- 0:20DJ Kast One: really skip through a 12 page PowerPoint? In
- 0:22L. Boogs: three, two, one. I'm DJ Enuff. I'm DJ
- 0:26DJ Camilo: Camilo.
- 0:27L. Boogs: I'm DJ Kast One. And I'm Len Boogs, a.k.a. L. Boogs. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, everyone worldwide, this is the heavy hit of DJs podcast.
- 0:42L. Boogs: Sir. And welcome once again to another episode of the Heavy Hitter DJs podcast. Crowd Mover and Boogs.
- 0:50L. Boogs: That's Camilo Boogs. Help, Boogs.
- 0:53DJ Camilo: We here. Yes, sir. We got Camilo
- 1:09DJ Sharad: basically Long Island at this point. Oh, no.
- 1:10DJ Camilo: We came in Queens. Hold on. What part of Queens? What part of Queens? So
- 1:15DJ Sharad: I lived in LeFrak at birth. Okay. Alright.
- 1:19DJ Sharad: We lived on 55th Ave, and then I lived by 108th Street. Well, my temple was at 108th Street. Mhmm. So Back in the days, you
- 1:27DJ Camilo: ever bumped into N.O.R.E. and No. And those
- 1:30DJ Kast One: guys Yo. Camilo Camilo's doing the queen's check.
- 1:33L. Boogs: Uh-huh. Okay. You were just okay. I was
- 1:35DJ Sharad: I was a baby, you know, and then when we we moved out to Long Island when I was very young.
- 1:40DJ Sharad: And then when I went to college, went back to Queens, and I went to Saint John's. So Oh, Saint John's University. Okay. Well,
- 1:46L. Boogs: well, we welcome you, my man. And and not only are you a DJ exec, but you you a businessman. You're an entrepreneur, and we won't get into all that right now.
- 1:54L. Boogs: So okay. So Queens wait. I gotta ask.
- 1:56L. Boogs: There's some Queens people are you a Mets fan?
- 1:59DJ Sharad: No.
- 2:00L. Boogs: Oh, yeah. Oh, really? Wow.
- 2:04DJ Camilo: That's why I moved to Long Island.
- 2:08DJ Sharad: Long Island's full of Mets fans. It's crazy.
- 2:10DJ Kast One: That's a fact. I think there's more Mets fans in Long Island than in Queens, to be honest with you. That that is a
- 2:15DJ Sharad: thing.
- 2:16DJ Sharad: Baseball to me is very simple. If if the Mets are if the Mets Mets are going to win the World Series, I'll root for them. If the Yankees are going to win the World Series, I'll root for them.
- 2:26DJ Sharad: And I know that's Yeah. That's that's I'm not a real baseball fan. So But you're
- 2:30L. Boogs: a Knicks fan for me. I'm a New
- 2:31DJ Sharad: York fan. I'm definitely a Knicks fan.
- 2:33DJ Sharad: 100%.
- 2:34L. Boogs: He's a Knicks fan for real for real.
- 2:35DJ Sharad: Heavy. Heavy Knicks fan. Yep. So,
- 2:38L. Boogs: Sharad, what what year Enuff. I don't know anybody. What what year was it that you joined this immaculate amazing crew? What year was that?
- 2:46DJ Sharad: I got put down in 2021, but I feel like I've been down since, like, 2012.
- 2:55DJ Sharad: In my heart in my heart, I've been rocking.
- 2:59DJ Sharad: But, you know, I finally got the call in'21 from Coz. Coz said Coz just texted me one day and said, yo.
- 3:07DJ Sharad: Send me a picture, pop. I said, for what, bro?
- 3:10DJ Sharad: And he said, just send me a picture, and that was that. And then I told my wife, and I was like, but I don't know. So, like, I don't wanna get my hopes up.
- 3:21DJ Sharad: And I just left it at that. And then But it was for a minute because
- 3:23L. Boogs: I remember your name your name bouncing around in conversation here and then, and you would you because you have another situation going on that you would hire some of us, etcetera, and, like, trying to build something. Like, I remember you like, yo. I remember I reached out to Sharad one time. I was like, yo, man. Put me on these the weddings and them parties and private jewelry. He goes, why you wanna do what we do? Because we wanna do what you guys do. You know what saying? He couldn't get it through his head. Like, why the hell you wanna do this? I wanna be on the radio, on the club. Uh-uh.
- 3:52L. Boogs: Then Enuff. Right? Enuff. You you had a convo with E or something like that?
- 3:56DJ Sharad: Yeah. Juggernaut Juggernaut connected me and and E, and I had this whole presentation made.
- 4:05DJ Sharad: You know, it was like, oh, my wife was corporate. My wife, you know, she worked at JPMorgan. She worked at Bloomberg. So she was super corporate.
- 4:12DJ Sharad: And she was like, you can't just go to a meeting with DJ Enuff. He's a legend. You can't just talk. You gotta have a presentation.
- 4:17DJ Sharad: So we made a whole 12 page PowerPoint
- 4:21DJ Kast One: Oh, graphs and charts. I have that. I'm
- 4:23DJ Sharad: gonna find it one day. A bring it.
- 4:24DJ Sharad: I'm a show you guys. But bottom line is that was 2012.
- 4:29DJ Sharad: And, you know I have a question. What's up?
- 4:34DJ Kast One: Did Enuff really snip through a 12 page PowerPoint? Yeah. Yeah. It was I think Enuff
- 4:39DJ Sharad: was there. Jug was there.
- 4:41DJ Sharad: Freddie P was there. Wow. I'm impressed. V might have been there too. I don't remember if any was there. But That means he
- 4:48DJ Kast One: really liked you, bro. Facts. Yo. So you
- 4:50L. Boogs: know, he was through the whole the I
- 4:52DJ Sharad: was limited. Do the whole presentation?
- 4:55DJ Enuff: Yo. I'm a tell you the truth now.
- 4:57L. Boogs: Here we go. Here we go. Let's get to it. Here we go.
- 5:00DJ Enuff: Sure. I saw the role podcast that you did. Good great job anyway by that. Thank you.
- 5:06DJ Enuff: And you rep you rep this, you know, very proudly, and we love your story.
- 5:10DJ Enuff: Now in the podcast, he mentions how after his wife gave me the PowerPoint presentation, we talked for a second, and then it just went ice cold and went dead.
- 5:22DJ Enuff: Right?
- 5:23DJ Enuff: And then a bunch of years went by,
- 5:26DJ Sharad: nothing happened. Rod?
- 5:29DJ Enuff: Now the reason why nothing happened because, honestly, I was afraid of you.
- 5:34DJ Enuff: I was very afraid of you, my brother, because you had organization with your DJ USA brand and how he was running that company that I said, this guy could come in here and just take Heavy Hitters away from me at the at the click of it, whatever.
- 5:49DJ Enuff: But what I didn't put together was how much of a asset you really Right. Could be to the organization as opposed to be being afraid of you.
- 5:57DJ Enuff: Mhmm. So it took a few months and a few times you just continuing and continuing to hold Heavy Hitters down, to hold me down, to hold whatever it was down, that I was like, this is a
- 6:11DJ Kast One: good guy. Right. Right. And, you know, I
- 6:13DJ Enuff: I shouldn't be afraid of him. I should just I should just honestly embrace him and then and, you know, bring him down with down with the clan. Yo,
- 6:21DJ Camilo: Sharad, thank you for not taking the crew and running away with it. But wait. Wait.
- 6:25L. Boogs: Wait.
- 6:26L. Boogs: Before the embrace before the embrace, who the fuck should Sharad think he is trying to fuck with my crew? I will punch him in the fucking face. And I was like, excuse me. Why are we talking
- 6:39DJ Sharad: like this? Excuse me? What? Where is this coming from? I've held that in my hey.
- 6:43L. Boogs: I've held that in my pocket for years.
- 6:45L. Boogs: Enuff was so mad at Sharad. He was like, yo. Who the fuck? I will punch him in the fist. I was like, wait a minute. He's a nice guy. He goes, nah, bro. Wow.
- 6:53L. Boogs: Yo.
- 6:54L. Boogs: So then when Enuff turns around and goes, I like the guy. I was like, first of all, you're crazy. But then I guess Wow. That that was the point that Enuff was like, nah. I shouldn't punch him in the face. I should embrace it because we're all gonna win together.
- 7:08L. Boogs: Was years ago. Enuff Enuff was really that upset at Sharad, but then I guess they saw the pluses and Enuff realized, like, he's not trying to take over. He's just trying to add something better to it. You know I'm saying?
- 7:20L. Boogs: Look at Sharad's believes in adding value anywhere
- 7:22DJ Sharad: I went. Like, I feel like you can't be in a place.
- 7:26DJ Sharad: Mhmm. Yo. Is it me or is Boogs freezing up, or is that just me? Yeah.
- 7:30DJ Kast One: Definitely freezing up. Boogs sounds like shit. Yeah.
- 7:32DJ Enuff: He does. Yeah. Boogs is always
- 7:34DJ Camilo: freezing up. He got that b x Wi Fi.
- 7:37DJ Sharad: Yeah. That Wi-Fi is crazy. Wait. Wait.
- 7:39DJ Kast One: Wait. Wait. Why does it have to be BX Wi-Fi? Why can't it just be Frank Dykman Wi-Fi? Wait. Wait a
- 7:45L. Boogs: minute. We have very good we have very
- 7:46DJ Kast One: good Wi-Fi in The Bronx, by the
- 7:48L. Boogs: way. I offended. Yo. Yo. Yo, man. Shut
- 7:50DJ Camilo: up. Is that bullshit is that bullshit Westchester
- 7:54L. Boogs: shit?
- 7:56DJ Camilo: Yo, Sharad, so you we need to know you need we need to know to other people what exactly you do. A lot. You know? Yeah. You got the DJ in front of Sharad, but people out there, and they don't know what you do. So tell tell everybody what you do. So first and foremost,
- 8:12DJ Sharad: I'm a DJ. I've always DJed. Like, before anything, before I got to do anything else in life, DJ. So I've been DJing since the mid nineties. I came up being a fan of hip hop, but I always was into Indian music and my own culture too.
- 8:31DJ Sharad: And when we were coming up you you might remember, like, 74th Street Jackson Heights. Like,
- 8:36DJ Kast One: we had one forget. We had one block.
- 8:38DJ Sharad: Like, it was all Latino around those blocks, but we had one block, 74th pretty much. And it would be like, we'd go there and we'd buy that would be our Indian spot. Yep. But surrounding it was all hip hop. Right? So I kinda lived this duality where I loved hip hop and I loved the culture. I grew up in a predominantly white area.
- 8:59DJ Sharad: And then I'm also repping my Indian shit, and I had to put it all together.
- 9:03DJ Sharad: And the only way I could do that was through music. Like, because now I'm able when I started DJing, I had the same records you had. You know? I had Onyx and Mobb Deep and Fu-Schnickens and Black Sheep and Das EFX, but I also had all the Indian shit.
- 9:21DJ Sharad: So I was always doing that together.
- 9:23DJ Sharad: And through DJing, early on, I just realized, like, I didn't wanna just DJ. I wanted to throw my own parties. Eventually, wanted to own my own sound. Everything I wanted to do, I wanted to always keep it in house, you know, and I always had a crew with me. And I actually came up, like, even, like, being a fan of Strictly Live.
- 9:43DJ Sharad: Like, I was a huge like, I remember those, you know, days when you were around, like, Uter and Dizwan and Spin Spin one. One and that that whole crew. Like, so we came up seeing that, but, you know, no one was checking for us. So a lot of the stuff I did was I emulated what Strictly Live was doing. I would emulate what the Heavy Hitters was doing, but I also made it a business, if that makes sense. Like, I just That's dope. And so
- 10:09DJ Kast One: when you you mentioned that, you know, like, I'm just I'm skipping a lot of things. But you mentioned that at some point, you started wanting to do your own parties and throw your own events. Mhmm. Now was that because it was hard to get into other events, or is that just because you wanted to exert control?
- 10:28DJ Sharad: The first couple parties I did, I got hired. I DJ'd.
- 10:33DJ Sharad: Like, I started in clubs. Be clear. Like, all you guys don't know me from that era. Camilo, you might remember, but you might not too, but I hired you in 1999.
- 10:43DJ Camilo: Wow. Webster Hall? No. Before that, I hired
- 10:46DJ Sharad: you in the hood in Jamaica at Caribbean Tropics.
- 10:49DJ Sharad: Oh.
- 10:50DJ Sharad: I hired you I brought I brought you to Caribbean tropics in 1999.
- 10:55DJ Sharad: Yes. I paid you $500 back then. How do you remember that? I do. I remember exactly how much I paid every one that I got them. Sharad might
- 11:04DJ Kast One: still have the invoice. There was no invoice,
- 11:07DJ Sharad: bro. Because we see he has it written
- 11:08DJ Kast One: down somewhere. Like, yo, Camilo, $5.
- 11:11DJ Kast One: He has the budget written down.
- 11:13DJ Sharad: Yeah. I I remember hiring you in 1999.
- 11:17DJ Sharad: It was you.
- 11:18DJ Sharad: It was a a West Indian DJ because I was a West Indian neighborhood, and I was East Indian. So but I also wanted to bring a Latin crowd in. I want to mix everything together. So I brought Camilo.
- 11:27DJ Sharad: I brought a DJ called DJ Sage, not the Sage that we know, but Sage who used to run Hot Wax on Jamaica Ave.
- 11:34DJ Sharad: Sage was a DJ for us, Camilo, and a West Indian DJ called DJ Hem and then my crew. And we opened up, and then we let Camilo and everybody else take the the main slots. But Right. Right.
- 11:46DJ Sharad: Right. Right. That was 99. And then again, I hired Camilo and Webster Hall.
- 11:50DJ Sharad: Here's a great thing too, which I don't know if you remember. You def you might not remember, but I called Camilo for a date once, and I said, yo, I need you to DJ this. It was a big ass Indian holiday, and Camilo was, like, scorching. I think that's when, like, lights out, you know, the reggaeton show was on, and reggaeton had become crazy, and Indians were really fucking with reggaeton.
- 12:11DJ Sharad: And he was like, yo. I'm booked. I'm in Miami. I was like, well, then who should I get?
- 12:16DJ Sharad: And right away, without question, you were like, yo. Call Enuff. I'm a set you up with Enuff.
- 12:21DJ Sharad: I don't know if you remember that. I
- 12:23DJ Camilo: I I don't. I remember what I saw, but I don't. But that that was always my thing. Like, you know, the next guy is, you know, according if Enuff couldn't do it, then there was somebody right behind him that, you know, that was down with the crew that I would that would I would pitch in as, you know, as it should be. You know what I'm saying? Now that Enuff do the gig? Because I can't So so you gave
- 12:44DJ Sharad: me Enuff's number.
- 12:46DJ Sharad: I called him, and then he never called me back.
- 12:51DJ Kast One: Still right? That sounds about right. And all
- 12:54DJ Sharad: the all the people that and all the people that I was doing the I was a DJ, but I was also the one booking the club. And then all the promoters were actually part of my team. So all the promoters are like, yo.
- 13:05DJ Sharad: We need flyers. We need to go. Like, this was before Instagram. We needed to go every college, every high school, everywhere, and just move the flyers.
- 13:13DJ Sharad: So we ended up booking Cipha Sounds, who did a good job, but it obviously wasn't it wasn't the middle of war. Know? Is
- 13:19DJ Camilo: great. Yeah. Yeah. But dude, man. So he'll
- 13:21DJ Sharad: remember those Indian parties too. You also like, this is real history shit. We were so into hip hop, and I had a big India Day Parade after party. Camilo DJ'd.
- 13:33DJ Sharad: And I said, yo. I need a artist.
- 13:35DJ Sharad: And Camilo is actually the one that facilitated MIMS for me. This this might come back in your head now, but MIMS had this is why I'm hot. This was scorching. He was scorching. Six, o seven ish. It was o six, o seven. Exactly. Yeah. So he got me MIMS, and I remember I paid MIMS $4,000 for that gig.
- 13:53DJ Sharad: Look at that. Hold on. Go go get
- 13:55DJ Kast One: the go find the Sharad budget. No. He
- 13:57DJ Sharad: had to look at it now. I'm telling
- 13:58DJ Kast One: you, bro. That's in my head. Lifted. How
- 14:00DJ Sharad: can you forget that stuff? You can't forget that type of stuff. Yeah. That's crazy.
- 14:05DJ Sharad: And he also brought Maino ended up coming to that party. Maino had 'Hi Hater'.
- 14:10DJ Sharad: And, you know, the DJs were supporting the Heavy Hitters so heavy at that time. I mean, the artists were supporting anywhere a heavy hitter was. Like, artists would just pull up.
- 14:18DJ Sharad: So we knew if Camilo was there that, you know, the hip hop community would just know about it, and that's what ended up happening. So Isn't that isn't that so interesting
- 14:26DJ Kast One: about New York the way, like, so many scenes are happening at one time? And if you're not involved in it, you might not even know what's happening. Like Right. I had no idea this was happening. Like You know?
- 14:35DJ Camilo: No one had zero idea. At first when Sharad would call me, I'd be a little skeptical. It's an Indian party. Like, what do I play? You know what I'm saying? They're like, not just do you. I'm like I
- 14:45DJ Sharad: know. Was crazy. But that's that's when I
- 14:47DJ Camilo: got to learn about, like, Punjabi and and what it meant. And then in Bangladesh, and and and they didn't get along with the Pakistani?
- 14:58DJ Camilo: Pakistani? Yes. Everyone had beef. Everyone had beef
- 15:02DJ Sharad: at some point. That was another thing. The
- 15:03DJ Camilo: Indian party, used to love to fight, bro.
- 15:06DJ Kast One: What?
- 15:07DJ Kast One: What? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. It would get
- 15:09DJ Camilo: crazy.
- 15:11DJ Camilo: It'd get crazy. But Kast, it was real
- 15:13DJ Sharad: gangs. It was gangs.
- 15:15DJ Kast One: Look at hold on. Let me write that down in the Sharad in the Sharad bio.
- 15:19DJ Kast One: Sharad gang members.
- 15:22DJ Sharad: I was down with all of them. That was the best part.
- 15:25DJ Kast One: Gang Denver.
- 15:26DJ Kast One: He updated the notetaker.
- 15:29DJ Kast One: But I got to learn I got to
- 15:30DJ Camilo: learn how how some songs, like, they just rock anywhere and everywhere. Like like like, back then, you know, obviously, you know, you play Panjabi MC, and everybody would light up the room. You know what I'm saying? Because it was a known record, but I got to learn, like, wow. This guy's playing all this other stuff that I never heard, and the crowd is going fucking nuts.
- 15:52L. Boogs: Really? And then ten minutes later, it's hip
- 15:54DJ Camilo: back to hip hop or reggae or the Diwali Mad reggae. Mad reggae. Like, reggae song.
- 15:58DJ Camilo: Yeah. Mad reggae. Yeah. All all the all
- 16:00DJ Sharad: the reggae that, like, Kast has on the mixtapes and all that, that's the same rhythms we play. Right. You know? We were just so in the cut in our own world Right. That, like, no one's I I keep telling people, like, no one was checking for us. Nobody believed us.
- 16:15DJ Sharad: Like, our gangs, the only people they will fight with was each other. Yep. Put them up against put them up against some Dominicans or some black dudes. No. We're not fighting.
- 16:24L. Boogs: We're good. Right. Right. Like, we would never
- 16:27DJ Sharad: fight outside our culture. We would never go outside our culture. You know what's crazy? Talking
- 16:31DJ Camilo: going back to Jackson Heights, 74th Street where that was, like, your strip. Right? Only
- 16:36DJ Sharad: street. But now it's multiplied times fucking
- 16:39DJ Camilo: three. I don't know. Like, it's it's not it's it's a bigger community now. It's But
- 16:44DJ Sharad: all all the Indians left.
- 16:46DJ Sharad: Right.
- 16:47DJ Sharad: See? Now it's on Nepali and Bangladeshi.
- 16:50DJ Camilo: Right. The Indians bounced. And we look the
- 16:53DJ Sharad: same. We're all brown. Right. But we moved out and then they moved in.
- 16:57DJ Sharad: Right. So, like, we go there. We don't know anybody anymore. Back to Sharad that's one
- 17:01L. Boogs: of the things, though, because obviously Camilo, because when you go to a Sharad event, like, you get all that out of it, bro.
- 17:07L. Boogs: Like like, Sharad will play his his vibe, and then you throw the hip hop on, and then he'll bring out a drummer, then he'll bring out a fire thrower. Like and it all mashes up together perfectly, bro. And like you said, people not checking for you made you look like, yo. We got some shit over here, dawg. You know what I mean? So, like, your brand of entertainment, bro, it's like it's in a class by itself, and I think that's pretty fire the way you move. And, like, you give us your culture through the music, basically, and then you teach everybody else like, yeah. But we also fuck with this queen shit, this Brooklyn shit.
- 17:40L. Boogs: Know I'm saying? And that's commendable, bro.
- 17:43DJ Enuff: All day.
- 17:44DJ Enuff: The first time I ever seen an Indian party, like, for real, for real, was I used do this thing in Toronto called Caribana. Right?
- 17:52DJ Sharad: Yeah.
- 17:53DJ Enuff: And rest in peace to Fatman Scoop.
- 17:56DJ Enuff: Me and Fatman Scoop, he's like, yo. He used to call me Spanish. Yo. Spanish.
- 18:01DJ Enuff: Before we go to your party, come with me to my party one time. So I was like, alright. Let's go. Go to his party. It's all Indian.
- 18:10DJ Enuff: I'm like, what the fuck is this? Unplug it. But then Scoop performs Crazy. His greatest hits.
- 18:18DJ Enuff: Yo. The fucking party loses its fucking Bananas upside down. It's like a fucking circus in there.
- 18:27DJ Enuff: And I was like, holy shit.
- 18:29DJ Enuff: This is crazy.
- 18:31DJ Enuff: And I never I never knew the importance of, like, you brown guys doing your fucking thing. And then years later, Sharad comes to my crib and hands me a Jay Z album on vinyl.
- 18:45DJ Enuff: Remember that? Yeah.
- 18:47DJ Sharad: My man did it. So what was the
- 18:49DJ Enuff: what was the what was the the project?
- 18:51DJ Sharad: That was Jay z. They took all Jay z classics and put them over Indian beats. There was Fire. There was another producer. I forgot who did it. They did Jay Z over the Beatles. Remember that? Yeah.
- 19:03DJ Enuff: Yeah. Yeah. And that was kinda, like, inspired
- 19:06DJ Sharad: by my man, Kunal, who's one of the biggest Indian house producers in the world right now. My man, Kunal, did hip hop, Indian Indian hip hop beats with Jay z. It was a bull leg, but You know? Like a a the the
- 19:20DJ Enuff: The Grey Album or some shit like that?
- 19:22DJ Sharad: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, okay.
- 19:24DJ Sharad: It was right after that. Fire.
- 19:26DJ Camilo: So how many times have you been to how many times you've to India to DJ?
- 19:31DJ Camilo: Twice.
- 19:32DJ Camilo: Tell us that. Like, what what's the world like out there? What are they what are they fucking with? What are they into?
- 19:38DJ Sharad: So one time I went because people from America brought me there. So that was, like, all Indians from here. Going there, they rented out a castle and did a massive three day event. Work. Another time I got hired from there.
- 19:55DJ Sharad: But when you when you go there, the amount of labor is very cheap. Like so when I landed, I had a whole receiving party for me.
- 20:07DJ Sharad: You know, it's like when you've gone to Asia, it's like, they just walk you through the airport. Yeah. It's just like like There's
- 20:12DJ Camilo: fucking three vans outside. You're like a king.
- 20:15DJ Sharad: Like, when you come there, you're like a king. Like, anything. The red carpet is rolled out.
- 20:20DJ Sharad: I had this is right when Serato came out. It was, like, 2008, 2009, and I take my laptop.
- 20:27DJ Sharad: For every wire that I had to plug into the mixer, there was one guy to do that. So, like, it was the Serato box, the SL 1. So imagine, like, there's five dudes trying to hook up my SL 1.
- 20:40L. Boogs: No one knows what the fuck to do,
- 20:41DJ Sharad: but they all wanna be part of it and help you. Right. Right. So, like, one guy's taking one RCA wire.
- 20:47DJ Sharad: One guy's taking another RCA wire. That's just another And other guys nuts, bro. The best part, they couldn't get it working because, like, Serato was still sewn due.
- 20:58DJ Sharad: So they could've and I'm tech. Like, I'm not that tech smart. Like, I'm not really that tech. So, like, collectively, between them five, six guys that were hooking up my Serato and me, it might have took in, like, forty five minutes. We couldn't figure it out.
- 21:11DJ Sharad: And I ended up having to go aux out for a whole gig in India because my Serato wasn't working. It was one of the toughest DJ experiences ever. Talk about that.
- 21:21DJ Camilo: Like, that I used to hate that shit.
- 21:23DJ Camilo: Walking to when we first converted to Serato, bro, walking with that box and getting behind that mixer while the other DJ was on trying to figure shit out, bro, that was the worst the worst. Like, I was like, I can't fuck. I'll go back to records and shit. I used to hate that shit.
- 21:39L. Boogs: You might have unplugged too long shit.
- 21:41DJ Camilo: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. A 100%. So so
- 21:44DJ Sharad: listen. I'm at this gig. I'm DJing for a very famous Indian actor.
- 21:48DJ Sharad: It's his event, and I'm aux out I'm aux out from the headphone jack with, like, a single Serato. Like, you couldn't even do the two thing in Serato yet.
- 21:59DJ Sharad: You couldn't even have a left deck and a right deck.
- 22:02DJ Sharad: So I'm aux out. And then while that's happening, I have a second laptop. My man's with me, and he's burning me CDs Oh my lord. Off the thing so I could do the rest of the gig with, like, five five or six CDs.
- 22:14DJ Sharad: Figured it out, though. You figured it out.
- 22:17DJ Sharad: Yeah. Absolutely. So now I travel anywhere I go, I travel with two laptops.
- 22:21DJ Sharad: If I don't travel with two laptops, I travel with a second person who's a DJ.
- 22:25DJ Sharad: I never go anywhere by myself to DJ.
- 22:27DJ Sharad: And if I do, I have two laptops because of these experiences that we get in life. We've all been there. Right? Yep. We've all been there, like, some technical bullshit Yeah. That you just can't figure out, and
- 22:39DJ Kast One: I'm it's I'm kamikaze cats. I'm not doing none of that.
- 22:42DJ Kast One: I'm hoping to god I'm hoping to god everything works out. When I used to have vinyl
- 22:47DJ Camilo: and try it with vinyl, I would have my five crates, but there was always, like, your crate might not make it the second or third crate. So I always had a bag with me just in case bag.
- 22:58DJ Sharad: Yeah. Happened. That way, I could at least
- 22:59DJ Camilo: get through fucking thirty minutes of, you know, whatever the situation is. Yeah, you always gotta be ready for anything at that point. Carrying two laptops back then, you know, that was the work that have. The during the during
- 23:11L. Boogs: the CD times precisely, and I got booked
- 23:14DJ Enuff: of gigs. When I owe Boogs.
- 23:16L. Boogs: What?
- 23:18L. Boogs: Hey. In human form. But, yo, Precise and I I just bought cash when I owe
- 23:23DJ Enuff: Boogs. I'm just saying. Hey. It worked out
- 23:25L. Boogs: for you, Yo.
- 23:27L. Boogs: Precise and me showed to the gig. Yo.
- 23:29DJ Sharad: They had no equipment.
- 23:32L. Boogs: They had no equipment. Precise had to DJ with two Oh, yeah. With two CD Walkman joints, like, literally, and a mix. I was like, Precise.
- 23:40L. Boogs: You're a fucking genius, bro. Like, a genius.
- 23:44L. Boogs: And I had to do, like, the segue at least. Yo. But like I said, figured it out. You know what mean? Like, you know, you figured it out. Bring two humans with me instead. Yep.
- 23:53DJ Sharad: I got a question for you guys.
- 23:55DJ Sharad: How do you how both Kast, Enuff and Camilo specifically.
- 24:00DJ Sharad: How do you guys DJ in all the spots you DJ with and how did you adapt to this whole transition of really good equipment to having the shittiest, most beat up, fucked up controllers at the level you guys are at. You guys are the biggest in the world. I believe that.
- 24:20DJ Sharad: Right? So how do you go into these uptown spots and these Steinway spots that have all fucked up equipment and be comfortable?
- 24:29DJ Camilo: Listen. I, you know, I come from the era of vinyl, mixtapes.
- 24:34DJ Camilo: We've seen it done it all at this point. You know? So when you walk into a spot nowadays and and your fader's broken or your your your left side's not working, you kinda use you kinda got we went through boot camp.
- 24:48DJ Camilo: You know what I'm saying? Every day. We went through boot camp so we we know how to deal with that bullshit. And it's unacceptable, to be honest. It's really unacceptable.
- 24:57DJ Camilo: But when you in the hood, you just gotta rock. Well, there's no there's you got a crowd be in front of you. That's the only the the excitement, at least for me. It's we gotta get this shit done. Gotta make it work. You know?
- 25:08DJ Camilo: And and And you know what? Go ahead,
- 25:10DJ Kast One: Camilo.
- 25:11DJ Camilo: Honestly, it's 2026. We shouldn't be going through this, like Right. At all.
- 25:15DJ Camilo: But it is what it is, and execute and keep it fucking moving, bro. Bro, like,
- 25:20L. Boogs: hosting a whole party on a headphone is crazy, but we had to make sure. You
- 25:24DJ Kast One: know? It's actually part of of just being a DJ or or just being that's part of just what you do.
- 25:32DJ Kast One: Right? Like, sometimes you go you're gonna go certain place. You're not gonna have all the tools that you have that you want at your disposal to do your job. That goes with anything. You could be a mechanic, and you could show up somewhere, and they don't have the exact same tire iron they use. You gotta figure it out, mate. That's part of that's kinda like part of the gig. Like, whenever we travel a lot, of course, you might send a rider or whatever, but you never know what you're gonna walk into. Right? So you gotta have to be able to know how to do it all kinda sorta. You gotta be able to know, yo. I might be have to play internal at night. I know how to do that. I might have to play on one side today. I know how to do that. I might have to play with one turntable and this mic and just keep cutting it off. Blah blah blah blah talking my shit and then putting the other song on. It's just part about being adaptive.
- 26:13DJ Kast One: Yo. And it's something that I I also I was I always tell the younger DJs that you listen. Don't get too comfortable in your space.
- 26:20L. Boogs: Yeah, man. All
- 26:21DJ Kast One: the time, you're not gonna be in your space. And I go with anything, Turn DJing, life, whatever. You know what saying? You get too comfortable in your space. There's been scenarios
- 26:29DJ Camilo: where the left the left side is fine.
- 26:30DJ Camilo: The right side, the picture just doesn't work.
- 26:32DJ Camilo: 100%.
- 26:33DJ Camilo: Headphones don't work.
- 26:35DJ Camilo: Or the jack is like this and you every time you gotta just move the jack a little bit just to here, like, bro, it it you know? Yo. Done it all.
- 26:42DJ Kast One: Kept Sometimes sometimes you're gonna be walking in the city and it's gonna start raining. You got shorts and a t shirt on. Figure it out.
- 26:49DJ Kast One: You feel me?
- 26:51DJ Kast One: But it is. It sucks. It sucks. And
- 26:52DJ Camilo: not every not every gig is club live where everything's immaculate, and you have a sound man, and your shit is in in full force. And if that doesn't work, they have a backup. Not every club's like that. And you know what?
- 27:03DJ Camilo: I I like to call it hip hop.
- 27:05DJ Camilo: It's just hip hop. Like Sure. You know what I'm saying? It's hip hop. So when you go to these uptown gigs, it's it's just perfect that you say uptown because it happens uptown all the time. You just it's just hip hop, man, and you fucking keep them with no complaint.
- 27:17DJ Camilo: Now mind you, these are gigs that are not the biggest gigs in the world, but they're for me, they're important because Those are
- 27:24L. Boogs: important. Street. They're the street.
- 27:26DJ Camilo: You're not gonna get you get in the culture right there. You're getting the bottom of the pot.
- 27:31DJ Camilo: You know what I'm saying? And I love that shit. And now now that you say
- 27:35L. Boogs: culture, Sharad, real quick, do do you feel like you being a hip hop head and then representing your chords, do you have to work a little harder just to show people like, yo. I rap this and this together.
- 27:46L. Boogs: You know what I'm saying? Wait. Wait. I
- 27:47DJ Kast One: have one I'm sorry, Boogs. I'm sorry. I have one more thing to say on that topic about the mixes.
- 27:52DJ Kast One: There might be times where things that's immaculate and you just don't mess with. Like, as y'all know, I got beef with the DJ DJM-A9 whatever the hell that Pioneer I hate mixer.
- 28:03DJ Kast One: Yo. DJs give me shit for that. I I hate that mixer. That mixer is the worst mixer ever made, but people love it.
- 28:10DJ Kast One: Venues love it. DJs love it. A9.
- 28:12DJ Sharad: I hate the DJM-900.
- 28:15DJ Sharad: I hate those mixes. And and and production
- 28:18DJ Kast One: companies love using that mixer. So I show up, and I'm like, here we go. Anyway, go ahead. Sorry. I
- 28:23DJ Camilo: blame the sound man for that because the sound man, they think well, you know, it's actually awful, to be honest, because we should be ahead of the game. Like, what what do you have? No. I can't I hate that mixer. Let's not have it tonight. But the sound man think the newest, hottest, and cleanest sound is what every you know, what he wants, obviously. Because sound man bro, sound man hate controllers.
- 28:45DJ Camilo: They hate controllers. So do I. The the the the high-tech Club owners love them. Club
- 28:50DJ Sharad: owners love them. Club owners love them. High-tech
- 28:52DJ Camilo: guys can't stand it because they don't they don't produce enough power. They don't give you the best quality sound. But we love controllers because it's a one star Woah. Woah. Woah.
- 29:00DJ Kast One: Speak for yourself, buddy. Hey. Listen. It's a
- 29:02DJ Camilo: one stop shop. Most I'll do them. Most DJs love controllers. It's a one stop shop, man. You get the fucking shit done. Everything is there. Sound effects, pads, you know, feel feel great, man. Know. Just
- 29:13DJ Kast One: don't say we.
- 29:16DJ Sharad: We. He says we, he means me.
- 29:19DJ Kast One: Anyway, I'm sorry. We're sorry. Boogs, continue. Sorry.
- 29:22DJ Kast One: What's the hold on. Just the reason why
- 29:24DJ Sharad: I asked that question Uh-oh. Is because I just wanted to like, I knew where you're coming from because I know the clubs that you guys do, and I see what you guys do every single week.
- 29:34DJ Sharad: But when I start when I moved away from clubs, like, I got into the private game. And when I got into the when I got into the private event game, I was like, fuck this.
- 29:45DJ Sharad: Everything I do is gonna be, like, the top equipment. I'm never gonna have bullshit equipment.
- 29:50DJ Sharad: I'm always gonna have, like, whatever my mixer is, my CDJs, my turntables, whatever I want.
- 29:55DJ Sharad: So I got so used to playing on a set that's the exact height, that's exactly what I want, that's exactly what I need, that going out of that comfort zone was like a no no for me. And anywhere I'd went, I'd be like, yo. I need this, this, and this, and I have these specifications.
- 30:14DJ Sharad: Yeah. Eventually, I started, you know, hanging out around Clark Kent a lot. And when I was around Clark Kent, he had his rider, and he would send his rider out.
- 30:25DJ Sharad: And I remember going to spots with him, and his rider wouldn't be accurate or would be missing something. And he would just be like, cool.
- 30:34DJ Sharad: I'm gonna sit here, and you guys are gonna figure this out, And I'll just sit and wait. I already got paid because the money's coming in advance.
- 30:44DJ Sharad: I have nothing to prove, and I'm not here to work on shit that I don't wanna work on. So I either have my shit or I'm gonna sit right here and fucking hang the fuck out.
- 30:55DJ Camilo: And I Clark Kent, man, for sure. Bro,
- 30:58DJ Sharad: I adopted that mindset.
- 31:00DJ Sharad: I adopted that. I took that. I was like, fuck that.
- 31:03DJ Sharad: Wherever the fuck I go, I'm gonna have my shit, and I'm a make sure it's there.
- 31:09DJ Sharad: Only a year ago and I believe it's because I'm a Heavy Hitter.
- 31:14DJ Sharad: Only a year ago, I dropped that mentality, and I was like, fuck it. I gotta go places alone.
- 31:21DJ Sharad: I gotta play on these FLX10s and these bullshit ass fucking broken Steinway fucking mixers, and I I just started doing it. Yeah.
- 31:29DJ Sharad: And I'm like and my guys are like someone someone came up to me. He like, yo, Sharad. Why are you here right now playing on this set? I was at a club in Midtown recently, and I was just like, yo, I'm here.
- 31:38DJ Sharad: And the same reason is because I fuck with the people. And in order to stay close to the people, sometimes sometimes you have to drop your standards, and you have to be Right. And and
- 31:48DJ Camilo: Listen. There's a time and place for everything.
- 31:49DJ Camilo: There's a time when you can pull out your writer and say this is what I need if you want me. You know what I'm saying? You can't do that everywhere. So it's either you risk a gig you risk a gig or or you or you just go all in no matter what the fuck it is and and make it happen. Me, I don't like to stay home, bro. I get upset when I'm home. Clearly. Tycoon. Bro. You you said clearly.
- 32:12DJ Kast One: Listen. I love being at home. I love oh my god. I I I have a new squad and a group chat and, you know, with my guys, and we call the group chat enjoy your mortgage.
- 32:23DJ Camilo: Right. But but also
- 32:25DJ Kast One: to that point of going to clubs and do don't you find, like, Sharad, wasn't it fun, though? Wasn't it adventurous? Be like, yo.
- 32:31DJ Kast One: Will I be able to do this on this tonight?
- 32:34DJ Kast One: And at the end of the night, when you did do it, you're like, it can't fuck with me. I'm Sharad, baby. All out.
- 32:40DJ Sharad: Hook me up with this Bangladeshi promoter from Steinway.
- 32:43DJ Kast One: Okay.
- 32:44DJ Sharad: Named Russell Seven Star. I don't know if you know him from that. Oh, Rusto.
- 32:48DJ Kast One: I got Rusto. He's
- 32:50DJ Sharad: Bengali.
- 32:51DJ Sharad: You know, we're we're neighboring countries.
- 32:53DJ Sharad: He's like, yo, He's like, I'm Bengali, but I I really do Spanish and black parties.
- 32:58DJ Sharad: I don't really do desi parties, brown parties. So, you know, I wanna start it. Can you can you come to some of these spots and start DJing for me? So every time he would hit me, I'd be like, yo.
- 33:08DJ Sharad: Well, what what they got in there? And he'd send me some picture on WhatsApp, not even on a regular tone, WhatsApp, with some, like, bullshit ass fucking thing, and then I'd send that in my DJ USA chat. Be like, guys, does anyone have a driver for this? Does anyone know this? How do I use this? And then I'd find one ahead.
- 33:26DJ Sharad: I'd practice with it in my office, and then I'd go to the gig. And I'd go people be like, can I roll with you? I'd be like, nah. I'm going solo, and I'm a suck it out. Right.
- 33:35DJ Sharad: And I did that all the, like, year.
- 33:37DJ Sharad: All year, I've been doing that. This brings
- 33:39DJ Kast One: up something that's kind of been the elephant in the room that we haven't addressed yet.
- 33:42DJ Kast One: So at what point did you decide that you were gonna move from doing clubs and those kind of parties to having your own company and producing these events and just having this whole different mindset with everything?
- 33:58DJ Sharad: It wasn't a point. It was just like natural progression. Like, I was doing the same clubs. Like, I've heard, you know, you guys talk about, like, the CIN parties at deep and, like, that whole era. I was around that era. We had our own parties, but eventually, my crowd that was coming to my parties started hitting me to do private parties.
- 34:19DJ Sharad: And once it really got to the money, like, the money was just too different. Was just I mean, you're talking ten twenty x of what I'm getting in the club to get in a single night of a party 100%.
- 34:31DJ Sharad: Where it almost became like, how could I keep doing this when this is like, they're throwing it at you. And I'm like and it was natural progression.
- 34:42DJ Sharad: And then I started realizing, like, these people don't want, like, classical music at their shit. They still want hip hop. They want reggaeton. They want reggae. They want bhangra. They want Bollywood.
- 34:52DJ Sharad: And I have to bring that, plus I have to bring the sound, plus I have to bring the lie lighting, plus I have to bring the stage. Guess what? Everything was a line item. And that's where my business acumen was like, yo.
- 35:02DJ Sharad: I if you want me to DJ, it's this. If you want sound, it's this. If you want lighting, it's this. And so on and so forth. And it just got to the point where, like, I couldn't mentally and capacity wise do both anymore.
- 35:12DJ Sharad: And now I now the clubs I do, I don't look at it as a financial thing. It's I do it to get that itch out. Like, because I I still love doing it, but I'll hit a club once or twice a month max.
- 35:22DJ Camilo: Kast One, to answer your question, it was the bag.
- 35:26DJ Sharad: Yes. Yeah. I think I just said that.
- 35:28DJ Sharad: Buying the bag. But I enjoyed it too.
- 35:30DJ Camilo: But, you know, doing like I said, doing the clubs listen. When I'm getting into these venues, I already know what I'm going into.
- 35:35DJ Camilo: So I know it's a fucking hole in the wall. But, like, once again, it gets you close to the people.
- 35:40DJ Camilo: It gets you close to what the fuck you need to you learn right then and there. Oh, this is what's popping. They fuck with this.
- 35:46DJ Camilo: You can't get that nowhere else, bro. You can't go on YouTube. Tick yeah. You could get on TikTok. Oh, this shit is fucking a fire on TikTok. No doubt. But once you see it work on a dance floor, there's no other experience. There's no other homework.
- 35:59DJ Camilo: And that's that's why I do it. Yes.
- 36:01DJ Camilo: The bag is smaller. Yes. Listen. I've gotten I've gotten a gig at a bar mitzvah.
- 36:07DJ Camilo: Okay? We're talking about a couple of thousand dollars.
- 36:11DJ Camilo: You know what I'm saying? Easy money for 40 in a couple.
- 36:15DJ Camilo: Yeah.
- 36:16DJ Camilo: You know? And and how do you say no to that? You don't. What? Do I love Do I love it? No. But I go do it, get the bag, keep it fucking moving, and and then get back to my my regular program. And I understand, you know Sharad, like, explain to us, though, you got a company because I don't think people understand what your company does.
- 36:36DJ Camilo: And and maybe with some of the the the the the the shows that you've produced, like
- 36:42DJ Sharad: the baby.
- 36:43DJ Sharad: So the company I have started as a DJ agency, DJ USA.
- 36:49DJ Sharad: I told Enuff once. One time even a few months ago, was like, yo, E. I you know, you guys are still in the clubs and radio.
- 36:55DJ Sharad: I feel like I sold out a little bit. And I remember you telling me, like, no. You didn't sell out. Hell no. You you just set yourself up. I remember, like, Kim clearly telling me that. And at the end of the day, I started with me as a DJ.
- 37:08DJ Sharad: I couldn't DJ everywhere, but I was getting called to do all these private events.
- 37:12DJ Sharad: So then I looped all my friends friends in. All my friends who were DJing, I started bringing them up.
- 37:17DJ Sharad: And, eventually, what was just me DJing private events ended up becoming, like, a squad of us. 14 of us now, that's the DJ USA crew, all South Asian DJs, all really dope at what they do. It's like my crew. It's my crew. It's my crew that's not the Heavy Hitters. That's my own, like, community crew. And it's 14 of us, and I oversee bookings.
- 37:41DJ Sharad: I oversee everything that comes in, and it gets farmed out to the team and who's gonna deal with what. But it started with DJs.
- 37:47DJ Sharad: The DJs then led to everything else, sound, lighting, production.
- 37:51DJ Sharad: And after a while, corporate clients started to catch on.
- 37:55DJ Sharad: And I I landed some really good corporate clients when I was young. You guys all know BX Sports. I I've continually told the story. Of course. Yeah. BX Sports was the first guys that put me in the game with, like, the brand activations.
- 38:08DJ Sharad: And now I saw ding ding ding DJ USA. I'm doing the wedding stuff, but then BX Sports connected me Mhmm. To their shit. And when they put me into the game of that, that was a different kinda whole workflow, money flow, and it always was hip hop. It was never not hip hop. It was just hip hop done in a way that was digestible and easy for brands and people to invest in. So, you know, once I started working with b x sports, they connected me to Adidas. From there, it was like it would just became a web, and I started doing production for everything from I've done the Super Bowl events, NBA All-Star Weekend multiple years.
- 38:51DJ Camilo: What can I ask what's been your biggest event? Like, biggest and that that has be financially, but, like, what what's been your biggest, like, woah.
- 38:59DJ Camilo: We did this shit. My biggest event was
- 39:01DJ Sharad: probably producing everything full on for Megan Thee Stallion. Like, full ons built her stage, built her video out, built audio, built the lighting design, worked three, four months on a single day gig Wow.
- 39:20DJ Sharad: To just I mean, that that's a that's a multimillion dollar production. Production. Right. You know, that's probably the biggest gig that I produced, if you will.
- 39:28DJ Sharad: In terms of DJing, I've just DJed so much. So you know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But,
- 39:32DJ Camilo: like, production line. Includes stages, lighting.
- 39:35DJ Sharad: Everything. It's I mean, that's that's months of that security protocol.
- 39:39DJ Camilo: Right. That's her green room.
- 39:42DJ Sharad: That like, people don't see and understand what the BTS is of all this. Like, wait. She wants how many packs of Skittles?
- 39:50DJ Sharad: Like, that's filtering through us. You understand what I'm saying? It might not have been Skittles, but you understand what I'm saying. Like Yeah. It's
- 39:56DJ Kast One: very it's very, very technical, very detailed. That's the word that I'm looking at. And think a lot of
- 40:02DJ Camilo: people don't know that's these are the some of the things that you do. And that's why I wanted that's why I'm asking, like, people don't understand that or have no idea. You know what I'm saying? They don't, and I don't talk about
- 40:11DJ Sharad: it. And I've never really talked about it.
- 40:13DJ Sharad: And one thing my father always told me, and this is, like, this weird place I'm in, but my father would always be like, yo.
- 40:22DJ Sharad: Whatever you do, like, move in silence.
- 40:26DJ Sharad: Don't Oh. Don't put it out there. Don't talk about it. Just continue to just work and and and and feed your family. Right? So that was all my father's shit. Taking notes.
- 40:39DJ Sharad: And so for years, I've been behind the scenes on so much stuff.
- 40:43DJ Sharad: Like, when you work for companies and you work as a consultant for a brand like a Foot Locker, a Nike, an Adidas, a Champion, a Timberland, you get these six-figure budgets week in and week out. Week in and week out, they're handing you all this money.
- 41:01DJ Sharad: A part of what they're handing you is a job, and you're working for them. You're working on behalf of them. So you're almost like, in so many cases, NDA'd, not to say that you're doing this job or that you don't work for the company. I'm a consultant.
- 41:16DJ Sharad: I'm outside. I'm not their employee, but you're working on behalf of these people.
- 41:20DJ Sharad: So I did so much for twelve, thirteen years behind the scenes that it just became normal. It just became, like, every day. Like, I'm just behind the scenes, so I'm not building my own brand.
- 41:32DJ Sharad: And, honestly, after becoming a Heavy Hitter, I had to switch my mindset a little bit because multiple people were like, yo.
- 41:38DJ Sharad: Like, yo. You do all this shit. You don't really talk about it. You don't really put it out there. You don't market it.
- 41:43DJ Sharad: So that's why in the last three, four years, you'll see me put videos out about that stuff where before I wasn't doing that.
- 41:50DJ Sharad: I was just doing it low key, working on the back end behind the scenes, and kinda playing my role, if that makes
- 41:56DJ Camilo: sense. Now in 2026, you've done this so many years. Right? Have you seen business change? Have you seen corporate companies move different? Have you seen budgets get bigger, smaller?
- 42:05DJ Camilo: Have you seen maybe AI kind of affect your your your your your your business? You know? Like like, 2026, like, where we at?
- 42:18DJ Sharad: Me, personally, I think the money is there.
- 42:20DJ Sharad: You gotta just go find it. Right. I think there's I think we're all hustlers. Everybody on this call, everybody in this room, everybody in our crew work hustlers.
- 42:27DJ Sharad: We know how to figure it out. I think the business is changing, and I think every few years, there's a changing of the guard Guard. Or the changing of what's happening or implementing technology.
- 42:38DJ Sharad: Like like, even if you think back to something as simple as Serato, which is very complex, but, like, were all four of us on this call eager to jump on Serato the minute it came out?
- 42:50DJ Sharad: Were you eager to jump on Serato?
- 42:52DJ Camilo: No. Fuck no. I was the biggest hater.
- 42:54DJ Camilo: What
- 42:55DJ Sharad: about you, Kast?
- 42:56DJ Kast One: No. I wasn't. I wasn't until until well, honestly, it was e. It was two people. Until I wasn't eager about it until I saw it. Once I saw it, I was like, oh, this is gonna change the game. Right?
- 43:08DJ Kast One: And I think I've told that story before, whatever. We're down in Virginia, and we saw somebody that was on it. Actually, was Ronnie
- 43:13DJ Enuff: B. Was it Ronnie B? It was Ronnie
- 43:15DJ Kast One: B that was on it. Yeah. And, you know, we were down there doing a party for his birthday. It the first time I actually seen it in action.
- 43:21DJ Kast One: And Enuff was like, on the way back, he was like, yo, it's over for these records and CDs. We done with that shit. I'm buying a laptop as soon as we get to back to the city and we figuring this shit out. That was kinda it. You know what I'm saying? So now to your point, you're right. Like My point is you
- 43:35L. Boogs: have to kinda roll with the punches. We
- 43:37DJ Sharad: didn't embrace the technology yet. We're all forced to use the technology.
- 43:40DJ Sharad: Similarly, we're talking about the changing of the game, where is AI taking us.
- 43:46DJ Sharad: Right now in my company, I have 12 people that sit in my office every day.
- 43:50DJ Sharad: Every single day at the office, there's 12 of us. All those people demand a salary.
- 43:55DJ Sharad: Half of the stuff that's being done, I could put a couple of months of work into AI and and get rid of half those people.
- 44:02DJ Sharad: Right. At some point, I might have to.
- 44:04DJ Sharad: Right now, we're okay, but we're already we're already in the talks with the programmers of, yo. How do we automate this? How do we automate that? How do we do this?
- 44:13DJ Sharad: And it's already happening. So I feel like we have to change with the times and implement the technology where we have to as and that goes across with any the whole vertical of who you're working with. Like, if you're working with a client, like, they're gonna expect things faster and cheaper because they know that this deck you used to charge me $10,000 for creative, I could put this shit in in in
- 44:38DJ Kast One: ChatGPT. GPT, whatever, and
- 44:39DJ Sharad: get a deck in five minutes. How are you charging me $10,000 for this? Right. Like, literally, there's there's a hip hop artist that whose name I won't mention, who hired me.
- 44:50DJ Sharad: I charged them$10,000 to do design work for a studio that they wanted to build.
- 44:57DJ Sharad: And they gave me a deposit.
- 45:00DJ Sharad: My team did a fucking amazing studio design for this person, and the deal was at the end when you approve the design, I get my money.
- 45:09DJ Sharad: As soon as they saw the final design, they took it.
- 45:13DJ Sharad: They're like, thank you.
- 45:14DJ Sharad: They didn't use it, so now they're saying they don't like it.
- 45:18DJ Sharad: And they're like, we're not paying you the balance. And then a day later, their studio gets designed in AI and fucking built. And Wow. Wow.
- 45:28DJ Camilo: And It's the game. But but you now you live and learn, and now you know, you know, what what's out there and what could happen. So Facts. You know, you gotta go you gotta go through the motions to just to learn, like, okay.
- 45:40DJ Camilo: This ain't this ain't happening again. I bet you won't happen again.
- 45:44DJ Sharad: No. Because I don't work for rappers anymore.
- 45:53DJ Sharad: Damn.
- 45:56DJ Kast One: It's raining. Out here. Yeah. It's tough. It's
- 45:58DJ Camilo: tough out there. It's tough. It's a challenge.
- 45:59DJ Sharad: Unless the manager I'm dealing with someone else.
- 46:01DJ Sharad: I'm not going directly to no rapper. It's just it's not happening.
- 46:05DJ Camilo: Right. So what's what's in the future for DJ USA?
- 46:08DJ Camilo: I mean, do you see, like, next level or what's the next goal? Or I mean, you know? No. We're still rocking. I think
- 46:14DJ Sharad: the best thing that we just were able to do is buy a building.
- 46:21DJ Sharad: Oh, yeah. I was renting for the whole career. I was always renting, and I would put a lot of money into these spots I was renting.
- 46:28DJ Sharad: COVID hit, and my landlord, who was also a friend of mine, I asked him for rent reduction or a way to pay the rent later. He said, absolutely not. I gotta pay a mortgage.
- 46:39DJ Sharad: I'm like, bro, I've been renting for you for twenty years. Like, you can't cut me some slack? My I'm a DJ. My business is over. We have no money for the next god, no you remember COVID? Like, no one knew what the fuck. I thought. I
- 46:50DJ Camilo: got a story too. Yeah. Yeah. So
- 46:53DJ Sharad: my bottom line is my landlord gave me no rent reduction and was like, look. If you wanna leave, you could leave. I said, just like that, I just put hundreds of thousand dollars into building this place out a few years ago, and now you're telling me, like, because I can't pay the rent, I gotta leave?
- 47:09DJ Sharad: He's like, no. You can leave. But if you wanna stay, you gotta pay me in full. So me and my team took that as a disrespect, and we didn't like that.
- 47:16DJ Sharad: So we ended up renting this little small little spot, which, Kast, you've been to. Enuff's been here.
- 47:22DJ Sharad: It's a small little spot in Long Island, and that was a temporary spot with the intention to always buy. Finally, we we got the right deal.
- 47:29DJ Sharad: We bought a building, and I think You
- 47:31DJ Enuff: want my office in there yet? Yeah. Well,
- 47:33DJ Sharad: you use the whole building is yours, bro.
- 47:35DJ Sharad: Right. And this is the truth Here's here's something very I haven't heard of this
- 47:40DJ Enuff: shit.
- 47:41DJ Sharad: Here's a very, very, very, very true thing.
- 47:43DJ Sharad: And I built this place so we have a ground floor, which is our office for the team. There's extra offices in inside that building because we know we're gonna And we know that if anybody needs the space for whatever, a client meeting, anything, you like, you have access.
- 48:01DJ Sharad: Kast is like, yo. I don't wanna be at home today. I just wanna come sit in the office and, you know, do my label stuff there or whatever. It's available.
- 48:09DJ Sharad: I have a warehouse, but then above all that, I have three rooms, which is right now a kitchen, a room, and another room.
- 48:16DJ Sharad: That I already got the cosign. I don't know if you heard, but we're gonna have our own studio in there, and I wanna implement like, I want it to be the heavy hitter studio where we have had to all day, every day, you know, twenty twenty four hours a day where, you know, podcast space, vocal vocal booth. Camilo, we don't like that.
- 48:38DJ Enuff: We love that. We love that. Full digital
- 48:40DJ Sharad: workstation.
- 48:42DJ Sharad: And then separately, what I was always doing with my DJ USA studio, which is, like, the DJ content.
- 48:47DJ Sharad: So collectively
- 48:48DJ Camilo: Sounds like a place where we'd be be shooting the new Heavy Hitter podcast.
- 48:52DJ Camilo: Listen. I mean, that's that's what we're doing
- 48:54DJ Sharad: it for. And, like, a lot of people talk about stuff. I'm with it. I'm with
- 48:57DJ Enuff: it. A lot of people talk and say
- 48:59DJ Sharad: they want they want to, I wanna do this, we're gonna do this.
- 49:03DJ Sharad: We anything I talk about, I will bring it to existence. I will it will never be discussed by me if I'm not really doing it. Kast knows. Like, me and Kast have talked so much. Like And that's that's
- 49:15DJ Kast One: I I actually was gonna bring that up and ask you that question as far as executing.
- 49:20DJ Kast One: Like, how difficult it is. Because for some people, it's very difficult to visualize something and get from the visualization point to the actual executing point.
- 49:31DJ Kast One: Have you ever, like, felt barriers doing that or you just go all the time?
- 49:36DJ Sharad: You gotta have no fear.
- 49:38DJ Sharad: You gotta trust people. You gotta have a team.
- 49:42DJ Sharad: You gotta believe in your team.
- 49:44DJ Sharad: If your team says they're gonna do it, you gotta take it for face value. If if I got a guy that's with me and he says, yo, like, I could get that fixed. I could do that. Then you gotta believe him. And you gotta until they prove you otherwise, put the team in play and let everybody rock. You could be the visionary.
- 49:59DJ Sharad: You could have the goal. You you also should be able to get down and do the work yourself because there's been many times, like, I'll sweep my own floor. I'll clean the the toilets in my in my building.
- 50:10DJ Camilo: Yep. So someone the other day fucking left
- 50:12DJ Sharad: my bathroom a mess. It was a Friday.
- 50:14DJ Sharad: And I was like, yo. What the fuck is that? I was the last one in the office. I'm like, fuck this shit. I'm a just clean it myself.
- 50:20DJ Sharad: And so a young employee came. He was like, yo. The cleaning lady's coming tomorrow. I'm like, this shit can't wait. This is nasty.
- 50:26DJ Sharad: And, like, that's that's my mentality in everything.
- 50:29DJ Sharad: Like, you have to be able to do the bottom level shit and still be able to execute the highest of high level shit. Like, I deal with CEOs.
- 50:38DJ Sharad: I'll deal with the janitor the same way.
- 50:40DJ Sharad: Ultimately, like, they're all on your team. You gotta figure it out. That's why you're you're successful,
- 50:45DJ Camilo: Sharad. Right. And that's that's that's one of
- 50:48DJ Kast One: the things that stands out also because I don't specifically remember when or how we met.
- 50:55DJ Kast One: But what I do remember day we met.
- 50:57DJ Kast One: Okay. So you could tell that story. But what I do remember is everybody around me telling me, you need to meet this guy.
- 51:05DJ Kast One: Oh, you don't know this guy? You need to meet this guy. Like, that was fat fingers.
- 51:10DJ Kast One: That was Clark Kent. That was even Enuff at a certain point. Oh, you don't know you don't you don't Sharad? You know I'm saying? So I don't mean, go ahead. You could tell them when we first met. I don't remember specifically, but what I do remember is is everybody speaking to your just speaking to your accolades and be like, yo, this he's a great guy. He he he is what he talks about. He he says what he's gonna do, and he's a perfect he's a good person to have a connection with.
- 51:35DJ Sharad: Absolutely.
- 51:36DJ Sharad: And that's that's definitely something you learn over time.
- 51:40DJ Sharad: You know? I think all we have is really our word. You know? If you if you say you're gonna do something and you don't do it if I tell you I'm a be here and I don't show up, or if I tell you I'm a get this done and I don't, how would that make you feel?
- 51:54DJ Sharad: Like, how would you feel about me?
- 51:56DJ Sharad: So it's like, if you can't do it, it's also okay to say no.
- 52:00DJ Sharad: Like, it's it's also okay to be like, yo. I don't think I could get that done right now. And that's something I think you learn with mature maturity.
- 52:07DJ Sharad: And over time, I've made many mistakes, and I think all of us as human beings, how many mistakes do we especially in this game. Like, this information and calls and you need to be in a thousand places at once. Like, how do you do it all?
- 52:20DJ Sharad: We're we're human beings at the end of the day. So, ultimately, you gotta you gotta be able to, you know, stick by your word.
- 52:28DJ Sharad: If you say you're gonna do something, do it. If you say you're gonna pay this money, pay it. If you say you're gonna deliver this thing, deliver it. And sometimes when you say you can't, like, Enuff calls me for shit all the time.
- 52:38DJ Sharad: And sometimes I'll even feel bad. Like, yo, I can't get this done. But now, like like, even though Enuff's the boss, I'll be like, yo, you know what? I gotta tell him I can't go. Like, as much as that hurts me to be like, yo, I gotta tell Enuff no sometimes.
- 52:51DJ Sharad: Like, he understands because he's been there too.
- 52:53DJ Sharad: So, like, even the other day, like, wanna do that? You wanna go here? I'm like, Enuff. I can't. You know, I have a basketball coaching commitment or I'm always just trying to
- 53:02DJ Enuff: keep him in the loop because I know he's big on Yes. His brown people being represented, and he wants be So I always want him to be a part of the the talks, the part of anything we do with the radio show on Shade 45. I want you know, that kind of shit. And, honestly, to be the to be 100 straight transparent with you, the only two people I feel super safe to set me up before I DJ is him and DP One. That's it. Go school. There's nobody else.
- 53:35DJ Enuff: When I know they're there, I know I'm good to go. Nothing's going wrong. I got
- 53:38DJ Sharad: a great story about that too. I'll be
- 53:40DJ Kast One: good to go. I got a great story
- 53:41DJ Sharad: about that too. We're talking about riders and stuff. Yeah. Go ahead. A few months ago, he hits me. He's like, yo. I got a DJ at Brooklyn Bowl.
- 53:50DJ Sharad: I said, I bet. What what do they have in there? He's like, come with me.
- 53:53DJ Sharad: I said, cool. No problem.
- 53:55DJ Sharad: I said, what do they have in there?
- 53:56DJ Sharad: He said, I don't know. You know Enuff.
- 53:58DJ Sharad: He's like, I don't know. Fucking they have the equipment in there. I'm like, what do they have? He's like, I don't fucking know.
- 54:03DJ Sharad: I was like, you know what? We're gonna bring a controller. We're gonna bring a rev seven in the truck just in case. Like, whatever the fuck they have there, we're bringing a REV7. So we bring because I like the REV7.
- 54:14DJ Sharad: I I if it's if I'm gonna use a controller, it'll be that one. So we bring REV7. We go. We pull up.
- 54:20DJ Sharad: We're right outside, and we go inside.
- 54:24DJ Sharad: And there's no DJ equipment set up at all. Wow. So I go to the sound guy. I'm like, yo.
- 54:30DJ Sharad: Where's the DJ equipment? And Enuff's like, yo.
- 54:33DJ Sharad: Just go go bring the REV7 with you when we walk in. I'm like, no.
- 54:36DJ Sharad: Like, this is not how we're gonna move here. Like like, we're not doing that. We're not taking it out of the car if they already have shit in there. I'm not doing extra work unless we need to.
- 54:46DJ Sharad: So the sound guy's like, oh, I don't know.
- 54:48DJ Sharad: You know these sound guys at these spots.
- 54:50DJ Sharad: They don't give a fuck. They're like, I don't know. I turn on I don't know.
- 54:53DJ Sharad: I turn on my camera light, and I look down below. I'm like, CDJ-3000s. I see two a set of CDJ-3000. I'm like, yo. What are those things right there? He goes, oh, I don't know. The sound guy goes, I don't I said, can I use them? He goes, yeah. You could use them. So I take out the CDJ-3000s.
- 55:11DJ Sharad: And then I'm like, where's the mixer? Sound guy's like, I don't know. I go I go underneath the table, and I see a fucking S11 there.
- 55:20DJ Sharad: That's my favorite mixer. Everyone loves S11, and I know Enuff will be comfortable with that mixer. So I'm like, alright. Let's set up the S11, the CDJ-3000s, and get this shit fucking moving.
- 55:31DJ Sharad: And, you know, it just shows you, like, sometimes you just gotta you gotta you gotta set your guy up.
- 55:38DJ Camilo: I forgot to mention you were talking about how do you get into these gigs that got trashed equipment. I do carry a backup in my trunk. You have to.
- 55:46DJ Camilo: A little joint. It's a little joint, and it saved me, like, four times. What is
- 55:50DJ Sharad: it? The REV, the REV1, or what is it? A REV1. Little joint.
- 55:53DJ Camilo: But, you know, it saves you for an emergency. My daughter uses that pro. Exactly. That's
- 55:58DJ Sharad: what I'm saying. The
- 56:01DJ Camilo: other thing I used to do back in the days when it was a big gig, like, let's say, which is a big room, you know, sometimes they equip me with that. I would call somebody that made sense, you know, financially, and I would get a sound guy to come in and put in my own speakers in the front, my own setup, you know, monitors, set me up on stage, and I did that a few times. You did that with
- 56:25DJ Sharad: me.
- 56:26DJ Sharad: You did that with me, bro. I did
- 56:28DJ Camilo: yeah. I did it with you. No. Hold up. Did it with you a few times.
- 56:32DJ Sharad: Once.
- 56:33DJ Sharad: Once. Once. I did it with you once.
- 56:35DJ Camilo: Right. And then and then I did it a few other times. Because you know what is the other thing is this.
- 56:39DJ Camilo: You wanna look good. You wanna sound good.
- 56:41DJ Camilo: Budget ain't great.
- 56:43DJ Camilo: So you gotta you gotta think, okay. What makes sense?
- 56:47DJ Camilo: Do I use this guy for a thousand dollars or they use this guy for $400, and I could still kinda get away with it? Kinda sort of. You know what I'm saying? But but it's important. I kinda learned that, you know, a few times. I played with addict sensation, and he was doing the same shit. I was like, hold up. This makes sense now.
- 57:03DJ Camilo: You know? So you'll invest in your own
- 57:06DJ Sharad: additional equipment and stuff? Money take out of
- 57:09DJ Camilo: my money to put it you know? I
- 57:10L. Boogs: I I and and and because the president's
- 57:12DJ Camilo: everything, but it's gotta make sense too. You know what I'm saying? The room's gotta make sense. The budget's gotta make sense. All these little things I have to make sense. Then fuck. Take a little l, but at least I look great and sound great.
- 57:23DJ Kast One: And you you know what else?
- 57:26DJ Kast One: Speaking to Sharad and your company, never fails to amaze me, bro. Thank you. A couple a couple months ago, I get a call from Sharad. Was like, hey. You know, we're doing this we're doing a party at Manhattan. I think it was Manhattan College. Manhattan Manhattan College. Right?
- 57:42DJ Kast One: He was like, yeah.
- 57:44DJ Kast One: You know, it's gonna be your party at Manhattan College, whatever whatever whatever. I'm like, alright. Cool. He's like, what do you need? I'm like, I don't know. You know, regular shit. Whatever. Like, you know, control of some. I don't I don't really think about it much. Now we've all done college parties and homecoming and all that stuff.
- 58:00DJ Kast One: So I'm whatever. I'm expecting whatever.
- 58:03DJ Kast One: Bro, I walk into this. It's in the gym.
- 58:07DJ Kast One: It's a when I tell you a full on production, you think it was Madison Square Garden.
- 58:12DJ Kast One: This dude had, like, fifty fifty foot long LED screens with the stages and the eight monitors and the 30 foot high speakers. It was wild. Right? And it just and everything. Right?
- 58:28DJ Enuff: Yeah. Trust and everything. Right? Yeah. But it
- 58:30DJ Kast One: just goes to show the level of production that, you know, Sharad and his company and thought that they put into thing. It's not a run by night where you're just gonna go into a place and hook up a speaker stack and call it a day. Right?
- 58:39DJ Kast One: Like, you guys have to understand the scope of what we're talking about and who and what we're dealing with here. Like, when he says these activations were, like, Nike and Timberland Yeah. You can't believe it. This is not little thing. These are not little things. This is a really big official production.
- 58:55DJ Kast One: You know, I just wanna give you your props and your company your props to be able to, like, put all of this together and have the the the I don't I don't even know the word I'm looking for, but just getting this job done is not as easy as most people think it is.
- 59:07DJ Kast One: Like, people think it's just like, hey, you know, you call us up. Yo. What do you need? We're having a party. We need a couple of speakers. Did you get a couple of call in a day? It's not.
- 59:13DJ Kast One: Any every single one of these events take sometimes months of planning in advance for one event that might last four hours. Right? And it's not a little thing, you know. So I just wanna give you a props on that. And you and your team do great work and continue to do great work. And you guys been impressing me from day one. Because then I think the first event I did with you guys is probably the big sports thing. And from day one until now, it's just been, like, continuous movement and continuous
- 59:42L. Boogs: Come on. Come on, little girl. You
- 59:45DJ Kast One: know what I'm saying? Shout out you and your whole squad. It's coming back. Where the
- 59:48DJ Sharad: whole team. Where the Boogs? Our Boogs is
- 59:49DJ Kast One: gone. Yo, don't bring up Boogs, bro. Don't don't talk about this is why
- 59:53DJ Sharad: this is why Enuff's always mad at Boogs.
- 59:55DJ Sharad: You see?
- 59:56DJ Sharad: That bullshit. You you ever seen that movie?
- 59:58DJ Kast One: That cartoon movie? What's the cartoon movie where they don't talk about Bruno? We don't talk about Bruno. We don't talk about Boogs.
- 1:00:04DJ Camilo: Sharad, before we go, like, to any upcoming Indian DJ Uh-huh.
- 1:00:11DJ Camilo: Like, that wants to get in a game, that wants to be that guy. Like, do you have any words speaking to you know, any guy coming up? Any advice. It's a hard game. It's 2026. It's different. Right?
- 1:00:25DJ Sharad: I think the key the key is always just put the music first. I think if you're like, this whole game oh, Boogs.
- 1:00:32DJ Sharad: He's back. I think this whole game is so diluted with, you know, what a DJ really is. And, you know, it's this whole Internet stardom and the shit as you've seen so many ups and downs already with guys that it's it's such a limited time frame that I believe, like, you gotta put the music and your skill set first. And I I preach this to the young DJs. I was like, I don't I don't care if you have 2,000 followers, 200 followers, a million followers.
- 1:01:00DJ Sharad: If you're not fucking with your music every day and you put the words DJ in front of your name, you're doing yourself and the entire DJ community a disservice. Let's face it. This whole DJ shit made you, made you, and made you.
- 1:01:15DJ Sharad: All of us will have not be who we are if if we didn't have that DJ stamina and have those words DJ in front of us and put that real work in.
- 1:01:26DJ Sharad: And putting the work in is the priority.
- 1:01:28DJ Sharad: I think so many young DJs got it twisted, like, that they just do these little clip mixes, thirty second mashups, and they get going viral. It's like people really value virality as currency, and that shit is gonna be short lived.
- 1:01:41DJ Sharad: And at the end of the day, you have to put the work in, put the music, put the knowledge of the culture first, and everything else will follow. Yep.
- 1:01:50DJ Camilo: Yep. And a lot of free gigs in the beginning.
