Canada’s last captive whales and dolphins are finally getting a new lease on life—thanks to an emergency U.S. government green light. Thirty belugas and four dolphins from shuttered Marineland in Niagara Falls are set to relocate to top U.S. aquariums including Chicago’s Shedd, Atlanta’s Georgia Aquarium, and even a SeaWorld site in Spain. The move, approved by Ottawa and NOAA, comes as Marineland struggles financially and prepares for sale. Animal welfare advocates and the park itself agree this relocation is best for the animals.
