- 3:00Speaker 3: a member. Remember Great Patriotstore dot com. That's Great Patriotstore
- 3:05Speaker 3: dot com. I was gonna do a whole fifteen minutes
- 3:10Speaker 3: on faith, and I'm not a religious person, but I
- 3:15Speaker 3: find it the most fascinating of all topics. And maybe
- 3:19Speaker 3: we'll shelve that, maybe until next week. But I did
- 3:21Speaker 3: want to go off the beaten path a little bit,
- 3:23Speaker 3: and I want to ask you something. This is something
- 3:25Speaker 3: I did on my show, and I think it guarded
- 3:29Speaker 3: a little bit of an intense discussion. But what is
- 3:33Speaker 3: life worth? Imagine you're sitting across from me, right We're
- 3:40Speaker 3: at a coffeehouse, and we ponder the question that pierces
- 3:47Speaker 3: everybody's soul. What is your life actually worth? I mean,
- 3:53Speaker 3: it's it worth a certain amount of dollars, possessions and
- 3:56Speaker 3: currency and time fleeting seconds, minutes day, you know, what's
- 4:01Speaker 3: your life worth? And so let's let's form a provocative analogy.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Let's say I offered Let's say I had a billion
- 4:10Speaker 3: dollars to offer billion with a bee, and I said,
- 4:15Speaker 3: I'd give it to you, but you'd only have one
- 4:17Speaker 3: day to live. Would you take that billion dollars? Of course,
- 4:23Speaker 3: the answer is likely. The answer is a resolute no.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Nobody would trade their life one day for a billion dollars.
- 4:32Speaker 3: A single day, no matter how amazing the wealth is,
- 4:36Speaker 3: can't compete or compare to the infinite potential possibilities of
- 4:40Speaker 3: a life well lived twenty four hours. It's too much
- 4:44Speaker 3: to trade for a billion dollars. And some of the
- 4:47Speaker 3: great poets have said, you have all the fears of
- 4:50Speaker 3: mortals and all the desires of immortals. So a billion
- 4:54Speaker 3: dollars for a single day, it would just be a
- 4:58Speaker 3: cruel jest when the test is actually time, that's the
- 5:03Speaker 3: true measure of wealth. But one day that's not really fair,
- 5:10Speaker 3: right one day? What if I were to ask the
- 5:14Speaker 3: same question, but instead of a day, I offered you
- 5:17Speaker 3: thirty days to live. You got a billion dollars for
- 5:19Speaker 3: a thirty day trade, would you take that thirty days
- 5:23Speaker 3: one month, thirty sunrises, laughter moments, maybe some quiet reflection,
- 5:29Speaker 3: enough time to have some amazing meals, hang out with
- 5:32Speaker 3: the loved ones, walk through the forest or on the beat, maybe.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Lose yourself in a book. Thirty days versus.
- 5:39Speaker 2: One billion dollars.
- 5:40Speaker 3: The answer, of course, is still no.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Still know, a month, though precious, is too brief the
- 5:47Speaker 3: trade from your money. The weight of each moment grows
- 5:51Speaker 3: heavier when you know they're numbered, So it would be
- 5:55Speaker 3: tortures the trade of billion dollars for thirty days. Let's
- 6:00Speaker 3: say I bargain even further. What if I gave you
- 6:03Speaker 3: a billion dollars for a year. Do you start to
- 6:06Speaker 3: think about that?
- 6:07Speaker 4: Now?
- 6:07Speaker 3: A year holds seasons, holidays, personal growth, enough time to
- 6:12Speaker 3: try something new, maybe men to broken relationship, chase a
- 6:17Speaker 3: dream for three hundred and sixty five days. But my
- 6:22Speaker 3: guess is you probably wouldn't be willing to trade your
- 6:27Speaker 3: three hundred and sixty five day year for a billion dollars.
- 6:30Speaker 3: It's just not worth it. A billion dollars might buy
- 6:34Speaker 3: you those amazing external comforts, but only time can grant
- 6:39Speaker 3: you inner strength. Right, So a year feels like too
- 6:45Speaker 3: steep a price? What if I gave you ten years
- 6:50Speaker 3: for five billion dollars, or what if I gave you
- 6:53Speaker 3: ten years for a billion dollars? I mean, I guess
- 6:57Speaker 3: it would then depend upon how old are you. If
- 7:00Speaker 3: you're sixty, ten years for a billion dollars, maybe that
- 7:05Speaker 3: that begins to.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Gnaw at you a little bit.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Ten years is substantial time to travel, the world, builds
- 7:11Speaker 3: something lasting, love, maybe somebody deeply. A billion dollars you
- 7:15Speaker 3: can change lives, fun, dreams. It's your money. Do what
- 7:19Speaker 3: you want with it, leave a legacy. Ten years, billion dollars,
- 7:26Speaker 3: and still, those of you who are listening, still, the
- 7:31Speaker 3: answer is no, Right, The answer is no. Every tick
- 7:36Speaker 3: of the clock brings you ever closer to the end.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Ten years. Though rich and amazing with possibility, it's finite,
- 7:43Speaker 3: hard man. It's a reminder that, I mean, this is
- 7:48Speaker 3: not just a resource. Time is the very fabric of
- 7:51Speaker 3: the existence. We're not rich by what we possess, but
- 7:56Speaker 3: what we cannot do without a billion dollars pales in comparison,
- 8:01Speaker 3: weighed against the boundless potential of even a single hour.
- 8:06Speaker 3: So what amount of time? What'd you trade a billion
- 8:10Speaker 3: dollars for realistic time? I mean again, Obviously, if you're
- 8:15Speaker 3: sixty years old and someone were to give you a
- 8:18Speaker 3: billion dollars for fifty years, you'd probably say yes because
- 8:21Speaker 3: you're probably not going to make it to one hundred
- 8:22Speaker 3: and ten. But the truth is anything realistic, no amount
- 8:29Speaker 3: of money seems fair.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Time is the most precious resource that we have, not
- 8:35Speaker 3: because it's so scarce, but because it's singular. Every second
- 8:39Speaker 3: carries the weight of immense possibilities, joy, sorrow, growth, connections,
- 8:46Speaker 3: and we're just so unsure of what lies after this.
- 8:53Speaker 3: If it's nothing, then it's not certainly not worth the trade.
- 8:59Speaker 3: And each moment it is unique everything, every second, like
- 9:02Speaker 3: you're listening to me right now, it's unique. You've never
- 9:04Speaker 3: heard this before, it's unique to you. You didn't have
- 9:08Speaker 3: this ten seconds ago, thirty seconds ago, thirty minutes ago.
- 9:14Speaker 3: And a billion dollars that can buy you mansion, fancy car.
- 9:19Speaker 3: But in the end, you probably wouldn't trade time for
- 9:22Speaker 3: any amount of money. Right. A billion dollars can do
- 9:26Speaker 3: a lot of different things, but you wouldn't. You wouldn't
- 9:30Speaker 3: pay it.
- 9:31Speaker 2: For one more.
- 9:31Speaker 3: You paid for one extra If you had ten billion,
- 9:34Speaker 3: you pay an extra billion for a day it's the
- 9:38Speaker 3: one thing you can't get back. Every second of every
- 9:41Speaker 3: day is priceless. So I just thought that that would
- 9:45Speaker 3: be That's just something I heard this analogy. Somebody else
- 9:50Speaker 3: did it and I kind of stole it, but I
- 9:52Speaker 3: thought it was fascinating. When you think about it, it just
- 9:54Speaker 3: shows you how much just one day is worth. Right.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Time can't be bored, bargained. It's the one currency that
- 10:02Speaker 3: flows without pause. It's indifferent to our wealth, our status.
- 10:07Speaker 3: The value of life is measured in years, or it's
- 10:09Speaker 3: not measured in the years or dollars, but in the
- 10:11Speaker 3: moments that you're given. So bottom line, the answer to
- 10:17Speaker 3: my original question of billion dollars for a day, no
- 10:20Speaker 3: a month, no a year, no ten years, no, nope,
- 10:25Speaker 3: Every fleeting moment of my life beautiful, agonizing, painful, wonderful,
- 10:29Speaker 3: every second of it it's worth far more than that.
- 10:32Speaker 3: It's basically worth everything. And I hope yours look at
- 10:36Speaker 3: yours the same exact way, because it's the it's the
- 10:40Speaker 3: most precious resource that we have. And I felt like
- 10:44Speaker 3: sharing that story with you give you a little different
- 10:47Speaker 3: perspective on some of the things that are bouncing around
- 10:51Speaker 3: in my brain. I like those kinds of conversations. They
- 10:56Speaker 3: make you think. So we'll get back to the pics
- 11:00Speaker 3: of it all. We'll take a short break. We'll come back,
- 11:02Speaker 3: Like I said bottom of the hour. We'll talk to
- 11:05Speaker 3: a columnist who's written for the Wall Street Journal and
- 11:07Speaker 3: some other major outlets, and he'll join us. His name
- 11:10Speaker 3: is Red Jenkie. We'll talk about Trump and his economy
- 11:15Speaker 3: and all things around that when we get back, and
- 11:18Speaker 3: I'll do a little crime when we come back. There's
- 11:20Speaker 3: been some amazing progress in Washington, and I'll read you
- 11:23Speaker 3: some statistics about this whole plan from Donald Trump when
- 11:27Speaker 3: we can return again. Are you're listening to the war Zone,
- 11:29Speaker 3: the Gateway Pundit, Untamed Nation, Root for America dot com.
- 11:33Speaker 3: We'll take a short break, we'll come right back.

- 16:42Speaker 3: It seems like that's a win win win for everybody involved.
- 16:46Speaker 3: All right, we'd have a lot of time in this segment,
- 16:49Speaker 3: but I did see some numbers today that I thought
- 16:52Speaker 3: were pretty remarkable, and I want to share them with you.
- 16:55Speaker 3: One thy, three hundred and sixty nine arrest in DC
- 16:58Speaker 3: since the Feds be gan to patrol the streets, twelve
- 17:03Speaker 3: known gang members arrested. One juvenile was arrested for intent
- 17:09Speaker 3: to distribute fentanol. Here's the one where everyone should stand
- 17:14Speaker 3: up and give Donald Trump an absolute one hundred percent
- 17:19Speaker 3: standing ovation.
- 17:21Speaker 1: All right.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Now, you can say what you want about crime and
- 17:24Speaker 3: criminals and all the impact of that, but since Trump
- 17:29Speaker 3: has put boots on the ground, five missing children have
- 17:34Speaker 3: been rested.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Right five missing kids found.
- 17:40Speaker 3: I mean that right there, right there alone should bring
- 17:44Speaker 3: everybody to the table and willing to celebrate what's going
- 17:48Speaker 3: on in Washington, DC.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Five kids that were you.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Know, missing in this who knows the sex probably the
- 17:55Speaker 3: sex trade industry have been found. One hundred and forty
- 17:58Speaker 3: firearms have been That should make all of the Democrat
- 18:02Speaker 3: progressives excited. And fifty homeless encampments have been cleared. That's
- 18:07Speaker 3: since well it's two weeks. Two weeks in Washington, DC.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Tell me where this is the wrong approach. Tell me
- 18:17Speaker 3: where this is not the right way to go about things. Now,
- 18:22Speaker 3: you may not think there's a crime epidemic, but what
- 18:25Speaker 3: I just read you clearly tells me that there is.
- 18:28Speaker 3: And these people who I just read about, right, the
- 18:32Speaker 3: twelve known gang members, the juvenile, the five missing kids,
- 18:36Speaker 3: the fifty homeless encampments, one hundred and forty firearms. Those
- 18:40Speaker 3: people would still be on the streets causing havoc, wreaking, crime, wreaking,
- 18:43Speaker 3: you know, all kinds of chaos. Yet now they're off
- 18:46Speaker 3: the streets. So maybe people can go walk to the
- 18:51Speaker 3: corner restaurant and get a hamburger, get a sandwich. Maybe
- 18:55Speaker 3: they can go hand in hand to the nearest little
- 18:58Speaker 3: park area without the fear of having somebody mug them
- 19:03Speaker 3: from behind, or having a gang member come up and
- 19:06Speaker 3: attack them, or what have you.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I mean, where's the loss?
- 19:09Speaker 3: Three thirteen hundred and sixty nine Arress thirteen hundred and
- 19:13Speaker 3: sixty nine Arress in Washington. He's saying in the last
- 19:15Speaker 3: two weeks, guys, the only reason why anybody is pushing
- 19:20Speaker 3: back against this, the only reason is for Trump derangements,
- 19:23Speaker 3: the derangement syndrome. There is no other reason why you
- 19:28Speaker 3: would not want to have more law and order on
- 19:31Speaker 3: the streets of your city. It's just simple common sense.
- 19:35Speaker 3: But what are we doing? You got to give Trump
- 19:38Speaker 3: his props, even those of you who do have the TDS.
- 19:41Speaker 3: You got to give them props on this. He's killing it, man,
- 19:46Speaker 3: he's killing it in that arena, and y'all should be celebrating.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It's just the kids alone. Finding the kids alone is
- 19:54Speaker 3: enough for us to throw a wild celebratory party, although
- 19:58Speaker 3: they are again tens of thousands of other kids who
- 20:01Speaker 3: are flying under the radar that we need to find
- 20:04Speaker 3: as well. All right, The Gateway Pundon has us on,
- 20:07Speaker 3: Untamed Nation has us on. Root for America has us
- 20:09Speaker 3: on get her X. Also if you want to go there,
- 20:13Speaker 3: Wayne's Rumble has us on as well.

- 22:47Speaker 3: and all the things that Red rights are up there.
- 22:50Speaker 3: So help me. Welcome Red Jankee to the program. Red,
- 22:52Speaker 3: thanks for coming on. I appreciate it very much. How
- 22:55Speaker 3: you doing tonight?
- 22:58Speaker 8: Hey, I'm doing well. It's pleasure to be here. Leate,
- 23:01Speaker 8: thank you for the invitation.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Well, listen, you wrote a column a few weeks back,
- 23:06Speaker 3: and we talked about it a little bit on the
- 23:07Speaker 3: Morning show, but I got to give it to the
- 23:10Speaker 3: national audience because it's so spot on and people can
- 23:13Speaker 3: go up and they can read it on your website,
- 23:15Speaker 3: ddashreddash line dot com. But I'm just going to get
- 23:18Speaker 3: out of your way because you do a wonderful job
- 23:20Speaker 3: explaining some of this stuff. So tell everybody you know
- 23:23Speaker 3: what drove you to write this column and just give
- 23:25Speaker 3: everybody that thirty thousand foot view to get us going.
- 23:31Speaker 8: Well, we've we've gone through just a massive amount of
- 23:36Speaker 8: commentary about the one big beautiful bill in the mainstream media,
- 23:41Speaker 8: mostly critical and non supportive, focusing in on its long
- 23:49Speaker 8: term negative impact on deficits and debt. The Congressional Budget
- 23:56Speaker 8: Office has scored it as costing three point four trillion
- 24:00Speaker 8: dollars over the next decade. There's been some commentary over
- 24:07Speaker 8: that period of time about, in separately, about the President's
- 24:13Speaker 8: tarret program, and people have also for the most part,
- 24:18Speaker 8: been critical. However, if you put those two programs together,
- 24:24Speaker 8: you wind up with something that really hasn't been discussed.
- 24:29Speaker 8: The Congressional Budget Office scored the tarret program and said
- 24:33Speaker 8: it was going to produce revenue positive revenue of three
- 24:37Speaker 8: trillion dollars. The two programs offset this. These two programs
- 24:45Speaker 8: are one, They are one program, and there's a strategy
- 24:50Speaker 8: behind this. It really is going unrecognized in my reading
- 24:55Speaker 8: in the mainstream press. So I wrote a column saying,
- 24:59Speaker 8: maga is a pl It's not just this track a slogan.
- 25:05Speaker 3: So you think this was a plan from the onset.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Do you think Trump foresaw that this this tariff money
- 25:10Speaker 3: would then sort of balance out the money that he
- 25:12Speaker 3: was spending.
- 25:16Speaker 7: Well in a way.
- 25:18Speaker 8: Yes, it's a lead pipe cinch that tariffs are going
- 25:22Speaker 8: to raise tariff revenue. And as of June, the tariff
- 25:28Speaker 8: revenue who started picking up dramatically. If you look at
- 25:31Speaker 8: the Jewe number, it's about twenty seven billion dollars on
- 25:35Speaker 8: an annual basis, that's about.
- 25:37Speaker 7: Three point two trillion.
- 25:45Speaker 8: Excuse me, three twenty billion, and over ten years that's
- 25:49Speaker 8: three point two There you.
- 25:51Speaker 4: Have the math.
- 25:52Speaker 7: In June, the Trump the tariff.
- 25:54Speaker 8: Revenue was already offsetting what the official to Washington said
- 26:01Speaker 8: was going to be the cost of the one big
- 26:04Speaker 8: beautiful bill over the decade.
- 26:08Speaker 7: So there you have it.
- 26:10Speaker 8: It's it's one program, one and the same. It doesn't matter.
- 26:13Speaker 8: It's curious to be that the president has not articulated
- 26:18Speaker 8: these two programs as a part of a single strategy.
- 26:24Speaker 8: But they just are, whether he articulates it or not.
- 26:28Speaker 8: They work together. Love and marriage of course, and carriage.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, are these based read on projections? What
- 26:38Speaker 3: projections are they based on? Because there's an assumption too
- 26:42Speaker 3: that comes along with tariffs that consumption will go down.
- 26:46Speaker 3: So if consumption goes down, the does the profit from
- 26:50Speaker 3: tariffs go down as well? I would assume it would,
- 26:53Speaker 3: but you would know better.
- 26:57Speaker 8: Yeah, No, I think you're touching on why the strategy
- 27:04Speaker 8: the overall strategy. Now, yes, I think just technically, I
- 27:08Speaker 8: don't know whether the Congressional Budget Office in its scoring
- 27:13Speaker 8: factor that in that taras will restrain consumption. But that's
- 27:21Speaker 8: part of the plan in my opinion, one of the
- 27:24Speaker 8: taken together. The one Big Beautiful Bill reduces taxes on
- 27:29Speaker 8: income on productivity. The tariffs raise taxes on consumption. So
- 27:39Speaker 8: the grand strategy is to move the nation from from
- 27:44Speaker 8: over consumption into a nation that is once again more productive.
- 27:49Speaker 8: Taxes provide incentive, and the more you tax something, the
- 27:55Speaker 8: less of it.
- 27:55Speaker 7: You get, so we'll get less consumption. Good for the nation.
- 28:01Speaker 7: We should be instead producing.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Red.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Jackie is with us and his column, his fascinating column
- 28:08Speaker 3: is up on his website as we speak, and the
- 28:11Speaker 3: website it's easy the dash reddash line dot com, and
- 28:16Speaker 3: you can read about the offset of the Big Beautiful
- 28:19Speaker 3: Bill and some of the money that we're spending and
- 28:21Speaker 3: the debts supposedly that we're creating, but offset by the
- 28:25Speaker 3: possibility of tariffs. Is there any chance before we get
- 28:27Speaker 3: to something else, is there any chance that the tariffs
- 28:30Speaker 3: that he collects, or even more maybe are they are
- 28:34Speaker 3: they estimating on a low side? Could we see an
- 28:37Speaker 3: explosion here? Do we make six trillion dollars over ten years?
- 28:40Speaker 3: Eight trillion dollars? Is that a possibility?
- 28:46Speaker 8: I don't think anyone knows. There's a huge caveat here.
- 28:51Speaker 8: And let's just take today's news. The Federal Appeal Appeals
- 28:56Speaker 8: Court has just ruled that the talent cert out of bounds,
- 29:01Speaker 8: that the President has overstepped his authority under the law
- 29:06Speaker 8: that he has cited is giving him the authority. So
- 29:10Speaker 8: this is all a program of real uncertainty. But I
- 29:16Speaker 8: think what needs our focus is what he's trying to do.
- 29:21Speaker 8: And I find what he's trying to do, and whether
- 29:25Speaker 8: it's one advisor or another, or the president himself bought
- 29:29Speaker 8: this all up himself. This is a grand strategy to
- 29:34Speaker 8: change the entire direction of the country.
- 29:38Speaker 7: And if you look at most polls, most polls show.
- 29:41Speaker 8: That that most people think we're on the wrong track. Well,
- 29:45Speaker 8: this is an effort, a very very monumental effort to
- 29:51Speaker 8: shift the track of the whole nation less consumption war production.
- 29:58Speaker 7: That's huge.
- 30:00Speaker 8: And if the plan works out, production of course creates
- 30:07Speaker 8: more income. With more income at all levels, hopefully then
- 30:12Speaker 8: you have less need for social programs. You know, everyone
- 30:18Speaker 8: gets wealthier and more productive, has more income. Now that
- 30:24Speaker 8: is not to say there's not going to be a
- 30:26Speaker 8: lot of pain. I think the President said there's going
- 30:28Speaker 8: to be pain in this, and prices are going to
- 30:31Speaker 8: go up. We can debate technically whether that will is
- 30:37Speaker 8: a function of reignited inflation or it's a step change
- 30:43Speaker 8: in price levels, and there's a difference.
- 30:45Speaker 7: But I'm not going to get overly wonky with this.
- 30:50Speaker 8: It's a grand strategy and I think we all get
- 30:52Speaker 8: should get behind the president in this effort.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Now, Red, you disagree with the other economists as far
- 30:57Speaker 3: as the protectionism, and you feel like Trump's in the right,
- 31:02Speaker 3: other economists economists are in the wrong. Can you explain
- 31:05Speaker 3: that real quick?
- 31:09Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a little wonky.
- 31:10Speaker 8: But we go back to a economist of several centuries ago,
- 31:17Speaker 8: David Riccardo, and he compared England and Portugal in the
- 31:23Speaker 8: production of cloth in wine. So keep a distinction near
- 31:28Speaker 8: your mind between absolute advantage in comparative advantage. Portugal, he posited,
- 31:34Speaker 8: had an absolute advantage in both, a ten percent advantage
- 31:40Speaker 8: in cloth, a fifty percent advantage in wine.
- 31:44Speaker 7: Well, if you.
- 31:45Speaker 8: Think about it, it makes more sense for Portugal to
- 31:49Speaker 8: produce just wine. They've got a fifty percent advantage or
- 31:55Speaker 8: profit margin. Why would they waste any of their energy
- 31:59Speaker 8: on cloth? They only have a ten percent advantage if
- 32:02Speaker 8: they don't produce cloth, then England can produce cloth even
- 32:06Speaker 8: though it's got a slight disadvantage. So what happens here
- 32:11Speaker 8: is Portugal has a comparative advantage in why and England
- 32:16Speaker 8: has a comparative advantage in cloth.
- 32:21Speaker 7: All seems to work.
- 32:22Speaker 8: However, it relies on two things, two assumptions. One there's
- 32:27Speaker 8: no mobility of capital and I'm not going to explain.
- 32:30Speaker 7: Then, and two that each nation is going.
- 32:36Speaker 8: To operate rationally and follow that objective. And it relies
- 32:43Speaker 8: upon the idea that the two nations have some general
- 32:47Speaker 8: sense of.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Parity. Right, so you have a difference of ten.
- 32:54Speaker 8: What if Portugal has a seventy five percent advantage in both,
- 32:58Speaker 8: it puts England out of business?
- 33:01Speaker 1: Out of business.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Read listen to the.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Music is playing.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I gotta take a break.
- 33:05Speaker 3: You want to stick around one more segment with me?
- 33:10Speaker 7: Yeah, let's continue this. It gets all right again. I

- 38:24Speaker 3: reddashline dot com. He's written a brilliant column that I
- 38:27Speaker 3: think you all should read, and unfortunately I had to
- 38:30Speaker 3: cut him off in the middle of him giving you
- 38:33Speaker 3: this sort of explanation of all that. So Red, if
- 38:36Speaker 3: you want to reset that and give that the floor
- 38:38Speaker 3: is yours wherever you want to take us for the
- 38:40Speaker 3: end here.
- 38:44Speaker 7: Hey Ley, Thanks. We were talking about free free trade theory.
- 38:49Speaker 8: We went through the conventional analysis that dates back to an A.
- 38:54Speaker 8: Colm As several centuries ago David Ricardo who made a
- 39:00Speaker 8: distinction between absolute advantage and comparative advantage.
- 39:04Speaker 7: And comparative advantage is the key in terms.
- 39:07Speaker 8: Of the supporters of pre trade.
- 39:12Speaker 7: But I posited that.
- 39:15Speaker 8: Free trade relies on some degree of parody between the
- 39:19Speaker 8: trading partners, that you're very roughly equals in most respects.
- 39:26Speaker 8: So if the US trades with Europe, we're on parodies,
- 39:32Speaker 8: and we should trade in terms of comparative dvantage. Europe
- 39:36Speaker 8: may do something, you know, more efficiently and productively than
- 39:40Speaker 8: we do, and vice versa, and thus you have an
- 39:44Speaker 8: advantage from pre trade. But enter China, and China has
- 39:51Speaker 8: a seventy five percent advantage in manufacturing and they crush
- 39:59Speaker 8: our manufact lecturing sector. And we had reviewed the fact
- 40:04Speaker 8: that free trade in its origins had relied upon the
- 40:08Speaker 8: idea that capital is not mobile. Okay, well, what happened
- 40:15Speaker 8: after China, and even to get before China joined the
- 40:19Speaker 8: World Trade Organization is capital flooded into China to take
- 40:25Speaker 8: advantage and leverage its.
- 40:27Speaker 7: Low cost labor, and so.
- 40:31Speaker 8: We wound up with a Chinese manufacturing juggernaut, and it
- 40:37Speaker 8: decimated the US manufacturing sector, illustrating that if capital is mobile,
- 40:45Speaker 8: the real determinant of free trade is labor cost. So
- 40:52Speaker 8: we need to erect some trade barriers, some protective barriers,
- 40:59Speaker 8: otherwise all of our manufacturing and production will go overseas
- 41:03Speaker 8: to lower cost labor locations. And here's here's here the
- 41:09Speaker 8: kind of you know, paradox the most advanced nation, let's
- 41:16Speaker 8: recognize the United States. We're going to share the fruits
- 41:20Speaker 8: of that advanced position across our entire society, right, so
- 41:28Speaker 8: that is going to be shared mostly through higher labor rates.
- 41:34Speaker 7: So the the the.
- 41:37Speaker 8: What you take away from your advanced position, it undermines
- 41:41Speaker 8: the basis of your advanced position. As your labor rates
- 41:46Speaker 8: go up, your productive capacity goes overseas. So we need
