Transcript
- 0:11Brandan: Hello, and welcome to the Seahawkers podcast.
- 0:12I'm Brandan Schulze, and I am joined by a couple of my good buddies.
- 0:18We've got Clinton Bonner and Adam Emmert.
- 0:22Adam, uh, you and I have talked recently, but the little
- 0:26Flockers haven't seen it yet.
- 0:27We're gonna be going with, uh, episode 504, Know Your Rivals, here pretty soon.
- 0:32But before we do that, we're out here Sunday night, live, and,
- 0:36uh, talking to Clinton Bonner.
- 0:38Adam: Yes, we are.
- 0:39It…
- 0:39It's, uh, fun to get on with Clinton, 'cause it's been a minute
- 0:41since him and I have even chatted.
- 0:43And you're right, we just put the Know Your Rivals, uh, Rams edition
- 0:47in the, in the can yesterday.
- 0:49And look, if you don't wanna listen to an hour and 45 minutes of that,
- 0:53I can sum it up for you real quick.
- 0:54It's F the Rams, and I think, uh, Clinton, you would agree
- 0:58with the sentiment of that.
- 0:59Clinton: So I have adopted the phrase crybaby [bleep] into my life.
- 1:03Yeah.
- 1:03Like, that's become a thing I now say because of you guys.
- 1:06And I say that in all sorts of settings on the East Coast.
- 1:09So it's, it's just spreading.
- 1:11People, like, when I say that, they're like, they love it.
- 1:13They spill out.
- 1:14They think it's the greatest thing of all time.
- 1:16Like, "You know, he's a crybaby [bleep]."
- 1:17And I'm not even…
- 1:17You know, it doesn't have to be McVay.
- 1:19I mean, it, it started with McVay.
- 1:21Yeah.
- 1:21But now it's like, it applies to anybody who is a crybaby [bleep], like McVay.
- 1:28Brandan: I, I, I have a feeling that that's been adopted into the lexicon
- 1:32o- of many listeners, so I, I hope that you're happy spreading that around.
- 1:35I, I think you must be, Adam.
- 1:37Adam: Uh, hey, look, uh, big shout-out to my dad.
- 1:39That's where I got that one from.
- 1:41So, uh, he's had that one in the, in the holster for years and years.
- 1:45That's been one of his favorites, so pretty cool.
- 1:47Uh, big shout-out to Lemonok here, 1990 member for 15 months.
- 1:51Dude, it's good to see you, too, even if it's through text on a, on the thing here.
- 1:56Like, that's pretty cool.
- 1:57Appreciate that, no doubt about it.
- 1:59Uh, I hope that, uh, you are safe from all the crazy-ass
- 2:03wildfires there in Washington.
- 2:05Uh, I did reach out to Phil today.
- 2:07It, he is in that Spokane-ish area, and, uh, he's, he's safe at the moment, and,
- 2:13uh, so good, but to any of you being affected by that, uh, man, uh, stay safe.
- 2:18It's, it's wild.
- 2:19Brandan: Yeah, definitely impacting a lot of Seahawks fans over there, and,
- 2:22and for the non-Seahawks fans, too.
- 2:24Like, uh, we, we want everybody to be safe over there, so, uh-
- 2:27Adam: Do we want…
- 2:28If you're a Rams fan in Spokane, do we want- I mean- … your house to
- 2:30still be standing after this, or like-
- 2:33Brandan: I think I do
- 2:33that's too far?
- 2:33Yeah, I think I do.
- 2:35Adam: Yeah, okay.
- 2:35I just wanted to make sure.
- 2:36Sometimes
- 2:37Brandan: you gotta check that- I mean, you, you have to think
- 2:38about it for a minute … okay.
- 2:38But yeah, it's, we, we don't want homes burning down for e- even- Yeah,
- 2:42that's fair … our biggest rivals.
- 2:43Adam: Yeah.
- 2:43Correct.
- 2:43Okay.
- 2:43All right.
- 2:44Correct.
- 2:45Brandan: Uh, we are talking training camp and looking back.
- 2:49One, we're one week in, and, uh, that's pretty wild.
- 2:53Mm-hmm.
- 2:53We have, uh, a, a practice coming up that's gonna be open to the public
- 2:57here toward the end of the week.
- 2:58We're gonna have, uh, Hard Knocks coming up this week- Yes … that
- 3:02I, I'm sure we're gonna be getting into, so got a lot of news and notes
- 3:06here from this past week, gentlemen.
- 3:08We've got Godzirahawk in with $10 saying, "You guys are a
- 3:12sight for sore eyes and butts."
- 3:14Uh, almost home from a trip to Nashville for the weekend.
- 3:18Uh, you know, appreciate you checking in with the executive
- 3:21producer donation, Godzirahawk.
- 3:23Adam: Heck yeah.
- 3:24Awesome.
- 3:24And, uh, I don't think- Look, Mark, you're not allowed to go to Nashville without us.
- 3:29Like, uh, you know, last time I was in Nashville, you were there.
- 3:31How, how dare you go without giving us a heads up?
- 3:33Clinton: Yeah.
- 3:34What's up, Mark?
- 3:34Uh, appreciate it a ton.
- 3:36Uh, guys, it's, it's, we're a full week in.
- 3:39We are a f- like you said, Brandon, a full week in now, and the pads are back
- 3:42on, and the clickety-clacks are back.
- 3:45The substation is, is doing its thing over across the bay, which is
- 3:48something still, which is amazing.
- 3:50There's gigantic movies in the theaters.
- 3:53Uh, you know, the world is a, the wor- at least America is abuzz with
- 3:56culture and fanfare, and football is really starting to permeate back.
- 4:01I see two heads nodding.
- 4:02You're like, "Yes, yes," right?
- 4:04It just feels, Adam, I don't know about you, the page has turned, and
- 4:08my brain mentally was like, "Oh my gosh," like it's August 1, but we
- 4:12have football l- in literally 34 days.
- 4:15Now real football.
- 4:16Adam: Yeah, for real.
- 4:17Look, and the three of us had talked throughout the off-season, and I know
- 4:20specifically for me and Brandon, and I know you too, maybe to a lesser
- 4:22degree, Clinton, having a hard time getting like locked in during the
- 4:25off-season, and like coming up with lists and stupid topics to talk about
- 4:30because I was just too busy basking in the glory of being current champions.
- 4:34And, uh, yeah, with training camp getting rolling and starting to hear a few of the
- 4:40reports come out that, again, take them with a grain of salt, but a lot of news
- 4:45you'd rather hear- Yeah … than things you would not wanna hear, right, Brandon?
- 4:48Brandan: Yeah.
- 4:49Top five storylines so far.
- 4:51The Seahawks are still Super Bowl champions.
- 4:53Number two, we're Super Bowl champs.
- 4:56Number three, we're defending Super Bowl champs.
- 4:58Four, we're running it forward.
- 5:00And, uh, five, we're gonna win the Super Bowl.
- 5:02So, uh- That's right … I, I, I think that, uh, sums it up really nicely.
- 5:06Ryan911 in with a 9.99
- 5:10executive producer donation.
- 5:11I don't wanna get too hype after one week of training camp, but I can't believe
- 5:15we have JSN, Horton, and Kupp, the three greatest receivers in the history-
- 5:19of NFL on one team at the same time.
- 5:22The Tory Horton story is fascinating because we did v- we finally,
- 5:27we finally, after all this time, found out what his injury was.
- 5:31It wasn't shin splints.
- 5:32No, he had a broken freaking leg.
- 5:34He had a rod put in his leg in the off-season, and now it's super
- 5:37sturdy, and he's out and back in training camp tou- catching
- 5:40touchdown passes and doing his thing.
- 5:43Clinton: Well, guys, I could chime in 'cause I saw Spider-Man last
- 5:45night, so I feel like when we talk about bionic men, I could weigh
- 5:49in heavily here and, and wisely.
- 5:51So look-
- 5:52Brandan: A receiver with web shooters would be- … very ideal.
- 5:55Clinton: Pretty good.
- 5:55Not-
- 5:55Brandan: Spider-Man would be like- Not just
- 5:57Clinton: stickum … the
- 5:57Brandan: best wide receiver.
- 5:59Clinton: Yeah, now who ha- who has the best hands in the history of the NFL?
- 6:02Like just pure, best hands.
- 6:04Jerry Rice
- 6:05Brandan: probably.
- 6:05Clinton: Jerry Rice is up there.
- 6:08Steve Largent.
- 6:08Like- Steve Largent.
- 6:08Yeah, yeah.
- 6:08Yeah.
- 6:08Like pure stickum we- you know, web, web sticky hands.
- 6:11That's an interesting debate for a different day.
- 6:13But Tory Horton was extraordinarily fast.
- 6:17And remember last year, we would kind of make fun of him a little bit because
- 6:20sometimes he would- get ahead of himself and kinda like stumble like a gazelle,
- 6:24but then go for 82 yards anyway.
- 6:25Um, yeah, guys, if, if, Adam, I know you're a big proponent of, of, of
- 6:30Tory Horton and we love the dude.
- 6:32As a second-year guy, it's like, as a, as a fourth wide receiver currently,
- 6:38like depth chart-wise, a four, right?
- 6:41Like, we're chuckling about the, the embarrassment of riches there,
- 6:43but, like, where, where do you, where do you think- I think Adam's
- 6:47Brandan: chuckling because you put him too low
- 6:48Clinton: I- well, look, Kupp's supposed, supposed to be having a
- 6:50great off-season, and sh- what, we just paid Shead, and we know JSN's JSN.
- 6:55So, where, where would you put him on this team anyway?
- 6:58Adam, I'll toss that to you.
- 6:59Adam: All right.
- 7:00Good.
- 7:00Well, I hope I'm back because you guys both froze on me there for a second.
- 7:03But, uh, uh, so I don't know exactly what your question was- … but I, I, what
- 7:07I can say is, uh, it's awesome having Torrey back, and the idea that our wide
- 7:12receiver room has that kind of depth with him being, you know, considered a
- 7:15backup, uh, at this point is outrageous.
- 7:18I mean, the amount of touchdowns on the few targets that he got last year going
- 7:23through week nine, like, that just shows you just what type of player that he is.
- 7:28And, you know, if his leg is now, like, you know, Billion Dollar Man
- 7:32strong- Yes … like, we're, we're in great shape, uh, at that position.
- 7:36And I think not just the Horton story, but Arroyo- Mm-hmm
- 7:40hearing about him in camp, hearing about Milroe having some nice days,
- 7:43hearing Sam is, is looking super sharp, uh, Jadarian doing his thing,
- 7:48the offensive line having continuity.
- 7:50It…
- 7:50But I think the most important thing I've been hearing, and again, this
- 7:54doesn't mean anything, but again, it's one of the stories that you would
- 7:57like to hear rather than other ones, the offense kinda having its way with
- 8:02Brandan: the defense.
- 8:02Hmm.
- 8:03Yeah.
- 8:03I, uh, Mike had some interesting things to say about that because,
- 8:07um, you know, there, uh, is, is that, uh, being allowed, or is that
- 8:12just, uh, what's been happening?
- 8:13Uh, one of the things happening in chat, we've got The Snail donating, uh,
- 8:17five Seahawkers podcast memberships, so big thanks to The Snail.
- 8:21Yeah.
- 8:21Clinton: Thank you, dude.
- 8:22Brandan: Thanks coming in from the chat as well.
- 8:23Lemonhawk1990 with $5, "Biggest 2026 storyline will be we will be
- 8:29back-to-back Super Bowl champs.
- 8:30Calling it now, and hopefully living in Washington."
- 8:33Yeah, we hope you're, you're joining, uh, the rest of the
- 8:35Seahawks fans here in Washington.
- 8:38And yeah, so, uh, there, you, you ran through about, uh, I
- 8:42think our entire show, Adam.
- 8:45Adam: Well, no, I ju- I, I gave the bullet points.
- 8:47I gave the outline- … so now we can crank through 'em, man.
- 8:50I was setting you up.
- 8:50That's called being a professional.
- 8:52Brandan: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:52You've, uh- … and now we don't know exactly where to go next,
- 8:55but, uh, we'll go, we'll go with one of those bullet points.
- 8:58And, uh, I, I guess, uh, the one bullet point you didn't, uh, put in there- Mm
- 9:03was our, our Seahawks defense.
- 9:05They have, uh, a new name.
- 9:07They are m- Managers of Violence.
- 9:10Clinton: I saw that on the thumbnail.
- 9:12So where did that…
- 9:13I, I love it.
- 9:14You know, like, you know, we were the MOB, we're the dark
- 9:17side, and now we're the MOV.
- 9:19Where, where'd that, where'd it stem from, Brandon?
- 9:21Was it a particular player?
- 9:21I
- 9:21Brandan: th- I think it was Byron Murphy.
- 9:23It was one of the guys, or maybe it was Leo who was wearing a, a, a- Jarran Reed
- 9:28… Manager of Violence, uh, uh, T-shirt.
- 9:30Who was it?
- 9:31Adam: Jarran Reed.
- 9:32Brandan: It was Jarran, okay.
- 9:33Clinton: Manager of Violence.
- 9:34I love that because, you know, the, uh, you know, uh, what's not stated is
- 9:40that, like, you know, we could choose to be violent whenever we want to.
- 9:43We manage our violence, you know?
- 9:45It, that, that's the whole implication there, which I love.
- 9:48And, um, yeah, it does feel that way.
- 9:50And while we're talking about the defense, we joked about it in whatever
- 9:55Discord and, and some text threads.
- 9:57How about Madden 2026 ranking the Seahawks defense as 10th best in the
- 10:03game while, while misspelling- Seahawks
- 10:07the Seahawks.
- 10:08The name.
- 10:08Adam: Oh, God, I didn't even catch that.
- 10:10Clinton: I know.
- 10:10Wow.
- 10:10I didn't see it the first time either.
- 10:11They put a…
- 10:12Well, the good news is they put a W i- like, in the wrong place, but if you're
- 10:16gonna put an extra letter inside Seahawks, add them, it might as well be a W.
- 10:20Adam: Might as well because, uh, there'll be stacking more dubs this season for sure
- 10:24on their march back to running it forward and being back-to-back champs here.
- 10:28But, uh, the Managers of Violence thing is interesting.
- 10:31Uh- It is good … I, I love the, the turn of phrase.
- 10:33What I am curious about, though, are they, like, low level, mid level, or
- 10:37upper management- … of violence?
- 10:39That's what I really wanna know.
- 10:41Brandan: I, I think we have managers at all levels and, and they're also, while
- 10:45managing, they'll also be executing.
- 10:47So I, I think that, uh…
- 10:49A- and I do like the, the phrase executing, uh … Wow.
- 10:53Adam: With
- 10:53Brandan: the NFL too.
- 10:54Yeah.
- 10:54Adam: That's violent.
- 10:55Yeah.
- 10:55Which one of us was military?
- 10:56I think you'll figure it out real quick.
- 10:58Yeah.
- 11:00Brandan: Uh, yeah, the, so Managers of Violence.
- 11:03I, I just think it's interesting that they've…
- 11:06Th- they're not just going to go with, "Oh, well, this worked for us last year.
- 11:11We were the MOB and, um, the dark side."
- 11:14And so it's like they're coming up with, um, other themes to kind of, to go
- 11:20along with the defense this year to…
- 11:22Because one of the things that they talked about was not wanting…
- 11:26Wi- with there being some new players, new rookies, new guys coming to the
- 11:30team, they, they didn't want them to feel left out in some way, which i-
- 11:35that's kinda cool that they want to bring everybody along and have, have these new
- 11:39themes that everybody's involved with
- 11:41Clinton: Yeah.
- 11:42I love, I love all, all of that.
- 11:44I love nicknames, so I'm, I'm a sucker for all of those things too.
- 11:47Guys, one of the topics that I really wanted to chat about too, which
- 11:51seemingly w- might as well go to it now, like we talk about Horton and we
- 11:55bring up Arroyo and, you know, Josh DeHoop who brought the, the halfbacks,
- 11:59running backs, everything else getting more involved in the pass game.
- 12:02The more and more I see all these highlights, and I realize, you know,
- 12:05pads are on now, but it's still just, it's still practice, whatever.
- 12:09But all of these beautiful catches, Horton on the sideline, Arroyo down the seam,
- 12:13Jadarian Price over his shoulder, all these things, and everybody's like going
- 12:17gaga over the pass catchers, which I love.
- 12:19But Brandon, the part I think I love the most is that it doesn't matter
- 12:24which dude is spinning the ball.
- 12:26It could be Drew Lock, it could be Milroe, it could be Darnold.
- 12:28These are dots, and these are like back shoulder…
- 12:32These are things that are…
- 12:33These are not like, oh, a two-yard horizontal toss out to, to Chubby
- 12:38Deebo Samuels, who's gonna get tackled for a loss for three.
- 12:41These are in rhythm, in like, just like seemingly like the system is kind of
- 12:46getting even more matured and more locked in, and that part excites me, Brandon.
- 12:51I feel like our QBs, the room, might have actually gotten better
- 12:54after a championship season.
- 12:56Brandan: Lisa in chat, Whistle Jacket saying, "Clinton
- 12:59getting tweaked about Arroyo."
- 13:01I love it.
- 13:01Yeah.
- 13:02Clinton: About the passes go- I, still, yeah, Arroyo, Arroyo's been playing good.
- 13:05But those passes to those dudes-
- 13:07Brandan: Right
- 13:07… Clinton: again, they seem to be a little bit even level up crisper, uh, than
- 13:12they were, you know, halfway through the year last year, which is great.
- 13:15Brandan: No, if, if, uh, we have three quarterbacks that, uh, can all sling it
- 13:20and, uh, you know, the receivers are doing well, I, I am excited about the offense.
- 13:25And especially with the offense being kind of the part that was in
- 13:30question going into the off-season with a new offensive coordinator.
- 13:34Uh, I like the idea of being hyped up, especially if maybe we're gonna
- 13:38be featuring tight ends a little bit more, especially since, uh, hopefully
- 13:42we have some capable tight ends.
- 13:43I know AJ Barner's capable.
- 13:45Uh, the, the pass catching capability beyond that, if Arroyo
- 13:49can fit into that, even better.
- 13:51Although we just talked about how deep we are at, at, uh, wide receiver.
- 13:55If we're, if we're six deep at pass catchers a- and, uh, still
- 14:00focused on running the ball, um, we're gonna, we're hopefully gonna
- 14:04have some balance, right Adam?
- 14:06Adam: Well, the cool part about all of that, these are
- 14:09the problems you wanna have.
- 14:10Right.
- 14:10You have all of this talent that you can now incorporate into the offense,
- 14:14and it does present a challenge, no doubt, for somebody like Brian Fleury,
- 14:17first-time play caller, in that how am I gonna incorporate all these guys?
- 14:21Where is that balance in terms of not just running to pass
- 14:25ratios, but also formationally?
- 14:27Like, how often are we- Mm-hmm … gonna be out there in 12 personnel like
- 14:30the Seahawks were last year, where I believe they either, they were
- 14:33in the top five at the very least running 12 personnel last year.
- 14:36Um, they even ran some 13 personnel after Sean McVay invented it.
- 14:39And so that was cool.
- 14:41Uh, so you know, what's gonna be most effective for this team when
- 14:45it comes to the passing game?
- 14:47Is it gonna be a lot more, uh, you know, 12, 13 personnel with more tight
- 14:51ends, maybe more 11, uh, personnel with, uh, three receiver sets?
- 14:55Or are we gonna see a lot more two back stuff?
- 14:57And I saw Robbie Ouzts mention it in the comments here from Cope
- 15:01Approach here just a minute ago.
- 15:02Um, there's a cool video by Legion of, of 12s that, that they put out the other day.
- 15:07He does some nice film analysis stuff.
- 15:09Kind of a newer channel, or at least it was new to me.
- 15:11Um, and he was talking about the way the Niners use Juszczyk in dash motion,
- 15:17is what he calls it, and basically it's kind of that sprint motion of
- 15:21the fullback who is lined up on the line, and there's a bunch of different
- 15:25things they can do out of that.
- 15:26And how effective that was for the Niners last year, it could make
- 15:29Ouzts a valuable part of this too.
- 15:31So how do you balance that?
- 15:33Hell if I know.
- 15:34That's why I'm not the offensive coordinator, but man alive, it is
- 15:38awesome to hear that the offense has been progressing and getting the
- 15:43best of the best defense in football, uh, throughout training camp, or
- 15:48at least these first few days.
- 15:50Brandon, you had mentioned is that being allowed, or is it that the defen- do
- 15:54you think that, uh, Spoon and Ernest Jones and Byron Murphy, like, allow
- 16:00anything, like, when they're out there?
- 16:02Brandan: I suppose not.
- 16:03So I haven't seen the video that you're talking about, uh, with the
- 16:06sprint motion with the fullback.
- 16:08Is that something…
- 16:11'Cause one of the things that we've seen from Kyle Shanahan is that he's
- 16:15always effective of, at vacating the middle seemingly to where he's getting
- 16:19wide receiv- o- uh, wide receivers open over the middle for kind of
- 16:22easy completions for Brock Purdy.
- 16:24Is, is it, uh, that, that sprint out drawing them one of the linebackers
- 16:30kind of out of the box so that way it, it- there's one fewer defender
- 16:34that you really have to worry about, and that kind of makes some of
- 16:37those throws a little bit easier?
- 16:39Adam: Yeah, I think that could be an option.
- 16:41The, I think the focus of the video was more on how it impacts the run game.
- 16:44So n- Mm … there wasn't a lot of insight into that part of it.
- 16:47But think of it in terms of how much they do use Juszczyk out in patterns, right?
- 16:52Um, as he's gotten older, he's been a lot less effective of that.
- 16:55But, you know, Ouzts has that sort of ability with his tight end background.
- 16:59But I think more so what you'd see from the running back position that
- 17:02would help the passing game is that insert motion stuff that they do
- 17:07with, uh, McCaffrey a lot, and how many ways that they get him the ball.
- 17:11And I think it's pretty evident that that's something that they're gonna
- 17:14try to do, or at least get the running backs involved in the passing game
- 17:18with as much as we're seeing them get the ball out in the passing game to
- 17:22Jadarian early, just to see how that all works out and see if that could
- 17:26be a big part of their, their offense.
- 17:28And that could very well influence the linebackers to void maybe some
- 17:31more space, especially in the middle.
- 17:33Brandan: Yeah, Cope Approach in chat saying, "Heard the dash motion
- 17:36plays led to CMC's biggest runs."
- 17:38Yeah.
- 17:38"Opened up a lot of runs for him."
- 17:40And speaking of running backs too, that was one of the things in my notes is
- 17:44just kind of looking at this running back battle and Jadarian Price- Mm-hmm
- 17:48getting a l- a lot of time with the ones, and maybe with the expectations that
- 17:53you'll see Price then on first and second down, and see Holani as more of the third
- 17:57down running back being, uh, s- that he's so well praised in his, uh, blitz pickup
- 18:03and, and, um- Mm … wanting him in the backfield in the passing game primarily.
- 18:08So, uh, if, if that works out, if we're seeing Price on first and second down
- 18:13to start week one, then I, I think that means good things for this offense because
- 18:18I think when you draft a guy in the first round, that's the expectation is
- 18:22that's gonna be the guy to be ready and, uh, yeah, if, if they're combining that
- 18:26then with some of the fullback motions and able to get Price, uh, some, some
- 18:31space, I, I, I could be very excited about the Seahawks offense, Clinton.
- 18:35Clinton: Yeah, the, you took it where I wanted to go 'cause
- 18:37I wanted to talk running back.
- 18:39And I just wonder, you, he, we just said, like, we're 34 or so days out
- 18:43from actual kickoff, like September, whatever, you know, it's like right,
- 18:45right around there, something like that, or maybe I'm a off by a week, whatever.
- 18:48But we're, we're hovering in, and, you know, you see the one-on-one
- 18:54drills, and you see J- Jadarian doing his best, but not quite there yet.
- 18:59But that's okay.
- 19:00He's like t- seven days into his, his NFL venture.
- 19:04But then you watch Holani do his thing, and it's like, dude, he's…
- 19:07Like, he legitimately seals up every single time.
- 19:10Doesn't matter if it's like a defensive tackle or, or he's going
- 19:13one-on-one versus a linebacker.
- 19:15It's like, dude, he's, he's got…
- 19:16It's like, you know, like Bruce Wayne in Gotham.
- 19:18It's locked down, dudes.
- 19:20So I just wonder, week one, week two, week three, if Holani is the clear best,
- 19:27you know, uh, best guy to protect Sam.
- 19:29Does he get the, the starting nod, saying, "You know what?
- 19:32We have enough juice."
- 19:33We just talked about six, seven dudes we could throw the ball to Adam.
- 19:37So is it more like, "Hey, you know what?
- 19:38Let Holani start, and let the rookie marinate a bit more."
- 19:43What do you…
- 19:43How do you think it shakes out?
- 19:45Adam: I guess it all depends on how the coaches feel about Jadarian's, uh,
- 19:49progression throughout training camp here.
- 19:51'Cause I, I listened to Price talk a little bit in an interview, uh, yesterday,
- 19:56and he spoke, uh, specifically on the pass protection side, and really felt
- 20:01like he was making massive strides- Yeah
- 20:02and felt like things were getting a lot easier and a lot better for him.
- 20:06You know, this is one of those things about the running back p- position
- 20:10that I think people wring their hands about, like, far too much.
- 20:14Hmm.
- 20:15The, the pass pro part of it.
- 20:16Is it important?
- 20:17Yes.
- 20:17Does a guy need to learn how to do it?
- 20:19Yes.
- 20:20Is it the same as learning the, uh, rhythm and paths of outside zone in,
- 20:28you know, where your cutback lanes are?
- 20:29Hell no, it's not even close, right?
- 20:31Like, so the idea, like, everybody worrying about, "Well, who's gonna be the
- 20:35third down pass protector," and like all that, um, one of the guys, and they'll
- 20:39be good enough at it, and it'll be fine.
- 20:40Like, I, I just, I just don't find myself, uh, thinking or worrying about third down
- 20:48pass pro from the back all that often.
- 20:51Like, it's an- I,
- 20:52Clinton: I get that.
- 20:52I, I, I get that, but I guess what I'm challenging or asking
- 20:55about is, do we think Holani will win, like be RB1 because he, he's
- 21:01seemingly safer right now, you know?
- 21:03And he's a- Well- … good back himself, like, and be on the, be
- 21:06on the field first and second down potentially, not just third down.
- 21:10Adam: I think kind of the way that Brandon put it, like, being, Holani being
- 21:13the third down back, that makes sense.
- 21:15I, I think this is gonna be Price as your starter, uh, in terms of taking
- 21:21the primary amount of carries and being featured in the run game and early downs.
- 21:26Um, he's just too talented, and I like George Holani a lot.
- 21:29Brandan: Sure.
- 21:29Adam: But, I mean, compare the two players, especially coming out of
- 21:32college, George Holani's a good player.
- 21:35Price is better.
- 21:36Like, there's more talent there.
- 21:37There's a reason why he gets drafted in the first round and Holani goes undrafted.
- 21:41Uh, i- and it's pretty obvious.
- 21:43So I, I think this is gonna be Price's job to lose when it's all said and done
- 21:47in terms of volume of carries early on.
- 21:50Brandan: Josh DeHooman in chat saying, "Let people sleep on Holani.
- 21:53He'll make them pay."
- 21:54Holani/Price/Wilson/Sharp is going to make the league pay.
- 21:58Pound that rock as Ouzts and Russell pave the way for them.
- 22:01And, uh, Cope Approach talking about some of the depth as well at wide receiver.
- 22:06Emmanuel Henderson Jr.
- 22:07having a good camp.
- 22:08I want him on the main roster if we carry- Hmm … a sixth wide receiver.
- 22:11A seventh?
- 22:12This is a good note.
- 22:12A seventh?
- 22:12A good note for everybody, uh, who is, uh, watching training camp.
- 22:18Um, you- you're gonna fall in love with…
- 22:21You're gonna have a- a d- a- a training camp crush.
- 22:24Yep.
- 22:24And it's gonna be, it's gonna be hard when they don't make the team.
- 22:27I'm not saying Emmanuel Henderson Jr.
- 22:29is gonna be that guy, but he could be that guy.
- 22:31So I, I just wanna prepare you and everybody that you- we're gonna see
- 22:35these guys, they're gonna ball out in preseason, and then r- realize that
- 22:40sixth wide receiver is probably pass catcher number nine on this roster.
- 22:45Adam: And gunner number two.
- 22:46Clinton: Right, right.
- 22:47That- that- that's where, that's where you're gonna win
- 22:49and get a, get a roster spot.
- 22:50And two things is we also get hard knocks, we mentioned that
- 22:54earlier, which starts in two days.
- 22:56So we get that to fall, to fall in love even deeper and even
- 22:59quicker, 'cause we'll get to see real personalities which we don't
- 23:02normally get a look into that deeply.
- 23:05And the other side is too, like Henderson right now I think is seven, right?
- 23:09'Cause we ke- Bobo and White I think are five, six.
- 23:14Put them w- whatever order- Yeah … you care about.
- 23:15Brandan: Bobo's been out though.
- 23:16He…
- 23:17I- I think he's dealing with an injury, but I think that's what's- Like he
- 23:20Adam: just got paid, so it's not like he's in danger of
- 23:22Brandan: getting cut.
- 23:22I…
- 23:22Oh, yeah, I'm not worried about Bobo.
- 23:24Yeah.
- 23:24It's, it's just that I think that's what's allowed Henderson
- 23:26to kind of step up a little bit.
- 23:27Clinton: It's, it's, it's a…
- 23:28I mean, you know, it's a ridiculously deep wide receiver corps.
- 23:31And talk about the Seahawks being slept on and all that stuff, and, and part of
- 23:34it's like it's true, because we're, you know, "Oh, it's the fifth best team in
- 23:38power rankings and 10th best defense."
- 23:40Like okay, I, I guess.
- 23:42I mean, I think we won the Super Bowl and beat the Rams, you know,
- 23:44uh, twice down the stretch, but okay.
- 23:46Um- But the wide receiver group, yes, we have the stub with JSN, and you have
- 23:51the veteran with Kupp, but it's, it's…
- 23:53It is very, very, I think, deep and talented.
- 23:56Like, there are teams out there, like let's look at the 49ers, who
- 23:59lose Pearsall and wish him luck, but, uh, dude can't stay healthy.
- 24:02It sucks.
- 24:03But they lo- they lose Pearsall, and they go get 30-year-old Deebo, who's
- 24:07the horizontal king at this point.
- 24:09He's fine, but they're not deep.
- 24:13They're not deep at all.
- 24:14And I'm not cheering or hoping for any sort of injury, but the ability
- 24:19to sustain injury and then have dudes right behind that I think are
- 24:24starters in, in other organizations, uh, we are, we have a, the linebacking
- 24:29corps, our wide receiver corps.
- 24:31Adam, for me, are two spots where I'm like, "Damn, we're pretty deep."
- 24:34We could take, you know, the old He-Man, the, uh, the, the body armor He-Man when
- 24:38he takes a couple of chinks in his armor.
- 24:40I don't want them, but it's football.
- 24:42It happens.
- 24:43I think we're really deep in those spots particularly.
- 24:45Brandan: Clinton, I, I wish you could have seen Adam's reaction,
- 24:48uh, when you called Deebo fine.
- 24:50Because, uh, he made this face like you were still overrating Deebo Samuel.
- 24:55Clinton: Oh, yeah.
- 24:55I said fine.
- 24:56I didn't say good, uh, Adam.
- 24:57I d- uh, I didn't say good.
- 24:59I said, "Yeah,
- 24:59Brandan: he's fine."
- 24:59Oh, no, but fine was, like, too much for Adam.
- 25:02Yeah.
- 25:02He was like, "Really?
- 25:02Is he
- 25:02Clinton: fine?"
- 25:04Adam: I mean, yeah.
- 25:04I mean, that face was, "Are we sure?"
- 25:07Like, like, if…
- 25:08'Cause I equivocate, uh, fine and good as, like, kind of, uh,
- 25:12you know, one next to the other.
- 25:15I would say that he's a roster spot.
- 25:17Mm-hmm.
- 25:17Like, that's, that's where he is in his career right now.
- 25:20When Brandon and I recorded Ram's, uh, preview yesterday, uh, I
- 25:25asked, uh, Brandon a question.
- 25:26I'll ask you the same, Clinton.
- 25:27Um, how many plays do you remember of Deebo Samuel in Washington last year?
- 25:33Clinton: No, uh, there was like one, a couple early.
- 25:35He had a couple touchdowns early.
- 25:36Oh, even
- 25:37Adam: one?
- 25:37But
- 25:37Clinton: like, uh, but plays, I, I don't.
- 25:39I don't remember him, like bouncing around like a, like a ping pong
- 25:43ball like he did as an early 49er, like super tough to tackle.
- 25:46You know, d- no, that, that was not it.
- 25:49Or being like super dynamic after the catch.
- 25:52No, it just, no.
- 25:54They'd scheme him open, throw the ball really short.
- 25:56He would stumble for a few yards and the next play would happen.
- 25:59That's it.
- 26:00That's what I saw.
- 26:01Adam: Yeah.
- 26:02He's, uh, he's closer to washed than he is fine.
- 26:05That's where, that's where I'd put him at this point.
- 26:07Brandan: Yeah.
- 26:08Yeah, washed seems appropriate.
- 26:10Uh, Whistlejacket in chat saying, "Can't wait to see the Minotaur's
- 26:13hot pants up close on Hard
- 26:16Adam: Knocks."
- 26:16Ooh.
- 26:17Brandan: Yeah.
- 26:17W- I, Lisa was at training camp recently, and I, I feel like all she did was text
- 26:22me pictures of, uh, Derek, uh, uh, Derek in his pants, so, uh, I- Derek in- I
- 26:27Adam: love how you say that like you weren't enjoying it.
- 26:30Like I, I, I
- 26:32Brandan: think you, I think you were into it.
- 26:32She, Lisa knows what I like.
- 26:33Yeah.
- 26:33Or what did I say?
- 26:34Clinton: Could only, could only pinch in on the, the, on the
- 26:36phone so much, Brandon, you
- 26:37Brandan: know?
- 26:37Clinton: Yeah.
- 26:37Like geez, get a little closer.
- 26:38Get a better zoom.
- 26:38Brandan: Derek, more pants shots.
- 26:40More please.
- 26:41Uh, w- what else are you guys looking for on Hard Knocks?
- 26:44'Cause one of the things, uh, like Adam, you know, I've been pounding
- 26:48the table wondering about when this Devon Witherspoon deal's gonna happen.
- 26:51I feel like it should've happened by now.
- 26:53I want it to happen.
- 26:54Why hasn't he been signed yet?
- 26:55And I've finally come up, I, I've, I've come up with some hopium that, uh- Hmm
- 27:00I think will explain it all away for me.
- 27:02And that is that, uh, they're waiting for the episode to air where Devon Witherspoon
- 27:08is signing his contract with the Seahawks so he can break the news that he's
- 27:12back with the Seahawks on Hard Knocks.
- 27:15Adam: Well, h- being somebody who's never watched an episode of Hard Knocks
- 27:19in my entire life, not one, uh, is that something that they would do?
- 27:22Like, is that, is that like even in range?
- 27:24Brandan: I have no idea.
- 27:24No, I, I haven't watched it a lot either, but, uh-
- 27:26Adam: Yeah
- 27:26… Brandan: I, I, that's just what I want to happen.
- 27:28Adam: I hear you.
- 27:29But, you know, we talked about this a bit yesterday as well, but like, uh, what
- 27:34percent chance in your heart, Brandon, 'cause I didn't ask it like this to
- 27:38you, that you feel Devon Witherspoon does not get re-signed by the Seahawks?
- 27:45Brandan: Oh, it's going to happen.
- 27:47And if-
- 27:47Adam: Okay, so it's 0%, right?
- 27:500%.
- 27:50Okay, then don't worry about the timing, bro.
- 27:52Like, it doesn't matter to you.
- 27:53Devon Witherspoon's gonna get his money.
- 27:54He's gonna be on the team.
- 27:55He's gonna be an F, the play up kinda guy.
- 27:58He's gonna be a heartbeat guy for this team.
- 28:00Like, dude, stop worrying about it.
- 28:01Brandan: This is like Christmas.
- 28:02When do you want it to be Christmas?
- 28:03I want it to be now.
- 28:04I wanna open my presents now.
- 28:06I don't wanna wait.
- 28:08Adam: But see, the thing is, is we already have Spoo.
- 28:10You, you don't have to worry about it.
- 28:11The present's already here.
- 28:12Clinton: Like, Denzel got his money, right?
- 28:14Denzel Ward got paid again, became the highest paid, uh, corner in the game,
- 28:18and Gonzo's still not paid, right?
- 28:20So-
- 28:21Adam: Yeah
- 28:21… Clinton: it could just be that a jousting/chicken game, some sort
- 28:25of m- medieval chicken jousting game, of course, um, where the…
- 28:28And with the same agents on both of the sides just literally playing it
- 28:33as best they possibly can to get the most amount of money from two different
- 28:37franchises with what will be the two highest paid cornerbacks in the history.
- 28:41Whoever that agent is, that dude, that is the dude in the…
- 28:44He's in the pole position, whoever that guy is.
- 28:45Yeah, the CAA
- 28:46Brandan: is winning, uh-
- 28:47Clinton: Yeah, yeah
- 28:48… Brandan: with those two players-
- 28:49Clinton: Yeah … about those big deals.
- 28:49I, I, I mean, like, it's again, my, I always…
- 28:52When Abe was gonna sign, people were like, "He's not gonna sign."
- 28:55When Derek Hall was, was, "Hey, it'd be really cool if we re-…"
- 28:58"He's not gonna sign."
- 28:59And I always try and remind people, like, y- these are young men who
- 29:03have a chance to go make- Like, in Spoon's case, 90 million, 100 million
- 29:08guaranteed by the, a stroke of a pen.
- 29:12They're going to do it because they're smart humans, and
- 29:15they play a violent sport.
- 29:17Even though we're managers of violence, boys, it's a violent sport.
- 29:20They're going to sign, and they're going to make money with their money.
- 29:23These are smart people.
- 29:24So, uh, you know, it'll happen, but I want…
- 29:26I, uh, Brandon, I'm also with you.
- 29:28I want my cake and I want it now.
- 29:30I want Spoon locked up with a big ribbon, uh, Griswold style for us, Brandon.
- 29:36Brandan: All right.
- 29:36Well, the next, uh, other than Derek Hall in his hot pants- Uh, I will put, um,
- 29:42shadow boxing with Derek Hall on there, because, uh, apparently we've heard
- 29:46of this, this idea that the defense, they do these shadow boxing things.
- 29:51Yeah.
- 29:51I actually wanna see it, and it sounds like it's something that
- 29:53they're going to feature on Hard Knocks, and we, we hopefully get
- 29:57to see Derek Hall and Riley Mills.
- 29:59Um, 'cause I, again, I- I have an idea of what I think it is.
- 30:03I want to see it in action.
- 30:04Adam: Well, you're not gonna see it because they do it in
- 30:06the shadows so you can't see it.
- 30:07That's the entire point.
- 30:08I don't think that's
- 30:08Brandan: what that means.
- 30:09Adam: They…
- 30:09Well, I…
- 30:10You, you don't even know what it is.
- 30:12Clinton: They did- How
- 30:12Adam: can you
- 30:13Clinton: say that?
- 30:13They did this during the, um, during the run-up to, to the Super Bowl.
- 30:16Yeah.
- 30:16They did some shadow boxing on the stage, and it was, I- I think
- 30:18it was Leo or somebody else.
- 30:20And yeah, I just, I, I see it, I understand it, but the whole thing
- 30:25is like you gotta kinda like trust the other dude that, you know, they
- 30:29gotta make a move, like, while you're making a move, and you can't make
- 30:31the move before you make the move.
- 30:32It's, it's a little bit…
- 30:33I, I don't, I don't love shadow boxing, guys.
- 30:35I think I know what it is and I, I'm not the biggest…
- 30:37I, I think it's too manipulatable.
- 30:40I, I'm not a fan.
- 30:40Now, chess, on the other hand, I think that's why Bobo and Drake Thomas have
- 30:45a legit tr- uh, chess rivalry going.
- 30:48Now, that's, that's a real game of wit and, uh, and strategy.
- 30:52I love a game of chess.
- 30:54Adam: So my theory of exactly what shadow boxing is, or at least in the context
- 30:58of the way the Seahawks are doing it, is just a manly way to say play fight.
- 31:02That, that's it.
- 31:03Like, they're just play fighting, right?
- 31:05Clinton: Yeah.
- 31:05Yeah.
- 31:05Yeah.
- 31:06Adam: All right.
- 31:07Good enough.
- 31:07That's
- 31:07Clinton: basically it.
- 31:08Adam: Yeah.
- 31:09Uh, I think a storyline that intrigues me a lot more than, uh, guys punching
- 31:13air is, uh, the idea of Byron Murphy, uh, in his continued ascension in just kind
- 31:19of what you're hearing out of camp and the way things are going for him in…
- 31:24Look, it, it does seem as if he is on the trajectory to,
- 31:29not someday, like this year-
- 31:31Clinton: Mm-hmm
- 31:32… Adam: be the best defensive tackle in football and what that would mean
- 31:36to leveling up this defense another level, especially when you've got Riley
- 31:41Mills, who sounds like he's having a hell of a training camp right beside
- 31:44him as well, along with all of the other studs that we know that we have.
- 31:47So I think that's something that excites me in a way that, uh, I can't wait to see.
- 31:52Brandan: Yeah, if you listen to Gray Zabel, uh, it sounds like he's already
- 31:55tired of going up against Byron Murphy every day because, and having to
- 31:58deal with, uh, uh, his talent and…
- 32:02Not that he's tired of it.
- 32:03He's- it, it just…
- 32:05Gray is one of the coolest dudes to listen to talk in the press
- 32:08conferences, and, uh, I enjoy that.
- 32:10Uh, I also saw CBS Sports has Byron Murphy ranked number six among interior
- 32:15defensive linemen, just a couple spots behind Leonard Williams, which it
- 32:19seems low for both those guys, but, uh, having two interior defenders on
- 32:23the, in the top 10 is pretty strong.
- 32:26So yeah- Mm … I, I'm with you, Adam.
- 32:27I, I want to see me some Byron Murphy.
- 32:29Um, there on Hard Knocks as well.
- 32:31Clinton: Yeah.
- 32:32It, it's gonna be very…
- 32:34It's year three, and it wasn't like…
- 32:36It's not like, oh, it's year three and we have to wait to see what he becomes.
- 32:39We, we saw it.
- 32:41We saw, you know, y- his sophomore year, year two, he became an absolute monster.
- 32:45He was very good in year one.
- 32:46Sometimes you had to, like, go, you know, un- under the covers a bit, to be like,
- 32:50oh, w- was he really successful there?
- 32:51Oh yeah, he's getting double-teamed, he's on one knee taking on two dudes
- 32:55and, you know, Ernest Jones is able to get a, a, a, a tackle, uh, for
- 32:58one yard because he's doing his job.
- 33:00He was more pronounced last year.
- 33:02And it, it's, it seems natural that in year three, guys, he might
- 33:08take that step forward again.
- 33:10And you look at, like, uh, a- uh, Brandon, I wonder who was ranked above.
- 33:14You said Leo, and I'm assuming Jalen Carter is also in that top five
- 33:19for sure also, uh, the other dudes who were there w- with Murphy, six.
- 33:24I don't know that there's a better, I don't know there's a better
- 33:28defensive, like how many more better defense tackles are there?
- 33:30Like, who else is on that list if you, if you happen to have it up?
- 33:33Brandan: Uh, well- Vita Vea?
- 33:35Uh, I don't think Vea was…
- 33:37He was on the bottom, and uh, it was uh, the, the interior defender
- 33:41from the Titans, um- The big boy … I think he was number one.
- 33:44Um, and then, you know, Jalen- Oh, Jeffrey
- 33:46Adam: Simmons,
- 33:47Brandan: yeah … Jeffrey Simmons was number one.
- 33:47He's a, he's a
- 33:48Adam: monster.
- 33:48Very good.
- 33:49Yeah.
- 33:49Brandan: Um- He's been good for a long time.
- 33:50And then the other, uh, interior defender from the Eagles I think
- 33:54was somewhere in the top 10.
- 33:55I don't have it memorized, so- I got you, I got you.
- 33:57Yeah, that's- I just, uh, I knew where our Seahawks were.
- 34:00Clinton: It's, I know it's all subjective.
- 34:01I understand all that.
- 34:02I-
- 34:02Brandan: And I knew who was number one.
- 34:03Clinton: Yeah, I think- I mean, Dexter
- 34:04Adam: Lawrence has to be in
- 34:05Clinton: there.
- 34:05Yeah, I was gonna say he's prob- probably up there as well.
- 34:08It's, it's, it's ascension, it's uh, also like he's surrounding, Adam,
- 34:12you were hinting at it with Riley Mills and Leo and Lawrence and Nwosu,
- 34:17and it is a very powerhouse line.
- 34:19Um, this to me, and it's one of those things where, you know, Byron
- 34:24Murphy has not gotten the fanfare, not nearly the fanfare Jalen Carter's
- 34:29gotten in terms of like Pro Bowls and All-Pros and all that stuff.
- 34:33And it seems to me that, Adam, this would be the year that it's like the,
- 34:38the, the league-wide after a Super Bowl opens up and goes, "Oh my God,
- 34:43this, this guy is an absolute…
- 34:45He, he's the next DT," like the best one in the league for the next,
- 34:49whatever, six years after this year.
- 34:51It seems he's right on that kind of cusp of like absolute stardom
- 34:56in the middle of the field.
- 34:57Adam: Yeah, absolutely.
- 34:58I think he's gonna start to be talked about in Aaron Donald-type- Mm … uh,
- 35:03conversations here, uh, beginning this year, and then certainly into year four.
- 35:08Clinton: That'd
- 35:08Adam: be sick.
- 35:08But y- really what I've noticed in terms of the talk, you know, around
- 35:14the media, is that the guys that are kinda general sports guys, like
- 35:18they'll talk about Jalen Carter and talk about how great that guy is- Yeah
- 35:22who takes plays off and is- Hmm … you know, kind of a, a, a knucklehead.
- 35:26Uh, and they really don't understand what's happening with Byron Murphy.
- 35:30But then when you listen to guys who are NFL-centric, right?
- 35:34Hmm.
- 35:34Like the Pelisseros of the world and, you know, guys of that ilk, um, they hol-
- 35:39they already hold Byron Murphy up there.
- 35:41Clinton: Hmm.
- 35:41Adam: And yeah, I think this is the year that he truly breaks out.
- 35:45And listen to his, uh, goals for this year, you know, double digit
- 35:49sacks, he wants to be All-Pro.
- 35:51Like, not at the expense of the team or anything, like those things will
- 35:53take care of themselves if he just does his job, uh, no doubt about it.
- 35:57But- He knows, he knows, like, on the inside.
- 36:01He's like, "I've got that ability in me."
- 36:03And man, is it…
- 36:04I- to me personally, as a football fan, there is nothing more exciting
- 36:08than having super-duper stars in the middle of your trenches.
- 36:12Mm.
- 36:12Right?
- 36:13And that's exactly what Byron Murphy is.
- 36:15And I've seen Rick, uh, in the chat here talking about the offensive
- 36:20line, and I think this is probably the other biggest story of camp, to
- 36:23be honest, is just the continuity there and how much they're improving.
- 36:28Listen to Leo Williams talk about, uh, the way the offensive line has been playing
- 36:32so far in training camp, and you get a sense of just how important it is that
- 36:37these five dudes are back together again.
- 36:40Brandan: Yeah, it, it's really exciting that the, the offensive
- 36:43line is back together going up against this defensive line.
- 36:46Gonna make them sharper as well.
- 36:49Uh, Josh DeHooman in chat saying, "The Hawks had interest
- 36:51in both Crosby and Clowney.
- 36:52Makes me wonder if Mike is wondering if the younger pass
- 36:55rushers need more time to develop.
- 36:57I'll be watching the young pass rushers on Saturday."
- 37:00Yeah, looking forward to, to hearing your report coming out of that, Josh.
- 37:03Yeah.
- 37:04I, I think we're gonna try and have you on the show.
- 37:06Uh, one news development with regard to Clowney, though.
- 37:09He is going back to Houston, so- Oh, okay … uh, I, I know there was
- 37:13some interest among Seahawks fans- Mm … that, uh, maybe an addition there.
- 37:17I, I feel like we're, we're set, guys.
- 37:19Like, Valor- Yeah … Jr.
- 37:21is out there, and we, we have a lot of depth.
- 37:24I, I f- I, I don't know if I see us signing a- anybody else unless there's
- 37:30some kind of injury that would require you to go out and, and make an addition.
- 37:36Clinton: I, I just feel the most NFL people are still so gaga over
- 37:40the idea that you have to have your 15-sack guy, not that Clowney
- 37:44is that or really ever was that.
- 37:46Uh, but he got to double digits with Mike, right?
- 37:48And had his best seasons.
- 37:50But people are still so centric on this idea that you have to have a
- 37:53Myles Garrett to win Super Bowls, but Myles Garrett's never won a Super Bowl.
- 37:56It just…
- 37:56And now he's on the Rams, and he's not gonna win one this
- 37:58year either, I don't think.
- 38:00But Brandon, to your point, like, we, we got our starting four, but
- 38:04then we got a good five, a good six, and there's dudes like a Jamie
- 38:08Sheriff who just gets accolades.
- 38:11Like, like, hey, he…
- 38:12Like, if he had, if there was a clearer path, he might be a pretty disruptive
- 38:16edge guy on other, again, other teams.
- 38:20So I'm actually…
- 38:21Look, I think Clowney's a pretty good player.
- 38:24In the NFL, this isn't gonna r- you put him in, it's like you know
- 38:27what you're getting with Clowney.
- 38:27He's solid.
- 38:28I get it.
- 38:29But I'm also okay with it.
- 38:30I'm also okay with the idea that our fives and our sixes are gonna get a bit
- 38:35more because we didn't bring in Clowney, and I'm confident in the depth there.
- 38:41I'd like to see those dudes who are year two, year three
- 38:43guys get a few more chances.
- 38:46If that comes at the, you know, uh, the, the deficit of not having Clowney,
- 38:50for me, Brandon, it's like, so be it.
- 38:51I'm okay.
- 38:52I'm fine.
- 38:53Brandan: Okay.
- 38:53So we've talked a- about the depth on the defensive line.
- 38:56We've talked about the, the offensive line depth as well, especially the continuity,
- 39:02and, uh, there's some intriguing battles, I think, at depth there too.
- 39:06But, uh, one place where I, I look at some of the practice reports, and I have some
- 39:11concerns about depth, it's at cornerback, because we have Devin Witherspoon, we
- 39:16have Josh Jobe, and then I see that, um, with Julian Love sidelined due to dealing
- 39:22with some minor injuries, it sounds like.
- 39:24But Nehemiah Pritchett leading the cornerback three battle, and if he's
- 39:30going to be taking the s- the similar number of snaps that Riq Woolen left
- 39:34behind, is, is that gonna be a concern?
- 39:37Is it gonna be a problem?
- 39:39Adam: Well, I'll ask you a quick question here, Brandon.
- 39:42Um, if Mike Macdonald has, uh, Pritchett as leading the third quarterback,
- 39:48uh, battle, uh, do you think he's probably right about that or wrong?
- 39:52Brandan: Well,
- 39:53Adam: I do-
- 39:53Brandan: Obvious- I, I have a lot of trust for Mike.
- 39:55Okay.
- 39:55I, I guess where I, I then try and slot it in my mind too, because especially Nick
- 40:00Emmanwori out, uh, with injury and I, I think that the expectation that he'll be
- 40:07b- back week one, but, uh, Mike doesn't wanna talk about the fact that he might
- 40:12be back on week one, because he just doesn't wanna give up that information.
- 40:16I, I do think that if Pritchett were somehow, it to be a problem, then I
- 40:23think based on what we're hearing out of camp, is that, you know, we probably
- 40:27see some, uh, some Bell in there maybe filling in, 'cause a- apparently
- 40:33De'Anthony Bell having a good camp.
- 40:34And so maybe you just see more Spoon outside along with Joe outside, and
- 40:38you have other guys in the middle kind of taking over, maybe, uh, Bug Clark.
- 40:42It, you start seeing him play a little bit more too and, uh, and
- 40:46taking on some additional roles.
- 40:48So, uh, they have a lot of depth, I think, within the secondary,
- 40:52just maybe not at the corner spot.
- 40:54Adam: Well, also too, we've been hearing out of camp that
- 40:56Dansby's been having a nice camp.
- 40:58Uh, you know, one of the p- and then one of the other later, like, undrafted
- 41:01guys or something like that, uh, has been playing fairly well also.
- 41:06And there's always that kinda surprise guy from the bottom of
- 41:10the roster, and you need a path to be that surprise guy, right?
- 41:14And that's one of the few positions on the team that there's a legitimate
- 41:18path to being an, uh, impact player.
- 41:21So, um, if you do have Pritchett concerns, that's fine.
- 41:24I mean, I, I thought he did okay when he played, uh, came in and
- 41:27played a little bit last year.
- 41:29And as you mentioned, you know, Bell playing Emmanwori's role,
- 41:32and then having the extra depth there with Okoda and Bug Clark.
- 41:35They'll be able to move them around a little bit, maybe
- 41:36do some three safety stuff.
- 41:38I think there's a lot of ways that a extremely creative coach in his, just
- 41:42scratching the surface of his prime, can figure out how to work around one
- 41:48semi-deficiency, if it even becomes that.
- 41:52Clinton: I, I…
- 41:53Look, I think m- from my…
- 41:55My take is, Brandon, I think you're laying out a fair point, right?
- 41:58Like, hey, we're talking about how deep this team is acro-
- 42:02pretty much across the board.
- 42:03It's a very deep roster.
- 42:04There's not many teams that roll out 53 like this, or the ready squad to 70.
- 42:09There's just not.
- 42:10They don't, they, they do not exist in the current form of the NFL.
- 42:13We're very lucky in that way.
- 42:14And I think you're right that that is by far not just the thinnest, but it's got
- 42:19the, it's got the chances of, like…
- 42:21It als- it's also corner, where, like, those dudes can get exposed in a game.
- 42:26Look back at the Tampa game last year.
- 42:28You know, the Tampa game, a couple, couple of dudes go down, when we had Wreck and
- 42:31others, and Baker, I mean, yes, Baker was as hot as could be at that time, MVP
- 42:37Baker at that point, Nabuka going crazy.
- 42:39But we lose a couple of dudes, and we were exposed on that day.
- 42:44We take a late lead, and they march right down the field and score again.
- 42:47It was just like a sieve, right?
- 42:49Um, so I feel you, because it's not only just the, hey, it, it is a little thinner
- 42:53there, but it's a position in the NFL where when you play good quarterbacks
- 42:57with, with at least pretty good offensive coordinators, or very good ones,
- 43:01they, they can take advantage of that.
- 43:03And compared to last year, in my estimation, I think we play a, a litany of
- 43:08better quarterbacks than we did last year.
- 43:10Just in general.
- 43:11It's a nu- it's a step or two, maybe a step and a half up of consistently
- 43:15better quarterbacks m- we're probably gonna face, barring injury.
- 43:19So Brandon, I'm a little bit more towards you on this one, that I'm a
- 43:22little bit like, "I don't love it."
- 43:24I don't love that piece yet.
- 43:26Adam: Yeah.
- 43:26Well, I also remember Brandon last year wringing his hands endlessly
- 43:30about the linebacker corps, and how there was no depth there.
- 43:32How'd that turn out, right?
- 43:33You make it
- 43:34Brandan: sound like that was just me.
- 43:36Adam: Well, it was amongst us anyways.
- 43:38Like, uh, you know, I…
- 43:39there may have been other 12s out there that had s- similar concerns.
- 43:42That's fine.
- 43:42Well, I, I'm
- 43:42Clinton: a Drake Thomas truther, guys, so you know it
- 43:45Brandan: wasn't me.
- 43:45Yeah, well, we
- 43:45Clinton: know it
- 43:46Adam: wasn't me.
- 43:46Yeah.
- 43:47Uh, so, I, I…
- 43:48look, I, I feel like having hugely concerned about- Good.
- 43:52Brandan: If it's on me then to worry about where we have the least depth, and
- 43:55linebacker was where it was last year, and it, it turned out we were awesome- Was it?
- 43:59at linebacker, then, uh-
- 44:00Adam: Yeah, okay.
- 44:01Yeah
- 44:01… Brandan: uh, then, uh, I, I hope that we're equally as awesome at corner
- 44:05then, and Nehemiah Pritchett comes in and is even better than Riq Woolen.
- 44:09Adam: Well, all we have to go off of his track record, right?
- 44:12And look at what Mike had done last year, even, like, bringing
- 44:16in Kendrick for a while, and having him play at a high level.
- 44:18Sure.
- 44:19I,
- 44:19Brandan: I, I just- And Ben Agony is another guy that they have- Yep … as
- 44:22a depth piece too- Mm-hmm … that they brought in and, and he…
- 44:25I, I guess I even trust a veteran.
- 44:27I, I…
- 44:27maybe it's just my bias toward Nehemiah Pritchett from what I've seen in the past
- 44:31and, and maybe he comes out and he's done a lot of work this off-season, and, and
- 44:34he has earned that number three role.
- 44:36It just, it, it's hard for me 'cause I need to see these things.
- 44:40Adam: Well, also too, like, what's the sample size for Pritchett on the field?
- 44:45Brandan: Not much.
- 44:45Adam: Yeah.
- 44:46Like, uh, zero concl- conclusions made.
- 44:48Like, that's the way I look at it.
- 44:50Not enough data.
- 44:50I, I've made some
- 44:51Brandan: conclusions based
- 44:53Clinton: on what I've seen.
- 44:54I, I hear it, yeah.
- 44:54Well, year one when he was on was bad, right?
- 44:55It was bad.
- 44:56Year two, when he was on, was markedly better, and I think Brandon's point is
- 45:01like, but was it, was it, hey, you're an NFL starter or a cornerback three,
- 45:06which gets a lot of, lot of play time in a Seahawks defense a lot of times
- 45:12Brandan: The snail in chat.
- 45:12I think we have the least depth at punter.
- 45:14Y- we, I mean, when you have an Aussie punter, you don't need depth.
- 45:17That's, uh, just, uh, you know, um, yeah.
- 45:20Adam: Yeah, Aussies don't get hurt.
- 45:22Exactly.
- 45:22They're indestructible.
- 45:23Clinton: Knock on all the wood with that one.
- 45:25One other piece of the punter, hey, when w- when we, you know, trash
- 45:29Madden for their stupid d- defensive take, they did put Dixon as, Dixon as
- 45:34the number one punter in the game of Madden, so hey, they got- they got- But
- 45:37Adam: that doesn't make up for it
- 45:38Clinton: I agree, but they got something right at least.
- 45:41I agree.
- 45:41They still gotta get punished for their stupid defense take.
- 45:44Adam: Yeah.
- 45:45Well- That's literally one of the worst takes I've heard this entire off-season
- 45:48Clinton: 10.
- 45:49Dude, they have, they have the Lions above them,
- 45:50Adam: and- They have the [bleep] Niners in front of us Like, wait, they lost
- 45:53their DC, like a good DC, brought in a delightfully mid DC to replace him, and
- 45:59we all know what happens to the Niners defense when they don't have Saleh.
- 46:02Mm.
- 46:02Like, it's not nearly as good.
- 46:04They're bringing back, uh, ancient Nick Bosa on his fifth
- 46:07ACL or 10th ACL, whatever it is.
- 46:10Fred Warner blew up his entire lower body, and he's gonna be
- 46:13Fred Warner again, for sure.
- 46:15Okay.
- 46:16You bring back Dre Greenlaw, who the Broncos couldn't wait to
- 46:19get rid of- Mm … and you have a lesser defensive coordinator.
- 46:22You're still relying on a bunch of young dudes, and they're better than
- 46:26this defense that literally was the engine that drove the Seahawks to
- 46:30winning their second championship.
- 46:33What [bleep] crack are they smoking in Madden?
- 46:37That's what I wanna know.
- 46:38Brandan: That's a, a very good question, and one of those questions
- 46:41that I think will go unanswered.
- 46:42Shane Turner Acoustic, checking in at 2:99 Australian.
- 46:46Morning legends, nice to wake up to you guys.
- 46:48Yeah, appreciate you waking up and tuning in to us, Shane.
- 46:51And, uh- Awesome … yeah, I- I've…
- 46:53If there's one thing that they could address on Hard Knocks, it would be, I, I
- 46:57wanna see all the defenders asked about…
- 47:00'Cause they already seem to have a chip on their shoulder about the stupid Rams.
- 47:03Uh, and if, if they can add to the chip on the shoulder but with Madden
- 47:07rankings, that probably matters to a lot of those guys even more.
- 47:11Clinton: I mean, they grew up a certain- th- like, these are, these
- 47:13are footballers who grew up playing football, who grew up playing Madden.
- 47:17It, I, I think it actually does matter.
- 47:19Like, they, they get, they get the fizz, as Adam would say, like,
- 47:23when they get their 99 rankings or they're ranked below somebody.
- 47:26So as a unit, put it on the, put it on the billboard, guys.
- 47:30I think it actually might be a little bit billboard material out there
- 47:33'cause they're competitors, man.
- 47:35It's just, it's just funny.
- 47:37You know, it's, it's…
- 47:38You know, when you see a little bit of disrespect once or twice and you
- 47:42brush it off, "Oh, whatever, who cares?
- 47:43We won, we won."
- 47:44But as the, as the season, the, the off-season just rolls on, and the next
- 47:49thing comes out, and the next thing comes out, and then you get, uh, who
- 47:52was the, who was the NFL analyst?
- 47:53Bucky, Bucky Brooks?
- 47:55Am I- Yeah … do I have that right?
- 47:56Adam: I love Bucky.
- 47:56Clinton: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:57Usually really good.
- 47:58How's he been, like seven and 10?
- 47:59And then other analysts, "Well, let's not forget Sam Darnold turns…"
- 48:03And I understand that.
- 48:04We all understand Sam turned the ball over a bit last year,
- 48:06or a good amount last year.
- 48:08But it's just this, it's like this consistent drumming, but Adam, I
- 48:13think you said it earlier, dude.
- 48:15It's like it's those we cover the entire NFL and we're,
- 48:20you know, like a, a T shaped.
- 48:22We don't go a, a, an inch further down than the, the soil.
- 48:25We don't go deep on these teams, so we have to have hot takes across 32 teams.
- 48:30So this is the hot take this year that Seattle really, really wasn't, really,
- 48:34really, really wasn't that good.
- 48:35Although they won 14 freaking games, went 3-0, had no turnovers in the playoffs,
- 48:40the only team to ever do that, and they beat the, the Rams twice down the stretch,
- 48:45once in the NFC championship game.
- 48:47But let's ignore all of that- Mm … and let's just go an inch down
- 48:51and say they really weren't that good.
- 48:53But meanwhile, Brandon, the Niners, they're so back because they're seemingly
- 48:58maybe healthy after major knee injuries.
- 49:01It's a, it's, it's getting to me, a- as you guys can see.
- 49:05It's like, it's…
- 49:05I- I'm usually kinda like, let this roll like water.
- 49:08This is kinda getting to me, but I'm, I'm kind of liking it.
- 49:11I don't know about you guys.
- 49:12I'm kinda like starting to absorb to be like, "F you."
- 49:15Like, I can't wait to show you again that we're gonna
- 49:18demoralize teams again, and I like
- 49:20Brandan: that.
- 49:20Yeah.
- 49:20We, we ignored list season for a while in the off season.
- 49:23But now- Woo
- 49:24now a list season in the pre-season, it's getting to us.
- 49:28Clinton: Yes.
- 49:28Yes, guys.
- 49:28Adam: I'm not gonna lie, I'm legit pissed.
- 49:31Like, I, I'm liter- I probably take this more personal than the
- 49:34Brandan: players do.
- 49:34Adam has never played a single snap of Madden, and he's the
- 49:36most- … upset about this.
- 49:38Adam: Uh- Untrue.
- 49:39Untrue.
- 49:39I played the Madden where Shaun Alexander was on the cover for, uh, a while.
- 49:43I, uh-
- 49:43Brandan: Yeah, 2006 Madden.
- 49:45That was 20 years ago, buddy.
- 49:47Adam: I…
- 49:47Look, I, I didn't say it was recent.
- 49:49You said not one snap, and that was slander, and I will not have it.
- 49:52Uh, but you know what's interesting, Clinton, is you're like, hey,
- 49:55these guys, these kind of general sportscasters and- Yeah … you
- 49:58know, go one inch down, right- Yeah
- 50:00and cover a 10,000 acre pond that's an inch deep.
- 50:03And it's like, well, okay, if that's the case, then why isn't- The
- 50:08narrative from those guys, "Seahawks won the Super Bowl, they're really
- 50:12good, they're the team to beat."
- 50:13Clinton: Good, good question.
- 50:14' Adam: Cause that's, like, the inch-deep take, right?
- 50:16Like, the…
- 50:17If you're just gonna be like, "Ah, if I'm just covering the league,"
- 50:20and that sort of thing, like, it…
- 50:21that's the lowest hanging fruit.
- 50:23Yeah.
- 50:23Brandan: Yeah.
- 50:24They, they are just fine disrespecting us as Seahawks fans.
- 50:27They, they know that, uh, um, they, they do that all the time, so we're used to it.
- 50:32So they, they can have their hot takes that way.
- 50:34It, it makes it easier.
- 50:35It's easy.
- 50:35What's a
- 50:37Adam: micro transaction?
- 50:38Is that, like, half a player?
- 50:40You know, like seven- This is
- 50:40Brandan: how Madden makes their money.
- 50:42They, they put out a, a generic game every year.
- 50:44They don't make many upgrades, but they, they downgrade it by making
- 50:48you pay actual money to upgrade your players throughout the game.
- 50:53Okay.
- 50:53And, uh, a- and that's…
- 50:56And people do it, I think, somehow.
- 50:58Adam: Look, I…
- 50:58All I know is that in 20 years in…
- 51:01when the economy's completely busted and everything, the tombstone will
- 51:04read, "Here lies the US economy.
- 51:06Everybody was subscribed to death."
- 51:08Like, from all of our [bleep] subscriptions.
- 51:11And, like, here's another one.
- 51:12You got a micro transactions in Madden to, like, throw a virtual football?
- 51:16Hey- Like, what are we doing?
- 51:17Brandan: Don't, don't forget to like and subscribe to the show, uh, by
- 51:20the way, while we're on that topic.
- 51:22Uh, Witherfork in chat saying, "2006 Madden, what was that, a board game?"
- 51:26Adam: Like…
- 51:27It was actually chiseled out on stone.
- 51:29Like- … it was pretty good.
- 51:30Yeah.
- 51:32Brandan: Ryan911 saying, "It's almost like there's a conspiracy.
- 51:35Has anyone heard from Hawk Van Dyke?"
- 51:37I, you know, I've actually heard from Hawk Van Dyke.
- 51:38I'm gonna see him in a couple weeks when I'm over in Paris.
- 51:41But, yeah, we, we may need to get his take.
- 51:43I- I'll, I'll be l- live and in person.
- 51:46I'll have to get his take on if there's some kind of conspiracy going on
- 51:49right now with, uh, with the Seahawks.
- 51:51Rick Darcy in chat saying, "Better point differential than 2013.
- 51:54LOB, who is number three this century, two Hawks team with the
- 51:58best point differential ever.
- 51:59Hawks are awesome."
- 52:00Yeah, that was one of the things- Yeah … that surprised me with Warren Sharp and,
- 52:04and hi- because he looked at all of the, the actual analytics from last year,
- 52:09and he, you know, he's nerdy that way.
- 52:11Yeah.
- 52:12And it's one of the best, like, DVOA teams- Yes … in the history of the
- 52:16NFL, and yet he's, he's saying that we aren't gonna make the playoffs.
- 52:19And I, I d- that's, those are the ones that I really don't understand.
- 52:24Okay.
- 52:24For, for guys who are analyzing the league and, and just wanna
- 52:27have a take, that's one thing.
- 52:28But for the, the guys that get into the numbers, like, where,
- 52:31where do you get the, um…
- 52:34I- if you're basing it off of predictions, and the likelihood, and all these…
- 52:41Whatever they use- … how, how does that not show that we're gonna be
- 52:44back and equally as good this year?
- 52:46Clinton: Uh, the…
- 52:47Yeah.
- 52:48Look, I am not one to be like, "Oh, look, we're gonna go 15 and 2 this year, go 14
- 52:53and 3 again," 'cause that, that is very, very hard, and a lot can get in your
- 52:57way from that kind of a great season.
- 53:00But to, to predict that we're not gonna make the playoffs, like, a lot
- 53:05has to go really, really wrong for this team to not be a playoff team.
- 53:09And that's stuff I don't, I don't even wanna put into the
- 53:11ether type stuff, you know?
- 53:12It's like that kind of level of wrong for this team to not be a playoff team.
- 53:16It's just-
- 53:17Brandan: They have to move- It- … the substation from-
- 53:20Yeah … San Francisco up to Seattle.
- 53:22You know,
- 53:22Clinton: Flurry has to be a disaster.
- 53:23And…
- 53:24Yeah.
- 53:24You know, legitimately.
- 53:24He…
- 53:25Like, and we can't run the football.
- 53:27Like, if…
- 53:28And this is…
- 53:29I'm not gonna talk injuries.
- 53:30If we cannot run the football and Flurry's an absolute abject
- 53:33disaster, yes, we would be on the threshold of not making the playoffs.
- 53:38That's literally where this is, because if the defense is mainly healthy
- 53:43and they're just, they just do Mike Macdonald things, and Ian Warrior's
- 53:46healthy- I, it's, this team's going to win a, a, a, a, a number of games
- 53:53like that puts you in position to…
- 53:56They kind of…
- 53:58I don't know, guys.
- 53:58I'm not saying cruise into the playoffs, it's hard, but I hate that take.
- 54:01That take is maddening to me.
- 54:04It's just, what are you watching?
- 54:05Like, what, what stats?
- 54:07What pa- you know, what last year or two or three of evidence do you have that
- 54:13this team's not like at a playoff caliber?
- 54:16That's-
- 54:16Adam: Yeah.
- 54:17Clinton: That's wild … just, it's crazy.
- 54:18Adam: Well, and look too, y- you, you kinda laid it out right there.
- 54:21You look at a Mike Macdonald defense- Yeah … it, when he's ha- had them
- 54:25for more than half a season, right?
- 54:26Both his first half season with the Ravens and with the
- 54:29Seahawks, it took a minute, right?
- 54:31Yeah.
- 54:31Clinton: Yes.
- 54:31Adam: And then after that, what happened?
- 54:33Excellence.
- 54:34Clinton: They were freaking awesome,
- 54:34Adam: right?
- 54:34Like, excellence, right?
- 54:36So I feel like these Warren Sharp types look at this, and they have
- 54:41this unbelievable over-evaluation of Boye Mafe, you know- Yes
- 54:49Coby Bryant, and Riq Woolen.
- 54:51They act like we lost Leo Williams, Spoon, and, uh, Ernest Jones.
- 54:56Clinton: Ernest Jones.
- 54:56Yeah.
- 54:56Yeah.
- 54:56Adam: Yeah.
- 54:57And it's like, um, no.
- 54:59And not only that, but like, those guys, like- I like, I, I like all of
- 55:05those humans as human beings, right?
- 55:07So this, I'm not trying to disparage them in this way.
- 55:09They're Super Bowl champions, they brought another Super Bowl to my life.
- 55:12I, I, I don't wanna, like, put it in terms that sounds like I'm ungrateful.
- 55:16But Boye Mafe's, uh, unbelievably overrated by a
- 55:20lot of the, uh, national media.
- 55:22They act like he was our primary twitchy edge defender and there was no other
- 55:27pressure that came from anybody else.
- 55:28They act like Coby Bryant is the second coming of Ronnie Lott.
- 55:31Mm.
- 55:31And they act like Riq Woolen's a lockdown corner that doesn't have gigantic
- 55:36mental farts- … like every other game.
- 55:38Like, it's, it's crazy to think about.
- 55:40So-
- 55:40Brandan: That allowed the Rams to get back into it in the championship game.
- 55:43Yes.
- 55:44Adam: Right.
- 55:44Right.
- 55:45So, like, if those are the three p- uh, pieces that you're
- 55:48replacing, I feel like 99.8%
- 55:52confident Mike Macdonald can figure that out and make it happen, right?
- 55:56Mm-hmm.
- 55:56And have another excellent squad.
- 55:58And then the other question that they'll bring up is the Fleury
- 56:01question, and that's fair.
- 56:02Fleury is a question mark, but how big of a question mark?
- 56:06Like, if we're playing the what's more likely game, I feel like the floor,
- 56:11the most likely floor for Brian Fleury is a delightfully average offense.
- 56:17And it's, and the reason it's different than, say, somebody like Ryan Grubb,
- 56:21is Ryan Grubb had zero NFL experience.
- 56:23Ryan Grubb didn't know how to run the football.
- 56:24Ryan Grubb wanted to spread you out.
- 56:26Ryan Grubb was just a college moron.
- 56:28And, like, that's not who Brian Fleury is.
- 56:31Yeah.
- 56:31A lot of people had a ton of questions about Clint Kubiak when he came in,
- 56:35and he only had basically a season and a half of play calling experience.
- 56:39It's not like he had b- like, been around the league for 15 years.
- 56:43Oh, yeah.
- 56:43And he was so damn good, we won the Super Bowl, and now he's
- 56:46the head coach of the Raiders.
- 56:47Like, I think the floor for Brian Fleury is not a disaster.
- 56:51Right.
- 56:51Like you said, that would have to be what would happen, right?
- 56:53Clinton: I think so.
- 56:53Yeah.
- 56:54Adam: I don't, I think that's so improbable, it's hard to
- 56:57even wrap your head around.
- 56:58Now, what's the probability that he'll be excellent?
- 57:01That's unknown.
- 57:02Mm-hmm.
- 57:02That's where the question mark is, and that's okay.
- 57:04It's okay to have questions about it.
- 57:06But to act like the, there's a viable path to him being a disaster, w- as
- 57:11Warren Sharp does or some of these other guys that are kind of baking
- 57:14in this regression, is foolhardy.
- 57:17Mm.
- 57:17Like, I, I just don't understand where it comes from
- 57:20Brandan: Yeah.
- 57:20And maybe it comes from that idea of, you know, Clint improved so much over Ryan
- 57:26Grubb that it's just the, it, it's the easy analysis of well, if he improved
- 57:31that much from Ryan Grubb, it could regress then back to where it was before.
- 57:35And, uh, and, and that's, that's where that floor comes from,
- 57:39which is not a legitimate floor.
- 57:41Clinton: Yeah.
- 57:41It, it's all, it- that's exactly right.
- 57:43I think there, there's a fal- that's, I think, I think we got
- 57:45around it real nicely, guys.
- 57:46I think the narrative is this- We solved
- 57:49Brandan: it.
- 57:49Good
- 57:49Clinton: job … this, there's a false floor that actually,
- 57:52that's not actually the floor.
- 57:54And I think that's the laziness and the, the, the narrative that's out there.
- 57:58But I'm excited to prove them all wrong.
- 58:00It, it's gonna be very fun, you know, to, to prove them wrong again.
- 58:04And, um, you know, I, I, I just think, I'm very, I'm highly confident this
- 58:08year that, um, our floor I think is a very solid, very solid playoff team.
- 58:15That's the floor, and I think that's a really good place to be.
- 58:18I think, you know, I think every single team in the NFL
- 58:21would be like, "That's cool.
- 58:22Let's, I sign for that ri- you know, right now."
- 58:23I think that's our floor, guys.
- 58:24Oh, yeah.
- 58:25Adam: Yeah.
- 58:25I mean, of the NFC teams, you'd have to say we're a top two to three team
- 58:31in terms of- Yes … uh, what position you are in going into this season.
- 58:36Clinton: Yeah.
- 58:36Adam: And it's, uh, it's pretty crazy.
- 58:39It's pretty crazy that a lot of people write it off as if it's,
- 58:43uh, like- Since the Rams signed Myles Garrett, then Seahawks
- 58:48regressed by seven games this year.
- 58:50Clinton: Right.
- 58:50Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:50Like,
- 58:51Adam: what…
- 58:51I, I just, I, it just doesn't make any sense.
- 58:53Clinton: Complete zero sum nonsense.
- 58:55Like, they signed him, therefore you got this much worse.
- 58:58That's not how it works.
- 58:59That's just not how it works.
- 59:00Like- Yeah … we could also still get better.
- 59:03Like, maybe the…
- 59:03Sure, Myles Garrett, hey, he's a hell of a player.
- 59:06We're not stupid.
- 59:07We get it.
- 59:08But that doesn't mean, like, he, he wasn't on our team, guys.
- 59:11We didn't lose Myles Garrett, you know?
- 59:13Right.
- 59:14We lost Mafe, but we bring in Fowler.
- 59:16Like, you mentioned Mafe earlier, and you mentioned Kobe, you mentioned Reek,
- 59:19and in my head I went, "That's $55 million a year for those three dudes
- 59:23right now," and I think we did fine.
- 59:26I think we did maybe even better than fine to just replenish those
- 59:30guys because, like you had said, it's not Leo, it's not Byron, it's
- 59:34not Ernest, it's not Julian Love.
- 59:37Nice players, but not core.
- 59:40And- No … and, you know, the Rams getting Myles Garrett does
- 59:44not make the Seahawks worse.
- 59:46If anything, we're gonna be more fired up than ever and, you know, like
- 59:50you guys had covered, Charles Cross might just be taking care of Miles
- 59:54Garrett, and that'll be sweet to watch.
- 59:55Adam: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:56And again, if you guys didn't see that video that we did, uh, looking
- 1:00:00back at Charles Cross, uh, when we played the Browns the last time, I
- 1:00:04think it was three years ago now, two years ago now, um, turns out
- 1:00:08Charles Cross can block Myles Garrett.
- 1:00:10Like, uh, uh, 'cause he's an elite tackle.
- 1:00:12And, uh, he's only gotten better since then, but, you know, whatever.
- 1:00:15Facts schmax.
- 1:00:16So, at the end of the day, at the end of the day, Clinton, I'd wanna ask
- 1:00:19you, do you feel like, do you feel like it's more likely that we go one and two
- 1:00:28against the Rams, or we sweep the Rams?
- 1:00:31Because we were a field goal away from sweeping the Rams last year.
- 1:00:35Clinton: Okay.
- 1:00:35So I like this because one and two, you know, or, or three and O, um, we're, we're
- 1:00:41saying we're playing them in the playoffs.
- 1:00:42Like, that's, that's the, that's the math, right?
- 1:00:45It's like we're playing them- Yeah … in the playoffs at that point.
- 1:00:46So I'm, I'm, so I'm sure as [bleep] not pick- picking one and two.
- 1:00:50Like, I'm just not gonna do that.
- 1:00:51Um, I don't think we'll go O and two.
- 1:00:53One and
- 1:00:53Brandan: two is just fine as long as we
- 1:00:55Clinton: win the first two.
- 1:00:55As long as we win the right one.
- 1:00:56No, I, I hear you.
- 1:00:57Uh-
- 1:01:02What's more likely?
- 1:01:04Man-
- 1:01:05Brandan: Go, go Cope
- 1:01:05Adam: approach- Well, Cope, not the b- … and
- 1:01:05Brandan: Chet is, is
- 1:01:08Clinton: taking- Yeah, that's the most likely … option number
- 1:01:09three and going two and one.
- 1:01:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:09Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:09Yeah, right, right, yeah.
- 1:01:09Yeah.
- 1:01:09Yeah.
- 1:01:10I li- I like Cope approaches.
- 1:01:11That's probably what it is.
- 1:01:13Um, look, it was a 60-yard field goal where if we got a couple more yards
- 1:01:17with Myers, we, we win that game too, and we stunk that game on offense.
- 1:01:21I was-
- 1:01:22Adam: Eh.
- 1:01:22Clinton: That was Darnold's turd burger, right?
- 1:01:24So, uh, you know what?
- 1:01:26Three and O.
- 1:01:27More, it's more likely we sweep them, Adam.
- 1:01:29It's more likely we sweep them.
- 1:01:32Adam: I generally believe it is too.
- 1:01:33I mean, when you think about how Sam Darnold progressed against Shula-
- 1:01:38Clinton: Yes
- 1:01:39… Adam: throughout the season.
- 1:01:40And, like, it's, it's, the evidence is right in front of you.
- 1:01:43It's on film.
- 1:01:44All you have to do is look.
- 1:01:46Like, Darnold ascended last year against his number one bugaboo
- 1:01:50in- Mm-hmm … the Rams defense.
- 1:01:52Well, that tells you a lot right there.
- 1:01:54Uh, also too, Albert Breer I think has done an excellent job of
- 1:01:58trying to remind everybody, yeah, throughout the nation that it's
- 1:02:02not like this is an old ass team.
- 1:02:04Like, a lot- Mm … of the stars on this team are still ascending.
- 1:02:08I mean, that's why we had a little conversation about
- 1:02:10Byron Murphy just a minute ago.
- 1:02:12Do you think Spoons hit his ceiling?
- 1:02:15I don't know.
- 1:02:15I don't think so.
- 1:02:16Do you think even Worries has hit his ceiling?
- 1:02:19No.
- 1:02:19No.
- 1:02:20I don't even believe Leo Williams has hit his ceiling.
- 1:02:23Clinton: Well, that, that's, that's a take.
- 1:02:24I like that, Brandon.
- 1:02:25Yeah.
- 1:02:26I like, you know, a little Benjamin Button for, uh, for Leo potentially there,
- 1:02:29Brandan: Brandon.
- 1:02:29Clinton: Yeah,
- 1:02:29Brandan: that, that would be great if he hasn't hit his ceiling.
- 1:02:31Yeah.
- 1:02:31Adam: Well, no.
- 1:02:31So the…
- 1:02:32Well, here would be the argument.
- 1:02:33Uh, so as far as Leo Williams, do you, have you seen any
- 1:02:37physical fall off in his play?
- 1:02:38No.
- 1:02:39Physical.
- 1:02:39Like, just phys- No … like- No.
- 1:02:40No.
- 1:02:41No.
- 1:02:41No.
- 1:02:42And so what makes you better as a player when you've reached
- 1:02:45your peak physical ability?
- 1:02:47The mentals.
- 1:02:48Brandan: Right.
- 1:02:48Adam: And he's a smart dude, he's engaged, he talks about, uh, in his interview
- 1:02:53the other day, uh, his father-in-law is literally Ronnie Lott, and he's like,
- 1:02:57"Well, what, what do I, what do I do?"
- 1:02:59You know, "What's the best piece of advice?"
- 1:03:01He asked, um, uh, about training camp years ago about how to approach
- 1:03:06it, and Ronnie Lott said, "Treat every year as if you're a rookie."
- 1:03:09Clinton: Mm.
- 1:03:09Adam: And he's like, "So that's what I'm doing.
- 1:03:11I'm here to learn, I'm here to get better and all that."
- 1:03:13Like, there is a world in which Leo Williams does get better this next year.
- 1:03:18Yeah.
- 1:03:18Like, that's not out of the realm of possibility at all.
- 1:03:21Clinton: Well-
- 1:03:22Brandan: I, I'm here for it
- 1:03:23… Clinton: yeah, I mean, Brandon, I lo- I love Adam's what's
- 1:03:25more likely game, right?
- 1:03:26Let's play this for a second.
- 1:03:27Leo has his best year as an NFLer, which he's had some All-Pro years, but he
- 1:03:32has his best year, or he has a serious, again, barring injury, a serious fall
- 1:03:37off, or he, he pumps out his best year.
- 1:03:40Which one's more likely?
- 1:03:41Brandan: That he has his worst year or his best year?
- 1:03:43Clinton: No, not his worst year.
- 1:03:44Oh.
- 1:03:44Like, he has a serious fall off.
- 1:03:46Oh, oh.
- 1:03:46Like, he starts to have like, oh, he's getting old, and you can see it now.
- 1:03:49Brandan: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:49He, he's not having a fall off.
- 1:03:50Yeah.
- 1:03:50Clinton: Right.
- 1:03:50Brandan: That's, it's just, that's, uh, very unlikely to happen, so.
- 1:03:53Clinton: Yeah.
- 1:03:54Yeah.
- 1:03:54Brandan: Um, yeah, I, I think it is more likely that he's good,
- 1:03:57and, uh, I'm here, I'm here for it.
- 1:03:59Lemonhawk1990 in with a $5 Super Chat.
- 1:04:02You didn't know Garrett and Donald each games- Yeah.
- 1:04:04… just with them being on the field, suddenly only 14 games exist, and the
- 1:04:08other three games are auto wins for LA.
- 1:04:10Yeah.
- 1:04:11Clinton: Yeah.
- 1:04:11That's how they wanna, that's how they wanna treat it, the NFL, right?
- 1:04:13So it's, uh…
- 1:04:15Yeah, I just, I…
- 1:04:16Guys, I'm just getting more…
- 1:04:17I mean, the Niners are funny, and, and, and good, they'll get
- 1:04:21healthy, but they're still funny.
- 1:04:22You know, we still kick the crap out of them, um, when it mattered,
- 1:04:25when it mattered most twice.
- 1:04:27And- And all the love is going to the Rams.
- 1:04:30Like, this is gonna be fun.
- 1:04:32This is gonna be so much fun to be like, just upset it again.
- 1:04:35Be like, "Oh, sorry NFL, you don't get the Rams at SoFi for
- 1:04:38the Super Bowl on Valentine's Day.
- 1:04:40Sorry."
- 1:04:41Brandan: Well, we are looking for a very merry Christmas as we get to
- 1:04:45take on the Rams for the first time.
- 1:04:47We've got that game circled on our calendar even though it's,
- 1:04:50it's, uh, months and months away.
- 1:04:52But, uh, I, I'm looking for- forward to everything that happens in between
- 1:04:56as we i- maybe get to that game.
- 1:04:58And, uh, Adam, it doesn't even matter because as, uh- Mm … as
- 1:05:02folks are gonna hear, we're, they're gonna hear our preview of the LA
- 1:05:06Rams coming up in episode 504.
- 1:05:09Look for that probably tomorrow night.
- 1:05:12And, uh, we're gonna be talking Rams, Seahawks, and well, mostly Rams,
- 1:05:17because it's our Know Your Rival series.
- 1:05:19And, uh, anything you wanna say to preview that before we get on outta here, Adam?
- 1:05:23Adam: Yeah, I think there's a lot of interesting discussions to be
- 1:05:26had, because I know we're all sick of listening to people talk about
- 1:05:30the Rams, and that's because they all just give Sean McVay a blowjob.
- 1:05:35Like, where like, every time they talk about the, the Rams at this point.
- 1:05:39Um, we took a different approach, uh, because we're 12s.
- 1:05:42And I actually had a great job…
- 1:05:46I'm glad that got you, Clinton.
- 1:05:47Uh, really, uh, I think we did an excellent job of bringing a
- 1:05:51counterpoint argument to this, uh, off-season, on-paper Super Bowl
- 1:05:56championship anointment that has been proclaimed for the Los Angeles Rams.
- 1:06:01So, um, it, uh, I think is worth listening to.
- 1:06:05Uh, I had fun doing it.
- 1:06:06Brandon had some dread going into it, but I think I turned you around by
- 1:06:09Brandan: the end.
- 1:06:09I just, I, I was, uh, I've had enough Rams talk for the off-season, so I, I'm
- 1:06:14glad we got to close the book on them for at least the next four months or so.
- 1:06:19But-
- 1:06:19Adam: You know what's gonna be awesome?
- 1:06:20Is by the end of this season when we close the book on this era of
- 1:06:23Rams football- Yes … forever.
- 1:06:25Like- There you
- 1:06:25Brandan: go.
- 1:06:25Yeah, we've de- Yeah … we've done it with the Niners, now
- 1:06:27we gotta do it with the Rams
- 1:06:30Adam: 100%.
- 1:06:31Brandan: Yeah.
- 1:06:31Yep.
- 1:06:31Josh DeHooman, uh, coming in with one final super chat, 199, "Agree with Adam.
- 1:06:36Fleury at worst, top 15.
- 1:06:38Best, top 10."
- 1:06:40Uh, best, I mean top three.
- 1:06:42We're gonna, we're gonna see that from him.
- 1:06:44So- … looking forward to that.
- 1:06:46A big thanks to everyone who joined us.
- 1:06:47The chat was on fire tonight.

- 1:07:12And yeah, we'll, we'll probably be back live maybe Tuesday night after
- 1:07:16we watch some Hard Knocks maybe, guys?
- 1:07:18Ooh.

- 1:07:19Yeah, I'm in.
- 1:07:20Sure.
- 1:07:20What time's the show though?
- 1:07:21Like
- 1:07:21Brandan: 8:00, 9:00?
- 1:07:22I don't know.
- 1:07:22You're, you're probably gonna have to take a nap to, to be done by then.
- 1:07:25Clinton: Well, there is coffee.
- 1:07:26I like coffee.
- 1:07:27Adam: There you go, there you go.
- 1:07:28Well, uh, yeah, I'll be in.
- 1:07:29It'll be my first time ever watching an episode of Hard Knocks.
- 1:07:32So, uh- Probably for
- 1:07:33Brandan: a lot
- 1:07:33Adam: of us … yeah.
- 1:07:34Clinton: Yeah.
- 1:07:35So live
- 1:07:35Adam: reaction- I don't know
- 1:07:35… Clinton: to Hard Knocks.
- 1:07:36Let's book it.
- 1:07:37Adam: Yeah.
- 1:07:37Let's
- 1:07:37Clinton: do it.
- 1:07:37Adam: People seem to be excited about it.
- 1:07:38Clinton: It'll be fun.
- 1:07:39It'll be fun.
- 1:07:40It's a reason to get together and talk Seahawks, and it
- 1:07:42is the time of year, guys.
- 1:07:43It is August 1st or 2nd, I'm not sure.
- 1:07:46I don't know.
- 1:07:46It doesn't really matter.
- 1:07:47It's August, so that means we have football right here,
- 1:07:50right with us around the bend.
- 1:07:52I'm excited, boys.
- 1:07:53This is gonna be one heck of a…
- 1:07:54This next 30-day sprint to get ready, oh, man, I am now, I'm fully in.
- 1:07:59I'm just like, let's go.
- 1:08:01I'm ready to rock.
- 1:08:02I'm just in.

- 1:08:03… Adam: go.
- 1:08:03Let's go.
- 1:08:04And I think with
- 1:08:05Brandan: that-
- 1:08:06Adam: There's only one thing left to say … go Hawks.
- 1:08:09Go Hawks.
