- Breaking The Meta: Hello everyone and welcome to Breaking the Meta. This is a special, super special episode, because we're having our good friend, Jasmine Thomas back is running for Senator in the wonderful state of Oklahoma. Hello, Jasmine, how are you doing? Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Good, good, good to be back. Thank you for having me again. I just love it when we get together. Breaking The Meta: Of course. Yeah, absolutely. So before we get going, when I say this is an important episode, ⁓ this is like a call to action episode. We need everyone who watches this. You'll find out why in just a second. But when you watch this, we need you to watch it all the way through. We need to share it with people. We need to get the word out because while what we're about to talk about isn't surprising in terms of this administration and stuff going on here, It's something that we need to push back on and this happening to someone who's running for a Senate position is not okay. So ⁓ Jasmine, why don't you ⁓ start with letting us know ⁓ what is going on that that's why we're talking. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Hi, for anyone who doesn't know, my name is Nekyla Jasmine Thomas, and I'm running for the US Senate seat. Formerly, it was held by Mark Wayne Mullen, but, ⁓ nothing. Yeah. We have an inside joke here saying that every time we say his name, like, furniture starts levitating. But yes, formally held by Mark Wayne Mullen in Oklahoma, and now that he's moved to DHS, he's kind of giving, it's kind of given us a little bit of leverage. Breaking The Meta: Nope, nothing's floating, we're Yep. Yep. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): ⁓ with our campaigns in moving into or moving out of the status quo and into, you new waters because we've been seeing a big shift, obviously, across the nation to people who's actually voting for more progressive candidates. ⁓ And just, you know, as he was saying is that we have been noticing a lot of issues, especially with how this administration is allowing ⁓ Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): different platforms to run and not really having that legislation over them anymore. I recently had logged into my official campaign TikTok and we all know that Oracle had bought TikTok out about what, two or three months ago or has it been the... Breaking The Meta: Yeah, couple months ago, I think is when it officially like closed. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes. And we know that we have been having some issues around that because we know that Oracle is very much so supported by, well, they support the Trump administration, but they're also supported by the Trump administration. So with that being said, we have been having some issues regarding, you know, how political candidates have been able to maneuver on social platforms because they've been silencing us a lot. They have been restricting our accounts, blocking them, banning them, And so ⁓ as I logged into my TikTok yesterday, I had noticed that had some restrictions on my account and I normally don't post anything that could constitute to ⁓ a, I don't know, a ban. Like ⁓ I don't do that's out of the norm ⁓ when comes to the official TikTok. Now, Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): If it was anywhere else, and I'm just joking. I'm joking But it just I just saw that they were telling me that I was a political account and that my political account went against guidelines and mind you There was no guidelines. I started this plot plot of the sick talk platform up back in March of last year and There were no guard rolls to how candidates could maneuver Breaking The Meta: Ha ha ha ha! Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Now they say that we can't, you know, produce ads on behalf of, you know, political candidate campaigns. ⁓ And that's always been a thing because, you we know that TikTok is full ⁓ of, ⁓ is normally full of kids ⁓ there and we don't want to manipulate people who can't even vote yet. Right. ⁓ So I think that that was a brilliant But to restrict accounts that are just basically speaking out about the atrocities that this regime is causing, I think that that's a direct threat to the First Amendment. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Yeah. And you've you've talked to other people that this kind of stuff has happened to since that happened, right? Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes, yes, yes. So I had a candidate in Kansas yesterday reach out to me and she had expressed the same sentiment that this is the same thing that's going on to her. was like, well, how have you been set up on the account? And she was just like, well, I've been here for a little bit and I still don't understand why I am ⁓ being censored. She was like, I barely even post here. She was I'll post a couple of Breaking The Meta: Kansas, yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): comments here and there she was like so there's no way that I am you know going against the policies. Breaking The Meta: The guidelines, yeah. And so for everyone listening, this isn't a surprise. And when I started by saying that, it's not a surprise. If you are part of this community, we have multiple times said that this administration, through the people that support him, like Oracle and you've seen it with a lot of media companies, while they're going to let the elections happen because they don't have any way to stop the elections from happening. They will do everything in their power to make life difficult for anyone who is a Democrat would support a Democrat if they believe they would support a Democrat. They will do anything they can to try and prevent them from prevent the Democratic Party from winning in any way, or form prevent anyone from winning. They won't even say just the Democratic Party. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yeah Breaking The Meta: It doesn't matter who they are. just want they just don't want anyone else to win other than them. So this isn't a surprise. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): anyone who's not handpicked by them, because if you notice the patterns, is that they will accept the people who are absolutely 100 % loyal to them, and they will obviously move them from their positions that they were duly elected for by their constituents in their state into these high positions, i.e. my, yeah, yeah. Breaking The Meta: DHS secretary. Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): And because they knew that he was gonna kiss the boot and he was actually going to, I don't know, follow the ways and the teachings of this administration. So it only makes sense that they're only picking and choosing exactly how they're going to do this and how they're going to manipulate the elections. And that's just exactly what they're gonna do. So you're not wrong whatsoever. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. So what has since you found out that you've gotten these restrictions and you've I'm assuming you've reached out to TikTok. What kind of response have you gotten from them? Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): So they actually reinstated my account early this morning. They reinstated it, but they gave me guardrails. And they also said that I have one more time to post anything that's political or else, you know, that's my final strike. And I've gotten a lot of feedback with it. I know, I know. Who were they? Like the thing is this. Breaking The Meta: Okay, good. ⁓ good. Like, wait, so did they know the White House is political too, right? Like the White House account on TikTok is political. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): they know, they do not care. They just, ⁓ I know you know that, but it's hilarious to me because it's like, you know, all the things that they were saying that we as Democrats were doing in the beginning, ⁓ it was confession to everything that they're doing now. Now they're silencing us. Now they're putting us in boxes and telling us that we can't do certain things. ⁓ And it's just a dictatorship at this point. Breaking The Meta: Yeah, I know that. I know. Ugh. Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): It's really getting to that point and it's rocking that boat. And I want everyone to know that when you get, when you start getting silenced by media and believe it or not, TikTok is media. Anything that you can get information off of, whether that's homesteading, STEM stuff, that you can gain knowledge off of is considered media. So they are now, Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): crossing over into that media sector where they are controlling the narrative of exactly what they're trying to do and what they're trying to say. And that leads into dictatorship. That spells and that reeks of it. And I want everyone to be aware of what's going on. Breaking The Meta: what of because I said it right in the beginning, but from your perspective, what kind of stuff ⁓ can the people hear this and are listening do to not just help you, but help all of the other candidates that are running that at some point in time will probably end up dealing with the exact same thing? Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yeah, so what they can do is they can follow them on all platforms. One platform that we're not having issues with is threads ⁓ or Instagram. And it's so weird that Metta would be the last place to actually have, you know, to meet, to be met with any resistance. And it still blows my mind. But, you know, follow them on all the platforms. Make sure that people know spreading the word, it, ⁓ holding TikTok accountable, Oracle. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): making videos, condemning them for everything that they're doing. Because the thing is, is that once it slowly starts happening to one, it's going to start happening to all of us, not just candidates. It's going to start happening to every single one of us. And, you know, no conspiracy. And it's so weird because I was just having this conversation with someone the other day is that ⁓ I don't, I don't even know if, if any conspiracy is too far-fetched at this point or if it isn't true. Because I feel like everything that people have kind of, you know, conspired has all been true like the Epstein pizza you like all those things so ⁓ you know but I have to draw my own conspiracy and my and my conspiracy is that ⁓ they're definitely going to start shutting shutting us down here soon if we don't Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, they're they're gonna try things. They've already tried things. There's the whatever it takes, They're gonna push ⁓ the line as far they can and see who they can get to who they can get to break. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Exactly. And that's why we all have to be strong in sharing these inequities that we are going through right now, making sure that people know everyone's name. Like that's going to be the biggest thing is name recognition because then when a candidate has name recognition, people, they're going to look for them. They're going to look for them everywhere. So if they see that they're not on TikTok anymore because of that name recognition, then it's obviously going to start raising some eyebrows to say like, what's going on. So keep Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yep. Exactly. Yep. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): spreading these names, keep elevating them, keep pushing to have the media visibility for these candidates or even, you know, podcasts like Breaking the Meta. Keep pushing it so we can keep on speaking out and calling out this this monstrosity. I have so many bad words for them monstrosity, atrocity, ⁓ know, disdain. Breaking The Meta: Yep. Yep. Worse words that we'd have to just go bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yeah, they would definitely hate me in the Bible Belt in Oklahoma. They'd be like, she has a potty mouth. They thought me just saying hell one day was the end all be all. I'm not joking. I wish I was joking. Yeah. Breaking The Meta: Hahaha! It, yeah, it's, it's, it's wild. It's wild. The, you know, you, you were one of the early people that I interviewed when I started this whole process. I have learned so much not only about just amazing people that are running for office, because just wow, like for P again, for people that may this may be new, I have interviewed over 100 people in two and a half months. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): busy, busy man. Yes. And even has a go live. You go live. ⁓ Yes, every morning. So gives you the morning news, the political breakdown. No sleep for this man. Give him a round of applause. Breaking The Meta: I'm so freaking busy! But... I go live every morning, yep. Yep. That's right. That's right. Not enough. That's for sure. But but one of the reasons I say it is, ⁓ not ⁓ it help just ⁓ getting recognition out there and helping all of these candidates. So when things like this happen, it's helpful. You will get just a massive ⁓ dose hope when you watch these candidates like Jasmine and like all these other people who are just flat out amazing people that don't like they didn't want to be in politics. They don't really want to be in politics, but they saw a need and they stepped up in a way that that we have been screaming about needing for for a long time. And that's what's so like, if if you get nothing else out of it, not only are you being helpful, which is great, but also you will just Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Breaking The Meta: you will watch these people and you'll be like, wow, this person, like I've talked to people who, there's people that were ⁓ former army tank commanders that are like, I'm gonna do it and ex CIA that left and doctors and union workers. It's just, the breadth of it is just amazing of the people that are running. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yeah, yeah. I mean, I have been in coalitions since I stated my intent to run and that was last March. And we're all on a very broad spectrum of where we come from. And it's actually breathtaking that there's so many of us that actually love our country that we would do anything to, you know, make sure that our country stays our country. And, you know, growing up, we had the Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): We had to learn the Pledge of Allegiance. We had to learn the National Anthem. We really had it instilled in us that America was great and they can't take that out of us. You guys pushed that into us. So let us love our country and take care of the very country that you forced us as children to obviously have a very fondness to. And that's what we plan to do. Breaking The Meta: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): It took carpenters, took welders, it took army tankers, it took nurses like me. It took, I'm trying to think, I don't know what the bigger ones have done, but there was a lot of people who were military spouses who ran for a local position. Breaking The Meta: Yeah? Yeah? So much military, so many ex-military. Again, I've said this multiple times, but of the over 100 people that I've interviewed, easily 75 % of them are veterans or military affiliated, but it's just, it's amazing. It's amazing. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes. or military affiliated, yes. But that should prove right there. And I just don't understand when people start to, you know, kind of start saying that the military is so evil and that they're following unlawful orders. I mean, I guess kind of using nuance here, I can understand that, you know, the veterans are kind of different than what active duty is because they kind of have to follow those orders or, you know, they will be, I don't know, reprimanded. It is. Breaking The Meta: It's a it's a scary decision to make. I mean, that's that's the thing for for all of us outside. It's probably feels really easy to just go, ⁓ man, I'd never I would never follow that order. But anyone who's really willing to like dig deep down and think about it knows that if you've spent especially if you're like 10, 15, 18 years like you're close to that retirement and you're like Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Breaking The Meta: There are some people that are willing to do it, you know, that's a hard decision to potentially give up your entire life and career on. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yeah, we have a candidate right now that's running in a congressional seat here in Oklahoma who he retired just to run for that congressional seat. And did you interview him? Yes, yes. I know Jeff. And, you know, he did that just so he could actually show the actual love that he's had for and he was what, 30, 32, 35 years is between that time. But he served that long. Yeah, he served that long. Breaking The Meta: Jeff, Jeff, yeah, Jeff Pixley, yep. Yeah, something like that. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): and then got out and then they threatened him with his pension. And it's like, that should tell you everything. That should tell you everything, one, about how our system is set up, but two, also how much our service members and prior service members actually do love this country. Like they would go to great ends and great lengths in order to maintain the country that they fought for, that they've seen their brothers and, you know, brothers and arms and sisters in arms fall for. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): So, you know, villainizing them is not going to, you know, it's not going to equal the playing field right now. It's not. Breaking The Meta: Yeah, yeah. So I want to I want to make a reminder on the call to action here. So for everyone who is here, is here listening, the goal here is to spread the news of what is happening here, but then take it another step and start reaching out following not just Jasmine, but all the candidates that you can find. Because again, these are people worth following. Like I know Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Breaking The Meta: that politics is crazy right now. know the world is burning right now. I know we were just talking before we went live on the crazy news that was coming out of California. And and you know, you got the first ladies announcement, which is just wild. And you got the war in Iran and just all these other things that are going on. But Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): It is. especially, I'm sorry, I just have to say this too, is that, know, especially supporting your female, your female candidates, because we are at a disadvantage, ⁓ one, fundraising, two, but also having our content pushed out because we are seen as, you know, lesser than our counterparts that are actually running with us. And you guys have to help us break that status quo as well. And that starts Breaking The Meta: No, no, Yeah. Yes. Yes. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): by not only being vocal about the TikTok situation, but being very vocal and also supporting the candidates that you are coming across. Donating, sharing, liking everything, because we're never going to get out of this, of whatever this craziness is. we, yes, yes. And it's gonna keep going on and we're gonna keep having the same complaints and the same wants and needs if we don't get people like me to the stage. Breaking The Meta: Yes. This cycle, it's just, it's an endless cycle that we're in. Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): to the world stage at that. So start locally, start, you know, congressionally, Senate, presidential, don't just wait, start voting as well. That's how you help. Breaking The Meta: Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. it's the easiest thing that you can do. And again, I'm not trying to say that it's not important. All of this we're saying is important. ⁓ Watching, liking, sharing, whether it's my content or their content, I don't care at this point. Obviously gonna want you to watch my content. ⁓ But in the end, that's not the ultimate goal. That's not even why I'm doing this. Trust Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Breaking The Meta: I am not doing all of the interviews that I'm doing. knowing that that how much work it's going in and how little social media has the potential of pushing my content. I'm doing it because it is so insanely important and I have the capability of doing it. Watch it, share it, comment on it, do the things that you know help things like algorithms. It's, it doesn't take a lot of work. You'll meet you'll you'll see some amazing people you'll learn some amazing things about states and people that you never knew before. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Exactly. And I can definitely, you know, I value that sentiment because I've learned a lot throughout this whole campaign that I've been on. Like I wouldn't have learned half of the things that I know, like APAC, J-PAC. Now, you know, like I like there's a lot going on. I wouldn't even know, you know, half of the presidential candidates for twenty twenty eight if it weren't for you guys as knowledge and spreading that news on because, you know, there's a lot of things that Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): You know, people like me in Oklahoma ⁓ wouldn't know that's in New York or California or, you know, necessarily in Florida. You guys keep us up to date with all the news so we can build legislation off of that, too. You just don't realize what your work does, even if you're not actively, you know, ⁓ contributing. But that's how you contribute as well. That's how you can help us win or you can help us out is when you drop your free thoughts. Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Some of us go in and we just randomly look up things on the internet just to draw mundane legislation that then when we put it out, it's a hit for people. Cause people are like, Hey, I didn't even know that you would even think of things like that. I did that with a ⁓ adult changing table the other day. I have a child with a disability, but my thing is, is my child is, ⁓ is potty trained. I would have never guessed because it's not happening to me that Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Right. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): There's a need for an adult changing table So then I was able to draw that legislation from looking at everyone's free thought and open thoughts and you know Tweet threading them out tweeting them out doing whatever that helps y'all and That's going to get in that reaches across party lines Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yep. again, mean, Jasmine can say it because I told her so when we so for those of you haven't watched it, I'll link it in the in description below. But I interviewed Jasmine and her video went up. I don't even remember how many weeks ago. Time is gone. But I know people that watched it and they messaged me and I sent it to Jasmine after and they said this person is going to change the world just from watching that video. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes. Breaking The Meta: And that's what I mean. This person who watched it is living in Massachusetts. I know this person. And they picked that up from a video of Jasmine in Oklahoma. These are the kind of things. Go on, comment. If you've got a question about what someone said in mine or any other video, ask the questions. These people want to answer it. They want to interact with you. Goodness gracious. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes, and we take constructive criticism as well. So that's what we want. We want you to ask these questions because the thing is, is that we cannot make legislation without you. And since I'm on a national stage and I'm the person that's going to yay or nay certain things that gets placed into law, it's like, it's important for you to bring up these issues because someone like me that has no idea of certain things, even though I feel like I've been through everything. Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): I haven't been through all the things. Exactly. So if we're going to build a better America, a better society or build a better world for all of us, it starts with giving us those crazy thoughts Breaking The Meta: None of us have. Yeah. When it comes to these kinds of conversations, the whole premise of this whole podcast was having hard conversations and breaking the status quo. Neither of those things are easy. Sometimes you're going to talk with people that have different, super deep held beliefs. And if we can't come together and find a way to have the hard conversations, we ain't going anywhere. Which stinks. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): No, and just for our candidates too, like I know a lot of us right now that are actually running in these races, we're pretty left, right? So we don't care at this point, whatever is said, we're just like, said it and I said what I said. But a lot of us need to also look at the fact that people don't know the back end of what it's like to run a campaign or to be a candidate or even to be an elected official. you know, being open and honest with your constituents or your supporters is in the nation because everyone wants to know how hard it is. They don't know because they've not been in these these positions. They've not stood in these shoes. So giving them the background of exactly what's going on, the hard truths, the sweet truths, know, the the not so the middle truths, you know, it's going to win you more trust within our communities, our state. our nation than just trying to, I don't know, pretend like shit sweet, excuse my language. Breaking The Meta: Pretend like we've won a war that we haven't won? You mean like that kind of stuff? Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Exactly. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ yeah. Like the straight of the hummus just got opened. We paid all the toll prices, right? Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Yeah, which it hasn't by the way, anyone listening, we've had five go through in the last 24 hours. It ain't open yet. Sorry. hate to tell you Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-mm. The keys have not been dropped. Breaking The Meta: I want to make sure we do this because again, you are amazing. ⁓ can people find out you? I ⁓ speak English. Where can people find out more about you if they want to just learn more or donate or volunteer or whatever? Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes. So I have a website. It's www.Jasmine4ok. So that's J-A-S-M-I-N-E-F-O-R-OK.com. And you can actually find me on all major social media platforms. I actually interact with you on every one of them. And I actually just act like a normal person, just, you know, tweeting on them too. I have a ball. But I have a kind of like Breaking The Meta: Yes, she does. Can't confirm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Why do I want to say LinkedIn? don't know why I said LinkedIn. No, no, I meant to say a Linktree. Breaking The Meta: LinkedIn. I wonder if any, would actually be interesting to find out if any candidates does a bunch of stuff on LinkedIn right now. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): that would be kind of maybe I should start that. Maybe that should be like a trend thing and just start making the companies feel really, really, really uncomfortable because I am anti-corporation. So might as well go ahead and make them feel some type of way. Right. And LinkedIn is a good place to start. but yeah, well, I meant my link tree. So my link tree is in every bio that is ⁓ on my major platform and there will be my act blue. And if you want to make a political donation via cash, Breaking The Meta: Nnha ha ha ha ha! Yep. Dap, yep. Yeah. It is, it's as good as any. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): because some people don't like to donate on ActBlue. Please message me and I can get you over our PO box so you can send that donation into us and we can get you a donation card. ⁓ But those are the main places that you can donate. But the biggest thing is telling everyone that we need these donations. And taking these small dollar donations has really added up. ⁓ And just for instance, and I won't keep you long, I promise. Quarter one of this past, ⁓ Breaking The Meta: You're okay. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): quarter of our filing period, my small dollar donations added up to $19,000. $19,000 and that's five, 10, 15. I mean, there'll be some big donations every now and then. So maybe like you're a hundred, 500, but that was so far few in between. It was those small dollar donations and making sure that you make that a recurring contribution as well, because that obviously shows our people. Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): our endorsers or who I'm trying to think of other people who even matter because none of these people matter at this point. It's just really you guys that matter. Breaking The Meta: What it does, and here's the thing, what it does for people that want to consider doing reoccurring, what it does is it allows people like Jasmine or any other candidate to be able to budget because they know what's coming in. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): This is... Exactly. Exactly. That was a better way to put it instead of me trying to like slay the establishment, because that's exactly what I was going to do. Breaking The Meta: No, you're good. You know, I have, like I said, I've interviewed a lot of people. I, you know, if I ever want to run, I've probably learned the ins and outs of a lot of things after doing all these interviews. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes, and I'm so glad you put it that way because I'm telling you I was getting ready to drag the establishment because I've had a hell of a week dealing with endorsers and I've had two people that are two organizations that has decided that they didn't want to endorse me. One is a female progressive organization that is supposed to, I don't know, endorse progressive females. And I'm the only female in my Breaking The Meta: Mm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): And they said that they would not endorse me in my primary. So I was like, the whole point of you endorsing and not endorsing in a primary ⁓ is the mere fact is that if there was another woman. that was running in this progressive woman. But since there's not, there should have been no reason why I was not able to get endorsed. And then I had ⁓ another one and it just blew my mind because I already knew that they were pretty insufferable anyway. So I really kind of just wanted to, you know, move along from that situation. They can't even make up whether if they want a long sleeve or a short sleeve shirt as they're, they just, can't. So, but, ⁓ Breaking The Meta: Mm. Yeah. Yeah. Ha! Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): That was all off of kind of restructuring my team at the time. then ⁓ Bernard just recently didn't get a endorsement from Working Families Party. And he's the most progressive person. He is for the working, like if anybody, yes, that is a fireman. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Yeah. He is the working class, man. Yep. Yep. Cool dude, by the way, Bernard Taylor. Make sure you check him out. His video's gonna be coming out soon. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): And so the mere fact is that, yes. That is my brother, yes. So please, please, please ⁓ also donate to his campaign. He is running in Florida in the, ooh, I always forget his number in his district. think it's, why do I wanna say 14th? But I don't think it's that. Yes, yes. And so he gave me the information that they had denied his endorsement. Breaking The Meta: Gosh. You keep talking, I'm gonna look it up. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): And so at this point, who are you working for? Like, I mean, are you working for the people with the big names? Are you working with the people who are making the big coins? Like, how are we doing this? Because, and I'm not trying to get my endorsements taken away, but at the same time, I don't need the endorsements when I have the votes of the people. Breaking The Meta: No. 21st District. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): 21st district. I'm sorry, Bernard, if you're watching this, I really didn't forget. I just got on my soap box. I promise brother. ⁓ Breaking The Meta: I'm sending him this chunk. I'm going to send it to him in the mail and be like, look what your sister did. She couldn't even remember what district you were running in. I mean, you made your life easier. Like I'm running for a whole state. I don't have to worry about it. Everyone knows where I'm running. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): You're gonna get me in trouble! You're gonna get me in trouble! The 21st district, yes. And then he made it very difficult, but what's new? He has four kids. He is the difficult one. And he's a fireman too. So, yes. So he wanted it to be difficult. So I give that to him. I love him to death. But yes. So the establishment's not even supporting us at this point. They're supporting who they want to support. And that's fine. They can have that, but they can't say that they are all for the working class or they're for the underdogs if they're not actually doing anything for the underdogs. Okay? Breaking The Meta: Yep. That's right. That's right. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. I want to say this. No, no, absolutely don't never apologize for getting passionate about it. That's one of the reasons that I love that you're running and I can't wait to see what you do as a senator. It's going to be awesome. But I want to I would just want to I want to kind of finish off with this because I think it's really important. So important. You made a thread that I actually that I commented on just recently. I think you just today ⁓ where you were talking about supporting women. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): It's... yeah, sorry. Yeah. Yeah. Breaking The Meta: ⁓ in politics. And one of my mods ⁓ made this statement, and I completely 100 % agree with it. Since the beginning of this country, we have been led by white men. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Breaking The Meta: almost like 99 % of 250 years and look at the kind of shit show we have turned into it is time to break that status quo it is time for a change and this is coming from a white man who's more than you know we haven't earned it we've destroyed things more than we've we've destroyed more than we've built Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Yes. And I agree. I agree with you. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna pedal paddle around this. I agree. I agree that there are a lot Breaking The Meta: Nope. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): a lot of the things that have went on within our country, such as, you know, even it began with the Mayflower. I'm just going to say that it just started with the Mayflower. Soon as the Mayflower was able to dock, maybe that's when everything just went downhill. so the matriarch is rising. We are seeing actually so many women across so many levels of government actually step up and start running and they're actually winning. And we're seeing everything that they're doing and they're actually getting things done. Like I can honestly say that the mayor of Detroit, her name is Mary Sheffield, mayor. Breaking The Meta: ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Let me put some respect on her name. Mayor Mary Sheffield. She just got into office ⁓ in January. She got sworn in and she immediately put in legislation where, you know, the first year of a baby's life, they basically get taken care of. They get diapers, ⁓ formula. And all of this is taxpayers. Taxpayers agreed on this and she made it ⁓ her prerogative to take care of the parents because You know, no one was taking care of us. They were asking us to have babies, but they weren't giving us, you know, any kind of leverage on helping us, you know, maintain these kids. So she did that. She immediately got in there and started taking, started taking care of moms. Sorry, I had gotten a little congested there. Started taking care of moms, parents, not just moms. And we obviously saw where her priorities lied. And then we have Abigail Spanberger. in Virginia who came in and she just started basically dismantling the patriarchy and making sure that everybody, everyone, everyone was represented on so many levels. I just saw something earlier where she had gotten all of the Confederates taken off of their license plates, which is an incredible thing because the Confederates were bad people. Breaking The Meta: Good. Yeah, we're not going to get into that that whole insanity of why why anyone would want confederates still on anything anymore. She's a wheeze. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): No. And they don't get it because they don't want to get it. But nonetheless, the matriarchy is at its rising right now. And I do believe that we are way past due for our Black and our Brown mamas to start coming up, the ladies, the aunties, to get out there and start showing what actual empathy looks like. Breaking The Meta: Hell yeah. Yep. Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): I had this conversation with someone a few weeks ago, and I think it was my husband, and he said, and I'll never forget it. He said, we had to teach white people humanity. Breaking The Meta: Mmm. Yeah, I mean, no argument there. That's yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): I stopped and I thought about it. ⁓ because at first I was like, well, what do you mean? Because there's so many ⁓ people out there. He was like, no, he was like, the lynchings that happened, people could bump into a white person back in the ⁓ ⁓ whatever it was during Jim Crow. And they would immediately ⁓ take a mob ⁓ pitchforks and fires. to the people's house for just bumping into them and go hang them off a bridge. And then you have, ⁓ you know, the trail of tears, X, Z. So as I sat back and I actually thought about all this, I said, ⁓ my gosh, this is true. And so that's a firm belief that we did that, you know, the black and brown community really had to teach our white counterparts humanity. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): And there's some that's learning. There's some that's learning. You're one of them, not to give you, know, your head up. Not to fill your head up or anything. Breaking The Meta: I'm trying, I'm trying. I'm trying. No. Hey, you know, I failed just as much as as anybody I it's it's it's really interesting. Well, I appreciate that. And, you know, it's interesting as someone who did not realize because of where I grew up, because of just I didn't realize I lived in a bubble to begin with. I didn't realize what I lived with, what I grew up with, what I what Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Well, I haven't seen it on my part. I haven't seen it on my part. Breaking The Meta: this society literally. Now, I would like to think I wasn't as bad ⁓ as others, even though I even though I could, you know, looking back, I could see where I where I still had bits and pieces of it just because again, I grew up in a very white area. Like I knew one one black person in the entire like in my entire city kind of a thing. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Breaking The Meta: You never realize it and it hurts, especially if you think you're a good person. understand that's the part that I think is tough to work through with people is they're fighting because some of these people probably thought they were good people. And then you're like, then you go up to them and you go, you know, I hate to tell you. And it's not may not be your it may not be your fault, but you were still born. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. Bye bye! Breaking The Meta: into a world, into a society where the basis of it was racism and misogyny. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Mm-hmm. We call that epigenetics. We say that, ⁓ you know, that's something that's just passed down within your lineage. Like, you could absolutely 100 % be, you know, so, so accepting of just about everything. You could even be accepting of the most weirdest things. But nonetheless, because of your epigenetics, you are pretty much, you know, inclined to have those kind of feelings Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): It's just what's been passed down and it's just in your genetics. ⁓ And that's why the black and brown community gives the that we do is because we know that a lot of people who are of our age, so 31. Breaking The Meta: Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): And like the millennials or Gen Z and now coming up Gen Alpha, ⁓ Gen Alpha is more raised by more accepting parents than millennials and even Gen X. Gen X were raised by boomers. But we try to give you the grace where the grace is needed and we give you the ball and put it in your court and we say, do what you will with this information. Breaking The Meta: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): You can make a three pointer right here if you just listen to what we're saying. And a lot of your counterparts, they don't want to listen and they don't want to have these conversations because they feel guilty for what their families or what their parents or what their grandparents have done. And it's like, we're not holding you accountable. We're not holding you accountable for the worst of the worst. We're holding you accountable to break that cycle. And that's all we want to do. Breaking The Meta: Yeah, yep. Jasmine, every time you and I talk, it always turns into way more than I was expecting. And I love it so much. And I can't wait to have you back on again and again and again, especially when when you win as the senator of Oklahoma. ⁓ Again, I just want to make sure I remind everyone now that you have finished watching, please hit all those buttons down below. And again, and for everyone who just doesn't know about this podcast, like I said, I've been interviewing so many people. I'm literally posting interviews daily, every single day. And for those of you that are in a state that has a May primary, I've actually created a playlist specifically for every interview I've done of people that have a primary in the month of May. Go watch those. help those people. And then you're going to get a June one and then you're going to get a July one and it's just going to keep going. Jasmine Thomas (D-OK): Do it. And you're going to keep sharing, keep liking, keep, keep going. Don't stop until we get to midterms. And then after midterms, when we hit that blue wave, don't quit holding us accountable. Breaking The Meta: I'm gonna keep sharing. Don't stop if you're getting up. Get up. David, don't stop. All right, guys, thank you so much for being here.
