- Jaba: Hello, everybody, and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator Podcast. This is Will Jarvis, also known as Jabba Cards, joined as always by my co-host Jeremy Brown of Perfect Game Baseball, more importantly, known as JGB underscore cards underscore. This is our second of our three-part Wednesday content dump. looking at price checks on Bowman Chrome, the weekly price checks. End of week four. It's hard to believe that the product released four weeks ago today. It's been a scramble, but it's been a lot of fun. in this one we have kind of the full season minor league bats. We got fifteen names in front of us. kind of their prices as of you know the start of each week, starting it on a Wednesday. And Jeremy, we got our five guys, you know, that we kind of love. And then we got ten I don't want to call them all budget names. But you know, looking at these notes here, what what's standing out to you? Jheremy: so the five names that we're talking about at the top are Andy Azakar, Jaden Lorray, Slater de Brun, Wilder, Dalis, and Sebastian dos Santos. I think we kind of talked ourselves up on Sebastian a little bit last time we spoke about him, and I went out and grabbed a couple on stream. latest sales look like they're 2878 average. does have a high volume at 238, which is kind of wild. Because feel like we don't see his stuff on eBay that often, but clearly you do. I've seen him as low as like down around 20 bucks, which isn't terrible. So I I Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: did start picking up a couple of him. De Brun keeps kind of ticking down lower and lower, which I think the he's only gonna go up once he starts performing and showing some of that flyball slash power that people are waiting for with him. Everything else is there. It's just we know power sells cards. Low Ray actually went up a couple bucks Jaba: For sure. Jheremy: at 2860, up from $26. So nice little jump there. Same with Azakar. Went from $26 at the end of week three up to $28.53. And really, I can't find any like bins on an Azucar base sub 30 bucks right now. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough. But he he definitely is a name to be on the prowl for. He is a obviously Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: an Oriole now though, too, not a Red Sox. So I'm wondering if that's helping keep his price up artificially high because he is in a Red Sox uniform. And the fifth name's Wielder Dalis, who I wasn't really gonna touch on at all because we just had him as a buy in yesterday's buy sell hold. So if Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: you haven't heard us talk about him yet, go back and do so because there's plenty of info on him. What about you? Within that just that upper tier. Anything standout? Jaba: Yeah, you know, I I think generally speaking it's appropriate. I think, you know, like you said, wielder delise too low, but I've been beating that to death for two weeks. So, you know, go listen to yesterday's episode. or last week's price check or basically any price check we've done for more thoughts on that. I think, you know, in the last episode I was saying, okay, you know, these DSL guys in that second tier are all kind of settling right at 20 bucks, give or take, two or three. Seems like the, you know, this group of five, they're settling right at like the $28, $30 mark. Because we got Azagar, Dos Santos, and Low Rey all trading at $28 and change. I mean, Azakar's twenty-eight fifty-three, Lowray twenty-eight sixty, Dos Santos twenty-eight seventy-eight. I mean, they're all like literally within cents of each other. you know, I think that makes sense. I think it makes sense that Slater is the lowest out of that kind of standout group. Obviously, Jheremy: Agree. Jaba: you know, he's got the talent, he's got the draft pedigree, and he didn't do anything wrong necessarily in his injured shortened injury shortened year. But like you said, we gotta start seeing fly balls. We gotta start seeing some pop. I don't think anybody's expecting him to, you know, go 30-30 next year and put up like Eric Hartman numbers. But, you know, I think he was hitting like four ground balls for every fly ball. Like that that that's just not gonna work. I do still like the player. I have a lot of him. But, you know, it makes sense that he's kind of at the bottom of that grouping. But yeah, I think Again, just to echo last episode, it's nice knowing, okay, like for those DSL guys in that second tier, you know, fifteen dollars is probably a great deal, twenty dollars is an acceptable deal. You know, for these names, you know, with Azakar, Loray, and Dos Santos, it's like, okay, if you're getting up to thirty all in, that's a good good deal. Anything, you know, sub twenty three, twenty four, you're doing real well. And then, you know, Delease kinda anything under twenty bucks you're doing well, Slater's at fifteen. So I think Again, just kind of ingraining those price points where these guys are settling into your head so that when you're on whatnot or when you're at show, you know, you can kinda just go off the top of your head and I think we we'll probably do an episode at some point talking about, you know, how to operate at shows, but I think, you know, at least for me as a seller, like if I see some guy like on their phone, like obviously comping cards and like you're not gonna know every comp. But like if I see someone that's just like on their phone comping, like I know that they're just like looking for a low comp and they're like a shark in the water. Whereas I think if you can walk up to a table and just confidently offer, say it's like a twenty dollar card, and say. Jheremy: Check check your phone real quick. I I'm cutting you off, just check your phone real quick. I don't know if that's a good price, but it just went up. Jaba: Okay. I'm on it. Jheremy: It just went up. I don't know if that's a good price or not. But it's it's been up for like Jaba: what about it? Jheremy: three minutes, so I needed you to at least see that before it goes away. Jaba: Yeah, I think Dave's gonna want that. Yeah, it does. Okay. Jheremy: It looks pretty well centered too. So Did you get it? Jaba: it's gone. Jheremy: man. Jaba: It was an N D Azucar Orange at nine hundred dollars. I was wondering why you were waving. I like, Did my camera go out? but yeah Jheremy: I I was I was trying to get your attention. well. Jaba: I think it shows being able to like walk up and I'm not saying like try to murder someone, but if it's like a twenty dollar cart and you can just walk up and say I'll give you fifteen for that I think y you know, people are gonna think, Okay, you know, sure. You know, I think if people see you on your phone and then doing it, it's like, okay, like this guy's trying to, you know, Jheremy: yeah. Jaba: take me behind the woodshed. But not to go on a tangent there, that I think that pretty much covers, you know, the big five there. Let's call it the fab five. And then Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: we got our list of ten more guys. You know, we talked about Alex Lodis yesterday in our buy sell hold episode. He's at twenty six bucks. We have him as a hold. you know If you want to hear the reasoning on that, just go listen to yesterday's. We talked about it you know, pretty in detail. Owen Ayres, fifteen bucks and then, you know, you got over and at ten, and then you're basically seven bucks and below. W Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: out of these ten guys, you have any picks you like or that surprise you? Jheremy: I mean Like, I mean, without going to beat the horse again, like Anthony Martinez is still a really good value buy. Like, I'm just gonna keep saying his name. Like you can go bin his base Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: auto for five bucks with the dollar shipping. I know that because I almost did it the other day. Like you can find those very readily available. the Mets guys are up there, Wyatt Vincent, Randy Guzman both five, six bucks each. kind of transacting pretty frequently. AOA. Went from three bu six bucks up to ten, back down to seven now. a little bit older. Brandon Buttersworth. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him start trending up a little bit the more he fills up AFL box scores. He's at least there. Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: Unlike anybody else on this list, I believe, off the top of my head, none of those guys are there. Brendan Jones almost saw a double up from week three to week four at three ninety five to six nineteen. I'm not saying go ahead and S like if if you bought them at three dollars you're you're not gonna get rich selling at six. But it is good to see like your money already working for you, I guess, in regards to some of those. Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, you always wanna see it moving in the right direction. Jheremy: Austin Overn might be a little bit of a buy now with how low he's getting, honestly. Jaba: I agree. Jheremy: Like he is older, right? We know that. We're we're fully aware that he's an older Rays outfield prospect. He's 23 in double A. But he hit 304 this year and he had a like a nine, we'll call it a nine fifty OPS. struck out three to one. We don't love that, especially for his age, but I mean shit, he he had a ton of forty-nine bags, like. Has has some some juice, fifteens fifteen home runs. Like there's a little bit of everything there. And we know that the Rays aren't gonna be afraid to be aggressive with him. Like if he makes a debut next year and gets a little flashy to him, then you have him and Chandler Simpson covering the outfield by themselves, gives him a fifth infielder with that fifth slot. We call up Theo Gillen. See how things are turning here already. Austin Overn is gonna lead to the Theo Gillen call up, is what I'm saying. But no, I'm for for like basically what a sub ten dollar base auto, I think you you Austin Overn is a good little buy right now. And you can probably find him cheaper, quite honestly, huh? I'd imagine Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: if he's averaging ten bucks, there's definitely some sales that are lower, so let's take a look. Jaba: Yeah. Yeah, I'm with ya on Over and I'm with ya on Anthony Martinez. I think you know even AOA, just shy of seven bucks, you know, I I think there's deals to be had and these aren't gonna be the ones that are ten Xing. n never say never, but they're probably not gonna be ten Xing. Obviously with like the Bowman Chrome release in particular, I think it's easy to get caught up in chasing, you know, the DSL guys 'cause you see, Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: you know, Jesus Mate, you see Emile Morales, you know, all these guys that just blow up. But I think having a foundation with some of these safer guys, like Anthony Martinez at four dollars. Like if he's bad next year, you go on what not or eBay and sell him for three Bucks. If he's good, they'll be Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: 10, 15, 20. you know, same for most of these guys, like Randy Guzman. He's a $5 guy. He's a Met. If he makes any noise next year, you know, it's a $15-20 auto. And again, the downside just really doesn't exist. I think, Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: you know, I'm a little surprised Owen Ayers isn't higher at $15. I'm personally not a fan, but I mean he's on the pipeline list, you know, he's a cub. I'm kind of surprised that he's fallen this low. I think it's probably like an appropriate price given his age, and the fact that last year was kind of his first good year as a pro. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: But yeah, I think like you said, I think Butterworth and Jones are two guys that are, you know, they look like they could be in the majors next year and you know, hit a decent bit. But, you Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: know, I I I think my big takeaways here, again, are just, you know, try to grab some safer guys. You know, if you're trying to make it like an actual portfolio, you know, you just want your safe, safe stocks. you know, lays a foundation and, you know, if you bought ten of all ten of these college guys, you know, and come back in June, I guarante I guarantee you'd be up money. I'm not sure how much, but you'd be up. so yeah. You got any other Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: big takeaways on these guys or Jheremy: I mean, just kind of in this list in general, within this product, I feel like if you're call it not a teenager and you're in this product, it's basically a death sentence. A lot of people equate Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: you if you're not a seventeen or eighteen year old player, you're not good in this product. I know I went with twenty 'cause I'm I know like Azakar's twenty, Dallis is twenty, but like they they just turned it and they already have the prospect pedigree. But anybody else Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: who's like being introduced to the Bowman scene right now, like both of them were in twenty six Bowman. Like the Martinez and just not to keep saying the same names, but all those college guys are like Well, they're not they're not D SL guys. We don't they must not be good. They must be throw ins. And I just don't think that's true, but that's kind of the mindset I feel that gets passed around. Something I kind of said with like even like a Logan Dawson high school kid, like if he was in Bowman Draft, does your whole mind shift change a little bit of him being like, he was in draft, he was just drafted late round pick, there must be something there. As opposed to now Bowman Chrome, he's just a throw in to fill the checklist. Like I don't know. It's just a a mental thing, I think. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: that way. Maybe somebody else does. But just like Jaba: No, I I I I agree with you. I mean, like sometimes you'll get like a a Schlitler that was kind of the perfect storm of timing. And I I also don't think anybody thought that he would become this good. but you know, other than kind of the rare case like that, you know, it's so many like the twenty-three, twenty-four year olds like over in an airs who are dominating like double A but they're old, you know, it's just not the most exciting. And, you know, at the end of the day, everyone's gonna gravitate towards the DSL guy. guys, you know, they're scary, they're volatile, but they are fun and you know, I think it's human Jheremy: It's a high risk, high reward. Jaba: human nature to go that way. But yeah, I mean I think like I said, I forget if it was this episode or the last one, like, you know, draft is really the one where you can hone in on your guys 'cause you have a lot of data and, you know, good idea who's who. But, you know, this is one where I think it's not the worst idea to just kind of scatter your money and, you know Check check your 4-0 box in June and see what you got. But I think that wraps up here. we're gonna run right into our pitcher episode after this. So thank you guys as always for listening. Means the world to us. And yeah, we'll pitchers coming up next. So hopefully you guys are listening to that. See you guys. Jheremy: Go go jobolinas. Jaba: Go, Mats.
