- 0:00Speaker 1: Look who's here. It's our friend friend Gwen from the
- 0:04Speaker 1: Utah Humane Society. And Gwen has brought us, brought us
- 0:08Speaker 1: a Schnauzer, a very big schnauzer. So this is a
- 0:12Speaker 1: full size, yeah schnauzer.
- 0:15Speaker 2: We think she's a giant Schnauzer. The people who surrendered
- 0:18Speaker 2: her said she was standard, but she's about seventy five pounds,
- 0:21Speaker 2: so she's a big girl.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yes, Shadow is her name.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yes, and she's a she's now her she's been all
- 0:30Speaker 1: her hair has been all cuts.
- 0:31Speaker 4: It not like a schnauzer.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, she got kind of a funny haircut, so she
- 0:35Speaker 2: can kind of look like a little bit of a
- 0:36Speaker 2: doodle right now. She was just shaved all the way down.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Usually they leave a little bit of fur on their
- 0:41Speaker 2: face and they have those cute beards. But you know,
- 0:44Speaker 2: fur grows, so it'll.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It'll grow in the beard. Now what are so Schnauzers are?
- 0:49Speaker 1: And Shadow is available for adoption right this very minute.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, as soon as our doors open at eleven am,
- 0:55Speaker 2: you can come down and meet her.
- 0:57Speaker 1: So, so Schnauzers are interesting dogs. They were what were
- 1:01Speaker 1: they bred for originally?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so they're originally bred for guardian or herding dogs.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So they are very good at protecting people. They like
- 1:09Speaker 2: to know what's going on. Then they became popular with
- 1:12Speaker 2: like police work and guard breeds kind of in Europe.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So you know, they're not the breed for everyone. You
- 1:19Speaker 2: want to do your research.
- 1:21Speaker 3: She like hiking or jogging or your active outdoors, she
- 1:26Speaker 3: probably would enjoy that.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, she would love that. And you know she loves
- 1:29Speaker 2: to lean on you and be right by your side,
- 1:31Speaker 2: so she did. She'd be a great protection, you know,
- 1:34Speaker 2: just to have that around if you're hiking alone on
- 1:36Speaker 2: the trails.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And you can tell that she's very alert. Yes, I
- 1:39Speaker 1: mean it's like I've got to keep everything. I want
- 1:42Speaker 1: to know what everything where, everything is at every moment.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yep, she knows her every person in the room is so.
- 1:48Speaker 2: But you know, she previously lived with other dogs and
- 1:51Speaker 2: was around children, and we were told she did well
- 1:53Speaker 2: with them. At the shelters, she's been participating in playgroups
- 1:56Speaker 2: with other dogs and has done well, you know, And
- 1:59Speaker 2: she's a little bit nervous side, but you know that's
- 2:01Speaker 2: to be expected in the shelter environment.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And you can and and if you are any good
- 2:06Speaker 1: at training a dog, this is this would be perfect.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I mean, because I assume she's very trainable.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so she would love to expand her repertoire. She
- 2:16Speaker 2: knows sit in a couple of other things, but she
- 2:19Speaker 2: does pull on the leash a bit, and she is
- 2:20Speaker 2: a strong girl. Yeah, so you know, I'm used to
- 2:24Speaker 2: I own large dogs and she can give me a
- 2:27Speaker 2: little bit of a pull on my feet. So you
- 2:30Speaker 2: you know she'll want to work on that in her
- 2:31Speaker 2: new home.
- 2:32Speaker 4: Yeah, there no settle down.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, she's getting Yeah, it's it's a Shadow And you
- 2:40Speaker 1: can adopt Shadow right now.
- 2:41Speaker 4: And there are plenty of other dogs who adopt with
- 2:43Speaker 4: the Humane.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Society, plenty of other animals. We got cats, we got
- 2:47Speaker 2: guinea pigs, rabbits, and lots of dogs as well.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Utah Humane dot org and that's you can see all
- 2:53Speaker 1: of the animals that are available.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Right That updates every thirty minutes so you can see
- 2:58Speaker 2: what we have. Each animal has their own little profile.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Like Shadow, it'll tell you her adoption fee is one
- 3:03Speaker 2: hundred and fifty dollars. She's about a year and a
- 3:05Speaker 2: half old, so you can find out all that information online.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's how long how long has she been in the shelter.
- 3:12Speaker 2: You know, she has been with us since the middle
- 3:16Speaker 2: of June, and then she did get adopted and then
- 3:19Speaker 2: return because it wasn't the right fit. They thought she
- 3:21Speaker 2: was a little too big for them, which is you know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: can understandable if you're expecting a standard size and end
- 3:27Speaker 2: up with the giant. So, but she is full grown.
- 3:30Speaker 2: She's not going to get too much bigger than this.
- 3:33Speaker 2: She also wants to speak into the mic, don't Yeah, so,
- 3:37Speaker 2: but she's very affectionate. She's going to love her. People
- 3:41Speaker 2: whoever takes her home in bonds with her. So we're
- 3:44Speaker 2: just hoping that'll happen soon.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's I mean, this is a great dog. If I
- 3:47Speaker 1: had any it would just it would be too much
- 3:49Speaker 1: for me, you know.
- 3:50Speaker 3: But if you're like specifically, if you're a woman who
- 3:54Speaker 3: likes to be outside exercising and its shadowed, be a
- 3:59Speaker 3: great opinion.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and if you don't mind a dog who's in
- 4:02Speaker 2: your personal space. I mean, like I said, she loves
- 4:04Speaker 2: to be right up against your legs and keep an
- 4:06Speaker 2: eye on you, so you'll never be alone.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And then uh if and the adoption fees are really small, right, yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 1: so hers is one hundred and fifty dollars.
- 4:16Speaker 2: But you know she comes Spade microchip, she has age
- 4:19Speaker 2: appropriate vaccinations, she's been dewormed, so really she's set to go.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Shadow, and does does she respond to the name Shadow?
- 4:27Speaker 2: You know she does? But dogs they'll learn new names
- 4:30Speaker 2: real quick.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You don't have the name, you could take the dog
- 4:34Speaker 1: and name a name, name or Schnauzer.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you can name her whatever you want.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Portense I like Schnauzers, fourtense, like fortense. I like Schnauzers
- 4:44Speaker 1: because the little, the small ones, and they look like
- 4:46Speaker 1: little old men with their little beards miniatures now, so
- 4:48Speaker 1: they look kind of like me is now that I
- 4:50Speaker 1: think about it, little old men.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Schnauzer Bill, name.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Am Schnauzer Bill.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna get a tattoo that says that you talk human, Gwen.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Let's see if we can get Shadow adopted today, that
- 5:04Speaker 1: would be really great. Let us know, well, do we
- 5:06Speaker 1: have a We have a video on our Instagram and
- 5:09Speaker 1: Facebook of Shadow if you want to see, and there's
- 5:12Speaker 1: a perfect shot over right now at X ninety six
- 5:14Speaker 1: dot com slash live. You can see that she's really
- 5:18Speaker 1: a magnificent dog.
- 5:19Speaker 3: But while we're talking about your pets. Maybe because we
- 5:22Speaker 3: have a couple seconds it's so hot.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yes, that's very Please be.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Careful with your animals outside. Maybe you can talk about.
- 5:30Speaker 1: That just a little bit.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Don't leave them in cars. Cars, you know, even within
- 5:35Speaker 2: minutes with the windows cracked in the shade, can get
- 5:37Speaker 2: over one hundred degrees. You can, you know, put a
- 5:40Speaker 2: dog in real bad distress. Walking your dog in the
- 5:44Speaker 2: heat of the day. Sidewalks, even if it's not asphalt,
- 5:47Speaker 2: they heat up and convern pop heads. Yes, you know,
- 5:50Speaker 2: so just avoid the heat heat of the day with
- 5:52Speaker 2: your animals.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Those Do those little booties work or are they worth it?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Well, the problem with them is is dogs sweat through
- 5:58Speaker 2: their paws. It's actually the only place they can sweat
- 6:00Speaker 2: besides panting, and so you're actually heating up their paws
- 6:04Speaker 2: by having them wear those. So yes, they protect them
- 6:06Speaker 2: from the heat, but then you're also causing them to
- 6:08Speaker 2: overheat at the same time.
- 6:10Speaker 4: So probably not not a good idea. Not a good idea.
- 6:12Speaker 4: To the go where there's grass. Yes, well, thank you Shadow.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Nice to see you again, Gwen. Nice to see you Shadow.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Thanks for having us.
- 6:20Speaker 4: The best of luck.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I know you'll find a home Shadow, I know you
- 6:24Speaker 1: will all right.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Thank you very much,
