- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of ryme.
- 0:19Speaker 1: That's kinder.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I like that.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's good to have you in studio. You probably guessed
- 0:23Speaker 1: along by the way, just because I'm easily distracted.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Who'd you bring along today?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yeah? I brought along. Swartz. He is the He was
- 0:31Speaker 2: donated by Fairway Mortgage here in Madison. They paid to
- 0:35Speaker 2: have him trained and then custom k nines and did
- 0:39Speaker 2: the training and he is our chief Happiness Officer and
- 0:44Speaker 2: he works with folks that are struggling with withdrawal anxiety depression.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So he'll go to the different programs and literally, if
- 0:51Speaker 2: you're having an anxiety attack, he'll come and put his
- 0:54Speaker 2: paw on you. Or if you're ready to get you know,
- 0:57Speaker 2: act out and get angry, he'll pick up his leash
- 1:00Speaker 2: and have you take them for a while.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So it's really cool.
- 1:03Speaker 1: There are a few things more calming than a dog.
- 1:06Speaker 1: I'll tell you that as I look forward every day
- 1:08Speaker 1: when I get home sitting on the couch with our
- 1:10Speaker 1: dog as well, that's fantastic. Let's talk about of course,
- 1:13Speaker 1: we've got the big not a Galic Gala coming up
- 1:16Speaker 1: on Friday, February twenty eighth, But before we get to that,
- 1:18Speaker 1: I want to talk about Tulurian. For folks that don't
- 1:21Speaker 1: know what you guys do at Tulurian, let's get a
- 1:24Speaker 1: little bit of background and currently where things sit at Telurian.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah. So Tilarian is located mostly here in Madison, and
- 1:31Speaker 2: believe it or not, we serve over eight thousand people
- 1:36Speaker 2: annually that people that are suffering from mental illness, addiction,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and homeless services. And we're really proud of the work
- 1:45Speaker 2: we do. We are duly credentialed with both mental health
- 1:50Speaker 2: and addiction for all our programs, which really helps our
- 1:53Speaker 2: outcomes because we treat both mental health and addiction simultaneously
- 1:58Speaker 2: and we have twenty two programs that help people in
- 2:01Speaker 2: need right here mostly in Dan County.
- 2:04Speaker 1: What's the I know you guys have a fantastic facility.
- 2:08Speaker 1: It's got to be having a place like that for
- 2:12Speaker 1: people to go has got to be a great benefit.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Previous to that, how how did things work at Telurian
- 2:19Speaker 1: How before you guys had your and I feel I
- 2:22Speaker 1: talk like it's a brand new building, but it's been
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's been probably a decade.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah, for our main facilities, the Teresa McGovern Center, which
- 2:29Speaker 2: was named after I'm Jeorgie McGovern's daughter, Teresa, who tragically
- 2:34Speaker 2: lost her battle with alcoholism and depression. She froze to
- 2:39Speaker 2: death probably over twenty five years ago, leaving the Crystal Corner.
- 2:43Speaker 2: So but out of that tragedy, we built a facility
- 2:48Speaker 2: right here in Madison that serves people in need.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So that's fantastic. And by the way, as we talked
- 2:54Speaker 1: this morning with Kevin, if you want to learn more
- 2:55Speaker 1: of the website for Tulurian, it's Telurian dot org. That's
- 2:58Speaker 1: spelled t e l l e u a ia n
- 3:01Speaker 1: Tilurian dot org. And Kevin, one of the things I
- 3:05Speaker 1: love about Tilurian is the positivity and also the opportunity
- 3:10Speaker 1: to help a great organization. And you guys make it
- 3:15Speaker 1: fun and I'm looking at your fifth annual Tilurian and
- 3:19Speaker 1: not a gala that's going to be taking place Friday,
- 3:21Speaker 1: February twenty eighth at the Concourse Hotel here in town.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It doesn't get much more fun in Wisconsin, Charlie Barns,
- 3:28Speaker 1: And you've got Charlie coming to your event, don't.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yes, we have Charlie coming to our event, which is
- 3:33Speaker 2: awesome and we do We talked about this before we
- 3:37Speaker 2: went on air. Tilarian does two events. We do a
- 3:40Speaker 2: celebrity golf tournament in the summer and now we do
- 3:43Speaker 2: the Tilarian Nata gal in the winter. And we need
- 3:46Speaker 2: to do this because the need for services are so great,
- 3:51Speaker 2: but the funding for services is so poor, So we
- 3:55Speaker 2: truly need the help of the community to help us
- 3:58Speaker 2: serve people in need. Our waiting lists are long and
- 4:02Speaker 2: so we scratch and claw to do anything we can
- 4:05Speaker 2: to help people in need. And what's cool about the
- 4:08Speaker 2: Nata Gala. It's a great way to have fun, raise
- 4:11Speaker 2: some money, raise awareness, reduce the stigma. And if you're
- 4:16Speaker 2: talking fun, Charlie Barons is our master MC comedian for
- 4:24Speaker 2: the nights so and right at the Madison Concourse. So
- 4:27Speaker 2: we are just pumped to have Charlie and celebrate and
- 4:31Speaker 2: raise some funds.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And some other big names. Gilbert Brown I saw also
- 4:36Speaker 1: going to be participating in silent Auction.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Also silent Auction, Live auction, plenty of fun. We're doing
- 4:43Speaker 2: poll tabs. It's a Northwood supper club theme. As you
- 4:46Speaker 2: can imagine with having Charlie, that's going to be our theme.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So we're gonna do Shake of the Day, so different
- 4:52Speaker 2: dice games and poll tabs and you name it. When
- 4:57Speaker 2: it comes to supper clubs. So we tell folks where
- 5:00Speaker 2: your flannel, where your Northwoods boots and swampers, and it's
- 5:04Speaker 2: it's very informal but really fun.
- 5:06Speaker 1: It should be a real fun night. Individuals. Tickets for couples. Also,
- 5:11Speaker 1: I've got to guess a lot of businesses in the
- 5:13Speaker 1: area by buying Bulker.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, so we are really close to selling out, which
- 5:18Speaker 2: is amazing and as you can imagine having someone like
- 5:22Speaker 2: Charlie Barn's, it doesn't take long to sell it out.
- 5:25Speaker 2: But we do have some individual tickets available. But yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 2: a lot of the corporations jumped in right away, one
- 5:32Speaker 2: because they want to see Charlie, but two they support
- 5:35Speaker 2: the work that Tillarian does. And when you talk about supporting,
- 5:40Speaker 2: and like I just mentioned with Schwartz our dog there
- 5:42Speaker 2: there isn't a bigger supporter than Fairway Mortgage located right
- 5:47Speaker 2: here in Madison. But also some other really big sponsors
- 5:52Speaker 2: if you don't mind love to highlight them. Tricor Insurance
- 5:57Speaker 2: and Harker Heating and Cooling are our presenting sponsors, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: Greenwood State Bank and Prairie Shades and Shutters are our
- 6:05Speaker 2: beverage sponsor where we're going to have full fashions instead
- 6:09Speaker 2: of old fashions is our signature drinks. And our auction
- 6:13Speaker 2: sponsors are Sullivan Charitable Fund and cru Concrete. And our
- 6:20Speaker 2: game sponsor is GRB Academy right here and located in
- 6:25Speaker 2: some prairie. And when it comes to baseball lessons, they're
- 6:28Speaker 2: the folks to go to. And then kind of a
- 6:30Speaker 2: cool thing at the end of the night, Chick fil
- 6:32Speaker 2: A is going to be giving everybody free free food
- 6:35Speaker 2: at the end of the night. So yes, so you
- 6:38Speaker 2: gotta love that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Come hungry, come thirsty, that's right, yep, be ready for it,
- 6:42Speaker 1: ready for a good laugh. And what a great cause
- 6:45Speaker 1: this is going to be. I guess we taken place Friday,
- 6:47Speaker 1: February twenty eighth. Limited number of tickets still available. You
- 6:50Speaker 1: can purchase them online to Lurian dot org slash Gala Gala,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I always want to say gala.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not sure which one is feels very right
- 6:57Speaker 2: exactly And iHeart also our media sponsor, which that's a
- 7:03Speaker 2: big shout out to you guys and thirteen ten And.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I know some of those folks are pretty decent, decent.
- 7:08Speaker 2: There's some really good folks that will be there.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that'll be a lot of fun. And I know
- 7:13Speaker 1: we're obviously we're the weather. I think a lot of
- 7:16Speaker 1: us are itching for spring. You mentioned the golf outing,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you mentioned some of Kevin, some of the different events
- 7:21Speaker 1: that you guys do at Tulurian. For folks that say,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you know what, I just want to make an impact.
- 7:27Speaker 1: There's other ways to donate as well. Also, aren't there well.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Sure people can go online? And like I said previously,
- 7:35Speaker 2: I can't stress enough how many people are calling us
- 7:39Speaker 2: for help and they're just isn't the funding. As you
- 7:42Speaker 2: can imagine, if you are suffering from addiction and mental
- 7:47Speaker 2: health issues. A lot of times folks that we see
- 7:49Speaker 2: have lost their job, they've lost insurance. So we do
- 7:55Speaker 2: these two events because we as a company need to
- 7:58Speaker 2: do more to help people in need. And we invite
- 8:01Speaker 2: folks that anybody who wants to volunteer money and or
- 8:04Speaker 2: time please reach out to us because we'll take every
- 8:07Speaker 2: bit of help we can. Yeah, that's gocy too.
- 8:10Speaker 1: About as we talk about, you know, the different programs
- 8:13Speaker 1: offered at Tilurian a lot of success and obviously when
- 8:17Speaker 1: we talk about mental health or we talk about addiction
- 8:20Speaker 1: issues a lot of times for good reason, people want
- 8:23Speaker 1: to and I know it's probably kind of a fine
- 8:26Speaker 1: line want to remain anonymous or want to kind of
- 8:28Speaker 1: you know, get back to normal living. So we don't
- 8:31Speaker 1: always get to see or hear firsthand some of those
- 8:34Speaker 1: success stories because of again some of the things involved.
- 8:37Speaker 1: But you get to see this every day. You get
- 8:39Speaker 1: to witness every single day people going through recovery and
- 8:43Speaker 1: people really getting their lives back. It's it's it's a
- 8:46Speaker 1: huge again, maybe something that people don't always notice, but
- 8:49Speaker 1: you get to see it is a it is a
- 8:50Speaker 1: it has a real huge impact on lives, doesn't it.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Well, part of the reason we go on shows like
- 8:57Speaker 2: yours or do events is because we need to reduce thist.
- 9:01Speaker 2: We know that mental health and addiction is a medical condition. Unfortunately,
- 9:06Speaker 2: though with those two diseases, people are afraid to get
- 9:11Speaker 2: the help because they get judged. But we also know
- 9:14Speaker 2: that through the counseling, through our medical director, through our addictionologist,
- 9:20Speaker 2: our psychiatrist, our psychologists, our master's degree, folks, there is
- 9:25Speaker 2: a great chance that people's life become much better. And
- 9:29Speaker 2: I can't encourage folks enough to reach out to get
- 9:33Speaker 2: the help they need because it works, it really does.
- 9:37Speaker 2: People's lives can become a heck of a lot better.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So can people contact Laurian if they if they are
- 9:41Speaker 1: someone to hear about.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, so I would encourage folks to call our local
- 9:45Speaker 2: number six oh eight two two two seven three one one.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Also go to our website Telarian dot org. And I
- 9:54Speaker 2: want to spill it one more time because people butcher it.
