- 0:00Speaker 1: God is the God of fresh starts and new beginnings
- 0:02Speaker 1: and second chances. God is the God of glory days.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And if you could use some glory days, then welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to the study of the book and life of Joshua.
- 0:16Speaker 1: God gave him and the children of Israel a second
- 0:19Speaker 1: shot at the promised land. They took it and they
- 0:21Speaker 1: were never the same again. And if you're interested in
- 0:25Speaker 1: taking a shot at the promised land, You'll love this story.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You were given an outline as you came in. This
- 0:32Speaker 1: is section number two, our lesson number two. We began
- 0:35Speaker 1: last week. We'll continue through the end of June. A
- 0:38Speaker 1: study of glory days. Let's pray together and then we'll
- 0:44Speaker 1: get to work. We thank you, Lord, for calling us
- 0:48Speaker 1: together today. We ask that you'd please have mercy upon
- 0:52Speaker 1: the speaker. His sins are many. Grant us to see Jesus.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Through Christ we pray. Amen. The time has come to
- 1:05Speaker 1: attack the disease. It has raged untouched too long. It
- 1:12Speaker 1: has infected unhindered too many. Misery bobs in its wake,
- 1:19Speaker 1: abandoned dreams, ravaged marriages, and truncated hopes. Hasn't the malady
- 1:26Speaker 1: of contaminated enough lives. It's time to declare war on
- 1:32Speaker 1: the pestilence that goes by the name, I can't. It
- 1:39Speaker 1: attacks our careers. I can't keep a job. Self-control, I
- 1:43Speaker 1: can't resist the bottle. Our marriages, I can't forgive. Our faith,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I can't believe that God cares for me. I can't
- 1:54Speaker 1: The phrase loiters at the corner of discouragement and despair.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Had Joshua mumbled the phrase, who would have doubted him?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Let's take a minute and look at Joshua's difficulties. Beginning
- 2:12Speaker 1: in chapter 1, in verse 1 of this Old Testament book,
- 2:17Speaker 1: after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord,
- 2:25Speaker 1: We're only words into the book and already someone dies.
- 2:29Speaker 1: The story of Joshua begins with a funeral, the funeral
- 2:33Speaker 1: of Moses, not just anyone, Moses. Moses was everybody to
- 2:38Speaker 1: the Hebrew people. When the people were enslaved, Moses was
- 2:42Speaker 1: the one who confronted Pharaoh. When the Red Sea raged,
- 2:46Speaker 1: Moses was the one who prayed for help. When the
- 2:49Speaker 1: slaves were hungry or thirsty or confused, Moses was the
- 2:52Speaker 1: one who prayed and God responded. God answered his prayers.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Moses was Mandela to the Hebrew people. So to lose
- 3:02Speaker 1: Moses was to lose the cause. Imagine the dismay. Imagine
- 3:09Speaker 1: the fear. Imagine the grief. But the grass had yet
- 3:14Speaker 1: to grow over Moses' grave, and God told Joshua, Moses
- 3:19Speaker 1: is dead now, therefore what?
- 3:23Speaker 2: Arise.
- 3:26Speaker 1: We would have expected him to say, Moses is dead now,
- 3:29Speaker 1: therefore grieve, retreat, reorganize, find a therapist. Instead, he says,
- 3:39Speaker 1: now therefore arise. And already just one verse into the
- 3:42Speaker 1: book and we're getting hints as to a major theme
- 3:45Speaker 1: in the book of Joshua. And that is God's strength
- 3:49Speaker 1: is the strength that matters. Moses may be dead, but
- 3:52Speaker 1: God is alive. The leader may be gone, but the
- 3:56Speaker 1: leader is present. Even so, Joshua could have said, I can't,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I can't do this. He had several reasons not to.
- 4:07Speaker 1: In fact, he had about two million reasons not to.
- 4:12Speaker 1: When you look at the census recorded in the book
- 4:16Speaker 1: of Numbers, chapter 26, an interesting detail surfaces. And that
- 4:21Speaker 1: is Joshua led into Canaan 601,738 men aged 20 and over.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Assuming that two-thirds of those men each had one wife,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and assuming that that man and wife had, I don't know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: a couple of kids, the number of this population swells
- 4:50Speaker 1: quickly to over two million people. Keep that in mind
- 4:53Speaker 1: as you're reading through the book of Joshua. Joshua is
- 4:56Speaker 1: not leading a Boy Scout troop through Canaan. This is
- 5:01Speaker 1: a city the size of San Antonio or San Diego.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Two million people, two million inexperienced people, they've never been
- 5:12Speaker 1: to Canaan. They've been out in the wilderness. They've never
- 5:16Speaker 1: seen a fortified city like Jericho or trained fighters like
- 5:20Speaker 1: the fighters of Ahi. They can fight snakes. They can
- 5:25Speaker 1: handle the desert. But do they have any response to
- 5:30Speaker 1: the iron-wheeled chariots of the Canaanites? And speaking of the Canaanites,
- 5:35Speaker 1: what about all these enemies? The Amalekites, the Hittites, the Canaanites,
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Amorites, the Jerichoites, the Selulites. Odd names to us,
- 5:49Speaker 1: but these names struck fear in the hearts of the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Hebrew people. You need to understand, for 400 years, these
- 5:58Speaker 1: people had a stronghold on this land. They were referred
- 6:04Speaker 1: to as early as in the days of Abraham in
- 6:08Speaker 1: the book of Genesis, when God told then Abram, Know
- 6:14Speaker 1: certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land
- 6:17Speaker 1: that is not theirs and will serve them and they
- 6:20Speaker 1: will afflict them 400 years. But they shall return here
- 6:24Speaker 1: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.
- 6:28Speaker 1: God foreseeing the evil hold that the Amorites would have
- 6:33Speaker 1: on this land. That it would continue for 400 years.
- 6:39Speaker 1: For 400 years these people had contaminated this land that
- 6:44Speaker 1: God had given to Abraham. Historians tell us that they
- 6:48Speaker 1: sacrificed babies in worship. That they practiced orgies. They dedicated
- 6:53Speaker 1: themselves to witchcraft and idolatry. The Talmud, which is the
- 6:58Speaker 1: ancient commentary on the Bible from the Jewish culture, called
- 7:02Speaker 1: the Amorites an evil and sinful people whose wickedness surpasses
- 7:05Speaker 1: that of any other. Whose life will be cut short
- 7:09Speaker 1: on earth. Yet another reason for Joshua to say, I
- 7:12Speaker 1: can't do this. I can't. Moses is dead. I can't.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I've got a bunch of inexperienced tenderfoots. Two million of them.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I can't. Have you seen the people on the other
- 7:27Speaker 1: side of the Jordan River? They eat folks like us
- 7:29Speaker 1: for breakfast. But Joshua never had a chance to declare defeat.
- 7:41Speaker 1: He was still reeling from the death of Moses and
- 7:45Speaker 1: then the invitation of God when God gave them this declaration.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Look at it. Arise and go over this Jordan, you
- 7:54Speaker 1: and all this people, to the land which what? I
- 8:01Speaker 1: am giving them. Underline that phrase. I am giving them.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Not the land I might give them. not the land
- 8:13Speaker 1: you must conquer, not the land of which you must
- 8:16Speaker 1: prove worthy, not the land you must earn, confiscate, conquer,
- 8:19Speaker 1: or purchase, but you must go to the land I
- 8:23Speaker 1: am giving them. A transaction had already happened. God was
- 8:28Speaker 1: giving them the land. The victory had already been won.
- 8:32Speaker 1: The decision had already been made. So victory was certain
- 8:39Speaker 1: because victory was God's. When I was 16 years old,
- 8:50Speaker 1: something remotely similar happened to me. One night at the
- 8:55Speaker 1: Locato dinner table, somewhere between the passing of the beans
- 8:59Speaker 1: and the passing of the peas, a set of keys
- 9:04Speaker 1: appeared on the table next to my plate. I looked
- 9:08Speaker 1: at the keys, and the ensuing dialogue went something like this, Max,
- 9:16Speaker 1: What are these keys? Dead. Keys to a Plymouth sedan
- 9:21Speaker 1: that's parked out in the driveway in front of the house. Max,
- 9:26Speaker 1: whose car is it? Dead.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yours?
- 9:30Speaker 1: Max, are you serious? Dead. Serious is a heart attack. Max, gulp.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I had asked my dad for a car every single
- 9:47Speaker 1: day of my life. In my sonogram picture, I am
- 9:56Speaker 1: holding a sign that says, car, please. Other babies, when
- 10:04Speaker 1: they say their first word, say, mama. I said, Mustang.
- 10:12Speaker 1: But my father's stock reply to my daily pleadings was, Max, please.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You will have a car once you, and then fill
- 10:22Speaker 1: in the blank. Earn it, buy it, save up for it,
- 10:28Speaker 1: qualify for government subsidy. He made it clear car acquisition
- 10:36Speaker 1: was my job. But then came this wonderful, glorious event.
- 10:44Speaker 1: This change of course in which he handed me the keys.
- 10:51Speaker 1: In a moment of weakness, he didn't hand me payment vouchers.
- 10:56Speaker 1: He didn't hand me car payment requirements. It turned out
- 11:00Speaker 1: the company for which he worked, Exxon, called Humble in
- 11:04Speaker 1: those days, was auctioning off a bunch of company cars,
- 11:09Speaker 1: dirt cheap. And in a moment of weakness, he bought
- 11:13Speaker 1: me one. Here's an old... sedan, four-door company car, but hey,
- 11:20Speaker 1: who's picky? I had a car. He handed it to me.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I had a car because he decided to give it
- 11:31Speaker 1: to me. Simple as that. The Hebrews had this land
- 11:36Speaker 1: because God determined that it would be theirs. Simple as that.
- 11:42Speaker 1: About the time Joshua lifted his jaw off the ground,
- 11:45Speaker 1: God gave him the specks of a land. He said,
- 11:49Speaker 1: every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon, I,
- 11:53Speaker 1: there it is again, have given you. As I said
- 11:57Speaker 1: to Moses, from the wilderness of this, in this Lebanon,
- 12:00Speaker 1: as far out as the great river, the river Euphrates,
- 12:03Speaker 1: and all the land of the Hittites, And to the
- 12:06Speaker 1: great sea toward the going down of the sun, this
- 12:08Speaker 1: shall be your territory. Now these were gypsies. They didn't
- 12:12Speaker 1: own a sandlot. They didn't have anything. Yet in one
- 12:16Speaker 1: grand divine fiat, they were given the land of their dreams.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Really the choice property on the planet. God handed Joshua
- 12:27Speaker 1: the keys. And Joshua, in a great moment of faith,
- 12:32Speaker 1: took the keys and said, I accept it. And I'm
- 12:37Speaker 1: wondering if it is time for you to do the same.
- 12:43Speaker 1: If you have given your heart to Christ, God has
- 12:47Speaker 1: given Canaan to you. If you have given your heart
- 12:55Speaker 1: to Christ, then God already has given you a promised land.
- 13:03Speaker 1: The book of Ephesians in many ways is a New
- 13:06Speaker 1: Testament version of the book of Joshua. And in Ephesians
- 13:10Speaker 1: chapter 1 and verse 3, Paul says, God has blessed
- 13:15Speaker 1: us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in
- 13:24Speaker 1: Christ Jesus. What's the tense here?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Past.
- 13:32Speaker 1: This is past tense. He has blessed us. Not he
- 13:35Speaker 1: will bless. Might bless. Someday could bless. There's no conditional
- 13:39Speaker 1: language here. There's no secret, hidden. This is a statement
- 13:47Speaker 1: of something that has happened. The promised land property has
- 13:51Speaker 1: been placed in your name. Canaan has already been given
- 13:55Speaker 1: to you. A transaction has happened in the heavenly courtroom
- 14:00Speaker 1: in which your name has been written at the bottom
- 14:03Speaker 1: of the deed that says promised land. You already have
- 14:07Speaker 1: access to every spiritual blessing that God can give. Stated
- 14:14Speaker 1: another way, you already have everything you need to be
- 14:17Speaker 1: everything God desires. You already, and I do too, have
- 14:25Speaker 1: everything you need to be everything God desires. This very
- 14:33Speaker 1: well may be the greatest secret of Christendom. We underestimate,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I believe, what happened to us and what happens to
- 14:46Speaker 1: others upon conversion. Most people, when asked, what happened when
- 14:54Speaker 1: you became a Christian, will say something like, well, my
- 14:57Speaker 1: sins were washed away. I was forgiven. I was cleansed.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And indeed you were. Cleansing happens upon conversion. But most
- 15:11Speaker 1: people limit it to a cleansing, an act of forgiveness,
- 15:15Speaker 1: a washing away of the past. As one man said,
- 15:19Speaker 1: you go in an old clunker and you go through
- 15:23Speaker 1: the car wash and you come out a clean clunker.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Most of us assume that conversion is simply a matter
- 15:31Speaker 1: of cleansing of sin, which it is. But oh, there
- 15:36Speaker 1: is so much more. You see, in God's plan, you
- 15:39Speaker 1: go in a dirty clunker, but you come out a clean,
- 15:43Speaker 1: sleek Maserati. He removes the old engine, caked and cracked
- 15:50Speaker 1: and broken as it is with rebellion and evil. And
- 15:54Speaker 1: he places within it a humming, roaring version of the
- 15:58Speaker 1: Holy Spirit. He embeds within you. He embeds. Don't look
- 16:04Speaker 1: at me like I'm making this up. He embedded within
- 16:08Speaker 1: you the very presence of himself. He has blessed you
- 16:14Speaker 1: with every spiritual benefit, every heavenly blessing. That's why the
- 16:20Speaker 1: apostle Paul said, therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he
- 16:23Speaker 1: is a new creation. Old things have passed away. Behold,
- 16:31Speaker 1: all things have become new. All things, all things new.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Potential for a new attitude. Potential for a new self-control.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Potential for a new faith. Potential for a new compassion.
- 16:44Speaker 1: All things have become new. For Joshua, glory days began
- 16:52Speaker 1: with a paradigm shift. Joshua 101 says, see life differently.
- 17:02Speaker 1: You need a new paradigm shift. The old paradigm said,
- 17:06Speaker 1: if I work hard enough, I can achieve the promised land.
- 17:10Speaker 1: The new paradigm says, you have the promised land, now
- 17:13Speaker 1: receive it. The old paradigm says, earn God's favor and
- 17:20Speaker 1: he will bless me. The new paradigm says, I have
- 17:24Speaker 1: God's favor. Now I'm going to learn to receive the
- 17:29Speaker 1: blessings of God. The old paradigm said, if I save
- 17:32Speaker 1: up enough money, I can get a Plymouth. The new
- 17:35Speaker 1: paradigm said, hey, I got a Plymouth. I'm going to
- 17:39Speaker 1: learn how to drive it. I'm going to take good
- 17:41Speaker 1: care of it. Thanks, Dad. See the difference? One is
- 17:48Speaker 1: in the wilderness. One is in Canaan. God wants to
- 17:53Speaker 1: move us into Canaan. In Canaan, we do not fight
- 17:56Speaker 1: for victory. We fight from victory. In Canaan, we do
- 18:02Speaker 1: not fight for victory. We fight from victory. In the
- 18:08Speaker 1: wilderness you strive. In Canaan you trust. In the wilderness
- 18:12Speaker 1: you seek God's attention. In Canaan you have God's favor.
- 18:15Speaker 1: In the wilderness you seek to be saved. In Canaan
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know you are saved. You move from wanting to
- 18:20Speaker 1: be to believing you already have. God has given us
- 18:26Speaker 1: everything we need for living a godly life. Everything.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Everything.
- 18:32Speaker 1: God will equip you with all you need for doing
- 18:34Speaker 1: His will. You see, when you were born into Christ,
- 18:37Speaker 1: you were placed in Christ's royal family. As many as
- 18:40Speaker 1: received Him, He gave the right to become children of God.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And since you're a part of the family, you have
- 18:45Speaker 1: access to the family blessings, all of them. In him,
- 18:49Speaker 1: we also have obtained an inheritance. The will has been executed.
- 18:53Speaker 1: The courts have been satisfied and your spiritual account has
- 18:56Speaker 1: been funded. You are no longer a slave, but God's child.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And since you are his child, he has also made
- 19:02Speaker 1: you and what? An heir. Are you surprised? You ain't
- 19:07Speaker 1: heard nothing yet. In another passage, the Apostle Paul says,
- 19:11Speaker 1: the Spirit Himself bears witness that we are children of God.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And if children, then heirs. Look at this. Heirs of
- 19:17Speaker 1: God and joint heirs with Peter, Paul, Moses.
- 19:22Speaker 2: No.
- 19:23Speaker 1: We are joint heirs with Christ. Whatever Christ has access to,
- 19:28Speaker 1: we have access to. Don't look at me like that.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Whatever Christ has access to, we have access to. As
- 19:38Speaker 1: the Apostle John said in 1 John 4 17, our
- 19:42Speaker 1: standing in the world is identical with Christ's. This means
- 19:47Speaker 1: that God has placed on this planet right now people
- 19:51Speaker 1: in whom he dwells they are a chosen people empowered
- 19:57Speaker 1: people they have something that others do not They have
- 20:02Speaker 1: the living presence of Christ within them. They have access
- 20:06Speaker 1: to power that others do not have. And if you
- 20:08Speaker 1: have said yes to Christ, then Christ has handed the
- 20:12Speaker 1: keys to Canaan to you. Astounding, isn't it? Which raises
- 20:20Speaker 1: this question. How then do we explain the disconnect? How
- 20:28Speaker 1: do we explain it? If we're coyers with Christ, why
- 20:32Speaker 1: do we struggle so in life? If our inheritance is
- 20:36Speaker 1: perfect peace, why do we feel like a perfect mess?
- 20:41Speaker 1: We have access to the joy level of Jesus, yet
- 20:43Speaker 1: we plod along like dyspeptic donkeys. God has given us
- 20:49Speaker 1: the trust fund that makes Bill Gates look like a pauper,
- 20:52Speaker 1: and yet we still worry, we still fret, we're still anxious.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Why?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Why? I can think of a couple of reasons. One,
- 21:03Speaker 1: we don't know about our inheritance. I have a hunch
- 21:07Speaker 1: that vast numbers, thousands of Christians just don't know this.
- 21:13Speaker 1: We don't know the exceeding greatness of his power toward
- 21:16Speaker 1: us who believe. No one ever told us that we
- 21:18Speaker 1: fight from victory, not for victory. Some Christians never live
- 21:23Speaker 1: out of their inheritance because they just simply didn't know
- 21:27Speaker 1: they had one. They thought wilderness was where we're supposed
- 21:30Speaker 1: to be. There's a Native American fable about a brave
- 21:35Speaker 1: who happened upon a nest of eagle eggs. Deciding to
- 21:39Speaker 1: have some fun, he took one of the eagle eggs
- 21:42Speaker 1: and he placed it in a nest with some prairie chickens.
- 21:46Speaker 1: The eggs hatched and the changeling eagle believed himself to
- 21:50Speaker 1: be a prairie chicken. So he spent his life clucking
- 21:56Speaker 1: and cackling and scurrying. He never tried to fly much
- 22:01Speaker 1: more than a few feet off the ground. He thought
- 22:04Speaker 1: he was destined to be a chicken. Then one day
- 22:08Speaker 1: an eagle soared through the sky and something within him leapt.
- 22:13Speaker 1: And he looked up and he said, oh, what a
- 22:15Speaker 1: beautiful bird. What is that? And one of the chickens said, oh,
- 22:19Speaker 1: that's an eagle. You can never be one of those.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And he believed the chicken. And he went about his
- 22:27Speaker 1: task of dirt scratching, bug eating, and clucking. When you
- 22:37Speaker 1: read the story of Jesus Christ in the gospel, something
- 22:40Speaker 1: within you leaps. He was never anxious. He always seemed
- 22:50Speaker 1: to have wisdom. He was also compassionate. He respected the
- 22:57Speaker 1: beauty of every person. There was just something about him.
- 23:01Speaker 1: The most perfect person to ever live. Something inside you says,
- 23:06Speaker 1: I want to be like him. But Satan has turned
- 23:15Speaker 1: millions of demons loose on this planet like chickens. And
- 23:20Speaker 1: they whisper to us, oh, you can never do that.
- 23:24Speaker 1: You were born the wrong era. You come from the
- 23:26Speaker 1: wrong generation. You don't have the right gender. You're not
- 23:30Speaker 1: educated enough. Look at your past. And so the eagle
- 23:35Speaker 1: flies and we cluck, cluck, cluck. But every so often,
- 23:41Speaker 1: someone defies the voices of I can't and hears the
- 23:46Speaker 1: voice that says, with Christ I can. And they begin
- 23:50Speaker 1: to soar. Because they realized that they had been given
- 23:55Speaker 1: an inheritance. Moses, when he spoke to the children of
- 24:00Speaker 1: Israel in the wilderness days, he had to remind them,
- 24:04Speaker 1: God brought us out of Egypt so he could give
- 24:06Speaker 1: us the land he had sworn to our ancestors. In
- 24:11Speaker 1: other words, God brought you out of Egypt so he
- 24:13Speaker 1: could take you in. He brought you out so he
- 24:16Speaker 1: could take you in. They were happy for the wilderness.
- 24:21Speaker 1: God says the same to us. I brought you out
- 24:24Speaker 1: of sin so I could take you into power. I
- 24:28Speaker 1: brought you out of fear so I could take you
- 24:30Speaker 1: into courage. He didn't bring us out just to clean
- 24:34Speaker 1: us up and leave us there. He brought us out
- 24:40Speaker 1: to turn us from old clunkers into powerful forces. He
- 24:50Speaker 1: needed to remind the children of Israel of this. I
- 24:53Speaker 1: think we need the reminder as well. Maybe you didn't
- 24:57Speaker 1: know this. Now you do. Which brings the second question.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Will you trust it? Will you trust it? This is
- 25:08Speaker 1: the second explanation for our weakness. We simply don't believe
- 25:12Speaker 1: our inheritance. I had trouble believing my dad would give
- 25:15Speaker 1: me a car. But you can bet your sweet September
- 25:20Speaker 1: it wasn't long until I was putting that promise to test.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Joshua believed. Will you believe? Will you begin to live
- 25:30Speaker 1: like a child of inheritance? God told Joshua, every place
- 25:35Speaker 1: that the sole of your foot will tread upon I
- 25:37Speaker 1: have given you. As I said to Moses, implied in
- 25:42Speaker 1: that statement is, I made this promise 40 years ago
- 25:45Speaker 1: and they didn't take me up on it. Glory Days
- 25:50Speaker 1: could have begun 40 years ago, but the people didn't
- 25:54Speaker 1: believe me. Much to Joshua's credit, he believed. And he
- 26:02Speaker 1: said about the task of inheriting the land. What about you?
- 26:07Speaker 1: Do you believe that you are embedded with the very
- 26:10Speaker 1: presence of God? Do you believe... that you are embedded
- 26:21Speaker 1: with the very presence of God? Do you believe that
- 26:27Speaker 1: when you walk into a room, the presence of God
- 26:29Speaker 1: is in that room? Do you believe that even though
- 26:36Speaker 1: you can't forgive someone, God can, and since He can,
- 26:41Speaker 1: you can. And even though you can't quit drinking, God can,
- 26:47Speaker 1: and since He's in you, you can. And even though
- 26:53Speaker 1: you can't control your temper, control your tongue, control your
- 26:56Speaker 1: sexual urges, God can. And with His help, He can
- 27:01Speaker 1: change you. Day by day, you have access to the
- 27:04Speaker 1: spiritual power. Every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies is yours.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And it's simply a matter of learning to drive the Plymouth.
- 27:13Speaker 1: learning to live in the new land, learning to live
- 27:15Speaker 1: with your new identity. You see, wilderness people and Canaan
- 27:21Speaker 1: people have two different outlooks. Wilderness people say, I'm weak
- 27:25Speaker 1: and I'll always be weak. Canaan people say, well, I
- 27:27Speaker 1: was weak, but I'm getting stronger. Wilderness people say, I'm
- 27:31Speaker 1: a victim of my environment. Promised land people say, I'm
- 27:34Speaker 1: a victor in spite of my environment. Wilderness people say,
- 27:38Speaker 1: no one in my family has ever amounted to much.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I guess I won't either. God's people say, doesn't matter
- 27:44Speaker 1: what my family did because I am now born into
- 27:47Speaker 1: the family of God. We can only imagine what would
- 27:52Speaker 1: happen if a generation of Christians lived out of their inheritance.
- 27:57Speaker 1: What would happen if God's people really lived like God's people?
- 28:02Speaker 1: Men would turn off internet porn. Lonely women would find
- 28:05Speaker 1: comfort in God, not in the arms of strangers. Struggling
- 28:08Speaker 1: marriages would spend more time in prayer, less time in anger.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Children would consider it a blessing to care for their
- 28:15Speaker 1: aging parents. A chicken coop full of Christian eagles would
- 28:20Speaker 1: vacate the barnyard. Let's say, I can't less. Let's begin saying,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I can more. God's power is very great for those
- 28:34Speaker 1: of us who believe. That power is the same strength
- 28:37Speaker 1: God used to raise Christ from the dead. I want
- 28:41Speaker 1: to encourage you. Turn your I can'ts into I can's.
- 28:46Speaker 1: With Christ I can. I can do all things through Christ.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Because he gives me the strength. A new day awaits
- 28:58Speaker 1: you my friend. A new day of discovery. A new
- 29:02Speaker 1: day of hope. A new day of power. You are
- 29:06Speaker 1: no longer the person you used to be. And you're
- 29:09Speaker 1: just a fraction of the person you're going to be.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Because by God's power, we're going to all learn what
- 29:15Speaker 1: it's like to be children of the promise. Inherit God's
- 29:19Speaker 1: promised land.
- 29:20Speaker 3: All right?
- 29:21Speaker 1: Good days are ahead. Let's all be standing. Let's make
- 29:23Speaker 1: this declaration. The words will appear on the screen. Fill
- 29:29Speaker 1: your lungs with air, your hearts with hope, and say
- 29:32Speaker 1: it like you mean it. These days are glory days.
- 29:36Speaker 1: My past is past. My future is bright. God's promises
- 29:41Speaker 1: are true and his word is sure. With God as
- 29:45Speaker 1: my helper, I will be all he wants me to be,
- 29:49Speaker 1: do all he wants me to do and receive all
- 29:53Speaker 1: he wants me to receive. These days are glory days. Yes, Lord.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We try our best, Lord.
- 30:02Speaker 1: We have to have your help because even as we
- 30:04Speaker 1: seek to be people of the promise, we fall back
- 30:08Speaker 1: and become people of the curse. Today, Lord, though, we're
- 30:12Speaker 1: stepping forward in faith, stepping into the promised land, asking you, Lord,
- 30:18Speaker 1: to help us be the people you want us to be.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Thank you for the gift. Thank you for your love.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Thank you for your favor. Thank you for your devotion
- 30:26Speaker 1: to us. Through Jesus we pray. And all the church said?
- 31:43Speaker 4: So so.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I'll be all right. You don't have to stay. If
- 36:20Speaker 2: you've already chosen, I.
- 36:23Speaker 3: Won't stand in your way. I can feel it in
- 36:29Speaker 3: your distance, in the way you barely speak. Like your
- 36:36Speaker 3: heart is somewhere else now, somewhere I can't reach. I
- 36:43Speaker 3: was trying just to hold us While you slowly slipped
- 36:48Speaker 3: away Now I'm left with all the silence.
- 36:54Speaker 5: You didn't want to say Maybe I just held on
- 37:05Speaker 5: To something.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Already gone.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I'll be fine, you can.
- 37:14Speaker 5: Leave You don't owe me anything If your heart is
- 37:21Speaker 5: found away Out of.
- 37:24Speaker 3: What we used to be I'll be fine, don't.
- 37:29Speaker 4: Look back I'll survive this empty space Not tonight, maybe
- 37:36Speaker 4: not soon But I'll.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Learn To be okay We don't need to fake the
- 37:47Speaker 2: feeling I can see it in your eyes There's no
- 37:53Speaker 2: reason left for staying When.
- 37:56Speaker 4: The love already died.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Through the quiet in your voice.
- 38:09Speaker 4: I can hear your choice. I'll be fine.
- 38:16Speaker 1: You can leave. You don't owe me anything.
- 38:22Speaker 5: If your heart has found a way. Out of what
- 38:27Speaker 5: we used to be.
- 38:29Speaker 1: I'll be fine. Don't look back.
- 38:33Speaker 4: I'll survive this empty space. Not tonight.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Maybe not soon.
- 38:40Speaker 3: But I'll learn to be okay.
- 38:45Speaker 1: I don't need a reason why.
- 38:47Speaker 4: I can see it in goodbye.
- 38:53Speaker 1: And it breaks me, it does.
- 38:55Speaker 4: But I won't ask you to stay. I'll be fine.
- 39:04Speaker 4: You can't leave.
- 39:06Speaker 5: You don't owe me anything.
- 39:10Speaker 1: If your heart is found away.
- 39:18Speaker 4: I'll be fine, don't look back I'll survive this empty
- 39:23Speaker 4: space Not tonight, maybe not soon But I'll learn I'll
- 39:20Speaker 4: be all right.
