecting the chemistry to be so probable between the team that meant for the teenagers to be like rabbit for them.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, like, us, we got to figure out how to keep this mystery.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Their parents are going to be supportive and it's going to be fine.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_04]: I think you're totally right.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_04]: That's that's how it happened with Toby too.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_04]: Toby was
- 19:36[SPEAKER_04]: a character is very long and he's supposed to die.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in the past two like you have them sort of switched, right?
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like Jenna is the victim and Toby is like bad guy and yes.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: And so I was curious like what are your thoughts on sort of a journey they took him on?
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like what do you think about them swapping?
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: Jenna and Toby that way and then also like what do you think about Spobie like how like that's just not a couple that was even on the table in your book, so like But it's such a people are so obsessed with my favorite Carolyn's a halo of girl and I'm a spell I like that change that that change I did like I
- 20:17[SPEAKER_04]: And again, like, I think it was just that, like he's just he brought a lot to that character.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and I think somebody probably Marlene and said, like, we've not intended for him to go round.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_04]: But like, I guess that's what, that's what you get when people are tweeting about this show and talking about the show.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_04]: Like, listen, they listen to like, we love this to a big guy and we want one to end up together and whatever.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_04]: So no, I do like that.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I,
- 20:45[SPEAKER_04]: I think the love, I, I like Halo, I would say Halo probably is my favorite too.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: I do like Ali at Emily, though, I mean, the divorce.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, we're so weird.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I know, but like, but I haven't, Derek, the Halo one, like, I, and again, he wasn't in the books either, but like, they are very sweet.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_04]: They seem like the most like innocent natural couple.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I agree.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_04]: And Spencer, I don't know.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_04]: Spencer told me I'm like, I didn't.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_04]: I always saw, Spencer was somebody different than that.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_04]: Just like more.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_04]: Just like insanely driven.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_04]: I guess he was very driven, but I did like that edition because I liked Toby a lot.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I liked that Jenna.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: Jenna was always had the potential to be right and evil and I like what there I thought that was fun she has like such an interesting arc throughout the whole yeah yeah show because she kind of looked she's kind of a frenemy to the girls especially we were talking about this last night in the last episode how she kind of is a big reason that they're able to cross this case
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: That is not Spencer.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's not Spencer, Toby.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: I smell her.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, I'm sorry.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: Toby is in here like getting down with Alex Drake and has no idea, but Jenna Marshall, who's blind can tell.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: If, okay, let's say we didn't know what's going on with her and Toby in the show before, like that she wasn't being creepy.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, she's got this perfect villain origin story, right?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like, blinded by someone like Allison, like, totally.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_00]: She could have just turned away, but then it's like, I kind of love that we had this.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: evil.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I hate what it is, but like this evil thing that she did because it's like she by all accounts appears as a victim, which makes her so much more sinister and evil because she's she's really a bad person in the show.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like all these people feel bad for her and it's like well, yeah, I don't know.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, but Ali did was horrible, but also Jenna's like a horrible person.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: So it makes, it blurs the line, like a lot of, of what's right and what's wrong.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like that happens a lot with Allison and I'm wondering like, at the finale, the girl just supposed to be like, okay, Allison is, absolve, we're all like happy.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: We, we feed trust her with Emily's heart with sweet Emily's heart.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're just like, okay, and I don't know.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of like, I still remember.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 23:39[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's not you good.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is not entirely sure about the changes that the bringing else into the fall, like, oh yeah, like, we'll always be best friends.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I don't know.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I think they're trauma bonded.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_00]: But also, like, you're the reason, like, you in this show, when we when we find out that she like,
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: really all of it was her own doing like her just deciding to go missing all these things I'm like okay, so all of this didn't have to happen as well.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm hearing like all of this that these girls get through and they're still like and she still gets out she doesn't have to end up in the doll house at all.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like she comes back for Rosewood and it like puts the work on these girls back and they all have to go to the doll house and she gets to just be like out and about slept on on here and they're like doing whatever she wants.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: But also while she's gone, I would have a really hard, and I liked the line that I think Ren said to Alex Drake and the finale about like Alex, like, you just tell them that you did, like they're super forgiving people.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think Alex comes back.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think Alex comes back from like her, however many years being missing, and she's like, guys, I was doing this to protect you.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: But it's actually like, no, you actually got like,
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: knew what was happening to these protecting them.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you dragged Emily out of a barn one time.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_01]: And she we're supposed to forgive you.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_04]: Wasn't that Mona's kind of that that was like they used up with Mona too.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_04]: I'm trying to get this guy.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_04]: They like have these layers.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_04]: And I do remember this like in the later.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_04]: the later seasons where, and it was hard to keep track of when you had so tweeting like funny moments and funny lines where it was like, wait, are you good or bad?
- 25:24[SPEAKER_04]: Like, why are you being all sinister and like looking over your shoulder and like those weird ways to say not a malice mask?
- 25:31[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god, the malice
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's that kind of Melissa actress in there for a little bit longer and I still don't think she got a good enough of goodbye I think like one is in there for like two seconds and yeah No, I know that so a commas the whole thing like it there was just so much you feel like I don't even know But it is true like I do have a little bit of like blinders all when it comes to motor
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't forgive Ali for calling him a fat like I'm like Ali, I'll never get over that But mama can hit Hannah with a car and yet I'm like, well Oh
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, that is literally one of the pivotal moments like as an adolescent watching in the fact that there were there were football players next to Hannah And they're starting out her You know how you live That could never go over now Like that would never go Michelle some of a lot of Mona's lines too like what is she at her nicknames for people like there's a
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's something about Mona, where it's so high camp, they're not trying to erase it.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because at the end of it, what it really comes down to with Mona is Hannah still to the very innocent in the good and Mona and she's like, okay, I just am confused because you're still playing the game.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: And Mona says, yeah, but I'm playing now to beat A.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm playing.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm using my powers.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: for good, and then, well, and then in our last scene, I'm like, Mona's really just fine because, so I know you've saw it years ago, but I was like, this scene, oh, and I didn't get it right away if you'd be able to explain it to me, but so they all come into the fake world that Alex Drake has created, the underground, real underground, whatever.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: And Mona's like, I already called the cops, and a cop comes in and takes Alex and Mary Drake away.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_04]: Is it the same crop that's always the crop on the, I'm pretty little like, no, no, but he was in the final, but he did get his moment.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I love it.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_04]: I love when they just bring that, you're like, yeah, he's just, he's just, he's just one.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_04]: Like, yes, he's hot and OG.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was in my episode, yes.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, we, yes, wait, did they have, was there ever, um, just quick, was there ever, like, where you ever wanting to do cameo in the finale or where you're like, I'm kind of good now.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I feel like, I would love to.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think they asked me.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_04]: I was there for them.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_04]: I was there during the filming of it, though, because they have the last days.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_04]: But I, I, I, I, I should have just thrown you.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_00]: I shouldn't have the wedding.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: You should have the officiating.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: The wedding.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_04]: I, I don't know why, um, it's time.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't, I don't know why I didn't, like, because we saw Marlene has her little moment.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it was like, where's Cara?
- 28:21[SPEAKER_04]: But, oh, I'm not on it twice.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, maybe you weren't on it.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_04]: We can't give Mrs. Shepard like, yeah, I know she, she's responsible for really this whole thing, but we can't You could have been like, could it have been like a Sarah mask?
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: No, they needed the molasses We, yeah, this is Sarah, one of the, you would have been like, huh?
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: That was not true from season one.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_04]: That was absolutely true, yeah.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_04]: It's a new anchor.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I could have done.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, but I just, I love that they brought that cop back.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, oh, I do do.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just a whatever.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's like those sweet two for those characters that aren't in every, like neat when one, they like make it happen and make time to be there for something like that and also like, you know, it was so cool for him to be in the most iconic show and then, you know, but and to be memorable enough that, like, we were like, we know,
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: But so then at the end we go to Paris, Mona is working in a desktop and the cop that she called, walks in, they're dating, they're going to go to dinner.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realize it was the cop.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: We find out she never called the cops.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we go down in her little bunker and she's created like her own doll house for Alex and Mary Drake and I was like, good for her and yeah, that actually justice is served like that's the end she shows up now I don't remember like the logic that maybe this was explained, she shows up in the perfectionist
- 29:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so we haven't watched the perfectionist.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm curious, I don't remember.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I wonder how they resolve.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Because I feel like from what I remember when it was on ABC family, it was like Mona's not, Mona was more normal than she ever was, even when she was on good terms with everybody, and pretty little eyes.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: And Ali and her are like chill.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_04]: I was working together.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_04]: It was really strange.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: I just love Monna, but we'll speed you to perfectionists.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: How did you feel about the, because, well, how did you feel the way they took Emily and Alice, and I guess the whole time, like bringing them together, and then bringing them together just to them and the careers later have them divorce.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_04]: Well, okay, so I think that was purely because they couldn't get shame, it should have been Yes, that's what we were thinking.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: Carolina has a her then was wondering.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, my Taylor and this is and this might be a horrific take and you can let me know about I'm like
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't have just rather they killed Emily than having a divorce.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's right.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 31:05[SPEAKER_04]: Like if she's a little bit, if someone doesn't want to do that, because they were like, well, just what if, yeah, you know, the door open.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you hear something.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_04]: But I don't understand why they didn't just have, like, texts from her or something.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_04]: I know.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_04]: Fans weren't like, that was people were not happy about that.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: What was it?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: It was such an exciting moment to like how this kind of like love story realized at the end, and especially with it being a queer love story, like it was like, I know, to not the one that falls apart, and I get why, but it's like, oh, maybe we just in the original scene, we like, as Ria is still together, we find out an original scene, and like, getting ready to have a baby, and it's like, being ready to have a baby, I think it's not true, right?
- 31:50[SPEAKER_04]: because, yeah, yeah, it was going to be the girl's baby.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: And she was like, we're advised from elsewhere.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they had that line.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: So you saw the script for the original original, and what did you think?
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: We had a, our take on that.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like we watched some of it, and we liked it.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: But we were like, this doesn't feel like pretty little layers.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like it feels like a,
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: a slasher kind of.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: And it really fun way, but I don't, I didn't feel as much like the tie.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, I guess if it was going to have the name, I wanted it to be more like tied to the shell.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: What did you do?
- 32:25[SPEAKER_00]: Did you walk another?
- 32:26[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I liked it.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_04]: But I, and I liked, I really like the characters.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_04]: I like the, it felt,
- 32:34[SPEAKER_04]: more modern.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_04]: But you know, and I had a very different feel.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_04]: I liked that the setting was different, but there was there's something about pretty little like watching that finale.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_04]: I was like cringing most of the times.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_04]: Like, oh my god, this is like so embarrassing.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_04]: I love the love songs and the like, oh my god,
- 32:56[SPEAKER_04]: over the shoulder just everything was like and there was the whole show like it was like so fun it was so much fun and all the twists and turns
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and they had to lay the ladies seeds at the beginning of the episode and be like, and by the way, this is a really interesting place.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, no, if it's not, if it's not someone it likes.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, did I get one?
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's so funny.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's just an epic thing.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, God.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but I didn't get that same lake.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_04]: Just fun from original sin, I thought it was a dark girl.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of it was just like dark.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_04]: It just, pretty large never took itself that seriously.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_04]: And I loved that they got that from the books because that's something that I really enjoyed about writing the books is that it was his murder mystery and about a series things like bullying and writing.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_04]: Just you know issues with eating disorders and you know right am I gay and like, you know, like yeah Seven to a side and all these different things, but like it didn't Like it was pretty goofy too.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: It had a room for the for the joke and the like levity Yeah, yeah, that's what made it so like a dick Dean yeah, and an amazing
- 34:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I just love that the show for as like cringy as like a lot of it was like but it was spot like it was okay it was okay and it's hard to it was also like a whole different team of writers and and showrunner that like all of that and you know wanting a different vision
- 34:59[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, I mean, it was very, it was very unique and I don't think perfectionists had it either.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's what really what yeah.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, or Ravens would feel like.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, Ravens would.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I can't, as a haylips didn't, I can't watch that.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: I actually can't watch that.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll start crying cheating.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's cheating.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's cheating.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: That was bizarre.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: That was like, what?
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: And then they have to bring Caleb back and he has to like he's being such a jerk forever and he's like he's having drinking problems and he's like you need to get your act together and he's like look if you saw what I saw over there yeah the fireflies you would get it you would just as dark as me no and it's in the 15 year
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: interview thing I kind of clocked this little moment work as Ian Harding and Tyler Blackburn both say something about it and I like off screen like think both I love both of these guys of their their personalities I think they're awesome.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: So this is purely just me coming from like an acting perspective as someone who's like worked with a lot of
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: guys who are actors and it's it's so funny because Caleb and Ian were both talking of or a kind of Tyler and Ian were both talking about how they were like kind of like okay the show you know maybe it's time for like something else at some point during the show and then they were given these dark twisty storylines and they were like wait a minute
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think I can do some real acting here and really make you friends and I mean.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, they just needed that little like, okay, we're going to give Caleb a drinking problem.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, it was like, okay, you know what, I'll say, like, I'll stick around, like this is going to be a little bit of a cabinet really hard.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_04]: And they're going to take their shirts off.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: Right, right.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: which I get where they would be coming from with that, at that time.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, to let you get the watching, oh, yeah.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_04]: But I think they took their shirts off, probably.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_04]: How many shirts do they have to sew?
- 36:54[SPEAKER_04]: Like, they had to.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_04]: And I think when, like,
- 36:58[SPEAKER_01]: Keegan Allen is on the was when he's one of the guys and you're like they're all such cute guys, but like Keegan Allen is like abracombie He's actually fit and she's always I'm showing up at the same day as Keegan and I have to take my shirt off.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like I'm sick actually.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: I like where's the airbrush artist?
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: Can we get some like abs drilling on here maybe?
- 37:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, totally.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, so we talked kind of about the twin thing, but yeah, and our finale for sure we get like multiple little twin moments obviously like Ali and Emily have twins.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: Let me've got Mary and Jessica and we've got Alex and Spencer.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so I wanted to see like, did you feel like that you said you were excited to see it?
- 37:36[SPEAKER_00]: Did it didn't make it feel like okay, like kind of brought it back at the end of the day too.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: where it sort of began, obviously not in the same way, but did you feel, did you like the way that they kind of took the twin twist and kind of paid like homage to your story?
- 37:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if they
- 37:54[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know if that's what they were doing.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know either.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: But what?
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: No, really?
- 37:58[SPEAKER_03]: It was like a pie, too.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I was like, you're lots a little twin moments.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: Still no Courtney.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: You wouldn't have been really worth it.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: Have that be the twist.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if at the end it ended up that Ali had had this twin, I should be able to have been able to absolutely, uh, bring that down.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what I would have been all about.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, she would have killed it.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: She would have killed it.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that, that's, it was, I'll say it.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Mr.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Opportunity, they, they, they should have had the Courtney storyline.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: That would have been really like it would have been.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I wonder when we're going to explain that to me as a kid, like before the show starts like she had read the first couple books, whatever.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I, that's what made me be like this is a show that I have to keep my finger on the pulse of because
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I'm going to do a story last time, but like I would wait for the DV artist show is like this had been watched and then I'd watch it And it was because of that I was like, this is there is something was still going on here.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_04]: I need to know what's going on here I was just gonna say like the whole party else thing I had this whole file like it was really hard to keep that straight
- 39:05[SPEAKER_04]: I just, I should remember I had this at certain things I need to like go back and find, but like I had this whole file like
- 39:11[SPEAKER_04]: You know, when Courtney was Courtney and when Ali was Ali and then when the switch happened and then it was happening.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it was really fun.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_04]: Although I then I that I made that I like pitched the whole book out of it, which was yeah, Alice.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, oh, oh, but I wish I I wish I would have I mean shoot, you know, kind of sticking that Spencer storyline again, it would be very interesting to know and I don't I don't know this like,
- 39:36[SPEAKER_04]: Um, how far did advance they planned some of this?
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've always wanted to make that.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, actually with this last one.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_04]: So for the books, it was like every four books, I had a general idea of like what was going on.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_04]: And it would like start over and be like, oh, God, wait.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_04]: And like, you know, lucky.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_04]: I knew that there were going to be four more when I was on my book, too.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_04]: So that was great because I was like, oh, I can like, right, lay all the groundward here.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_04]: Like, then when it went past book eight, I was like, oh, God, I don't know.
- 40:09[SPEAKER_04]: And I kind of wonder if that sort of what happened with pretty little layers like, did they think it was going to be?
- 40:15[SPEAKER_04]: free seasons, four seasons, and then when it became like five, I've got that sense of the C.C.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: reveal.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like they were like, oh, you want us to keep going?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_04]: Like, yeah, it definitely definitely, it definitely is that.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, even the Ezra thing, it was like, no, that wasn't how he was.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: would have been an honestly like I really liked in the beginning.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: I was really into an all-con.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like I really was like I like Ariana and we get that episode of them.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: The the test episode where it's raining and they're all like stuck in the SATs.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: and Arya and Null are like singing and then Ezra walks in and it's the moment or whatever, but I was always just like, come on, Arya, I just like snap out of it and Null is so cute and like obviously you have them together in the books and being protective and sweet about Arya's, you're like a real person he was like this is creepy that you're doing hell or like you're not with our teacher
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let me get you out of here like I get you have to be stuck here.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_00]: And so curious when you're thoughts of like the twist with making no evil and also, I don't know if you remember this, but he's be headed I couldn't believe my eyes I kind of remember that
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, it's really shocking.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's not even a Halloween episode.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: They go on this feels like a haunted house and he's being evil.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a night in shopping armor.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think I have like, fall to the ground and no falls on it and his head gets chopped on the axe on the ground.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: Rolls down the steps like a bowling ball and stops at Jenna Marshall's feet and Jenna will eat it at a time.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: He takes the steps of bowling ball.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: You can't see it.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was like no way that's how no conscious I thought it was like Riverdale vibes like that Like it didn't quite feel like something to pick you.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't see it.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: So thoughts on that thoughts on how they kind of took No one changed it a little bit like what did you think?
- 42:20[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I think it was fine.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_04]: They changed Lucas to like they Yeah, I feel like a lot of those like
- 42:25[SPEAKER_04]: the e-characters.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'm happy they kept them at all.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_04]: Because some characters they did and keep or out of their minds or whatever.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_04]: So it was fun when they would keep like some of my from the books.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_04]: Um, yeah, God, I forgot about that whole Nathan.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_04]: And at least, I mean, the number of like,
- 42:49[SPEAKER_04]: gruesome deaths and like God people who end up in sort of, you know, institutionalized need them in the mental words and like just so much trauma of this
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: Emily's storyline.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think I don't know like and you'll have to if you go back and rewatch the whole thing.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: You'll have to like text us as I'm tweeting.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: I knew it was us your thought.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's like a start.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good time.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's a good
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh Emily, yeah, we're trying to see like okay, who do we think has the most trauma like who's really been through the most and like I don't I mean
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: Emily and Hannah I think are really up there for me like I mean that that Emily was like in her eggs being taken and then like put in out but also I mean, I was just like what like it's just such another level ever Can you try to like think about who has it the worse it then somehow connects to something worse that happened to a different girl and then all ends up circling back and
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I will always, I mean, like, I think Arya, especially with the Liars Lament thing, like Arya got out of way easy and Hannah had the opposite effect and Ali.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like they all like had to do turns over.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: At least what's the things in Arya is like, well, I'm just going to, guys, it's actually pretty easy.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: Just join the ATM and it won't be your turn.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_00]: Just do you turn up this thing on your bad guys.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: They will not try to hurt you.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: I learned.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, no really, but it's so true.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: And like, I don't know.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess, I'm gosh, I keep like losing my turn.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: I thought my question is sort of, in the area thing, did you ever think Arya was going to be A?
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, would you have wanted her to be A?
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_00]: Who did you think was going to be A?
- 44:49[SPEAKER_04]: In the books no, because they were, that I wouldn't have like, I feel like readers would not have been really mad at me.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_04]: It was like you're writing their, you're writing their voice and like then they're just an unreliable narrator and then that's like not satisfying, but like in a show it feels a little different and it would, it could be interesting.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_04]: I always, I, she was the only one I could really think.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe happy.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I think she's really on that.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, she did work for anybody else, but, um, but I'm glad I'm glad they did it.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_04]: I do know.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think it would have taken away from the main theme and message of the show, which is that these girls are at the end of the day.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like for all their folks, they do.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: They are a good group of friends.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Some, some better than others, which I guess,
- 45:48[SPEAKER_01]: Caroline and I we kind of have decided that we think Hannah is is the best friend of all the girls and Arya is the worst of the girls and maybe what is your opinion on that?
- 46:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hannah just like she never does anything wrong I think the one full poll we've ever seen Hannah do is in the finale.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and Arya it's like every episode All right, just like what is in the finale?
- 46:14[SPEAKER_04]: What's the, what's the, they're very small.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: We're being nitpicked.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're being nitpicked.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_00]: Hannah brings Mona.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't know.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: She asked you make some of it.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: Are you bringing it to the party?
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: We're a little thinner.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're a little thinner.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: Why did she do that?
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: Without telling them I just thought it was a little bit like you know are he is not gonna like be cool about it I think they were scared to leave her alone Yeah, and Caleb's like well, I don't know maybe if you're scared to leave her alone We could have just like not how to live with us
- 46:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, I thought it was just taking her in.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_04]: It was kind of, yes.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_00]: What do I come on?
- 46:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I know.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: That is that my memories are just like, but I usually see the good and more on her friends immediately are like, why would you do that?
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, no, no, no, here's why she would do it.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_04]: But I buy it now, now the Hannah of the book, though, and it's really the Hannah of the show.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_04]: Like, she,
- 47:16[SPEAKER_04]: And Mona had this friendship and this sort of power dynamic and like I could see, even in the books, Mona was dead, like Mona calling her out.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_04]: Like I'm not dead, can I come and stay with you?
- 47:28[SPEAKER_04]: No, I'm staying with you and like whatever.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_04]: Like I can't see him, like so I totally.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_04]: I get it, the Indian party.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but that's the only other thing that we fully like she, yeah, her relationship with Mona is one of the main things about it, but it's with everyone, are you?
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, with the whole, I don't know if you remember this, but there was a time where Ella was dating this young guy who worked at the brew and he was weird.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_01]: He like sexually harassed Hannah and Hannah tried to tell
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: She wasn't like, are you feel bad at me?
- 48:01[SPEAKER_01]: Feel bad for me.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, your mom can't marry this guy.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's a bad guy.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_01]: How could you tell you, and like, Hannah, I'm sorry.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: It goes off.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: Arias, like, I didn't know you were such a slut, Hannah.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, are you literally as like, sounds like a you problem?
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: So like, you were trying to take my mom's man.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, she just totally, and it's like, are you what?
- 48:19[SPEAKER_00]: But we should have expected her to be on the wrong side of her story because obviously she's with us.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but still.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_04]: I think you, yeah, she just gets pushed around by her friends.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, which kind of tracks.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's, that is Hannah.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's still as she is.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_04]: She was always my favorite.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: She's the one who shows up.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: She's the one who forgives.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and she will get in, and Arya.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: But it's kind of two camps in this friendship.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: This friend group, it's Emily and Hannah will show up for you no matter what.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I'm out at you.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Aryan Spencer, they'll show it for each other.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's probably not showing it for the other.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: Sarah, do you ever watch this as comp- Well, it's not unrelated, but it is.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: Do you ever watch a real housewife, so Salt Lake City or any sort of real housewives show?
- 49:08[SPEAKER_04]: I have.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_04]: I have not lately.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_04]: Um, I have watched New York and...
- 49:16[SPEAKER_04]: Beverly Hills.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_04]: I watched for a county like a million years ago.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, what?
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, if you have the time.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the leave it.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually what really got.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think Beverly Hills is what got us into house.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: I spent for a lot of people that I felt like is the entry point.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's just
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: There's only, I mean, I say, there's only like six seasons, but compared to the others, it's not as much.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: And like, there's not a dot episode, every single episode.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's like pretty, the entire episode is like, you can't believe that there's more that they could put it in there.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: But they're real.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: And they're real.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: And the relationship in Phoebe, you'll get this.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like the relationship between Meredith Marks and Lisa Barlow is akin to the relationship with Arya and Arya and Spence, have it really like, you know?
- 50:02[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, we can have our problems with each other, but we're never going to deal with them, and front of the rest of our people.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to deal with them on our own, whereas Hannah and Emily, like, they have no problem.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_01]: And they don't really fight with the Emily's not really a fighter, but like, they have issues honestly.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: The way they're not trying to be seal it from the rest of the group.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: As Spencer and especially Arya is like,
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know when you need to know what problems I have, like everything in my life is perfect.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't trust any of you guys.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone wants a piece of this.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: Totally.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so if you do watch Salt Lake, I would have to watch.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to, we're going to keep moving along some questions.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: Just, I don't know that I wanted to ask because I'm going through my notes.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: So we have created some little inside jokes along the way that what we've been watching this show.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: And we've, our listeners really like that we world build a lot.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: So like obviously you create this world for all of us just sort of play in.
- 51:08[SPEAKER_00]: And,
- 51:08[SPEAKER_00]: along the way we just added in a lot of things and so we'd love to just got your take on some of these things and maybe you'll be like oh my god that was almost a storyline and then we'll find out that way but um one of them is that and I don't know if you're a fan of wicked but there's a scene where L.M.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: Montgomery and Arya are having
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: it's right when Ella moves out and she's like painting and she's like finding herself and she's leaving Byron and she's like all this green paint on her hands and we just get this one shot of like her hands being like her hands are falling green like you're staying and we just kind of went on this tangent where like she's actually playing Alphaba in a community theater version of Wicked and not like she that's what she's doing she's moonlighting as as the Wicked
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, has Ella Montgomery and your mind, like just does that jog any memory for you of like her a pass that she had in musical theater like does that sound like a pretty real possibility?
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: This wasn't acknowledged.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_04]: It could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it could, it
- 52:19[SPEAKER_04]: of her story, but I like that.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_04]: They're always very open with the Montgomery family to, you know, oh, yeah.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's definitely out how open they were.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I loved that line, that line in the finale where they are getting, they're getting dressed for the wedding and Pam comes, comes into the dressing room and Arya and her talking and she calls her Mrs. Fields, almost with an i-roll.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like she always does her misses and misses fields and misses fields goes I think it's time Yeah, and Caroline and I were both like Arya definitely internally was like been calling them going to you You're my peer.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you're not playing on my career.
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think Arya fully believes that
- 53:02[SPEAKER_01]: she's been going everyone by their first names, um, that's so true.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: She's like, we're on this level.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, okay.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: So that was one.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: Then we also were kind of like discovering there seem to be some like portals in Rosewood, like maybe a portal to New York, like a portal to Philadelphia.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm like we live in Pittsburgh.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: So we understand that Philadelphia is
- 53:25[SPEAKER_00]: not just like a quick little johns and whatever, but they can be in Philadelphia, New York rosewood in one, it was very something wrong about this guy.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_04]: You can be in Philly pre-fast.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_04]: If you're looking at the train and you can be in Philly pre-fast, you can be in your pre-fast.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, there is like no girls you're just going there.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you can, but I agree.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_04]: And we're in the books too, where they'd be in Philly and like,
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: if you knew you were can they would be in New York yeah yeah one episode of really goddess is really like where is this portal like it's into the Fitzgerald theater it's the one where like they all go to New York and Ezra when they find Ali and they and Shauna dies and all that sort of thing it's been already against the skin of the killer
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's another way she's so low we have is like every time one of the girls the Emily's the first one to kill Some more is a killer and she starts acting different and we call that like that there's they got the skin of the killer Not the skin of a killer in our story She gets the skin of the killer It's definitely everybody's issue more than it is when the other girls kill people because she's like fully watching the funeral of the person Girls in the computer lab it's cool
- 54:38[SPEAKER_00]: She's literally watching the music live for the funeral and the computer lab at school full volume, crying, wearing a hat.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we're like, bro, you are drawing attention to yourself.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: You want everyone to know about it.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: You weren't close.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: People were gonna ask questions.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: Are you like, every time, once Ariah kills so much, she's like, nobody understands me.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: And Emily's like, hey, that's new.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's all over.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: I must know.
- 54:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's a claim.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel like, it's not, I don't know.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: Why do I feel like it's not like that in the book says much.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I feel like Ariah's so much more.
- 55:06[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_04]: No, I mean, I like it though in the show.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_04]: I do think it's fine.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_04]: Like even in the finale when when like you're seeing all the sex scenes and then all of a sudden aren't just crying.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_04]: And do you just have to look down there and see anything.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_04]: I had to rewind it because I like.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_01]: She finds the center most part of the loss with the resort where she's certain everybody will be able to hear her first.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_04]: The sound they're crying in the middle of it.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_04]: She's like, I want everyone to come to me.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, she's like everyone's getting busy and we need to wrap this up, but she's like, woohoo, literally waiting for them to come check.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: I loved in the finale, she also, when Toby comes in and tells them all, like, Spencer has a twin.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: At first, she's talking about when Spencer kissed him goodbye and he was like, and I thought that was weird because I have a fiancee and we're like, moving out, and all this stuff and Ari goes, okay.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: What does this have to do with Ezra?
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's Ezra's not laughing at me.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, anyway, she's like, I don't, but he's probably getting there, girl.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: Just go, hurry, hurry, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up,
- 56:28[SPEAKER_01]: I would have been the same one, probably, mentally.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, mentally, at one point, I think it's, I think it's when they're trying to figure out who code CC was when we realized this about Emily and Melissa.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: We learned, because they have a sorted path.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: They maybe had a trist or a romantic trist or something because the passion that Emily feels towards Melissa is one only a scorned lover could feel.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, Emily, like, is on Melissa's trail all the time.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, she wants to go in her room and go through her stuff.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: She wants to, like, all, she's like, back to Melissa, Melissa's got to be, like, she doesn't really think there is Melissa.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_00]: Where's Melissa?
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: Spencer, if you had to guess, like, where do you think that could find her?
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, like, I need to have Melissa stuff.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, like, oh, uh-oh, have you, okay, you guys, and what a rep, I mean, what a crazy label out is.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I imagine you probably knew about it, but just wondering, like,
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: He said, love that!
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: We had them, I think we did a whole Patreon episode.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: We did an entire episode.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_00]: We did an entire episode.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of like, but we, first of all, we need to hear more about Memeleem.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, right, right.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's so much more.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_04]: It's so scary.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_04]: When did Memeleem happen?
- 57:38[SPEAKER_04]: When do we think this is like, I think we think...
- 57:43[SPEAKER_01]: there was a time when Emily was there we get this scene between Hannah and Hannah and Melissa in London and they meet in the bathroom and they're like screaming at each other like which is weird or weird and yeah well though this actually happens to the show this is it.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then we were like, okay, Emily's actually on that trip to visit Hannah and she is in the bathroom hearing that Melissa's having troubles with Ren and then And then Emily shows up at Melissa's door and Melissa shows up at Emily's door and they're like, oh my goodness.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: There's, you know, I'm on a feeling for you on a Sarah.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's like not really that much evidence that we that we used to come up with this.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: We just, we never need that kind of vibe.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_01]: I just need, we just need a little moment and then we're there.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_01]: We just kind of vibe with it.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_04]: Now I can rewatch.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_04]: from the beginning and think about this.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's exactly what we wanted.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's all we could ever will.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's always going to have a dream of.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I should feel like a college course on pretty little layers.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_04]: There should be, you know, look at theories, based, you know, and you couldn't watch it based on your, you know, your feminist reading or your,
- 58:54[SPEAKER_04]: memory interpretation.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're like, we're all like, you weren't reading between the lines.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: You guys didn't find it because it's a couple of years or you shouldn't meet literature majors if you didn't.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_04]: I would love to write a paper on that.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_04]: Well, that's like we realized that we could call her up.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_01]: We could just make the Patreon episodes us basically doing oral arguments for those because it would be just be like, okay, yeah, and then in this scene when this thing happens and they're all talking about who killed CC at one point Aryan Spencer go outside and start arguing about like why is Emily so obsessed with Melissa and like Arya's expense, I think it's weird,
- 59:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's my hand.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_00]: I get so mad at Melissa because Hannah's like, you look what you did in my friend.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like you broke it.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so Hannah Spencer's really got heard about it.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: Spencer's like Emily, I'm uncomfortable.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to know anything about you and Melissa like, Oh my god, like I just walked in on this in one time, like I got a sleepover and I thought that it was, I was dreaming, you know, like just think like that anyway.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_00]: Um, another thing we would say all the time, and this, I feel like you will totally get as that like Spencer, we would put her in great time, or we would be like, she really needs great time.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_00]: And like when our mom's dogs were being trained, they were learning about great time.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, you know, animals actually like dogs really need it and love it.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's right in take off their worker cap, and they can really just be off duty.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_01]: which is so cute and we were like Spencer somebody who like need like we need a physically put her in great time so that she can just because she like she just goes off the rails if she doesn't have anything that's why Toby works for her like as her partner because he's like Spencer you need to like chill out which is why Alex comes into the hotel room for them to hook up and he's like she says you're having coffee at this hour.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_01]: Toby should have been all night.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's weird.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_00]: Toby would have been like sponsored whenever say that, you know, I thought it was weird that Toby didn't pick up on it, which is actually why I'm glad they didn't have the show end with Toby and Spencer fully together because it's like right I feel like if I'm Toby I need some time to like heal from yeah you basically being like taking advantage of the coffee that moment was was not Spencer.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember.
- 1:01:05[SPEAKER_04]: I was Alex Alex.
- 1:01:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's really creepy.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: Two times.
- 1:01:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Tony.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_00]: I know it.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: I know it.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that's coming.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, why?
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_00]: Because I have adrenaline.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: And you didn't know.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: And of course.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:01:23[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_00]: It took the horse for Toby to realize it wasn't her.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_00]: we just have some fan questions that they've not done.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, the first one is, um, well, this one, a lot of people were talking about this, that they really, really love, I think her name is Cassandra Morris, who did the first eight audiobooks and then there are audiobooks for the
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_00]: rest of the books and they're all like this is our chance to tell Sarah how bad we want we're audio books and we want Cassandra to be the person doing them like with that ever happens so I don't know if you have any thoughts on that but I have to we got to do our listeners.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_04]: I'm writing it down.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, let's see it.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_00]: She is actually writing this down.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_04]: I am.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_04]: I actually have seen that question.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_04]: They don't instagram or something.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I usually don't have that much to do with audio books, but like great.
- 1:02:14[SPEAKER_04]: Why they only did the first eight.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_04]: I am really not.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know it's interesting because they're quite a few more of them.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_04]: I'm asking.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, okay, guys.
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like, don't look at our blog as we've been doing that, just kidding, but I can't, I can't do that.
- 1:02:43[SPEAKER_00]: I know, but they really, really like, and they like that girl, also, um, yeah, she's a good voice for it.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_00]: So some of the books, um, there have been some updates that people have noticed.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, a one of them, I think Hannah's hair goes from being brown to blonde, or there might be little like tech things, like, can you talk a little bit about that?
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_04]: But it's okay again.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_04]: So a few years ago, I don't remember when it was, but it was definitely a few years ago, and the editor at Harper Collins, and I don't know who decided that this was going to happen.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think they were like doing new covers.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, what I'm doing new covers, which I don't like those new covers.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, we're like, you have to go on eBay to get the old ones.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_00]: They're so good.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there was a soul, like ingrained in my brain.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I don't want to know what.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_04]: Why didn't you just keep the old?
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:03:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:54[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_04]: I don't.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_04]: divided.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_04]: Because I was like, okay, I mean, they are looking on blackberries and like, yes, yes, little flip phones, which I would like to recognize your AOL and some messenger, like, you know, 2005 tech.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, and like making references to like, there was a reference to Donald Trump and Bokwan.
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_04]: I could not hide it.
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I just think of a rich guy.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, they've got these girls out of the world.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_04]: We were living in, uh, totally.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, right.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_00]: Wasn't that like about golf or something?
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, um, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_04]: I can't remember.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_04]: But I was at flipping through the book while I go out.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, oh my gosh.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my God, wow.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_04]: But like, you know, a lot of the music, like, the brands, like a lot of the things that, you know,
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if I actually had a choice.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think I had to, but I felt kind of weird about it.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_04]: And then it moved into the territory of like, oh, well.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_00]: This is sort of not a very nice thing for A to say, like, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock, rock
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_02]: I wish I wouldn't have touched it at all, actually, because now it's just funny that they're right, right, right.
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_00]: One of the times, kind of like exactly, it's also, it holds up and that's what I was thinking like, yeah, you know, the finale being this full circle moment where they recreate the barn scene with Sidney Swaney.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_00]: Spencer and all the, you know, the new girls or whatever.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like the thing at the end of the day, this story and the world are pretty little layers will never not work because they're always going to be, it's just like with mean girls and the queen bees and want to be is kind of a thing.
- 1:05:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's like
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_00]: we're going to have this trope forever.
- 1:05:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're always going to be the girl that is so mean and no one can figure out why you're loyal to her and you can't figure it out either, but you can't help it.
- 1:06:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's always going to be a story to the things if you're trying to sanitize the things that A would say to certain people.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, well,
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: Even if it's, even if it's not what you should, that's the point you shouldn't be saying those things, but the example still is there.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but yeah, it's, it's really, what's the change for our lives.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_00]: So thank you for that.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_00]: And one more question is just I wanted to see like your thoughts on a movie your thoughts on I know they were all kind of following it around that they'd love to do it like would you be down?
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_00]: Would you want to get involved like how what is that?
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_04]: I would love to I would love to I would love to see
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_04]: The original characters came back.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just silly, guys.
- 1:06:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, yeah.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're really bad with the girls.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, kind of like a sex in the city movie, like, yes, yeah, just to see what the girls are up to.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I didn't care.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_04]: about the boys and sexes, maybe.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_00]: No, even in, well, there's Caleb has the one line in the, the finale, where he's like, I feel like a passenger in this marriage, and I'm like, okay, and you are, like, hello.
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, Caroline said, Caroline said, and you're lucky to be in the corner.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: And you're lucky to be in the corner, like, exactly.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_04]: But anyway, yeah, no, there's stories, don't matter.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_04]: Um, you really don't.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_04]: They really don't, but I think that'd be so fun.
- 1:07:27[SPEAKER_04]: And what do you think?
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I think it would for it to work.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like it would have to be in the same vibe as the show.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think so too.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_04]: So, a little cheesy, like, can't be, you know, kind of over the top.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that's what, I mean, it's funny you mentioned sex in the city because like that's so much about friendship and like, very strange costumes.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, like romance, romance, and like just, you, but mostly like the friendship dynamics.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's very similar.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's just without the stalking in the murder and the, yeah, that's the very similar.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_04]: It really, it really is.
- 1:08:03[SPEAKER_04]: And like, I watched the, the, they're like, whatever it was that I'm just like that.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_04]: It was like not as crazy about it.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was kind of modernized it a bit.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_04]: She did it, modernized it.
- 1:08:19[SPEAKER_04]: But again, sexes like the old episodes are really actually funny.
- 1:08:23[SPEAKER_04]: They're fast.
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my god, seriously.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_04]: They're like very charming.
- 1:08:28[SPEAKER_04]: And like the new series, yeah, it tried to be too many things.
- 1:08:34[SPEAKER_04]: It tried to like, be as to many people.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_04]: Like, yes, whatever.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_04]: But also it's just like, didn't have that energy.
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think you're so right about if there's a pretty little iris movie it needs to have that feel like the first couple seasons where it's just like that That Shot on film Oh my god.
- 1:08:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's like Just In the sea Gorgeous of that and so I feel like we need to get you like in the writers room.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_00]: We need to get you on Saturday We need to get you involved with this movie like for sure It's like I've already The only way The project and it seemed like all the girls were like down for it.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_00]: So we're just going to be in this
- 1:09:06[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like they're all kind of coming back into this, not that I feel like any of them are ever jaded about it at all, but like sometimes I can happen and if you like recently, you've seen Ashley Benson and Tyler Blackburn hanging out all the time.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're all kind of engaging with pretty little liars in a way that is like, it's sweet and to see them reflect fondly on that kind of their life.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, a lot of them.
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_04]: It was their first big job.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, oh my god.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, and like, and I bet that was really strange then to be kind of tied down to something for seven years because like there were a lot of episodes.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, oh my god.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_00]: So 26.
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it feels like in the thick of it when they're also they talked about like you know at the show's called pretty little liars and it's like
- 1:10:01[SPEAKER_00]: We've got the prettiest girls we could find.
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_00]: We put them all here and work and it's like it's not a competition, but when you put four or five girls next to each other, people are going to be a certain way and I feel like it would be impossible.
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like as they're growing up and going through those times in their lives, it'd be impossible not to like when you're in the midst of it feel like you're actually there in high school and I can't wait to move on.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_00]: And then look into academics.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
