- 0:00Job chapter 19. Job chapter 19.
- 0:06And as you are turning, I want to read to you.
- 0:12Something that was Anonymous, but is apropos for our time
- 0:18together in the book of jokes night.
- 0:22It's called the Builder. I saw them tearing it, building
- 0:28down a group of men in a busy town with a hefty.
- 0:33Blow in a Lusty. Yell, they swung with zest and a
- 0:37side wall fell asked the foreman are.
- 0:41These skilled are these men skilled.
- 0:44The kind, you would hire if you had to build, he looked at me
- 0:48and laughed. No indeed.
- 0:50Unskilled. Labor is all I need.
- 0:53Why they can wreck in a day or two when it has taken Builders
- 0:58years to do? I asked myself, as I went my
- 1:02way, which of these roles have, I tried to play, it might
- 1:07Builder with Rule and square measuring and constructing with
- 1:12skill and care. Or am I a wrecker who walks the
- 1:15town content with the business of tearing down?
- 1:21Jobs friends were content with the business of tearing down.
- 1:26They were a wrecking crew. They were not a building crew.
- 1:30And they were actually very good at what they did.
- 1:33I'm not so sure. They they said around thinking
- 1:36about how to wreck job's life, I'm not sure that was their
- 1:38intention. But in doing so in their
- 1:42conversation they were assaulting him and abusing him.
- 1:49And so when you think about the Book of Job, you're always drawn
- 1:52to things that our Lord has said in the New Testament when James
- 1:57says he's worked in James 126. If anyone thinks himself to be
- 2:00religious and yet does not Bridle his tongue.
- 2:05But to seize his own heart. This man's religion.
- 2:09Is worthless. James is a great book, James
- 2:14about. You say, you have faith.
- 2:17Show me. Demonstrated.
- 2:21And so he says, very clearly one of the evidences of True
- 2:26Religion. Genuine faith.
- 2:30Is the ability to Bridal one's tongue. because if you can't
- 2:34control your tongue and you say, you love the Lord, then your
- 2:41religion is is worthless. He goes on in the third chapter,
- 2:46in expounds on this. He says 4 verse 2 of chapter 3.
- 2:51For we, all stumble in many ways.
- 2:53If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect
- 2:56man or a mature, man able to Bridle the whole body as well.
- 3:01Now, if we put the bits into horse's mouth, so that they will
- 3:04obey us, we direct their entire bodies.
- 3:06Well, look at the ships also though, they are so great, and
- 3:11are driven by strong. Winds are still directed by a
- 3:14very small Rudder, whoever the inclination of the pilot
- 3:18desires. So also the tongue is a small
- 3:21part of the body and yet it boasts of great things.
- 3:27See how great a forced is set aflame by such.
- 3:31Such a small fire. And the tongue is a fire, the
- 3:36very world of iniquity. The tongue is said, among our
- 3:39members as that, which two files the entire body and sets on fire
- 3:43the course of our life and it's set on fire by hell for every
- 3:47species of beasts and birds of reptiles and creatures of the
- 3:50sea is teamed and has been Tamed.
- 3:55But human race that no one contained the tongue.
- 4:01It is a Restless evil and full of deadly poison with it.
- 4:04We bless our Lord and our father and with it, we curse men who
- 4:08have been made in the likeness of God from the same mouth.
- 4:11Come both blessing and cursing my brethren.
- 4:13These things ought not to be this way.
- 4:16There's a fountain send out for the same opening both fresh and
- 4:20bitter. Water going to fit tree my
- 4:22brethren produce olives or a Vine Bruce fakes, nor can salt
- 4:27water. Produce fresh.
- 4:31The tongue is that which defiles?
- 4:35the tongue is that which destroys the tongue is that
- 4:40which derails people's lives? Jobs friends were in the process
- 4:47of trying to derail job. Trying to get him to to think
- 4:53differently about himself, then what really was in his heart.
- 4:57It was true about him. It's interesting that the Bible
- 5:01says that no man can tame the tongue but you can take that
- 5:04beast of the sea. Think about that.
- 5:08My kids were younger, we used to take a yearly journey to
- 5:11SeaWorld that was way back. When when people could actually
- 5:15ride Shamu in the water, they can't do that anymore.
- 5:18But back in those days, you could And think about it, you
- 5:22could team Shamu so much so that you could ride on his back.
- 5:27You can go down into the water, have them throw you up out of
- 5:30the water and then pick you up. Again, this is amazing scene to
- 5:33be able to watch Shamu there at SeaWorld and realize that they
- 5:38were able to train this huge whale to do things.
- 5:43That are virtually incredible. But the tongue just a really
- 5:48small sliver of a thing. That cannot be tamed.
- 5:54It's like a fire that sets, a blaze of forest.
- 5:58It could be so destructive. So the tongue is that which
- 6:04defiles and the tongue is that which defies ever being Tamed
- 6:12But the tongue also displays the reality.
- 6:18Of our intermediate. Who we really are.
- 6:23And so, as you think about what James says, about the tongue, in
- 6:29the things that Solomon has even said in the Book of Proverbs
- 6:34chapter 12, verse number 18, there is one who speaks for
- 6:36rashly like the thrust of a sword.
- 6:39But the tongue of the wise brings healing.
- 6:44That tells you that the men surrounding job were not wise
- 6:47men because they weren't bringing healing to the life of
- 6:51Job. Someone would say in chapter 15
- 6:54verse number, for a soothing tongue is a tree of life, but
- 6:59perversion in it crushes. The spirit.
- 7:04Instead of being like a tree of life, with words that bring
- 7:07healing to job. Those words were crushing, job,
- 7:12vexing him smashing his life on top of all the other problems
- 7:18that he faced. David, very similarly said in,
- 7:23in psalm 57 verse number for these words, my soul is among
- 7:30Lions. I must lie among those who
- 7:33breathe forth, fire even the sons of men whose teeth are
- 7:39Spears and arrows and their tongue, a sharp sword.
- 7:45David would know about how people's words would would crush
- 7:50him. In Psalm 64 verse.
- 7:52Number one hear my voice. Oh God, in my complaint,
- 7:56preserve my life from The Dread of the enemy hiding me from the
- 7:59secret Council of evildoers, from the tumult of those who do
- 8:03iniquity, have sharpened their tongue like a sword.
- 8:06They ain't bitter speech as their Arrow to shoot from
- 8:10concealment at the blameless. Suddenly they shoot at him and
- 8:14they do not fear David's life. He faced much criticism Much
- 8:19verbal abuse. Job faced even greater abuse
- 8:26because he faced it every single day from the people that were
- 8:29his friends, David had lots of enemies. and jobs friends were
- 8:36not as enemies per se, but they acted as if they were his
- 8:40enemies. And so, as bildad last week,
- 8:44assaulted job and abused job job, now is going to respond in
- 8:49the way. He responds is quite remarkable
- 8:53and the way he responds is the way that we can learn how to
- 8:57respond because what you're going to learn about jobs
- 8:59response is what helps him, keep the proper perspective and the
- 9:04perspective that job has on his God.
- 9:09Is that which blows the mind of the believer today?
- 9:15And you're going to see that. We're going to begin.
- 9:19By looking at how job is, is crushed by their speeches.
- 9:24How he is consumed Point number two with his suffering, but how
- 9:29job is confident in his savior? Three very simple points, but
- 9:35three points that will bring home to us the reality of what
- 9:39we need to know. When it comes to handling a
- 9:42perspective that keeps us energized in the service of the
- 9:47king, So we'll begin job, 19 verse number 1, then job
- 9:52responded. How long will you torment me and
- 9:55crush me with words they were questioned.
- 10:00They were using their words to, to corrupt his life and to ride
- 10:04his life. These ten times you have
- 10:07insulted me, you are not ashamed to wrong.
- 10:10Neither, there's no shame in your words.
- 10:13You don't even blush when you speak.
- 10:15These ten times is not a literal 10 times.
- 10:18How do we know that we know that?
- 10:20Because 10 is a number of phonus?
- 10:23We know that when we read Genesis 31 verse number 7, where
- 10:26Jacob spoke of Laban changes in wages ten times over numbers
- 10:3114:22, God said of Israel that they tend to him ten times in
- 10:36the wilderness in Daniel 11 verse number 20, Daniel and his
- 10:40friends found to be 10 times better than the wise man in
- 10:44Babylon. It wasn't that they were
- 10:47actually 10 times better or that.
- 10:49There are actually 10 times at Laban increases wages.
- 10:53It's a number of fullness you have 10 fingers, right?
- 10:5610 fingers on your hands, your hands are full.
- 10:58You have 10 toes on your feet. So 10 is the number of fullness.
- 11:04And so when you speak of that, you understand that Israel fully
- 11:08tempted, God in the wilderness during their time when they left
- 11:12Egypt and they wandered, they continue.
- 11:16To tempt. God, it was a continual fullness
- 11:20of their tempting and coming against God.
- 11:23Job says, you have insulted me these ten times.
- 11:26In other words, he has been filled with their Temptations.
- 11:29He's been filled with their insults.
- 11:32It's a never-ending continually continual insult against his
- 11:38life, This is the first number for, even if I have truly aired,
- 11:42my error, lodges with me. The other words, if I have
- 11:47intent, unintentionally sinned, and maybe I have and none of us
- 11:51knows, actually all of our sins. But he says, if I have erred, if
- 11:54I have sinned unintentionally, God knows this.
- 11:57And God will judge me for it because God knows everything.
- 12:02He says, in verse number 5, indeed you vote yourselves
- 12:04against me, improve my disgrace to me.
- 12:07In other words, you're set on one purpose, that's the ACT
- 12:10arrogantly against me says down in verse number 21.
- 12:13Pity Me, Pity Me. Oh, you my friends, you show, no
- 12:18compassion verse 22. Why do you persecute me as as
- 12:22God does? And then he says in verse number
- 12:2428, if you say how shall we persecute him and what pretext
- 12:29for a case against him, can we find Verse 29, then be afraid of
- 12:33the sword for yourselves for wrath.
- 12:36Brings the punishment of the sword so that you may know.
- 12:40There is Judgment job knows that by your words.
- 12:46You shall be judged by your words.
- 12:47You shall be condemned. Those were the words of Christ.
- 12:50He knows that that their words are going to bring forth
- 12:52judgment upon them. So be careful how you say what
- 12:55you're saying. Be careful what you say and when
- 12:57you say it, So he expresses how they have vexed him, how they
- 13:02have crushed him with their speeches, but then he begins to
- 13:07say these words as he is consumed with his suffering, he
- 13:12makes two main points, one, he's afflicted by God, excuse me, a
- 13:17number two, he's abandoned by his friends.
- 13:21Look at verse number 6, know, then that God has wronged me and
- 13:29it's closed his net. Around me, he's trapped me now.
- 13:35It's not a job. He's been running from God and
- 13:38got trapped him and threw a net around him and ensnared him.
- 13:41That's not the point because he's not running from guys like
- 13:43Jonah, who who ran from God, because he didn't want to go to
- 13:47the ninevites and he ran the opposite direction and God has
- 13:50stared him in the belly of a fish.
- 13:51That's not the case. Joe's not running from God at
- 13:54all. And yet, he understands that God
- 13:58in his sovereignty is somehow behind all this.
- 14:02He just doesn't understand it. He can't grasp it, he's looking
- 14:08for answers. Look down at verse number. 21
- 14:11for the hand of God has struck me.
- 14:15Think about that statement. The hand of God has struck me
- 14:20now. Is it true?
- 14:21Yes. Is it false?
- 14:23Yes. Okay, both are true.
- 14:27How do we know go back to chapter 1, go back to chapter 1.
- 14:32in chapter 1, Satan says These words put forth your hand now
- 14:40and touch all that he has verse 11, he will surely curse you to
- 14:44your face. Then the Lord said to Satan
- 14:46behold all that he has is in your hand.
- 14:50Only do not put forth your hand on him.
- 14:53So Satan says if you touch him with your hand and God says no,
- 14:57you put forth your hand and your butt, your hand cannot kill him.
- 15:04And then over in chapter 2, Chapter 2.
- 15:11Job says our God says again. Our or Satan says answers.
- 15:16The Lord and said, verse number 4 skin for skin.
- 15:19Yes. All that a man has he will give
- 15:21for his life. However put forth your hand now
- 15:23and touch his bone and his flesh, he will curse you to your
- 15:27face. So the Lord said to Satan
- 15:29behold, he is in your hand only spare his life.
- 15:35So is it God's hand is touching him?
- 15:38Or is it Satan's hand that's touching him?
- 15:41See what job is doing? Is recognizing that God is
- 15:43behind everything. All things Romans 11 must pass
- 15:47through him back to him again because he oversees everything
- 15:52he's control of everything. Yeah, he didn't have chapter one
- 15:56to look at to understand what's happening.
- 15:58That Satan is actually involved in the flicking his life and
- 16:01taking these things from him but God is allowing Satan to do
- 16:05that. So God said to Satan, you put
- 16:07forth your hand, you want to touch my servant touch him, but
- 16:11you can't do this, you can't, you can touch it whatever he
- 16:14has, but you can't touch him, then you can touch him, but you
- 16:16can't kill him. So God gave restraints to Satan.
- 16:21So in job says, it's God who has struck me.
- 16:25He is speaking of God, in a sovereign control, over
- 16:29everything. Somehow God is behind this.
- 16:31He just can't articulate it. You just can't explain it and he
- 16:34certainly doesn't understand why or how a lot like you and me.
- 16:38We go through times and we just don't get it.
- 16:40We don't understand why the conflict.
- 16:42Why the conflict last so long? Why the hardship is?
- 16:44As severe as it is. When will it ever let up?
- 16:47We do. Oh no.
- 16:49And Joe goes on a since this. Look at this, he says, behold I
- 16:52cry violence but I get no answer.
- 16:55I shout for help but there is no justice in other words who's
- 16:59going to vindicate me, I cried to the Lord.
- 17:03But this is where God wants them.
- 17:05You see, we forget this. That God wants us to come to
- 17:09him, and God wants us to cry out to him and Luke 11.
- 17:12And Luke 18, talk about persistence and prayer and
- 17:15patience and prayer and how how important it is for us to
- 17:20persistently. But beseech, the throne of
- 17:23grace. That's why God says, keep on
- 17:25asking, keep on seeking, keep on knocking, don't stop.
- 17:30Because God wants us to continually come to him and so
- 17:35God allows things to go as long as they do.
- 17:39Why? Well, Luke 18 tells us.
- 17:43Will he find this kind of faith upon the Earth?
- 17:46What kind the kind of Faith that's persistent and patient?
- 17:50That does not quit beseeching God and asking God to step in
- 17:54and do what he's going to do. So Joe says, in verse number 8,
- 17:57he has walled up my way so that I cannot pass.
- 18:01He has put Darkness on my path. He has, he has no way of knowing
- 18:05where he's going or what's going to happen next.
- 18:08Because everything in front of, in front of him is dark, there
- 18:11was a time. When everything in front of him
- 18:12was bright is his kids were happy.
- 18:15Yeah, he was healthy. Things are going along really
- 18:18well. He could see the future, with
- 18:19his kids, his grandkids great-grandkids, how things were
- 18:22going to grow. He could see the future, but not
- 18:23now, it's completely dark. It's completely Bleak because
- 18:27everything's been rolled in around him, he cannot see, but
- 18:31God has him right? Where he wants him.
- 18:34They may learn to trust The true and living God.
- 18:39It says verse 9. He is stripped my honor from me
- 18:42and remove the crown from my head.
- 18:44He breaks me down on every side and I am I'm gone he is uprooted
- 18:48My Hope like a tree. He is also kindled his anger
- 18:51against me and considered me as his enemy.
- 18:53His troops come together and build up their way against me
- 18:57and Camp around my tent is question, simply is I don't
- 19:01understand. I don't get it.
- 19:05I am hemmed in. I am caught.
- 19:08I am trapped. I am walled in.
- 19:11Everything around me is completely dark.
- 19:13I cannot see where to go. I don't know what to do.
- 19:18We can understand that. We get to those places.
- 19:23With a lot less suffering, the jobs going through.
- 19:28And he's just crying out to God because he feels like he's been
- 19:31attacked by God. And then abandoned by his
- 19:34friends, he's consumed with the stuff.
- 19:35We look at this verse 13. He has removed my brother's far
- 19:39from me and my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.
- 19:42Hey, listen, next time. You think you're lonely.
- 19:44Read this passage of scripture. All right, it'll open your eyes.
- 19:47Look what. He says, my relatives have
- 19:49failed in my intimate friends have forgotten me.
- 19:53Those who live in my house and my mates.
- 19:55Consider me a stranger. I'm a foreigner in there.
- 19:58I called to my servant and he does not answer.
- 20:01I have to implore him with my mouth.
- 20:03My breath is offencive to my wife.
- 20:07That could be applied to most of you men and I am loathsome to my
- 20:13own brother's. Even young children despise me
- 20:15and rise up and they speak against me all my associates, a
- 20:18poor me and those I love have turned against me on top of all
- 20:24that verse 20, my bone clings to my skin and my flesh and I have
- 20:28escaped only by the skin of my teeth.
- 20:30Not only have my friends, abandoned me, not only have my
- 20:34family, abandoned me not only have my servants abandon me.
- 20:37Me and those who are intimate friends with me but also
- 20:42children who are my acquaintances, abandoned me in
- 20:46even my own health has abandoned me.
- 20:51Talk about lonely. Talk about isolation, talk about
- 20:55having, no one that's job. The next time you think you have
- 21:01nobody cares and no one's interested in what's going on
- 21:04your life and your family. Abandons you and your friends
- 21:07have been in. You had no more friends, just
- 21:09read job. Because Joe had nobody and the
- 21:14three guys that ride around them, but they were as far from
- 21:17him as the East is from the West.
- 21:21And so after he expresses how consumed he is the suffering,
- 21:28now you're going to see his confidence in his savior.
- 21:33And what he says is absolutely astonishing.
- 21:40Verse 23. Oh, that my words were written.
- 21:44Oh, that they were inscribed in a book.
- 21:50That was an iron stylus and Lead, they were engraved in the
- 21:55rock. Forever.
- 21:58I just wish that someone would write this down little, do you
- 22:02know, it would be written to write.
- 22:04If someone could just record my suffering, if someone could just
- 22:08record my statements, oh, that it would always be there for
- 22:12someone to read to understand. In no idea.
- 22:19That they were going to be written down.
- 22:22None. But they were.
- 22:26In the living and abiding word of God. those who were there at
- 22:33the time, those who Who saw him they've all died and gone off
- 22:39the scene. The exact location of this.
- 22:43We have no idea. but the words that were spoken, To him and the
- 22:50words that he spoke to others. They have been recorded.
- 22:56And God did that out of his grace and mercy and kindness.
- 23:04So one day you would pick up the book begin to read the book and
- 23:08to realize that what you're going through is not nearly as
- 23:11intense as what job is going through.
- 23:15But more than that, he wants you to have a confident perspective
- 23:19in God. Because Joe did. so, listen to
- 23:26what job says, Verse 25, as for me, I know that my redeemer
- 23:32lives at the last. He will take his stand on the
- 23:35earth. Even after my skin is destroyed
- 23:38yet from my flesh. I shall see God whom I myself
- 23:42Shall Behold. And who my eyes will see, and
- 23:46not another my heart faints Within Me.
- 23:51What a statement? Job has already made one great
- 23:56confession. This is his second great
- 24:00confession. His first one is when chapter 9
- 24:05verse number 10, where he says, who does great things and
- 24:09fathomable and wondrous Works without number.
- 24:13And we told you at that time in chapter 9 verse number 10 that
- 24:17though that that verse unlocks for job the mystery of God and
- 24:23unfolds for job, the meaning of God This one in job, 19, unveils
- 24:33to us the ministry of God and unleashes us unleashes for us,
- 24:40the message. From God, this is a Monumental
- 24:47statement that expresses everything we need to know about
- 24:52God, to get us through whatever trial were on or in.
- 24:59So I'm going to give you seven words, this was going to be my
- 25:03Resurrection Sunday sermon. But I decided to give it to you
- 25:07early and save it for another year because I've already
- 25:11written this year's Resurrection Sunday sermon.
- 25:14Okay, but this one day will come back again but with greater
- 25:18detail, but what job says is Monumental because number one
- 25:24that expresses it expresses Jobs intensity. expresses his
- 25:35intensity free says, for I know, let's say, I guess, I think if
- 25:50my memory serves me correct, you know, I know.
- 25:58That my redeemer lives. There is no question about that.
- 26:03This is a statement of confidence.
- 26:06It's a statement of intensity. Why?
- 26:08Because there's passion behind it then say, well, you know, I
- 26:11think I know My Savior Lives. No, I know my redeemer lives,
- 26:16there's intensity behind the statement.
- 26:19There's passion behind the statement, their strength,
- 26:23behind the statement. There's no question behind it.
- 26:28There's no wondering behind it. There's no thinking behind it.
- 26:32It's I know that my redeemer lives.
- 26:36The question is, do you because it's so important.
- 26:43Which begs the question? How does he know?
- 26:48How can he possibly know that his Redeemer Lives?
- 26:53How would job ever understand this?
- 26:57Is that God somehow is going to unveil to him?
- 26:59Something that he has not unveiled to his three friends.
- 27:03Maybe. What is it about job?
- 27:07That he knows something that his friends do not know.
- 27:12That will allow him to speak with great intensity.
- 27:15Great Passion. Great certainty great
- 27:18confidence. I know that my redeemer lives,
- 27:23what a statement. Faith is always rooted.
- 27:32In what God has already said. so if it's a statement of
- 27:38conviction, which is a statement of assurance, which it is, I
- 27:45know that my redeemer lives, he has to know something about his
- 27:49Redeemer. He's have, he would have had to
- 27:53have heard something from someone about his Redeemer, he
- 27:57couldn't go down to the library, pick up some books, and read
- 28:00some theology treaty on the God and His Redemptive purposes.
- 28:06There was no book of the Bible to read Because jobs the first
- 28:09book written in the Bible. So there's nothing for him to
- 28:12read about the Bible. But he knows.
- 28:18He knows more than we know about Our Redeemer.
- 28:23And he doesn't have the 66 books that you have in your hand.
- 28:28How did he know? Stay with me.
- 28:34This is so incredibly good. I told you early on that job was
- 28:40a contemporary of Abraham. He lived After the flood, okay?
- 28:48Little patriarchal times that's why he was performing Priestly
- 28:52duties with his children, in chapter 1, offering of
- 28:56sacrifices for them right on their behalf.
- 29:01So is before the levitical priesthood, so is during the
- 29:05patriarchal time so he lived during the time of Abraham,
- 29:08Isaac, and Jacob. And so what happened with
- 29:14Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had to have been passed down to them as
- 29:17well. So we know that what was passed
- 29:22down from the very beginning was a promise.
- 29:26In Genesis chapter 3 verse number feet, 15 of a seed of a
- 29:30woman that would crush the Serpent's head.
- 29:33This would be all passed down verbally for Generation to
- 29:38generation. And as it was being passed down,
- 29:42we know that able because we studied Hebrews chapter 11 and
- 29:46if you're with his way back in the year 2000, you were with us.
- 29:48When we studied the Book of Genesis And you know, that Abel
- 29:52offered an acceptable sacrifice in the God.
- 29:55How did Abel know how to do that?
- 29:56Because his parents taught him how to offer an acceptable
- 29:59sacrifice. And Cain sacrifice was not
- 30:03accepted by God. Because Abel's was a blood
- 30:06sacrifice. In Cannes was not a blood
- 30:11sacrifice, see new about that. They knew about atonement for
- 30:16sin and forgiveness of sins. But Abraham if he was
- 30:22contemporary of Abraham, he would know.
- 30:24He would know something about Mount Moriah he would know
- 30:27something about substitutionary atonement.
- 30:30He would know something about a sacrifice that he went up on
- 30:33Mount Moriah to offer in this would be being passed down from
- 30:37generation to generation because Abraham, the father of the
- 30:40Jewish, faith would be one, who would teach others concerning
- 30:45substitutionary sacrifice. Now, the angel of the Lord would
- 30:48stop him from killing his own son.
- 30:50Sun and we provide a substitute on the mountain called for seen
- 30:55by God. All that would be given to pass
- 31:00down. So he would know something about
- 31:05atonement, something about forgiveness, because he would
- 31:09act as he preached for his children, in chapter, 1 to offer
- 31:12sacrifices for them. So he learned well, he listened,
- 31:17well, he obtained the knowledge. Well, We knew he was God fearing
- 31:26we know he's up, right? And we know that Abraham was
- 31:29justified by faith. He was declared righteous.
- 31:33Right. Abraham was Book of Genesis 15
- 31:36chapter. So, if Abraham was declared
- 31:38righteous and Joe was an upright, man, that his
- 31:41righteousness was given to him by God as Abraham's was, he knew
- 31:45about Grace because Noah was graced by God, Genesis chapter
- 31:496, he survived the flood. And Noah's Three Sons Shem, ham
- 31:56and japheth would pass down the fact that they have been graced
- 32:00by God. So you're certain of the grace
- 32:02of God. So he says, I know.
- 32:08That My Redeemer Lives. It's an expression of intensity,
- 32:13but note, this is an expression of intimacy.
- 32:18I know that my redeemer lives, you don't see.
- 32:23I know that your Redeemer Lives he didn't say, I know there is a
- 32:27redeemer he didn't say, I think there's a redeemer He says, I
- 32:34know that my redeemer lives. In other words, it's an
- 32:38expression of intimacy on job sparked, not just intensity, but
- 32:43intimacy, he's my redeemer. How do you know that?
- 32:52How do you know that God was his personal?
- 32:56Redeemer. He is mine.
- 33:02All of his friends had abandoned him.
- 33:06All at turned. Against him.
- 33:10Paul would say I know whom I have believed and am persuaded.
- 33:19A statement just like Joe would make.
- 33:20I know that my redeemer lives. I have no question about that.
- 33:27This is the only thing that gets him through his difficult times.
- 33:31He has a redeemer. It's his own personal Redeemer.
- 33:38There's ownership there. And my redeemer.
- 33:44Lives. So important, but not this.
- 33:52These verses no Express. His intensity.
- 33:58His intimacy. But his identity.
- 34:04The identity of the Redeemer. And the Very fact.
- 34:10That he is, who he is because of his Redeemer.
- 34:15In other words, the word Redeemer go L Kinsman.
- 34:20I know that my redeemer my Kinsmen my Champion.
- 34:26My Advocate lives. So, he knows he has an advocate.
- 34:33And so he talks about a Kinsman a redeemer.
- 34:38Now, listen carefully job knows. The plans and purposes of God.
- 34:46More so than most people know. Job knows about the Redemptive
- 34:52purposes of God way before the book of Exodus during the time
- 34:57of Moses. When God tells Moses, I'm coming
- 35:01down and Moses says, who shall I say sent me?
- 35:07You tell him. I am that.
- 35:10I am sent you. Which was next is 3, his
- 35:14memorial name, right? I'm going to be remembered from
- 35:18generation to generation based on my name, my Memorial name
- 35:21because I am a rescuer, I am a deliverer, I am a savior, I am a
- 35:26redeemer. So job knew more about God or
- 35:32knew more about God in an earlier time than Moses ever
- 35:36knew about God. because you see, Job understood the purposes of
- 35:43God. The redeeming purposes of God
- 35:45that he would be a Kinsman. He would be a next of kin who
- 35:49would, who would fight his battles for him and be his
- 35:52ultimate Champion. His ultimate deliver his
- 35:55ultimate rescuer way before God ever gave his memorial name.
- 36:00Those three Hebrew confidence that make up the tetragrammaton
- 36:03that talk to us about God being llave.
- 36:06That's that's his name, that's his memorial name.
- 36:09But way before that, Joe begins to understand the identity of
- 36:16his God, he is the Redeemer. He's a deliverer.
- 36:21He's a savior. She says, I know that my
- 36:26redeemer. Lives.
- 36:31I know that my redeemer lives, this statement, expresses not
- 36:35just his intensity, his intimacy, his identity.
- 36:41But it expresses the immortality of his Redeemer.
- 36:45He didn't say I know that my redeemer will live.
- 36:51I know that my redeemer has lived.
- 36:57He said, no, I know that my redeemer lives.
- 37:01He is a living Redeemer. He's not a dead Redeemer.
- 37:07remember in Revelation chapter 11, when the Lord God comes
- 37:10before, John on the Isle of Patmos and says, I In the first
- 37:18and the last, the Alpha, and the Omega, the living one.
- 37:23Behold. I was dead but I Am Alive
- 37:28forevermore. speaking of the immortality of the son of God,
- 37:35Peter would say Matthew, 16 verse number 16, Thou Art the
- 37:38Christ, the son of the Living God in Psalm 42, verse number 2.
- 37:43It says my soul thirsts for the Living.
- 37:47God Psalm 84 verse number to my heart and my flesh Sing For Joy
- 37:51to the Living God, in John 14:19 Christ had because I live, you
- 37:56too, shall live. Other words, job knew that his
- 37:59Redeemer Lives Job, believe that a resurrection.
- 38:04How could Joe believe in a resurrection?
- 38:06When he never seen a resurrection?
- 38:09He was 11. Abraham.
- 38:14Abraham believed God took his cell up on Mount Moriah and he
- 38:18was 11 tells us that he believed that God would raise him from
- 38:22the dead. Abraham believed that a
- 38:24resurrection if I have to kill the promised son, my only
- 38:28begotten son and this is the promise of the seed.
- 38:31That's going to come. Then God must have a plan to
- 38:35raise him from the dead and the resurrection of the Messiah was
- 38:38always the plan. So, how does job know that his
- 38:44Redeemer Lives unless he believes in a resurrection of
- 38:51his Redeemer? Speaking of the immortality of
- 38:55his Redeemer. Now listen. we're just getting
- 39:00started because now, I'm going to absolutely blow your mind.
- 39:08Listen to this. He says this.
- 39:17As for me, I know that my redeemer lives.
- 39:20And at the last, he will take a stand on.
- 39:27The Earth. This expresses, the
- 39:34invincibility. Of his Redeemer.
- 39:40I know. That not only does my redeemer
- 39:43live. But at the last at the end, he
- 39:50will stand on the earth. That's not the Incarnation.
- 39:58That is the second coming of the Messiah.
- 40:02And you can say, well how do you know that that's very easy to
- 40:06understand when you think about it?
- 40:10The invincibility of the Messiah.
- 40:14Then the last days he will stand, let me show you what it
- 40:17says in the book of Zechariah. Zechariah 14, verse number four
- 40:21in that day. His feet the museum, see the
- 40:23Messiah will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of
- 40:27Jerusalem on the east. and the Mount of Olives which will be
- 40:31split in its middle from east to west by a very large Valley
- 40:36said, half of the mountain will move toward the North and the
- 40:38other half toward The South. Other words, when the Lord God
- 40:44returns at the end, he will eventually stand on the Mount of
- 40:47Olives and split the mount. There he will stand.
- 40:51Why? Every conqueror of Jerusalem,
- 40:54stood, on the Mount of Olives, raise their soar, to the heavens
- 40:58as the ultimate conqueror of the city.
- 41:01Sigh. I'll do the same because he's
- 41:04the ultimate Victor. He's Invincible.
- 41:07The Bible. Also says these words in the
- 41:11Book of Micah In the Book of Micah.
- 41:17The first chapter. It says in verses 2 to 4 these
- 41:21words hero people, all of you listen to Earth and all it
- 41:25contains and let the Lord God be witness against you.
- 41:28The Lord, from his holy Temple, for behold the Lord is coming
- 41:31forth from his place. He will come down and tread on
- 41:35the high places of the Earth, the mountains will melt under
- 41:38him in The Valleys will be split like Wax before the fire.
- 41:42Like water. Pour down a steep place.
- 41:45In other words God will stand upon the Earth Josie's I know
- 41:49that my redeemer liveth Lives. And at the last, he will take
- 41:52his stand on the earth. Listen to Book of Ezekiel
- 41:56Ezekiel chapter 43 Verse number. Five.
- 42:01In the spirit, lifted me up and brought me into the inner court
- 42:03and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house.
- 42:05Then I heard one speaking to me from the house while the man was
- 42:08standing beside me. He said to me, son of man, this
- 42:10is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my
- 42:14feet where I would dwell among the sons of Israel forever.
- 42:18In other words, The Souls of my feet will stand on this place on
- 42:21Mount Zion in the temple and I will rule over my people forever
- 42:25job knows that how does Joe know that?
- 42:29Did God some out? Reveal it to him in a dream?
- 42:32Nope, that's it about that. The guy can then speak to jump
- 42:37about this? No, this ain't her.
- 42:40How does job know that? Before the Flood, there was one
- 42:46profit. Just one.
- 42:51And that Prophet prophesied. Not about the first coming.
- 42:56But the second coming of the Messiah.
- 43:02He's recorded in Genesis chapter 5.
- 43:06The book of Jude tells us what He prophesied.
- 43:13It was also about these men that is apostates that Enoch in the
- 43:19Seventh Generation from Adam prophesied.
- 43:22So there's one Prophet Before the Flood.
- 43:24His name is Enoch. And the prophecy that he gave
- 43:28was not about the first coming, it was about the second coming.
- 43:30Let's see what he says. Behold the Lord came with many
- 43:34thousands of his holy ones to execute judgment upon all and to
- 43:39convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly Deeds which they
- 43:42have done in an ungodly way and of all the harsh things which
- 43:46ungodly Sinners have spoken against him.
- 43:51So why the Book of Genesis is not record the prophecy of
- 43:55judgment Jude to the inspiration of the spirit of God records for
- 43:59us to prophesy of Enochs judgment.
- 44:04And Enoch prophesied in such a way that Methuselah in the year
- 44:08that he dies, it shall happen. There will be judgment upon the
- 44:11Earth and there was judgment. There was a flood that came and
- 44:14there was judgment but it was a precursor to the ultimate
- 44:17judgment. That would come when Messiah
- 44:19comes back with all of his holy ones.
- 44:22That's recorded in Revelation 19.
- 44:24That's according to Matthew chapter 25, when our Lord
- 44:26returns again, the second time with all of his Saints, with all
- 44:29of his angels, with all of us, holy ones.
- 44:32To establish his kingdom on the earth.
- 44:34Listen job. Was the pre melilla analysts?
- 44:40Okay, he was premillennial before the term was ever
- 44:44existed. He believed the second coming of
- 44:48Messiah and he would Rule, and Reign on the earth.
- 44:50In the last days, his feet will be on this Earth.
- 44:58He will rule the invincibility of his Redeemer, his Redeemer
- 45:03Lives, he doesn't die. He lives.
- 45:05Not that he died. Yes, the Lord said.
- 45:08I am the living one behold. I was dead.
- 45:11But I'm Alive forevermore. Well, God can't die.
- 45:14God, the spirit. So God becomes, man.
- 45:18So man can die. He's God right?
- 45:22The perfect sinless. Sacrifice.
- 45:25And raises himself from the dead.
- 45:28In Joe begins to understand Resurrection.
- 45:31He begins understand the Incarnation.
- 45:33He begins to understand Redemption.
- 45:36He begins to understand the revelation of Messiah at the
- 45:38end. All this And this is what keeps
- 45:42him going from time to time. He has learned.
- 45:45All this has been passed down. Listen, very carefully so
- 45:47important why? Because Enoch would prophesy and
- 45:52the flood would come, who was the preacher of righteousness
- 45:56Before the Flood. No, all right.
- 46:00Peter tells us in second Peter, chapter 2, that that Noah was a
- 46:04preacher of righteousness. He preached for 120 years but
- 46:07everybody dies except no one is family.
- 46:11He has three sons Shem, ham and japheth and the Blessed sun is
- 46:18Shem. The blessing will come through
- 46:22the line of Shem. Shems name means the name.
- 46:29The blessing comes to the line of the name.
- 46:34Abraham is a descendant of Shem. Why?
- 46:42Because in Genesis chapter 12, just 11 tells us that Abraham is
- 46:45this tentative of Shem but it's just as if the 12 The blessing
- 46:50is given Abraham that in you in your seed?
- 46:55All the nations of the world will be blessed, why?
- 46:58Because the blessing comes to the line of the name.
- 47:01The line of Shem, not japheth not ham, but Shen that's how God
- 47:06designed it. Abraham's a descendant of Shem.
- 47:12Abraham's given the promise from God about how he will make his
- 47:17name. Great not just Abraham's name
- 47:20but the name of the Messiah that comes to the line of the name
- 47:24for know, that the name of Jesus every knee will bow.
- 47:27Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the
- 47:30glory of God the father, right? We know Philippians 2 tells us
- 47:34that every knee will bow and confess.
- 47:37Christ is Lord glaciers three, six and nine talks about the
- 47:40blessing that God gave to Abraham.
- 47:43Why? Because Abraham is in the line
- 47:45of the blessing of the name. So, Job. who was a contemporary
- 47:57of Abraham, but at the learn all this Through Abraham his son,
- 48:03Isaac, his son, Jacob. It will be passed down to him.
- 48:08So he could actually say I know that my redeemer lives and I
- 48:11know that one day, one day in the latter days at the very end,
- 48:15he will stand upon the Earth. He knows that Nina Adam and Eve
- 48:22able Noah Shem in the list, goes on and on and all this being
- 48:29passed down verbally By Word of Mouth.
- 48:34Does he know everything? No.
- 48:36Does he even know what he's saying to all the degree in
- 48:39which it's meant to be? Probably not.
- 48:44But he does know you as the Redeemer, he is a Kinsman.
- 48:48It's called a go l. And Advocate a champion.
- 48:53He knows that the Redeemer Lives and that one day, he will stand
- 48:57upon the Earth. He will rule and reign.
- 49:01They says this. He says.
- 49:08Even after my skin is destroyed yet from my flesh, I shall see.
- 49:17God. That expresses his in dispute
- 49:23ability. It's indisputable.
- 49:27I know that when I'm dead. Guess who I'm going to see?
- 49:32I'm going to see my redeemer. I'm going to see my God.
- 49:36I'm going to see him face to face.
- 49:39Over in, in psalm. Sawmill 11.
- 49:48No, I'm sorry. Yes I'm 11.
- 49:51Verse number 7. It says these words for the Lord
- 49:54is righteous. He loves righteousness.
- 49:56The upright will behold His face and that was written long after
- 50:04job, job chapter 17 verse number 15.
- 50:08And as for me, I should behold your face and righteousness.
- 50:11I will be satisfied with your likeness.
- 50:13When I awake, there is something than jobs mind, that was
- 50:18absolutely indisputable. When my flesh is gone when I
- 50:24have died. I know one thing absent from the
- 50:28body. I'm going to see his face.
- 50:30Ace present with the Lord. Abraham had I mean Joe had this
- 50:35tremendous faith in this God that was indisputable because he
- 50:40knew his God was invincible. He understood the identity of
- 50:44his Redeemer which made him to be so intense with his passion
- 50:48and conviction that he could speak with Assurance.
- 50:53I know that my redeemer lives In the latter days, he will stand
- 50:58upon the earth when I'm dead. I'm going to see his face.
- 51:03This is his hope. There's nobody else.
- 51:08There's nothing else to Hope in. There's no one else to trust in
- 51:11everybody else is gone. You already read earlier in job,
- 51:14jet 19, his friends are gone, his family's gone, his wife
- 51:17loves his breath. So she will be speaking to him.
- 51:21So he has no friends. He has no family, is nothing is
- 51:24no servants, no one obeys him, no one listens to him, even the
- 51:27kids despise them. He's got no one but he has a
- 51:30redeemer lives. My Redeemer in the midst of your
- 51:34loneliness. In the midst of your pain.
- 51:35You have a redeemer. You have an advocate, you have a
- 51:38champion. You have a warrior, he's got
- 51:41himself. Who lives and Reigns.
- 51:45He's not a dead. God, he's a, he's a living God.
- 51:49Who knows everything about you. And job says this.
- 51:54Verse 27. Who am I?
- 51:57Myself Shall Behold who my eyes will see?
- 52:01And not another My heart faints. Within Me.
- 52:09A statement that expresses not just his intensity, not just his
- 52:14intimacy, not just as identity, not just as immortality.
- 52:18His invincibility is in dispute ability, but his individuality
- 52:24When I die, I myself. Am going to see him. job knows
- 52:31more about heaven than, you know, We'll see when we die.
- 52:35We think we're going to see our friends.
- 52:39Joe Gibson. I can see my family.
- 52:41Don't see my kids again, so that's not on his mind.
- 52:45Why? He's an upright God-fearing
- 52:46righteous, man. That's why all he cares about
- 52:49seen him. God.
- 52:52Thought matters. See, he knows what heaven is
- 52:55going to be like, I'm going to see his face.
- 52:57I'm going to see my redeemer. I'm going to see my God, he
- 53:00lives and because he lives and will stand upon the Earth.
- 53:02I'm going to see him when I'm dead.
- 53:05Jim knows that. In this is Job's motive for
- 53:11living through all this pain and isolation when no one else cares
- 53:15about his life, his Redeemer. He's intense about that.
- 53:23He's intimate with that Redeemer.
- 53:24He's mine. I know who he is.
- 53:29I don't question that. He's absolutely invincible.
- 53:35Because he lives and reigns forever.
- 53:38And one thing that's indisputable is that one day,
- 53:41I'm going to see his face. When I see his face, there's
- 53:46only one thing I'm concerned about.
- 53:49And that's only seeing his face and no one else's.
- 53:55This, which gets them through his tough time.
- 53:59This is his second great confession.
- 54:03Which, as I said earlier. Unveils the ministry of God as a
- 54:09redeemer. And unleashes the message that
