- 0:06Speaker 1: August twenty eighth, twenty twenty four. By the time you
- 0:08Speaker 1: hear this, some things may have changed here there with
- 0:10Speaker 1: some of the stories, some of the interview topics, but
- 0:13Speaker 1: we hope you enjoy the show. Welcome to the Philadelphia
- 0:49Speaker 1: Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports
- 0:52Speaker 1: podcast show in the world, eleven years strong. Got a
- 0:56Speaker 1: great talk and discussion coming your way this week. We
- 0:59Speaker 1: got to get in some NFL talk right off the bat,
- 1:02Speaker 1: got some listener feedback. We're gonna be getting into and
- 1:05Speaker 1: we're gonna certainly be talking about this Eagles team now
- 1:08Speaker 1: that the roster is set, how things are looking as
- 1:10Speaker 1: we head into Week one against the Packers down in Brazil.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And then from there, we got a new top three
- 1:16Speaker 1: list Top three most annoying sports stories of twenty twenty four.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Thus far, we're gonna be getting into some Phillies talking.
- 1:23Speaker 1: What we're thrown down on the table is a great
- 1:25Speaker 1: interview with Justin Clue from Baseball Prospectus and the Hitting
- 1:29Speaker 1: Season podcasts. It's gonna join us to talk about this
- 1:31Speaker 1: Phillies team, what we've been seeing from them in the
- 1:33Speaker 1: direction they are heading in as we are heading into
- 1:36Speaker 1: September in the near future. Here, I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here,
- 1:40Speaker 1: my buddy Eric Leonard. How you doing, man?
- 1:42Speaker 2: I'm good man.
- 1:43Speaker 3: To pull the curtain back a little bit, When Eric
- 1:46Speaker 3: does the show two weeks in.
- 1:47Speaker 2: A row, that means he has their host backed out
- 1:52Speaker 2: or is on vacation or something. You know, something came up.
- 1:54Speaker 2: But this one's a little dubious.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It really is. Yeah, I shoot off my I shoot
- 1:59Speaker 1: off off my standard text, you know. I usually do
- 2:02Speaker 1: it Sunday or Monday to either you Yeah, yeah, to
- 2:06Speaker 1: either your lend. This time actually shot off the text
- 2:09Speaker 1: to Len on Sunday and said, hey, buddy, would you
- 2:12Speaker 1: be able to record the show Wednesday night. He's like,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to get back to you. So Tuesday
- 2:18Speaker 1: night rolls around, I certainly haven't heard anything from him,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and I'm like, hey, would you be good to do
- 2:23Speaker 1: the show? What do you think it? He's like, I
- 2:26Speaker 1: just got a lot going on. I'm really busy, And
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm like, what are you busy? Within you know, what
- 2:33Speaker 1: are you doing?
- 2:35Speaker 2: No.
- 2:35Speaker 3: It's funny when you know people a long time, like
- 2:37Speaker 3: I've known len for thirty some years now. Yeah, when
- 2:40Speaker 3: he's like, just say no, like seriously, dude, come on,
- 2:45Speaker 3: just be.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Like, I don't want to do the show this week.
- 2:47Speaker 1: It's fine. It's fun.
- 2:50Speaker 3: It's the same as my son, who I've known for,
- 2:51Speaker 3: you know, since he was born. Yeah, when you're like, hey,
- 2:54Speaker 3: what do you want to do? And you mentioned something
- 2:56Speaker 3: that you know he wants to do, and he'll.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Go, well, what do you want to do?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Like and his voice goes up a little bit. You're like,
- 3:04Speaker 3: that's what you want to do, just say it like
- 3:05Speaker 3: that needs hell.
- 3:07Speaker 1: No, len, if you're listening to no, he's not gonna
- 3:11Speaker 1: listen to this either. I was gonna say, Lenin if
- 3:14Speaker 1: you're listening, just say no. It's okay. It's fine, buddy.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You don't have to Eleven years doing the show is
- 3:21Speaker 1: a long time. It's a long time.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I get it.
- 3:24Speaker 3: It's look at me. I'm great, we're on camera. I
- 3:28Speaker 3: like old as hell. Partly from the show.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Oh, by geez, not the kids, not the wife, not
- 3:35Speaker 1: the job.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Again. Yeah, no, it's it's this.
- 3:41Speaker 1: It's Philly sports. That's what it is Philly sports. All right,
- 3:45Speaker 1: let's get into this show here. Got a good agenda,
- 3:48Speaker 1: Like I just said, get into some NFL talk right
- 3:51Speaker 1: off the bat. Want to thank h one of our listeners,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Bob H. He said, shut us off an email based
- 3:56Speaker 1: on a discussion Eric and I had last week about
- 4:00Speaker 1: Eric's trip to Buffalo when he was up there, really
- 4:03Speaker 1: prevalent in the fact that they have two teams. Yes,
- 4:05Speaker 1: they have two professional sports teams, but people are so
- 4:08Speaker 1: freaking proud of it. And you know, we got four
- 4:10Speaker 1: or five professional sports teams here and uh, well five
- 4:14Speaker 1: we do. We have five in Philly here. So Bob says,
- 4:19Speaker 1: when you and Eric talked about two teams versus four,
- 4:21Speaker 1: I immediately thought of an analogy. If you're born in
- 4:24Speaker 1: the US, you're probably Christian. If you're born in India
- 4:27Speaker 1: you're probably Hindu, Pakistan probably Muslim, etc. So since I'm
- 4:32Speaker 1: from here, I think he's from Philly, give me all
- 4:35Speaker 1: the teams. So so I dig where he was going
- 4:38Speaker 1: with that. Eric was that, you know what, he's from here.
- 4:40Speaker 1: He loves he loves he loves all the Philly sports teams.
- 4:43Speaker 3: You know.
- 4:43Speaker 1: It's kind of like and I like the religious analogy there.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You know, it's kind of like a religion for him
- 4:48Speaker 1: as well.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a religion up there for Buffalonians. Yeah, yeah
- 4:54Speaker 2: as well.
- 4:55Speaker 3: And you know, but Bob smarter than you and I
- 4:58Speaker 3: obviously obviously because we both, let's admit it, we had
- 5:02Speaker 3: a conversation before the show.
- 5:04Speaker 2: What is Bob trying to say?
- 5:05Speaker 1: Because we're not sure? Sure, but but I think we
- 5:09Speaker 1: got it.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I think I think we did too. But it took
- 5:12Speaker 2: a discussion for you know. He wrote a quick email
- 5:15Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, I'm done with that topic, and
- 5:16Speaker 2: you and I are.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Like, I'm like the like that, I'm like the kid
- 5:23Speaker 1: in blood Sport. What kind of.
- 5:27Speaker 2: One of my favorite impressions you do?
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, I agree with Bob, like you you just
- 5:32Speaker 3: you know what you know, you know, like if you're
- 5:35Speaker 3: born in Buffalo, just born and raised to stay there,
- 5:37Speaker 3: your parents cheered for the early nineties teams, and uh,
- 5:40Speaker 3: it is a religion up there. I mean both cities.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I thought about this after our conversation last week. Both
- 5:46Speaker 3: cities actually have a major motion picture made about like
- 5:50Speaker 3: the fandom kind of oh yeah, Silver Linings playbook for
- 5:55Speaker 3: Philadelphia and then Buffalo sixty six. If you ever saw
- 5:57Speaker 3: that movie for for the Bills a little or that
- 6:00Speaker 3: means a little darker, I would say.
- 6:02Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 6:04Speaker 3: But that actually kind of ties into losing four straight
- 6:07Speaker 3: Super Bowls, which has to be the most hard break.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We lost three straight NFC Championship games, and.
- 6:12Speaker 3: I was there for those in phillyate My god, the
- 6:14Speaker 3: city was the saddest thing I've ever seen.
- 6:16Speaker 2: After each loss, I can't imagine.
- 6:19Speaker 3: The need to reach for faith. Yes, and you lose
- 6:25Speaker 3: four straight Super Bowls the way that Bills did, So
- 6:27Speaker 3: I actually love the analogy, but it took Jeff and.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I a while, Bob, because we're kind of stupid.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yes, very stupid, very stupid. Well, we're going to move
- 6:35Speaker 1: along here and get into another NFL storyline, and this
- 6:39Speaker 1: particular storyline really, you know, as I was going through
- 6:42Speaker 1: the schedule of various games, of course it's going to
- 6:45Speaker 1: be a lot more games on Peacock and you know
- 6:49Speaker 1: we've got Amazon, of course that's still going to be
- 6:51Speaker 1: broadcasting Thursday night games. The NFL really is we've kind
- 6:56Speaker 1: of discussed here on this podcast platform in the hass
- 7:00Speaker 1: just pricing out its average viewer. As we know in
- 7:05Speaker 1: terms of tickets for games, it is so expensive to
- 7:07Speaker 1: go to a game in the NFL. It's expensive to
- 7:10Speaker 1: go to just about any professional sports game with a
- 7:12Speaker 1: team that is doing well, and quite frankly, in the
- 7:15Speaker 1: city of Philadelphia, over the course of the past five years, Eric,
- 7:18Speaker 1: all of our sports teams have generally done very well
- 7:22Speaker 1: for themselves. They are relevant within their professional sports associations,
- 7:27Speaker 1: leagues and organizations. And because of that, there's a lot
- 7:31Speaker 1: of Philly sports fans that just don't get a chance
- 7:33Speaker 1: to go to an Eagles game, of Phillies game, Sixers game. Well,
- 7:37Speaker 1: they can probably go to the Flyers games and even
- 7:39Speaker 1: the Union's games, but still now we're getting to the
- 7:43Speaker 1: point where I do wonder if the NFL is going
- 7:47Speaker 1: to start pricing out the average fan from NFL Christmas
- 7:52Speaker 1: games that are on TV or on our screens in
- 7:56Speaker 1: our home, because the NFL games this year are going
- 7:59Speaker 1: to be broad asked on Netflix, so you're gonna have
- 8:02Speaker 1: to have a Netflix subscription in order to watch these
- 8:06Speaker 1: games on Christmas Day that we've all been watching on
- 8:08Speaker 1: networks for years and years. So I really do wonder
- 8:12Speaker 1: how much of a problem streaming NFL games is going
- 8:16Speaker 1: to be in the future for the average fan, and
- 8:18Speaker 1: how how we're gonna deal with it as fans, and
- 8:22Speaker 1: how the league is then going to reciprocate or if
- 8:26Speaker 1: they even do in terms of listening to the fans
- 8:29Speaker 1: and what we want, or are we just going to
- 8:31Speaker 1: cater to what the NFL wants and just you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: get the Peacocks subscriptions, the Netflix subscriptions. I mean, it's
- 8:38Speaker 1: ridiculous the subscriptions my family has at this point. In fact,
- 8:41Speaker 1: my wife and I were recently talking Eric about like, like,
- 8:43Speaker 1: my gosh, it's like we hardly watch some of these things,
- 8:46Speaker 1: like why do we have these subscriptions to these streaming platforms.
- 8:49Speaker 1: But I don't know. I think the NFL is now
- 8:52Speaker 1: getting to the point where it's not just about tickets
- 8:54Speaker 1: and pricing out the average fan. It's it's actually going
- 8:57Speaker 1: to be streaming in pricing out the average fan too.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I don't know, what are you thinking here.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I thought about this one a bunch because the NBA
- 9:05Speaker 3: has kind of been doing the same thing slowly, and
- 9:08Speaker 3: I'm such a fan. I just get the NBA package
- 9:11Speaker 3: and I'm just done with it. I wonder if eventually
- 9:15Speaker 3: the NFL would kind of do the same thing, just
- 9:17Speaker 3: be like but but I can't imagine that's going to
- 9:21Speaker 3: happen because they it's weird how they didn't go like
- 9:24Speaker 3: in that direction just a singular NFL network. I know
- 9:27Speaker 3: there's a NFL network, but like I'm talking like the
- 9:29Speaker 3: NBA package where every single the season pass thing.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Why the NFL didn't go that route.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I think why they didn't do that basically is because
- 9:38Speaker 3: they don't know where this is going either. So I
- 9:40Speaker 3: think they kind of put their finger what's the term,
- 9:43Speaker 3: like fingers in all the different pies just in case,
- 9:47Speaker 3: like with Amazon, Peacock, Netflix, I say Amazon, right, So like.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Who's the Netflix CEO?
- 9:58Speaker 1: Ted?
- 9:58Speaker 3: I think is whatever his name is? Like they're trying
- 10:01Speaker 3: to I think they're trying to like like try to
- 10:03Speaker 3: like stay like please the billionaires, right, yea, they don't
- 10:07Speaker 3: have it. I'm sometimes they don't have a game on
- 10:09Speaker 3: Twitter coming up soon, yeah, just to stay in line
- 10:13Speaker 3: with like an Elon Musk or something. But I did,
- 10:17Speaker 3: and of course me, I'm like, oh the little guy.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I always want to look out for the little guy.
- 10:20Speaker 3: But man, people who love the NFL, they're they're not
- 10:25Speaker 3: going to get priced out for this stuff, like Netflix
- 10:27Speaker 3: is what twenty bucks a month? I think, Yeah, I
- 10:30Speaker 3: don't think it's going to be the biggest problem. I
- 10:32Speaker 3: think it's I think they're kind of in a in
- 10:34Speaker 3: a quagmire middle ground or like Middle Earth kind of
- 10:38Speaker 3: situation here. I think eventually they're going to figure out
- 10:40Speaker 3: what they want to do, But right now, I think
- 10:42Speaker 3: they're just going like, let's just throw it everywhere, see
- 10:45Speaker 3: what works best, and then we'll kind of land where
- 10:48Speaker 3: we're eventually going to land, probably in the next couple
- 10:50Speaker 3: of years, is kind of my take.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I see where you're going with it. I also
- 10:53Speaker 1: see these streaming platforms, as we know, they're continuing to
- 10:56Speaker 1: raise their prices too. I mean, when when we first
- 10:59Speaker 1: got Netflix and we start streaming Netflix on our televisions
- 11:03Speaker 1: and not just remember just getting the DVDs and stuff
- 11:07Speaker 1: like that back in the day, but when you can
- 11:09Speaker 1: actually start streaming, it was like seven ninety nine, and like, yes,
- 11:13Speaker 1: I know, I know, costs go up, folks, I get that.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I understand that very well. But I do wonder if
- 11:18Speaker 1: it'll get to the point where it's like, oh, wow,
- 11:19Speaker 1: we got to pay thirty bucks now for Netflix might
- 11:23Speaker 1: be in another six, eight, ten years from now, but
- 11:26Speaker 1: we got to pay that much money for it, I'm
- 11:28Speaker 1: gonna be missing some NFL games, you know, possibly if
- 11:32Speaker 1: it's that much. I don't know.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Well, but that's the thing. Like the people who love
- 11:37Speaker 2: the NFL, like.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You, Yeah, you're.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Going to pay and figure it out, right.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I think that's like you're huge, you love Fantasy, you
- 11:44Speaker 3: probably love the red zone. Like a lot of fans
- 11:46Speaker 3: who like who like Fantasy.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I've actually never gotten the red zone. I've actually never
- 11:50Speaker 1: paid for it, amazingly enough.
- 11:53Speaker 3: But I just think people who love it are going
- 11:55Speaker 3: to are gonna like seek it out and pay for it.
- 11:57Speaker 3: It's not super expensive. And if you're that big of
- 11:59Speaker 3: a fan, that's the thing. Like I'm not the biggest fan,
- 12:03Speaker 3: So if I miss a Jacksonville Chargers game, yeah I
- 12:08Speaker 3: don't give a shit. Not the biggest deal, right, But
- 12:11Speaker 3: it is kind of annoying though. Like I'll say this,
- 12:13Speaker 3: like I have Hulu, and every now and again, like
- 12:16Speaker 3: a game will come up on the thing and the
- 12:17Speaker 3: menu it's like, oh, Minnesota and Chicago preseason game whatever, Like, oh,
- 12:21Speaker 3: let me flip it on. Oh I can't watch it
- 12:24Speaker 3: all right, a little annoying. I'll move on to something else,
- 12:26Speaker 3: But like I do miss those days probably of like well,
- 12:29Speaker 3: I can just flip anything on, I'll just I'll just
- 12:31Speaker 3: watch it. I one thing I you know, as an
- 12:35Speaker 3: NBA fan, I have to bring this up right now.
- 12:37Speaker 3: You talked about Christmas Day Netflix. That is the NBA's day.
- 12:41Speaker 3: God damn it it is. Yeah, I'm not going to
- 12:44Speaker 3: watch a single down of football. You sons of bitches
- 12:46Speaker 3: like that.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Don't try and step on my turf. Yes, be a turf.
- 12:52Speaker 2: It really annoys me, especially.
- 12:54Speaker 1: When the Sixers are on, because the Sixers were on
- 12:56Speaker 1: last Christmas.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah, They're always on Christmas because people love to cheer
- 13:00Speaker 3: embad or boo embid like it's a perfect He's the
- 13:03Speaker 3: perfect Christmas guy. Yeah, but I did have this thought too,
- 13:08Speaker 3: like thankfully I was thinking of my I was thinking
- 13:11Speaker 3: of my dad, right, who God forbid him trying to
- 13:14Speaker 3: figure out where the hell Netflix is to.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Watch a football game like yeah, thankfully with.
- 13:18Speaker 3: The kneeling and the kneeling and the flag bullshit that
- 13:21Speaker 3: happened a couple of years ago. The people who would
- 13:23Speaker 3: have had issues finding the games, like my dad, have
- 13:26Speaker 3: already checked out because of politics, so I don't have
- 13:29Speaker 3: to deal with We're the Eagles are the Netflix, like
- 13:33Speaker 3: I don't like I had that conversation. I get that
- 13:36Speaker 3: phone callar text because I'm not driving my parents' house
- 13:39Speaker 3: to go This is how you do it right.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Now, I'm done right Interestingly enough, I get a text
- 13:45Speaker 1: from my mom. I love how I get a text
- 13:46Speaker 1: from my mom today saying my WiFi is not working
- 13:50Speaker 1: on my iPad. What's my password? I don't know, the
- 13:56Speaker 1: most basic simple thing. What's my assword? I don't know?
- 14:02Speaker 1: Did you ever write it down? Am I supposed to
- 14:04Speaker 1: know what your router's password is? Well?
- 14:08Speaker 2: Did just tell her to? Uh?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Tell her to go online and find the Nigerian Prince. Yes,
- 14:14Speaker 3: talker through the talker through the process.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Give your credit card number. In fact, you give three
- 14:19Speaker 1: credit card numbers. Max it out for the Nigerian Prince.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yes, oh god?
- 14:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Well, with regard to you know, the Eagles in this
- 14:30Speaker 1: NFL season coming up here, the roster is set now
- 14:34Speaker 1: for this Eagles team here and uh, I'm wondering if
- 14:38Speaker 1: you know we were surprised by any of the guys
- 14:40Speaker 1: that were kept any of the guys that were actually
- 14:42Speaker 1: cut and just what the start of the season is
- 14:45Speaker 1: gonna look like. They got the Green Bay Packers Week
- 14:47Speaker 1: one in Brazil here, and I don't know if you
- 14:51Speaker 1: want to I don't know if you want to start here, buddy,
- 14:52Speaker 1: because I wanted to get into one particular aspect of
- 14:57Speaker 1: this team. But I'm gonna let you go first here. Okay,
- 15:03Speaker 1: is there any specific thing from you know, this preseason
- 15:06Speaker 1: as we're looking a week one that you're really going
- 15:07Speaker 1: to be honing in on.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I think some of the some of the things we
- 15:11Speaker 3: talked about last week, we talked about the Eagles roster
- 15:14Speaker 3: and some concerns we had, we had like levels of concern. Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 3: looking at the offensive line depth here, that's a concern.
- 15:22Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie the Kai Becton, you know, being
- 15:26Speaker 3: the backup, the second guard on this list. I I
- 15:31Speaker 3: don't trust that guy one bit. And that's that is scary.
- 15:34Speaker 3: I know we have two awesome tackles, We've got my
- 15:36Speaker 3: lot in Johnson, but but they have Dickerson there, which
- 15:40Speaker 3: is great, and then basically a rookie center with a
- 15:44Speaker 3: with an oft injured the Kai Becton. That that that's
- 15:48Speaker 3: one my concerns. We're actually raised now that I see
- 15:52Speaker 3: the roster in print, like that, that is a little scary.
- 15:55Speaker 3: They are absolutely thin as hell at edge rusher Ive
- 16:00Speaker 3: Josh Sweat, Brandon Graam, Millan Smithing, Brandon Graham's like our age, right, yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 3: like that is like that's another position. I'm like, man,
- 16:06Speaker 3: that that's a little scart Like both lines are a
- 16:12Speaker 3: little flimsy in my opinion.
- 16:14Speaker 2: That's that's like.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I love the skill position players. The running I mean,
- 16:18Speaker 3: the running back crew is awesome. The receiver with Johan
- 16:21Speaker 3: Dotson on there, yeah, it looks better. The receiving crew
- 16:24Speaker 3: of the quarterback is hurts, God forbid, he goes down.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Can you pick it? Good? Lord?
- 16:29Speaker 3: But the rest of the team looks good, you know
- 16:31Speaker 3: it's it's honestly, the two lines that are most concerning.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I'd say, you know what, and what you just said
- 16:37Speaker 1: goes into what my concern or I should say what
- 16:42Speaker 1: my biggest question is really heading into Week one here
- 16:45Speaker 1: is have Kellen Moore as the new offensive coordinator and
- 16:49Speaker 1: Nick Siriana have have they put the work in with
- 16:53Speaker 1: this offensive line and even with the running backs as
- 16:56Speaker 1: well to address what we saw last year. Was Nick
- 16:59Speaker 1: sirianno vulnerability against the blitz or you know, whether it
- 17:03Speaker 1: was a full blitz or whether the defense is showing
- 17:06Speaker 1: blitz and then kind of backing out because it was
- 17:08Speaker 1: obvious to everybody that Nick Sirianni really put his own
- 17:11Speaker 1: scheme above results by not developing a response to what
- 17:16Speaker 1: teams did to Jalen Hurts, and especially in the back
- 17:20Speaker 1: half of last year. I mean last year, Jalen Hurts
- 17:24Speaker 1: was blitzed very frequently on thirty eight point seven percent
- 17:29Speaker 1: of his dropbacks and according to Pro Football Focus that
- 17:32Speaker 1: ranked second in the NFL amongst quarterbacks had at least
- 17:35Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty four dropbacks. Jalen Hurts was getting
- 17:38Speaker 1: the shit kicked out of him last year because of
- 17:40Speaker 1: the blitz. And I hope where this offensive line is
- 17:44Speaker 1: and with running back room is understanding where the blitz
- 17:46Speaker 1: going to be coming from, because it worked the last
- 17:49Speaker 1: half of last season. It worked to I want to
- 17:53Speaker 1: say Jalen Hurts was rattled, but play is just breaking down.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Nick Sirianni's scheme breaking down again. My question is, has
- 18:03Speaker 1: Kellen Moore and Nick Sirianni put that vulnerability really to
- 18:07Speaker 1: the test and are they going to be able to
- 18:10Speaker 1: negate that right out of the gate this season, because
- 18:13Speaker 1: that's it's it's huge. It's gonna be huge in terms
- 18:15Speaker 1: of this offensive or offensive productivity.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And here's the problem, we have no idea.
- 18:21Speaker 3: They didn't plan the preseason, Like we didn't get to
- 18:23Speaker 3: see any of what this actually is going to look like.
- 18:27Speaker 3: That's that that bothers me. We're another year into the
- 18:31Speaker 3: rest of the league kind of figuring out what the
- 18:33Speaker 3: Eagles did, Like you saw it last season, like the
- 18:36Speaker 3: first what eight nine games, are the best team in
- 18:38Speaker 3: the league and then it just flipped And I honestly
- 18:41Speaker 3: think it was.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Like, well they do the r po. They do that,
- 18:44Speaker 2: like like we figured them out pretty fast and Nick
- 18:46Speaker 2: Firehanni was not didn't make any adjustments whatsoever. I'm hoping
- 18:52Speaker 2: Kellen Moore can can kind of do that.
- 18:54Speaker 3: The same thing kind of happened with the Dolphins, you know,
- 18:57Speaker 3: the same thing, like they kind of had a similar
- 18:59Speaker 3: offense and they kind of they kind of fell apart
- 19:02Speaker 3: down the stretch and got blown out in the playoffs.
- 19:05Speaker 3: They didn't have Tyreek Hill. I think that team just
- 19:07Speaker 3: doesn't even make the playoffs. So I'm hoping that those
- 19:11Speaker 3: adjustments do occur. It just kind of it drives me
- 19:16Speaker 3: nuts that he didn't play. None of these guys played
- 19:19Speaker 3: one down in the press, like I said last week,
- 19:23Speaker 3: Pat Mahomes played, Lamar Jackson played like come on, like
- 19:26Speaker 3: what Jalen Hurts does not have three rings? Like I
- 19:29Speaker 3: don't understand why he gets this grace or why Sirianni
- 19:33Speaker 3: doesn't like push these guys.
- 19:34Speaker 2: But I don't know. And I hate I'll say this
- 19:38Speaker 2: right now. I hate the fact that we start in
- 19:40Speaker 2: Brazil against the Packers.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It sucks.
- 19:43Speaker 2: What what are we doing? It sucks.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It sucks. Honestly, fuck the NFL for that one. It sucks.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I Friday night, a Friday night, no home, no home
- 19:55Speaker 3: field for either team, Like it's it doesn't make any sense,
- 20:00Speaker 3: and like it, I get it.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Like you're trying to make this wor global. Guess what.
- 20:04Speaker 2: It's just like soccer here. It's big, but it's not.
- 20:07Speaker 2: It's never gonna quite happen.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Yeah, neither's the NFL in Brazil or London or if
- 20:12Speaker 3: hell else you're playing games, it's never gonna happen.
- 20:14Speaker 1: I hate it, Yeah, exactly exactly. Look the other the
- 20:18Speaker 1: other question I think coming into this season that I
- 20:20Speaker 1: have too is where this Eagles defense ends up landing.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Because last year, just in terms of sacks, the Eagles
- 20:28Speaker 1: were twenty fourth in sac rate. Last year the Dolphins
- 20:31Speaker 1: under Dick Fangio, they were second. However, with regard to Fangio,
- 20:37Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one, he was eighteenth. His defense was
- 20:40Speaker 1: eighteenth in sac rate. In twenty twenty they were tenth.
- 20:43Speaker 1: In twenty nineteen they were fourteenth. Got a little bit
- 20:46Speaker 1: of a middle of the road there from twenty nineteen
- 20:49Speaker 1: to twenty twenty one in Dick Fangio's scheme in terms
- 20:52Speaker 1: of the sack rate, I want to see more sacks.
- 20:54Speaker 1: There's no Hassan Reddick, as we were talking about last week,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and the fact that of the is that you're gonna
- 21:01Speaker 1: need to have guys like Bryce Huff really stepping up.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Josh Sweat he is going to have to step up.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I mean, can Josh Sweat be a three down player?
- 21:10Speaker 1: I mean, he had a disappointing season last year in
- 21:13Speaker 1: my opinion, and also had one of his highest workload
- 21:16Speaker 1: seasons at seventy one percent of the snap So I'm
- 21:20Speaker 1: a little uh, I'm a little skeptical about where Vic
- 21:22Speaker 1: Fangio's defense is actually gonna go. There's a lot of
- 21:25Speaker 1: talent there on the defense, but can it all come
- 21:28Speaker 1: together and in one nice uh, you know, one nice puzzle.
- 21:32Speaker 1: That's again another question I have here.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Eric, I had the same question, you know, like we
- 21:39Speaker 3: have an it's like you have an adult in the
- 21:42Speaker 3: building now. Yeah, Like Tanjo comes in, he's a name,
- 21:45Speaker 3: and you feel it makes you feel good, right, yeah,
- 21:48Speaker 3: But then you start to dig into like his his record,
- 21:51Speaker 3: his past record, and you're just like, hmm, a little shaky,
- 21:56Speaker 3: a little shaky, Yeah, like you just kind of forget
- 22:00Speaker 3: which you had prior because you have like a like
- 22:02Speaker 3: I said, a grown up in the building. But then
- 22:04Speaker 3: like as you start to dig, you're like, oh my gosh,
- 22:06Speaker 3: I don't We're really small defensive even made a great point,
- 22:11Speaker 3: Josh Sweat. Has he been a three down defensive end
- 22:14Speaker 3: his entire crew? No, Yeah, the lie backing crew is
- 22:17Speaker 3: thin as always secondary young. We'll see what happens, and
- 22:23Speaker 3: I'm hoping, like like you said, Vic Fangiel was the
- 22:25Speaker 3: defensive coordner for the Dolphins last year and kind of
- 22:29Speaker 3: got routed a couple of times.
- 22:31Speaker 2: The end of the season. So again it's it's nice
- 22:34Speaker 2: to not have the idiot we had last year. But like,
- 22:36Speaker 2: at the same.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Time, look, I look at the cuts, I look at
- 22:40Speaker 3: the roster here, and I also read, like I said
- 22:42Speaker 3: last week, the Fangio's comments.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Where he's just like, we're figuring it out.
- 22:46Speaker 3: It's like, Okay, well, you got a couple, you know,
- 22:50Speaker 3: you have a couple ten days to Brazil, and then
- 22:53Speaker 3: you dude, exactly.
- 22:55Speaker 1: You gotta fly down to Brazil get this thing figured
- 22:57Speaker 1: out here. Let's go. Man. Well, well it's gonna be
- 23:01Speaker 1: an interesting start to the season. We have our Eagles

- 24:04Speaker 1: All right, we are back, and we've got a brand
- 24:07Speaker 1: new top three list coming to you. I have been
- 24:10Speaker 1: extremely annoyed at certain sports stories, Eric, over the course
- 24:13Speaker 1: of not just the past few weeks, but man, these
- 24:16Speaker 1: past few months here in twenty twenty four. A lot
- 24:19Speaker 1: of annoying sports stories that have been just coming through
- 24:23Speaker 1: our social media feeds, some articles that we've been reading
- 24:27Speaker 1: on various sites as well, and just an overall tone
- 24:31Speaker 1: to twenty twenty four in terms of the sports world.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Lots of annoying stories here. So let's get into our
- 24:37Speaker 1: top three list. I'm gonna let you go first, buddy
- 24:40Speaker 1: number three for you, I mean, and do you have
- 24:41Speaker 1: these in order as three? Two, one? You do?
- 24:44Speaker 2: Okay?
- 24:45Speaker 1: What's your number three?
- 24:47Speaker 2: My number three is the Otani gambling story.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Oh nice?
- 24:52Speaker 3: And honestly, the story itself is annoying. What made it
- 24:57Speaker 3: annoying is that it wasn't a bigger story. Honest Yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 3: because baseball is so unpopular right now, just just nationwide
- 25:05Speaker 3: media wise, and this will tie into my first one,
- 25:08Speaker 3: my number one story. And but like when it first
- 25:12Speaker 3: came out, man, it was like it felt so juicy.
- 25:15Speaker 3: It was like, this dude has been gambling. He lost
- 25:19Speaker 3: hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Hundreds of millions, yes, which at first, like this is insane,
- 25:25Speaker 2: what kind of like how do you lose as much money?
- 25:28Speaker 2: But then it starts to come up, and then it
- 25:30Speaker 2: starts to get picked.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Apart and pulled, and and then just find out it's
- 25:34Speaker 3: just him and he has a buddy, you know, he's
- 25:37Speaker 3: in America and this guy's like his right hand man.
- 25:39Speaker 3: The guy just like just stole his money basically taking
- 25:44Speaker 3: sane bets. And I, like I said, I was more
- 25:47Speaker 3: like annoyed that it just wasn't a bigger story.
- 25:49Speaker 2: At first, I'm like, because baseball hasn't had a huge
- 25:52Speaker 2: scandal story in a long time, and unfortunately that like
- 25:56Speaker 2: makes baseball more popular, whether we're like not.
- 25:59Speaker 3: But yeah, it was just him trusting his buddy who
- 26:01Speaker 3: really fucked him over badly and just stole all his money.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And hundreds of millions of dollars.
- 26:06Speaker 3: That's InCred He came out of here like unscathed. It
- 26:08Speaker 3: was just like, yeah, and then has an awesome season.
- 26:10Speaker 3: He's hits home runs all the time. He's just a beast.
- 26:13Speaker 3: But like I was hoping it was gonna be a
- 26:15Speaker 3: little little juice here, but just was.
- 26:18Speaker 1: The last big scandal obviously in Major League Baseball was
- 26:21Speaker 1: the Astros and the cheating scandal, and we didn't get
- 26:23Speaker 1: much out of that either because of COVID and because
- 26:25Speaker 1: they weren't playing really that in twenty twenty. So that
- 26:29Speaker 1: was the last big scandal that again didn't get the
- 26:32Speaker 1: attention it should have.
- 26:34Speaker 3: And before that, it was like it was the steroid thing. Yeah,
- 26:36Speaker 3: Bonds and and that that was huge, right, and people
- 26:39Speaker 3: like actually paid attention to baseball, not for the right reasons,
- 26:42Speaker 3: but at least like gave a shit. But yeah, tawny thing. Really,
- 26:47Speaker 3: I didn't want him to come out of it poorly, honestly,
- 26:52Speaker 3: but I was hoping they'd be more dirt, more kind
- 26:54Speaker 3: of like really like grimy kind of shit, like yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 3: acquire stuff. But now it was just uh be like hey, dude,
- 27:01Speaker 3: here's my credit card.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Good luck. That's all it was.
- 27:05Speaker 3: It was like, oh man, this sucks, like but I'm
- 27:08Speaker 3: hoping he learned something from that, Like could you imagine
- 27:11Speaker 3: like you or me or Len, like I just I
- 27:15Speaker 3: just got to hold your finances and like I'm gonna
- 27:17Speaker 3: make crazy as bets on FanDuel exactly.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Make you homeless, you know, like just but no, it
- 27:25Speaker 2: was just a yeah, you know, that was it. That
- 27:27Speaker 2: was a story like his buddy screwed him.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Eric, I'm gonna make a two hundred and fifty thousand
- 27:31Speaker 1: dollars bet tonight on the Marlins beaten the Dodgers.
- 27:37Speaker 3: The amount of bets you'd have to make to lose
- 27:40Speaker 3: that much money, you'd have to be like it would
- 27:42Speaker 3: be a full time job, just on your phone all
- 27:44Speaker 3: day long, Okay, four thousand dollars on bers.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Like yes, gosh, I like that one. I like that
- 27:50Speaker 1: one a lot. My number three goes to something I
- 27:54Speaker 1: am I shouldn't say, just me. We all are tired
- 27:57Speaker 1: of Pat Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes. The season hasn't even started yet,
- 28:03Speaker 1: and we are fucking tired of this guy. He throws
- 28:06Speaker 1: a behind the back pass in a fucking preseason game
- 28:09Speaker 1: and it was like it was it was like the
- 28:12Speaker 1: savior came down and was behind an offensive line through
- 28:18Speaker 1: that passpout right behind his back. And you know what,
- 28:21Speaker 1: it wasn't a route that Travis Kelsey should have ran.
- 28:25Speaker 1: It was I don't know, if you dove into the
- 28:26Speaker 1: story a little bit, he ran the wrong route and
- 28:29Speaker 1: that's why he had to pass behind the back and
- 28:31Speaker 1: something he just had to improvise there right off the back.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Pat Mahomes is trying to deflect the pass behind the
- 28:38Speaker 1: back while actually enhancing the story itself, and it's so
- 28:44Speaker 1: it was so fucking annoying to me. I was like,
- 28:46Speaker 1: this fucking guy just gets lucky. He's good, he's good,
- 28:51Speaker 1: don't get me wrong, he's good. He is a very
- 28:52Speaker 1: good quarterback, one of the best in the league. But
- 28:55Speaker 1: there are times when this fucking guy gets lucky. That
- 28:58Speaker 1: was one of those times. And for people to constantly
- 29:01Speaker 1: just be like fondling him. It drives me crazy. It's
- 29:06Speaker 1: so annoying.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Okay, let's face it. He's entering the Tom Brady you know.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Territory here, yes, yeah, where people just hate him because
- 29:16Speaker 3: he wins.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yep, and he's cocky. It really is cocky and arrogant.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Which you candy, You're going for a fourth Super Bowl
- 29:26Speaker 3: ring here, Like he's allowed to be that. But I
- 29:29Speaker 3: get it, Like he's still annoying Tom Brady, Like dude
- 29:34Speaker 3: was balding and then all of a sudden came back
- 29:37Speaker 3: with hair. He terioki sauce his hair too. He's married
- 29:41Speaker 3: to the most beautiful woman in the world. Like I
- 29:44Speaker 3: don't care who you are as.
- 29:45Speaker 2: A part of you, Like, just fuck this guy, man,
- 29:47Speaker 2: come on.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Yeah, every super Bowl twenty eight to three of the
- 29:50Speaker 3: Falcons Holmes is approaching that that territory and it's it
- 29:56Speaker 3: sucks right like like it does.
- 29:58Speaker 2: But he's the classic Like if he.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Is our quarterback, you would you would punch one of
- 30:03Speaker 3: the face of the insulted as right, yes, yes, yes.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Yes, I'd love to throw my dirty underwear in his face.
- 30:08Speaker 2: All right.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I don't know why, I don't know what's your number two?
- 30:16Speaker 3: This one's a little more serious, but not quite Okay,
- 30:19Speaker 3: I don't take this ship too seriously, but just the
- 30:22Speaker 3: US parts of the US is uh political politicization, political politicalization?
- 30:29Speaker 1: Right, politicization? Yeah?
- 30:30Speaker 3: Yeah, of the Olympics, I couldn't handle it. People literally
- 30:37Speaker 3: just not understanding world history. And then subsequently, you know,
- 30:41Speaker 3: elements of the opening ceremonies. I just like, I know
- 30:47Speaker 3: again it's people are stupid in this country, right.
- 30:50Speaker 2: We talked about it.
- 30:51Speaker 3: I've talked many times with you personally and on the show.
- 30:54Speaker 3: I used to mess with people online. Can't do it
- 30:57Speaker 3: anymore because they're so fucking stupid.
- 30:59Speaker 2: It's it's it sucks. It's one of the downsides of
- 31:02Speaker 2: this whole thing. But I still love doing it right. Yes,
- 31:04Speaker 2: And just like United States citizens saying they won't they
- 31:10Speaker 2: won't not only will they not watch the Olympics, but
- 31:12Speaker 2: they're not even going to cheer for the United States
- 31:14Speaker 2: because the Olympics have become satanic or some shit. It's like,
- 31:18Speaker 2: it's so bizarre to me, Like you won't even cheer
- 31:20Speaker 2: for your own countrymen, Yes, you claim to be an American,
- 31:24Speaker 2: but by the way.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Had nothing to do with the actual opening ceremonies at all.
- 31:27Speaker 1: They're there to perform, they have been training for four
- 31:30Speaker 1: years now.
- 31:31Speaker 3: It was just a green minder of how stupid people
- 31:33Speaker 3: have become this country. And I was just horrified with
- 31:35Speaker 3: the whole thing and very annoyed at the same time.
- 31:38Speaker 1: It's so annoying, it really is. You look at what
- 31:41Speaker 1: these athletes have done, the storylines that we saw throughout
- 31:44Speaker 1: the Olympics. We talked about a lot of them here
- 31:46Speaker 1: on the show over the course of you know, when
- 31:49Speaker 1: the Olympics were happening in France. So yeah, I absolutely
- 31:53Speaker 1: agree with you on that. My gosh, yes, it's very,
- 31:55Speaker 1: very annoying. For my number two, Eric is going to
- 31:59Speaker 1: go to something that I've seen more and more this year,
- 32:02Speaker 1: and I don't know if it's certain Twitter accounts. I
- 32:05Speaker 1: don't know if it's certain, I don't know if it's
- 32:10Speaker 1: just I think it would be just either Twitter accounts
- 32:13Speaker 1: or I'm just seeing it more and more people saying
- 32:16Speaker 1: that guys that played like if a guy played in
- 32:20Speaker 1: any sport in the seventies or eighties, they couldn't cut
- 32:23Speaker 1: it today. You know the superstars from back then, Boy,
- 32:28Speaker 1: if they played today in the twenty twenties, they couldn't
- 32:31Speaker 1: cut it. You know, it's not like players from back
- 32:34Speaker 1: then wouldn't have all the advantages that players now have.
- 32:39Speaker 1: A skill set is a skill set, and Will Chamberlain
- 32:44Speaker 1: could obviously do what he was doing back then and
- 32:50Speaker 1: do it today as well. There's a narrative going on
- 32:53Speaker 1: within the sports world, and maybe it's certain segments of
- 32:55Speaker 1: the sports world where people are saying, yeah, guys that
- 32:57Speaker 1: played these sports in the styes and eighties, they just
- 33:01Speaker 1: couldn't cut it today. And I'm getting really annoyed with
- 33:04Speaker 1: that because it's a lack of as somebody who enjoys history,
- 33:08Speaker 1: it's a lack of understanding history. It's a lack of
- 33:10Speaker 1: common sense as well, and it's a it's a sports story.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I'm really annoyed with her, And it's more a reflection
- 33:17Speaker 1: of like your last thing you were just talking about
- 33:21Speaker 1: with the idiots, just idiots online, and maybe that's what
- 33:23Speaker 1: it is, just sports idiots online who have these opinions
- 33:28Speaker 1: that are just not well thought out. They're just stupid.
- 33:31Speaker 1: They're assholes.
- 33:33Speaker 2: You know, back in the day, you go to a
- 33:34Speaker 2: sports bar watch a game, and you didn't the guy
- 33:39Speaker 2: next to you.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Could be complete fucking more on but you didn't know that,
- 33:43Speaker 3: right right, He's just cheering for whatever's on the screen.
- 33:47Speaker 2: But now he has a phone and he can go
- 33:49Speaker 2: and like you're like, oh, you're a complete assholen't know.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I didn't have to know that twenty years ago, but
- 33:54Speaker 3: now I do because you have a platform and you shouldn't.
- 33:57Speaker 3: But whatever, I can speak to the NBA. There's like
- 34:01Speaker 3: a young sect of NBA fans now, yeah, who were.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Like Michael Jordan could not playing today's.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Game, and you're just like, dude, you you're obviously not
- 34:11Speaker 3: an NBA fan or a basketball fan or of any
- 34:13Speaker 3: knowledge of basketball because the guy obviously could have. If
- 34:18Speaker 3: you know, if Wilt Chamberlain could fly first class, you know,
- 34:23Speaker 3: and have personal trainers and chefs and everything like that happen,
- 34:27Speaker 3: Lebron has right now probably could score forty thousand points today,
- 34:31Speaker 3: right just right, Like, but but that that takes critical
- 34:35Speaker 3: thinking and like thinking forward. Yeah, and that's not what
- 34:37Speaker 3: people do today. They just put their stupid opinions on Twitter,
- 34:41Speaker 3: and we have to and we sift through that bullshit
- 34:43Speaker 3: and but it's it's.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Good fodder for the show. Let's say that, right, Yeah.
- 34:47Speaker 1: We're talking about I guess yeah, yeah.
- 34:50Speaker 2: But I miss the days when the guy next to
- 34:52Speaker 2: me was a freaking idiot. Yeah, I didn't know it
- 34:56Speaker 2: was I miss those days.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yep. I'm with you. I'm with you. What's your number? One? Here?
- 35:00Speaker 1: Most annoying sports story of twenty twenty four?
- 35:03Speaker 3: All right, this is kind of a two part right
- 35:06Speaker 3: time in the baseball's issues with being just not popular anymore,
- 35:11Speaker 3: the inevitability of the hot to a girl entering the
- 35:16Speaker 3: sports world. Like So, when I first saw the footage,
- 35:22Speaker 3: I laughed like everyone else.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I was like, God, damn, she's a personality.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Man, she's funny and you know she's But watched the
- 35:32Speaker 3: first time that was funny. Watched the second time, my
- 35:34Speaker 3: second thought was like she was tailor made for college football.
- 35:39Speaker 3: She's gonna be on the set of College Game Day
- 35:42Speaker 3: by like what week one, week two, week three.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Something like that.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Like she's with the accent, the way she looks. I've
- 35:48Speaker 3: already seen her footage of her country concerts where she's
- 35:52Speaker 3: wearing like the Luke Comb's uniform.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I think she's got her own podcast too at this point,
- 35:56Speaker 1: doesn't she?
- 35:57Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, cowboy boots, cowboy hat, halter top, Daisy Duke shorts,
- 36:04Speaker 3: and it's almost like she was made in a lab
- 36:07Speaker 3: by Pat McAfee. Many ESPN right like to be on
- 36:11Speaker 3: college football. But where the annoying part comes through is
- 36:16Speaker 3: how baseball because it's so unpopular and they just just
- 36:20Speaker 3: they're just grabbing for like reaching for straws, grasping for straws.
- 36:25Speaker 2: She's like throwing first pitches out of games.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Now, yes, and it's like that is so sad as
- 36:31Speaker 3: a baseball fan, it is that's like I understand having
- 36:35Speaker 3: the monkey who rides a dog at a minor league
- 36:39Speaker 3: baseball game for the first place, run the baseball to
- 36:41Speaker 3: the catcher. Get that, and basically this is the same thing.
- 36:46Speaker 3: It's a complete mockery. Uh she has she's famous for
- 36:51Speaker 3: spitting on men's penises. Let's just say it out loud,
- 36:54Speaker 3: to quote the great Lake Great Norm McDonald, like, that's
- 36:58Speaker 3: that's how he would have described her because he didn't
- 37:00Speaker 3: understand any endo comedy was so blunt.
- 37:03Speaker 2: That's how he would have described the woman.
- 37:05Speaker 3: And but now she's at major league baseball games throwing
- 37:08Speaker 3: out pitches, and it's like that's what baseball has to do.
- 37:12Speaker 3: And that's where they're at. And I can only imagine
- 37:14Speaker 3: the meeting they had, like with Manfred, like he's such
- 37:18Speaker 3: an uptight, stick up the ass kind of guy. I'm
- 37:21Speaker 3: sure they were, like they tried to describe who she
- 37:24Speaker 3: was but kept that part out.
- 37:26Speaker 1: Well, well, what does hawk to mean?
- 37:29Speaker 2: Exactly? No, No, don't look up your phone do that?
- 37:32Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Can you imagine the announcer, no, coming out
- 37:36Speaker 1: to the mound hawk to a girl it's the.
- 37:42Speaker 3: DJ girl like that, like that's my might as well
- 37:44Speaker 3: have to announce her, right, yeah, and then God bless
- 37:47Speaker 3: her like that's awesome, you're famous for whatever.
- 37:49Speaker 2: But like that's what baseball has has become, Like we have.
- 37:52Speaker 3: This is who, we trot out that throughout the first pitch,
- 37:55Speaker 3: and her first pitch wasn't too bad.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Actually give her that. But that's that's where my baseball's.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's it's they need. And I'll tell you this.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Baseball has done some good stuff though with the pitch
- 38:07Speaker 1: clock we're getting. I mean, it is enjoyable to watch
- 38:11Speaker 1: baseball games now, it is, but it's just not it's
- 38:15Speaker 1: not bringing younger folks in. You're a baseball coach for
- 38:17Speaker 1: a little league team, and you you tell me you're
- 38:20Speaker 1: like the kids. They don't want to go home and
- 38:22Speaker 1: watch baseball, you know.
- 38:24Speaker 2: None of them do.
- 38:25Speaker 3: And here's the thing, though, it's just you and I,
- 38:28Speaker 3: two old nerds you like baseball talking about this. Yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 3: it's not my son going oh the hook too, it's
- 38:34Speaker 3: just you and me.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:35Speaker 2: It hasn't like, it's not going to transcend, So why
- 38:39Speaker 2: even bother? Its right kind of take?
- 38:40Speaker 1: I like it. I like it a lot. That's a
- 38:42Speaker 1: good number one, my number one. It really comes down
- 38:46Speaker 1: to people just trying to tear each other down, people
- 38:51Speaker 1: trying to take something that's a good story in sports
- 38:56Speaker 1: and doing their best to just try to trample on
- 38:59Speaker 1: it as much as possible. And for me, my most
- 39:02Speaker 1: annoying sports story here in twenty twenty four eric is
- 39:06Speaker 1: how people were trying to just completely dunk on Caitlin
- 39:11Speaker 1: Clark coming to the WNBA as a rookie. Throughout the
- 39:16Speaker 1: entire season. It was just, Oh, I can't wait for
- 39:19Speaker 1: her to fail. I can't wait for her to struggle.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I can't wait for her to have this obstacle. She
- 39:25Speaker 1: may not be able to get through this challenge, this
- 39:28Speaker 1: entire narrative, a media narrative of her wanting to fail,
- 39:34Speaker 1: of them wanting her to fail so many, whether it's
- 39:38Speaker 1: media outlets, whether it is specific sports journalists, or just
- 39:42Speaker 1: the overall feel on social media of all, right, yeah,
- 39:46Speaker 1: you know what, she really might not be all that great.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Let's see what she has in the WNBA. She's had
- 39:51Speaker 1: a pretty damn good freaking season thus far. She really has.
- 39:55Speaker 1: When you look at it, when you look at an
- 39:58Speaker 1: athlete like her, what she did in the in the
- 40:00Speaker 1: collegiate sport of women's basketball and brought it to the
- 40:04Speaker 1: professional level, I think she's done a damn good job.
- 40:07Speaker 1: But the level of just wanting her to fail was
- 40:11Speaker 1: so annoying week after week after week, and you saw
- 40:15Speaker 1: it in different areas, and that right there was the
- 40:18Speaker 1: most annoying sports thing for me all year. It's like,
- 40:21Speaker 1: why can't we just fucking cheer somebody on who's really
- 40:24Speaker 1: good and by the way, pretty damn humble too, with
- 40:28Speaker 1: regard to you know, what they're doing and the influence
- 40:31Speaker 1: that they have on a certain community and within our culture.
- 40:34Speaker 1: But no, we're gonna shoot on them instead. So that
- 40:37Speaker 1: was the most annoying for me.
- 40:38Speaker 2: This year.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Yeah, and unfortunately in today's sports where it was inevitable.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 3: The sad thing with like everyone having a platform, like
- 40:48Speaker 3: I talked about earlier, is that you know, I'll go
- 40:52Speaker 3: back to Jordan right like it it took like what
- 40:55Speaker 3: seven seasons or like everyone loved Michael Jordan and then
- 41:00Speaker 3: like seven seasons in it was like, okay, let's tear
- 41:03Speaker 3: him down, like we can't do this anymore. He's he's
- 41:07Speaker 3: hit the apex and where we're gonna We're gonna go
- 41:09Speaker 3: after him for the gambling.
- 41:11Speaker 2: His dad was murdered. That got weird, right, but it's
- 41:15Speaker 2: so accelerated now with with social media and like just
- 41:18Speaker 2: twenty four by seven sports covers that she did. She
- 41:22Speaker 2: wasn't even she didn't play her first rookie game and
- 41:25Speaker 2: people were already like.
- 41:26Speaker 1: She sucks, ye yes, like just shipping on her for
- 41:30Speaker 1: she hadn't played the freaking dribble.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I mean, by by season three, sure, let's let's do this,
- 41:36Speaker 3: but like god, she didn't even like have the uniform
- 41:39Speaker 3: on and people were shitting on her just so we
- 41:42Speaker 3: do this, right, and it it's nice to have all
- 41:47Speaker 3: that like like immediate, like U immediate like reaction and
- 41:52Speaker 3: stuff reaction intake from from social media. It helps us
- 41:55Speaker 3: do the show, but the side effect is just absolute nonsense.
- 41:59Speaker 3: We talked about like all three of these stories, like
- 42:02Speaker 3: but that it probably is probably like the worst one.
- 42:04Speaker 3: That's someone who is the Steph Curry probably of her generation,
- 42:08Speaker 3: Like she's going to change the game, she canna change
- 42:10Speaker 3: the MEBA and the fact that we've been talking about
- 42:12Speaker 3: the MVNBA because of her like on this show and
- 42:16Speaker 3: we're already like not us.
- 42:18Speaker 2: But like people are already like, well, I don't know
- 42:21Speaker 2: about this. She's kind of full of shit. And the
- 42:23Speaker 2: angel recently, my god, give her a shot.
- 42:27Speaker 3: And yeah it's again I mentioned Pat mcphear earlier. It's
- 42:31Speaker 3: the Pat mcafeeish ian of sports and it sucks.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Yep, good top three list there. We'd love to hear
- 42:38Speaker 1: your top three most annoying stories here in twenty twenty
- 42:42Speaker 1: fourth Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com. Shoot us
- 42:44Speaker 1: off that email. We'd love to read them and read
- 42:47Speaker 1: them here in the show too. Quick Phillies talk here
- 42:49Speaker 1: before we get to our interview with Justin Klue from
- 42:52Speaker 1: Baseball Perspectives and the Hitting Season podcast. Eric the Sky's
- 42:58Speaker 1: not falling with this team, and I'm gonna talk about
- 43:01Speaker 1: that with Justin as well. But things are okay in
- 43:06Speaker 1: Phillies Nation here. I mean, they got through a pretty
- 43:09Speaker 1: tough They won two series against the Astros and the Royals,
- 43:13Speaker 1: two pretty damn good teams. And the certain sector of
- 43:18Speaker 1: fans within this Phillies fan base that just go absolutely
- 43:22Speaker 1: ape shit when when one loss in baseball happens. It's
- 43:28Speaker 1: driving me crazy. This team is not in a terrible position.
- 43:34Speaker 1: I doubt Dave Dombrowski understood what was necessarily gonna be
- 43:37Speaker 1: happening with Tywn Walker, you know when he signed that contract.
- 43:41Speaker 1: But look, I think the pitching situation is gonna get better.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Chris Sanchez still there, Ranger Suarez. We're gonna be talking
- 43:49Speaker 1: about the fact that when you have two pitchers like
- 43:50Speaker 1: Aaron Nola and Zach Wheeler, you're you're gonna be okay
- 43:54Speaker 1: for the playoffs. You really are gonna be okay for
- 43:56Speaker 1: the postseason. Sky's not falling with this team at all.
- 44:00Speaker 4: Well.
- 44:00Speaker 1: In fact, the bats are starting to come back now.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Nick Castiano's looking good as of late. Like things I
- 44:07Speaker 1: think are gonna be okay for this team. Maybe getting
- 44:10Speaker 1: hot right here at the right time. So I'm feeling
- 44:12Speaker 1: all right right now.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Can I amend my first story for top top three annoying?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Sure?
- 44:21Speaker 3: Number one is time on Walker pitching for my favorite team.
- 44:24Speaker 3: That's my most annoying story of the year. He got
- 44:28Speaker 3: he got obliterated today, which I mean.
- 44:31Speaker 1: We all kind of knew it. It was gonna happen.
- 44:33Speaker 2: We all knew it, and so did Thompson.
- 44:35Speaker 3: He like I text you last time, was like, thank
- 44:37Speaker 3: goodness they put Walker against the Astros in that last game,
- 44:40Speaker 3: which is meaningless, Like they won the first two, so
- 44:42Speaker 3: who gives a ship? Yeah, you wanted to say, if
- 44:44Speaker 3: you're pitching, you know, roster for for the Braves and
- 44:48Speaker 3: the next four games, so I don't need be that
- 44:50Speaker 3: bad tennother he got he got disaster roasted. But like,
- 44:55Speaker 3: but I'm in such a better place with the Phillies
- 44:57Speaker 3: right now. Like last week with is I think, uh
- 45:02Speaker 3: my god, was it last week or there was one
- 45:04Speaker 3: show where I was an eight.
- 45:05Speaker 2: I'm like, we are a falling the hell apart?
- 45:07Speaker 1: Oh we did that show. We did that show like
- 45:08Speaker 1: four weeks ago.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yeah, right now they just went four and two against
- 45:12Speaker 3: two pretty good American League teams. Ye, kick their asses
- 45:15Speaker 3: in those four wins, and you're now you're going against
- 45:18Speaker 3: the Braves, You're what seven games up in the NLE
- 45:21Speaker 3: East if you come out of this three to one,
- 45:23Speaker 3: like you're you're up like nine games like we'ren't a
- 45:26Speaker 3: great spot. The offensive the bats are coming alive. Do
- 45:30Speaker 3: you have your pitching rotation set? If Walker pitches near
- 45:33Speaker 3: the end of the year against the Nats in the Marlins,
- 45:36Speaker 3: who gives a ship? So Phillies an't a great.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Casi Castillanas, Casianas, what the hell his name is? Awesome?
- 45:44Speaker 3: Like crushing the ball? He was awful the first two
- 45:45Speaker 3: months of the season. He's he looks great. Harper's starting
- 45:48Speaker 3: to come alive, thank god. Yes, he's going to be huge.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Schwarber is just Schwarber's having a great, great year and
- 45:55Speaker 3: it's not talked about enough.
- 45:57Speaker 1: You're absolutely right about that.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, what you and Justin talk about in the interview.
- 46:02Speaker 3: But I will say this my favorite guest on the
- 46:06Speaker 3: show ever. Justin Clue is hilarious. Yes, and it's funny.
- 46:10Speaker 3: You text me for the show. He's like, Justin Clue
- 46:12Speaker 3: is so funny, And I was actually gonna write back.
- 46:14Speaker 3: I was gonna say during the show, like he like he's.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Legit funny, like naturally funny.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Yes, podcast funny. There's sports funny, like like there's not
- 46:25Speaker 3: a lot of guys in sports that are literally like
- 46:27Speaker 3: really really funny my opinion, like like they're funny when
- 46:31Speaker 3: they're not trying to be funny, but when they try
- 46:33Speaker 3: to be funny, they're not funny.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Right, that makes perfect sense.
- 46:36Speaker 3: When Ricky Henderson tries to be funny, he's not funny.
- 46:38Speaker 3: But when Ricky's like, yeah, Ricky did this and Ricky
- 46:41Speaker 3: did that, that's hilarious, Like he's just kind of just
- 46:43Speaker 3: doing the Ricky thing. Yeah, that shows my agent Ricky
- 46:47Speaker 3: Henderson reference. But yeah, Justin Klude was a great guest,
- 46:50Speaker 3: my favorite and uh, really really funny guy.
- 46:53Speaker 1: We're gonna get into some of justice. Justin was on
- 46:55Speaker 1: the show back in March, and we're gonna start just
- 46:57Speaker 1: to let let folks know, we're gonna start talking about
- 47:00Speaker 1: his hot takes. When I was doing that interview back
- 47:03Speaker 1: in March, I was like, give me some hot takes
- 47:05Speaker 1: for this upcoming season and would tell you one of
- 47:07Speaker 1: them right now is awesome, and I cannot wait to
- 47:09Speaker 1: hear what he has to say here that Christian pashe
- 47:12Speaker 1: would have an offensive tear in July bat three fifty,
- 47:17Speaker 1: I mean on a team. I can't wait to talk
- 47:21Speaker 1: about that.
- 47:22Speaker 2: And then, yeah, he's hilarious.
- 47:24Speaker 1: He is, he is, And I know he hates that
- 47:26Speaker 1: just from his tweets like over the and listening to
- 47:29Speaker 1: you know, the Hitting Season podcast with John Stalness and
- 47:32Speaker 1: and Liz Rocher as well, I know he hates the
- 47:35Speaker 1: City Connect Jerseys. So we're gonna talk about that. He
- 47:38Speaker 1: had a hot take about the City Connect Jerseys too.
- 47:40Speaker 2: So I'm with him.
- 47:45Speaker 1: All right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go. We're gonna
- 47:47Speaker 1: get to this interview here. You got anything else, man
- 47:49Speaker 1: before before we head out this week, No, no.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I think I think me, you and Lan next week
- 47:55Speaker 2: on the show. That was my suggestion before the show.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Let's try to get him, Yeah, let's try to get.
- 47:59Speaker 2: Him right his busy calendar.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, we've got kids. We've got to run our
- 48:05Speaker 1: kids around things after school. Let's stop. You're the dog,
- 48:09Speaker 1: that's it exactly. All right, folks, we're gonna take a break.
- 48:13Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit, all right, we
- 48:16Speaker 1: are back. Let's getting more Phillies talk. It's what we're
- 48:19Speaker 1: thrown down on the table and now on the table.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Joining us this week, coming to us from Baseball prospect
- 48:28Speaker 1: Us and also you can hear him over on the
- 48:30Speaker 1: Hit and Season podcast, Why y Billypenn dot com. We've
- 48:35Speaker 1: got the one and only Justin Klude, justin, Buddy. It
- 48:37Speaker 1: is great being able to talk to you about this
- 48:40Speaker 1: Philly season here and thanks for jumping on board. Man.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Happy to be here. No topic more front of mind
- 48:48Speaker 4: for optimistic people right now than the Philadelphia Phillies exactly.
- 48:52Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about this team and what we've been
- 48:54Speaker 1: seeing from them, what may be happening in the future.
- 48:57Speaker 1: But we got to revisit something, Buddy, because you were
- 49:00Speaker 1: on in March. It was actually March twenty first you
- 49:03Speaker 1: were on the podcast here we're having a fun time
- 49:06Speaker 1: right before the season was gonna be getting underway, and
- 49:10Speaker 1: asked you for some hot takes and predictions about this
- 49:13Speaker 1: upcoming Philly season, and I loved it. I actually went
- 49:16Speaker 1: back listened to everything because one in particular I mentioned
- 49:20Speaker 1: and I wanted to dive into with you, and we'll
- 49:21Speaker 1: get to that in just a second. But I gotta
- 49:23Speaker 1: tell you, you and I we both had a hot
- 49:26Speaker 1: take that Bryce and Scott would be an All Star.
- 49:29Speaker 1: That hasn't happened yet here this season. Christian pashe would
- 49:34Speaker 1: have an offensive tear in July in batting three point
- 49:39Speaker 1: fifty in July. I believe you said there. One of
- 49:41Speaker 1: my favorites was that a bird would nest in Brandon
- 49:44Speaker 1: Marsh's beard during the course of a game. We still
- 49:47Speaker 1: have some season left, folks. That could happen, and the
- 49:51Speaker 1: most likely, you said would be the vitriol that the
- 49:54Speaker 1: fans would have for the City Connect jerseys. But then
- 49:57Speaker 1: Nick Castianus, with the way he wears his jerseys, you
- 50:00Speaker 1: know that double unbuttoned jersey, He'd have a walk off
- 50:05Speaker 1: homer while wearing that jersey, and then everyone would love
- 50:08Speaker 1: the City Connect jerseys. Sales would go through the roof.
- 50:12Speaker 1: So let's do a little dissection of these here, shall we.
- 50:15Speaker 4: First of all, this Scotcha journalism is what's ruining the
- 50:20Speaker 4: media in this country. I had no idea that saying
- 50:25Speaker 4: these things would also mean that you would remember them
- 50:28Speaker 4: and that I would be then held accountable for them.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I thought it'd be fun.
- 50:32Speaker 4: The Christian pace offensive terra is especially egregious. I believe
- 50:36Speaker 4: someone ran into my studio and grabbed the microphone from
- 50:40Speaker 4: me and shouted that into it. Right, that's actually what
- 50:43Speaker 4: I'm prepared to submits as my reasoning there. That doesn't
- 50:46Speaker 4: honestly doesn't even sound like me.
- 50:48Speaker 1: I gotta say again, Bryce and Scott very disappointing season overall.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I mean, hopefully we see something from him in in
- 50:56Speaker 1: September October. I don't know. This may just be uh,
- 50:59Speaker 1: this just made that be his year, but I don't know.
- 51:03Speaker 1: I'm starting to have some concerns though about second base
- 51:07Speaker 1: for the future. And we know this is baseball too,
- 51:10Speaker 1: you know what. We're seeing a lot with this Phillies team.
- 51:12Speaker 1: The good, the bad, the great, the ugly. It's baseball
- 51:16Speaker 1: at the end of the day, and this is a
- 51:17Speaker 1: team that has one of the best records in baseball.
- 51:20Speaker 1: There's no reason, I think, for anybody to get absolutely
- 51:24Speaker 1: crazy in terms of even even though they got killed today,
- 51:27Speaker 1: tended nothing as we're recording this on August twenty eighth
- 51:30Speaker 1: here this Wednesday. But I do wonder about the second
- 51:33Speaker 1: base position in the future after Bryson Scott has had
- 51:36Speaker 1: kind of an underwhelming season here. I don't know, are
- 51:39Speaker 1: you concerned about second base at all? Moving forward?
- 51:41Speaker 4: We've watched a series of key Phillies players, some of
- 51:44Speaker 4: whom we're gonna tout on this very episode, have entire
- 51:47Speaker 4: seasons that are disposable, And yeah, you have other factors like, well,
- 51:51Speaker 4: this guy got paid this much, so he's not going anywhere,
- 51:54Speaker 4: blah blah blah. I would be really surprised if Bryson
- 51:57Speaker 4: Scott was not still considered or the Phillies second basement
- 52:01Speaker 4: of the future after this season. It's been really disappointing,
- 52:05Speaker 4: and Alec Bohm, I think, filled that role that we
- 52:08Speaker 4: were hoping Bryson Stott was going to fill as a
- 52:10Speaker 4: young member of the team who was not a high
- 52:13Speaker 4: priced free agent that was brought in who stepped in
- 52:15Speaker 4: had a career year. I was on record as well
- 52:18Speaker 4: saying I thought we'd seen the height of Alec Bohm's effectiveness.
- 52:22Speaker 4: I was definitely wrong on that too, but yeah, I
- 52:25Speaker 4: definitely thought Stott was the more likely of the two
- 52:27Speaker 4: to become an All Star. He obviously has not done that.
- 52:31Speaker 4: I think you can look at a lot of extenuating
- 52:33Speaker 4: circumstances I think you can look at him having a
- 52:35Speaker 4: baby and just not being able to get back on track.
- 52:39Speaker 4: He talked about like, oh I want to you know,
- 52:42Speaker 4: in the second half, expect better things from me, and
- 52:44Speaker 4: it just you know, I think we have seen some
- 52:46Speaker 4: you know, clusters of more greater effectiveness from Bryson Stott,
- 52:49Speaker 4: but nothing that's gonna get people to agree that like
- 52:51Speaker 4: his season is being turned around. End of the day,
- 52:54Speaker 4: this is still a guy who has the profile that
- 52:58Speaker 4: he started the season with. He's got the ceiling he
- 53:01Speaker 4: started the season with. You're just seeing a guy have
- 53:04Speaker 4: an off year. I really do think it's it's a
- 53:06Speaker 4: case of of just off the field factors and just
- 53:11Speaker 4: you know, getting in his own head and being a
- 53:13Speaker 4: young player. Is really just he's been scuffling for for
- 53:16Speaker 4: months on end, and you see you see some hard
- 53:18Speaker 4: contact now and again in your hope. Okay, well maybe
- 53:20Speaker 4: this is the start of turning it around. We know
- 53:22Speaker 4: these young players they can get in their own heads, right.
- 53:24Speaker 4: No one is harder on Alec Bohm than Alec Bohm.
- 53:26Speaker 4: He's the most emotional player out there, and Bryson Stott,
- 53:29Speaker 4: you know, not is visibly emotional, but he's still young
- 53:32Speaker 4: like Boehm, and he's he's still almost certainly struggling in
- 53:35Speaker 4: the same way when he's not coming through and he
- 53:37Speaker 4: wants to come through. So no, I don't I think
- 53:40Speaker 4: that we can all agree Bryson Stott has had a
- 53:42Speaker 4: really disappointing year. I will say that, but I will
- 53:45Speaker 4: say that anybody who is moving another step ahead and saying, Okay,
- 53:49Speaker 4: we got to think about what the future at second
- 53:51Speaker 4: base is. I think you're starting to get a little
- 53:54Speaker 4: dramatic there, because this team is this team has been
- 53:57Speaker 4: able to function when you know, Trey Turner was gone,
- 54:01Speaker 4: was not even gone, not a factor for like five
- 54:04Speaker 4: out of six months, when Nick Castianos got here and
- 54:06Speaker 4: had a very disappointing season, when they were, you know,
- 54:09Speaker 4: without Bryce Harper for like a month and a half
- 54:12Speaker 4: at one point. I mean, they can be missing key
- 54:14Speaker 4: players and still be a really good team. And that
- 54:17Speaker 4: leaves room for a guy like Bryson Stott to continue
- 54:19Speaker 4: his development because guess what, reaching the major leagues doesn't
- 54:22Speaker 4: mean your development stops. And part of that is your
- 54:24Speaker 4: mental skills. And that's something I'm sure that he's he's
- 54:27Speaker 4: been working with and going to continue working with moving forward.
- 54:30Speaker 4: So I would still guess that the Phillies see a
- 54:32Speaker 4: future for Bryson Stott in their organization. I'd be really
- 54:36Speaker 4: surprised if they went out into yet another pretty meager
- 54:39Speaker 4: free agent market. If I'm not mistaken and started hunting
- 54:43Speaker 4: for some veteran second baseman to bring in to replace
- 54:46Speaker 4: Bryson Stott, I would be very surprised.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Bird still has the opportunity to nest in Brandon Marsh's beard.
- 54:53Speaker 4: I will say a baseball did nest in his glove
- 54:57Speaker 4: by accident, so we're pretty close. I was pretty pretty
- 55:01Speaker 4: close to uh No, I think I think baseball only
- 55:05Speaker 4: has so many animal player interactions and it's it's general cycle,
- 55:09Speaker 4: and that one of was it Victor Roebliss like telling
- 55:12Speaker 4: the what was on his hat? It was like a
- 55:14Speaker 4: praying mantis was.
- 55:15Speaker 1: On his Yes, something like that, Yes, it is signaling.
- 55:17Speaker 4: The amount of outs to that. I think that burned
- 55:22Speaker 4: up a lot of the more novel player animal interactions
- 55:25Speaker 4: for the next decade. That was just really just a
- 55:28Speaker 4: bad guess on my part.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Well, this are the City connect Jersey's grown on you
- 55:33Speaker 1: anything funny thing.
- 55:36Speaker 4: I think I hate them more now them Okay, I
- 55:39Speaker 4: had a conversation with somebody. I was down in Kansas
- 55:41Speaker 4: City for a couple of those games, and I was
- 55:43Speaker 4: talking to a friend of mine, and you know, we
- 55:45Speaker 4: got on this topic again, and it was just like,
- 55:47Speaker 4: you know, the thing that that really ticks me off
- 55:50Speaker 4: the most is just the amount of great ideas out
- 55:54Speaker 4: there from the general public that just that not only
- 55:57Speaker 4: did they not do, but they were never going to
- 56:00Speaker 4: do it right. And we were talking about like, oh, man,
- 56:02Speaker 4: can you imagine if they made these jerseys that had
- 56:05Speaker 4: like detachable sleeves so you could like rip them off
- 56:08Speaker 4: in celebration, and then like for the rest of the game,
- 56:11Speaker 4: you're just playing with these like this tattered armhole, only
- 56:14Speaker 4: you just giant muscles and Kyle Schwarber like ripping them
- 56:17Speaker 4: off when sliding into second after a double or something.
- 56:20Speaker 4: I mean, that's so cool, that's so Philly. That's such
- 56:22Speaker 4: a macho row reference. That's so that's so good for
- 56:26Speaker 4: this team, and that's something again that they would never
- 56:28Speaker 4: ever ever have done. And then you look at the
- 56:30Speaker 4: current City Connect jerseys and you're like, oh, right, this
- 56:33Speaker 4: is just more corporate bs right, like this, oh it's
- 56:36Speaker 4: the flag. Oh the Constitution. Wow, so creative. I'm blown away.
- 56:41Speaker 4: I kind of was like, yeah, by itself, the jersey
- 56:44Speaker 4: is tough, but the ensemble is better than the jersey.
- 56:46Speaker 4: But so honestly, I'm rescinding even that. I don't. I
- 56:49Speaker 4: don't like them. They just they had there was so
- 56:52Speaker 4: much potential, and yeah, it just never was gonna be
- 56:55Speaker 4: as good as it was supposed to be. And not
- 56:56Speaker 4: even not even a Nick Castiano's walk off Homer was
- 57:00Speaker 4: gonna fix that.
- 57:00Speaker 1: I was.
- 57:01Speaker 4: I was a sweet summer child when I said all
- 57:03Speaker 4: that that was, that was that was the guy who
- 57:05Speaker 4: hadn't just watched Taiwan Walker.
- 57:07Speaker 1: Oh you're a sweet boy. You're still a sweet boy,
- 57:10Speaker 1: my friend, you are. I'll tell you that right now.
- 57:12Speaker 1: You hate the jerseys. And what we're hating right now,
- 57:14Speaker 1: of course, is watching Taiwan Walker on the mound. Oh
- 57:18Speaker 1: my gosh. So let's let's get into some pitching here,
- 57:21Speaker 1: and and let's get into Taiwan Walker. Here is win
- 57:24Speaker 1: loss record now after today three and six, he's got
- 57:27Speaker 1: a six point five zero e er A. Things are
- 57:31Speaker 1: not good. They're not good, folks, My gosh, I just
- 57:36Speaker 1: I just can't see Tywan Walker. Rebounding at this point
- 57:40Speaker 1: in the season, at any point throughout the course of
- 57:43Speaker 1: this regular season, such a liability his velocity just it
- 57:46Speaker 1: isn't a threat to anybody in the batter's box we
- 57:49Speaker 1: saw today and amazingly, whether it was Walker even Rob
- 57:53Speaker 1: Thompson trying to spin things that you know, we're seeing
- 57:56Speaker 1: some I'm seeing some good things here or there or whatever.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I don't know, And look, I could be wrong about this.
- 58:02Speaker 1: We all could be. I don't think we are wrong
- 58:05Speaker 1: about Taiwan Walker at this point. What are your thoughts
- 58:08Speaker 1: on what the Phillies do here, what Rob Thompson needs
- 58:11Speaker 1: to do with Walker here in the foreseeable future, justin
- 58:15Speaker 1: it just it just doesn't seem to be getting any better.
- 58:17Speaker 4: Buddy, You know what you shouldn't do when you're feeling
- 58:21Speaker 4: that level of like pissed at Taiwan Walker or Rob Thompson,
- 58:25Speaker 4: like in general, any picture manager, You should not go
- 58:28Speaker 4: seek out the post game quotes from a guy like that,
- 58:31Speaker 4: because you know what you're not gonna see. Oh man,
- 58:34Speaker 4: the fans were right. I'm packing my bags.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Don't worry about it.
- 58:40Speaker 4: You know my lock and my name's off my lock. No,
- 58:42Speaker 4: you're gonna see what Taiwan Walker said, which was like,
- 58:44Speaker 4: I know this is tough to believe, but our plan
- 58:46Speaker 4: today was to get quick outs, and there were occasions
- 58:48Speaker 4: where we did that. So I do feel like that
- 58:50Speaker 4: was a success. And you're sitting there with your jaw
- 58:52Speaker 4: on the floor, but you know, to an extent, he
- 58:54Speaker 4: is right, and you know, I'm not saying you got
- 58:57Speaker 4: to give him credit, but this was his role. Like
- 59:00Speaker 4: anybody who went into this game today thinking, wow, the
- 59:03Speaker 4: Phillies genuinely think Taiwan Walker is going to turn it around.
- 59:08Speaker 4: Rob Thompson didn't think Tywan Walker was going to turn around.
- 59:11Speaker 4: He was never gonna say he thought that, but he
- 59:13Speaker 4: didn't think that. Nobody in the Phillies front office thought that.
- 59:17Speaker 4: Nobody in that ballpark thought that. You know why Taiwan
- 59:20Speaker 4: Walker was out there because right now, Taiwan Walker is
- 59:23Speaker 4: a human shield for the effective starters in the Phillies rotation.
- 59:28Speaker 4: Somebody like I think it was that guy Kinkaid, John Kinkaid,
- 59:32Speaker 4: just complaining, working up his thunderclap of complaints about how
- 59:36Speaker 4: oh they're gonna do this right before a big series
- 59:39Speaker 4: with the Braves and throw of them. Amen, you know
- 59:41Speaker 4: when He's why they did it before the series with
- 59:43Speaker 4: the Braves, because they would have had to use him
- 59:45Speaker 4: in the series with the Braves. Somebody has to pitch
- 59:49Speaker 4: in this spot, and unfortunately that the class of guys
- 59:52Speaker 4: the Phillies have for this role. Taiwan Walker, Tyler Phillips, Tyler,
- 59:56Speaker 4: and there's another Tyler that just kind of fell out
- 59:58Speaker 4: of the other Tyler, Tyn Colby, Allard Mercado like Unfortunately,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: none of these guys maybe Mercado, but none of these
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: guys are really like the exciting one of the group.
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: We had that guy. That guy was Spencer Turnbull. He's gone.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: Forget about him. That's not a thing anymore. So that
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: got used up early in the season. Now they just
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: kind of have this empty void where they need a
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: pitcher and they just don't have a guy who can
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: consistently fill that role. These young guys can come up
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: and you throw them at a lineup that's never seen
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: him before, and they can look effective for a couple
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: of starts, but if they're not good enough to make
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: the adjustments in the major leagues, then they're going to
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: start getting hit. That's a separate issue. Taiwan Walker has
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: is just not an effective starting pitcher anymore. Right, you
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: don't have to be a scout or even have two
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: eyeballs to really see Tywan Walker unfortunately doesn't have it anymore.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: And unfortunately that means people are going to go after him,
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: so he has to shut down all the social media
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: accounts and they're going to do all these personal attacks
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: when the truth is that Taiwan Walker is one of
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: the few openly very decent human beings in Major League Baseball.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: So it's actually really unfortunate that he just doesn't have
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: it anymore. He just doesn't. He'll never say that either,
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: which you know, an aging pitcher who's not being effective
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: anymore is going to keep talking. Well, I think I
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: can figure something. I think I got. I was feeling
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: good by the end of blah blah blah. Splitter ain't splitting.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: It's just not happening. And the Phillies know that. But
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: they need someone to pitch here. And I think the
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: reason you saw them purposefully move him into this start
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: was because they're about to have four pretty crucial games
- 1:01:25Speaker 4: with a really hot Braves team that is, for some reason,
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: a hot Braves team that just won eight out of
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: ten with wit Meryfield and their starting lineup incredible g
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: o Orshella as the other part of that double play combination,
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: and yeah, they're still doing great and they want to
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: be able to start their best, most effective starting pitchers.
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: And you would have been ripping your hair out if
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: Taiwan Walker was making that start. Yep, is he going
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: to make another start? I don't know, but I'm gonna
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: tell you he can't make a start in a game.
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: The Phillies actually won a win today. I think they
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: were ready to just punt. And honestly, that's the part
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: that ticked me off the most was that starting with
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: jose Al two Bay's steel of Home and because Bryce
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Harper was sleeping, which, by the way, talk about going
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: full full circle here. When you think about Bryce Harper
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: catching Cole Hamill's sleeping and stealing home and now he's
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: getting guys doing that to him, Yeah, that's an unpleasant reality.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: But end of the day, starting with that play, you're
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: just like, boy, they maybe it's the heat, maybe it's
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: knowing it's a Walker's start, maybe it's that they've already
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: locked in the series win. But sometimes they come out
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: and they're just like well we are on he won
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: four games. They do and you're like, yeah, boy, I
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: really thought, you know, you weren't supposed to do that,
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: but they do seem like they do that sometimes, and
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: that's kind of what this game was. This game people
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: were joking and saying automatic loss, but it literally objectively
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: wasn't automatic loss. Taiwan Walker can't be starting for a
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: major league team that wants to win the ball game
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: that he's starting in. But that's again not what the
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Phillies were doing. They were using him to just burn
- 1:02:54Speaker 4: up this start That's why they left him in for
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: so long. That's why you know, he was just gonna
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: have to eat this startup. And that's honest. That's why
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: I want to, like just do the slightestt tip tip
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: of the cap because he sat out there and did
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: what he did today, got beat up. You know, he
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: did not have a good day. I'm sure for his
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: teammates because the team told him get out there, do that.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: He understands his role, I'm sure, even if nobody's saying
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: it out loud so that it's really unfortunate. It sucks,
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: but he shouldn't be starting any games the Phillies want
- 1:03:24Speaker 4: to win moving forward, I think his role is pretty clear.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Because at the end of the day, it's so critical
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: in the game of Major League Baseball to have at
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: least two pitchers who can get the job done. And
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: that's what the Phillies have, and Aaron Nola and Zach
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Wheeler who can shut down just about any lineup in
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: baseball at any time. And again, and that's what's important
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: when the postseason rolls around. And sometimes I think Phillies
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: fans forget that we're in this situation right now, not
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: because Dave Dombrowski wanted it to happen, not because Rob
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Thompson wanted it to happen. It's where Tywan Walker is
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: in his career. But again, when you have two shut
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: down pitchers like Aaron Nola and Zach Wheeler, that's important
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: for postseason play. So I think we should be remaining
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: optimistic as Phillies fans. We should be keeping ourselves optimistic
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: here with with regard to this pitching staff. I guess
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: my question is to you, justin should we, I'm gonna
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: be remaining optimistic with regard to this pitching staff moving
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: forward here? I mean should we? Because I don't I
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: don't think it's the end of the world.
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: I don't even think you need to optimistic. Makes it
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: sound like you're trying to force hopefulness out of a
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: hopeless situation.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: That's what it feels like with some of these fans,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: though it's me crazy with some of them.
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: Jeff Poor, are these people? Come on, these are real people, guys. Well,
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: the guys I saw today was like, you're one hundred
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: percent right John kinkaid that Thompson needs to be fired. No,
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: I don't reply to people on Twitter anymore, and I
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: just wanted to say, first of all, if you he
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: hadn't started this game, he would have started against the Brave.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: Second of all, you spelled the manager's name wrong, So
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: like that's who you that's the degree, Yes, the person
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: you're talking about. People who are just like, well, I
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: don't like what I'm looking at. Fire everybody, Like, that's
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: not how sports work, that's not how baseball, right, That's
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: not how a team operates, and you know you know this,
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: So like, those aren't the people that need to be
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: impressed because it only takes one loss for them to
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: be unimpressed. Again, I think you can be realistic about
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: the Phillies' pitching staff. I don't think they're as like
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: razor sharp and pinpoint as they were in the first half.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: I think anybody would would agree with that.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: However, they still have, yeah, top two starters who you
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: should trust and have in the second half, made plenty
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: of good starts. We just saw Aaron Nola throw seven
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: shutout innings against a good team. So Zach Wheeler has
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: started making good starts. You know. Yeah, he's allowing some
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: traffic on the base pads early and starts, but then
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: he goes out and has like a seven pitch inning
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: in the fifth and you're like, all right, well it
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: all evens out in the end. Yeah, and if they're
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: they're pitching into the sixth, seventh inning, then you're in
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: pretty good shape and limiting offenses. Honestly, like even Walker's
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: starts like they are most they're bad. He puts them
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: in a hole the way, you know, the way things
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: are going. Morale is low from the get go. There's
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: a lot of things wrong, but I'm just saying when
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: you look at the box score from his earlier starts
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: in this zero to nine stretch that he's on, uh,
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: there was you know, cases where he's like giving up
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: three runs and five and a third or four runs
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: in five and two thirds and like, that's not good.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: It's not what you want to see. But it's a
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: fifth starter start, and your offense should be able to
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: overcome that. So even even the Phillies' worst pitchers should
- 1:06:37Speaker 4: be able to rely on the offense, which has been
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: again pretty inconsistent until recently. And that's where you have
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: guys like Suarez coming back from injury and Christopher Sanchez,
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: guys who have also been really, really really good and
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: important parts of this rotation this season. They also should
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: be able to rely on the offense to help carry them.
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: So you know, it's a team effort. But to your point,
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: I think you can still feel good about the Phillies
- 1:06:58Speaker 4: starting pitching staff. They are they are a huge strength
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: of this team and they will be a big part
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: of any success they have down the stretch.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Absolutely, And I wanted to talk about the offense. The
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: bats here seems like the majority of the bats are
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: are alive kind of coming back. I mean not in
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: this game today again here that's a final July hot.
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: But certainly pretty hot. Yeah, they have it.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: I mean they they had a great series against the
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Astros basically passed with these first couple games. Of course,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Bryce Harpery seems to be kind of getting back to form.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Nick Castiano's hitting pretty well. What are your thoughts on
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: the offense, how they've been really trying to crawl out
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: of this hole that they've been in for some time now.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I'm again, I'm having a hope that they're they're getting
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: back to it. You know. Again, it's baseball, and I
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: think that's really the theme of the discussion here. This
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: is baseball, folks. The sky is not falling by any stretch.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I think the bats are coming back here. I think
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: we're going to be seeing some good baseball and some
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: good offense from this Phillies team in the foreseeable future
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: and for some time here.
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: What are your thoughts, Yeah, I think that they are
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: a team of streaky hitters individually, and when put together,
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: they glomb into each other and become a giant, streaky entity.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: And I'll go so far as to even say that
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: looking at the looking at the history of Kevin Long
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: and who he's worked with, he's a guy who can
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: be very beneficial to hitters, but he's also a guy
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: who kind of breeds streaky hitters, you know, and I
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: you know, you saw a lot of calls for him
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: to be fired as well, and like I reached a
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: point after six or seven series losses in a row
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: where it was like, you know what, fire him, don't
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: fire him? Right, It's really not going to make the
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: difference you think it's gonna make, because people, again will
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: never truly understand what it is a hitting coach does.
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: I'm not saying I could sit here and explain it
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: to you, but I could give a general idea. It's
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: certainly not that he's like giving everybody's shoulder rubs and
- 1:08:47Speaker 4: you know, telling them, like telling them like standing there
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: holding the bat for him, like that's that's not that
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: is not what a hitting coach does, right. You heard
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: Nick Casianos just talk about how like no, I literally
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: just go up there and swing at the ball when
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: I see it. And you're like, yep, well, some thoughts
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: you can steep to go.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I wish I were really given I really wish he
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: was given shoulder rubs. That'd be great. Just getting the
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: camera right on that, Oh god, that'd be great.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: But you're you're right, You're starting to see. I mean,
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: this team wouldn't have won two series in a row
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: against two very tough playoff bound American League teams if
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: their offense hadn't come through. I mean leaving that, you
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: know again Taiwan Walker's start that started the Royal series.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: I certainly wasn't expecting them to outscore the Royals twenty
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: two to five in the last two games of that series,
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: but they came out and did that. I don't think
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: you can rely on JT. Real Muto to hit two
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: three run home runs every night or have a seven
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: RBI night every night, but it's still possible that he's
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: going to get hot. He's gonna get it, he's gonna
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: be able to make some solid contact. And if all
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: these guys were hitting like two seventy together, that's a
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: really good offense. And you know what, since since the
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: start of July, most of them are like Austin Hayes
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: in limited games is hitting about two sixty, Johann Rojas
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: is hitting about two seventy, real Muto, bom Turner, Castianos,
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: you know, a guy like again, in limited use, Weston
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: Wilson is hitting like three eighty three. In July first,
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: so like you're getting contributions from everybody, which is which
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: is how this team is successful. That is, when they've
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: been at their most successful, it's been a top down effort.
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: They can get by with just like a couple of
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: guys hitting, but everybody's more comfortable when they're hitting as
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: a group. And I do think, I do think that
- 1:10:30Speaker 4: they are entering a let's say, hotter phase of their offense,
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: which I think is really important as you get into September.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: I mean, the timing of this season has been very strange.
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: Last two years, We've just watched them start really slow,
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: gradually get more and more hot, and then go into
- 1:10:46Speaker 4: the playoffs a really hot and exciting team before inevitably
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: flaming out. And this season we saw them get off
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: to a really hot start, have their dead period right
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: after the All Star break, and if they're coming out
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: of it now, then I mean the timing's kind of
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: in their favor. Yeah.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Absolutely, that being said, as we close out the discussion here,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: justin I'm wondering what the biggest obstacle is facing this
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: team from now until the end of the regular season.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: And like I mean, of course, we talked about the pitching,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: talked about Taiwan Walker. You know, we talked about the
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: streakiness of some players here, But is there one part
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: of this team that you're kind of honing in on
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: to say, Okay, I think this is the biggest obstacle.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: We really got to we really got to be keen
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: in on this as we're moving forward here.
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: I guess where I land on. This is a broad,
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: a broader take o'kind so much like, oh, there, this
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: one picture has to figure things out, or this, you know,
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: the bullpen needs to you know, blah blah blah. It's
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: not so much that I mean, all that stuff is
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: obviously beneficial and part of the bigger picture. But I'm
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: more interested in this playoff picture that I wish I
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: could be more just objectively interested in if the Phillies
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: weren't in it. Unfortunately they're in it, So I am
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: horrifically biased. But you look at both leagues and they
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: each have six teams with at least seventy wins right now,
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: and then like three or four teams just outside of
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: that with varying degrees of projected contention. Granted, but that
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: being said, it was Jeff passing a couple weeks ago,
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: it was like, Hey, the hot teams, the best teams
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: that started really good all hit the brakes at the
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: All Star break. The Phillies faltered, the Dodgers faltered, The
- 1:12:22Speaker 4: Brewers kind of got hot, but they were behind everybody
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: else for a little while there, so they were making
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: up lost ground. The Yankees definitely hit the skids, the
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: Guardians blew a ten game lead, and the Astros have
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: been fighting their way out of a hole that they
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: put themselves in at the beginning of the season. You
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: have teams like the Orioles, Royals and Twins who are
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: all I thought that Al Central is just going to
- 1:12:41Speaker 4: be a knife fight to the end and the Orioles
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: are going to be grabbing at the Yankees heels and
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: vice versa for the rest of the season. And Jeff
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: Passen was like, Hey, this could be the first time
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: there's not a one hundred win team in baseball for
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: the last ten years, and that is a really interesting concept.
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: So that there isn't a a number one top tier
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: team might have been Atlanta if they hadn't lost all
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: of their starters, but they seem to be doing fine
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: at this point without them. I think that's a really
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: interesting component to the playoff picture. But I also think
- 1:13:09Speaker 4: it's not really in the Phillies favor. If you want
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: to be that hot team that takes down the top
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: seeds or the higher seeds, I don't know who that's
- 1:13:17Speaker 4: going to be this time, because there's a lot of
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: teams that are all like, let's be that hot team,
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: or setting themselves up to potentially be that hot team
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: should they get hot in September. Fortunately, we've seen the
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: Phillies start to win a little bit, so you know
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: they could certainly be that team. But I'll tell you what,
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Like I said, the hottest team right now is the
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: one they're about to play for four games, and it's
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: not the team you want to see winning a whole lot,
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: because boy, I just sure hate the Braves. So that's
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: what you got to watch out for, is the parody
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: of the playoff picture going in. Like, you got a
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: lot of even paced competition right now, and if we
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: get to a point where anybody could beat anybody, then
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: this whole advantage that we've been hoping the Phillies get
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: missing that first round really isn't going to matter as much.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: He's just and clue, folks, he's awesome. Love having him
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: on the show at justin underscore clue on the Twitter
