Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode five of Revellio for October
- 0:13Speaker 1: thirty first, twenty twenty four.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm Nicole, I'm Amy.
- 0:33Speaker 3: And I'm Tom.
- 0:35Speaker 4: How have you guys been since our last recording?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Great, it's a busy two weeks. And it's like eighty
- 0:45Speaker 2: degrees out in October, which is bizarre, but you know,
- 0:49Speaker 2: we're here.
- 0:50Speaker 5: What's eighty degrees there? I need to convert I that.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Usually eighty degrees in like July.
- 0:58Speaker 1: So is like summer, like full on summer weather.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been very unseasonably warm here, and I don't
- 1:10Speaker 1: like it because the warmth that time is over. We're
- 1:14Speaker 1: in fall and I want the fall weather. And we
- 1:18Speaker 1: had a little bit of fall weather. Amy and I
- 1:23Speaker 1: actually like went to a pumpkin patch recently and we
- 1:27Speaker 1: got some fall weather and that was nice. And then
- 1:31Speaker 1: it got really warm again, and then it's supposed to
- 1:32Speaker 1: get cold.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Again and so who knows. But yeah, that's very warm
- 1:40Speaker 4: for us here.
- 1:40Speaker 2: How are things on your side of the world there.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Tom, Yeah, it's also pretty crazy, you know, speaking of
- 1:48Speaker 5: global warming, I think because we haven't gotten like a
- 1:51Speaker 5: proper spring, like we went straight from winter into summer suddenly.
- 1:57Speaker 5: So we've been like having the air conditioning system on
- 2:00Speaker 5: the whole day and it's cool down today, but it's
- 2:04Speaker 5: been like like really heavy. We're supposed to be getting
- 2:08Speaker 5: like very mild, you know, like spring temperatures, and it's like, yeah,
- 2:13Speaker 5: it's it's been very unpleasant for me because I'm a
- 2:17Speaker 5: I love fall, and whenever we start, you know, we
- 2:20Speaker 5: get into spring and you guess, you guys get into fall.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So I'm always very envious.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Because I'm like, oh, that's so nice and they have
- 2:26Speaker 5: their pumpkin spice lottes and their you know, their comfy
- 2:30Speaker 5: blankets and they're planning their you know, they're little movie
- 2:34Speaker 5: marathons and whatnot, and you know you're here like like
- 2:39Speaker 5: dying in the heat. And yeah, it's not it's not
- 2:42Speaker 5: it's not nice.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like the fall.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Something about like the fall weather like here just also
- 2:51Speaker 1: reminds me of like Harry Potter, Like it just seems
- 2:53Speaker 1: like good to Harry Potter, like marathon watching weather and
- 2:58Speaker 1: just like sets this for like the holidays. So yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I don't know if I could like live somewhere that
- 3:06Speaker 1: doesn't have.
- 3:06Speaker 5: It, but mm hmm, yeah, speaking of that, I did.
- 3:12Speaker 5: I did do a little Harry Potter marathon last week.
- 3:16Speaker 5: They were doing screenings of the first three films, so
- 3:19Speaker 5: obviously I had to go to all three screenings, and yeah,
- 3:24Speaker 5: it was a lot of fun. You get to like
- 3:26Speaker 5: pick up on like different things, even after so many
- 3:29Speaker 5: years watching them. It's like, oh, I had to notice
- 3:31Speaker 5: this little detail and had to notice this and this
- 3:34Speaker 5: and that, and seeing it on the big screen is
- 3:36Speaker 5: also always really special.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been a while since I've gotten to see
- 3:40Speaker 2: them on the big screen. It's such a different experience.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Yeah, totally, totally.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I think it's cool too because like when some of
- 3:49Speaker 1: my local theaters did that, I think it was maybe
- 3:51Speaker 1: like last maybe last summer, and I couldn't even get
- 3:56Speaker 1: tickets for like all they did, all the films, and
- 3:59Speaker 1: I couldn't even get tickets for all of them. They
- 4:00Speaker 1: sold out and the showings I went to sold out,
- 4:03Speaker 1: And it's just so crazy how like you know, so
- 4:06Speaker 1: many years later, like it can still sell out these theaters,
- 4:11Speaker 1: which is so cool.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And yeah, the only other time.
- 4:15Speaker 1: That I ever really see anything on the big screen
- 4:17Speaker 1: now is when they have like the concerts where they
- 4:19Speaker 1: have like the live orchestra that plays it, which is
- 4:21Speaker 1: really cool experiences, but it's still not the same as
- 4:24Speaker 1: like seeing it.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I haven't been to the theater looking forward, I.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Would really love to tell you if it they come
- 4:29Speaker 4: near you for sure.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, yeah, definitely will.
- 4:35Speaker 1: In this episode, we'll be discussing Halloween in the Wizarding World.
- 4:39Speaker 4: But first.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Listening to w W in the Wizarding Wireless Network. Now
- 4:50Speaker 2: for the latest headlines.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Okay, so starting off with the news today, there's a
- 4:54Speaker 5: Harry Potter store opening in Chicago in twenty twenty five
- 4:58Speaker 5: to twelve. Three hundre square foot shop follows the success
- 5:01Speaker 5: of the Harry Potter shops in London and in New
- 5:04Speaker 5: York and the launch of Harry Potter and the Curse
- 5:06Speaker 5: Child play in Chicago. It's set to offer an enchanting
- 5:09Speaker 5: experience that brings the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to
- 5:12Speaker 5: life with interactive displays, photo ops, original film pops and more.
- 5:18Speaker 3: So. How are you feeling about that?
- 5:22Speaker 2: I think it makes sense. The New York one is
- 5:24Speaker 2: still so busy all the time. I think Chicago seems
- 5:30Speaker 2: like a pretty natural next stop.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Mm hmmmm.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I like that We're seeing kind of just more of
- 5:37Speaker 1: the stores popping up. America is a really big country
- 5:41Speaker 1: and so having more shops like pop up around the
- 5:44Speaker 1: country obviously just helps the location for people. And yeah,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I agree, it seems like the perfect spot kind of
- 5:50Speaker 1: with you know, Curse Child coming to Chicago as well,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and hopefully this just means it'll just kind of keep
- 5:58Speaker 1: moving like further west and we'll see more of them
- 6:01Speaker 1: pop up. And yeah, I mean the store is still
- 6:04Speaker 1: so busy and is still doing so well after all
- 6:06Speaker 1: this time, and there's definitely a market for it.
- 6:11Speaker 2: I mean, if you've got New York, Chicago, La La,
- 6:17Speaker 2: you've got the studio stuff.
- 6:19Speaker 1: So you're saying, is it bigger?
- 6:23Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I'd have to look up to see what the square
- 6:25Speaker 1: footage of the New York store is. I don't know
- 6:29Speaker 1: if if we saw in the news article about this one,
- 6:32Speaker 1: if it mentioned if it's going to be like multi
- 6:34Speaker 1: story as well, like the New York.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Store is you know, multiple floors.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Or if they're it's going to be bigger like on
- 6:42Speaker 1: one floor. Potentially. Yeah, it's a good question to see,
- 6:47Speaker 1: and I'm curious to see what the experience will be,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you know, if they're going to keep it that new
- 6:54Speaker 1: Broomstick experience that's in the New York store, or if
- 6:57Speaker 1: they're gonna create something new.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Hope, something new, me too, Yeah, totally.
- 7:07Speaker 2: So.
- 7:07Speaker 5: In other news, Wizardingworld dot Com rebrands to just Harry
- 7:11Speaker 5: Potter dot com and yeah, naturally we have thoughts about this,
- 7:17Speaker 5: not go not a fan, to be honest.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Not a fan. Yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I already missed going to the web page and seeing
- 7:26Speaker 1: the gorgeous Wizarding World logo with the wands that I
- 7:29Speaker 1: thought was just absolutely perfect, like that opened like a book.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And obviously I love just the term Wizarding World, and
- 7:38Speaker 1: like we used it for this podcast.
- 7:40Speaker 4: You know.
- 7:40Speaker 1: It's just I think that that was such a great
- 7:43Speaker 1: rebrand when it happened, because we were like expanding the
- 7:47Speaker 1: universe with Fantastic Bees, and you know, it's expanded even
- 7:51Speaker 1: more with things like Hogwarts Legacy, and it just felt
- 7:56Speaker 1: like we were opening up.
- 7:57Speaker 4: This like multiverse like a lot of.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Big fandoms are doing, and it was a way to
- 8:03Speaker 1: kind of nicely umbrella all of it. And now it
- 8:06Speaker 1: just seems like we're just reversing that, and.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Which is weird because I can't imagine they're not going
- 8:15Speaker 2: to ever do any more spinoffs. We know that they
- 8:19Speaker 2: own the rights to doing something with the Quidditch through
- 8:21Speaker 2: the Ages thing. We are getting the TV show, which
- 8:26Speaker 2: I would imagine if it does well, there's gonna be
- 8:29Speaker 2: more spin offs of the TV show. Like you mentioned,
- 8:32Speaker 2: Hogwart's Legacy is getting a sequel. So it's like, why
- 8:38Speaker 2: are we pigeonholing this and calling it Harry Potter when
- 8:41Speaker 2: it's still more than the Harry Potter series at this point.
- 8:45Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I think condensing it to just Harry Potter
- 8:50Speaker 5: feels like a step back, just because this universe is
- 8:53Speaker 5: so expansive, and we've talked about this in previous episodes,
- 8:56Speaker 5: like there's so much more stories that could you know, unfold,
- 9:00Speaker 5: and people have been begging for ma arters series or
- 9:04Speaker 5: movies forever, and so it's like, I feel like it's
- 9:09Speaker 5: it's really it's sad that, you know, we're just coming
- 9:11Speaker 5: down to Harry Potter when this universe is so rich
- 9:14Speaker 5: and there's so many stories that could be told, and
- 9:17Speaker 5: there's like, you know, obviously, like you said, Amy, like
- 9:23Speaker 5: it's easier to google Harry Potter and it's more popular
- 9:26Speaker 5: than just Wizarding World dot com.
- 9:28Speaker 3: So maybe it wasn't getting enough hits. I don't know.
- 9:32Speaker 1: It's it's weird, And I've seen that argument a couple
- 9:35Speaker 1: of places, and I will say I've seen a lot
- 9:37Speaker 1: of just there has been like discourse online of people
- 9:41Speaker 1: being like this, I don't like this move. It seems
- 9:43Speaker 1: like we're just trying to erase Fantastic Beasts, like, which
- 9:48Speaker 1: makes sense because.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Then you've got the theme park opening.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Is literally yeah right, like and it's it's weird because
- 9:56Speaker 1: I do feel like in a way, we have kind
- 9:58Speaker 1: of taken this step back because you know, as of
- 10:02Speaker 1: right now, we're probably not getting any more Fantastic Beast
- 10:05Speaker 1: films and now the big focus is going to be
- 10:08Speaker 1: on the new Harry Potter TV show. So in a way,
- 10:11Speaker 1: it does seem like we are taking this step back
- 10:14Speaker 1: of instead of going forward revisiting the not the old,
- 10:18Speaker 1: but revisiting Harry Potter.
- 10:20Speaker 4: And so it seems like.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Maybe this rebrand is kind of in line with potentially
- 10:26Speaker 1: to help promote the show. But I also I think
- 10:30Speaker 1: it is, but I don't know if it needed like
- 10:32Speaker 1: a rebrand to help promote that, Like I think that
- 10:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, was Wizarding World just niche
- 10:39Speaker 1: enough that it was mainly just known in.
- 10:43Speaker 4: You know, I don't know.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I don't think so though, because like the theme park
- 10:47Speaker 1: is called the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and people know,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I mean, they still call it Harry Potter Land.
- 10:53Speaker 4: You still see that everywhere, which so maybe that's partly it.
- 10:57Speaker 1: You know, it's people are calling it that, but it's
- 10:59Speaker 1: I mean, really the logo is Wizarding World of Harry Potter,
- 11:02Speaker 1: so like the whole Wizarding World thing is not I
- 11:05Speaker 1: don't think it is some niche thing. I think it
- 11:07Speaker 1: is out there enough, and I just think it's a
- 11:10Speaker 1: waste of a really cool logo, what I really do.
- 11:14Speaker 5: It's beautiful, Yeah, it's it's it's really sad to see
- 11:17Speaker 5: to see that happening at this stage. But it is
- 11:20Speaker 5: also likely that, yeah, they want to like really move
- 11:23Speaker 5: forward with you know, promoting the TV show and also
- 11:27Speaker 5: probably just keep you know, making money out of the film.
- 11:31Speaker 5: So they're just probably trying to get those two markets
- 11:34Speaker 5: which are the most probably going to be the most
- 11:37Speaker 5: powerful ones, and you know, maybe they didn't see much
- 11:40Speaker 5: Fantastic Beasts merch related merch being sold or you know,
- 11:45Speaker 5: they were seeing some and so. Yeah, but it is
- 11:48Speaker 5: weird that they are literally about to open in less
- 11:51Speaker 5: than a year this whole huge park based on Fantastic Beasts.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Yet they you know, some people say they want to
- 11:59Speaker 5: raise the systems of these films, which I hope isn't
- 12:03Speaker 5: the case.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and I don't think it is because obviously, right, yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 1: we are opening this whole part that's mainly around Fantastic Beace.
- 12:12Speaker 1: But again, and like we talked about it in that episode, interestingly,
- 12:16Speaker 1: its title has nothing to do with Fantastic Beace really,
- 12:20Speaker 1: I mean obviously there isn't. There is the French Ministry
- 12:23Speaker 1: of Magic, but it's like the star of it is
- 12:26Speaker 1: again the Harry Potter tie. So I don't know, but
- 12:30Speaker 1: I hope maybe sometime in the future that like this
- 12:32Speaker 1: gets revisited and potentially gets reversed.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Are they just going to rebrand again when they inevitably
- 12:40Speaker 2: make another spin off? Like I just it doesn't make
- 12:44Speaker 2: sense to me. No whoever is doing their marketing decisions.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Brothers, if you're listening, please take.
- 12:54Speaker 4: It back to Wizarding World time.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Please.
- 12:57Speaker 4: This WI podcast wants it to be with World dot Com.
- 13:01Speaker 1: We will not be rebranding the podcast. We are not
- 13:04Speaker 1: rebranding to a Harry Potter podcast. We are still a
- 13:07Speaker 1: Wizarding World podcast.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely so.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Speaking of Universal, Universal announced the opening date and ticket
- 13:17Speaker 5: options for Epic Universe on October seventeenth. We learned that
- 13:20Speaker 5: Epic Universe, which will contain the new Wizarding Paris Ministry
- 13:24Speaker 5: of Magic Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion, will open
- 13:27Speaker 5: on May twenty second, twenty twenty five. Tickets went on
- 13:31Speaker 5: sales starting October twenty second, and a please in a
- 13:34Speaker 5: phased approach and at the moment, are available in three,
- 13:37Speaker 5: four or five day options, where one of the days
- 13:40Speaker 5: can be used at Epic Universe and the other days
- 13:43Speaker 5: can be used in other Universal parks. Annual pass holders
- 13:47Speaker 5: received a priority opportunity to start purchasing single day tickets
- 13:51Speaker 5: to only Epic Universe on October twenty fourth. It looks
- 13:55Speaker 5: like more ticket options, including single day options for the
- 13:58Speaker 5: general public edition, multi day ticket options, Florida Resident tickets,
- 14:03Speaker 5: and Universal Express passes will be available at a later date,
- 14:08Speaker 5: but before the park opens.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so I have I've I've had some mixed thoughts
- 14:16Speaker 1: about about this this announcement, as Tom and Amy.
- 14:20Speaker 2: No, Yes, a crisis. Yeah, I had a bit of.
- 14:24Speaker 4: A crisis, I think so.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I mean, on the one hand, I'm like super happy
- 14:29Speaker 1: that it's opening in May. I think that's earlier than
- 14:32Speaker 1: we thought. And right before they made this announcement, I
- 14:38Speaker 1: had seen an article on Wall Street Journal that was
- 14:42Speaker 1: kind of talking about rumors of it being like a
- 14:44Speaker 1: Memorial Day weekend thing, which seems to be pretty true.
- 14:47Speaker 1: It's close enough, but definitely like the ticket sale thing
- 14:52Speaker 1: has been a little stressful, and I'm in a couple
- 14:55Speaker 1: universal groups on Facebook still, and I'm still in the
- 14:57Speaker 1: Universal Passholder group too, and there seems to still be
- 15:00Speaker 1: just a lot of confusion with people about the releases here.
- 15:05Speaker 1: So at the time of us recording this episode, it's
- 15:09Speaker 1: the day after tickets went on sale to the general
- 15:11Speaker 1: public and the day before the annual passholder sale will
- 15:15Speaker 1: go on. But yeah, this one was a little stressful
- 15:18Speaker 1: for me because I currently am not an annual pass holder,
- 15:22Speaker 1: Like I chose not to renew my annual pass after
- 15:25Speaker 1: my last one expired, and so but I'm planning to
- 15:29Speaker 1: become an annual pass holder again. Literally in a few months.
- 15:34Speaker 1: But in order to access these single day tickets, you
- 15:37Speaker 1: have to have an active annual pass. But what's kind
- 15:41Speaker 1: of frustrating is you only have to have an active
- 15:43Speaker 1: annual pass at the time of purchasing the tickets. You
- 15:47Speaker 1: don't have to still be an act like an active
- 15:49Speaker 1: annual pass holder at the time that you go. But
- 15:52Speaker 1: I think this is probably because this is just phase
- 15:56Speaker 1: one of tickets being released, so it is kind of
- 15:59Speaker 1: more of a which I didn't realize at first. When
- 16:02Speaker 1: I first read the announcement, I thought that they were
- 16:04Speaker 1: saying that only annual pass holders would have a chance
- 16:08Speaker 1: to buy single day tickets and that would never go
- 16:10Speaker 1: on sale for other people.
- 16:12Speaker 4: But I think it's just the way I read it, And.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Then I read the official like press release and saw
- 16:17Speaker 1: that this is just phase one, and in phase one,
- 16:20Speaker 1: annual pass holders are getting essentially like a priority opportunity
- 16:24Speaker 1: to purchase these single day tickets, and there's going to
- 16:27Speaker 1: be single day.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Tickets set aside for them.
- 16:30Speaker 1: But then eventually, yeah, they're going to be available for
- 16:33Speaker 1: you know, for other people. But yeah, my dilemma was like,
- 16:37Speaker 1: you know, you have to if you don't currently have
- 16:39Speaker 1: an annual pass You essentially have to buy this package
- 16:42Speaker 1: of a three, four or five day and the ticket
- 16:46Speaker 1: prices they're actually pretty reasonable, but like, if you're planning
- 16:49Speaker 1: to become a pass holder, then essentially you're throwing away
- 16:53Speaker 1: money because if I were to, if I were to
- 16:55Speaker 1: have bought tickets when they went on sale on the
- 16:58Speaker 1: twenty second and an annual pass and a couple months,
- 17:02Speaker 1: that is some wasted money because I don't I won't
- 17:05Speaker 1: need the tickets for the other parks when I go
- 17:07Speaker 1: because I'll be a pass holder. So I ultimately decided
- 17:10Speaker 1: to wait it out, and I'm going to wait until
- 17:13Speaker 1: I'm a pass holder in a couple months and just
- 17:15Speaker 1: see what's available and kind of go from there. But
- 17:18Speaker 1: I think I've already seen that Opening weekend is like
- 17:21Speaker 1: already at least for the like the package deals is
- 17:24Speaker 1: like kind of already booked. But I'll say I'm not
- 17:28Speaker 1: surprised either. But I'll say in the Facebook groups, I'm
- 17:31Speaker 1: in a lot of people in the annual passolder group,
- 17:34Speaker 1: a lot of people are saying they're waiting to go,
- 17:36Speaker 1: that they're going to wait a couple of months, you know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: maybe even into twenty twenty six. So I'll be really
- 17:41Speaker 1: interested to see once they're all open for everybody, how
- 17:45Speaker 1: that actually how it actually plays out, because yeah, a
- 17:48Speaker 1: lot of people look like they want to wait.
- 17:51Speaker 5: They did have soft openings for the first park in Florida,
- 17:55Speaker 5: if I'm not mistaken.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Like people have been talking about that in the passholder group,
- 18:00Speaker 1: like if there's going to be like a passholder like
- 18:03Speaker 1: soft opening preview. I just say, I think it'll probably happen.
- 18:07Speaker 1: There's just not any like details at least yat on it.
- 18:11Speaker 2: What I think is interesting is we've never gotten well,
- 18:16Speaker 2: i mean, prior to Harry Potter, you've got the full
- 18:18Speaker 2: park opening all at once, but like I mean, it's
- 18:21Speaker 2: been a really long time since you've just had like
- 18:23Speaker 2: the entire park be new and open as opposed to
- 18:28Speaker 2: just to section. So I'm wondering, like, obviously it's going
- 18:34Speaker 2: to be crowded for quite a while, but I'm wondering
- 18:37Speaker 2: if it'll be quite as bad as how it was
- 18:40Speaker 2: when like Die got an alley opened and all of that, like,
- 18:43Speaker 2: because it's going to be dispersed because they're going to
- 18:46Speaker 2: limit the tickets sold. I'm assuming right, because we're saying
- 18:49Speaker 2: it's already pretty much sold out, so they are putting
- 18:53Speaker 2: a limit and you've got the entire park, Like I
- 18:58Speaker 2: feel like Nintendo and Dark Universe and all that's going
- 19:02Speaker 2: to be super popular too, so like people will disperse,
- 19:05Speaker 2: which is good. Hopefully that kind of helps a little
- 19:09Speaker 2: bit with the crowds.
- 19:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it's interesting because, like you said, it's not just
- 19:13Speaker 5: a section of a part like we've had in all
- 19:15Speaker 5: previous expansions. This is literally a new park, so demand
- 19:19Speaker 5: it's going to be huge obviously.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think, I mean the way they're doing
- 19:24Speaker 1: these tickets is really to control like how many people
- 19:27Speaker 1: are going to be in there, and like if you buy,
- 19:30Speaker 1: if you're not getting single day tickets as an annual
- 19:32Speaker 1: pass holder and you get this three, four or five
- 19:34Speaker 1: day option like you know, as you mentioned Tom, like
- 19:36Speaker 1: you can only use one day at Epic Universe, right,
- 19:40Speaker 1: But it seems like annual passolders will be able to
- 19:43Speaker 1: purchase like they could purchase essentially any like every day,
- 19:47Speaker 1: like if they wanted to. But I think that that
- 19:52Speaker 1: will kind of control and I think Universal has definitely
- 19:54Speaker 1: really thought this out of like how can we make
- 19:57Speaker 1: it so that people that are coming, like are having
- 20:00Speaker 1: a good experience, and it's not super crowded, and I
- 20:03Speaker 1: think one hundred percent the fact that it's a whole
- 20:06Speaker 1: new park opening will really like help disperse. And there's
- 20:11Speaker 1: it's and all areas of this park look so cool.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Like there's not one area of this park that doesn't
- 20:17Speaker 1: look cool. So I don't think it's right. The demand
- 20:21Speaker 1: isn't just for you know, Harry Potter, Like there's so
- 20:24Speaker 1: many people that are also excited about Nintendo World and
- 20:27Speaker 1: Dark Universe and you know how to train your dragon,
- 20:30Speaker 1: so I think that'll help. But yeah, it's going to
- 20:33Speaker 1: be crazy. And it looks like like the ticket prices
- 20:38Speaker 1: are kind of like date based, so certain dates are
- 20:42Speaker 1: more expensive than others, and so that opening weekend and
- 20:45Speaker 1: at first is more expensive and so that might also,
- 20:49Speaker 1: you know, to tear some people from waiting. But yeah,
- 20:52Speaker 1: it'll just be really it'll be really interesting to see
- 20:56Speaker 1: what happens. And I'm curious that when I have the
- 20:59Speaker 1: opportunity to get at single day tickets in a couple months,
- 21:02Speaker 1: when I have a pass, like I'll be curious to
- 21:04Speaker 1: see what's still available like at that yeah, like at
- 21:07Speaker 1: that time.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It's booked.
- 21:08Speaker 5: Yeah mm hmmmm hmm.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, we got to plan our trip, we got to go.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I was I was kind of I mean, my first thing,
- 21:16Speaker 1: I was like, Amy, let's go to opening weekend.
- 21:18Speaker 4: We got We're going.
- 21:20Speaker 3: That's why I asked you. I asked you, are you
- 21:21Speaker 3: doing opening weekend?
- 21:23Speaker 4: Because well, and I really wanted to.
- 21:25Speaker 1: And it's like, because I have, like I am a
- 21:27Speaker 1: Disney World annual pass holder, and those tickets just went
- 21:31Speaker 1: up again in money price, so I don't know if
- 21:34Speaker 1: I'm going to be renewing, but either way, I have
- 21:37Speaker 1: that through June.
- 21:39Speaker 4: But when that.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Expires, and I was like, this is perfect, I can
- 21:41Speaker 1: like use my pass again in May, go to the
- 21:44Speaker 1: new park in May, and then found out that I
- 21:47Speaker 1: would yet have to purchase multi day tickets and kind
- 21:51Speaker 1: of was like, Okay, I guess I'll put the brakes
- 21:53Speaker 1: on on this. But I think too the thing going
- 21:58Speaker 1: open to a weekend is really cool and awesome, and
- 22:00Speaker 1: like we went, like Amy and I went opening weekend
- 22:03Speaker 1: for Hagrid's when it opened. But I think there is
- 22:06Speaker 1: like cons to it, right because it's like there's kinks
- 22:09Speaker 1: that have to be worked out, and it's new for everybody,
- 22:12Speaker 1: and it's just sometimes it is better to wait a
- 22:15Speaker 1: couple months.
- 22:16Speaker 2: And here's the thing. We did that at the time,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I was like twenty three, twenty four. It was rough
- 22:27Speaker 2: then at thirty, I don't know that I could handle it.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Like we had to call down for extra pillows at
- 22:35Speaker 2: the desk of the hotel to elevate our feet after
- 22:38Speaker 2: waiting in one for eight hours. I don't think my
- 22:40Speaker 2: thirty year old body could take it.
- 22:42Speaker 4: I think I would be I definitely can't for several days.
- 22:45Speaker 1: No, definitely can't. And I mean I hope that like
- 22:48Speaker 1: they've also kind of like learned from that experience too.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I think it'll help because it seems like the new
- 22:52Speaker 1: Ministry of Magic ride the cues likely not outside at all.
- 22:57Speaker 4: So that's what's really hard about Hagrid is.
- 22:59Speaker 1: That queue is outside and you have to lock up
- 23:02Speaker 1: all your stuff before you get in it, and there's
- 23:04Speaker 1: no way to get I mean, and that was the
- 23:06Speaker 1: worst part. It was the middle of summer in Florida.
- 23:09Speaker 1: We were out in the sun because the ride kept
- 23:12Speaker 1: like breaking down, and then it was I didn't ray.
- 23:14Speaker 4: It was like, yeah, it was breaking down.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And the food, but you had locked up your no one.
- 23:20Speaker 1: No one had any money because we had to lock
- 23:23Speaker 1: everything up and it was just it was a rough experience.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Yeah, At the same time, it makes sense that the
- 23:28Speaker 5: queue was in the open air because it kind of
- 23:30Speaker 5: like immerses you into that like you know hagrid ambience,
- 23:33Speaker 5: you know, thing like the grounds, which is different from hogwarts,
- 23:36Speaker 5: even different from dueling dragons. Remember there was a part
- 23:39Speaker 5: of the queue that was like inside a tent and uh, yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 5: so it does make sense that you know it's out
- 23:47Speaker 5: there in the heat, well.
- 23:49Speaker 1: It's half outside, it's like you're outside, and then once
- 23:53Speaker 1: you get inside.
- 23:54Speaker 4: You're trapped in the awful hatchery room that is so
- 24:00Speaker 4: hot and loud, and.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It's gorgeous, like the design of it is gorgeous, but
- 24:04Speaker 1: it is just miserable and now and once you're in
- 24:07Speaker 1: that room, you're in that room for like half an hour,
- 24:09Speaker 1: and then once you get out of that room, you're
- 24:11Speaker 1: in these like caves and so storry if you have claustrophobia,
- 24:17Speaker 1: Like it's just it's hard. It's it's nice if you don't,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it's nice now that it's not an eight hour wait.
- 24:23Speaker 1: And now once when the universe opens, it'll be really
- 24:26Speaker 1: I'll be very curious to see like how that actually
- 24:29Speaker 1: impacts the other parks, because I feel like it won't
- 24:33Speaker 1: because if you're buying this three, four or five day package,
- 24:36Speaker 1: you have to use those other.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Days at the other part.
- 24:40Speaker 2: The other parts makes it.
- 24:41Speaker 4: Busier mm hmm.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Interesting because it's going to be staggered. Who's going going
- 24:47Speaker 1: to Epic that day? And it's going to draw more
- 24:51Speaker 1: people there.
- 24:51Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 24:53Speaker 5: I don't know, definitely. So moving on to our last
- 25:00Speaker 5: bit of news. Last episode, we talked about how it
- 25:03Speaker 5: was announced that the touring version of Kirschild was going
- 25:05Speaker 5: to be shortened. We've since then learned that this shortened
- 25:09Speaker 5: version will also be happening to the Broadway show. So
- 25:12Speaker 5: this new shortened version of the place just under three
- 25:15Speaker 5: hours in length compared to the current running time of
- 25:18Speaker 5: three and a half hours. This new shortened version will
- 25:21Speaker 5: premiere on Broadway on November twelve, twenty twenty four, when
- 25:25Speaker 5: the new cast starts. Yeah, I consider myself lucky that
- 25:29Speaker 5: I was able to experience it back in August, because
- 25:33Speaker 5: if I had been there in probably after November, then
- 25:37Speaker 5: I would have gotten like the shortened version, not the
- 25:40Speaker 5: full experience.
- 25:40Speaker 3: So yeah, it's a shame.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Because, like I said last episode, it doesn't feel that long,
- 25:45Speaker 5: so I don't really know why they're doing it, Like.
- 25:49Speaker 1: What else is Yeah, like we were saying, like what
- 25:51Speaker 1: else is going to get cut? I mean the good
- 25:52Speaker 1: thing is if you find yourself in London, the West
- 25:56Speaker 1: End Show is still the original length and two parts
- 26:00Speaker 1: and so it still exists, which is good. Yeah mm hm,
- 26:09Speaker 1: And moving on to our main discussion. So obviously this
- 26:13Speaker 1: episode is coming out on Halloween, so we thought what
- 26:17Speaker 1: better topic than to discuss Halloween in the Wizarding World.
- 26:22Speaker 1: So just like in the Muggle world, Halloween is celebrated
- 26:26Speaker 1: and every year we know what Hogwarts they have a
- 26:28Speaker 1: Halloween feast, And in Sorcerer's Stone we get the description
- 26:33Speaker 1: of the Great Hall it's being a thousand live bats
- 26:36Speaker 1: fluttered from the walls and ceiling, with a thousand more
- 26:39Speaker 1: swooped over the tables and low black clouds making the
- 26:43Speaker 1: candles in the pumpkin stutter. So I mean, I love
- 26:47Speaker 1: even just the scene in the film. I'm a big
- 26:49Speaker 1: Halloween fan.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Cell very sanitarys are in the those bats flying around Hogwarts.
- 26:58Speaker 6: I don't think they fail it with the owls like
- 27:01Speaker 6: flying in delivering mail while everybody's eating. I think that's
- 27:05Speaker 6: already an issue.
- 27:11Speaker 1: But yeah, so we know that, you know, they're obviously
- 27:13Speaker 1: celebrating Halloween, and sure, I'm sure it probably looks different too,
- 27:17Speaker 1: especially because in the Muggle world a lot of Muggles
- 27:21Speaker 1: dress up as witches and wizards for Halloween, and so
- 27:26Speaker 1: I think the one thing that's like kind of nice
- 27:28Speaker 1: about that is it's like a day that actual witches
- 27:31Speaker 1: and wizards can kind of maybe go out in their
- 27:34Speaker 1: normal wear and wouldn't stand out because it just looks
- 27:38Speaker 1: like costumes that the Muggles are wearing.
- 27:42Speaker 4: Kind of that bridge.
- 27:43Speaker 1: But yeah, the thing we really wanted to focus on
- 27:46Speaker 1: this episode is that Halloween and October thirty first has
- 27:51Speaker 1: played a very important role in the series when it
- 27:55Speaker 1: comes to plot events, and I think sometimes like you
- 27:58Speaker 1: have like just stopping and looking at it is like,
- 28:01Speaker 1: oh my god, so much has happened on Halloween in
- 28:04Speaker 1: this story. So we wanted to kind of just go
- 28:07Speaker 1: through the timeline of all the major events that we
- 28:10Speaker 1: know of that have happened on October thirty first.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so the very first event that we know of
- 28:19Speaker 2: in fourteen ninety two, Sir Nicholas was executed, which is
- 28:26Speaker 2: quite the big jump from that date to the next
- 28:28Speaker 2: date we know, nineteen eighty one. So in nineteen eighty one,
- 28:35Speaker 2: which we get in book seven in a flashback. In
- 28:38Speaker 2: book seven, Valtimore travels to Godric's Hollow and attacks and
- 28:42Speaker 2: kills the Potters. And interestingly, like you were just saying
- 28:47Speaker 2: a second ago, Nicole, about which is in Wizards going
- 28:50Speaker 2: Out in the Normal where that is the scenario we
- 28:55Speaker 2: get in this flashback where the little kid, the little
- 28:58Speaker 2: Muggle boy sees Baltimore in his robe and says something
- 29:03Speaker 2: about nice costume.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Doom.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, so that is I mean, we kind of
- 29:13Speaker 2: knew this date and we knew that this happened, but
- 29:16Speaker 2: book seven was really where we kind of got the
- 29:20Speaker 2: context that it was happening, you know, during trick or treating,
- 29:25Speaker 2: and we got like all of that kind of added
- 29:30Speaker 2: visual to what went down.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Do we think that like, well, obviously, like there's the
- 29:38Speaker 1: whole prophecy and everything too that you know, played a
- 29:41Speaker 1: role into it, But if there was, you know, more
- 29:46Speaker 1: to why it happened on Halloween and like you said,
- 29:50Speaker 1: and like during trick or treating, and you know, I
- 29:55Speaker 1: just wonder if there was more like planning, like on
- 29:59Speaker 1: Baltimore's it there.
- 30:01Speaker 4: To do it on a day that's so I don't know.
- 30:07Speaker 4: I mean people are out.
- 30:08Speaker 5: It's an easy disguise too, right, like a distraction.
- 30:12Speaker 1: And yeah, just like you were saying, like little muggle
- 30:15Speaker 1: Boy is like, hey, no is costume dude, like and
- 30:18Speaker 1: he's just you know, that's just him.
- 30:20Speaker 4: And it's like you can kind of.
- 30:23Speaker 2: There's already like chaos happening, so maybe people wouldn't notice
- 30:28Speaker 2: so much if there is something going on. But also,
- 30:32Speaker 2: I mean just the history of Halloween in All Hallows
- 30:38Speaker 2: Eve and how that veil between the living and the
- 30:41Speaker 2: dead is supposed to be more thin on that night.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I wonder if that has to do with making the
- 30:48Speaker 2: horror crux. I wonder if there was something at play there.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Hmm hmmm. I like that.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I don't know what that's as far as that thought goes,
- 31:02Speaker 2: but that's the thought.
- 31:06Speaker 3: It could be.
- 31:07Speaker 5: Then he didn't plan it that well because he wasn't
- 31:09Speaker 5: planning on having another yeah yeah, yeah.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Oh right, yeah, I mean yeah, he didn't walk in there,
- 31:18Speaker 1: you know, planning planning to make a horcrux, so very interesting.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, you one maybe that played a role and why
- 31:27Speaker 2: that went so wrong, I don't.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Know, because yeah, I mean because I think Halloween is
- 31:36Speaker 1: you know, very much seen as this both like spiritual,
- 31:41Speaker 1: mystical kind of you know, it's the holiday that has
- 31:46Speaker 1: a lot of unknown around it, and it's just it's
- 31:51Speaker 1: just part of the spookiness of the holiday. And I
- 31:54Speaker 1: feel like even across different cultures and stuff in different
- 31:57Speaker 1: ways it's celebrated in different cultures in different countries, it
- 32:01Speaker 1: still has the same kind of underlying tone a little
- 32:05Speaker 1: bit to it, that is that kind of mysterious vibe
- 32:08Speaker 1: to it. And so yeah, maybe there is something about
- 32:12Speaker 1: just yeah, given you were saying about that.
- 32:16Speaker 4: You know, the just like the Da delos Moertos.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Part about it and the veil of it and just yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 1: committing like a murder on that day and it just
- 32:25Speaker 1: not really going to plan. And I mean we never get, yeah,
- 32:29Speaker 1: we never get any payoff of like why it necessarily
- 32:31Speaker 1: happens that day. But you know, as we'll see as
- 32:34Speaker 1: we go through this timeline, like very there's something about
- 32:38Speaker 1: this day that is a plot driver.
- 32:42Speaker 5: And yeah, mm hmm, Yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I don't have a complete thought about it, but there's
- 32:49Speaker 1: there's there's whispers of a thought that there.
- 33:05Speaker 2: So the use of Halloween is in just in the
- 33:10Speaker 2: books either. So we do have this date from Hogwarts
- 33:14Speaker 2: Mystery nineteen eighty four, and on Halloween that year, the
- 33:19Speaker 2: werewolf Fenuer Grayback attacks Hogwarts in an attempt to spread licanthropy.
- 33:30Speaker 2: I have not played Hogwarts Mystery, so I don't know
- 33:34Speaker 2: a lot about this, but interesting.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 2: So then we get to nineteen ninety one, which is
- 33:44Speaker 2: obviously in book one, and we have the Halloween feast
- 33:48Speaker 2: which Nicole described earlier, and that feast is interrupted by
- 33:53Speaker 2: the troll being loose in the castle. At that same time,
- 33:59Speaker 2: Coral is attempting to get past Fluffy into the Sorcerer's
- 34:02Speaker 2: Stone and is stopped by Snape.
- 34:08Speaker 1: This is such an iconic scene, Like as soon as
- 34:10Speaker 1: you said troll, I just heard troll.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Like the donjons.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Ye pass out.
- 34:21Speaker 5: And the food on the table in that scene is oh,
- 34:24Speaker 5: Like I remember watching those kids like run off and
- 34:26Speaker 5: I was like, no way I would run off without
- 34:28Speaker 5: grabbing a few, like you know, some drug stacks.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Yeah, like.
- 34:34Speaker 1: And there was all the like treats and yeah, the
- 34:37Speaker 1: students of Hogwarts really had it made when it came
- 34:40Speaker 1: to celebrating. I mean, I think all their dinners were
- 34:42Speaker 1: that extravagant. But yeah, the way that I couldn't imagine
- 34:46Speaker 1: celebrating like Halloween or Christmas in the Great Hall, it's
- 34:49Speaker 1: so cool. But yeah, if a troll came and there
- 34:53Speaker 1: was an interruption, I would definitely be grabbing something because like, yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 1: I'm about to die, Like I want to have some
- 34:59Speaker 1: food before I go.
- 35:01Speaker 2: It's how going out. Yeah, but a lot of really
- 35:06Speaker 2: important stuff packed into that one night in that book.
- 35:12Speaker 2: You know, this is very early in the story, but
- 35:16Speaker 2: we kind of get these seeds planted here and we
- 35:20Speaker 2: kind of find out more about what's going on obviously
- 35:22Speaker 2: at the end of the book, but you know, this
- 35:26Speaker 2: is your first clue of Quarrel being the bad guy,
- 35:31Speaker 2: Snape actually stopping Quarrel. Yeah, so definitely along that theme
- 35:40Speaker 2: of super big plot events that happen on Halloween, I.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Think even too the whole like.
- 35:51Speaker 1: This this scene also, I think really sets up like Harry,
- 35:55Speaker 1: Hermione and Ron's like future like as a friendship trio,
- 36:00Speaker 1: you know, and obviously like it's just how it comes
- 36:04Speaker 1: to be, and you know why Hermione's even in the
- 36:06Speaker 1: bathroom to begin with, and then you know, at the
- 36:09Speaker 1: end of the day, you know, even though Ron was
- 36:13Speaker 1: maybe not the best to her, you know before, like
- 36:16Speaker 1: he helps save her. And I think after this event,
- 36:19Speaker 1: it's almost like not like a trauma bond, but like
- 36:23Speaker 1: kind of they really went through this ordeal, you know,
- 36:25Speaker 1: as these three young kids, and that's like really the
- 36:29Speaker 1: start of them being the trio, I think, which is
- 36:32Speaker 1: obviously so important to the rest of the story.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Yeah, and how Hermione puts like her friendship in front
- 36:41Speaker 5: of her academics and her like, you know, like she
- 36:44Speaker 5: could have said, you know, I was just there by coincidence,
- 36:47Speaker 5: but she took full of responsibility for it, and it
- 36:49Speaker 5: just speaks so much of how, you know, she's much
- 36:53Speaker 5: more of a Gryffindor. That's how you know, she shows
- 36:57Speaker 5: those those sides to her that are like really showcasing
- 37:01Speaker 5: who's she going to become. How much she's going to
- 37:04Speaker 5: sacrifice for her friends today is something like really small
- 37:08Speaker 5: like that, but in the future, she's going to sacrifice
- 37:10Speaker 5: her own life if she has to for her friends.
- 37:13Speaker 3: So I think it was really cute.
- 37:15Speaker 5: And also the deleted scene from Sorcerer's Stone when you
- 37:18Speaker 5: mentioned that Nicole, Like when Ron says, what are friends
- 37:21Speaker 5: for it?
- 37:22Speaker 3: It's kind of like a tear jerker.
- 37:24Speaker 5: It's such a nice scene because it's like that friendship
- 37:27Speaker 5: is kind of like, you know, finally, like you know,
- 37:30Speaker 5: it becomes a real thing, and it's so cute.
- 37:34Speaker 3: I love it.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I think to this sets the tone for the
- 37:41Speaker 2: future Halloween events and that all is not quite as
- 37:46Speaker 2: it seems. Right. We've got a lot of action going
- 37:50Speaker 2: on at the moment. You're more focused on the troll,
- 37:55Speaker 2: but really the thing you should have been focused on
- 37:58Speaker 2: what was happening there under your nose the whole time,
- 38:02Speaker 2: which kind of becomes the same sort of situation when
- 38:06Speaker 2: we get to nineteen ninety two in book two, which
- 38:13Speaker 2: that night there's a few things going on. But the
- 38:15Speaker 2: thing that I'm thinking of that has that same sort
- 38:18Speaker 2: of theme is when Ginny opens the Chamber of Secrets
- 38:22Speaker 2: for the first time in fifty years, Missus Norris is petrified.
- 38:27Speaker 2: You're focusing not really on Jinny. You're focusing on Missus
- 38:36Speaker 2: Norris and the message on the wall and all this stuff,
- 38:40Speaker 2: But really, the underlying thing happening is there, but we
- 38:46Speaker 2: aren't really paying attention to it, the whole Tom Riddle
- 38:49Speaker 2: plot everything else, and then the whole nearly headless Nix's
- 38:56Speaker 2: death day party that same night is also that thing
- 38:59Speaker 2: that kind of takes the attention away, and it's more
- 39:02Speaker 2: of like an innocent moment, like kind of funny, and
- 39:05Speaker 2: then you've got this very serious thing going on, but
- 39:07Speaker 2: we can't grasp what's actually going on in that moment.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Until interesting a while later.
- 39:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good one. Yeah, I al will think
- 39:18Speaker 5: about the PlayStation one game with its death day party,
- 39:22Speaker 5: like everyone remembers that. So Pete's throwing cakes at you
- 39:27Speaker 5: and stuff.
- 39:27Speaker 3: It was fun.
- 39:30Speaker 2: That's one of my favorite chapters, and I think I
- 39:32Speaker 2: mentioned that in our first episode, but I just I
- 39:35Speaker 2: love that chapter. The ghost who keeps walking through the
- 39:40Speaker 2: food with his mouth open trying to taste it.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I just want to eat this, can't.
- 39:45Speaker 2: It's so funny, Like it's so morbid, but so funny.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Behavior of all the ghosts, I think is always great.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to say Tom.
- 39:56Speaker 5: No, I was just going to say, because watching Chamber
- 39:59Speaker 5: Secrets last time just make me think, how did he
- 40:02Speaker 5: how did he get unpetrified? Like he's a ghost so
- 40:05Speaker 5: he you know, Okay, he didn't die because he was
- 40:08Speaker 5: already dead.
- 40:09Speaker 3: He got predified. How did they apply the Man Drake
- 40:14Speaker 3: cure on him?
- 40:15Speaker 5: Like I was literally I went into Reddit and I
- 40:18Speaker 5: was like, yeah, I had that question, and I was
- 40:19Speaker 5: like going around and some people maybe they sprayed it
- 40:23Speaker 5: on him or something like it's a question like you know, yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 5: like how.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Did it's weird like osmosis absorption or something?
- 40:32Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 40:32Speaker 5: Yeah, they say, well, they say that it's because he
- 40:35Speaker 5: isn't invisible, so he's obviously has some sort of existence
- 40:39Speaker 5: still attached to him even.
- 40:40Speaker 3: If he's a ghost.
- 40:42Speaker 5: The fact that he's still visible might be like, you know,
- 40:47Speaker 5: why he was able to get like, quote unquote cured.
- 40:50Speaker 3: So just a random thought.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. So in nineteen ninety three, in book three,
- 40:56Speaker 2: would get yet another Halloween event that isn't quite as
- 41:00Speaker 2: it seems serious. Black enters the castle in search of
- 41:04Speaker 2: Peter Pettigrew. In that moment, we think he's a crazy
- 41:08Speaker 2: killer in the loose he stands over Ron with the knife. Yeah,
- 41:15Speaker 2: but later we realize he's not the crazy killer in
- 41:19Speaker 2: the Loose. He's arguably still a little crazy, but he's
- 41:25Speaker 2: looking for the.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Real Killer's just in as command for years and years
- 41:29Speaker 1: and years, like anyone would go a little crazy. Sorry,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I got to defend my serious black when I can.
- 41:39Speaker 1: But yeah, no, I really like, just yeah, really, what
- 41:42Speaker 1: you've pointed out about just all these events just really
- 41:45Speaker 1: not being what they seem like.
- 41:47Speaker 4: And that seems to be this common thread with all of.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Them, which when you think about Halloween, isn't that the
- 41:57Speaker 2: whole point of Halloween. It's not what it seems, not
- 41:59Speaker 2: what it seems. People are in costume, they're not really
- 42:02Speaker 2: who they appear to be, the supernatural, not what it seems,
- 42:08Speaker 2: all that stuff. So it does fit a theme.
- 42:11Speaker 3: The killer is not the killer.
- 42:13Speaker 2: M h. Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 42:18Speaker 5: There seems to be this, you know, kind of like
- 42:20Speaker 5: pattern going on with Halloween, and I'm very curious to
- 42:24Speaker 5: see why JK. Rowling chose these dates. But it's a
- 42:28Speaker 5: good Yeah, it's a good I haven't thought about it
- 42:30Speaker 5: that way. Interesting analysis.
- 42:34Speaker 2: Yeah, So in nineteen ninety four, in book four on Halloween,
- 42:40Speaker 2: the Triwizard Champions are chosen from the Goblet of Fire. Obviously,
- 42:46Speaker 2: the twist there is the fourth name comes out of
- 42:49Speaker 2: the goblet, and it's Harry. There's not supposed to be
- 42:52Speaker 2: for again, not what it.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Seems when it seems Harry even.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Gone off in the real.
- 43:08Speaker 5: We were watching Goblet of Fire last night, like a
- 43:11Speaker 5: couple of nights ago, and my boyfriend was like, he's
- 43:14Speaker 5: very loud in this film, Like he's screaming the whole
- 43:17Speaker 5: time whenever he speaks, and I was like, yeah, it's
- 43:19Speaker 5: kind of something you know the movie has. There's there
- 43:22Speaker 5: was something going on with the with Sir Michael Gamban
- 43:26Speaker 5: in this film.
- 43:27Speaker 1: He was going through it that year, you know, Yeah,
- 43:29Speaker 1: I mean it was a stressful year, I think. I mean,
- 43:32Speaker 1: I think to this day it's right, like right, understandably, right,
- 43:37Speaker 1: You've got Fred and George over here trying to trick
- 43:40Speaker 1: things out, and there's just you know they are they're
- 43:43Speaker 1: hosting all these students at the school. That's probably stressful.
- 43:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 43:48Speaker 1: They literally just had the Chamber of Secrets opened a
- 43:51Speaker 1: couple of years ago, and they're bringing all these people
- 43:53Speaker 1: to the school.
- 43:54Speaker 4: Like there's a lot going on.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Mentors the mentors last year, like Doubledo knows something going
- 44:00Speaker 1: to happen, you know, he knows. But I mean, I
- 44:02Speaker 1: think the best thing about that scene in the film
- 44:04Speaker 1: and like, I'm so not mad that it's like that
- 44:07Speaker 1: in the film, because it's obviously just become such a
- 44:09Speaker 1: funny thing for us. But it's just the irony of
- 44:12Speaker 1: it that, you know, in the book, it's literally described
- 44:14Speaker 1: as him saying it calmly, and it's just the whole
- 44:17Speaker 1: juxtaposition of it being the opposite of not calm in
- 44:21Speaker 1: the movie.
- 44:22Speaker 4: It just makes it great.
- 44:24Speaker 5: Yeah, which also makes sense. It's not doesn't seem too
- 44:27Speaker 5: out of character that he does it that way in
- 44:29Speaker 5: the film either because he's genuinely like worried about Harry
- 44:32Speaker 5: and he knows that, you know, this is a very
- 44:34Speaker 5: dangerous competition. People have died there, so obviously, you know
- 44:40Speaker 5: he's a little you know, kind of like on edge
- 44:43Speaker 5: because it definitely, like you said, there's so much going
- 44:46Speaker 5: on that year. He has a lot of people infiltrated,
- 44:51Speaker 5: bad guys in within the castle. He always expects, but
- 44:55Speaker 5: you know, it's like he's got a lot on you know,
- 44:58Speaker 5: on his plate at the at this point. So yeah,
- 45:02Speaker 5: I think it's also like kind of makes sense why
- 45:05Speaker 5: he says it in that tone in the films.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I agree it.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Almost I think it kind of almost makes more sense,
- 45:12Speaker 1: because right, it's like, you know, Dumbledore like obviously knows
- 45:17Speaker 1: more about what's possibly.
- 45:18Speaker 4: Going on here, you know, and his whole.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Thing is like keeping Harry alive and in knowing the
- 45:30Speaker 1: importance of keeping Harry alive and all of that, and
- 45:33Speaker 1: now here is this like binding thing that Harry has
- 45:38Speaker 1: to do that yeah, like you said.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Has led to peril.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And it's just, yeah, it does make sense for him
- 45:47Speaker 1: to kind of react in that way, but then kind
- 45:50Speaker 1: of step back later, you know, and like not like
- 45:52Speaker 1: maybe apology kind of like an apologetic way to Harry,
- 45:55Speaker 1: but like to then then step back and say, this
- 45:58Speaker 1: is why I reacted, you know, in that way. And
- 46:01Speaker 1: I think too, like I don't necessarily think and this
- 46:06Speaker 1: is me kind of again taking movie Dumbledore reaction. I
- 46:11Speaker 1: don't think Dumbledore would have initially believed really that Harry
- 46:17Speaker 1: did it right, because like, Harry's a great wizard even
- 46:20Speaker 1: though he's young, but like to be able to like
- 46:23Speaker 1: out smart you know, the age charm and stuff when
- 46:28Speaker 1: others couldn't. I mean, we see it doesn't work for
- 46:30Speaker 1: Fred and George, and so I think like in the
- 46:33Speaker 1: back of Dumbledore's mind he knows there, you know, he
- 46:36Speaker 1: knows there's something more going on here, and I think
- 46:39Speaker 1: that's also why that rage or that not that rage,
- 46:42Speaker 1: but just that emotional outburst and the urgency makes sense
- 46:46Speaker 1: because it's this like, Okay, there's something else going on
- 46:49Speaker 1: that I haven't figured out yet. Yeah, because there's no
- 46:54Speaker 1: way that Harry entered him himself here.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Obviously this is a huge plot event to occur
- 47:06Speaker 1: on you know, on Halloween, because Harry being chosen is
- 47:12Speaker 1: obviously so vital to everything that unfolds.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Through the Triwizard Tournament that sets up the rest of the.
- 47:22Speaker 5: Story such a breaking point.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Which interestingly, that's like the last actual Halloween event we
- 47:35Speaker 2: get in the book series, other than that book seven flashback,
- 47:41Speaker 2: which we're going to talk about in a minute. So strangely,
- 47:45Speaker 2: the next date on our timeline isn't actually until twenty
- 47:50Speaker 2: twenty with Chris Child, and on Halloween Night in twenty twenty,
- 47:58Speaker 2: Harry Ron Hermione and Ginny and Draco drops Draco's name
- 48:03Speaker 2: out of this timeline. Oops forgotten again.
- 48:10Speaker 4: I love Draco's story and curse Child.
- 48:14Speaker 2: They traveled back in time from one Halloween Night to another,
- 48:18Speaker 2: so they go from twenty twenty back to eighty one. Yeah,
- 48:23Speaker 2: eighty one, the night of Harry's parents' death. That scene
- 48:31Speaker 2: is so good in the show and so hard to break,
- 48:36Speaker 2: so emotional.
- 48:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I never would have expected to tear up watching
- 48:43Speaker 5: kurs Child, but I did because of that scene and
- 48:46Speaker 5: Snape scene too when he sacrifices himself. So that was
- 48:53Speaker 5: and it's also very real. Even though many you know,
- 48:56Speaker 5: many of us, I include myself, don't you know, necessarily
- 48:59Speaker 5: consider Curse Child Cannon. It is something that actually happened,
- 49:03Speaker 5: So they're revisiting, you know, something that is obviously you know,
- 49:09Speaker 5: part of the story is canon. And that's why I
- 49:11Speaker 5: think it means so much to to to people when
- 49:14Speaker 5: they when they see it, because it's not something they
- 49:16Speaker 5: made up. It's actually like a recap and revisiting this
- 49:20Speaker 5: thing that is so crucial in story and so important
- 49:23Speaker 5: and so heartbreaking. So I think it's a it's an
- 49:27Speaker 5: equally beautiful and and sad mm hmm.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 49:34Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 49:35Speaker 1: I didn't know how I like felt about this scene
- 49:36Speaker 1: the first time I watched it, because I'm like, man,
- 49:39Speaker 1: I don't know if I like the idea of them
- 49:42Speaker 1: like going back in time and like watching the murders happen.
- 49:49Speaker 1: But then there is something about that scene and just
- 49:54Speaker 1: kind of what it means for like Harry to kind of,
- 49:58Speaker 1: you know, obviously he was there the first there's time too,
- 50:01Speaker 1: but as a baby and doesn't remember it, and just.
- 50:05Speaker 4: It's I don't know.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I think maybe I still don't know how I feel
- 50:08Speaker 1: about it, like from a plot standpoint.
- 50:13Speaker 4: But the way that it's done in the show is
- 50:15Speaker 4: so good.
- 50:16Speaker 1: I can't imagine that part not being there, So yeah,
- 50:22Speaker 1: I don't I don't know. I think we talked about
- 50:24Speaker 1: that a little bit when we've talked about Chirschild before,
- 50:26Speaker 1: about like there are certain things in that show that
- 50:29Speaker 1: you kind of are end up being okay with just
- 50:32Speaker 1: because of how well it's done in like a play,
- 50:35Speaker 1: like in the play production, the theatrical production.
- 50:38Speaker 4: It can kind of help you.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Maybe like get over some issues you may have with
- 50:44Speaker 1: certain parts of it. But yeah, I don't know how.
- 50:48Speaker 1: I don't know how I feel about this. I think
- 50:50Speaker 1: it's because I like worry for Harry, like this is
- 50:53Speaker 1: a very traumatic thing, right, I mean, it literally is
- 50:57Speaker 1: something that has traumatized his whole life. And one of
- 51:02Speaker 1: the things that I liked about it. Initially was he
- 51:07Speaker 1: was a baby, and so he was not going to
- 51:09Speaker 1: remember anything about that night. You know, he had glimpses,
- 51:13Speaker 1: right of like hearing having dreams and stuff with his
- 51:16Speaker 1: mother screaming and all this kind of stuff, but like
- 51:19Speaker 1: the full memory wasn't necessarily there because he was a baby.
- 51:25Speaker 1: And so then now as an adult, he's like seeing
- 51:27Speaker 1: it and experiencing it. I just think about like opening
- 51:30Speaker 1: up these old wounds and stuff like that, and I
- 51:34Speaker 1: just were like, I don't know, but I understand the.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but you can also see of it as him
- 51:42Speaker 5: having closure, like finally, you know, like for him, I
- 51:47Speaker 5: think it's also I don't want to say comforting, but
- 51:50Speaker 5: it's it's somehow like you know, he always had he
- 51:53Speaker 5: always had this you know, question of what happened that night,
- 51:57Speaker 5: and you know, he obviously, like you said, he didn't
- 51:59Speaker 5: remember other than some screams, and so I think it's
- 52:02Speaker 5: also gave him closure on that on that and I
- 52:05Speaker 5: think it made him being able to like move forward
- 52:09Speaker 5: to the next chapter in his life. He seems to
- 52:11Speaker 5: be very by the end of the play, he seems
- 52:14Speaker 5: to be very happy where things are going and at
- 52:16Speaker 5: peace with everything. So I think for him it was
- 52:20Speaker 5: something that some ways he needed to see or he
- 52:24Speaker 5: needed to witness in one way or another, even if
- 52:28Speaker 5: it was hard, because it would help help him develop
- 52:31Speaker 5: later on and move forward from that.
- 52:34Speaker 3: And you know, turn the page.
- 52:36Speaker 2: And it's such a moment of like he's such a fixer,
- 52:40Speaker 2: like he needs to solve everything and be the savior
- 52:43Speaker 2: of every moment, and just him having to kind of
- 52:47Speaker 2: sit there and realize this has already.
- 52:48Speaker 4: I can't say. I can't say that, I can't change that.
- 52:52Speaker 2: It's such a big thing for him, I think.
- 52:55Speaker 5: Mm hmm. And having everyone with him too, because he's
- 52:59Speaker 5: not alone in that moment.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So, as I mentioned before, we have that
- 53:09Speaker 2: big jump from nineteen ninety four to twenty twenty with
- 53:14Speaker 2: Halloween events. Noticeably in book five and book six, this
- 53:21Speaker 2: pattern drops off and we don't get the big Halloween night.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Something in the plot happens that said. I wanted to
- 53:35Speaker 2: kind of go through and see what you guys think
- 53:39Speaker 2: could have been those Halloween events, like what maybe in
- 53:44Speaker 2: the timeline would work and what maybe could have been
- 53:52Speaker 2: originally planned for Halloween, and then maybe that little detail
- 53:56Speaker 2: got the ax. I have a couple ideas which I'll share.
- 54:03Speaker 2: So for nineteen ninety five Book five, my immediate thought
- 54:09Speaker 2: is Harry dreaming of the Department of Mysteries and maybe
- 54:13Speaker 2: like the first time he dreams that could have been
- 54:17Speaker 2: around that October timeline. Possibly m.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Something deceiving right kind.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Of fits the bill because he doesn't really understand the
- 54:29Speaker 2: dream and it's kind of like weird, so a whole
- 54:34Speaker 2: not as it seems moment. Every time I say not
- 54:40Speaker 2: as it seems, the Wizards of Waverley Place theme song
- 54:43Speaker 2: goes in my head.
- 54:52Speaker 7: Oh high school flashbacks.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. What do you guys think? Are
- 55:00Speaker 2: there any other events that it could have maybe been?
- 55:08Speaker 4: See? I mean, I'm not I'm not sure.
- 55:10Speaker 1: I like that one, and I was I was kind
- 55:12Speaker 1: of thinking, yeah, something along the Department of Mysteries because
- 55:15Speaker 1: obviously that then becomes this bigger thing and obviously, you know,
- 55:23Speaker 1: the whole like attack and everything on mister Weasley like
- 55:27Speaker 1: couldn't have happened that early, like that early.
- 55:30Speaker 4: But that's like also.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Something that's kind of like that Halloween type event, you know,
- 55:34Speaker 1: of it being not exactly what it seems right and
- 55:38Speaker 1: being this bigger thing that has a bigger consequence thing,
- 55:43Speaker 1: but obviously in a timeline perspective wouldn't work that early
- 55:47Speaker 1: in the years in Christmas time. But it's not that
- 55:52Speaker 1: far off, really, right, It's only a couple of months.
- 55:54Speaker 1: But that was kind of the first thing I thought of,
- 55:57Speaker 1: so similar to you with the Department of Mysteries, which.
- 56:00Speaker 2: That has like very similar tones to all the other
- 56:04Speaker 2: things from the other books. When you think about Christmas
- 56:07Speaker 2: on the closed ward and they see the guy there,
- 56:11Speaker 2: I forget his name, but he like wasn't speaking, and
- 56:17Speaker 2: then they said something like he was starting to regain speaking,
- 56:23Speaker 2: and then the plant is delivered and they like witness
- 56:26Speaker 2: the plant being delivered for him and he's getting like flowers,
- 56:30Speaker 2: but really it's the plant that strangles them later, right,
- 56:33Speaker 2: So like that all has that same sort of tone
- 56:37Speaker 2: of looking a certain way and then being a lot
- 56:40Speaker 2: more sinister than what it appears.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Mm hm hmm.
- 56:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can't think of anything for book five,
- 56:56Speaker 5: like could be maybe Umbridge, but just as just as
- 56:59Speaker 5: a whole speaking of deceiving, being deceiving and being something
- 57:03Speaker 5: you're not and just you know, sugarcoating pure evil, like
- 57:08Speaker 5: she was probably one of Harry's detention periods, but a
- 57:15Speaker 5: lot of it, a lot, a lot of the things,
- 57:17Speaker 5: these things that happened are happening inside Harry's head. Such
- 57:21Speaker 5: a psychological plotline year five. So I think, you know,
- 57:27Speaker 5: I'm kind of going to echo on that his dreams
- 57:32Speaker 5: because obviously not everything is what it seems, and definitely
- 57:38Speaker 5: that's what Harry was living through his dreams. That obviously
- 57:41Speaker 5: also was you know, was being triggered by Voldemort slowly
- 57:46Speaker 5: starting to like kind of get into his head and
- 57:49Speaker 5: trying to manipulate him and trying to like so I
- 57:52Speaker 5: think it's a good it's a good theory that, you know,
- 57:55Speaker 5: Harry's dreams could have been on Halloween one of his
- 57:59Speaker 5: dreams least.
- 58:01Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, for nineteen ninety six, book six, I've got
- 58:07Speaker 2: a couple theories here. One of the first things that
- 58:11Speaker 2: came to mind was Katie Bell getting cursed by the Locket,
- 58:17Speaker 2: which happens on a Hogsmead weekend, and Hogsmead trips typically
- 58:21Speaker 2: seemed to start around October Halloween ish time. I know
- 58:27Speaker 2: in the movie there's snow and stuff, but that's a
- 58:30Speaker 2: movie ism, so who knows, not unheard of test snow
- 58:35Speaker 2: on Halloween. But yeah, this moment for me, I feel
- 58:38Speaker 2: like also fits the bill for looking a certain way
- 58:43Speaker 2: and not being you know, because we don't know that
- 58:46Speaker 2: it's Draco who gave the locket, and the lockett is
- 58:50Speaker 2: kind of not even the worst thing that Draco's up
- 58:55Speaker 2: to anyway, as we find out later, So it's got
- 58:59Speaker 2: kind of some of those lag.
- 59:04Speaker 1: That was the one I actually thought of too, because
- 59:07Speaker 1: it's like, I think that it's exactly like you said,
- 59:11Speaker 1: it's it's just another example of it's not exactly what
- 59:14Speaker 1: it seems, and it's very integral to the whole mystery
- 59:20Speaker 1: of what happens in the book and like the plot
- 59:23Speaker 1: of the book and where the book goes, and it's
- 59:25Speaker 1: one of those situations where it looks like it's just
- 59:27Speaker 1: the scene of something happening, but it really is so
- 59:30Speaker 1: much more important than that. And so I agree, and
- 59:36Speaker 1: I think also right, I do think it is more
- 59:38Speaker 1: of a movieism that we're seeing it in the snow
- 59:41Speaker 1: and at Christmas time, because I agree that Hogsmead is
- 59:46Speaker 1: more of this a fall and that's kind of when
- 59:49Speaker 1: they start going to hogs me it is like in
- 59:51Speaker 1: the Fall, and I can see that happening around October.
- 59:58Speaker 2: The other thing I thought of for book six is
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: the scene of Malfoy crying in the boy's bathroom and
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: the use of sectums, because it's kind of a few
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: different things happening there. You've got the Draco moment of Okay,
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: what in the world is going on here with Draco?
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Something's happening, And then you've got the moment where the
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: Prince's book goes from being this useful tool to kind
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: of sinister and like that ooh, maybe we shouldn't be
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: trusting this person moment after Harry uses a spell and
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: finds out exactly what it does. You also have snapes reaction,
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: which is planning the seed for us eventually finding out
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: he is the inventor of the spell and he is
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: the Prince. So there's some of those different tie ins.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: It reminds me a lot of Book one Halloween in
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: that way.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you have this such this simple, simple moment, but
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: when you really kind of like peel back the layers
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: of that moment, just yeah, just what you said. I mean,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: it starts planning the seed of just the emotional turmoil
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: that Draco's going through, And I think it's like the
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: first time we really see him kind of break and
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: start to see that cracks in that and really kind
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: of start to see the Yeah, there's the toll that
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: it's taking on him, and that's obviously important for later
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: books Curse.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Child, like, it's just it really starts to set up
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: just his arc.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Really, I won't call it a redemption art because I
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: know people have issues with Draco having like a redemption arc,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: but it's the start of his arc.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: And yeah, exactly what you said.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I mean, it's such a foreshadow of finding out later
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: that snape is the Half Blood Prints, and it's one
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: of the those things where it's like when you finish
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: the book and you learn everything, it's like one of
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: those moments you can go back to and be like,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: this was being plotted, This was being plotted, and this
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: was being plotted. And exactly what you said is that
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: completely makes up these Halloween events. They all are about
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: these little things, even if in the moment it doesn't
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: seem like it's a big deal.
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: So yeah, I like that one too.
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: There's always this underlying event that kind of encompasses everything
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: and it's like you don't see it, but it's there,
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: and it's like revealed at a later stage in the book.
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: So yeah, I think, yeah, I think it's a good point.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So after I kind of was looking through this,
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: I was searching to see if I could find anything
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: about timelines and if any of these actually matched up.
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: In that search, I stumbled across some great essays about
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: exactly this, the Halloween pattern in the books and those
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: missing halloweens that Irvin from the Three Broomsticks podcast wrote.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: His online writings are under the name h P Boy thirteen.
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: And Yeah, he wrote this series of essays and actually
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: looked at the book outline in the History of Magic
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Exhibit Companion book that is from JK. Rowling, and compared
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: that outline to some of the book events that could
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: possibly have fallen in there originally. So some of the
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: things that he brought up, he speculated book five those
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Halloween events could have been two things that we already
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: kind of said. So he echoed my thought of Department
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: misses streams and Nichole's thought of the attack on mister
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: Weasley through ni Ghine's eyes, which that one urban speculates
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: could have originally been planned for October, not December, since
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: in that outline that rolling row she had already moved
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: it from November to December, so it could have been
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: end of October. Could have been pretty close. The other
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: event he points to is the forming of the DA
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: because again, a Hogsmead weekend could have been Halloween. Yeah.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I also think that maybe the fact that these happened,
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: like if it were if it was changed and pushed
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: to December, these specific things had happened could be also
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: you know, a way of JK. Rowling just suggesting that
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: not even Christmas is safe anymore. Not you know, it's
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: not that safe space it was once, and it's you
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: know it's kind of like yeah, so it's kind of like,
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: you know, you're entering this darker world, this darker realm,
- 1:05:11Speaker 5: and he's entering this you know, he's slowly entering into adulthood.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: So you know, it's it's not a bed of roses
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: like you know, it's it's getting heavy. And so this
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: these things happening around such a you know, uh, this
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: this festivity season and where you know, everything's supposed to
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: be joy and happiness and just warmth, you get this
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: you know this very.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: Yeah, like this very dark thing going on that.
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: I think that's also could be another reason why these
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: were pushed back, so that you know, they could just
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: relate you know, Christmas.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: It's also a.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: Heavy time and it can be heavier and it's going
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: to get worse, and you know, even happens in deathly
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: hollows like you know, so it's it's kind of like
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: and and definitely hollows. It's no because it's Christy. Yeah,
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: it's Christmas. So when they go to Guardy's Hollow, it's
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: Christmas Eve, and so a lot of things happen on
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: those you know, Christmas after the the first four books
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: that are kind of like milder in that sense.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, makes sense.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so book six. Urvin also points to that Katie
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Bell Lockett moment as well in his essays. So it
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: seems like a lot of people are kind of in
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: agreement of some of the things that could have been
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: those plot points.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Yeah, very interesting. It's fascinating how when you take look
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: at this stuff laid out in a timeline, just seeing
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: all of the threads and the similarities and all of that,
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: it's very very cool.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I hadn't thought about it that way. Until you've
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: brought it up and it does make sense, total sense,
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: so good.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: This is why we love these books. That wraps up
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: our main discussion.
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: It's about to leave grab on to the pork Key.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: So for this episode's rotating segment, we decided to do
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: the port Key, which is obviously where we highlight different
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: Wizarding World travel locations or experiences, and we thought that
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: talking about the Forbidden Forest Experience was kind of right
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: in line with the whole spooky theme of a Halloween episode.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: So Harry Potter A Forbidden Forest Experience is a nighttime
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: woodland trail experience that's filled with magical creatures and other
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: magical and interactive encounters from both the Harry Potter and
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: The Fantastic Beast films. So the experience is an outdoor
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: walking path through a literal forest, and along the way
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: you feel just completely immersed through soundscapes and music and
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: dialogue from the film that's kind of pumping around, and
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: when you're walking through the forest, there's like lights and
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: projections and props and animatronics kind of all over the place.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: It just truly brings like the whole experience to life.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: So myself and Amy along with Lizzy from our social
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: media team, had a chance to go to the Forbidden
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Forest Experience all the way back in October of twenty
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: twenty two. We went for a press preview when it
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: opened in Westchester, New York, and so this was actually
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: the first time that the experience had come to the
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: United States, and then since then it's been in other
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: locations as well, and it is back I don't know.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: I think now it is back on the East Coast
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: and Washington, DC area, and I would love to go
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: again at some point because it's so cool and you know,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: you kind of start with Hagrid and Fang. They're right
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: there to you know, guide your way into the forest.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: And as you kind of walk through the trails, we
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: saw magical creatures like headwig and nifflers and boat truckles,
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: and there was pygmy puffs and corners, pixies and werewolves
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: and unicorns and spiders and like everything you can think
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: of was there. Grop even makes an appearance, so you
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: truly feel like you're in the forest. And there's also
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: like some fun interactive elements as you're walking through the paths,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: so you can bow to buckbeak, there's a play area
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: where you can do a wand duel, and there's also
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: fun themed food and merchandise as well, and so it's
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: a really cool experience and I hope to definitely be
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: able to go again, and I definitely recommend if it's
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: coming to a city near you to definitely go. It
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: really is perfect for this time of year and spooky
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: season because you know you're out in.
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: The forest, and.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I think it's one of I mean, I've been fortunate
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: to do a few different Harry Potter experiences over the years,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: but I think this one was definitely one of the
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: coolest ones I've done. And it was one of those
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: ones that like really surprised me and was even better
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: than I kind of imagined that it would be.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know what to expect, but like it
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: took us probably like an hour and a half or
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: more to walk through, Like we really took our time.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: There's a lot to see. I don't know how it
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: was when it opened to the publics Like Nichole said,
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: we went on press night, but they had like the
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: food and drinks was like a little break kind of
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: in the trail, so it was like midway through you
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: could stop get like a hot chocolate cupcakes that sort
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: of thing, and like sit and hang out and eat
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: and then continue on your way, which was really nice.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: They have food set up, so they have like I
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: don't yeah, I don't know, and I don't know, Like obviously,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: we won a couple of years ago, so they could
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: have changed it and you know, updated it since. But
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: they actually have two different kind of places for food.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: So when we went for the press preview, the main
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: food wasn't open for us, but it kind of it
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: was like right, yeah, it was like before you went in,
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: they had it set up like a village, like.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: A little kind of almost like hogsmade.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: Village kind of thing, and that's where they were having
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: like actual food available. And then yeah, halfway through they
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: had some tents set up and we each got I
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: think it was was a hot chocolate. I think it
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: was hot chocolate that was house themed and they had
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: some like cakes and it's all like British food inspired
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: and which is always fun. And then the merch was
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: at the end as well. Unfortunately the merch booth wasn't
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: open for the press preview, but there was we like
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: definitely they had a big kind of tent set up
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: for it, and I've seen some of the merch that
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: they offer since, and it was a little envious that
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: I wasn't able to get to get anything, you know,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: other than some of the little things they gave us
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: as part of the press preview, but.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: The really left in the refrigerator at the hotel.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, I completely forgot about that. So, yeah,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: they gave us as part of like our press package.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: We got a bottle of butter beer. N Yeah, nice
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: collectible one, and we all put it in the fridge
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: at the hotel. You know, we're going to want to
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: crack open a nice cold butter beer.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: And then the next day.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: We checked out and all of us left our butter
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: beer in the fridge.
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: So we were so upset we even called the hotel.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: I made this really awkward phone call and I was like, yeah,
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: there's three bottles in the refrigerator of room such and
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: such and it says butter beer on the label level.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and by unfortunately they were already gone. Oh man,
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: I forgot about that. Oh yeah, that was.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, rep the butter beer. I mean, it's the ones
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: that you can buy. But it was nice because we
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: got it for free. It's like, you know, I wanted
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: to keep it, but yeah, I mean really just such
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: a cool experience. And I'll put a link in the
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: show notes of like the article and the video the
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Amy put together for the coverage that we did when
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: we want if you want to look at that, and
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: there's some pictures in the video is really cool, so
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: I'll put it in our show notes. And there is
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: also you can go to the HP Forbidden Forrest Experience
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: dot com to learn more about the experience and find
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: out you know, where it's currently located and and get
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: tickets and all that fun stuff. And yeah, grab that
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: porky and go.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: It's cool.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: I think it sounds so so interesting, such a nice
- 1:14:15Speaker 5: like immersive like we always talk about the immersiveness, how
- 1:14:18Speaker 5: important it is to us as fans because we love
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: more than anything to be like fully submerged in this
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: world as much as possible. So seeing them use like
- 1:14:27Speaker 5: real forests for these experiences and at night it must
- 1:14:31Speaker 5: be such a magical thing. Unfortunately I haven't been to
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: any of them yet, but they seem I've seen pictures,
- 1:14:38Speaker 5: I've seen posts, I've seen like a lot of you know,
- 1:14:41Speaker 5: on social media and it does seem to be like
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: a very one of a kind experience, and I'm I'm
- 1:14:47Speaker 5: thinking it might be the case of the upcoming Hogwarts
- 1:14:50Speaker 5: Express one that's I think it's next year, thinking it
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: might be something similar to that. So, yeah, it's always
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: so nice to have all of these things like scattered
- 1:15:01Speaker 5: across the globe and just you know, being able to
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: do all of these events and you know, yeah and
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: just immersive experiences that add so much to to to
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: us as fans.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and the good thing about this experience too is
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: I mean it's not you know, specific to America. Like
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: I mentioned, it actually started I believe it was like
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: in if I remember right, I think it started just
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: pulling up the website. I think it started in the
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: UK before it came to America. And it's also been
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: in France actually right now, it's open in France, it's
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: been in Belgium, it's been in Singapore, it's been in Melbourne.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: So it's definitely, Yeah, it's definitely an experience that they're
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: bringing all over and right now. Yeah, if you're in
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: around mont Lawn, France, Virginia, I think that's where Lesberg is.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: That's like the Washington, DC, and then Austin, Texas is
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: where you can get tickets for it now.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: So yeah, it's really cool.
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: And I think the fact that it's set at night,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: like kind of what you were saying, Tom, like, really
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: does help the immersion of it because it's just the
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: way the lights are and the projections.
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: And the sounds. It just looks. Yeah, it's so cool
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: and it looks so real.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: Like I just remember like walking in and yeah, just
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: seeing the big like it wasn't an animatronic but figure
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: of Hagrid and he's got like his back to you
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: and he's kind of walking into the forest and like
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: it really looks like his Hagrid.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: Standing there, you know.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: And even just the things like the way they did
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: the light projection of like the unicorn. It was like
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: back like in the trees, and it looked like the
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: unicorn was like walking through the trees. Yeah, and you
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: know it from from where like the depth perception of it,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: it truly looked yeah, you know, because I feel like
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: I just expect a unicorn to have this weird kind
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: of white glow about it, so it looked so real
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: and you know it's not, but it just looks so
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: real and it was really Yeah, it's really cool. I
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: mean the fact that I went two years ago and
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: I still really remember it, like I'm like I was
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: there clearly hopefully shows like what kind of an impact
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: the experience can have on you. There was a real
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: finale that they did too, which we will spoil it.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: Yeah, well the video. If you watch the video, it
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: will spoil it.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Because I specifically didn't put it in the video. Yeah, okay,
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: they asked us not to spoil it, and we followed
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: that rule and didn't spoil it. Other people did so.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: But it's very cool.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: It's very cool finale, and it's just cool the way
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: that they like obviously, you know, they move it between
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: different forests, and so I love to go again in
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: another location just to see because it's like, I'm sure
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: that they obviously have to tweak things a little bit
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: based on the forests that they're using. And there was
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: like a part in the finale that we're not going
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: to spoil, but made use of the water that was
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: naturally in the forest that we went to. But obviously
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: not every forest is going to have this like perfectly
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: placed water feature.
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: So I'm curious to.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: See how they kind of work around the different landscapes
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: of these different forests you.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: Know that they use.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: But yeah, it's really cool and I hope it's an
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: experience they kind of continue and that people are still
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: going to And yeah, I think that it also, like
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: you were saying, with this new like Hogwarts express experience
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: like it, I know that they could do such a
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: good job because they've done such a great job with
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: these other experiences that they've done. It just helps you
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: to have faith in like every future thing that they do.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's such.
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: A cool experience.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: The fact that it's an actual forest, I think that's
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: kind of like that's amazing because they could have done
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: it like a you know, like a museum or you know,
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: like the Harry Potter exhibition or but the fact that
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: they chose like natural, you know, environments makes it so
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: much better.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: I'm sure. So I love that bit too.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I want to know, I want to know who was
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: like sitting at the table to be like, guys, I
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: have an idea, let's like build the Forbidden Forest like
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: in a forest, right right, like an actual forest, and
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: we're going to make them walk through the actual forest.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: It's perfect it's perfect. It's so perfect. Whoever thought of it? Genius?
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: So great, and yeah, go to the website, check it out.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: Go when it comes near you tag us in your
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: pictures so we can see it.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: In this time of year is like perfect too. The
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: fall like it's it's great.
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: We were all bundled up, we all like I think
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I wore my Slytherin scar so I was able to
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: really get into it now, right, Yeah.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Oh man, going shorts, going shorts in the T shirt.
- 1:20:16Speaker 4: That would be bad though.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: There's too many bugs, tick bite or something like that,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: so I would but yeah, oh my god, oh yeah,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: I'm sure this time of year, and you know, and
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: of course with it moving around to the weather is
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: obviously not going to necessarily be the same, you know,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: especially when they're taking into different countries.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: But yeah, it's so cool.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: And luckily it did not rain for us or snow
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: the night that we went. Yeah, that could maybe put
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: a bit of a damper on this experience. That's the
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: one kind of I guess, if I'm going to say
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: any negativity of it is that obviously it's an outdoor event, right,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: so you do have to kind of be mindful of
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: the fact that you may experience mother nature you're on
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: this experience. That's probably the only negative though that I
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: can think of. And I feel like in the last
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: two years, like it's probably even improved from when we
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: went two years ago.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: Yeah, so yeah, go.
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Very cool.
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: So nios.
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: So on our last episode we ask you what do
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: you think your wand would and core say about you?
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: So we got a response from Felicia and she says
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: Burpotter Moore. My one wood is acacia, which makes once
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: that often refuse to produce magic for any but their owner,
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: withhold their best effects from all but those most gifted
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: and are often underrated. My core is unicorn hair, which
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: again makes for the most faithful of all ones, which
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: usually remains strongly attached to their first owner and are
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: generally the most difficult to turn to the dark arts.
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: On the one hand, unicorn here generally produces the most
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: consistent magic, but on the other hand, unicorn arms do
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: not make the most powerful ones. I think this combination
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: ties in well with my house Hufflepuff, which values loyalty, kindness,
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: and being dependable, but is often overlooked because its members
- 1:22:18Speaker 5: aren't generally the ones who seek power h Yeah.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: I like that, So thank you, Felicia.
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: And so for our discussion question, we would like to
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: know what do you think happened on the Missing Halloweens
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: and Books five and six.

- 1:23:37Speaker 2: these little things from the series that we can still
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: talk about so many years later. So this was a
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: really fun episode definitely, I mean.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: Happy Halloween, everybody.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: I mean you're listening to this on Halloween, hope you're
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: going trig or treating or giving out some candy and
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: Foween season to end. Yeah, it's my favorite. But kind
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: of excited for us to transition to Christmas a little
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: bit this year.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: So we may have to explore some Christmas events coming
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: up in a couple of months. Yes, we'll go through
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: a timeline for that. Oh.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Tom kind of already sat the stage right saying that,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: you know, in some later books the events kind of
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: start switching from Halloween at Christmas, So.
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: Little discuss more to come for sure.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: All Right, until next time, I'm Amy, I'm Nicole
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: And I'm Tom.
