- 0:59Speaker 3: It's fun.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Kevin mccallaugh, glad to be with you. Christine Nicholas is
- 1:03Speaker 2: back with us, and Christine for me. It was the
- 1:06Speaker 2: second short week in a row. Now this we had
- 1:09Speaker 2: the holiday on Monday, but last week I had the
- 1:12Speaker 2: injury that I was out for a couple of days.
- 1:13Speaker 4: So I've had you're not seeing the.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Bruising that's still there, but we're we're going down inch
- 1:21Speaker 2: by inch, day by day.
- 1:23Speaker 3: But thank you for that.
- 1:24Speaker 2: And yes, I can actually bite into things now, so
- 1:27Speaker 2: I can you know, like I can't eat an apple yet,
- 1:29Speaker 2: but I can bite through a sandwich. So it's you know,
- 1:31Speaker 2: we're getting there one, one little bit at a time.
- 1:35Speaker 2: So we're talking sports tonight, very excited about this, and
- 1:40Speaker 2: I was trying to think, well, what would be a
- 1:42Speaker 2: good thing to bring to the Open. It might be
- 1:44Speaker 2: that on Memorial Day we all went to the America
- 1:48Speaker 2: Dream Uh you know in the swamp lands what they
- 1:52Speaker 2: call it meatlands.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:54Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:55Speaker 2: My my family was intent on playing black light golf.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You have ever played black light mini golf? It's it's
- 2:04Speaker 2: mini golf, but you play it in black light. So
- 2:07Speaker 2: wearing white it like shines purple.
- 2:09Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that sounds fun.
- 2:10Speaker 2: And my son, who has gotten a little bit, he's
- 2:14Speaker 2: he just started dabbling with the golf thing a little bit.
- 2:16Speaker 2: He's a very very good putter, was talking smack. My
- 2:20Speaker 2: bride was talking smack. They were saying how much they
- 2:24Speaker 2: were going to beat everybody by, And I just want
- 2:27Speaker 2: to say that on a par three mini golf putting course,
- 2:31Speaker 2: good old Dad, injuries and all shot a thirty six
- 2:35Speaker 2: on eighteen holes. You do the average. That's that's good.
- 2:39Speaker 2: That's a pretty good score for.
- 2:41Speaker 6: How many holes in one? Did you have?
- 2:43Speaker 3: None?
- 2:44Speaker 6: Oh?
- 2:45Speaker 4: Okay, so't he didn't see. I'm all over the place.
- 2:47Speaker 4: I'll get a hole in one and then I'll have
- 2:48Speaker 4: a five.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Take that back.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I had one at the very end, but I had
- 2:52Speaker 2: I had all The rest of the scorecard was twos
- 2:54Speaker 2: and threes and.
- 2:55Speaker 4: It was.
- 2:57Speaker 6: Windmills. Were there any like things that jumpout?
- 3:00Speaker 7: Uh?
- 3:01Speaker 2: There were a couple of jump scares. If you go
- 3:03Speaker 2: to the geam even play the black Light golf, tell
- 3:05Speaker 2: me what you think of it. I mean, it's not
- 3:07Speaker 2: a super difficult course, but yeah, what it was. What
- 3:10Speaker 2: was fun was like just knowing that just because my
- 3:14Speaker 2: family talks smack the whole day going you, I could
- 3:18Speaker 2: still I could still focus through it, through all of
- 3:20Speaker 2: it and just you know, yeah, slice them for the wind.
- 3:23Speaker 3: So that's what we did.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Nice. Yeah, And when.
- 3:26Speaker 3: We were leaving.
- 3:27Speaker 2: The reason that this got in my mind was as
- 3:29Speaker 2: we were leaving, we're going past the met Life and
- 3:33Speaker 2: you know what the big sign is on the side
- 3:35Speaker 2: of it right now, FIFA World Cup twenty twenty six.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I mean it's in huge pass.
- 3:40Speaker 6: If you didn't know, if we didn't know.
- 3:43Speaker 3: So now it's uh.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And my my middle guy, Jonathan, he was like, wow,
- 3:48Speaker 2: the World Cup's going to be here.
- 3:49Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, he goes, what is it? I'm like,
- 3:53Speaker 3: I love you. You're a true American kid. You don't
- 3:55Speaker 3: know what soccer is, and you and you want to
- 3:56Speaker 3: know more.
- 3:57Speaker 2: That's great.
- 3:58Speaker 6: It is great.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Over the they know what soccer is, but Americans were
- 4:02Speaker 2: still kind of dragging our feet when it comes to it.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe maybe after this it'll change a little bit.
- 4:08Speaker 4: And as long as we don't have to call it football,
- 4:10Speaker 4: because then it's really going to get condected.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Now you're going to start family fights. We don't call
- 4:14Speaker 3: the cat in this house, it's soccer.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Sadly, wow, Well it's been a you know, look, we
- 4:22Speaker 4: are moving into the Tony season, right, So the Tonys
- 4:25Speaker 4: are next Sunday, and so I'm trying to see as
- 4:28Speaker 4: many shows as possible. So, uh, last Saturday I saw
- 4:32Speaker 4: two shows, The Jellica Ball Cats, Yeah and then it
- 4:36Speaker 4: was it was interesting. I mean, it was very it
- 4:40Speaker 4: was very exciting, and the music is great. Andre de
- 4:45Speaker 4: Shields kind of like stole the show. It's you know,
- 4:50Speaker 4: but it's cats, I mean, and if you love cats,
- 4:52Speaker 4: you'll love it.
- 4:55Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 4:55Speaker 2: So anyway, Buddy Buckley said she thought it was well done,
- 4:58Speaker 2: so you know.
- 5:00Speaker 6: It is well done. It is.
- 5:02Speaker 3: You have to take away well.
- 5:05Speaker 4: And then afterwards we jumped into the Celebrity Autobiography, which
- 5:10Speaker 4: is sort of a filler show at the Schubert Theater,
- 5:12Speaker 4: and it is it was just ridiculously funny. It was
- 5:15Speaker 4: about celebrity autobiographies. And then these these stars just go
- 5:21Speaker 4: on stage and they read from the autobiography the words
- 5:24Speaker 4: that these folks wrote, like Neil Sidaka and biographies, and
- 5:30Speaker 4: they just read passages from them. But they sound so
- 5:33Speaker 4: ridiculous that it's hilarious, like Gwyneth Paltrow on the Red
- 5:37Speaker 4: from well, Gwyneth Paltrow, Neil Sidaka, David Hasselhoff, Debbie Reynolds,
- 5:43Speaker 4: Eddie Fisher, and Elizabeth Taylor.
- 5:45Speaker 6: And so they did a mash up with those.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Three was as you know, Debbie Reynolds, Eddie Fisher left
- 5:51Speaker 4: Debbie Reynolds for Elizabeth Taylor. So then all three have
- 5:53Speaker 4: written autobiographies and they go to the passage that addresses
- 5:58Speaker 4: this tryst or this issue, and it's just so funny.
- 6:03Speaker 2: But they didn't long with any of Carrie's autobiography where
- 6:07Speaker 2: she talks about how much it damaged her for the
- 6:09Speaker 2: rest of.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Her Oh my gosh, no, but that could be part two.
- 6:13Speaker 4: And then this Wednesday I was able to see I
- 6:16Speaker 4: think one of the best plays I've seen in a
- 6:18Speaker 4: long time. It's called Bolisters. Kenny Leon is the director.
- 6:24Speaker 4: It is about it's no intermission in ninety minutes, but
- 6:28Speaker 4: it's about like a community that is coming together to
- 6:32Speaker 4: whether or not they should have a stop sign.
- 6:34Speaker 7: Right.
- 6:35Speaker 6: So these are neighbors that are.
- 6:36Speaker 4: All nice to each other, but then when they have
- 6:38Speaker 4: to advocate, they get really kind of nasty and funny.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Richard Thomas is the chairman of the historical Board, which
- 6:47Speaker 4: this is so Richard Thomas, as you know from John
- 6:49Speaker 4: Boy on the Waltons. He is a brilliant actor and
- 6:53Speaker 4: he comes across as this really sweet.
- 6:55Speaker 6: Nice guy. You know, everybody loves him. He's the realtor.
- 6:58Speaker 4: He knows everybody's business, going to be in his seventies,
- 7:02Speaker 4: but he looks amazing and he's got a lot of energy.
- 7:05Speaker 6: He's you know, running around during this.
- 7:08Speaker 4: It was so much fun and so well written that
- 7:13Speaker 4: I couldn't stop laughing, and I haven't stopped thinking about it.
- 7:17Speaker 4: I think it's going to be one of these sort
- 7:20Speaker 4: of like quiet winners at.
- 7:22Speaker 6: The Tonys ballisters.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Yes, like the things that you put on a porch,
- 7:28Speaker 4: a ballister, And that was one of the issues because
- 7:30Speaker 4: of course a handicapped person needed to change or to
- 7:34Speaker 4: add a ramp. So of course the historical society, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 4: wants the ramp to be in the back of the house,
- 7:40Speaker 4: but then the person can't get there, but they don't
- 7:42Speaker 4: want it to look bad.
- 7:43Speaker 6: You know, it's just these anyway, So that.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Was my week, and then of course it's been exciting
- 7:50Speaker 4: just watching basketball. So I'm and we had the Reds
- 7:53Speaker 4: and the Mets. Nick and I went to, your family is.
- 7:56Speaker 3: So hardcore baseball?
- 7:58Speaker 2: I was wondering, Yeah, the Nicks were generating excitement.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Oh no, they're big.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Well, the funny thing is Nick's sister is a huge
- 8:06Speaker 4: Knicks fan, always has been, so we get we get
- 8:09Speaker 4: it from her with the Knicks. I've always been a
- 8:11Speaker 4: Knicks fan, but we traditionally do follow baseball more closely.
- 8:15Speaker 2: We just haven't had a lot to cheer about for
- 8:17Speaker 2: most of your adult life.
- 8:19Speaker 3: The Knicks.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Yeah, the last time they nineteen ninety nine, well the last.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Time they won were in the seventies. They weren't They
- 8:25Speaker 2: were to the finals three times in the nineties or right, Yeah,
- 8:29Speaker 2: they had good run.
- 8:29Speaker 6: So you know what, you can ask Governor Hokeel she
- 8:32Speaker 6: now knows what.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yes, s Yeah, there's ninety three, ninety four, nine, for sure,
- 8:39Speaker 4: none of those were winners.
- 8:40Speaker 6: We have to go back to seventy three.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's all the way back there. So this is
- 8:44Speaker 3: a long time coming.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But I will tell you, as a former college level
- 8:47Speaker 2: coach and as someone who followed the NBA for a
- 8:50Speaker 2: long time, I think that the Knicks are not only
- 8:52Speaker 2: going to win, I think they're going to bring it
- 8:54Speaker 2: home pretty quickly. I think they're going to maybe one
- 8:57Speaker 2: or two losses max they could sweep.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, it's different. They don't have show voter. You know,
- 9:03Speaker 4: it's really a nice refreshing change. So it's really a
- 9:07Speaker 4: beautiful thing. So let's go next. Yeah, you know, and
- 9:11Speaker 4: we have. So on our show, we're gonna have Tracy
- 9:13Speaker 4: ne Parant the Tracy Print to talk about the mets,
- 9:16Speaker 4: of course, and then we have a special new guest,
- 9:19Speaker 4: Vicki Tobak, who is the guest curator of the Museum
- 9:22Speaker 4: in Natural History. They have a new exhibit called for
- 9:25Speaker 4: the Win, So it's all about sports memorabilia. I think
- 9:28Speaker 4: it's tucked into the gems and metals part because, as
- 9:31Speaker 4: you know, it's a natural history museum, so.
- 9:33Speaker 3: There's certain metals there.
- 9:34Speaker 4: They're legit metals, yeah, and I'm sure there are rings
- 9:38Speaker 4: with wonderful gemstones and things like that. But we'll learn
- 9:41Speaker 4: about the background of some of those pieces and why
- 9:44Speaker 4: they were picked for this exhibition.
- 9:46Speaker 3: That'd be so cool.
- 9:47Speaker 2: That's the American Museum of Natural History, one of my
- 9:50Speaker 2: bride and kids favorite museums to go to, so highly
- 9:53Speaker 2: recommend that. Got a lot to get to. She's Christine
- 9:56Speaker 2: and Kevin will also have tips for your weekend.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Don't go anywhere.
- 10:02Speaker 5: What a little moonline can do.
- 10:04Speaker 6: It's Radio Night Life, yours Kevin.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Mccullor, welcome in. It is Radio Night Live, so glad
- 10:10Speaker 2: to have you with us. It's the fun Friday edition.
- 10:13Speaker 2: And that means not only Kevin McCollough is with you,
- 10:15Speaker 2: but that lady right there, the first lady of New
- 10:18Speaker 2: York hospitality, Christine Nicholas.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Welcome back.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Oh so good, so good, so good, and my goodness,
- 10:25Speaker 4: this Friday is so much fun. We've got one of
- 10:30Speaker 4: our funnest guests coming back. Tracy the Fork me parnt
- 10:34Speaker 4: Yea is joining us here. The crowd go to the crowd,
- 10:40Speaker 4: so we thought it'd be fun Tracy to have you back, especially,
- 10:44Speaker 4: you know, because you the Mets and the Reds kind
- 10:50Speaker 4: of faced off this week. And of course I have
- 10:52Speaker 4: in the studio.
- 10:54Speaker 6: Kevin here, the biggest Reds fan.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Yeah, one of the biggest Reds fans, and you know,
- 10:58Speaker 4: sports writer and my sports guru here, my little muse
- 11:03Speaker 4: who helps me with all the sports stuff so I
- 11:05Speaker 4: don't say anything wrong. And he and Tracy, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 4: went to the Reds Mets game game three, after Reds won.
- 11:14Speaker 6: The first two games.
- 11:14Speaker 4: And I'll let Tracy take it away what happened in
- 11:17Speaker 4: that ninth inning, Tracy new Parent, Welcome back.
- 11:20Speaker 8: Well, all I can say is that I was seeing
- 11:22Speaker 8: red after the first two games, but.
- 11:27Speaker 5: Fortunately, you know it was funny.
- 11:29Speaker 8: I was talking about the fact that the Diaz had
- 11:32Speaker 8: left and how as the closer, he was always bringing
- 11:35Speaker 8: me to the edge of my seat because he never had.
- 11:38Speaker 5: A clean inning.
- 11:38Speaker 8: It was always like he takes you to the edge
- 11:41Speaker 8: of the cliff and then he somehow gets out of it. Well,
- 11:43Speaker 8: sure enough, our current closer gets to the point where
- 11:50Speaker 8: you know, we're winning by four to two, but he
- 11:53Speaker 8: loads the bases with walks and then miraculously he strikes
- 11:57Speaker 8: out the side.
- 11:58Speaker 5: So it was really tipped to going through the tulips.
- 12:00Speaker 8: It was a nerve wracking but fortunately the Mets prevailed,
- 12:05Speaker 8: and the Mets are twenty three and thirty three as
- 12:07Speaker 8: we speak here today. But I've been to eight games
- 12:10Speaker 8: and they've won six of them, so I'm six and two,
- 12:12Speaker 8: so my percentage is pretty good.
- 12:14Speaker 5: When I see them, I think they're a pretty damn
- 12:16Speaker 5: good team. So go figure.
- 12:18Speaker 2: I'm surprised they haven't seen the custom sent limousines for you, Frank,
- 12:23Speaker 2: Tracy to just get you there for that.
- 12:25Speaker 8: Somebody should contact Steve Coen and let them know that
- 12:27Speaker 8: I'm available.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I was about to say.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Well, Tracy, also, you have a big week coming up
- 12:34Speaker 4: you've got your better half, beautiful Amy, she's going to be.
- 12:39Speaker 6: Celebrating with you.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Well, she just celebrated her birthday, but the two of
- 12:43Speaker 4: you are going to be celebrating fifty years of matrimonial bliss.
- 12:47Speaker 8: It's pretty amazing. It's you know, it's a half century.
- 12:52Speaker 8: And the interesting thing is we were married a Memorial
- 12:54Speaker 8: Day of the bicentennial year, so it was very patriotic,
- 12:58Speaker 8: you know, it was really that Yearmorial Day was May thirtieth,
- 13:02Speaker 8: and so you know, with stars and stripes forever. It
- 13:05Speaker 8: was really a wonderful occasion. Little did we know that
- 13:08Speaker 8: fifty years later we'd be still together and happy and
- 13:12Speaker 8: with and being grandparents and so on and so forth.
- 13:15Speaker 8: So it's been a wonderful ride and we'll continue to
- 13:18Speaker 8: be me So I love very forward to the seventy
- 13:20Speaker 8: fifth anniversary.
- 13:21Speaker 3: By centennial and a half it, Yeah, I.
- 13:24Speaker 8: Don't know if I'll be around for the seventy fifth anniversary,
- 13:26Speaker 8: but I'm still gonna, you know, plan for it in
- 13:28Speaker 8: my mind.
- 13:28Speaker 5: So good tough.
- 13:31Speaker 4: So since it's fresh in your mind, because you can
- 13:33Speaker 4: always remember your wedding day, do you remember it being
- 13:37Speaker 4: like more patrionic for the bi centennial because I'm beginning
- 13:42Speaker 4: if I'm starting to feel the rise of excitement, right,
- 13:47Speaker 4: and Kevin and I have been. We've been focused on
- 13:50Speaker 4: this for the two fifty you know, for many many
- 13:54Speaker 4: shows we've been promoting it, and it just feels like
- 13:56Speaker 4: now everybody's starting to wake up that there's something exciting.
- 14:00Speaker 4: But you know, Tracy, since you were there, what do
- 14:03Speaker 4: you think, what's the vibe?
- 14:05Speaker 5: I think the bisentennial was incredible.
- 14:08Speaker 8: If you remember, they had these Bisonennial minutes on the
- 14:11Speaker 8: television two, so you were constantly seeing these messages, and
- 14:15Speaker 8: I think it was very uplifting. I remember it being
- 14:19Speaker 8: very enjoyable and educational too. I think a lot of
- 14:22Speaker 8: people were learning things about the country that they didn't know,
- 14:25Speaker 8: and I think there was a little less divisiveness at
- 14:27Speaker 8: that point. Although you know, we've never had a moment
- 14:30Speaker 8: of total calm. You know, that's a misnomer. People think
- 14:33Speaker 8: that you always have everything in order, and that's never
- 14:36Speaker 8: the case. There's always this array in the world and
- 14:38Speaker 8: that will always be the case.
- 14:40Speaker 2: In the Continental Congress two hundred and fifty years ago,
- 14:42Speaker 2: when they were fighting about how we're going to start
- 14:44Speaker 2: the country, they used to wrap each other over the
- 14:46Speaker 2: head with their canes. So yeah, yeah, it's never been
- 14:50Speaker 2: like total peace.
- 14:52Speaker 5: You know.
- 14:52Speaker 8: The other thing too, is, you know, we didn't have
- 14:54Speaker 8: social media really in nineteen seventy six, so it was
- 14:58Speaker 8: a different time. We didn't have the cell phones, and
- 15:02Speaker 8: we didn't have all the other things. We did have
- 15:04Speaker 8: an instant gratification when it came to pieces of information,
- 15:08Speaker 8: and we didn't have all these other avenues to get
- 15:10Speaker 8: angry at each other, so it was a little more civil,
- 15:14Speaker 8: I think.
- 15:15Speaker 4: But we also have the World Cup, which I think
- 15:17Speaker 4: is taking a little of the oxygen out of the
- 15:20Speaker 4: patriotism that we have. Look, I'm excited about the World Cup,
- 15:23Speaker 4: and tonight's episode is really a lot about sports because
- 15:28Speaker 4: not only do we have Tracy the forkknee print on,
- 15:31Speaker 4: but coming up later we're going to have a guest
- 15:33Speaker 4: on from the Museum of Natural History because they have
- 15:36Speaker 4: a new exhibit called for the Win and it's about
- 15:38Speaker 4: sports memorabilia, so that'll be exciting. But keeping to sports
- 15:43Speaker 4: for a second, I mean, we've got the Knicks. I mean,
- 15:46Speaker 4: this is a different kind of Knix team, one that
- 15:48Speaker 4: I've never experienced before. But Tracy, you've been a long
- 15:52Speaker 4: time Knicks fan. You've been to many of the games.
- 15:54Speaker 4: You know, what's your prediction for this big now that
- 15:58Speaker 4: they're going.
- 15:59Speaker 8: To the Big Dance, I go back to the Willis Reed,
- 16:02Speaker 8: will Clyde, Frasier, Earl, the Pro Monroe era.
- 16:06Speaker 5: I mean those are my favorite teams.
- 16:08Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, well, nineteen seventeen seventy three, those were
- 16:12Speaker 8: incredible teams. They really played team ball. It was a
- 16:16Speaker 8: very different game in those times. In those days, you
- 16:18Speaker 8: didn't have the three point shot, but the teamwork was impeccable,
- 16:23Speaker 8: and that team captured New York. This team is much
- 16:27Speaker 8: more athletic. It's a different game today than it was then.
- 16:31Speaker 8: They are playing at a very high level right now,
- 16:34Speaker 8: and it's really exciting to see. The ball movement is excellent.
- 16:38Speaker 8: They're playing tough defense, and they hit their three point
- 16:40Speaker 8: shots like they're nothing. It's very impressive. So I'm keeping
- 16:45Speaker 8: my fingers crossed. I felt at the beginning of the
- 16:48Speaker 8: playoffs the Knicks were like a top five team. I
- 16:50Speaker 8: felt that they had had a kind of an up
- 16:52Speaker 8: and down season. Obviously, they were a very good team,
- 16:56Speaker 8: but I felt that maybe they weren't quite at the
- 16:58Speaker 8: elite level. But they've been playing at a elite level
- 17:00Speaker 8: now and they've really made you believe that they can
- 17:03Speaker 8: win the championship, and I think at this point if
- 17:05Speaker 8: they'd own it'll be a letdown.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Can I just put a parenthetical thought in there for
- 17:10Speaker 2: a second, because my bride's been saying to meet Miami
- 17:13Speaker 2: has been saying, you know, oh, it's so amazing how
- 17:16Speaker 2: well the Knicks did this year, and I'm saying, yeah,
- 17:18Speaker 2: but they've actually been on the ascendancy for a couple
- 17:21Speaker 2: of seasons, haven't they, Tracy. I mean, they was it
- 17:24Speaker 2: last year of the year before they went further in
- 17:26Speaker 2: the playoffs than people thought they would, and you kept
- 17:29Speaker 2: kind of a core foundation of some good chemistry between
- 17:33Speaker 2: the players, So I'm not totally surprised that they're doing
- 17:36Speaker 2: as well as they are. I mean, they're playing lights
- 17:39Speaker 2: out in the playoffs, like we didn't see. You didn't
- 17:42Speaker 2: have this team playing most of the season. But what
- 17:44Speaker 2: they're doing right now, it's not being matched anywhere.
- 17:47Speaker 8: There seems to be a chemistry in the team that
- 17:50Speaker 8: really is genuine, and I think they've done a great
- 17:54Speaker 8: job constructing this team, and Jalen Brunson, you know, he is, like,
- 17:59Speaker 8: he's a great you're a player because it's all effort
- 18:02Speaker 8: and character. You know, you can see he's not a
- 18:04Speaker 8: tall guy. He can't dominate anybody physically, but he's indomitable
- 18:08Speaker 8: with his spirit.
- 18:09Speaker 5: You know, he just.
- 18:10Speaker 8: Goes out there and he's got a focus that's incredible
- 18:14Speaker 8: and a drive and he's relentless. And it's great also
- 18:17Speaker 8: that they use the whole team now, they use the
- 18:19Speaker 8: whole branch so that they don't run the top guys
- 18:23Speaker 8: into the ground where they're just gasping for air at
- 18:25Speaker 8: the end of the game. They have some kick left
- 18:27Speaker 8: in their.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Steps, so when you have a thirty five point lead
- 18:29Speaker 2: at halftime, it allows you to play some of the
- 18:31Speaker 2: lesser players.
- 18:33Speaker 8: You know, it's we've never we're all pitching ourselves because
- 18:36Speaker 8: as Nick fans, we've always had to, you know, to
- 18:38Speaker 8: struggle for everything. It's never come totally easy. And this
- 18:42Speaker 8: team is making It's like, what's going on here. They're
- 18:45Speaker 8: just going out there and they're they're just dominating in
- 18:48Speaker 8: a way that's historically it's never been the case.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Starts on defense.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Let's keep it going. Four more wins.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Really well on the defensive end of things, and that's
- 18:55Speaker 2: turning into easy opportunities. At the other end, Tracy, stick around.
- 18:59Speaker 2: We got take a break. We're going to come right back.
- 19:01Speaker 2: We're talking sports tonight on Fun Friday.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And now I'm from New York back to radio night Life.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You're Kevin McCulla.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Welcome back. She's Christine Nicholas.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I'm Kevin McCulla, and our guest is one of our
- 19:19Speaker 2: favorite guys. In fact, we don't have ab with us tonight.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Christine Normally she would tell us how many appearances Tracy
- 19:26Speaker 2: has made, but I know he's got like four or
- 19:28Speaker 2: five jackets by now. If it takes five to catch
- 19:30Speaker 2: your first jacket, Tracy's been around at least four or
- 19:33Speaker 2: five times that.
- 19:34Speaker 4: So yeah, and Tracy was also at our fifth anniversary
- 19:38Speaker 4: in person in studio, so that was awfully nice to
- 19:42Speaker 4: have both Tracy and Amy and yeah studio tonight, so
- 19:46Speaker 4: we have.
- 19:47Speaker 6: Our resident, our resident sports expert.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Speaking of Amy and Tracy, you both were on a
- 19:52Speaker 4: celebrity cruise, the Legends Bermuda Cruz, but it was baseball themed.
- 19:57Speaker 6: I mean, tell us about that.
- 19:59Speaker 4: I've always I wondered about these, either the Broadway themed
- 20:02Speaker 4: or the baseball themed cruises.
- 20:04Speaker 6: How did it work out?
- 20:06Speaker 8: It was wonderful. The Celebrity cruise line is terrific. We've
- 20:09Speaker 8: been on two other cruise lines in the past that
- 20:11Speaker 8: were also very good, but this was excellent. The celebrity
- 20:15Speaker 8: aspect for the Baseball was about two hundred people within
- 20:19Speaker 8: the entire cruise.
- 20:20Speaker 5: It wasn't the entire cruise. It wasn't Baseball, but it
- 20:22Speaker 5: was two hundred people within it.
- 20:23Speaker 8: And the people who participated Art Chamsky, who was a
- 20:26Speaker 8: good friend from the sixty nine Mets, Howard Johnson also
- 20:30Speaker 8: from the eighty six Mets, and then you had Mickey Rivers,
- 20:33Speaker 8: who was, you know, a legacy Yankee, Ron Bloomberg, Jesse Barfield,
- 20:39Speaker 8: Charlie Hayes, and Chuck Knoblock and Cliff Johnson and Homer Bush.
- 20:43Speaker 8: That really it was a wonderful group of people. As
- 20:46Speaker 8: a met fin, I had to rib the Yankee guys
- 20:48Speaker 8: a little bit. I'd go over to Jesse Barber.
- 20:50Speaker 3: You can't imagine that happening. I just kept picture it.
- 20:52Speaker 5: I said to Jesse Barfield, you know, Jesse, You'll always
- 20:54Speaker 5: be a Blue Jay to me. You know, he thought that.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Charlie Hayes Ranger.
- 20:59Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, Charlie Hayes, I said, you know the same.
- 21:02Speaker 8: I said, Charlie, He'll always be a Philly in a Rocky.
- 21:05Speaker 8: He put his hand on my shoulder. He was laughing,
- 21:07Speaker 8: you know. I mean, he caught the third out for
- 21:10Speaker 8: one of the Yankee World Series victories. So if everybody
- 21:12Speaker 8: will always remember that, it was a very affable group.
- 21:15Speaker 8: We played the woofleball on a beach in Bermuda, which
- 21:18Speaker 8: was fun. I actually hit the ball and I caught
- 21:21Speaker 8: the ball. Howard Johnson said, you still got it, which
- 21:24Speaker 8: was very nice. You know, I don't know what I got,
- 21:26Speaker 8: but you know, whatever I got was it was a wait.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Wait, wait, back up a second, tracing you prone there
- 21:32Speaker 4: was a baseball game when you got.
- 21:36Speaker 5: No.
- 21:36Speaker 4: But so did Chuck Knoblock catch the ball or what happened?
- 21:40Speaker 6: Or did he win?
- 21:41Speaker 8: He's a very intense guy. Nobody said anything about throwing
- 21:45Speaker 8: the ball at first base, so you know, we're all
- 21:47Speaker 8: very polite.
- 21:49Speaker 7: Uh.
- 21:49Speaker 8: You know, I do know this that that when somebody
- 21:52Speaker 8: got hit by a pitch, I said, what are you?
- 21:54Speaker 8: Roger Clemens and he looked at me. He said, I
- 21:56Speaker 8: hate Roger Clemens. You know, apparently Roger Clemens them at
- 22:00Speaker 8: one point and they may have been teammates on the Yankees,
- 22:03Speaker 8: but he doesn't like Roger Clemens, so that was something
- 22:05Speaker 8: I picked up from.
- 22:07Speaker 5: It was an interesting group they had.
- 22:09Speaker 8: They had Q and a's, they had like a family
- 22:12Speaker 8: feud quizzing thing. They had autograph sessions, they had photography sessions.
- 22:19Speaker 8: So it was fun and I got to sit and
- 22:22Speaker 8: have lunch with a couple of the guys, which was nice.
- 22:24Speaker 8: Mike Paglarulo actually.
- 22:25Speaker 5: One of the Yankees. I forgot to mention him. Very
- 22:28Speaker 5: nice guy.
- 22:28Speaker 8: He was kind of a utility player, but very sweet guy.
- 22:31Speaker 8: And Howard Johnson was terrific. You know, he was an
- 22:35Speaker 8: excellent player in the eighty six Mets. He played also
- 22:39Speaker 8: for Sparky Anderson and the eighty four Tigers, which were
- 22:42Speaker 8: an excellent team. So he was on two World championship
- 22:44Speaker 8: teams within three years in his career.
- 22:47Speaker 5: So it was.
- 22:48Speaker 8: It was a lot of fun. And the weather in
- 22:50Speaker 8: Bermuda was terrific. It's a nice place to go to,
- 22:54Speaker 8: so it was. It was a wonderful way to celebrate
- 22:57Speaker 8: my wife's birthday and our upcoming anniversary of our wedding
- 23:02Speaker 8: fifty year in the years.
- 23:03Speaker 2: That's incredible. You know, you mentioned Mickey Rivers, and I
- 23:06Speaker 2: know he had I think it was two stints with
- 23:08Speaker 2: the Yankees. To this day, I still think Mickey Rivers
- 23:11Speaker 2: was one of the smoothest guys in terms of stealing
- 23:14Speaker 2: second that ever played the game.
- 23:16Speaker 3: I'm curious your thoughts on that.
- 23:18Speaker 8: Well, he certainly was. And he's really a character. I
- 23:20Speaker 8: mean he's very voiciferous, very energetic. Ron Bloomberg also who
- 23:25Speaker 8: was the first guy to be a designated hitter, and.
- 23:28Speaker 5: He's he's a real character.
- 23:30Speaker 8: The interesting thing he and Shamsky both managed in Israel
- 23:34Speaker 8: when they had one year of baseball in Israel and
- 23:36Speaker 8: Bloomberg's team won, Shampsky's came in second, and Shampsky's still
- 23:40Speaker 8: to this day can't understand how his team lost to
- 23:43Speaker 8: Bloomberg because he said Bloomberg didn't know the name of
- 23:45Speaker 8: any of.
- 23:45Speaker 5: The players on the team.
- 23:46Speaker 8: He always said that guy, you know, I have that
- 23:49Speaker 8: guy in left field, I have that guy in center field.
- 23:51Speaker 8: And who's your very favorite player, Ron, Oh, that guy
- 23:54Speaker 8: over there. You know, he didn't even know the name
- 23:56Speaker 8: of his players, yet he managed them to a championship
- 23:58Speaker 8: in that league. So to this day, Shampsky is still
- 24:03Speaker 8: you know, he's envious of the fact that they won
- 24:05Speaker 8: the championship.
- 24:06Speaker 5: I had my baseball glove.
- 24:08Speaker 8: And I brought it and I got it signed by
- 24:10Speaker 8: all the players.
- 24:11Speaker 5: So nice, Quite a nice glove here with all these signatures.
- 24:14Speaker 3: What's the best signature on there in your opinion?
- 24:16Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 24:18Speaker 8: Obviously I love my Mets, so I'll take Howard Johnson
- 24:21Speaker 8: and Shamsky, but they're all great. Actually I had one
- 24:23Speaker 8: before I even went on this trip from Guscasich. Oh wow,
- 24:27Speaker 8: go figure, and Cliff Johnson was on the trip, and
- 24:30Speaker 8: you know, Cliff Johnson and gusc Osich, I had an
- 24:32Speaker 8: incident back in the day. So I kind of like
- 24:35Speaker 8: to had to hold the glove, you know, in a
- 24:37Speaker 8: different direction.
- 24:38Speaker 5: You know, I don't want to see the signature.
- 24:41Speaker 3: You know, Tracy, we're out of time.
- 24:44Speaker 2: But here's to a team game winning streak for the Mets,
- 24:47Speaker 2: just because you appeared on Fun Friday.
- 24:48Speaker 6: And Tracy, thank you on your nineteenth time.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Oh nineteenth nice.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Wow.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Next time I have to do a celebration.
- 24:56Speaker 3: There we go, all right, lemon ripe out of the jacket.
- 25:00Speaker 3: That's it coming right back, says Christine. I'm Kevin Stiga
- 25:08Speaker 3: from New York.
- 25:09Speaker 5: It's Radio Night Live with Kevin McCulloch.
- 25:13Speaker 3: Welcome back.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Kind of a sports theme night tonight on Radio Night
- 25:16Speaker 2: Live on Friday. Christine Nicholas, Kevin McCullough. Glad to be
- 25:20Speaker 2: with you and Christine. I'm excited about this next guest
- 25:24Speaker 2: because all the stuff that they're curating, this is the
- 25:28Speaker 2: kind of stuff I love to go see and just
- 25:31Speaker 2: read about and learn all.
- 25:32Speaker 3: The more I can.
- 25:33Speaker 4: So once you do the honors, i'd be happy to
- 25:36Speaker 4: first time on Radio Night Live, or very pleased to
- 25:39Speaker 4: welcome Vicky Tobak, who is the guest curator at the
- 25:43Speaker 4: American Museum of Natural History their newest exhibit. It's called
- 25:47Speaker 4: for the Win Objects of Sports.
- 25:50Speaker 6: Excellent.
- 25:50Speaker 4: So Vicky, we're very excited and the timing couldn't be
- 25:54Speaker 4: better to have an exhibition about sports memorabilia and all
- 25:58Speaker 4: wonderful things about sports.
- 26:00Speaker 6: How did you come up with this wonderful idea to
- 26:03Speaker 6: do this? Yeah, well, first.
- 26:04Speaker 7: Of all, thank you for having me. It's it's very exciting.
- 26:08Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:09Speaker 7: The idea for this sort of came from the World
- 26:12Speaker 7: Cup coming to Town. The museum had been thinking about
- 26:15Speaker 7: doing something around sports for a long time, and you know,
- 26:18Speaker 7: this World Cup fever is upon us, as is a
- 26:23Speaker 7: lot of you know, New York sports and global sports news.
- 26:27Speaker 7: So we wanted to do something that really celebrates this
- 26:31Speaker 7: kind of culture of winning and bring together objects that represent,
- 26:38Speaker 7: you know, being great across sports. So this actually this
- 26:41Speaker 7: exhibit it's in the Hall of Gems and Minerals, and
- 26:45Speaker 7: it actually ranges over one hundred and fifty years of
- 26:49Speaker 7: sports and more than fifteen different sports. So we're very excited.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Well, I was going to ask how with the World
- 26:58Speaker 4: Cup since you knew about that and invans. You know,
- 27:00Speaker 4: we've been planning this World Cup for over five years. Now,
- 27:04Speaker 4: what are some of the items that people will be
- 27:07Speaker 4: able to see that reflect the World Cup?
- 27:10Speaker 9: Yeah, so we you know, we wanted to make this
- 27:12Speaker 9: a show that showed, you know, what, what is it
- 27:15Speaker 9: that sports have in common and kind of give these
- 27:19Speaker 9: objects around around each sport.
- 27:22Speaker 7: So you know, while we certainly have World Cup, we
- 27:25Speaker 7: also have basketball, football, uh new you know, American soccer,
- 27:31Speaker 7: all of the things. So you know, we we have
- 27:35Speaker 7: you want to know about sports soccer.
- 27:36Speaker 6: Specifically or or I mean, you know, I have New
- 27:40Speaker 6: York top of mind.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I'm like, well, that's because the Knicks are going to
- 27:44Speaker 2: win a championship.
- 27:46Speaker 7: Yes, So you know we have we have a FIFA
- 27:49Speaker 7: Women's World Cup medal that belongs to Ali Krieger. We
- 27:53Speaker 7: also have the Major League Soccer Trophy, you know, which
- 27:56Speaker 7: is not FIFA, but you know, staying in like.
- 27:58Speaker 6: The soccer world. So those are kind.
- 28:03Speaker 7: Of two objects from the soccer world, you know. I
- 28:06Speaker 7: think people that visit will really.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Love and you've got things from a variety of other
- 28:12Speaker 2: places too, including Olympic history, and I think one of
- 28:15Speaker 2: the cool things that I would want to see upon
- 28:18Speaker 2: my first visit to the exhibit would be the nineteen
- 28:21Speaker 2: thirty six gold medals from Jesse Owens, who was not
- 28:25Speaker 2: only in a very difficult Olympic cycle that was the
- 28:30Speaker 2: Berlin cycle where Hitler was in attendance, but as an
- 28:34Speaker 2: African American, he shattered what Hitler had spread far and
- 28:40Speaker 2: wide in terms of his belief in terms of white
- 28:42Speaker 2: supremacy and did the USA proud in the midst of it.
- 28:46Speaker 2: So this is like living history beyond just the field
- 28:51Speaker 2: of play.
- 28:53Speaker 7: I love that you're giving that context because this is
- 28:55Speaker 7: one of the most special pieces in the show. Yes,
- 29:02Speaker 7: and as like you said, Jesse Owens in nineteen thirty
- 29:05Speaker 7: six he went to Berlin and he won four gold medals,
- 29:11Speaker 7: and you know, those three of those four have sort
- 29:15Speaker 7: of been lost and kind of questionable of where they are.
- 29:19Speaker 7: With this one remaining one we tracked down and you know,
- 29:24Speaker 7: the lender kindly gave it to us for the duration
- 29:27Speaker 7: of the show and we show it alongside the Berlin
- 29:34Speaker 7: torch from from the Olympic torch from nineteen thirty six.
- 29:38Speaker 7: So we show we show those two things together, you know,
- 29:41Speaker 7: and really kind of celebrate what he did over there,
- 29:44Speaker 7: which was so special and we were we were also
- 29:48Speaker 7: you know, very honored. We had the Jesse Owens family
- 29:52Speaker 7: come and see the exhibit, which has been really really nice.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Yeah, that's wonderful. That's wonderful. So, Vicky, this exhibit the
- 30:00Speaker 6: Museum of Natural History. How long will it last?
- 30:04Speaker 7: So the museum is I'm sorry, the exhibit is opened
- 30:07Speaker 7: through January twenty twenty seven. So you are going to
- 30:11Speaker 7: go through lots of sporting special moments, the start of
- 30:16Speaker 7: football season, the end of basketball, you know, shortly in
- 30:20Speaker 7: a couple of weeks.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Mike, can you add to the exhibit if God willing
- 30:24Speaker 4: the Knicks take a win.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Here the question a championship ring would she take away
- 30:31Speaker 2: from the player because if you've got you know, they're
- 30:33Speaker 2: not going to want to take that thing off for
- 30:35Speaker 2: a year.
- 30:37Speaker 6: That is right, That is right.
- 30:39Speaker 7: So you know, fingers crossed, no pun intended that we
- 30:43Speaker 7: will have that opportunity, but we are, I can share
- 30:48Speaker 7: going to have a visit from the Larry O'Brian Trophy
- 30:52Speaker 7: after the championship is won, so that that is not
- 30:56Speaker 7: currently in the exhibit, but after the championship is one
- 31:01Speaker 7: that will be making an appearance, a special appearance at
- 31:03Speaker 7: the at the exhibit. But we do have lots of
- 31:09Speaker 7: championship rings also from the past. We have Kevin Durant's
- 31:12Speaker 7: championship ring, we have the Denver Nuggets, like all the
- 31:20Speaker 7: different kind of championship rings from the year, including the
- 31:23Speaker 7: nineteen fifties Philadelphia Warriors rings. It's kind of cool to
- 31:27Speaker 7: be able to see like what championship rings used to
- 31:31Speaker 7: look like back in the fifties, which were like very
- 31:34Speaker 7: fifties sixties, you know, very humble, to what they've become,
- 31:37Speaker 7: which are these like insane creations of you know, diamonds
- 31:42Speaker 7: and gold and symbolism.
- 31:45Speaker 2: And not to leave out Yankees or the Giants, but
- 31:48Speaker 2: you've got the Babe Ruth crown that Yogi Bearra received
- 31:51Speaker 2: for lifetime batting achievements.
- 31:53Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 31:53Speaker 2: And then Justin Tuck who was part of that two
- 31:55Speaker 2: thousand and eight Giants Super Bowl team, you've got his
- 32:00Speaker 2: as well. And other great stuff there, fabulous stuff. If
- 32:04Speaker 2: people want to know more online, where.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Do they go.
- 32:07Speaker 7: So they can visit the American Museum of Natural History website,
- 32:11Speaker 7: got all the information there.
- 32:14Speaker 2: AMNH dot org is the website. Am NH dot org.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Am n H that's the American Museum Natural History. Am
- 32:25Speaker 2: NH dot org is where you go for that. And Vicky,
- 32:29Speaker 2: great stuff. Maybe in the fall, when you've got some
- 32:31Speaker 2: of the new things football and other things in there,
- 32:33Speaker 2: we can have another conversation.
- 32:35Speaker 6: That's right, that'd be great.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Fabulous, thanks for being here. Going to take quick great
- 32:40Speaker 2: Christine's got your weekend tips.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Don't go anywhere.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Once again from New York, here's Radio Night Live and
- 32:54Speaker 1: Kevin McCullough welcome back.
- 32:56Speaker 2: It's final few minutes of Radio Night Live. So glad
- 32:59Speaker 2: to have you with us, Christine and Kevin and Christine.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Busy stuff. We've got, you know, FIFA, We've got two fifty,
- 33:05Speaker 2: We've got all kinds of things happening. It's going to
- 33:07Speaker 2: be a busy year. What is this weekend got in store?
- 33:11Speaker 6: Well, of course, we have the Mets this weekend.
- 33:14Speaker 4: And speaking of the Mets, I wanted to thank Tracy
