- 1:38The Chiseling Chimpanzee The Adventures of the Saint, starring Vincent Price. The Saint
- 2:17based on characters created by Leslie Travers and known to millions from books, magazines,
- 2:23and motion pictures. The robin Hood of modern crime now comes transcribe to
- 2:27radio, starring Hollywood's brilliant and talented actor Vincent Price as the Saint. I'm
- 2:37out of town. I curled up in front of the fire with a good
- 2:40book, and I haven't got a good book. Do you have a good
- 2:46book? Only the best? Can't wait and learn how to read tonight?
- 2:49I am not the illiterates, little friend. Good night. Think it's too
- 2:53late. Think of a desert moon. Think of a black sky sprinkled with
- 2:57silver star I'm trying another minute now here, a coyote howling. Think of
- 3:00a small blonde with big eyes. You don't sound like a small blonde.
- 3:05I wouldn't know about the eye. Her name was Marie, in her mood
- 3:07was art. You were hiding when you got back with the Holly What she
- 3:12slapped me in the fit? Raleighray? How are you, Simon? I'm
- 3:15keeping up with my Social Security payments and you making a series of personal appearances
- 3:20all over the country in the shrinking flesh the studio's idea, Simon, I
- 3:23know it's late, but I've got to see you right away. Well,
- 3:27the address is thirty nine Fitch Avenue. If you hurry over, I'll give
- 3:30you a shampoo. I already had a shampoo. Stop boasting and come on
- 3:32over. You sound worried. Going out of my mind might not be a
- 3:36long trip, but Simon, I'm besieged by a gorilla. Hello, Raley,
- 3:57Symon, come on, hey, it's good to see. Yeah,
- 4:00Marie still remembers you. I duck every time I meet her. Raleigh.
- 4:04I hate to get personal, but someone has confused you with grant. This
- 4:10tomb is renting. This Marth Eaton mansion was the studios idea. I tried
- 4:14to have him put in a small subway, but they got very smited about
- 4:16it. It's really a very nice mansion. When did draget to move out?
- 4:20Keep this under your hat, but I think he's still around, lurking.
- 4:25Let's start the long track, all right. The idea is just just
- 4:29set a steady pace and keep to it. Yeah, but how do you
- 4:30know you're going in the right direction? The moss on the mornings. Oh
- 4:34yeah, see, Raley, what about this gorilla you mentioned over the phone?
- 4:38Oh, I'd forgotten about him for a few fleeting moments, Simon.
- 4:41The next picture I'm doing is a jungle picture? Oh you mean? Whoa?
- 4:46Anyway, the studio got the broad idea of having me photographed next to
- 4:48one of our furry little brothers, so they issued a dozen memos, and
- 4:53a little man complete with gorilla, showed up here about an hour ago with
- 4:56nine thousand photographers. Oh we hear it to the left here, Oh thank
- 5:00you. The photographers ran out of flash ball some time ago and left the
- 5:03gent with the primate. His name is Prebol the primate, no, the
- 5:06gent. He seems to feel reluctant about leaving. Is he bigger than you
- 5:11are? No? But then why the desperation called to me? I don't
- 5:15know exactly, except that Pribyl isn't some kind of a jam. He wouldn't
- 5:18tell me what it was, But shy, no, terrified. I think
- 5:24we've made it. The gorilla's only a very small monkeys. And this is
- 5:30mister Prebyl. Mister PREBYL. Simon Templar. How do you do? How
- 5:34do you do? Simon Templar? Yes, in a haphazard sort of way.
- 5:41You're the kind of man who might be able to help me. He'd
- 5:43be afraid of you, who would be I don't know if I should tell
- 5:46you, because maybe maybe I'm guilty, too, guilty of what I'd better
- 5:51go now. Perhaps after I think it over, may I call on you
- 5:56for aid, if, of course you may, thank you very much,
- 6:00Wenceslaus. We're leaving now, waits Laus. Yes, he's a very talented
- 6:04monkey. I've spent years training him. Now perhaps he's going to be the
- 6:08reason why I'll go to jail. That is good night, mister Ames.
- 6:13You were very cooperative part of my job. But why don't you break down
- 6:16and tell mister Templar all thousands, many millions of people I have, I'm
- 6:20sure of that. I can't decide whether I can be helped. Please,
- 6:25I'll go now if you don't mind, all right, I think you can
- 6:27find the front door all by yourself. I'm sure I can't. I'm in
- 6:30the phone book, mister Freeble, and i'd suggest you don't wait too long.
- 6:33I won't. He's a funny little man. He was practically running when
- 6:42he left. Nothing much you can do for him if he won't open up.
- 6:45Perhaps not, but Raleigh, let's go after him. But Simon,
- 6:48I've seen terror in people's eyes before, and I don't like it. It
- 6:51isn't pretty, Samon. If you get any idea about what's bothering, not
- 6:56much of one, But from what he said, I'd guessed it somehow,
- 7:00and probably innocently, he'd gotten himself involved with something or somebody highly illegal.
- 7:05The monkey figure's in it too. He's made the front door. My legs
- 7:11hold out and we catch up with him, I'd like to Simon, Yeah,
- 7:15that was pre bol Come on, we run for it, and part
- 7:19turned the corner too far away to get the license number. Well, maybe
- 7:25maybe someone's playing a joke on preeble, Simon. It wasn't a very good
- 7:30joke, Rawley. People died, but not laughing. I've pulled the police.
- 7:46I'll beeka pretty soon. Good, there's not much point in my remaining,
- 7:48and don't even irritate them. All right, But Simon, take the
- 7:53monkey with you. Huh what? I'm not the type on which a monkey
- 7:56looks good. Besides, I think people would prefer to have you hold onto
- 7:59the monk you rather than the police. Maybe you're right the monkey was involved
- 8:03in anything and wasn't under police guard. Things might happen, all right,
- 8:09I'll take him. I liked people. It could be sticking your neck out
- 8:13asking for the axe, Simon gentlemend not to you now. As a matter
- 8:16of fact, I liked that too, monkey with murder shut out. What
- 8:35would the neighbors say hello? I'd say hello, I've been waiting for you.
- 8:39You have, That's why I'm out of breath. Well, it would
- 8:43be fun believing that. But when men I ran up the stairs to be
- 8:46here ahead of you, Oh it was you and that cab that followed mine.
- 8:50Huh shouldn't we discuss this inside? Perhaps we should? The light twitches
- 9:01to your right, got it? Oh? Nice? Thank you. My
- 9:07name is Simon Temper, I know, and this is Winces Lousy. He's
- 9:11a monkey. I know that too. You're very bright. But what's on
- 9:15your mind? I'm afraid to tell you? Well, I wonder if I'm
- 9:18afraid to hear. Look away for a minute, and well it can't be
- 9:22that embarrassed, please, I'm shy. Well all right, I'm looking away
- 9:28about having anyone see me take this out of my bag? Oh oh that
- 9:33this mm lola? You have deceived me? Have I thought you were preparing
- 9:37to tell me how smiften you were by my curly lot. They're cute.
- 9:43Yeah, I didn't expect you to point a revolver. I mean, but
- 9:46you see, WinCE's loss has even curlier, lot more too. That's right.
- 9:50So I'll take him and you can go to sleep. But I'm not
- 9:54sleeping. Would you rather be dead? You can't shoot me? Why not?
- 9:58It's not in my lease? Why do you want the monkey? I'm
- 10:01very fond of Wenceslas an old schoolmate? Or did he belong to someone?
- 10:05You love? Simon? You're bitter, You're beautiful, thank you? Why
- 10:09Simon? And possibly a murderer. That's the nicest thing anybody has ever said
- 10:15to me. Good night, Simon. Don't look around, Lola, but
- 10:18someone's just opened the door behind you. Such an old trick, Simon.
- 10:22Believe me, this isn't a trick. It isn't going to do me any
- 10:26good either. From the luxu things. It's your loved Max. Drop the
- 10:33palm, I drop it all right. Now we're all one happy family.
- 10:41I'm not happy. What do you want? Uh huh? You want to
- 10:43laugh and be merry and you have to do it in my living room.
- 10:46And you are a very lucky guy. I count my blessings every night because
- 10:50no, you only got a half for explanation to make I was young foolish
- 10:54the night with For example, would I have walked in and found Lola their
- 10:58sitting in your then you would have had to explain that too. It would
- 11:03be silly. The explanation would be obvious if but seeing as how Lula was
- 11:07not being friendly all that, you got to explain. How come you got
- 11:11the monkey? When's his last? Oh? It's love, Max. He
- 11:15loves me from my eyes, obliviates me for my mom. Hah hah.
- 11:20I must be getting greater performance. Yeah, and so far you're still alive
- 11:24too, not like prebol. Suppose we leave personalities out of this. How'd
- 11:30you get the monkey? He followed me home? I'm beginning to stop laughing.
- 11:33Oh that's a shame. You have such a jolly laugh. I am
- 11:37beginning to get so, Max, keep out of this for the time being.
- 11:41You were in a clear He was removing a monkey from this guy here.
- 11:45What you were going to do once you had the monkey? I was
- 11:46going to bring him to you. Yeah, well, I will decide if
- 11:48I want to believe that in my leisure time. Right now, I'm waiting
- 11:54for Junior there to make with the lips. You mean you want when's his
- 11:56last to chat? I mean you? Oh all right, But there was
- 12:01once a young lady of Siam who remarked, oh what a big girl I
- 12:05am. Oh you heard that one? Well, how about the monkey?
- 12:09I was hoping you wouldn't notice that a little darling picked up all of this
- 12:13gun. Listen, pl you woke me. I write your cue all.
- 12:16On the other hand, thank you, Wenceslaus. You see fond of my
- 12:20shoulder. Now I've got a gun too. Well, how do you like
- 12:26that? It's a nice touch. Wentz's last is very bright. Now I
- 12:30got a gun point and that you that you've got a gun point with me.
- 12:33That's beautifully for it. And if we was to trade bullets, maybe
- 12:37one of us might get out of line. Ah, but which one right
- 12:41now? I ain't sure. I want to find out. How about U
- 12:45arbitrating? Of course, you drop your gun and get out of here,
- 12:48and I'll go to sleep. I don't have to drop my gun to get
- 12:52out of here. That's true enough. All right, let's observe that happy
- 12:56event. Get out. But I gotta have the monkey doesn't like you.
- 13:00I still, hey, host, play with the light, Lola. Somebody
- 13:07left, perhaps a couple of somebodies. I don't know yet. Don't put
- 13:11the lights on. Why, I'm afraid of what we'll see. Shooting's over,
- 13:16I've got to I was so frightened. So I've nobody's been shot.
- 13:22Max is gone. Somebody has been shot. Low. Oh a monkey,
- 13:30Yeah, he's dead. I'm sorry about that. I sort of liked Wenceslaus.
- 13:35Wenceslaus isn't interested anymore. I am, though, my liking you not
- 13:41at the moment. What I meant was Wenceslaus wasn't killed by accident. He
- 13:46was off by himself when he was shot. He was murdered. That's strange.
- 13:52Monkey murdered, very strange. What could he have known that Andy had
- 13:58to die? Simon? You just lovely? He maybe promised to take you
- 14:13to Max. Not see the taxing going after Max? Oh? Perhaps not.
- 14:18But I like Wenceslaus, I even like Prebele. Still, it's no
- 14:22real concern of yours. Preble was killed shortly after I'd met him. Wenceslaus
- 14:28was murdered in my apartments. Thanks at all sort of personal Besides, I
- 14:33don't admire killers. How about me? You killed anyone? Oh uh uh?
- 14:37In that case, I could very easily well believe you, and if
- 14:41he did, then I could very easily was Yeah, hum, warm night,
- 14:46isn't it? No cold paper, says breeze the warm knight? Your
- 14:50mind? No? Uh, but uh, what will the cab driver think?
- 14:56What do you think he'll think? You'll think what I think he'll think?
- 15:01Uh, we've arrived. It's not likely to go down in history as
- 15:03a deathless statement. But helloa, alright, I'll pay the driver. There's
- 15:11a little something for your income tax return. Oh, aks question, Let's
- 15:16go. Max will be here. Yeah, we wait for him. You
- 15:20see, this isn't Max's house, Oh belongs to his boss. Well,
- 15:24it's nice to know Max isn't among the unemployed. Simon, I always am.
- 15:31I meant, well, remember what happened to the monkey? Nobody could
- 15:33confuse me with a monkey? I I shaved good evening, mister hake Lola,
- 15:41May we come in? Of course, I'm into the parlor. Naturally,
- 15:48that's where the villain always leads the fair heroine and handsome hero Uh,
- 15:54Lola, I require an introduction, mister haik. This is Simon Templar Simon,
- 15:58mister, how do you do? Delighted the potter? Make yourselves comfortable?
- 16:07I'm doing my best to sound like a spider. Shall I try to
- 16:11look like a fly? It wouldn't work. Rather an odd combination. Lola
- 16:15and the Saints, both for the same you mustn't take the name literally,
- 16:18And for Lola Heke, I tried to get the monkeys and Roland Dames's autographed
- 16:23at the same time. No, Simon, I'm deeply fascinated. But you
- 16:29must know all about that. Oh well, Max must have told you.
- 16:33We'll bypass that for the moment. Max must have told you he killed a
- 16:37monkey. He told me nothing of the sort. Well, the monkey's dead,
- 16:41so Max, Yeah, mistake, Max. I have just been informed
- 16:49that you assassinated whence this allows killed him? Who said so? That?
- 16:55For the moment is irrelevant? Did you or did you not kill the monkey?
- 16:57Will you think I'm not so or something? At chimps the only one
- 17:00who knows where the stone. Shut up, eh, you blithering idiot.
- 17:03I should send you back to driving a truck. In the name of the
- 17:07American truck Driver. I resent that I beg your body. The American truck
- 17:11driver is courteous, considered it, and always helpful to the motorists in time
- 17:14of trouble would Max Bey, don't pay no attention to him, mister Hank,
- 17:18I did knock off that chip lower, of course he did. Simon
- 17:22and I were both there when he did it. The room was dark at
- 17:23the time, Loler. Max may have shot the monkey by mistake, or
- 17:29he may not have shot the monkey at all. Then who did There were
- 17:32only three people in the room, you, Max and myself. But you
- 17:36wouldn't have shot the monkey, Simon except by accident. That's out. I
- 17:38didn't fire a gun at all, No me neither. When the lights went
- 17:41out, I went away fast. This is beginning to look like like a
- 17:45job on me. On the other hand, Lola, you did go after
- 17:48the monkey alone. You tried to get him from mister Templar alone. Is
- 17:52it possible you wanted the monkey dead because he'd already shown you? Mister Templar,
- 18:00you're not one of us. Well, I haven't been black bald yet.
- 18:03You may consider yourself black bald and leave. I don't think so,
- 18:06Max. No, Max, I still have the gun, the one I
- 18:08didn't fire back at my apartment. Remember, mister hack, exactly what is
- 18:12your interest? Temper? The stones? What the ones? Max mentioned a
- 18:17few minutes ago. I might want to play on your team. Need you
- 18:22be so wholesome about it? There were three people involved, you, Lola,
- 18:26Max. Obviously, either Lola or Max have disqualified themselves. I'll take
- 18:30his or her share. But my dear fellow, if Lola has anticipated this,
- 18:34there'll be nothing to share. But if she hasn't, there's still no
- 18:37reason to include you. Because you see, the monkey is dead. Preble
- 18:41also is dead. A remark of the utmost irrelevance mat precisely. You see,
- 18:47Preble had to die because he was an honest man. Preble was an
- 18:49idiot. Max. How did you know Preble was dead? I hold it
- 18:55on all radio, and you, mister Hag the same source. What did
- 18:57the bulletins say? Nothing beyond the fact that people were shot tot dead.
- 19:03I see, Let's go back a bit. You must have hired the monkey
- 19:07from Preble, but of course you'd have told him it was for a joke.
- 19:11People believed you at first, but when he stopped believing you, when
- 19:15he realized what you'd used the monkey for, you had to kill him when
- 19:18he realized what mister templar Max has mentioned stones in English jewels. Obviously,
- 19:25all three of your thieves jewel thieves then, but obsessed with a monkey?
- 19:29Why we're fond of monkeys. That's a pretty sentiment, but untrue. You
- 19:33must have used the monkey to get a jewels that were inaccessible to any human
- 19:37being, but something went wrong? What went wrong, mister Templer? The
- 19:42monkey got the jewels, but he must have evaded you and disposed of them
- 19:47someplace. But where That's your problem, isn't it what the monkey did with
- 19:52the jewels? But the monkey is dead now. He'll never show you,
- 19:56mister hack. He's too smart, Perhaps you'll suggest, Lola, is I
- 20:00think we ought to get rid of him? Oh, Lola, you've wounded
- 20:03me to that quick, aren't you? Forgetting? My dear that he has
- 20:04a gun, which he's pointing at us. That's my gun. It's not
- 20:07loaded. You could be lying, Lola. I don't want to find out
- 20:11the hard way, all right, Simon? Shoot me? Oh no,
- 20:14thanks, I never shoot beautiful women. An interesting dilemma, Come ahead,
- 20:18mister Templar be a sport. Shoot, Lola, have a better idea.
- 20:22Let's find the jewel. I will borrow a monkey from a pet chop.
- 20:27We'll put that monkey in the same circumstances when sus Laus within, and maybe
- 20:32he'll do the same thing an idea. Yes, I don't trust him,
- 20:34you don't. Then that perhaps is a very good reason for accepting his suggestion,
- 20:40mister Templar, And shall we go borrow a monkey? Yeah, but
- 20:56when sus Laust was prettier, this one looks more. I don't imagine that
- 21:00matters, does it, Lola? I don't care. What do you think?
- 21:03Max? To me? A monkey's a monkeys, Max the realist?
- 21:07Well, shall we try Lola's place first? A splendid idea might save us
- 21:14a good deal of time, mister Ake, don't you think I think nothing?
- 21:17I know a few things. One, we use the monkey to break
- 21:19into a to pick up a few jewels for us. He did so and
- 21:23then disappeared for a while. He could have been at your place, Loder,
- 21:26or at Max's, where we finally located the monkey. The jewels were
- 21:30gone, and perhaps our little substitute will find them, which would be very
- 21:34nice for the survivors. Well, he's been all over my apartment, made
- 21:47a mess of it and found nothing, Nor did we at Temple. I'm
- 21:51afraid that Lola's innocent. Then suppose we try Max's happy little home next.
- 22:06Hey, that monkey just knocked over my least but a real lemon juice lemonses
- 22:10you found of vitamins? Max, No, I keep it in memoriam of
- 22:14a girl I used to know who raised lemons only on me. All she
- 22:18ever raised was lumps. There was not a corner nor cranny at this place
- 22:22that hasn't been investigated. A templary, I know. But we're not at
- 22:26the end of our said yet. So where do we go next? Mister
- 22:29Hack mentioned your place and Max is lola he forgot to mention his own house
- 22:34or did he forget that? And I hope no one is bitterly disappointed?
- 22:48Is that no jewels in my home? Either? Quite right? No jewels?
- 22:52That means none of us took them. It also means not unless Wincess
- 22:57lows toins into a ghostly toins to haught this. We don't ever find no
- 23:02stone at which I'm happy part. I suggest we call it today night,
- 23:04rather, may I ask for your absence, olider. Hey, wait a
- 23:08minute, and I still want to know where them stones are. I put
- 23:11a lot of hard waken on that jock. He's still you idiots. He's
- 23:14right mister Hake. Of course he's right. You're right, I'm right.
- 23:18It's the blasted monkey's wrong. We mustn't speak ill of the dead. The
- 23:22blasted monkey is dead, so, by the way, it's people. Incidentally,
- 23:26why was he killed merely because he suspected his monkey had been used illegally?
- 23:32That doesn't convince, But that was what you yourself said. I was
- 23:34making conversation at the time. I needed an opportunity to check searching all three
- 23:40houses for the jewels. Now that's over, it checks. Will you get
- 23:45in that the reason the monkey had to be killed? You are nets Max,
- 23:51You're actually showing signs of intelligence. Temply we wanted that monkey alive.
- 23:56Sure, the monkey was the only one who knew where the jewels were.
- 24:00But you see that proves whoever killed Preeble and the monkey had already found the
- 24:03jewels. Keep talking, Preble was killed, but his killer made no attempt
- 24:07to grab the monkey. Strange, No, because it proves the killer had
- 24:11no use for the monkey. He already had the jewels or she that is.
- 24:15And pardon here for pointing one of you already has the jewels and is
- 24:21trying to keep them all. I wouldn't like anybody trying that. Why are
- 24:26you looking at me? Simon me still both of you, mister Templar,
- 24:30you interest me not at all, strangely, pray continue, I'd rather continue
- 24:33with his gun in my hand. Now then, Lola, how did you
- 24:38find your way to my apartment? Earlier this evening, I've been following Preble.
- 24:44He was shot. I saw you leave with the monkey, so I
- 24:45followed you. Jew Max, I was following. Huh can either of you
- 24:49alibi the other? I didn't even know he was following me. Hey,
- 24:52he Now that you bring it up, she ditched me for a while,
- 24:56Let's skip to my apartment. Who shot them? Monkey? Lola? That
- 25:00I like? I don't because she had no gun. I had her gun,
- 25:04remember, well was the final shots Holst Max. I'm beginning to wonder
- 25:08about it. I got my lift, you got Lola's. It ain't loaded,
- 25:12don't bet on it. Lola is quite a liar, Max. It's
- 25:18just a flesh wound. Max, I've been practicing. I'll take your gun,
- 25:23well two gun temper on your way out, Templar, take the big
- 25:26off with you and throw him to the police with you. I prefer they
- 25:30didn't have to come here to pick him up, considering my profession. Yes,
- 25:36not to mention considering your guilt. I beg your pardon, mister Hay.
- 25:41How did you know Preble and his monkey had gone to visit a movie
- 25:45star, specifically Roland Dane. Well I didn't, I mean you mean you
- 25:48did? Remember you asked Lola if she had gotten Roland name's autograph. How
- 25:53did you know that the monkey was at the Ames Place? Well? I
- 25:56I heard it over the radio. But according to your own statement, all
- 26:00the radio bulletin said was that Preble had been shot to death. HM.
- 26:03No reply, Huh you knew because you wanted to silence Preval and you did.
- 26:11You didn't bother about the monkey because you already had the jewels, But
- 26:14when you saw me leave with Wence's lance, she began to worry. The
- 26:17police hands the monkey would have been safe for you, but in mind with
- 26:22Lowland Max both after me, that monkey represented danger to you. Then you
- 26:26came after it shot the monkey, and mister Hake, I hate the point
- 26:30that you have a date with a death cell and that Raleigh is the story
- 26:45of how I foiled mister hack, Julie and murderer. I'm insulted. I
- 26:51was never even a suspect, Simon. What happened to Max in jail too?
- 26:56An old burglary charged at a new lease on life when the police saw
- 27:00him sad and the girl Lola? Uh rolly, you know something? Why?
- 27:07Lola is also a small blonde with big eyes like Marie. But Simon,
- 27:12she's a cross. Oh not really. Her heart's in the right place,
- 27:15left side. I mean she was just young and foolish. We've all
- 27:21made our mistakes, right, especially with small blonde. Hello, Yeah,
- 27:26he's here, Simon Viel, Thanks hello Lola? Why? Yes, of
- 27:30course? Ten minutes right? Good bye, Simon, you're going out with
- 27:37it. She the type of girl who would be persona grata the YWCA.
- 27:44H. I won't take her to the y w c A. Is she
- 27:47the type of girl your mother would have loved? My mother? Isn't taking
- 27:49her out? Raleigh? I h Simon, you're treading on a very dangerous
- 27:55path. I refer to the one surrounded by primroses. Marie. Yeah,
- 28:03I don't say another word. I'll call her back and ask if she's got
- 28:10a friend for you. M you've been listening to another transcribed adventure of the
- 28:26saint the robin hood of modern crime. I'll hear us our star vincent Price
- 28:32ladies and gentlemen. As responsible parents, you never think of allowing your children
- 28:37to play with poison, and as responsible Americans, it's your duty to protect
- 28:41them from the dangers of the poison we call prejudice. Be in America,
- 28:45racial and religious hatred does exist, sustained by the political adventurers in plain crack
- 28:52parts who are willing to scrap the democratic way of life to attain their own
- 28:56ends. Prejudice in America is centered in their adult fore life. But unless
- 29:00we guard ourselves and our families, it can find its way into our own
- 29:04lives. Then the poison would do its work undermining America's unity, sabotaging our
- 29:11prestige abroad, and wrecking our ideal of individual freedom. In your family life,
- 29:15you can effectively carry on a campaign against prejudice. Our youngsters grow up
- 29:21with a pride in their country. Teach them that part of that pride is
- 29:25our tradition of accepting or rejecting people on their individual work, not on the
- 29:30basis of race, or religion or color. Remember, freedom and prejudice cannot
- 29:36exist side by side. If you choose freedom fight prejudice. This is Vincent
- 29:41Price inviting you to join us again next week at the same time for another
- 29:45exciting adventure of the Saint. Good Night. This Adventure of the Saint was
- 30:11written by Lewis Viddies. In our cast you Heard Maggie Morley as Lola and
- 30:15George Nie as Roland names Max was played by Sheldon Leonard and The Hate by
- 30:21Theodore von Ellis, Jack Miles with People, Jerry Hausner the Monkey. The
- 30:26Saint, based on characters created by Leslie charteris as a James L. Sofia
- 30:29production and is directed by Helen Lank. Vincent Price is soon to be seen
- 30:33co starring in RKO's production of His Kind of Woman. All You Saints fans

- 30:53Clifton Webb, Charles Boy, Eddy Arnold, Meredith Wilson, and a host
- 30:57of others. Another Sunday Evening favorite, Theear Guild on the Air presents the
- 31:03dramatic story Lati Dundas, starring Dorothy McGuire and Jessica Tende. So remember enjoying
- 31:11the Big Show with Jimmy Dardy and Emog and Cocha. Later today on NBC
- 31:25Welcome Back. Well, a few nice twists on the typical detective agrees to
- 31:30watch an animal story. Of course, you have Simon taking the animal with
- 31:33very little grumbling, and then you have the sad twist of the monkey getting
- 31:38killed. But we have to remember, as we would say in films today,
- 31:42no monkeys were harmed in the recording of this radio broadcast. And you
- 31:48have to admire the Saint keeping close track on his suspects by holding them at
- 31:55gunpoint and acting perhaps interested on in splitting with them on their illegal scheme.
- 32:02And this is probably something that only the Saint could get away with. All
- 32:07right, well, enough of my commentary. I'll stop monking around, and
- 32:10apologies for the punt in advance, and we get to some listener comments and
- 32:15feedback, and this one regarding the Saint or Vincent Price. Sharon says Sint
- 32:25Price was a wonderful swab smooth villain. Well thanks for the comment, Sharon.
- 32:32I definitely know the reputation, and I think that I didn't experience it
- 32:44much growing up. I've seen him as a villain in the back and also
- 32:49an episode of Climax. He was just frightening as the villain. Not really
- 32:54a lot swave about him. My big villain is remembrance of Vincent growing up,
- 33:00was as Egghead on the nineteen sixties Batman show. Egghead was one of
- 33:07my favorites, and so I definitely had an appreciation of Vincent Price for that
- 33:12particular role. But that is I think one thing that makes the saint interesting.
- 33:16This program was really before Vincent Price really became synonymous with the horror genre
- 33:24and villainy and his career was viewed as more open as to what direction it
- 33:30would take, and so you get to hear him playing this really suave euro
- 33:36And there are a few other interesting roles. I saw him in an episode
- 33:43of Crossroads, which is a public now a public domain nineteen fifties show where
- 33:50he played a Anglican minister, and that one is actually available at archive dot
- 33:55org for those who want to see Vincent Price and something very very different from
- 34:00both the saint and from his typical roles. And here we have an email
- 34:06from Taffy or sent a message to my Facebook. Anyway, in the early
- 34:13seventies, late at night, we'd pass our bedtime. Colorado State University use
- 34:22to play old time radio shows. Five of my siblings and I would crawl
- 34:27under some covers and play the radio. It was mostly Western stoves, but
- 34:31that ignited my love for old time radio shows. So delighted to find the
- 34:37great detectives of old time radios a few years ago. Love being introduced to
- 34:43new shows and interesting characters. Thank you Adam for sharing your passion. Well,
- 34:49thanks so much for the comment Taffy and radio is definitely something that's better
- 34:55to do for bed than paying attention to a screen from recent studies I've seen,
- 35:02and ideally it's something I should someday add to a list to get away
- 35:07from screens, a little bit further away from bedtime and take advantage of having
- 35:13all these radio dramas. But thanks so much for the comment. That will
- 35:16do it for today. We will be back tomorrow with Man from Homicide.
- 35:22In the meantime, send your comments to Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net,
