- 3:15and BiotechScene saw significant funding boosts, with the top five companies securing a combined
- 3:21$570 million. These investments are set to propel advancements
- 3:27in fields like precision cancer treatments and AI for healthcare.
- 3:33Siana Therapeutics leads the pack, raising $182 million for cystic fibrosis treatments.
- 3:42Clast Therapeutics follows, with $150 million for cancer immunotherapies.
- 3:49Fog Pharma's $145 million will further solid tumor treatments.
- 3:56Lastly, Overjet, focusing on dental AI, secured $53 million and CodaMatrix, which streamlines
- 4:05medical coding with AI, raised $40 million.
- 4:14Now on to sports. Ronald Blanco, at 30 years old, achieved a
- 4:19historic milestone by pitching the earliest no-hitter in Major League Baseball history,
- 4:25leading the Houston Astros to a 10-0 win against the Toronto Blue Jays.
- 4:31This remarkable feat occurred on April Fool's Day, surpassing Hideo Nomo's 2001 record
- 4:38by three days. Blanco, who first entered the Major Leagues
- 4:43at 28, filled in for injured ace Justin Verlander and demonstrated his skill with a standout
- 4:49change-up. His performance not only marked the 17th no-hitter
- 4:54in Astros history, but also highlighted an extraordinary week for Blanco, which included
- 5:00witnessing the birth of his second child. Have a day, big guy!
- 5:06Last night in local sports, the Red Sox on the road beat the Athletics in extra innings
- 5:135-4, and the Bruins on the road beat the Predators 3-0.
- 5:20Tonight the Red Sox remain on the road, playing the Athletics, and the Celtics are at home
- 5:27to take on the Thunder. In top news, Tesla experienced its first annual
- 5:35sales drop since the pandemic began, with deliveries falling by 100,000 from the previous
- 5:42quarter. This decrease reflects the growing competition
- 5:46in the electric vehicle market, notably from Chinese and Western manufacturers. Despite
- 5:53efforts to maintain profitability through price cuts, Tesla's profit margins and stock
- 5:58value have been impacted. The company cited challenges, including production
- 6:03adjustments and external disruptions, but the broader issue remains the intensifying
- 6:09competition, especially from BYD, which briefly surpassed Tesla in EV sales. Despite these
- 6:17setbacks, Tesla reclaimed its title from BYD, which saw a more significant sales drop.
- 6:24Meanwhile, traditional automakers are advancing in the EV space, introducing new models and
- 6:31capturing market share, further pressuring Tesla's dominance.
- 6:37In business news, over the past three years, China and Hong Kong stock markets have experienced
- 6:44a staggering $5 trillion drop in market capitalization, surpassing the entire value of the Indian
- 6:52stock market, as reported by HSBC. This significant decline contrasts sharply
- 6:58with the performance of Indian stocks, which have seen robust growth and optimism, further
- 7:04highlighted by India hosting the most IPOs in 2023.
- 7:10The National Stock Exchange of India has notably ascended to become the world's fourth largest
- 7:15stock exchange, underscoring the country's growing financial influence. Conversely,
- 7:21China's economic challenges, particularly in its real estate sector, and skepticism
- 7:27around meeting its growth targets, have contributed to the downturn in its markets. This dynamic
- 7:33shift emphasizes India's rising prominence in the global investment landscape.
- 7:40In crypto movement, Bitcoin is now just above $66,000. Ethereum is at $3,300. And Solana
- 7:50is $188. Moving on to a more local vibe.
- 7:57In our community spotlight on health and wellness, we are working with a National Pilates
- 8:03studio to bring you some free classes, so listen up.

- 8:35sure to tell them, Sunny Morning sent you by.
- 8:40And now, back to the show.
- 8:43Let's talk science. The Earth's rotation, which influences time measurement, is experiencing
- 8:49a complex interaction between acceleration due to the planet's liquid outer core, and
- 8:56deceleration from global warming effects on the polar ice caps. This dynamic has postponed
- 9:03the potential need to remove a leap second until around 2028 or 2029, a measure considered
- 9:09due to the Earth's speeding rotation. Historically, the Earth's rotation has slowed, with days
- 9:16lengthening over billions of years. However, recent trends suggest a leap second might
- 9:23need to be subtracted to adjust for this acceleration. Climate change by melting polar ice and redistributing
- 9:31mass is slowing the rotation of the Earth slightly, delaying this unprecedented adjustment.
- 9:38Leap seconds have been added since 1972 to synchronize atomic time and Earth's rotational
- 9:45time, but their future is uncertain, with plans to eliminate them by 2035.
- 9:53And in entertainment news, John Stewart revealed that Apple intervened to prevent Federal Trade
- 10:01Commission Chair Lena Kahn from appearing on his Apple TV Plus show, The Problem with
- 10:07John Stewart, and discouraged discussions on artificial intelligence. This disclosure aligns
- 10:13with earlier reports of creative disagreements leading to the show's cancellation, highlighting
- 10:19tensions over potential guests, and sensitive topics like China and AI.
- 10:26Stewart, who returned to the Daily Show, shared these insights during an interview with Kahn,
- 10:31underscoring Apple's caution against content that might provoke controversy, especially
- 10:36around topics like AI, which is poised to play a significant role in the company's
- 10:41future product updates.
- 10:44Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day. And today, our quote comes from
- 10:52John Stewart himself. The host of the Daily Show said,
- 10:56If you don't stick to your values when they're being tested, they're not values. They're
- 11:02hobbies. Shots fired, John. What a savage.
- 11:10And that's a wrap for this morning. You can check out our Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok
