On the 27th of October 1857, around a hundred Yiman warriors attacked a homestead called Hornet Bank on the upper Dawson River in central Queensland. Eleven settlers were killed. It's remembered today as one of the deadliest attacks on white settlers in Australian colonial history — and it has its own cairn, listed on Queensland's official heritage register.
