• 3:04
  Speaker 4: Cenator. You're in Washington, d C. I'm obviously in Houston.
• 3:08
  Speaker 4: This man.
• 3:08
Speaker 1: I get to do battle with the comedies on CNN.
• 3:11
Speaker 1: Often they've stopped putting us together. I think that's on purpose.
• 3:15
Speaker 1: I think they didn't like it was an unfair fight.
• 3:17
Speaker 1: When you have the brilliant brain of Scott and then
• 3:19
Speaker 1: you know I'm there as well. I'm not saying I'm brilliant,
• 3:21
Speaker 1: but I'm saying it's a nice duo here.
• 3:24
Speaker 4: But it's really fun.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: To have Scott Dinnings with us on the podcast where
• 3:29
Speaker 1: a really cool book he has put out.
• 3:30
Speaker 3: Well, Ben, I will say, you spent seven years battling
• 3:33
Speaker 3: the comedies on CNN and then I love you man,
• 3:36
Speaker 3: But you ran scared for the hills. Ah.
• 3:39
Speaker 4: You came to the.
• 3:40
Speaker 3: Safe confines of the Verdict podcast swhere. Other than some
• 3:45
Speaker 3: ridicule about old miss and you used to have a
• 3:47
Speaker 3: football coach. Other than that, you avoid any confrontation.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Yes, outside of that, I'm Switzerland, as you put it, sir,
• 3:57
  Speaker 1: in Republican primaries.
• 3:59
Speaker 3: So and I will say Scott Jennings has joined us.
• 4:03
Speaker 3: I got to tell you Scott is on CNN now.
• 4:06
Speaker 3: He is battling with these Bolshevik idiots and I actually
• 4:12
Speaker 3: feel bad for them because like he is beating the
• 4:17
Speaker 3: living crack out of them, and I watch I watch
• 4:22
Speaker 3: the clips on Twitter. I'll confess I do not watch CNN,
• 4:26
Speaker 3: so it's got to go viral for me to watch it.
• 4:28
Speaker 3: If it's actually on TV, I won't turn the damn
• 4:30
Speaker 3: thing on. But if you have a moment that is
• 4:33
Speaker 3: ninety seconds that you're just like body slamming someone I
• 4:38
Speaker 3: inject it like heroin into my veins. I mean, it
• 4:41
Speaker 3: is so all right. And let's be clear. Why is
• 4:45
Speaker 3: Scott here. He is here for the oldest reason in
• 4:47
Speaker 3: the book. So it is eleven forty three at night.
• 4:50
Speaker 3: This poor man has to get up at four in
• 4:52
Speaker 3: the morning to fly on a plane to La correct.
• 4:54
Speaker 3: He is here for one reason only. It's not that
• 4:57
Speaker 3: he loves me. It's not that he loves Ben Ferguson.
• 5:00
Speaker 3: Here because he is selling a damn book.
• 5:02
  Speaker 4: So it's a good one.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: It's a good So his book is a revolution of
• 5:06
Speaker 3: common sense, how Donald Trump stormed Washington and fought for
• 5:10
Speaker 3: Western civilization. And there's a great picture of Donald Trump
• 5:12
Speaker 3: and a bright red tie. So go buy his book.
• 5:15
Speaker 3: His book is on Amazon, It's on Barnes and Noble.
• 5:17
Speaker 3: I feel confident you can get it. And any place
• 5:19
Speaker 3: books are sold, yes, sir, other than a lefty bookstore
• 5:22
Speaker 3: in Cambridge, Massachusetts, they will not have this book, but
• 5:26
Speaker 3: they will have how to be a transgender Witch and
• 5:30
Speaker 3: study Marxism. So if you want that book, go to
• 5:33
Speaker 3: that bookstore. But anywhere else you can get a revolution
• 5:36
Speaker 3: and common sense. Scott, Welcome to Verdict.
• 5:38
Speaker 5: Thanks for having me on, and it's a true story
• 5:41
Speaker 5: about the bookstores. We've been setting up book tour events
• 5:43
Speaker 5: around the country, so we'll call ahead and say, oh,
• 5:45
Speaker 5: these people want to buy you a couple hundred books,
• 5:47
Speaker 5: and we've been hung up on We've been told no.
• 5:51
Speaker 5: I mean, I'm like literally trying to filter, you know,
• 5:54
Speaker 5: book purchases through your.
• 5:55
Speaker 2: Bookstore, and they literally won't do it.
• 5:57
Speaker 5: And so we talk about these lefties constantly complaining about
• 6:02
  Speaker 5: banning books.
• 6:02
Speaker 2: The only one I ever.
• 6:03
Speaker 3: Heard of was this one.
• 6:05
Speaker 2: It would carry it, all right.
• 6:06
Speaker 3: So how did you come? How did you start to be?
• 6:09
Speaker 3: And Sea tell us the start of how this began.
• 6:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, I've actually been there for eight and a half years,
• 6:14
Speaker 5: but for the first six years of it or so,
• 6:16
Speaker 5: it was really very much a part time job for me.
• 6:19
Speaker 5: I got recruited in twenty seventeen. I had done some
• 6:22
Speaker 5: work on Fox News in the election in twenty sixteen.
• 6:25
Speaker 5: They recruited me over because after Trump won and they
• 6:28
Speaker 5: didn't expect it, they didn't have many conservatives been was there,
• 6:31
Speaker 5: he knows, and so they were looking for a few
• 6:33
Speaker 5: people who could explain what was going on, and so
• 6:36
Speaker 5: I did it. It was very part time. But then in
• 6:38
Speaker 5: the twenty twenty four election and the advent of this
• 6:43
Speaker 5: debating show, it's become a much bigger part of my life.
• 6:46
Speaker 2: So I've been a long time.
• 6:47
Speaker 5: Member of the family, but lately it's taken up a
• 6:50
Speaker 5: big percentage of my life.
• 6:51
Speaker 1: Scott, I want to ask you real quick about this book.
• 6:55
Speaker 1: And the cool part about this book is a lot
• 6:57
Speaker 1: of people write books, but one of the things is
• 6:59
Speaker 1: you actually talked to the White House the President about
• 7:03
Speaker 1: writing the book and them cooperating with you to do
• 7:06
  Speaker 1: this book.
• 7:07
Speaker 4: How did that come about?
• 7:09
Speaker 1: Who did you get to sit with How often did
• 7:11
Speaker 1: you get talk to the President to come up with
• 7:13
Speaker 1: all of the material in it?
• 7:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, I went to see him in February. You know
• 7:16
Speaker 5: this title, a revolution of common Sense is a phrase
• 7:18
Speaker 5: that he used in his inaugural address. I was sitting
• 7:21
Speaker 5: on the set at CNN listening to the speech, thinking
• 7:24
Speaker 5: that would be a good title for a book, and
• 7:25
Speaker 5: so I went to pitch a president on it. Truthfully,
• 7:27
Speaker 5: I didn't really know him. I talked about him a lot,
• 7:30
Speaker 5: but it hadn't spent any time with him. So I
• 7:31
Speaker 5: went to meet with him in early February and thought
• 7:34
Speaker 5: I was meeting with him alone. I went into the
• 7:35
Speaker 5: Oval office, and the whole cabinet and the staff were there,
• 7:39
Speaker 5: so I sort of got inserted into one of these
• 7:41
Speaker 5: famous meetings where it's like six meetings at the same time,
• 7:45
Speaker 5: and we spent some time together. And I just told
• 7:47
Speaker 5: him that day, like, I think one hundred of the
• 7:49
Speaker 5: usual suspects are going to come along and write books
• 7:51
Speaker 5: crapping on you. I think someone who likes you and
• 7:54
Speaker 5: voted for you and wants you to succeed, should, you know,
• 7:57
Speaker 5: get a chance to cooperate with you about a book
• 7:59
Speaker 5: about what you're trying to accomplish here and the obstacles
• 8:01
Speaker 5: that you face. I told him, I thought he revolutionized
• 8:03
Speaker 5: campaigning in twenty twenty four, and he was about to
• 8:05
Speaker 5: revolutionize governing, and that it would be a good opportunity
• 8:09
Speaker 5: to tell the story to you know, half or a
• 8:11
Speaker 5: little more than half the country that doesn't get that
• 8:14
Speaker 5: much good news or you know, true narrative about what's
• 8:17
Speaker 5: going on out of his White House.
• 8:19
Speaker 2: And so we discussed it. He agreed.
• 8:21
Speaker 5: I spent some time with him a few meetings over
• 8:25
Speaker 5: the course of the spring. I traveled with him to
• 8:26
Speaker 5: Michigan on his one hundred day in office. I interviewed
• 8:30
Speaker 5: most of the cabinet, interviewed quite a bit of the
• 8:31
Speaker 5: White House senior staff, and you know, some of the
• 8:34
Speaker 5: book is also just my observations. I picked out the
• 8:36
Speaker 5: issues that I thought were the biggest ticket issues of
• 8:39
Speaker 5: the first hundred days, and some of it's also informed
• 8:42
Speaker 5: by the debates that I was having on CNN.
• 8:44
Speaker 3: I was, so, what are the biggest ticket issues from
• 8:46
Speaker 3: the first hundred days.
• 8:47
Speaker 5: Well, at number one, I thought the volume of executive
• 8:49
Speaker 5: orders made his presidency the most active presidency since FDR.
• 8:54
Speaker 2: To immigration is a big issue in this book.
• 8:57
Speaker 3: At a massive success.
• 8:58
Speaker 2: And probably his biggest success, and it's the biggest promise.
• 9:01
Speaker 3: Kept ninety nine percent decrease. I mean, that's insane, it's crazy.
• 9:04
Speaker 2: We have passed any new laws.
• 9:05
Speaker 5: As you know, We've just got a new enforcement mechanism
• 9:08
Speaker 5: called the President. And then also energy frankly, and the
• 9:14
Speaker 5: book kind of ends where they're getting to passing the
• 9:16
Speaker 5: big beautiful bill and the energy piece and sort of
• 9:20
Speaker 5: how that's going to impact the race to win the
• 9:23
Speaker 5: AI competition against China. Also, frankly, some of the cultural
• 9:28
Speaker 5: issues that he took on transgender issues, the DEI stuff.
• 9:32
Speaker 5: I mean, these are not inconsequential matters because not only
• 9:35
Speaker 5: did he sort of rip them out of government, but
• 9:37
Speaker 5: it created a permission structure to rip them out of
• 9:39
Speaker 5: corporate America. Yes, even just today, I think I saw
• 9:42
Speaker 5: AT and T get rid of their DEI stuff finally,
• 9:45
Speaker 5: and so the world's changed. It was an amalgam of policy, political,
• 9:50
Speaker 5: and cultural issues, and he put a lot of balls
• 9:52
Speaker 5: in the air. A lot went through the net, some
• 9:54
Speaker 5: are still laying out there. But what I came away
• 9:57
Speaker 5: with was this that when you become a Republican president,
• 10:00
Speaker 5: you have entrenched things that are working to destroy You
• 10:03
Speaker 5: have media that's trying to destroy you, bureaucraft's trying to
• 10:05
Speaker 5: destroy you, you have federal judiciary trying to destroy you.
• 10:13
Speaker 5: And they're all sort of worked together to overwhelm you.
• 10:16
Speaker 5: And he basically just decided, I'm not going to be overwhelmed.
• 10:19
Speaker 5: I'm going to overwhelm them.
• 10:21
Speaker 2: That's the story of the book.
• 10:22
Speaker 3: So look, I think there are very real differences between
• 10:26
Speaker 3: first term President Trump and second term President Trump. What
• 10:29
Speaker 3: do you see is the biggest differences?
• 10:30
  Speaker 2: Totally agree.
• 10:31
Speaker 5: Spending time observing him with the team, he got the
• 10:34
Speaker 5: team that matches his leadership style.
• 10:36
  Speaker 3: Yep.
• 10:37
Speaker 5: First time around, not sure they expected to win, sort
• 10:40
Speaker 5: of inherited, you know.
• 10:41
Speaker 3: The first time. I think they were kind of the
• 10:43
Speaker 3: dog that caught the car. They were like, holy crap,
• 10:45
Speaker 3: we won. And I'll confess that there were some mistakes
• 10:50
Speaker 3: in terms of the early appointments that were people that
• 10:52
Speaker 3: were put in the administration the first term who worked
• 10:55
Speaker 3: against the president. And I think he regrets making those
• 10:57
Speaker 3: appointments this. I think the second term is much better.
• 11:00
  Speaker 3: It's a much stronger team.
• 11:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, and they know how to work with him. They
• 11:04
Speaker 5: know that they're there to execute his agenda, not their own, yep.
• 11:08
Speaker 5: And they also understand the hands on nature of it.
• 11:10
Speaker 5: What I witnessed in the Oval office with him is
• 11:13
Speaker 5: this is not a passive sort of situation. This is
• 11:16
Speaker 5: him telling them, go do this and come back to
• 11:18
Speaker 5: me and report. One of the cabinet secretaries said to me,
• 11:21
Speaker 5: you can tell the President we're working on it one time,
• 11:24
Speaker 5: but you don't get a second bite at that out.
• 11:26
Speaker 5: He expects you to go do it and come back
• 11:28
Speaker 5: and tell him what's happened and give your progress report.
• 11:32
Speaker 5: I witnessed that, and so this time around. They thought
• 11:34
Speaker 5: they were going to win. They knew who they wanted
• 11:36
Speaker 5: to do a point, they knew the issues they wanted
• 11:38
  Speaker 5: to attend.
• 11:38
Speaker 3: And they had spent four years thinking about exactly what
• 11:41
Speaker 3: they wanted to hit, and so they hit the ground
• 11:42
Speaker 3: running with a speed. I mean, there is literally no
• 11:46
Speaker 3: precedent in American history for a president that has moved
• 11:49
Speaker 3: so fast, so many executive orders, so many actions, and listen,
• 11:53
Speaker 3: the vast majority I agree with are a couple of
• 11:56
Speaker 3: missteps that I think occurred. But you know what, I
• 11:58
Speaker 3: would describe this as a bias towards action versus a
• 12:03
Speaker 3: bias towards it action. And I'll take action. If you're
• 12:06
Speaker 3: moving fast, you make a few things. But they are
• 12:09
Speaker 3: moving And it's I joke, but it's actually the truth.
• 12:13
Speaker 3: I wake up every morning, I grab my cel phone
• 12:14
Speaker 3: and I'm like, what the hell did we do today? Yeah?
• 12:17
Speaker 3: And it is, I mean, it is fast moving.
• 12:21
Speaker 2: And in the early days, in the.
• 12:23
Speaker 5: Early days of this, it had the effect of overwhelming
• 12:26
Speaker 5: the opposition. Yes, the Democrats really didn't know what hit
• 12:30
Speaker 5: them for the first several weeks of what he was doing.
• 12:33
Speaker 5: And one reporter told me that I interviewed she said,
• 12:36
Speaker 5: we don't know what to cover every day because.
• 12:37
Speaker 2: There's so much we don't know where to start. That
• 12:40
  Speaker 2: was the point.
• 12:40
Speaker 5: He overwhelmed the forces that normally try to engulf and
• 12:45
Speaker 5: suck under any Republican administration.
• 12:48
Speaker 3: So you and I met twenty five years ago when
• 12:53
Speaker 3: we were both young staffers and the George W. Bush administration.
• 12:56
Speaker 3: You were in the White House, and we've known each
• 12:57
Speaker 3: other a long time. And I actually came up with
• 13:00
Speaker 3: this theory then, which is there is a quantum of
• 13:03
Speaker 3: outrage in the media, and I call it the arsenic quantum.
• 13:08
Speaker 3: So if you remember, in two thousand and one, George W.
• 13:10
Speaker 3: Bush becomes president and one of the first things that
• 13:13
Speaker 3: happens is the EPA repeals a rule from the Democrat
• 13:19
Speaker 3: administration concerning the percentage of arsenic that could be at
• 13:22
Speaker 3: a water and it went from I don't know, like
• 13:26
Speaker 3: four million parts per gallon or whatever it was to
• 13:31
Speaker 3: five million parts per gallon. I mean, it was an
• 13:34
Speaker 3: infinitesimal shift, but the media lost their ever loving mind,
• 13:39
Speaker 3: and for about three months, every media story was George W.
• 13:43
Speaker 3: Bush wants to put arsenic in your water to poison
• 13:45
Speaker 3: your kids, and I mean their hair was on fire.
• 13:48
Speaker 3: They were losing their minds. And I think one of
• 13:50
Speaker 3: the things that the tru President Trump has understood, particularly
• 13:53
Speaker 3: the second term, that's all the outrage there is. So
• 13:58
Speaker 3: if you do one hundred things and a hundred things
• 14:01
Speaker 3: that are incredibly consequential, you get the arsenic quantum of outrage.
• 14:05
Speaker 3: They're still they scream, but they don't know what to
• 14:08
Speaker 3: hit because they're moving so fast on so many fronts.
• 14:11
Speaker 3: They're repealing regulations, they're implementing policies that the media are
• 14:17
Speaker 3: just frustrated out of their mind. You're living on CNN.
• 14:20
Speaker 3: Do you see that on a daily basis?
• 14:22
Speaker 5: Yes, I mean every day you're going to get some
• 14:24
Speaker 5: outrage about some I mean today, the guy had a
• 14:27
Speaker 5: three hour cabinet meeting.
• 14:28
  Speaker 3: YEP.
• 14:29
Speaker 5: So I showed up over there this afternoon and for
• 14:31
Speaker 5: like six seconds of the three hours, he closed his
• 14:33
Speaker 5: eyes listening to Marco Rubio talk about something. And they're like, oh,
• 14:38
Speaker 5: Donald Trump slept through a cabinet meeting. He literally conducted
• 14:41
Speaker 5: a three hour meeting. He held a press conference at
• 14:44
Speaker 5: the end of it.
• 14:45
  Speaker 2: This is crazy.
• 14:46
Speaker 5: And so yes, they have to pick something and try
• 14:49
Speaker 5: to generate outrage, whether it's warranted or not. I will
• 14:53
Speaker 5: tell you I think in this book and my recollections
• 14:56
Speaker 5: of the first part of the year, the outrage was
• 14:58
Speaker 5: almost all directed towards these immigrats stories. Yeah, particularly the
• 15:01
Speaker 5: Kilmer Obrego Garcia case.
• 15:03
  Speaker 2: And that's so.
• 15:05
Speaker 3: Tell me, do you think it is a good political
• 15:08
Speaker 3: judgment for Democrats to say our party wants more illegal alien,
• 15:15
Speaker 3: violent gang member, wife abusing human trafficking criminals in America,
• 15:21
Speaker 3: and if you elect us, the Democrats, we will bring
• 15:24
Speaker 3: MS thirteen to your neighborhood. Like, help me explain, Help
• 15:30
Speaker 3: me understand the reasoning behind a party that says, let's
• 15:36
Speaker 3: go have dakeries with MS thirteen gang bangers and say
• 15:40
Speaker 3: we're for bringing them into your community.
• 15:43
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 15:43
Speaker 5: I'm only moderately good at math. But no, I don't
• 15:46
Speaker 5: think that is a great political strategy. But you know,
• 15:48
Speaker 5: I also think they're doing it again on this narco
• 15:51
Speaker 5: terrorist issue. I mean, you've got people out here, you know,
• 15:55
Speaker 5: buying into the idea that these poor Venezuelan fishermen, you know,
• 15:58
Speaker 5: have fallen under the gaze of Don Trump.
• 16:00
Speaker 3: You look at the loud style fasherman. Fisherman don't have
• 16:03
  Speaker 3: twelve kilos of.
• 16:04
Speaker 5: Coke in their boat and then you know, on top
• 16:08
Speaker 5: of that sort of basically.
• 16:09
Speaker 3: Maybe it's one hundred kilos of coke. I don't even
• 16:11
Speaker 3: know how much they have, but it ain't good.
• 16:13
Speaker 5: And also threatening these I mean essentially that like Mark
• 16:16
Speaker 5: Kelly and others are saying, now, look, if you follow
• 16:20
Speaker 5: the president's orders, we may come back to you in
• 16:22
Speaker 5: a few years and retroactively decide that you broke the law,
• 16:26
Speaker 5: and we will come after you if you help the
• 16:28
Speaker 5: president serve as the legitimately elected commander in chief. I mean,
• 16:31
Speaker 5: that's what they're It's all about throwing sand in the gears,
• 16:34
Speaker 5: shut down the government to keep him from operating, get
• 16:37
Speaker 5: military people to stop obeying orders, to keep him from
• 16:39
Speaker 5: operating his commander in chief. That's the outrage that is
• 16:44
Speaker 5: coming out of their base. It's it's the demand, like
• 16:47
Speaker 5: you must stop him because we still don't give him
• 16:50
  Speaker 5: as legitimate.
• 16:51
Speaker 3: They're the party of hate, Like the unifying theme of
• 16:54
Speaker 3: the Democrat Party is they hate, hate, hate Donald J. Trump,
• 16:58
Speaker 3: and and it's performance theater each one of them. The
• 17:01
Speaker 3: shutdown happened because Chuck Schumer and the Democrats had to
• 17:04
Speaker 3: show they hate him, Yes, and it is. Listen, I've
• 17:07
Speaker 3: been in the Senate thirteen years. This is the stupidest
• 17:11
Speaker 3: shutdown I've ever seen because it had no objective other
• 17:15
Speaker 3: than simply demonstrating we hate Trump. And look you see
• 17:22
Speaker 3: it on CNN. I mean, I mean, I actually really
• 17:25
Speaker 3: like your book, A Revolution of common Sense. You know
• 17:29
Speaker 3: it used to be all right, So there's a very
• 17:31
Speaker 3: common As you talk to people just across the country,
• 17:33
Speaker 3: there are a lot of folks that will say both
• 17:37
Speaker 3: parties have gotten to extreme, and that sounds very reasonable.
• 17:41
Speaker 3: Like if you're sitting around at the dinner table and
• 17:43
Speaker 3: you say that, that makes you seem very reasoned, very moderate.
• 17:47
Speaker 3: And I'll say to folks like, look, I get why
• 17:49
Speaker 3: you're saying that. That feels like it makes sense. I
• 17:53
  Speaker 3: just don't think it's true.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: I agree with you.
• 17:54
Speaker 3: And if you look at the two parties, one part
• 17:57
Speaker 3: of the Democrat Party has gone backcrap crazy. I mean
• 18:00
Speaker 3: they've embraced policies complete open borders, embracing human traffickers and
• 18:05
Speaker 3: narco terrorists, abolishing the police, boys and girls, sports mutilizing
• 18:12
Speaker 3: little boys and little girls like these are extreme rat
• 18:17
Speaker 3: embracing hamas, celebrating anti Semitic protesters, Like, it's almost like
• 18:22
Speaker 3: every issue that's eighty twenty. Yes, they went across the
• 18:25
Speaker 3: bard and said, let's take the twenty. Let's take the twenty.
• 18:27
Speaker 3: Sometimes it's ninety ten.
• 18:28
Speaker 2: And why because Trump's on the eighty.
• 18:31
Speaker 3: And if you look at the other side, and I'll
• 18:34
Speaker 3: say to people over dinner, I'll say, look, what are
• 18:39
Speaker 3: Trump's policy positions? Secure the border, cut taxes, cut job
• 18:45
Speaker 3: killing regulations, support small businesses, support the police, protect our families,
• 18:49
Speaker 3: support the constitution, and the Bill of.
• 18:51
  Speaker 2: Rights, welfare reform.
• 18:53
Speaker 3: Like those are mainstream, middle of the road positions. Those
• 18:57
Speaker 3: are not crazy right wing positions. Those are common sense.
• 19:01
Speaker 3: And what's amazing is the Democrats have abandoned the middle
• 19:05
Speaker 3: of the of the field. They've abandoned the middle ground. Now,
• 19:11
Speaker 3: sometimes the rhetoric is a little hot, so the sort
• 19:14
Speaker 3: of both sides are two extreme. I do wish occasionally
• 19:17
Speaker 3: the rhetoric would ratchet back a little bit, but the
• 19:20
Speaker 3: actual substance of the policies, and I got to say,
• 19:24
Speaker 3: even when I'm sitting down with lefties that they don't
• 19:26
Speaker 3: have a good response, like what policies is Trump implementing
• 19:30
Speaker 3: that are extreme? Well, he's deporting illegal aliens, you know,
• 19:33
Speaker 3: you mean like Barack Obama, who deported millions of illegal aliens.
• 19:36
Speaker 3: Like he's actually going and arresting murderers and rapists and
• 19:41
Speaker 3: child molesters and gang mayors. That ain't extreme. So my
• 19:45
Speaker 3: question to you, number one, do you agree with that?
• 19:48
Speaker 3: And since you've been nodding emphatically, I kind of assumed
• 19:50
Speaker 3: that the answers yes, But I'm not nodding. Off you
• 19:54
Speaker 3: close your eyes for a second. And by the way,
• 19:57
Speaker 3: I have that effect a lot. I put people to sleep,
• 19:59
Speaker 3: So feel free to not off. But if you agree,
• 20:03
Speaker 3: here's my real question why, Like, if you're imagine for
• 20:09
Speaker 3: a second you're in the ninth circle of Dante's Inferno
• 20:12
Speaker 3: and you are Chuck Schumer's chief political advisor, why would
• 20:16
Speaker 3: you do this? Like, what's the reasoning that? Presumably they
• 20:21
Speaker 3: think this makes sense? So what would what would a
• 20:24
Speaker 3: Democrat strategist say that would justify this.
• 20:29
Speaker 5: Well, it's very simple fear, and they operate out of fear.
• 20:31
Speaker 5: I mean during the shutdown, which you're exactly right, this
• 20:34
Speaker 5: was the most pointless exercise. One of your colleagues anonymously
• 20:37
Speaker 5: told a newspaper, Oh, we have plenty of votes to
• 20:40
Speaker 5: open the government, but none of us want to face
• 20:42
  Speaker 5: the guillotine.
• 20:43
Speaker 3: Their words, Yeah, their words.
• 20:45
Speaker 5: So they're using the language of the French Revolution to
• 20:47
Speaker 5: describe their own political base. They operate only out of fear,
• 20:51
Speaker 5: not principle, not ideas. It's strictly operating out of fear,
• 20:56
Speaker 5: and it's also strictly operating out of hate. I totally
• 20:59
Speaker 5: agree with you, and this this is something about the
• 21:01
Speaker 5: book that I've picked up on. If Trump has sort
• 21:03
Speaker 5: of an idea of like what the eighties are and
• 21:05
Speaker 5: he knows, they will reflexively pick the twenties because he
• 21:08
Speaker 5: picked the eighties. Whether it's secure the border or get
• 21:11
Speaker 5: rid of paper straws, either way, it's going to drive
• 21:15
Speaker 5: Democrats into a silly position. I, for one, want toilets
• 21:19
Speaker 5: that can't flush and don't have enough water to actually
• 21:21
Speaker 5: remove your your waist, like, like.
• 21:25
Speaker 1: Who the heck is that an eighty twenty or is
• 21:27
Speaker 1: that a ninety ten issue?
• 21:28
Speaker 3: That would be a ninety ten okay, that don't disintegrate
• 21:33
Speaker 3: in your mouth, Toilets that can remove your extrement, and
• 21:37
Speaker 3: like light bulbs that can turn on, like.
• 21:40
Speaker 5: There may be a dark niche corner of the Internet
• 21:43
Speaker 5: that takes the other side of the toilet issue. But
• 21:45
Speaker 5: most people, most people would like more water.
• 21:48
Speaker 1: For the next sixty seconds, Can you hit pause on
• 21:51
Speaker 1: your life and just think about this. Every day, millions
• 21:55
Speaker 1: of children face a crushing reality, a constant defeating message
• 21:59
Speaker 1: echoes and their empty stomachs and their desperate eyes. It
• 22:02
Speaker 1: is that you don't matter. Poverty doesn't just steal food
• 22:06
Speaker 1: and shelter. It steals hope, dignity, and the fundamental belief
• 22:09
Speaker 1: that they are loved. But there's another message, one of
• 22:12
Speaker 1: boundless love and hope. Through Compassion International, you can change
• 22:17
Speaker 1: the child's story forever. You can sponsor child just like

• 22:27
Speaker 1: to overcome poverty. This isn't just about one child. It's
• 22:31
Speaker 1: about transforming families, revitalizing communities and changing nations. It's about
• 22:36
Speaker 1: proving that every child truly matters. So help give a
• 22:40
Speaker 1: child a future, give them hope. Visit Compassion dot com today.
• 22:45
Speaker 1: That's Compassion dot com.
• 22:48
Speaker 4: Scott. I want to ask you your question.
• 22:51
Speaker 3: Quick as side hold on part of Verdict is bringing
• 22:53
Speaker 3: you inside the Senate. So I'm going to tell you
• 22:56
Speaker 3: a funny story. So when the Democrats, when Harry Reid
• 23:02
Speaker 3: had the majority, just off the Senate floor, there is
• 23:06
Speaker 3: a restroom that is the senator's restroom, and when the
• 23:09
Speaker 3: Democrats took over, they replaced the toilet paper with little
• 23:15
Speaker 3: square strips of Kleenex. And it was the most frustrating.
• 23:20
Speaker 3: I assume it's some lefty environmentalist idea that like a
• 23:23
Speaker 3: tiny little like four by four square is what you
• 23:25
Speaker 3: would pull off one at a time. And it was infuriating.
• 23:28
Speaker 3: And that's what the.
• 23:28
Speaker 1: Democrats are saving the environment, sir, You were saving the
• 23:31
Speaker 1: environment one square at a time.
• 23:32
  Speaker 2: Man.
• 23:33
Speaker 3: So when we retook the Senate in twenty fourteen, Richard
• 23:37
Speaker 3: Shelby became the chairman of the Rules Committee, Republican from Alabama.
• 23:42
Speaker 3: Richard is a good guy. It's good friend, and I'm
• 23:44
Speaker 3: on the rolls Committee. I came to Richard. I said, okay, Richard,
• 23:47
Speaker 3: I got a simple request, and could you put some
• 23:51
Speaker 3: friggin toilet paper in the restroom that actually works? And
• 23:55
Speaker 3: like two weeks later, I go to the restroom and
• 23:57
Speaker 3: there's a roll of toilet paper there, and I will confess.
• 24:01
Speaker 3: I went to Richard. I said, Richard, I've got your
• 24:04
Speaker 3: reelection campaign slogan. You need to make a bumper sticker
• 24:06
Speaker 3: right now, Richard Shelby, he gets shipped done.
• 24:12
Speaker 2: And I will confess.
• 24:13
Speaker 3: Even when Schumer took over, he did not return to
• 24:16
Speaker 3: the little squares of paper and it remains remains fixed
• 24:20
Speaker 3: to this day. But why is that complicated? And yet
• 24:24
Speaker 3: for the Democrats? Like, all right, is there any person
• 24:28
Speaker 3: on earth that does not hate a paper straw that
• 24:33
Speaker 3: disintegrates in your mouth and doesn't actually serve the function
• 24:37
Speaker 3: of taking the liquid in your cup?
• 24:39
Speaker 1: All right, So you're gonna as The only one I
• 24:41
Speaker 1: hate more than that is the bamboo straw that cracks
• 24:44
  Speaker 1: every single time.
• 24:46
Speaker 5: The paper straw story, which I tell in the book.
• 24:48
Speaker 5: Actually I was in the Oval office today he signed
• 24:50
  Speaker 5: the executive.
• 24:50
Speaker 2: Order on paper straws. It.
• 24:52
Speaker 5: It was something funny actually when I was in there,
• 24:56
Speaker 5: like some aid came in. He said, mister President, I
• 24:58
Speaker 5: just found out they're still using paper straws in the
• 25:00
  Speaker 5: White House.
• 25:01
Speaker 2: Mess He said something like, well, I guess they still
• 25:04
Speaker 2: had a few left over, you know, from Biden or whatever.
• 25:07
Speaker 5: But I tell the story of that paper straw because
• 25:09
Speaker 5: it's it's even more absurd than you think. Number One,
• 25:11
Speaker 5: they got the idea for paper straws because like a
• 25:15
Speaker 5: little kid gave a school report one day claiming that
• 25:18
Speaker 5: Americans were using like tens of millions of plastic straws
• 25:21
Speaker 5: and they were going in the ocean.
• 25:22
Speaker 2: It was completely fabricated.
• 25:24
Speaker 5: And then the other thing about paper straws is that
• 25:26
Speaker 5: they actually contain lots of these like chemicals and plastics
• 25:30
Speaker 5: in the paper straws that you ingest because they dissolve
• 25:33
Speaker 5: in the water. So it's terrible for you and it's
• 25:35
Speaker 5: terrible for the environment.
• 25:37
Speaker 3: I haven't heard that, but I can believe that.
• 25:38
  Speaker 2: Yes, and so.
• 25:39
Speaker 5: But because this kid one day in his like elementary school,
• 25:43
Speaker 5: gave some report about supposed plastic straws in the ocean,
• 25:46
Speaker 5: Democrats adopted this cause of banning plastic straws. And Donald Trump.
• 25:52
Speaker 5: It took Donald Trump winning an election to finally bring.
• 25:56
Speaker 3: Back all right, So let me ask you, it's amazing
• 25:58
Speaker 3: a decade from now now, what is going to be
• 26:02
Speaker 3: the legacy of Donald J. Trump. What are people going
• 26:04
Speaker 3: to remember from the Trump presidency?
• 26:07
Speaker 5: Broad macro foreign policy wins, bringing peace to all the
• 26:13
Speaker 5: corners of planet Earth. I think he has been the
• 26:15
Speaker 5: most consequential foreign policy.
• 26:17
Speaker 3: So why what has But I agree with you, But
• 26:20
Speaker 3: what has been consequential? What has mattered?
• 26:23
Speaker 5: Well, what has mattered is you now have a strong
• 26:26
Speaker 5: American president who's willing to engage. I mean, this was
• 26:28
Speaker 5: the great failing of Biden. He was weak, and he
• 26:31
Speaker 5: was indecisive, and he didn't fundamentally believe in engagement. And
• 26:37
Speaker 5: they didn't trust him. The other players on the board
• 26:39
Speaker 5: didn't trust him, and they didn't really care what he
• 26:42
Speaker 5: had to say, and so he weren't afraid of him. Yeah,
• 26:44
Speaker 5: and that's a dangerous thing. I think our enemies should
• 26:47
Speaker 5: be afraid of the commander in chief. And I will
• 26:49
  Speaker 5: tell you.
• 26:50
Speaker 3: I talk with our allies, I talk with with our adversaries,
• 26:54
Speaker 3: and our enemies are afraid of Donald J. Trump. That's
• 27:00
Speaker 3: a good thing. I want Iran afraid of Trump. I
• 27:04
Speaker 3: want North Korea afraid of Trump. I want Venezuela afraid
• 27:06
Speaker 3: of Trump. I want Cuba afraid of Trump. I want
• 27:09
Speaker 3: China afraid of Trump. And look, it goes back to
• 27:14
Speaker 3: when Reagan was president. The philosophy of peace through strength,
• 27:17
Speaker 3: that is what Trump is implementing. And I will say
• 27:20
Speaker 3: there's a debate in our policy, in our party. There
• 27:24
Speaker 3: are some who are arguing, oh, Trump is an isolationist.
• 27:27
Speaker 3: He's never been an isolation never. He's not interested in
• 27:30
Speaker 3: extending in unnecessary foreign wars. And I agree with him
• 27:34
Speaker 3: in that, and he has been ending wars, which is
• 27:37
Speaker 3: the right thing. But look, he stands up to our
• 27:41
Speaker 3: enemies in one of the great faults. Both the isolationists
• 27:46
Speaker 3: left and the isolationists right believes that if you don't
• 27:50
Speaker 3: engage with your enemies, it will produce peace. History stands
• 27:55
Speaker 3: to the contrary. I pointed out there's a reason nobody
• 27:58
Speaker 3: studies at the Nevill Chamberlain School of Foreign fiew like
• 28:00
Speaker 3: appeasement doesn't work. And if you want to avoid war,
• 28:04
Speaker 3: the best way to do it is to be so
• 28:07
Speaker 3: strong that your enemies are terrified as screwing with you.
• 28:10
Speaker 3: And Trump is doing a fabulous job of doing that.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: And the difference between Biden and Trump is weakness versus strength,
• 28:17
Speaker 3: and weakness produces war and strength produces peace.
• 28:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this will be an enduring legacy for him.
• 28:22
Speaker 5: And you know, we talk about war and peace a lot,
• 28:24
Speaker 5: and that's the phrase we may just talk about peace
• 28:27
Speaker 5: and war because he is a peace president, yes, and
• 28:30
Speaker 5: he's for smart engagement, but he's not for adventurism.
• 28:32
Speaker 2: I think that's one. Number two.
• 28:34
Speaker 5: I mean, clearly he showed us how to enforce current
• 28:37
Speaker 5: immigration laws. That's a legacy. And number three, I think
• 28:40
Speaker 5: what they're doing on AI actually putting the United States
• 28:44
Speaker 5: in the position to win the AI race, to produce
• 28:47
Speaker 5: enough energy to win it. That is going to be
• 28:50
Speaker 5: talked about ten, fifteen, twenty years from today. Did we
• 28:52
Speaker 5: do what we had to do to defeat China? I
• 28:54
Speaker 5: think we are. I think most of our tech companies
• 28:56
Speaker 5: think we are. And so if that comes to pass,
• 28:59
Speaker 5: those are three pretty great legacies.
• 29:01
Speaker 3: So let's talk about the third one for a second.
• 29:03
Speaker 3: So on AI. AI is an issue I care about
• 29:06
Speaker 3: a lot, and I agree with you that we are
• 29:08
Speaker 3: in a race. AI is coming and either the United
• 29:11
Speaker 3: States is gonna win or China's gonna win. And I
• 29:13
Speaker 3: think the world is much much worse off if China wins,
• 29:16
Speaker 3: and it's much better off of America wins. I will
• 29:19
Speaker 3: tell you the polling on AI is terrible. AI is
• 29:24
Speaker 3: unpopular in America. If you do almost any polling. I
• 29:27
Speaker 3: use it's about seventy thirty. People are terrified. They're afraid
• 29:31
Speaker 3: they're going to lose their jobs. They don't trust it,
• 29:33
Speaker 3: they're scared of it. And I get that, And in fact,
• 29:36
Speaker 3: I talk with a lot of the tech leaders and
• 29:38
Speaker 3: I say, look, if you don't engage on this issue,
• 29:41
Speaker 3: the easy political outcome. Every Democrat and a number of
• 29:44
Speaker 3: Republicans are like, AI is horrible, We oppose it, and
• 29:48
Speaker 3: that if you look at the polling, that's that's the
• 29:51
Speaker 3: knee jerk response. I get that fear. I understand anytime
• 29:58
Speaker 3: you have economic disloke, it is frightening, it is dangerous.
• 30:04
Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, I'm not a lot.
• 30:05
Speaker 3: I don't think you can stop technological advancement. I'll give
• 30:09
Speaker 3: you an example. If I could right now destroy every
• 30:12
Speaker 3: cell phone in America, I would. I think these are
• 30:15
Speaker 3: evil portals to everything harmful in the world. All three
• 30:19
Speaker 3: of us are parents. These things invite every horrible force
• 30:24
Speaker 3: to our children. But we don't live in that world.
• 30:27
Speaker 3: We can't end that. I'd also like a world with
• 30:29
Speaker 3: no nuclear weapons. Like if I could push a button
• 30:31
Speaker 3: and every nuclear weapon disappear, I would, But we don't
• 30:34
Speaker 3: live in that world. And if we're going to live
• 30:36
Speaker 3: in a world with nuclear weapons, I sure want to
• 30:38
Speaker 3: make sure the United States has enough that China and Russian,
• 30:41
Speaker 3: our enemies, can't dominate US. I view AI in the
• 30:43
Speaker 3: same world, even if you don't want it to happen.
• 30:46
Speaker 3: It is coming, and one of two outcomes will occur
• 30:51
Speaker 3: in five to ten years. Either China will have won
• 30:55
Speaker 3: the race, in which case AI worldwide will reflect China's
• 30:58
Speaker 3: values will be totalitarian, controlling will be censoring, will reflect
• 31:02
Speaker 3: the values of communists China, or America will have one,
• 31:06
Speaker 3: in which case, hopefully AI will reflect American values of freedom,
• 31:10
Speaker 3: free enterprise, free speech. That is a massive shift between
• 31:14
Speaker 3: those two worlds. World two is much better, where America wins.
• 31:19
Speaker 3: Two questions. Number one, do you agree with that? And
• 31:23
Speaker 3: number two? If so, how does the politics change? Do
• 31:28
Speaker 3: you agree with my point that right now the politics
• 31:30
Speaker 3: is against AI and that is dangerous?
• 31:34
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 31:35
  Speaker 3: I agree.
• 31:36
Speaker 5: First of all on point one. I agree with everything
• 31:37
Speaker 5: you said about which world we want to live in.
• 31:39
Speaker 5: Number two, I agree with you on the polling, and
• 31:42
Speaker 5: I think people have a healthier fear of how this
• 31:44
Speaker 5: is going to upend their life and reasonable and which
• 31:48
Speaker 5: is a reasonable fear? And so the next iteration of
• 31:50
Speaker 5: this march towards AI is going to have to be
• 31:54
Speaker 5: not how it's going to make your life worse?
• 31:55
Speaker 2: How's it going to make your life better?
• 31:57
Speaker 5: How is any other technological evolution all stimately made your
• 32:00
Speaker 5: life better? And so that explanation has to come. And
• 32:04
Speaker 5: then point four is just going to be how are
• 32:06
Speaker 5: we going to power it all? And you know, are
• 32:08
Speaker 5: we going to be able to produce enough energy to
• 32:10
Speaker 5: do what we have to do now?
• 32:11
  Speaker 2: Plus what we.
• 32:12
Speaker 3: Have to do AI is energy, and if we don't
• 32:15
Speaker 3: not leash energy, we cannot win the race FRAEI.
• 32:17
Speaker 5: One other issue on this that is on my mind
• 32:19
Speaker 5: is how are we going to build enough of these
• 32:21
Speaker 5: data centers to win this thing? I'm noticing in local
• 32:25
Speaker 5: communities in a lot of places, folks are like rising
• 32:28
Speaker 5: up against data center development.
• 32:30
Speaker 3: So the polling is terrible in most communities. But I
• 32:32
Speaker 3: will say, by the way, one of the few exceptions
• 32:34
Speaker 3: is sort of West Texas. You've got West Texas in
• 32:36
Speaker 3: the Panhandle and you're seeing a ton of data centers
• 32:38
Speaker 3: come in there, and Texans are like, all right, we
• 32:41
Speaker 3: want jobs, we want investment. We want billions in investment,
• 32:44
Speaker 3: and there'll be jobs for construction, there'll be jobs for
• 32:46
Speaker 3: running the data centers. Look, I think in dense urban
• 32:50
Speaker 3: areas people are afraid. They're afraid it will suck power,
• 32:53
Speaker 3: it will drive up their electricity prices, it will suck water,
• 32:56
Speaker 3: And I get those fears. Look, anyone, if you're given
• 33:00
Speaker 3: a choice, do you want something that will make your
• 33:02
Speaker 3: life worse or better? People are naturally going to say,
• 33:05
Speaker 3: I don't want something that makes my life worse. And so.
• 33:09
Speaker 1: I think the guy by the way, Sentata, I had
• 33:11
Speaker 1: a guy the other day that said to me in
• 33:12
Speaker 1: the AI industry, he said, the hardest part for them
• 33:15
Speaker 1: now is overcoming what you're describing, because he said they're
• 33:18
Speaker 1: polling that internally says that the fear and a lot
• 33:22
Speaker 1: of parts of the country right now are at the
• 33:24
Speaker 1: level of where they were with nuclear reactors back in
• 33:27
  Speaker 1: the eighties.
• 33:28
Speaker 3: Yes, interesting now, and there's been a lot of demagoguay
• 33:32
Speaker 3: and but there's also the demagoguery is there. But I
• 33:36
Speaker 3: will say the fears of AI are real and justified.
• 33:40
Speaker 3: And all right, Look, with every great technological change, there's
• 33:45
Speaker 3: been economic dislocation. So when the automobile was invented, the
• 33:49
Speaker 3: horse and buggy industry was decimated, and if you were
• 33:52
Speaker 3: in the buggy business, you were screwed. The difference with
• 33:58
Speaker 3: AI is twofold. Number One, the volume is greater. I
• 34:01
Speaker 3: think there are going to be more jobs that are
• 34:04
Speaker 3: going to be threatened by AI than have been in
• 34:07
Speaker 3: previous technological innovations. Number two, it's a different contour of jobs.
• 34:14
Speaker 3: So often in the past it's been blue collar jobs
• 34:17
Speaker 3: that have been at risk. Many of the jobs that
• 34:19
Speaker 3: are at risk with AI are white collar jobs. There
• 34:23
Speaker 3: if you look at Mondami, part of what elected Mandami
• 34:26
Speaker 3: is you have young college graduates who have two hundred
• 34:31
Speaker 3: thousand dollars in college debt who were told I can
• 34:35
Speaker 3: go and be an investment banker, a consultant, or an accountant,
• 34:38
Speaker 3: and they're seeing those jobs being eliminated as AI is
• 34:42
Speaker 3: replacing thousands and thousands of those jobs. That's a level
• 34:47
Speaker 3: of I guess I would call elite discontent that is
• 34:54
Speaker 3: politically complicated and so and I get those concerns are
• 35:00
Speaker 3: very real. If you've gone and worked hard, and you've
• 35:03
Speaker 3: got a degree, and you took out loans and you
• 35:05
Speaker 3: were told this is what I got to do, and
• 35:07
Speaker 3: then suddenly you come out and you can't get a job,
• 35:09
Speaker 3: you're pissed like. That's a very real concern. And so
• 35:13
Speaker 3: I actually think as policy makers, as people in an
• 35:17
Speaker 3: elected office, we need to have real solutions to that
• 35:20
Speaker 3: problem because that disc content is not illegitimate, but it
• 35:25
Speaker 3: is driving much of this resistance, and it's a very
• 35:28
  Speaker 3: real battle.
• 35:28
Speaker 5: We've got, well and you have now, for you know,
• 35:31
Speaker 5: many years, people teaching their children here's the course you
• 35:35
Speaker 5: got to get on. If you well in school, go
• 35:37
Speaker 5: to college, you can get one of these white collar jobs.
• 35:40
Speaker 5: And you know, for you know, a few generation we've
• 35:43
Speaker 5: been telling people this is the path. It may not
• 35:45
Speaker 5: be the path anymore. We're going to have to reorient
• 35:47
Speaker 5: how we're educating kids, what we're teaching them to do,
• 35:51
Speaker 5: What other skills can we teach them to do. I
• 35:53
Speaker 5: agree with you on the white collar versus blue collar issue.
• 35:56
Speaker 5: Also creatives, I mean I speaked out. I've seen Ai
• 36:01
Speaker 5: apps and a matter of seconds write songs that sounded
• 36:04
Speaker 5: like they had a whole team of musicians and writers
• 36:06
Speaker 5: over weeks putting them together in California, And it literally
• 36:10
Speaker 5: happened on my phone in a matter of seconds.
• 36:12
Speaker 3: By the way, I'll tell you in politics, it's interesting.
• 36:14
Speaker 3: I'll pull up AI and I'll ask something like, what
• 36:18
Speaker 3: has Cruz said on the following issue? And listen, I've
• 36:21
Speaker 3: been doing this a long time, so I don't remember
• 36:23
Speaker 3: every comment I've given in every newspaper interview ten years ago,
• 36:26
Speaker 3: and in like four seconds it comes out with he
• 36:29
Speaker 3: said this here, he said this here, and it like
• 36:31
Speaker 3: traces and it's like.
• 36:34
  Speaker 4: It's insane.
• 36:35
Speaker 3: It is insane. The ability of power you have on
• 36:38
  Speaker 3: your cell phone.
• 36:40
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I mean, and it's basically free. I mean
• 36:43
Speaker 5: information for the first time in human history is basically
• 36:47
Speaker 5: accessible to all and free to all and instant. And yeah,
• 36:51
Speaker 5: it's I can see why the pulling on this is bad. Now,
• 36:56
Speaker 5: the positive outlook here is how can we use these
• 36:58
Speaker 5: tools to make your life easy, make you more productive,
• 37:01
Speaker 5: and maybe make you more economically successful. Maybe you haven't
• 37:04
Speaker 5: conceived of how that will work yet, but that's the
• 37:07
Speaker 5: challenge of these companies that are developing the technology.
• 37:09
Speaker 3: Well, in past, technological inventions that have increased productivity have
• 37:14
Speaker 3: created brand new jobs, created grand, brand new focuses, and
• 37:19
Speaker 3: so dislocation doesn't mean that people lose jobs forever. But
• 37:23
Speaker 3: it is complicated. All right. Let me ask you this. Yep,
• 37:27
Speaker 3: you're listening to this podcast right now. You're trying to
• 37:29
Speaker 3: decide do I buy Scott Jennings' book. What's the sixty
• 37:35
Speaker 3: second pitch for why you right now should go on Amazon.
• 37:39
Speaker 3: As you're listening to this, click on and buy the book.
• 37:42
Speaker 3: What's the most powerful reason to buy the book?
• 37:44
Speaker 5: Because most of the political narrative and information narrative you
• 37:49
Speaker 5: get on Trump, I think is totally misguided.
• 37:52
  Speaker 2: A lot of it's false.
• 37:53
Speaker 5: This is a true inside account of how Donald Trump
• 37:56
Speaker 5: retook power, what he did with that power, how he
• 37:59
Speaker 5: overcame the interest to execute on the promises that he made.
• 38:03
Speaker 5: I think you'll see some eye popping quotes in here
• 38:06
Speaker 5: from people like Marco Rubio, Scott Bessen, and Elon Musk,
• 38:09
Speaker 5: who I interviewed on his one hundred and first day
• 38:11
Speaker 5: in office, and I could tell by the way he
• 38:13
Speaker 5: was bent out of shape that day and really worried
• 38:16
Speaker 5: about the future of Western civilization. I didn't know he
• 38:18
Speaker 5: was going to have his dramatic momentary break.
• 38:20
Speaker 3: But how quickly after your interview did that happen?
• 38:24
Speaker 2: Just a couple of weeks. Yeah, it was.
• 38:26
  Speaker 3: It was.
• 38:26
Speaker 2: It was day one oh one, and of course he
• 38:28
Speaker 2: got been out of shape.
• 38:29
Speaker 3: So I was actually sitting in the Oval office when
• 38:32
Speaker 3: Elon like really unloaded on Trump and unloaded on Twitter,
• 38:36
Speaker 3: and it was I will say, I was having a
• 38:39
Speaker 3: meeting with Trump on school choice, where I had brought
• 38:42
Speaker 3: Byron Donald's and Burgess Owen's in and We're in the
• 38:44
Speaker 3: middle of the one big, beautiful bill, and I was
• 38:47
Speaker 3: trying to make the case, mister President, there's nothing we
• 38:49
Speaker 3: can do that's more important in this bill than school choice.
• 38:51
Speaker 3: This will be a legacy. I said, if we get
• 38:54
Speaker 3: this done, you will go down in history. Your critics
• 38:56
Speaker 3: will never acknowledge this, but you will go down in
• 38:58
Speaker 3: history as the greatest civil rights president of our lifetimes.
• 39:02
Speaker 3: We ended up getting it done, so we adopted the
• 39:04
Speaker 3: school choice provision that I wrote. But in the middle
• 39:07
Speaker 3: of that meeting, as I'm pitching it to Elon sent
• 39:11
Speaker 3: I will say his most aggressive tweet against Trump. And
• 39:19
Speaker 3: so Trump is actually not on his phone a ton.
• 39:21
Speaker 3: So when you're in the Oval, they will print out
• 39:24
Speaker 3: tweets on a piece of paper and they will hand
• 39:25
Speaker 3: it to him, and they handed it to him, and look,
• 39:29
Speaker 3: Elon is a very good friend. President Trump is a
• 39:31
Speaker 3: very good friend. I will say when that particular tweet
• 39:35
Speaker 3: came out, he was pissed and our meeting was done.
• 39:40
Speaker 3: We were there for another half hour, but our discussion
• 39:43
Speaker 3: topic was gone because he was like unloading. So it
• 39:46
Speaker 3: was And I'm very glad I spent a lot of
• 39:51
Speaker 3: time with both President Trump and Elon. I'm very glad
• 39:53
Speaker 3: that that acrimony has diminished substantially in that they've come
• 39:57
Speaker 3: back together, because I think they're both incredibly important leaders
• 40:02
Speaker 3: for the country, and I think we're better off if
• 40:03
Speaker 3: they're rowing together than if they're antagonist.
• 40:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, the day that they had their break, I was
• 40:09
Speaker 5: on CNN when it happened. I picked up a garbage
• 40:12
Speaker 5: can and I put my head in it live on
• 40:14
Speaker 5: the air to mimic how I thought all Republicans were feeling.
• 40:18
Speaker 5: Because when they joined forces, yes, they worked together to
• 40:22
Speaker 5: do nothing less than begin the process of saving the West.
• 40:26
  Speaker 3: Amen.
• 40:27
Speaker 5: If we had not won the November twenty twenty four election,
• 40:30
Speaker 5: we would be on a death spiral for the future
• 40:32
  Speaker 5: of the West.
• 40:33
Speaker 2: Trump is our leader in this. Elon knows it.
• 40:36
Speaker 5: He's worried about our fiscal situation, the mass migration crisis,
• 40:40
Speaker 5: the birth rate crisis, and all these things converging to
• 40:43
  Speaker 5: destroy the West.
• 40:44
  Speaker 2: He knows that.
• 40:46
Speaker 5: I think Trump and the Republicans are the only vehicle
• 40:48
Speaker 5: to save it. And so when they had their break,
• 40:51
Speaker 5: I mean it was a it was a vomit inducing moment,
• 40:54
Speaker 5: but it appears to me that they're rea and by
• 40:56
Speaker 5: the way, on much better footing.
• 41:00
Speaker 3: Seeing the two of them come back together was important.
• 41:03
Speaker 3: And listen, nobody who knows the two of them well
• 41:09
Speaker 3: thought that the romance was going to last forever. So
• 41:11
Speaker 3: the first several months where they were just like bosom buddies.
• 41:16
Speaker 3: They're both alpha males. They every room they have been
• 41:20
Speaker 3: in for the last thirty years, everyone in the room
• 41:24
Speaker 3: has deferred to them and kissed the rear ends. And
• 41:28
Speaker 3: you didn't have to be the most sophisticated analyst of
• 41:31
Speaker 3: human nature to say, Okay, that's probably not going to
• 41:34
Speaker 3: last forever as a harmonious when they're both used to
• 41:38
Speaker 3: being the guy the a dog. That's going to end.
• 41:45
Speaker 3: I don't think any of us envisioned it would end
• 41:47
Speaker 3: quite so spectacularly in a technicolor manner. I think most
• 41:52
Speaker 3: of us figured, Okay, they'll come a point where they say,
• 41:54
Speaker 3: all right, let's just go our separate ways and do
• 41:57
Speaker 3: our things. But and the good news is it got
• 42:01
Speaker 3: really ugly. And by the way, I use the analogy
• 42:05
Speaker 3: that I felt, like, you know, the children of divorced
• 42:07
Speaker 3: parents saying, I wish mommy and daddy would stop fighting
• 42:09
Speaker 3: because it like it was, it was painful. Because they're
• 42:13
  Speaker 3: both I admire.
• 42:14
Speaker 5: Them, both agree I'm the same way. I've defended them
• 42:16
Speaker 5: both on television. And the attacks Elon faced for the
• 42:20
Speaker 5: sin of supporting a Republican and choosing to do public service,
• 42:23
Speaker 5: that was his only sin.
• 42:24
Speaker 3: And by the way, Elon demonstrates the utter hypocrisy of
• 42:28
Speaker 3: the left. So the left for a decade has been
• 42:30
Speaker 3: saying that climate change is destroying the world and nothing
• 42:34
Speaker 3: matters more. We should produce massive human poverty to stop
• 42:39
Speaker 3: climate change because if we don't, humanity will be extinct.
• 42:42
Speaker 3: That's been their talking point for a decade. Sheldon Whitehouse
• 42:45
Speaker 3: gives a damn speech on the Senate floor every single
• 42:48
Speaker 3: week for years. I have presided during those they make
• 42:53
Speaker 3: your eyes want to bleed, they're so bad. Elon Musk
• 42:58
Speaker 3: has produced more electric vehicles than any human being who
• 43:02
Speaker 3: has ever lived. Like, if you actually believe their rhetoric
• 43:06
Speaker 3: about climate change, the left should be carving Elon's face
• 43:10
  Speaker 3: into Mount Rushmore.
• 43:12
Speaker 1: But so they were firebombing Tesla doers. They were firebombing
• 43:16
Speaker 1: so damaged to because.
• 43:17
Speaker 3: He supported Trump and who cares. Like every word they
• 43:21
Speaker 3: said about climate change was all garbage. If you support Trump,
• 43:25
Speaker 3: you must be destroyed. And it demonstrated the absolute hypocrisy
• 43:30
Speaker 3: the left. And I gotta say, Scott, I commend you
• 43:33
Speaker 3: because you work on CNN every day. You like you
• 43:37
Speaker 3: swim in that hypocrisy. And what you do a nice
• 43:41
Speaker 3: job of doing is you're not mean or bitter about it.
• 43:44
Speaker 3: You do it with a slightly amused you're full of crap.
• 43:49
Speaker 3: And look, if you were mean and punching him the face,
• 43:51
Speaker 3: it wouldn't work. But you do it more gently, and
• 43:55
Speaker 3: it is devastating and beautiful.
• 43:57
Speaker 5: These are the lessons of President Reagan. We're all happy warriors.
• 44:00
Speaker 5: We argue best when we argue with a smile on
• 44:03
Speaker 5: our face and a little bit of humor and a
• 44:04
Speaker 5: little bit of self reflection. And I found those debating
• 44:08
Speaker 5: tactics to be of great use on CNN. I think
• 44:11
Speaker 5: we're reaching people. I'll give you one other reason to
• 44:12
Speaker 5: buy this book. Everybody has a relative that's like totally
• 44:16
Speaker 5: lost to Trump derangement syndrome. I'll give you a piece
• 44:19
Speaker 5: of advice. You buy this book and wrap it up
• 44:20
Speaker 5: and put another Christmas tree. It'll be the most memorable
• 44:23
Speaker 5: Christmas you ever had.
• 44:24
Speaker 3: All Right, So the book is a revolution of common sense.
• 44:27
Speaker 3: How Donald Trump stormed Washington and fought for Western civilization
• 44:32
Speaker 3: is by Scott Jennings. We are at the beginning of December.
• 44:35
Speaker 3: Christmas time is coming up. So I'm going to say,
• 44:38
Speaker 3: don't just buy one by two, three four, Buy it
• 44:40
Speaker 3: for your crazy uncle Joe, buy it for your kids.
• 44:44
Speaker 3: Go buy the book. It is a great thing. I
• 44:47
Speaker 3: will say it is almost as good before Ben Ferguson,
• 44:50
Speaker 3: the Great Ben Ferguson. The previous co host of my
• 44:54
Speaker 3: podcast was Michael Knowles. His first book was What is
• 44:58
Speaker 3: It All? The Wisdom of the Democrats? I think is
• 45:01
Speaker 3: what it was entitled. The book.
