- 3:25Got a neat show lined up today. At least I hope it's going to be
- 3:28it's going to be a solo run. Not going to be having my friend
- 3:32brother and co-host dingo, you know, I've called him a guest so
- 3:36many times before and I feel like, you know, That's he's more
- 3:40than just a guest man. He's my brother.
- 3:41He's my best friends and I you know, he helps make these shows
- 3:47really interesting and he's been the most frequent participant on
- 3:52this show. So unfortunately this week my
- 3:55brother and co-host dingo will not be joining, but I wanted to
- 4:01talk this week about, you know, something that you know, gets a
- 4:07lot of attention from A lot of different not just Heathen
- 4:12circles, but that is it is the topic of self-care, you know,
- 4:16especially with the way the world is going and, and has been
- 4:19going and continues to go the importance and the focus on
- 4:23taking care of ourselves as individuals.
- 4:25And what that kind of means from, at least this heathens
- 4:30perspective. Now, I haven't said it in a long
- 4:32time, but I do just want to reiterate, that, in case you're
- 4:36new to this channel, to this podcast.
- 4:38Cast to watching what I do listening to what I do that.
- 4:43You always remember that. This is just one person's
- 4:48perspective, you know, this is my take on things and this is
- 4:51how I've come to kind of view the world in my religious
- 4:57worldview in, in my spirituality, and they are two,
- 5:00very distinct and different things, you know, and so over
- 5:06time My view of the world has has changed and shifted a bit as
- 5:11I've grown, in my spirituality, as I've decided to kind of
- 5:17Polish and hone my spirituality in the way that I have decided
- 5:21to do so. And then that in turn changes
- 5:24and shifts my approach to how I practice this religion, and it
- 5:32is a religion. I will say that it's, you know,
- 5:34we are dealing with gods and Goddesses as well as Spirits.
- 5:42You know, that exist with us here in the profane space that
- 5:45we exist in call home here in midgard.
- 5:48But it's definitely a religion because we again, we're talking
- 5:51about our interactions with the Divine, or our interactions with
- 5:55the sacred. And so, that's what makes it a
- 5:57religion. And a lot of people that, don't
- 5:59think that it is a religion. Give it enough time and stick
- 6:02with it. And if you don't think it now
- 6:05then I think you will. You know, perceive it that way
- 6:09later, it's not the same as organized religion.
- 6:12It's not although some people, and some actual organizations
- 6:19want to make it as such, and it doesn't work that way, okay?
- 6:22Even the best intentions to try and, you know, organized this,
- 6:30what is the, you know, in modern times it gets lumped into a term
- 6:33also true, so true, whatever. It's a very, very modern term
- 6:38and then and it doesn't fit to, to organize to organize.
- 6:44This, you know polytheistic path, you know, Germanic
- 6:48polytheism Germanic paganism, Norse Heathen, whatever name you
- 6:52want to put to this, you know, it doesn't work that way.
- 6:56It doesn't work on a large scale, you know, even the best.
- 7:00And like I said, even the most noblest of intentions, As I've
- 7:04seen it, you know, I've and I've removed myself from large groups
- 7:11and large organizations because it's just don't work that way
- 7:15man. It just it this does not work on
- 7:17the large scale. So it's not an organized
- 7:19religion to that extent and even though people are trying to kind
- 7:24of make it that indifferent in varying ways, it just doesn't
- 7:29work. So anyway, going back to what I
- 7:30was saying. You know, this is my perspective
- 7:32on things is my view on things and what I'm sharing And with
- 7:35everybody here on this platform is that maybe my perspectives
- 7:42and on things can help shape your perspective.
- 7:45Maybe you're a newcomer to Heathen re and maybe you've been
- 7:49a pagan for so long and you've kind of found home or found your
- 7:53your, your your Heathen home as it were your Pagan home here in
- 7:57this line of polytheism. And maybe as you're navigating
- 8:03through Those Waters. And as your carving your own
- 8:06path and forging your own way that, you know, other people's
- 8:09ideas, perspectives research, studies, understanding
- 8:12knowledge, that they share. So people like myself may help
- 8:16you. So take with take what I say, as
- 8:19I've always said, you know, take it with a grain of salt and just
- 8:21realize that, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:23And what I'm perceiving is due to my own understanding of
- 8:27things as it stands right now, they might change in a year and
- 8:30my change in six months, it might change tomorrow.
- 8:33Based on what I learned and whatnot.
- 8:35But so, feisty suffice it to say and so far in the last, you
- 8:38know, about six, six going on, seven years of me, practicing
- 8:44this, you know, I'm not the same Pagan that I, that I was when I
- 8:49first came into this path and none of us are, you know?
- 8:54So with that being said, the the reason why I wanted to, you
- 8:59know, talk about this thing about self-care.
- 9:04This topic of self-care is we see a lot of things happening
- 9:08around us in the world. Whether it's what's on the news,
- 9:10what's happening in our own, family lives, personal
- 9:14relationships, you know, work whatever may be your health,
- 9:21both physical, and mental, you know, a lot of things take its
- 9:25toll on us. We are exposed so much around us
- 9:28in the world today, both near and far.
- 9:32When I say far, I mean the things that reach us over the
- 9:36internet, you know, social media mainly.
- 9:41There's so much out here that, that impacts Us in that
- 9:44influences us and makes us feel certain ways.
- 9:49You know, and a lot of those feelings are negative.
- 9:53And so, you get, you know, these feelings of being overwhelmed,
- 9:57you get these feelings of, you know, that you're worthless or
- 10:01that. You you, you don't value
- 10:03yourself because of what somebody said or what other
- 10:06people have said or what you know, societies trying to tell
- 10:10you, you should look like or think like or be and that sort
- 10:14of thing. All these influences, write all
- 10:16these things that impact us in a way and I had an experience
- 10:22recently that kind of sparked this whole thing because when
- 10:27we, when we hear about self-care, you know, a lot of it
- 10:30comes from the mint. People with that that suffer
- 10:33from and and deal with mental health issues and that struggle
- 10:37with their Mental Health, on a regular and day-to-day basis.
- 10:43And I don't think any of us are exempt.
- 10:45Some of us are affected and impacted by that way, more than
- 10:49others, right? So you know, some of us are
- 10:54medicated, some of us are You know what to call it.
- 11:04Unable to perform our daily functions.
- 11:06I'm able to hold down regular jobs, unable to do all these
- 11:09things because of, you know, our mental health and part of the
- 11:15way that I see a lot of the people in that I'm exposed to
- 11:20friends, and my friends of mine and, and stuff is too, you know,
- 11:23don't forget to take care of yourself.
- 11:24You know, self-care, take a mental health day from work.
- 11:28If you need to or take care of yourself, take a day, go for a
- 11:31walk through this that, and the other, right?
- 11:33And that's all well and good. And there's definitely a part of
- 11:36that and I wanted to talk a bit more about where I see that from
- 11:39my perspective, again my world, you my, the angle that I come
- 11:43from as a heathen and as, and then as a heathen, walking, this
- 11:46particular polytheistic path. The thing that happened to me
- 11:53was I've talked on this podcast a few times. about, you know,
- 12:01other well research than well, well known pagans that that do
- 12:08good for the community. You know, there's there's a lot
- 12:09of garbage out there that you have to sift through and so when
- 12:13people ask me, you know, what should I do?
- 12:15What should I read? What shouldn't I read?
- 12:17Who should I listen to? What video should I watch?
- 12:19Where should I stay away from this?
- 12:20That thing in the other? I've mentioned people like you
- 12:24know, ocean kill toy wolf, the red Eric sure.
- 12:28Even you know the Ravens call. Matt Petrie old UNS beard
- 12:32woodworking the jmo. Listen, the Ava tear workshop
- 12:36and various other people along the way.
- 12:38But those are the ones big ones that come to mind.
- 12:40You know, that these are people in the community that I've
- 12:43become either very close friends with or have built enough of a
- 12:48relationship up with and follow what they do enough to know that
- 12:51they are sincere and that they are good people to keep you know
- 12:56kind of keep your eyes on and watch what they're doing and
- 12:58follow them and support them because they're doing.
- 13:01Things and that led me to say well I you know I've talked
- 13:06about we're going to take you know, Wolf the red ocean Cal
- 13:09tie. Those those guys I've talked
- 13:14about that, you know, they have this Discord server and with you
- 13:19know thousands of people there And I got to think I'm like,
- 13:26wow, I'm telling all these people or, you know, maybe not
- 13:29telling all these people but I'm always referencing, you know, in
- 13:33my podcasts or videos, you know, that these are good pagans,
- 13:36right? And these are people that are
- 13:38doing good for the community and go ahead and support them.
- 13:40So I like why me go ahead and check out this this Discord
- 13:45server and see what it's all about, right?
- 13:47So I do and the first thing I noticed when I get in, there is
- 13:52first of all, I use a communication tool that that
- 13:55looks a lot like Discord if anybody's in like the IT
- 14:01industry or uses slack as a Communications and collaboration
- 14:06tool, it's a great tool but it like as soon as I saw The the
- 14:12Discord server is that was again you know, the first time that I
- 14:15had actively gone and done anything with it.
- 14:17Believe it or not. I was like, oh crap.
- 14:20I like I'm walking into the office almost just like I'm
- 14:23looking at stuff. That's you know, reminds me of
- 14:25work. I'm like uh, Whatever.
- 14:29So, kind of go through charge through and find the, you know,
- 14:35they got a bunch of channels, right, or whatever.
- 14:37And then on the server and found an introduction Channel, you
- 14:42know where people are introducing themselves.
- 14:45So I'd you know, you know, when I go on these like public forums
- 14:50and stuff, I'm usually going on there as midgard musings, you
- 14:54know Brandon referencing, what I do, And introducing people,
- 15:00here's who I am. Here's, you know, that sort of
- 15:02thing and introducing myself as such and I do that, right?
- 15:07And it didn't, it didn't take very long for one of the server
- 15:13mods, to let me know that. Hey, I'm deleting your
- 15:17introduction because we don't allow Self-promotion and stuff.
- 15:23Now, full transparency. What I did was I said, hi, my
- 15:25name is Jesse. This is my YouTube channel or
- 15:28actually, don't even think I linked the YouTube channel.
- 15:29So I, you know, make videos on YouTube.
- 15:31I have a podcast and it's called random even ramblings.
- 15:36And I've been a pagan 4X, many years and I live in Tennessee
- 15:38and I have a wife and three dogs in the lower, right?
- 15:42I didn't link anything that I can recall be honest, I don't
- 15:46recall ever doing that, but I did use one of my channel art
- 15:48Graphics as you know, No. Here's who I am.
- 15:51Looks like this is what I do and the mod said, hey, you know, you
- 15:55know, we don't allow that it's in the rules as it were.
- 16:00So I saw that and I go, huh. Okay.
- 16:06Whatever. I'm not promoting myself.
- 16:08I'm literally introducing myself as who I am.
- 16:09And what I do. If you want to call that
- 16:12self-promotion then whatever. I'm not going to argue it
- 16:17because again it's not my house. Not my rules are rules so they
- 16:21want me to play by them and fine.
- 16:22I broke a rule so I didn't really I didn't share anything
- 16:27back about it and then it was like the day after or so.
- 16:35Scrolling through Facebook and I know and I'm a part of or was a
- 16:38part of a of a Facebook group called The Heat and underground.
- 16:44Now the even underground is has been a page and also a, you
- 16:51know, a public page and a, I'm not sure what they're, what
- 16:55they're classified as if they're a, you know, like an actual
- 16:59nonprofit organization. However, but they got, they got
- 17:02a, you know, if you've been paying for any The time, you
- 17:05know, kind of what they stand for and their-their staunchly,
- 17:10you know, anti-racist anti-fascist against bigotry,
- 17:15hatred discrimination, you know, and are and post a lot of stuff
- 17:22along those light along those lines.
- 17:24They're also very Reconstructionist, at least, the
- 17:28material that I've seen them share is, as always been very
- 17:30heavily focused on, you know, archaeological evidence
- 17:32reconstruction approach to the heathen.
- 17:35Bye. And I've actually learned a lot
- 17:37from researching, some of the articles that they share and,
- 17:40and doing my own research on stuff.
- 17:42So, you know, they've been a great source and it anyway, the
- 17:44Facebook group was one of the, one of the members of the group
- 17:51had posted a question. And if anybody is watching or
- 17:54listening goes back in there, in that grouping, to go back and
- 17:56look for it, you'll see because I didn't delete it, but it was a
- 18:00question that somebody was posting about Nordic music. and
- 18:06they specifically asked, you know, what music should I stay
- 18:08away from because and they and they kind of censored the name,
- 18:12Don Heim Now, down Haim, as you know, you know, a lot of people
- 18:18know who done time is like, his name is Mike Olson.
- 18:22He's theirs in Denmark and he's a, you know, Nordic folk music
- 18:26composer and artist and that way and that way Anyway, in the
- 18:31Heathen underground group. You know, somebody was asking
- 18:33about music that is to avoid anything like Dan Haim because
- 18:37of Dan Himes. Ties to racism.
- 18:43Now, I've been following in listening to the Don Haim for
- 18:49years, you know, and I got, you know, I asked so you know, since
- 18:54when is Don Heim A racist or since when is done, I'm tied to
- 19:00racism in any way. Wearing.
- 19:03Oh and then that that question of mine, turned into a
- 19:0620-something long commented thread from the Heathen
- 19:12underground mods and admins and other members of the group who
- 19:17were pulling screenshots from Posts that Mike had made from,
- 19:22like years ago, some of which were Trying to like put it into
- 19:32words but might he had posted something about a law in Denmark
- 19:36or or something in Denmark. We're like the traffic signals,
- 19:41the traffic lights, where you walk and don't walk like The
- 19:44Pedestrian, symbols for pedestrian traffic, the lights,
- 19:48the symbols of those lights are going to be changed to be
- 19:50something of of a gender-neutral.
- 19:55Appearance. Right?
- 19:57And my ex post was like, don't we have more important things to
- 19:59be worried about than this sort of thing?
- 20:02And a lot of people took that to say that he's, you know,
- 20:08anti-trans and that he's, you know, he's anti-gay and and all
- 20:13this other kind of stuff and then there was something else.
- 20:16Oh how he kind of like supports what Jordan Peterson says.
- 20:21Now Jordan Pederson is a Pretty sure he's very far right,
- 20:27leaning Canadian, he's academic of sorts.
- 20:31I don't know what he's a doctor of what, or where his doctor is,
- 20:34if he's a doctor at all again, but he's got some pretty wild
- 20:37views on things and some of which I've listened to, and I'm
- 20:40like, kind of interesting, you know, the way you look at it
- 20:43but, you know, again, people take what they say, they're take
- 20:47what he says, or what not, what Don Jaime was saying about what
- 20:51Jordan Peterson had said and it Turns into this, you know, Don
- 20:56Heim is racist and he's he's bigoted and he hates trans
- 21:00people and, you know, don't support his music.
- 21:05So I sat back and I watched I didn't comment more on anything.
- 21:08I just kept watching what was going on and I realize that this
- 21:11is ridiculous. This is ridiculous.
- 21:16So I left everything there, I didn't delete it, and I dipped
- 21:19out and then at the same time, I had gotten a an email,
- 21:24notification saying, you know, Wolf the red or whatever goes by
- 21:27and Discord mentioned me and a channel and mention me in a
- 21:31comment on the Discord server. So, I went back in there to see
- 21:35what it was, and you realize, there's like 3,700 nearly 4,000
- 21:41something like that. I mean, it's well over three
- 21:43thousand, three and a half thousand people in the hold, as
- 21:48it's called like a, you know, the server is called the hold
- 21:53and I get a, you know, he was asking.
- 21:56He said, hey, I saw you had a comment about Dan Haim or
- 22:00question about damn time. Did you get it sorted?
- 22:02Added. So then I'm like, well, we're
- 22:07friends on Facebook. Or on we file East, I follow him
- 22:12on Twitter. I posted it on Facebook and now
- 22:17it's being asked in Discord which my very first
- 22:20introduction. Comment got deleted on you know
- 22:23or the my very short introduction post was deleted
- 22:27and I didn't repost and then it says, hey did you get your
- 22:28question answered in Discord? So at that point I'm like okay I
- 22:33already know where I'm going. I already know where this is
- 22:34gonna go. So deleted all my Discord
- 22:37information and and canceled it. I'd like I'm not even I don't
- 22:41want to be This is not where I want to be.
- 22:44It's not what I want to be a part of and this is not What I'm
- 22:49looking for is not where I'm at with my spirituality.
- 22:51Now, how does this all tie into self-care?
- 22:56I'm going to come back to this in a minute, but I want to kind
- 22:58of reel it in to the, to the relative topic of the, of the of
- 23:03the podcast had. I engaged with the comments and
- 23:10try to, you know, have debate or or whatever in the Heathen
- 23:13underground group. Before I removed myself from the
- 23:16group, Trying to reason with people who have such a dislike.
- 23:24Strong view on things and that aren't willing to, you know,
- 23:30obviously, you know, and this is political this is what its
- 23:34strong political views, political and social views will
- 23:36say it that. Well, we'll just kind of lump
- 23:37them all in together. When people have such strong
- 23:40political and social views, there's almost nothing you can
- 23:43do to dissuade them or make them think otherwise.
- 23:46And I'm not trying to make people think any other way.
- 23:49I'm not trying to dissuade anybody from feeling the way,
- 23:51they feel about something or to stand up for what they feel is,
- 23:54right. You know, a lot of people do
- 23:57that that are blatantly wrong. People stand up for things that
- 24:01are wrong, because they think they're, right?
- 24:02And I've been called a lot of things by making that approach
- 24:07and taking that stands like, you know what?
- 24:09Can your opinions are valid, your thoughts are valid, you are
- 24:13valid for being wrong. You can be 100% validated and
- 24:20wrong at the same time, okay? And I'm not here to stroke
- 24:26anybody's ego to think it would just because you're being
- 24:28validated that that means that you're right.
- 24:30Absolutely not. And I don't live that way and I
- 24:33don't want people to do that. To me, I don't want people to
- 24:36stroke my ego or say, well, it's because Jesse said it and, you
- 24:39know, He must be right? Hell, no, absolutely not.
- 24:44I'm wrong, I'm wrong. So anyway, when I saw that,
- 24:50that's how it was going to go in that I was like I'm going to get
- 24:52involved in stuff. The first of all, I'm not
- 24:54educated enough and I, you know, call me what you want, but I
- 24:59don't want to be involved. I don't want to take my Heathen
- 25:02re, and I want to take my, My Religion, my spirituality and
- 25:05insert it into politics and and, and, and stuff like that.
- 25:12I just, I don't it's it doesn't work for me, okay?
- 25:15And I'm not in a position of my life, to want to be an advocate
- 25:18myself. You want to do that, you want to
- 25:21be a part of that find by all means, knock yourself out.
- 25:23That ain't me. It's never gonna be me.
- 25:26And I started to realize that that was where I was going to be
- 25:29going. If I stayed in the Heathen
- 25:31underground group and ocean and wolfs Discord server that
- 25:38because that's how it started all off for me.
- 25:39It started off as no. You can't say that.
- 25:42You can't, you can't post that post the way you posted.
- 25:44I'm removing it. And then the next day, I'm in
- 25:47like a totally different social media platform.
- 25:51And I'm getting asked about it somewhere else, like come to me
- 25:54and ask me, I guess is what I'm trying to say.
- 25:56Like it come to me and ask me if I got my question answered,
- 25:59don't put this out in front of me at 4,000, people, unless you
- 26:03want to make that a topic again, your house, your rules, your
- 26:05haul, your call your server. But I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna
- 26:11do that. I don't want to get involved in
- 26:13that way, so I guess, you know, I did, I open myself up for it
- 26:17by saying, well, since when is downtime a racist, sure.
- 26:20I I opened myself up to the to the responses of that question,
- 26:23but none of the responses that I got held any water.
- 26:26It was all like Loosely based like screenshots that you can
- 26:30interpret one way or the other. And it's like dude.
- 26:32He wasn't flat out saying he hates trans people or that he's
- 26:34against trans people, he was just saying the fact that then
- 26:37the Danish government was was was talking about changing the
- 26:41symbols of traffic lights to become gender-neutral and aren't
- 26:49there more important things to Deal with.
- 26:53It's not to say that the thing that heat that they're doing
- 26:55isn't important but are there not more important things to
- 26:57deal with? That's not a question that I'm
- 26:59going to answer that. I feel I need to answer is just
- 27:02that, that's what he was saying. So how did that get interpreted?
- 27:05As him becoming, you know, transphobic or whatever?
- 27:09Self care. That would have destroyed me.
- 27:12I would have been eaten up with stress and they would have
- 27:15angered me to the point where I would have been distracted from
- 27:18other things that I've found more important to spend my time
- 27:23focusing on. So this happens a lot right?
- 27:30And I use this example because I guarantee you every single
- 27:33person who's listening and watching this podcast right now
- 27:37is going to have either have had instances.
- 27:41Where they saw something like this on Facebook, or Twitter or
- 27:44whatever. You know they they saw a news
- 27:45article somebody posting about it.
- 27:47Next thing you know it becomes something that everybody is
- 27:49chiming in about. And oh yeah I have an opinion.
- 27:51I'm going to put my opinion down here and then you're going to
- 27:54get responses from. It's going to stress you out
- 27:55because people aren't going to necessarily agree with you, or
- 27:58they're not going to call you out on things or they're going
- 27:59to and it's going to go on and on like the snowball just rolls
- 28:03down the hill keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 28:05And next thing, you know, you're out of your mind, stressing out
- 28:10about it. and it impacts your social life with people around
- 28:15you it impacts your, your work, impacts your business, ethic
- 28:20your work ethic, you know how reliable and how dedicated of a
- 28:24person you are at least it can and it does for me So self-care,
- 28:28right? What a lot of people like oh,
- 28:30you know, go for a walk, you know.
- 28:33You know, treat yourself to a nice meal doll yourself up
- 28:35through this. And that it's very, you know,
- 28:37great things, great advice. Sometimes you just gotta back
- 28:42off. Sometimes you've got to walk
- 28:43away. And know where you want to be in
- 28:48life you know I don't want to be a wolf, the red I don't want to
- 28:52be an ocean Kel toy. I don't want to be anybody
- 28:56liking, you know. I don't want to be the Heathen
- 28:57underground. I don't want to be out here, you
- 28:59know, fighting against People and their opinions, I want to be
- 29:07a heathen that heathens and does things with his tribe.
- 29:12You know, I want to be the person that Learns more about my
- 29:18spirituality, to benefit myself and to better myself and the
- 29:22people around me. So, that way, I can be a better
- 29:25better person, a better Chief than a better husband, a better
- 29:28friend, a better, a better brother for those people, not.
- 29:35You know, an online community that I, you know, has people in
- 29:39that I've never talked with face-to-face a day in my life
- 29:42you know? And again nothing I have nothing
- 29:45derogatory or bad to say about any one of those folks you know,
- 29:50Ocean or or wolf, or anybody, great people, 100%, still
- 29:54support them. I just realized that that place
- 29:56wasn't for me. It's not for me at least not
- 29:59right now. Maybe it will be in a year or
- 30:01two years or three years who knows?
- 30:02Maybe I'll, you know, you Just don't know.
- 30:05I don't know. so, self care. From a human perspective.
- 30:18We have to take care of ourselves because our worth is
- 30:22placed upon us by our people. By the people who we interact
- 30:27with, we are not worth anything. If no worth is placed on us by
- 30:33our folk, and by our people and by our, you know, Kinsmen are
- 30:37kindred's, our tribes are people, you know what I mean?
- 30:42So for not taking care of ourselves for stressing out
- 30:45about stuff that we have no control over for not eating
- 30:48right. If we're not taking our
- 30:49medicine, if we're not, you know, staying hydrated, if we're
- 30:52not getting enough rest, if we're not doing all those
- 30:54things, Physical things, you know, that will impact our whole
- 31:02self, our whole selves, you know, and that kind of goes into
- 31:07what is the self, what are we? There are many parts of us, you
- 31:13know. So when we talk about self-care,
- 31:15we're not just talking about one thing about ourselves that we
- 31:18take care of, when don't, you know, take a mental health day
- 31:21because we're, you know, our bodies are tired.
- 31:23It's, you know, there's other things going on.
- 31:26That make us who we are and if they do not just those things,
- 31:30right? That's part of it.
- 31:31That's part of us. But it takes more than just a
- 31:35nap or takes more than just a shower or takes more than just,
- 31:39you know, the physical things to do to make us.
- 31:44Take care of ourselves, or to allow us to take care of
- 31:46ourselves. So, one of the things that I
- 31:49found very helpful in my self-care routine, if you want
- 31:53to call it, that is moderate moderate.
- 31:57What you do. Don't feel like you maybe have
- 32:01to, you know, and again, let me before I go into this next, you
- 32:06know, part of things. Let me, let me just kind of
- 32:08offer disclaimer here. Is that I am by no means
- 32:10somebody that you should. Put down on paper as well.
- 32:15He said I should do this, right? I'm not a medical professional.
- 32:19I am not a physician. I am not a mental health.
- 32:22Professional, I'm not a psychiatrist psychologist.
- 32:24Nothing like that. I don't, I don't suffer from
- 32:28those things like a lot of other people do, I have my days, like,
- 32:32we all do. But I'm not in that sort of way
- 32:37suffering, or in any great, you know, doesn't affect me that
- 32:42badly. Okay.
- 32:45But it does other. So first and foremost, Make sure
- 32:49that you're doing, what your doctors suggest that you do,
- 32:52right? How you take care of yourselves,
- 32:53whether it be your medication. You, those are kind of routines
- 32:57that starts up. Listen to the people who are the
- 33:00professionals that have decided to make it their livelihood to
- 33:05study and understand how to treat these types of things.
- 33:09Because I think that's not me. So, with that being said, things
- 33:17that I helped find myself because, again, I'm the type of
- 33:20person where I'm like, just because I'm having a bad day or,
- 33:23you know, just because maybe, you know, feeling a bit down or
- 33:29bid aggravated or stressed out or whatever, it's like, doesn't
- 33:32mean that I'm on the verge of Going wacko or or needing
- 33:39professional help? I'm just I'm having the day
- 33:41having a bad day or a bad series of days.
- 33:43Maybe there's just a lot going on in that has compounded and
- 33:48been built on to me to where I'm just like feeling like I need to
- 33:53offload a bit. You know?
- 33:55Moderation, you guys know. I'm not shy about it.
- 33:59I have drinks. I do drink.
- 34:05And at a time I was drinking way too much.
- 34:09I was I think I've even talked about it on this podcast before
- 34:12last year, where I went on like a three-week-long purge where I
- 34:19didn't Vape. I didn't smoke didn't drink.
- 34:22I didn't, you know, very strict diet, limited Cal limited
- 34:26everything. I mean, I like cleanse myself
- 34:29from a lot of stuff that got me to where I was at that point,
- 34:32and I did that, because I knew that, if I didn't do something
- 34:36that drastic to fix it right then.
- 34:37And there that I was Anna just steadily decline to a place
- 34:40where it would I would need definite professional help to
- 34:44get back out and I caught it early on with help from others
- 34:48and didn't need that. But that did not, you know, that
- 34:56wasn't the thing. That's like well, now, you're
- 34:58clean and sober your straight edge, you know?
- 35:01No, I will drink still, you know, and sometimes when I'm
- 35:06with friends and in a safe and social environment, I will have
- 35:09a little bit too much to drink. Now, I'm almost 40 year old
- 35:15adult and I'm responsible enough to know that when I'm sitting at
- 35:19home, when I'm with somebody in their Um, and we're not, you
- 35:21know, going driving, we're not in public that.
- 35:23If that, if you're going to do anything like that, then that is
- 35:26the place to do it. Is that self-care, maybe, you
- 35:30know, is it taking care of yourself?
- 35:32Is it the healthiest thing to do?
- 35:35No, but I know that and I'm not trying to sit here and telling
- 35:37you that you know sometimes man you just gotta you know, get
- 35:41twisted. That's that's not taking care of
- 35:45yourself. It's not you know it's masking
- 35:49the the issues that you're trying to cope with and in your
- 35:53you're not dealing with them. But what I have gone into did
- 35:57send just you know, done is again, moderation, right?
- 36:01It can be used enough to point that you or I, you know, loosen
- 36:12up a bit and again in the right company and with the right,
- 36:16people be able to offload my frustrations and offload, my
- 36:22feelings and externalize them in a way that is healthy enough
- 36:27again, without getting obliterated that, you know, I
- 36:34can, I can navigate through those, those Waters a bit
- 36:37easier, Now, in a much healthier alternative to that again, I'm
- 36:45not sitting here telling people, you just have a few drinks
- 36:47everything, every, every night. No, that's where I'm at in my
- 36:53life and what I do and how I do it has been through trial,
- 36:56tribulation and error. Mostly learning just where my
- 37:01sweet spot is kind of thing. But one thing that I have gotten
- 37:05into recently has been burning resin smoke sessions and And
- 37:11letting the resin breathing in some of those, those those fumes
- 37:15in the Smoke, it's very therapeutic actually.
- 37:18I'm especially when you get into such things like frankincense or
- 37:21culpable myrrh. And some of these other really
- 37:26medicinal And I don't want to say they're psychoactive, but
- 37:31they do when you breathe in the smoke, when they're burning like
- 37:34that, like they do have a calming effect, they do have it
- 37:36like a, they do have an effect on how you feel inside.
- 37:39So, I'll use an example, you know, earlier this week, I, you
- 37:47know, had a smoke session and it's like a ritual for me, you
- 37:52know, I pick out what resins, I want to burn, you know, kind of
- 37:57mix them up together in the I will cut that.
- 37:59I have that I've burned or follow-on to, you know, and I
- 38:07mix the resin in there and then I, you know, set up a little
- 38:11just, you know, station wherever I'm doing, it's usually Outdoors
- 38:15because when these resins burn if you're indoors and it's not a
- 38:18well ventilated area me, it's going to be like TP smoke Hut,
- 38:24man. It's going to be, like, it's
- 38:26intense. It's a lot.
- 38:28It's almost too much for a closed-in space without proper
- 38:31ventilation. So I'm usually outside but I've
- 38:34got a hood, you know, a hooded cloak that I wear and I lit the
- 38:38smoke kind of billow and it around my vicinity and just kind
- 38:43of meditate a bit and it helps calm me and it helps release me
- 38:48while. I'm still sober helps his kind
- 38:50of allows me to release. All that stress and stuff.
- 38:54So, maybe you think about, you know, things that you can do how
- 38:56to take care of yourself without hurting yourself, you know,
- 39:00without potentially getting into destructive habits.
- 39:04Because like I said, before, a lot of these friends of mine, a
- 39:07lot of people who I know that I've been battling with mental
- 39:12health, their whole lives have come from addiction, you know,
- 39:18and still battle with addiction because it's a never-ending.
- 39:21Saying it's a never-ending battle, you know?
- 39:23So I guess I definitely don't. I'm being very free with what
- 39:32I'm saying here but like, don't don't sacrifice one thing for
- 39:35the other, you know, don't try to take care of yourself and
- 39:37then put yourself into a tendency or addiction to
- 39:43substances that could kill you. So the smoke resin burning the
- 39:51smoke sessions with resin burning that has helped me a lot
- 39:54because again, it's very holistic, it comes in my body
- 39:59and my mind it's like a whole package deal.
- 40:02Everything about me just relaxes when I can sit outside and here.
- 40:08The crackling of the Embers or I can smell the, the various
- 40:12resins burning, you know, lights and candles, Ambience warmth,
- 40:17you know, everything. Like it's all of the senses are
- 40:20engaged at that point, you know, and it's very therapeutic and
- 40:24it's very healing walking out in nature, you know, getting back
- 40:29into nature and a lot of people who maybe Urban heathens that
- 40:34are, you know, closer to cities and don't have, you know, woods
- 40:37and stuff that they Can I guarantee you know, you can
- 40:40connect with nature some form or fashion.
- 40:42Even if it's just you know, the grass on your apartment Lon you
- 40:48know or or that sort of thing. I mean there's there's lots of
- 40:53Earth all around us. There's there's no excuse as far
- 40:58as that goes but getting back in touch with nature, even, you
- 41:00know, taking off your shoes. Barefoot walking through the
- 41:03grass. Walking through the ground,
- 41:05routing yourself back to the Earth, that sort of thing.
- 41:10I went on like a 5-mile walk this past weekend, so for like,
- 41:16those of you that are following me on my social media sites,
- 41:20Facebook Twitter, Instagram, you've seen the photos and video
- 41:24or videos of where I, where I was this past week and I kind of
- 41:32I didn't wear the right Footwear, you know?
- 41:33So like my got, like a blister on my heel that's kind of giving
- 41:37me grief, but that's my on stupidity my own fault, but
- 41:41again, that was very therapeutic, you know, just
- 41:42being able to go and Be surrounded by trees and by
- 41:49nature and hearing the birds and listening to the water of the
- 41:52river and drum a bit, you know, like I brought my drum with me
- 41:56and it's not, you know, our drum that's the drum that's with me
- 41:59right now. But it's our tribes drum, our
- 42:02tribal drum in that that, you know, that helped, you know,
- 42:06just sitting out there and kind of sitting by the river by the
- 42:09creek, whatever drum in a little bit.
- 42:13Meditating closing listening to the activity, the chatter of the
- 42:18forest, you know? Breathing in that fresh air, you
- 42:24know what I'm saying? Like, that's all stuff that
- 42:27helps. Make you feel good and takes
- 42:32care of yourself in a very good way doing something artistic,
- 42:38you know. Like, sometimes I'll find myself
- 42:42It's raining outside or whatever, you know, can't really
- 42:44go out and I guess you could get soaking wet.
- 42:48That's another very invigorating feeling.
- 42:50But if you're not really up for that, doing something artistic
- 42:54even if it's just, you know, drawing coloring, I'll make
- 42:57runes. I recently made a room set. that
- 43:03is made of seashells, you know, and The. the the process of just
- 43:15sitting there and, you know, and then painting or carving or
- 43:20burning something, you know, something, artistic drawing,
- 43:22whatever it puts the focus of your mind into the into the
- 43:28creation of something new, you know, starting with something
- 43:32and turning that into something else.
- 43:37The next thing, you know, all the things that you were
- 43:38stressed about all the things that you're worried about, they
- 43:43don't necessarily go away. But the perspective of things
- 43:50it's like wow you know I shouldn't there's nothing really
- 43:53to be stressed about. There's nothing new really to be
- 43:55worried about too much. Like I thought I should had to
- 43:58worry about it. And that's another thing too man
- 44:02like over the years and more or less recently.
- 44:08What I've come to learn is that, you know, most of the time the
- 44:10things that were Stressing about.
- 44:16Are not worth it, you know. There's nothing his nothing's
- 44:22permanent man. Nothing nothing.
- 44:24Here is his permanent that we see physically around us, you
- 44:28know like it's all going to. We're going to move on something
- 44:31else someday eventually We're going to transition away from
- 44:37this as we know it on to something else somewhere else.
- 44:41Maybe we'll be here, partly, but other parts of will not be and
- 44:46so Perspective is another thing to, you know, like that's one
- 44:50thing that has really helped in my spirituality specifically is
- 44:56realizing that all of the stuff. My job was his bill, as a big
- 45:01one, man. My job used to stress me out so
- 45:03bad. Nothing.
- 45:05I hated it. It wasn't like, I hate my job.
- 45:07I actually love my job but there were things about my job and
- 45:11even recently like there were things about my job that just
- 45:14get on my ever loving nerve like you know, I can't stand it when
- 45:19somebody says a certain thing or does a certain thing or I find a
- 45:21certain thing that the other, right?
- 45:23I got to go back and fix it like it's your job, man.
- 45:27That's what you get paid to do. You know, stressing about it.
- 45:33Ain't gonna I'm going to fix it, you know?
- 45:36So That's what's helped me not taking things.
- 45:42So seriously, and then when I do feel, like things are getting
- 45:46take, seriously, what I am taking things too, seriously.
- 45:49Find a way to moderately. Again, moderation, moderately
- 45:55reset things, you know, reset my perspective reset, my point of
- 46:00view, you know. So Like that, you know?
- 46:10Phone calls coming in. I am not around.
- 46:14I am not available. I'm doing something here and I'm
- 46:18enjoying myself and I'm not going to be worried about stuff
- 46:22that doesn't pertain to. What I'm doing here right now,
- 46:26my wife's home, she's safe. So she's not the one calling me,
- 46:31so therefore, I don't have to worry about it, you know, I have
- 46:34to worry about anything else. so, keep calling, but I'm not
- 46:48going to answer, don't answer the call man.
- 46:50You don't always have to answer the call.
- 46:52You always have to pick up the phone.
- 47:00Out there in the son of a bitch off keeps up.
- 47:05And that's okay because I'm not the only one out here that has
- 47:08an answer for things. You've got other people too.
- 47:12Call and reach out to but when off topic a little bit, so yeah.
- 47:18Anyway, guys, um, self-care, you know, is that really?
- 47:22I mean, is that there's this is it really Heathen the way I'm
- 47:27looking at things. Probably not largely, it's just
- 47:34Just the way I am, you know? I want my worth to be great to
- 47:43my people. I want my people to find good
- 47:45worth in me and to be an event to be trustworthy, you know, to
- 47:52my people, to My Kinsman, to my tribes invent.
- 47:56And I mean that, you know, gender neutral e right, tribes
- 47:59men and women my friends of all genders And non gender, binary,
- 48:08whatever everybody support them. and I want them to know that
- 48:14they have, you know, somebody of worth that they can trust and
- 48:19I'm too worried about, you know, what's said in this Heathen
- 48:21group From hundreds of people who I don't even know or if I'm
- 48:26too worried about what you know being said about.
- 48:31Don't post this post that don't post it this way.
- 48:34Post it that way. How did you get your answer
- 48:35questions? You get your question there.
- 48:40Excuse me to get your question answered.
- 48:45You know. Bye.
- 48:49Whoever by whatever like doesn't matter, I don't need to know, I
- 48:55don't care. It doesn't matter.
- 48:59Which, by the way, I mean, I still haven't seen anything of
- 49:05solid proof to me that that Hime is racist.
- 49:08Matter of fact, my very, very close friend made an instrument
- 49:12board then Haim and he knows and talks to the guy talks to Mike,
- 49:16you know enough. I don't think that somebody who
- 49:21is racist would want to work with or vice versa.
- 49:25I don't think that them that this friend of mine would want
- 49:27to wear, it was someone's like who was actually racist, you
- 49:31know. So you know what you can Things
- 49:34you can, you can take things and misunderstand, things all the
- 49:37time from people's social media posts.
- 49:40Happens all the time and I'm not here for it.
- 49:44I'll be as cut and dry as possible.
- 49:46I will be 100% up in from upfront and honest, you know,
- 49:51but I'm not going to sit here and repeat myself.
- 49:54There's enough dead horses that have been beaten to death, if I
- 49:57decide to just repeatedly get beaten because it's like, well,
- 50:02you know, about here's this, you know, I gotta remember, remind
- 50:04everybody that we are not for, you know, bigoted approaches to
- 50:09things. We are anti-racist, we are anti
- 50:11this, we are anti that. Good say it one time and be done
- 50:14with it. Now, move on and now be Heathen.
- 50:17Do the thing You know. Why we all have to wait?
- 50:22Why is it have to be something that we just repeat, repeat,
- 50:24repeat, repeat over and over and over and over and over again.
- 50:28Live it, do it. Let your actions speak for you
- 50:32for yourself. So, anyway, like I said, is
- 50:37this, is this particularly a heathen approach to the
- 50:40self-care? Maybe not entirely, but it's
- 50:47kind of reason why I wanted to bring this up.
- 50:49Is there's a lot of heathens out here than I know that that
- 50:51struggle with taking care of themselves.
- 50:55You know, it could be a dangerous path.
- 50:58Do you know you can, you can become so you can go far the
- 51:02other way. You can become.
- 51:04So isolated to yourself that you turn that it turns into being
- 51:10selfish and being selfish. Is it is?
- 51:17It's a fine line. You know, you walk and you walk
- 51:21a very thin path, may be selfish because yes, you need to take
- 51:25care of yourself. And yes, you need to be of good,
- 51:29use and good work to yourself before.
- 51:31You can be of good use and Worth to others.
- 51:35But again it's a treacherous path to the stay on because you
- 51:38can become. So isolated you become so
- 51:39rootbound you can become so, you know, it's not, it's not good to
- 51:42stay in Esau for too long because you get Frozen and you
- 51:48can get, you don't allow yourself to grow.
- 51:54So be careful, you know, when you're taking care of yourself
- 51:57that you're not neglecting the reasons why you're taking care
- 52:02of yourself, right? And that's what it is about.
- 52:05That's what it's about for me, you know, I can't stay.
- 52:08I can't stay stuck in my own pity.
- 52:12You know, for too long. I can't be.
- 52:14I can't be absorbed in myself for too long without, you know,
- 52:20pulling my head out of my own ass.
- 52:23And put my boots on the ground and getting shit done and that's
- 52:25just being visceral and that's being real.
- 52:28And that's, you know, going to change how this video gets a
- 52:32monetized for sure and how the plot you know, the podcast
- 52:35probably gets distributed but it is what it is.
- 52:37That's life. Life is visceral, and life is
- 52:43unforgiving at times and unrelenting.
- 52:49So, you know, you all take care of yourselves.
- 52:52Every part of yourselves, the parts of yourself that you can't
- 52:55even see the parts of yourself that only, you know, maybe the
- 52:59parts of yourself that your nearest and dearest loved ones
- 53:02and yourself only know, because there is that part.
- 53:07And sometimes, you know, the taking care of yourself requires
- 53:10and the inclusion of others, you need your people.
- 53:14You need your tribe. You need your Kinsmen, you need
- 53:17your kith, you need the extension of your family.
- 53:22And Maybe you don't have them physically, but maybe, you know,
- 53:28online platforms have helped and then that light, you know,
- 53:32things like the hold, you know, oceans and wild wolves Discord
- 53:36server. Are there or these other various
- 53:39Facebook groups, or social media, sites and stuff.
- 53:47This happened the last time too. I think I was doing a podcast
- 53:49and my phone wouldn't shut up. I think I'm going to keep it out
- 53:53away from me. It's gonna be like one of those
- 53:56old radio stations right? When the lights on and says on
- 53:59air, that means everybody else can bugger off because we're
- 54:04doing things here. And yeah.
- 54:07So That's about it guys. You know, I really would have
- 54:12loved to have dingo co-host with me to talk more about this,
- 54:15because he's one, man that I, that I put a lot of worth two
- 54:21and hold a lot of work to, you know, he's been a tremendous
- 54:23help for me and he's a great Goethe, a great tribesmen of
- 54:28mine, and I love him to death. So you'll see this and I know he
- 54:32will. So rather, I love you and maybe
- 54:37we'll get you on the next one. Make this more.
