- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:18presented by Sea Kick. This episode 505 I'll be your
- 0:21host, Kyle Corwin, and I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:27Nate. Happy Wednesday.
- 0:32Boy, does it feel like a Wednesday.
- 0:37This. I think I'll take a Monday over
- 0:41whatever today was, you know? Yeah, yeah.
- 0:47This was tough. This was a tough one for me.
- 0:50This was a tough one. If you had real quick days of
- 0:56the week draft just lightning fast, just I'm curious what what
- 1:01your thoughts are Days of the week draft.
- 1:07Saturday 1st pick for sure. See, I don't I, I don't know
- 1:12because. Yeah, I know you're.
- 1:14I know Friday for you I. Love Friday, man, because you,
- 1:17the, The thing is, is you, you're not going to really have,
- 1:20I mean, unless you actively make plans for Saturday, you don't
- 1:23necessarily have things on Saturday.
- 1:25So Friday, knowing that it's the end of the week, knowing that
- 1:29you get Friday evening to kick the weekend off and you
- 1:31potentially don't have anything the day after, I would almost
- 1:35say Friday is the move. If we're drafting, if we're
- 1:38drafting day, I hear you, but I'm a big sleep in guy.
- 1:43And and I can't have that on, which is all the more reason
- 1:47Friday is a great day to look forward to that because Sunday
- 1:52you might have that church. Sunday you might have to go see
- 1:54the family. That's like saying the ALCS is
- 1:57better than the World Series because you're looking forward
- 1:59to apples and oranges. Apples and oranges.
- 2:03Give me Saturday, Friday, Sunday.
- 2:08Honestly I don't think it matters other than that.
- 2:12Like after that it just it just doesn't matter.
- 2:15That's fair, That's fair. You want a.
- 2:18You want a quick puppy update? Quick quick double update.
- 2:21Yeah, let's, let's hear it. So yesterday, Tuesday, we we
- 2:28come home. I come home from work.
- 2:31I take Gracie on like a decent sized walk, like a good like
- 2:34half hour walk, come back inside, work a little bit more.
- 2:40Paige gets home and then we both go on the walk together.
- 2:44So she gets like another 45 minute walk after that, right?
- 2:50Got to go to small group. So go to Bible study, come back.
- 2:53Two hours later, she got into the pantry.
- 2:59Dude. And crushed, I would guess $6070
- 3:06worth of food. Oh man.
- 3:08An entire thing of the King's Hawaiian sweet rolls.
- 3:13She's got good taste. Goldfish cheddar blast.
- 3:19Extra cheddar blast. I can't knock her for going
- 3:22after what she is. She clearly knows what she likes
- 3:24and she went out tortilla. Chips.
- 3:26Cliff Builder bar Kind breakfast.
- 3:29Bar. Is there anything there that she
- 3:31got into that wasn't well, that just didn't?
- 3:34Not a banger of a snack. I mean, come on.
- 3:37She did well. She cleaned up.
- 3:39Not. Not literally, not literally,
- 3:41because after she was done with that, she got into the trash and
- 3:45and knocked that over and and shredded all that stuff too.
- 3:48So that was fun to come home too.
- 3:50Oh, and she pissed in the hallway on on top of.
- 3:52All of it. So I'm going to eat your food
- 3:55and. Didn't I didn't know how to
- 4:00feel. Paige and I were just like in a
- 4:02silent, infuriated. State.
- 4:08For like 2 hours. Dude, she said.
- 4:10I'm going to eat all your food and I'm going to disrespect you
- 4:13to your face. Unbelievable.
- 4:16Yeah, she's pooped like 7 times since then.
- 4:20She threw up a full Hawaiian roll and I was like, where's the
- 4:24other 11? You know, you just have a rock
- 4:28in your stomach of King's Hawaiian rolls tough.
- 4:33Yeah, being a dog, Dad, is, is not, is not easy, man.
- 4:38They don't. They don't prep you for this.
- 4:39Stuff. They don't prepare you for these
- 4:40moments. Speaking of which, great hat.
- 4:42And if you're not watching on YouTube, figure it out.
- 4:47Figure it out. It's a good hat.
- 4:50Appreciate it. Christmas gift Speaking of
- 4:55Christmas gift, the Blue Jays got a gift to their own.
- 5:00Oh the fuck the Segway king dude.
- 5:02Finally, it's about time and I'll be honest with you, I feel
- 5:07like in my head, I got to, I got to take a step back here because
- 5:12I, I, I feel like we gave Anthony Santander the respect he
- 5:16was due. Because when you really look at
- 5:18the primarily the power numbers, you go this guy, at least for
- 5:23the last through call it three years in baseball has been one
- 5:27of the better power bats, not just in the American League.
- 5:31He's not just in the American League, but all of baseball.
- 5:35So I want to preface it by saying that that like we we have
- 5:38given him his due, but I feel like maybe in our heads, correct
- 5:43me if I'm wrong here. Are we do we overhype it?
- 5:46No, no, no. Are we overhyping the the move
- 5:49to Toronto on behalf of the Blue Jays just because the it's it's
- 5:53a name like they finally got somebody like we're treating
- 5:56we're treating the Blue Jays getting Anthony Santander as if
- 6:01it was fill in the blank team getting a a a player, maybe a
- 6:05tear up. Do you get what I'm saying?
- 6:11I get it. We're going, I think I.
- 6:14Can I think I can take a bite out of that, Yeah.
- 6:16Do you get, do you hear, do you, do you kind of pick up what I'm
- 6:19what I'm putting down? I think so, or am I just?
- 6:21Pulling this way out of left field.
- 6:23Because no, I think I've picked it up.
- 6:25I think I've picked it up. You put it down and I picked it
- 6:26up. I'm glad because like, if this
- 6:32is the biggest move the Blue Jays make all offseason, it's
- 6:35like, I mean, they got they got a body, they got a warm body.
- 6:39And that's no disrespect to Santander, but like again, you
- 6:42go back to their, the, the, the, the track record of the Blue
- 6:50Jays. And similar to like the Padres,
- 6:54you're just throwing money at the wall.
- 6:56The Giants, even they're throwing money at the wall.
- 6:58See, see what sticks? See which player, which free
- 7:01agent goes up and grabs it. This time it was Anthony
- 7:04Santander, which by the way, I saw a quote the other day or, or
- 7:08from the presser, I guess it was actually yesterday.
- 7:12Where was it like the, the president of baseball OPS or
- 7:19somebody in the front office? I apparently told him, yeah, we
- 7:23had a jersey with your name, float with your name on it
- 7:27floating around the office all offseason.
- 7:29I'm like, no, you didn't. No, you didn't.
- 7:32You, maybe you were tied to Anthony Santander, but let's not
- 7:35pretend like this was this was written in the stars.
- 7:39I'm so out on a free agent signing, needing to have some
- 7:48type of extended time attachment storyline.
- 7:56Like every, every free agent is like, here's a picture of me as
- 8:00a kid in this uniform. And I'm like, dude, if you
- 8:05played for any Little League in our generation, I was a giant.
- 8:09I was a Cardinal. I, I, we, you were an Astro.
- 8:13Like we were all over the place. Oh, this is fun.
- 8:15No, this is a fun exercise. Let me let me go back and think
- 8:18here. OK, I was.
- 8:20I was a Cardinal way too many times by the way.
- 8:22True. Same.
- 8:23That was probably my yeah, I was like, that was, I was like Rich
- 8:27Hill in the Red Sox. It was like, oh, I guess I'm
- 8:29going back to the Cardinals. All right.
- 8:32I was in in an alternate universe if I made it to the big
- 8:35leagues and I'm a big league player getting ready for let's
- 8:38say my my 6 big league season and the storyline that they're
- 8:42going to show at at my my at bats for my All Star game
- 8:49appearance is going to be Can you believe that?
- 8:53Kyle donned a fill in the blank jersey.
- 8:56I was AI was a Philly. I was a I was a Philly.
- 9:01That was my first, first ever team, actually.
- 9:04T-ball, Phillies, Diamondbacks, Orioles, White Sox, Rangers,
- 9:15Astros, Cardinals. There's some more in there.
- 9:25I know there. Were we're not counting club
- 9:26team, right? We're just, we're just talking
- 9:28SYA, SYA. That's all.
- 9:30Yeah, that's all it was for me. Yeah, think my first team I was
- 9:33a Rocky. Oh yeah, Rockies I was a Rocky
- 9:37for. Sure.
- 9:37I was Rocky D backs was like coach pitch.
- 9:44There's a big gap here. I don't know what happened after
- 9:47that. I think I think that was like
- 9:50the stretch of Cardinals there. There could have been a four or
- 9:54five year run on the Cardinals. Like if I was to put into the
- 9:58SYA Hall of Fame, I'd have to probably wear a Cardinals lid
- 10:02and then went to Giants and then when then and then when the
- 10:09Nationals came to town, the Giants team stayed together, but
- 10:15we we switched, correct? Internationals.
- 10:19I remember that, yeah. But to your point, there's it,
- 10:23there's. But there's always, they always
- 10:25have to tie it in this like stop, it's OK.
- 10:28It's OK to just like, just have a.
- 10:32Guy like hey. We made it happen.
- 10:34It doesn't have to be like, oh, I, I got Santander tattooed on
- 10:40my on my arm three years ago waiting to get you.
- 10:44Like shut up. It's fine.
- 10:46You don't have to go. It's a business.
- 10:48Creepy like stalker status. Saying that like I've we've been
- 10:53tied to you forever. No, you haven't.
- 10:56No, you haven't. If this was a priority of yours,
- 10:59Blue Jays, this would have happened two months ago, so I
- 11:03don't want to hear it. I'm out on those.
- 11:06All done. Blue Jays So does this move the
- 11:11needle for you in terms of in terms of the offense?
- 11:16It has? It has to it has to because I
- 11:18just got done saying that like we gave him the respect he was
- 11:21due for the for the very reason that the power numbers are there
- 11:25indisputable He and it's not just a it's it's not just coming
- 11:28off of a hot year. I mean he is, but it's not just
- 11:31that alone. It's not that isolated 3 years.
- 11:36We're, we're going on now this, we're assuming he's able to
- 11:39replicate his efforts last year to some degree, maybe not to the
- 11:43same degree, but similar degree. That'll be four years in a row
- 11:46that we're talking about the, the power that he he provides
- 11:51whatever offense he's a part of so.
- 11:54He brings some pop. And he helps the line up, but in
- 11:59that division, forget, forget the league as a whole in that
- 12:03division, I just don't know how much it it moves.
- 12:06It moves them up the the board if it all.
- 12:10You just don't have a ton of depth.
- 12:12And we do have to remind ourselves, like Bob Bouchette
- 12:15had a terrible year last year. Right, so some things need.
- 12:18To go right, that's the norm, I think.
- 12:21I think he'll come back to what's normal, at least close to
- 12:24it. Vlad did have a good year last
- 12:27year. I'm assuming in a walk year
- 12:30potentially he's going to pop off throwing a switch hitter to
- 12:38split those guys up. Kind of weird.
- 12:42Do you imagine Santander in the Santander in the two hole if you
- 12:47were to assume that's the route? I don't, I don't really know
- 12:50their line up. I mean, do you go, do you try to
- 12:54get Varsho back on the horse and lead him off and then go Boba
- 12:58shet to Santander? 3 Vladi 4 Vlad?
- 13:03I love that. I don't know.
- 13:04Vlad being 4. Vladi right now is projected in
- 13:06the two holes, Santander 3, Bichette 4, which I'm not wild
- 13:10about. I would rather Springer.
- 13:13I would rather hedge my bets on Bichette being having a having a
- 13:18bounce back being but and again, I'm throwing left right switch
- 13:24out the window. I don't care about that and I
- 13:26know that I'm not a big league manager.
- 13:28So what what difference does my opinion make?
- 13:31But in in looking at, dare I say traditional lineup fits, I'm
- 13:37looking more at the type of hitter you are and less about
- 13:41which side of the plate you come from.
- 13:43Because you you see guys with with I mean, reverse splits are
- 13:46very much a thing in baseball. And it's certainly a case by
- 13:49case basis there. And I'm not saying that Bichette
- 13:52has reverse splits or Flatty has reverse splits, but just in
- 13:56terms of the type of hitter you are, I see again, traditionally
- 14:00speaking, Beau Bichette fitting in as like a two guy and maybe
- 14:05bump. I would I, if Vladdy is
- 14:07projected to have the year that I think many people are hoping
- 14:10that he does, given the nature of his status in impending free
- 14:16agency, put Vladdy in the three hole, let him pop off.
- 14:19You have Santander in the four hole as a as a little bit of
- 14:22protection and then you you figure it out five through 9
- 14:26because you I mean you. Added That's where the depth is
- 14:29that I'm talking about. I struggle, I struggle with the
- 14:31back half of that line up, but like, I don't know, like Bo Bo
- 14:36hitting four, just I, I just picture him slapping singles
- 14:42through the right side and, and you're, I struggle seeing Vlad
- 14:46scoring from second over and over.
- 14:49I struggle seeing a Santander getting 1st to 3rd.
- 14:53Like I don't know, like I, I, I would probably prefer to have a
- 14:56little bit of speed up top. And I don't know, George
- 15:00Springer is awash for me. Like I, the guy's going to play
- 15:0390 games every year. Like it's just, I think he's
- 15:07done. I think he's washed.
- 15:08So relying on him as a lead off like everyday guys just doesn't
- 15:13feel that way. Well, let me ask you this, with
- 15:16the names that are still out there, do you think the Blue
- 15:18Jays are done? Do you think that they could?
- 15:22Because look, we, we, we, we love to joke about it.
- 15:28And to our credit, it, it ends up falling through more times
- 15:31than not. But every offseason do you get
- 15:35to a point in free agency where the whole mystery team news text
- 15:41alert update that you that you get seemingly a dozen times in
- 15:45offseason. You get to a point in the
- 15:47offseason where some teams start to get a little desperate and
- 15:51they make a move for a guy and those things act that that alert
- 15:55actually holds true. So are the Blue Jays maybe A and
- 16:00I, I use mystery term term mystery team loosely because I
- 16:04know that, you know, they have ever so slightly been connected
- 16:10to an Alonso, maybe even a Bregman.
- 16:14So it's there. They wouldn't be a true dark
- 16:16horse in that regard. But could you could you see some
- 16:21some addition being made of one of those two?
- 16:24Potentially I can see Bregman. I can see Bregman more than
- 16:28Pete. I feel like if you go Pete, it
- 16:32gives me like the the Red Sox getting Trevor Story before a
- 16:37Xander Walkier vibe, you know what I'm saying?
- 16:41Like a like a like a safety net Will will play him in this
- 16:46position while they're both on the roster and then slide him in
- 16:50when we lose this guy. So that you.
- 16:53I feel like PETA just closes the door on Vladdy.
- 16:56Even if he does hit the market next year, you could still
- 17:00negotiate, obviously, like you could still resign him.
- 17:04They've got the money. Yeah, yeah.
- 17:05And I think, I think the extensions done I I, I think
- 17:09it's kind of silly to still get these notifications that they're
- 17:13in talks. I think Vlad's definitely going
- 17:17to hit the market. I think it's dumb for him not to
- 17:22and and just try to drive that number up a little bit.
- 17:26So I I would lean Bregman more as as the fit there.
- 17:34And if you put Bregman in that lineup, that that gets me
- 17:40feeling, that gets me feeling some things.
- 17:43I mean, for what it's worth, Will Wagner is projected to be
- 17:47their DH right now, so it's not like Pete.
- 17:50I agree with you in terms of Bregman.
- 17:52I think Bregman is just a more versatile fit for any team that
- 17:58ultimately gets him. Well, what are they projecting?
- 18:01Are they projecting? Santander.
- 18:04Santander and left. So yeah, but so that's what I'm
- 18:07saying. You like you.
- 18:09I I get your comparison with with Xander and story and all
- 18:12that, but this theoretically could work more so than that
- 18:18because with that you had to bump story over.
- 18:23You had, you had to move around. It's just, it wasn't as seamless
- 18:25of a fit. But with this, you could easily
- 18:27slot one end at at 1st and and the other is the DH and, and not
- 18:31even think twice about it and just and make a run at it this
- 18:35year. Even if you lose out on Vladdy,
- 18:37you could you still have two names there that you could work
- 18:40with this. For sure.
- 18:41See, to me, like I, I would prefer to rotate Santander and
- 18:47Springer at the DH spot. I need to look at that roster.
- 18:51But rotate those two guys between right field and DH, then
- 18:57I'm going to feel a little bit better about the longevity.
- 19:05I want to see who their other outfielders are.
- 19:10Right now they got Nathan Lukes. That's where I was.
- 19:16I was missing a name. So yeah, man, I could see, I
- 19:23could see low Profito on left or Springer.
- 19:28I mean, excuse me. Or Varsho in center or rotate
- 19:32those two. Put Varsho on left.
- 19:34I think low Profito is going to play a lot.
- 19:37Put him in center. I know he struggled with the
- 19:39stick after they traded for him, but that's a good name.
- 19:42That's a really, that's a prospect that everyone should
- 19:44pay attention to. And you know that David
- 19:49Schneider is going to float around and, and get his time,
- 19:53get his time in different spots, whether it be, you know, in the
- 19:56infield or occasionally starting and left or whatever.
- 20:00So I think getting Springer off his feet and keeping him healthy
- 20:05is probably priority #1 like, let him.
- 20:08Like you're attached to, you're attached to that name, you're
- 20:11attached to that contract. There's you're not getting out
- 20:13of it, you're not moving him. You got to make sure you can get
- 20:16anything you can out of him. So allowing him to DH more
- 20:19often. So I just, I feel like Alonso
- 20:22would be like a forced fit. I feel like Alonso would be like
- 20:25a we missed out on so, so many other names.
- 20:29And you know, kind of what you were talking about, like what
- 20:32the giants seemingly do pre Buster Posey, throwing money at
- 20:38the wall and and throwing contracts at the wall.
- 20:39And just seeing like, hey, you know, this will work.
- 20:43And then you look at the 4th or 5th place finish or whatever in
- 20:46the division, you're just like man.
- 20:49See I disagree. I don't know if force is the
- 20:51right word. I I'm still with you.
- 20:52I think Bregman would be a better.
- 20:54Holes. I think Bregman would be a
- 20:56better fit, but I think generally speaking, you're not
- 20:59going to be upset with either of those.
- 21:04We don't have to go on to, not to mention on, we don't have to.
- 21:06Go on anymore about the. Blue Jays.
- 21:07Yeah, let's not. Let's not forget that move too,
- 21:10you know what I mean? Yeah, but I'm not.
- 21:12I'd be I'd be not feel good about that line up.
- 21:16I would feel good about that line up if if Bregman slides in,
- 21:20but they still I feel like the rotation needs to get bolstered
- 21:24a little bit and I don't even know like what options.
- 21:28Latest on Bregman is that he and the Dodgers or he and the
- 21:33Dodgers he and the Tigers at at a standstill.
- 21:39No, I mentioned Dodgers because we got to get into some Dodgers
- 21:42talk here. Kirby Yates, it's not official
- 21:46last I checked, but the plan is they're I mean they're they've
- 21:51reached a tentative agreements according to Bob and Nightingale
- 21:57pending a physical. So that has yet to be officially
- 22:01reported at this exact moment in time.
- 22:04That could change very quickly, but we got to talk about this
- 22:09for just a minute. But I think we do have a
- 22:13voicemail on on this very topic. Love the voicemails.
- 22:22I think it's voicemail time. Hey, fellas, AJ Torres.
- 22:28It's been a while, I know. And I just want to say something
- 22:33that nobody else is going to say, but I'm going to do it
- 22:37anyway. I'm not pissed off at the
- 22:40Dodgers. I'm pissed off at the majority
- 22:43of the owners and the general managers of baseball because
- 22:47it's disgraceful. I'll give credit to some
- 22:51organizations, of course. Well, if you are a poverty
- 22:55organization like the Mariners and I'll give a pass through
- 23:00some of them that are in a money crisis because of God forbid the
- 23:04ratings like the Padres and the owner passing away.
- 23:07But when you see things like Kirby Yates going to the
- 23:10Dodgers, you know Kyle Finnegan on the market.
- 23:16It's like you're telling me that every team can't use an extra
- 23:19bullpen on to make sure that the bullpen is in tax for the whole
- 23:23entire year. It's absolutely crazy.
- 23:26It's like they're not even trying anymore.
- 23:29It's absolutely freaking despicable.
- 23:32Majority of the general managers are to blame because you you
- 23:36can't tank in the sport for a hard and 62 games.
- 23:40You cannot tank. You want butts and seats?
- 23:43Give a damn try. There's guys out there, guys for
- 23:48cheap, guys that'll help the ball club.
- 23:51And while everyone waits on their hands and knees and wants
- 23:54to pay pennies, the Dodgers will say hold my beer, which
- 23:58apparently going to be like $30 a pop this offseason into the
- 24:02new season, but I digress. But come on, everybody's doing
- 24:07nothing. The Dodgers are just getting
- 24:09better. Screw blaming the Dodgers, Blame
- 24:13the other teams. Take it easy, fellas.
- 24:16Hey, Phil, it's AJ Torres. It's been a while.
- 24:19I know. We're running it back.
- 24:21We're. Running it back, I guess.
- 24:22I don't know why they did that. It's not.
- 24:24So here's the deal. I had to upload it to the web
- 24:27sound board because my actual sound board's not working.
- 24:31So whatever. I heard the repeat.
- 24:34Yeah. I'm such a dweeb.
- 24:38Yeah. I mean, sort of a summary of
- 24:40kind of what we talked about last episode.
- 24:42It's it, it you can't, it's easy to see and I'll, I'll admit I'm,
- 24:47I'm guilty of it. I saw the Kirby Yates update and
- 24:50I'm like, and I tweeted out, I was like, who pissed off the
- 24:55Dodgers? But then you have to take a step
- 24:57back and I, I, I saw a few takes that expressed or or rather
- 25:03brought this back down to earth. And they're like, look, it's
- 25:07easy to get upset because you see Kirby Yates signs with fill
- 25:12in the blank with Dodgers. It's easy to get upset over
- 25:15that. But in reality, I would venture
- 25:19to say if any other team in baseball really, really wanted
- 25:23them, you can't, you can't say the same for Sasaki.
- 25:26You probably can't say the same thing for Snell or or anybody
- 25:30else. Essentially that's gone to the
- 25:31Dodgers, Dodgers in the last 24 months.
- 25:36But I would have to think that if you really wanted Kirby
- 25:41Yates, you probably could have gotten them before the Dodgers
- 25:44got to him. I think the Dodgers were just
- 25:46looking around at this point in the offseason going.
- 25:51I mean, let's keep this thing, Roland know who's left.
- 25:55Maybe we need a reliever. We don't need a reliever, but we
- 25:59haven't we haven't added a reliever in 24 hours.
- 26:02So let's go add a reliever. They go get Kirby Yates and then
- 26:05the the corresponding report is that they're they're now
- 26:07shopping Ryan Brasher. So it's literally.
- 26:11Stopping him for what? It's well, you, you add a
- 26:15reliever, apparently you got to get rid of a reliever.
- 26:17It's it's vintage, just classic fantasy baseball management
- 26:22where you're just like, I'm kind of tired of this toy.
- 26:24I'm going to I'm going to check the the the waivers and see what
- 26:28I can, what I can pick up. And you just add, you add a guy
- 26:32and then he may not even play for you by the before the next
- 26:36days worth of games hits, you've already dropped that guy.
- 26:40It's possible the Dodgers end up dropping Kirby Yates for and
- 26:44picks and pick somebody else up or trade him for or trade him
- 26:47for somebody else that they like a little bit more because
- 26:49they're it's it's monopoly. They're playing with, with house
- 26:53money at this point. And I can't even be upset at
- 26:57them because they're they're, they're identifying their needs,
- 27:01their wants, and they're going out and getting them.
- 27:02So I'm not even. I can't even.
- 27:04Going to be upset. I can't say needs I, I do.
- 27:09Agree with you, to them it's a need I guess.
- 27:15Run me through the rotation. Tell me like you don't look it
- 27:18up. I know you've got it.
- 27:20Like we can run through this. OK, I'll.
- 27:22I'll put this down. Will the show Hey.
- 27:25OK, we got show. Hey.
- 27:26In no particular order. Show Hey, Glass now.
- 27:30Snell. Snell.
- 27:32Yamamoto, Sasaki. No.
- 27:37Who is the 6th, though? There was a 6th before you got
- 27:39to that, that tier. Gavin Stone.
- 27:45No Gold Stone's out this year, I believe.
- 27:50Maybe. OK, maybe it was 5.
- 27:51Ohtani Snell, Yamamoto Glass. Now Sasaki Kershaw.
- 27:55If you bring him back, if and when you bring him back.
- 27:58Dustin May. Bobby Miller, we said, Gonsalin,
- 28:04we said Stone, who again, I think is is out.
- 28:08Someone has to pitch in the bullpen and then you start
- 28:12throwing out those names. Vessia Brazier.
- 28:17Gradurol. Yeats, Kolpek, Evan Phillips,
- 28:22Trinin. Vessia.
- 28:25Did I say Vessia already? Kenley Jansen's trying to combat
- 28:28like he is. He is willing to pitch for
- 28:30peanuts at this point so he can go back to Lai.
- 28:37It's cool man. Like do what you want to do.
- 28:39Like they're, they're clearly doing whatever they want to do.
- 28:44It is weird that other teams aren't, aren't hopping on these
- 28:47deals, but you know, whatever. I don't, I don't know.
- 28:50I did see a funny Reddit comment that I definitely had to.
- 28:57Mr. A Mr. AC Milan in the chat we cut we.
- 29:01Rewind a little bit. You just missed us.
- 29:04We talked potential Alonzo to the Jays move just moments ago.
- 29:08So. Send it back about 1520 minutes.
- 29:12We covered it. Don't want you to think we
- 29:15forgot about you, all right? The Reddit comment is great.
- 29:20Breaking you. Yes, you, the reader, have
- 29:23reached a tentative deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, pending
- 29:26a physical. It's everybody, man.
- 29:28It's just I, I'm running out of, I'm running out of places like
- 29:40some guys aren't going to be able to play some, some guys
- 29:43aren't going to get innings. It's, it's going to be
- 29:46interesting. I think it is now shifted to
- 29:49where there might be some sort of pressure on Dave Roberts to
- 29:56get everybody the ample amount of time to to make sure that
- 30:01like you're not ditching a hot hand just to get somebody in the
- 30:07line up or in the game from the pen and it's sure.
- 30:12But I mean this that's. A problem to have.
- 30:14There's not too much else he needs to manage.
- 30:16But this isn't 11, you Little League like it.
- 30:19These are grown men. Some guys are just not going to
- 30:22get time and they're just got to be OK with that.
- 30:25Feelings being heard. I'm talking about keeping these,
- 30:28keeping everybody in a good spot.
- 30:31Like if you don't get if you don't get ABS, it's short webs,
- 30:36right? If you're not, if you, you see
- 30:39what it's like when, when a closer doesn't have a save
- 30:44opportunity for a week and then and then a manager just throws
- 30:47them in in a blowout just to get in it and it messes with them,
- 30:52right? It could screw things up.
- 30:53So that's what I'm saying is that like they're that's the
- 30:56only pressure that I can think of.
- 30:58That's the only thing that Dave Roberts is going to have to deal
- 31:02with is managing getting each guy enough, enough time.
- 31:09The only, the only pressure that Dave Roberts is feeling this
- 31:13season that we joked about it last episode, setting the single
- 31:19season wins record. I think that you you're just
- 31:25going to have to do whatever you can to absolutely save this,
- 31:30vaporize anybody that's in front of you, save this clip, save the
- 31:35date that regular season win total record.
- 31:44The sentiment around that, the question from the media that'll
- 31:47be snubbed within two weeks of spring training, it'll be
- 31:53snubbed. For the record, I'm not saying
- 31:55he's waking up and writing that on his whiteboard.
- 31:58I'm it's more of a, it's more of a like a benchmark and less of
- 32:05like an isolated accomplishment. I'm saying that ultimately Dave
- 32:10Roberts is going to do whatever it takes or I would imagine, I
- 32:15would hope, I would think with the pressure that he's more than
- 32:18likely going to be facing this year, given the roster that
- 32:21they've constructed for this season is that they are going to
- 32:24have to go out win every single game.
- 32:27They're going to have to go 162 and O and win by 15 because we
- 32:34talked about last episode, you this team is too good.
- 32:37And you can you can say that about a given team coming into a
- 32:43a new season. Like man, this team is really
- 32:46good. They really it's kind of World
- 32:48Series or bust for them. But the Dodgers quite literally
- 32:52have no choice. I mean you have an All Star and
- 32:57or an MVP candidate at nearly every spot on your roster, even
- 33:07guys on the bench. Talking about them.
- 33:10I'm tired of talking about it too.
- 33:13I'm tired of talking about it too.
- 33:14And I'm not hating. I'm simply saying this is the
- 33:16reality that they're more more than likely going to be facing
- 33:20this season and they're you, you.
- 33:23I mean, you want to talk expectations.
- 33:25That's what they're up against this year because that's that's
- 33:27what they've built. They put the target on their own
- 33:29back. That's, I mean, that's that's
- 33:32just a. Fact I I think there's teams in
- 33:33the past that have put a target on their back and then there's
- 33:36this. I don't know what this is.
- 33:37I don't know what this is. This, this ain't a target.
- 33:40This is I don't know what this is.
- 33:44This is glow in the dark. You can never lose sight of me
- 33:48target. This is reflective short shorts
- 33:54on the on the on the cyclist on the side of the road at night.
- 33:58This is security vest. Orange and neon yellow
- 34:02reflective lining vests. That's right, on a city
- 34:07sidewalk. That's right.
- 34:09Forget the woods. Big old target.
- 34:12We're in broad daylight, can't miss them.
- 34:16Yep. This is what we're dealing with
- 34:17with the Dodgers. Speaking of the Dodgers, future
- 34:24Dodger Paul skeens his card. His MLB debut patch card was
- 34:28found. And you want to do you want to
- 34:33get into a little bit of conspiracy here with this I'm.
- 34:36Down. Always down.
- 34:38I mean the OK the likelihood of this being, I mean the odds of
- 34:43this are slim to none, but I have yet to see anything to
- 34:49disprove this. OK.
- 34:53I don't know. Well, no, you don't have.
- 34:54You're not on Twitter anymore, but friend of the pod Dallas
- 34:59Braden. Known conspiracy theorists.
- 35:04Sure known known pack Ripper tweeted this out three days ago.
- 35:16OK. After ripping what seems to be
- 35:21packs from 10 boxes. OK.
- 35:31He has yet to comment or reveal who it was.
- 35:36OK. Do you know what state Dallas
- 35:38Braden lives in? When you go out on a limb and
- 35:42say Pennsylvania. That's quite a limb and you're
- 35:46wrong and I know that you know the right answer.
- 35:48He lives in California. Not to dox the guy, but I think
- 35:51people can can sort of take that leap.
- 35:57The card was found by an 11 year old collector in California.
- 36:06And I know I'm he's a nice guy. And I'm not saying he he would
- 36:11go as so far to to gift something like this to maybe a
- 36:14family friend or, or something of that nature.
- 36:18But I just find it really interesting that he posts that
- 36:21that debut patch three days ago has yet to reveal who it is, and
- 36:27then three days later the card pops up in California.
- 36:33OK. Is there any can we connect dots
- 36:37between the 11 year old? That's what I'm saying, like I
- 36:40don't know if this is like a family friend situation and and
- 36:44Dallas looked at this and was like, you know what, I've got a
- 36:47good life. I'd I'm going to, I'm going to
- 36:49make somebody else's because we don't know the identity of the
- 36:5311 year old yet. Understandably so, but.
- 36:58I'm just saying, I'm glad that didn't come out right away.
- 37:01I'm, you know, glad we can keep some things under wrap for for a
- 37:07little bit. I don't know.
- 37:11I was, I was expecting a little bit more heat behind that,
- 37:15behind that conspiracy theory. I'm a little let down to be
- 37:18honest with you. It's not a conspiracy theory, I
- 37:20just sort of preface it by saying that it's really.
- 37:23Just you got me too hyped up. That's what I'm saying.
- 37:26Yeah. It's a good question.
- 37:28It's a good journalist question. You know what?
- 37:32I'll take that. I'll take the L there.
- 37:33All right. Look, I was, I was geared up.
- 37:44That's ready to go, that's all. I shouldn't.
- 37:47I shouldn't, yeah. I shouldn't have called it a
- 37:48conspiracy. It's not a conspiracy.
- 37:50It's just. It's there's a lot of people
- 37:51that live in California, so I don't know speculation.
- 37:54This is This is. Falling apart as we speak.
- 37:57But do you not find it odd, though, that we have yet to
- 38:00figure out, we've yet to hear from Dallas, who this debut?
- 38:03Patch is as far as odd goes. Look it up in the dictionary.
- 38:07You will see Dallas Braden's face.
- 38:09So I don't think it's too crazy what I do like, and I think we
- 38:15talked about this when this was first announced that that was
- 38:19put out there and like the Pirates had their offer that we
- 38:22wanted to go to a kid. We didn't want it to go to like
- 38:25some weirdo, you know, stalker collector.
- 38:30Like I just don't get me wrong, you and I both like memorabilia.
- 38:35There's stuff all over our walls.
- 38:36I think it's really cool. I'm not super into baseball
- 38:40cards like I was when I was a kid.
- 38:42Neither are you. I was.
- 38:45There for a minute, but I. Just don't get the the weirdo
- 38:51adult hanging around kids trying to get an autograph leaning
- 38:56through the net before a game. Like I just, I don't, I can't, I
- 39:00can't ever be that guy. Can't get behind it, I agree.
- 39:03So I don't know, the sentiment of it is just like, I want a kid
- 39:07to win. I want a kid to pull this card.
- 39:12Logistics suck for the Pirates, you know what I mean?
- 39:15Like the Pirates threw that offer out there potentially
- 39:19hoping that like, you know, someone in at least the
- 39:22Northeast region would win to be able to, you know, attend and
- 39:27take advantage of those. They said the in California
- 39:30well. Well, they said the offer is
- 39:31still saying so I don't like, I don't know what that looks like.
- 39:36Was the kid just never going to go to school?
- 39:37It's this is 11 year old Dell. I mean, that's about the right
- 39:42age to start admiring Olivia Dunn.
- 39:44You know what I mean? That's about when you start,
- 39:47when you start getting eyes for that.
- 39:49So that. That does.
- 39:51That throws a wrench into. It at Liposki and watch out
- 39:54buddy. You should have never put that
- 39:56patch on your uniform. That's all I'll say.
- 40:00Man, that's cool though. That's cool.
- 40:04What? And we, I think we went over it
- 40:06last time. What it what is it worth like on
- 40:08a monetary What they? Say like 500K.
- 40:16That's cool, man, That's cool. A Millie Bridge of October
- 40:22podcast. Obviously here in the chat they
- 40:25they'd have the inside scoop a little bit.
- 40:29It's nice to be able to break down the the Pirates offer.
- 40:35Yeah, I mean, you could. You could.
- 40:36Can you put a price on, you know, hanging out with, with a,
- 40:42with a hot chick when you're 11 years old?
- 40:47That's, you know, you, you can. It's a tough argument.
- 40:51I mean, you're at that age. Reality of it is you're at that
- 40:55age where you can sort of like, you can sort of do your
- 40:57flirting, but it's not weird because you're 11 years old.
- 41:00What are they going? Of course, Libby Dunn's going to
- 41:02eat it up. What did we do every time we
- 41:05travelled for club baseball when we were 11 years old?
- 41:08We hit a Hooters every time. That's just, I don't know what,
- 41:12I don't know what teams you were on.
- 41:13I never made my way to Hooters at 11.
- 41:16And one of the kids always pretended that it was his
- 41:18birthday. That's just how we rolled Austin
- 41:22Redmond, if you're listening. You were always leading that
- 41:25that charge for sure. So yeah, definitely that.
- 41:29Yeah, that's definitely that age, you know, So it's a part of
- 41:37the equation. If that 11 year old's listening,
- 41:43don't take the offer it. I mean, it's it's it's great
- 41:47that the pirates did that and all, but don't take it.
- 41:50It's a. Good story.
- 41:51I would, I would sit on that puppy and and let that number go
- 41:55up and, you know, have college paid for, get a house.
- 42:04All that stuff is taken care of right away.
- 42:07That's a dream. That's the dream.
- 42:10Speaking of dream, the dreams of three baseball legends came true
- 42:17yesterday. Ichiro, CC Sabathia and Billy
- 42:24Wagner. Before I forget, I don't want
- 42:26it. I don't want to let it pass
- 42:27because I know we'll get into these, these guys.
- 42:29But before I forget, just major props, major major props to
- 42:34Billy Wagner. Hold it down for us D3 athletes
- 42:40out there. Mad props.
- 42:43In fact, we in my playing career, we actually matched up
- 42:48with his, his very own Fareham College.
- 42:52So I, I know it well, he's a Virginia native, holding it down
- 42:56for the VA, holding it down for the D3 athletes.
- 42:59Much love to Billy Wagner. But yes, Ichiro, CC Sabathia,
- 43:03Billy Wagner. Look, the hot topic right now
- 43:09that everyone's, everyone's talking about Ichiro missing the
- 43:14unanimous vote by a single vote. And my take on it is pretty
- 43:22simple, actually, think about it like this.
- 43:27Because I had somebody in the comments on I, I, I put the, the
- 43:31post out on Instagram. Actually, it was friend of the
- 43:35pod, Rocco, part of part of our other friend of the pod, friend
- 43:39of the program, Ryan Ripken's crew of their, what they're
- 43:43doing. Rocco.
- 43:44I, I put his tweet out where he said somebody really took a look
- 43:48at their ballot, saw Itro's name and said, Nah, I'm good.
- 43:52It's a joke that he didn't receive 100%.
- 43:55And then there was somebody in the comments, which, yeah, it
- 43:58was one person that said this, but I'm just going to pretend as
- 44:02though it was 100. Somebody said, so you don't know
- 44:08how Hall of Fame work, how Hall of Fame voting works.
- 44:11Got it. And I said, ah, yes, I forgot
- 44:14the clause that said players can't receive 100% of the vote.
- 44:16Thanks for reminding me. My take on this is simple.
- 44:22As I was saying, there's what, 3, almost 404 hundred voters?
- 44:29There's 394 voters. He got 393.
- 44:35My take on this is real simple. Do I think he should have been
- 44:38unanimous? Absolutely.
- 44:39And you want to know why? If you take 394 voters, you take
- 44:45him to it. Let's just say you take him to a
- 44:46a, a big, a big Convention Center, big wide open room.
- 44:52You have 394 desks laid out with a piece of paper on it, a nice
- 44:56sharpened crisp pencil or pen ballpoint if you choose.
- 45:00A nice comfy chair in case you need extra time and you're going
- 45:05to be there a while. I don't think you will be, but
- 45:07in case you are as a nice comfy chair padded on both sides, it's
- 45:12at A, at a cool 70°. There's a breeze coming through
- 45:18because I've got the doors open. There's even a popcorn vendor
- 45:21over on the side popping some popcorn in case you need a
- 45:23snack, maybe a, a, a, a container of some cool beverages
- 45:28that you could choose if you if you so like, you take that you,
- 45:32you, you sit down, you take your pen, you take your pencil, you
- 45:34sit down for this test. And this test has one question
- 45:38on it. You want to know what the
- 45:41question is. The question is, is Ichiro
- 45:46Suzuki a Hall of Famer? And there's two options on
- 45:50there. You want to know what those two
- 45:51options are? One of them is yes.
- 45:54The other is no. It's a private test.
- 45:58You're not. This isn't a group think
- 46:00activity. This isn't like a hey, let's
- 46:02collaborate, let's get a message board going, let's show our
- 46:05work. You're sitting there, you're
- 46:07taking a test with one question on it.
- 46:12And the question is, is Ichiro a Hall of Famer, Yes or no?
- 46:17There should be 394 yeses coming back to the the the test Proctor
- 46:25in that Convention Center. When those 394 tests get turned
- 46:28in, he shouldn't even have to bother looking because they
- 46:32should all be yeses. So spare me the whole, we talked
- 46:36about this before. Spare me the whole, well, I'm
- 46:38going to, I'm going to save my vote for somebody that needs it.
- 46:41Is the guy a Hall of Famer or not?
- 46:46Is the guy a Hall of Famer or not?
- 46:48We've also, you can go ahead and spare me the whole, well, we got
- 46:51to keep the, the, the sacred element of it.
- 46:54And not, nobody deserves to be unanimous because that would be
- 46:57against the, the, the integrity of the sport.
- 46:59That would go against the competitive nature of the sport,
- 47:02whatever that means. Is Ichiro Hall of Famer?
- 47:06There should be 394 yeses. He should be unanimous because
- 47:10if you watched any part of his career, you would know that he's
- 47:13Hall of Famer. He had a Hall of Fame career
- 47:15after spending what, almost a decade in Japan where he
- 47:22combined over what, over 4000 hits?
- 47:27And I understand that that's what, that, that was his game.
- 47:30But how you can, how you can have the, the arrogance to sit
- 47:37there and say, no, I want to pass.
- 47:40I, I, I don't understand it. And I, I, I, I.
- 47:43It's just further evidence that the Hall is growing as a just
- 47:50joke. Ultimately, the system sucks
- 47:53man. By the way, you should write a
- 47:55book. Really set the tone there.
- 47:58I tried. I really like laying laying the
- 48:01setting the scene. Yeah, you really did.
- 48:05Yeah, Just the system's just broke, man.
- 48:07Like there's, there's no other way around it.
- 48:09These riders, the ego of these guys is just unbearable and it
- 48:22doesn't make any sense, man. Like I think nothing against
- 48:29Billy Wagner and nothing against CC.
- 48:33There's Hall of Farmers and then there's altered the game.
- 48:40Hall of Farmers. Ichiro changed everything,
- 48:48changed it all and was the first Japanese player to to do it.
- 48:56Man, Like it's, it's wild. I don't know, I don't get it,
- 49:03but whatever. I don't I I'm kind of out on the
- 49:06percentages, to be honest with you.
- 49:08It's just, it's not really anything that I'm, I'm going to
- 49:11get too heated about anymore. He's in a homer's a Homer,
- 49:16right? Whether it goes 3:15 or or five
- 49:19O 5, it's out, It's gone. So all famer's all Famer.
- 49:28But yeah, writers are just they're dopey, man.
- 49:31They're this is a joke. I'd I can't even pay attention
- 49:34to it anymore. There's a comment on Facebook
- 49:41that sort of is what stemmed my my little rant earlier, just a
- 49:47minute ago or was related to it. But he said, here's my take.
- 49:54You can argue any of those players being and this was in
- 49:57response to the post I put out sort of a recycled post that I
- 50:01put out each year just as a reminder for for people to let
- 50:05or to remind you who wasn't like the some of the names that
- 50:08weren't unanimous in baseball history.
- 50:10Ken Griffey, Junior, Tom Seaver, Hank Aaron, Tony Gwynn, Randy
- 50:15Johnson, Babe Ruth, Ricky Henderson, Willie Mays, Ted
- 50:18Williams, Roberto Clemente. I, I, I swear every time I read
- 50:23that list, it just makes my blood boil.
- 50:25I'm like, I don't what, what are we even doing anymore?
- 50:28But he said, he said, here's my take.
- 50:29You can argue any of those players being better than
- 50:32another Ruth over Griffey, Ricky over Ted or whatever, but
- 50:37there's no one you can argue who is better than MO.
- 50:40And that's why it was 100% to which I responded, I get that.
- 50:46But my point is, would you look at someone like Ted Williams and
- 50:49say, no, he's not a Hall of Famer?
- 50:51Sure, he may not be the best, but when he's on your ballot and
- 50:55you have the choice of selecting yes or no, it's a simple answer.
- 50:59So again, it goes back to my point is like, we need to stop
- 51:02looking at this as like a ranking system.
- 51:05Is the person a Hall of Famer or not?
- 51:09And if you have somebody who 99.99 repeating percent of the
- 51:15world agrees is and you've got that one person who's like, I
- 51:19just don't see it. That person I saw an idea early
- 51:23on social that I'm a huge fan of should be relegated to some
- 51:26other level of sports journalism.
- 51:28Because you don't belong in the hall.
- 51:30Yeah, yeah, man, it's fair. Like I said, dude, change the
- 51:34game. So super happy for all three of
- 51:38these guys. Each row was just smack dab in
- 51:44the middle of our childhood and you know, and all of us
- 51:49practiced standing there with a wiffle ball bat pulling the
- 51:54sleeve. We I mean, it was incredible to
- 51:57see his his style that no one else had that I don't think
- 52:03anyone else will ever be able to repeat a ridiculous defender on
- 52:11top of that, just a just a a monumental name.
- 52:19And we're officially getting old.
- 52:22We're officially getting there to where we're watching guys
- 52:27that, you know, we grew up, we grew up watching get into the
- 52:31Hall of Fame. But I don't know my man CC
- 52:37that's big, that's big time, literally.
- 52:41I love. No, I'm just kidding.
- 52:42He's he's slimmed down. He's taking care of himself.
- 52:44He. The second he got done the
- 52:47second. Immediately, immediately.
- 52:49Did you catch the video? Him chilling in his in his
- 52:52living room when he got the call, surrounded by people.
- 52:55Yeah, man, it's, it's, it's cool to see even the guys that know
- 52:59that they're pretty much going to get in.
- 53:01It's cool to still like you can be Ichiro, for example.
- 53:06You can be sitting there knowing that you're going to get in, but
- 53:10I just have to imagine, obviously, I don't know, but I
- 53:12would have to imagine that it still doesn't sink in until that
- 53:18phone rings and you're like, this is really happening.
- 53:21And you see that with all these guys.
- 53:23And it's even, it's even more so for guys like Billy Wagner who
- 53:27were, who were waiting and waiting and waiting and you
- 53:30finally get the call and you're like, man.
- 53:33That one, that one's got to feel the sweetest thing.
- 53:36Oh my goodness. Like you, you look at that and
- 53:38you go, I might not be, I might not be Ichiro, I might not even
- 53:41be CC Sabathia in certain respects, but I'm in the same,
- 53:46I'm in the same club as them. I'm in the same fraternity as
- 53:51those guys and that's got to be an awesome feeling.
- 53:53Yeah, yeah. We can sit here and talk numbers
- 53:57for these guys all day, but I don't know how much it matters,
- 54:02You know, Hall of Fame's Hall of Fame, just incredible ground
- 54:07breaking frontier leading guys and super, super happy for all
- 54:16three of them getting in and cool class.
- 54:21You know, I like that. I like the smaller classes for
- 54:23some reason. It just hits a little different.
- 54:26So any guys I put you on the spot here, I don't know if you
- 54:30got any notes on it, Any guys that are off the ballot that are
- 54:33didn't get enough votes? Any guys that just didn't make
- 54:37it that we're we're done talking about?
- 54:43Let's see here I did have that. Andrew Jones was sort of on the
- 54:48outside looking in. But in terms of falling off the
- 54:51ballot completely, we've got Carlos Gonzalez, Curtis
- 54:56Granderson, Adam Jones, Ian Kinsler, Russell Martin, Brian
- 55:00McCann, Hanley Ramirez, Fernando Rodney, Troy Tulowitzki and Ben
- 55:04Zobrist. A.
- 55:06Lot of guys that were their first time on the ballot, which
- 55:10is tough. Regarding Speaking of first
- 55:14ballot next year, Cole Hamels, Ryan Braun and Matt Kemp are
- 55:20three names that will be joining next year.
- 55:23I don't know if I can get there with those 3.
- 55:26I sure can't. Yeah, any, any memories around
- 55:33those three guys? I mean I got to see pretty cool
- 55:36seeing CC throws 3000 strikeouts.
- 55:39Oh, around the three guys I got in, I was like I.
- 55:40Had Chase Field. Couldn't tell you much about
- 55:42Ryan Braun in terms of any particular heartfelt memories I
- 55:46have. I mean, honestly, my, my memory
- 55:50with, with CC is, is you, like you said, going, being able to,
- 55:54being able to catch that. That was awesome.
- 55:57I mean, that's, that's insane. And then that run he went on
- 56:02with, with Milwaukee when he got brought in, I mean, to, to be
- 56:06able to do what he did. You want to talk about a horse?
- 56:09Oh my goodness, You're you're not going to.
- 56:12You don't see that anymore, and you won't.
- 56:14See that anymore? Unbelievable.
- 56:17That was awesome. Yeah, man, I I don't know, I
- 56:20just, it's a sweet spot for me. Dude, like obviously he's a
- 56:24Yankees fan. Like he, he's just, he's always
- 56:27advocated for guys. He's always advocated for
- 56:29players. Just a ton of swag.
- 56:33Jordan guy supports all the good stuff and, and you know, had a
- 56:39little bit of a rough patch personally and came through it.
- 56:43But I don't, I mean, between, between the two things, I would,
- 56:50I would say the biggest two things are when, when he was
- 56:55playing the Rays and it was his last start of the season and he
- 57:00was about to reach, I think it was 150 innings or something
- 57:03like that. It's for a bonus.
- 57:05It was like 500 Ki think wasn't. It it was like to reach a bonus
- 57:09that was like a good chunk and he retaliated off of one of his
- 57:15guys getting hit the inning prior and hit a ray and got
- 57:19tossed and only needed that half inning to get over the hump.
- 57:23But then screaming at the Rays dugout like just a big old
- 57:29freaking grizzly bear dude like. 500K.
- 57:32One of the coolest guys, man. Good teammate, I bet.
- 57:36And yeah, and then the other one, just like his arm blown
- 57:41out. And that was his last time on
- 57:43the mound, you know what I mean? Like, yeah, when he all the
- 57:47interviews afterwards where they ask him, they're like, hey, do
- 57:49you like it's on an interview? You're like, do you miss
- 57:51anything? He's like, no, I don't miss
- 57:53anything. I don't miss playing.
- 57:55I. Mean if you're going to go out,
- 57:56literally go out. That's the way to go dude.
- 57:59Like literally leaving every I I can't, my body doesn't allow me
- 58:04to do this anymore. It's crazy.
- 58:06So what a champ man, what a horse to the end.
- 58:09Exciting for him. And then he, well, Ichiro, when
- 58:12he was with Miami, obviously being in the division up here
- 58:18with the Nats, he he made his way up here a handful of times.
- 58:22If for some reason, I feel like I would always catch them
- 58:25playing the Marlins whenever I would go around that time.
- 58:27Yeah. So I got to catch.
- 58:29I mean, I, I called him a handful of times up here and
- 58:31he'd he'd be just, just vintage Ichiro this long strides and
- 58:37yeah, lanky way. I think I I think I caught him
- 58:43getting like a stand up triple in Coors Field when he was in
- 58:46Marlin. Tracks.
- 58:48I yeah, I think I caught him doing that, which was which was
- 58:52sick. Yeah, dude, just on and he was
- 58:56like 40, like stand up triple, just gliding.
- 59:03I don't, I don't know. It's hard for me to like sit
- 59:05back and have like incredible memories about Billy Wagner.
- 59:08I know he's a stud and you know, I think there's like an era of
- 59:15relievers that were just incredible that everything's
- 59:22kind of changed around the relief game in my mind.
- 59:25So a lot of these guys are like the last of their era.
- 59:30You know, it's it's the last. I think it's the last the last
- 59:38big dominant horse lefty that's going to go out and and throw
- 59:42that many innings and have that many strikeouts and the last hit
- 59:47it wherever you want line to line.
- 59:49I'm going to beat it out no matter where I hit it kind of
- 59:52guy. And and, you know, a quirky
- 59:55angle lefty that did his thing on the bunk to close games.
- 1:00:00Yeah, I mean, you got to take an account to the game is rapidly
- 1:00:03changing. It's it's evolving.
- 1:00:05It's it's growing both in terms of the style and the, the, the,
- 1:00:12the type of player that's coming through now.
- 1:00:15So we're not done. I don't think scene the the the
- 1:00:20last of their era type guys like you.
- 1:00:22I mean, as long as Justin Verlander, for example, is still
- 1:00:26pitching in this league, you you're going to have you're
- 1:00:28going to have some guys that you're going to look at and go.
- 1:00:30Wow. I just think we're going to
- 1:00:32start creeping. We're going to start creeping
- 1:00:34into just the names. And no, for sure, I'm not
- 1:00:38disagreeing with you. I'm just saying and less
- 1:00:39numbers. You know what I mean?
- 1:00:41Like these guys are like, you can stare at the numbers and
- 1:00:43just be like, duh. And we're just eventually going
- 1:00:46to get to that point where like it's not so much about the
- 1:00:48numbers. It's like how this guy impacted
- 1:00:51the game and how long and how dominant he was.
- 1:00:54And then that I think that conversation is just going to
- 1:00:56get a little bit more difficult as we go because you can't
- 1:01:00compare what these numbers are going to look like to some of
- 1:01:04these guys like we saw get in today, so or yesterday.
- 1:01:08But any news? Good stuff, Hall of Fame.
- 1:01:12Bad stuff. One rider.
- 1:01:16Whose quote was this?
- 1:01:39Whose quote was this? Whose quote was this?
- 1:01:45Hit me, buddy. I mean, I hate to say it, but I
- 1:01:50think they fall right into line with the rest of the mainstream
- 1:01:53media out there where it's like they're going to stroke, they're
- 1:01:57going to soak the fire, They're going to get you riled up.
- 1:02:00They're going to insert their opinion where it doesn't need to
- 1:02:02be inserted. And then they're going to fall
- 1:02:04back and say, whoa, whoa, whoa, we're just reporting on the
- 1:02:08information. No, you're not.
- 1:02:11And this was in reference to the BBWA writers and the Hall of
- 1:02:16Fame. This was from episode 174 from
- 1:02:21January 28th 2021 titled The Hall of Fame is a Joke.
- 1:02:30Whose quote was this? I think this might be the first
- 1:02:33miss. I don't know.
- 1:02:35I'm going to go me first, miss.
- 1:02:51Tough. That's tough.
- 1:02:52That was me. There was not a lot of clues in
- 1:02:55that. Quote, I know I I intentionally
- 1:02:58pulled that one. I was like, you know, this, this
- 1:03:00could go either way. They really could have.
- 1:03:03It's tough. It really well, we had a, we had
- 1:03:05a good run. I think we were undefeated up
- 1:03:07until this point. So that's a good run.
- 1:03:09We need to, I think, just start making it more difficult.
- 1:03:11That was a good one. Yeah.
- 1:03:15Good take. Still holds up Aged.
- 1:03:19Aged like wine, not milk. Theme song Speaking of wine, you
- 1:03:24can get some discounted alcohol at Camden Yards moving forward
- 1:03:28because the Orioles announced today, sort of closing the book
- 1:03:32here, sort of final, final thought, the Orioles announced
- 1:03:36that they are releasing what they're calling the Birdland
- 1:03:39Value menu where they are going to have discounted concessions
- 1:03:44at Canyon Yards. We're looking at a $4.00.
- 1:03:47I mean, discounted, I use in in air quotes because I mean, as
- 1:03:51long as you can get a, a hot dog and a soda for $1.50 at Costco,
- 1:03:55I'm going to, I'm going to look at I'm not, I'm going to look at
- 1:03:57things through that lens. So you're not going to you're
- 1:04:00not, you're not tricking me Oreos, but it's still, it's
- 1:04:03still worth noting. We're looking at a $4.00 hot
- 1:04:07dog. We're looking at nachos and
- 1:04:10cheese for $4.00, peanuts for 2:50, a refillable soda for 4
- 1:04:17bucks, select beers for five, bottled water four that still
- 1:04:22seems like a crime, and seltzer's for six.
- 1:04:28So. Not really.
- 1:04:29It's not a topic that we need to spend a lot of time on.
- 1:04:32But it was announced today, and I feel like, you know, what if,
- 1:04:34if, if teams are going to start doing this if you're not
- 1:04:37charging $20.00 for a beer and you're going to make it
- 1:04:41affordable. There's something, there's
- 1:04:43something happening here. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:04:45There's something happening. Separate note, I think I saw
- 1:04:49something like the Phoenix Suns owner came out with something
- 1:04:54similar to like like 9 bucks gets you nachos and a drink and
- 1:05:00and something else. Did this start with the Falcons?
- 1:05:03Is am I? Am I remembering this correctly?
- 1:05:06I think there's different teams that are starting to recognize
- 1:05:09this that like because again, you know, if you get any ticket
- 1:05:12worth anything, 80 bucks a pop, right?
- 1:05:19I mean you're not sitting anywhere near that the 20 bucks
- 1:05:22for parking. Yeah, I mean the the classic
- 1:05:25scenario family of four if you I mean if tickets and don't forget
- 1:05:29about the fees and all this stuff like if you go to you're
- 1:05:32not. Getting out for under 300 bucks
- 1:05:34and and. It's insane.
- 1:05:36Sitting without binoculars, you know what I mean.
- 1:05:38But shout out Orioles for doing this.
- 1:05:40I grew up a member of the Dugout Club, which was huge because I
- 1:05:47remember just getting the box you got.
- 1:05:50You got Nosebleed tickets? Yeah, like a wristband.
- 1:05:54I remember I had an Orioles batting glove and it was back
- 1:05:57when it was cool that Cal Ripken only wore 1 batting gloves.
- 1:06:01I did that and I think I got like the little, the little bat.
- 1:06:08I just had a memory I forgot I had the, the, the record streak
- 1:06:15Cal Ripken bat. It was like a little, you know,
- 1:06:18miniature bat. Yeah, I know exactly. 31 and
- 1:06:21like his face on it, yeah, yeah, good stuff.
- 1:06:27But it's good, it's good, 'cause, man, this is what you
- 1:06:30got to do. By the way, have you donated to
- 1:06:32the to the Yankee Fund yet to sell that bet?
- 1:06:35I haven't forgot. I definitely missed my.
- 1:06:38I think I'd set like a soft deadline for that.
- 1:06:40I think I said when they lose the reminders or something, but
- 1:06:44the. Reminded me of that.
- 1:06:46We'll, we'll pick a, we'll pick a day to commemorate that.
- 1:06:49And I'll make my, I'll make my donation.
- 1:06:51I thought anyway, yeah, 5050 bucks.
- 1:06:53I like affordable stuff, man. I like, I like being able to
- 1:06:56just think of the common man and good on the O's.
- 1:07:02Now figure out your parking situation because that was not
- 1:07:06easy on us parking in some sketchy spot behind a mechanic
- 1:07:11shop or whatever we did. Yeah, I had to leave the game
- 1:07:14early because we didn't know if they would let us.
- 1:07:16If we we got towed, yeah, because we've.
- 1:07:18Already gotten towed. It's like a Fleetwood Mac
- 1:07:20concert or something, I think. That's what it was, yeah.
- 1:07:23Yeah. This.
- 1:07:25This isn't us being kids. This was literally like 2 what,
- 1:07:292 Octobers ago with ALDS versus the Rangers?
- 1:07:32Crazy. Anyway, that's all I got.
- 1:07:35Anyway, good stuff. And who's we're inching closer,
- 1:07:39guys, We're getting there. It's almost February before you
- 1:07:42know it. Pitchers and catchers will be
- 1:07:43reporting. I'm hoping we're going to have
- 1:07:46some signings, man. Like Bregman and Pete got to
- 1:07:49find a place. This is getting out of hand so
- 1:07:53soon we won't have to fill episodes with garbage, you know
- 1:07:57what I mean? We can start actually doing some
- 1:07:58stuff. And for those that are new, we
- 1:08:03are going to start ramping things into some fun, fun
- 1:08:07episodes. So I can't wait.
- 1:08:10It's going to be great, so buckle up.
- 1:08:12Thanks for hanging out with us. Hey, hold on pause.
- 1:08:15Just a little plug for the merch.
- 1:08:18It's been a minute since I threw it out there, but in case you
- 1:08:20missed it, I see why am I? In case you missed it, we
- 1:08:26dropped some merch. You can find it at 3.
- 1:08:30In fact, I got two of the hats right here.
- 1:08:31I know you got I know you got a couple shout out, shout out the
- 1:08:37merch, shout out the shop. Little stay filthy little three
- 1:08:40O take rope hat action. We got some other things on
- 1:08:44there. We got some jerseys on there.
- 1:08:46That's a first. We've never had jerseys.
- 1:08:50You can check out the shop. There's a beanie forgot I sent
- 1:08:52you that beanie yeah. It's pretty much snowing in all
- 1:08:57of the 50 United States at this at this point, so.
- 1:09:02Not here 60° today. I mean, that's basically snow in
- 1:09:05Arizona. So you go get it.
