- 0:18I'm Jessica and this is a TC presents debauch.
- 0:20He Rambles were a couple of friends review Korean dramas.
- 0:23And on today's episode, I have a returning guest Curtis from the
- 0:28effectuation Cast. Welcome back.
- 0:30Curtis. Hey, hey back.
- 0:34Yeah, it's good to see you again.
- 0:35Good to have you back. This has been a long time
- 0:38coming. We had a great time.
- 0:40Last time you were here for the startup review and there was a
- 0:43little bit of like contention like with you know, Jean I'm so
- 0:47sorry. We're still friends, everyone
- 0:49friends are good, we had a great time on the podcast episode last
- 0:55time you here, so if you want and you haven't listened to it,
- 0:57scroll back in your podcast, for you to give it a listen.
- 1:00Curtis, you were just here in my neck of the woods.
- 1:04Yeah. We could have done this in
- 1:05person. We could have but I mean you
- 1:07know it's your vacation. We're not going to podcasts
- 1:09while you're on vacation with your family, but I hear you had
- 1:11a wonderful time in Orlando. Yeah, who knew yeah, who do have
- 1:16a, but what else do we have here?
- 1:17Like that's it. Oh yeah.
- 1:19It was good because it was kind of a trip of a lifetime because,
- 1:22you know, my wife's a big Disney fan and we're here in
- 1:24California, so we get down to Disneyland once in a while but
- 1:29never. Disney World.
- 1:30So that was a new. The weather was.
- 1:34All right. Okay.
- 1:35And kill us. Didn't kill us.
- 1:37Yeah, it rained a little but we didn't get really stranded or
- 1:43anything because of the rain. So that's good.
- 1:45Is the summer rains are really kind of bipolar like it'll be
- 1:50like 3 p.m. nothing Clear, Blue, Skies, hot outside, and then 305
- 1:55like a massive thunderstorm like you feel like you're gonna get
- 1:58wiped off the face Elysium. Yes, it is fast and it's in kind
- 2:03of intense because it's always like thunderstorms and stuff,
- 2:05but I'm so glad you had wonderful weather and you had a
- 2:07great time with the mouse. You know, outing Kissimmee like
- 2:11Buena Vista, Rico actually works for Disney now so he's all over
- 2:16there. All the time I was looking for
- 2:18him you were looking at actually fun fact by the time this
- 2:23episode comes out, this is old news.
- 2:24But on Monday we're he was like oh yeah.
- 2:28Like we have this cast. I forgot what it's called, but
- 2:31it's like an event where all the cast members kind of, like,
- 2:34throw in their lot and see if they can get in to some coveted
- 2:38spots for basically Park admission, and it's been really
- 2:42like lucrative. Because, of course, the pandemic
- 2:45has kind of made things different at Disney for the cast
- 2:49members, and like their perks and stuff.
- 2:51And so this is like a great night.
- 2:52He said, like from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. we basically like cast
- 2:56members and one guest their one guest have the park to Moves.
- 3:00And we're like I was like freaking out.
- 3:01Like you toys like you want to go and I was like are you
- 3:04joking? Yes you like it's Monday night
- 3:07and I was like I do not care. I will go.
- 3:09I'm so excited for that. If you live in Orlando you
- 3:12everyone knows someone right. Like oh yeah is it impossible to
- 3:16not know someone who works for Disney at that point?
- 3:18I think it is mostly because I think Disney employees.
- 3:22I want to say like 25,000 people, I think it's I think
- 3:26it's my looking at more things like Well, yeah, so that's a ton
- 3:32of people that's a ton Orlando in this one spot.
- 3:35So yeah, chances are pretty high.
- 3:37That. You might know someone who works
- 3:38for Disney or has worked for Disney.
- 3:40I think one of my roommates in college was, actually, she hung
- 3:45out with Mickey, I don't know. Okay.
- 3:48Have you heard of like this expression?
- 3:49So if they play that character, they're not while they're
- 3:52employed with the, you know, Disney and playing this
- 3:55character. They're not allowed to say that
- 3:58they do that. So they'll say, oh, I'm Hanging
- 4:00out with Mickey from 1 to 3 p.m. at Magic Kingdom.
- 4:04If you want to stop by it means they're working from that time
- 4:07as that character. But yeah she was Mickey and that
- 4:10blew my mind because I was like Mickey's played by a girl that's
- 4:13like yeah I don't know, 4 foot 8, it's like a short person as
- 4:17well. So I was like blew my mind.
- 4:19But yeah yeah no I was worried for them though because you know
- 4:22it's Hot 97 degrees testing. It's really hot outside.
- 4:25I think there's like there's a limit to how long they can do it
- 4:28right now. Yeah they have.
- 4:29They have Is it 30 minutes? Yeah, because otherwise I'll
- 4:31just like fate in there and that's not a good look, either.
- 4:33That's not a good look. All right, so we're gonna stick
- 4:38right into the okay. Yeah, actual reason why were we
- 4:40can talk about, I just see all day long, and your experience
- 4:42and everything but yeah, maybe a patreon meal.
- 4:45Yeah. Maybe we'll stick around

- 5:50Oh my God, I don't even know about that stuff.
- 5:53That's a brand-new basically. Okay.
- 5:55So anyway, all the drama that we're reviewing today.
- 5:59Is prison Playbook brr, brr brr, brr, brr, brr, brr.
- 6:05So, read the my drama synopsis it reads, can Jackie.
- 6:09Look a famous baseball. Player is arrested after using
- 6:12excessive force, while chasing a man trying to sexually assault,
- 6:15his sister shockingly to him in the rest of the nation, he is
- 6:18sentenced to a year in prison there.
- 6:20He meets his childhood friend and fellow baseball player, eju
- 6:23know who gave up on baseball after a car accident, but now is
- 6:27a prison guard and one of jelks Biggest fans, the drama revolves
- 6:31around j-hooks time in prison, as well as the prisoners, he
- 6:33meets and events that take place.
- 6:35There it originally aired from November to December, 2012,
- 6:40November, 2017 to January 2018. It's 16 episodes long and we
- 6:46watched it on Netflix, whose it's currently available on
- 6:48Netflix. So it was directed by the same
- 6:52director from the reply series and Hospital playlist.
- 6:56She and we'll know he has basically been Working since
- 7:002012 on these like franchises. I feel like these are franchises
- 7:05so legendary. Yeah, legendary franchises
- 7:07reply. 97, 94-88 and both seasons of Hospital playlist.
- 7:12So, he's got a lot of Ensemble casts under his belt.
- 7:16Yeah, slice-of-life ensemble cast.
- 7:19And then this, you can usually just grab his stuff, pretty
- 7:22easily. It's like you know, five
- 7:23friends. That are doctors.
- 7:24Yes, that's it. You know, you or five friends in
- 7:28the same neighborhood. Good on the same street.
- 7:31Guy goes to jail, you know? Like that's the plot.
- 7:34Yeah, it's great. It's great and it's written by
- 7:37Jung bohyun. And he wrote Rocket Boys from 20
- 7:4021. So I feel like these are kind of
- 7:43good good people to helm this. They have similar Styles.
- 7:48Yeah. And of course we have it stars
- 7:50Pockets. Ooh, as Kim Jae hyuk, he's been
- 7:53in a bunch of stuff movies and TV, but I would say that I
- 7:57watched him in time to hunt from 2020, which is, I think Netflix
- 8:00original movie, and he's like really scared me because he's
- 8:05the one hunting, the protagonist in The yeah, Booyah.
- 8:09He was really scary and then, of course he was just in money.
- 8:12Heist, Korea, joint, economic area, squid game, of course, and
- 8:16all throughout legend of the blue sea, is because of people
- 8:19apparently love that show. I liked him in money, heist, in
- 8:23Squid. You, I never watched money.
- 8:25Highest, I just didn't have the time, and I felt like I needed
- 8:28to watch the original Money hyah.
- 8:29First and then watch the Korean money highest maybe and I heard
- 8:34like kind of I don't know bad things about the Korean money.
- 8:36High School is what not bad things that it was bad bad
- 8:38things because it was just the same as the original like money
- 8:43highest. So I was like, oh that sucks.
- 8:45But I think he's a good villain. Like I think he I honestly think
- 8:49he's better as a villain. I think so you know what?
- 8:51I feel the same way because after watching him and Squid
- 8:54game and in time to hunt that movie, I was just like whoa to
- 8:59see him as You know, sympathetic character in this.
- 9:03I was like this is kind of weird.
- 9:04Yeah, yeah. So his BFF in the prison the
- 9:09other prison guard is Jung. Hyung.
- 9:12Oh man. This is difficult.
- 9:13Jung kyung. Ho, and he plays he's, you know,
- 9:16of course, he is our cardiologist from hospital
- 9:20playlist, both seasons. He's been in life on Mars.
- 9:23Missing nine beating again heartless city which is a Noir
- 9:27crime drama. I One of the only ones that
- 9:30there are engage Rama. So I'd definitely watch
- 9:33heartless City from 2013, that one like kind of blew me away.
- 9:36I was like, whoa, they make this kind of thing, I think you
- 9:40really like, you like life on Mars, right?
- 9:42Yeah, yeah, I mentioned that last time when I really liked
- 9:45it, I mean, if you can, if you eat ignore the fact that signal
- 9:48came out right before it, ah, but he's really good like, you
- 9:52know, he was my favorite character in hospital playlist
- 9:55as well. He's really good, he's great, I
- 9:58think he's really versatile and Who's he's dating?
- 10:01One of the SNSD members, he's like a long term.
- 10:05Oh my God, I forgot her name. Oh, yeah, I got a Google is yes.
- 10:08But she was in anti-fan. So I Married an auntie fan, a
- 10:14show. No move to Heaven.
- 10:16She was also like a side character in that.
- 10:20Yeah. Oh my God, I forgot her name.
- 10:22If you're looking it up and I'll keep going, so you keep good,
- 10:25okay. So this show also Stars Crystal
- 10:28as Kim. Ji.
- 10:29Oh, She's been in police University, bride of Quebec, The
- 10:32Heirs bunch of stuff, of course, she's an idol as well.
- 10:36She used to be an F of f of x that always, like throws me
- 10:40because it's FX, but then I have to like, put on my math cap and
- 10:43be like, no, it's f of x. So she's good as well.
- 10:48What do you think, San Francisco?
- 10:50Yeah, use have sat here like that.
- 10:51She was born in San Fran. Yeah, Jessica Jessica & Krystal
- 10:55were born in San Francisco and then they went to Korea on
- 10:57vacation And a talent scout saw them.
- 11:00Yeah, beautiful sisters. Very talented sisters, Jessica &
- 11:05Krystal. I just like the other not the
- 11:08other day but I don't when I say the other day could be from
- 11:11yesterday till like 3 years ago. So when I decide I mean to say
- 11:14that a few months ago I was talking with Mina from Kpop
- 11:18bookshelf podcast and she did a whole episode on Jessica's book
- 11:25about like her whole like the whole drama and like thing I've
- 11:28heard. I have and I was like she said
- 11:30in passing that Crystal was her sister in the episode and I like
- 11:35had to reach out to her and I was like you blew my mind
- 11:37because I had no idea and I didn't like in and out of Kpop
- 11:40for like years, right? I had no idea the crystalline
- 11:43desk or sisters anyway so that's a little bit about me.
- 11:47I live under a rock currently this we have a nice years apart
- 11:52so that they are, you know, kind of different true and they look
- 11:55kind of different. Like I don't think they look
- 11:57little bit the same anyway. This has a giant ensemble cast
- 12:02and I'll just say the names of these people and who they play?
- 12:06I don't know if you want to say anything else about them
- 12:09necessarily because there's so many.
- 12:10But here we go. It's ich young plays.
- 12:14You Han Yang Han young, loony? AKA loony?
- 12:19He's been in a bunch of stuff like what on happiness?
- 12:22Hi, bye. Mama, all of us are dead.
- 12:24I think all of us are dead. Is kind of like, you can
- 12:26probably pick him out from there.
- 12:28Also started Jeonghan AKA Captain Yoo and T's Paddock
- 12:33really great few years here because he started Snowdrop,
- 12:37which we covered earlier in season 3.
- 12:39He starred in DP, one spring night, something in the rain,
- 12:43which again, we covered last season.
- 12:44I did not realize that he was in this drama when I picked this
- 12:49drama for season 3. So apparently, we're like a
- 12:52jung-han, like kdrama podcast. Are you doing a bunch of other
- 12:58stuff? Well, so we're also doing a
- 13:02While. You Were Sleeping.
- 13:03Yeah, and he's second weed in that, so I was like, oh crap.
- 13:07Like I had no idea that he was in prison Playbook until it was
- 13:11too late, but that's okay. He wasn't like the headliner,
- 13:14but he becomes one of the main green.
- 13:16Yeah. He becomes part of the ensemble
- 13:17cast like, you know, regular okay.
- 13:20We also have to remove song as mincheol he is prolific.
- 13:25I mean, most of these actors are prolific.
- 13:28They've been in so many. Many things mu song has been in
- 13:32heartless City with Jung kyung. Ho yeah, he's been an Empress Ki
- 13:37reply 1988. Of course he's worked with the
- 13:40director before uncontrollably. Fine weightlifting fairy mr.
- 13:44Sunshine Insider so many things. Inside our I think he's also an
- 13:48inmate like a prisoner, it sounds so he's just he's been
- 13:52around Paco, son plays. I don't know how to say the qais
- 13:59Al. I think it's Heist yet.
- 14:01Okay? Straight have a nice day, my
- 14:03oats that's how they spell it. That's how they spell it will
- 14:06say it. How they spell it iced.
- 14:09The white hair dude right here. Dude I remember him most from my
- 14:12mr. Right.
- 14:13He was one of the brothers in my mr.
- 14:15And then we'll say Jung Min sung as dr.
- 14:18Go dr. Koh, you want, you want to guess
- 14:21how old park cosine is that? Oh Lord 15:57.
- 14:27Who's younger than me? He's 49.
- 14:29Shut up, shut up. Waiting on.
- 14:34He gets the roles because of the white hair.
- 14:36He play. He can play like up to 60.
- 14:38Yeah, he's easily. It's not fair.
- 14:41Okay, so he's has an ambiguous age and can play whatever,
- 14:46whatever character feels like that's great.
- 14:49Okay, so that's our giant ensemble cast.
- 14:52So after all this Curtis, what did you think of prison play?
- 14:56Look In a nutshell, I liked it didn't love it.
- 15:02You know it's one of those I downloaded like six episodes for
- 15:07the flight over to Orlando, you know, it was fine.
- 15:11It's a good download for the flight, kind of drama, you know,
- 15:15moves along. It doesn't, wow.
- 15:17You you know, there's not huge plot twists.
- 15:21There's no huge romance that well, we'll get into that.
- 15:24But yeah, I give it 3, ish, threesome.
- 15:27Nothing. Okay, seriously and a half. 33
- 15:30half, Yes, somewhere around there.
- 15:32Yeah. Okay.
- 15:33So my thoughts are similar to yours.
- 15:37Probably, I'm a little more positive about the drama than
- 15:39you are, but I feel like the first episode was really, really
- 15:42strong a damn near perfect first episode.
- 15:46And I think I said this on the, on the, on the socials travels,
- 15:49like did I just watched a perfect first episode because it
- 15:52really thrilled me and it kept me on my toes and I was like, I
- 15:55feel the impending doom. This character like very heavily
- 15:59and it just ends on a massive Cliffhanger as well.
- 16:04So it was just really well written and then as it went on,
- 16:08I was like, oh my God, these episodes are so long.
- 16:13Yeah, the episode length was a killer for me and there was also
- 16:17a killer, for the reply series, especially for me watching
- 16:22reply, 1988 was I, it took me months, I want to say like, Six
- 16:27months to finish reply 1988, because it was so long each
- 16:31episode was like just shy of like an hour and a half and not
- 16:36that much happens and it's not exactly.
- 16:38It is it Slice of Life, right? Yeah.
- 16:41So, it's your in their daily lives little things happening
- 16:45here and there not a clear through line or goal for the
- 16:50entire season or for the character.
- 16:52He's just like trying to get through each day.
- 16:56And I was very bothered by the episode length to be quite
- 17:00honest which I was like oh my God I forgot how much I hate
- 17:02these this length of episode I was really like upset because
- 17:08like clockwork I would stop the episode Posite around an hour
- 17:12and I'd be like there's one wish it was over much left.
- 17:16Oh my God, it was so, I was struggling.
- 17:18I was on The Struggle Bus with this one, but that being said, I
- 17:22think some episodes played better than others for sure.
- 17:26Maybe towards the end of the show.
- 17:28I was like, this is actually feeling better like to watch
- 17:32this and sit here for an hour and a half.
- 17:34But ultimately, I think I really appreciated the drama.
- 17:38And I loved the characters of the drama.
- 17:42What I watch this again, probably not.
- 17:46Yeah, I think I generally would recommend this if you love slice
- 17:49of drugs, slice-of-life dramas because usually I feel like
- 17:54people who loves to Slice of Life drawing.
- 17:56Mama's can get through this kind of like, Flatline in plot.
- 18:02Yeah, for sure. If you, if you like reply or
- 18:05Hospital playlist. Mmm, you like it.
- 18:07Yeah. So, that is my general thoughts
- 18:11on it. I thought that the Kissel, what
- 18:15were the worst parts of a show for you in a general sense?
- 18:21Yeah, probably the the pot, the pacing of it, I guess.
- 18:26Yeah. Just sit.
- 18:27Just not enough plot. Not for me, you know, the whole
- 18:32like I get if the baseball plot is kind of the main plot.
- 18:36There's not really a whole lot going on there.
- 18:39So it's just relationships, which is, which is fine but that
- 18:43just didn't always move along. Yeah, I thought that some
- 18:46characters were really endearing and some storylines were really
- 18:50strong but then other ones were just like, okay.
- 18:53This is really like, I'm waiting for something to happen that was
- 18:57the general feeling for A lot of the show I do feel like they
- 19:01nailed character development in a weird scent.
- 19:04Like obviously it takes so long for the trauma to finish that of
- 19:07course, these characters end up in a totally different spot and
- 19:11a few of the characters really do have a giant Ark and they do
- 19:14a complete 180 on them. Do I feel like they did that for
- 19:17the main character? I don't know if they did that
- 19:21for jelq which I feel like they probably should have because it
- 19:25sees the main character but Well, that was the one thing is
- 19:29that, you know, they started out and a vamp is one line where
- 19:33they're like, is this guy really dumb, or is he really smart,
- 19:36right? And I don't know if they totally
- 19:40figured it out, you know, or the, the way he played it
- 19:43because there are times when yeah, he's supposed to be dumb
- 19:45as dirt, right? It's okay.
- 19:47Really just dumb a simple guy. But then there's other times
- 19:51when he's, you know, plotting and really clever and really
- 19:55scheming in a good way. But yes, I don't know, I didn't
- 20:00totally by the fact that like, you know, something like Forrest
- 20:02Gump. You know, he plays like the
- 20:06really dull guy but he's just lucky things happen to him.
- 20:09This guy made stuff happened, you know, he didn't just luck
- 20:13into everything, so that was kind of.
- 20:15Yeah, I mean, I didn't totally sense that he was really dumb,
- 20:21but yes, I just thought he was like, lazy.
- 20:26Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Like lazy in the sense that I
- 20:29don't feel like listening to you, like everything that you
- 20:32say, because otherwise, if I'm intently listening to you and
- 20:36filing away, everything you that you say for later that would
- 20:39require too much work, like, he's like, lazy in that sense,
- 20:42like, in relationships and in putting forth effort.
- 20:45Yeah. So, a lot of the time when
- 20:47people are talking to him or, you know, he's not quite like
- 20:51responding in the correct way. He's just like, oh yeah, like
- 20:54really absent-minded the whole time.
- 20:57Yeah. Really self-absorbed.
- 20:59And I think they, they kind of managed to sell the
- 21:03self-absorbed athlete pro athlete side of him better than
- 21:08he's just dumb because he didn't like you said he like didn't
- 21:13look into everything in the show, he was an active schemer.
- 21:18I don't know what's the right word, but he was, you know,
- 21:22serving it back. A lot of the time and was very
- 21:27Smart about his decisions and who to involve and who not to
- 21:30involve and how to resolve situations.
- 21:35Yeah. So I yeah.
- 21:38What if we get say this for the spoiler section?
- 21:40But the relationship would you think?
- 21:42Oh my gosh. So you're so the relationship
- 21:46between him and crystals character Geo, I am on the fence
- 21:52about it. I had someone on Tick Tock, so I
- 21:56made a funny video of the me watching the show, during a
- 21:58funny part of the show, funny scene and someone commented and
- 22:02was like, oh, I am so on the fence about the relationship
- 22:06between You know, him injeel because there's a message,
- 22:11massive, age, Gap there and it feels predatory.
- 22:16Yeah. Earlier if he's the commenter
- 22:19was like a feels predatory so I feels very uncomfortable and I
- 22:23totally, I just comment. It was like, oh my God will
- 22:24bring that up on the show. 100% agree with that person.
- 22:28Yeah, yeah. Really kind of worked it a
- 22:31little bit where it was like she, you know, she grew up with
- 22:34him as an older brother. Whale there.
- 22:39Okay. So what is the age Gap?
- 22:40Something like 10 to 15 years between them?
- 22:43Yeah. In real life.
- 22:45It's like 13 years. Yeah.
- 22:47I bet you that's an old face to the.
- 22:49Does he have? Yeah.
- 22:51And so they surprisingly, they had him play the 20 year, old
- 22:55self, right? They had him play 19 or 20 year
- 22:58old. They had him play it, no idea.
- 23:01He had a double it like a suburb accident.
- 23:04They did it first and then and then they brought him in, maybe
- 23:07he's supposed to be A college or something like that.
- 23:08So true. Yeah.
- 23:09Okay. Right.
- 23:10And she was still like, yeah. Hyung.
- 23:13Yeah. She's supposed to be.
- 23:15Yeah. So I don't know.
- 23:17Yeah. I feel bad because he's like,
- 23:22whipped for her. Like there is, if it's not her,
- 23:24it's nobody, you know what I'm saying?
- 23:26Yeah, but she, I don't, I don't condone large age gaps like
- 23:31that. I just don't.
- 23:32I've said this before. On the podcast that large a
- 23:34chaps really irk me, especially on the think I said it all.
- 23:37The goblin episode, which is another famous age Gap.
- 23:40I wouldn't say this is a famous age Gap, but it Should it have
- 23:45happened? Should he stuck a should have
- 23:47stuck around in her life when she's like yeah he's obviously
- 23:51madly in love with her and she's like in school still just
- 23:56getting into college, right? You know he's he's been waiting.
- 24:01You know times it feels like he's been waiting and grooming
- 24:03her all this time. Yeah.
- 24:05If he if he was like 60 and she's 50 like, all right, that's
- 24:08fine. And she's 1931.
- 24:12Yes. Yeah, he's he's in another phase
- 24:17in his life. But again, he's like, very
- 24:19childish and not very mature like in his mind and he's stupid
- 24:23half the time. So I guess he's like, she's
- 24:28smarter than him, for sure. But yeah, I don't know.
- 24:31I I have not given that relationship a pass in my mind.
- 24:36So that's my answer to your question regarding that
- 24:40relationship. It's so some ETFs work better
- 24:43than others. Just And I know, I know what did
- 24:46you think of the character Looney?
- 24:49Yeah, I did put that as one of the arcs that I wasn't a huge
- 24:54fan. I was shocked with.
- 24:56Yeah. Most talked about the spoiler
- 24:58later, like, what? Actually happens with this
- 25:00character. But okay, what are your?
- 25:03Yeah, I mean, so is he is he acting crazy, and then or is he
- 25:09bite, you know, is he multiple personality or, you know?
- 25:14No I didn't totally get what they were going for with him.
- 25:17You know what? Let's just jump into spoilers
- 25:19now so that we can like talk to our hearts content about what
- 25:23the hell is happening and we'll do that right after this.
- 25:34You want to come in? Okay, we're on the other side of
- 25:37spoilers, if you do not care to be spoiled about prison
- 25:39Playbook, or if you've already watched it, then, let's go.
- 25:43Alright, greatest, we were talking about Looney and how his
- 25:47kit, like his character Arc happened and it was very sad and
- 25:51disappointing to me, like, what do you feel?
- 25:55Yeah, and unnecessary and I know you felt.
- 26:00It was unnecessary. So, I kind of feel like they
- 26:03thought the showrunner saw. Okay.
- 26:06So we have happy endings for all of these people, like,
- 26:08basically, every inmate that we have stayed with is having some
- 26:13sort of happy ending, but as soon as loony gets discharged,
- 26:18he goes right back to his old ways and immediately becomes a
- 26:23druggie again and then gets arrested in a sting operation
- 26:28immediate. Like not even an hour or so
- 26:30after he's been Released from prison.
- 26:34And it was just brutal because he's been such a source of
- 26:38comedic relief throughout the show and he's this crazy
- 26:43character. Like, you can't, you can't cage
- 26:46him. He's talking shit all the time
- 26:48and he is very touchy feely and he's actually gay and that's
- 26:53like a big part of his story and kind of like showing homophobia
- 27:00as well in Korea, which we can talk.
- 27:02About briefly, but I feel like when they release him after he
- 27:05promised his lover, like no, I'm, you know, clean, don't
- 27:09worry about it. I'm going to meet you here at
- 27:11the what was it? The something the restaurant
- 27:16that was right across from the jail and no like he decides.
- 27:20No, I'm going to go back to my old habits, I mean, they kind of
- 27:25hinted at the fact that it is, you know, his mom was very
- 27:29trauma inducing and that they I kind of hinted that his lover
- 27:34was. Maybe not 100% committed.
- 27:36Yeah, I mean they hinted at that which would have made more sense
- 27:40if he had got back to his life and he realized things are just
- 27:44still horrible, right? But they got like I don't even
- 27:48know how this guy found him. Like the same guy who got him
- 27:50hooked in the first place. Where was he?
- 27:53Yeah, he's an Uber drivers. Like, you shut up in a van and
- 27:57he's sitting in the back seat, like, who was driving the van?
- 28:01Thank you. Yeah, it was weird and then
- 28:04where the hell were they? Yeah and then it's a sting
- 28:09operation. Yeah.
- 28:09So it's not weird. Yeah and there's a sting
- 28:13operation but they left the guy that was running the sting like
- 28:15the actual drug dealer alone like yeah and I didn't even get
- 28:20you know, so he he was Looney and then he would switch into
- 28:24serious guy. Yeah.
- 28:26But then whenever someone met him at the jail for a visitation
- 28:29he went back to pretty much serious guy.
- 28:32He was flip-flopping a lot between being loony.
- 28:36I'm being like normal or whatever.
- 28:39And I think, the way that I perceive the character was for
- 28:44the most part I was like, oh, he's like crazy like
- 28:47through-and-through, he's crazy. Like that's his personality or
- 28:49whatever. And when he's on drugs, he's
- 28:51very calm and serious and normal.
- 28:55Hmm, which I feel like a similar character that so that would be
- 28:59mr. Gu from my liberation.
- 29:02Because when he's on alcohol he's very calm and gentle and
- 29:06like chill and when he's off he's like very not aggressive
- 29:13and like it's not like a 180 but you get my drift.
- 29:18Yeah, I think the conversation that he has with junk hands
- 29:21character later down the line because he's very touchy feely
- 29:25with all of the inmates, like all the time.
- 29:28Like he's constantly touching somebody and junk hand.
- 29:32That character Captain. You does not stand for it and
- 29:35finally they're alone together and he's like, I see what you're
- 29:37doing. And he basically confronts
- 29:40Looney and he's like, I don't believe for a second that you're
- 29:44that you're like like this, you're putting on an act for
- 29:47everybody. But I know I see through you and
- 29:50I was like, oh damn, like I think he's right.
- 29:52Like I think he's just been acting for like a year straight.
- 29:58Just acting crazy acting a fool. Yeah.
- 30:02Which which I could get behind that, but it's just was
- 30:05inconsistent and is more confusing than Interesting.
- 30:09You know, I feel that it was the character when he was crazy,
- 30:13loony reminded me of Stuart from MADtv.
- 30:16Do you remember that sketch from MADtv know back in the day?
- 30:21You don't. Oh my God.
- 30:23So it's basically I forget the freaking actor's name but he's
- 30:27like six foot something giant. Right and he plays a a child's
- 30:33name Stewart. You know does this not ringing a
- 30:36bell? No way from from Saturday life
- 30:39or know from MADtv, you know before it died.
- 30:42Yeah. No it wasn't a huge MADtv.
- 30:44Oh my God. So that was like my era when I
- 30:47was like growing up. Was I never watched SNL but I
- 30:51watched bad TV and this character was the same as loony
- 30:55because he had this like, high-pitched was and just play
- 31:00like crazy the whole time at the giant child and I loved every
- 31:04second of it. B.
- 31:05So loony reminded me of Stewart from Mad TV and maybe I'll like
- 31:09throw in like a YouTube video of like one of the old MADtv
- 31:12sketches in the show notes for you guys.
- 31:15So you see what I'm talking about.
- 31:18Speaking of Comedy, I think the bird whistling was killing me
- 31:23like by a couple of times I was like, okay, this is actually
- 31:27really funny placement for the bird whistle.
- 31:29Yeah. It was like that's the same as
- 31:33like the goat or sheep noise. In the apply Siri.
- 31:36Yeah, I don't know if I like like it necessarily.
- 31:42It's almost like, you know, or too dumb to understand that this
- 31:44is humor, right, right. We're right.
- 31:46Like, I don't know. It's the same as a fake audience
- 31:50laughter in a sitcom or something like, yeah.
- 31:54I guess there was a punch line here, and I missed it.
- 31:56No, I get it very well. The Time to Say Goodbye song by
- 32:00Sarah Brightman. Yeah, I've locked up music.
- 32:07I could not get over. The that was his walk up song,
- 32:10right? I could not get over it.
- 32:12So what would be your walk-up song?
- 32:16If You're an athlete and like it they call you never.
- 32:18It's time. Yeah.
- 32:21Especially if you're a closer baseball, do you want to, you
- 32:24know, get the adrenaline going, right?
- 32:27Um, I don't know. I like cake.
- 32:29You know. Cake is 0.
- 32:32I don't think I do. Yeah.
- 32:33Another they're fun. They're from the 90s.
- 32:36I think. But okay it gets your adrenaline
- 32:38gets good, driving music, you know something like that.
- 32:41But yeah, not Sarah Brightman. I do not Sarah Brightman.
- 32:43Time to Say Goodbye. I'm not gonna choose Pavarotti.
- 32:46Yeah. So I this is a funny story,
- 32:50quick story. So many years ago Miguel who's
- 32:54been on the show a few times and Rico, of course, is my usual
- 32:57co-host. We went out like late to have
- 32:59coffee in this like huben Restaurant.
- 33:02I drive and we were sitting at the bar having coffee and we
- 33:06asked each other the square, like, what would be your walk-up
- 33:08song If you were in baseball and like, you're up to bat?
- 33:12And we were like, going back and like, me and Rico like trying to
- 33:15like muscle through it. Like, oh yeah.
- 33:16Like I would do this. Oh no.
- 33:17But I like the song Better whatever and Miguel just takes a
- 33:21sip of his coffee and goes mine would be Duel of the Fates from
- 33:26John Williams. Did you know from the prequel
- 33:29Star Wars series and we were both like, oh shit.
- 33:32That's perfect. He had that ready to go?
- 33:35Yes, yeah. That in the chamber, bro.
- 33:38So I have never forgotten it and I want to steal it for this
- 33:43instance because I can totally see a closer coming up.
- 33:48You want to get the crowd pumped or you just have this orchestral
- 33:51like that, that it can Duel of the Fates of coral.
- 33:56It'd just be a larger-than-life song, right?
- 33:58Okay, okay yeah God, that tickled me.
- 34:02Endlessly. When the time to take a pause
- 34:05and then it was the ringtone on the photo God.
- 34:09No he'll do. All right well we talked to a
- 34:13lot of negatives. It was your favorite part of the
- 34:15show. Oh my God.
- 34:16So I had so many funny moments that I loved actually.
- 34:20First of all Jean Valjean was one of the inmates and then he
- 34:23got a discharge. I spent the majority of a show,
- 34:28not real. It not that the majority of the
- 34:30show but I think it took two or three episodes Episodes before I
- 34:32realized that they nicknamed him Jean Valjean because he was in
- 34:36jail for stealing bread bread. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:42Like a whole truckload of bread. Yeah, the up the ante, right?
- 34:46Because he was in prison for stealing a giant truck bread,
- 34:51which is, of course of like the value of that is a felony, but I
- 34:56found it. So moving when he was out on the
- 34:58constructions job and he actually does steal the wallet
- 35:01for Of those construction workers and even though he does
- 35:05this even though he's two weeks away from parole and the Odyssey
- 35:09who's like with him so kind to him and gives him the benefit of
- 35:12the doubt and he ends up throwing away the wallet and I
- 35:16was like, oh my God, they just took his story straight from
- 35:19leam is because it's like Jean Valjean turning over a new Leaf.
- 35:24When the good priest gives him the silver that he stole seems
- 35:27like the same kind of motion, the same kind of feeling behind
- 35:31it. So I like the Jean, Valjean some
- 35:34clever. Yeah, there's some clever
- 35:35writing. Yes, clever clever.
- 35:38They asked j-hook, what's the capital of the u.s.?
- 35:43And he goes, New York Yankees. You know, I actually I bet if
- 35:49you asked a lot of Koreans. Right.
- 35:52Right. Yeah.
- 35:53Maybe like New York, they may say that.
- 35:56Yeah. Like why is it Washington d.c.
- 35:58All right. You know what scene I really
- 36:01liked was So Joon ho his best friend.
- 36:05Yeah. Is given some errands to run for
- 36:08him. Hmm.
- 36:09And one of the errands was to go Comfort his sister because his
- 36:12sister feels really guilty. Yeah.
- 36:14Because, you know, he was protecting her.
- 36:16So joon-ho goes over there and she's still crying.
- 36:19It's been it's been a month, right?
- 36:20And she's still crying. Yeah.
- 36:23And so he goes over there and he does his long speech and he
- 36:27makes it seem like he's memorized the speech, right?
- 36:31That she Elk had given him and it's you know, it's a long one
- 36:35like oh I would still do it. No matter what your my dear
- 36:37sister, I love you bub. It goes on for a while and it
- 36:41really saves her, right? But when you get back to the car
- 36:45and then the list that Jayhawk had given him a just says, tell
- 36:49my sister's, it's okay. So yeah.
- 36:53Do you know, it taken them himself to deliver this really
- 36:56touchy. Yeah, that was that was, that
- 36:59was a really I loved, you know, because he's so And like he just
- 37:04seems like he's above it all, and he has so much pride and
- 37:08yeah, arrogance. I would say, yeah, you know, by
- 37:12the end, he kind of succumbs to Lieutenant pings ideology, which
- 37:18is, you know, don't like hold it all in like, if you're upset,
- 37:22like, you know, call them out on their shit and there's no need
- 37:26for a disrespectful. Inmate to have like a positive
- 37:30reaction from you and for For you to necessarily reward them
- 37:33with being nice, back to them or not serving it right back to
- 37:37them. And so at the end, you know,
- 37:39he's like, oh yeah, like lights out bastards or whatever you
- 37:42said is like the end of the wing.
- 37:45I do have a funny moment with him, there's so many but this
- 37:49one really stuck out to me was when he goes over to Jack's
- 37:52house again and fixes old bathroom light or whatever, and
- 37:57the younger sister gets home, go straight to the bathroom and
- 38:00notices that the light is Fixed and she said, and the mom shouts
- 38:04out. Oh yeah.
- 38:04It was Juno, he stopped by and fixed it.
- 38:08And she goes. That's why he's my dream guy.
- 38:11Boom, like she looks up and he's literally right at the kitchen
- 38:14table like mid noodle like staring at her.
- 38:18It's amazing and then he pleases and he goes like you're my dream
- 38:22girl to like he certainly so good.
- 38:25I love their camaraderie in the moments that they were together.
- 38:29They had good lines. I thought you know because he is
- 38:32Is he comes across as arrogant, but I think, you know, it's an
- 38:34act right? And she knows.
- 38:36Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he knows it too.
- 38:38And so they're they're back and forth.
- 38:41I thought were really, you know, they're definitely a better.
- 38:43Couple of the two couples. Yeah, you're not lying.
- 38:48I have here, the mincheol wakes up and talks to Jayhawk and he
- 38:53asked if like oh are we missing your girl?
- 38:56Because throughout the whole show he's like pining for her.
- 38:58You like misses her the whole time.
- 39:01And Mitchell says, oh yeah. I, you know, had a girlfriend
- 39:05wants to, and I miss her a lot to back in the day and J Hooks
- 39:10really taken aback like, oh, like you had a girlfriend, like,
- 39:13back in the day and he was like, yeah, I had girlfriends when I
- 39:16was younger. When I was young.
- 39:18I looked like, Paco, go. Yeah, I literally had to pause
- 39:24because I was laughing so hard because there's an obvious
- 39:28reply, 1988 reference because he played Paco.
- 39:31Yes Father in reply 1988. So yeah, it's a good call back.
- 39:35What a lot of these guys made cameos in hospital playlist.
- 39:39Yeah, speaking of cameos from hospital playlist.
- 39:42I thought that we would get a cameo from the liver surgeon
- 39:47from from hospital playlist because Chi stands up going to
- 39:51the hospital to get it to donate his liver to his son, right?
- 39:56And I was like, oh perfect opportunity for the liver doctor
- 40:01and I forget his name to come in, like, do this at have like a
- 40:04cameo and no, they didn't. Well yeah, this came out first
- 40:09though, so I think true. So then when he did, he wasn't
- 40:12delivering success yet. No one would get it.
- 40:16No, no. No.
- 40:17Get it. Yeah, I know, but I wish it was
- 40:20like a Pixar deal. Like it was already in the works
- 40:22and they had already started. Like, like my steps ahead.
- 40:26Yeah, I don't think they thought that.
- 40:30Okay. So, So we're there any moments
- 40:32that really surprised you or were very sad for you.
- 40:40Okay, I'll start. So yeah.
- 40:43In episode 3, this is when I was like, oh shit, because I, I was
- 40:48wondering when we were gonna get a negative side to prison,
- 40:52right, right. Because first of all, I don't
- 40:56know if you've ever like visited a jail or prison or something.
- 40:59It's like, and that's a great fucking sucks.
- 41:01It's terrible. I'm scared.
- 41:02It's actually very scary. Yeah.
- 41:04And so I was like, oh shit. Like when is this going to get
- 41:07real? You know what I'm saying?
- 41:08Episode 3 gets real because what the chief of the workshop.
- 41:14The wood chop. Yeah.
- 41:16Like came on to J hook and was like about to rape him like he
- 41:19had all his guys are like holding down.
- 41:21I was like, oh my God, this turn into Shawshank so like yeah,
- 41:26suddenly because that's seen escalated so fast and all of a
- 41:30sudden like he comes closer and then he like sniffs his neck, I
- 41:34like lost my shit. Yeah, I absolutely love my job.
- 41:38And then, of course, That's the moment, at the end of the, the
- 41:40end of the episode, of course, and Juno shows up to save him
- 41:45and then she realized yeah. Oh, shit, he transferred to the
- 41:48penitentiary. Yeah, keep an eye on him.
- 41:50Yeah, yeah, yeah. That lately.
- 41:53Wrecked me correct me? Yeah, no, yeah, for sure.
- 41:56Like, if you, if you watch this show, you start to think, you
- 41:59know, prison seems pretty nice. They have their own little
- 42:02Cubbies it out because they have six guys in a room.
- 42:06Which first of all, that's unbelievable to me.
- 42:08Me to begin with the person that I visited.
- 42:12It was I think 2 or 2 to 4 guys in a room.
- 42:16It was like very small. I think the the bunks like came
- 42:21out from the wall like as if you were in a boat like a cruise
- 42:24ship and you have nowhere to hide.
- 42:26So there's nowhere to hide stuff.
- 42:27There's no storage whatsoever. Is it all stays fairly any
- 42:31personal effects? They had like an entire
- 42:33cubbyhole wall. Yeah, I've stopped like snacks
- 42:37snacks, books. Like all kinds of stuff T they
- 42:41had, you know, they had regular toothbrushes.
- 42:44I was so confused with toothbrushes.
- 42:46I was like how can they allow toothbrushes.
- 42:48They can easily make that into a shank.
- 42:50Yeah. Like I was like, dude, literally
- 42:52handing them to like weapons. Yeah, the Chopsticks.
- 42:55I was like, OK. I get their plastic but still
- 42:57like, that's yeah, a weapon. And they had like chores to do
- 43:02chores to do. Like the, I was so confused
- 43:06about the life that they LED here in the Isn't is it seemed
- 43:09so cushy? Hmm.
- 43:12So chi chi? Yeah, and like, the Erin guy
- 43:16seemed to have the full run of the place.
- 43:18The Aaron guys who got like actual little card that let them
- 43:23into the room and stuff. Like what?
- 43:25Yeah, that's another inmate, why does it get free reign of the
- 43:29place? Like, yeah, towards the end,
- 43:31they were just like walking around.
- 43:32Just gonna walk around at will no pretense.
- 43:36You're just walking by the incinerator.
- 43:38Do you mean meet you by the incinerator of the night?
- 43:43I'm an inmate in a Penitentiary was clearly you can though I do.
- 43:47Yeah. Clearly there's something,
- 43:49they're not telling us here because I'm like, that was, oh
- 43:53my God, that bothered me so much when the chief so they return
- 43:56that character, right? He comes back to wreak more
- 43:59havoc and he's meet me. I beg your pardon step into my
- 44:08office. You think I am all the time.
- 44:10You got an office. Wait, what's going on here?
- 44:12Yeah. Yeah, they and literally at the
- 44:16end they're just hanging out in the greenhouse you know,
- 44:17practicing ball there. Yeah.
- 44:19Any time they wanted midnight noon, they're just whatever they
- 44:23wanted. Oh my God.
- 44:24Yeah so in episode 5 we get a bunch of stuff happening but I
- 44:28think the most important thing was they revealed that j-hook
- 44:32had stomach cancer when he was younger.
- 44:37Yeah, I don't think they should have written in a kit like
- 44:41cancer into the story. I just don't think it was
- 44:44necessary as an excuse for why he can't get sold shoulder
- 44:47surgery. Was that it was that the excuse
- 44:51to say he they were saying like yeah well it's not just the
- 44:54shoulder the reason we can't operate it's because he's had
- 44:57cancer before. Oh I really like that.
- 44:59It's something like that but it didn't make sense.
- 45:01It didn't make sense. Yeah it just did it I just
- 45:04didn't think it was necessary at all to have.
- 45:07So he has like this pity party in jail, the warden like reveals
- 45:12this training greenhouse and is like oh look I made this for you
- 45:18and All these inmates are there. Trying to celebrate his birthday
- 45:21in jail? And he's like, I don't want to
- 45:23do baseball anymore, he has like a whole pity party and says, I
- 45:26used to have cancer. Like, I'm the unluckiest guy in
- 45:28the whole world and scoffs that his nickname, which is Phoenix
- 45:32was right and that he's wanted to quit so many times and little
- 45:38and he's just like, has an entire pity party and I thought
- 45:44there's just no need for a cancer cancer diagnosis that had
- 45:48no Bearing whatsoever on the rest of the show?
- 45:50Yeah, it was like shoulder cancer, right, right, right.
- 45:57Yeah, yeah. I don't know about that one
- 46:00either. That was I was pretty surprised
- 46:03with jeonghan storyline because I wanted him to be the bad guy
- 46:09in the story. That would have been cool.
- 46:12I wanted him so bad to be the actual murder.
- 46:14I wanted him to have actually done what they accused him of
- 46:18and like sent him to jail for, but that wasn't the case they
- 46:22backed up on that. And the real murderer was a
- 46:26songy that actor who played the second male lead in Hometown
- 46:31Cha-cha-cha. Oh that was him.
- 46:33Yes that was it I didn't recognize him.
- 46:36Okay I was like what This is a this was weird.
- 46:42Obviously he did. Okay as a Devil, I would say,
- 46:47but I was very surprised. And then I was also surprised
- 46:51that jeonghan all went on to star in DP.
- 46:55Yeah, it also has which has to do heavily with bullying in the
- 47:00military. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:01Yeah. You know which is all about the
- 47:04same thing as this character is going through, right?
- 47:08So I thought that was really ironic.
- 47:09I don't know if it was ironic or necessarily that he was probably
- 47:13really affected by the story because I don't think you
- 47:15necessarily sign up for a heavy show, like DP.
- 47:19If you're not like fully committed to what it's telling,
- 47:22you know what I'm saying? What I had to look it up, I had
- 47:24to look up. You know, who the producers were
- 47:26in their eyes? I thought there would be a
- 47:27connection mmm because I was like, this is too similar to not
- 47:31be related, but I guess it, I guess it wasn't totally related
- 47:36but yeah, but something. Oh, go ahead.
- 47:40I was gonna say, for sure, for sure, that the writers of DP
- 47:43probably watched this, you You know, I probably have solutely.
- 47:46I don't think there's a person that worked on DP in the show
- 47:49Runners. Are there probably they, they
- 47:52definitely watch it. There's no way that they didn't
- 47:54watch prison Playbook. And were like, oh, like we're
- 47:57good. We're writing this story.
- 47:59That's basically the same thing. However they were, they said
- 48:02this could be a show and made it a whole show.
- 48:06Yeah, they did. They made it a whole show.
- 48:07It was really moving. Yep.
- 48:08Know he's innocent doing half the guys in the cellar and is
- 48:12that is the thing too. Is that?
- 48:14Like not only is this This prison like a Utopia, but all
- 48:17the guys in j-hooks fell are like model citizens, like Not
- 48:22Innocent of what they're accused of, huh?
- 48:26No, cuz Caius actually did what he was in.
- 48:28Yeah, but it was like, but again yeah, you're not not a murderer,
- 48:34not a rapist, not a, you know, gangster or anything.
- 48:37He's just like a regular dude who's like obsessed with himself
- 48:40and obsessed with money. Episode 10 dr.
- 48:44Koh got transferred. And I was like, oh no, this is
- 48:48like going like Game of Thrones kind of or it's just like bone,
- 48:51they hit you with it. There was no warning or
- 48:53anything. And that shocked me.
- 48:56So I was then after that, I was like, I'm prepared I'm ready for
- 49:00the next one because they're gonna, they're gonna keep
- 49:02breaking up the band because every time you think in your
- 49:04head, oh man, this is like a really good group of guys who
- 49:06got here. I love her camaraderie, but
- 49:08we'll look, someone gets transferred.
- 49:10Yeah, well, I mean, that is kind of a clever way of bringing in
- 49:13new characters. Hmm.
- 49:14But yeah, they're rolling them in and out like he was another
- 49:18innocent guy, right? Another completely innocent
- 49:21dude, Fall Guy for his company or whatever.
- 49:24Oh man, that was lame. I thought that was lame to.
- 49:28It was very emotional in the moment.
- 49:29The like for what? Like he could have just said, no
- 49:33and then gotten fired and they just moved him to another gum.
- 49:37Like there was like why the hell would you say yes to doing that
- 49:41to taking the ball? Yeah, yeah, there's no reason.
- 49:44Yeah, it was Dom so I haven't hear my notes, the subjugation
- 49:48of crony Because this one character had a complete
- 49:54character Arc. I was shocked that they gave it
- 49:57to this character. Yeah, but the same guy that
- 50:00stabbed J hook in the first episode.
- 50:04Yeah. And was super antagonistic to
- 50:06him. Once he returned into the the
- 50:09show. He's got a full character Arc.
- 50:14Yeah realizes that he wasn't being treated like a human while
- 50:18he was in prison and is Very thankful and regretful for what
- 50:22he did to Jo can like, becomes his like training partner and
- 50:27he's like, he's like the catcher and everything.
- 50:30What? Yeah.
- 50:32Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 50:33He's the one who had the most complete Ark.
- 50:35Yeah. He has a most complete, but
- 50:39yeah, it's kind of like yeah, he's got this Heart of Gold but
- 50:41he just kills people and stuff because he's told to do it by
- 50:43bad people, or something like that.
- 50:45I don't know what his deal was, but he needed a leader.
- 50:50Like, he was not, he was only a follower that was there saying.
- 50:53Yeah, he needs someone to follow.
- 50:56Hmm, yeah, but it's funny when crony and I start dating the
- 51:00same girl from another person. Oh my God, that was hysterical
- 51:06and they Pelicans are prepping for her visit and they're like,
- 51:09oh yeah, she's gonna visit me. Oh no, she's gonna visit me and
- 51:12they're doing different things. Oh my God, and the day comes and
- 51:16kisses the one that gets a visitor, but it's his ex-wife.
- 51:20Wife, the wonderful. I Jemima Kim Sun, Yong, also
- 51:24from reply, 1988 everywhere, from every show, everything
- 51:28every show ever loved her. And she puts on a tremendous
- 51:32performance. As she says that their son is
- 51:35dying of liver failure. I was like, that is the most
- 51:39craziest bait-and-switch that they have done in the show thus
- 51:42far because you think he's gonna go see this other prisoner who
- 51:46got out. And no, it's not his pen pal,
- 51:50it's his ex-wife and like, it's the circumstances are dire.
- 51:54Yeah. And of course, this son hates
- 51:56him because he was never there. I thought this was, I believe I,
- 52:02you know, I bought into this, when it was pretty brutal, this
- 52:06was the precursor to hospital playlist.
- 52:08You know, the liver treat me like how many, how many livers
- 52:11need need transplanting a year, man.
- 52:13It's like so yeah, transplant, the sun doesn't want to see him.
- 52:17Even after I gave him part of his liver and actually in
- 52:21hospital playlet they had a state had a storyline like that.
- 52:23Didn't they have style? I don't doubt, I wouldn't doubt
- 52:26that there was a storyline where I don't want my dad's liver.
- 52:29Yeah. Yeah, probably.
- 52:31I mean, I'm not going to re-watch hospital playlist to
- 52:34confirm but yes, probably like that.
- 52:37Yeah. And then we never met the pen
- 52:38pal. Yeah, we never, no, no.
- 52:40We never met the pen, pal. Are, you know what I thought was
- 52:45bullshit was Steve Steve? Last syndrome that they gave to
- 52:49hook an episode 14. I was like, okay, so he's got
- 52:52like a psychological block and I was like, okay, I wonder if
- 52:55he'll even get over this LOL. He gets over it with like,
- 53:00within like 20 minutes because Geo tells them to put a white
- 53:04draw in white X in the. Yeah, and tell him to throw it
- 53:08at the white eggs, throw the ball at.
- 53:09They could have come up with something better than that.
- 53:11She was because Juno was like, trying to get all crazy with it.
- 53:16Get get Answer with it. The hypnosis thing was again,
- 53:21another great moment, really funny?
- 53:23You think he's under hypnosis from the doctor, gives him a
- 53:26bottle of soy sauce and tells them.
- 53:28Oh, you're gonna have the most wonderful soda you've ever had
- 53:31and the straw, he drinks it. And like, of course, the spit
- 53:36take that happens because he's obviously not under hypnosis, it
- 53:40was so great. Yeah, the whole storyline, those
- 53:45kind of those dumb. He'll pitch again.
- 53:48It's like okay. Now you do it, ya like it took 2
- 53:50seconds. Gio was like he's dumb, you got
- 53:52a dumb it down for him, but a white X in the glove and call it
- 53:55a day then what that was dumb. Okay.
- 54:00So the best storyline I think and my favorite prisoner is
- 54:03definitely mincheol. Hmm.
- 54:05Oh gee because he finally does get his parole approved in
- 54:08episode 15. After them hamstringing him
- 54:11through the whole parole process and they're like oh no he's
- 54:14going to get the Christmas party and I cried.
- 54:17Whoo. Got the Christmas part in.
- 54:18Okay, and he says things, like all I have left are things to be
- 54:23thankful for because he's like devoutly, Christian and like
- 54:26very religious, but since he's been in prison and he's just
- 54:28like, yeah. So moving, whenever he talks to
- 54:31the other inmates and then when he says goodbye, love it baby.
- 54:35That like that whole thing was just so beautiful and I bought
- 54:39in, I bought in totally to mincheol and with the girl water
- 54:43the girl interviewing him his daughter.
- 54:45Those Telegraph like no one was surprised.
- 54:47Is that the interview her was his daughter and I just thought
- 54:52it was good. I liked it.
- 54:54It was touching. One thing I didn't like though
- 54:56is like if his like his his partner that he had the child
- 55:00with. Yeah.
- 55:02Liked him a lot. Yeah.
- 55:04And she never visited in prison. Never never told him 26 years or
- 55:07whatever. That's not cool.
- 55:10It was so cool. So that's the thing too.
- 55:13Is that you have this really moving flashback of her, Him,
- 55:17the day that he has like the the bar brawl or whatever and go set
- 55:22to prison that very day. And she's like, oh I have
- 55:24something to tell you and I love you and all the sudden.
- 55:27She's very like devoted to him. You can see that she's devoted
- 55:30to him and rescue each other. You're into each other.
- 55:33She had the tiny baby. Adidas shoes had hidden away
- 55:37like she was ready to tell him and you're telling me she never
- 55:40goes to prison to visit him. Yeah, never tell.
- 55:44Shouldn't it to ya. Never imagined to her daughter.
- 55:46Yeah. I mean, I get that there's a
- 55:49little bit of Shame and but she never remarried, you know.
- 55:53It's like yeah, she never remarried either.
- 55:55I don't know Daddy. She's a single mom and it for 22
- 55:58years. Yeah I don't like it.
- 56:02I don't like it one bit but yeah.
- 56:04I know he's a great actor though.
- 56:05Great great. Yeah oh God okay anymore deep
- 56:11moments are funny moments so Here's one thing that I have in
- 56:19my notes is in episode 12. I was the fire in the prison and
- 56:23Lieutenant Peng, like goes nuts and has a trauma response
- 56:26because of like, what had happened earlier, he had saved
- 56:30all the admits and all the inmates in his wing earlier.
- 56:33When another fire like ravaged, another Penitentiary.
- 56:36And so he's like opens all of the yeah, all of the cells.
- 56:41Yeah. I was thinking cages.
- 56:43Yes. So and like, they're not gauges
- 56:46anyway. He open all the cell doors and
- 56:49they're like reprimanding him. Whatever we figure we finally
- 56:52hear his backstory and why he wears long sleeves in the summer
- 56:56and all that stuff and I love it when they're talking to the
- 57:00warden and chief not I think is his name the asshole Chief.
- 57:06Yeah yo that was the brother from Chloe.
- 57:11Oh yeah, bro. I was like, man.
- 57:13He can only play an asshole from now on because he does it so
- 57:16well. So that guy he's talking to the
- 57:18warden and he's like, oh, we need to like dismiss him.
- 57:21Like we should just fire him because he's so problematic.
- 57:23And it was super, super satisfying to see like this
- 57:27ditzy fame-hungry Warden actually get serious and, like,
- 57:31put his foot down and he says, To wit like he was demanding a
- 57:36bunch of punishments, and he goes, don't cross the line, you
- 57:41know, no discussion. Lieutenant Peng is essential,
- 57:45just like you are, and he has something you don't and that's
- 57:48flexibility and it was just so great to see him, like, turn on
- 57:52a dime and be like, no, yeah, we're not.
- 57:56We're not firing him. We're not transferring him.
- 57:57He's saying it's done. That was a good scene to where
- 58:02he goes to his daughters, show-and-tell or whatever.
- 58:04Bring your dad to work. Lieutenant Pang.
- 58:06Finally, in episode 16. Going to visit his daughter's
- 58:10school to what was it like a career?
- 58:13Yeah, your dad, dude, but then he puts that one kid and
- 58:16restrain the kids like, it hurts.
- 58:19It hurts. I'll be the show's funny like
- 58:25gender. Somebody's.
- 58:26Yeah. Last thing I have for deep
- 58:32moments is actually Juno on a date with a sister and they go
- 58:37drinking. Any says that he has many
- 58:38regrets that he regrets giving up, baseball, regrets quitting,
- 58:42the startup company before I became successful and that he
- 58:46feels really anxious antsy and cowardly for always being
- 58:49dissatisfied and preparing for the next thing.
- 58:53And she goes who finds joy in their job.
- 58:56You should find joy in life elsewhere.
- 58:59I was like preach sis. Yeah, mon yeah, they have had a
- 59:03good relationship. I really like, they're really
- 59:05shit. Yeah.
- 59:06Yeah. There was a better relationship.
- 59:08Yeah, based on better things. Secondly, the second leads.
- 59:13All right, so I have mentors parting words and I think this
- 59:17might be the end of my notes. He says don't let go don't let
- 59:20go of hope. All right an inch l.joe forever
- 59:26forever. Do you have anything?
- 59:29Else you'd like to say about this in Playbook.
- 59:32Oh we didn't talk about the OST, you're going to come out.
- 59:34Oh hell yeah. Oh shit.
- 59:35Yeah. So yeah.
- 59:37Before we got on here I was like this it was T so good and you're
- 59:39like I don't think there's anything memorable.
- 59:43There was an OST. Well yeah.
- 59:45You were like what I was like, what?
- 59:50Okay. So I really love this OST
- 59:52especially like it's just a lot of K, hip-hop and care and B.
- 59:56You have artists like zico me no Gray.
- 1:00:00Eric Nam is on the OST highs, Woogie, a bunch of people and it
- 1:00:06all has the same like freaking Vibe.
- 1:00:07I freaking love it and the intro song I think is okay by be Y and
- 1:00:13gray, really good. That was like, okay.
- 1:00:17Okay. Okay, right, you remember like
- 1:00:20yeah, yeah, I know, I guess I was in it for the characters.
- 1:00:24I'll bring you this, I don't know.
- 1:00:29I didn't I guess, you know, because I didn't get into Kpop
- 1:00:32or anything until Twilight 2019 2020.
- 1:00:36Okay? So none of these songs that have
- 1:00:38ever been on my playlist or radar.
- 1:00:40Yeah, I would say that this is not a tremendously famous OST by
- 1:00:43any stretch but I wish I got more attention because these
- 1:00:47artists are really great and mostly songs that you named them
- 1:00:50are good. Yeah.
- 1:00:51Mostly songs are pretty good. So why do I have to go back?
- 1:00:55I'll put it on. I gotta go back.
- 1:00:56Yeah, be original. Soundtrack is Spotify and its
- 1:01:00entirety. Sometimes you get like you type
- 1:01:02in like an OST or something and you're like okay.
- 1:01:04It doesn't exist on Spotify. Yeah, but yes homemade list.
- 1:01:08So you get like a homemade playlist from somebody, they
- 1:01:11Tilly pieced it together. Yeah.
- 1:01:13But now this one does have a true OST available for you to
- 1:01:17listen to all right? Well, so my take away.
- 1:01:21My bottom line is if you're gonna go to jail, yeah, make
- 1:01:25sure it's in South Korea. Make sure it's inside.
- 1:01:27They have good food. They give you all the Sides, all
- 1:01:29the bunch of clothes, they get good food, they give you some
- 1:01:34Ramen at night side dishes. Yeah, great.
- 1:01:39I mean really great, don't, don't go to jail in America.
- 1:01:44No, don't go to jail. America is scary as shit.
- 1:01:47Yeah. But if you can get a transfer to
- 1:01:48a Korean jail, that's where you want to be.
- 1:01:50Yeah. Because they'll get put you in
- 1:01:51with a bunch of guys and they didn't even do what they were in
- 1:01:54knowing very little I have a couple of unanswerable
- 1:02:01questions. Okay.
- 1:02:02It will ask real fast and then we'll get out of here.
- 1:02:04What the hell happened to dr. Koh, what do you think happened
- 1:02:07to that guy? He got transferred out.
- 1:02:10Okay. Yeah, I don't know, he's making
- 1:02:13Furniture. He said he said at some point.
- 1:02:17Oh, I'm not even gonna need like your help.
- 1:02:19Don't like, give me contact information or nothing.
- 1:02:21Because when I get out of here, where immigrating out of Korea,
- 1:02:25I don't want to stay in this country.
- 1:02:26Yeah, so I hope his wife saved up all that money.
- 1:02:29I hope that she like, didn't spend that triple paycheck.
- 1:02:33He was getting every month and she didn't put it all in
- 1:02:35Bitcoin. Yeah.
- 1:02:40She's like oh so you got Those triple paychecks like, bad news,
- 1:02:44honey. Bad news.
- 1:02:45I put it in crypto. Okay, what happened to Christ?
- 1:02:50He got his Liberty because I think it's never take it out and
- 1:02:53then boom. They transferred him.
- 1:02:54Yeah. I don't know, man.
- 1:02:56He yeah. What was his original crime was
- 1:03:00like, um, so you did like a gambling ring.

- 1:03:49I know it's you. Yeah.
- 1:03:52Quick question. I don't know if you are into
- 1:03:54baseball at all. How often is it that a picture
- 1:03:56can switch pitching? Never never right?
- 1:03:59Okay, never happened in history again.
- 1:04:01Like a utopian show. Yeah.

- 1:04:20Yeah, that was good times. Yeah, I'll just be a rocket
- 1:04:23scientist tomorrow's. Well, it's the same odds I
- 1:04:26think. Yeah, not gonna happen and crony
- 1:04:31just catching the balls. Yeah, he had some easily.
- 1:04:35Yeah, either guess he's catching like Fast balls and shit like a
- 1:04:40professional face. Baseball player.
- 1:04:42Yeah, totally fine. Yeah.
- 1:04:45Doesn't even blink. All right.
- 1:04:47It's, I think that's all I have in my notes.
- 1:04:49That's all I got. I think it might be time to say
- 1:04:53goodbye. Should I play the Sarah
- 1:04:54Brightman? Have to play Sarah Brightman at
- 1:05:01the end of this episode, right? So to all you lovers out there,
