- 0:00Speaker 1: Fly from Midtown Manhattan. Here comes the Mark Simone Show
- 0:05Speaker 1: on SEVENOA. Well, oh, we got a lot to get
- 0:13Speaker 1: to today, a lot of things happening. We bring you
- 0:15Speaker 1: all the latest on Rob Reiner, on Brown University, on Australia,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and then we'll get to of course Trump, the political stuff.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We'll get to all of that coming up. We'll get
- 0:25Speaker 1: to New York, we'll get to the tourists, we'll get
- 0:28Speaker 1: to Epstein, we'll get to twenty twenty eight, and all
- 0:31Speaker 1: sorts of stuff to talk about. The Rob Reiner well,
- 0:35Speaker 1: you know, it's the whole weekend was strange. It wasn't
- 0:38Speaker 1: much of a big news weekend, and then all of
- 0:39Speaker 1: a sudden you had Australia the terrible shooting. Then you
- 0:43Speaker 1: had Brown University the terrible shooting, and you had these
- 0:47Speaker 1: two things just taking everybody's attention, and then all of
- 0:51Speaker 1: a sudden the Rob Reiner situation. Here's the latest on
- 0:54Speaker 1: Rob Reiner. He lives in Brentwood. This is at a
- 1:00Speaker 1: mile and a half from Ojay's house where Nicole Simpson
- 1:03Speaker 1: was killed and almost stabbed. Wasn't she decapitated? So this
- 1:10Speaker 1: is another stabbing in Brentwood in the same neighborhood. Now,
- 1:16Speaker 1: Rob Reiner has a big, huge house in Brentwood, but
- 1:19Speaker 1: it's sort of a compound, and on the grounds is
- 1:22Speaker 1: another couple buildings. One is a guest house. And Rob
- 1:26Speaker 1: Reiner had three kids with the wife Michelle. But remember
- 1:31Speaker 1: he had previously been married to Penny Marshall, and he
- 1:35Speaker 1: had another child. He had a daughter with Penny Marshall,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and that daughter lived in the guest house. And the
- 1:44Speaker 1: police are not revealing much of anything right now, they're
- 1:46Speaker 1: keeping very quiet. Later today they'll have a press conference
- 1:50Speaker 1: and maybe explain some of this. But here's what I've heard, again,
- 1:55Speaker 1: not confirmed, but the daughters in the guest house. This
- 1:58Speaker 1: is yesterday. It's a Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, and she
- 2:02Speaker 1: hears incredibly loud arguing in the main house, real arguing,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and at some point later she goes over to check
- 2:13Speaker 1: and finds Rob Reiner, her father, and her stepmother dead.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Calls police immediately they show up. There's recording these nine
- 2:23Speaker 1: to one one calls that I think there was a
- 2:25Speaker 1: fire department of something that responded first, calling for more backup,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and then the police show up. She tells them about
- 2:33Speaker 1: the arguing. She believes it was the son Nick, son
- 2:38Speaker 1: of Rob Reiner, who's thirty two years old. Now, this
- 2:41Speaker 1: son is a very, very troubled son. Drug addiction, mental,
- 2:46Speaker 1: all kinds of mental problems. He'd been so bad with
- 2:51Speaker 1: the drug addiction. Seventeen times in rehabit didn't work. He
- 2:55Speaker 1: ended up homeless on the street and Texas, homeless, in Maine,
- 2:59Speaker 1: homeless all over the place. I knew Rob Reiner. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: didn't know the kid, but if you look at any
- 3:04Speaker 1: picture of the kid, his eyes look a little psycho,
- 3:06Speaker 1: a little crazy. And I don't know the situation of
- 3:10Speaker 1: how this all started, with the drugs and everything, but
- 3:12Speaker 1: he just spiraled out of control and it was so hopeless.
- 3:16Speaker 1: There was absolutely no saving this kid. I'm sure Rob
- 3:20Speaker 1: Reiner tried, and at one point he came back to
- 3:25Speaker 1: Los Angeles. They thought they straightened him out, and he
- 3:27Speaker 1: made a movie about his drug addiction and about his
- 3:31Speaker 1: rehab and all of that stuff. But I guess this
- 3:33Speaker 1: went crazy again and there was no hope for this kid.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So it looks like he was the one in this crazy,
- 3:43Speaker 1: loud argument with the parents and then stabbed them and
- 3:46Speaker 1: slit their throats again. This is a mile and a
- 3:50Speaker 1: half from where Oj slit the throats of the wife
- 3:52Speaker 1: and Ron Brown. But now from what I've heard the police,
- 3:58Speaker 1: this is not confirmed, but police have taken the kid
- 4:01Speaker 1: into custody. He's thirty two. The son's name is Nick.
- 4:04Speaker 1: They have earlier an hour or two ago taking him
- 4:07Speaker 1: into custody, So that would indicate they have the evidence
- 4:11Speaker 1: they need, or they think they have the evidence that
- 4:14Speaker 1: he's guilty. So it was a terrible scene at the
- 4:18Speaker 1: home yesterday, Police all over the place, the crime tape
- 4:21Speaker 1: up close. Friends of Rob Brner, Billy Crystal, Larry David
- 4:25Speaker 1: was seen coming to the house leaving crying upset. So
- 4:30Speaker 1: there'd be a press conference of some kind. They'll announce
- 4:32Speaker 1: something later today. But apparently the son is in custody
- 4:38Speaker 1: and we'll see what happens. So you got that going on.
- 4:42Speaker 1: You also got Brown University terrible situation. Now. The first
- 4:46Speaker 1: reports indicated it was some sort of something to do
- 4:49Speaker 1: with anti semitism, anti Semitic attack, small Jewish community at
- 4:54Speaker 1: Brown University, but a lot of people there are also
- 4:58Speaker 1: saying the with a very small conservative bunch of people
- 5:03Speaker 1: at Brown University students and some are not so sure
- 5:06Speaker 1: this was anti semitism. It might have been anti conservatism.
- 5:10Speaker 1: One of the people shot turns out to be the
- 5:13Speaker 1: president's student, but the president of the Republican Club at
- 5:16Speaker 1: Brown University. So it could be anti semitism as a motive,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but there could also be an anti conservative attack. We'll see.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It's the Providence police department. Yeah, not the sharpest police
- 5:28Speaker 1: department on Earth. And Brown University very prominent university. I'm
- 5:36Speaker 1: not a big fan of their security director. You know,
- 5:39Speaker 1: a lot of times you're a university, when you hire
- 5:41Speaker 1: a security director, you hire somebody with incredible law enforcement experience. Ex.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Police x FBI is something like that. This guy his
- 5:50Speaker 1: whole life was campus security. You'll see somewhere in his
- 5:54Speaker 1: bio he was a policeman, a police captain. It was
- 5:56Speaker 1: campus police forces. So he's not a guy with any
- 6:00Speaker 1: real law enforcement experience. He spent his whole life in
- 6:04Speaker 1: campus police departments, then becoming a campus security director other
- 6:08Speaker 1: universities and Brown hired him a couple of years ago,
- 6:11Speaker 1: so he's the security director. You know, it may not
- 6:15Speaker 1: have been anything. There might not have been anything anybody
- 6:18Speaker 1: else could have done to protect this campus, but you
- 6:21Speaker 1: got that going on then you got the awful, horrific
- 6:24Speaker 1: Australia shooting. It was a Muslim terrorist attack. The shooters
- 6:28Speaker 1: a father and son, both Muslim terrorists, at this beach
- 6:33Speaker 1: in Australia, using one of those assault rifle you know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: you know the kind that Chuck Schumer and the others
- 6:39Speaker 1: yell about. Remember whenever there's a shooting with one of
- 6:41Speaker 1: those rifles, all they do is scream for more gun laws.
- 6:45Speaker 1: They act as if gun laws would prevent shootings. Now
- 6:50Speaker 1: nobody has tougher gun laws than Chicago, and they have
- 6:53Speaker 1: more shootings than any place in America. The problem with
- 6:56Speaker 1: the thinking gun laws as a solution is shooters a crib,
- 7:00Speaker 1: all those maniacs, criminals who don't follow laws. They don't
- 7:03Speaker 1: get a law book and look it up to see
- 7:05Speaker 1: if it's okay to do what they're doing. So in
- 7:07Speaker 1: this situation, nobody, nobody in the world, no country had
- 7:11Speaker 1: tougher gun laws than in Australia. They've been passing gun
- 7:15Speaker 1: laws since nineteen ninety six. Huge gun laws, tremendous gun laws.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So it has nothing to do with stopping shootings. It
- 7:23Speaker 1: was a horrible situation. You got one guy who was
- 7:26Speaker 1: a hero who hid between two parked cars, waited for
- 7:30Speaker 1: the right moment. The video is amazing. He runs out,
- 7:34Speaker 1: tackles the shooter with the rifle, somehow wrestles the gun
- 7:39Speaker 1: away from him and stops the shooter makes him lie down. However,
- 7:44Speaker 1: remember there was a second shooter, the Sun, who sees
- 7:46Speaker 1: what's going on and shoots the hero, hitting him twice.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But the hero has just had surgery. It looks like
- 7:52Speaker 1: he'll be okay. He's doing well. It looks like he'll
- 7:56Speaker 1: survive and be just fine. So an incredible hero in Australia,
- 8:00Speaker 1: an amazing act of bravery. He said to he was
- 8:04Speaker 1: with somebody else and he said, I'm not going to
- 8:06Speaker 1: survive this. He decided he would go tackle the shooter
- 8:09Speaker 1: and stop and he said, I'm not going to come
- 8:12Speaker 1: out of this alive. Tell my family this. And that's
- 8:14Speaker 1: but an amazing, amazing situation. So things could develop this morning.
- 8:20Speaker 1: There's going to be press conferences in La more details
- 8:23Speaker 1: about Rob Reiner. But from we know, the Sun is
- 8:26Speaker 1: in custody. It looks like he is the stabber. It's
- 8:30Speaker 1: a horrible, horrible situation. I knew Rob Reiner. He was
- 8:33Speaker 1: a very nice guy. I know he was a crazy
- 8:37Speaker 1: left wing nut politically, but I had a million conversations
- 8:43Speaker 1: with him. Never once talked about politics. We loved We
- 8:45Speaker 1: would talk about old show business and old comedians and
- 8:48Speaker 1: Sid Caesar and Dick Van Dyke Show and that kind
- 8:50Speaker 1: of stuff. But he's like a lot of Hollywood people,
- 8:54Speaker 1: he just got into the cult. You know, they sit
- 8:56Speaker 1: there and they watch MSNBC all day and they believe everything,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and they're hearing they think all this crazy stuff is true.
- 9:03Speaker 1: You know, it's like people who listen to those flying
- 9:04Speaker 1: saucer shows in the middle of the night, which are great,
- 9:07Speaker 1: they're entertaining, but these people start to believe it. They
- 9:10Speaker 1: think there's flying saucers everywhere. So it's the same thing
- 9:13Speaker 1: with the MSNBC crowd. And then they got all these
- 9:18Speaker 1: echo chambers where you know, it's reinforced from MSNBC. Then
- 9:21Speaker 1: they watch Colbert, they watch the crazy ABC Sunday shows.
- 9:27Speaker 1: They think Trump is a crook, a maniac, a dying,
- 9:30Speaker 1: he's a lunatic, he's a dictator. They start to believe
- 9:33Speaker 1: all this stuff. Listen, there's stuff you could not like
- 9:36Speaker 1: about Trump. I understand that, but you know, if they
- 9:41Speaker 1: ever stepped away from all that and got out of
- 9:43Speaker 1: the echo chamber. These Trump derangement syndrome idiots, they might
- 9:48Speaker 1: realize Trump is actually one of the most fascinating guys
- 9:51Speaker 1: in history. You know, there's a at a party yesterday,
- 9:56Speaker 1: a left wing nut, very prominent left wing nut, comes
- 10:00Speaker 1: over to me and he said, you know, I was
- 10:02Speaker 1: I remember you. It was a dinner party a couple
- 10:04Speaker 1: of years ago, and you were telling everybody Trump is
- 10:07Speaker 1: the most successful man in history. And I thought you
- 10:11Speaker 1: were crazy. I said, well, but I laid it out.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He conquers the business world. He then conquers publishing, he'd
- 10:17Speaker 1: be four best sellers. He goes into television, a total
- 10:21Speaker 1: amateur conquers that as the number one show on television.
- 10:24Speaker 1: He goes into politics. You know, usually a total amateur
- 10:28Speaker 1: tries to run for mayor or core. This guy tries
- 10:30Speaker 1: to run for the president. Total amateur wins, beats the
- 10:34Speaker 1: Clinton machine and the Bush machine, to go on and
- 10:37Speaker 1: on listing. I said, you can't name another guy, anybody
- 10:40Speaker 1: who's conquered like all six of these things. And the
- 10:44Speaker 1: guy said, well, yeah, you might. You might be so anyway,
- 10:48Speaker 1: And then I tried to explain to him I said,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you know, if you guys would stop hating him, going
- 10:52Speaker 1: nuts with your rage and start studying this guy, you
- 10:56Speaker 1: could learn stuff from him. You really could learn a
- 10:58Speaker 1: lot about how to succeed, how to do well. It's
- 11:03Speaker 1: a more interesting story besides making up stuff about he's
- 11:06Speaker 1: dying or he's a mania, a crook's. Instead of making
- 11:09Speaker 1: up all this stuff, it's actually a fascinating story to cover.
- 11:13Speaker 1: We've never seen anything like this. A president that works
- 11:16Speaker 1: like nineteen hours a day, a president that holds like
- 11:19Speaker 1: seventeen press conferences a day, a president that's flying all
- 11:23Speaker 1: over the place, having a million it's fascinating. And just
- 11:27Speaker 1: to study this guy's whole life and how he did things,
- 11:29Speaker 1: how he got so successful at everything. You think back
- 11:34Speaker 1: a year and a half ago. The guy's on trial
- 11:37Speaker 1: in four different cities. Can you imagine if you were
- 11:39Speaker 1: on trial. Imagine if you had been brought into court
- 11:42Speaker 1: they put you on trial, you wouldn't sleep at night,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you wouldn't be able to you'd be in there so much.
- 11:47Speaker 1: This guy's in four trials in four cities. Looks like
- 11:50Speaker 1: he's going to go to jail forever. He's going to
- 11:52Speaker 1: get convicted six thousand times. Guy didn't even blink, didn't
- 11:55Speaker 1: even flinch, fights right through that. Can you imagine you're
- 11:59Speaker 1: standing there in a bull that hits you in the head,
- 12:01Speaker 1: takes part of your ear off, and all he can
- 12:04Speaker 1: think to do is jump up and pump his fist
- 12:06Speaker 1: and y'all fight. I mean, it's a guy to study.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You could hate him, but study this guy. You could
- 12:11Speaker 1: learn a lot from this guy. What else James Comer.
- 12:16Speaker 1: They're having these hearings in Congress about Epstein. They've allowed
- 12:21Speaker 1: some people to submit written statements about what they had
- 12:24Speaker 1: to do with Epstein. In the case of Bill Clinton,
- 12:26Speaker 1: he's demanding that Bill Clinton come testify in person. Hillary
- 12:31Speaker 1: and Bill. I don't think Hillary knows much about Epstein.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Other you might know something, but it's Bill that was
- 12:35Speaker 1: really involved. But the Clintons apparently are adamant they will
- 12:40Speaker 1: not come and testify, and they may have to at
- 12:42Speaker 1: some point, but they're going to fight this like crazy
- 12:45Speaker 1: not to come and testify. They know it's a circus,
- 12:48Speaker 1: it's a theatrical show to get you know, cameras there,
- 12:51Speaker 1: to get Bill Clinton under oath testifying, So they don't
- 12:56Speaker 1: they don't want to do that. Now, remember, left wing
- 12:59Speaker 1: media will not show Clinton testifying. They'll show you one
- 13:01Speaker 1: second clip. You know, there's a deposition in the Monica
- 13:05Speaker 1: Lewinsky case. You can go on YouTube and see it.
- 13:08Speaker 1: A deposition where they go into graphic detail, graphic detail
- 13:13Speaker 1: about the sex he had with Monica Lewinsky. You wouldn't
- 13:17Speaker 1: believe the detail. And Clinton's right on camera having to
- 13:20Speaker 1: talk about this. You know, left wing media, they never
- 13:23Speaker 1: showed it, never showed it. If that was Trump, you'd
- 13:25Speaker 1: be seeing it all day and night. It'd be primetime specials. Clinton,
- 13:29Speaker 1: they buried it, So if he testifies, they'll bury this testimony. Now,
- 13:36Speaker 1: he could try to avoid testifying, but remember the last
- 13:40Speaker 1: two guys that tried that were Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon,
- 13:44Speaker 1: and they were sent to prison for not showing up
- 13:47Speaker 1: in person to testify. So the last two, now they
- 13:50Speaker 1: were Trump people, but they were sent to prison. So
- 13:55Speaker 1: that's the precedent that's been set. So Clinton had better
- 13:59Speaker 1: show up for this testimony. Hey, we're kind of keeping
- 14:03Speaker 1: the secret, but I just saw a press release went out.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I'm taking the last two weeks of the year off.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Next week I'll be off, and the week after two
- 14:12Speaker 1: weeks I'll be off. It'll be the Christmas break. I know,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I hate to take that much time off, but you
- 14:18Speaker 1: get you know, I have all these vacation days. You
- 14:20Speaker 1: got to use them. So I'll be taking the last
- 14:22Speaker 1: two weeks off. It'll be the Christmas break. I guess
- 14:25Speaker 1: I can say it. There's a press release that went out.
- 14:26Speaker 1: It's been announced. Guess who's going to fill in for
- 14:28Speaker 1: me for two weeks. Curtis Lee. Curtis will be here
- 14:34Speaker 1: for two weeks doing the show. That'll be great. He
- 14:37Speaker 1: hasn't been heard on radio in a while. He had
- 14:39Speaker 1: to go off the air course to run for mayor,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and he's mad at his old station. I don't know
- 14:45Speaker 1: what will happen there, but you'll be able to hear
- 14:48Speaker 1: Curtis next week and the week after. Two weeks he'll
- 14:51Speaker 1: be filling in for me. You know, for many, many,
- 14:54Speaker 1: many many years, he had the number one morning radio show,
- 14:57Speaker 1: morning talk show in New York City. So that'll be
- 15:00Speaker 1: great to hear them again. That's coming up. Hey, if
- 15:04Speaker 1: you're saying I gotta get out of New York, who
- 15:06Speaker 1: the hell wants to live here anymore? It's too cold,
- 15:08Speaker 1: the snow it's awful here. Maybe I'll move to Florida.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Maybe I'll move to North Carolina. Go walk around the
- 15:15Speaker 1: streets of New York in the next week or two
- 15:17Speaker 1: and look at the tourists. Normally I'm not here on
- 15:21Speaker 1: the weekends, but I was here yesterday. I had to
- 15:23Speaker 1: go a lot of Christmas parties. But all over the
- 15:25Speaker 1: place yesterday. The tourists are everywhere, and they've paid a
- 15:31Speaker 1: fortune to come to New York. You know, if you
- 15:32Speaker 1: come to New York right now at Christmas time, hotel
- 15:34Speaker 1: rates are huge. You can't even get a hotel room
- 15:37Speaker 1: right now. But watch these tourists, Watch them with their kids,
- 15:42Speaker 1: Watch them walking around looking at everything we take for granted.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Watch them look at it with just their eyes light up.
- 15:47Speaker 1: They can't believe the things they're seeing, stuff they've only
- 15:50Speaker 1: seen on Instagram. Not just the tree, but all the
- 15:53Speaker 1: great restaurants, hotels, stores, the streets. They just they paid
- 15:59Speaker 1: a fortune to come here. So don't take it for granted.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Don't get it's terrible. It was freezing cold yesterday, wash snow,
- 16:10Speaker 1: black ice. They were walking around so thrilled to be here,
- 16:14Speaker 1: thrilled to be here. Don't take it for granted. He
- 16:18Speaker 1: should really be thrilled that you're in the middle of
- 16:21Speaker 1: New York City. You know, people take things for granted.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I got a friend who's a big comedian. He's appearing
- 16:26Speaker 1: on cruise ships, luxury cruise ships. They pay him a
- 16:32Speaker 1: lot of money, and when you're the star performer, they
- 16:35Speaker 1: give you the most beautiful state room. Everything is free,
- 16:38Speaker 1: meals everything. This is going on for weeks, he's on
- 16:43Speaker 1: different ships, calls me, wants to kill himself. Once I
- 16:46Speaker 1: got to get out of it's the worst. I can't
- 16:48Speaker 1: stand that, I said. You know, everybody else in the
- 16:50Speaker 1: ship saved up for years though afford this cruise. It's
- 16:52Speaker 1: the dream vacation, and you're complaining that. People start to
- 16:56Speaker 1: take things for granted. Friend of mine's a travel agent.
- 16:59Speaker 1: You know, you're a big travel agent. The top hotels
- 17:01Speaker 1: of the world will fly you over there. It's they
- 17:04Speaker 1: call it something site inspection or something super luxury hotel
- 17:09Speaker 1: in Europe. You have to go stay there for a
- 17:11Speaker 1: few days. They fly on the finest first class airline,
- 17:15Speaker 1: biggest hotel. They take it. All the top restaurants. So
- 17:17Speaker 1: you know, as a travel consultant, you can tell everybody
- 17:22Speaker 1: they call me from there. Oh God, I got to
- 17:24Speaker 1: go to another hotel. Huh. I just want to go home.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I just this is a dream vacation for people, and
- 17:28Speaker 1: they're complaining about it. So it's the same thing with
- 17:30Speaker 1: New York. Stop complaining. Go out today and look at
- 17:33Speaker 1: all the tourists and the wonderment in their eyes as
- 17:35Speaker 1: they look around in New York. Hey, we'll take some calls. Next.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten is the number.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Eight hundred three two one zero seven ten.
