Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:31Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:34Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you for one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other the backyard to dig
- 0:41Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this episode, we're talking about Leonard Skinner,
- 0:45Speaker 1: Judas Priest, Chris Rock and of course your voicemails, text,
- 0:48Speaker 1: dms and more and as always, a whole lot of rosie.
- 0:52Speaker 2: All right, Discos, let's get into it.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Happy, Happy, Joy Joy, and I hope Neil Young will
- 1:09Speaker 1: remember that it's Leonard Skinnered week here in Disgraceland Discos.
- 1:13Speaker 3: What a week this is.
- 1:15Speaker 1: The Leonard Skinnered episode was the last new full episode
- 1:18Speaker 1: released in your Disgraceland feed, and so you know, this
- 1:21Speaker 1: was one of the most requested episode subjects we've received
- 1:24Speaker 1: from you guys over the years. I hope we didn't disappoint.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I hope you guys dug it the thing with this
- 1:29Speaker 1: story is that it was one of those where it
- 1:32Speaker 1: really could have been a two parter easily, or perhaps
- 1:34Speaker 1: even a full season. There's that much going on with
- 1:38Speaker 1: Leonard skinnered and just the crash alone. I mean, there's
- 1:42Speaker 1: so much to dive into. I've run into this problem
- 1:45Speaker 1: numerous times over the years at this show, and it's
- 1:47Speaker 1: an awesome problem to have. When a subject that we
- 1:50Speaker 1: cover has so many batshit crazy incidents in their careers
- 1:53Speaker 1: and so many crimes, so many transgressions, it's hard to
- 1:58Speaker 1: know you know when to pull the lever or when
- 2:00Speaker 1: to pull the roof cord. When do you just go, oh, man,
- 2:02Speaker 1: I can't do this in thirty minutes. I need two episodes,
- 2:06Speaker 1: or perhaps this is better suited for a different series altogether.
- 2:13Speaker 1: A weird thing to try and calibrate. In the beginning
- 2:15Speaker 1: of the show, I was hell bent on repetition, on
- 2:19Speaker 1: producing the same exact type of content every time so
- 2:23Speaker 1: that I could develop an audience. And one of the
- 2:25Speaker 1: tenets they say of developing an audience is establishing a reliable,
- 2:29Speaker 1: repeatable type of content. So we did that with season
- 2:32Speaker 1: one of Disgraceland, and then I started writing season two
- 2:36Speaker 1: and the John Lennon episode was supposed to kick off
- 2:38Speaker 1: season two, the story of his assassination, and when I
- 2:42Speaker 1: poked my head up after writing that episode, I had
- 2:45Speaker 1: what was essentially a ten thousand word episode, which is
- 2:48Speaker 1: twice as many words as what was needed.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So I decided I'd try.
- 2:53Speaker 1: To lightly edit it into my existing one episode structure
- 2:57Speaker 1: and presented as two episodes, which is what I did
- 3:01Speaker 1: the John Lennon story. The first John Lennon content that
- 3:05Speaker 1: we released was a two episode, a two parter, our
- 3:08Speaker 1: first two parter, and I would say that it worked,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and frankly, it's kind of kept on working as I've experimented.
- 3:16Speaker 2: We've done now four.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Episodes on John Lennon, and I bet if I wanted to,
- 3:20Speaker 1: I could just produce an entire ongoing podcast on that
- 3:22Speaker 1: one artist. So with SKINNERD we found ourselves in this
- 3:27Speaker 1: situation where we'd already aligned our production for the one
- 3:30Speaker 1: episode to produce one episode, and we didn't want to
- 3:32Speaker 1: be two disruptive to everyone who works on the show nowadays,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and we didn't want to totally blow up their schedule,
- 3:38Speaker 1: so we just went forward with the one episode, even
- 3:39Speaker 1: though in the back of my mind I was like
- 3:42Speaker 1: this could be more than one, but I'm committed to
- 3:45Speaker 1: finding ways to do more long form storytelling and Disgraceland,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and We're currently working on.
- 3:49Speaker 3: A ten episode series.
- 3:51Speaker 1: On one group, a group that I've never covered before
- 3:54Speaker 1: and that has the type of insanely dramatic and crime
- 3:58Speaker 1: soaked past that canst staying ten episodes. I'm super excited
- 4:03Speaker 1: for this. This is coming later next year. I'm excited
- 4:05Speaker 1: to stretch the format and see how you guys react
- 4:07Speaker 1: to it, and hopefully occasionally do more of this long
- 4:11Speaker 1: form Disgraceland storytelling, not at the expense of the current
- 4:15Speaker 1: short form storytelling that we're doing something similar to the
- 4:18Speaker 1: twenty seven Club podcast that I host, but I guess
- 4:20Speaker 1: more disgrace landy, which is to say, wilder, more dramatic.
- 4:24Speaker 2: And more intense.
- 4:26Speaker 1: But before we can do that, we still have this issue, guys,
- 4:30Speaker 1: of getting our full Disgraceland archive out from its previously
- 4:33Speaker 1: exclusive state and into our feed And over the past
- 4:36Speaker 1: two months, in February and previously in January, we dumped
- 4:40Speaker 1: into your feeds two full seasons per month. Two seasons
- 4:44Speaker 1: in January were released, and then another two seasons in February.
- 4:48Speaker 1: We were released, and we're going to do the same
- 4:50Speaker 1: thing this month. We're going to release two more full seasons,
- 4:53Speaker 1: but instead of just dumping them all in one batch
- 4:56Speaker 1: like we've been doing, we're gonna experiment with release seeing
- 5:00Speaker 1: two to three episodes per weekday.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So let's look at what you got this week.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You got the episode on Lyonard skinnerd on Tuesday, new
- 5:10Speaker 1: Disgraceland episode on Wednesday. You got two episodes that were
- 5:14Speaker 1: previously exclusive, the Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love episodes parts
- 5:18Speaker 1: one and two. You're getting the after Party episode as scheduled.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Also this week, you're getting Snoop Dogg and I Turner
- 5:24Speaker 1: from season three. Next week we're gonna do the same thing.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Tuesday and Thursday, full episode of Disgraceland, bonus episode of Disgraceland.
- 5:33Speaker 1: On those other weekdays, you're gonna be getting previously exclusive
- 5:37Speaker 1: episodes from season three. All right, That's how it's gonna
- 5:41Speaker 1: roll all throughout March until we get season three and
- 5:44Speaker 1: season four fully released alongside the current season eleven season WHOA,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I hope I'm not boring you guys enough housekeeping boring myself.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. All Right, you got some listening to do,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and I've got some other stories to tell you about,
- 5:57Speaker 1: mainly the story or one story I should say about
- 6:00Speaker 1: Judas Priest rock A Rolla. You know what I'm talking about.
- 6:03Speaker 1: You know this story, the story about Judas Priest being
- 6:05Speaker 1: accused of murder or I guess more specifically, of inspiring
- 6:09Speaker 1: a Satanic inspired double suicide attempt. This story, when I
- 6:14Speaker 1: was a kid, scared the hell out of me. I
- 6:16Speaker 1: want to tell you, I want this is like early eighties,
- 6:18Speaker 1: all right, this is the whole Satanic Panic era, and
- 6:22Speaker 1: this is my experience, my personal experience with Satanic panic.
- 6:26Speaker 1: This is a real thing that happened to me, and
- 6:28Speaker 1: I swear to God, hand on heart, I am not
- 6:32Speaker 1: exaggerating this. When we moved into our new house when
- 6:37Speaker 1: I was or I should say apartment, when I was
- 6:41Speaker 1: either five or six years old.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I think I was five.
- 6:44Speaker 1: I was in Lancaster, Massachusetts. I remember I was in
- 6:48Speaker 1: my front yard. It was like the day we moved
- 6:50Speaker 1: in or the day after. That's how my memory serves me.
- 6:53Speaker 1: And across the street from us, Directly across the street
- 6:56Speaker 1: from my house was a Seventh Day Adventist church, and
- 7:00Speaker 1: in there's like this like yard in front of the
- 7:04Speaker 1: church with a big oak tree, and I'm sitting across
- 7:07Speaker 1: from that church on my front stoop looking at this church,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and this blue camaro pulls up blasting what I can
- 7:17Speaker 1: only assume was heavy metal. Out of the camaro, get
- 7:21Speaker 1: a bunch of scary high school aged long hairs. I
- 7:26Speaker 1: swear this happened. They nailed a cross into the tree.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I don't remember if it was an upside down cross
- 7:34Speaker 1: or not, but it was a cross. They nailed it
- 7:35Speaker 1: into the tree, and they just stood around, cracking beers,
- 7:39Speaker 1: listening to Ozzy Osbourne and hanging out in.
- 7:43Speaker 2: The front of this church.
- 7:45Speaker 3: And I knew what was I knew it was scary
- 7:46Speaker 3: as hell.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I knew what heavy metal was, even though I was
- 7:48Speaker 1: five years old, and this was like petrifying. Turns out,
- 7:51Speaker 1: I went on to become friends with one of these
- 7:52Speaker 1: kids much later, this guy Bruce.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Everyone from Clinton knows Bruce.
- 7:57Speaker 1: That was like my first This is during the Satanic
- 8:00Speaker 1: Panic era. I didn't know what Satanic Panic was, of course,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but this is my first intro to heavy metal, and
- 8:06Speaker 1: it's scared the ever living the Jesus out of me.
- 8:09Speaker 1: All Right, So this is Judas priest story that I'm
- 8:11Speaker 1: talking about, this one that we just released on our
- 8:14Speaker 1: YouTube channel. This is from that era. It's right around
- 8:17Speaker 1: the same time. Okay, we've just released a version of
- 8:20Speaker 1: the story on our YouTube channel and all of the
- 8:22Speaker 1: satanic panic induced hysteria and political and mainstream media stupidity
- 8:26Speaker 1: that accompanied this tale. This, of course, is the tale
- 8:29Speaker 1: of these two kids who were listening to priests and
- 8:32Speaker 1: they decided they were going to kill themselves. Shoot themselves.
- 8:34Speaker 1: One lives and their parents sue the band nuts story.
- 8:38Speaker 1: This is our best YouTube story yet. I'm stoked on it.
- 8:41Speaker 1: It's about twenty minutes long and it can be seen

- 10:05Speaker 1: touch with me. Call me on the line, call me
- 10:07Speaker 1: any place, anytime. Call me I am here, send me
- 10:10Speaker 1: a text, leave me a voicemail like Eric here.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Hi Jack, this is Eric's coming calling in from Maine.
- 10:19Speaker 5: I gotta tell you I had a really funny, awesome
- 10:22Speaker 5: thing happened. I went into the grocery store and I
- 10:25Speaker 5: found out that Orno Brewing Company was doing a joint
- 10:30Speaker 5: crossover collaboration with you to do a Gluten produced.
- 10:34Speaker 6: Logger called rock a ROLLA.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Absolutely love it. Such a fan obviously.
- 10:39Speaker 6: Added by it because I'm a fan of the podcast,
- 10:42Speaker 6: really love what you're doing, really love the way that
- 10:43Speaker 6: your storytelling and doing everything along those lines. I wanted
- 10:47Speaker 6: to ask if any previous seasons or if in the
- 10:51Speaker 6: future you plan to do any kind of storytelling about
- 10:55Speaker 6: two artists in particular.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Marilyn Manson and may both of which are very divisive,
- 11:03Speaker 4: both of which are very kind of dark figures in
- 11:06Speaker 4: terms of maybe music as well as some questionable things
- 11:10Speaker 4: that they've done in their kind of careers, Mayhem with
- 11:13Speaker 4: their whole live album situation.
- 11:17Speaker 5: And Marilyn Manson being kind of like the controversial figure that.
- 11:19Speaker 4: He always has been.
- 11:21Speaker 6: But yeah, we'd love to hear you tell those stories
- 11:24Speaker 6: if you haven't already. And love the podcast, keep doing
- 11:27Speaker 6: what you're.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Doing, Eric, Eric from Maine, thank you for the message,
- 11:31Speaker 1: and thanks for buying our rock and rolla beer up
- 11:33Speaker 1: there and main producing partnership with the Mighty Orino Brewing.
- 11:36Speaker 1: For those of you who are like, what the hell
- 11:38Speaker 1: am I talking about? We made a beer. It's that simple.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It's called RockA Rolla.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It's the official Disgrace slam beer because well it's gluten
- 11:45Speaker 1: free because I don't dig the wheat.
- 11:47Speaker 2: And you know, we had.
- 11:47Speaker 1: An opportunity to do something cool like this because of
- 11:49Speaker 1: the fine folks at Orno, and this tastes really good.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I highly recommend you get yourself some rock Rolla. Hit
- 11:56Speaker 1: up Orno Brewing to get your hands on some Eric.
- 11:59Speaker 1: As for your question on the Marilyn Manson thing, yes,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I am very interested in telling this story, but it
- 12:06Speaker 1: seems like this story is still being told. There's still
- 12:11Speaker 1: it's still developing, and with some more time, we'll have
- 12:14Speaker 1: more details. I've got a pin in this one, but
- 12:17Speaker 1: it's gonna be a little bit longer before I get
- 12:19Speaker 1: into it. And maybe this ends up being one of
- 12:21Speaker 1: those longer form stories that I reference.
- 12:23Speaker 2: At the top of the episode.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And as for Mayhem, well, I got your cover, brother.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I told this story back in season one. It's in
- 12:28Speaker 1: your feed now make sure you've downloaded it. I think
- 12:31Speaker 1: it's titled Norwegian black Metal, not Mayhem because we deal
- 12:34Speaker 1: with the entire scene, but it's basically a Mayhem episode.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Check it out now, let me know what you think Eric.
- 12:39Speaker 1: All right, let's check out this voicemail from the three
- 12:41Speaker 1: to one seven.
- 12:43Speaker 7: Hey, Jake Goods Clinton from the three one seven love
- 12:47Speaker 7: the show. Can't wait to hear the Leonard Skinnard and
- 12:51Speaker 7: the Otis writing episode. I love Otis Redding. Well, my
- 12:56Speaker 7: question is who's next on the twenty seventh Club podcast.
- 13:01Speaker 7: I'm really interested to hear who's going to be next.
- 13:07Speaker 7: And if you don't want to say anything, if you
- 13:09Speaker 7: want to make it.
- 13:10Speaker 8: Classified that you have to come kill me whatever, But anyway, yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 8: I'm interested to know who's next on the twenty seven Club.
- 13:22Speaker 7: Thanks man, keep up and good to work.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Bye.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yes, skinnerd Clinton in your feed now, I hope you
- 13:30Speaker 1: dig it. And yeah, Otis is coming next week. As
- 13:33Speaker 1: for the twenty seven Club, we have what I think
- 13:35Speaker 1: is the next season produced and ready to go. But
- 13:38Speaker 1: I'm focused now, as you can see, on getting the
- 13:40Speaker 1: Disgracelane content all out into the open, and then we're
- 13:42Speaker 1: going to figure out twenty seven Club and bad Lands too.
- 13:44Speaker 1: They've got more bad Lands content coming as well. We're
- 13:46Speaker 1: not pulling back on that. But Clinton, I know the
- 13:49Speaker 1: way sucks and I apologize growing pains. We are a
- 13:52Speaker 1: small group of folks over here trying to figure it out,
- 13:55Speaker 1: trying to figure out how to juggle and distribute all
- 13:57Speaker 1: this content that we're making, and how to not overwhelm you,
- 14:00Speaker 1: guys are. One thing that'll make you happy is that
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'm considering how I might be able to make a
- 14:04Speaker 1: deeper investment into the twenty seven Club and create something
- 14:07Speaker 1: that goes as frequently as Disgraceland.
- 14:10Speaker 2: But I'm not there yet. I'm close, but I'm not
- 14:13Speaker 2: there yet. Anyway, not the.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Answer that you were looking for, I'm sure, but we'll
- 14:17Speaker 1: have new stuff for you in the twenty seven Club
- 14:19Speaker 1: feed soon, all right, six one seven nine zero six
- 14:23Speaker 1: six six three eight. If you'd like to send me
- 14:26Speaker 1: a voicemail, you can let me know what you're up to,
- 14:28Speaker 1: what you're listening to, what you want to listen to,
- 14:30Speaker 1: or you can let me know anything at all and
- 14:32Speaker 1: we might play your message in this episode. Or you
- 14:33Speaker 1: can text me at six one seven nine oh six
- 14:35Speaker 1: six six three eight and we can get into your
- 14:37Speaker 1: questions here in that format too, Like this text from
- 14:41Speaker 1: Gerald Gerald from Memphis says, Hi, Jake Gerald from Memphis,
- 14:45Speaker 1: love the Disgraceland podcast. I fell off when you switch
- 14:49Speaker 1: to Amazon, and now I'm catching up. I heard episode
- 14:52Speaker 1: one of the Grateful Dead episodes, but missed the second
- 14:55Speaker 1: at the time, and would love to see those ones
- 14:57Speaker 1: re released if possible. Keep up the good word, love
- 15:00Speaker 1: the stories, dude. Well Gerald, thanks for coming back, man.
- 15:03Speaker 2: We missed you. Happy to have you here in Disgraceland.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I believe yeah, Grateful Dead is part of season three
- 15:14Speaker 1: or perhaps season four, the first Grateful Dead episode, so
- 15:18Speaker 1: that's coming. That's coming this month in March. One way
- 15:20Speaker 1: or another, you get in that first one. As for
- 15:22Speaker 1: the pig Pen episode, which is later, and I believe
- 15:26Speaker 1: season six that's going to be a bit but it's coming, man,
- 15:30Speaker 1: so stay subscribed. We appreciate you coming back. All right,
- 15:34Speaker 1: let's do a text from the four to oh one.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Hello Jake, my name is Alexandra. I've been listening since
- 15:39Speaker 1: season one. Another season one listener. I love this and
- 15:42Speaker 1: want you to know. Here she goes again, and I
- 15:43Speaker 1: want you to know that Disgraceland is by far the
- 15:45Speaker 1: coolest podcast I listened to. Why Thank you, Alexandra. Alexander
- 15:49Speaker 1: then goes on to say I am a letter carrier
- 15:51Speaker 1: for the USPS and have got you in my earbuds
- 15:54Speaker 1: daily while walking my route. I second the recommendation of
- 15:58Speaker 1: doing an episode on Nick Cave.
- 16:00Speaker 3: The Bad Seeds.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Truly an amazing story, and the man is a phenomenal
- 16:04Speaker 1: artist musician. Any who, Thanks for all you do and
- 16:07Speaker 1: keep the great content coming. Rock a rolla, Alexandra, all right,
- 16:11Speaker 1: I hear you. I'm feeling a consensus swelling around Nick
- 16:14Speaker 1: Cave and The Bad Seeds, So yeah, I'm gonna have
- 16:17Speaker 1: to find time to get into that. I'm excited, excited
- 16:20Speaker 1: to learn more. Nick Cave is obviously a very compelling character,
- 16:25Speaker 1: an amazing artist, and I appreciate the text. All right,
- 16:29Speaker 1: let's do a couple more here. Let's see here from
- 16:33Speaker 1: the seven to one five.
- 16:34Speaker 2: This one's quick.
- 16:35Speaker 1: What music do you turn to when you feel miserable? Well,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I don't. I don't turn to music. I find that
- 16:45Speaker 1: music doesn't do it for me when I feel miserable.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I have to do other things these days when I
- 16:49Speaker 1: feel miserable. Mainly, I need to work out. I need
- 16:51Speaker 1: to exercise. I need to get my endorphins popping. I
- 16:56Speaker 1: need to recalibrate and sweat and punish myself physically. Music
- 17:05Speaker 1: I don't know that it's the great salve for when
- 17:08Speaker 1: you feel bad, unless you're putting on like some case
- 17:10Speaker 1: in the Sunshine band or I don't know, man, it's
- 17:13Speaker 1: just the older I get, the more I need to
- 17:15Speaker 1: turn to other means to cheer myself up. So seven
- 17:19Speaker 1: one five, I'm sorry you're feeling miserable if you are,
- 17:23Speaker 1: but I would suggest you know, if you're not the
- 17:26Speaker 1: working out type, maybe just get outside, go for a walk,
- 17:29Speaker 1: clear your head, don't put anything in your ears, you know,
- 17:34Speaker 1: just kind of I do that sometimes too, since I
- 17:35Speaker 1: just go for a walk, I just need to cleanse.
- 17:38Speaker 1: No phone, no earbuds, no nothing, just me and the
- 17:42Speaker 1: vitamin D.
- 17:43Speaker 2: It works. All right, Let's do another couple of texts here,
- 17:46Speaker 2: what do we got?
- 17:48Speaker 3: All right?
- 17:48Speaker 1: From the four to four, Oh Jake, thanks for releasing
- 17:51Speaker 1: all of your episodes. Just finish the Tiller Russell bonus episode.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I'm a documentary junkie and the seven to five is
- 17:58Speaker 1: one of my favorites. Keep up the amazing work, brother,
- 18:00Speaker 1: rock and rolla Matt from the four to four to
- 18:02Speaker 1: zero and now in the four to eight, Oh all right, Matt.
- 18:05Speaker 1: For those of you who don't know what Matt's talking
- 18:06Speaker 1: about Matt's talking about bonus episode. We did a couple
- 18:09Speaker 1: after parties ago where I interviewed my friend Tiller Russell,
- 18:12Speaker 1: who is a great documentary filmmaker. He made The night Stalker,
- 18:16Speaker 1: which was relevant to our conversation because we had just
- 18:19Speaker 1: released the ACDC episode. He is a new documentary on
- 18:23Speaker 1: Waco coming out. I believe it's called Waco American Apocalypse
- 18:27Speaker 1: that comes out in March, March twenty second, if memory
- 18:30Speaker 1: serves me. But to Matt's point, one of the best
- 18:33Speaker 1: documentaries ever made is by Tiler Russell. It's called The
- 18:36Speaker 1: Seven to five and it's about a corrupt bunch of
- 18:38Speaker 1: cops in New York City in the nineties. It is phenomenal,
- 18:43Speaker 1: these guys, these characters. I don't know how Tiller finds,
- 18:46Speaker 1: somebody manages to or they find him and everything comes
- 18:50Speaker 1: together in perfect, working, creative order in this documentary, The
- 18:54Speaker 1: seven to five. I highly recommend it. Matt knows what's up?
- 18:57Speaker 1: All right, Let's do one more text and then we
- 19:00Speaker 1: will get into some other responses here, all right for
- 19:04Speaker 1: the five four to one. Jake Rick from Portland here
- 19:08Speaker 1: love the pod. I need an app.
- 19:10Speaker 2: On the Dead Boys and stive. That's stive baterers.
- 19:13Speaker 1: He's talking about, thank you for all you do. Someday, Man,
- 19:18Speaker 1: someday you're gonna get that Dead Boys episode. I can
- 19:20Speaker 1: promise you that.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Rick. Let's head off here. Let's do some DMS here.
- 19:25Speaker 2: What do we got?
- 19:26Speaker 1: Our friend Courtney Ford on Facebook sent us this screenshot
- 19:30Speaker 1: with the results of her term paper on quote unquote
- 19:36Speaker 1: addressing client needs. I wonder what Courtney's studying where she
- 19:40Speaker 1: received a one hundred and this is here again in
- 19:45Speaker 1: the screenshot, and it's incredible. Congrats Courtney. She has it
- 19:48Speaker 1: circled with a note that says, written to the sweet
- 19:51Speaker 1: sounds of seasons one through nine. Thanks guys, Courtney, to
- 19:55Speaker 1: the extent that we can take credit for your perfect
- 19:57Speaker 1: grade on your turn paper, We'll take it, but I
- 20:00Speaker 1: guess I'm more concerned with how our content did not
- 20:03Speaker 1: distract you from getting a lower grade. But I kid,
- 20:07Speaker 1: I'm excited for you. Congratulations on one hundred on killing
- 20:10Speaker 1: and on your turn paper. Let's do this one here, okay.
- 20:13Speaker 1: At Gavin Van black Over on Instagram, the great Gavin
- 20:16Speaker 1: Van black I should say, of the great New York
- 20:19Speaker 1: hardcore band Burn, among others, says, how about a link
- 20:23Speaker 1: ray and the idea of having a band song that
- 20:26Speaker 1: was an instrumental as well as the fact he was
- 20:28Speaker 1: American Indian and that his popularity would be a threat
- 20:31Speaker 1: to the eras ethic.
- 20:33Speaker 3: That's an awesome idea.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Gavin Van Black is obviously a very smart man, and
- 20:37Speaker 1: I appreciate that recommendation on link ray, link ray all
- 20:40Speaker 1: around badass. I think there's a documentary out right now
- 20:43Speaker 1: on link ray or on Native American artists and rock
- 20:47Speaker 1: and roll, So yeah, man, I'm going to get into
- 20:50Speaker 1: that at some point, Gavin. Thanks for the suggestion. For
- 20:53Speaker 1: those of you who don't know Gavin, go check out
- 20:55Speaker 1: all his work. Check out Burn, check out Pride, check
- 20:59Speaker 1: out apps. Great one of the great hardcore New York
- 21:02Speaker 1: hard core originators. All right at Todd Cord on Instagram
- 21:06Speaker 1: wrote in with this cool story here Todd is saying, Jake,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I love your show. After listening to the Ramones episode,
- 21:15Speaker 1: it made me think of another band slash artist that
- 21:17Speaker 1: was so influential yet underappreciated, and that is Mike Ness
- 21:20Speaker 1: of Social Distortion. I recently saw a show that Harley
- 21:24Speaker 1: Davidson was sponsoring with Social d playing second to last,
- 21:26Speaker 1: with Green Day headlining what a shame to Me? Social
- 21:29Speaker 1: D is sort of the West Coast So Cal version
- 21:31Speaker 1: of the Ramones. I have a social D story.
- 21:33Speaker 2: My band. This is him talking, not me.
- 21:35Speaker 1: My band was scheduled to open for them at a
- 21:37Speaker 1: tiny venue in Anaheim, Linda's Dalhutt, Great, great, great, great
- 21:42Speaker 1: venue name by the way, And that's me talking, not him.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:44Speaker 1: So he goes on to say the place was a
- 21:46Speaker 1: staple for everyone to come out of Orange County, and
- 21:48Speaker 1: even La No Doubt formed right down the street from there.
- 21:51Speaker 1: The Offspring lit and many more. And on the night
- 21:54Speaker 1: we were opening the quote unquote secret social distortion show,
- 21:58Speaker 1: our drummer and I were walking up to the massively
- 22:00Speaker 1: long line that went down to the freeway entrance, and
- 22:02Speaker 1: we encountered noodles at Dexter from the Offspring, and they
- 22:06Speaker 1: were there to pay their respects to Mike ness. He'll
- 22:09Speaker 1: never be as successful, wealthy or recognized as those other
- 22:12Speaker 1: as those others. That's at Todd underscore chords with this
- 22:16Speaker 1: social distortion story. As if I needed any convincing, I didn't.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I love social distortion. I always kind of have. I
- 22:23Speaker 1: think they're fantastic, and yeah, I know there's something there.
- 22:26Speaker 1: I think Mike Ness was in jail for a minute
- 22:28Speaker 1: or something.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I don't know the backstory, but I appreciate Todd surfacing
- 22:34Speaker 1: that for me.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I'm going to get into that at some point.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Love these recommendations, guys, keep them coming. They are the
- 22:40Speaker 1: life sblood of the show.
- 22:42Speaker 2: For real.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Let's see what else do we got here at w
- 22:47Speaker 1: Jeffrey four to eight zero six zero on Twitter, hitting
- 22:50Speaker 1: me up at Disgrace slam Pod recommended documentary Hired Gun
- 22:55Speaker 1: out of the Shadows and Into the Spotlight. I've heard
- 22:57Speaker 1: about this and it looks awesome. This is this documentary
- 22:59Speaker 1: on these touring musicians and studio musicians who play behind
- 23:02Speaker 1: these massive artists on have throughout the history of rock
- 23:06Speaker 1: and roll. Looks really interesting, Hired Gun. I appreciate that.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna check that out. You know a lot of times, guys,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I see this stuff out there in the world, and
- 23:14Speaker 1: I'm so distracted with my own bullshit that I forget
- 23:16Speaker 1: about it. So I love that you're all recommending this content.
- 23:20Speaker 1: It resurfaces. It resurfaces it for me in a cool
- 23:23Speaker 1: way and keeps us connected, so keep it coming. You
- 23:26Speaker 1: can hit me up at Disgrace lampod on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok,
- 23:30Speaker 1: and I'll get back to you on either of those
- 23:31Speaker 1: channels or right here in the after party like we've
- 23:33Speaker 1: been doing. And as always, you can call, text, leave
- 23:36Speaker 1: a voicemail six one seven nine zero six six six
- 23:39Speaker 1: three eight. All right, quick break and back after that
- 23:42Speaker 1: with some recommendations. All right, the recommendations art. This is
- 24:01Speaker 1: the recommendations part. Still don't have a theme song for
- 24:03Speaker 1: the recommendation's part. Maybe this will become the no theme
- 24:06Speaker 1: song recommendations part. I don't know how come I'm the
- 24:08Speaker 1: only one trying to get a solution to this recommendation's
- 24:11Speaker 1: part not having a theme song problem that I have
- 24:15Speaker 1: someone helped me out. Anyway, Before I get into my recommendations,
- 24:18Speaker 1: I wanted to read a recommendation from a listener that
- 24:21Speaker 1: I'm excited about. Here from Hayden Lee Bushnell on Facebook,
- 24:25Speaker 1: who is recommending be here to Love Me the Towns
- 24:28Speaker 1: van ZANDT documentary. After watching our Waylon Jennings Cocaine Bear
- 24:32Speaker 1: story over on our YouTube channel, Hayden chimed in told
- 24:35Speaker 1: us to check this out I think I've actually seen
- 24:38Speaker 1: I think I saw this like years.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Ago, and or bits of it.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Anyways, completely forgot about it, cannot remember anything about it,
- 24:46Speaker 1: but I am excited to dive into Towns van ZANDT.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I really appreciate this, the resurfacing of this documentary, the
- 24:53Speaker 1: Towns van Zan's story be here to love me. Thanks
- 24:56Speaker 1: for the reminder, Hayden. All right, so that's what Hayden's watching.
- 25:00Speaker 1: What am I watching? I'm watching the old episodes of
- 25:03Speaker 1: Party Down. You know that I talked about it last week.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I'm almost done with season two. I'm looking forward to
- 25:08Speaker 1: the rebooted season three, which I hear is great and
- 25:11Speaker 1: I cannot wait for. Okay, this past weekend I watched,
- 25:17Speaker 1: as I'm sure most of you have, the new Chris
- 25:20Speaker 1: Rock Netflix special, and I'm gonna go two thumbs way
- 25:26Speaker 1: the fuck up.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I mean, what do you think I was gonna say?
- 25:31Speaker 2: I'm gen X to my core.
- 25:32Speaker 1: That doesn't mean I'm gonna be down with whatever Chris
- 25:34Speaker 1: Rock says because he's gen X, but it does mean
- 25:36Speaker 1: I'm likely gonna share his sentiments on a whole lot
- 25:38Speaker 1: of the insanity that the world that is spinning back
- 25:40Speaker 1: into our faces these days, and I thought that Chris
- 25:43Speaker 1: Rock did an incredible job of framing so much of
- 25:46Speaker 1: the current ridiculousness, some of which he's been caught up in.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Part of me thinks comedians might be the ones who
- 25:52Speaker 1: saved the world. They might be our only hope. Then again,
- 25:56Speaker 1: it might be the complete opposite. All I know is
- 25:58Speaker 1: that I thoroughly enjoyed Chris Rock special. I thought he
- 26:02Speaker 1: was just throwing fastballs the entire time. Amazing to hear
- 26:07Speaker 1: basically his opinion on everything, even if I didn't agree
- 26:10Speaker 1: with it, I enjoyed his take.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I always enjoy his take.
- 26:13Speaker 1: He's obviously been one of the smartest, most influential comedians
- 26:18Speaker 1: of my lifetime. I love that he's still killing it
- 26:21Speaker 1: while he's in his fifties. But what was perhaps more
- 26:25Speaker 1: interesting than the totality of the special for me was
- 26:30Speaker 1: Chris Rock's take finally on the whole Will Smith incident.
- 26:35Speaker 1: And to be honest, because they were promoting the fact
- 26:39Speaker 1: that he was going to address the incident before the
- 26:42Speaker 1: special came out and it was a live special on
- 26:44Speaker 1: Netflix on Saturday night. Because they were promoting it, I
- 26:48Speaker 1: didn't think that he was really going to go there.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I thought it was going to be kind of like,
- 26:52Speaker 1: you know, whatever, bomb. I didn't think he was going
- 26:55Speaker 1: to go there with so much emotion and vengeance, smart vengeance.
- 27:01Speaker 1: It was awesome and I thought, well deserved. And yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 1: it's already been litigated in the media, and all of
- 27:06Speaker 1: our politics have already been adamized into the incident with
- 27:09Speaker 1: Will Smith and all the silly armchair quarterback fresh takes
- 27:12Speaker 1: have been spit out all over whatever the Internet, and
- 27:15Speaker 1: at the end of the day, all that's left is
- 27:18Speaker 1: who is right and who is wrong? And all I
- 27:20Speaker 1: got to say is Chris Rock is a full grown
- 27:22Speaker 1: man and we need more of that. And I love
- 27:25Speaker 1: this special go check it out. If you have not already,
- 27:28Speaker 1: all right, what I'm listening to. I'm still listening to
- 27:30Speaker 1: that banger mix, guys that I made for Spotify. Five
- 27:34Speaker 1: hours of music from Disgraceland, from the episodes of Disgraceland,
- 27:38Speaker 1: from the artists that we featured in our over one
- 27:41Speaker 1: hundred episodes of Disgraceland. Search the Disgraceland podcast, official playlist
- 27:46Speaker 1: and your Spotify app.
- 27:47Speaker 2: For that and you will not be disappointed.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I'm reading Flannery O'Connor's Prayer Journal. I think I mentioned
- 27:53Speaker 1: this before. This isn't a novel, it's not a book.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Of short stories.
- 27:56Speaker 1: It's literally a journal of prayers written by the great
- 27:58Speaker 1: author Flannery O'Connor from her time in college in the
- 28:01Speaker 1: mid nineteen forties and her struggles and reckoning and strengthening
- 28:05Speaker 1: of her faith as a Catholic. I find it to
- 28:07Speaker 1: be compelling, inspiring, and for anyone who's into the inner
- 28:11Speaker 1: workings of great creative minds and interested in spirituality, I
- 28:14Speaker 1: highly recommend it.
- 28:16Speaker 2: A prayer Journal by Flannery O'Connor. All Right, I'm.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Headed to Vegas this week and then to main this weekend,
- 28:21Speaker 1: so semi recommendations back in a flash.
