- 0:15And it is Thursday, it's the 16th of October, and you have
- 0:18tapped on play, so the wait is over.
- 0:21I can come alive and I can read with you another chapter of
- 0:25God's word on this World Food Day.
- 0:28Oh yeah, Today's the day that there's a bit of an excuse for
- 0:31you to try something interesting from around the world and
- 0:34realise that no matter where we are around the world, we are one
- 0:38people and one God surrounded by His love.
- 0:43We can eat each other's food today.
- 0:45Don't nick the person's food beside you, but we can find a
- 0:48recipe from far away and cook it.
- 0:50And by doing that, we can kind of all sit at the same table,
- 0:54which is where love and understanding is shared.
- 0:58Holy Spirit, as we read your Word today, we know that people
- 1:03all around the world are going to be opening up Your Word.
- 1:06Thank You that we are your people no matter where we are,
- 1:09and we come before you. Open our hearts.
- 1:12Teach us something more about you today.
- 1:16Alright friends, let's do it. Let's read together Romans
- 1:19chapter 10. Dear brothers and sisters, the
- 1:32longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people
- 1:36of Israel to be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have
- 1:40for God, but it is misdirected zeal, for they don't understand
- 1:46God's way of making people right with themself.
- 1:49Refusing to accept God's way, they cling to their own way of
- 1:53getting right with God by trying to keep the law.
- 1:56For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for
- 2:00which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in
- 2:05him are made right with God. For Moses writes that the law's
- 2:11way of making a person right with God requires obedience to
- 2:14all of its commands. But faith's way of getting right
- 2:18with God says, don't say in your heart who will go up to heaven
- 2:23to bring Christ down to earth, and don't say who will go down
- 2:27to the place of the dead to bring Christ back to life again.
- 2:31In fact, it says the message is very close at hand.
- 2:36It is on your lips and in your heart.
- 2:41And that message is the very message about faith that we
- 2:45preach. If you openly declare that Jesus
- 2:48is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from
- 2:52the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your
- 2:58heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly
- 3:02declaring your faith that you are saved.
- 3:06As the Scriptures tell us, anyone who trusts in Him will
- 3:10never be disgraced. Jew and Gentile are the same in
- 3:14this respect. They have the same Lord who
- 3:17gives generously to all who call on Him, For everyone who calls
- 3:21on the name of the Lord will be saved.
- 3:25But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in
- 3:29Him? And how can they believe in Him
- 3:33if they have never heard about Him?
- 3:35And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?
- 3:39And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent?
- 3:44That is why the Scriptures say how beautiful are the feet of
- 3:49messengers who bring the good news.
- 3:53But not everyone welcomes the good news.
- 3:56For Isaiah the prophet said, Lord, who has believed our
- 4:00message? So faith comes from hearing that
- 4:04is hearing the good news about Christ.
- 4:07But I ask, have the people of Israel actually heard the
- 4:10message? Yes they have.
- 4:14The message has gone throughout the earth and the words to all
- 4:18the world. But I ask, did the people of
- 4:22Israel really understand? Yes they did.
- 4:26For even in the time of Moses, God said, I will rouse your
- 4:30jealousy through people who are not even a nation.
- 4:34I will provoke your anger through the foolish Gentiles.
- 4:39And later as I spoke boldly for God, saying I was found by
- 4:44people who are not looking for me, I showed myself to those who
- 4:48are not asking for me. But regarding Israel, God said
- 4:54all day long I open my arms to them, but they were disobedient
- 5:00and rebellious. Oh Jesus, may we never find
- 5:14ourselves in a position where our zeal for you is misdirected
- 5:19and we end up following the wrong idea.
- 5:24Help us not get sidetracked thinking that we need to be
- 5:27perfect, thinking that it's by doing the right thing alone
- 5:32that's going to bring us your favour and your saving Jesus.
- 5:41Here Paul tells us that the law was fulfilled by you, so we
- 5:45don't need to fulfil the law. We just need to come to you, to
- 5:50love you, to accept you, and to follow you.
- 5:56So Jesus, if our hearts get misguided, may your words of
- 6:00truth ring loudly out so that we would hear and be turned back to
- 6:05you, and that our zeal would not be misplaced.
- 6:12You are a good God, a God of love, of forgiveness, of mercy,
- 6:16of patience, and absolute holiness and power and might.
- 6:24And so we come before you as your beloved grateful children,
- 6:30and we love you, and we thank you for all you've done for us,
- 6:33and most of all for giving us Jesus so that we know you, we
- 6:37understand who you are, and we're saved.
- 6:41So we pray all of this in His saving name, Amen.
