- 0:00Speaker 1: Every SEC schedule has one. There's a game that nobody
- 0:03Speaker 1: circles in August, the one that looks pretty harmless on paper,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and then it shows up in late October wearing the
- 0:09Speaker 1: other team's best week of the season. For LSU, I
- 0:13Speaker 1: think that game was Auburn. Not because Auburn was supposed
- 0:15Speaker 1: to be great. Auburn wasn't supposed to be great. It
- 0:18Speaker 1: was because of what Auburn did seven days earlier. Auburn
- 0:21Speaker 1: went on the road and knocked off the number one
- 0:23Speaker 1: team in the country in Georgia. Alex McPherson, a 34-yard
- 0:27Speaker 1: walk-off field goal for the ballgame. That kind of win
- 0:30Speaker 1: can turn a season. It can turn a fan base,
- 0:33Speaker 1: and it turns a sleepy Saturday on the Plains into
- 0:36Speaker 1: a sold-out building that truly thinks anything is possible. And LSU,
- 0:43Speaker 1: they had a problem nobody in Baton Rouge wanted to
- 0:46Speaker 1: say out loud. They were struggling to win a conference
- 0:48Speaker 1: game on the road. Not this year, not last year.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Hadn't been done since October of 2024, if I can
- 0:55Speaker 1: read home and away correctly. I think that's eight straight
- 0:58Speaker 1: SEC road losses. Six of them did happen before Lane
- 1:01Speaker 1: Kiffin ever showed up, and then two more on his watch.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Ole Miss, and then a gun punch in Kentucky. So
- 1:09Speaker 1: think about the setup here. A team riding the biggest
- 1:13Speaker 1: high of its season in a team that has completely
- 1:15Speaker 1: forgotten how to win in somebody else's house. Jordan Hare,
- 1:18Speaker 1: packed to the rafters. LSU, a touchdown favorite. That's not
- 1:22Speaker 1: just a football game. That's a trap that has a
- 1:24Speaker 1: kickoff time. Kiffin knew it. He actually admitted he was
- 1:28Speaker 1: pulling for Auburn to beat Georgia the week before. Not
- 1:30Speaker 1: because he liked Auburn, but because he knew exactly what
- 1:33Speaker 1: kind of hangover that win could create. The words he
- 1:38Speaker 1: used were, relief syndrome is real. But here's the thing
- 1:42Speaker 1: about relief syndrome. It only works if you let the
- 1:45Speaker 1: other team off the mat. So, did LSU step in
- 1:49Speaker 1: it today? Or did they finally learn how to walk
- 1:52Speaker 1: into a hostile building and take it over? This is
- 1:55Speaker 1: TJ Pittenger. It's SEC and college football addiction. Let's jump
- 1:59Speaker 1: into things. We are presented by PrizePix, where all new
- 2:02Speaker 1: users who play a $ 5 lineup and win get $ 150
- 2:04Speaker 1: in lineups instantly if they use code HMA.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Let's go back to the start. LSU wins the toss
- 2:11Speaker 2: into first here. I love this.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Put the ball in the hands of the team that's
- 2:15Speaker 1: emotionally sky high. Make them prove it right away.
- 2:19Speaker 2: They couldn't.
- 2:20Speaker 1: They went three and out. LSU gets the ball on
- 2:22Speaker 1: a short field. You go up three nothing after a
- 2:25Speaker 1: short field goal. Nothing's crazy has happened yet. Auburn answers
- 2:30Speaker 1: the right way. 12 plays, 69 yards, two third and
- 2:33Speaker 1: long conversions. McPherson, the guy who walked it off last week,
- 2:37Speaker 1: ties it from 23 yards out. And for a second,
- 2:41Speaker 1: you could almost feel it. That is how traps work.
- 2:44Speaker 1: They don't spring all at once. They start to tighten.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Then Leavitt went six for six, six throws, six completions.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And the last one was a 10 yard touchdown, 10
- 2:54Speaker 1: to three LSU late in the first. All right, LSU's ahead,
- 2:58Speaker 1: but this is where the game should have maybe gotten
- 2:59Speaker 1: uncomfortable because Auburn's punter uncorked a career-long 69-yarder in the
- 3:05Speaker 1: second quarter and pinned LSU at its own five-yard line.
- 3:09Speaker 2: You're backed up.
- 3:09Speaker 1: You're on the road. You're in a stadium that's waiting
- 3:12Speaker 1: for just one mistake, and then it looks like they
- 3:15Speaker 1: got it. Winters came down with what looked like an interception.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Jordan Hare explodes. This is the moment, right? This is
- 3:22Speaker 1: the exact moment every LSU fan has seen before on
- 3:25Speaker 1: the road in this league over and over again. Replay
- 3:30Speaker 1: overturns it. It's not a pick. And instead of rattling LSU,
- 3:34Speaker 1: it seemed to wake them up a little bit. A
- 3:36Speaker 1: few plays later, they're facing fourth and two from their
- 3:38Speaker 1: own 31. Their own 31, on the road, up a score.
- 3:42Speaker 1: They go for it.
- 3:42Speaker 2: They get it. And they didn't stop.
- 3:44Speaker 1: 14 plays, 95 yards, capped off by a touchdown pass
- 3:49Speaker 1: from Levitt to, I think that was Tredez Green on
- 3:51Speaker 1: that one, who was back after missing the last few
- 3:54Speaker 1: games with a sprained knee.
- 3:56Speaker 2: It's 17-3.
- 3:56Speaker 1: That drive is the one that I keep coming back to.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It's a 95-yard drive that started with a career-long punt.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It survived an interception that wasn't won, and then it
- 4:06Speaker 1: turned a fourth-down call from your own side of the
- 4:09Speaker 1: field into something massive. It wasn't a team that was
- 4:13Speaker 1: playing scared on the road. It was a team daring
- 4:16Speaker 1: the road to do something about it. Now, credit to Auburn.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They did something with it here. Their best drive of
- 4:22Speaker 1: the half, 11 plays, 75 yards on third and eight
- 4:25Speaker 1: for midfield. Brown hits Singleton for 15. Two plays later,
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's third and 12, and the rush is coming. Brown
- 4:31Speaker 1: does the one thing LSU had spent all week trying
- 4:34Speaker 1: to prevent.
- 4:35Speaker 2: He escapes.
- 4:37Speaker 1: He cuts right and takes off for 34 yards, gets
- 4:39Speaker 1: down to your one-yard line. He then punches it in himself,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and we're thinking, hey, we've got a game here, 17-10.
- 4:46Speaker 1: The building's back in it. It's a one-possession game. Auburn
- 4:49Speaker 1: has the momentum. The crowd is loud. Every bit of
- 4:51Speaker 1: that Georgia energy is flooding back into the stadium. This
- 4:54Speaker 1: is the trap, right? This is the spot where the
- 4:58Speaker 1: old LSU, the one that lost eight straight SEC road games,
- 5:01Speaker 1: gives one back, whether it's a penalty, a sack, a turnover, something.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Three plays.
- 5:07Speaker 1: That's how long it lasted. On third and five, Levitt
- 5:11Speaker 1: finds Harris on a crossing route over the middle. It's
- 5:13Speaker 1: maybe a 12-yard throw, 15. Harris turns it into a
- 5:16Speaker 1: 70-yard touchdown. It's 24-10 with 4.29 left in the half.
- 5:21Speaker 2: And honestly, that's the game.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I know there were still almost 35 minutes to go.
- 5:26Speaker 2: The scoreboard says otherwise.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But that play, that response, three snaps after Auburn had
- 5:31Speaker 1: finally grabbed the momentum back, that's where it all ended.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Because LSU's defense forced another three and out, and then
- 5:38Speaker 1: the offense went another 74 yards and 10 plays.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Levitt finished it himself.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You get into the end zone again with, what, less
- 5:45Speaker 1: than 20 seconds left on the clock, 31 to 10
- 5:47Speaker 1: at halftime.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Game's over.
- 5:51Speaker 1: LSU scored on five of their first half possessions. There
- 5:54Speaker 1: were only six of them in a building they were
- 5:56Speaker 1: supposed to be afraid of against a team that was
- 5:59Speaker 1: supposed to be riding a wave. That wave never got
- 6:02Speaker 1: to shore. The second half was honestly a slog. I'm
- 6:06Speaker 1: not going to pretend that it was phenomenal to watch LSU.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Got the ball to open the third quarter. They burned
- 6:13Speaker 1: roughly half of the quarter on an 11 play drive
- 6:15Speaker 1: that went just 28 yards and no points.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Nobody scored in the third quarter.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Dylan Jones took one in from 12 yards out in
- 6:23Speaker 1: the fourth to make it 38, 10 Auburn got a
- 6:25Speaker 1: late touchdown from a backup quarterback. Um, Good for him.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Good moment, I'm sure. But that's all it was. Final score,
- 6:33Speaker 1: LSU 38, Auburn 17. The streak of eight straight road
- 6:39Speaker 1: losses like that is officially dead. So what actually matters
- 6:43Speaker 1: from this? Before I tell you, I want to give
- 6:45Speaker 1: some love to Alumni Hall. Make sure that you are
- 6:48Speaker 1: shopping at alumnihall.com or in person using our code CFA15.
- 6:54Speaker 2: That'll save you 15% on.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Purchases in-store or online. Doesn't sign you up for anything.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Not a monthly subscription. But before you get to Tiger
- 7:03Speaker 1: Stadium for the next game, make sure that you are
- 7:05Speaker 1: geared up at Alumni Hall. You got two weeks before
- 7:08Speaker 1: your next one. Make sure Alumni Hall is part of
- 7:10Speaker 1: that experience. Takeaway number one, Sam Levitt stopped being the
- 7:14Speaker 1: reason LSU loses on the road. That sounds harsh, but
- 7:18Speaker 1: it's true. And the numbers from this season back it up.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Coming into this game, Levitt had been responsible for all
- 7:24Speaker 1: three LSU turnovers in those two road losses. both Ole
- 7:27Speaker 1: Miss and Kentucky. You lost by a combined nine points.
- 7:31Speaker 1: You don't have to squint very hard to see how
- 7:34Speaker 1: those games flip. Turnovers are massive. Today, he was 32
- 7:40Speaker 1: of 45. He had a career-high 387 passing yards. He
- 7:46Speaker 1: had three touchdowns. He had 54 more yards on the ground.
- 7:52Speaker 1: He had four total touchdowns.
- 7:54Speaker 2: No turnovers.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And that's two weeks in a row now that he
- 7:58Speaker 1: hasn't had a turnover. Last Saturday against Mississippi State, he
- 8:01Speaker 1: threw for just under 304 touchdowns in a 31-0 shutout.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Clean then, clean now. And here's why it matters.
- 8:08Speaker 1: When Kiffin talked about winning on the road this week,
- 8:10Speaker 1: his whole point was that road losses usually aren't about
- 8:13Speaker 1: the other team making plays.
- 8:15Speaker 2: They're about you making mistakes. Fewer mistakes, more wins. Simple
- 8:19Speaker 2: as that. Levitt was making mistakes.
- 8:22Speaker 1: And now for two weeks, he's been doing the opposite.
- 8:26Speaker 2: That's what LSU paid for.
- 8:27Speaker 1: That's what they went and got out of the portal
- 8:30Speaker 1: when they got one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in
- 8:32Speaker 1: the country. Not to put up numbers against overmatched opponents
- 8:35Speaker 1: at home, to walk into Jordan Hare and not blink,
- 8:37Speaker 1: and he didn't blink today. Takeaway number two, LSU built
- 8:41Speaker 1: a cage for Byron Brown, and I don't think he
- 8:44Speaker 1: ever got out of it. One week earlier, he ran
- 8:46Speaker 1: for 115 yards against Georgia. He had a touchdown. He
- 8:50Speaker 1: was the whole story. McPherson may have kicked the winner,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but Brown was the engine of that upset. LSU watched
- 8:56Speaker 1: that film, and they made a decision. They said, you're
- 8:58Speaker 1: not beating us with your legs. They blitzed him. They
- 9:01Speaker 1: splied him. From the very first series, the message was clear.
- 9:04Speaker 1: If you want to beat us, you're going to have
- 9:05Speaker 1: to do it from the pocket, and he could not.
- 9:07Speaker 1: He was 15 of 24, 160 yards. He was sacked
- 9:11Speaker 1: six times, I believe. He still led Auburn in rushing,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and that's just 21 yards that he had to lead them.
- 9:20Speaker 1: You take away that 34-yard scramble, and you're looking at
- 9:23Speaker 1: a quarterback who spent most of the day running backwards.
- 9:26Speaker 1: LSU finished, I believe, with 12 tackles for loss. Auburn's
- 9:30Speaker 1: whole offense is built to play with a lead and
- 9:32Speaker 1: then lean on the run game, and they never got
- 9:34Speaker 1: to do either one of those things. It's not just effort.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's a plan, and it was about as well executed
- 9:39Speaker 1: as a plan could be. Takeaway number three for me
- 9:42Speaker 1: is that LSU answered every single punch, and I think
- 9:45Speaker 1: that's new. I think this is the one that matters
- 9:48Speaker 1: the most going forward. Every big moment in this game
- 9:51Speaker 1: had a fork in the road. And every single time,
- 9:54Speaker 1: LSU took the right path. Auburn ties it for three.
- 9:58Speaker 1: LSU goes six for six and scores. Auburn pins you
- 10:00Speaker 1: at the five LSU goes 95 yards Auburn gets an
- 10:03Speaker 1: interception replay takes it away and LSU responds on goes
- 10:08Speaker 1: for it on fourth down from their own 31 instead
- 10:10Speaker 1: of just playing scared you went out and won it
- 10:12Speaker 1: Auburn scores to make it a one possession game and
- 10:14Speaker 1: the stadium is rocking three plays later 70 yard touchdown
- 10:19Speaker 1: That's the thing to me that's been missing about this team.
- 10:21Speaker 1: It's never been about talent. It's never been a talent
- 10:24Speaker 1: problem at all. The problem has been the ability to
- 10:28Speaker 1: answer the ability to absorb a hit and swing back
- 10:32Speaker 1: immediately before the crowd and the moment can snowball today.
- 10:36Speaker 1: They had an answer every time. I'm not going to
- 10:39Speaker 1: tell you that this was flawless. That third quarter was empty.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You had an 11 play 28 yard drive that eats
- 10:44Speaker 1: half a quarter and gets you absolutely nothing. It's not
- 10:48Speaker 1: necessarily what you want to see, but when you have
- 10:50Speaker 1: a lead like you did, you'll live. LSU is going
- 10:55Speaker 1: to hit a stretch of this season that's a lot tougher.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Auburn is likely a better team than we thought, but
- 11:00Speaker 1: you're going to play a lot better competition than this,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and you can't just take a quarter off.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Now, that's a fixable problem.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Losing eight straight on the road, to me, that's more
- 11:10Speaker 1: of a culture problem, and one of those just got fixed.
- 11:14Speaker 2: So where does that leave everybody?
- 11:16Speaker 1: Auburn's now 4-3, and this was the first time in
- 11:18Speaker 1: Alex Golish's season that they actually got blown out. The
- 11:21Speaker 1: other losses to Florida and Tennessee, they were very competitive,
- 11:24Speaker 1: and this one wasn't. It doesn't get easier. They head
- 11:27Speaker 1: to Oxford next week to face No. 7 Ole Miss.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Four straight ranked opponents for them. Was the Georgia win
- 11:32Speaker 1: the start of something or the peak? We're going to
- 11:35Speaker 1: find out for them. LSU 6-2, and they get a
- 11:38Speaker 1: week off. which is great, and it always happens this
- 11:41Speaker 1: way because what's waiting on the other side of that
- 11:43Speaker 1: bye week is not a trap game. It's the opposite
- 11:46Speaker 1: of a trap game. It's the one that everyone circled.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Alabama in Death Valley on November 7th. Two weeks to
- 11:52Speaker 1: heal up, to get healthy, to figure out that third quarter.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Two weeks to sit with the fact that the thing
- 11:57Speaker 1: that's haunted this team for two years is finally gone.
- 12:00Speaker 1: LSU walked into the trap today, and they walked right
- 12:02Speaker 1: back out with the key. What they do against Alabama.
- 12:06Speaker 1: With already having two SEC losses, both of these teams
- 12:10Speaker 1: will tell us everything about the Tigers and the Crimson
- 12:13Speaker 1: Tide going forward. We appreciate you guys for tuning in.
- 12:16Speaker 1: We appreciate our friends over at PrizePix. We're all new
- 12:18Speaker 1: users who play a $ 5 lineup and win. Get 150
- 12:21Speaker 1: in lineups instantly if they use code HMA. We'll see
- 12:24Speaker 1: you guys on the next one here on SEC and
- 12:26Speaker 1: college football addiction.
