- 0:00Speaker 1: Coach of you begin with a couple thoughts, then we'll
- 0:02Speaker 1: take some questions.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yeah, this game was very indicative of how this group
- 0:06Speaker 2: is played throughout the season. Unselfish basketball, a connected group
- 0:11Speaker 2: who defends, gets out in transition and then shares the basketball.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I thought our sister turnover ratio. I thought our job
- 0:18Speaker 2: on the glass, especially before the game was in doubt,
- 0:20Speaker 2: was as impressive as anything. And the one thing we
- 0:24Speaker 2: thought really jumped out was our ability to get fifty
- 0:26Speaker 2: to fifty basketballs and be quicker to the ball than
- 0:29Speaker 2: Arizona tonight.
- 0:29Speaker 3: But just very proud of our effort. What a great group.
- 0:33Speaker 4: We'll take questions for the student athletes. First, let's start
- 0:35Speaker 4: right in the center. Question for Elliott or a die
- 0:39Speaker 4: or Trey?
- 0:41Speaker 5: Lindsay Schanel the athletic For Elliott and Trey, I think
- 0:44Speaker 5: everyone was surprised when Yaxhall came back in the second half.
- 0:47Speaker 5: He looked like he was in some obvious pain, but
- 0:50Speaker 5: he seemed determined to play. What did he say to
- 0:54Speaker 5: you guys at halftime and what do you think about
- 0:56Speaker 5: his gutsy performance?
- 0:58Speaker 1: Well, ask Elliot to take that one first, Then Trey.
- 1:01Speaker 6: We didn't we didn't really get a lot of time
- 1:03Speaker 6: to talk to him because, like we were on the
- 1:04Speaker 6: court in a halftime, he's getting treatment. But we know
- 1:07Speaker 6: what type of guy Yaksual is, Like, if he could play,
- 1:09Speaker 6: he's gonna play. So we asked him, like, are you good.
- 1:13Speaker 6: He said yeah, So we expect him to be on
- 1:15Speaker 6: the court and we told him when we got He
- 1:17Speaker 6: told us when he got on the court that he's
- 1:19Speaker 6: gonna give it his all.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So yeah, traight.
- 1:22Speaker 7: Next, Yeah, I think it just shows you know, the
- 1:25Speaker 7: guy who Yaxual is. I mean, he just wants to
- 1:27Speaker 7: put it all on the floor for Michigan and he
- 1:29Speaker 7: wants to give the fans what they came here for.
- 1:31Speaker 7: So you know, I'm just really grateful to have him
- 1:34Speaker 7: as a teammate. And you know, he's he's one of
- 1:36Speaker 7: the best players in the country and he really showed
- 1:38Speaker 7: that tonight. But he's he's selfless as well, So I'm
- 1:40Speaker 7: just really grateful to be around him.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Next question for the Michigan players is going to come
- 1:45Speaker 1: from Robert left side center.
- 1:47Speaker 8: Roder O'Connell Wall Street Journal. This is for Elliott and Andy,
- 1:51Speaker 8: all the transfers brought into Michigan. This here you guys
- 1:54Speaker 8: have obviously been playing great reach the championship game. What
- 1:57Speaker 8: do you see from coach May and the coaching staff
- 2:00Speaker 8: that's like, you know, you guys mold such a cohesive
- 2:02Speaker 8: identity in such a short time.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Elliott, I just think they did a really good job
- 2:07Speaker 6: on like putting five or four transfers or five players
- 2:11Speaker 6: on the court at all times that are really good
- 2:13Speaker 6: at passing the ball.
- 2:14Speaker 3: And I think they knew that when they were recruiting
- 2:16Speaker 3: all of us.
- 2:16Speaker 6: So just having five people on the court that are
- 2:18Speaker 6: all playmakers just and also great scores just helps us
- 2:22Speaker 6: like have connectivity on the court for sure.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Did you want to diet to take that else?
- 2:26Speaker 9: I ever?
- 2:27Speaker 1: Or you're good? Okay?
- 2:31Speaker 10: Me?
- 2:32Speaker 11: Oh uh Now I think same. They think they did
- 2:36Speaker 11: a great job putting like, as you said, players that
- 2:39Speaker 11: they they were not selfies.
- 2:42Speaker 12: Uh.
- 2:42Speaker 11: And I think now in the era that we are
- 2:45Speaker 11: with the transfer portal, we just gotta uh learn and
- 2:49Speaker 11: adapt as soon as possible to what we have and
- 2:51Speaker 11: the different teams that we that we play. So I
- 2:55Speaker 11: think just, uh, you just gotta change and we got
- 2:59Speaker 11: to learn every day, you know, so we can play together.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Second row center.
- 3:04Speaker 10: Robbie Lestella bracketued dot Org. My questions for Trey, You
- 3:08Speaker 10: guys came out of the gates with a sense of
- 3:10Speaker 10: physicality and energy that Arizona was trying to catch up to.
- 3:13Speaker 10: It was that kind of the goal coming into this one.
- 3:15Speaker 10: And what do you guys kind of feel like helped
- 3:17Speaker 10: you set the tone early?
- 3:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean during the season we have had we
- 3:23Speaker 7: have had like some type of mental lapses during big games,
- 3:26Speaker 7: but I think we came out and we really knew
- 3:29Speaker 7: how high the stakes were and we just really wanted
- 3:31Speaker 7: to leave it all on the floor. I mean, we
- 3:34Speaker 7: had nothing, nothing left really, I mean, we only have
- 3:36Speaker 7: a couple of days left with you know, these bonds
- 3:39Speaker 7: that we've made throughout the summer. So I think it's
- 3:41Speaker 7: just it just really shows a lot about our team
- 3:43Speaker 7: to be able to flip that switch and you know,
- 3:46Speaker 7: just push for you know more in the second half.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And the center of their own third row.
- 3:52Speaker 13: This question is for Elliott. You guys have had a
- 3:54Speaker 13: lot of experience in blowouts. You got to blow out
- 3:57Speaker 13: of the final four. Did having all that experience help
- 4:01Speaker 13: you guys know how to navigate it? And also, separately,
- 4:04Speaker 13: do you like that coach may keeps the starters in
- 4:08Speaker 13: late in these kind of games and doesn't like go
- 4:11Speaker 13: all bench unit really early. You know, how do you
- 4:14Speaker 13: guys process that with all the experience you've had in
- 4:16Speaker 13: these big wins.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And that was for Elliott Good Elliott.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Yeah, we felt like we had a lot of games
- 4:24Speaker 6: like this and we learned from them. Some games the
- 4:26Speaker 6: teams actually came back, so we stressed in the in
- 4:29Speaker 6: the huddle, like keep our foot on the gas because
- 4:31Speaker 6: you know, as March as April, so anything could happen,
- 4:35Speaker 6: like they could come back from a thirty point deficit.
- 4:37Speaker 1: And we'll go up front to the right. This is
- 4:40Speaker 1: the red microphone Mitch.
- 4:42Speaker 14: Yeah, this is for Elliott. Right from the beginning, you
- 4:46Speaker 14: seem to come out and have great control of the
- 4:48Speaker 14: game and be very calm at the same time. How
- 4:51Speaker 14: were you able to do that in such a big
- 4:53Speaker 14: stage And did you feel that you had to do
- 4:56Speaker 14: even more of that once Sacull got the two fouls
- 4:58Speaker 14: and then went out.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 5:00Speaker 6: I think that comes from just like the coaching, like
- 5:03Speaker 6: they have so much confidence in me. You know, I
- 5:05Speaker 6: missed a lot of shots today, I had a lot
- 5:07Speaker 6: of turnovers today, but I didn't hear one thing about
- 5:09Speaker 6: that from the coaching staff, And it just helps me
- 5:12Speaker 6: stay calm. Like if I turn the ball over and
- 5:14Speaker 6: I look over at coach, they're calm, So that just
- 5:17Speaker 6: helps me stay calm as well. And definitely I try
- 5:19Speaker 6: to be more aggressive when Yax came out.
- 5:21Speaker 1: For sure upfront in the center, all.
- 5:23Speaker 15: Right, Jake Singer with Mazon bruises for Elliott and Trey,
- 5:26Speaker 15: you guys in the first half from three as a
- 5:29Speaker 15: team shot five for sixteen. In the first eight minutes
- 5:31Speaker 15: of the second half, you guys combined six for eight,
- 5:33Speaker 15: and you guys each had two in that time span.
- 5:36Speaker 15: He just talk about that particular run and really getting
- 5:38Speaker 15: it going from beyond the arc when Arizona was not
- 5:41Speaker 15: getting their shots to fall. You guys, just as a
- 5:42Speaker 15: team cohesively, really got to go.
- 5:44Speaker 1: In Elliott first, then Trey. Please.
- 5:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I think it kind of takes a little time
- 5:49Speaker 6: to get used to shooting at game speed in this
- 5:51Speaker 6: arena because we never played here before. But and also
- 5:54Speaker 6: me and Trey talked at halftime and we told each
- 5:56Speaker 6: other that we had to hit shots this half, and
- 5:58Speaker 6: we came out at each other's back.
- 6:00Speaker 7: With that right, yeah, I would just saying it's really
- 6:03Speaker 7: a testament to the work we put and I mean
- 6:05Speaker 7: when you when you come in before practice. I mean,
- 6:07Speaker 7: everybody's getting their own individual working and we all work
- 6:10Speaker 7: on our games. So I mean when we're in the
- 6:12Speaker 7: spotlight like this, we all have the convenants that we
- 6:15Speaker 7: can you know, run off you know, two threes in
- 6:17Speaker 7: a row or whatever that may be in the in
- 6:19Speaker 7: the situation.
- 6:20Speaker 1: I pray God n Espanol de Mara right.
- 6:23Speaker 16: Well, I likes Rica asked the posit you mean Spanol
- 6:31Speaker 16: final four the Balance York study recap. They tend to.
- 6:39Speaker 11: Start, uh, who are stuff profession?
- 6:59Speaker 17: You know.
- 7:01Speaker 11: I started prom been in as an annual Duro sims he.
- 7:23Speaker 1: That can you summarize in English as well? Give us
- 7:28Speaker 1: the gest Yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 11: Sorry, I was just saying, like the process of being
- 7:35Speaker 11: here in this year, like the I'm so grateful and
- 7:38Speaker 11: happy that I can. I am able to play with
- 7:40Speaker 11: this group. Uh, I'm able to to fight for the
- 7:45Speaker 11: for the national title. But it was a process just
- 7:50Speaker 11: coming from maybe two years that I didn't have the
- 7:52Speaker 11: opportunity to to show what I was able to do
- 7:55Speaker 11: and now just to to be in this position. But
- 7:59Speaker 11: it was long, long year, tough year. Uh, but it
- 8:04Speaker 11: was uh, it was fine too. So I'm just we're
- 8:08Speaker 11: just having fun. We know it's just one more Uh,
- 8:12Speaker 11: so we're gonna we're gonna try too good.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Thank you. Final questions for the student athletes in the center.
- 8:17Speaker 18: Brian Gillis sp nation this is for Elliott, And then
- 8:19Speaker 18: if either other player wants to jump in, what does
- 8:22Speaker 18: it mean to have a guy like Roddy whose game
- 8:23Speaker 18: doesn't always jump off the stat sheet that seems to
- 8:25Speaker 18: be such a steadying influence on both ends of the
- 8:27Speaker 18: ball or on both ends of the floor.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Rather, we're gonna take it for Elliott, and then the
- 8:31Speaker 4: student athletes go to the locker room.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Yeah, it means everything. We had a lot of new
- 8:35Speaker 6: guys coming here and he was one of the returners,
- 8:37Speaker 6: and as soon as we got here, he showed us
- 8:39Speaker 6: the culture of Michigan.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Like he said, he set the tone for all of us.
- 8:43Speaker 3: He taught us so much.
- 8:45Speaker 6: And just having a guy we can always rely on
- 8:47Speaker 6: like that, Like, no matter if he's hidden shots or
- 8:50Speaker 6: not hitting shots, we can always allow him to do
- 8:52Speaker 6: what he does. So it's always great to have a
- 8:54Speaker 6: player like that on the team. For sure.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Well to thank and congratulate Trey, a guy and Elliott.
- 8:59Speaker 4: They're gonna head back to the Michigan locker room. Should
- 9:01Speaker 4: be open till about twelve to twenty five. We're in
- 9:05Speaker 4: a startuprints. Did you have one for Coach May? We'll
- 9:07Speaker 4: let the student athletes clear the days and then we'll
- 9:09Speaker 4: get one. Gentlemen to your right first, please thank you.
- 9:14Speaker 3: See if I.
- 9:15Speaker 19: Could get two questions, if you could address what a
- 9:18Speaker 19: Die did for you today? Yeah, and also when you
- 9:22Speaker 19: actual showed the perseverance to get back in the game
- 9:26Speaker 19: in the second half and he hit those two threes,
- 9:29Speaker 19: what did that mean to you and the team?
- 9:31Speaker 2: Well, I think the guys know that Yax is about
- 9:34Speaker 2: winning and from day one, he's always just been one
- 9:37Speaker 2: of the guys. And when you have a first team
- 9:39Speaker 2: All American potential Player of the Year that just wants
- 9:42Speaker 2: to be one of one of the dudes, it helps
- 9:44Speaker 2: everyone else fall in line and just accept the role.
- 9:48Speaker 2: And our glue guys were awesome tonight. The second question
- 9:51Speaker 2: was what Die was sensational? I mean he was at
- 9:56Speaker 2: the rim catching lobbs, who's a foce down low? He
- 9:59Speaker 2: was a pressure release top I mean, he's just such
- 10:02Speaker 2: a smart basketball player, and you know, obviously his rem protection.
- 10:08Speaker 3: He did a great job on Pete.
- 10:09Speaker 2: He did a great job of forcing a lot of
- 10:11Speaker 2: those misses around the basket because of his aggression.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Same area of the room.
- 10:16Speaker 20: Tom Crawford press pass, Fox forty seven, Lansing Dusty at halftime,
- 10:21Speaker 20: Elliot's two of fourteen and he ends up with a
- 10:26Speaker 20: double double. But the halftime, even though in two fourteen
- 10:29Speaker 20: the TBS staff at halftime broadcast you said I called
- 10:32Speaker 20: him by far the best player on the court. When
- 10:35Speaker 20: did this additional gear kick in for him? As a
- 10:39Speaker 20: distributor and as leader of this team.
- 10:42Speaker 3: As a distributor, he's always been that.
- 10:44Speaker 2: As far as his leaderships, he's been really consistent with
- 10:47Speaker 2: that as well. He leads more with his energy and effort,
- 10:51Speaker 2: and I thought he took what the game gave him
- 10:53Speaker 2: in the first half of you you mentioned his attempts.
- 10:56Speaker 2: A couple of those were passes off the backboard. Is
- 11:00Speaker 2: so good in his drops. We didn't think we'd build
- 11:02Speaker 2: a throw traditional lobs, So we've spent about five to
- 11:04Speaker 2: ten minutes the last three days working on the lob
- 11:08Speaker 2: off the backboard, so he didn't really have that many attempts,
- 11:10Speaker 2: and then we told him if he got caught in
- 11:12Speaker 2: between he and they forced him to shoot those We
- 11:14Speaker 2: don't shoot a lot of floaters a midties, but if
- 11:16Speaker 2: he does have to shoot them, just make sure if
- 11:18Speaker 2: you missilem me miss him along because he's going to
- 11:20Speaker 2: pull the big over and it's going to give a
- 11:21Speaker 2: die and Res and those guys an opportunity to rebound
- 11:23Speaker 2: on the back side. So and then obviously he got
- 11:26Speaker 2: it going in the second half and made several big
- 11:29Speaker 2: big shots and found.
- 11:30Speaker 1: His rhythm staying up front on the right side.
- 11:34Speaker 21: John Bardon the Wolverine Dusty, you had yaks for five
- 11:39Speaker 21: and a half minutes in the first half and a
- 11:42Speaker 21: die playing with two fouls, and yet you pull away
- 11:46Speaker 21: somewhat at the half. Talk about how crucial that stretch
- 11:50Speaker 21: was and how you were able to pull that off.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Well, obviously, with Res had two fouls, a die had
- 11:55Speaker 2: two fouls, YACs I think had two fouls and a
- 11:58Speaker 2: couple and two injuries, and so we were obviously extremely concerned.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Our Staf's done an unbelievable job of managing the minutes
- 12:06Speaker 2: and the rotations and getting those guys in and stealing
- 12:08Speaker 2: a few minutes here and there. But when we went small,
- 12:12Speaker 2: we were obviously concerned when you're playing Arizona going small,
- 12:15Speaker 2: and we were able.
- 12:16Speaker 3: To get stops.
- 12:17Speaker 2: The guards were flatting, wings were flying in and keeping
- 12:20Speaker 2: balls alive, and once we were able to get them,
- 12:22Speaker 2: we could We turned our disadvantage on one end doing
- 12:25Speaker 2: an advantage on the other and had them spaced out.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And I thought we generated some great looks in the
- 12:30Speaker 2: first half and they didn't go down, and then the
- 12:33Speaker 2: same shots dropped in the second.
- 12:35Speaker 1: On the left side to the right of the aisle.
- 12:37Speaker 22: Dan, yeah, he does the Dan Wilkanyahu's sports. I know
- 12:40Speaker 22: you you know, don't have guys who've played in the
- 12:42Speaker 22: Final four before. But what kind of a difference do
- 12:44Speaker 22: you think it made to, you know, have a bunch
- 12:46Speaker 22: of guys who've been around the block and college basketball,
- 12:49Speaker 22: to you know, be able to come out here and
- 12:51Speaker 22: as you said, I think play the way.
- 12:52Speaker 1: You normally play.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yeah, just that these guys have such a I mean
- 12:58Speaker 2: our guys, Arizona's guys, even the young players, they have
- 13:00Speaker 2: such a I guess extensive background playing high level basketball games.
- 13:06Speaker 2: But whether it's national team stuff or even this year,
- 13:10Speaker 2: we scheduled incredibly aggressive. We have the second toughest schedule
- 13:14Speaker 2: in the country behind my friend Nate at Alabama, who
- 13:16Speaker 2: tries to have the toughest schedule every year. We followed
- 13:19Speaker 2: that model, and so we just felt like we were
- 13:21Speaker 2: battle tested and we were concerned that playing that schedule
- 13:25Speaker 2: the stamina, the mental stammana, the physical stamma that this
- 13:29Speaker 2: season can take going through the Big Ten play.
- 13:31Speaker 3: And I give our guys a lot of credit.
- 13:33Speaker 2: They've they've taken a back seat when they've needed to,
- 13:35Speaker 2: they've stepped up when they've needed to, and they just
- 13:38Speaker 2: it's a group that's it's very bright and they have
- 13:40Speaker 2: great self awareness.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Upfront of the left.
- 13:43Speaker 17: Seth Dusty Seth, Davis HOOPSTAHQ. I think Iron Ego would
- 13:46Speaker 17: call this question a triple yoxel. Okay, number one. You
- 13:50Speaker 17: brought them back kind of later in the second half
- 13:53Speaker 17: when the game was pretty well decided, wondering why take
- 13:57Speaker 17: that risk.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Well, apparently you guys missed the Duke game. The game
- 14:03Speaker 2: was already decided. Then we were playing Duke Tomorrow. They
- 14:07Speaker 2: were up nineteen correct in the second half, and who won.
- 14:11Speaker 2: So these being out and you're playing Arizona, one of
- 14:14Speaker 2: the best teams, I mean statistically the number one or
- 14:17Speaker 2: two team all year in the country, and you're up
- 14:19Speaker 2: twenty with ten minutes left, with eight and a half
- 14:21Speaker 2: minutes left, we didn't feel quite as confident as you
- 14:23Speaker 2: guys did that we could just hang, you know, put
- 14:26Speaker 2: the kids to bed, and he came in and just
- 14:30Speaker 2: La was in foul trouble and so he just held
- 14:33Speaker 2: it down.
- 14:35Speaker 3: So yeah, we obviously we felt like the game was
- 14:38Speaker 3: still in hand.
- 14:39Speaker 12: Up front on the right, Chris Pallas with the Wolverine
- 14:43Speaker 12: on three Dusty their game plan. Obviously, we used to
- 14:46Speaker 12: try to get physical with you. Can you just talk
- 14:47Speaker 12: about not just how your bigs handled that, but your
- 14:49Speaker 12: guards and did you challenge them before the game? Knowing
- 14:51Speaker 12: that was common.
- 14:53Speaker 2: We've played with great physicality all year. We've done the
- 14:57Speaker 2: great job in the weight room. We've done a I
- 14:59Speaker 2: think solid job of not beating our guys up in practice,
- 15:04Speaker 2: but yet preparing them for the mental and physical wear
- 15:07Speaker 2: and tear of these type of games.
- 15:08Speaker 3: But it's a mindset.
- 15:10Speaker 2: It's not as if Mares Johnson needs to get souped
- 15:13Speaker 2: up to go banging against those guys.
- 15:15Speaker 3: That's who he is by nature.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And then you look at Trey McKinney, how physical he
- 15:18Speaker 2: is for a freshman, Roddy and even a die. Dies
- 15:21Speaker 2: have really come a long way with his strength and
- 15:25Speaker 2: also just his mindset. But and yeah, I think the
- 15:28Speaker 2: guys the Big ten schedule prepared those guys for this.
- 15:31Speaker 1: We have a minute left in here, We're going to
- 15:33Speaker 1: go to forty and then Adam and wrap up.
- 15:35Speaker 3: How about Mitch.
- 15:37Speaker 9: Dusty Pat forty from Sports Illustrated. Arizona most of the
- 15:41Speaker 9: season has been longer, stronger than the teams they have played.
- 15:44Speaker 9: How much do you think you maybe knocked them back
- 15:47Speaker 9: on their heels with your size and strength early on.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Pat, I think a lot of it is just simply matchups.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And when we've played this model, this Arizona model this year,
- 15:56Speaker 2: and they're the souped up version, They're they're the steroid version.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Of Gonzaga and these other teams.
- 16:02Speaker 2: We've just felt like if a team relies on scoring
- 16:05Speaker 2: fifteen feet and in with a Die and Mares and
- 16:07Speaker 2: Yaks and Namuri Burnett and Rody Gull because of our
- 16:10Speaker 2: size length, it's just it's going to be tough to
- 16:12Speaker 2: score enough points fifteen feet and in if we're making
- 16:17Speaker 2: some shots and we're in any decent and we're in
- 16:18Speaker 2: a decent rhythm offensively, and I think that's what happened
- 16:20Speaker 2: to night. I do think we matched up well with Arizona,
- 16:24Speaker 2: better than we have some other teams this year.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Final question Adam right side.
- 16:28Speaker 23: Dusty Adam Zagoria Forbes Sports. When you were recruiting a
- 16:32Speaker 23: Die out of the portal, did you sort of envision
- 16:35Speaker 23: a bigger or different role for him than he had
- 16:37Speaker 23: at UCLA? And is what we saw tonight kind of
- 16:40Speaker 23: the ultimate on what you envisioned with him? I mean
- 16:43Speaker 23: he just set up here that he wasn't able to
- 16:45Speaker 23: show what he could do for two years.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not going to speak on any of where
- 16:50Speaker 2: these guys were before. A Die has put a lot
- 16:52Speaker 2: of work.
- 16:53Speaker 3: He obviously.
- 16:55Speaker 2: It takes time to grow into this role. He's physically
- 16:59Speaker 2: more mature or that he was. Did we envision this?
- 17:02Speaker 2: We we went back and we looked at his film
- 17:04Speaker 2: and playing with the Spanish national team, playing for Zaragoza,
- 17:07Speaker 2: playing and he had shown glimpses of this, I mean,
- 17:11Speaker 2: coming over he was I think projected on the mock
- 17:14Speaker 2: drafts is maybe a lottery pick, top ten pick, and
- 17:17Speaker 2: then just like a lot of guys are and then
- 17:19Speaker 2: those things change.
- 17:20Speaker 3: But he's playing ball at a high level and he's
- 17:24Speaker 3: he's added a lot to our program. Very very grateful
- 17:26Speaker 3: for him.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Want to congratulate, you want to go to Mitch.
- 17:30Speaker 14: Thank you for goodness, and just back to Elliott for
- 17:32Speaker 14: a second. I know by the end everybody had a
- 17:34Speaker 14: lot of stats, but the way teams come out in
- 17:37Speaker 14: these games often sets the tone for what it ends
- 17:39Speaker 14: up being. And can you just speak about him at
- 17:42Speaker 14: the start, especially with the AXL two quick valves, the
- 17:45Speaker 14: way that he sort of controlled the game not only
- 17:48Speaker 14: was shooting, but with steels and and with the passes
- 17:51Speaker 14: that he made in the assists that he got early on.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah, the thing with with Elliott and Jacks and Mares
- 17:57Speaker 2: and Diyning, these guys, all the portal guys, when we've
- 17:59Speaker 2: played our the biggest stages, in the most important moments,
- 18:02Speaker 2: their play has been elevated.
- 18:04Speaker 3: The assist coaches and we were talking about before.
- 18:06Speaker 2: The game, We're like, man, Elliot's gonna have a big
- 18:07Speaker 2: game because of the way Arizona defense, but also just
- 18:10Speaker 2: because of the stage he's fearless, he's incredibly competitive, and
- 18:15Speaker 2: then his basketball IQ is off the charts, and so
- 18:19Speaker 2: we felt very confident when you have someone that can
- 18:22Speaker 2: control the game like he does and also push tempo.
- 18:25Speaker 2: And then when he's not infoulcherable, he's a pest defensively
- 18:28Speaker 2: and he cancels ball screens.
- 18:31Speaker 3: He gets you out of your offense. So he's been
- 18:34Speaker 3: awesome for us.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Want to congratulate and thank coach May for joining us
- 18:38Speaker 4: here in the main interview room. The Michigan locker room
- 18:40Speaker 4: is open until till twenty five, so you guys can
- 18:43Speaker 4: head down there and get Michigan student athletes. The Arizona
- 18:46Speaker 4: locker room's also open un till twelve thirty three. Twelve
- 18:49Speaker 4: twenty five, Michigan, twelve thirty three, Arizona.
- 18:52Speaker 1: Thank you, coach
