- 2:45cards unlucky in love, because that brings up the case of Lucky of Paroh,
- 2:50the exception who proved the rule. As his name implies, he was
- 2:53lucky in everything. For example, look at him now as he takes part
- 2:58in a fast poker game. He's the good looking, dark young man who
- 3:01happens to be dealing at the moment. All I blame how many so right,
- 3:08Olynvick uh you and Livings out there? Yeah, okay, last m

- 4:20way off lash And he's lucky. That's all on his deal, on everybody's
- 4:25deal. He's been winning all night. And you're going to take that back?
- 4:30Glasses not take an elephant back? Stay away from me. You're going
- 4:33to take that back? I said, stay away from me? The hey

- 4:54You take it back what you said? Yeah, all right, get up?
- 5:01What's the joke? Blame? They talk about? What that beer mug
- 5:05hadn't caught in your jacket? You're maybe he won't be so lucky next time?
- 5:11What do you mean by that? Last? You'll find out you don't
- 5:14have enough? All right? Now where you will go? Let him go
- 5:20at Taro? Sure, I let him go. Well, let's get back
- 5:28to the game. Who's I think I've had enough for the night at Taro?
- 5:33Nobody wants to play? Huh, what's the matter? It's still early.
- 5:38Well, well, it's just we know you're on the level, but
- 5:42with your luck. Every body says, what I studied the percentages. That's
- 5:47all right, the percentages. But I just can't see myself playing with a
- 5:51guy you know you can't be. Let's pay up and call the knight,
- 5:58all right, that's the way you It's a profitable night for me. I
- 6:02just thought you boys might want to chance to try to win back part of
- 6:05what you lost win terror. You know the percentage is better than that.
- 6:25Hello, Hardwick, Ah, oh Sarah, you don't seem happy to see
- 6:30me. There's no way to greet one of your best customers. There are
- 6:34other bookies in town. Why not get them a whirl? I do you
- 6:39like that? Nobody wants to take my mond take your money. That's good.
- 6:45You won't take any more best not yours? A tarr WHI is very
- 6:49fun. You know something, Hardwick? What the luckiest thing that could happen
- 6:55to me? Would me for to have a little bad luck for one?
- 7:09Oh Terror, come in thanks? Oh eln, How would you like to
- 7:19make some easy money doing what? It's like this? I'm getting a reputation
- 7:29in this town. Everybody is steering clear of luckier Terror. Even the big
- 7:33boys are showing the patther. They say, I always will you do?
- 7:40And I wanted to hear you say that, because then you'll like my proposition.
- 7:44Go on, here is five grands. I want you to place it
- 7:50with George hawick On. I'll tell you the horses to play. If we
- 7:56lose, it doesn't cost you anything. If we win, I give you
- 7:59a cap. Let's have a cash. It's a deal. That deal,
- 8:03but all those aces in my head? What would you call it? I
- 8:15feel love me late? I wonder what was keeping you? I stopped talking.
- 8:24We made the deal. That reminds me I have a deal for you.
- 8:28You have, Yeah, And I'm phoned you today from a publishing company.
- 8:33Publishing company? What do they want with me? Well, they're putting
- 8:37out a book on mathematical chances, how to win the games, you know,
- 8:41things like that. Oh yeah, Well they want to use your name
- 8:46in connection with it in some of your experiences, since you're getting to be
- 8:50famous, he said, it'd be good money in it. I'm all right,
- 8:56Why should I bother with something like this? Well, I just thought
- 9:01when I do the thinking for this time. Oh no, don't look like
- 9:09that, like what Maybe you know I do anything for you? You want
- 9:15me to call that publishing fellow? All I tell you what matters. Everybody
- 9:22says I'm lucky. Well, that's right. I'm the luckiest fellow in the
- 9:26world because I got you. Sometimes I'm afraid tell me something I want this
- 9:39strife. Are you happy? I got to know, Yes, I'm happy.
- 9:50Sometimes I think maybe you are ashamed of me. I think you say,
- 9:58like just I think you don't like a husband who is just yeah,
- 10:05I mustn't think that. Yeah, of course it would be nice if you
- 10:11it's that is. I don't know. Really, I was only talking,
- 10:18that's right, baby, only talking. And you know something? You said
- 10:24them mouth? Oh i'd wait. Oh, blame just the boy I wanted
- 10:39to see come into my office. Okay, okay, hello, Holland back,
- 10:50don't you plain? Yeah, hello the Holland back. You know something,
- 10:56Holland Back, Wayne's doing all right? For himself. He's taken me
- 11:01for thirty days in the past week. Thirty five, right, blame correction
- 11:05thirty five. I'm ruddy in luck yeah so yeah, but not yours bland.
- 11:11Yeah, I got a funny hunt. You're fronting for somebody? Would
- 11:16I do that? You know what? And I got a funny hunt?
- 11:20Who it is you have? Yeah? Terror, that's very funny. I
- 11:26thought you'd appreciate it before you laughed yourself to death. Let's get a few
- 11:33things straight. Yeah what so, first of all, get this straight.
- 11:35You're way off place hard week. I hardly know a terror. Alan Beck
- 11:39says different. He was in the game, but you're not Terror. The
- 11:43night loss and Blowy's top, he says, you're not terough are real?
- 11:48Chermany so I play cards with the terror. Lots of people didn't till they
- 11:52learned better. That doesn't mean anything. You are on his pay or arn't
- 11:56you? You're calling it? I was at your turn. I'm not talking.
- 12:03No, Hey, hang me off. That's a new shirt that it'll
- 12:07be ashamed to get blood all over it wouldn't look I don't know. Thinks
- 12:13you sure that? H okay, okay, lay off, I'll talk well
- 12:22yeah, yeah, Hardwick, you're right. It's a terrorist cash. Thanks.
- 12:28How that's all I wanted to know. Oh oh oh, hello mister
- 12:54Malone. This is why I'm not there. That's right. I've been reading
- 13:01about you. Well, that's why I want to see you. Or somebody
- 13:05is trying to destroy the little don't worry a girl. I can't even good
- 13:09let it down? When can I see you? Oh? Well second,
- 13:15let me look at my appointment. All right, well can't you put off
- 13:24that? Yeah, it's important that I see God time. I'm taking an
- 13:28occurrence to l Oh no, I'll be before all the people. I know.
- 13:35I'm done and think I can find somebody. Oh well the forum on
- 13:43heard of bed? What that? That doesn't there? I'm you know,
- 13:52I'm not joking, mister Malone. I want to see you. What are
- 13:56you doing now? And nothing? Ten minute? Thank you, mister Malone.
- 14:03Goodbye? Oh helloy, didn't hear you come in? Hey? What's
- 14:11the idea of you? Before returning to the amazing mister Malone. A few
- 14:28words from your announcer, and now back to the amazing mister Malone. Otero
- 14:41said it'd be over in ten minutes. I waited ten minutes. I waited
- 14:43twenty minutes, when I'd waited a full thirty minutes and still know what Taro?
- 14:48I looked him up on the phone book and called him back. Don't
- 15:05tell me that sounds like, Lieutenant Brooks. Don't that sounds like what are
- 15:11you doing at Tero's Brooks? No, Look, I'm serious. Who's been
- 15:18homicided? How do you like that I'm unemployed again? Prospected. I can't
- 15:26tell you. No, I just don't know. He didn't say, except
- 15:30something about somebody trying to destroy the legend. I can't. I got a
- 15:37date with a manicurist, cured this little dollar whoever kipt a hangmaut. But
- 15:52Lieutenant Brooks, you wanted to see me? Yeah, come on next road.
- 15:56Why I want you to talk to missus a Tarah, missus a Taro.
- 16:04This is John J. Malone. Hello, Hello, missus Taroh.
- 16:11Malone tells me your husband wanted to engage in Do you know what it was
- 16:14about? Yes? What? Well? Some people were going to write a
- 16:18book about his system of working out percentages? Yeah, mister Larson. Met
- 16:25Larson began spreading stories that my husband was a chief publishing. People heard about
- 16:30it and they didn't like it. My husband's threatened to get hold of mister
- 16:33Larson and give them another beating another. They'd already had one fight that I
- 16:38convinced my husband that fighting wouldn't do any good. I persuaded him to go
- 16:44to you, mister Malone. I thought they might be able to see the
- 16:48definition of character. I see, well, thanks missus Taro. Oh,
- 16:52we won't bother anymore. Now that's all right. I want to help in
- 16:56any way I can. If you can let me find who kills way,
- 17:00well, come on alone, goodbye, missus say out. I call it
- 17:12fick out new Larson for questioning. You know, Brooks says. One thing
- 17:17that puzzles me, what's happen alone? When a terror said destroy, what
- 17:21did he mean by it? Defamation or murder? Maggie, I thought I
- 17:33told you I'm out. Oh well, well I just came in. Tell
- 17:38him I'll see him right away. That's what I call efficiency. To show
- 17:44my appreciation. You get a raise effective tomorrow morning, but first you get
- 17:48choked to death effective tonight. Come in, Lawson, Oh, I gotta
- 17:59talk to you, Paul. Everybody knows I didn't like Otiro. I figured
- 18:04him for a crook, and I said so with him murdered, I'm a
- 18:08natural. When the law starts looking for sis Jack here by the radio,
- 18:12the law is looking for him Jack. I didn't kill out hero. That's
- 18:17one I don't check. Not yet. Well check on it, and maybe
- 18:19I will. There are plenty of lot of people who could have done the
- 18:22job. For example, a tyro's wife. His wife, she seemed genuinely
- 18:26upset by his death. Would you expect her to do laughing out? It
- 18:29looked like the real thing? No, tony hysteric. He used to be
- 18:32on the stage before he married it. She's had practice. Why would she
- 18:36kill him? I had an idea. She always figured he was just a
- 18:38little bit too good for him. She married him. He had no Now
- 18:41she's got it without him. I don't make a note of that. Where
- 18:47else do we look? You might try Dick Blaine, Dick Blaine, How
- 18:48did he fit with O Taro? I don't know for sure. Make me
- 18:52he's been hanging around with a hero a lot. You ought to be able
- 18:56to sing something. I don't try him too. You'll probably find him as
- 19:00Monkey's tavern. He usually hangs out around there. We'll see what you can
- 19:03find out, William Malone, it'll help you defend me. Who says I'm
- 19:07getting to defend it? What do you think I gave you old reads for
- 19:10I've been wondering. Look, Malone, do you want the case or don't
- 19:12you? At Tero was going to engage me against you, but he never
- 19:18got around of it. Oh, I suppose I'm free to take you on.
- 19:22I'll think it over well, check on blame and riata opiro. It
- 19:25may help you make up your mind. I'll do that, and then if
- 19:26I'm picked up, there'll be that much ahead. If you're picked up,
- 19:30you're gonna give yourself up. No thanks, I thought you want to meet
- 19:34a defender, not on most I don't be a joy. I'm not taking
- 19:37any chances. I want to see what you find out first. Yeah,
- 19:42get Lieutenant Brooks on the phone, Maggie Olay, have a nice chat with
- 19:47Lieutenant Malone. But don't expect me to wait. Come back here, Lass
- 19:49and think I'm crazy putting on a good imitation. Now listen to me.
- 19:52I'm telling you to stay here, and this gun is telling you I'll give
- 19:56the orders, and it relieve you of any responsibility of letting Lego so maybe
- 20:00you'll still do what I asked? Aldopped. All right, mister, well
- 20:12what will it be? Nothing things? I'm not drinking today. I'm just
- 20:17looking for somebody. How do you like that? Not drinking? And he
- 20:19takes up space at the bar or what? It's not prod it right?
- 20:23Jar buddy just deserted as a poor relatives funeral? And Friday afternoon too,
- 20:30they start to be jumping. You know, I got a theory now,
- 20:33Martin, I told you my name nobody I didn't think so it's not Murton.
- 20:37Oh well I do. Joe just playing Joe not bad now? Like
- 20:42I was saying, I got a theory, Harry, I haven't time the
- 20:45theory today, Joe? How do you like that? I got a listen
- 20:48to other people's troubles? The idea is that full philosophy? But has anybody
- 20:52got time to listen to me? No? There are only three people in
- 20:56here. Is one of them Dick blamed by any chance. I don't want
- 21:00drinks, you don't want conversation, But I've got to answer question. Will
- 21:03two fish make it any easier on you? By me? That's Blain just
- 21:10going out the door. Thanks, Joe. I'll be seeing you, hey,
- 21:19Blaine. Wait, oh, brother, hm, just fine, but
- 21:32what happened? It's fun of the tummy guy looking out of that car.
- 21:36So I went by and I was looking your way, so I tackled you.
- 21:38If I hadn't your name and be signed on that that dotted line of
- 21:42bullet holes in the building behind all well, well thanks, Oh that's all
- 21:47right, that's okay. I want to talk to you. So let's go
- 21:52somewhere where we can go man, before your friends decide to do a repeat.
- 22:00Blaine wanted to go back to the bar he needed a drink, but
- 22:03I figured we'd better get out of that neighborhood fast. I took him to
- 22:06my car and we started off. Have you any idea who it was that
- 22:14sprayed? Led it to? Just now? The unfo George Hardwick, why
- 22:18he was a bookie, didn't want to handle of Tarot's bets. Tero had
- 22:22made me a front for him, Hardwick found out, and so enough to
- 22:26want to killy, that's the reat of Taro. I knew about it,
- 22:30so he could have wanted to shut me up. All right, it's worth
- 22:33looking at it. By the way, he did did Terror know Hardwick had
- 22:37found out? I don't know. I haven't seen him since Tuesday noon,
- 22:41and that was before hardwdon cut on. Well, it looks like I visited
- 22:45Hardwick in order. I'll call it ten of Brooks to meet us there.
- 22:51As long as Hardwick likes to play with guns, it might be a good
- 22:52idea to have the law handy. That's right, Lieutenant. I did threaten
- 23:02Altero. I was going to give him his lumps, but I didn't intend
- 23:06to kill him. Don't tell me it was an accident. Hardwick wasn't anything
- 23:08as far as I was concerned, I didn't have anything to do with it.
- 23:12All right, you're witness Malone Hardwick. When did you first get the
- 23:18idea Blaine was funding for Ato day before yesterday? When I paid off Blaine,
- 23:23when I added up his winnings, it looked way out of line for
- 23:26his usual time to play, I see. So when Blaine came back that
- 23:30night, I convinced him to admit that he was working for Ae. Blaine
- 23:36yea alone. Why did you go back to Hardwick after you'd been paid off?
- 23:38When I give a taro was Billy give me a a list to play?
- 23:41So I went from place to bed for the next day well, then,
- 23:45Hardwick, you should look. I've answered all the questions I'm going to.
- 23:49You've got me for making book. Isn't that enough? I don't know
- 23:52anything about the murder, so layoff. Just one thing more, Hardwick?
- 23:57Where are you being this afternoon? All afternoon, all afternoon? Who's been
- 24:03here to see it? Nobody? Where are the keys to your car?
- 24:07I thought you said just one thing. It's all part of the same thing.
- 24:11Now, where are the keys to your car? In my pocket?
- 24:15That's the black Cadillac in front of the building. Isn't that well? What
- 24:18if it is nothing except the radiators warm? The car has been out?
- 24:22Who could have been driving it? If you have the keys and nobody's been
- 24:25to see it, well you better come along with me, Hardwick, and
- 24:27don't reach for that. Got a whole squad outside. I'm gonna swarm all
- 24:33over here at the first son of a shot, so be careful. You
- 24:34wouldn't want them getting mode in your carpet, now, would you come on?
- 24:38I want to call a lawyer, first lieutenant. As a lawyer,
- 24:41I've got a client Brooks last them. Yeah, I better get in touch
- 24:45with him and tell him we're on the home spread. You bet we are.
- 24:48We've got Hardy from making book attempted murder suspicion of murder. Oh,
- 24:52let's not overdo things Brooks alone. I hate to see a fellow make a
- 24:56pig of himself. Cut out the double talk, Malon. Two of those
- 25:00charges ought to be enough to hold Hardwick for a long time. Why not
- 25:03drop the third, suspecially the murder. Yeah, since you can put the
- 25:07cuffs on the real murderer. Oh I can't. Or flanks for telling me?
- 25:11All right, where do I put up? Well, Blaine's waiting patiently.
- 25:15Why not try him me? Yeah, that's right, Blaine. You're
- 25:18the one who killed the terror. Well, brus, what are you waiting
- 25:19for it? All right? Malone? I sacked tightly. I stupped your
- 25:32face. Now how about you making with explanations? It goes like this,
- 25:36Today is Friday. You're amazing, mister Malone. You know what day it
- 25:40is. That's on account of a bartender told me he was beating about the
- 25:44rotten Friday PM business. I have a third sow did he? But I
- 25:47didn't wait for it? So today is Friday, yeah, which means the
- 25:51day before yesterday was Wednesday, Friday Thursday, Wednesday, nobody, you know,
- 25:56we can count. I didn't play bookie that day. You know something
- 26:00along We're getting absolutely nowhere fast. We got into Wednesday, and that's the
- 26:03day Hardwick said he paid off Blaine. Yeah, and Blaine said he gave
- 26:07the money to a tarot. Mmm, not earlier. Blaine had told me
- 26:11he hadn't seen on taro since Tuesday, so I knew he was lying.
- 26:15He never turned the money over to a tarot. He kept it for himself
- 26:19and then killed a tarot so he wouldn't have to pay Larson shooting over his
- 26:22mouth about a tarot, and Hardwick wiped it him too. I guess Blaine
- 26:26figured nobody'd be looking his wife. That's it broke and Hardwick tried to wipe
- 26:30out Blaine because he was afraid Blaine would mention Hardwick's threats to a tarot.
- 26:36But since Hardwick didn't kill a tarot, what was he worried about. He
- 26:40wanted to avoid investigation. He knew once the heat was on him, it
- 26:42would uncover his bookmaking activities, which is just what happened. Finished a copy
- 26:48of Let Go. I'm finished right, mets you for the chick, No
- 26:52thanks, I'm not a gambling man. What what I did to a tarot?
- 26:55He did all right? I just got himself killed, that's all.
- 26:57Even his luck couldn't stop left. Oh, why don't know? Seems to
- 27:02me he was lucky even then. How do you figure that? Have you
- 27:06seen today's paper? Another high cost of living item? Beginning tomorrow the price
- 27:10of funerals goes up. Artero got in just under the wire? How's that
- 27:15plot? Good Night? And now once again back to the Amazing Mister Mallet.
- 27:34Well, no doubt about it. A terror show was a lucky stiff.
- 27:38Next week I'll tell you about a stiff who wasn't so lucky. So
- 27:41why not pick me up at my office at the same time, I'll be
- 27:44waiting for you. Good Night. The Amazing Mister Malone is a Grace Gipson
- 27:51production starring John Soul as John J. Malone and directed by Lawrence H.
- 27:56Sesster. Welcome Back and once again crime is thwarted by the process of elimination.
- 28:11Now to listener comments and feedback. And Joan commented regarding our episode eleven
- 28:18fourteen of the Old Gold Comedy Theater, having Wonderful Crime. She says,
- 28:25my mother used to like Harold Lloyd when he appeared in Silent Movies. I
- 28:29thoroughly enjoyed today's shows. I found it very good and funny. The show
- 28:33is great fun. Keep up your wonderful work with this podcast, and I
- 28:38hope to be hearing more of this sort of show again. Well, thanks
- 28:41so much, Joan, and I appreciate you listening, and it's something if
- 28:48you listen long enough to the show you'll hear more of. I have to
- 28:52say that detective comedies were rare in terms of being on the air and any
- 29:02good, which was why many of them didn't make it very long. We've
- 29:06already played le Audous with or All, which I thought was decent, and
- 29:11also The Thin Man. Other ones that we'll be looking at that are very
- 29:18strongly comedic, mister and Missus North that that was only in the earlier episodes.
- 29:25They changed to kind of a melodramatic thing later on. And we're also
- 29:32we've got a couple of a couple three specials, at least one with a
- 29:38Red Skelton adapting in one of his whistling detective movies to the radio, of
- 29:44course comedic. And then we have an episode of the wr Summer playhouse that
- 29:51I hope to play one of these years around the start of baseball season.
- 29:56And of course we have radio adaptation of Bob Hope's My Favorite Brunette, and
- 30:04if I stumble on anything else, I'd be happy to consider adding it to
- 30:10the list of stuff I'd like to play. If you're aware of any good
- 30:15comedy detective storyline shows, I'd love to hear from you, And ideally it's
- 30:25got to have some bit of mystery, you know, can't be all paper
- 30:30thin. Otherwise we could play the Sam Shovel sketches from Abbott and Costello and
- 30:37the one long pan sketches of Fred Allen, which could actually be pretty fun
- 30:44but wouldn't quite fit on our show. But thanks so much to give them
- 30:48for the email. That'll do it for today. Join us back here on
- 30:51Wednesday, as yours truly Johnny Dollar continues, and join us next week for
- 30:56another episode of the Australian version of the See Mister Malone. In the meantime,
