- 0:00Hello, and welcome back to our solo episodes. It's Dune here, your host and hype girl. Now, I don't know about you, but to me, it feels like Saturday is just rolling around so bloody fast these days. I cannot believe that it is Mariah Carey season officially again, which I'm super happy about, by the way. But my gosh, this year has just blown through. Yeah.
- 0:27So that aside, I had a new idea for these solo episodes that we can test out. And as always, I would love to know what you think. Feel free to slide into my DMs. Feel free to email me. I'd love to know what you think.
- 0:42The short gist is that I was thinking I learn a lot of new things every week. And in between my non-alc wine updates, I was thinking I could just give you a quick breakdown of new opportunities or things that I'm coming across or things that I'm learning about. Maybe it's useful. Maybe it's not. But it's quick. It's a small recap. And it's spreading the good word about all the things.
- 1:07Before we get into it, if you're in the mood to shout about us on social media, be sure to tag me and Female Startup Club so we can repost you and share all the love on Instagram. Let's get into this episode. Here are seven things in seven minutes for Female Startup Club.
- 1:25Okay, hi, here we are. Let's get started on seven things in seven minutes. These are a few things that have been catching my attention recently, and I thought, hey, maybe these are worth passing on. Number one is a resource that I was given from Lulu Liang, CEO of Girlboss, and this is something we actually talk about in her episode, but it's been an instant game changer for me, so I want to make sure you 100% know about it too.
- 1:54After our interview, she emailed me her daily affirmations and meditations playlist that she listens to to keep calm, keep a healthy mindset, all that good stuff. I started listening immediately and have had it on repeat ever since. I'm going to link them in the show notes. And if you're having a stressful day or you wake up feeling a bit low, you're going to
- 2:14Do not wait to use these. Just get started. Open it up. Press play. The affirmations basically act in like a subliminal way. And the overall vibe is so chill and calming. I really needed it this morning. And it did the trick within a few minutes. And I just so recommend it. So I'm linking it in the show notes. I really think you should check it out. Number two, I'm
- 2:36I was at lunch today with Alex Icon, founder of the 5 Minute Journal. And it's such a funny coincidence, actually, because we just interviewed Lulu this week. And she was the woman who took their first business, Luxie Hair, through to an eight-figure exit.
- 2:51So anyway, what Alex and Mimi do now is all geared towards creating impact and positivity, which, of course, is something that we all need to focus on, especially right now, especially coming out the other side of this pandemic. So the five minute journal is an easy way to win your day by writing down what you're grateful for.
- 3:11But it also got me thinking about other ways that I could use five minutes to positively impact my day. Like, for example, five minutes of affirmations or five minutes of meditation in the morning, five minutes of meditation in the evening, five minutes of just even sitting still and being quiet and doing nothing, just idle. I encourage you to think about your own five minutes and what you could do to impact your day and impact your soul with those five minutes.
- 3:39Number three is I Fund Women. I just want to shout them out. I'm on the receiving end of their newsletter, maybe for a couple of years now. I feel like all the time, but I've never actually kind of gone on their website, which is so bizarre. But I was on their website and I realized they offer grants all the time for different female owned and led businesses. And I mean, like...
- 4:01Even just last week, they had a grant for women in Ireland. They had a grant for this and that, all these different categories. And right now, they have a universal application open that you can actually apply to. And they have a few million dollars in a grant pool that they'll basically, if they think that your application is great, they'll match you and they can give you a grant. So definitely get on the website. Check out the grant section.
- 4:26They also have this other really cool section about crowdsourcing funds through their network, which is something I haven't dug too deeply into, but also a vibe. And besides that, when you apply for the universal application, they also have a network of VCs who are looking for deal flow consistently. So when you process the application, they add you to a certain database.
- 4:48And they can match you to certain things as and when they pop up. So you basically just get on their radar. And it's the perfect opportunity for you to get access to different grants and all this kind of good stuff. So definitely check out iFundWomen. Sign up to their newsletter. I know that they send out a bunch of different things there too. Number four, if you're in the e-commerce world and you need content at scale for ads, which obviously most people do right now, there's a company you need to know about.
- 5:18To backtrack, I've been quoted some crazy stuff recently for ad creatives. I'm talking like $900 for a single piece of video content for Facebook ads, which is obviously crazy if you need to be producing 5, 10, 50 content.
- 5:35200 pieces of content per month. I mean, especially for small business owners, it's actually wild. So my point being is that there's a company called Get Creatives with a K, so G-E-T-K-R-E-A-T-I-V-E-S, Get Creatives. And they offer two different plans. The first one is $397 US per month for six videos or six videos.
- 6:00or $797 per month for unlimited videos. It's like mind-blowing. They basically take all of the assets you have and turn them into nifty videos, or they can also do a UGC style thing with their network of creators. It's a real vibe. We've been using this for quite a while now, and one of our ads actually got voted a top ad by TikTok, which now they're distributing...
- 6:26you know, in their network to show other people what a good TikTok ad is. So highly recommend it. I probably have some kind of discount or like some kind of referral thing. I don't have it on me right now. But if you want to message me and get something, I'm sure I can hook that up for you and connect those dots.
- 6:43Number five, I just learned about this thing called Paste App, which is P-A-S-T-E dot app. And it's basically this super easy tool you can use to build out decks, kind of like a media deck or, you know, a brand deck or a funding deck, you know, whatever, any kind of deck.
- 7:03I think it's owned by WeTransfer now, but the gist is that they take like your messy ideas and notes and they design your deck so that you don't have to. But they also make it super easy for you to change the info. And someone sent it to me via a link. All I had to do was click it and like it obviously opens online. But you don't need to go worrying about like opening some big files, some big document, resaving out PDFs and all that kind of business.
- 7:30Anyway, I heard about it yesterday. I'm using it to build out some of the decks for Female Startup Club, and I think you should check it out. Six. Gosh, I'm doing this in more than seven minutes. I think we're already at eight.
- 7:43But number six, I met this woman called Gloria Chu this week. She runs the Small Business PR Podcast. Basically, she is an expert at teaching early stage entrepreneurs like me and maybe like you how to hack your own PR with her three-step pitching method.
- 8:01It's the perfect solution for small bootstrapped businesses to get press in top tier publications like the New York Times or Forbes or Fast Company or Vogue versus the path of hiring a huge fancy agency and paying $15,000 a month, which obviously is very tricky if you are new, if you're just starting out, if you're not funded, all that kind of stuff. So...
- 8:26Basically, she packages it all through a course that she sells. And within the course, you also get access to this baller media list of thousands of journalists ready to go in whatever industry you're in. So another side note about this is we're having her in Hype Club in the coming weeks for a workshop, but I recommend jumping on her podcast and checking out a specific episode on holiday gift guides because it's super relevant to right now. She steps you through how to take advantage of gift guides today.
- 8:54in the lead up to this holiday season. And there is definitely still time, but you just have to get onto it like ASAP. Like you have to action this week kind of thing. So check that out. If you listen to it, if you get something out of it, please drop me a DM. Let me know what you think.
- 9:09And number seven, last one, the Target Accelerators program is open and taking applications until the 14th of November. If you are a listener of the show, you will know how many different brands and how many different founders have come through that program. It is like gold. You need to apply. They have two different cohorts you can apply to at the moment. The first one is perfect for mature consumer packaged goods companies that are ready to scale their product into Target's retail stores.
- 9:37And then they also have the Takeoff Beauty Program. And that kind of makes me think, because it's called Takeoff, that maybe it's for newer beauty brands. But basically, they're looking for beauty companies. And in their own words, they're looking to be blown away. You can sign up to their website and they finish that on the 14th of November.
- 9:55Okay, so that's my seven things in seven minutes. There's another thing I just wanted to mention about Hype Club community and something that we're on the lookout for. So if you know the answer to this, please let me know. We are on the hunt right now for a sustainable packaging vendor that's also affordable for small businesses. Something that can do customization, printing, all that kind of stuff. So if you have something in mind or you use something for your brand that's affordable and it's sustainable,
- 10:22could you please drop into my DMs and let me know because I would love to share it with our network and, you know, we're all looking right now. And by the way, one last thing, go and check out Being Boss by Emily Thompson. It's a podcast. It's amazing. And I'm pinching myself because as of this week, we can hear female startup club ads at the start of her show. And I just wanted to share this because...
- 10:47It is so exciting. And it's this huge moment that I'm having. It's my first kind of, you know, ads, I guess, about Female Startup Club. And I feel like I need to share this with you guys since you've been on the journey with me from the beginning, or maybe you've joined, you know, not in the beginning, but along the way, but you're on the journey with me now. And I don't know, it feels like a real moment for me. And it's all thanks to you.
- 11:11and yay, yay for us. So check it out. Let me know what you think. That is all for today. Have the best weekend, and I'll see you next week. Bye.
