Transcript
- Lucas: Luna, bienvenida de vuelta. How did it go with 'yo hablo' at the park yesterday? Luna: Oh, it was great! I said 'Yo hablo español' to a mom and she smiled. But then her kid asked me something and I froze. Lucas: That's okay. You're learning. Today we'll add more park words. Specifically, for a fun playground item: the roundabout. Luna: The roundabout? The spinning thing you sit on and get dizzy? Lucas: Exactly. In Spanish it's 'el carrusel'. Listen: el carrusel. Luna: El carrusel. Sounds like 'carousel'. Lucas: Right. English carousel comes from it. Now, what do you do on a carrusel? You spin — 'dar vueltas'. Dar vueltas. Luna: Dar vueltas. That means 'to spin'? Lucas: Yes. Literally 'give turns'. So if you want to ask someone if they want to get on, say: '¿Quieres subirte al carrusel?' Luna: ¿Quieres subirte al carrusel? Lucas: Perfect. 'Subirte' means 'to get on'. And if you're pushing, you can say 'Voy a girarlo' — I'm going to spin it. Luna: Voy a girarlo. That's handy. Lucas: And of course, 'Sujétate fuerte' — hold on tight. Sujétate fuerte. Luna: Sujétate fuerte. That one I remember from the tire swing. Lucas: Good memory. Finally, 'Es emocionante' — it's exciting. Es emocionante. Luna: Es emocionante. I can imagine a kid screaming that. Lucas: Exactly. Let's hear all six: el carrusel, dar vueltas, ¿Quieres subirte al carrusel?, Voy a girarlo, Sujétate fuerte, Es emocionante. Luna: Okay, I'll try: el carrusel, dar vueltas, ¿Quieres subirte al carrusel?, Voy a girarlo, Sujétate fuerte, Es emocionante. Lucas: Luna, that was almost perfect. One tweak: 'carrusel' the r is rolled a bit more. El carrusel. Luna: El carrusel. Got it. Lucas: Now picture this: You're at the park with a friend. You see the roundabout empty. You say: '¿Quieres subirte al carrusel?' And they say 'Sí, vamos.' Then you spin them gently and say 'Sujétate fuerte'. Luna: And they laugh and say 'Es emocionante!' I love that. Lucas: Exactly. Lucas: Hold on tight. Luna: Sujétate fuerte. Lucas: It's exciting. Luna: Es emocionante. Lucas: Fantastic! Now you're ready to enjoy the carrusel with Spanish.
