- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Morning.
- 0:30When's the last time you did an inventory of your language
- 0:34patterns? Now, I know this sounds like a
- 0:36strange exercise, but I do this regularly for myself, and I
- 0:40start looking at what I repeatedly say to myself.
- 0:44So a pattern is nothing more than something you do over and
- 0:47over again. We recognize it in sewing.
- 0:50We recognize it when we see it on a print, like of a rug or
- 0:53fabrics. But in our minds, it's something
- 0:56that repeats over and over again.
- 0:58So language repeats over and over again.
- 1:03And yesterday late in the day and when I finished coaching, I
- 1:07had time to be able to go out and do some more plantings.
- 1:10Cause I've got lots and lots of flowers that I'm still trying to
- 1:13get in the ground. I, I did a big thing where I
- 1:17planted a ton of stuff and flowers were way ahead of, you
- 1:22know, normally when I would be doing this, I would be buying
- 1:25some flowers, planting them, but I decided to grow everything
- 1:28that I could from seed to push myself.
- 1:30And I have so many cool flowers. I, the ones I was growing, I
- 1:35intended to put in the cut flower garden.
- 1:36And then I said, screw it. I'm putting them out into the
- 1:39main garden where I'm not going to cut them.
- 1:41And in my, my whole like around the pond garden, my rambling
- 1:45garden. And it was a great decision, but
- 1:47it takes a lot more work than just planting them in a straight
- 1:50row. And plus I had to go in there
- 1:52and clean out some of that garden And doing it with
- 1:55chickens is always complicated. So it slows me down.
- 1:58So I'm out there and I'm digging, I'm cleaning, I'm
- 2:02planting and I notice that I'm picking up this pattern in my
- 2:07head of, uh, more, still more to go, still more to go, still more
- 2:11to go. And I caught myself last night
- 2:14saying that, Oh, I still have more to go.
- 2:16And I, because I came around the corner, I thought I had a
- 2:19smaller pile. I thought I was down to about 30
- 2:22plants. And I came around the corner at
- 2:24the front of the garage and I forgot that I'd separated out a
- 2:27bunch there. And lo and behold, I had two
- 2:31trays, another 36 plants, and I went.
- 2:37And I was like so many more to go.
- 2:39And I stopped and I went. What the hell was that?
- 2:44I mean, how fortunate are you that you got to grow all that?
- 2:47So in my head, I start having a conversation with myself where
- 2:50I'm forcing myself to listen. What the hell was that?
- 2:54And I, I, I, I don't know, I I just have more to go.
- 2:57Yeah, of course. Isn't that lucky?
- 2:59Isn't that fortunate? Isn't that what you wanted?
- 3:01Didn't you want to be able to do this?
- 3:03This is what you wanted? A year filled of flowers and
- 3:07doing it yourself and taking the time and not worrying about how
- 3:11many steps you got or anything else on the days when you could
- 3:14do it, it was like, just just do it.
- 3:16Just do it. And I had to stop myself.
- 3:20And I said, wow, that is an unresourceful pattern.
- 3:23So I stopped. I looked and I was like, no, I
- 3:26get to do all of these. I'm so lucky that they all grew.
- 3:30And as soon as I took myself back to I'm so lucky that they
- 3:33all grew, that I was able to make it happen.
- 3:36I interrupted the pattern in a big way.
- 3:39Then I was able to go, OK, now let me be very clear about this.
- 3:44I am blessed that they are all here.
- 3:46And I paused and I looked at them and I all said to them all,
- 3:49I'm so lucky you're here. I'm so lucky you chose to be a
- 3:52part of my garden, to be with my garden friends and my chicken
- 3:56friends and my bird friends and my family and everybody else.
- 3:59So I will get you in the ground and I will do it all over the
- 4:02course of the next couple days and it will be slow and steady
- 4:07wins the race. So I immediately chose to go to
- 4:11that tortoise pattern of slow and steady wins the race, Slow
- 4:14and steady wins the race. And as soon as I did that, I
- 4:17felt better. I took the pressure off myself
- 4:20from thinking I had to just get it done to OK, I have to slow
- 4:25down. I have to slow down.
- 4:27I just have to stop thinking of this as a mission.
- 4:30I have to change that thought process and more importantly
- 4:33than anything, change the language.
- 4:36So, my friends, the lesson of the day is what are those
- 4:39language patterns that are sneaking up on you because they
- 4:41happen to all of us? So do an inventory of it, catch
- 4:45yourself and change it. It matters.
- 4:48All right, everybody, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll see
- 4:50you tomorrow. Bye.
