Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
• 0:07
  Speaker 2: What's up, everybody?
• 0:07
Speaker 3: Welcome to move the sticks on a Monday, DJ Bucky
• 0:10
Speaker 3: Rhett back with you boys. I mean from college football,
• 0:15
Speaker 3: which we're not going to touch today. We'll get to
• 0:16
Speaker 3: that tomorrow a little bit. And throughout the week, crazy
• 0:20
Speaker 3: crazy weekend college football, and then the NFL ended up
• 0:23
Speaker 3: having some nutso NFL games as well. Buck, What was
• 0:27
Speaker 3: your h your thoughts on the weekend as a whole
• 0:30
Speaker 3: before we get into these games.
• 0:32
Speaker 2: One. I loved every minute of it. I loved all
• 0:35
Speaker 2: the rivalry stuff, like we'll take Montario's out of there
• 0:37
Speaker 2: because they got absolutely mollywop by n c State. But
• 0:41
Speaker 2: there is something about watching college football games on Saturday
• 0:45
Speaker 2: when the rivalries are involved. I sat there and watch
• 0:47
Speaker 2: the Iron Bowl, and I'm sitting there with Uguars and like,
• 0:52
Speaker 2: I have a guy who's not really a college football fan,
• 0:54
Speaker 2: but I don't even know why people watched it. I
• 0:55
Speaker 2: was like, man, this is why you watch it. Because
• 0:57
Speaker 2: at the end he's like, it's over. There's no way
• 0:59
Speaker 2: is I say, I mean, you never know what there is?
• 1:02
Speaker 2: And then he throws the dime in the corner of
• 1:04
Speaker 2: the end zone. Indeed, I'm sitting there like it wasn't
• 1:08
Speaker 2: for the fact that I see it all the time
• 1:09
Speaker 2: in high school where you just see crazy things that
• 1:12
Speaker 2: shouldn't happen happen. I was like, man, this is crazy.
• 1:15
Speaker 2: Gonna lose the iron bolt on a four thirty one
• 1:19
Speaker 2: thirty thing. The only thing they can do is throw
• 1:21
Speaker 2: it into the end zone.
• 1:23
Speaker 3: But the good thing was they were spying him, and
• 1:25
Speaker 3: Casey took off to run.
• 1:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, they were spying, So that was good. That was
• 1:28
Speaker 2: sick sick out, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 1:33
Speaker 1: If you can't make a tackle from the thirty one
• 1:35
Speaker 1: to the goal line, you don't deserve to be on
• 1:36
Speaker 1: a field there, right. So the best part about all
• 1:41
Speaker 1: of that is the is the reaction, right, I mean,
• 1:43
Speaker 1: obviously the plays, the plays that decharged some crying folks
• 1:47
Speaker 1: in the stands. Buddy, I'm just telling you, Like, I
• 1:50
Speaker 1: was talking to a friend of mine who works in
• 1:53
Speaker 1: Indianapolis and the media, and he's like, I'm from you know, Atlanta.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: I've got Auburn family. They were at my house. My
• 2:00
Speaker 1: stepmother as soon as that play happened went to the
• 2:02
Speaker 1: bedroom and did not emerge until the next day. I mean,
• 2:09
Speaker 1: like that's how, but that's how. Just more the reactions are,
• 2:14
Speaker 1: you know, to like that week of college football, and
• 2:17
Speaker 1: obviously in the NFL we saw plenty of it too,
• 2:19
Speaker 1: you know, with the way that games come down to
• 2:21
Speaker 1: the wire, the Eagles and Bills and that the way
• 2:23
Speaker 1: that thing ended up is incredible. So we'll get to
• 2:26
Speaker 1: all of it. But it was an awesome weekend to
• 2:28
Speaker 1: just to put it.
• 2:29
Speaker 3: Out, yeah to me, to me when you it was
• 2:32
Speaker 3: literally like we had my wife and my son where
• 2:36
Speaker 3: we were all just kind of sitting on the couch.
• 2:38
Speaker 3: And normally for us like college football and I'll you know,
• 2:40
Speaker 3: obviously get into the tape and everything as we get
• 2:42
Speaker 3: towards the draft, but college football almost like baseball for us,
• 2:45
Speaker 3: where it's kind of it's on. We'll have the games
• 2:47
Speaker 3: on on Saturday, but you know, Sunday we're working, so
• 2:50
Speaker 3: Saturday got some other stuff done around the house, and
• 2:52
Speaker 3: it's kind of the games are kind of like a backdrop.
• 2:54
Speaker 3: But that fourth and thirty one, we were all sitting
• 2:56
Speaker 3: there glued and all of us were just.
• 2:58
Speaker 2: Like, what did that just happened?
• 3:02
Speaker 1: That game was like unbelievable, not so stuff happens in
• 3:06
Speaker 1: that game more than any other game.
• 3:07
Speaker 3: I feel like it was And there were several other
• 3:10
Speaker 3: games like that too. Washington Washington State came down to.
• 3:13
Speaker 2: Washington Washington State was unbelievable, Like it was a great game.
• 3:15
Speaker 2: The Apple Cup. It's always kind of contentious, but watching
• 3:18
Speaker 2: that the tension becuse it's gonna be the last one.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: Maybe that we sold the.
• 3:20
  Speaker 1: Oak Bucket game.
• 3:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I guess I guess the Oak and Bucket
• 3:24
  Speaker 2: game that who.
• 3:25
Speaker 3: Knew who knew BYU Oklahoma State was the game we
• 3:27
Speaker 3: all needed, by the way, uh being a barn burner.
• 3:31
Speaker 2: You know. And then the Michigan Ohio State like the
• 3:33
Speaker 2: way that is like that that battle of like toughness
• 3:37
Speaker 2: and just interception. Yeah, I think I like a little acrimony,
• 3:42
Speaker 2: a little tension between bases and coaches. I think I
• 3:46
Speaker 2: like that. I think I like seeing robberies that hey, no,
• 3:49
Speaker 2: we don't like you guys. I'm not shaking hands, I'm
• 3:51
Speaker 2: not doing all this nice stuff like we don't like you,
• 3:54
Speaker 2: you don't like us, cool, let's get it off.
• 3:57
Speaker 3: Well unlike uh, unlike that Florida defensive lineman, We're not
• 4:01
Speaker 3: gonna be spitting we're gonna be spitting facts here because
• 4:03
Speaker 3: we're gonna into right into the right into the NFL.
• 4:06
Speaker 3: That was that was not a great look, all right,
• 4:09
Speaker 3: before we get into these games. But we've got we've
• 4:11
Speaker 3: got some games we want to jump into. Sorry for
• 4:13
Speaker 3: the little detour with college football, which is such an incrazy,
• 4:15
Speaker 3: crazy weekend, but we have a coaching change this morning,
• 4:19
Speaker 3: it was announced the Carolina Panthers for the ninety fourth
• 4:23
Speaker 3: time since David Tepper has taken over or making a change.
• 4:27
Speaker 3: Maybe a little bit of an exaggeration there, but this
• 4:29
Speaker 3: is like, it's an insane amount of coaches that he's
• 4:31
Speaker 3: run through here in a very short amount of time.
• 4:34
Speaker 3: Frank Reik doesn't get a year. He gets eleven games
• 4:36
Speaker 3: and he is out. And this is a there's a
• 4:40
Speaker 3: lot of ways we can go. We talked about them
• 4:41
Speaker 3: in the past, you know, rhtt We talked about it
• 4:44
Speaker 3: and kind of put together that little plan which you've
• 4:46
Speaker 3: got such favorable feedback for real favorable on social media.
• 4:52
Speaker 1: But Panthers fans are very attached to Brian Burns. Okay,
• 4:55
Speaker 1: I mean this is this is I mean, this is
• 4:59
  Speaker 1: a bad situation.
• 5:01
Speaker 3: Like I don't know how it can get worse than
• 5:04
Speaker 3: having a roster that earns you the number one overall
• 5:07
Speaker 3: pick that you don't own. Like that is I'm trying
• 5:11
Speaker 3: to think back of like you know, I buck. I
• 5:14
Speaker 3: guess they will say there's no such thing as an
• 5:16
Speaker 3: undesirable job. There's only thirty two of these things, like
• 5:19
Speaker 3: they're sought after. But on the outside looking in, there
• 5:23
Speaker 3: is a lot of work to be done. And you've
• 5:26
Speaker 3: got one hand tied behind your back without owning that
• 5:29
Speaker 3: number one overall pick, and you got another future pick
• 5:31
Speaker 3: that's coming out your pocket as well. I think it's
• 5:33
Speaker 3: a two the following year. Yes, look, it's a tough job.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: And before you even get to like the resources that
• 5:40
Speaker 2: you have or the lack of resources that you have,
• 5:43
Speaker 2: is stepping into a situation where the owner is very,
• 5:45
Speaker 2: very actively involved. The track record the last two coaches
• 5:49
Speaker 2: were dump fairly quickly after taking over what everyone around
• 5:53
Speaker 2: the league knew as rebuilding projects. Makes it difficult. Now
• 5:58
Speaker 2: this is the one that will take the job because
• 5:59
Speaker 2: only two of them. But you talk about the least
• 6:02
Speaker 2: being so short man in terms of trying to trying
• 6:05
Speaker 2: to rebuild it, I mean we have seen I mean
• 6:08
Speaker 2: really good coaches struggle that first season, then they bounce
• 6:10
Speaker 2: back the next year. Everyone loves Dan Campbell and what
• 6:13
Speaker 2: he's done now, but it was tough that first year
• 6:15
Speaker 2: in Detroit before he had an opportunity to kind of
• 6:18
Speaker 2: put his plan into play and get his right people
• 6:20
Speaker 2: and all that other stuff. To me, I don't really
• 6:24
Speaker 2: even know what to say about Frank Reichen. An eleven
• 6:27
Speaker 2: game ten year, you have the number one overall pick
• 6:29
Speaker 2: and a young quarterback in Bryce Young. You're trying to
• 6:32
Speaker 2: teach him how to play the NFL game while figuring
• 6:35
Speaker 2: out what's around him, and to be judged like he's judged.
• 6:38
Speaker 2: I know the record isn't what anyone wanted, but sometimes
• 6:42
Speaker 2: it happens to me. I just think it makes it
• 6:45
Speaker 2: a very very difficult job to sell. Even though someone
• 6:47
  Speaker 2: would jump up his I think it's a man, it'd
• 6:50
Speaker 2: be hard for me to jump in there.
• 6:52
Speaker 1: You know, And I look back at the genesis of
• 6:54
Speaker 1: you know, what goes wrong here? Was there a good
• 6:58
Speaker 1: enough relationship? Was there a good enough working relationship between
• 7:02
Speaker 1: Scott Fitterer and Frank Reich? Were they able to come
• 7:05
Speaker 1: together to figure out the best course forward? Did they
• 7:08
Speaker 1: all agree on Bryce Young. You know, was that the
• 7:11
Speaker 1: fact or was there some dissension? What does David Tepper
• 7:14
Speaker 1: know that you know, somebody wanted this guy and the
• 7:17
Speaker 1: other guy wanted the other guy.
• 7:18
Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
• 7:18
Speaker 1: Like was can you go back? Can you now again?
• 7:21
Speaker 1: Seeing c J. Stroud excel watching your team lose to
• 7:27
Speaker 1: a rookie quarterback in Will Levis, I mean had to
• 7:31
Speaker 1: you had to think that that plays at least a
• 7:33
Speaker 1: little bit of a role in the perception for an
• 7:37
Speaker 1: owner seeing his franchise that you know, spent all those
• 7:40
Speaker 1: resources to go get Bryce Young. And look, I don't
• 7:42
Speaker 1: know that we're still saying that Bryce Young isn't the guy.
• 7:44
Speaker 1: I just think that we all agree that there aren't
• 7:46
Speaker 1: enough guys around him for him to show that he
• 7:49
Speaker 1: can be the guy. And then you also look at
• 7:52
Speaker 1: you know, like how much of this is of Frank
• 7:55
Speaker 1: Reich's doing as well? Like you have the you know,
• 7:58
Speaker 1: whether it was the plan or not. But after a
• 8:00
Speaker 1: few games you turn play calling over to Thomas Brown,
• 8:03
Speaker 1: and then after three games you take it back and
• 8:06
Speaker 1: then it's not working, and it's almost like you're painting
• 8:09
Speaker 1: your staff and your decisions as a bit of a mess.
• 8:15
Speaker 1: And I know you're trying to get it right, but
• 8:17
Speaker 1: the perception is that man, all the button buttons you're pushing,
• 8:21
Speaker 1: they're not working. And if they're not working, then I
• 8:23
Speaker 1: got to find another way to make it work, and
• 8:26
Speaker 1: that's probably with another person.
• 8:28
Speaker 3: So here's some of the dates on this stuff. So
• 8:31
Speaker 3: with Tepper's owner, Ron Rivera was fired after week thirteen
• 8:34
Speaker 3: and twenty nineteen. Matt Rule was fired after week five
• 8:37
Speaker 3: and twenty two. Frank Reich was fired after week twelve.
• 8:42
Speaker 3: Obviously this morning, so then Mike Sando it does.
• 8:46
  Speaker 2: A good job.
• 8:47
Speaker 3: He had this tweet where he was talking about things
• 8:49
Speaker 3: that have happened on Tepper's watch. Here Matt Rule seven
• 8:52
Speaker 3: years one hundred or seven years sixty two million dollar
• 8:55
Speaker 3: deal trading Christian McCaffrey. They canceled the new practice for
• 9:00
Speaker 3: ability that they were in the process of building. They
• 9:02
Speaker 3: declined the huge offer I believe was what two to
• 9:04
Speaker 3: ones for Brian Burns from the RAMS. It was a
• 9:08
Speaker 3: healthy trade offer. They turned that down. They fired Steve
• 9:10
Speaker 3: Wilkes after he'd had some success in the interim basis,
• 9:14
Speaker 3: you hire Frank Reich and his staff all that money
• 9:17
Speaker 3: and you trade to the top of the twenty three draft,
• 9:19
Speaker 3: Like am like that is not there is not a
• 9:23
Speaker 3: lot that's gone right uh in there.
• 9:26
Speaker 1: You know. And I'm also looking at it like I
• 9:28
Speaker 1: felt like for the most part, we were all pretty
• 9:31
Speaker 1: complementary of the way that Frank assembled the offensive set.
• 9:35
Speaker 3: All these quarterbacks, all these quarterbacks.
• 9:37
Speaker 1: Brown got, Jim Colewyll in the building, You got you know,
• 9:41
Speaker 1: from young innovators to you know, wise experience coaches with experience,
• 9:48
Speaker 1: and so yeah, you look at that and is it
• 9:50
Speaker 1: in fact the head coach then that that just has
• 9:52
Speaker 1: to shoulder the blame on that.
• 9:54
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the big question would be asking Frank
• 9:58
Speaker 2: if Frank really want to assemble to staff like that
• 10:00
Speaker 2: or was this a staff that was as symbol by
• 10:03
Speaker 2: owner who wanted to do it differently, you know, because
• 10:05
Speaker 2: some of the words that have come out is that
• 10:07
Speaker 2: he didn't want a staff for the buddies, based on
• 10:10
Speaker 2: what he had experienced with Matt Ruhle. He wanted the
• 10:13
Speaker 2: best minds to get together. And in theory that sounds nice,
• 10:17
Speaker 2: but when you're coaching, there has to be a synergy
• 10:20
Speaker 2: and a connectivity that we tend to see the game
• 10:23
Speaker 2: out the same lens. You know, there's a vision for
• 10:26
Speaker 2: how we're going to play on offense, defense, and special teams.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: That is all complimentary, and yes, you want to have
• 10:32
Speaker 2: divergent thought, but you still have to have an anchor
• 10:36
Speaker 2: for how you want to play. I worry about so
• 10:38
Speaker 2: many different people coming from so many different systems. How
• 10:42
Speaker 2: do you put that together for the betterment of the
• 10:45
Speaker 2: quarterback and the players around. I just wonder if they
• 10:48
Speaker 2: ever were on the same page when it comes to
• 10:50
Speaker 2: doing that. And whose idea was it to have a
• 10:53
Speaker 2: coaching staff full of all stars, because it certainly hasn't
• 10:56
Speaker 2: work to this point.
• 10:58
Speaker 3: A little bit conflicted here because I think the challenge
• 11:02
Speaker 3: of winning in the NFL, it's the hardest thing to
• 11:04
Speaker 3: do and it's got the most parody.
• 11:06
Speaker 2: It's set up for parody.
• 11:08
Speaker 3: So you can look at a situation like what transpired
• 11:11
Speaker 3: in Vegas, where you've got a head coach and a
• 11:13
Speaker 3: GM that have an existing relationship, and there you would
• 11:16
Speaker 3: think believe in all the same things. It didn't work
• 11:18
Speaker 3: out there. Then you can go through examples, you know,
• 11:21
Speaker 3: like look, I know a lot was made about the
• 11:23
Speaker 3: game ball with the Giants being given to Wink and
• 11:26
Speaker 3: there's all this talk about Dayball and Wink hating each other,
• 11:29
Speaker 3: not getting along, and they come from different places, different theories,
• 11:31
Speaker 3: different philosophies. We've got this situation here where you don't
• 11:35
Speaker 3: have that previous relationship front office and the coaching staff.
• 11:38
Speaker 3: So I can point to a million things and say, look,
• 11:41
Speaker 3: these guys were best friends, they came in up in
• 11:44
Speaker 3: the same system, they got together and it didn't work.
• 11:46
Speaker 3: And I can show you other examples where they came
• 11:48
Speaker 3: in from successful other organizations that came together, didn't work,
• 11:51
Speaker 3: and then flip it and do the exact opposite. So
• 11:55
  Speaker 3: I don't think there's one way to do it. I
• 11:56
Speaker 3: would just say maybe it's maybe the lesson here is
• 12:02
Speaker 3: that you've got to have the infrastructure in place roster wise,
• 12:08
Speaker 3: for a rookie quarterback, you do, and if you're going
• 12:12
Speaker 3: to trade. And I was somebody who was in favor
• 12:16
Speaker 3: when they made this trade, I thought, hey, they haven't
• 12:18
Speaker 3: they haven't been able to get a quarterback. They needed
• 12:20
Speaker 3: to make the move to go up there and get him.
• 12:22
Speaker 3: I said that at the time. Now I might have
• 12:24
Speaker 3: overestimated the talent on the current roster. Clearly I did,
• 12:28
Speaker 3: because when you look at the way it's constructed right now.
• 12:30
Speaker 3: But I think in hindsight now we can learn from
• 12:33
  Speaker 3: others mistakes.
• 12:34
Speaker 2: But Buck, if you're.
• 12:36
Speaker 3: Going to it's one thing to take him when you're
• 12:38
Speaker 3: picking one, you know, and say, Okay, he might not
• 12:40
Speaker 3: be the elite elite level, he's going to be really good,
• 12:43
Speaker 3: solid starter. We're not going to be looking for a guy.
• 12:45
Speaker 3: Take him, no doubt. But if you're going to part
• 12:48
Speaker 3: with all of these resources, including your number one receiver
• 12:52
Speaker 3: in the process, he has to be the truck. There
• 12:55
Speaker 3: is no you cannot take the trailer there. You have
• 12:58
Speaker 3: to take the truck. Who's going to be able to
• 12:59
Speaker 3: pull everybody? And why I think we are in agreement.
• 13:01
Speaker 3: Bryce's talented. Bryce's got a chance to be a good player.
• 13:04
Speaker 3: He's not that you know, He's not that guy where
• 13:06
Speaker 3: you could part with everything to go get him. In hindsight, yeah,
• 13:12
Speaker 3: I would say, I would say this, And I think
• 13:14
Speaker 3: the scouting guys always bring us back to where we
• 13:17
Speaker 3: have to have truisms, right. Yeah, And so when we
• 13:19
Speaker 3: think about grading and the grading scale, we talk about
• 13:23
Speaker 3: the top five talent and the top ten talent, what
• 13:26
Speaker 3: they should look like in those things. I think what
• 13:28
Speaker 3: we have to do is stay true to those principles
• 13:32
Speaker 3: right that we've been taught along the way, Like, hey,
• 13:34
Speaker 3: if it's a number one overall pick, he should be
• 13:36
Speaker 3: able to check off these boxes as a special player.
• 13:39
Speaker 2: So Miles Garrett would be the one. Right, So Miles
• 13:42
Speaker 2: Garrett from a prototypical standpoint, you look at what he is,
• 13:46
Speaker 2: that is the number one overall pick all day every day.
• 13:49
Speaker 2: And so when we think about Bryce and love all
• 13:52
Speaker 2: the intangibles that he brings. But DJ Rhett, if we
• 13:56
Speaker 2: think about it, he's an outlier in a bunch of
• 13:59
Speaker 2: different ways. Size, not only hyke but also weight. Arm
• 14:04
Speaker 2: talent is good, but I wouldn't say it is great.
• 14:07
Speaker 2: Athleticism wouldn't be in that elite.
• 14:11
Speaker 3: That's the Kyler Murray. That's a difference with him and Kyler.
• 14:13
Speaker 3: You know, it's fither sized guys who went And so
• 14:15
Speaker 3: now what we've done is we made an exception at
• 14:18
Speaker 3: number one overall. And if you're the Panthers, maybe you're
• 14:22
Speaker 3: mad because you're like, he's number on pig he should
• 14:24
Speaker 3: be able to do that. But then you're like, well
• 14:25
Speaker 3: look at what he was and when he showed us
• 14:28
Speaker 3: in college yeah, he didn't necessarily fit what is normal,
• 14:32
Speaker 3: what is normally a number one overall pit.
• 14:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, and I look at you know, I think we
• 14:37
Speaker 1: all also got enambered with the way that, you know,
• 14:39
Speaker 1: how mature he is and the way he handled himself,
• 14:42
Speaker 1: and like you look at that, that's number one pick
• 14:44
Speaker 1: material like that. Even if the frame wasn't, the mental
• 14:47
Speaker 1: makeup seemed to be. And and then when you throw
• 14:50
Speaker 1: the talent in there, and we saw it many, you know,
• 14:53
Speaker 1: plenty of times at Alabama. The the arm, talent, the
• 14:56
Speaker 1: you know, the ability to create, it's all there. But
• 14:59
Speaker 1: you know, he was playing with some of the best
• 15:01
Speaker 1: players in college football and that is not the case
• 15:04
Speaker 1: now in the NFL. And you know, maybe he can
• 15:06
Speaker 1: get there. I think I think we all agree that
• 15:08
Speaker 1: there's a chance he can get there. They just they
• 15:10
Speaker 1: now have to figure out more than anything, You've got
• 15:13
Speaker 1: to find a way to get resources to Bryce. And
• 15:18
Speaker 1: it's almost to me more important than finding the head
• 15:21
Speaker 1: coach at this point.
• 15:22
Speaker 3: I've been beating that drum that in Panthers fans. Some
• 15:26
Speaker 3: of them get mad, but I'm like, you're gonna have
• 15:28
Speaker 3: to take from the defense. I'm sorry, but you have
• 15:30
Speaker 3: so much investment and you can't even evaluate him, you know,
• 15:34
Speaker 3: forget you know, yeah, you got to get going here.
• 15:38
Speaker 3: And look they do. I mean, somebody brought up a
• 15:40
Speaker 3: good point. Hey, we keep saying they don't have a
• 15:42
Speaker 3: first round pick, but they pick thirty third, which is
• 15:44
Speaker 3: close to a first round pick.
• 15:45
  Speaker 2: That it's a good pick.
• 15:48
Speaker 3: But I mean, gosh, you just you don't have you
• 15:50
Speaker 3: don't have that number one overall pick that you'd be
• 15:52
Speaker 3: staring at. So they've got to be creative. And to me,
• 15:55
Speaker 3: they've got to They've got to build up the offense.
• 15:57
Speaker 3: If next year we're having this conversation and the Panthers
• 16:00
Speaker 3: have won you know, three games, or they're four and
• 16:02
Speaker 3: seven or something like that. But Bryce is taking the
• 16:04
Speaker 3: next step and you've got him some receivers and you've
• 16:06
Speaker 3: got an offensive line in place, and he's making progress.
• 16:09
Speaker 3: You've got time now to figure the rest.
• 16:11
  Speaker 2: Of it out.
• 16:11
Speaker 3: But man, you'd hate to have to, you know, lose
• 16:14
Speaker 3: him through this whole process, because you gave up an
• 16:16
Speaker 3: awful lot and that would be a tough one to
• 16:18
Speaker 3: come back from. Anyways, what what plenty of time to
• 16:21
Speaker 3: dig into him as we get to the offseason, let's
• 16:23
  Speaker 3: let's jump into these games. I'll start. I won't go
• 16:25
  Speaker 3: along here. It's a game I feel like I've seen
• 16:28
Speaker 3: a million times calling these Charger games. They lose Sunday
• 16:31
Speaker 3: Night Football twenty to ten of the Ravens. It was
• 16:33
Speaker 3: closer than that. It was in the fourth quarter Chargers
• 16:37
Speaker 3: ball in hand, as you would expect, two thirty three,
• 16:42
Speaker 3: down by three, They've got a chance to go down
• 16:46
Speaker 3: there and try and at least tie the game, if
• 16:48
Speaker 3: not win it. The first play of the drive they
• 16:50
Speaker 3: get the ball to the fifty to Erickson. So you're
• 16:53
Speaker 3: first and ten at the fifty. You got two minutes left.
• 16:57
  Speaker 2: You needed more.
• 16:58
Speaker 1: It was like two thirty, wasn't it.
• 16:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, two thirty three when they started the drive. So,
• 17:02
Speaker 3: I mean they they have two and change and they've
• 17:05
Speaker 3: got it's un healthy. Yeah, they've got everything. And you've
• 17:09
Speaker 3: got a kicker and Cameron Dicker who might be an
• 17:11
Speaker 3: All Pro this year. He's been unbelievable. He does not
• 17:13
Speaker 3: miss and he's got a huge leg. I mean, you
• 17:15
Speaker 3: get you get to the thirty five, it's a layup.
• 17:18
Speaker 3: You fifteen yards. You've got four downs to get fifteen yards.
• 17:23
Speaker 3: They couldn't do it, and it's a little bit of
• 17:25
Speaker 3: a formula buck where I've seen it now Money and
• 17:28
Speaker 3: I talked about this on the broadcast, but I've seen it.
• 17:30
Speaker 3: With the end of the Miami game when Vic Fangio
• 17:33
Speaker 3: heated him up, they heat up the Chargers. They didn't
• 17:36
Speaker 3: really have an answer for it. Sacks, you know, it
• 17:39
Speaker 3: pretty much ends the game. Then you see the Tennessee
• 17:42
Speaker 3: Titans in overtime do it. Saw it again last night,
• 17:44
Speaker 3: like teams have started to come after them and they
• 17:46
Speaker 3: don't have an answer. You know, whether you want where
• 17:49
Speaker 3: you want to put that blame, offensive line, communication, a
• 17:51
Speaker 3: back here or there. You know, Herbert just not knowing
• 17:54
Speaker 3: that he's he's hot, not having options. I think on
• 17:57
Speaker 3: that last one, you know he has Keenan Allen on
• 18:00
Speaker 3: an out route, he gets a free runner. He's gonna
• 18:03
Speaker 3: have to get it up way before he gets out
• 18:05
Speaker 3: of his break. But at that one, you just kind
• 18:07
Speaker 3: of got to hope and pray that your receiver can
• 18:09
Speaker 3: get his head around and kind of put a little
• 18:10
Speaker 3: air under it and give it a shot. But what
• 18:13
Speaker 3: I'm getting at is these Charger games have ended very similarly.
• 18:15
Speaker 3: The defense was better in this one. I'll give you
• 18:18
Speaker 3: the quick take. On the other side of the ball
• 18:19
Speaker 3: with the Ravens, I've never seen more slant flat combinations
• 18:25
Speaker 3: in an NFL game. You talk about high school football, Buck,
• 18:28
Speaker 3: it was unbelievable. I'm like, this is like watching this
• 18:30
Speaker 3: is Friday night football out here. They'll they'll marry up
• 18:33
Speaker 3: routes where they'll have a little screen to the right
• 18:35
Speaker 3: right where you'll have like a bubble, and then the
• 18:37
Speaker 3: backside it's just the back in the receiver and they
• 18:40
Speaker 3: warm them out with the with some flats. They hit
• 18:44
Speaker 3: like three or four slants on that in that backside window.
• 18:48
Speaker 3: But it's a I was wondering what the magic was
• 18:50
Speaker 3: with Baltimore when I watched him, and obviously this they
• 18:53
Speaker 3: had scored thirty plus and five straight games coming to
• 18:55
Speaker 3: this one. This was not at their best performance, but
• 18:57
Speaker 3: seeing them up front, we'll get to the defense in it,
• 18:59
Speaker 3: but offensively, I was amazed at just how they've made
• 19:02
Speaker 3: this so simple and so easy back there.
• 19:06
Speaker 2: Look, if you want to do, if you want your
• 19:07
Speaker 2: quarterback to play well, give him things that he does
• 19:10
Speaker 2: really well. Going all the way back to Louisville, DJ
• 19:13
Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson is a killer on indbreaking routes. He has
• 19:17
Speaker 2: always been like that from Louisville. Whether it's slants, whether
• 19:20
Speaker 2: it's digs, post anything that's going towards the middle of
• 19:23
Speaker 2: the field. That is when he's at his best where
• 19:26
Speaker 2: he has always struggled as anything that is outside the
• 19:29
Speaker 2: numbers outbreaking away from him, running towards the sideline, that's
• 19:32
Speaker 2: not his jam. And the Baltimore Ravens have said, I'm
• 19:36
Speaker 2: going to make you a good passer by putting in
• 19:39
Speaker 2: route concepts that you throw really well, and until a
• 19:42
Speaker 2: defense or a series of defenses take that away, he's
• 19:45
Speaker 2: going to be efficient. He's going to be effective. And
• 19:47
Speaker 2: this offense is going to contain to movie score points.
• 19:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think you know you find a way
• 19:54
Speaker 1: to get the ball in the hands as eight Flowers.
• 19:56
Speaker 1: That helps too. And you know it figures that he
• 19:58
Speaker 1: gets the first week. None of us have selected Zay
• 20:00
Speaker 1: Flowers in the fantasy draft. You oh no, I.
• 20:07
Speaker 2: Thought you got tank Dale. I thought you took Tank
• 20:09
Speaker 2: Dale took you did? Do you need to do?
• 20:11
Speaker 3: You remember last year you get you got how do
• 20:13
Speaker 3: you take two Ravens? You took two Ravens. You called
• 20:14
Speaker 3: the charger Mitchell and I took Zay Flowers. Wait a minute,
• 20:18
Speaker 3: who took tang Dale?
• 20:20
Speaker 1: I think you did? You did because it against your bags.
• 20:23
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, I violated the code. I violated the
• 20:27
Speaker 3: code in one. That's the only difference. He got it, Yeah,
• 20:30
Speaker 3: he got it. He caught a buy I mean he
• 20:31
  Speaker 3: caught a bomb.
• 20:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, and then took one of the house, you know,
• 20:34
Speaker 1: with his speed. And so I look at it is
• 20:39
Speaker 1: it's simplicity in scheme, and it's simplicity and like, let's
• 20:42
Speaker 1: get the ball in the hands of our most electric cleanmaker.
• 20:45
Speaker 1: And that's what they do.
• 20:47
Speaker 2: And they do it.
• 20:47
Speaker 3: They do it simple on offense and complex on defense
• 20:50
Speaker 3: because they give you a lot on either side.
• 20:52
Speaker 1: Didn't the Chargers defense on the whole play a little
• 20:54
  Speaker 1: bit better?
• 20:54
Speaker 3: And they played great? Yeah, they played much better. I mean, look,
• 20:57
Speaker 3: they had them in the Ravens had literally had thirteen
• 20:59
Speaker 3: points with two minutes left, right, I mean, that was it,
• 21:02
Speaker 3: that was it. They got one late.
• 21:04
Speaker 1: Win that game with Justin Herbert as your quarterback.
• 21:06
Speaker 3: If you're not question, no question. And they have lost
• 21:09
Speaker 3: so many of these games. It's their sixth game this
• 21:12
Speaker 3: year they've lost by three or fewer points, Like so
• 21:15
  Speaker 3: I here's here's the interesting one for you. I had
• 21:18
Speaker 3: uh and Buck. I want to get your take on this.
• 21:21
Speaker 3: I had Lamar, I had Lamar. We had Rod Woodson,
• 21:24
Speaker 3: our buddy, on the pregame show, and I said, Rod, look,
• 21:28
Speaker 3: Rod Woodson, hall of famer, and people don't realize he
• 21:30
Speaker 3: coached as well. One of the smartest football players I've
• 21:34
Speaker 3: ever been around. I said, Rod, what do you attribute
• 21:38
Speaker 3: all these close losses to? And it's been going on
• 21:42
Speaker 3: for a while now, not just this year, but going back,
• 21:45
Speaker 3: and he said, to me, that has nothing to do
• 21:47
Speaker 3: with coaching. It was interesting. He said, there needs to
• 21:51
Speaker 3: be a player on offense and on the defense. That's
• 21:54
Speaker 3: the leader, that the leader that says this stops, it's over,
• 21:58
Speaker 3: this is not happening. They taken roll, they take the reins.
• 22:00
Speaker 3: He said. Now, he's all from the outside and he
• 22:03
Speaker 3: does not around the Chargers, but he said, I think
• 22:05
Speaker 3: he would Khalil Mack when he was coaching with the Raiders.
• 22:08
Speaker 3: So he said, Khalil Mack, unbelievable player. Maybe maybe maybe
• 22:11
Speaker 3: on his way to being a Hall of Fame player.
• 22:12
Speaker 3: Not a vocal guy, you know, justin Herbert from the outside,
• 22:16
Speaker 3: not not a big vocal guy, like so Joey Bosa
• 22:20
Speaker 3: not really a big vocal guy. Derwin is kind of
• 22:22
Speaker 3: that guy. But they were just he was just kind
• 22:24
Speaker 3: of saying, like, who's the who stops it? Like, who
• 22:27
Speaker 3: is the guy who stops it? And he give examples
• 22:29
Speaker 3: of like ray Lewis and you know the great players
• 22:31
Speaker 3: he's played with. That's it, Like that's not happening and
• 22:34
Speaker 3: he he But it was fascinating to me that he
• 22:36
Speaker 3: just said, this is not a coaching thing. There's a
• 22:39
Speaker 3: player thing. When you're losing this many close games, he
• 22:41
Speaker 3: put it on the players, which from a player I
• 22:43
Speaker 3: thought was an interesting opinion.
• 22:46
Speaker 2: So I will say, like we always here, and I've
• 22:50
Speaker 2: heard the best coaches say, hey man, it's a player's game,
• 22:52
Speaker 2: Like ultimately, our job is to give you the tools
• 22:55
Speaker 2: and then you go play. And DJ we've talked about it.
• 22:58
Speaker 2: Rhet has been on the pipe, we've talked about it.
• 23:00
Speaker 2: We talked about quarterbacks who have that not over my
• 23:03
Speaker 2: dead body mentality, or we equate it to the guy
• 23:07
Speaker 2: that is always on pickup. You give him any four
• 23:09
Speaker 2: but they always find a way to win. At some point.
• 23:12
Speaker 2: Your best players have to do that, like you demand more,
• 23:16
Speaker 2: you expect more from your best players, and so I
• 23:20
Speaker 2: can agree with Rod in that at some point it
• 23:23
Speaker 2: comes down to making plays. And so we saw the
• 23:25
Speaker 2: conversation that Minca picked Fitzpatrick had with Terrell Austin in
• 23:30
Speaker 2: the Pittsburgh game a couple weeks ago when he's telling him,
• 23:33
Speaker 2: you need to call this. Somebody has to be able
• 23:36
Speaker 2: to take them rains and say, coach, just what we're doing.
• 23:39
Speaker 2: We got it, we'll go fix it, we'll go make
• 23:40
Speaker 2: you right. And until somebody does that, they'll continue to
• 23:45
  Speaker 2: have these issues.
• 23:47
Speaker 3: Now, it's interesting, it's a fascinating case study. But again
• 23:51
Speaker 3: we've talked about it a bunch, but that Ravens defense
• 23:53
Speaker 3: on the biggest play of the game, they've got seven
• 23:55
Speaker 3: hundred pounds of droppers, they've got those two bigs touching
• 23:59
Speaker 3: and dropping off and the coverage, and they've got a
• 24:01
Speaker 3: free runner coming off the edge to really ice the game,
• 24:04
Speaker 3: win the game for him. So it is complex, it's complicated.
• 24:07
Speaker 3: Ro Kwan Patrick queen is they're legit in the middle
• 24:09
Speaker 3: of the defense. I don't think their secondary is great,
• 24:14
Speaker 3: but you know, I think the safeties are really good.
• 24:15
Speaker 3: I think corner and Martin Humphrey didn't play, but I
• 24:17
Speaker 3: think at corner there's you know, against some some premier
• 24:20
Speaker 3: passing team. I think they you know, That's why it's fascinating, man.
• 24:24
Speaker 3: It's all these teams in the AFC have flaws. I mean,
• 24:27
Speaker 3: that's the best team in the AFC right now. It's
• 24:29
Speaker 3: not a perfect team. So it'll be interesting to see.
• 24:32
Speaker 3: All right, Buck, how about your game Jags and Texans?
• 24:35
Speaker 2: Okay, so you just go from talking we were talking
• 24:37
Speaker 2: about the best players taking over and kind of making
• 24:40
Speaker 2: it happen. DJ. What I saw was a quarterbacking exhibition
• 24:44
Speaker 2: between two young quarterbacks that you have to be excited about.
• 24:47
Speaker 2: I'll talk about Trevor Lawrence first. Trevor Lawres certainly has
• 24:51
Speaker 2: heard the outside noise. And the reason why I can
• 24:55
Speaker 2: say that is to me, it took place at the
• 24:58
Speaker 2: coin toss, so you know, like in the pros, it's
• 25:01
Speaker 2: not really contentious when you go and shake hands or whatever.
• 25:03
Speaker 2: Trevor Lawrens was short and sweet when it came to
• 25:06
Speaker 2: shaking hands with the other team. Erva Lawrence was there
• 25:08
Speaker 2: to stand on business and he was playing. And I
• 25:11
Speaker 2: can tell you it is the best of these played
• 25:14
Speaker 2: in a long time Ken Looking at.
• 25:16
Speaker 1: You, I don't mean to cut you off, Buck, but
• 25:18
Speaker 1: you know what that sounds like exactly what we were just
• 25:21
Speaker 1: talking about. That's an over my dead body type of performance.
• 25:24
Speaker 1: It was go ahead.
• 25:25
Speaker 2: I will say this without personally talking to Trevor. Trevor
• 25:28
Speaker 2: Lawrence went to Houston to show and prove that, hey,
• 25:31
Speaker 2: before y'all discord me. No, I'm okay, I'm gonna do it.
• 25:35
Speaker 2: And he scores a touchdown early and he starts barking
• 25:39
Speaker 2: at the fans. That's the Trevor that I like, because
• 25:43
Speaker 2: I saw it last year when the Jags were making
• 25:45
Speaker 2: the playoff runt in Tennessee. In Nashville, the Jags were
• 25:49
Speaker 2: winning and somebody was talking to him. He just pointed
• 25:52
Speaker 2: to the scoreboard and walked off, and I was like, oh,
• 25:56
Speaker 2: Trevor got like a little got like a little yeah him.
• 25:59
Speaker 2: So so Trevor was on his game like that. CJ.
• 26:04
Speaker 2: Stroud DJ whatever we thought CJ. Stroud was gonna be
• 26:07
Speaker 2: in the draft process, we need to add five more
• 26:11
Speaker 2: points to the total score because what CJ. Stroud is doing.
• 26:15
Speaker 2: And now that I listen back to the commentary about
• 26:18
Speaker 2: oh he's not athletic, he doesn't move. DJ. What he
• 26:22
Speaker 2: is is he is going to be the next quarterback
• 26:24
Speaker 2: that gives everybody problems because he's athletic enough to run,
• 26:29
Speaker 2: but when he runs, his eyes are down the field
• 26:32
Speaker 2: and so all he's doing he's like one of those
• 26:35
Speaker 2: fairy tales with the lady that's hanging just luring you
• 26:38
Speaker 2: to the line of scrimmage, and he is looking to
• 26:40
Speaker 2: bring you up so he can throw it over your head.
• 26:44
Speaker 2: He has tanked deal on a sixty five yard pass
• 26:47
Speaker 2: that is eventually called back. But DJ he's running around,
• 26:51
Speaker 2: Oh I'm gonna take off. I'm gonna take off. You
• 26:53
Speaker 2: drop coverage and he throws a bomb And I was like, Oh,
• 26:57
Speaker 2: that's how they're scoring all these because he is basically
• 27:02
Speaker 2: doing the stuff that Pat Mahomes does. Not the same
• 27:05
Speaker 2: style player, but you know how Pat Mahomes runs around,
• 27:08
Speaker 2: but he's running and just kind of waiting for stuff
• 27:10
Speaker 2: to crack. That's what he's doing. And he's mastered that
• 27:14
Speaker 2: part of the game very early. These two young quarterbacks,
• 27:17
Speaker 2: they'll be duking it out for a long time. But man, C. J.
• 27:20
Speaker 2: Stroud is even better than I could imagine him being
• 27:23
Speaker 2: at this stage of his.
• 27:23
Speaker 1: Career, and this wasn't even his best. You know, he's
• 27:27
Speaker 1: had He's had better games this year. Now, I will
• 27:30
Speaker 1: say that I felt like he he held onto the
• 27:33
Speaker 1: ball and tried and had some magic in the pocket
• 27:37
Speaker 1: getting getting away from some rush. More so in this
• 27:40
Speaker 1: game than in any we've seen thus far this season.
• 27:41
Speaker 1: It felt like he was always on the move, like
• 27:44
Speaker 1: and it wasn't necessarily a design move, right, he was like,
• 27:47
Speaker 1: all right, let me let me get out of here
• 27:48
Speaker 1: and break out of the pocket. Let me escape out
• 27:51
Speaker 1: of here. And a lot of times he was making
• 27:52
Speaker 1: it work. But credit the Jags also for providing that
• 27:56
Speaker 1: pressure to not let him sit back there and use
• 27:59
Speaker 1: that elite accuracy ball placement to just dice you up
• 28:01
Speaker 1: from the pocket. Josh Allen was getting through and the
• 28:04
Speaker 1: Texans have been pretty good and they lost Titus Howard
• 28:08
Speaker 1: early in the game, which I think I probably heard
• 28:10
Speaker 1: a little bit. You had to put you Scruggs in
• 28:11
Speaker 1: there playing his first ball, first real NFL ball of
• 28:15
Speaker 1: his career, and he was you know, he's the he
• 28:17
Speaker 1: was the starting center coming in gets hurt. He comes
• 28:19
Speaker 1: in at left guard, first game off igh R. So
• 28:23
Speaker 1: I'm I'm glad you brought that up with CJ, because
• 28:25
Speaker 1: I just I feel like we we tried right. We
• 28:29
Speaker 1: tried to talk about that Northwestern game. We tried to
• 28:33
Speaker 1: talk about the Georgia game where he showed you that
• 28:36
Speaker 1: he can use the like he didn't have to in Ohio.
• 28:39
  Speaker 2: Steam.
• 28:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's got you know what, you know, you
• 28:43
Speaker 3: know what side note and then we'll get moving. I
• 28:46
Speaker 3: know we're behind schedule, but the I was thinking about
• 28:50
Speaker 3: this the other day in college football, I think it's
• 28:53
Speaker 3: going to make scouting easier with this realignment. Think about it, like,
• 28:57
Speaker 3: and I think about think about the quarterback position. You're
• 29:00
Speaker 3: going to have sc UCLA, Washington, Oregon going into the
• 29:05
Speaker 3: Big Ten. So all those teams now are going to
• 29:08
Speaker 3: be playing NFL players, NFL defenses. Now Oklahoma which has
• 29:12
Speaker 3: produced a lot of quarterbacks, Texas which with Sarkeys and
• 29:15
Speaker 3: you gotta believe they're gonna have quarterbacks they go to
• 29:17
Speaker 3: the SEC. Like in some ways, I think it's going
• 29:21
Speaker 3: to make scouting somewhat easier because you're going to see
• 29:24
Speaker 3: good on good every single week. You're going to see
• 29:27
Speaker 3: these guys playing against real, real teams.
• 29:28
Speaker 2: Man. I mean to that point. I think it even
• 29:30
Speaker 2: changes the way you you stock your department. I think
• 29:32
Speaker 2: you we talk about West and Midwest and all that,
• 29:35
Speaker 2: you almost have to have an SEC scout and a
• 29:38
Speaker 2: big ten scout a couple of it. So then and
• 29:41
Speaker 2: then when you think about the cross checking, like how
• 29:43
Speaker 2: you can just sit and I mean red, like I
• 29:47
Speaker 2: would say this, like I would do the first loop
• 29:49
Speaker 2: and then I would post up at sc the second
• 29:50
Speaker 2: loop and just watch these other teams come in and
• 29:52
Speaker 2: watch the film or whatever, Like you're gonna have scouts
• 29:55
Speaker 2: to gonna be able to see all of these big games.
• 29:57
Speaker 2: And so I think you're right. It's going to make
• 29:59
Speaker 2: it a lot easier to see these teams, these quarterbacks
• 30:03
Speaker 2: play in big games, and it should make I wist say,
• 30:06
Speaker 2: make for an easier evaluation, but a more thorough evaluation
• 30:09
Speaker 2: of the position. Yeah.
• 30:10
Speaker 1: Yes, and you maybe give your scouts the first two
• 30:12
Speaker 1: weeks of the season off because nobody's going to be
• 30:15
Speaker 1: scheduling heavy haymakers in the first three weeks.
• 30:18
  Speaker 2: Of the season.
• 30:19
Speaker 1: What the conference schedules coming.
• 30:20
Speaker 3: Yeah, well that's a good point, all right, Squeezing one
• 30:23
Speaker 3: more here before we go to a break Red, Let's
• 30:25
  Speaker 3: go Chiefs Raiders.
• 30:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, Chiefs Raiders. Interesting one. I mean, boy, the Raiders
• 30:31
Speaker 1: wish they could have just run right back into the
• 30:32
Speaker 1: tunnel after the first quarter. I mean, they were don wheels.
• 30:37
Speaker 1: Was it was incredible. The first fifteen minutes of this game.
• 30:40
Speaker 1: They ran twenty two plays, the Chiefs ran four. They
• 30:43
Speaker 1: had three. They had four plays for zero yards. I mean,
• 30:46
Speaker 1: you hold Patrick Mahomes to that kind of output in
• 30:49
Speaker 1: any quarter of any game, You're feeling pretty good then that.
• 30:52
Speaker 1: The rest of it was just kind of weird everything.
• 30:55
Speaker 1: It was not an overly explosive game on either side
• 30:58
Speaker 1: of The Raiders did get down the fielduple of times,
• 31:00
Speaker 1: but like neither team really wins that battle or dominates
• 31:04
Speaker 1: that battle. The run game wasn't as much of a factor.
• 31:08
Speaker 1: Although you know, you said, see Josh Jacobs, you know,
• 31:10
Speaker 1: it was good to see him kind of get some
• 31:11
Speaker 1: run here and find a way to at least calm
• 31:14
Speaker 1: things down for Aidan O'Connell who was on fire in
• 31:16
Speaker 1: the first quarter and got it. You know, it wasn't
• 31:18
Speaker 1: quite as good the rest of the way. The other
• 31:21
Speaker 1: thing that I'll say about it is this was obviously
• 31:23
Speaker 1: this was the h This was the Rashi Rice game.
• 31:27
Speaker 1: This is where we found out who this second target
• 31:30
Speaker 1: is behind Travis Kelce. Rashi Rice ten targets eight catches
• 31:34
Speaker 1: his first one hundred yard game. They were trying to
• 31:36
Speaker 1: get the ball in his hands. And I love what
• 31:39
Speaker 1: Andy Reid said today that Rashie Rice has been getting
• 31:42
Speaker 1: better and better every week, making himself more Patrick friendly, right,
• 31:49
Speaker 1: figuring out what his quarterback wants, how he can present
• 31:52
Speaker 1: himself to the quarterback in a fashion where he can
• 31:55
Speaker 1: then use his talent in his skill set to be
• 31:59
Speaker 1: a product to factor for this offense. They were getting
• 32:02
Speaker 1: him on crossers, they were getting him on quick screens,
• 32:05
Speaker 1: and they even had him chipping on Max Crosby side
• 32:08
Speaker 1: and then delay releasing as a checkdown. And he caught
• 32:12
Speaker 1: a couple of balls on those types of plays because
• 32:15
Speaker 1: he was making himself available to Patrick Mahomes, like on
• 32:18
Speaker 1: some of the plays you're talking about Bucky with CJ.
• 32:20
Speaker 1: Stroud where he's kind of waiting, wait and wait and
• 32:23
Speaker 1: doesn't break open. Bang let me hit it to Rashid
• 32:24
Speaker 1: Rice and he'll pick up eight yards. He's got a
• 32:27
Speaker 1: physicality to his game after the catch. That's pretty impressive.
• 32:31
Speaker 1: So I just and again, it did feel like for
• 32:35
Speaker 1: the Chiefs it was back to that patience game plan.
• 32:38
Speaker 1: They had four touchdowns on five drives from the second
• 32:41
Speaker 1: quarter to the start of the fourth, and they went
• 32:43
Speaker 1: twelve plays, eight plays, ten plays, six plays, and they
• 32:47
Speaker 1: just found a way to work the ball down the
• 32:48
Speaker 1: field and get the ball into the paint. And so
• 32:52
Speaker 1: I think Rashie Rice is the biggest development that I
• 32:54
Speaker 1: had from this game.
• 32:56
Speaker 3: No, that's legit. That's a good win for the Kansas
• 32:59
Speaker 3: City chief It's not easy inside the division. By the way,
• 33:01
Speaker 3: the Raiders just cut Marcus Peters, so they decided to
• 33:04
Speaker 3: move on from Marcus Peters there, so that one, that
• 33:07
Speaker 3: one's over all. Right, let's take a break, we'll come back.
• 33:10
Speaker 3: We'll jump into the Eagles and the Bills, all right, guys,
• 33:17
Speaker 3: I would say this is the game of the day
• 33:19
Speaker 3: in weather, cold, wet, the Eagles they beat the Bills
• 33:23
Speaker 3: thirty seven to thirty four. There's a lot of different
• 33:26
Speaker 3: ways you can go in this game. I'll leave some
• 33:27
Speaker 3: of the storyline stuff to you, guys. I went back
• 33:30
Speaker 3: this morning, though, and I wanted to watch someone who
• 33:33
Speaker 3: I think might be one of the more underappreciated players,
• 33:36
Speaker 3: not just on the Eagles, but maybe in the NFL
• 33:38
Speaker 3: asked DeVante Smith, so aj Brown gets a lot of attention.
• 33:42
Speaker 3: He's arguably, you know, if not the best, He's one
• 33:45
Speaker 3: of the top three receivers in the NFL. Jalen gets
• 33:48
Speaker 3: his attention, the pass rush gets theirs, even you know,
• 33:51
Speaker 3: Slay the secondary everybody you get the head coach Siriana
• 33:54
  Speaker 3: gets credit.
• 33:54
Speaker 2: How he gets credit.
• 33:55
Speaker 3: I feel like Davante Smith gets lost a little bit
• 33:57
Speaker 3: in this and when I watched him is somebody who's
• 34:00
Speaker 3: sees keenan Allen each and every week. It's hard to
• 34:02
Speaker 3: explain it because we can talk about guys being great
• 34:06
Speaker 3: route runners. You can talk about size, speed, all that stuff.
• 34:08
Speaker 3: When you're breaking down receivers, there's a feel to that position,
• 34:12
Speaker 3: and Buck you can speak to it better than I can.
• 34:14
Speaker 3: But there's just an understanding and a feel to your game.
• 34:17
Speaker 3: And it's so subtle as to the point when he's
• 34:20
Speaker 3: on over. He's on an over route and he can
• 34:23
Speaker 3: see where Jalen is and how he's moving, and he'll
• 34:25
Speaker 3: gear it down because he's not in a sprint to
• 34:27
Speaker 3: get to the sideline and you have nowhere to go
• 34:30
Speaker 3: with the throw. He can throttle down. He's got an
• 34:33
  Speaker 3: unbelievable spatial awareness.
• 34:35
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 34:35
Speaker 3: You might know, buck what his basketball background is. He
• 34:38
Speaker 3: one hundred percent must have played a lot of hoops
• 34:40
Speaker 3: because he feels and moves in space it's exceptional. Then
• 34:44
Speaker 3: you get with that the pristine route running and the hands.
• 34:47
Speaker 3: He's got phenomenal hands, as we've seen across the league.
• 34:51
Speaker 3: That's not something we should take for granted. But he
• 34:53
Speaker 3: goes seven for a Bucko six in that game, and
• 34:56
Speaker 3: I just came away after watching it going he needs
• 34:59
Speaker 3: some love. He's a good football player, man.
• 35:02
Speaker 2: He is a good football player in DJ He did
• 35:04
Speaker 2: play a little basketball. He did, he did? He did?
• 35:08
Speaker 2: He just said he does. He loved basketball. He's a
• 35:09
Speaker 2: good time basketball player coming up, and you can see
• 35:13
Speaker 2: that in his game and one. We talked about them
• 35:16
Speaker 2: multiple times, why multi sport players are favorable, why we
• 35:20
Speaker 2: love them, and this guy in process because those skills translate.
• 35:23
Speaker 2: But the field part of playing wide receiver. I think
• 35:26
Speaker 2: that's what really made him very attractive during the draft process.
• 35:30
Speaker 2: We can talk about the size, because the size was
• 35:31
Speaker 2: a concern, but I just remember, you know, when he
• 35:35
Speaker 2: took over at Alabama. He was the number two. Jayalen
• 35:38
Speaker 2: Widell gets hurt and he has to become the number one,
• 35:41
Speaker 2: and that's when he wins the Heisman Trophy. He exploded.
• 35:45
Speaker 2: He exploded when they made him the focal point. So
• 35:49
Speaker 2: the route run ability, to play making ability, the ability
• 35:53
Speaker 2: to kind of like be exactly what the quarterback needs
• 35:56
Speaker 2: in those moments, it makes sense. And I've always contended
• 35:59
Speaker 2: that the Eat they don't just have a number one
• 36:01
Speaker 2: wide receiver, they have code number one. I think they
• 36:04
Speaker 2: share the more quie even though gets all the love,
• 36:11
Speaker 2: I think DeVonta Smith is just as capable as a
• 36:13
Speaker 2: number one receiver in his own light.
• 36:16
Speaker 1: So I agree with you. I mean, I love Devonte
• 36:19
Speaker 1: Smith's game. I mean it does feel silky smooth, you
• 36:22
Speaker 1: know at times, and and you guys are talking about
• 36:24
Speaker 1: that a little bit, in the way that he runs
• 36:25
Speaker 1: the routes and that spatial awareness. I just kind of
• 36:27
Speaker 1: want to go back. It just feels like a theme
• 36:29
Speaker 1: now that that that we brought it up with with
• 36:32
Speaker 1: these you know that Rod Woodson con I mean, is
• 36:34
Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts maybe the best example of a guy who
• 36:38
Speaker 1: he's not losing, He's just not gonna do it. In fact,
• 36:41
Speaker 1: he hasn't. He has now won fourteen consecutive games against
• 36:45
Speaker 1: teams with a winning record. That's the most and the
• 36:47
Speaker 1: longest streak by any quarterbacks since at least nineteen fifty.
• 36:51
Speaker 1: They are also his best.
• 36:53
Speaker 3: He's at his best in winning time too. Like it's however,
• 36:56
Speaker 3: you know, grimy, the game can be on winning downs
• 36:58
  Speaker 3: and winning time.
• 37:00
Speaker 2: I bet against that, dude.
• 37:01
Speaker 1: Eagles five and zero this year when trailing at the
• 37:04
Speaker 1: half and Jalen Hurts is Philly's the only team in
• 37:09
Speaker 1: the NFL with winning record when down at the half,
• 37:11
Speaker 1: most of the wins when most of most wins of
• 37:13
Speaker 1: any team when trailing at the half. I mean, you
• 37:16
Speaker 1: should see what the rest of the record is. The
• 37:18
Speaker 1: rest of the NFL has a combined two thirteen win
• 37:21
Speaker 1: percentage when they're trailing at the half. The Eagles are undefeated.
• 37:25
Speaker 1: I just think that is a mentally mentally tough team.
• 37:28
Speaker 1: And it starts right there with Jalen Hurtz diege.
• 37:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, one hundred percent. And look, let's let's flip it
• 37:34
Speaker 3: over quickly. On the other side here, Josh Allen deserves
• 37:38
Speaker 3: some love for what he did in this game. You
• 37:40
Speaker 3: watch the runs. I broke down his runs in this game.
• 37:42
Speaker 3: Now that the stats, what did he end up with?
• 37:45
Speaker 3: Eighty one rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns? But these runs
• 37:48
Speaker 3: are not just like standard runs. Third and ten scramble
• 37:51
Speaker 3: for a first down, Third and eleven takes off for
• 37:55
Speaker 3: a sixteen yard touchdown, Third nine scramble for a first down.
• 37:59
Speaker 3: Like these are not you know, QB Power's not designed
• 38:01
Speaker 3: runs that is. And again using this theme, he didn't
• 38:05
Speaker 3: win the game, but it was a will on his
• 38:07
Speaker 3: part there that it was like he put everything he
• 38:10
Speaker 3: had into that thing and was trying to make it
• 38:12
Speaker 3: happen and put up a boatload of points. Put up
• 38:15
Speaker 3: thirty four points should be good enough. It wasn't on
• 38:18
  Speaker 3: this day. But man, that's a that's a Bills team.
• 38:22
Speaker 3: It's hard to explain. Somebody used the analogy buck, which
• 38:25
Speaker 3: which pains me, but yet I get it because the
• 38:27
Speaker 3: Bills are the Padres this year. Like the Bills point
• 38:30
Speaker 3: differential is off the charts. Their record should say one thing,
• 38:34
Speaker 3: but it doesn't. They're six and six, which is somewhat baffling.
• 38:39
  Speaker 3: You know, I do think it's a little premature. I
• 38:41
Speaker 3: think people they want to jump off the McDermott bandwagon here.
• 38:45
Speaker 3: I mean, the guys won a lot of football games,
• 38:47
Speaker 3: and that team has an identity. They're just in a
• 38:50
Speaker 3: they're in a weird spot right now. I think the
• 38:51
Speaker 3: Matt Mulano is our old friend Dave Damaschik used to
• 38:54
Speaker 3: do the jinga piece. Who would have thought that Matt
• 38:56
Speaker 3: Mulano could be that piece. I mean, he is a
• 38:59
Speaker 3: one of the best spikers on the NFL. Yeah, but
• 39:02
Speaker 3: Milano is Milano I think is more valuable to them, though,
• 39:04
  Speaker 3: I would.
• 39:04
Speaker 1: Agree Whers And that's the way that they thought it
• 39:08
Speaker 1: was because they were like, they were okay to let
• 39:10
Speaker 1: Tremaine Edmonds go, and they're like, you know, we need
• 39:12
Speaker 1: to pay Matt Mulano. He's the guy that makes this
• 39:14
  Speaker 1: thing go.
• 39:15
Speaker 2: He does he does make it go. And I'll say
• 39:17
Speaker 2: this about the Buffalo Bills because everyone is now kind
• 39:21
Speaker 2: of on Josh Allen about the turnovers and those things. DJ,
• 39:25
Speaker 2: there's certain players that you just have to live with
• 39:26
Speaker 2: that you just kind of have to know. It's almost
• 39:28
Speaker 2: like having a hitter who's a high volume strikeout guy,
• 39:31
Speaker 2: but he's gonna give you forty five to fifty home runs.
• 39:33
Speaker 2: You just have to know. Hey, that's part of it.
• 39:34
Speaker 2: We're gonna bake that in the equation that's what he is.
• 39:37
Speaker 2: I will say, you talk about the identity of the Bills,
• 39:39
Speaker 2: even though we're seeing I feel like the last two
• 39:43
Speaker 2: weeks we've seen Josh Allen do more of the I'm
• 39:45
Speaker 2: the one man show stuff. Maybe that's the identity of
• 39:49
Speaker 2: the Bills. Hey, he's going to do everything. He's gonna
• 39:52
Speaker 2: put it on his shoulders, he's gonna run around, he's
• 39:53
Speaker 2: gonna make plays in those things. Because they have been
• 39:56
Speaker 2: a more dangerous team the last two weeks. They've been
• 39:58
Speaker 2: a team that I mean, you could argue they should
• 40:00
Speaker 2: have won this game. If they win this game, it's
• 40:02
Speaker 2: a different conversation that we having about the Buffalo Bills.
• 40:04
Speaker 2: But I will say this, and I will issue the
• 40:06
Speaker 2: warning to everyone in the AFC. Don't let them get
• 40:10
Speaker 2: into tournament. That's a good point because if you let
• 40:13
Speaker 2: them get into tournament in a one game scenario, Josh
• 40:16
Speaker 2: Allen can knock anybody out. Don't let them get in
• 40:19
Speaker 2: because I would not want to be the two seed
• 40:20
Speaker 2: to ask to face them in the tournament.
• 40:23
Speaker 1: That tip to Joe Brady that offense has been better
• 40:25
Speaker 1: the last two weeks. It's that that is hard to
• 40:29
Speaker 1: deny at this point.
• 40:31
Speaker 3: All Right, I've been super excited about this one. Buck,
• 40:34
Speaker 3: how about the Falcons and the Saints? You feel the
• 40:36
Speaker 3: excitement in my voice right there?
• 40:38
Speaker 2: I do. I love your voice inflection because if you
• 40:40
Speaker 2: watched it, you would be excited about it. And the
• 40:42
Speaker 2: reason why you trust me, the reason why you would
• 40:46
Speaker 2: be excited about it is because Jesse Bas continue to
• 40:48
Speaker 2: do what Jesse Bass does. Out Our buddy David little brother,
• 40:56
Speaker 2: his little brother threw one out there and Jason Jesse
• 40:58
Speaker 2: Bates snacked it and sixt it. He house called. And
• 41:02
Speaker 2: if you've watched Jesse Bass the last couple of years,
• 41:04
Speaker 2: you're talking about one of the more instinctive playmakers in
• 41:06
Speaker 2: the secondary. He's done it and he's been great for
• 41:09
Speaker 2: the Falcons in terms of making plays, coming downhill, getting
• 41:12
Speaker 2: his hands on the ball. He is doing all of that.
• 41:15
Speaker 2: And a Falcons team that is really struggling with their
• 41:17
Speaker 2: identity on both sides of the ball, they played a
• 41:20
Speaker 2: little more to the identity. I think we had a
• 41:21
Speaker 2: b Jhon Robinsons siding. He actually touched the ball a
• 41:24
Speaker 2: little bit which was kind of fun to watch considering
• 41:26
Speaker 2: how much no figure when he touches the ball, you're
• 41:30
Speaker 2: telling me, yeah, how much they gave it to him.
• 41:31
Speaker 2: He had nineteen touches, which is always great to see
• 41:34
Speaker 2: over twenty one hundred and twenty scrimmage jars. And you know,
• 41:37
Speaker 2: if I'm the Falcons, I just kind of look at
• 41:38
Speaker 2: him be like, you know what, maybe the ball needs
• 41:40
Speaker 2: to go to b John Robinson a little more because
• 41:42
Speaker 2: when he gets the ball, it kind of assays the
• 41:44
Speaker 2: table for everybody else. And then desm Ritter was solid
• 41:47
Speaker 2: enough for them to get to win. Uh you look up,
• 41:49
Speaker 2: the Atlanta Falcons are still in the mix.
• 41:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, Byjon rushing in receiving touchdown. And the receiving touchdown
• 41:58
Speaker 1: comes on maybe Esmond Riders' best throw of his career.
• 42:02
Speaker 1: He's getting pressured, he is getting pressured and off his
• 42:05
Speaker 1: back foot, knows where Bijon is going to be, knows
• 42:08
Speaker 1: he is wide open, and lays a beautiful pillow drops
• 42:11
Speaker 1: it right into Bijon's hands for the touchdown. Now Desmond
• 42:16
Speaker 1: giveth and Desmond taketh as as well because he has
• 42:21
Speaker 1: another red zone interception here on a play on a
• 42:24
Speaker 1: throw that just shouldn't even you know, shouldn't should have
• 42:27
Speaker 1: just kept it. He'd been better off taking a sack,
• 42:29
Speaker 1: kick and field goal, obviously, but Tyron Matthew got one.
• 42:33
Speaker 1: He's just he's still he still hasn't worked that stuff
• 42:36
Speaker 1: out of the game. But he is giving you some
• 42:40
Speaker 1: of those big play moments, like he used his athleticism
• 42:43
Speaker 1: to really help propel a couple of drives, so the
• 42:45
Speaker 1: Falcons in this game. And then, by the way, pick
• 42:48
Speaker 1: six not the only thing on Jesse Bates. He comes
• 42:50
Speaker 1: up and probably makes the play of the game punching
• 42:52
Speaker 1: out a fumble on Taysom Hill who had just rushed
• 42:56
Speaker 1: for a first down. They were about to have a
• 42:57
Speaker 1: first and goal inside the ten yard line.
• 43:00
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 43:00
Speaker 1: In late in the games, either it's either fourth quarter
• 43:03
Speaker 1: or late third quarter, and that was a major, major
• 43:07
Speaker 1: turning point in that game, and the Falcons figured out
• 43:10
Speaker 1: a way to go down to score and win that game.
• 43:13
Speaker 3: By the way, I was just thinking out loud here,
• 43:16
Speaker 3: if there's been talk that Travis Kelcey could walk away
• 43:19
Speaker 3: at the end of the year, if he does retires,
• 43:22
Speaker 3: goes off into sunset, if you're the Kansas City Chiefs,
• 43:24
Speaker 3: just just just please let me show you what we
• 43:27
Speaker 3: can do with with with this tight end here, just
• 43:30
Speaker 3: giving him to the Chiefs. Now, yeah, let's just send
• 43:32
Speaker 3: them over. Oh no, I'm sitting here. I'm sitting here.
• 43:36
Speaker 3: You know this ends up, But Kyle Pitts is gonna
• 43:38
Speaker 3: end up with like the Chiefs, the Niners, or like
• 43:41
Speaker 3: the Eagles, and it's.
• 43:42
Speaker 1: Just gonna be explosion.
• 43:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, They're gonna throw them out there and then off
• 43:46
Speaker 2: you go and fantness to the Chiefs and the Falcons.
• 43:49
Speaker 2: This would be a nice repayment for the Chiefs sending
• 43:53
Speaker 2: Tony Gonzalez to the Falcons. This would be this would
• 43:57
Speaker 2: be like, remember, you can can get back and we
• 44:00
Speaker 2: can we can flip and.
• 44:04
Speaker 3: Callback how about how about yeah, Steelers Bengals here, we
• 44:09
Speaker 3: got a couple left.
• 44:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, just just just really hitting on the Steelers here
• 44:13
Speaker 1: because I think, look, I think, you know Jig Browning uh,
• 44:16
Speaker 1: I think will credit you know, his his ability to
• 44:19
Speaker 1: step in there in a tough situation and keep them competitive.
• 44:21
Speaker 1: But they're not scoring enough points and I don't know
• 44:24
Speaker 1: that they're going to be able to against at least
• 44:27
Speaker 1: the AFC North defenses that they're going to have to
• 44:29
Speaker 1: face here in the Browns of Steelers, uh and the
• 44:31
Speaker 1: Ravens obviously in the Steelers. In this one, I really
• 44:33
Speaker 1: wanted to focus on the offense with obviously the change
• 44:37
Speaker 1: in offensive first time this season. Mike Sullivan call in
• 44:41
Speaker 1: the place. Yeah, fair point, fair point. Look, I sometimes
• 44:47
Speaker 1: I think we get, you know, in on the on
• 44:49
Speaker 1: the external side, people get over overly enamored with having
• 44:51
Speaker 1: balance on offense. I think it's more like keeping the
• 44:56
Speaker 1: defense off balance is really what you're talking about in
• 45:00
Speaker 1: that equation, right, And the Steelers did that. Thirty three runs,
• 45:05
Speaker 1: thirty three called passes. They kept the Bengals kind of
• 45:10
Speaker 1: guessing where they were going. They had some explosives from
• 45:13
Speaker 1: Najie Harris. They brought big personnel and they were running
• 45:17
Speaker 1: thirteen personnel. They had Pat Fryarmuth back healthy. By the way,
• 45:20
Speaker 1: in that big personnel, one of those big time chunk
• 45:23
Speaker 1: plays from Najie Harris ends up happening. Pat Fryarmuth I
• 45:26
Speaker 1: think was a difference in his game though, and the
• 45:29
Speaker 1: way that he was able to operate in the middle
• 45:30
Speaker 1: of the field. First couple of targets were on benders
• 45:33
Speaker 1: and it was some terrific throws a couple of terrific
• 45:35
Speaker 1: throws from Kenny Pickett. Then he's like, he just goes
• 45:37
Speaker 1: Travis Kelcey right, and they just set him up a
• 45:39
Speaker 1: go find some space in between some zone windows here
• 45:43
Speaker 1: and turn around and bank Kenny's dotting him up. He
• 45:47
Speaker 1: ends up having a terrific game. Here goes over one
• 45:49
Speaker 1: hundred yards and it was just a big piece of
• 45:52
Speaker 1: the offensive attack that felt like it was really missing
• 45:55
Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks, and so they had it
• 45:58
Speaker 1: on the ground, they had it through the air. Just
• 46:00
Speaker 1: felt like Steelers offense.
• 46:02
Speaker 3: You know how you know when you're a kid. We
• 46:03
Speaker 3: played different games around the country, and I don't know
• 46:05
Speaker 3: if you guys call it the same thing we did.
• 46:06
Speaker 3: Did you guys ever play freeze tag when you're oh yeah,
• 46:09
Speaker 3: oh yeah. You know who plays freeze tag? Deontae Johnson.
• 46:13
Speaker 3: He's amazing at it. He just he just frozen. Just yeah,
• 46:20
Speaker 3: are you still frozen tagged? Okay, there you go, I'm done?
• 46:24
Speaker 3: What in the heck was that?
• 46:26
Speaker 2: Buck? Take me into the meeting? All right?
• 46:27
Speaker 3: This is this is why I love having Buck as
• 46:29
Speaker 3: a friend, because I can say take me into the
• 46:32
Speaker 3: film room. You guys, watch tape you're in the receiver
• 46:36
Speaker 3: room and that comes up. What the heck is said
• 46:39
  Speaker 3: in there?
• 46:40
Speaker 2: Nothing? You don't even have to say anything because DJ,
• 46:43
Speaker 2: you just let it play and then you just pause
• 46:45
Speaker 2: it and it becomes that uncomfortable silence, right, it's uncomfortable
• 46:49
Speaker 2: silence where the peers are looking at the tape. He's
• 46:52
Speaker 2: having to look at the tape and everyone is able
• 46:54
Speaker 2: to hold people accountable by saying, what are we doing?
• 46:57
Speaker 2: Like what like what kind of effort is that? And
• 46:59
Speaker 2: I and I'll be honest with you. So weird because
• 47:02
Speaker 2: the Steelers are such a franchise that's kind of button up.
• 47:05
Speaker 2: They have a toughness about him, but man, it always
• 47:07
Speaker 2: seems like they have one or two guys that the receivers.
• 47:10
Speaker 3: Look at all the receivers they've had, that they've had stuff.
• 47:14
Speaker 2: Yeah, And so he's been kind of like the squeaky
• 47:16
Speaker 2: wheel of Lake, complaining about like lack of touches and
• 47:18
Speaker 2: the ball, but never acknowledging his own shortcomings when it
• 47:21
Speaker 2: comes to drops and those things. He dropped a touchdown
• 47:25
Speaker 2: in this game. He's frustrating to watch. I mean, he's
• 47:29
  Speaker 2: he's a good player, but I don't think he is
• 47:32
Speaker 2: as good as maybe he portrays or his attitude gives off.
• 47:35
Speaker 2: And so I just wonder, I wonder with that, like, look,
• 47:39
Speaker 2: he's there because they signed him to a big deal,
• 47:41
Speaker 2: but it has to be a kind of annoying for
• 47:45
Speaker 2: some of the Steelers, like some of the antics and
• 47:46
Speaker 2: some of the lack of effort that has been put
• 47:49
  Speaker 2: on by him.
• 47:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a tough one. And you know, we we
• 47:53
Speaker 1: didn't see that happen because we we had this game
• 47:55
Speaker 1: on Game Day Live. We had it happened live, and
• 47:57
Speaker 1: we didn't We didn't see that because we got we
• 47:59
Speaker 1: were so focused on the fact whether Jalen Warn't actually
• 48:02
Speaker 1: fumbled the football or not, and obviously he did. And
• 48:06
Speaker 1: you know, you get Deontay Johnson just walks right by it.
• 48:08
  Speaker 2: That's yeah, the.
• 48:10
Speaker 3: Worst, even worse than that, as the beginning of the
• 48:11
Speaker 3: play didn't even come off the line of scrimmage right
• 48:13
Speaker 3: stood sitting there not blocking anyways. That was a bad look,
• 48:18
Speaker 3: but overall a much better day for the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.
• 48:22
Speaker 3: And hey, the Steelers win games, man, they just keep
• 48:24
Speaker 3: winning ball games finding a way to do it. Mike Tomlin,
• 48:27
Speaker 3: God bless him, he's figured it out man, Well, I
• 48:31
Speaker 3: think this is the last one for US here Broncos
• 48:34
Speaker 3: and Browns twenty nine to twelve. I took the Russell
• 48:37
Speaker 3: Wilson angle on this. The numbers are not going to
• 48:39
Speaker 3: be anything impressive. Thirteen to twenty two, one hundred and
• 48:41
Speaker 3: thirty four yards a touchdown, eleven carries, which is a
• 48:44
Speaker 3: lot only thirty four yards, but did have a rushing
• 48:47
Speaker 3: touchdown on a fumble, So I went with the on
• 48:49
Speaker 3: pace numbers for US. He's on pace for thirty three
• 48:52
Speaker 3: ninety eight yards, thirty one touchdowns, six picks, completing sixty
• 48:57
Speaker 3: eight point three percent of his passes. He's thirty four
• 49:00
Speaker 3: years old, his last five games seventy point two percent
• 49:04
Speaker 3: completion percentage, eight hundred and ninety four yards, eight touchdowns,
• 49:07
Speaker 3: no picks. I wrote down in my notes, I went
• 49:10
Speaker 3: and watched all of his dropbacks in this game, and
• 49:14
Speaker 3: I wrote, Ah, it's Alex Smith, Like this is this
• 49:17
Speaker 3: is kind of how he's playing right now. Is Alex Smith.
• 49:20
Speaker 3: He's efficient, He uses legs, you know, to get He
• 49:23
Speaker 3: got out of a bunch of sacks in this game,
• 49:25
Speaker 3: and some of them maybe got a yard or two.
• 49:27
Speaker 3: Some of them he threw away, but some hidden yardage there.
• 49:30
Speaker 3: With his athleticism not super aggressive, I was a little surprising.
• 49:34
Speaker 3: I think they they always start him off with a layup.
• 49:37
Speaker 3: They did it again in this game. They give him
• 49:39
Speaker 3: a nice easy screen on the first play. The next
• 49:41
Speaker 3: one they actually took a shot and they ended up
• 49:43
Speaker 3: getting a pass interference call. But for again, the majority
• 49:46
Speaker 3: of the game under control. Protect the football, use your legs.
• 49:49
Speaker 3: If you have to marry that up with a great defense,
• 49:52
Speaker 3: marry that up with the you know, with the coordinator
• 49:54
Speaker 3: that can protect you. I'm like, this is what that
• 49:56
  Speaker 3: felt like.
• 49:57
Speaker 2: Oh you know, you know what it feels like and
• 49:58
Speaker 2: what it sounds like. It sounds like Russell Wilson from
• 50:00
Speaker 2: his early years in Seattle, when the Garland dose gas
• 50:03
Speaker 2: were for trying to protect Russ against himself before there
• 50:06
Speaker 2: was a course of let Russ cook. It's funny how
• 50:09
Speaker 2: it comes full circle and Russ is playing better because
• 50:12
Speaker 2: Russ is playing like they wanted him to play in Seattle.
• 50:15
Speaker 2: Hats off to Sean Payton for stealing some pages from
• 50:18
Speaker 2: the original blueprint to get Russell Wilson playing well. But
• 50:23
Speaker 2: they're doing those things that he can do well at
• 50:26
Speaker 2: his age and I think the Alex Smith example is
• 50:29
Speaker 2: great because Alex Smith won a lot of games just
• 50:31
Speaker 2: being in the fishing quarterback. And what the Broncos need
• 50:34
Speaker 2: from russ Nell is more mental than physical. They need
• 50:38
Speaker 2: him to be And I hate to say this because
• 50:39
Speaker 2: you're paying whatever two hundred and some million for Russell,
• 50:43
Speaker 2: but he just needs to be a game manager plus right,
• 50:46
Speaker 2: be a game manager for three quarters of the game
• 50:50
Speaker 2: and then in the fourth quarter, just be the playmaker
• 50:52
Speaker 2: when we need you to be. And if he's that,
• 50:54
Speaker 2: and the rest of the pieces of the team appear
• 50:57
Speaker 2: to be even better than we gave them credit for,
• 51:00
Speaker 2: this team can win. The receivers to running backs, the
• 51:02
Speaker 2: defense all playing well. He's doing a good job of managing.
• 51:05
Speaker 2: That's right into winter.
• 51:07
Speaker 3: Do you guys remember this though? And Drew was still
• 51:10
Speaker 3: playing pretty well in the twenty seventeen draft, which was
• 51:13
Speaker 3: the Mahomes draft, right, you remember the Saints were trying
• 51:15
Speaker 3: to trade up to get up there for Mahomes. And
• 51:17
Speaker 3: then he's made I mean, Sean Payton didn't make any
• 51:20
Speaker 3: bones about it, like he told everybody that's what he
• 51:22
Speaker 3: was trying to do. Even though Drew was playing winning football.
• 51:25
Speaker 3: I almost wonder if this is a similar situation where
• 51:27
Speaker 3: I know, obviously the money is there and he's tied
• 51:29
Speaker 3: up in this money, But I feel like, okay, Russ,
• 51:32
Speaker 3: this brand of football is winning them games. If won
• 51:34
Speaker 3: a bunch in a row, might punch their ticket to
• 51:36
Speaker 3: the postseason. Who knows, but to win a championship with
• 51:38
Speaker 3: Sean Payton has done, he knows, he needs, gonna need
• 51:41
Speaker 3: better than what Russell can currently give them. Would it
• 51:44
Speaker 3: surprise you at all if, like, there's a quarterback that
• 51:47
Speaker 3: he really likes, if it's Jayden Daniels, whoever else it is,
• 51:50
Speaker 3: that's in that, you know, not too far of a
• 51:52
Speaker 3: leap to go get him. If even with Russ there,
• 51:55
Speaker 3: if Sean Payton went and got the next guy to
• 51:57
Speaker 3: have RHTT, that wouldn't surprise me at all.
• 52:00
Speaker 1: But don't you go telling Alex Smith now that what
• 52:02
Speaker 1: Russell Wilson's doing his mediocre quarterback play line of conversation.
• 52:08
Speaker 3: He had some good points, he had some good points
• 52:10
Speaker 3: on that. By the way, it was a bad division
• 52:12
Speaker 3: that he was playing in.
• 52:13
  Speaker 1: Yeah, so no, I wouldn't be I wouldn't be surprised.
• 52:17
Speaker 1: I mean, didn't the Saints also make a play for
• 52:19
Speaker 1: Paxton Lynch when he was coming out in the first round.
• 52:21
Speaker 3: Well, they talked about Lamar because I remember Man was
• 52:24
Speaker 3: with us and and Mike was close with Sean Payton.
• 52:27
Speaker 3: I'm not telling tales out of school here, but I
• 52:29
Speaker 3: remember he was enamored by Lamar Jackson. So they was
• 52:32
Speaker 3: thought that he would do that. I think they ended
• 52:33
Speaker 3: up trading up and taking Davenport and we thought, we
• 52:35
Speaker 3: said on the draft they.
• 52:37
Speaker 2: Might be trading that for Lamar Jackson.
• 52:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeaheah, Well, and then we're taking quarterbacks for a while.
• 52:41
Speaker 1: He took Garrett Grayson right in the third round, so
• 52:44
Speaker 1: they were definitely looking right. I mean, so that makes
• 52:46
Speaker 1: a lot of sense. Man. I don't know what the
• 52:51
Speaker 1: Russell contract is and how that all works.
• 52:53
  Speaker 2: Oh it's a lot.
• 52:54
Speaker 3: I think the out is after twenty five according to
• 52:56
Speaker 3: spot track that was on there looking at that.
• 52:59
Speaker 1: But again, you're again, you're paying minimal money to a
• 53:02
Speaker 1: quarterback that you're going to draft, even if you do
• 53:04
Speaker 1: draft them up there, you know, near the top. But
• 53:07
Speaker 1: I don't know, can they are they I mean, look,
• 53:09
Speaker 1: they wont what five in a row now, Yeah, they're
• 53:11
Speaker 1: gonna have to move it's gonna take some maneuvering to
• 53:13
Speaker 1: get up there for one of these dudes this year.
• 53:15
Speaker 3: Well, that's what I'm saying. They haven't tried to get
• 53:17
Speaker 3: up to one or two. I'm talking about ten to fourteen,
• 53:19
  Speaker 3: like someone.
• 53:20
Speaker 1: Maybe the bo Nicks land or there's a bunch of
• 53:23
Speaker 1: them and Daniels as you're talking about. Sure, yeah, I
• 53:27
Speaker 1: could see one hundred percent. I can see it.
• 53:29
Speaker 3: Yeah, that'll be interesting to keep an eye on there.
• 53:32
Speaker 3: Anything else you want to add before we get out here.
• 53:33
Speaker 3: This was a fun one today. A lot of ground
• 53:35
  Speaker 3: we covered here.
• 53:36
Speaker 1: No doubt. I'm just looking at some of the other games.
• 53:39
Speaker 1: I mean, Kyriene Williams is a player rams man. When
• 53:45
Speaker 1: when they can operate, you know with you know the
• 53:48
Speaker 1: way they want to with Kyraene, you know, rushing receipting
• 53:50
Speaker 1: that that was big to watch that And I don't
• 53:54
  Speaker 1: know Patriots.
• 53:57
Speaker 3: Got this week, so I got to jump in and
• 53:59
Speaker 3: watch all that take this week. I prefer not to
• 54:01
Speaker 3: talk about them until they do it after that. By
• 54:04
Speaker 3: the way, as we're as we're closing up shop here,
• 54:08
Speaker 3: our buddy Tom pelasera two minutes ago. Panthers have also
• 54:11
Speaker 3: fired quarterback coach, Josh McCown, an assistant head coach, running
• 54:14
Speaker 3: back coach Do Sdaly per sources. So it is not
• 54:18
Speaker 3: just the head coach. It's a little unusual to see
• 54:20
Speaker 3: that many assistants get get let go. But I would
• 54:23
Speaker 3: also say I was talking to a coach about this
• 54:26
Speaker 3: the other day. Much better if you're a coach to
• 54:30
Speaker 3: get fired as the college carousel is getting ready to
• 54:33
Speaker 3: kick off, then to wait till the NFL season ends,
• 54:37
Speaker 3: because there is another whole pool of jobs and as
• 54:39
Speaker 3: we know, these colleges can pay quite handsomely. So you
• 54:42
Speaker 3: know that is not a bad idea to get let go.
• 54:44
Speaker 2: Now that is interesting in terms of Douce Daley and
• 54:47
Speaker 2: Josh McCown going. So now what appear to many cooks
• 54:50
Speaker 2: in the kitchen? Too many cooks in the kitchen. And
• 54:52
Speaker 2: then if you had like faction's like this is a survivor,
• 54:56
Speaker 2: like I got this click versus that click, like how
• 54:58
Speaker 2: is that working in the And so maybe you're trying
• 55:01
Speaker 2: to give Thomas Brown an opportunity to be the play
• 55:04
Speaker 2: caller without maybe noise in his ear in terms of
• 55:08
Speaker 2: how this offense should look. And maybe that's what they're doing.
• 55:10
Speaker 2: Remember They also elevated and asked Jim Callwell to take
• 55:13
Speaker 2: on more responsibilities and helping Thomas Brown. Jim Callwell helped
• 55:18
Speaker 2: the Baltimore Ravens as a play caller win the Super
• 55:20
Speaker 2: Bowl with Joe Flacco, not saying that he'll have influence,
• 55:23
Speaker 2: but I will say I had a conversation with Jim
• 55:25
Speaker 2: Callwell before he joined the Panthers, like just a random
• 55:28
Speaker 2: conversation about which quarterback he liked. Bryce Young was his
• 55:31
Speaker 2: quarterbackup choice. And so maybe they're trying to get enough
• 55:35
Speaker 2: people around Bryce to see Bryce and maybe the light
• 55:39
Speaker 2: that the owner saw him to give him the best
• 55:41
Speaker 2: opportunity to play at a high level going forward. Yeah,
• 55:45
Speaker 2: I just think back and I don't know.
• 55:46
Speaker 3: I mean, remember the Josh McCown the video at the
• 55:49
Speaker 3: CJ Stroud DJ just bring it by.
• 55:53
Speaker 2: That's this guy. That stuff has to come up, like
• 55:56
Speaker 2: that stuff. Yeah, Like so was there some stuff when
• 55:59
Speaker 2: you're losing where maybe it's not said, but you feel it.
• 56:04
Speaker 2: You feel like I'm not really your guy the way
• 56:07
Speaker 2: you're So maybe they're trying to get all of those
• 56:10
Speaker 2: people out and say, hey, here's how we're going to
• 56:12
  Speaker 2: go forward.
• 56:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, there you go a little little bonus piece
