- 0:56Speaker 4: our number one talk in Southern Miss football as the
- 0:58Speaker 4: Eagles get ready for next week. We'll have Keith Hardy
- 1:01Speaker 4: from Ameristar Casino talking a little week zero in sports
- 1:03Speaker 4: gaming coming up at 4.30. Right now, Ty Harden, the
- 1:06Speaker 4: head football coach, Tupelo Golden Wave. Kind enough to take
- 1:09Speaker 4: some time with us on a football Friday. Coach, always
- 1:11Speaker 4: appreciate you. Thanks for taking some time. I know Fridays
- 1:14Speaker 4: are hectic, so thanks for boxing out ten minutes.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I mean, I like drinking out of a fire hose.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I mean, it's fun.
- 1:18Speaker 5: I mean, the busier you are, the faster the day
- 1:21Speaker 5: goes by. You know, when it's slow, I'm not me,
- 1:25Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, you know you're one of my favorites, and
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean that. Appreciate that. You are, too.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Absolutely. Absolutely. So let me ask you this.
- 1:32Speaker 4: And I purposely have not asked you this just because
- 1:35Speaker 4: I know last year's championship game was just and I
- 1:37Speaker 4: know you've had to answer this a million times.
- 1:39Speaker 2: But before we talk this year, take us through.
- 1:41Speaker 4: The last few seconds on your side of that championship
- 1:45Speaker 4: game last year. And then also maybe how that motivated
- 1:47Speaker 4: your team for this year.
- 1:48Speaker 5: You know, I mean, it's part of it. I mean, obviously,
- 1:51Speaker 5: it was a day that the football guys didn't see fit.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yeah. you know, there's a lot of whole lot of wood.
- 1:56Speaker 2: It could have, should have that happened.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Maybe that whole drive, uh, first play, you know, we got,
- 2:00Speaker 5: we got a PI, um, you know, could have not
- 2:03Speaker 5: tugged right there.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Uh, next play could have batted a ball down.
- 2:06Speaker 5: And then the third play, we could have tackled a
- 2:08Speaker 5: guy and bounce. So it could have changed the whole course.
- 2:11Speaker 5: And so, you know, we've practiced that play, that Hail
- 2:15Speaker 5: Mary play about 111 times last year.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And so, um, you know, it was just.
- 2:20Speaker 5: A kind of a freak thing. Uh, we had four
- 2:22Speaker 5: guys going up for the ball. Um, Three guys trying
- 2:25Speaker 5: to bat it down, one guy trying to catch it.
- 2:27Speaker 5: And so it was kind of a– everybody's seen the
- 2:30Speaker 5: play five million times. It's kind of an act of God,
- 2:33Speaker 5: bounce off a helmet, bounce off a shoulder pad, float
- 2:35Speaker 5: in the air. And, you know, it was obviously what
- 2:38Speaker 5: it meant to be. But, you know, we've taken that moment,
- 2:42Speaker 5: and I think it's definitely motivated this team. It's– that
- 2:47Speaker 5: picture of that last play is the biggest picture in
- 2:49Speaker 5: our locker room.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:50Speaker 5: So they walk in every day and see that. And
- 2:53Speaker 5: the back of our workout shirts is two seconds. And so,
- 2:56Speaker 5: you know, I'm an intentional guy. Our guys appreciate that.
- 2:59Speaker 5: You know, we rub it in their face every day. But,
- 3:02Speaker 5: you know, it's made us better people. It's made us
- 3:05Speaker 5: learn that, hey, some bad stuff's going to happen to
- 3:07Speaker 5: you sometimes. And you've got to overcome it. And I
- 3:10Speaker 5: like how this group has overcome it this all offseason.
- 3:12Speaker 5: I like what you just said. And that's, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 5: the older I get, that's more of what football is.
- 3:17Speaker 5: means to me um you know as a guy's 50
- 3:20Speaker 5: now played football when i was younger wasn't ever great
- 3:22Speaker 5: loved the game at very average but football is the
- 3:25Speaker 5: reason i'm here doing what i do today and i've
- 3:27Speaker 5: always said football teaches you so many life lessons on
- 3:29Speaker 5: how to deal with adversity you know you wake up
- 3:32Speaker 5: some mornings and things are great in the afternoon it
- 3:34Speaker 5: can be chaotic so um it can help young men
- 3:37Speaker 5: grow and when they leave a place like tupelo or
- 3:40Speaker 5: brandon or wherever they go then it helps them i
- 3:42Speaker 5: think you know kind of deal with adversity in life
- 3:44Speaker 5: absolutely makes them better human beings period yeah um Better dads,
- 3:48Speaker 5: better fathers, better workplace, whatever you're doing. I mean, it's
- 3:52Speaker 5: the biggest thing is the lessons that you learn every
- 3:54Speaker 5: day in the sport, and that's why it's the greatest
- 3:56Speaker 5: sport ever.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Coach Ty Harden, head football coach, Tupelo joining us. Brandon
- 4:00Speaker 4: Tupelo going to tie one on here tonight here on
- 4:02Speaker 4: the Blue Turf. Coach, the field, I told you this
- 4:04Speaker 4: last year, y'all just got this redone, didn't you?
- 4:06Speaker 1: We did.
- 4:07Speaker 5: So that field was only three years old, so this
- 4:11Speaker 5: year's our third year for it. It's actually the second year.
- 4:14Speaker 5: We recently did a different infield. in it and so
- 4:18Speaker 5: it's been great um it's definitely different obviously we're one
- 4:21Speaker 5: of the original ones with the blue turf and now
- 4:24Speaker 5: we got the panel blue turf and our guys love it.
- 4:27Speaker 4: So let's talk a little bit about this version of
- 4:29Speaker 4: tupelo football i know you got three linebackers i believe
- 4:31Speaker 4: all have division one offers um there have been some
- 4:34Speaker 4: really good guys you guys bring them in early coach
- 4:37Speaker 4: them up well talk a little bit about this version
- 4:38Speaker 4: of tupelo football I.
- 4:39Speaker 5: Mean, obviously, I think, you know, the cover didn't bear.
- 4:43Speaker 5: I mean, we feel really good about every group that
- 4:46Speaker 5: we have. I think offensively, let's start on that side,
- 4:50Speaker 5: we're a totally different team than we were last year.
- 4:52Speaker 5: We didn't have a trigger man. I mean, it is
- 4:54Speaker 5: what it is. Everybody knew what we were doing, still
- 4:58Speaker 5: had to stop it. But, you know, we're going to
- 5:02Speaker 5: rely on the run game, what we do. But, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 5: we feel really good about our quarterback that we got,
- 5:06Speaker 5: Drew Dean. He's a guy that's a A veteran guy
- 5:09Speaker 5: has played a lot of 7A football. His composure is
- 5:13Speaker 5: my favorite thing about him. He's not too high. He's
- 5:15Speaker 5: not too low. The game's not fast for him. And
- 5:18Speaker 5: so when you've got a guy that can definitely, you know,
- 5:21Speaker 5: take a load off the box right there, you feel
- 5:23Speaker 5: really good about. And just this version of this team overall,
- 5:30Speaker 5: it's one of the closest groups that we have. And
- 5:33Speaker 5: I think it's because of what happened to us last year.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Winning it two years ago, what happened to us failing
- 5:38Speaker 5: last year at the end, I think it made a
- 5:40Speaker 5: group a lot tighter. They really like being around each other.
- 5:44Speaker 5: They like being around us. We like coaching them. Let's
- 5:49Speaker 5: say there's some issues that I don't have to fix
- 5:52Speaker 5: this year that I might have had to fix in
- 5:53Speaker 5: the past. One of my defensive coordinators, Coach Young, walking
- 5:58Speaker 5: down there, his favorite thing to say is we have
- 6:00Speaker 5: a really good nucleus. That's what we like and You know,
- 6:05Speaker 5: and we're always going to play great defense. We're excited
- 6:08Speaker 5: about the guys. It's probably the most athletic defense that
- 6:11Speaker 5: we've had. And so we'll see. We're a team that
- 6:15Speaker 5: I don't think we're near as good as we're going
- 6:17Speaker 5: to be. We've got the opportunity to be really good
- 6:19Speaker 5: for the seasons over with.
- 6:20Speaker 4: But you guys, like a lot of 7A programs, play
- 6:23Speaker 4: a very tough non-region schedule. Obviously, you've got the game tonight,
- 6:25Speaker 4: but you've got four more. talk about how that does
- 6:28Speaker 4: prepare you for when you get to what really matters,
- 6:30Speaker 4: which is region.
- 6:31Speaker 2: That's right.
- 6:31Speaker 5: I mean, you want to be prepared for region and
- 6:33Speaker 5: you really, really want to be prepared for playoffs because
- 6:35Speaker 5: you don't know region wise, who's.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Going to be up and down.
- 6:38Speaker 5: And so it, man, it is what it is just
- 6:40Speaker 5: like Brandon, just like us. It's hard to schedule teams.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Some teams sometimes just don't, don't want to play you.
- 6:45Speaker 5: So you have to go play some elites and, and we,
- 6:51Speaker 5: we like a challenge. I think it's fun. Um, Well, also,
- 6:55Speaker 5: I think it's just natural for teenagers. If you play
- 6:58Speaker 5: somebody down, you're going to play down. So you've got
- 7:01Speaker 5: to sharpen iron every week, and you've got to get
- 7:03Speaker 5: tested every week, and that's one of our favorite things
- 7:06Speaker 5: is we can't blink a single game this season, definitely non-division-wise.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Every week you're playing some team that's probably the highest
- 7:14Speaker 5: rank in their division or some state, and so it's fun.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It's a fun journey.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Busy with Ty Harden, head football coach, Tupelo Golden Wave.
- 7:21Speaker 4: They'll host Brandon tonight to kick off set for seven
- 7:23Speaker 4: o'clock here in Tupelo. We were talking about driving in
- 7:27Speaker 4: just always, you know, a really good site here. I mean,
- 7:30Speaker 4: you guys do such a great job of the campus,
- 7:32Speaker 4: the school. It's built like a college. Talk a little
- 7:36Speaker 4: bit about the administration here in the sport that you
- 7:37Speaker 4: have in this in this town.
- 7:39Speaker 5: You know, it's an administration that wants to be great
- 7:42Speaker 5: in everything. You know, two years in a row that
- 7:45Speaker 5: we won the All-Sports Award. You know, that's one thing.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Our athletic director, you know, hangs his hat on. That's
- 7:52Speaker 5: what we're going to be. We want to be great
- 7:53Speaker 5: in everything. We want to be great in the classroom.
- 7:55Speaker 5: We want to be great in our athletics and all
- 7:58Speaker 5: our other activities. We offer probably more sports and more
- 8:01Speaker 5: activities and clubs than any school in the state. And
- 8:06Speaker 5: so there's a lot to do here. And, you know,
- 8:08Speaker 5: they're really about– they want to share the love and
- 8:10Speaker 5: they want everybody to be great. And so it's definitely
- 8:13Speaker 5: a diverse place. You know, I know everybody in the
- 8:17Speaker 5: Metro probably thinks a little bit different of us, but
- 8:19Speaker 5: we love being here. We love living here. And it's
- 8:23Speaker 5: the best school district in the state. Let's finish it
- 8:25Speaker 5: up with this. You were talking off the air for
- 8:27Speaker 5: Mississippi State fans a little bit about J.J. Hill, who
- 8:30Speaker 5: is in that backfield.
- 8:32Speaker 4: You know, without just telling it all, because– there's a
- 8:35Speaker 4: lot of information that of course, you know, Levy and
- 8:37Speaker 4: his staff, they don't give to the media or anything,
- 8:38Speaker 4: but you said he's having a good camp and looks
- 8:40Speaker 4: really good right now.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Well, I think starting off from when he got there, um,
- 8:46Speaker 5: I think the first few weeks, the first week of
- 8:48Speaker 5: workouts are like, you cannot work out with the freshmen anymore.
- 8:50Speaker 5: You got, you gotta get moved up with the upperclassmen.
- 8:53Speaker 5: And so, and it's just trickled on from there. Every
- 8:56Speaker 5: time I hear something or I talk to him or
- 8:59Speaker 5: I talk to a teammate, um, or talk to one
- 9:03Speaker 5: of his coaches, it's like, man, he's getting better and
- 9:04Speaker 5: better and better and better every day. Watched him in
- 9:07Speaker 5: the spring. He had a phenomenal spring. Like I said,
- 9:10Speaker 5: he's down 20, 25 pounds from when he played last year.
- 9:14Speaker 5: And recently from his scrimmages, I mean, he's showing out. And,
- 9:19Speaker 5: you know, I know he's loved by his teammates too.
- 9:22Speaker 5: And so I think it's definitely a really high chance
- 9:25Speaker 5: that you'll see him over there on Scott Field this season,
- 9:29Speaker 5: and we're excited about it over here.
- 9:31Speaker 4: You know him as good as anybody. You helped raise
- 9:33Speaker 4: the young man. What's his best quality as a football player?
- 9:37Speaker 2: I mean, his work ethic.
- 9:40Speaker 5: I mean, he was a guy starting his freshman year
- 9:43Speaker 5: of high school, like he was a guy that was
- 9:45Speaker 5: a 5 a.m. workout guy, going to get up, run,
- 9:49Speaker 5: or work out and do something on his own every day.
- 9:53Speaker 5: You know, he was not going to– he has no
- 9:55Speaker 5: excuses for everything. He likes hard things. He knows what
- 9:59Speaker 5: it takes to be great. but his best trait period
- 10:02Speaker 5: is just how awesome of a human being he is.
- 10:05Speaker 5: I mean, he's just, and I think that's one of
- 10:07Speaker 5: the biggest correlations of anything you do. Like he's, he's just,
- 10:10Speaker 5: if you don't like him, there's something wrong with you.
- 10:13Speaker 5: And he's just one of those type of people.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Tom Harden, he is the head football coach. Tupelo, they
- 10:17Speaker 2: play Brandon Knight. Coach, good luck tonight.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Thank you.

- 12:14Speaker 4: knows the founding fathers were intent on making sure NFL
- 12:17Speaker 4: players could play in the SEC.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Now, this is tongue-in-cheek.
- 12:20Speaker 4: He's having fun with this because there is a statement
- 12:23Speaker 4: here that says, quote, if Sankey shows up, I'd like
- 12:28Speaker 4: to hear his argument, said Tony Clayton, one of the
- 12:30Speaker 4: attorneys representing a group of 42 total athletes. listed in
- 12:34Speaker 4: the case what gives him the right to anoint himself
- 12:37Speaker 4: god and take these constitutional rights from these kids these
- 12:43Speaker 4: attorneys the things that they say pervy green is is
- 12:47Speaker 4: wild i mean we've got now attorneys um calling the
- 12:52Speaker 4: uh sec and big 10 basically cartels and i mean
- 12:56Speaker 4: it's crazy well you.
- 12:57Speaker 6: Know i it's gotten to the point i don't even
- 13:00Speaker 6: know what to make of it um and You know,
- 13:04Speaker 6: you have one case that's successful. The rest of the
- 13:08Speaker 6: attorneys from all corners of the country kind of jump
- 13:11Speaker 6: in because the blueprint has already been made. Find one judge.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 6: You know, it's going to be favorable. Take that case
- 13:18Speaker 6: there and it just opens the floodgates. So 42 is
- 13:21Speaker 6: probably going to grow to 80 at some point, you know,
- 13:24Speaker 6: and it's, you know, and I got to thinking about
- 13:27Speaker 6: this earlier, you know, with a kid, you know, fourth year,
- 13:32Speaker 6: fifth year, You know, he declares for the draft, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 6: signs it, you know, basically he's undrafted, you know, signs
- 13:40Speaker 6: a free agent contract, and he's doing the numbers. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 6: he's like, well, if I go, if I find a,
- 13:46Speaker 6: you know, ACC school, Big Ten school, well, not anymore.
- 13:51Speaker 6: But if I find a school, well, let's just take
- 13:53Speaker 6: it from Big Ten. If I find a collegiate program
- 13:56Speaker 6: that has just a little bit of NIL money in it,
- 13:59Speaker 6: it gives me not only a little bit more money
- 14:01Speaker 6: than I probably would, you know, trying out on this
- 14:04Speaker 6: NFL team, but it also gives me now more tape
- 14:07Speaker 6: for the next draft. Now, of course, the NFL has
- 14:09Speaker 6: kind of stepped in and said, no, we're not going there.
- 14:12Speaker 6: You know, you had the Big Ten and HCC have
- 14:13Speaker 6: stepped in, now we're not going there. But you almost
- 14:16Speaker 6: have to understand the kids' frame of mind and that, look,
- 14:21Speaker 6: with the NIL money that's going around collegiate sports now,
- 14:25Speaker 6: you know, it's worth it for me to make, you know,
- 14:28Speaker 6: take a shot going back to college. Once again, I'm
- 14:31Speaker 6: going to make a little bit of money there. And
- 14:32Speaker 6: I mean, actually getting more film on tape that may
- 14:35Speaker 6: improve my draft stock next time around. So, but I,
- 14:39Speaker 6: it was, was blowing my mind is that we really
- 14:44Speaker 6: got to a place where a kid, you know, played
- 14:47Speaker 6: his collegiate career. It's done. Thinks he can kind of
- 14:51Speaker 6: dip his toe a little bit in a professional level
- 14:55Speaker 6: and then take his foot out and say, Hey, let
- 14:57Speaker 6: me go back to college. I, It's wild where we
- 15:01Speaker 6: have been, now where we're going.
- 15:03Speaker 4: And, you know, there's the old saying, which is true,
- 15:05Speaker 4: that young people, and we all are, no matter what
- 15:08Speaker 4: age you are, but especially young people are impressionable people. So,
- 15:11Speaker 4: you know, you can really get them going in a
- 15:13Speaker 4: different direction. There's always been or was prior to 2021
- 15:18Speaker 4: when they opened the floodgates on name, image, and likeness
- 15:20Speaker 4: and pay for play of the order. So you went
- 15:23Speaker 4: to high school, you got a college scholarship, or you
- 15:25Speaker 4: walked on, you gray-shirted, all that stuff. If you're good enough,
- 15:27Speaker 4: you're going to get drafted in the NFL. You can't
- 15:30Speaker 4: sign with an agent. If you sign with an agent,
- 15:31Speaker 4: then you're ineligible.
- 15:32Speaker 2: For the next year. There were rules in place.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Now what these young guys are seeing, when I say
- 15:39Speaker 4: they're impressionable, they have a father or a mother or
- 15:42Speaker 4: an uncle or a friend, or they have an agent.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Now who says, wait a minute, you're owed this.
- 15:48Speaker 4: It's against your constitutional rights. And they don't probably even know.
- 15:52Speaker 4: This doesn't mean they're dumb. They don't know what that means.
- 15:55Speaker 4: And these attorneys aren't going to turn down billable hours.
- 15:58Speaker 6: Can you imagine? these agents and some of these people
- 16:02Speaker 6: that descend upon these 707 tournaments, these camps, you know,
- 16:07Speaker 6: and they're sitting there and they're waiting. And look, the
- 16:09Speaker 6: kid probably can't go anywhere in those camps without that
- 16:12Speaker 6: guy in his face saying, hey, look, you know, you're
- 16:15Speaker 6: more than likely you're a five-star. Hey, let's get you
- 16:18Speaker 6: going now. You know, let me sign on with you.
- 16:22Speaker 6: And he's lining up those deals before this kid even
- 16:24Speaker 6: plays a down and clutch football. So it is a
- 16:27Speaker 6: weird place that we've gotten to. My biggest concern is
- 16:31Speaker 6: how this now begins to, again, filter down to the
- 16:34Speaker 6: high school level. We've seen it happen in Georgia. We've
- 16:37Speaker 6: seen it happen in Alabama where some of these kids
- 16:41Speaker 6: have got these, I'm using air quotes, NIL deals while
- 16:46Speaker 6: they're playing high school football. And the way they're transferring,
- 16:52Speaker 6: and I think what's going to have to happen, we're
- 16:54Speaker 6: starting to see it in Mississippi a little bit, but
- 16:55Speaker 6: I think all of our high school athletic associations really
- 17:00Speaker 6: need to tighten up their transfer rules because we're seeing kids,
- 17:03Speaker 6: not only we're seeing, you know, guys play four and
- 17:05Speaker 6: five schools in their collegiate career, we're seeing high school
- 17:08Speaker 6: kids play at three different high schools in their high
- 17:12Speaker 6: school career, and that's just mind-boggling.
- 17:14Speaker 4: No, you are, especially in the, you know, let's just
- 17:17Speaker 4: say if you take the ESPN Top 100, and I'm
- 17:19Speaker 4: using that because that is kind of a benchmark, the
- 17:21Speaker 4: ESPN or on three Top 100. You're seeing especially those
- 17:24Speaker 4: Top 50 guys. I saw a story, and I can't
- 17:27Speaker 4: remember who the kid was. It was some young man
- 17:28Speaker 4: who was in Texas, and now he's going to finish
- 17:31Speaker 4: his high school career in Georgia or somewhere.
- 17:33Speaker 6: Yeah. God, a name escapes.
- 17:36Speaker 2: But, yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 6: And I'm talking about transferred, like, during the summer out
- 17:41Speaker 6: of the blue. And he was fine in Texas, but
- 17:44Speaker 6: for whatever reason, he up and transferred to Georgia. Yeah, but, again,
- 17:48Speaker 6: we've got– I can't remember the kid's name, but the
- 17:50Speaker 6: story about the kid in Alabama that was at one school,
- 17:54Speaker 6: transferred to another school in Alabama. It's because he– Again,
- 17:59Speaker 6: there's that deal. Got kind of a deal to play
- 18:02Speaker 6: for another high school in Alabama, and it's kind of like,
- 18:04Speaker 6: come on. Again, for older guys like us, it's just
- 18:09Speaker 6: weird to watch this happen because the formal rules have
- 18:13Speaker 6: been in place for decades. A school signs you. Depending
- 18:19Speaker 6: on if you had the grades or not, you had
- 18:21Speaker 6: to rest short a year. But if you rest short
- 18:23Speaker 6: a year, you still had five years to play four
- 18:25Speaker 6: years of eligibility. And by the way, I've already contacted
- 18:28Speaker 6: my attorney because I want my fifth year on the
- 18:31Speaker 6: Mississippi State kickoff team. So we're working on it for
- 18:34Speaker 6: me to get another fifth year. But, you know, I
- 18:38Speaker 6: think this hard and, you know, as I said, at
- 18:42Speaker 6: this point it's hard to put the genie back in
- 18:44Speaker 6: a bottle. My biggest concern now is how does this
- 18:47Speaker 6: impact high.
- 18:48Speaker 2: School athletics now?
- 18:50Speaker 6: Because hopefully we're at a place where we can save
- 18:52Speaker 6: high school athletics now. If any of our high school
- 18:55Speaker 6: athletes are out there, and I'm not trying to take
- 18:58Speaker 6: the money out of your pocket, but what I am
- 19:00Speaker 6: saying is let's kind of make sure we've got some
- 19:03Speaker 6: sensible and reasonable rules in place, you know, as we
- 19:07Speaker 6: still have at least an amateur athletic level on a
- 19:11Speaker 6: high school level. Amateurism in college athletics is gone. It's
- 19:16Speaker 6: gone and it ain't coming back. So maybe there's some
- 19:20Speaker 6: way we can preserve, you know, amateurism at the high
- 19:23Speaker 6: school level.
- 19:24Speaker 2: No, I agree.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I mean, just like this statement right here, what gives
- 19:30Speaker 4: the right to anoint himself God, talking about Greg Sankey,
- 19:33Speaker 4: and take these constitutional rights from kids?
- 19:35Speaker 2: Well, one, he is not God.
- 19:37Speaker 4: I don't think he's trying to play God, but he
- 19:39Speaker 4: is the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference.
- 19:41Speaker 2: He runs the conference.
- 19:42Speaker 4: It's just like if there was some sort of an anarchy,
- 19:45Speaker 4: and this is somewhat of an anarchist type movement here,
- 19:48Speaker 4: believe it or not, it would be like the NFL
- 19:50Speaker 4: players and the NFLPA say, well, Roger Goodell, like him
- 19:54Speaker 4: or not, and I know he's not the most popular guy,
- 19:56Speaker 4: what gives him the right?
- 19:56Speaker 2: Well, he's the boss.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Like there is a chain of command. And if the
- 20:00Speaker 4: SEC says, no, we're not doing this, then that's the
- 20:04Speaker 4: SEC bylaws.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Well, and let me play devil's advocate. Can you imagine
- 20:08Speaker 6: if Sankey had the actually alternate mindset? If he was
- 20:12Speaker 6: all in for these guys returning back to college, this
- 20:17Speaker 6: is nothing. We would have– it would be a total–
- 20:20Speaker 6: the SEC is already, you know, the devil by everybody's
- 20:23Speaker 6: accounts across the country. This would be even turning on
- 20:26Speaker 6: its ear if Sankey was all in with, hey, if
- 20:30Speaker 6: the court allowed these guys to come back, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 6: our LSU is out of– hey, that may benefit our
- 20:35Speaker 6: Mississippi State.
- 20:36Speaker 8: Right.
- 20:37Speaker 6: If our lower-tier collegiate football programs, you know, basketball, if
- 20:43Speaker 6: they had a situation where some kids were good enough,
- 20:47Speaker 6: you know, to get tagged by a professional team, didn't
- 20:51Speaker 6: make it, and they were able to come back, you know.
- 20:54Speaker 6: So I think he recognizes where we should be. I
- 20:59Speaker 6: think the Big Ten commissioner recognizes where we should be.
- 21:01Speaker 6: And I think other conferences– possibly are going to recognize
- 21:05Speaker 6: where we should be with this. But you might have
- 21:08Speaker 6: one conference commissioner that says, wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 21:12Speaker 6: This may actually make our teams better. And I'm waiting
- 21:14Speaker 6: to see which commissioner actually is bold enough to actually
- 21:18Speaker 6: develop that mindset. Well, hey, this might actually work out
- 21:21Speaker 6: for not only our top tier teams, but our lower
- 21:24Speaker 6: tier teams as well.
- 21:25Speaker 4: We're brought to you by our friends at Mississippi Blood Services. Hey,
- 21:28Speaker 4: a lot going on at Mississippi Blood Services. There's a
- 21:30Speaker 4: chance for you to win gift cards, also be enrolled
- 21:31Speaker 4: in other services. Mississippi Blood Services on Facebook. You can
- 21:35Speaker 4: find them there and Instagram. Check them out on their website, msblood.com, 601-368-2673.
- 21:39Speaker 4: That's our good friends at Mississippi Blood Services. When we
- 21:43Speaker 4: come back, Keith Hardy will join us from Ameristar.
- 21:45Speaker 3: And action.
- 21:46Speaker 2: We got that and a whole lot more around here.
- 21:49Speaker 7: It's the Afternoon Drive with Jake Wimberly.
- 21:51Speaker 1: What's the score? He's got that along with the hottest
- 21:53Speaker 1: sports stories of the day on ESPN 105.9 The Zone
- 21:55Speaker 1: and online at thezone1059. com.
- 22:24Speaker 2: We're brought to you by our friends at Ameristar.
- 22:25Speaker 1: See you.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Get out and play. All the great restaurants. Four of
- 22:29Speaker 2: them are open this weekend.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Bella's, the Heritage Restaurant, Bourbon's on the Roof, the Steakhouse,
- 22:33Speaker 4: and Red Lotus. Also, the Bottleneck Blues Bar, and don't
- 22:36Speaker 4: forget about the Gurkha Cigar Lounge. It is week zero.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Keith Hardy is on your radio. The sportsbook manager at
- 22:42Speaker 4: the Sportsbook at Ameristar. Keith, happy football Friday, sir.
- 22:45Speaker 1: How are you?
- 22:45Speaker 8: Jake, are you ready for some football?
- 22:50Speaker 2: Oh, I think we're ready, Keith. I mean, we better
- 22:52Speaker 2: be ready. It's here, right? I mean, we saw.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Six upsets last night, you know, in the FCS side
- 22:59Speaker 4: of things. We got week zero. We got the final
- 23:01Speaker 4: week of the NFL preseason, high school football, which you
- 23:04Speaker 4: can't play that, obviously, at your casino.
- 23:05Speaker 2: But, I mean, Keith, it's here. We're ready to go.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Yeah, any upsets tomorrow, Jake?
- 23:12Speaker 3: You know, I know how you feel about TCU, so
- 23:14Speaker 3: I know you're not calling the Tar Heels.
- 23:16Speaker 1: How about the Rainbow Warriors? How about the Bulls?
- 23:21Speaker 4: You know, and I'm pulling up the bet builder just
- 23:23Speaker 4: to kind of make sure that I'm on the same
- 23:25Speaker 4: page here and get these updated lines here. But, yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 4: the Rainbow Warriors are one. And I'm going to tell
- 23:31Speaker 4: you what, I think NC State, I know they're a
- 23:33Speaker 4: slight underdog on the road to Virginia. I think NC
- 23:36Speaker 4: State may be, you know, a better football team than
- 23:39Speaker 4: last year. And, you know, Virginia, I mean, we'll see
- 23:41Speaker 4: if they've got stay in power. They typically do not
- 23:44Speaker 4: have stay in power. But I like NC State at,
- 23:47Speaker 4: you know, getting four points. And you referenced Hawaii. They're
- 23:50Speaker 4: a four-and-a-half-point underdog on the road at Stanford. I like
- 23:53Speaker 4: both the dogs in those matchups.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yeah, me too, Jake.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I got four plays for tomorrow, NC State and Hawaii,
- 24:03Speaker 3: and I'm laying the points with Florida State and USC.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Your team might put up 50.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's interesting because two teams with two
- 24:13Speaker 4: football coaches, you got Florida State, who's favored by 32,
- 24:17Speaker 4: against New Mexico State.
- 24:18Speaker 2: That's a six-o'clock kick.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Tomorrow night, and you've also got USC, their clock kick
- 24:24Speaker 4: against San Jose State, minus 39, so they're a 39-point favorite.
- 24:27Speaker 4: You've got two coaches in Lincoln Riley at USC and
- 24:31Speaker 4: Mike Norvell at Florida State. They both are on the
- 24:34Speaker 4: hot seat. Now, the Norvell hot seat is much hotter
- 24:36Speaker 4: than the Riley hot seat, but they both are two
- 24:38Speaker 4: coaches that have to prove they belong. I mean, I
- 24:41Speaker 4: don't see either coach taking their foot off the gas tomorrow.
- 24:44Speaker 1: I'm weighing the points.
- 24:47Speaker 3: I know it's a lot, 39 and 32, but, yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 3: I got two favorites, two big favorites, and two small dogs. And, look,
- 24:54Speaker 3: I might even sprinkle a little something on the money
- 24:56Speaker 3: line saying that the bows went out right. But, yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 3: those are my four favorite plays for tomorrow. And I
- 25:05Speaker 3: got to tell you, Jason, in that first game in Ireland,
- 25:08Speaker 3: I'm liking the.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Under in that game. I'm not going to pick a side.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I know I remember you saying you've been on TCU.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But I'm liking the under in that one.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Any thoughts on the over-under?
- 25:22Speaker 2: 46-and-a-half.
- 25:24Speaker 4: The Sharks think, obviously, it's going to be a lower-scoring ballgame,
- 25:27Speaker 4: and it very well could. I mean, it could be
- 25:29Speaker 4: a situation where TCU wins this football game, you know,
- 25:32Speaker 4: somewhere around 32-14. You know, that would put you right
- 25:35Speaker 4: around the 46 mark.
- 25:37Speaker 2: So, yeah, I mean, I can see that game going under.
- 25:41Speaker 8: And Jake, we've got preseason going on today. You'd be
- 25:46Speaker 8: surprised how much action we get on the preseason. It's
- 25:50Speaker 8: tons and tons of action. You can't move the point
- 25:54Speaker 8: spreads around.
- 25:55Speaker 3: There's no prop bets, but we're still getting lots of action.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Getting a lot of action on Major League Baseball as well.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Major League Baseball is getting real tight with some playoff
- 26:05Speaker 3: races going on.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Of course, the WNBA and is in full effect right now.
- 26:11Speaker 8: We're getting action on that.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You wouldn't believe the player props we get on that too, Jake.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Keith Hardy, the sportsbook manager at Ameristar Casino. Get out
- 26:20Speaker 4: and play at Ameristar with Keith and his crew at
- 26:23Speaker 4: the sportsbook at Ameristar.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Keith, you got all that to play.
- 26:26Speaker 4: And look, you might as well go ahead and if
- 26:27Speaker 4: you feel comfortable about some of these games coming up
- 26:29Speaker 4: next week, I mean, you've got September 3rd games out there,
- 26:33Speaker 4: which is going to be next Thursday.
- 26:35Speaker 2: There is a lot of Thursday action. You know, there's
- 26:38Speaker 2: September 4th.
- 26:38Speaker 4: There's some Friday action like Indiana State at Purdue, Toledo
- 26:42Speaker 4: at Michigan State, UTEP at Oklahoma, Miami, Stanford. So if
- 26:47Speaker 4: you feel good about some of these, you might want
- 26:49Speaker 4: to get on them now before these lines move a
- 26:50Speaker 4: little bit.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Speaking of getting bets in early, your futures, I just.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Had a guy come in.
- 26:59Speaker 8: He said he heard us on the radio.
- 27:01Speaker 1: He heard me on the radio.
- 27:02Speaker 3: He just came in, made some future bets. So don't
- 27:06Speaker 3: forget about those. You want to let your listeners know,
- 27:09Speaker 3: you know, those lines will move. So you want to
- 27:12Speaker 3: get a good price.
- 27:13Speaker 1: You want to get it locked in. You got to
- 27:15Speaker 1: get it early. Yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 2: And, you know, I'm just sitting here looking at some
- 27:19Speaker 2: of these matchups. Of course, we'll visit next Friday.
- 27:21Speaker 4: But if you're talking about, you know, Thursday and Friday,
- 27:24Speaker 4: I mean, that's going to be the third and the fourth.
- 27:26Speaker 4: You know, there's some interesting games out there. You know,
- 27:29Speaker 4: I mean, both Oklahoma's in action next Friday. They're taking
- 27:33Speaker 4: on UTEP. You know, they're a big favorite. Again, Purdue
- 27:37Speaker 4: against Indiana State. I don't know that the general public
- 27:41Speaker 4: is going to be in on that, but then you
- 27:42Speaker 4: also have Georgia Tech and Colorado next Thursday, and we
- 27:47Speaker 4: won't visit until next Friday. So Colorado is a six-and-a-half-point
- 27:50Speaker 4: dog on the road at Georgia Tech. I really love
- 27:53Speaker 4: the way Georgia Tech has played football the last couple years.
- 27:56Speaker 4: I know they're breaking into different quarterback, but, boy, I
- 27:58Speaker 4: tell you what, I really like Georgia Tech and giving
- 28:00Speaker 4: up the points there.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and speaking of Thursdays, Don't forget Rutgers.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Rutgers playing UMass.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I mean, that's must-see TV right there, Jake.
- 28:13Speaker 8: Rutgers-UMass, are you kidding me?
- 28:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, look, UMass almost annually, or at least
- 28:19Speaker 4: for the last 10 years, has been the worst team
- 28:21Speaker 4: in Division I. Rutgers is a 30-and-a-half-point favorite. I mean,
- 28:24Speaker 4: I would feel comfortable taking Rutgers in the points there.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I can't believe that I'm saying this, Jake. I'm laying
- 28:29Speaker 1: 30 points with Rutgers. Oh, listen, there's another game. There's
- 28:33Speaker 1: another dog. tomorrow that I can't believe I forgot. It's
- 28:38Speaker 1: the late game. Memphis at UNLV. Tell me, does Memphis
- 28:42Speaker 1: have a shot going out there and getting the win?
- 28:45Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely.
- 28:46Speaker 4: I mean, look, they've got a really good football coach
- 28:48Speaker 4: in Charles Huff who, you know, the one-year turnaround at
- 28:51Speaker 4: Southern Miss.
- 28:51Speaker 2: He was at Marshall prior to that.
- 28:53Speaker 4: He's a Nick Saban guy taking on Dan Mullen out
- 28:56Speaker 4: there in Vegas.
- 28:57Speaker 2: And, you know, Charles Huff and Dan Mullen are two guys.
- 29:00Speaker 4: That If they have the right season, both will be
- 29:03Speaker 4: courted for, you know, power four type jobs. So, yeah,
- 29:06Speaker 4: I think Memphis has a shot here. I may would
- 29:09Speaker 4: play the under at 56 and a half versus taking,
- 29:12Speaker 4: you know, one team or the other. But I think
- 29:14Speaker 4: that's going to be, you know, if you've got the
- 29:17Speaker 4: gumption to stay up late and watch some West Coast football,
- 29:19Speaker 4: that's going to be a good one.
- 29:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a 9 o'clock start. If I score
- 29:26Speaker 3: on my early play, then I'm going to have to
- 29:28Speaker 3: go and put a.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Little something on Memphis.
- 29:32Speaker 4: Keith, before we let you go, tell everybody to come
- 29:33Speaker 4: see you. I know you've got a busy, busy weekend.
- 29:35Speaker 4: We want people to get out and get their football
- 29:37Speaker 4: picks in.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Well, Jake, you know, it's not just sports betting. It's
- 29:40Speaker 1: sports betting at Ameristar. There's blackjack and baccarat, craps and roulette.
- 29:45Speaker 1: All your favorite slot machines.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Video poker, live poker right here next to the sportsbook.
- 29:51Speaker 8: When you come down, Jake, we've got a 36-foot video.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Wall with 40 TVs all around.
- 29:57Speaker 3: If it's something you're looking for and you don't have
- 29:59Speaker 3: it on, you let us know.
- 30:00Speaker 1: If it's on DirecTV, we'll put it on TV for
- 30:02Speaker 1: you somewhere. You know, the U.S. Open tennis is going on, right?
- 30:06Speaker 1: We've got NASCAR going on. Yeah, we'll have all the
- 30:09Speaker 1: football games on, but if there's something.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Else you want to watch, a WNBA game or something
- 30:14Speaker 3: like that, we can find a screen for you. And
- 30:16Speaker 3: then when you come down, Jake, you come up to
- 30:19Speaker 3: me and you say, I heard you on the radio.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I walk you into the Gurkha Lounge, let you pick
- 30:25Speaker 3: out a stogie, and get you an adult bevy on me.
- 30:29Speaker 1: What do you say to that, Jake?
- 30:31Speaker 4: Keith, that's a fabulous football gift from you and Ameristar,
- 30:34Speaker 4: and we appreciate you doing that each and every week.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Keith, have a great weekend. We'll talk next week. It'll
- 30:37Speaker 2: be week one.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Jake, thanks for having me on. Jake, take care.
- 30:42Speaker 4: We're brought to you by Ameristar Casino. Get the bet builder.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Go to AmeristarCasino.com forward slash Vicksburg. One more segment to
- 30:47Speaker 4: go on a Friday.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Back in a moment. With Jake Wimberly on the afternoon drive.
- 30:51Speaker 9: One of the last pure pleasures I have left in
- 30:54Speaker 9: my life.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe you ought to get a life first, okay?
- 30:57Speaker 1: On ESPN 105.9 The Zone and online at TheZone1059.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Com.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Final segment as we take you into the weekend, into
- 31:21Speaker 4: your high school football games and college football games. Brought
- 31:24Speaker 4: to you by BCI. That's Business Communications Incorporated. Go to bcipeople.com.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Find them on Facebook and LinkedIn. Appreciate Keith Hardy jumping in.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Chris Siebel here with us for the last segment here.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Talk a little high school football.
- 31:35Speaker 2: All right, Chris, or as you said, you want to
- 31:38Speaker 2: be called Topher. Topher, that's it. Beaver, can you believe
- 31:40Speaker 2: Chris wants to be called Topher?
- 31:41Speaker 1: No.
- 31:42Speaker 9: So let me tell you a little back story about that.
- 31:44Speaker 9: So I have really good friends of mine, Josh Furby.
- 31:47Speaker 2: And his wife.
- 31:47Speaker 9: And, you know, I introduced them a long time ago.
- 31:50Speaker 9: And they, of course, married now and had their first child.
- 31:53Speaker 9: And I begged them, begged them to name the child Christopher.
- 31:56Speaker 9: And they wouldn't do it. And I said, we can
- 31:57Speaker 9: call him Topher. And so that's how that started. So
- 32:00Speaker 9: since then, I've been obsessed with the name Topher. But
- 32:02Speaker 9: my wife gives me a hard time. They give me
- 32:04Speaker 9: a hard time. They're like, you can just be Uncle Topher.
- 32:05Speaker 9: So now I'm Uncle Topher. Beaver, any thoughts on this?
- 32:08Speaker 10: That's a terrible idea. Evil hair. Even Chris Brooks, okay?
- 32:13Speaker 10: Chris Brooks is a total weirdo. And he was in
- 32:16Speaker 10: here a couple weeks ago, and even this man, he's like, no.
- 32:20Speaker 10: Because this came up somehow, Jake. Why did we get
- 32:23Speaker 10: on this two weeks ago?
- 32:24Speaker 2: It's my fault.
- 32:24Speaker 9: I'm the one that texted Jake and told him. I
- 32:26Speaker 9: was like, ask him if he likes to be called
- 32:28Speaker 9: Christopher or Chris.
- 32:30Speaker 10: Okay. So if even Chris Brooks is against it, then
- 32:34Speaker 10: you know because he's a total weirdo.
- 32:37Speaker 9: But everybody is short for Chris. Chris is short for Christopher.
- 32:41Speaker 9: So why don't we do Topher for short for Christopher?
- 32:44Speaker 10: That actor, Topher Grace, is the only human I know
- 32:47Speaker 10: that goes by that. And you don't want to be
- 32:49Speaker 10: like that, man.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 32:51Speaker 1: That's true.
- 32:52Speaker 4: I'm going to stick to my guns. Do you have
- 32:54Speaker 4: anything over there we need to get to? Or do
- 32:55Speaker 4: you have any comments on anything?
- 32:56Speaker 2: Yeah, let me.
- 32:57Speaker 10: We got some texts here. And I got to get
- 32:59Speaker 10: to JC because he texted this. And then a little
- 33:03Speaker 10: bit of time passed. And then he texted again and said,
- 33:07Speaker 10: let Jake know I texted because I'm getting out of
- 33:10Speaker 10: the car.
- 33:11Speaker 2: He says, Jake.
- 33:14Speaker 10: Matt Wyatt said earlier that you had some picks for
- 33:16Speaker 10: this weekend. He called them winners, but we all know otherwise.
- 33:21Speaker 10: They are breakeven at best. If you indeed have some,
- 33:25Speaker 10: you need to post them for transparency and accountability. And
- 33:31Speaker 10: since you're so confident in them, would you endorse Beaver
- 33:35Speaker 10: putting his 401k on them? Side note, I'm picking Brandon
- 33:40Speaker 10: tonight to do what they do best.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Finish second. I knew that was coming. Oh, JC. Is
- 33:46Speaker 2: he a Pearl Pirate?
- 33:49Speaker 1: You know what?
- 33:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 33:51Speaker 10: He's not a pirate.
- 33:52Speaker 2: I don't know where he's from. He's probably North Brandon.
- 33:54Speaker 2: He's probably North Brandon. Could be. So, Beaver, are we
- 33:57Speaker 2: putting your 401k on TCU tomorrow?
- 34:00Speaker 9: No.
- 34:01Speaker 10: You know, I was telling Keith about this. Jake, I
- 34:03Speaker 10: know that you're huge on this one, but you know
- 34:06Speaker 10: how I feel about things that are way too obvious?
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 10: This is one of them, because with all the trouble
- 34:11Speaker 10: at North Carolina... Everybody in the world expects them to
- 34:15Speaker 10: get destroyed, so it just seems way too obvious to me.
- 34:19Speaker 10: So I'm staying away from it.
- 34:21Speaker 2: That's fair. That's fair. What else you got over there?
- 34:25Speaker 10: Pearl Girl says, I guess Topher would go along with
- 34:30Speaker 10: that horrible mustache.
- 34:34Speaker 9: The mustache is gone, but she wouldn't know that because
- 34:36Speaker 9: she doesn't come around anymore.
- 34:38Speaker 2: How about that? Yes, I know who Pearl Girl is.
- 34:43Speaker 10: I tell you, the Pearl Girl is not someone you
- 34:45Speaker 10: really want coming around. The girl kicked me in the
- 34:51Speaker 10: shin one time. That was eight years ago, and it
- 34:54Speaker 10: still stuck with me.
- 34:55Speaker 2: You're still walking with a limp. Yeah.
- 34:58Speaker 1: That is awesome.
- 34:59Speaker 9: No, but the mustache is gone. I shaved it off,
- 35:02Speaker 9: I don't know, a month ago, two months ago.
- 35:04Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 35:04Speaker 2: It's gone. I'm going to grow it back, though.
- 35:07Speaker 10: Oh, Miko just says, I'm a pirate.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Go wave. He's not holding back. He's saying, go wave.
- 35:15Speaker 10: Andre is not afraid of the curse here of way
- 35:20Speaker 10: too obvious. He says, no, wait. Oh, I read that backwards.
- 35:26Speaker 10: He says UNC all over TCU.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Really?
- 35:28Speaker 2: All over, he says. That means like just the old quote,
- 35:36Speaker 2: old-fashioned boat race.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 2: How about that?
- 35:38Speaker 1: Man.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Let's see. Pearl Girl is back. Says, okay.
- 35:49Speaker 10: She said, first she's going to kick me in the
- 35:51Speaker 10: other shin, she says. And then she says, and now,
- 35:53Speaker 10: e-bell hair, now that mustache is gone, I might come around.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Well, see? That's all it took. I think that's all
- 36:01Speaker 2: it took.
- 36:01Speaker 1: That's it.
- 36:02Speaker 10: And that'll catch us up on the text.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Very good.
- 36:04Speaker 1: All right.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Hey, baby, have you seen this Tupelo field, by the way? No,
- 36:07Speaker 2: I haven't. I'll send you a picture of it. It
- 36:09Speaker 2: is very unique. You know, it's blue.
- 36:13Speaker 4: And as Coach Harden told us earlier, he was on
- 36:15Speaker 4: with us, Ty Harden, the head football coach at Tupelo.
- 36:17Speaker 4: It's three years old. They redid it. It's segmented blue.
- 36:21Speaker 4: So Chris takes it. I mean, it's like a light
- 36:24Speaker 4: blue and a dark blue. It's kind of weird on
- 36:27Speaker 4: your eyes.
- 36:27Speaker 9: Well, they do it with the green. I think Madison
- 36:30Speaker 9: Central is the same way but with green. So they
- 36:32Speaker 9: segment a different color green. This is with blue. So,
- 36:36Speaker 9: I mean, you can see that from a mile away
- 36:38Speaker 9: when you pull in. I mean, it's just bright, bright, bright, bright.
- 36:40Speaker 9: And I don't know if you remember this, Jake.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I know it's a little off topic.
- 36:43Speaker 9: But do you remember Boise State a few years ago?
- 36:45Speaker 9: You know how they had the blue turf up there?
- 36:47Speaker 9: Did they have to cover it in the winter? Because
- 36:48Speaker 9: the birds think it's water and they nosedive straight down
- 36:51Speaker 9: and they kill themselves.
- 36:52Speaker 2: I did see something on that several years ago. Why
- 36:55Speaker 2: don't they have to do that here? Migrating south. I mean,
- 36:57Speaker 2: this might be as far south as they're migrating. Yeah,
- 37:00Speaker 2: but I don't think they're going to. I mean, typically
- 37:02Speaker 2: it's Canadian geese. Yeah. I don't think they're. And, you know,
- 37:06Speaker 2: they'll just circle in and land.
- 37:07Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 37:08Speaker 2: So I don't see them nosediving.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Into the blue turf of Tupelo. All right.
- 37:12Speaker 4: So we've got Brandon Tupelo tonight. What do you think
- 37:13Speaker 4: about this matchup? You're unbiased. I'm very unbiased in this.
- 37:18Speaker 9: Of course, Tupelo, a tough task to start the season off,
- 37:22Speaker 9: but I do believe this is a much improved Brandon team.
- 37:26Speaker 9: I think the key to this is going to be
- 37:28Speaker 9: offensive line, of course. Tupelo is going to be very,
- 37:32Speaker 9: very good defensively. If that offensive line gives this offense
- 37:36Speaker 9: time to generate that offense, I think it's going to
- 37:40Speaker 9: be a tight game. I think they'll be in it
- 37:42Speaker 9: in the fourth quarter. Do they have enough to top Tupelo?
- 37:45Speaker 9: I don't know, but I do believe it will be
- 37:47Speaker 9: a four-quarter game. Yeah, the Dawgs are going to have
- 37:50Speaker 9: to do something a little differently.
- 37:51Speaker 4: The last two outings against Tupelo, you know, you've tried
- 37:54Speaker 4: to go straight up man-on-man, and Tupelo's too good on
- 37:57Speaker 4: the interior. They've got three linebackers all that are going
- 37:59Speaker 4: to play Division I football. Very, very good on the
- 38:03Speaker 4: defensive side. So watching a little bit of the South
- 38:05Speaker 4: Panola game last week, South Panola got a move in
- 38:08Speaker 4: side-to-side and had some success in the passing game. Brandon
- 38:11Speaker 4: will have to do something similar, and then they've got
- 38:13Speaker 4: to slow down that run game. You've got Starkville and
- 38:14Speaker 4: Oak Grove going on down in the Pine Belt as
- 38:17Speaker 4: you've got two really good quarterbacks. You've got Kellen Hall
- 38:20Speaker 4: down at Oak Grove who will play Division I. I
- 38:22Speaker 4: think he's headed to Tulane. Conversely, his counterpart, I believe,
- 38:26Speaker 4: is headed to Tulane as well, the starting quarterback, Kingston
- 38:29Speaker 4: Johnson at Starkville. This was a shootout last year between
- 38:32Speaker 4: these two.
- 38:33Speaker 9: Absolutely, and I was up at Starkville last year, down
- 38:35Speaker 9: at Oak Grove this year. I think that's going to
- 38:37Speaker 9: be a game with a lot of uncertainty with Starkville,
- 38:40Speaker 9: new coach. and what they can do. Starville's always a
- 38:43Speaker 9: good football team. Of course, Oak Grove will always be
- 38:46Speaker 9: Oak Grove. They've got a really good program down there.
- 38:48Speaker 9: So I expect a shootout again in that one. You know,
- 38:52Speaker 9: I think it's whoever wants to– who comes out and
- 38:56Speaker 9: who has the ball last with that one. So that
- 38:58Speaker 9: should be a good game. Another one I'm interested in,
- 39:00Speaker 9: and I hope I didn't steal your thunder, is that
- 39:02Speaker 9: Gulfport-Picayune game.
- 39:04Speaker 2: It's tonight down in– I think that game's at Gulfport.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah, no Thunder to steal. Yeah, that's going to be
- 39:09Speaker 2: a good one. Gulfport, Picayune.
- 39:11Speaker 4: You've also got not too far from here, back down
- 39:14Speaker 4: south of 45, Louisville taking on West Point. That's always
- 39:18Speaker 4: an annual big one. You've got Petal taking on Hattiesburg
- 39:21Speaker 4: down in the Pine Belt. West Jones at Laurel. You've
- 39:24Speaker 4: also got Knoxville County, Heidelberg. That's a 2A, 3A matchup.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Clarksdale versus Cleveland Central. Another good one, you know, 4A, 5A.
- 39:32Speaker 4: East Webster, Choctaw County. Hartfield taking on Columbia. You've got
- 39:36Speaker 4: Jackson Academy. They're taking on a team from the state
- 39:39Speaker 4: of Alabama. So there's a lot of great matchups tonight.
- 39:42Speaker 9: And what a way to start off the the full
- 39:44Speaker 9: first season. I mean, you know, you always look at college.
- 39:46Speaker 9: You don't always have a lot of good matchups to start,
- 39:49Speaker 9: but this high school first week, I mean, this non-district
- 39:51Speaker 9: play for all these teams, man, there's a load of games. Those, uh,
- 39:56Speaker 9: those shows, Colin shows on the way home should be interesting.
- 39:59Speaker 9: I mean, like I said, last, last night had some,
- 40:01Speaker 9: some upsets. I guess you could say Meridian ocean Springs.
- 40:04Speaker 9: We talked about earlier, uh, the mass central Pearl. I mean,
- 40:07Speaker 9: a couple of other games, um, you know, uh, We're
- 40:11Speaker 9: off and running. It got here quick, and it should
- 40:14Speaker 9: be fun for the next, what, 14, 15 weeks? It
- 40:17Speaker 9: should be, and as I tell you, every year, slow
- 40:20Speaker 9: it down. It's the old Ferris Bueller. Hey, don't, I mean,
- 40:23Speaker 9: slow it down. If you blink, you could miss it
- 40:25Speaker 9: because we'll be talking here now, and we'll be in
- 40:28Speaker 9: Christmas before you know it.
- 40:29Speaker 2: And I'll still be in shorts. Yeah, you'll still be
- 40:31Speaker 2: in shorts. B, do you have any parting words for
- 40:33Speaker 2: E-Bell Hare?
- 40:37Speaker 10: Rethink this Topher thing. Grow back that mustache. I'm going
- 40:45Speaker 10: to come see you. Save a spot for me at
- 40:47Speaker 10: Brandon this year.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Save me pickles. Are you sure?
- 40:51Speaker 4: He actually can do that because after tonight, he's probably
- 40:54Speaker 4: just going to manage from a distance everything that.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Goes on in the building. That's what I'm talking about.
- 40:59Speaker 2: So we can get him.
- 41:00Speaker 4: We'll make sure to take off at 5 o'clock like
- 41:02Speaker 4: this so he can get out, and we'll save him
- 41:04Speaker 4: a batch of pickles.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 41:05Speaker 9: Okay, Madison Central next week. Or I tell you what,
- 41:09Speaker 9: this is probably your better one. West Monroe in three weeks.
- 41:13Speaker 9: West Monroe comes to town to play Brandon. That will
- 41:15Speaker 9: be a game. I think you should come to the
- 41:17Speaker 9: West Monroe game. Pickles galore. Pickles galore. We appreciate Ty
- 41:20Speaker 9: Harden jumping in. Also Keith Hardy and Heath Hinton. Remember,
- 41:22Speaker 9: ketchup is king, bacon.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Is a delicacy.
- 41:24Speaker 4: Aloha means goodbye. Be a man of increase. We have
- 41:26Speaker 4: reached the crescendo. Be careful going out to your high
- 41:28Speaker 4: school games. Have a great weekend. Enjoy it. Lord willing,
- 41:32Speaker 4: and the creek don't rise. We'll see you on Monday.
- 41:33Speaker 2: God bless. Good night.
- 41:56Speaker 9: Gold and silver prices are at all-time highs, and that
- 41:59Speaker 9: means your old jewelry could be worth more than ever.
